Follow up on hoover lift i saw this op ed over at the new york times and i just loved it for uber and lift the rideshare bubble bursts and i mean it really is pretty much everything that like everything that they've promised about. Ridesharing has fallen apart. Every thing every single thing it is not better for the environment is not better for. The city's does not for the roads. It is not better for the people. It is not better for anyone. It's a horrible horrible business model. That sucks down. Every single step of it sucks sox yup yup. They're basically saying that the environmental thing was the last thing that they were hanging onto. And it's like well knows sorry not not on our watch so yeah i mean if you are even on the fence about uber and lift and ride sharing platforms in general. Yeah no it's a failure. It's a failure travis. Kalanick's really screwed the pooch sorry and and just the fact that he was a giant douchebag doesn't and it points to a bigger failure about how businesses are conducted these days. Especially if there's even some veneer of tekken remember. It's it's just an app just an app. It's a taxi company. That has an app. What would the idea. That's tech company is ridiculous so there's points to the bigger problem which is If we didn't have all this. Vc money pumping these things up this. These businesses would have failed ten years ago. This right now. It's a ponzi scheme. it really is. It's like last man out. Is the one holding the bag. Because everybody who's gonna make money on. Uber has made their money already. This is just you know. We're just watching a slow-motion train wreck at this point. So is just. It's self driving train. It's a self driving trainwreck. Speaking of self driving train wrecks. Let's talk about waymo in san francisco. I love this hat tip to johannesen twitter for sending me this one for the first the first i got four hundred people that sent it to me. But this is about waymo cars going down a one way street in san francisco and having to turn around and blah blah blah. There's another article on forbes which you now take that with a grain of salt if you want it's forbes not really the bastion of of journalism. They once were but it kind of explains a little bit about how how it worked but we still haven't. I haven't seen anything from waymo talking about why this happened or how they're fixing it. I was doing my research last night. And i haven't seen anything about it but yeah these way. That would seem to be very related to the issues earlier in the week because that was a configuration change. Language fucking matters facebook. they don't they don't they. Don't play by the rules. It's the same issue that caused the outage but it's unrelated to the issue earlier in the week even though same issue. Thank you different bad programmer. It's all goddamn okay and instagram is attempting to save some face hereafter pushing the instagram for kids forever. Even though technologists Psychologist geologists human being people. Anybody that brees was screaming. This is a really bad idea. And they came. Yeah they decided. Hey we're encouraged teens to take a break. Take a break so. Cnn and reuters are reporting that facebook global affairs vp. Nick clegg the dick. That guy man that guy is just lays an atoll. He's an asshole. he's the punching bag. He's taken taken it on the chin. But he give it on the plaque. Yeah he he's doing it for a worthy cause a lot of money so he doesn't shit he does not give a shit. He is paid to go out there. He's like trump's Trump's pr people who's just paid to go out there and take shit in the face. He knows what he's doing. He's he's Zuckerberg and sandberg's giuliani. There you go so. He announced that instagram would introduce take a break feature that would encourage teens to simply stop using the social network for a while. He didn't say when it.

Geeks jason filipo. And i'm brian gillmeister. And we're both grinning ear. But we'll get to that in a few minutes. Yeah i I something that didn't have me grinning. I had my second major couvert exposures experience yesterday which is just to show you that. We are not out of the woods with this stuff yet. so my office might company that i'm working for everybody fully vaccinated We have rapid test kits at the office. And we have a protocol right now that twice a week you're supposed to do the rapid test and make sure and if you're clear then you can go in and if not then you have to go home and get a pc artisanal that sort of stuff And things got a little lax with some folks as human nature does rather than taking the tests and kind of staying at the front office area and waiting for a result People would start to come in. I put down their their coats because it's been raining. And maybe put their backpack down or set up their laptop and then go take the test and then kind of forget about it and wander around sit down and start working and all of that sort of thing and lo and behold somebody did one of the The rapid tests turn positive yesterday. So there was a few a few of us were in the office and we all went home and the person of interest went to go off and get a pr test and You know good news. The pr tests came back negative so it was a false positive but the sort of thing you know. It's it's going to be happening so it's interesting so when you went home did you. Quarantine from your family I did i kind of went straight upstairs and just kind of hung out and tried to stay away from everybody as much as i could because it was unknown yet although the guidelines said you know we were i was reading through as we all. You know everybody in the office. All of a sudden became a house. We start to do our own research course. We're starting to read through the guidelines. And you know it's it's things like fifteen minutes of of of exposure within two meters and all that sort of stuff and the this particular person. I'm nowhere near i. I think i've only spoken to her like once or twice. So i was like i was not terribly concerned. But you know you never know and it's it's scary when the stuff happens so you had a false positive. That's good yeah good news we have to go back to the office. Now you go. Oh god i guess facebook jokes. I gotta wait. We're talking. we're not there yet. we're not there yet. Some follow up. I found a really interesting series called the great reckoning over its spectrum dot i triple e. dot org because the tripoli's dancer institute of electrical and electronics engineers. Yeah i didn't approve all your light bulbs and and outlets and everything. So it's a pretty good series. So far i have to say i've been going through them. There's some of them are long. Read some of them are short. Reads but i think they're doing a pretty good job over there and i recommend giving it a skim if you've got some time for sure and this one just made me kind of chuckle. Former google zek warns a researchers are quote unquote creating god. And who knew he was racist dot. He used to work at At google in some of these special op stuff. He's like finance guy. He wrote a book called searching for happy after his son died I've produced a couple interviews with moa. I've talked mo a couple of times. He's a really sweet guy and I really enjoyed his book. Searching for happy His other book is coming out now. Which of course he's going to say the sky is falling world gonna die. Here comes skynet because it's called scary smart the future of artificial intelligence and how you can save the world. Yeah i'm just take this one with the great salt if you see it passing around. He's like you know he was like watching. Some figure out how a robot arm could pick up a grape and then what did finally did and that it held it up triumphantly. Likeness okay okay. Create a little. We've talked about andrew yang a couple times anytime he seems super interesting. And then he got superindent digital rights and he got into. Ub i and all that sorta stuff and a lot of a lot of his thoughts kind of aligned with our thoughts about things and then kind of fizzled off as a presidential candidate and then he caught content uninteresting for a while as he was doing a bunch of weird shit like he would start. You know would start like these digital digital forays and then kind of drop them in the next thing. I know he's talking head. And i kind of understand why now. And he's starting to explain it a bit now. Of course you know. He's promoting a book as well but he's talking about about the things that he's talking about in his book and he wrote this really great This is a bit from his book. That's been published on politico. And it's when i ran for president in best with my head and it's a good way to explaining a lot of the andrian nonsense that came immediately after Somewhere along the line. Along the way i read or a teacher said something to me along the lines of the thing. Is you want a leader. Who doesn't want to be a leader People that want it for themselves. Not for you. And he's he starts to talk about how the whole process of running for president just fucks with you and it really changes your mindset and it turns into a not good person. oh great. Didn't he also run for mayor mayor of new york to yes. He did that after so yeah yeah so And it's it's interesting. i think it's a. It's a really good short rita. I don't know if i'm going to read his whole book. Maybe i will but this is definitely a good rate. And he's like we gotta think about changing the way we do things because this is not healthy. Yeah well there's a lot of that going around right now. I'll i'll probably read it because he has an interesting cat. I don't want to find out if he's interesting as i is. He is in my head. You know that's exactly right because to be. He was like beyond interesting and maybe he's not maybe he is. You know what you're right. I think we both read the book. Let's find out. Let's find out now. Brian i also said a while back. 'cause we you know talking to our friend chris lockhead and he was like. Can't you guys come up with some good news for the show. You know like look at amazon amazon is offering free tuition to people. And i'm like chris. The only reason that's good news right now is because people haven't done their research yet. Well finally somebody has and yes. It was bullshit almost. Nobody takes them up on it. There are limits to how much the these companies can give towards tuition which is like an in the realm of five thousand dollars. Which as we know he much unless you're getting like a skill share lifetime account or some shit like that here. Brian joel meister. Got some follow up today brian. Okay deep mind has told google that it has no idea how to make less toxic. Well that's not good. No it's not no. It's not deep mind. The big honchos say they did some tests and had basically this comes around the text creation like gt three and all that stuff and helping natural language processing not neuro linguistic programming for you. Pick up artists out there but yeah they're basically saying that. Yeah we just don't know so. Hold on one second. So google which i think i think we can all agree as probably the furthest along in the ai development game or at least you know they. They've certainly throwing the most money out and all that sort of thing they can't keep any ethicists on board for a and now they're not it's not that they can't keep them they dave kick them out this kick them out and now they're basically saying we don't know how to fix this sanely bigoted system that we have created okay. Those are two different issues. Honestly i mean just because the very well over there no they don't really have a good track record when it comes to not go. You are the weakest link. Yeah okay well. That's that's You in a perfect world You know one that. I was running. I would take a look at this information and say you know perhaps we should stop deploying and relying on this ai so much in the world. But we don't do that do we. Let's think about how many billions of dollars spent on that right right To to replace humans right how many humans could they have hired for all those billions of dollars. Have they done the bath on this. Have they actually run the numbers. They could have hired all the humans. That's what i'm saying. Yeah pretty much much speaking of robots and other things so my my roommate is a real estate broker and every now and again i get jobs to go out and take photos of homes that go up on the mls and things like that. So i know a little bit about the real estate market. And the way i know about real estate marketing and so i went and i shot this house the other day and instead of staging it she was trying out a virtual staging company and brian. You can see the pictures in here the before and after hours and those pictures cost thirty dollars each. That's it thirty bucks. I'll put these in the show notes so you can put stage companies out of business. Stage companies are dead. They're dead we 'cause i was expecting something like microsoft paint comeback. They look incredible. Absolutely incredible. you could not. You could show me the after picture. And i would think that there is actual furniture in that place. Yeah they're pretty amazing. I mean it doesn't solve the problem of like when you actually. You're not going to buy a house or an apartment without going to see it in person so it doesn't really solve that problem but i mean why bother why bother now. It solves the problem of getting people because because the problem stagey. I always asked her. I'm like why. Why do people stay a house you know. She's like people have no imagination so they see an empty room and they can't wrap their mind around what it would look like with furniture in it and i'm like okay. We'll people are dumb. But i got it after some time and i'm like yeah. I wouldn't know what to do with this room. And then i see what they did with it. And i'm like oh my god. Yeah because it can cost anywhere. I mean some of these big houses. She sells these million dollar houses. Like five ten million dollar houses will cost thirty thousand dollars a month to stage it and all you need to get somebody in the door so you do the virtual staging and that because you know they just started opening up showings here in los angeles so people are just getting back to it now and i saw this and i'm like man. This is crazy or even if somebody show up in person you just hand them an ipad and say look now you can scan through six different ways. You could lay out this room. Yeah something like that. And here's the other thing. It's funny because in the old days she would create a stack of flyers. To hand out the showings you can't do that with covert anymore. So i'm like she's like yeah. We can't do that so you know we're just kind stuck. I'm like well. Why don't you just make a qr code and have them download the pdf. And he was like. I gave her the blueprints to the wheel. She's like oh my god that is the most genius thing ever. I'm like a qr code. People do it with menus all the time they rest or diseasing. So now i'm now. I'm on the hook for making fucking qr code flyers for propaganda new job. Yeah yeah that's pretty much it. I'm like a great way to fucking go genius but people actually use it. We d- we deployed one showing on Sunday and people actually came and used it and the agent that we put there. Because i had him tell me how many times people use these. I wanna see if it's worth it for me to do it. Then he's like three quarters of people actually used it but every single person that did it was under thirty. If they were over thirty they had no idea what to do with it right so i thought that was pretty fun but yeah talk about this is this is where automation is going to kill. An industry right. My my wife has taken over our upstairs office. She's working from home now. I'm actually going into an office. Started my job So we've got you know we've gotta logitech mouse up here and we've got an apple keyboard up here now. The apple keyboard. i can understand. You know there's just there's just an indicator on your screen tells you if the battery is low but logitech. Mouse glows red. When the battery's getting low. And i have not been up here for a week. We'll see how long this mouse lasts. But it's a there's no power she did this to you before i rem- is not like to plug things in well back back in back in santa monica we were both. We were hot desk that thing. So i'm not all the time so you know that was on me as well but this one hundred percent on her first world problems versus. I've got a lot of ninety. Nine first world brought my mouth way down list. Oh man so. I was meant to put this story in last week. And i had. I had spaced on it. So i'm gonna talk about it this week Friend of mine is a driver for uber. Eats and you know we make fun of the the ubers and the lifts all of that stuff in the door dashes and then she came over and sat down and showed me the app and should me how much money she makes. Which is i. I was stunned. I was flat out absolutely stunned. Bullet about five grand a month if you hustle you can do it. Yeah she's hustling so much that she and she enjoys it. She actually really really has fun doing it. So i'm like I have lots of free time. Maybe i should try. Not a people person jason. Hey you know you just leave it on the doorstep you pick it up at the place and you leave it on the doorstep. There's not much people interaction anymore. There's nobody in your car got ivory restaurants. I see how that works. You know have special places set up you go and say the name they hand you the bag and you run. That's it but Yeah i then came to my senses. Okay said you know No it's not. it's not the people part. it's i hate driving in los angeles. Yeah there's that you know even if it's still in the neighborhood because you know the the area i'm in woodland hills and calabasas and you know maybe even malibu that's where she makes the big bucks. Apparently malibu tips or fantastic But the thing though. Here's the thing. I we're looking at one side of the equation here. I need a cost versus benefits analysis. I need to see how much you spend on gas. I need to see dollars on car insurance. I need to see wear and tear. I want. I want two years worth of study on this. Well you're not gonna get to study. Been doing it for a couple of months but yeah yeah we're not that bad Got lease and spend about sixty bucks in gas a week which isn't too bad Because one one delivery can pay for that if you get a good one but Yeah it was just interesting because she spent the last twenty five years selling insurance and you know may pretty good money. She's obviously taking a hit and pay to do this but likes it. A hell of a lot more in that that switch over to work when she wants and You know a little bit less money but a little bit more freedom and peace of mind. Not hating her job has turned her into a much more pleasant person. Great and one of the other things. Though that i thought you would find very funny there is actually a prop twenty two calculation inside of the app itself. Of course she gets since it has been repealed. She actually makes more money. Go figure they do this calculation every week and bring. Everybody's number's up. Based on how many hours they work to make sure that they meet the minimums required. I am trying to figure a way around this. So here's here's how you get around the bullshit every of apple music you do have to upload every single track in your library or at least the tracks that you want to your phone. I recommend just uploading everything and then dealing with it later. Once it's up there it. It unhook sinking through apple music. So if i want to download song on apple music streaming. I have to go back and i have to quote unquote re sync the all of my devices to use apple music again. Now on the on the device where. I uploaded everything. I can still listen to the song that shall not be named by by apple. But here's the available elsewhere right now. You still can't get on any other devices. And i can't on every other song i tried this. You can delete it like remove the download and then re download it that song you cannot do it. It will not let you remove the download period them. Yeah exactly exactly the cures the new u2 so so it sticks. It's always there. I recent but here's the fucking crazy part two. When once i uploaded everything it had all of the proper cover art. It was all there it was it was great. It looked fine. All you know. All the crazy bootlegs. I got from you. You know all that gigantic your library. That i got from you ages ago. All their works great. As soon as i re sync to apple music it went and changed all of the cover art so now my staring at the album has some movie called the son of rambo that the cover art now for staring at the sea awesome. Do you just made me very happy. Jason because i realized you have my cure library pre being destroyed by apple music. And i'm gonna need you to put that on the dropbox for me. Because i need that back in organized because i have slowly been picking at it over ten years and i think i've given up on it you've got it in pristine condition. I i don't know how how far back it goes. Cineplex is unveiling a subscription called cynic club here in canada offering. Three movies perks discounts. They not get the internet in canada. They never heard Well they're obviously doing this. An attempt to get people to start coming back to theaters. Vaccine rates are higher. Here case levels are lower so please come back go. See movies is the Point here and they have learned a little bit They're not offering the all you can eat packages that destroyed movie pass and things of that injury. So it's a much more watered down program for ninety nine a or whatever and you get basically one free movie a month.

But everybody's getting it You know obviously they're not gonna act like credibly ill but we still don't even know the science on on this. We don't know if the vaccine is gonna stop a lot of these long haul effects that people are starting to see. There's now worries about increased risk of alzheimer's. There's worried that the mental degradation is occurring. If you've had coveted what. I would argue. That might be there. Pre-coded no no no no the population not being vaccinated yet. But you know people who have had have even had it got it after. They had no fault of their own. Were completely careful. Yep do have mental degradation issues from the long haul effects which is why. I'm so fucking pissed off now. I'm intensely worried about that. Obviously i have a child. Who's too young to get vaccinated on i am. I can't leave the country. If i get a positive test at this point and i'm leaving the country in in a week and a half I i don't trust anyone And now it's not a case of not trusting anyone. Even the people i trust through no fault again like we said the delta very it is so is so viral that through people through no fault of their own people. I trust implicitly people. I know who are doing the right. Things can get. It can still get sick. Because there's all these people running around not giving a goddamn fuck about anyone. I i just done with this. Canada's vaccination rate has skyrocketed past the us now and the people that are refusing to take it and the people that are demonstrating in the streets are treated the way they should be treated like menaces fucking society remember the aids as if you actually knew you had aids had sex with somebody. They would treat you for charged with attempted murder. If you spit on somebody even if you had aids they would add charged with attempted murder. Let's let all of the fucking potheads out of prison. I'm so i've read a couple articles about it and here we are. This is the last one you know it's like you look at all the different milestones as you grow older and fifty is really the only one that anybody cares about. I'm not making it to one hundred. I've gotten down to two computers. Now i got my book air and one for kicking around the house out in the yard or whatever but the reason. I'm a little late today. As i have to reboot my mac. Book pro sixteen right now. The macbook pro sixteen. It's an abridged. Doc which is nice hooked up to that giant curvy monitor. You con me into buying which i love i see that that's the show in a nutshell Con you into buying. And i love it. So one of the things about doc. Living that they they never tell you is. If you use a wireless keyboard and mouse. You're screwed on reboot you have to take it out of the dock every time because if you will that's annoying it is because if you run file volt the bluetooth drivers don't load until after you've typed in your username and password so you can either have. You can be insecure and turnoff file vault. Which i'm not going to do on a laptop right or you have to unplug it every time and then manually log in and then put back in the dock. Wait for everything to sink up is like oh god but to the point i got a two terabyte drive on this mac book pro which means i have more than enough space for my entire music library cocaine and unless something new comes out in which case you i guess you get your card you drive down to walmart and buy the cd and rip. The cd drives anymore. I well you know. That's what the internet still works for pirating music. I don't know if anybody's told you but you still can't do that. Yes i'm aware of. Yeah just wouldn't last thing on apple music. So i can play like almost everything here and then it does sink most of the stuff up to the cloud if it if it matches except of course the one song canary in the coalmine killing an arab will not play. I still. it's it's amazing how there's not more up cry. Well i guess it's not amazing. The cure at this point are an oldies band. And it's one song from the very first album they ever recorded but still like come on people. It's a great song. It's a fantastic song so unbelievable. Yeah so i can play it. So i'm sure that there's an import button that i could go find in thirty seconds and just switched to cast box but i paid for overcast for the years. I still wanna get my money's worth but both of them on the iphone are just fine and dandy but yeah our podcast. Is there so people that can't get into the podcast portal. After two weeks. Because i had the time off Well i plan on getting the shot anyways. I got my second vaccine which knocked me on my but for a day you had your second shot as well during the time off that we had so we basically lost two days anyway. So it's probably for the best took off. Yeah no doubt. And i am coming up May i is going to be my my going out day because that is the day coming out the closet museum. I'm coming out of the closet. And i'm going to the polo lounge where i'm going. I've been inside for over a year. I'm gonna have me some caviar. And they have this amazing truffle eggs benedict. Oh it is going to be glorious. It is going to be glorious. Reservations are made. That's all i got. Nice nice My wife has a plan to trip. I was expecting to spend a second Second cova birthday but my wife has planned a trip out to ohi for my birthday Mid may and we will be dining and enjoying a night in the hotel room without a kid. And all that sorta stuff so. I wouldn't often did that. And i got the results from that today. So it's kind of nice. You know not that i'd done anything that would have gotten me. Hiv in the last year. So i don't have issue so that's good not burkey lsus is. There's some comfort in the fact that you know they did a full like lung x ray and all that sort of stuff so No i i definitely never got covid. My my lungs are totally fine. I'm not some long hauler that's going to be you know a Bought breath oxygen capacity. Or anything i. I feel somewhat comforted at going into this knowing. I'm pretty damn healthy. So you know.
