Evel Knievel: Ramping Up To Glory
"Knievel Oh is one of the most iconic names of the twentieth century. There's a reason that people are still being compared to him nearly forty years after his last jump he rubbed elbows with Hollywood's greatest performed stunts. No one thought were possible. And pioneered the whole subject of stunting known as action sports which has blossomed into a multi multi billion dollar industry. Pretty much all of my favorite people of my childhood odor career to able able. NFL playoff picture: Chiefs’ loss against the Rams helps the Patriots in the race for the AFC’s top seed
"So Nick after you saw what you saw from both teams offensively last night in the Rams and the chiefs can the patriots keep pace with that type of offense St. think not the patriots we've seen through ten weeks now with the patriots won't turn the ball over the way both teams Dade yesterday. They won't commit a dozen first-half penalties or close to it. The way the chiefs did yesterday, they're not going to beat themselves. But you looked at just the overwhelming offense of talent take the quarterbacks out of it and Brady last month hadn't been great take him out. Let's Brady come the playoffs going to be awesome with lesser grunk with Josh Gordon that still is not yet seemingly fully on the same page with Brady you look at what the saints have what the Rams have what the chiefs have what the Steelers have even and you say as far as talent. Perspective. The patriots are playing Tom Brady's stacked deck against him. And so I mean, I wouldn't count the patriots out in any scenario because they're so good at the details. But as far as trying to win a shootout, I know they did against cancer the earlier in the year. I was with gronk little healthier that was with the team playing a little bit better. I don't think they can keep up with the top flight offenses in the league as we're seeing them right now, we always do this in football is not a tale of the take. You look at the pats. How they play you watch the game last night. You'll be like, wow. How are they going to keep up this going to do the pets have started seven and three in the last ten years? They've done that half the time, but they've only made it to the Super Bowl with a by. So if they were to play one of these teams, and they had a bye, you're not gonna see Tareq you'll have two hundred yards that does not going to happen to a Bill Belichick team. So they might go score some points. They might build move the ball. But you're not gonna have one guy Bill to dominate the game. So in seeing this what? Say it's not about the offense. Do Bill Chitwood do something about Kansas City, entire healed. Now would Kelsey heard him would a healthy. Sammy Watkins Bill to hurt them. They have so many talented players on both side the way the Rams played patients. Couldn't do anything with that Jared Goff played that way in the Super Bowl. The patriots wooden goes, Tom because there's not one thing that they would build a take away from them was Bill bell. Check is going to try to do. The thing about is. It's not a matter who's the best right now. We know the patriots are going to get better. It's predictable. They're always better as the season goes on. So now in these last six games will they go five and one will they go six to build a get either that number two seater that number one seat that is the key to them. They will keep evolving keep getting better. Let's see how the Rams how they respond to this by a right? It's still a very very young team. I do like how they responded after the law. Us to New Orleans how they've come back and how Sean McVeigh has replaced the overall productivity of Cooper Cup. So those things I think are very very positive going forward. But the patriots they will not be the same team in January that they are today..

I'm great. How are you? Do. You miss me at all. I miss shoes. At least once a month, or at least at least in hanging withdrawals. Thank you. I knew that was happening. I was waiting for that having the Tony to withdrawals because we would do the gym. Yeah. Go back. Repeat you, Shannon. The dude. Class or whatever that was the dog. What was it called rumble, rumble class was hilarious, and awesome? It was awesome. Of course. She used to work for twenty-five again. And and now we're here talking about your friend, Kevin Chitwood. Yes, I want to see before we talk about Chitwood stock which is happening this weekend. It is the second annual. This is the second annual. Kevin would tell me the story breaks. Kevin. I've known the Chitwood family for quite some time, and our families go to Saint Albert the great, of course, their daughter is now in high school, but Kevin committed his life to the community in volunteering his biggest talent was giving his time. And so his daughter got involved with American Turner's at the circus, and she's incredible. And he actually got so involved attorneys that he performed with her on occasion, the productions on and also took time out of his personal scheduled to revitalize and kind of build some life back into Turner's. But he did that with everything. I mean, we coached teams that say now bird and just everything that he's gotten involved with. He he puts you know, two hundred percent in and so his vision. Before he died last year over spring break actually going out in the ocean saving his daughter. That's where I yeah. That's the story. I was looking for the he he had. Rough seas at in spring break and everybody goes to pay and handle. That's in the news today is either destined or they were at Gulf shores. Go shorts and her his daughter and her friend got in some trouble in the riptides. Correct. Yeah. He kinda spotted that they were endanger and went out to kind of say them. And unfortunately, kind of went into cardiac arrest after the fact you imagine all the in going and fighting the waves going after your daughter and their best friend, and unfortunately, did not survive that horrific event. And were you down there at the time when you in Louisville how has not, but I had close friends that were, you know, her. Accounts firsthand, and it was very traumatic and China take a tragedy, and, you know, built a legacy on what Kevin the Mark that he made on the community, and he really wanted to have some major events at Turner's and get more people there, and my brother-in-law is Ben in music for ears, and he had many conversations with my brother-in-law about doing a music fest there, and so it quickly became we've got to do this. And we wanna do it quick. And so we did our first one in September of last year, and it was a huge success. And we're gonna do it again this year, which is this Saturday in its from two to midnight at Turner's all day music. We have music acts every hour, and we have the Turner circus. That's going to be performing we have music. There's also indoor lounge so be music, and they're in a few tracks also have arts and crafts vendors that are going to be on. Play. And the sole purpose of the event is there is a Chitwood foundation and has honor and out of the monies that the event raises we will provide scholarships to liked individuals like Kevin. So we've actually given to this year. Tune assumption high school student at trinity high school student that exemplifies what Kevin did in the community. And then we've also supported some other organizations that were important to the Chitwood foundation and get to the Chitwood family and also to Turner, and we'll continue to do that we have some great music album musicians or donating their time. They most of them new Kevin. And so they were happy to do that. And we've also had some great sponsors to come on board this year. And so we're really excited as any of the band's I'm gonna know or these all just friends a Kevin. Get a list legends for paying for people that don't know where Turner's are described that. Yeah. It's on river road is a hidden jewel is huge parking lot. It's a huge facility. Right next to the it's the next street after the river house, right? And it's been a great view. If anything it's worth coming down for you. If you see the football goal that's the field right there, you probably park there and go on in. I know that because we used to have a practice for grade school football there there there'd be some car still parked in the field probably on Saturday morning practices. Probably. And it's gonna be great weather. This weekend is going to. I finally feel like fall get a jacket, and you know, bring a chair ring a blanket it is twenty dollars a ticket but eighteen and under freeze, and it is a family friendly event. We're having a coal kids area as well. But we're going to have Johanna PMA, which is Joe I love Johann starring five famous on Friday. Ohana was good night. Maxine back, right. Yeah. Yeah. At Shannon, sirens, electric, Arden and the war hippies all the war hippie closing down that night. Great time. And like I said bring your kids during the day and then find a home for them in the evening and stay with us until midnight. That's actually a really Hello lineup. They're good job on that one. Yeah. It was I know because you know. The Catholic thing it went through pretty fast. How what was happening and how it went down. And and I know you guys put that together pretty quickly last year. And I was so glad it was a huge success. And I hope it just keeps growing, and I'm so glad that they're they're able to do a scholarship. For trinity. That's great. Yeah. We hope to do more. You know, we don't want to limit it to just certain schools. Those were you know, Kevin went to turn any and his daughters at assumption. So those are his family's doing well his wife. Bobby is amazing. You know, she kind of let her friends and family take control last year virtues actually played a pretty vital role in the planning and her vision for this year and her daughter has had her say and things as well. So. We like to think it's more of a celebration and a tribute to him really, Alison, it's always great to see. Yes. There's no doubt about it. So this weekend again, two o'clock, Saturday Turner's all day music goes to a great event Kevin Chitwood lost his life. Couple of years ago at spring break saving his daughter and her friend from drowning so please get on out there and see them are short break. We'll come back. News radio. Eight forty W H.

"Then turn the tape recorder off. What was what was happening in that moment? Well, okay, so backup so meeting somebody like a chimp would, you know, there is a sort of hoping that I believe the thing about a Chitwood sheriff of police chief is that the only have the power to fire a police officer. And that's really about it after that it goes into the court system in so for Natasha. Her son Rodney twenty three years old unarmed was shot and killed by two police officers during a traffic stop after the shooting. A judge ruled that the two officers had done. Nothing wrong made acted in accordance with the law. And it just so happened that forty five minutes before better, I showed up at her door. She just got an Email from her lawyers saying that the appeal that she filed against that decision had just been rejected. And so we sat there in tasha's apartment for a while we actually even left for like an hour eventually came back. Kind of just hit reset on the whole thing. Natasha show me some pictures of Rodney long dreads big big smile. Big smile. Bright, white smile we sat down on her kitchen table. Okay. So if you can walk me back to the night that kind of everything everything happened. Hsun eleven two thousand twelve Natasha was at home nine thirty at night. Rodney who was twenty three years old was a back from college out driving entice car. That's when all the phone call started happening people calling saying something's going on with your car. I knew something was wrong. So I immediately started screaming outside to see if I can get somebody to respond to help me. So I can get a ri-. Nobody camp came out. I started running down the interstate barefoot, which is left. I don't even recall locking the door or anything like that. Benchley a family member actually picks her up. They drive to the scene. She gets there looks. Thank just people everywhere. Police cars, I where's Rodney Eyles looking for my vehicle, and and my one sister. She's he's over there. She pointed about twenty feet over to where the car had come to a stop at a gas station. But then she had the the back of my my pants. So that I couldn't run over there. The whole place was surrounded by police tape. And eventually Natasha says it took a couple of hours, but a cop pulled her off to the side and told her that her son had been shot and killed by police. I just got on my knees. Hands the knees and started praying don't let the speech, please, Lord, basically begging pleading. I quit what what else do you do is cry screen pray Christ screen? Pray Christ green next thing. You know, I woke up I was at hospital Natasha says that she apparently was so frenzied an EMT on the scene stucco with something to calm you down. So when I woke up a theme my family's. Ending over me in the hospital. Now as to what happened to Rodney that night. Ben has looked at testimony from the cops involved from I witnesses different court records to piece together the events. Yeah. Rodney Cording all these documents that night. Rodney in his sixteen year old cousin were into touches car. They had stopped at a gas station. They left the gas station, and we're driving down this highway win he and his little cousin get pulled over by two white officers. The officer said he saw him without a seat belt. Turns out Rodney was wearing a seatbelt. And these two officers approaches vehicle one is kind of standing in front of the car about several feet away towards like the driver's side. An officer approaches his window Rodney's cousin says, boy, why didn't you pull over sooner? And and then orders Rodney to put the car in park. Rodney Scott both hands at this point on the steering wheel. And he reaches down to put the car in park. And this is where things in the story sorted diverge. Because the cops say the Rodney put the car in park, but then quickly put it back into Dr accelerated at the officer in front of the car, Ron. He's cousin gives to conflicting accounts as to what happened. There was apparently. And I witness across the street who said the car had yet to move. But what is clear is what happened next which is deputy in front pulls out his gun. Fires two shots in the windshield. The deputy right by the door. Here's the fire. He pulls a gun and fires twice one. Bullet went through Rodney's left hand when she'd put up in self-defense another bullet entered through his left temple and the car lurches forward and Koreans across the street for about three hundred yards until it clydes with this gas station. Rodney's cousin at this point gets out of the car flees from the scene, unharmed. Eventually paramedics arrive in pronounce Rodney dead at the scene. Mine is always on writing matassa says when she does think about that night show is comes back to this one question. Why were the gospel? Why why what was what was that all about? What do you think the answer is? He's black. Finesse just it. Did you ever a moment where you try and put yourself in the mind of those two officers absolutely not because I would never do somebody's kid like that. That never cross. No. I would never do that you feel like it's like. Do you feel like the cop in that moment? It's Rodney's black is what frightens the cop, and that's why he pulls his gun out. Now, he's a bully L. If he if somebody gets hurt or the money gets injured a kill he's going to get off. He's behind that blue badge. She's a bully is that what you think of cops like writ large. That's how it is. That's exactly how it is not FM buts about it. Because it's hard for me. Because I think like like it's clear that there's discrimination that exists within the police force in the people who they are sworn to protect and serve. But like at the end of the day. There's probably a hand. Like, I don't know. I couldn't give you a percentage, but a number of officers in which lake yes, they are probably violent individuals who don't belong in a police force. But I would assume that lake a majority of the cops mean well have probably probably have some sort of bias where they don't think I see a black person. And I'm going to like I'm going to get that boy, but that there is like a liquor some sort of triggered response. And the police are constantly being put into different situations where they feel under threat and concerned, and that is like a whole host of factors leading to these moments where somebody is shot and killed. It's not just that. They're out here. Bullying people you say that because you're you're white. That's why you say that. I'll tell you what I'll tell you what we can try this go to my sister will make sure you get your week tennis. Lung get yourself spray black, and I guarantee you you'll get a different response. There you try. I bet you we can make you a black. Boy, I'm telling you, you'll see a huge difference. And that's just it. Like sitting like sitting there in that moment. I I felt I felt the Gulf and. I just kept wondering lake. How long does it take to fill that golf like how many children does it take? How many conversations need to happen? In any case. Do you want us to bend still had to give Natasha those files on Rodney to get those documents for you? Appreciate it. Sure. Okay. Yeah. Ben grab this huge folder of paper out of the trunk of our car. What side? Everything. Then put the stack of Ronnie's files on this glass kitchen table. Ten. Crime scene photos. Because I don't want to be the person. To give you those unless you want me to go get them right now..

I don't wanna scientist up there. No filter of suffocating. But it's also not. They're not going to land on this. They're gonna go around the moon. Right? You gotta go around. Yes, but it's still the first potentially potentially if it happens in five years time, thereabouts, it is the first mission. We know the Apollo program finished, do we know of SpaceX is using like basically just the same way that like NASA does it, but they just have the money to actually fund the new technology. This some new g. and this definitely new computing involved in it, but the basics of rocketry of the same as when they first started is basically they some as it depends. Some, they have different combinations liquid and saw that fuel, but it's basically high explosives in a big cylinder that then blocked out the back. Right? You know, they have some things that doing different and SpaceX is really bland nearing the landing of the first stage and all that kind of stuff. And that's impressive. I mean, they've got some incredible scientists working for them, and engine is sure so, and they all. So they're even isn't these private companies. So SpaceX and Boeing, which has a private rocketry company all working in league with NASA. So there will working together now that they using, they'll use NASA launch pads and Cape Canaveral and whatever the one in California is, and they working in of in concert to send satellites into space. So. They, I can see this happening. They already they, they already successfully launching multiple satellites into low Thula bits and only a matter of being more having more powerful rocketry really to get. And you send a billionaire up because his Elon Musk didn't say the amount of money he's paying, but he did confirm the amount would have a quote, non trivial impact on the big falcon rockets development. So let's reason to because the guy wants a ride share. Making this new. If you take a billionaire, who's funding the rocket fine, what is and then and then he's gonna take just an artist, like a social media or rocket. Bartender bartender. No scientists could go to dear moon earth or the hashtag dear moon is what he's using this project. Dr. No scientists know nobody knows shit about shit. I mean, I still think he's hasn't yet being a podcast in Luna Royal. Maybe you should contact moss. It'll only cost you an non trivial non trivial amounts of money. This guy said he's going to bring potentially. This group could potentially include painters sculptors photographers, good film directors, fashioned everybody with like a band-aid or like any experience at all? No, no. We're not going to have anybody who can knows how to like help cut or trans fecal transplant. I could go if. The space we need to don't my way out of this. Thought of them using the NASA launch Pat. And then just all of like Elon Musk employees coming in and using all of the NASA equipment like no NASA people or there like it's this big like it's like one of those weird coop spaces. You. Space? Yeah, most of them are but models. Yeah, for sure. I just don't understand how you're going to take all of those people like, so once you get up there, you just don't need any skills because I watched those going to live on the mood. I know that they will have to have genuine. I would've thought they'd have to have trade Bill training themselves, but also have to have people with various green because, yeah, you do need Oles astronauts ole specialize..

"I don't know. I feel better. Now you guys. Oh, the symptoms went away quickly within the next few months. I started having like better days and like up until that point. I really like having like like bad tummy issues, and I don't know. I don't know that it actually helps, but like I don't know that I was just like doing whatever I could. I was like, kind of the end of my rope, obviously. And also it's like an interesting weird thing. Yeah, I think like I dunno like. You do weird experimented if you don't wanna. Did it change your metabolism as well? Because I know that happen repulsive people who've had fetal transplants. There was one story. I don't know if we cut it in the show I think might not have done, but someone who'd had one of those transplants kids stomach issues. But also she suddenly gained like some something in the region of twenty pounds. Gorilla Dona. Yeah, because donor was a lodger person and she was like, yeah, I think I inherited the metabolism and the natural body way to the person and like, but I would do it again in a heartbeat. I feel healthier just happened to have a different set of equilibrium. Wait now, wait to what I did before had a six pack said, yeah, I was very fit back then, but I was also doing a lot of yoga and shitting my brains out, so I don't know. I don't know if that's both shitting everyone's brain. Yeah. Yeah, so that's my science. Yeah, I for for guests to believe that is definitely the first on that that we've had to the question. What's your background is. Well, you're welcome. No problem. Continue. This home listeners or do you please tell me what happened? Yeah. Yeah. Let's you'll Twitter account so people can let you know. I don't even know. Just look me up on Instagram. I can't to just show me your picture. Oh valves. Be a LLC. And there you cannot find detailed pictures of this process. Now that was so long ago before I was on. I wasn't on any social media before started comedy, to be honest. And you said you thought this was about ten years ago before anybody was talking about this? Yeah. Awhile ago. You will. So you're, you're a shift around that same time. Yeah. Yeah. 'cause I just know that 'cause we go talking about that lost. So you think money? Yeah. Yeah. So I guess, yeah. Chemistry. Yeah, you're like doing like all bunch of weird stuff. And so I don't know it also that that like you go a little crazy when you're like in that mentality and do anything to get better so that you can go work or whatever, you know. So as just kind of that, did you ever ask a doctor about this? This. No doubt. No, I people freaked out. I'm like, you can't have professional about this. I don't know how you start the conversation now. Yeah, that's the thing I actually did get into around the time. I did get into a talk with someone who was going to the university of Chicago for biology or something. He was. He was talking about how he was really interested in that process and like fecal transplant and stuff, and it was before any of the stuff had happened. Yeah, interesting. You mentioned the guy who got the shit from being able to eat anything and everything, including cans, you know, who else can cans goats. Stories. Great. What a sick way it wasn't my best work, but we still story said by Michael porter about the fact that goats prefer happy people. Goats can differentiate between human facial expressions and preferred interact with happy people. According to a new study led by scientists that Queen Mary university of London. The study which provides the first evidence of how goats read human emotional expressions implies the ability of animals to perceive human facial cues is not limited to those with a long history of domestication is companions such as dogs and horses Buddy's writing in the journal Royal Society. Opened science team describes how twenty goats, interacted with images of positive, happy, negative, angry, human facial expressions, and found that they preferred to look at interact with the happy faces. The picture on this like this goat is picking out of a lineup, oh, she goes straight for this. This is me..

"He would always talk about like you have to eat meat to get amino acids, and everything is sells. And I was like, I quit and I dropped out, but also, but also I'm like, one of those I came from like my mom's Italian. It's what my grandma would always like, give me this pseudoscience shit. You know what I mean? Like if you had a toothache, she'd be like, get a stick and you're like, what are? What are you gonna stink or whatever. Times barry. But I want the two, they wanna keep the to better know so. So like so I really into looking like ever have like an ailment I don't ever go the doctor. I always like, look it up. I'm like, read it or like or like, you know what I mean? You look up case studies or whatever. So I for a long time head like really bad tummy issues. God, what did you do. You guys. I am. This is fine. Okay. And I am fine, and I just need everybody to like, know that retelling, the young impressionable listeners before this do this, don't do this. So I looked up. I was like, oh, boy, I'm having all his tummy issues like really like my stomach just hurt so bad all the time. And I looked up like different things that people do. And one of them is. Fecal transplant, but they do it like with horses and basically just take whole tight. This top because we have on numerous occasions had fecal transplants stories on this show, including someone who has had a FICO transplant who wrote into us with a description of those about two years ago. Yeah. Okay. And so he described it, but they, this is the the idea behind this is the problem with your with your micro by. Okay. I am. I research all about gut by they did spec cars. You take from a healthy person and then he put it in your, but yeah, in your butt or in some cases swallow. It's an account. Fuel does not, but okay, but I've never heard of the case. This is why I stopped here. No, I didn't do a horse. Okay. Okay. Okay. We, we were on the same page and the we both immediately thought when he as well. And. Driving cross country. For twenty four hours since September first. This may be your co pilot on this journey had put whole shit above. I did not steal for all listeners. What's funny to you is Whitney's obsessed with horses. Okay. I didn't. I didn't. No, we're driving. So first of all, first of all, okay, no one should ever do this doctor, but second of all, don't take horses. Poop. I nothing with a horse. Why did you mention holes as the way that I came to? This was not like how you know how like nowadays everybody knows about fecal transplants is like ten years ago. Nobody knew about it and so I would adopter. Yeah. So I like just research, like what old world things to do because of my grandma and I was like, oh, when sick horses are sick, they take some. They take Turkey baser and take poop out of a healthy horse and then just St. Turkey based up the sick horse. Really? Yes, which is how they started doing that with humans. Okay. That was like the whole thing baster. All right. Yes, so so. Okay, that's an ancient like a horse cure thing. Thing, and this is something that now appears to be, although it's the may now be supported by modern medicine is medicine now. 'cause they're working a little capsules and shit. This is the origin of the term horseplay. You put your poop in my poop. Yeah. Just. When I was little, we'd always put each other's poops and you like I get outta here to horse around kids. It was always been my swimming pool. That old horse play, put horse, quit horse, and it's. Thinking. When you snow tits. Yes. So anyway, long story shorts, I knew a really healthy guy, and I was like, you have ads and art can eat anything..
