"Us play. I'm a paid professional. So I'm not going to do with TJ did earlier this week to me. When I mentioned tight ends and he starts laughing like he's three. No, but Brady loves a tight end. That's what he just said. And it's funny. And I didn't jump in. I waited. And then I jumped in. I was giving you props for saying something. Brian Robertson here, I'm going to go against your first opinion. Taylor Heineken talk about big lights. I mean, that dude went against Brady in the playoffs. And yes. I don't think he's, I think he's waiting, and I think he's sitting there going, you went to Indianapolis, when I've been doing what I've been doing and proved to you, I came off the couch and damn near beat Brady in a playoff game, that very year, and then I came back the next year and it was supposed to be the guy on Amazon with the beard, and then I stepped in there, because okay. And then you went to Indianapolis and got the guy that Indianapolis couldn't wait to get rid of and Philadelphia couldn't wait to get rid of, and now I think this offense is going to look better. I think the ball is going to come out in a way that it didn't with wince. And I think he's going to get out of the pocket in a way that wince didn't. And I think Brian Robinson is going to score. But that might be pretty much because I'm starting him and I need him to. I might be part of my Washington football team bias. You know, I try to keep them out. It's the commanders. The who? Ryan Phillippe is joining us in the studio and what's more likely and a special power ranking to go out to the weekend. Interesting. Yeah. Special power ranking. Do you like that? I got another one for you. I got one last one for you. Sneaky good games too. Let's rock. Games and they're sneaky, good. They are. I agree. They're good in their sneaker. What are you in the sneaky good? We're one game over. Oh, dude. We're one game over. So while we're talking gambling, have you bet against the Lakers in the first two games? How much did you start with 5 bucks? And you're going to keep on rolling it? Actually, I've been doing Larry Bird bets. What is that? $33? Yeah. So you put $33 against the Lakers in game one. Did that turn into $66? No, no, that's not how it works, rich. The warriors were big favorites. So I've turned a 29 50 profit so far. Well, doing it against the Lakers versus the warriors and them against the Lakers last night. I'm doing money line of their opponents. They're different each game. So right now, having bet against the Los Angeles Lakers in every game this year. You made $30. Hey. 66. But you've made $30. Yes. Okay. And you're going to continue to do this. I'm doing this 80 more times. Nice. And I will be very ahead when the season's over. How much do you, how much are you hoping to achieve? What you signed for right now? I would get to mid triple digits would be great. Oh. At this rate, I don't know. They're very good. I kind of dig this thing. It's full of spite. Yes. Very much my plan. I like it. Hey, chance, let's talk Halloween for a second. What is your favorite Halloween memory? One time I saw a nightmare before Christmas performed live at the Hollywood bowl. Walking with your kids. It felt so magical. And after they've got their candy and they walk away. So pure. The dad inside the house is handing you a beer. My dad when I get home, he would have me like empty out all the candy to make sure that it's safe. And it wasn't until I was about 35 that I realized, what the? He was just eating my candy. Rude. What's your favorite Halloween costume? One year I was Matthew McConaughey's character from dazed and confused. One year I was like, I would like to be roadkill. How long costume was a plastic smock? And then they really scratchy, plastic mask. I mean, you were styling if you had one of those Aquaman, the plastic mask cutting into your eyes, and then you

"Excuse me, hold up the Jim Brown autographed helmet. That's in front of your shirt. From like the 25 years ago. No, from the crayola box is what it is. What are you talking about? I think this is orange. Maybe my eyes are bad. How? Look, it's in an orange family, I think you can say, right? It's in the pink family. Okay, I'm trying to help him out. It's fine, but it's not good on you. Whatever. Thank you. I'm excited. Look the biggest game for our program in 25 years. That's it? Michigan's not a buy. We always, what does that mean? Oh, my gosh. It's not about you. We're talking about me now. We're talking about our teams. My team. Okay, so go ahead. What about your team? I'm here and you're here. Doesn't that make it our time? Mister hand. We lost it. Anyway, the line keeps going up. Clemson's two touchdown favorites. But we always play them tough. Beat them at the dome 5 years ago when they had Trevor Lawrence. It was a very one score game. Didn't one time dabble have to explain to the kids how Jim Brown was? Yes. When he came when he went to they did not understand who Jim Brown was. Kids, these days. Didn't understand why is 44 such a special number? Right, I know, right? I remember that. By the way, we are going to keep this close. Take Syracuse and the points. Dino, you know what dino should do? He should run down that hill. Or roll down it like my kids roll down like snow. Just roll down it. He should get one of those bird scooters. Someone would eat it one day. How does he not eat? I would be so fearful of eating and running down that hill. That's a steep hill. What's a degree angle? I'd like 45°. What do you think? It's steak, bro he is hauling ass down that day. College football, baby. College football. A big game. We'll come back. Somebody knows about playing big time college football games is playing a Monday Night Football game grown ass man of Chicago Bears. He's gonna try and fly around and make sure Roman Stevenson doesn't gain the edge and things like that because he could do that professionally. He's roquan Smith of the Chicago Bears, we're going to talk to him when we come back right here on the rich eisen show. And we'll find out together what Bill Belichick had to say about who's starting at quarterback for the Patriots. Influencer. It's a word that gets tossed around a lot these days. There is a woman who went the distance, who broke ground as the first true influencer by living a remarkable life. Her name, Elizabeth Taylor. I'm Katy Perry, this is the story of the original influencer. This is Elizabeth I. Elizabeth I, the podcast, wherever you listen. With the we're back here on the rich eisen show talking about McCaffrey. We might hear about this in what's more likely coming up. Okay. When you open a Mercedes Benz sprinter van, you're opening up more than just doors. You are unlocking potential the potential

"Ten. That? I was told there was going to be a vote. Okay. I got a call from our AD. I was actually playing golf with Ryan bay. And we were both back in New Hampshire. And I had a text from the AD and a call from the AD that I missed. Because my phone was in my bag, then I had a call from the assistant AD and a text from the assistant AD and normally as a head coach, you think what happened? Did somebody do something wrong? Right. What's the issue? Like, I got a call back and I was told in an hour there's going to be a vote that we're going to become a member of the Big Ten and make sure you don't tell anybody. And I said, well, I'm actually playing with a head coach in the Big Ten right now. What do I think? And not just any head coach, not just any Big Ten head coach. Either. No, so it was funny because I found out I'm 14, by the time we get to 16, he's just kind of looked at me and smiled. Our phones were both blowing up and someone tells me to do something I do. So I didn't say anything. You didn't. Everybody wanted to know what's going on. And I was like, I guess we're going to the Big Ten, but my point for the whole thing was when I talked to RAD, I said, what is this going to happen? And he said, in two years, and I was like, oh, okay. Well, that's an eternity in athletics. So our focus is this team this year and in 2000 24, I guess it is. Then we'll be in that league. But right now, our concentration of focus is on the 22 season. So I'm fascinated by this story chip Kelly. Did Ryan was he told by, I guess, what gene Smith, right? I don't know who Ryan exactly found out because I think media people were calling everybody. I bet. I bet you live right next to each other in New Hampshire. So his wife was there, my wife was there and they all kind of like what's going on and I just said, I don't know. I guess we're going to be on each other's schedule every year, starting in 2024. We're just hope in 2024. We're both at the same place. I think that's highly likely chip. But it is just amazing. I may be an assistant on his staff one, but Jeff Kelly, your card, man. But I'll tell you what. It is just wild to think that this is Big Ten country. And you have your home games in the spot that is The Crown jewel of where Big Ten teams want to wind up or in the many, many years have wanted to wind up. I mean, you're there. It's wild that this is happening right now. And the rose bowl. I guess, again, I know I'm asking this guy before he goes to Oregon play 9 versus ten, but how do you envision a Big Ten. Enhancing what you do and what you're building at UCLA? Chip. Yeah. I think the opportunities that the league offers you exposure wise obviously the TV contract and what that can do for what the services you can provide for your student athletes is outstanding and then as you know and I know you're a proud big tent and love yourself. If Michigan is going to open up on September 15th in the rose bowl is going to be a lot there's going to be a lot of blue in that stadium and it's not only going to be light blue. So I think the fact that there's so many Big Ten people that you meet that are out here now the fact that they don't have to get on a plane and travel to the Midwest to go see a game that they're going to get an opportunity to Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, know how to state all of them are going to get a chance to play here. It was a pretty cool deal. And it's such a story tradition to say UCLA and USC are in the same conference in Michigan or how safe I would imagine if someone went to a desert island and was a way for three or four years and then came back and was like, what happened? I think they would be I just think of that in the movie with Tom Hanks when he got on the desert island and came back and couldn't figure out why in the Houston oilers were in Tennessee. We have a football team now. I think if that happens and someone comes back and says, wait a second, UCLA is leading the Big Ten and with three games to go in the regular season. What's going on here? Yeah, I know. I was talking to volleyballs when I found out the news too. It really is weird. Kelly, there's no question about that. I had Martin in studio, the athletic director of UCLA. I told him, I asked him, do you have any cold weather gear? Do you guys have cold weather gear? This is the sort of stuff that I think about. I also got stuff from New Hampshire. You got that. You got that all covered. By the way, I told him I told him that if you get one of those winter winter lids, you can call it an 8 cap for UCLA. Okay. I'll give you credit. I will use the I'm going to use that again, but I'll make sure I give you a question. I appreciate that. Yes, when you put an 8 cap on, just think of me when that happens in 2024 and beyond. But in the meantime, good luck against Oregon and let's do this more often. Congrats on the nice 6 and O start first one since O 5 for the program. And we'll chat down the line. Thank you. Hi, buddy. Thanks for having me on. I appreciate it. Right back at you. Head football coach of UCLA chip Kelly right here on the rich eisen show. There goes a chip up to Oregon. That's going to be weird. I know he says he's been there twice, but not like this. Yeah, exactly. Zip for both schools, both programs. It's on. Right? Tennessee following up that big win against UT Martin. That'll be a big one. Wait a minute. Wait, wait, T Martin has his own team? Syracuse, what are you calling this week? Clemson, baby. Massive matchups. 14 5. Let's go. Are you wearing salmon just for not wearing salmon? Will somebody explain to this man? That this is not orange. Is it not the same? Kind of sandwich. Excuse me, hold up the Jim Brown autographed helmet. That's in front of your shirt. From like the 25 years ago. No, from the crayola box is what it is.

"It's just that maturity. Sometimes you see The Rookie quarterback in the NFL trying to do way too much and then once they kind of climb the speed of the game, they settle down and they start to really blossom in year three and year four and that's what we're seeing here. The cool part about it is that he's had an opportunity, it's your 5 year, but he's played in all 5 years. It's not like he sat for two or three years and was watching. He's got a ton of game reps underneath his belt and I think he could use those experiences and reflect back on him to help him make really, really good decisions. And that's what he's doing right now. You're going to have a busy pro day with him, I imagine, right? I mean, I know we're going way down the road here, but you just mentioned NFL quarterbacks, right? Would you say? Got a lot of interest. When you said it earlier, quarterback is the position in this. So everybody's looking for them. And I think Dorian coming back has put himself in really good shape. When it comes to postseason stuff and drafts and whatnot. Chip Kelly here on the rich eisen show, you know what championship college football team looks like. Do you think you got one? Right there, chip. What do you think? Yeah. And I think the cool part about if you think you got one, you really understand that each week is a season and you've got to focus and conference with just on that week. We tell our guys, we'll pick our heads up in December and see where we are. And I think it's about being consistent over the course of time. You can't be highs and lows. There can't be, we put really good against 15, but we didn't play that well the next time we had a chance to go play. So it's that consistent behavior that you have to do it day in and day out. Weekend and week out. And that's what makes me think that this team is special because up until today, they've been that way every day has been really good when they continue to stack good days on top of good days. And that's what good teams do. Do you have to temper your kids? Nick Saban calls it rat poison when things are, I guess, I guess rose bowl pedals get thrown at your feet, you know? What do you think? Yes. I don't disagree with Nick and if you're in that situation, we have not gotten to that point yet. Okay. We were an underdog against Washington. Then we were in the underdog against Utah. We're the underdog this week against Oregon. So I don't think we're throwing our arms out of our socket pattern ourselves in the back right now. We know the challenges that we face because we paid this will be the third straight ranked team that we played and that's what our sole focus and attention is on. Chip Kelly here on the rich eyes and show head coach of UCLA football. You've been able to call yourself a lot of things chip Kelly, for instance, running backs coach for New Hampshire, defensive coordinator for Johns Hopkins. Oregon had football coach, head football coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. San Francisco forty-niners. Did you ever think you'd be able to refer to yourself as a Big Ten coach? Big Ten football coach? Everything that's possible. I did not. That was how about that. I found out about an hour before that happened and that was that was not anything that was on my radar. Really. An hour before that's the heads up, you got was like, hey, we're going to the Big Ten. That? I was told there was going to be a vote. Okay. I got a call from our AD. I was actually playing golf with Ryan bay.

It's not your typical broadcast. You know critique if you will it's at least in my mind maybe his line myself. But i kind of see it as two brothers watching an nfl game at a bar in the viewer is watching it with us. And we're watching it as a fan right. I mean you may use the word ambassador but really as a fan. I mean i. I love watching football. I mean since. I stopped playing by. Sit out. you're not gonna wanna watch football. You gonna miss it too much. Not true got to do it for a long time. I love the fact that i got to play it. And now i'm a fan. I like watching. Mahomes play just like i used to like watching far play. I like watching josh allen play so they defend that. I get to watch a monday night game with my brother that i haven't done since..

Close to me helming. I would celebrate. That's a big win. That's his signature win so far last hour. We of course we were talking about coaches in the nfl as you would come to expect on this program and You know we. We had our taste and hot guys. Nfl wise and we got some tweets about this dan in new berlin dude. Matlock floor has to be on the last half of wisconsin's wives have him on. They're hall pass. This is from shonda. You're kidding me right being a female cleveland. I can honestly say that You could hear ovaries dropping when what yes could hear that. And you can hear over his dropping. When kevin stefanski was named new coach the brown that might be the first ovaries mention on this show. I'll check back. Okay thank you. Paul denise sends in a tweet matlock floor but now he is competition in robert sala. This is from mel. It's absolutely not. Gruden is paulie okay again i. I'm respecting his earlier. These are women who were speaking paul. I trust them. Okay let's see here's another one Current jeff fisher's mustache has to put him on the list. Brianna says kyle shanahan cliff kingsbury. We left shannon out of the original josh although he was implied in the nfc. West hotness implied. Let's see here's another one. Can we please get either a hot coach draft or hot guys of sports draft. Maybe i'd guys have sports. Non player coaches broadcasters. Front office do we want to do. A hot coaches draft here if we include european soccer coaches. We're gonna be here for a week. I didn't even know how we got on that by the way yesterday. I was railing on the texans. And maybe the media. I don't know anything more about to shawn watson going back to february about his playing status. We found out some things off the field. There's more reports about that. But he's probably not going to be deposed until next february and thought okay. is he a healthy scratch. A why is he. Not playing in for the for the texans this year yes yesterday. And why aren't the reporters. I don't want to call it all of the houston texans media. Police say this number of to. Why can't they ask more direct questions and get something out of them on record like whoa what. We're all wondering this. Why can't they be asked the head coach general manager. Why is he not playing yet. Just pin down just to say okay. He's healthy right. He's not a distraction right. You said that so who is benching. Deshaun watson is benching himself are you paying him for a guy who doesn't want to play for the organization. Abused is the league involved in this. Nick caserio is the for the texans. He had this to say on sports radio six ten this morning. Nick shawn watson on the fifty three man roster. What's the plan for him this sunday. Yeah wouldn't expect him to play. So i think our focus is on getting ready for jacksonville and we've talked about. It's really day to day so we'll We'll take it one day at a time But i wouldn't have dissipated employee on sunday and recalibrate here. We go okay. Well why is he not playing. Nick why is he not playing. Who made that decision for him. Not to play. I'm just surprised. Now you can say. Maybe they don't want to say. But i still would want to know if i'm a reporter in there is bad optics for the organization. We both agree that it's best that he does not play right now. Like like if you say that at least we have an answer. We both agree. This is not the best time for him to play. We're still trying to sort out everything you know. But he's at practice. Why have on the field at all you said. He's not a distraction but then he must be a distraction if he'd be plays. Yeah paulie you always want to ask the question. Why is your eligible to play healthy star quarterback not starting this weekend and if you could answer that he's eligible to play if you say well he's being charged with this. No no not yet. He's has been charged with anything. He still held the league by the team by everybody. Unless we don't know. And i don't know if the league's involved in this behind the scenes saying we don't we don't want him on the field not with everything that's hanging over him the club. I'm even wondering. I'm starting to wonder about twenty twenty two because if he's out to postal february and we're talking like a three year trial. Why what's the endgame here. Well the end game would be settling but you know it's both sides of several not going to settle now. They said that for now. I don't know if you it's like you know somebody not getting trade ben. Simmons isn't getting traded until he gets traded it at some point you okay. I'm going to blink. I'm gonna call your bluff. What is the price. Are you willing to pay the final hour coming up. "Do both. I think that's what makes you so. I think that's what we're all striving for could coaches teams. They played to their strengths. And that obviously are running game right now. Is the stress to you wish you were playing this weekend. I do. i mean. I wish we played every day to the honest with you but obviously the nature of the game. You know it's not baseball. You only get twelve opportunities. We did get an early game and that was beneficial to us. I think you grow the most between your first gaming your second game the fact that it was our second in there i was an advantage for us But because we played a week zero game you're going to have to get another by in there in our our first by occurs this week So we'll use this as an improvement week or route the field in about an hour. We'll get a couple of training sessions in this week and then get ready for a really good fresno team. We played oregon. Really close this this past weekend. He's chip kelly. Ucla head coach joining us. Dan patrick show. You're there in hollywood. You know all these actors famous people you get mistaken for anybody. Jackie chan maybe an older villa ice. I you know. I don't i. Don't thank goodness. You could be a farley brother okay. They're funny they are. I'm not as funny as i could laugh. I would be like the early just laughs while the other guys still jokes. Are you funny in practice my mood. I can be sarcastic in practice. Which is my northeast upbringing. I think i'm funny. Someone else because alabama players talk about nick sabin and they say he's funny in practice. Yeah i would think it depends on who the players or bella. Bella check the players who play for him like bill. He's got a great sense of humor he goes. i think. That's one of the biggest misconceptions in this world because everybody judges bill by soundbites With the media. But as a person when you visit with bill amman. He's one of the most intelligent well-thought-out sharp people. I've ever met my entire life. So i can see that bill got a great sense but to see crack you like. How does it work though chip. When when when you're out at dinner or your you know what would what happens. It's just i think people have a perception and then there's the reality in I think he's really sharp. It's it's a dry wit and a lot of times. It's coming out of left field. 'cause there's a could be a serious conversation going on in the air like each say that and it's It's hilarious but he's really really smart in intelligent humor. It's pretty it's pretty. It's pretty funny but you talk can talk football when you go to dinner with village. I think he can talk football. Twenty four seven million so the conversation. I always goes back to that. But then it changes when he'll tell you about his trips and where he's bannon what he's done he's not just a football guy. Twenty four seven. But he's his he may be one of the world. The morals most interesting math yet. Chess visit and talkable. But he's never going to let that happen does chip. That's what makes interesting You have no sissy blue shirt on today. I say i just heard about that Yesterday so I do a lot because those are our school colors. I guess so. We do wear those shirts. a lot. that's part of what we show up to on home game so I it was just. It was funny. I've got a people had fun with it. There's a lot of banter that goes on when you walk into stadiums. I've learned that it's better just to not say anything and get into the locker room but coach Konczal can handle himself. So i i worry about that fan. He'd better make careful. He says i wouldn't want to argue with. Oh well the joke is funnier when you win. So it's dan isn't that always the case. Yeah good luck thanks. Congratulations on the win against lsu. Great to see. We've come a long way. Since i had gone during covert and we know what the hell was going on with college football and it seems like a long time ago it does. I was in a submarine for about sixteen months. In the only time i ever came up from air was to talk to you guys. It's good to finally be autumn submarine and and back out with fans in the stands and back to some sense enormously. So it's it's It's good it's good. We just got to keep this thing rolling. "Habit. I think he might get the emmys. I don't know if you're gonna get the oscars you want. Maybe i get slighted therefore the next day that's when you guys come to my rescue and then you start this grass roots protest. Yes got fifteen billion dollar box office actors always say oh you know how much my movies have earned at the box. I mean i'm. I'm up there for a couple of billion dollars. I think i mean i am. I've been involved in In movies that have made a couple of billion dollars. Yes police say twenty years from now you kick and you know you're in in memoriam and they go in alphabetical order and thus dan patrick meryl streep there's always a chance. Well merrill's not going to get immemorial she'd get something thrown they would name something The they'd name on the oscar after her. Yes yes you baby. You'll get golden globes tagore's or something. Well definitely sag. That's for sure. The sag awards and we'll talk to coach kelly. I i guess. I would take leo because you still get to do that. Jeeter doesn't get to go down on the field and play anymore. And leo still gets those moments by the way if you've never seen what's eating gilbert grape. Leo's best acting. And and you gotta johnny depp in there. But i think that what's eating gilbert grape. I thought that leonardo dicaprio was spectacular. Yes boeing going back to the sink. The capri oh never. Does it in front of a crowd he. I don't know if he's in plays that often but he does his entire craft in in a lot with a set and crew. He doesn't perform in front of thousands of people something to be said for playing baseball for acting. Oh i get it. But he doesn't get to do that anymore so leo doesn't get to play in front of crowds but millions of people are in the crowds to watch him perform it. Just they're not doing it live. He should show up at the theater. Yes mclovin i think silvio's who has a second career as environmental activists. I think it's actually his first career. Now jeeter's running the marlins i think. Leo's having a little more success in each year right now. Is it possible. The marlins will taint jeeter's winning legacy a little bit all. I think it's pretty strong legacy that even that kind of jordan with the yeah with. Yeah and even with the hornets whole question. Tougher jobs stopping global warming. Getting the marlins title related weirdly enough. I'd say the marlins probably trying to get them title global work global warming all right. Yeah but you try to get the marlins through the world series. Try that again. Our boy don mattingly still still slug through that. We're waiting on chip kelly. What else do we have made their real baseball. Paul okay. would you rather have these careers. Which one of these crews derek jeter mariano rivera who is called the first one hundred percent hall of fame boat. I believe what can griffey junior ricky henderson. Proceeding or cal ripken junior and i don't think there's an obvious answer. I mean ricky was the most amazing athlete out of all those guys. Because i think ricki could have been a a defensive back or running back in football and cal ripken's moral out of all of those players. Nobody is the best at their position. The way maryono was. Yes mcglone gotta be the kid. You gotta be griffey junior. The most popular of that group i would say but he had sort of a pool holes like careered that first half well without winning titles but first half. He was incredible. And then the second half you know. He was injury play. It was just the way. Ken griffey junior played. And did you see the standing ovation for albert pujols last. This is why. I talk about saint louis fans. They're the nicest our holes comes in. They give him a forty second standing ovation. It's a home run yati or molina's crying behind home plate when it comes to the plate do you think yati goes forth pitch fastball. Because he homered on the fourth pitch. I'm not saying he did it. I'm just saying maybe. There's a possibility chip kelly fourth year at ucla and to beat hawaiian lsu and coach joins us on the program coach. Congratulations how did you celebrate after the win against lsu home because it was an again so there wasn't a lot of celebration neo. Play the games here on the west coast on. Get your sleep so we had be back in the next day rated film so just went home after it again. Nothing came to well okay it. It feels like this was a big win. Did it feel like a big win to you. it did. I think the rose bowl was electric on know. Obviously you're playing a team from lsu in the sec west. The reputation that they have and what a good football program. It is so our guys excited about. But also i was sorta surprised that the physicality of of your team against a team from the sec. Normally see it the other way around. How important was was it to try. I mean you guys push them around certainly in the running game. Were you surprised that that's just what we are you don't know. I don't think we were surprised. But i i. That's what we have to do to win. You know that's our strength on. We've got a veteran offensive. Line coming back to really physical running backs So we knew going into the game for us to have any success in the offense. We're gonna have to run on and then our play action pass Was really successful. Coming off of that on but that that's kind of we are you know we're not gonna try to because we have an opponent in here like. Hey let's line up in in Novak's the whole game and throw the ball over the joint. You know that's not what we do And it's really the test. Is we do what we do. They do what they do. And then you see if it works and we were fortunate. Come out on top. But when did you decide that you wanted this style of offense as opposed to what everybody else is trying to do in college. Football nets five wide. And let's just flinging around. Yeah i left college. We were basically five wide flinging around and head shiny helmets and then when i came back to college everybody had it So maybe just being a contrarian let's go the other way on but it was also a byproduct of the players that we had to your wife through a lotta tight ends solicit exploit them When i was in the. Nfl i had and brent celik. We were in twelve personnel locked in the nfl. So i learned a lot about playing with multiple tight ends So we're just trying to play to our strengths. And now we've got a good group of those guys and we have to tough are no physical running back so it fits us right now and i wonder about that that would we see this like basketball. Everybody shoots the three. And i wonder if somebody's going to be contrarian and go. Hey you're gonna have to stop us inside. You know having a running team as opposed to everybody. You know defensive. Players are not as big as they once were their speed gonna cover. Everybody and i wondered about that with college. Football are you. Are you trying to exploit that. You see an opening here. Yeah you're spot on you know. A lot of people ourselves included have put more speed on the field on the defense side of the ball. But if you put more speed on the field you sacrifice some size So what is the match up that you're trying to exploit you know if they're small. You wanna go vague. And if they're big you wanna go small so the key is having the ability to do both you know and and whatever the situation dictates you can do it and i think that's what the good teams do you know. You look at alabama. Who's probably the top team in the country You know last year. They through the heck out of the ball with mack jones and all those receivers but they could run the heck out of the ball with maji harris also so they have if you have the ability to.

Kelly and you're trying to get this program back and all of a sudden you look at your schedule and you go right. Open up with hawaiian. Gosh got lsu. Now look where he is today beating. Lsu they got fresno state coming up in fresno state is no pushover fresno state is a good team and oregon had a hard time putting them away. If you're a star player or star quarterback. I dunno high school quarterback in the los angeles area. How much poll would you feel from. Usc and ucla verses the heavyweights and other areas of the country. Well why is los angeles losing these quarterback because usc and ucla are signing them and rice. Young's in alabama g j you. Is it clemson back now. Corral is that ole miss. Jt daniels was at usc. But you know keyed on slovak is a is a kid out of arizona. But why aren't you keeping these quarterbacks in town because he used to be or like Which ones do we want. In fact let's have a couple of them on the roster. Here and usc normally would get those quarterbacks here john mclovin demise be a little bit remember. We had all those texas quarterbacks on who got tried to convert to safety at university of texas so texas loss all star quarterback or g. Three johnny mandel. Well those two in particular. Yeah yeah. I don't think that's what ucla usc during their trying to convert these guys. No no i don't think so. Yeah paul that it feels like usc still has that brand though you know. Ucla is good seasons and average seasons but ucla usc. Despite the record they don't have the the coach who's ikea household named clay helton's good coach seem to be doing well but they don't have the household name guys anymore and you know you can look at who. Ucla has now dory and thomson robinson who've pits chips style of offense as to why they're having success. But you know really the the most amazing thing to me was the physicality of ucla's team against lsu and me we may look back on that lsu national title with joe borough as an aberration here. Now normally you'd think lsu and you think they're going to be there then you don't get that feeling this year certainly didn't have it last year. Eight seven seven three. Dp show email address gps. It's better to be ranked the not ranked but where you're ranked you don't wanna get too far down. And then when it gets to november december. You're trying to move up. Maybe get into the playoffs or playing a different ballgame and a lot of times. What happens with these bowl games. Is they start picking. They want to be in their bowl games. If you're not playing for the national championship what other questions. We have mclovin. Okay derek jeter is going into the hall. finally We have a couple whose career would and you remember a more quiet hall of fame moment in baseball history for one of the more marquee players in baseball history. Derek jeter like it's like a allow by the way dirk jeeter's getting inducted into the hall of fame not a lot of fanfare and i know that it was postponed due to pandemic but they usually do this july here. We are in september club. Okay so there's two angles you go. You go the baseball angle and compare them to other luminaries from his era or you could go on the ladies man angle and really the only person would get put up against him who stayed out there for a long time polly. Here's a question who's career where you want in every sense of it derek. Jeter leonardo dicaprio. You are a household name baseball player yankee. A legend of immortality. And sodas leo in the hollywood world similar career pass stars when they're young ones married. Yeah the tough one. Well leo can do this. The rest of his life everything the rest of his life and he's always going to be acting like derek jeter is in the front office and you know he's in the front office of a team that nobody really cares about. You're you're a yankee immortal leo is. That's hollywood immortal immortality. I would probably go leo. Because i can still do what i'm famous for doing. Acting either for the rest of my life. I can do that. Yes see which one of them is more respected by their peers for the craft. Yes in baseball in the baseball community. Is derek jeter respected and in the acting community. Leonardo dicaprio think jeeter has an old school type. Feel to him now. He's not flamboyant. he did it the right way. He was big and big games. He won championships. Leo variety of roles He's only got one academy award. I believe for revenue. Nancy but there are teeter. Was you know the whole. He was never the best shortstop on his team. thing he does he does get the knock of being overrated. He was never. Mvp underappreciated thank. You think then. He's actually underrated yes. He's actually under. Yes todd i think i'll take the sports fame also i know. He's acting for real but leonardo dicaprio as an actor. He's portraying other people fictitious or not there judas doing real things as derek. Jeter if you want to look at it that way. He's like a real person doing real things associated derek. jeter as opposed to someone acting as other people. Okay although as an actor thespian actor. Thank you cheaters rawls. Oh it's great. Yeah by the way to more movies with sandler. I i gotta be up to around twenty two movies. Now i think in memoriam. Oh i got to be when i die. Kademi ward night in memoriam. I gotta get my face up. There got to yes mclovin.

"Definitely getting objection Because i was progressing to acquaint. Where probably i would have been on track to you know. Be back on the football. Fill in early in twenty twenty on like playing a right lane at that point. But you know this about four months out my initial reconstruction surgery range emotionally great Back in the weight room doing things way ahead of schedule. I got an infection which resulted might for more surgeries on so that was the hardest day and just the hardest process Starting swear run one in rehab in terms of getting selection on my knee. This spacey sesame back eighteen months really to get back to our wanted to get to but this is one of those things. You know. Like those some curveball. Sometimes and i had to sit in. That mattered walks in on. Right pits know here. I am September twenty twenty one was the That was meant for me to sit back out there. Did you ever talk to alex. Smith alex tax me on. I think when i got cleared to start practicing on last year and i was really cool being able to watch him last year or go through and you know he. He probably had worse than me with what he went through so the singing him come back in as james smith guys like teddy bridgewater. Obviously you know some of. There's more today extent by alex but they still went through it. You know what i mean. They went through that. They went through what they had to in the plane out elite level so seeing guys like that just gave me all the motivation road that i couldn't that nature when you go back to the injury did you realize what did you realize. At the time. I knew it was bad. I just seem la dangling like that. I knew it wasn't like a normal. Acl or anything like that on obviously having russia hospital kinda dizzy concerns and stuff like that Waking up with know external metal bars to three feet sticking out of your leg is a homeland. You know what i mean having to go from really liked the best best player in at any any game on the field for not being able to walk for an extended amount of time. Really like six months and this is a hamlets puts things in perspective. And then when you get back the point where. I'm at being able to run jump cut play the game. You love again or makes more sleet. We're talking to mac milton and you got jacksonville. State is weakened who starting. I'm not served. That's that's a. That's a question for the head coats my Earnings that's out of my pay grade. You're turning twenty four and october. How how much grief do you get from your eighteen. Nineteen year old teammates to bullets too much. They're all there all the time late or was this your eight tenth year college. It's all good fun. I love being locker room. I love i love. I love being around guys is is. There's nothing like it going to be a coach when you're done. Yes that's grand plan. Are you gonna stay at florida state. I'm not sure wherever the opportunities present themselves not for like made some great connections had had great insight from Frost kotite will so on learn from great offense of minds. And i feel like the toes i learned from them will equip me wherever i go. See the problem with you coaching. No mac is whenever you have an injury. Then they're gonna. They can't get any sympathy from. You is hard for me to feel sorry for people like when they get hurt. I i have empathy for them going through that that we have process. But it's a mayes it in how you in how you tag it so on whenever my guys when her my teammates go through it. I'm always there trying to pick them up and support them. But you know that's the cars that they were dealt a nasa cars at. They'll so everybody's got their battles the fight you know i had mine and you know we got some guys going through some things right now. So it's me. Support them through. Just like my coaches didn't he. I asked this to alex smith. I said nobody ever ask you about your good leg. So let me ask you. About how. Good leg mac is ozzy. Sometimes it probably gives me more problems bionic. You have a bionic right leg. I gotta terminator congrats. It's a great story. But it's not done and i know you can't satisfied by just making a little cameo against notre dame but Sir yeah good luck to to jordan air with that competition. Because i'm sure you'll be. You'll have your helmet on for every game. Ready to go in a congrats mac. It's a great story and good luck. The rest of the season averaging. That's mackenzie milton. Florida state quarterback lot attitude on that guy. I mean you have a chance to really talk about your comeback and make it about you. But but he doesn't he. Hasn't i wonder who you start. This next game. Yep you're right though when you pointed out the coverage with the mom and dad on the silence and an stance. The dad seem like energized. my son's in the game. Let's go let's get this first down and it felt like mom was not on what the right word is not at all happy that her son was in the game both happy and terrified simultaneous. I don't think mom wanted him to try to play football again and even when he was playing football. I don't know if she was thrown. That's one of those where you sort of watch out of one. I you put your hands over your eyes and you're like the but as pretty a pretty powerful moment there chip. Kelly will join us coming up. Ucla head coach following the win against lsu and We'll get phone calls. Got our poll question. There anything else we need to mention. Are we staying with saint poll. Question mclovin yeah. I sorta just put it up. Who's more likely to return the chiefs or the box. We have couple of baseball polls for later in the show as well. "When you have everybody back we assume it is but then sometimes you like i. I love that The buccaneers they took try on out of washington. I just i'd like adding something else in there. The receiving core godwin's injured. I expect a lot. Out of my kevin's i don't know what i get out of antonio brown. I don't know what i'm going to get out of gronk. You got some running. Backs is the offensive. Line gonna be really good again. We know the defenses. Good i mean. This might be a defensive first team as we saw in the super bowl. Kansas city wide receiving core. How much depth de have there. You got a new offensive line. Is the defense good enough now. Everybody has questions attached to them. And even trying to rubber-stamp buffalo's yeah buffalo. They're going to be great again. I don't know. I think josh allen was more valuable to his team than just about anybody else now. Aaron rodgers was wonderful. But i just thought what josh allen did for an offense that i didn't think it was a great offense now yet stefan digs but i didn't think the offensive line was great running game. Now you're hoping that defense is going to be formidable and you're in a pretty tough division because the jets will be improved. I don't know if they're gonna knock somebody off in surprise you. Miami's good. new. England will be good. Buffalo is a chance to be elite but there there are some really good teams in the nfc. Cleveland can be really good baltimore. Maybe they've had the injuries though. So i think it's hard to handicap that and go definitely. Kansas city is going back to the super bowl. I would just say tampa. Because i don't think there's more than four teams in the nfc that can go to the super bowl where it feels like. There's a little bit more top end competition for kansas city. Yeah pong packers. Last year led the nfl and scoring at five hundred nine points. Thank you always think that they need more on to more help on. Offense scored five hundred nine points last year. Only two teams scored over five hundred. Well i think that that's where you look at. And this could be aaron rodgers in probably is they have good group of wide receivers. You got a good running back and the offensive line is it comes down to the secondary no secondary a missed out on some plays but it's been the secondary now. Do you have anybody on defense that you go by can count on those players to come. Big big game yarmulke. I heard Some analysts guy saying regression in the mean with tampa bay like they had no injuries in the postseason and the odds of doing that. Two years in a row is proven not to be likely so injuries. I mean i know you're you're talking about your prediction but injuries. Such a huge factor. Yeah now you add an extra game at some point. Tom brady is not tom brady. I would never bet against him but at some point where you go okay now. We're starting to see that. He is not as quick with a release or his arm. Not as strong or he's processing the game. I don't know at some point. Although it's a max kellerman where i said at six years ago. The tom's fallen off a cliff went those hotcakes. They can come back and burn you. But i'll make my super bowl prediction tomorrow on the program. Mackenzie milton for state. Quarterback had quite a weakened even though floors state lost that game in overtime to notre dame sort of the backstory. We had him on the show three years ago. He was in central florida and Scott frost and this was that that great resurgence with that program and he was electric quarterback out of hawaii and Then he got injured devastating injury and they thought at some point they were gonna. They might have to amputate his right leg. And then he had surgery after surgery seven surgeries. There was an infection in there and I just thought you know. Money's probably going to be a coach somewhere and all of a sudden. This ghost appeared reappeared on the sidelines with florida state. And i go. Oh my gosh. Mackenzie milton is on the sidelines. There with florida state but he joins us now. I know it's been a long journey. But let me let me go back to jordan. Travis's helmet comes off in the game and then you go in but when you go in. Do you think you're in there for longer than one play. I didn't know. I didn't know what the coaches thought process was in that situation when an area called past play though smash concept and not the corner route after had a big plastic are not stay in because usually like to go campbell after get i also not as state in her no road and then momentum energy you get adrenaline going. How important was that for you and did at any point you think about your knee your leg. Yeah always you that first completion and always get that. I first downs. In borne. Anytime you're trying to get in a rhythm so in-house day to hit that first routes and just sticks and and i think i got would not gonna bent up little. Obviously i felt like tackle on my way but also think twins. I didn't find anything uncomfortable. So not good out there for good running cutting sliding as lot back that there you realize how tough it was on your parents watching. I know my mom was on number. Mom she don't really want me playing football. You wanna get into coaching already. But i think you can all leave. You can only truly understand you know if you go through it you played amny love this game to to come back from something like i did. And that's really any injury on any tough injury that go through kind of takes a twisted individual that Pain lyster does loves his game so muscle put the put their body to extremely tough things to play this game. Hi low how many times did you say. I can't do it out there. That i can't do it. There's definitely times. I i don't know if i can do this. Disinter whether it be out. my leg would be killing me like ten out attempting days it. I didn't feel like doing it. But i had great teammates. Great people pushing through my rehab on. Obviously you gotta have some internal motivation. Having those people around you that those right support systems makes all the difference in what had ucf to my time here on this pushing meets. Help me reach my goals. I set for myself now spiteful. Volume was the worst day ahead..

I mean, he wasn't going out there tackling anybody. It looks like he wants Joe Burrow back at this point in time. Like I don't need somebody to come through and have a historic college football season where he just throws 60 touchdowns. I mean, is that what he wants? Is that what he needs? It didn't work out because U C l A. They beat l s u 38 to 27. You can go ahead and put U C l A in the big winner category right there with Georgia and the Bulldogs and L s u You just got to kind of move them to the side. Good for you. C l A. I mean, this is Chip Kelly. It's like he's still waiting to have a winning season. Gets there in 2018. What does he do? Lose goes three and nine. What does he do in 2019 lose? Go for an eight. "Bruce you had a a i would say you know even better than front row seat for one of the more Eventful results from saturday. You were the sideline reporter for lsu ucla. You've been telling us for months that. Ucla was gonna be this much improved physical team. I was very skeptical. I think most people were skeptical though. That's exactly what they went and did to. Lsu what was it like. There are at the rose bowl. Stu my ears are still ringing from last night It was a really fun atmosphere. I know a lot of people. Don't last week notice. There's so many empty seats at the rose bowl when they played hawaii and they kind of just kind of smirk at at the vibe around the rose bowl and the place was Was basically packed and there was a bunch of lsu fans but it wasn't. I won't point. I thought it was gonna be fifty. Fifty was probably seventy five. Twenty five or so Ucla but it was really good energy in the building. I thought from our meetings. We went to practice on friday. Just a lotta confidence about what they they feel like. They have become at ucla and chip. Kelly told us we gotta remember the for context when he first got there they had sixty three players go through spring. They had one hundred fifteen this year and the the first year at fifty seven scholarship guys may be seven. Scholarship offense alignment now. They're well over eighty scholarship guys. It's just it built to this. And so i think like you. Lsu it was really interesting. Tommy moffitt is lsu strength coach. And he's been at lsu for a long time but before that he was at tennessee. He's been around some big big time programs and he said he was while they are a really good-looking football team watching them. More mob

"Going on with Robert Sala? Where in the world is Robert saw? He's in Philadelphia today. There's a long list of potential coaches there. Arthur Smith, the offensive coordinator. The Tennessee Titans is going to be their asses well, but Jeffrey Lurie apparently interviewed of Robert last night. How do I know that? Because it's on John Clark's Twitter feed, and I trusted at J. Clark, NBC s and he joins us, courtesy of the human guest line. Hi, John. How you doing? Good. How are you? Good. So what do we know about Jeffrey Lurie Talking to Will Robert saw the last night? Well, they are actually down here in South Florida meeting at Jeffrey Lori's very nice winter home in Palm Beach, Florida and I tell you I'm kind of surprised because Robert Sallah. I thought from what I have heard just blew the Jets away with his interviews and they had him in yesterday for I believe a second interview. And the Eagles were able to say to him. Hey, we really want to interview and they picked him up on Jeffrey Loria's plane and then took him down to Palm Beach, Florida. So, um, I was surprised about that, because everything I had heard was that the jet Really love him. And I don't know the level of the Eagles interest because I I really think they're gonna hire an offensive coach to be the head coach. But, um, you know what? From what? I hear this guy really impresses people in interviews and could blow them away, too. So everything else being equal? I'd rather be in Palm Beach, Florida in Philadelphia, even though you know I love Philly John, but this time of the year, it's nice to be down there. So you already dropping knowledge. I thought they were doing that They know of a carrot complex, but The other part of the dynamic that intrigues me is Howie Roseman. And, uh, you know, he's when Chip Kelly got got higher. They're one of the first things he did was, you know, keep, uh how we away from the football side of it, and then ship gets fired. Obviously, Howie is more prominent. Just the is Howie Roseman down in Florida is well interviewing Robert Sala. And what is the dynamic between Jeffrey Lurie, Howie Roseman and the eventual head coach? Well, Yeah, I think I think all of the Eagles executives in front office. They're down here in Palm Beach, Florida as well. They basically moved the operations down here. Why not during a pandemic? It's nice down here. On Gluck. You know, just Laurie is very, very much aligned with Howie Roseman. And you know all the things that Howie Roseman does beyond the general manager. Keeping in touch with everyone in the league agents, players, coaches having relationships all over the league on Don't think about how he Roseman is, You know, Chip Kelly Chip Kelly made a mess when he became general manager and had full control and how he Roseman had to undo that mess, and he did it so quickly. That a lot of the moves he made paid off to win the first Super Bowl in the history of Philadelphia. So, yes, they have not drafted as well over the last couple years and how he is in charge. He makes the final call, so that is on him. Now he consults the scouts and the coaches. And in some of these decisions like Jalen regular ever just in Jefferson. Some of the coaches felt that they needed the speed of jail in regular over Justin Jefferson. So, um How he's going to have to draft well this year or there could possibly be a change there. But right now it is Jeff Laurie and Howie Roseman, and they will decide who the coaches but Jeff Laurie is probably More in charge of hiring the new coach, Um this time or basically, I would say full control, leading the search to pick the new head coach. John Clark is joining us from NBC Philadelphia Robert Sala interviewing in Florida with the Philadelphia Eagles and apparently blew the Jets away, But they didn't They didn't give an offering. So he's on there. Talk to the Eagles. Obviously, the biggest questions surrounding the eels is what they're going to do at the quarterback position to get rid of winds. They'd have to eat a lot of money. What do you think happens there? Well from everything that I hear on from listening to Eagles owner Jeffrey Lori the other day in announcing the firing of Doug Peterson seems to me they looked at. Okay. Who do we have? The most invested in and committed to his far is money and it's Carson Wentz, and it would really damage the franchise for a year or two. On the surface of it if they were to trade Carson Wentz, So I think priority number one would be to try to see if they can fix Carson Wentz and get him to a good great level again. So you know, you heard Troy Aikman say that could have been one of the reasons why they let Doug go that Doug Was more looking towards Jalen hurts is the quarterback and then you heard Carson Wentz, the media reports that Carson Would Basically requested trade if, um or I shouldn't say it, but but that there was a strained relationship with dogs. So to me, it seems like Carson in a way, let it be known. He would rather play for another coach. I think that had a part in dismissing Doug Peterson. So to me, I think it's Carson Wentz. Let's see if we can Get him going again. If they can't, then we'll give Jalen hurts another job. You mentioned Lincoln. Riley is one of the candidates they're looking at on. Obviously, Jalen hurts, you know, played with them and play quite well at Oklahoma. What do you know about that? Because there's been overtures Jerry Jones and Lincoln Riley. Ah, few other teams out there. We've heard the charges..

NFL Live
Browns Make It Official
"We will start with the official news out of Cleveland Scavenge to ban skis hired by the browns. They announce officially on Monday. He's thirty seven. Spent fourteen seasons as an assistant in Minnesota but has never been a head coach at any level level his entire. NFL coaching career. As I mentioned has been with one organization the Minnesota Vikings Stansky took over play calling duties on offense late in the two thousand eighteen season. Minnesota ran the ball. Forty seven percent of the time with Danske asked the play caller. That's the second highest rate in that span trailing only the Baltimore Ravens was introduced at a press conference just a little while ago. I the foremost success starts with people and I know we'll talk a lot about culture but it is absolutely about the people and everybody knows the Harry Truman quote. It's amazing what you can accomplish when no one cares who gets. That's the credit and that's what I believe. We have in our building. We have great people. I know we're going to add to it will hire G. G. M. here in the next week can or two and we're going to add to this culture that that we're building here and we have the right people and again. I can't stress enough. How excited I am the be? Just a part of did you know to use a basketball terms to my dad can understand this. I want to be the point guard for this organization. I want to bring the ball up then I wanNA share the basketball and let so what else get an easy bucket though smiling over there. WE'RE NOT GONNA I'M NOT GONNA speak anything into existence right now I can. I promise you that we're GONNA work. I've already spoken to a few of our players already. And that's what I'm about I'm about working and I'm about putting a foundation together the other. We will be methodical about it. We will not skip. Step two two and three to get to four. We're GONNA start in the foundation and then we're going to reinforce foundation Shen said we can build upon it and when I'm talking about this I'm talking about schemes and technique will be diligent about working with our players so that they can develop into the the best versions of themselves and ultimately we're building a foundation for what we hope is a championship. Effort will have a culture of accountability. We'll have structures is in place the players will understand our rules. And what we're about and we're going to demanding and we're going to hold each player accountable. Because ultimately I know this about players they they May Not come out and ask you for that. But that's what they want. Well perhaps the tenth. TIME IS THE CHARM IN CLEVELAND. Stansky is the tenth full time head coach Wjr. The browns have hired since returning to the League in one thousand nine hundred ninety nine that is the most in the league over that span of the previous nine. None have posted a winning record. Heard and not a single one has lasted more than four seasons continuity and consistency has been a real issue in Cleveland. Victor certainly something they'd like to you see changes to fanciest step in the right direction. In your opinion will I believe he is and I think that consistency where it is important. And right because you put up that list of all the coaches and the coaches that they've they've pretty much funneled through throughout the years can you provide that level of stability that they've been seeking for almost a year in and year out. Can you provide that for their now. The thing I do like about Stansky a fan ski is that he has experience with creating plays for two star receivers and I think that's something that's going to have to translate over to the Cleveland. Browns obviously with Odell Beckham junior junior and Jarvis Landry and having that experience I'm sure enticed of that for an office inside bring him in and understanding that they got to get the best out of these players in the best out of all their play makers obviously nick included In the backfield now is he going to be a leader of men and he is he going to be able to handle. The Eagles and the different personalities is that are in that locker room. Desk the biggest question that still remains to be seen. It's defense gas interviewed with the browns. Before in fact it's believed that he was the first source of politics but Desta several seasons ago and and it didn't work out. Matt you spent time with him as part of that Minnesota Vikings Organization. What can you tell us right? He he was a young quarterback coach at the time. And so when I got there was actually a little bit older than he was which is an interesting dynamic but at the same time. He's been all around that building. You know he's an administrative assistant and when he started there then. He was a quarterback coach. He's I've been with the running backs he's been with the wide receivers so he's been in all the different elements of the offensive side of the ball. He's seen the ups and downs. He's seen how free agency can impact so he's got a great feel feel. He's a great leader. He's got a presence about himself in the other thing that I think that the Cleveland browns are probably drawn to is the simple fact that this is a very quarterback friendly offensive structure that he's presented presented in for a guy like Baker Mayfield that had had his struggles last year. And maybe some confidence issues. Maybe not though. Let's see the press conference the same time. It's a quarterback friendly. There's a lot of play action. There's a lot of movement of the pockets. A Lotta easy throws to be made screen. And then there's like you said that balance forty seven percent percent of the time the run the ball. There's great balance in that offensive structure in for a young quarterback and going into his third year after some struggles. I think this is a great fit for that organization Asian and going back to when they actually made this higher People in Cleveland were telling me that it was actually his run game because we see what he was able to do with Dowling Cook and how he was able to make become a good player to really a great one and he's a central part of that offense that we now see in Minnesota and that was a big part of it but in terms of now Cleveland going forward looking for GM the way it was explained to me is they really want these to head coach and gm to work as one. This is why they moved on. From John Dorsey Percy and Freddie Kitchens. They didn't feel like this was working together. So they're looking for someone who has the same vision and the analytics department obviously is of of crucial part of Cleveland. And what they're looking for a head coach and I think that's why Stefanski became that lead candidate because he's accepting of it. He wants to be part of that and You know I think I saw some reports out there about how Cleveland is demanding that their head coach presents the game plan to ownership and really the way it was explained to me. It's not so much that they want to see the game plan. They just want everyone to be in sync to go over to make sure they're all on the same page headed into the game. Well you can't blame him and and that is something that clearly was not the case. I think you make a great point. It's poor in that somebody come in and be able to work and mold Baker Mayfield but also be able to be the CEO and run this whole organization and have everybody else be accountable. I think Freddie Kitchens might have had one of those two things that went by the wayside outside the quarterback with the hiring in Cleveland. What it does mean? Is that every chair on the head. Coaching carousel is now accounted for. The browns were the fifth and final team to hire a new head coach in the off season. Three of the hires tires Stefanski as we just discussed Joe Judge with the giants and Matt Raw and Carolina our first time. NFL head coaches the other two quite the contrary contrary Mike McCarthy in Dallas Ron Rivera in Washington they will get a second chance or in some cases third or fourth various established. NFL head coaches of of all the five. Who Intrigues you? The most in their new spot intrigues me is Matt Rule. I WanNa see what really transpires here right. He seven years sixty million dollar contract. That's a big commitment big commitment. I mean we might need to think about going into coach. That's it has everything else that they're also saying that they're making a commitment to Cam Newton with the type of style and the offensive structured. That they've set up McCaffrey's there I mean they've got the pieces of the puzzle there now. It's interesting to see how that that offensive structure from college translates to the NFL. which is I mean? There's been guys like chip Kelly in the past right John Harbaugh's price guy. That's been the most successful but that was more of a pro style offense with the most the most recent Kingsbury in Arizona so cliff Kingsbury. Excuse me it's been a mixed bag. There's no question. Let me ask you this just circling back to something you said by hiring Matt rule it you believe this means a commitment to Cam Newton. Can you explain why why I just think that The Baylor and watching their offense of structure and the RPO that takes place that's run pass options and all the different things that they're well versed in and that the Baylor offense has been historically historically very successful with in terms of that offense of structure I just think that that Fits Cam Newton's game very well and so I believe that that's a statement saying look. We wanted to bring somebody in here that you're going to be comfortable in this type of offense of structure and go out and be able to put yourself in a position to have success extent to intrigue you for me. Is Joe Judge my beloved giants. I think well I just think because going into it. Once I saw the Vacancy Happen at the head coaching position I was all right. The giants are GonNa come in here and get either like a Ron Rivera type or even McCarthy and get a guy that will come in and commanding presence. Once he walks into the building and I think with the hiring of Joe Judge just left me like okay I. It felt like the same cycle almost felt like coach mcadoo a couple years ago when you give a guy a shot and bring him in if he can transcend The coaching position or the year. After that when you bring in Pat Shurmur and you try to bring take a chance on another guy. Felt like we're taking another chance on another guy but granted. I must say I loved after the press conference I loved his mannerisms I love. He literally embodied what the New York Giants Football Organization is all about when he stepped up there on that podium Liam so I say that with a grain of salt because I love the press conference and I think he's going to bring something different than the other two coaches did in the past. But I still left me scratching my head in terms of who was out there here in the type of guys that could've came in that building and commanded a present these guys by the way Matt Rule and Gioja Geno. It's not about winning the press coverage but they did rule who was must see TV. I was just watching. He's missing time with the giants. Who so I knew all about? He's got does I think you know obviously recruiting such a big part of being a head coach in college. You don't mean to recruit You know when you're in the NFL. Which is why? I'm an agreement with you. I think that is the most enticing match COPA or at least the situation of the coaches just because you just look at history and making that jump from college the NFL. It's not easy and there just hasn't been a high success rate there. I think obviously he spent a little time with a giant. So it's not like he's

Joe Burrow, LSU complete dream season to win the national title
"Morning after. LSU's national championship. Victory over Clemson We are still here in New Orleans. Bruce what what do you think will be your lasting image of the game you know. I don't I don't know I mean because it was a lot of thoughts going through my head just seon beyon- early on like when suicide next to me in the press box it felt like for the first couple of drives were not breath not much is going on but then Clemson at LSU backed up their territory. Lot Zero blitzing. They they definitely I think Brent Venables had the LSU offense the ants on its heels and then clemson started to go a little bit in Clemson's did some big plays and I don't know what point was seventeen seven or or something along the lines of that. I I think our colleague Ari Wasserman put out something that was like who covers Ohio state as if it's unclear We all know it's unclear whether this is just a blatant troll job or not. He's after watch. It was early in the game when he said watching these teens. I'm really to do tweets. It was another another one that was a reference to while. Lsu like they were fortunate that they got Oklahoma. 'cause they wouldn't have gotten through like your comes to blow out from Clemson. We saw this movie the last year against Alabama at remember thinking. This offense is GonNa get going where I didn't really expect. Stu was Trevor Lawrence his talented in his as gifted as he is looked more like a freshman last night for you on Monday night then he did last year against Alabama when he actually was a true freshman and Dan so to see that You know it was just like Whoa here at combs it was like an avalanche and it felt like this where I was going with that it felt like when we were sitting there watching it was like all right. Clemson feels like that dominated the first the first half but at one point it was like that controlled the first half and all of a sudden. Now they're down by one another so now they're like a deep hole and Lsu's getting the ball back. It was just think just felt like this thing was destined to happen. Yeah as I in the Lsu locker room and then went back and wrote Sept- sat down to write. It felt like just it was yet another game where Joe Jonesboro dominated and and was yet another. LSU blow out. And then as I kind of look back in my notes you realize Gosh I can hardly remember it now but this was the game was twenty eight to twenty five early in the third quarter after constant score a touchdown then clemson held LSU and it gets the ball back where the chance to take the lead. And I say that because by the time the game was over you would never remember it. was that close Because we saw yet another Sterling performance format from borough Jomar. Chase was unstoppable You know I wrote primarily about borough in my column from the game because I think what we just witnessed was without question region. The greatest season a college quarterback has ever had and to the point. Where you know you and I had podcast in the past where we talked about we debated Cam Cam? Newton's amazing season Vince young amazing season where they ranked in the in the Where they ranked his players right among all time? Great College players. Joe Borough rush like Cam. Newton is gonNA remember for just one season but Each through sixty touchdowns sixty and so oh just to put that in perspective that great Excuse me that great Vince. Young season he had thirty eight D.. Accounted for thirty eight rushing and passing touchdowns Ashdown's Tommie Frazier Ninety Five Nebraska. No that was a different era. He accounted for about two thousand yards of total offense. Borough when you put in his rushing six thousand yards of offense offense and they did it against a schedule that was so tough that when the final. AP poll came out Late Monday night. LSU had beaten five of the top eighteen which were pretty sure has never been done before it was And and and all and by the end you know. We're talking about things things here. That was see that if you had told me what an August that this would happen. I would say that's impossible. And yet he made it look so easy in these games that it certainly didn't impossible while you're watching it. It just seemed like Oh okay yet. Another game where the other defense. DB's can't stop these receivers and boroughs making all the right. Throws Rose is interesting. I spent a lot of the three days down here in New Orleans in the inside with Lsu and a lot of meetings in which just comes back to his hey we got number benign. It was like in there is talking about like any. NFL personnel person. Or anything like that but then there is Joe. Bureau was so much better than any other quarterback in the country because of how he operated this system are poised is how accurate. How great he is off script when the defense does something I don't know why feel compelled to touch on this but you know obviously you have this back and forth over the last. Probably Five Years About Cam Newton where he was the one thing I would. I'd say Cam Newton had nobody around him. You know the the only thing close to him as an NFL prospects even remotely was fairly on the other side of the ball. Joe Borough Roll. Had Mortiz went wild last night he actually had three drop passes well. Aj Terrell is considered to be a really good cornerback and and the poor guy gave up to fifty plus yard catches to chase in the first half. They eventually had to switch to a new to trying trying different DB On him. Well Oh I think what you were saying. I totally grew the greatest Offensive seem season. We've seen from a from a college quarterback but I would ask you this and haven't done enough research on it. You know their body work as a team matches up with anybody right and they. We beaten some some really good teams by double digits now to me and I I would argue that the Miami Ed Reed that team as the most talented team. The what I do think is like this team hasn't loaded with the level of. I think ridiculously future hall of fame kind of pro bowl guys. I mean we'll see I mean. Obviously the gap between Kendra. She was a really good quarterback and Joe Arrow is significant. But I would ask ask you. Is this the greatest offense you've ever seen in college yes. This was the greatest offense in college football. I was thinking trying to think of comparisons and to to to what you said. We've seen a lot of great offenses that like for instance. The chip Kelly Oregon offenses that took college football by storm in time. Seemed unstoppable. Darren Thomas was the quarterback right. It wasn't a guy who's going to be the number one pick in the draft maybe think about some of these Oklahoma offenses recently. Certainly certainly the ones with Baker Mayfield Cuyler Murray season those offenses were prolific. But in both cases they eventually ran into a team that was more talented than them and was able to at least neutralize it. Lsu I think an an order on his set it and I think it's true what we saw. This season was just the perfect storm and the perfect combination of the quarterback. The offense that job Brady brought in the play calling reis even Zinger and just this insane set of receivers and also Clyde. You know who you're right about. Oh my gosh. That guy is unbelievable. A tackle them last night. Just every everything that needed to lineup lined up. I think it was the thing that you know not to go too. Big on Clyde there because the numbers aren't like Numbers but I think the element of having thing like it is the pick your poison where somebody's going to go all right. We gotTA worry about twenty two more and then also the one who won the won the Belichick off award you know. He was considered the greatest receiver. ALGEBRA's true sophomore. I think it was like and then that gets to touchdown. That was the kind of flurry that I think that they're just capable capable of and I I don't want him to bring up Ohio state. I was like it did not feel to me as impressive. This clemson was last year. is the president. We thought they were Dabo. Sweeney talking about the lack of respect. If all season to me there was no doubt who is the better team after watching that it last

Scott Frost debuts at Nebraska against Colorado
"But what do you expect from frost in Nebraska today that really the first game? We all know, we've seen Scott frost. It is different stops. He knows how to coach offense. He's he's gonna make point. He's going to get points. And I think you've seen the running of the quarterbacks got to be part of that mix. I'm very true freshman quarterback. Adrian, Martinez cat is very good. And I think he's got a bright future Kirk. But the one thing I'm looking at with them is how much can you run them because Gabby as soon as he found out that the freshman Martinez was gonna start he transfers. And so are you going to run your quarterback a lot to win ballgames that you need to win? 'cause they're going to need to do that. How much is that balance? How delicate is that's gonna be a challenge for Scott frost? His is is what it is going to have to do it. Big part of what he wants to do. I can't wait to watch the true freshman. I I really think the story could be on the other side of the ball. They're going to win this game. We saw just saw some highlights and the throwbacks in the nineties. It was the defense in those years. They're going to be challenged at home. Today. Steven Montas last week he missed three passes twenty to twenty five and Colorado state. I don't care if it's against the air twenty two or twenty five got some good athletes coming in from the pack twelve they were down last last year. I think they're back. This is this is an opportunity for C you to send a message to everybody that they can play this year in the Pac twelve was impressive completed. His first will get the office. We'll get back to Scott frost impresses me about Scott, the coaches who influenced his life his coaching career. I mean, he was at Stanford Bill wash. It was obviously Nebraska Tom Osborne in the NFL, Bill Belichick. Bill Parcells Mike Tomlin. They don't forget at Oregon chip Kelly. He brings that toughness. But he also brings their creativity on office. You talk about Martinez. He actually compared Martinez. Marcus mariota who was on a playoff team at Oregon. That's a huge compliment to compare him to Mario the Heisman. Scott frost is going to win a boat load of games at Nebraska. But one of them's not going to

Afternoons with Marcellus & Kelvin
Back in the college game, Chip Kelly focused on winning at UCLA
"Chip Kelly was gone to the different chip Kelly. When he left college. Football is at the top of his game, maybe not a national championship, but he built in Oregon program that was. At best good into a program that was excellent. And the second he likes citing top and very innovative. And then once he left and then Marcus mariota stay for another year for Markelle Fultz another couple years, whatever it was that whole organ thing, just kind of fizzled and they're, they're good. Again. They're not great. They're not, but good unions, the great Younis great facilities on he's a UCLA now piece in ESPN dot com. Talking about him and his approach, and it'll be interesting to see how it goes because I don't think anybody really cares how peculiar he is long as their winning games, but you can only be peculiar if you are winning and he doesn't really go for anything that isn't the film isn't really the players isn't really the game and college football. You have to have a little glad-handing go along with this unless you're just even Nick Sabin glad-handing little bit. I mean, that's one of the issues that lane kiffin had for years is he. I wasn't great around the people that he needed to be great. You know the the raw raw stuff lie the glad-handing, the the important handshakes that you need to make. That's not one lane kiffin does. May I always find it ironic that people would talk about how great he was as a recruiter, which means you're great in a room. I'm willing to believe it, but that also means you're only good in a room with very specific people like once their age extends beyond nineteen, right? You apparently have no social skills and chip Kelly is one of these guys that just seems like he has. He's he's almost like a football Rainman. Yeah, you know what I mean? Like he, he just he's one of these guys. That's a football savant. And in his lane, he's a genius. But if he's six inches outside of either side of the lane, he's just painfully uncomfortable. Yeah, I, I've told the story before when I was living in Houston and working there, they have the Lombardi awards where they bring in people, and there's a coach of your word, and there was a panel of all these guys and they. I mean, Mike Sherman was head coach. Texas a. and m. at the time, Bobby Bowden was there. There was one or two other guys in chip Kelly was there as well. Kevin, someone was there who's at Houston at the time. And all these guys get up and and do a ten minute speech on their program, and they're all great. They're captivating. They'll be room is laughing. Everybody's listening. They're good with their timing on the jokes. They're good with telling the stories, boom, boom, phone, like a comedian. That's got a really tight little said ten minutes in. They're often everybody's throat. And then chip Kelly comes up and it's like things everybody coming out and went and sat back down. Again. It was like, we will. What they lights come on this big banquet room and people start moving towards the coaches. Thanks, autographs, and all this kind of stuff. And Kelly practically ran for the exit and it's like, wow, he must be on this whole time. I thinking you don't good of a football coach. You have to be to to have that be your deal and still people are lining up to give you millions of dollars goat your

Patriots Release WR Jordan Matthews After Significant Hamstring Injury, sign 1-year deal with Erick Decker
"What does he go play outside in a different sport now? Oh, yeah. Yeah. I mean six. Nine, whatever you gonna play when he gets blasted over the middle, is he gonna come back to the bra, took you seem stitching. His nose play with a mass drop sixty one on on on on the Hornets as broken. No, but he. Loved asked, and he'd be going around with a different mentality. That's a whole different ball football and basketball player. The why differently? Enough, realize it always comes back to this guy at some point. Thank you for being here. It's always good to get. Tom Brady is wide receiver group seems to constantly change and the patriots Jordan Mathews yesterday after he signed a one year deal this off season, but he reportedly suffered a significant hamstring injury on Sunday, the patriots maybe adding former titans wide receiver, Eric decker who worked out for the team this week. And yes, remember they will be without Jillian men for the first four games of the season. Shannon, what does this tell you. Kills me that a coach Bela checks. You gonna pull some weight or you guys to go. He was, I guess he was practicing whale playing well, and then he got Nick hamstring and coach Bela check says, you know what? You're not going to be doing this any good rehabbing on our dime. So we'll let you go ahead and go bring air Dicker and it looks like they're gonna sign deck, Jordan Mathews skip. I mean he really hasn't played well since he's left chip Kelly. I mean close to nine hundred yards. I two years, but he's always had this injury almost half thousand. Yeah, he's always had this injury bug that just popped up and I'm sure that factor the coach Bela checks decision of, yeah, you know, I was kinda hoping you're over this bug. Now, the last couple years deck has also suffered the injury bug, but I do believe that Eric decker is an upgrade over Jordan Mathews. He had his best years playing who skip pate, Manny. So you have a guy in Tom Brady that knows what he's doing with the football knows where to go with the ball is in complete command of this offense. And so I expect him to is big debt comes in this offense. I can see him catching. Forty fifty balls especially with Ellerman being the first the first four gay. Hell gronk it's still there not. He's still look at Tom Brady, Tom Brady can win without grunk, but you look at his numbers when gronk on the field. And you look at his numbers when gronk and on the field, this ubstantially different and plus decades. The mole grant Etima you know, they got Gatica got all all the Gallic, a guy. He likes to kind of look, Chris HOGAN. Now. L. look like. Thing shattered shock. I've been trying to tell you for two years Bill. Bella check can get away with near murder when it comes to the white outs this because it just doesn't matter. He has the greatest quarterback in the history of pro football who's also to use your term the greatest makeup artist ever because he can just cover up all the blemishes. It just doesn't matter. Just giving that guy, Joe Smith investors. Investors as the greatest ever. You know what Joe said that under. So. Look what just happened. Jordan Mathews was sort of the off season Saini by the New England Patriots because June Matty's dot, some ability. He played at my school Vanderbilt, and he is still the SEC all time career leader in catches and yards caught. That's pretty great, Nancy. See, it's a pretty good. It's right. And he's still the all time. Career leader is Jordan. Mathews those three years in Philadelphia were they were great, but they were pretty good, right. And guess who fell in love with Jordan Mathews who loved him like a brother was walk into your got Carson Wentz. He loved him some Jordan Mathews and they traded Jordan Mathews straight up for Ronald Darby who's a really good player so that that shows you that buffalo really valued Jordan Mathews that he He was. was. That's that's pretty. That's eighty. Trae they needed receiver they had let wilder would grow in said, we walk and go market Goodwin was gong. Yeah, so they need. They need Darby's a first round talent. Yeah, he's a, he's a playmaking top to your cornerback and so they value Jordan. He's in buffalo, right? And Carson Wentz was devastated and told the Philadelphia media..
