Chip Ganassi Sells Entire NASCAR Team to Trackhouse Racing

"Chip Ganassi sold his NASCAR team to Justin Marks. He's the owner of track House raising. And declared that he will pull out of the nation's top stock car series at the end of this season. Now one of the things that happens when you buy a NASCAR team that's established like Chip Ganassi. Is that you buy a charter and because the Nazi has two cars that means to charters. Now the terms of the deal were not released. But what I want to know is How much As of two weeks ago are two charters in NASCAR. And if anybody doesn't know what where the charter is, it means basically that you have an agreement that you're going to show up at the race with those two cars

"Now who knows what it could have been if JD wasn't. They're trying to do the business side of things after he retired from racing. I mean that a very. Unheralded guy when when you look at the the grand scheme of things and only now do we have to have the chance to appreciate him. So it it's gonna be interesting to see him without the track. It'll be interesting to see how how the team honours in the season. I'm sure they'll have to they're going to have something on all their cars for the year. And you know, I didn't even really think about it too much until this story came out. And I was like, you know, like Joe Gibbs racing is there last ones to really well. They're not the last ones. But the I mean, too when you think about what they started with him what they were able to do. I mean, the the major major teams in the sport Childress been around. Forever rash? Been around forever. You'll Hendrick been around forever. Chip Ganassi, maybe not NASCAR, but had been around forever and jobs came from another sport from an entirely, different sport. And he and J B Were able to build up this organization to where it. Is one of the best in in NASCAR? And the only other. I mean obviously furniture row, but that that's coming on reading. It was only one car operation. The only other one that kinda like that is Stuart off because gene Haas came in from eight kind of outside of the sport. I mean, he was still selling CNC equipment, and he was still in the manufacturing business. He was still in the mechanical business, but outside of gene Haas coming in and being able to make something Big Joe Gibbs was really the last person the the only person other gene Haas to come in from totally outside the sport and be able to build something that big and it's because he had the sports half like JD running the show. Yeah. I mean once you have the right people to run the business side. It's all you need now. All right. So let's move on and talk about Jimmy Johnson. They unveiled the paint scheme for the ally of financial car. And I didn't know they were going to do this. I was actually a little impressed by the whole thing. I mean. Yeah, it was all because ally paid. The money. Right. But they were on good Morning America. Like they unveiled the paint scheme on national TV and on non or non partner of NASCAR. That's true. Yes. Yes. Exactly. It was it wasn't on NBC. And it wasn't on FOX. What do they good Morning America's I think, they're ABC? Yeah. They're ABC. Yeah. But you know, it's weird because a couple couple of weeks back the other other show I do on is on motorcycle racing and a couple of weeks back one of the big stars. You know, this this big star has a team of his own at one of the lower levels. And they unveiled the paint scheme for the slower level team on the Italian version of the voice, or you know, whatever's got tallow one of those popular reality shows X-factor something like that. I was like man that's pretty big. I mean, that's a national TV show. That's how much those people, you know, love motorcycle racing. I mean, obviously, the sponsor was skysports..

"And then, you know, like like, you know, kinda like what what Bubba Wallace had or we'll we'll like what Alex Bowman had where you get a couple of race released to the car. But, but I'd almost think in Chastain case since since we saw him do so well in a good xfinity car that it will be probably be a good test for him to run a limited Cup schedule. I might be I might lean toward that. If I were Chip Ganassi. Yeah. Just so by the way, f- way, I Hendrik motorsports. Does supply the Motors we're gonna see. So it's almost like a satellite team. And with with the solar out credit one had sixteen races last year that's less than half the season while to figure McDonald's and first data will will take some spots to and you also have to wonder with Kurt Busch in his contract. What does that do for sponsorship as well? We know monster energy is going to be. There is McDonald's going to be. There is going to be back gear wrench like the the other ones you go to that on the forty to put that out or maybe put that in some just anchors. You do a two for one deal. Yeah. I think I think that's what we're going to see we're going to see primarily monster on the on the Bush car, and we're going to see a lot of the sponsors that were Jimmy Mack. Just move over. Just hang out, you know, over. Why not I I it just curb? Oh shows a strike me. As your McDonald's spokesperson is all I'm saying. Yeah. He's definitely not loving it. So much. Oh, I don't know. Obviously those guys get more traction. I think out of collars. But who knows maybe maybe that's maybe they have a combination of that. Maybe some of those guys then say, okay, we'll chip in a little bit for for a couple of rows chess team races here too. Not what you if you see the potential in this kid. So it'd be interesting to see what they do with that. Because they can go one of three ways either put him in the next car put them in a Cup car for limited races. Or just I haven't said at home and watch. And then keep your fingers crossed for something to come up. I mean that worked for Alex Bowman. But really, it's the way you should operate your, you know, your your development system. Yeah. Not the best the best way to go about things. I don't I don't know much about NASCAR development. But that doesn't seem like, no, right. Don't call us. We'll call you. Exactly. Yeah. You shouldn't be Kurt Busch. She's. Bush had his old ride. Yeah. So the worst kept secret in the garage. Daniel swears announced as officially as the driver of the number forty one car for Stewart Haas racing this week and then right out on track. Man. In fact, I listened to a little bit of the press conference not a lot of it. But it listen to some of it. And apparently the deal had been done. I mean, they were just waiting for all the pieces basically with it was pretty much what we were talking about a couple of weeks ago on the show. They're waiting for the whole heiress bit of it to get figured out. And I mean Suarez's has already been to the shop multiple times he said he had to keep hiding so people wouldn't see him. And so they were over there planning getting the car ready, and that's why they were able to head right out on track at the tire test at auto club this week with him in the forty one car. So we get used to the Mustang ways. You have to hide he was a free agent. Yeah. Well, you know because of the the the one rumors again or anything like that we all knew where he was going. They knew the road. College was hanging out with some donuts and some racist phrases, right? He does go into they they knew that ruin the whole subway thing. They didn't want it to ruin this deal to right, which I don't understand it subway. Breakfast is terrible. I know right like, but I mean, it was really just. Just cancelled their sponsorship of this program by the hand. And then it's the worst like honestly, Jimmy Johns all the way shout out Jimmy Jones. Well, Jimmy Johnson does list. Oh, Jimmy Johns..

"You need rash to be out there and be racing because they're they're supposed to be the better of the extent of the teams. So it I I'm a little bit surprised that NASCAR hasn't tried to do anything to help on the flip side of this. How? However, I think this helps xfinity to a little bit of an extent. Hello. Because now you're going to have to really teams are going to have to invest more in satellite teams, almost like an affiliation. So you're going to have to have an affiliate program in terms like a AA AAA kind of situation where now they're gonna have to Chip Ganassi is going to have to find a team to put Chastain in. And you want chesting to do. Well, you want him to do well for for moving up into the Cup series. So you're going to give them a lot more. Mechanical expertise, and you're gonna get them or you know, just set like like with. Gibbs does did with furniture row. Yeah. Like, you're going to give them a lot more parts and stuff like that. So I think it could help some of the lower tier teams. Plus, it also it helps them in that they're not going up against such a higher tier rand. And I think that helps competitiveness just slightly little bit. Even though you still have Gibbs running guys and Penske's running guys. And and there's other guys other teams out there still doing it. I think it helps a little bit competitive wise that these smaller teams have a little bit more of a shot to have a better performance and could land some more sponsorship because of it they're not fighting to and from these with these heavy hitters. That's actually a very interesting point. And it goes back to what you were talking about last week your idea last week of hate, let's. Instead of just cutting down the field and cutting on the race cutting on schedule. Let's make these guys perform to be able to move up move down in the in between series. And because at some point there. If NASCAR were to be smart enough, bold enough to institute a plan like that you'll run into an issue if you had Ralston both if you had again, ask them, both if you have Penske in both so maybe Hinden ham with that. Nascar says all right Cup Cup teams. You want to be a Cup team? You're only a Cup team. You can't have a car in the xfinity series. You can't have a car in the truck series. We want separate owners everywhere. And it's all two problems at once. Now, you don't have like a, you know, no, sixth and seventh Penske team, you know, moving up because over the past couple of years they've all been moving up and at the same time. I actually think that what you said is is accurate that if you don't have that feeder system if you don't have. Have you know, Ganassi and xfinity and Ganassi in Cup. Then you have to have somebody. And so you you outlaw the same team owning Cup and truck teams, but you actively encouraged technical alliances, and it makes things it makes the the field deeper. It makes it deeper makes the talent pool deeper, and it really shows off with these guys can do. And again, I think you can also see that with a salary cap to when you get if you get a salary cap in place. Odds are something like that's going to happen as well where you will see team starting getting closer in performance because all the parts and engineering and things like that will be closer together in price range. Yeah. Looping back around the Chastain..

"So they're done to what the hell kind kinda interesting because pregnant pool probably like, oh, boy, did I dodged a bullet here. I know right. I mean, this is saying this is two weeks and back to back weeks. We're not talking about you know, like our nine seven extra racing closing down. We're talking about freedom rash last week and Ganassi this week seriously, and it kind of it kind of leads credence to the fact that the whole up and down situation, the relegation and promotion thing we talked about last week because now you're going to have to have her with all these teams slotting money. Elsewhere, you're going to have to heavily rely on these smaller teams beings finicky series and NASCAR is not going to look at that. Until it's far too late now. So I mean, and this is a this is a big deal because. Ross Chastain was slated to be here. He was pretty much the heir-apparent took to to Kurt Busch in that number one car. He was a guy who ran twelve first and second in his three runs in that forty two car last season. And I'm sure he could have made a huge run in a full season car this year. And now it happens and now his futures in limbo. I mean, which kind of it kind of makes it a domino effect is he going to be around for Chip Ganassi next year. How do you find a way to put him in a in a capable ride, you know, in all honesty, and I was thinking about this, obviously, they're not pursuing even they're not pursuing a new sponsor because they're pursuing a new sponsor, then they wouldn't have said we're done which itself is interesting to me because there is time to find a sponsor and throw something together. I think all essentially, you all you have to do is just slap the name on there and get the money. Yeah. No. I think so. And the other thing that stood out to me is that you know, obviously rash racing. They made it as. A business decision. Okay. So maybe if you're NASCAR like, okay? Well, they're trying to consolidate. They said they want to focus on the Cup series. That's fun in this case. It is clearly due to an absence of a sponsor and at what point if you're NASCAR don't she? Why don't you start stepping in here and trying to make some sort of deal trying to facilitate some sort of deal to keep one of your big name xfinity teams on the frigging xfinity track. Yeah. And I mean with name value like that. So why wouldn't you? I mean, do if this had been like a ride for like, Casey cane or something I bet you ask our tries something. Yeah. Kyle Busch mortar sports. Yeah. To do something. I'm sure when Brad Kozlowski was trying to get out of the truck series. They were trying to like, listen, we gotta keep you in here. Somehow some way. I don't know. What's what's the deal? Like, it's almost like they're abandoning fifty. It's crazy. I mean, they're just allowing teams walk away that have serious names and legitimacy in the sport or in the series. And and they're just let them go there doing anything about it. It's kind of crazy, you know? It's crazy. But are you are you surprised? No, no, no, no, not actually. No. I am a little bit. I'm a little bit because of the whole gym France thing because if this was Brian for heads, of course, not I wouldn't be surprised at all because he wouldn't even need to whacked out of his mind, even know what's going on. But with Jim France, I thought that this was okay, we're going to get serious about this. We know we need to turn things around. We knowing need to have a good product on the track and somebody might say, well, it's just one team. Just one team is just one car yet is willing team in one car, but it was a well-financed team and a competitive team. They try steal like you just said those results last year. And that was in the absence of all the Cup drivers that did well in that car. And so if you want to better product on the track, you need Guinness you to be out there and be racing..
