Charlie Welcomes Pastor Jack Hibbs of Calvary Chapel Chino Hills

"Sunday, there is one pastor I make sure to watch. I make sure to make time for pastor Jack hibbs. He's become a great friend and a mentor and adviser of mine and he is a fighter. He understands the word of God better than almost anybody I have ever had the chance to meet and to spend time with. And I'm really touched. I'm honored to be speaking at what's called the futures conference this weekend, which I think is totally sold out, but I think there's still a digital option, but Jack could tell us all about that. With us right now, as pastor Jack hibbs from calvary chapel Chino Hills, Jack, welcome to the program. Charlie, it's great to have you, my friend, it's great to be on. I tell you, it's great to be having you at our conference. As you well said, it is sold out. In fact, it's sold out in a half a day, Friday and Saturday, and I'm just blessed that you're going to be kicking it off on Friday night. It's gonna be great. And so is there a digital option for people where they could have digital tickets they could buy or is going to be rebroadcast that at all? It's going to be streaming now that it's sold out and packed out. It's going to be streaming live. So people can simply go to either Jacobs dot com or they can type in search Google or futures conference. There'll be a link there. I'm not privy right now. I have forgotten what that link is exactly. But it's going to be available for anybody everywhere. So

Tampa Bay Rays' Players Refuse to Wear Pride Patch: Charlie Weighs In

"Zach from calvary chapel, Chino Hills, love cavalry chapel, love Jack kibs. What is your opinion on several Tampa Bay baseball players who refuse to wear the rainbow pride patches on their jerseys during the pride night, their pride night instead sent out of the game. I fully support it. I do. I think that players pushing back against quote unquote pride night is critical. And we must understand that what you might think of as pride night has changed in its meaning. It's no longer about gay and lesbian, acceptance, no, no, no, it's about something much deeper than that, and also something that is much more controversial than that. It can mean now bringing children to drag queen, bars. It can mean chemical castration of children. That this idea of Pride Month has broadened from just like, okay, I suppose tolerance of gay and lesbian people. And the spectrum that moves from tolerance to acceptance, to celebration, to participation. I must give credit to Matt Walsh for that phenomenally brilliant kind of steps is now that you must participate, you must wear the pride patch. And it kind of goes back, okay, Connor, get the Kramer from Seinfeld. You don't want to put the button on from the aids walk. It's one of this great great scenes in television history. Where Kramer, who's kind of an aloof character in Seinfeld, decides to do the aids walk, but he doesn't want to put the button on or the ribbon. He just doesn't want to wear the ribbon, and it kind of is the same sort of thing where he ends up getting kind of attacked by the mob, albeit kind of very similar kind of the Pride Month aids walk mob where they say you don't support gay people because you don't want to wear the ribbon and it's kind of this joke in the show that unfolds into obvious kind of tumultuous hilarity where Kramer is like, no, no, no, I'm with you. I just don't want to wear the ribbon. I just don't want to wear the ribbon. And they say, what do you mean what do I put the ribbon on? And it's like this back and forth and you must participate. You must be part of this. It's not enough that you tolerate us. It's not enough that you accept us. It's not enough that you celebrate us, no, you must

"No matter how you slice it, Michael, that's impressive. I only ran for 8 weeks, one of my big rivals, Republican rival, a two term mayor of San Diego, the second largest city in California, ran for a whole year. He only got 8% of the vote. I raised $20 million in 8 weeks. That is more than my Republican rivals combined, except for one who could sell fun, but I got out spent ten to one by Gavin Newsom. Right. Larry, I'm not taking anything. Look, I respect you. You are the man in the arena. You know, a lot of us sit around and we talk about it. You answer the bell and I respect you for that. And I didn't. I just want to say this on my own radio program. I really didn't intend it as a slight. I regret the way I introduced you on CNN. It was not on my part seeking to pin you that way. I should have done it. No, I should have done it differently. But I hear the hard question that I want to ask you. Michael, I know you well enough to know you weren't trying to make my point is you're an independent guy. You're a fair minded guy. Imagine how the rest of the media treated me. They would routinely say this thing on purpose. I was asked over and over again, do I think the 2020 election was stolen? Was Stephen Miller have a position in my cabinet? What do I think about abortion? None of those issues had anything to do with why Californians were upset with Gavin Newsom. They were upset about the crime about the homelessness about the way he shut down the state about the fact that people are leaving, poor firing management. We're running out of water for crying out loud farmers right now are being water rationed. And we have a poor energy grid because of the force reliance on so called renewables like wind and solar. This is why people were upset with Gavin Newsom, but the left characterizing this in ways subtle and not so subtle as a Republican takeover. It was extremely unfair to me. So as you heard, he did apologize, and so I apologize for saying he didn't apologize he did. Now, school board, this is in Chino Hills, California. Listen to this. At a packed house tonight at the Chino valley school district, where students and parents making their cases against vaccine mandates. Jessica,.

We Need Manly Churches Preaching Biblical Masculinity

"It's amazing to me that you know. We are coming to a place where it is only like great churches. That are pushing this message out there. The whole culture has become feminized and confused. I mean it's obvious that people are just i mean. Most people understand that the culture is nuts. Like you need to be encouraged folks. I forgive you think the culture is nuts. You know what you are right. And i'm here to affirm you they've all gone nuts the only place where you seem to be able to find sanity Is in certain churches. I was I mentioned you tim. I was up in ken graves. Church in bangor maine. I was at jack. Hibs church and chino hills california. They're few that are particularly manly. And i thought men just gravitate toward that cause in their ideas churches. Kind of like it's a. It's a woman's thing or or something like that. I really think that this message that you have in your book take it back. It just comes out of the bible and it's it's kind of like solving for excellent algebra quesion right. I mean everything else goes away. We're in a culture now where you really can't find this anymore. We don't have a lot of healthy masculinity in the culture in our movies and tv either at it is toxic masculinity portrayed or is wimpy non masculinity but this healthy idea of biblical masculinity which father's bless their children and husbands bless their wives and live self-sacrificial early and use their strength to protect those. I mean so beautiful. i think more and more. We're seeing that in churches and i. I predict that. We're gonna see revival on this issue when a culture becomes as sick as ours is on this issue. Men are looking for truth. They know in their gut. Right and wrong on this. And i'm just i'm excited that you're talking about it. You're not the only one but this is The book is take it back. dr tim. Clinton forward by darrell

The Founding and Crimes of The Children Of Thunder Cult

"On memorial day. Nineteen ninety nine. The helzer brothers attended a murder mystery. Dinner held at their local mormon temple that evening reportedly dressed in all black and thus stood out from the rest of suburban attendees. Most of whom were start shirts and press chino's. It was at that event that justin met don goodman a single mother mother in her mid twenties. Who had recently moved into town and was working a grocery store desperate to find a direction in her life. She decided to join the mormon church although she was said to be an outcast. Much like the helzer brothers will. Don began dating just shortly after the murder mystery dinner. She was reportedly fascinated by his cares. Medical brother taylor managed to convince her to join a self awareness. Seminar which consisted of spending a few days inside a windowless room while a facilitator aggressively badgered them to confront their inner demons which sounds like most university classes. I attended so not that crazy but no absolutely ridiculous After completing two of the seminars three levels don began receiving spiritual guidance from taylor. He had become completely unhinged by this point telling her that sometime in january two thousand it was his destiny to take over the mormon church by all means necessary. He also began calling himself. Don and his brother the children of thunder claiming that it was their mission to create a state of peace and joy for everyone.

And he's walking down and it's there's so many things going on in that scene it's not just a straight shot. It's almost like you almost sent despair. It's really beautifully done without saying a word. I've loved things like that. It's really beautifully dying apart. Yeah thanks i. Particularly while. I think because we saw in serbia in belgrade that that's something that's something very sifi about belgrade. We we scouted. that's eastern europe is. It's hi fi place. It's very good place. "There on the sunshine. Some some some fitzpatrick wanders into their line of sight and then they go play golf. Yeah i like it i promise. And can they can recruit nicole tune. That's absolutely. I see the four of them being like the the league of lesser evil. And they just go around some some rich young man. Does something impolite nicole punches him and the mexican dude had often jason's goes and plays golf. So i think that there some promise there. Yeah i mean this was damaged people. we got. Let's bring us some new damage to people so near ones but get rid of them quickly. Yes let's let's let the people who are at home in their own evil. Just kinda kinda you know. Would that logan could have joined them in just kicked people you know just beat people up from time to time. Just keep himself in the game but that and right errantly the possibly be not to be anyway. Yeah i took some pleasure in those new characters and jk. Simmons looks like he. What is his character. Clyde as you call them. Clyde gone looks like he could get up to some mischief in town. He looks like he's yeah around. See where you just scope things out. Seeing smith deciding on his next move i could make some suggestions for for the two mexican dudes and they're michetti. Apparently and and clyde we want make a list of characters we think could be pruned. Even from these eight episodes. I think that we can start Number one with Tani's horrible family. What the heck and whoever wrote that script and hired them and cast them because that's awful. Yeah the hecker doing but they could go. They could go. I want to see their heads on the motel counter and all the fitzpatrick fitzpatrick's yes has leg really. We had to go back there. Yes really come on. Come on. I just veronica said oh no when she looked at the place and On knobbly madrick's oh yes. Yes dispatch j. k. Simmons could probably go over and take care of them. I can't quite looks like he. He would know how to handle himself a fitzpatrick or two. And you know pat molds character on a very very in line. He was annoying enough before he started being to see about keith. Though he's not necessarily wrong but still you know. Watch out for yourself. Their pizza man. I may send nicola roussy after you. Yeah i was. I was rather surprised that two episodes to severed heads black. Are we going to get six more. Because i hope this the second severed head was just some some poor nerdy kid. Who whose name they gave just because they were afraid. Yeah that's that's a little rough but yeah they didn't. I mean they didn't even try just anytime anybody suggests somebody did something. They're going to go cut their heads off alec. Okay that guy. Yes sure. I think i think we could also possibly dispatch the congress person's mother. She's pretty good. Yeah let the bad. "Because it's nice to talk about something other than parenting for a change so week. We continued with the fourth season of veronica. Mars the twenty nineteen edition and caught up with the rest of the world by watching the friends reunion. Show on hbo. Max it so this thing was quite a ride. I mean i really felt like i had whiplash by the end of it. Not just from like seeing the people the the actors in present and then in the past and then the president passing under the president of the and and it just has so many like segments and is and stuff happening and it was pong being all over the place that it just kind of worry out like yes. There were parts of it. That were very funny and that i i really enjoyed. But you know they went from like having people around the world talking about how meaningful the show was to them and how it like save them from terrible depression and grief and then the next thing. They're having like the actors who played. Joey's hand twin the curtain. And i just was like i cannot keep up very odd piece of work. It really was. And and like if you're gonna have tom selleck having her more than thirty seconds. You something completely different. Yeah it was. Bizarre has a big grab bag. Oh stuff that they shook and spilled out on the table. And you know disliked bob and back and forth between different segments. They're just all arriving on the set. And then they're in the setting. They're playing a game and then there on a couch by a fountain and then they're you know reading script things around the table and and they just really didn't want to sit and be interviewed. Did they find as many bits of business to do as possible. God bless them. You know one thing. I wanna make sure to say about this show which. I don't think i've heard anybody else say who reviewed it is. Marta kauffman looks fabulous. I guess she was sitting in a chair in this. What looked to be like a flowing. WW2 Era Bomber [B-25] Crashes Near Stockton Airport

"World War Two era bomber a B twenty five crashes near Stockton Airport. And this is from ABC ten dot. COM Stockton. California World War. Two era bomber crashed about five miles away from Stockton Metroplitan. Airport on Saturday night San Joaquin County sheriff's officials said Sheriff's officials said the pilot tried to land and a field before striking a ditch the plane received significant damage in the crash officials said, three people were on board the plane to receive non life threatening injuries while another person was able to walk away. Fine the fine the two injured occupants were transported to the local hospital. NTSB and F. A. A. Officials will take over the investigation into why the plane crashed. And we have some audio and let me set this up a little bit from live ATC dot net when they're traveling on these these old warbirds warbirds. They usually have like a chase airplane somewhere following them for support and such, and in this case, it's a bonanza. The the the be twenty five started in Chino and flew up to northern California stopped at the nut tree vacaville airport for a bit, and then took off again and was heading over to stockton to have some repairs done to the airplane. There's A. Depiction of the of the flight, the latter part of the flight to nut tree in Vacaville, and then over the Stockton, and then after the repair work is going to be accomplished remains work whatever it was. I don't know if you call it minor or not. It depends on. Report you're looking at here. Bet. The third occupant was not injured. I'm hoping that it looks like. By the way if you have a link to this in the show notes. One Brown the Block Leo. Channel did. A really nice video of this and he has got a lot of interesting information about the airplane and the fact that had just returned. Remember we talked about earlier show the World War, two era bombers or aircraft that were on the Essex L. HD navy ship that was heading over to Hawaii. To Commemorate the seventy fifth anniversary of the end of World War Two and Hawaii It had just that was one of the airplanes they. Put It on a crane and put it on the the deck of the L. HD and it sailed over to Hawaii. They did the comeback. So basically, this is all glories getting ready to return all the way to its home on the East Coast and. let's say the. So he had some other interesting photos of where the be twenty five ended up in a ploughed field, and if it hadn't been for that irrigation ditch it would have been a much better. Outcome and does you know it still doesn't look like there's a Well I. Guess. If you're looking at the engines that were torn off against the damage is quite extensive on the engines but I'm hoping what I'm trying to say is I hope that they'll be able to. Scrap the thing completely, it'll be able to fix it but I don't know. It's great. History. Escape. Doesn't I. Mean. There are people out there who are willing to build a new aircraft will build well, two aircraft. A very small amount some the this is a complete more or less So I'm sure that somebody in who who has got the money and there are plenty of people out there who loves this sort of thing Bail to fund it, but it's just a it's just a tragic. California's San Quentin Prison Was Free of the Virus. One Decision Fueled an Outbreak.

California's San Quentin Prison Was Free of the Virus. One Decision Fueled an Outbreak.

"California's one of the large states that has having a large surge in corona virus, cases and hospitalizations right now Arizona of courses in terrible shape right now. Texas is in terrible shape Florida, starting to get really terrible really fast. All three of those states are now having hospitals overrun while their case numbers hospitalization numbers just keep climbing every day scary. but California's having a real problem too, and here's something really specific. That's going on in. California, that was not just like a bad situation that arose from the Meyer of this epidemic in California part of their big problem, right now was a single screw up a bad mistake that has now set off. What is really a disaster? Here's what happened. By mid April one of the largest state prisons in California had run of outbreak. It started as just a handful of cases at the California State Prison in Chino. But it soon became dozens of cases, prisoners and staff alike. At the time there were more than forty two hundred men imprisoned at Chino that's nearly twenty percent more than the capacity. That prison was built to handle and of course. You know by their very nature. Correctional facilities and specifically overcrowded correctional facilities like Chino was just a hot bread for any hotbed for any sort of. Contagious, illness and sort of outbreak. So when they knew that in mid. April it was no wonder that by the following month by May. Corona virus had just run through every dorm, used to house prisoners at Chino. By the end of May there were six hundred and thirty five confirmed cases at Chino. There were nine men dead. Given the crisis, they had on their hands. The State Department of Corrections along with the State Attorney Journal decided that they would transfer all bunch of prisoners out of that prison out of Chino, and they would send them to other prisons in the state. One of those prisons was the infamous prison just north of San Francisco called Quenton now. At the time San Quentin had actually been doing very well and beating back the epidemic so well in fact at the time. San Quentin had no infections saint. Quentin had no corona virus infections in March. In April and it may. But then came this influx of prisoners from China, which had a terrible problem there more than one hundred twenty prisoners were transferred from Chino to that facility at San Quentin and they'd all been tested at some point before transfer. But. It wasn't like they were particularly sticklers timing it right off the bat. They knew problems. Many of the prisoners hadn't been tested for coronavirus for up to a month. Before they got sent from China to this new prison at San Quentin. And so at Saint Quentin within days. They get the sides of their first infections. In the month, or so since those transfers San Quentin has now become the largest corona virus outbreak in California. There have now been more than fifteen. Hundred confirmed cases at San, Quentin alone and at least six deaths. Three of those deaths just came this weekend. And amidst this huge spike in more than fifteen hundred cases at San Quentin. Well now, the top medical officer for California prisons has been fired. And now with the virus, having spread unabated throughout San Clinton. It is I mean there's no wonder that a lot of people are worried a lot of different levels starting of course with prisoners. And with their families recently, we had the chance to speak with the mother of one prisoner at San Clinton and her name is Rita Zavala. And she told us this about her son's cellmate, recently testing positive and how her son is living now. Are Man their lives matter to. Just like everybody else. And they should be treated like. Animals? That so like they are treating them like. Just let him sit there. You know if you make it. Oh, good, if not allow you know. That's not how treated human. Stage they got there, but they're paying for their mistake. You know being in prison. But my son was. But I feel like he is now because I don't know. If he if he is going to get the virus, and not is GonNa make it through the by rich because of their medical is not the greatest. You know. Last point raised by Ms Avella is critical one. It's the it's not just the number of men that are dying at San. Quentin, that is the cost for alarm. It's also the huge number of prisoners who are positive there now who are requiring medical care and they're requiring advanced medical care, which means they're getting not just the prison itself, but within the whole local healthcare system, some hospitals within reaching distance of San Clinton, have become so taxed already by San Quentin prisoners filling up their issues that they're no longer accepting any transfers of California state prisoners to their facilities situations gotten bad enough that one local doctor told our NBC news affiliate and San Francisco. A Developer's Summer, with Underscore David Smith

"Hello everyone this is David sparks joined by my fellow co-hosts Mr. Stephen Hackett I Stephen Hey David. How are you good I feel like this week is kind of putting the capper on our W. WDC coverage. Finished up last week, we were able to talk about quite a bit during the during ww see, and then we talked about our Betas last week this week. We thought we bring in somebody who has a unique and interesting perspective on it. Welcome back to the show David Smith. You it's A. It's a pleasure to be here I mean I was? It's an honor to be on power users so I'm glad to be able to kind of come in gas lend a developer perspective to all the announcements that we just had. Thinking that you'd be the perfect guest for it by pay, we just had him on and then I looked twenty seventeen, so. I don't know what happened there in my head, but The you know David you were telling me before the show started. How many wwe cs have you participated in a believe? This is number twelve for me and my first one is in two thousand and nine, and I've been essentially attended in some form ever ever since so it's been like this regular fixture in my family that as far as like in which. That's longer than my children have. Our old, so like from their perspective, daddy always disappears for a week in June like that's just a part of a part of life that I'm sure they expect happens to every father in the world. They just June is when they go to California, but that's. It was a very unusual year to just actually just stay at home and be here, but sort of not here. kind of station in the basement to a just a after shift myself to California time, and then also just there's so much to do. But generally speaking, it was definitely a different year than all the others that I've had the privilege of experiencing. As, someone who's been W. DC with you? I think we one year we stay together and the relay Commun-. The but I feel like you are somebody that really always. My observation takes advantage of WBZ. You're always hustling to get to meetings and and get the content and I feel like you are in my mind for lack of a better term, a lunch pail developer just show up and you get the work done, and I've always appreciate that about you. So, let's talk, you know. You watched it from home this year I guess That was that. It was different I. Mean on the one hand. It was kind of Nice to be able to like my wife set next to me on the Sofa and we questioned on our TV, and it was. It was kind of Nice to share that with her. Because while we sometimes, we'll do that for things like phone announcements, or you know other apple events throughout the year when I'm not in California You know she's heard me talk about WDC many times and WC announcements are the ones that I like kind of lose my mind and be super excited, and like it's in a way that is unusual that it's not. As to you know with an iphone announcement because a cool new camera that's kind of clear and accessible, but like I'm losing my mind over some minor thing that they just mentioned and she has no idea and it was kind of a fun thing. I think for us to be to share that But it was definitely a bit odd to. Then just like just like. I watched the Hino, and then I go and sit at my at my regular, my regular office and I can download all the Betas, and like get started right away rather than like frantically trying to eat like an awful box lunch in between the keynote in the state of the Union and then like sometime later somehow try and get the. Betas installed over Chino potentially and not so reliable Wi fi, and so like it was definitely a very different Monday for WGC than I'm used to though I kind of liked it like it was kind of Nice I felt like I was super productive like in a very intense way which? Definitely took the weekend to recover from, but it was. It was different, but in a good way I, think is the best summary for how serve the General Rafeal if WGC was for me. The general take wagon talking to developer friends. It's like it was a more more is week easier to get information easier to manage Betas and find out what exactly what's going on. You're not kind of in the thick of it. But it was less useful of direct access to apple engineers. Maybe I'd say from my experience like they had labs this year. Which is alive that typically WGC they have these big sessions where apple engineers are available to attendees who go into, ask your questions, which is the one time of year typically where you're able to interact with an apple engineer, because typically they're locked. Locked away in Cupertino and can talk about anything related to what they're working on, but this one week they get let out in are allowed to do that. And I was very curious to see what they did for. The labs experience this year and worked well like I think I attended five or six lives, and they were just kind of like voice. Conference calls I could share I could share my screen to to the call if I had some code I needed to show them or something. I wanted them to kind of look at and by and large. That process was actually very efficient, and from the kind of likes to the way they structured. It is I mean they were available to anyone who had a pay developer account so I. Don't Know How many people that is in the world, but it is almost certainly. Probably millions if not. Like tens of millions and it was just kind of you signed up. You submitted a question, and they had of reviewed them the day before and assigned to a lab based on as like, do you? Did you actually see Mike? You had a reason a question. That's useful and. Effective to answer, and it was to the asking esque, the right lab, or the right place and feuded, both those things like I was able to get my labs, and got my questions answered, and so that was actually kind of cool. I think only part. I missed was really like. You're talking about the sexting at the the relay commune. Having that kind of that sense of community and being around other people. Like the idea. Of being on site in San Jose was something that I certainly missed this year, and that's a tricky thing to quantify 'cause i. think in most other ways. The Co like the conference was better for being virtual like the session videos were better, and they were more accessible in the sense that they are available immediately to everybody they all have full transcripts that are searchable and so are accessible, just both from an ex. A accessibility perspective of perse people for people for whom listening to video is difficult. They have the transcript immediately available, and they can do. Watch close captioning as Equally accessible to everybody irrespective, if you have the means and the resources and the ability to go to saint, say or not you just if you have an Internet connection, you have exactly the same connection, and then like all the content was super polished

Angus of The Real Seed Co. on The New Taxonomy for Landrace Cultivars

"You're listening to Jason. A curious about canvas podcast. Thanks so much for tuning in once again at today. I'm really really stoked. I am joined with one of my early guests and friends that was able to talk to you. At the earned the early days of the podcast angus from the real seat company. Thanks so much for being willing to come back on. We've got some exciting stuff to talk about It's great to be. Yes exciting paper this so yeah looking forward to yes so what? We're going to be talking about today. Relates to our first conversation that we had Which is all about Why first conversation went in a lot of directions but Talking about cannabis taxonomy. So there's a paper that came out just this year By John mcpartlin and earn a small. Both of whom we talked about in our first conversation and specifically this relates to Landrace varieties of cannabis and Talks about the importance of preserving those genetic so This is really come around full circle. And I'll go ahead and prepare people say that between the actual paper and the supplemental material. There's about one hundred fifty pages worth of material the centrally a book but Angus. What before we get into the nitty gritty details of what was present here and My thoughts in your thoughts and kind of how it meshes with your experience in the field. what were your initial impressions upon reading this paper? Safari taxonomy goes. My instincts is always being to defer to the experts as far as I can see on a small Israeli the taxonomic to defer to. He's some specializes in an all kinds of different places. But he's been publishing about it since the early seventies legislation is based on his work So I was fascinated to see that he has come round to the view that the two main domestic domestic the to the tweet. Sort of Genesis who've sub-species Indika now do merit formal recognition this As varieties in a stricter botanical sense. And you know they. They've done between mcparland more done the work to justify that clearly. They've been looking at Harry collections. All around the world it seems and I think they say about one thousand one hundred different accessions. They've they've looked at and yet clearly satisfied that this is justified. And this is more than just sort of pedantic exercises actually quite important to get people to stop taking conservation of these plant seriously if you look on the genesys database. I think there are about one thousand four hundred accessions of that kind of a sativa. The species in NJ banks around the world but out of those as I forget the exact number but it's a piddling amount this full role. Something accessions of sub-species indicator. I mean it's ridiculous five. I'm sorry five right. Yeah so this is a serious situation. I mean this is an incredibly important plants. And it's it's it's a. I think they actually understate how critically endangered it has mostly what they talk about sort of anecdotal examples of people. Introducing Hyper Non Chino hybrid most of the examples. They gave a from the and eighties so an mostly Simpson folk people bringing. They talk about one guy. I forget his name. Who is who says some Mexican seats to Afghanistan in the in the early seventies and then they they mentioned that I think Chanaka someone talks about bringing them Afghan landrace in the pool in the eighties but I don't talk about. This is the whole seed industry with the online online seat industry. And if you look at the the shipping lists of your average dot show seed company. It would make for horrifying reading. I mean the the the online sort of Internet commerce is just arriving in places like India and Southeast Asia So I I I mean. I'm just like some huge business park to the type of in Hyderabad India. I think so there will get up for on on coming to India so in the next couple of years. God knows what's going to happen. I mean it's it's something you already started people shipping hybrid seats into India and places. But I mean we're we're looking at a time and it's Yeah it's a serious situation so this part of getting people to take it seriously. I think it's quite important parts of it to persuade. Some people like the Millennium Seed Bank. And so and so you've got one one accession of Cannabis. I think it's Yeah

Let It Roll: The Subversive Side of Classical Music

"Some. Let it roll. Let me host Nate Wilcox. They will have the pleasure of welcoming back Ted Gioia to discuss again his book a subversive history of music. Today we're going to talk about a section of the book focusing on what we probably call classical music European concert tradition and starting off with chapters like musicians behaving badly so it's kind of a different take on classical music ted. Welcome back to the show right. Thanks for having me back. It's a pleasure and I wanted to do this because you know we talked about the book before and and it's it's a paradigm shifting book for me. It's one that really expanded my mind and and clarify things that have been wrestling with and you put it into words brilliantly and it it helped me focus on the whole scope of the show but the section in particular was one. I skipped over last time because I considered outside the breadth of the show which has covered things like the history of rock and roll music and Pop Music in the twentieth century. And I realized reading this book and do more research that the history of popular music as a business really goes back to the renaissance while absolutely on a lot of the behavior patterns of the musicians as well date back to that people often ask me what I learned researching this book and it was many years of research. But one of the quickest summaries. I have is. I found out that the music of might time and the music I grew up with which was jazz. Blues and rock and roll really the musicians back in the glory. Years of classical music weren't all that different and we have a tendency to sanitized that whole record to treat these people with great esteem. But they were just disruptive in many ways more disruptive than later rock musicians so. There's a lot of things that we take for granted in the current day that in fact for justice vibrate noticeable two hundred years ago. Yeah and you talk about this phenomenon that repeats throughout the history of music in the book which is a transition from disruption to respectability from outsiders to insiders and so often musical. Innovations are driven by people on the outside of the system but then there as they succeed as they impact the popular consciousness. They're pulled in to the inside. Sometimes they themselves become insiders other times. They're co opted. You know postmortem talk about that phenomenon. Logan that's right and we're very familiar with this in our own lifetime. We've all seen it when I was growing up The the Beatles and the Rolling Stones Bob Dylan. These dangerous. Figures feared by the establishment. But nowadays Bob Dylan is Nobel. Laureate Mick Jagger Sir Mick Jagger Paul McCartney Sir Paul McCartney and even the most extreme examples I mean take hip hop. Nwea the FBI tried to shut down the record label when they came on board nowadays. That same record has been enshrined in the National Archive of historic recordings of Congress. You have the Smithsonian out there putting together an official Smithsonian Guide to hip hop with fifty hip hop professors. Very idea about professor would have seen the contradiction in terms but they got fifty of them putting together this Canon of hip hop song. So we know about this from our own life and we've seen how these styles has been a good sized what we don't realize the same thing happened hundreds of years ago. The classic example is Bach. You Know Balk is considered now the poster child for respectability classical music is great composer. Who composed for God and country devout booth and run it Cetera et CETERA. You go back and do his own times and you find. That balk grew up with juvenile delinquents. Went to a school famous for gang. Culture was mentored by one of the worst gang members all his early jobs. Disciplinary problems At a young age to spend a month in jail He was called to task for cavorting with a young lady in the organ. Loft had prodigious beer-drinking every possible violation of rules and discipline he exemplified. None of that is is remembered nowadays. He's just the Lutheran composer so this recurring. We could talk about other composers. But there's one point I do WanNa make though I raise these issues in my book. Not because I'm trying to be gossipy or salaciously and it makes for great reading to read all these sexy anecdotes. I have the point. I'm trying to make though is these. Figures could not have created disruptive music they invented if they hadn't been disruptive in their own lifetimes you know almost all the commentary on Bach. We have from back then people complaining about him. You know people complaining about how show he was. He was called the task before the city council had to submit a written document explaining why he was using such new progressive and strange musical techniques. So this thing is conducted disruption in their private life and the disruption. Their music is connected. And that's why well upon it because if you don't understand that you will never understand the evolution of music and going back a little further. You talk about a couple of composers from the Italian renaissance. Who went way beyond Bach in terms of violations of social norms? I'm Talkin about two particular Rotella Mayo Trump Esino and Carlo Jesualdo and bothered these guys. Were involved in love. Triangles that resulted in murders committed by them. Oh this is right. It's interesting if you start with the music of these two individuals trauma Chino and swallow. Its gentle music and they will have songs. These pretty gentle love songs. Mandra goes in front of us but in their private life they were violent angry people and both of them not only did they commit murders but it was obvious to everybody that they were guilty and they were never punished and this is interesting because it shows you that. Starting around the renaissance it became the norm or musicians to go outside the norm. They were allowed indiscretions that other people were not and in fact. I'm convinced in both those instances their fame and reputation was increased by committing murder. I think people felt well. If this guy is such a passionate lover that he he he. He kills somebody in a fit of jealous rage. Who you know. There must be a similar intensity of passion in the song and we laugh at that. But that's the same way. People look at rock bands and the sex pistols. And we've seen this in our lifetime. If the musician out of control we suspect there must be a certain intensity in the music as well so it all came back to that time I mean just one more example I find this fascinating people that want to understand what it was like to be an artist during the Renaissance. The most famous book. They read the autobiography of Benvenuto Cellini. He was a renaissance artist famous as a silversmith sculptor but he was also a musician played the flute and he wrote his life story. And it makes fascinating reading but I went through that book page by page and I just marked off every time. Shalini committed a violent crime and and I think I came up potentially with at least fourteen. Violent crimes committed in his life. And this is not including the the the just the vandalism or the varsity these are actually violent crimes where he murdered somebody or beat them up and none of them was punished for he was. He was actually put in jail couple times. It was only because of arguments with his patrons over payment and artworks and my favorite anecdote from the whole book comes from a conversation when someone would approach the Pope instead of the jubilee. WanNa hire this Guy Shalini. You know he's committed murder and all this and the pope said you don't understand for people like Ben to Chile. Different rules apply that came directly from the mouth of the Pope and the renaissance. And this was a new idea and I would say we still live with this idea to even though even in the midst of the metoo movement and all the scandals. They're still this expectation that great musicians with by their own rules and they violate rules and and For good or bad that's part of the whole Agassi Western music.

Texas, California set to be the biggest Super Tuesday prizes

"Tonight on super Tuesday let's say Bernie Sanders does better than expected Joe Biden is is running the old southern strategy he's trying to just sweep the south there's a reason that his rally was in Dallas Texas he's trying desperately to keep up with the amount of delegates that Bernie is likely to win tonight Biden may be on top of the betting odds for a split second I still believe that after tonight Bernie Sanders is going to have a massive delegate lead it's just a matter of math this is the same party that math science Republicans don't believe in that as well I believe in this Bernie is going to win nearly every single one of California's four hundred and fifteen delegates he's gonna win nearly everyone of Massachusetts it's ninety one delegates Minnesota he's probably going to take the lion's share of that Maine Vermont are you kidding me of course she's going to take those another state Colorado has sixty seven delegates the math tilts clearly in Bernice favor Biden has to hope that with Texas is two hundred twenty eight delegates Utah it's twenty nine and that Virginia where he has surged to the lead with ninety nine delegates this is going to be enough to negate Sanders massive advantage in terms of the delegates in the states that he is likely to win Oklahoma Tennessee North Carolina is another big prize it's entirely possible that you do see Biden stay somewhat close this that to Sanders but the sheer volume of delegates at play in places where Sanders is gonna win massive massive holes call out California chief among them Colorado this ensures that Sanders is still going to have a big lead it's no secret that at what the Democratic Party is trying to do is rally all of its forces it's trying to do with the Republican Party never could to try to get an anti Sanders candidate the way that the Republican Party wanted to get in twenty sixteen and anti trump candidate the reason that Donald Trump is president today is the fact that there were so many Republicans running for the nomination that truck could win justice Sanders has been with twenty thirty percent of the vote what was so shocking about Joe Biden wasn't that he won South Carolina everybody knew we was going to win South Carolina the fact that the media is playing it as this big surprise old my goodness what was shocking was the margin that he won in what was shocking was that there were more South Carolina especially black voters down there who flocked to Bernie Sanders that Bernie Sanders didn't get the momentum with black voters that he got with with chinos after Nevada bieten needed every other candidate who could possibly take votes from M. out what's going to continue to kill him is Michael Bloomberg and tonight we're gonna find out whether Michael Bloomberg literally wasted half a billion dollars on this vanity project of running for president because now the fire is too good to be trained on Bernie so much as it's going to be trained on Michael Bloomberg if he has anything short of a miraculous showing her he actually tops Biden in a couple of states the pressure for him to drop out into endorsed Biden and to use all of his billions to try to stop Bernie Sanders first and then to stop Donald Trump is gonna be incredible
