"If this guy gets the death penalty and hung in public, it's not gonna be good enough. There'll be a celebratory riot. And if he gets, you know, 10 years old, be upset and they'll be be writing over that so Um, you know, it's It's a touchy situation of the young kid. His tragic is it maybe he was, you know. Certainly Ah gang member hanging out with a 21 year old gang member out at 2 30 in the morning with the gun. Um so I I don't know what a police suffers are supposed to do if he thinks somebody's raising the gun to shoot other than defend themselves, so Talking here, huh? This is this is Alderman Esposito talking about our 13 year old. Adam to Lehto, who was killed at 2:45 A.m.. Have you seen that video? Do they give Alderman a chance to look at it before they release it? They didn't add. I don't think I am not so sure the mayor's even seen and I'm sure she's been briefed on it. I know, she said She did not want to see it until the the kid's mother saw it. I haven't heard that the mother had sought yet. Um, viewed it, so I don't know. When's that gonna happen? Um, so I know advocates. Um are, um, advocating to show it, But, I mean, I think in, you know, mom I'm should see it first. And then she should say, OK, I have no problem with this being released, so I don't understand how things work with Pope what it comes to the release of videos, but I've been told that, you know, um, the civilian today. Uh, the civilian is It's not gonna look too good. But you know the police officers, they would understand a little bit more. When you tell somebody to drop the gun, and then you raise your hand to throat a gun. It's a little bit of a different story. I mean, it's a split second decision. If people would take the not everybody could take it. Certainly all the men to take about Joe civilian can take it. But if anybody ever took the shoot, don't shoot class at the Chicago Police Academy. They would kind of understand what these officers go through. So Way. Ask an awful lot of our police office, especially police officers and urban centers. That's for sure. No expense, especially today. I mean, we have what we have a test right now, Uh, sign up test and my understanding is there's There was no less than 2000. People signed up for the test and using half of the people actually go through and take the test. So that's pretty sad. A job that only is matter of 25 years ago. You'd have you know 30 40,000 people saying it up and now you have maybe 2000 and sign up in only 1000. I'll take it. We go through tend to get one. So I mean, we're looking at being able to hire 100 police officers in 2021, which is we're gonna be in big trouble if we don't keep our numbers up. Let me tell yourself Ultimate Sposato back to your comments regarding your concern that protesters from the suburbs or further might converge on downtown Chicago. Is there a way do you think, and this, of course, is risky as far as a civil rights. Not talking racially necessarily, but impeding People's movement. Freedom of movement is her way. When videos were released, their verdicts come down just to seal off the downtown C T. A Expressways and say nobody come downtown on Ley residents of the city in the city. You know, I'm not an attorney. I can't imagine we could check ideas, but we can't seal it off. You know what we did with the bridges last time raise the bridges that kind of keep some control. So that's actually a pretty good idea. I think that just seal up inbound into the city and we don't need these knuckleheads coming into our city and wreaking havoc. And in my my opinion, I felt there was a disproportionate amount of white people, especially, ah, young white girls out at these riots, whether it was the Columbus statue or whether it was Downtown. Uh, after the after the The event with the police officers in Minnesota with George flight, so Automobile. Leave it there for this afternoon. Thank you for your time. His eyes Much appreciated, sir. Earl Briggs with the medical examiner's office testified that on the night of the shooting detective. David. March told him that MacDonald lunged at the officers with a knife. CHICAGO. Police sergeant. Larry, smelling, a supervisor at the Chicago Police Academy testified that the tactical response report should only been filled out by Van Dyke since he was the one who fired his gun. But it was filled out by Van Dyke, Walsh and Gaffney stating that they had all been battered by McDonald's. On Cross Gaffney Attorney pointed out that Gaffney had listed the address on his report as the address where McDonald had cut his tire, not the address where the shooting occurred. But perhaps most crucial to the cover up trial was the testimony of officer Dora Fontaine who pulled up to the scene of the incident just as Van Dyke got out of the car. Fontaine said, she told detective March that Macdonald may have been swinging the knife at his side, but that was it. She never told him that she saw McDonald walked towards lunge at or attack Van Dyke. But one night months later, a coworker texted her a link to a report about the shooting. The report said she claimed that McDonald was attacking Van Dyke. I started. And what the FARC I was upset because I'm not said that. Officer. She said that after she spoke out, other officers called her a rat, a snitch and a traitor. She said some of them wouldn't even back her up on calls saying she didn't deserve to be helped. After five days of testimony Judge Dominica Stevenson was ready with her verdict. It took nearly an hour for her to address each issue. This states indictment accused the officers of obstruction of justice, misconduct and conspiracy. But. Judge. Stevenson said there was not enough proof that the officers purposefully hid evidence. The question is whether these officers intentionally or recklessly completed these swarms with false information. The state argues that the information and the reports is false because it is in conflict with the video and because they were filled out with almost identical information to people with two different vantage points can witness the same event but describe it differently, this does not necessarily mean that one of them is lying rather it could be in any kate indication that they are describing what they saw from their vantage point with their own perceptions in contrast people who view the same incident can also describe the event similarly as before this does not mean that if they do this, they are lying. All three officers who had since been fired from the police department were acquitted of the charges. As the United States continues to process police custody does and gears up for other police officers charged with crimes. There's understandable discord. Dan. Nick a classic example, just a couple of days ago in Chicago and that was an individual actually shot. Chicago police officer and there was multiple police officers around and not a single person fired their weapon at this individual. So does it have? That case do these other cases have a chilling effect? There is no question that it does in especially in cases where. You know like Van Dyke, you hit his training in the policy was that an individual with a knife within thirty feet? was, a potential deadly threat. Here. He had ten feet away and then Illinois State Law clearly allowed him to use force for a number of reasons all not the least of which taking out the fear of his life. You know that you can. We can argue but I would say a policy police department clearly said that that individual in a position where he can cause bright bodily harm to van Dyke but also the fleeing felon, he was able to to shoot this individual. Even if he didn't think he was causing a threat to to him or his partners but simply because he was fleeing he was fleeing a lawful arrest after committing forceable felonies and he was using a deadly weapon. As a means to escape, SORTA, walk thoroughly allows for that. The training allows for the shooting and when police officers get charged and convicted for things that the legislatures legislators have them, they can do and their supervisors have trained them to do. "WGN TV investigates tonight at nine back to the Steve Cochran show. Jolly happy. On the button. Who to wise out of the last time, you made a Snowmass snow, man. I mean, a real snowman hard. It's hard to do. It's hard to do without snow on the golf course. Yes. That that would be making a different kind of snowman that'd be an eight, but our friend, Alex Paul is the most valuable person on the planet today. Allocate is a bachelor of fine arts sculpture student at the university of Nebraska Omaha. I guess my first question would be I didn't know these get a sculpture degree at the university of Nebraska. Most definitely can all right. And where are you from Alec? Originally from Las Vegas. I've lived all over the US, but I have family here in, you know. It's interesting that you would go to Nebraska to learn sculpture after living all over the country. Living in Vegas got upset. Well, it's not a bad place to start off the more. So where I end up this where I think it's gonna matter. So you may say well, snowman sculpture guy sculpture guy's gonna be really good at the snowman. But explain how the started you couldn't sleep. Yeah. So actually started off I was photographing a project of mine, I built a robot. And I wanted to photograph a robot building a snowman thought it would be a funny commentary on how robots will never be human. And I after rolling that. I man it was just too easy. So I looked out across the field. Yeah. I saw tons of snow, and I just wanted to fill the place of so many Aspen. Ask me how many snowmen Alec made in one night. How many how many how many eighty four eighty four eighty four? That's gotta be a record. Isn't it? I don't know. No one's really looked into it. Alec when you started. You know, you did the one and then you do the second third. Did you did you were they organized in lines was it hap hazard? Yeah. I guess it was just a little haphazard. I just started rolling balls of snow and originally that's all I was going to do. I was just kind of like a whole bunch of balls. And just you know, I thought that would be crazy, but then decided to go through and finish them office. So men get any help. No one helped me. So they so the university of Brassica wakes up to eighty four snowman is this on campus or on the edge campus. Where was it? No it wasn't on campus. It's actually just right across the street from my house it's in Leavenworth park here. The hall. But there had to be ahead to be a major the, you know, the selfie photography bus trip. I mean, everybody had to come see that didn't they? Yeah. A lot of people did take pictures and people have been sending me pictures and stuff it's been really fun. Alec. You've been someone who's involved with art projects and sculpture projects before when you were in the middle of doing this. As you explain the process to do this. Did you recognize this could be something that would be viral that that many people would want to see the the amount of snow men in this one area? Yeah. So actually like halfway through. I was starting to feel that feeling of like wanting to give up, you know, and someone drove by and I heard them have a little freak out, you know, and I could roll down their window, and they had to yell out their window along with all of their friends. Like, yeah. Yeah. You know, keep going, you know, and and it was still it was still dark. I was doing this in the middle of the night. And you know, so that was that was a little motivational that really helped me keep going list when people cheered me on these are real sized snowman like initially when I first started the story. I assume these were like knee high. Because like snowball size. But these are these are good size. Come up to your chest tape, real snow because a lot of us might have had the idea, even but we would have made one and a half and win a cold. So how long does it take to make eighty four snowman? Some other news station. Did the math for me? They said that she took quite the eight and a half hours. It took to make all of them. And you divide that by eighty four took something like seven and a half minutes personnel, man. That's fast. I mean, that's your your personal man ratio. That's a low number. That's speedy. That's Olympic speed. But we've all been in that when you're kind of an insomniac state and can't sleep. Sometimes you become so hyper focused like you're able to just crank stuff out. You know? I was because you're a sculpture major does your family, the the big negative of having somebody in sculpture as you always are making these giant sculptures that. They have to house like, oh, did you see my big project? I'm sending it home. Mom and dad. Space for all the sculptures that you've done over the years. Don't they? Yeah. Yeah. I'm actually it's funny. I have a storage unit myself full of all my sculptures. I haven't tried to pin them off on family yet. It's a cool story. Alec. Look it really is. And by the way, do you have a girlfriend because if you can't turn this into a relationship with somebody that you're not working hard enough? I'll have to build more. Very impressive. Alec paulin. We see this. Do we have this up yet on social? Okay. At Cochran show on Twitter, Steve Cochran show, Facebook and Instagram all over, and there's no men have there is some leaves in this now man because you know, leaves on the ground got in the snowman. But I'm not going to hold that against you. And then curious, well, then I also you know, I was looking out across the field. And I couldn't differentiate a snowman between snowman. So I decided that I needed to color them. Then you could you could tell them apart from each other. It's an artistic choice who are we to question your choice? Please. Alec. Alec paul. You gotta you gotta social media feed. You want to tell us about that. We can chase you on for your next wacky insomniac project. I do the Alex Paul on Instagram. Yes. The Alec alachua. And then I also just launched a website the Alec Paul dot com. Good luck. Man. I look forward to being super famous and you'd better still return our phone call. I definitely will. Thank you so much. Thank you been the most valuable person on the planet. Breaking then the headlines go straight to the headlines right now. And then Ryan nobles. Join us going to lots to talk about with Ryan Steve Steve good morning, everyone nine degrees in Chicago. A little bit of light snow out. There are the partial government shutdown now in its thirty first day, and Democrats and Republicans appear to be no closer to ending it.
