"Dean. So nice to have you both here with us. It took this new show to finally get both of you to come on the show today. Come on much sooner. Just waiting for my invitation. Just waiting for my invitation. Tanya. You know, Amy, you know I can't speak for but Tanya I know has been a little busy on Sunday mornings. The last five years or so, Yeah. Hosted five years. You, you two You've been pulling double duty out on the morning. Getting us up on our latest entertainment, New right? I think I said 50 years ago, Uh, that bozo and the rest premiered. It's actually 60 years ago in the very studio where you will premiere this new show tomorrow. Uh, it's got to be and you know what else to Dean? The funny thing is the last five years of boho were directed by Steve Novak, who will also be directing our show. I'm sorry about that. Oh, we love Steve loves we love Steve. Steve is, uh, great friend for decades. And it was producer and director of the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy telethon for which he and I and I worked very closely for decades. He produced and directed the many breast cancer specials and also specials that we did on WGN as well. So you are in very, very good hands with Steve Novick. Uh, Amy talk a little bit about what daytime Chicago was going to be. Oh, you know, we're going to do a little bit of everything I heard you mentioned earlier. Like cooking. We're gonna students and cooking. We're going to be doing some fashion. We're going to be doing some parenting. We're going to be doing just all the lifestyle stuff that happens. You know, before your 9 to 5 day, really, you know, managing relationships, both of co workers and friends And you know if you're single, if you're dating if you're married, we're kind of good. Tackles a little bit of everything, and then also highlight all the cool things happening in and around the Chicago Land area. I know you guys have been getting ready, Tanya. What? What are some of the things that you've got planned? Uh, you know some of the topics and things that you're going to be dealing with in your first shows. They're really excited. Yes. I'm really excited. Tomorrow. We have a special guest. Um, I don't know. Amy. Should I tell people who it is? Yeah, because we want them to tune in. Uh, first lady Amy, showman. Wow. Be joining us on the show. Yeah, Exactly. A lot of people know her name. But can you actually say you could actually heard her speak? Have you actually heard her talk about any of her passion projects? Just do you really know anything about her? So we'll be diving into that with her. We're really excited that he agreed because she has turned down so many interview requests, but he granted hours and we are excited, so we'll hear from her. Uh, yes. So excited. Our friend Mario Rizzotti step will be joining us. She cooked up some dishes. We, You know, we play a little game. We just having a little fun. You know, we're sandwiched in between the morning show and the noon show And we know these days, especially the news is quite happy. Um, so we just want to take that one hour to take a break. Have a little fun last Um, you know, just just just have a good time. We're like your friends were just having a conversation. We're talking about all the things that you'd be talking about at the water cooler if you were at work, or if you're out at the park late to other moms as they're taking their kids out for a walk, or if you're at the bar hanging out with your friends, Those are the things that will be done here. You know, It was so funny. You were talking about tomatoes. I'm getting off track here a little bit. But you were talking about tomatoes rate. So Friday during one of our rehearsals. Jeanette, The production manager, came in and made me to a lot of which are basically is that it's a popular Mexican drinking tomato juice and yellow and hot sauce and everything like that is both a V and I were like, Okay, well, we're not fans of tomato juice, and so we tried it and we're like, not act up the T O earlier in the week he made Yeah, I think about that one. Actually, she actually made the cocktails. Yeah. Wow. She made Moscow mules earlier in the week, which worked out list. Yes, it was 10 o'clock. It was 10 o'clock, and we were drinking oclock someplace, Tanya. Right. There you go. There you go. So we're just going to be honest, we were hanging out at the happen fun buttons, and we hope everybody will cut loose, But, yeah, well, you know, that's uh, you know, for years we've had Rachel Ray, Come on. Right after the morning news, which meant you know we could take our time cleaning up all the empty cans of old style that we usually throw throw into the studio. We're going to have to be, uh, you know, much more fastidious and our cleaning efforts. On the morning show. Join us there and come join us. You know, I'll warn you. I mean, we haven't had guests in studio with us, uh, for quite some time because of the pandemic, But one of these days don't be surprised if there's a donkey in the hallway or You know, you never know. On that morning show what could be happening out in the hallway and now the fund will continue into 10 o'clock with you guys. Yeah, we're really looking for definitely. Tom, you can take a deep dive on since you're talking about how it's historic Studio One is she's taking a deep dive on studio one on her show, so people can really see some of the history in there because it's such a cool state, right? You know, everybody doesn't know that there's still part of the bozo set in there. Still, that's right. Uh, we got we got some big shoes to fill, literally and figuratively right up until they have completely remodel not completely remodeled the studio because As you say, part of the bozo set still remains in that studio. You'll be able to see it when you tune in tomorrow. But up until recently, you know, they redid the floors and you know, but have, like all new furniture and everything. It's Really beautiful. You could see the tape marks that were on the floor for 40 years where they used to do the grand Prize game. And people could you know, people were always thrilled to see where this is where the buckets were, and this is where the kids put their toes. Under the line, you know to play the game. It's a very, very historic studio. So cool. Yeah, the whole building. It's I mean, it's just amazing. I mean, I've been in the building since I think when I first started, I was still with the L T. V. And we moved in. And what 9 4000 and seven One of those days. One of those years we moved in, and I was still amazed to be in that building. It's so much history in our building and so much, You know, it's such a family that's still amazes me, too. The day you walked into my house, and it's Hey, you're speaking to people by name. Hey, Dean. But don't take it out on the business. You're in their store. You're in their club for crying out loud. I don't know that all the counties or cities are operating that way. But that's the process you call 311. And you tell on the business. Listen, and I don't mean you shouldn't And then the city will investigate that, and that's the business owners problem. The police are another agency that could get involved and they would then be the ones would go after the individual not following the mandate. The the order or the the ordinance. But you know that's coming as well you co authored. A new book called levers the framework for building repeatability. Into your business. Why is repeatability so important. Small business well you know we all the four of us who worked on this book together and we all believe that data and metrics driven companies are the companies that win and the reason that they win is that they the data shows you what your customers really want and allows you to do more of that thing that they want and allows you to make your business model repeatable and more importantly scalable. This is all really easy to say but man is difficult to do so troy wide small business owners because i find small business owners. Don't even look at their financial data and that's kind of basic. It is basic as a matter of fact your financial data that most people look at is backwards looking. People should be looking at their income statement and balance sheet every month. And you know coming out of quickbooks or zero or whatever tool they choose but remember. That's up the you of what has happened last month last quarter last year. "1000, including Sox games for the Chicago Land area. Welcome in what is the final edition of the first draft podcast for this season, and before us a load of Mel and Todd. I'm gonna give them like five extra seconds to catch up. On some sleep and say Thank you, everybody who has spent time listening to us over the last handful of months, plus the people that I'll make this podcast possible. Mike Boss Matt Up for David Presley helped bring this podcast to life through video, Daniel dot our intrepid producer and all those involved with the audio product. It was a banner year for us, and it was a banner year again for Mel Kiper Jr and Todd McShay. Mel, How are you doing after the draft? Have you slept more than like six or seven hours per night? Since then, a little less like that night. I was like that survival. This is our kind of our bear Grylls moment, throw us out there and see if we could come back and still stand today. After a couple days after the draft and we're still standing. We're so excited. Todd Scott is mock draft for next year coming out Thursday. I've already got some guys raided that I got a big board coming out in two weeks for next year's dress up this one of being a real view mirror will move on. The next year pretty soon, But today we'll kind of review everything and come up with some some ideas about who we think did well, some surprising, puzzling moves and wrap up the dress. I'll tell you what guys. A lot of good players went undrafted. And they've already signed with respective teams there, You kind of know, 8th and 9th round fixed, and some of those guys could be in camp and helping things this year. The National Football League having hanging in e. I told type of the story yesterday, So my parents both worked for Delta. Right Growing up. I've been flying. Plane since I was like, 89 months old. I've never been able to sleep on a plane ever. I so we I'm flying from Cleveland to Boston, and I got a tap on the shoulder. It's a flight attendant, and he says it's time to go. You got to grab your bag and go. Ah, 100 Thousands He did in one, eh? That was my seat. One, eh? 150 people had passed by me. I slept through the whole thing. I look around. And there were people with. You know, the cleaning crew. The trash bags. Cleaning everything up on things is embarrassing. Isn't it? Lucky that plate one head somewhere else that take you out to take it. Oh, yeah, Growing up in Germany. That is amazing. Well, it it's certainly well earned, and the content has not stopped. The draft is over. I know Mel is done. It's draft grade thought has done his biggest Question. Mark. You mentioned that tires doing his 2022 mark track, which comes out on Thursday mail. You're working on your big board. The draft really is a 365 days a year event, but we don't want to let this draft that just went behind us. Passed by without taking at least one more bite of the Apple to review some of the picks that were made some of the strategies involved by teams and maybe those that we felt like fair, stronger than others. So we're gonna start and reviewing this draft by starting with teams that we thought Stand down draft knocked out of the park. So, Mel, I'll give you the first papal was the team knock, knock this draft out of the park. Two ways. The Miami Dolphins awful like that a great dress. I don't do. They get players to help on both sides of all. We got 2023 1st round pick from the 40 Niners, but Jalen Waddle Jalen Phillips should be impact performers of pass rusher and Phillips and a receiver. Return Man. Put returner and Waddle John Holland Liam like the bird hunter long that second tight end Fornell Coleman at huge book an underrated attack while you mask They did really well in the Chargers, I thought lined it up. They sat. They waited for Slater to be there. He was a 13 Asante Samuel, junior cornerback from Florida State. On the more underrated players goes that 47. Then they get guys like Chris run for good pass rusher in the fourth round. I like Brendan. Hi. Mrs. Potential in Nebraska know about the Senior Bowl practice. I went back. It was the tape in the rascal. He held up very well there with the Cornhuskers Roundtree running back in the sixth around. Nice pick there. So I gave the Chargers and the Dolphins of two highest praise the Giants. Kind of amended that Came up the B Plus should have given him a day They moved out twice. They got a first round pick next year from Chicago. They got social or in a second for various Tony and the first added some real good players along the way. So I'd say that the Dolphins charges Giants in that order for May. I was just saying that comes to mind for you. I was just gonna say quickly. Gettleman. Dave Gettleman. The GM of the Giants has never traded down before And so he kind of went against the grain and move down twice, and I thought it over. Really successful draft. I'll start with the other New York team. The Jets. I thought Joe Douglas did a tremendous job and listen. He deconstructed the roster and get got all this. This draft capital on 20 picks over to your stand so that he can maneuver around. He's starting to spend all 20 text. But it's just figuring out the guys that he wants. Obviously sitting at number two they love Zack Wilson, the quarterback from BYU. He knew that he wanted to go up and get Elijah there. Tucker, the offensive tackle in college, who's gonna kick inside the guards jets to protect the quarterback? They want to do. With Wilson what the previous regime never really was able to do with Sam Donald and that's protect him and put weapons around them, so they utilize a little bit of that draft capital to move up. Sure, I think it was 18 overall to get Elijah. Very Tucker was a 14. Okay, 14, and then and then early in the second round, they sometimes lucky you got you got to be lucky to be good..

"Faucet in the house high and low. Flush every toilet. Until the water stops flowing. Then you turn everything off. Turn that main water valve back on to refill the system. And there are these what they call compression chambers behind the walls like behind the toilet and faucets, whatnot. That eliminate that water hammering and or rattling Now, after you do this, Greg, you do have to loosen up the Air Raiders. On the faucets and take those off to rinse him because you'll loosen up a little bit of settlement they can clog, you know, reduce some flow into those fixtures. But you put that all back together and you should be able to solve the problem. Okay. Now would that be cause and sometimes we get They're coming out of the faucet. No but the air and are you on a well or you wanna city water. Well. Okay, well, that The that could be an issue with if you're just getting air and the rattling than what I just told you to do may not be the only thing. It could be something with your With your bladder tank, your pressure tank that's in the system that that needs to be looked at. And perhaps either the baffle is leaking. There's a baffle inside that tank. And you probably need the help of a well contractor to come out and take a look at that, and they can put a test on there to see if that Pressure tank needs to be replaced. Okay, so that's probably that makes more sense to me than if you if you're getting air out of the system, sometimes. Yes, then that is probably what the issue is is to pressure tank issue, not Not an issue with shutting up. What I described does work as long as we have pressure and water in the system, But I think I would start with the sewer contractor. Well contractor to come and take a look at that. Thanks So much for the phone call 8772134. Lou, This is David, who's in Fox River Grove. David. Good morning Urine. How smarts radio. Good morning, luv. Just I have a question. Just thinking of when it gets warmer in the spring. I wait. Hold, wait. Hold on a second. Let's all just think about when it's going to get warmer right now. That's a good thing for us to think about. That's for sure. I put in an outdoor kitchen last year, and I just love it. But we want to point we're thinking of putting in, um A couple of sales over the top of it. Yeah. Wondering if you know anybody out on our area that would because I got to connect it to the house. Right, And I'm not really sure about how to do that part. Um I'm wondering if you know anybody or who you could suggest to Possibly come out and give me you know, ideas. You know who this You know who this is in the realm of is you've probably heard me read some commercials, and you've heard them on the station architect of Chicago Land. Yeah. Okay. There there Enough. It was in there. Well, yeah, because they're all about those outdoor living spaces and creating patios and you know, outdoor kitchens and that kind of stuff. I'm thinking about doing an outdoor kitchen to this this spring. I would you do set it all up with the countertop in the grill and everything. Yeah, I have a gas grill and I have a wreck Tech smoker and a pizza oven and like a raise bar countertop. Came out really nice. And we really love it. Unfortunately, last year we couldn't have too many parties. But, you know, we're looking forward to this year. Yeah, I mean, when we get through this covert thing, Lindsay and I will definitely come out there and you can make us like some barbecue or something like that. Believer that you're more than welcome. I'm putting like £60 of pulled pork on the girl on the smoker tonight. How are you going to do that in this cold weather? How's that smoker going to keep up? Actually, it's called Wreck Tech. It's It's appellate smoker. And it it does. It keeps up. Just fine. Wow, that long. If it gets more than five degrees. Either way, I'll be I'm surprised, you know? Yeah, yeah, Get give. That's awesome. Give our conduct of Chicago and our jingle and talk to them. I think they can probably help you out with that. Terrific. Thank you so much. And thanks for what you do know you're my pleasure. Thank you so much for calling. I appreciate 8772134568 is our phone number. This is Abraham in Chicago. Hey, Abraham. Good morning. Morning. Beautiful. How are you? I'm good. What's going on? Well, here is the problem, Sir. We have a two unit building Typical Chicago apartment that has a flat roof. My question is we go up there periodically to kind of shovel the snow off of the roof to kind of alleviate the weight of the snow. There's some type of is there some type of plugging Mac? Taking weekend roll out, Uh, you know, on the roof so that we can you know if it snows or we get heavy snow, you know, after it's done, plug it in and let it do its thing. Absolutely, um Mm. Lindsay. We talked about this product. It is a I'm gonna think about it. Hold on a second. They make a mat and a pad to go on like your front stairs. And they have a man right there. Matt would go on your sidewalk too, right? Yeah. And so you You could buy a couple of these. And you remember Lindsay, we talked about this company where you plug in the stair treads. He tracks he tracks. Yeah, I just remembered he tracks Tracked each 80 t. R a K So he tracks is you could put this on there exactly what you just said. You could lay these mats down and run a syriza of extension cords and you could plug it in when you know this is a problem. And it would help to melted now, this kind of heavy snow. It would you know, it would take a little while, but it's safe for the new crawling around up there. Right, Right. That's my thing. I mean, I'm you know, I'm playing Russian roulette every time I go up there because you know, I go through the hatch and I'm like, Oh, God. Here we go. Hold on tight. Yeah. Look that think it go ahead. Oh, I've seen the max. I saw the walkway mad and regular met my questions. Is there anything Ah, little bit bigger or, you know, let's say, Well, I'm like, Yeah. I mean, I'm sure commercially what you could probably what you'd probably end up doing there is putting heat coils down where you would Weave them back and forth. I mean, that's you know, that's another option. Two is you could take cords and they have larger ones that come in a school. You literally could start at one end and weave back and forth, weave back and forth and then just leave it up there all the time, and it would lie on top of the top of the roof area. And then, um, you'd plug it in, you know, probably in that respect. What would make the most sense is to keep it plugged into a thermostat. On debt just kicks on automatically. And even if it doesn't snow, it's gonna be on there for you. But that would probably be the best bet for you all together. You just got to get the right system and you've got to stay on top of it so that it works for you. Thanks So much for the phone call bumping up against time here When we come back, we're going to talk to someone about remodeling your bathroom. Doesn't that sound like a good idea? Right now? We'll take a quick break me back after this. News nation this hour. I'm don clip in Chicago public schools say pre K and cluster teachers who failed to report on Monday will be terminated from.

"I've been there comes the bill. What do you got on the teachers? I want to put her hands down to the To the driver that picked up the dog, Erin. And, yes, Erin. It's amazing. It's amazing that we're talking about 6 A.m. When it is dark, it is colder than a well digger's behind. There's nobody around. And he heard a whimper. A little silent whimper and he thought, What is that? And he opened it up and there's a little puppy who was I'm sure near death and he picked him up. And he had a problem and he got him to the vet. He's got a leg amputated, but damn it, He's still alive, and now Erin's family is gonna more less, adopt the dog and and take care of him and that's built. That's a beautiful thing right there. Yes. Yes, it is. And I I'm gonna tell everybody you need to respect these guys. I called drivers. I don't want to call him. Anything else but driving. I'm driving myself. Working night. I did with thousands of people from all over. Due from one facility to another delivery three facility. I will do with several 100 different drivers to deliver this break. Head for facilities. Yeah, and I've never got anything we've had other drivers get something, but no one at our facilities have ever got anything. But now I have my son. To today. He starts a part time job. He should be in school. As a junior in high school because that Because he he could've school. They won't let him go to school. He wants to go to school. Please educate me. My parents are paying serious property taxes. This is important. You can't relive your junior year or your third grade year. Please put me in school and they won't let him go. No, no, and it upset me so much Bill. It's just it's I am so irate. I can't. I've never missed a day of work since the stuff started, never missed that work, and I deal with way more people than these teachers. Way more at different states. Michigan Ah Hyo, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana. And they're coming from Chicago Land. Um, um, New York into these places, and I travel to not work the docks because I have to go there. And once I traveled four hours away from my facility here in Kentucky I traveled to these places and I work on the dock with people that are from all these other states. Nothing, Bill, you're preaching to the choir. I think if you want to work, you're working man. You'll find a way to work. And if you don't want to work like a teacher, you don't have to work. You get paid if you don't work, and they need to find somebody else's their job because I believe I could do a better job, Nick and give me their part of their pension. Well, that that's not receiving, you know, build a beautiful thing about teachers as they work about 8 8.5 months a year and they get pensions that are guaranteed for life after 25 years, So you could be a teacher when you're 22 23 by the time you're 50 Making 4 $5000 a month with free health care. Then you work some other job. That's what I would do. But, you know, a guy like we need more people like you and less people like lazy teachers. Thank you for your call. Let's go to Doug on a cell phone and thousands of others dog on a cell phone. Welcome to the Bill Cunningham Show and Doug Go ahead. Yeah, I'm a driver myself. And, uh, we already have more people out here working. Then we got teachers. Uh so they're all working. Of all fuck, but You were brought up to modern are in seat, you know? Whole p g. Sittenfeld just thinking about, you know the scales of justice or not equal? We all know that and that's part of the whole. This whole Social justice movement is that people are not treated equally when they go into the courtroom, and that's what C G C B or whatever his name is counting on. Is counting on doing this. This public sympathy thing with all these influential people signing this document for him. You know it's mine or dark and go to jail for 18 months, and you're sick and even you're sitting here saying, you know. Oh, you know, this guy's got a family that he shouldn't go to jail. Why not? Well, I'm saying, I have a softer attitude. By white collar crimes. Then criminals who actually heard other people physically, If you put me in charge, I'd give white collar criminals whether the black, white or brown break when it comes to locking him up for months or years in jail when none of us have to worry about pages, Sittenfeld breaking into our homes, raping our daughters, robbing banks selling drugs, and so I don't care if you're Doug Evans or P G. Sittenfeld or Jeff Pastor or to my Denard, I would not have put to my Denard and present for a year and a half. Her career has been ruined. She's not running again for political office. It's going to cost you know $50,000 a year to lock her up in a federal prison. Put me in charge to Maya Denard would not go to jail any more than P g. Sittenfeld should unless they fall from grace is second or third time and I've been in jail. Many of my clients have been there, and it's a lousy, stinking, rotten place. That doesn't rehabilitate anybody. The only people in jail, I think of those that hurt other people, physically or emotionally. Kids that are hurt women that are raped banks that were robbed drug dealers. Those guys belong in jail. But someone like to my Denard, I believe should not spend a day in jail, assuming she's remorseful, assuming she pays it, But do you have to worry about tomorrow? Denard doing something to you or your family? No, absolutely. But that's what I'm saying. If she was made to do the public shame, a walk, being handcuffed and let out. Why wasn't he? That's the reason why he shouldn't have been. It's called white privilege, Man. Because his lawyers to Maya Denard did not have the ability to hire rich defense counsel. She had no money and Jeff Pastor Didn't have the money to hire rich toe defense counsel P. G. Sittenfeld lawyered up quickly. He knew what was coming. His lawyers, white collar type lawyers called the U. S attorney's office and said he will surrender when he wanted to surrender. And now the other two did not have attorneys getting ahold of U. S attorney's office at a time. That's why Well, I You know, Personally, I worked in the system for 27 years and I saw firsthand that the system itself leads to, uh, issues in our society that are unjust. In the system and that criminal justice system just continues to grow and grow and grow. I would much rather see my tax dollars going into education, then then independence in jail. What But again, you know if it's discrimination against the black, it's discrimination against the white. You can't have this. Unequal system of how we treat people based upon their position or influence or their wealth. And and then this society. It does operate that way. But Doug I've spent time in 11 or Correctional Institute. What real criminals are and I would say half the criminals at 11 at L. C. I In Lebanon. In my viewpoint don't belong there because they did not commit crimes against human beings. They committed passing bad checks, charges or bribery charges or things that did not have the impact of hurting people, and we still spend billions of dollars a year on corrections. And to my Denard. Her life is destroyed, and she knew it. She can't get employment anywhere else. But while on council she was had her hand out because she couldn't afford to pay our bills bills. She was living way beyond her means, and she's got a comment you're making. You know, I don't know what you make. But if an average person makes $65,000 a year on a part time job With benefits, which is what City Council is. They should be able to function pretty good, but she was living way beyond her means, and that was her difficulty. Right? Absolutely. You know, she was in a position that she obviously could not handle the influence and the level are you know that what you tell me? How did we get to this point.

Addiction in the Age of Covid, with Dr. Amer Raheemullah, M.D.

"Honor Rahimullah It really happy to have A. On the show we've known omair out, of course, outside of work for quite some time as well. But I, myself didn't know about all the really interesting area of expertise that he dabbles in omair is a clinical consultant at Lucid Lane which is a startup. He'll be talking about relevant to the topic at hand today, which is addiction. and Dr Amirah Hemas, a clinical assistant professor at Stanford University. School of Medicine and Director of the Addiction Medicine Consultant Service at Stanford Hospital. We're GONNA be talking a lot about addiction as expertise today. Given all the stressors that are happening in the world right now, armor is board certified in Addiction Medicine Internal Medicine, and he completed his training at Stanford University School of Medicine in his internal medicine training at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. So as I said, his specialization as OPIOID, N., Benzodiazepine take. Notice that tapers off. You'RE GONNA have to educate us on on the right promotional US now say. We call it the Golden Ben Zozo Okay Ben says, and treating substance use disorders in residential and outpatient programs as well as in patient and office based setting. You're welcome super interesting to talk about this very important although under not as much talked about topic. So really important and interesting to dive into that. Thanks for having me Yeah and Omer touched on this or alluded to this Excuse me I'm we obviously know you personally out beyond just having you on the show full disclosure armour's my cousin and I think, Omer, you've got an interesting sort of linked to armor as well. Raise your brother in law and armor Western. Or Medical School they went med school together. That's right. My brother-in-law they went to med school together and. we live we all live in the bay area, of course. Ten to happen with this show but Yeah. Of course, you know my I live right across the bridge from Stanford in Amer works at Stanford. So but but again, really interesting really really interested to dive into some of these talks I didn't even didn't even I didn't even know all these things about her so Yeah. Yeah for sure for sure. Absolutely and as we often like to do err on you know I guess tell us a little bit about yourself Obviously we we we heard University of Illinois being mentioned there You are originally from Chicago Illinois maybe talk a little bit about your background, and then we can get into your professional life. Sure. Absolutely. So So you know born and raised in the Chicago. Land area. We moved out here a couple years ago to the Bay Area California, to pursue some extra training and addiction medicine and started working at Stanford, you know loved the weather and the work I was doing out here and I stayed on to launch an addiction consult service at Stanford. Hospital. Addiction concert services are a way of intervening and increasing access to addiction treatment in the hospital setting. So for example, you know we have a drug overdose epidemic you'll have things like drug courts because people with addictions commonly get arrested for things are run. INS with the law so they'll have drug courts where they'll have. treatment associated with these Felonies her charges that people get such this. It's this concept of intervening where there's a large population of drug addicts and people with alcohol problems. Save the hospital people with addictions also have a higher prevalence of higher incidents of hospitalization. So by intervening at the hospital level rate to. Intervene on a large concentrated population of people with addiction. So we we go in and we talked to people in the hospital who have a medical consequence of their addiction, and this is you know crystal meth heroin, alcohol cannabis issues as well. So psychiatric complications of their addiction or medical complications of their addiction, and they're really in more reachable and teachable moment just like you know after they have a legal consequence with the drug courts, there are much more reachable and teachable moment. So in the hospital we come in, we'll do a brief intervention get your family involved, get them started on treatment therapy medications, and then linked them to ongoing treatments. It's really new, cut a model, but it's rapidly increasing all over the country to address it's the idea of their. They've Kinda hit this low and you're kind of turn the leverage that low point to and make into a turn around moment, right? Absolutely. Absolutely. A lot of our patients are just going on about their business. Some of them have been thinking about salvaging and alcohol for some time others not even a thought, but once they come to the hospital. Their lives are such somewhat disrupted, and now they are in the hospital away from drugs and alcohol minds clearing up a little bit and in some sort of pain and suffering from their medical consequence. So now they're a little bit more teachable, reachable, frustrated, sick, and tired of being sick and tired. Then we come in and tell us and we start to have a real collaborative patient centered discussion and go from there.

Can the Midwest expect more derechos?

"That durant show that tour across Iowa and Illinois August tenth flattened as much as fourteen million acres of cropland seventy to one hundred plus mile an hour winds blew down trees and power lines more than half a million islands lost power some for more than a week. The word the ratio means straight ahead in. Spanish these massive straight line wind events travel more than two hundred and fifty miles and produce wind gusts over. Seventy five miles an hour. Why is the Upper Midwest climatological hotspot for these massive windstorms that howl for hundreds of Miles Victor Seaney is a professor with Northern Illinois University specializing in severe storms. Hi Victor Welcome to climate cast. Thanks for having me on. Paul what stands out to you about that August tenth Rachel probably the number of wind reports that we had over seventy five miles per hour usually when these jobs occurred you. Can get widespread fifty to sixty mile per hour winds. But as we saw in several cities in Eastern, Iowa in Northern Illinois and even into the Chicago land area, this particular day Joe was producing winds in excess along its path of seventy five miles per hour. Obviously, the wind speed gets higher. So does the damage we all know about Tornado Alley and there's also a higher donate show frequency there but the radio frequency is Also high here in the Upper Midwest and the southern Great Lakes right it is an actually if you had to pick one city on the map that experiences more durations than anywhere else in the United States, it would be sort of Rockford Illinois Northern Illinois here is really ground zero for the shows and it really goes back to the ingredients that you need in order to get these types of long live windstorms we've. Had some historic data shows in the Upper Midwest? The Boundary Waters Blow Down Fourth of July nineteen ninety nine is something people here in Minnesota remember what is it about the summertime atmosphere over the Upper Midwest? That's conducive to durant chose well, for those of us who live up here in the summer we know it's the heat and humidity, and of course, you have heat and humidity present on many days in the summertime. But what really differentiates from a direct show, Dave versus a normal thunderstorm day are these bigger disturbances that moved through the atmosphere and a lot of vertical wind shear strong jetstream overhead that all comes together to create a very favorable atmosphere for these rages. The bulk of evidence seems to suggest that climate change doesn't show strong links to the intensity of d'auray chose why is that? It's not that it doesn't show strong relationships is. That it's sort of unknown in that we have a lot of errors right now with our experiments in the models that we have that can project into the future the potential changes. Our best guess right now is that the amount of days that we're going to have in the future that having this extreme heat and humidity will increase, but it's sort of unclear if that's GONNA translate to more of these types of Drake Joe. Windstorms is there any evidence that Rachel climatology could shift northward as the climate warms there are certainly studies out there that show northward shift in what we call the mid latitude jetstream and these types of phenomenon in theory should shift with that northward shifting jet. Again, these are attribution type of studies that will need to be retested in the future and continue to be tested with new data before I think we can say anything. More robust about what we're going to expect with these types of storms. I don't think there's a rating system for Rachel's how would you rate that one that crossed Iowa into Illinois on August tenth this particular Drake Shift you had to ask me is probably one intend to one in fifteen year event across the Midwest Professor Victor Jen, Seaney with Northern Illinois University. Thanks so much for being on climate cast today. Thanks for having me.

Mayor Lightfoot on how Chicago is handling the coronavirus pandemic

"Have Chicago's mayor Lori Lightfoot on with us to discuss how she in the city are handling the corona virus here in Chicago land so first up mayor thank you for joining us how do you feel the city is handling this stay at home water that we're all going through I think most people are biting tyrant by the time the governor analogy order last Friday which seems like a while ago I think we have done a number of other measures really compared down activities so I hope it wasn't a tremendous jolt to you folks but I know it's different it's different to think about working from home it's different I think about not being able to go out and enjoy all the rich cultural life of the city that makes a difference in people's lives but I think by and large people understand that this is essentially effort being made to the lawn integration that we really slow the spread of the virus is to bend the curve in the right direction so what can we still do in the big question I think a lot of people are confused about how do we know we're violating the stay at home order we don't believe that you're safer homes and want to make sure that people are staying inside as much as possible we also recognize that you need to go out and do things like walk your dog in the grocery store there may be some emergency things that you need to take care of that's real life and we understand that people need to do that but we shouldn't do it with an eye towards not abiding by the stay at home order of our excursions out when your should be limited to really essential functions like grocery store by going to the pharmacy going to seek medical care otherwise you need to stay at home and look most of those are are used to being really busy and on the go and so this is a real adjustment but think about ways in which you can have a normal cadence of activities every day so do you think we're prepared for what might still be to come here in Chicago have we seen the worst of it we have not seen the worst of it yeah we're still on an upward trajectory so it's important for us to really be mindful of that fact the worst is now behind us yet but we're doing a lot of data analysis a lot of modeling to understand what the trajectory of this virus is also that we can continue to build the infrastructure we need for the worst case scenario we have a lot of plans in place which really executing on top it's on blue three main areas health care problems that is health care workers so she's pondered on the road most vulnerable people in our city and building infrastructure to support all those segments in addition to that picky about what we can do to shore up the local economy particularly in the service workers like restaurants hotels and other services are services that we take for granted but really been significantly impacted by the shop please close using shut down but we do have plans to retire in four car thieves all year long so when this **** we started to get back in January we immediately started activating a number of those plans and we've been scaling up all along what do you plan to do for the hospitality industry restaurants hotels that are suffering here in the city all the hospitality workers were the people that we had in our first in our minds when we stood up the Chicago small business resiliency fund and the aim there is to get money quickly in the hands of the small businesses so they can shore up their payroll Dr any cash shortages because we knew that that was critically important so we can avoid mass layoffs that's what we've really been focused on yeah are you getting the cooperation you need from the state and federal government I would say that we have real really seamless call corporation here in Illinois so at the local level county level the state level all we are all children of principle the principle level but also at the staff level in Ben Bailey communications according I think quite well I can't say that we're getting help from the federal government it was very clear to me by mid January following the white houses the version order meaning planes that were coming from China would be diverted to seven major airports o'hare being one of them in my conversations with federal officials on during that time it was really clear to me that they were about organizing we're not prepared and that we could not wait for them to call that's why we stepped up here in Chicago and on absolutely everything that we can to be as prepared as possible

So there's some stuff we're looking at this morning, and let's bring in motion. Who is the director of public affairs at triple a bet. Good morning. Thank you for taking time this morning. How are you? Good morning. Thank you for having me. I'm good. Thank you. How are you? I'm excellent. It looks like we're going to have a very busy holiday season. Triple A is forecasting that more than one third of Americans are going to travel, and we're going to see an uptick planes cars automobiles the whole thing. It's like the movie here. Everybody's going somewhere for the holidays. Yes. Seems to be going somewhere. You mentioned one third of Americans are travelling, and that's a record record that we have seen. So as you mentioned airports will be very busy roads will be very busy as well. And what are you guys? Consider the actual holiday season of people are trying to perhaps prepare maybe leave a little earlier leave a little later do something to avoid the travel. So we look at Saturday December twenty second through Tuesday January I is the the travel season. And what we're finding particularly for those people who are flying is that most people are leaving a couple days before Christmas and then coming home a couple of days after Christmas. I'm so that really seems to be the peak travel periods with everybody travelling here. But does that mean that on average hotel prices are up? I know that gas prices are down we can get to that in a second. But as far as if people are not staying with their family and friends how what what are the rates that people will be saying? So yes, the for both rental cars, and and for hotels are up just a little bit for rental cars. The average rate is about seventy six dollars a day. And then for hotels for what we call to diamond hotels. It's about one percent more than last year. And that's about one hundred and twenty two dollars per night. Interesting. So what are the factors that's contributing to this travel about this? Is it mainly the gas prices? Or is it also I guess the economy is is rolling along people have a little bit more money. Yes. Absolutely. Both of those things gas prices are down here at Chicago land in about three dollars and thirty nine cents or so, and that's that's down almost thirty cents from where we were this time last year. But also the economy is very very strong. Consumer spending is up the housing market escape. Oh, people feel very stable and their jobs until they're they're more disposable income. And they're out there spending that money on travel does. Specifically compared to other states as far as the uptick in the travel this this what's called the holiday period. Here. Are we are are people that we live next to hear about the we traveling more on average across the US. Traveling more than let's say, our neighbors in Indiana. But that might just be because we have more people here. But in general, they increases in Illinois number of Illinois travelers, and what we're seeing in Illinois is about five point eight million people are traveling with the increases are right in line with the number of people who are traveling both nationally and in in specific states, like Michigan, Wisconsin or even in Vienna. All right. Let's tight here team. Let's bring Beth back after a quick time. Timeout am curious where people are going for their warm weather destinations and apparently more people taking cruises as well. So wanna ask about why that is occurring? It's interesting that industry is having an uptick as well as deers antigens off this morning. My name is Mark Harmon. We are sitting in on the opening bell.
