"Call that nineteen pandemic that's Monday night and every weeknight at ten thirty on WG the mean that's working its way around the globe today among others is this one day two without sports found a lady sitting on my couch currently she's my wife seems very nice my brother sent that to me others have as well at the Sharon reports for the daily line she's in charge of that joint if I'm not mistaken hi heather how are you I'm good John Terry L. good what's your title over there heather I am a managing editor and city hall reporter but you can you know certainly refer to me as queen heather I will answer to that it's a subscription service but there's also a free version of it in its local news and it's done by some of the best people in the city what are you hearing about the election today well about ten percent of polling places did not open as scheduled at six AM and it was a combination of things one some number that we aren't sure of of election judges and poll workers did not show up it gets what this morning and nearly two hundred polling places had to be moved from sensitive locations like senior centers and nursing homes to other locations which meant that they had to move all the voting equipment from that location to the new location and that apparently did not go smoothly in some cases and all that plus comparing about being bad for your health to simply stand in line this morning I have been extremely low voter turnout I read and repeated on the radio I should've kept the documents so I was sure about it heather but that if we wanted to change the voting day today would not be a snap by the governor it would require a change in the laws that true do you know much about that it would have taken an action by the General Assembly signed into law by governor press skirt to change the election and if you remember the General Assembly canceled fashion which would have been helped last week even before the World Health Organization declared that coronavirus what a true up and down back however at the headline I think out of that call this morning with the Chicago board of elections spokesman Jim Allen if that Chicago board of elections act governor JB Pritzker to call off in person voting today to close all the polling places and to complete both with by mail election and that request was rejected we've been hearing sort of rumors about that whispers about that but today was the first time that the Chicago board election commissioners you know take knowledge that they had asked to do that we have asked the governor's office the response but have not yet heard back so I guess technically that doesn't cancel the election but it moves down the road I could say I don't have to vote today which is what the C. B. wanted and I would be able to vote by mail next week for instance right I think it could have been a combination of different things that could have allowed more applications for mail ballots and they could have extended the deadline could those ballots postmarked M. and returning to the board of elections but this is uncharted territory and this is truly truly an non profit situation I'm hearing a lot of angry people about this what are you hearing heather yes people are furious because that the governor had been very consistent that you know our democracy has to be protected that building you need to go on that it would be to go to the polls that poll workers would take precautions in terms of the enticing different equipment I voted in person yesterday at the park ridge senior center which was cold and it it took about a half hour which is much longer than it ever taken in the past but it was very quick very easy but that was just after the president asked people not to gather in groups of more than ten people there are certainly more than ten people in that room and I think that that has really changed the calculus of perhaps what should have happened today as opposed to what did happen today a political question for you then I'll let you go heather Sharon you want to subscribe to the daily line and you should daily line dot is it done next how do I get that at that's right the daily wine dot net and put the words in front of the right heather so what are the political ramifications for the governor I mean it's not like his name's on the ballot right now what's the consequence to him for all of this well that's gonna be an interesting question because they were certainly his call at this point as we understand it not ask the General Assembly or go to court to postpone the election I think people talking a little bit about what we seen in Ohio in the last twenty four hours on end you will ultimately have to answer for that decision and you know god forbid that there is an increasing spread of corona virus perhaps hi voting I you know at this point like I said you know this is a situation that Alexion officials have never faced that yesterday to Mellon told reporters that this was shaping up to be the most difficult election for Chicago in a hundred years and I think it is can twenty two by my count I think that that prediction has proven to be true if the numbers are suppressed as that helped him fox you know that's interesting because typically if you think there's a low turnout election that helps the incumbent however I think we've all seen the limits of conventional with them in the last day for years now so I would be reluctant to put any money on that but we'll we'll see what happens all right heather it's good to hear your voice keep doing the reporting you and your staff do the daily line dot net daily line dot net heather Sharon you could pay for it do you want the premium service you can get it for free of the stripped down version of it it's all very good thanks heather thanks John take care she's one of the participating voices in our weekly mincing rascals podcast John the baby's born this year will not be called colonials they'll be called quarantines maybe when the colonials get past the age of twelve they'll be known as quarantines I'm not so sure by the way that this is like we won the Super Bowl nine months later there's a baby boom are you all look at each other going you know the virus is out there but we're in here I don't know if I don't know if that's the vibe I don't know if that's what's going on in the Vandervell Burr trend Williams houses of the world I'm not sure of course I'm not into reproducing age anyway I'll stop talking about this I don't look at us I'm not sure that this is just the sort of you know snowy Christmas that sometimes leads to baby booms down the road when the cubs won the World Series by golly there were a lot of kids born nine months later I think but I'm just not sure this is one of those things I don't know how glad to hunker down you know maybe liquor still in the house I'm sure which I wanna know how liquor stores or during a hundred about that one sector that is surprisingly doing surprisingly well and I'd like you to call if you can comment on this three one two nine eight one seven two hundred gun stores gun sales across America the reporting I'm seeing on CNN some of the sites is pretty good I suppose on some psychological level that makes sense doesn't really you know if you just break it down make perfect sense you're not going to shoot the virus and no one's coming to Getcha but I think when you feel defensive you get ready to defend yourself or not zombies so I don't quite understand I don't know that maybe a version of this role are walking down the street wow John I watched contagion to get my mind off of this ha ha you're really similar John it says here from Michael who is on my Facebook page on WGN King John on Facebook I heard U. S. doctor most about the hold your breath advice circling the internet there's an idea that if you hold your breath for I don't know a minute I don't know it was it was a long time some of us can't we pass out of some of the state that but you're supposed to hold your breath and then if you call after couldn't Kerr for you felt congestion in your lungs and that means you have the virus it was a self check to see if you have the virus and headed to holding your breath and he said well that's preposterous but now there's another one I wish you'd ask him about next time that heating the nasal passages to a hundred and thirty three degrees can kill the virus and will do the same for cold germs in the nose and sinus okay I'm gonna guess that's not true and burn all the hairs in your nose and I'm not exactly sure how you can get your nose up to one thirty three in there anyway I guess you could microwave a poker and then just stick it up your nose but I really don't see it all right but we hear a WGN are not recommending that now not a good idea do not that dori said when asked what you're doing as you hunkered down to watch what if you discovered on your TV set or computer the good doctor and New Amsterdam Marty said I'd love to bathtubs over Broadway it's a documentary I talked about it and to some of the people that were in it yesterday I'm telling you if you watch bathtubs over Broadway on Netflix it's free you will thank me in the morning John I watched American factory after hearing you talk about it extremely interesting it really is watch dirty dozen said Joan Joan I didn't know you were going to watch it ed said we watched bathtubs over Broadway it looks great Michelle said I watch to make millions a lot of you are watching make millions and American idol said Maureen this season has tons of talent yet they're still doing that yeah I watched an episode of that last night because it's just light watching all my gosh could we use that yes and by the way is always extraordinary play list I'm not sure how you're watching it so we watched it last night and there was a song telling five hundred miles are you thought about this is what I didn't know that's why you always tell me the episode I did not see yet which was last night I'm looking at my producer we've got to take it all right okay they will play the song after the break is that right producer L. if she says yes well you're going to be thankful you heard the song remember at eleven thirty five this morning or so give or take a few minutes tune into the virtual St Patrick's day parade you can go to the parade in Chicago this year it would have been well today St Patrick's day but in a weekend of celebrations but we're going to bring it to you at eleven thirty five.

"Don't see it especially considering the fine folks at the FBI aren't currently being paid. That's another story. We're working, right? All four o'clock, we get into kind of some of the impact of the government shutdown on law enforcement FBI the US attorney's office and the courts, did you know that the federal courts are going to run out of money on Friday. And then what do they do? So. Faces civil there will be no new civil cases that are tried after Friday. So if you have a court date. Yes. I already they've delayed more than a thousand civil court cases involving the government. So if you know, you're suing social security or the is taking action to get somebody in its in court more than a thousand of those cases have been suspended because they've tried to cut back on the caseload is the money his his run out if federal courts across the country, but yes, specifically here in Chicago one thousand cases have been delayed and told criminal jury cases will continue sorry at Burke. But jurors will not be paid. I mean, so the the guys are going together showing up every day, the FBI am not had a paycheck in two weeks. Yeah, they will raise their second paycheck at the end of this week. Imagine that. Not easy. Well, but under any circumstances when Donald Trump talks about how to worry about it. You're patriots you doing it for the right reason, unless people cannot make it well, you know, what I worry about is somebody who who is a sensitive security position. You say somebody works for the TSA or somebody who works for the FBI. Right. One of the first questions that the government asks when they're hiring. You is are you currently under any type of financial pressure. Right. They do a credit check on you. Because they know somebody who is in serious financial trouble is vulnerable to corruption. And it is the government. Now, putting the people who we rely on for our safety and security of flying in law enforcement. They are putting those people under serious financial duress. Now. The vast vast majority are great people would never succumb to you any type of outside influence or pressure. But we all know that if you're under financial pressure and somebody comes to you and says, hey, I need you to do this thing. And I'll make it go away or that can be tough. Yeah. Right. Imagine that somebody under financial pressure. Who is wants to lead the nation. Also needs to get a deal done in some other country. Throw what I mean? Imagine. I cannot imagine something like that happening. I just can't imagine it. All right. Thank you very much. Appreciate it. Ben bradlee.
