"I think you hope that. Hey skin and takes another stab and a healthy tyler sagan since he was so just beat up during the postseason full healthy stabbing out of him and income to the playoffs. And maybe you can get over that that last hump that they weren't able to i mean they're close. They were close two years ago. They took saint louis. Which eventually you know won the stanley cup to to a game. Seven Obviously they were in the stanley cup. Final last year in kind of run out of gas so i. It's hard for them to really say you know we can just tear down. I just feel like their windows. Really really close to closing at this point. Going to be tough to get as far as they did another detroit red wings They were obviously Just awful last year finished with a top odds for the number one overall pick ended up picking number four a day should at be something above abhorrent this year because they added a lot of decent veteran players like former night. John merrill and goaltender. Thomas greiss from the islanders draft man. You know you know they're going for law for near the e tank. This was the year to do it. Because if you look at the twenty twenty one draft it's scattered all over. The place is not like a guy that she would tank for. And then what they ended up like fourth and nothing against lucas raymond. I think who they ended up with the but like you know i. It's not the plan. I'm sure they're going to be bad for a couple more years. And there's not a whole lot stephen can do but i if i'm if i'm a red wings sam i feel good about the direction. They're going draft picks in some of the moves that is made now the edmonton oilers lost in the play in round. Two chicago blackhawks. After kind of a surprising nicer for them a question they have a decent Of adding guys like kyle tourists at forward tyson vary on defense. But why did they stick with a mike. Smith meco coskun goalie tandem. Because those guys were just a court against the chicago blackhawks in the bubble. It's a good question. I mean i don't know maybe they didn't want to go after mark. Stroman what some of the situations were with their interest in me. No maybe a few of the goaltenders that were available during this off season but it does feel like they need upgrade. Their mike smith only getting older koskinen while it feels like he's serviceable hasn't shown that he can really carry the load in the playoffs or anything like that. If felt like that was the one area that they really needed to upgrade in. They didn't so. I don't know if that means they take a step back but i have a hard time seeing how they take a step forward agreed a also speaking goaltending. We'll talk about the florida. Panthers who need to get sergei brodsky back on track. He is the second most expensive goaltender by avian. The nhl and his goals against average started with a three last year..

"They got to showcase skills that we may not have otherwise seen. If we weren't in a situation. Any long story short while yes. It's important to focus on your job I think it's more important to focus on yourself and the people you share your time with. I mean anyone that's sports. They know like your co workers are your family. You know my group team at the bucks we had a same. Individually we suck. But together, we're all right. Made. I'm even looking at a custom painting that Mitee made for me as a going away present with that phrase and. While it's meant to be funny light hearted like. We took heart the power togetherness and it's my daily reminder to just be there for the people that are important to you. Actually think. Okay. So let's dig into this because I actually think. A lot of times people will try to tell me oh I i. don't WanNa work in sales sales in my thing or I don't want to be cold calling I. Don't want to be doing this and even when I try to tell Mike sales are where there's a lot of jobs. But also let's forget about that for a second listen to the culture that you're talking about listening to the environment you're expressing and sharing. Like this is a great work environment and people like don't realise, don't understand how to cherish what it's like to work with this sales group like this is so supportive. But also like think about the things that you just listed off like that's fun like what kind of jobs exhibit that kind of an atmosphere culture like how important is it for you as a manager to keep pushing culture as a part of the workforce? It's everything. I. Mean You. You can't create culture. You can hopefully create an atmosphere where happens on its own. And I mean, yes, we're in sales. So we have quotas in deadlines, angles that we have to hit, and there is a stress that comes with a lot of rejection In. So we know that so you have to counter it in. You have to bring people up in boost up, prepare them as much as possible but you also gotTa make him laugh. And you gotTa reward and recognize people for doing good work and sometimes that is like straight up just giving rewards acknowledgment. Sometimes, it's doing something silly and fun. And I think if you can find the balance between the two, you're going to have an environment that everybody wants to being a nobody wants to leave. I mean even during. A situation like this, where times in be tough, they can seem overwhelming You also have a sense that my team has now back and they know got, and we're we're gonNA get through this. Let's finish up with this. The final section of your article you talked about a commitment to act, and you also make clear and that your your suggestion to control the controllables and I think that's important concept. It's something we talk about a lot and stress as well. How important is that idea in your mind to stay focused on what you can accomplish versus what is out of your control? I mean I can't stress that enough. Let's think outside a sports for a second. There is so much happening in the world right now with you know health and safety concerns in job loss, financial certainty politics and social justice reform it can get overwhelming it can consume you if you let it. So. You want to control the things you can control to get yourself through it. I think it goes back to what we talked about earlier with prioritizing. What is important to you in your life in your job and then what are the necessary steps you have to take to make sure you meet those priorities? So my approach has been like if I can break those down into smaller things that I can tackle a little bit each day. I can get through each day. Yeah. Usually, get through the smile on my face in that can look forward to the day ahead. Yeah, I've been trying every day to give myself at the beginning today I. write down four or five things I can accomplish these four or five things today was successful and if I had much more than that grace or if other things come up and to handle so be it. But if I get these done, we're off to a good start at eight. Those kind of moments to say. I was productive today I was successful today and give yourself a pat on the back for that. It's easy to get overwhelmed by everything right now and when you focus on what you can control you just you feel like you got your arms around a little bit better right i. Also, give yourself a password wild. Afternoon. In sports nuts the definition I mean things come up all the time things change in Uganda pivot. So the four things I wanted to do today I'm not going to get to them, but I'm not gonNA. Forget about him either like I'll. I'm just re shifting what I focus on. Carless as great as I knew, it would be thanks again for jumping in here our first guest in our three hundred guests. So this is pretty amazing to have you back on again such great information for all of our audience and I guess I mean need. We'll have you back before episode six, hundred and. We won't wait that long next time but congratulations everything with the Blackhawks and Good luck with getting everything back to normal. Thank you I. Really appreciate that all the best to you and your family keep up the incredible work. Thank you for having me back and thanks for all you do for all of us that are fortunate enough to call this our career in our industry. Thanks man. Thank you Carl for coming on the show again, I really have a great connection with Carl when he and I pick up and talk again, it always feels like just you know getting into a good friendly conversation and really supporting one another in our messages and our goals to help others Carl is one of those people and you'll find them in your career and in your life who genuinely wants to help and I think that's such an important thing to tap into and I. Hope all of you are connected with him in Lincoln the on link then even.

"Okay Jason Time for your prediction. Predictions I wanted to say there was such an easy prediction I missed and it came true today. So. Today, the Miami Marlins had fourteen players and staff has positive. That was so predictable that was so predictable and I'm so upset the major league baseball just I I don't know if they assumed it wouldn't happen I. Don't know if they thought that by the will of God, they'd be able to have a sixty game season and. This is so predictable and so foreseeable and I'm so upset that I didn't predict this because now. What happened And it's just it's ridiculous I. Don't I. Do not have enough words to describe how annoying it is from a fan standpoint to see the NBA. Can can procure this bubble. The NHL can pure bubble but the MLB players association was so damn against a bubble, and now we are three games into a season and one team is going to have to feel a team tomorrow of all guys who have not played a major league baseball game before and half of their staff who have not coached in Major League Baseball Games before and Major League baseball shot themselves in the foot, the shot and selves in the foot. So. Anyway, my three prediction. I'm going to say that the NBA finishes season easily. It's been so far so good in the bubble there was the incident with Lou Williams leaving an ongoing to magic city, which has become a big joke on twitter, but it's really not funny. It's really not funny because if he sneaks back into the bubble and doesn't tell anyone that happened, you're putting lives at risk so I'm going to say that. Mba caught that early enough it's not gonNA happen again. NBA going to start and finish. The season will be a lot of fun. Okay. My second prediction, I'm going to say that. I'm going to back up on my prediction last episode and say that there will be a college football season bought it'll be abbreviated and not everyone's going to play. I. Think that. Some conferences you're going to play some won't. Some teams are going to cut the season short. It won't be an authentic college football season, but we'll still see guys out in the field hitting each other and cutting catching passes. So that excites everybody and then finally, I'm going to say this is a non sports action I'm going to say that. The majority of us that are going away to school are back home by Columbus Day. I do not just the more I think about it. The less doable I think that school is because you're bringing in my case. Thousands of people forty, five, thousand people into one area, and you can test them. All you want be you're not going to be able to control what people do when they are not obligated to be in class at that time, people are going to leave the cities or the college towns people are going to go home. People are going to do things that put their wellbeing and therefore the wellbeing of their. Roommates and people living in their dorms and people that go to the school people at the shop they go to the restaurants everything putting everybody's lives and wellbeing at risk I. Just don't think it's doable their way too many moving parts, and if you're having a hard time getting professional athletes to listen, you're going to have a really hard time getting college students to listen. So that's my prediction. It sucks. It's. But. I'm just going to be straight up and be realistic I really. Hope. I'm wrong on this one I really hope I'm wrong on this one. I just don't think it's possible. Well. I don't even know what to say that just gave me a that's a bummer I I hate the idea of you coming home. Ready to get me out of here. Here's my final thoughts. You know I told you this before I grew up watching the blackhawks on little black and white TV that was in our kitchen. Our family kitchen on Odell Avenue northwest side of Chicago I. Remember specifically Saturday Night Games. I'm not sure why I remember that but. I think they were on Wgn TV and you would wait to see bobby hull and Stan Mikita. Walking up the steps that were from the lower bowels of the old Chicago, stadium where their locker room was up to the Ice Tonio would already be out there in net for warm-ups There was so much drama to it with the music the Blackhawks Song playing in everything I didn't understand the game but I loved the speed of the fast pace. It was the middle of winter in Chicago and it gave you something to cheer for. Then hockey kind of just went away like we were talking about for so many in Chicago it became so irrelevant. Until Nineteen ninety-two Chellios in JR Jeremy Roenick. It became a personality driven again with a really good team. They helped sell the game of hockey again but eighteen years than of mediocrity again and hurt the franchise and they came back they rose up from like a Phoenix from the ashes thanks to tapes in Kane and embarrassed Patrick Sharp. Campbell Buffalo and once again, we were all watching the games with the family and that's what sports is supposed to do. Give you memories gives you something to cheer for take you away from whatever else is going on in your. Life, it's your escaped, and that family time has been so precious to all of us growing up because you get to watch your kids become a fan as well, and so with sports returning in at least them trying to return during Cova, my hope is that it is here to stay. My hope is that it brings families together again gives them things to talk about gives Jason is something to talk about on the phone when he's away at college and. Makes some new fans of maybe some new teams and maybe a new sport as well. So thank you to the Chicago Blackhawks because that's what you did for us as a family, and now you can get back to winning. Thank you to the Chicago. Blackhawks. Brian. Campbell you can find him on twitter at B Campbell underscore fifty-one. Also I'm Blackhawks TV and Colin Frazier as well. Also working as a Western emitter scout for the Blackhawks. Thank you so much for helping us. Look back on the greatest season ever you all for listening. "Debut Ford Jonathan. Giving the Blackhawks. We all know Kim done. His whole career really hasn't even slowed down at all Again, I said earlier 'cause your myself special lucky. A crevice play with players that are are that good and people always asking me like what like what sets these guys apart and guys like those guys in Austin Duncan Keith and the list goes on. There like real to win and there will be the best is like through the roof and you can't. Hot. How. Hard we were in and how good they WANNA. Be to play at that level. They're just motivated guys. They're motivated right from eighteen years old. So, let's go to the infamous game winner by Kenner to capture the cup and that brilliant pass from number fifty one. Brian set us up, do even remember the sequence. On, back to be taken by PAM, here's Campbell handing on create again, lots had fixed their. saw. We saw no signal and we sure they've sent a signal. But they are celebrating at the end of the ice one. We have not seen a signal. From the rambler. Yeah. With the shot. Word has gotten to the blackhawks what you have just seen. Along years we'll finish. Not. Not right after I. Didn't remember it. I, think I remembered it like Still Remember, doing an autograph. For. At Dick's sporting goods bathrooms all done in somebody's right game winning assist on the Puck like why Mike I I like. I don't know for me. It was. We want yeah you know Kansas store but I kind of lacked from every sale. Or not. So I don't know it was just a simple play in calling those. This is something that depends were always trying to walk the line and doing it. with the POC. So You know should I shot it maybe maybe it would've probably wouldn't win in its calling those how hard Past to eighty eight this March choice. So he was calling for he wants it. It's amazing. How great of a player? He is a big moment. And when things are going the way, they they are just doesn't shy away from any moment that's out there. So. obviously make great move. Ryan. That sot though it was like it was like a Sidewinder League nobody saw Glenn it was it was side. Nobody. The puck where he shoots and everybody else is shooting Walker Short side trying to get it in that little hole nobody shoot were issue. Where he shot that block that's the thing that amazes me. You, know calling noses to we all of us other players would have. You know try to sneak in in between his arm and stuff but nobody goes five full like that sees that thought teeth how open it is or or that You know, and then everything went from there. That's why I looked up into the you're looking for the PUCK and the in the netting above and the ripple and the netting and all that. So. I it's quite amazing. You know like. You know how he thinks the game that way. Speaking the puck where's the puck right now? Who has? I mean I wish I did. I ever got to the bottom of that story. I don't know nobody knows. I hope I hope for somebody comes out later like in a few years from now tries to sell it. We know where it is I. Hope that happens. But who knows I have no idea. It was probably use it in practice is no no one? No one. Had like the the presence of mind to just grab it and light like hold it like the I feel like in baseball they always do that the final out somebody takes a ball and just stuff in their back pocket. So no just just sat in the net. Will they all went running down the opposite end over to Anti Emmy everyone ran like skated to the other side so it had to either be someone. Special someone had to take it. Someone has it in the story line it's funny because we were keeping every hock that we won the game kept the pocket and we had a thing going with with all the winds you need sixteen wins. And I don't know what game with the pronger took the pock on one of the winds game one game to whatever it was. So I don't know the storyline goes that they took it again i. don't think they actually did that but somebody. Somebody took the Fox With I duNno, it's not something that we were even really. Because, we know we. Not Concerned about it. Okay. You and I still don't think Philadelphia like if you lose the Stanley Cup final, are you really like I'm GonNa go get that they don't get it no. No chance that like. So if to me, I gotta be an arena person to me it's still has it. And they kept quiet I. Don't know who don't but I if I was that I keep quiet for two years and then He what happens with it or they? Didn't even know him. They threw it in the puck man and he hit. Somebody somewhere and they don't even know what the game winner I don't know. That's apparently that wasn't the only thing. Lost That night Colin what happened to your helmet? My helmet. That's a funny story I don't know how came to be, but we're all partying and drinking beers and whatever and I didn't even know and then so we get back Chicago them start a day to two days. Later, the trainers unpack her bag of course, my helmets missing while turns out. I get. I don't know number years later honestly, like probably six seven years later I get this package in the mail. And it's my helmet with a pitcher of Patrick, Kane bodies. So we're out parties. On. One. And it ended up back in buffalo with a one layer. And I don't. But he ended up. I hope the helmet, my house. Oh Gosh the only thing that would have made that better as if it was on a Cabbie's head or something that would have been even better. Probably one point. I know. Guys there's like, what are you guys doing like? You guys tell us. Honestly I wasn't a turned about it. It wasn't something that I really ever even cross my mind until the package showed up and then I had a pretty good laugh. It was pretty funny. I want to ask about the upcoming NHL, Restart I. Personally I love it I. Love that right out of the gate that Games are going to matter in baseball. It's not the case in the NBA. The Games aren't really going to matter at the Star I love the fact that right out of the gate, we're going to see hockey the matter. So I want to hear some thoughts on the restart blackhawks outlook, what you're looking forward to the most and how good it's going to feel to finally have hockey back. Yeah I'm excited to watch I'm excited for you know to watch it August I Tree Games a day it'll be a lot of dvr And a tape and these games but Hawks chances I was just thinking about their. They they definitely have some depth off the down those four lines. moving Kabbalah there to the third line and I think you know you you. You're going to see probably a better Kirby Doc throwing into his game. You know it's amazing. You've seen guys take steps from year to year two especially bigger guy.

"Jason joining us we've been talking about the two thousand ten, the greatest season in Chicago Blackhawks history. So we Kinda dial up a couple of our hockey friends and actually a couple of players from the two thousand and ten team former Defenseman Brian. Campbell is joining US along with Colin Frazier, former Blackhawks Center. Guys welcome to the sports caster and her son, and we are just reminiscing about the greatest season and Blackhawk history two, thousand, ten, both of you guys part of it and Let's start with Brian like. You're obviously the Stanley Cup is the greatest memory but when you think of the team what comes to mind about that squad. Probably like the year before and that year obviously it's Kinda like that group was kind of together for a couple of years I think it was just. Everybody had you know we a lot of young guys? I was older older for that team and I think it was just like we love to go on the road we love. Hanging out at home. It was kind of it was always just a team that would that always wanted to be around each other and you don't see that whole lot especially. Even in today's game with younger players. Young teams they still didn't do much team bonding and you know going out just whether it's going up for dinner or drinks or plant you know bowling whatever it is. It was always something that the guys wanted to do and be around each other. You know it's funny. You actually say that because I remember after the Third Cup win with the Blackhawks I said Oh. My Gosh guys are married. They have kids this is so different from two thousand ten because it was such a young team I don't know if anybody was married except maybe Marion Hosa I would it was such a young team Colin Woody remember about the guys on that team. Bryant. Hit the nail on the head for the Camaraderie was really through the roof and soupy. We signed him as a free agent but if you go back prior to if you go to the Three and four drafts specifically the Oh four one when you have. been. Fickle I can't even remember everyone got through that was like the core of your team. So go back to the minor leagues nor folk and rock was myself and brower. Bercy and Buffalo and and Boland, Corey Crawford and all these guys. So we were friends even you know three or four years prior to winning it in two thousand ten. So we kind of had this good Camaraderie Golan for a number of years. and. I mean Bryant you grow. Beers or meals or really anything we kinda for whatever reason a bunch of good personalities and everyone seemed to get along well, and we we fight like brothers to. But at the same time, we all respected each other everyone played hard and played for each other and I don't know we were able to kind of throw it all together and and win the win win a cop I go. I was only part of the twenty ten cup but I like I said it's the best one 'cause that makes me feel extra special better than the other. Blackhawks. Absolutely one of my favorite things about sports is hearing about like the championship moment of teams whether it be like the regular season or the playoffs when you Kinda know that you're going to win it all that year. So tell me about like. Did. You guys have that moment and if so when was it playoffs? Regular Season Stanley Cup final you know I think for me and and probably two times when I felt that. The one was a regular season. We're probably forty five games into the season team. We had a great team actually we had a really good team or plan not bad hockey, but we picked up. Hosa that summer shoulder surgery so he missed. The first forty semi games in the season, and then we played in San Jose and I know everybody remembers in see scores on a breakaway. We're all sitting on the bench like Oh, my gosh. Wow like. You. Know how good he was. You know how great he was. So. That was that was hit two goals that game I never remember anything about regular season really and I remember this time when he had two goals and. we were just like you know this is we're having misguided this lineup now pretty special and then. Another one is obviously won't be eight, four, I think they were. Kinda. Looks like the Goliath was like this seems like. They're better than us kind of thing and. We matched up well some, but to beat them four straight was pretty crazy in my mind from they were playing regular season in the playoffs and was that Kinda ruled into the Stanley Cup final series. I don't think we played our best hockey against billy but were we played good enough. To get the job done Colin went about you. I think yeah for me. So I, I got a couple of one I remember that was Hosa marrying hosted moment that he's talking about and. Haas he's like the guy that. Talks like underrated he really is I didn't know we just maybe not because he just went to the of fame, but he doesn't really get talked about enough for what he brought to to every team he played on. If you think about before the Hawks, he spent two years straight in the Stanley Cup finals and this is a guy that I feel very fortunate and lucky to. Chicago Blackhawks’ Dominik Kubalik named Calder Trophy finalist

"A record the podcast this week. We've seen some of the awards. Come down the pike. Including today's news that the calder trophy and Jack Adams award finalists are Quinn Hughes. Kelman, car and Dominic Kwalik for the caller and John Tortorella Bruce Cassidy and Elaine. For the Jack? Adams. Mike sold without a Jack Adams finalist. Kinda weird. He must not be nice to those broadcasters that given the time of day after skates something. A little, gruff or something, because honestly the thing about it. Is that like I? Don't know who kick out. For that. I'm really happy. Happy. Jesus I'm really happy. Cassidy made it I'm really happy. Cassidy made it because I feel like this award overlooks guys. That coach really good teams a lot. Yeah I think he's deserving of it, but I mean like. Tortorella did a great job in Wien. Yo You could point to and say there are tangible improvements. The flyers made under his watch I guess it might be. Even you know the guy you kick out for Sullivan, but I just I don't know Sullivan a really good job. This year I just wish I could have gotten into the top three.

Washington's NFL Team to Change Name After 87 Years

"Colorado's Morning news. Well, they don't know what their new name will be yet, but the NFL team in Washington no longer known as the red skins, the team is officially retiring the nick name and logo After major public pressure from fans and sponsors, Team owner Dan Schneider says the replacement will be announced in the coming weeks. So what do Native Americans think about the change? Let's get into that with Native Ways. Federation executive Director Carly Bad Heart Bull Goodman Me and Carly and thanks for joining us. Good morning. Thank you for having me. We should mention your group is focused on supporting Native American activism and education. So were you folks pushing for this name change? Absolutely are the members in our organization have been part of the movement for the native for this for this change in our native communities have have many folks and Leadership positions many native youth and particular native women across the country for decades now, Carly I'm curious, because I I think that you tell me it's more important what you think that it's the Redskins as a descriptive if they were the Washington If you want to, say native Americans, or even the Washington Indians, which we can talk more about that that would be a want to say, less offensive. It's the descriptive. It's like a majority visit. Not now, That's the biggest thing. It's not so much if they're honoring them. It's the fact that no, you don't use that term. The issue is that our people have been saying for again for decades that the name doesn't on arrest that term. Andi, I would add that There are other teams. There are other names, including some of the names that you lifted that were also were also not in favor of the issue is when you have a community that has been saying for for generations for decades that we are not honored by the use of these names that you need to listen. You need to listen when our community is saying that this is not representative of who we are. When you come from a community that is Is eatin a history of lack of representation of misrepresentation. It is really important to listen to us and to you hear us when we say that it's important for us, and it's important for our kids that Any representation that is out there in the media is adequate, not only adequate, but is also a celebrating who we are not Ah, stereo type, not You know, I'm misrepresentation or, you know, not making fun of who we are. Let's go through some of those names. The Atlanta Braves say they're not going to change their team moniker. Chicago Blackhawks. Kansas City Chiefs Cleveland Indians should they all change. You know? Yes. Honestly, I mean, I mean that, as far as I know, you know the Redskin Sorry. I hate even using that term. I shouldn't use that term. I should not even be saying that name. They haven't gone public with any information on what their new name with their new local will be accepted, say that they hope to honor native people and the military and so it's really important that we're having this further conversation. Because again, even though the Washington team is talking about changing the name, there's so much work yet to be done both with their name and with these other teams that you that you mentioned the remains concerning these communities about about what this means about the The history of Blanding in a way that that is said to honor native people. Even after community members leaders Jaime Time again have said that these names do not honor us. So we're hopeful that that you know a new name. A new logo with the national team will not continue this native imagery or thing or themes. We're hopeful that the team as well as these other teams will listen to native communities come back and talk to us. We have been saying for years on DH will come up with new branding altogether. You know, it's time to do the right thing. Otherwise, at some point, honestly, they're gonna have to do it all over again. That the you know, make the effort now and any abuse and this perpetuation He's racist stereotypes. Once it for all against

The Racial Justice Reckoning Over Sports Team Names Is Spreading

"Trump Trump weighed weighed in in this this week week on on the the Washington Washington NFL NFL team team and and the the Cleveland Cleveland Indians Indians baseball baseball team. team. Considering Considering changing changing their their names, names, names that native Americans have long said are racist. Both franchises announced they're reviewing their names and changes maybe coming before. 2020 NFL and Major League Baseball season's begin perspectives producer ABC is Eric Mollo has more with America In the midst of a reckoning over racial inequality. More athletes are continuing to speak out across the sports world. By noon, Stanford was right. Arizona Cardinals quarterback Cuyler Murray announcing he'll be taking any during the playing of the national anthem this year, one of several players pledging to stand in solidarity with former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who knelt during the playing of the national anthem to protest police brutality and social injustice. Erica. Over the past week, There's been another reckoning in sports, whether to change team names or logos that contain Native American emblems. In stereotypes. There is time to Move for Major League Baseball's Cleveland Indians announced they're considering changing the team's name manager Terry Francona feels now is an appropriate time for change Older. We're never trying to be disrespectful. I still feel that way, but I don't think that's a good enough answer. Today. The announcement comes a little over a year after Cleveland removed its chief Wahoo logo, a cartoonish caricature of a native American man long considered racist. It also came shortly after the announcement at Washington's NFL franchises weighing whether to change its team name, which is widely regarded as a racial slur. Julian Brave Noise Cat contributes to ESPN is the undefeated He writes that the team name references Native American skin color. In the bloody scouts of indigenous People taken his bounty by white colonists. If a group of people are speaking out about the racism of a team logo, it's It's quite the thing to go and claim that actually know you are honoring them, and it's hard for me to imagine the same thing happening for another racial group in the United States. Team owner Dan Snyder has bound for years. He never changed the name. Saying the term actually embodies honor, respect and pride. Protesters and advocacy groups have called for change for decades. But on ly in the face of mounting economic pressure did Snyder finally announced they're reconsidering investors with major sponsors from Pepsi. FedEx in Nike sent letters asking the companies to terminate their relationship with Washington unless it agreed to a name change, which you know kind of exciting on the one hand, but the reality it reveals about the power of capital. In our culture and society is a little bit of a downer for me. But those two franchises don't stand alone. A world without native mascots is the ideal world. Nick Marin is a member of this a pony tribe in a staff writer for the New Republic any kind of imagery like that and specifically as it relates to native people, because we have been made invisible, forcibly the idea that we would You get rid of the walking Jim NFL team and keep the Kansas City Chiefs It speaks a certain hollowness that I think this kind of corporate social justice campaigns often involve the Kansas City Chiefs. Atlanta Braves in Chicago Blackhawks are among professional franchises that continue to employ Native American imagery on their jerseys in their team names and in cheers by fans has become a very normalized thing, which I think is common place with a lot of systems and forms of institution. Oppression. These things we don't think of them in the moment as being particularly egregious because they've become so normalized in society. Those franchises aren't following the lead of Washington in Cleveland. None of them announce name changes, though Atlanta is reportedly considering no longer allowing the Tomahawk chop chance at games, and the Blackhawks went on to say that their team name and logo symbolizes an important native American figure. And they aren't moving toward formal change. It reduces you to a caricature there, 570 plus tribal nations. That's 570 plus tribal cultures. Any kind of idea that, like there is one kind of Indian is very reductionist kind of view of US. President Trump even weighed in this week via Twitter, saying the names of Washington's in Cleveland's teams Signify strength and not weakness, and they're merely considering the change to be politically correct. The president's statement in the very decisions of these franchises do raise questions isn't important to distinguish between the offensiveness of each individual team name, and is any of this iconography, actually honor or respect the Native Americans? Or in same team names and logos on our native people. Is that merely perpetuating cultural appropriation and the use of stereotypical Native American imagery, Martin says. It's not that slippery of a slope. If you're saying our mascot, our team name is not as racist as Washington NFL team still an admission that it is races, Washington's head coach, Ron Rivera, who is one of four minority head coaches in the NFL, told The Washington Post. It would be awesome if the team changed its name. In the National Congress of American Indians have long opposed the use of Native American stereotypical imagery in professional sports. As professional sports franchises are choosing to reexamine these issues in the midst of America's reckoning over race relations, they're faced with a new choice. Well, economic pressures determine if they choose to rename their teams or will they listen to decades long calls from Native American advocacy groups to eliminate the use of these emblems of the only reasons happening so swiftly is because their this is something that native people years of ground Work into and so what this moment kind of larger cultural reckoning has become. It's just kind of an impetus to say Okay, Now is the time to finally get rid of these things.

"We can't begin the show without talking about the biggest story to hit hockey since what out. Foster Scott Foster. Probably the Glorious Song I don't know so. What was the last hockey story to get on the today? Show Leyla Anderson. Probably and you know what's interesting about it to me. I mentioned Scott Foster. Is that happened two years ago and one of the more interesting things the way he handled in the blackhawks handle is he got all these requests. He was asked to go on Jimmy Kimmel and the Today Show People magazine. And he turned it all down because he wanted to be about the franchise throat. Meanwhile Dave Ayers technically property of the Carolina Hurricanes Right now. We know they don't say Tom. I'm going to rename top golf. Airs Ball David Errors. Maybe the islanders would be just by the systems they play but Carolina basically saying you. Don't get the PUCK ANYMORE TO THE TORONTO. Maple leafs was something. That was entirely predictable in this. In this scenario my opinion I don't think the hurricanes got enough credit for this guy getting the win one hundred even like after the Game Rod. Rod brindamour comes into the locker room. Talk about how the team played in front of that guy for that guy. Four David eyres eight. Which is an incredible thing. And you know what I was just talking about. Who Remembering when his team had a goalie. That didn't show up. She showed up late so they they had to play six on five. I mean it was unbelievable to watch imagine if Michael Hutchinson head that Michael Hutchinson now property of the Colorado Avalanche. Because of course we're going to talk about the trade deadline. "For Chicago Blackhawks hockey final score tonight the wild win in overtime three to two on a Matt dumba goal at two twenty one feel over time frame for dumbo his fourth goal on the season assisted by Zuccarello and right I think try set at the bass the wild and earn this victory the way they played in the first two periods pretty hard to argue with that effort you know Bruce Boudreau wanted to see them close it out maybe help the boys pick up a shut out for their goaltender Alex stay locked I felt was very good in this game for at least two periods Blackhawks found a way to get to pastor in the third and at least salvage one point out of the game so over their last ten on the road the Blackhawks in my opinion an impressive eight one one record that seventeen out of a possible twenty points and it gets them back in the hunt so it's a it's a small knowing of ox to to find a way to get one in this one made a game where they've probably didn't deserve to get any points that they're lucky to be only down to nothing because the player Corey Crawford up to that point stay locked not tested through forty minutes Blackhawks finally got some traffic in front of the net made a little bit difficult for him I don't think he saw either one of the goals of rebel Questor Mada in the third period so much better job of what they had to do but maybe a lesson learned the GED you're lucky that you got to a point out of this one you didn't deserve it Minnesota deserve the two points but you can't play twenty minutes and expect to get some results out of it so the lesson is you know what if you're gonna play a good team like Boston tomorrow and you're gonna try and play twenty minutes the results are going to be in your favor all right so well final scores they said three two in favor the wild in overtime we're going to move it along my thanks to wait skews me folks we always forget this I got I need somebody to slap me in between so I'll be happy to have you here good give me awak snows anyway trace got to slow a little bit of business before we send it away to vote so the first choice equipment player of the game tonight in my mind I think everybody's mind was the player Corey Crawford he was excellent in this game gave up a couple goals during the the regulation time but Minnesota really had a lot of opportunities not able to get that big save the the finish the game off in overtime about thirty one saves this of for court Crawford gets him the first choice player of the game sponsored by first choice equipment Chicago's leader for Kubota skid steers excavators and track loaders visit first choice equipment dot com I think a very good choice one thing that Corey has been doing is getting points with his starts lately he's been getting points from the you know he's getting a little bit of help in front of them but only fifteen goals against the last seven games you know a basically an average of two and the extra one here tonight the Blackhawks did not play that over time period very well at all I mean they were all over the place no shots on goal five shots for Minnesota no structure some guys cheat and looking for some points there and sometimes you get him but you can't play that one is looses they did it and hope for good results mostly it they do tomorrow night great job by you with the color tonight we're going to move it along thanks to Troy Murray for an outstanding job with the color here tonight big thanks to our hall of fame engineer Mister Wayne Celine he crashes as I say that about him but we all know he's going to the engineers wing of the hockey hall of fame if there is such a thing thank you wing we're going to create one way I'll tell you because we got a couple great engineers in the slick including our own polls Arango will be working with tomorrow night thanks as well or hurt working crooner flagship station Chris the floor as along with Brett Jackson and Curtis coke thanks to the black truck fans it ventured up here to Saint Paul many of them here if you're listening on your WGN cell phone apps we thank you very much and we would encourage you to drive safely wherever you might be going we save our final thanks of the evening for a friend Chris Boden who got us your black **** central pre game through the intermissions and he's going to get you wherever you're going in the Blackhawks postgame show one more time all over time the final score it was the wild three in the hawks to from the Xcel energy center here in Saint Paul Minnesota thank you for thank you for listening this is John Wiedeman and this is been black **** sucking on seven twenty WGN Chris says postgame activities let's get it to him right now no rating Chris still eleven o'clock here on the Blackhawks postgame show after getting a point that may indeed be needed when all is said and done.

"Theorem type deal this year more so than I remember it Brady. I mean, I wanna say it's eight of the last nine that come in. Yeah. You love defined that type of thing. It was not long ago that we really started. Discover the over in the first period in hockey, how that was hitting all the time with the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Chicago Blackhawks and also John Murray on the show earlier said they were rooting hard for the Portland trailblazers tonight. They are currently leading the warriors outright one zero two to ninety nine with just nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. So looking to make the west gate happy. There are the Portland trailblazers going on that Richard badgen, Finley Toyota, out-of-town scoreboard, we will get you all those scores in the final twenty minutes as we'll come back from our final break, but we will let you know, the game's going right now, college basketball, hardwood, Colorado is taking care of business to forty to go. So Hurley's boys not able to. To follow up on the win over Washington in Tempe. They trailed sixty six fifty eight with two forty eight point deficit to climb back from in boulder. Sixty three sixty one Panish holding on for dear life is alma mater, Fresno. State leads Boise state by a deuce just five seconds to go. But looks like the Broncos will get the money unless it goes an extra five minutes and Stanford now is grabbed the lead against a very disappointing USC team sixty nine fifty six eight thirty nine to go Maples pavilion in the second half. Everything else is final as far as on the college. Hardwood will get all those scores. Anaheim still leads Vancouver one nothing. That's now after two periods. We gave you the Pittsburgh three one victory over Edmonton. The only two games.

"Posture. Not the crew Kotler right circle. They spread it out. A lot of open ice here crew working his way into Boston. That's block walk by James hands it over and it's clear down the ice by golf stroke the five on three now for the Boston Bruins after the big block by golf clear by the Chicago Blackhawks pass ahead group. Let's go to he'll walk it over, but it's napped away from through Marsha they'll have to regroup et cetera. Fifty four remaining on the Cain binder one thirty left on the eastern. Bob Varsha had walk right into camp etcetera and gave it away. Behind rask's, neck, not good details for the Bruins too, many isolated one on one place right now for them. Trying to get the puck in Persia. Iran has it at center turning away from such sneaking in left wing side got it onto Marquette. Now, they'll set it up at the left point got away from Saad worked at the crazy. In front of the net. They go to crude death it over to Marsh. Top of the right circle on top straightaways postured up. Look at gas. You keep the crazy in the left corner. Back the pasta dot H E in the left corner. Prey across by John right circle shoddy missed the short side. And that's not really the shot. You wanna take Brad Marchand playing on the off side the lefty taking the top one time from the right? The puck Kane is on. It's a five on four. Broke into the corner. They go back to slap shot just wide the net. From the near circle. But. Circle. Overskated Berge arrived along the boards. Final. David Krejci, really distributing the pot using the sauce past the ice to me looks to be playing very smooth, very flat, Billy. I'm seeing the puck fit nicely for the Bruins on this powerplay. Seems like you're getting a little shaved on it during the intermission looks real good. Got it out to set a pass the diesel, Bob, it's an icing call or an off-side call against the hawks by settled these are over no shots on the two man advantage. A major momentum swing here. Not only to the Bruins not score on.
