Hall of Fame Chicago Blackhawks Goalie Tony Esposito Dies at Age 78

"The Blackhawks lost one of their legends. The numbers retired. He's in the Hall of Fame. Do you know that Tony Esposito's last season? Was 1984? He still 10th all time in goalie winds in NHL history? Tonio is one of only 13 players in the history of the league to ever have at least 400 victories here. He was a trend center. He was one of the early pioneers of the butterfly style of goaltending, which is pretty. I mean, that's not pretty. I mean, is ubiquitous throughout the league today. I mean, the only way really goalies play. I guess. Some would argue that there is a It's a little bit of a hybrid. Maybe now more than seven. Um, but I mean, he was one of the early sort of pioneers of of that whole thing in that entire style where you got away from the stand up gold and you started. They started playing in the butterfly. Great, Great Black Hawk.

Edmonton Oilers Acquire Star Defenseman Duncan Keith From Chicago Blackhawks

"Have heard some rumors. Some reports that this deal was in the works, and now it appears to be done. Duncan Keith and also Blackhawks. Great, Of course, a huge piece to the three Stanley Cup winning recent Hawks teams adult to the Edmonton Oilers. It's It's not been made Official yet by the Blackhawks are the Oilers, but Multiple outlets reporting that Duncan Keith after 16 seasons with the Hawks is headed to Edmondson. In return free up younger should say Prospect he's played in the league, but the defenseman Caleb Jones, and a third round draft pick. Also a big part of that deal is Edmonton. Taking the rest of Duncan Keith salary, which is roughly $5 million off the cap this year, So that gives Stan Bowman a little bit more flexibility in what should be an already busy off season for the Hawks. "Clip from the from the closing press conference at the islanders lost the tampa bay lightning game seven mathew barzal with brock nelson At the podium really trying to keep it together and fighting back his emotions as best as he could never referencing veterans. Like andy greene see. I'm always interested in hearing young people talk about a stanley cup. Experience and older players talk about her stanley cup. Experience and the older players tend to generally cherish it more knowing how much it takes to get there and how long it takes and younger players. And we're talking to brad marchand hockey night in canada radio once After his bruins had won the stanley cup in two thousand eleven and it very much felt like in his voice in his mind. He thought well we're gonna win like three or four more of these things and he still still chasing it. Hearing mathew barzal talk the way that he did already at the age of twenty four is young guy he understands how getting there is really hard and he's been close a couple of times and listen to his voice in how he talks. You almost get the sense that he's wondering and my ever going to get this close again. What did you think of ourselves presser. You asked if he was coming of age. I don't know if i agree with that. I think it's just who he is. I think he really cares. Oh for sure this whole thing. You know you battle with your coach. Sometimes you know trotz has battled to get more out of them barzal. I'm sure his battle with trotz before it doesn't mean they both don't care or they don't have the best in mind for each other. It just means that trotz has enormous belief in what barzal can become and sometimes like a father with a son you have to discipline them in ways to make them get to that next level brazil to me. I loved watching him. These playoffs he competed. I never questioned his competitive ability or willingness to compete. I think there were times where he was so creative. The other honors in the ice didn't know what to do with it. And i think that's kind of what happened. Is i saw a lot of times. That teams against him tried to take away his passing options like he went in and he'd make a great entry or recreate some room and then it was almost like they said. You think you're passing anyone else. You're not passing the anyone else. And one of the things. People have told barzal as he has to be more selfish because people see that they see. He's a pass first guy and as a result if you take away his options sometimes. He's not as dangerous. But i think he's worked hard to improve all of that. I thought he competed a ton. Oy and i saw a guy who was devastated in the moment. So i don't think he mature that answer shows a maturity or anything like that. I just think it shows how much he cares whether we ever doubt that. Barzal wants to be an islanders proud to be nylander. He clearly really loves his teammates that he went out of his way to talk about guys. Like josh bailey. And andy greene. Who might never get this chance again like to me. It's not about him. It's about the group and I mean the way he played showed me how much he cared. And i'm sure he's going to be thinking about that one that hopped over his stick killer And that's that's tough. It's not your fault it's nothing you did but it just sits with you. Yeah ice man. I really you look at it and you say it's it's late night period and that's ice. That's not you know. I really thought after game five. If the islanders god through the first twenty minutes relatively unscathed they were going to win. The game and i just remembered the intermission thinking at the first remission thinking. The islanders are going to win this and of course. They gave up the shorthanded goal and and they lost. But i i gotta tell you. There was a time after one period. I said that's exactly what the allders needed. And they're going to win this game. And and i think know that even though they didn't get a lot of chances the lightning were as good as they were. I'm betting they felt the same thing after game. Five where they were down three nothing after one they thought if they get out of the first period scoreless they're gonna find a way to win We should point out as well. I know or reality of sports and you just deal with them. But all that without anders lee a remarkable achievement for the For the islanders at various times that we've talked plenty about mathew barzal. We've talked about ryan pool ach And the shot. Eller talked about adam. Pelech you know the emerging you know Sneaky norris trophy candidate Whose names should pop up on some ballots. Who else stood out for you from this. Entire islanders not justice series against tampa but from the entire run as far back. As you wanna go maybe even into the regular season who jumped out for you mayfield. And not just because of everything that happened in game six. I just think that scott mayfield as come from. You're you're almost disrespecting him by saying nowhere but nowhere to become a really effective player a really good player. Nobody thought he would be what he's turned into and he's turned into a heck of a player. I think mayfield would be that guy for me. I think beauvillier is a really improved player. But i if. I had to say one person i would say mayfield. So what now then for the new york. Islanders number of unrestricted free agents The trade deadline guys cow paul travis. Travesty jack a mainstay on the fourth line. In cases ezekiel unrestricted. Free agent there as well We talked about mentioned. Andy greene a couple of moments ago. He's a ufa some restricted Including ilias sarokin pollock Anthony pavilion michael cole. What happens now with the islanders. Well i called lula morello earlier on saturday. He told me everything he was to do. Starting with who's getting q. Oh yeah that sounds like glue for sure. So what are you saying. He told me every step of the way. Think you've ever said on this podcast. Great so there's some people who drove off the road hearing that. Well i look at this way. I would be surprised if they didn't have a good idea. Sarokin a restricted free agent right. Yes and after. He came over from russia. I would be very surprised if they didn't have a decent idea of what his second contract was going to look like. So that's one thing to me. The most important guy you have to deal with is paddock. He's a restricted free agent with our bright. He's one year away from unrestricted free agency. He's.

Andy greene Barzal michael cole josh bailey three saturday four mathew barzal first twenty minutes new york lula morello adam brad marchand second contract cow paul travis Five one year beauvillier barzal both

"Awful. You mentioned although the the players on this team and you go from you know kucherov. Two point to sara lee and stamkos etc. Right down to. Ross coleman like the thing that i love about tampa and do with all their men as well even like man erik. Cernak has a very definite end deliberate role on this team mike. Everybody has something that they do right like. Everybody has a job there like a bunch of worker dogs and they all have their assignment and they do it like. It's a marvel. And i'm building this up like david versus goliath. Your house montreal going to do this but the more you see tampa the more. You can't help but just being flat out impressed with this squad it'd be a good final. I'm really going to enjoy it. I i. i'm really looking forward to this final. Just make it go long. I would hate for it to get to this point. Because how hockey would this be elliott to get to this point only to see a sweep like i don't want to give this mantra. It's not going to be a sweet. I know i hope. It's i hope it's i just don't want this. If this mantra canadians story is going to end in the final. And they don't make. I will sleep for a week and guell jammies of his a sweep leading the gravity of that just sinking for one second away. Do you think. I was gonna listen to that garbage. Podcast tweeted of course. Of course you're not interested in quality. griffin's podcast talked to the gas for our. Yes all about the. Griffin's may experience there oliver's chance you'd love it you learn a thing or two along the way too. Yeah but i will sleep and gwen jammies for at least a week if it's a sweep. Oh man i can just see i can. Just i'm going to drop my tweet and save it. Send for the jammies hashtag go. Griffin's go if there aren't well jammies. I will just take won. T shirts and i will take a red marker and i will spell wealth on it w e l f go. Yeah yeah ok well done i. Can we all tell you when to western. I see now. I'm split because i'd love to see you do that for two. I don't want this to end and a hockey fashion like the hockey story for the stanley. Cup playoffs is you can get to the final as an underdog but generally are not gonna win just because it is such a grind and by the time you get there. You're as an underdog you're just exhausted because you're not quilt built for the stanley cup final. Whatever that means. It's just the history of hockey. I just hope that it doesn't end now. If it does for the montreal canadians either way. I just hope this one is a long series And with that will kick it off. Elliott's all set. I'm all warmed up. Welcome to thirty one thousand podcast presented by the gmc sierra eighty four. Can you just talk about What you're feeling right now and is it feelings that you have yourself. "To me. Kucherov health is a is a huge factor over the series. Can't he continued to play in the pain. I think he's in he. You see tempests interesting to me. Because i agree with you. They'll play anywhere you want and when you look at the team that perhaps did that better than any team in the history of the league. Elliott's that's the early eighties new york islanders. And the thing that would frustrate you playing. That islanders team is they would let you decide what kind of game you wanted to play. And then they would beat you at it. Tampa is like that. But the islanders did it on route to four stanley cups. Tampa's going for its second right now and you can make the case that in the salary cap era. Maybe two equals four when you look at how you need to manage your nickels and dimes. Please no jokes. Hoping seventeen million dollars over the salary cap and maybe that does equal four stanley cups of the islanders. But do they not remind you of that team that allender squad that if you wanna play tough we're cool. You wanted to play skill. we're good to one. That's a sixty five while that's us too. Does this tampa teams seemed like the early eighties. Allender elliott friedman yeah. I think that's a great comparison. I mean i don't know if they'll have as many people make the hall of fame as that. Islander team did billy smith pot van. Bosse try jay clark gillies and a lot of. I don't know if there's going to be five hall of famers from this team. But i think they're really good. It's not even their stars really. I mean they stars obviously points been really good scoring nine games in a row. But i think a lot of their other guys have been phenomenal. Mcdonagh mcdonagh's hardly and other guy. I think he's been really good. I think that gourd line has been terrific. I think Calor has been excellent. I said this last night. If montreal wins the stanley cup they earned it this no fluke and this will be the toughest challenge they face but they could do it. Everyone's going to say. It's an upset of montreal beads tampa bay. I'm not convinced of that anymore as long as montreal sticks to their recipe disciplined. Make it hard to get through the neutral zone. Make it hard to get to the net. Price stays sharp and they beat you with their elite level goalscorers when the opportunity comes as long as they stay with their recipe. It's not an upset if they beat tampa bay. I'm just going to throw some natural now. That is just all about my eyeballs and no research whatsoever really irresponsible of me to do this but here we go. does it. Not seem like montreal forces moreso things than any other team in the playoffs. Was it you who texted me that the other night. Yes it was. I couldn't remember who texted me that the other looks to me like de force more icing xlt now might have just been in that one previous series against vegas vegas got more and more frustrated and had to change their strategy and it was more stretched. Passes in that led to the icing. I don't know all i know is montreal. Plays a system. that is so frustrating and suffocating. That one of the byproducts has to be one a you know icing because you're not going to convert on your stretch passes and be that leads to offensive zone starts for the montreal canadians faceoffs rate next to your net minder like they are right now and incredibly tough team to play against the question is can they hold that structure in that style together playing against this potentially explosive tampa bay team which can score not just quickly elliott but they can score suddenly like. How many times have you heard announcer say and suddenly tampa scored two goals and suddenly a minute. Forty eight lakers tampa scored three goals. That's the thing about tampa. Is they force you to to abandon your structure unless we saw that now one blow at game against the islanders there are few if any more button down teams in the new york islanders and tampa was able to get to them to read. The question is can montreal hang onto their structure long enough to start frustrating the tampa bay lightning and even then when you consider how much this tampa bay team has gone through. I don't know the you can frustrate them. I give you seen signs of frustration. Can plus they've wine right. They've wine so they know that there's ups and downs like they've done both though like they've had horrible losses losing a columbus away the that a couple years ago. they've had stanley cup victories. They've had appearances in the stanley cup. Final two they. They've gone through so much this group with all these four players. Sure you mix around the fringes. That's that's a given. I don't know that when you have. I type of experience and that type of both winning and losing you can even frustrated team like the tampa bay to say nothing about the coach. Now who's going into his third stanley cup. Final in jon cooper. I don't know man. This is a this is the toughest has from montreal period in the most obvious statement. You'll hear all podcast. I totally agree. I think tampa has to be the favourite and they are the favourite montreal's odds plus two thirty was what i saw when the series. That's a good long shot bag and you know what to be honest like i said i don't even think it's that much of a long shot if you just said it if they play their system and that's what i said too if they stick to their identity and continue to be islanders extra strength now to me. It's not an upset if they win this. I think the kucherov thing is so important. I actually wondered now that he played game seven. Would there be any chance. Tampa would sit him. Maybe forgive one or two now. I'm not talking that based on any knowledge. I'm talking that based on what i saw. Okay so and and we all saw the same thing about kucherov who did not look like you know. Laser beam nikita kucherov in game seven. It was a much different player. So are you suggesting that. Perhaps since games one and two are in tampa tampa does is keep him out until they quote unquote really need him like give you hold them up from game one and you win while you've won. There's no point in playing him game two if you need. I don't agree with that louis. Then you're talking him being out for a week right yes. I don't know. I don't know i don't know what injury the injury is. It's a rib. I'm pretty sure it's a rip you know. I have to say you know. There was a whole huge battle. I said on fridays podcasts. Yeah there was a whole huge battle about where he actually got hurt. I believe it's the rib. Have you ever had a rib injury. Yes you know every time you breathe. You're reminded you have a rib injury. It is awful. That's why when. I had a rib injury. I just didn't breathe..

"I wanted to start this podcast with a statement on a serious topic. The chicago blackhawks. Some of you have asked whether it's on twitter direct message direct message on instagram. Why i didn't address this topic earlier. I certainly inouye doubt the excellent reporting by tony arnold of wbz radio in chicago. Who broke the story the athletics katie's strang anyone else. It's pretty simple though. I wanted to spend a few extra days doing my own work and my own research just to be sure about a couple of things plus felt using the opening of the podcast and blog. Which will drop monday as a much better place to coherently outlined my thinking instead of on twitter. Things just get mangled sometimes on twitter. There's always what you see and hear out there and what you don't see or hear out there in stories like this one. There's always things that reporters our sources can't or don't print or say and i wonder what those things could be. The accusations are ugly. And what i want to make clear. Is that the people. I spoke to bent over backwards. They took pains to support. Paul vincent the skills coach from two thousand ten who reported the abuses senior management. For that reason. I feel very strongly that however the legal process concludes the blackhawks must come clean and detail what happened. I believe the team and its employees have been told to keep quiet. Not say a word. It's led to a lot of rumors about what punishment could happen but right now. It's all speculation as was several other reporters. The nhl declined comment to me. It's not unusual. It can happen. And i've learned also don't do anything when the league says no on something. What stood out to me was commissioner bill. Daly statement to the athletic. He wrote quote. We have been in contact with the club regarding the matter but there is no ongoing investigation. We do not have any further comment at this time. Dailies a smart lawyer. He includes nothing without reason. No ongoing investigation does that mean no investigation at all there will be an investigation or there already was one. It's open ended. And i wonder at this time. Will that says to me. Don't assume there won't be any statement or consequences sometime in the future. My question is the timeline. Generally when something is in litigation results are slow. If you've ever dealt with the law it doesn't move quickly and defendants aren't going to give away anything. That's going to hurt them in court but and this is a big to me but we are at a time in the nhl. Calendar were hockey. Operations is front and center gm. Stan bowman would be active. During both expansion and entry draft preparations there would be multiple media availabilities. He and the blackhawks will not be able to avoid tough questions. Also commissioner gary bettman will undoubtedly be asked about this during his annual pre stanley cup. Game one conference monday night. No matter the eventual outcome. There must be clarity. We need to know what happened here so we can make sure it never happens again. Nothing else will be accepted and nothing else will be acceptable. Jeff do you have anything. You'd like to add further. What elliott just said. I to agree. The blackhawks need to come clean about what happened. I've covered junior hockey for most of my professional career and stories. Like this as we all know have been all too common. It's ruined careers and more importantly it's destroyed lives. I grew up in toronto Stories of sexual abuse of maple leaf gardens were both disgusting. And also heartbreaking. The published details in this case are horrifying and revolting and any guilty party needs to be dealt with in a serious and significant way. This is at all levels as well. The legal process in this case will play itself out as elliot mentioned and we shouldn't be surprised at any lack of transparency. Along the way that's a legal reality and we may have to be settled with this not arriving at a conclusion that gives anyone satisfaction or any sense of closure either but like to ask you to consider what this means hockey right now. I don't need to remind you. This is a huge story with enormous implications. Here's something i do know. There are ugly truths hidden in the history of this game. And as much as we insist that the blackhawks make good. I would also put forward that other teams and the league along with the players. Association need to do the same and go through a thorough review of how they operate and how they've operated. Some are already doing this. Some stories exist in whispers and will always remain a secret while others are more out in the open an obvious choose not to see them and we all know the conversations are coming. Nhl executive vp. Kim davis joined the nhl telling everyone around her to quote. Get comfortable being uncomfortable for me. That means questioning what we celebrate and cherish in the game of hockey at encourage everyone who hears us to think about the people that say trophies are named. after who were they. What did they stand for. What did they do outside of shuffling along a block of ice. Learn the history of this game how it started why it started and who's been involved along the way and also this is a big one. Consider the statues outside arenas and ask yourself while the player may deserve to be. There does the person there's an old saying. Great men are seldom goodman. That's true in life and sports and certainly true in heart. Okay elliott the stanley cup. Final is all set. It's the defending stanley cup. Champion tampa bay lightning and as. We all predicted the montreal canadiens. Now we dealt with the halves on on the last podcast tampa defeats the islanders in game. Seven one. Nothing other shadowed for andrei vasilevskiy will deal with the The followed now for the islanders. And what's next for lou lamoriello squad but it's tampa it's it all gets underway on monday. Open the podcast. Appear with your thoughts again. I want to say they could very clear that my montreal friends have told me i am not allowed to pick the canadian and they would prefer. I spent the rest of my time dumping on the canadians because it seems to work for them. Look i got to say it's amazing. It's it's an incredible story it really is. I still in some ways can't believe it but again they've earned their way hear people say oh. This is a fluke. It's the canadian division. I don't want to hear any of that garbage. If you win three rounds to make the stanley cup final you have earned your place in the in the final the. I don't care what anybody else says. The canadians have earned their way to be here. And and roger suzie. I'm doing this for you. And all the montreal fans they are no longer islanders light. They are islanders extra strength. They wine new york gave it everything they had came up agonizingly short they are now islanders extra strength and to me kucherov. Health is a big deal. But the thing tamp is they can play you any way you wanna play uptempo up temple the you wanna play tight and tough and grinding dirty. They can play you that way to you. Know it's interesting to me like garry. Galley and i had a big conversation. I pointed out in game seven the first intermission of game seven of islanders tampa that the islanders gave kucherov a more genteel ride than i thought he was gonna. I thought he was going to get some extra shots you know. Whenever he got engaged they give him the extra bombed the elbow. The crosscheck here in there. They weren't doing that. And gary thought he wondered if the islanders were told or were warned by even by their own coaches or anyone else. If you guys go after kucherov they're going to be looking for it. Montreal will not be like that. They will be harder on him. Look i think vassilev skin price. Great goaltending.

"Things have not been going well for the Blackhawks of late they drop another one of the predators, and yesterday they get shut out. Three Nothing hawks out. Shoot the predators 41 21, But Dylan Strome in the team couldn't get one in the net. Lots of chances tonight just couldn't score. Um, thought I played pretty well as a line of suits and Janni and lots of good chances and playing the ozone a lot. So it's frustrating, but back at it on Tuesday that's on the return home to face the Dallas Stars. Chris Bones pregame starting at 6 30 got Tuesday night right here,

"Of entertaining game in the end the Blackhawks good on them for fighting back, But just a couple of bad breaks, actually on three of the goals that got past Kevin Lincoln and tonight when you think about it, the 2nd 3rd and 4th Just all of them involving some some bouncing pox or deflections or whatnot, or in the case of the final goal, Troy, where he makes the initial stop after it redirects off of his teammate. But then it was a race between Pfosten and Duncan Key to get to that rebound. Fast was the one who got it. Got it past Lincoln. Yeah, This is a tough one. Just especially the way it was. It wasn't a good start. They were getting outplayed, and you just kind of wondered how big the damage would be. But Lincoln and was great. Um, it just couldn't make that last save. And, well, he actually did make the last save on that was a good one, because that needed longer legs and arms to scoop up the river, But he just He was not a position because of the shot that went off the stick. And then the chest of Calvin Don made a great save there but wasn't in a position to try and Get into, you know, into the middle of the Net. T o Deter the shot from Pfosten Duncan. Keith He he wasn't expecting to react to that as well. So that was just a real tough break, and Carolina made their own breaks in this one. But I love the way the Blackhawks battled in this game. They battled hard to come back in it. They're down to nothing. They gave up that lead a game. Strong tied it up. They had some really good opportunities. They were forcing the Carolina Hurricanes to defend and that's what they wanted to do. Finally, I think that they understood how they needed to play in that the sense of urgency that came into the into This game for the Blackhawks. They could use that to their advantage going into the weekend game against the national predators who are going to play a high pressure game like this, but heartbreaker for for the Blackhawks to battle their way back into this one against a really good team and not get a point and

"They got to showcase skills that we may not have otherwise seen. If we weren't in a situation. Any long story short while yes. It's important to focus on your job I think it's more important to focus on yourself and the people you share your time with. I mean anyone that's sports. They know like your co workers are your family. You know my group team at the bucks we had a same. Individually we suck. But together, we're all right. Made. I'm even looking at a custom painting that Mitee made for me as a going away present with that phrase and. While it's meant to be funny light hearted like. We took heart the power togetherness and it's my daily reminder to just be there for the people that are important to you. Actually think. Okay. So let's dig into this because I actually think. A lot of times people will try to tell me oh I i. don't WanNa work in sales sales in my thing or I don't want to be cold calling I. Don't want to be doing this and even when I try to tell Mike sales are where there's a lot of jobs. But also let's forget about that for a second listen to the culture that you're talking about listening to the environment you're expressing and sharing. Like this is a great work environment and people like don't realise, don't understand how to cherish what it's like to work with this sales group like this is so supportive. But also like think about the things that you just listed off like that's fun like what kind of jobs exhibit that kind of an atmosphere culture like how important is it for you as a manager to keep pushing culture as a part of the workforce? It's everything. I. Mean You. You can't create culture. You can hopefully create an atmosphere where happens on its own. And I mean, yes, we're in sales. So we have quotas in deadlines, angles that we have to hit, and there is a stress that comes with a lot of rejection In. So we know that so you have to counter it in. You have to bring people up in boost up, prepare them as much as possible but you also gotTa make him laugh. And you gotTa reward and recognize people for doing good work and sometimes that is like straight up just giving rewards acknowledgment. Sometimes, it's doing something silly and fun. And I think if you can find the balance between the two, you're going to have an environment that everybody wants to being a nobody wants to leave. I mean even during. A situation like this, where times in be tough, they can seem overwhelming You also have a sense that my team has now back and they know got, and we're we're gonNA get through this. Let's finish up with this. The final section of your article you talked about a commitment to act, and you also make clear and that your your suggestion to control the controllables and I think that's important concept. It's something we talk about a lot and stress as well. How important is that idea in your mind to stay focused on what you can accomplish versus what is out of your control? I mean I can't stress that enough. Let's think outside a sports for a second. There is so much happening in the world right now with you know health and safety concerns in job loss, financial certainty politics and social justice reform it can get overwhelming it can consume you if you let it. So. You want to control the things you can control to get yourself through it. I think it goes back to what we talked about earlier with prioritizing. What is important to you in your life in your job and then what are the necessary steps you have to take to make sure you meet those priorities? So my approach has been like if I can break those down into smaller things that I can tackle a little bit each day. I can get through each day. Yeah. Usually, get through the smile on my face in that can look forward to the day ahead. Yeah, I've been trying every day to give myself at the beginning today I. write down four or five things I can accomplish these four or five things today was successful and if I had much more than that grace or if other things come up and to handle so be it. But if I get these done, we're off to a good start at eight. Those kind of moments to say. I was productive today I was successful today and give yourself a pat on the back for that. It's easy to get overwhelmed by everything right now and when you focus on what you can control you just you feel like you got your arms around a little bit better right i. Also, give yourself a password wild. Afternoon. In sports nuts the definition I mean things come up all the time things change in Uganda pivot. So the four things I wanted to do today I'm not going to get to them, but I'm not gonNA. Forget about him either like I'll. I'm just re shifting what I focus on. Carless as great as I knew, it would be thanks again for jumping in here our first guest in our three hundred guests. So this is pretty amazing to have you back on again such great information for all of our audience and I guess I mean need. We'll have you back before episode six, hundred and. We won't wait that long next time but congratulations everything with the Blackhawks and Good luck with getting everything back to normal. Thank you I. Really appreciate that all the best to you and your family keep up the incredible work. Thank you for having me back and thanks for all you do for all of us that are fortunate enough to call this our career in our industry. Thanks man. Thank you Carl for coming on the show again, I really have a great connection with Carl when he and I pick up and talk again, it always feels like just you know getting into a good friendly conversation and really supporting one another in our messages and our goals to help others Carl is one of those people and you'll find them in your career and in your life who genuinely wants to help and I think that's such an important thing to tap into and I. "Time for the Chicago Blackhawks postgame show on the Blackhawks radio network over Here's Chris Boat. Well, this night kind of stunk. Overall, we only not only have a Blackhawks to one loss to fall into a three games that hole here in the Syriza against the Vegas golden nights, but My food order never came. Never came through wasn't delivered. So we're a bunch of unhappy hungry campers. Here in our W G N studios. Extenuating circumstances kept food from being delivered so Rex too grumpy Tonight. At least I am trying. How about you? No invite. No. You're mister Mister Cherry hit must have must have brought up a brown brown bag lunch that we don't know about it for everything else That's going on with this a meal. That's OK. That's right. Here I am whining again. Last last post. He was about the refereeing for for a quick second there, And here I am about this like it's Ah, it's the end of the world. But the Blackhawks now, unfortunately facing the end of their season unless they get on a four game winning streak here At least until at least win one game tomorrow night. This is actually down to do or die tomorrow night as they have fallen behind in the serious second straight one goal loss. And you know, as we've gone along You saw the efforts continuing to improve. I'm not sure they're quite at the level of what you see from Vegas up and down the ice for 60 minutes. Puck luck bad once again for the Blackhawks. But again, you can't point your finger that way that you they put the effort in some bounces didn't go their way and in the end Going up against this. This Vegas team that we have come to know all too well, XYZ. Ah, very difficult task. They're good hockey team. They're deep hockey team. They made moves because they At the deadline because they believe they're on honest contender and I think that everybody agrees with that assessment. They made a coaching change earlier this season. Whether it was the right move or not. Peter DeVore was handed a pretty good team, and he's done an excellent job with it. They did. Had the depth that they were looking for at the trade deadline. So there's no weaknesses on this team. The Blackhawks air trying to fit in some of the younger players with the older core group of guys, so there's A little bit more of a transition going on for the Blackhawks on their side of the equation, But the effort was there tonight. You can't fault the effort. They tried hard and you know you're just going up against a good team. You gave it everything you got, but it doesn't matter what happened. You could lose 10 tuna thinner. Or one? Nothing. It doesn't matter. You're down three. Nothing. And now just bring in every cliche in the book and throw it out there because that's exactly where this serious stands when one game at a time. Take tomorrow, Um And give it your best shot. Have that desperation in your game because you know that if you don't win that hockey game Monday morning, you'll be leaving the bubble and one guy I want to talk a couple guys actually want to talk about. By the way, we will have some postgame reaction as we go. Further along in the postgame show. We're going up until 11 o'clock here tonight, so we'll try to bring you all the zoom interviews in their entirety while we spent a few minutes here with Troy once, although zoom interviews are done, but Alex to bring it was really flying up and down the ice. You could tell he was a difference maker. The only problem was in just kind of a continuation of this entire season. It wasn't difference making on the score. She unfortunately, Yeah, the first couple opportunities that he had. A lot of times this season. We've seen Alex Fan on shots flutter them not get you know them solid. Missed the net. I mean, throw everything into the equation. It just hasn't been Alex season tonight. He had a couple really good looks. He had two good opportunities early on. Fleury came across from his left, who was right, made big saves. He was square to the shot coming through and you just look at Alex. You kind of go out, man. This is this is tough for you. He had some unbelievable chances in this game, and he just he has no goals to show for it. And for Alex, I know that it's frustrating. He's talked about it, and they'll say, Hey, listen, actually had eight shots on goal. Getting those opportunities. You know what you're feeling. How is your confidence level and he's going to say the same thing, he says. I'm getting those opportunities and sooner or later they they should start going in his shooting percentage, and that's a real good indication. Good shooter, you see is shooting percentage and at the end of the season, you know where it's kind of going to be at his shooting percentage. This year was just way off the charts. Lo having those opportunities, not finding the back of the net, so I know it's frustrating for him, but he's a young player, and he's just got to stick with it. And make sure that you know again. He comes tomorrow. With that shoot first mentality and And see what happens. Yeah. And on the other side of the ledger kind of an unusual night, you looted us too late in the game. Where you know Jonathan was my course Guy was banking on in the pregame show, thinking he was going to step up and do something opposes Justin. Awfully quiet, non noticeable night for the captain and You look at some of the minutes numbers here. You even have Kirby dock with. You know, Jonathan? Yes, He played 19 minutes or so. But you have Kirby Doc, even getting more ice time than Jonathan. And he's also wasn't his characteristic self in the faceoff dot is the is the black box fell well below the 50% line tonight didn't think that Jonathan was at 100%. And you know, you're not going to find anything out during the play on you may find something out after when they When they talk to the media If there's something little going on there, but this table was a minus two and this one. He only had one shot on goal lost 10 11 10 lost 13 draws. Oh, he came into this. It almost well over 57% in face offs in the postseason, and the Blackhawks have been doing excellent job in this Siri's against Vegas until tonight, and a lot of that is driven by tapes..

"Okay Jason Time for your prediction. Predictions I wanted to say there was such an easy prediction I missed and it came true today. So. Today, the Miami Marlins had fourteen players and staff has positive. That was so predictable that was so predictable and I'm so upset the major league baseball just I I don't know if they assumed it wouldn't happen I. Don't know if they thought that by the will of God, they'd be able to have a sixty game season and. This is so predictable and so foreseeable and I'm so upset that I didn't predict this because now. What happened And it's just it's ridiculous I. Don't I. Do not have enough words to describe how annoying it is from a fan standpoint to see the NBA. Can can procure this bubble. The NHL can pure bubble but the MLB players association was so damn against a bubble, and now we are three games into a season and one team is going to have to feel a team tomorrow of all guys who have not played a major league baseball game before and half of their staff who have not coached in Major League Baseball Games before and Major League baseball shot themselves in the foot, the shot and selves in the foot. So. Anyway, my three prediction. I'm going to say that the NBA finishes season easily. It's been so far so good in the bubble there was the incident with Lou Williams leaving an ongoing to magic city, which has become a big joke on twitter, but it's really not funny. It's really not funny because if he sneaks back into the bubble and doesn't tell anyone that happened, you're putting lives at risk so I'm going to say that. Mba caught that early enough it's not gonNA happen again. NBA going to start and finish. The season will be a lot of fun. Okay. My second prediction, I'm going to say that. I'm going to back up on my prediction last episode and say that there will be a college football season bought it'll be abbreviated and not everyone's going to play. I. Think that. Some conferences you're going to play some won't. Some teams are going to cut the season short. It won't be an authentic college football season, but we'll still see guys out in the field hitting each other and cutting catching passes. So that excites everybody and then finally, I'm going to say this is a non sports action I'm going to say that. The majority of us that are going away to school are back home by Columbus Day. I do not just the more I think about it. The less doable I think that school is because you're bringing in my case. Thousands of people forty, five, thousand people into one area, and you can test them. All you want be you're not going to be able to control what people do when they are not obligated to be in class at that time, people are going to leave the cities or the college towns people are going to go home. People are going to do things that put their wellbeing and therefore the wellbeing of their. Roommates and people living in their dorms and people that go to the school people at the shop they go to the restaurants everything putting everybody's lives and wellbeing at risk I. Just don't think it's doable their way too many moving parts, and if you're having a hard time getting professional athletes to listen, you're going to have a really hard time getting college students to listen. So that's my prediction. It sucks. It's. But. I'm just going to be straight up and be realistic I really. Hope. I'm wrong on this one I really hope I'm wrong on this one. I just don't think it's possible. Well. I don't even know what to say that just gave me a that's a bummer I I hate the idea of you coming home. Ready to get me out of here. Here's my final thoughts. You know I told you this before I grew up watching the blackhawks on little black and white TV that was in our kitchen. Our family kitchen on Odell Avenue northwest side of Chicago I. Remember specifically Saturday Night Games. I'm not sure why I remember that but. I think they were on Wgn TV and you would wait to see bobby hull and Stan Mikita. Walking up the steps that were from the lower bowels of the old Chicago, stadium where their locker room was up to the Ice Tonio would already be out there in net for warm-ups There was so much drama to it with the music the Blackhawks Song playing in everything I didn't understand the game but I loved the speed of the fast pace. It was the middle of winter in Chicago and it gave you something to cheer for. Then hockey kind of just went away like we were talking about for so many in Chicago it became so irrelevant. Until Nineteen ninety-two Chellios in JR Jeremy Roenick. It became a personality driven again with a really good team. They helped sell the game of hockey again but eighteen years than of mediocrity again and hurt the franchise and they came back they rose up from like a Phoenix from the ashes thanks to tapes in Kane and embarrassed Patrick Sharp. "Debut Ford Jonathan. Giving the Blackhawks. We all know Kim done. His whole career really hasn't even slowed down at all Again, I said earlier 'cause your myself special lucky. A crevice play with players that are are that good and people always asking me like what like what sets these guys apart and guys like those guys in Austin Duncan Keith and the list goes on. There like real to win and there will be the best is like through the roof and you can't. Hot. How. Hard we were in and how good they WANNA. Be to play at that level. They're just motivated guys. They're motivated right from eighteen years old. So, let's go to the infamous game winner by Kenner to capture the cup and that brilliant pass from number fifty one. Brian set us up, do even remember the sequence. On, back to be taken by PAM, here's Campbell handing on create again, lots had fixed their. saw. We saw no signal and we sure they've sent a signal. But they are celebrating at the end of the ice one. We have not seen a signal. From the rambler. Yeah. With the shot. Word has gotten to the blackhawks what you have just seen. Along years we'll finish. Not. Not right after I. Didn't remember it. I, think I remembered it like Still Remember, doing an autograph. For. At Dick's sporting goods bathrooms all done in somebody's right game winning assist on the Puck like why Mike I I like. I don't know for me. It was. We want yeah you know Kansas store but I kind of lacked from every sale. Or not. So I don't know it was just a simple play in calling those. This is something that depends were always trying to walk the line and doing it. with the POC. So You know should I shot it maybe maybe it would've probably wouldn't win in its calling those how hard Past to eighty eight this March choice. So he was calling for he wants it. It's amazing. How great of a player? He is a big moment. And when things are going the way, they they are just doesn't shy away from any moment that's out there. So. obviously make great move. Ryan. That sot though it was like it was like a Sidewinder League nobody saw Glenn it was it was side. Nobody. The puck where he shoots and everybody else is shooting Walker Short side trying to get it in that little hole nobody shoot were issue. Where he shot that block that's the thing that amazes me. You, know calling noses to we all of us other players would have. You know try to sneak in in between his arm and stuff but nobody goes five full like that sees that thought teeth how open it is or or that You know, and then everything went from there. That's why I looked up into the you're looking for the PUCK and the in the netting above and the ripple and the netting and all that. So. I it's quite amazing. You know like. You know how he thinks the game that way. Speaking the puck where's the puck right now? Who has? I mean I wish I did. I ever got to the bottom of that story. I don't know nobody knows. I hope I hope for somebody comes out later like in a few years from now tries to sell it. We know where it is I. Hope that happens. But who knows I have no idea. It was probably use it in practice is no no one? No one. Had like the the presence of mind to just grab it and light like hold it like the I feel like in baseball they always do that the final out somebody takes a ball and just stuff in their back pocket. So no just just sat in the net. Will they all went running down the opposite end over to Anti Emmy everyone ran like skated to the other side so it had to either be someone. Special someone had to take it. Someone has it in the story line it's funny because we were keeping every hock that we won the game kept the pocket and we had a thing going with with all the winds you need sixteen wins. And I don't know what game with the pronger took the pock on one of the winds game one game to whatever it was. So I don't know the storyline goes that they took it again i. don't think they actually did that but somebody. Somebody took the Fox With I duNno, it's not something that we were even really. Because, we know we. Not Concerned about it. Okay. You and I still don't think Philadelphia like if you lose the Stanley Cup final, are you really like I'm GonNa go get that they don't get it no. No chance that like. So if to me, I gotta be an arena person to me it's still has it. And they kept quiet I. Don't know who don't but I if I was that I keep quiet for two years and then He what happens with it or they? Didn't even know him. They threw it in the puck man and he hit. Somebody somewhere and they don't even know what the game winner I don't know. That's apparently that wasn't the only thing. Lost That night Colin what happened to your helmet? My helmet. That's a funny story I don't know how came to be, but we're all partying and drinking beers and whatever and I didn't even know and then so we get back Chicago them start a day to two days. Later, the trainers unpack her bag of course, my helmets missing while turns out. I get. I don't know number years later honestly, like probably six seven years later I get this package in the mail. And it's my helmet with a pitcher of Patrick, Kane bodies. So we're out parties. On. One. And it ended up back in buffalo with a one layer. And I don't. But he ended up. I hope the helmet, my house. Oh Gosh the only thing that would have made that better as if it was on a Cabbie's head or something that would have been even better. Probably one point. I know. Guys there's like, what are you guys doing like? You guys tell us. Honestly I wasn't a turned about it. It wasn't something that I really ever even cross my mind until the package showed up and then I had a pretty good laugh. It was pretty funny. I want to ask about the upcoming NHL, Restart I. Personally I love it I. Love that right out of the gate that Games are going to matter in baseball. It's not the case in the NBA. The Games aren't really going to matter at the Star I love the fact that right out of the gate, we're going to see hockey the matter. So I want to hear some thoughts on the restart blackhawks outlook, what you're looking forward to the most and how good it's going to feel to finally have hockey back. Yeah I'm excited to watch I'm excited for you know to watch it August I Tree Games a day it'll be a lot of dvr And a tape and these games but Hawks chances I was just thinking about their. They they definitely have some depth off the down those four lines. moving Kabbalah there to the third line and I think you know you you. You're going to see probably a better Kirby Doc throwing into his game. You know it's amazing. You've seen guys take steps from year to year two especially bigger guy.

"Jason joining us we've been talking about the two thousand ten, the greatest season in Chicago Blackhawks history. So we Kinda dial up a couple of our hockey friends and actually a couple of players from the two thousand and ten team former Defenseman Brian. Campbell is joining US along with Colin Frazier, former Blackhawks Center. Guys welcome to the sports caster and her son, and we are just reminiscing about the greatest season and Blackhawk history two, thousand, ten, both of you guys part of it and Let's start with Brian like. You're obviously the Stanley Cup is the greatest memory but when you think of the team what comes to mind about that squad. Probably like the year before and that year obviously it's Kinda like that group was kind of together for a couple of years I think it was just. Everybody had you know we a lot of young guys? I was older older for that team and I think it was just like we love to go on the road we love. Hanging out at home. It was kind of it was always just a team that would that always wanted to be around each other and you don't see that whole lot especially. Even in today's game with younger players. Young teams they still didn't do much team bonding and you know going out just whether it's going up for dinner or drinks or plant you know bowling whatever it is. It was always something that the guys wanted to do and be around each other. You know it's funny. You actually say that because I remember after the Third Cup win with the Blackhawks I said Oh. My Gosh guys are married. They have kids this is so different from two thousand ten because it was such a young team I don't know if anybody was married except maybe Marion Hosa I would it was such a young team Colin Woody remember about the guys on that team. Bryant. Hit the nail on the head for the Camaraderie was really through the roof and soupy. We signed him as a free agent but if you go back prior to if you go to the Three and four drafts specifically the Oh four one when you have. been. Fickle I can't even remember everyone got through that was like the core of your team. So go back to the minor leagues nor folk and rock was myself and brower. Bercy and Buffalo and and Boland, Corey Crawford and all these guys. So we were friends even you know three or four years prior to winning it in two thousand ten. So we kind of had this good Camaraderie Golan for a number of years. and. I mean Bryant you grow. Beers or meals or really anything we kinda for whatever reason a bunch of good personalities and everyone seemed to get along well, and we we fight like brothers to. But at the same time, we all respected each other everyone played hard and played for each other and I don't know we were able to kind of throw it all together and and win the win win a cop I go. I was only part of the twenty ten cup but I like I said it's the best one 'cause that makes me feel extra special better than the other. Blackhawks. Absolutely one of my favorite things about sports is hearing about like the championship moment of teams whether it be like the regular season or the playoffs when you Kinda know that you're going to win it all that year. So tell me about like. Did. You guys have that moment and if so when was it playoffs? Regular Season Stanley Cup final you know I think for me and and probably two times when I felt that. The one was a regular season. We're probably forty five games into the season team. We had a great team actually we had a really good team or plan not bad hockey, but we picked up. Hosa that summer shoulder surgery so he missed. The first forty semi games in the season, and then we played in San Jose and I know everybody remembers in see scores on a breakaway. We're all sitting on the bench like Oh, my gosh. Wow like. You. Know how good he was. You know how great he was. So. That was that was hit two goals that game I never remember anything about regular season really and I remember this time when he had two goals and. we were just like you know this is we're having misguided this lineup now pretty special and then. Another one is obviously won't be eight, four, I think they were. Kinda. Looks like the Goliath was like this seems like. They're better than us kind of thing and. We matched up well some, but to beat them four straight was pretty crazy in my mind from they were playing regular season in the playoffs and was that Kinda ruled into the Stanley Cup final series. I don't think we played our best hockey against billy but were we played good enough. To get the job done Colin went about you. I think yeah for me. So I, I got a couple of one I remember that was Hosa marrying hosted moment that he's talking about and. Haas he's like the guy that. Talks like underrated he really is I didn't know we just maybe not because he just went to the of fame, but he doesn't really get talked about enough for what he brought to to every team he played on. If you think about before the Hawks, he spent two years straight in the Stanley Cup finals and this is a guy that I feel very fortunate and lucky to. Played hockey with only teammate but but as a player in to spin off that the the moment for me was the first round, we've all seen the school played over and over through Colbert here Haas or the whole story really hot takes a five minute major were down at goal to Nashville and he comes back and scores the the game winning goal in overtime..

"Chicago Blackhawks of a National Hockey League has announced that they're not going to change their name. They're not going to change the name and they're not going to get rid of the mascot name, announce they're going to keep the team nickname despite demands to change it because critics charge that it reinforces Native American Indians serotype stereotypes. The they're known as the Hawks locally in Chicago. They were named after their first owner, Fredrick McLachlan, after the famous Black Hawk Regiment of World War one, which he was a commander. Native American chieftain of the Sauk Nation. Blackhawk played a prominent role in early history of Illinois. So McLachlan adopted the Indian head as the team's insignia, strength, power and honor. So they're coming around. You better change your name, and he's a screw you. The black clocks are not changing, and the Braves are saying in Atlanta. Screw you. We're not getting rid of the time. A harm chop. They're going after Daniel Snyder owner the Redskins because Snyder's a Republican donates to Republican causes. I don't how Republican he actually is Brayden somewhere in South Dakota. Welcome, T. I be network. Hello. All right. Thank you so much for taking my call. It's an honor to be on your show you, sir. Anything on my bucket list. I'm pretty excited. "Theorem type deal this year more so than I remember it Brady. I mean, I wanna say it's eight of the last nine that come in. Yeah. You love defined that type of thing. It was not long ago that we really started. Discover the over in the first period in hockey, how that was hitting all the time with the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Chicago Blackhawks and also John Murray on the show earlier said they were rooting hard for the Portland trailblazers tonight. They are currently leading the warriors outright one zero two to ninety nine with just nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. So looking to make the west gate happy. There are the Portland trailblazers going on that Richard badgen, Finley Toyota, out-of-town scoreboard, we will get you all those scores in the final twenty minutes as we'll come back from our final break, but we will let you know, the game's going right now, college basketball, hardwood, Colorado is taking care of business to forty to go. So Hurley's boys not able to. To follow up on the win over Washington in Tempe. They trailed sixty six fifty eight with two forty eight point deficit to climb back from in boulder. Sixty three sixty one Panish holding on for dear life is alma mater, Fresno. State leads Boise state by a deuce just five seconds to go. But looks like the Broncos will get the money unless it goes an extra five minutes and Stanford now is grabbed the lead against a very disappointing USC team sixty nine fifty six eight thirty nine to go Maples pavilion in the second half. Everything else is final as far as on the college. Hardwood will get all those scores. Anaheim still leads Vancouver one nothing. That's now after two periods. That's block walk by James hands it over and it's clear down the ice by golf stroke the five on three now for the Boston Bruins after the big block by golf clear by the Chicago Blackhawks pass ahead group. Let's go to he'll walk it over, but it's napped away from through Marsha they'll have to regroup et cetera. Fifty four remaining on the Cain binder one thirty left on the eastern. Bob Varsha had walk right into camp etcetera and gave it away. Behind rask's, neck, not good details for the Bruins too, many isolated one on one place right now for them. Trying to get the puck in Persia. Iran has it at center turning away from such sneaking in left wing side got it onto Marquette. Now, they'll set it up at the left point got away from Saad worked at the crazy. In front of the net. They go to crude death it over to Marsh. Top of the right circle on top straightaways postured up. Look at gas. You keep the crazy in the left corner. Back the pasta dot H E in the left corner. Prey across by John right circle shoddy missed the short side. And that's not really the shot. You wanna take Brad Marchand playing on the off side the lefty taking the top one time from the right? The puck Kane is on. It's a five on four. Broke into the corner. They go back to slap shot just wide the net. From the near circle. But. Circle. Overskated Berge arrived along the boards. Final. David Krejci, really distributing the pot using the sauce past the ice to me looks to be playing very smooth, very flat, Billy. I'm seeing the puck fit nicely for the Bruins on this powerplay. Seems like you're getting a little shaved on it during the intermission looks real good. Got it out to set a pass the diesel, Bob, it's an icing call or an off-side call against the hawks by settled these are over no shots on the two man advantage. A major momentum swing here. Not only to the Bruins not score on.
