Arizona Cardinals' Kliff Kingsbury on Hot Seat?

"All right my friend. We've covered three quarters of the national football league and we save kind of the best for last as far some of the most competitive divisions in the national football league so we may as well starting out in my neck of the woods relatively speaking with the arizona cardinals who find themselves pain as six to one hundred dollars to win the nfc west. This season their win. Total sits at eight and a half. You do have to lay a buck in a quarter if you wanna go. Under that total third season in the valley of the sun for cliff kingsbury last two years of tailed off in the latter. Half of the schedule. When you look at how this team performed. They lost six out of their final nine games. Second year in a row as we said they fallen apart down the stretch. Arizona elite league and penalties and you begin to worry about the decision making enga- management that oak liffey boy has shown since taking over last winning season for this franchise came back in two thousand fifteen where they were pummeled by the panthers in the playoffs but point differential last year plus forty three best amongst teams. That didn't finish with a winning record. Missed out a postseason berth. By virtue of a tiebreaker is the chicago bears edge. Them out schedule though starts all away from home where they'll play three or four on the highway to kick things off when you look at the arizona cardinals pain. We know it's all about the offense but they've also made some pretty good editions at least in my opinion on the defensive side as well arizona's tough for me to gauge. And it doesn't help that. They're playing in this division. Which is probably the most competitive and i don't really know i'm sold on kingsbury yet. And we've mentioned this number a couple times over the years but i think it's really interesting because it's mind blowing. You can get an nfl job with a resume like kingsbury. He was twenty three and forty at tack if you remove. Fcs opponents and kansas from his record. So it's really interesting from that

Is Justin Fields the Answer for the Bears?

"You're making the case lewis that is predicated on both general genuine interest in the game but also on your skills. It's like a stock picker. And so i come to you because as you alluded to the. Nfl is famously. Comprehensively terrible at finding really good quarterbacks ed yet here you have a stock that you've put your stamp on lewis. Let's be honest about this. Justin fields entering the second quarter of that first. Preseason game for the chicago bears over the weekend. What were you feeling. What were you thinking as he goes. Fourteen of twenty. One hundred and forty. Two yards one touchdown thirty-three yards rushing another score on the ground. How were you processing all of that. Okay so the greats. The people who have the potential to be great. When you're talking about athletics. I don't care if it's football basketball track and field. Whatever it is their movement patterns and their body language their execution. When it's on it looks so damn effortless. It almost looks like they aren't really trying. It's almost like they're just out there playing the same way. We used to play when we were kids. And you to sit there and you just kinda marble marwat just how easy it looks. And that is how

Nagy benches Justin Field for Andy Dalton

"And another team and their actions. That aren't making a whole lot of sense now. Are the chicago bears and head coach matt nagy because this week matt nagy came out and obviously he's in a win or else win or lose your job type of situation in chicago but nagy came out and essentially committed to andy dalton as a starting quarterback this week which is just bonkers especially when in the nfl draft. You traded a future first round. Pick to go up and take justin fields out of ohio state number eleven overall justin field as your future. Even if matt nagy and gm ryan pace. Aren't there certainly hoping that justin fields shows enough. This year this season not just to save their jobs but to position the bears to go back to the again and maybe win a playoff game and show that there can be some promise with this quarterback in that franchise and i think the justin fields has that ability. I think that when you watch him he can make all the throws. He's won a lot of games at ohio state. He's not your typical state quarterback he committed to penn state transferred to d- committed to penn state rather went to georgia faced a lot of adversity in georgia overcame at ohio state. One big games has all the arm strength. has all the accuracy can throw on. The run is mobile. And you're gonna put him on the bench holding a clipboard behind. Andy dalton

"How Smart Is Your QB?" with Dr. Scott Goldman - Ep052 - burst 1

"There are a handful of people who scored really whelming a i q at the quarterback position that are being very successful. And there's a handful of quarterbacks at scored really low on the ad cue that have yet to find their success. Wow not predictive. But i think it's contributory because for example one of our one of the abilities that we measure is the ability to download and recall information and for those that have worked in football footballer professional football pre-season installs or oh ta in talk off season installs. That's that's a complicated playbook right and then you have weekly installs where you kind of augmentin twist All the stuff that you went out reviewed over the season. So i think as an example a quarterback's ability to master and learn the playbook and all of the details and nuances and then to be able to completely kinda wipe the board somewhat clean and then rewrite it for every week That pretty hard task. And we're noticing that people who score high on that tend to be very successful quarterbacks and people who struggle on that have yet to produce that kind of outcome

"These people in with an organization. They have shown us who they are. It's up to us as reporters vans journalists. Hey would you like to call yourself go forward. It is up to us to just accept. This is what is is and they're going to be who they are up until the point they aren't here anymore and me not being here is not part of the organization anymore but with this pick in with the potential with the the hope dream. Who knows when it's going to happen because we to hope we're gonna dream it. We're going to wish the best we're going to reach for the move because if we fail we amongst the stars we're going to reach for the sun because we burn off in it it's okay. It was the sun. You get it so for us. A mere particular to be upset in about something. I have no control over. That would not be. There will not be me being me. I gotta follow orders. I gotta follow the lead of the leader in a true leader or the leader has told me many many occasions when he's spoken. It's a collaboration. All in well pushing by chips to the table. And i'm all in am i excited about it. Hey would you think. Am i okay with everything that's happened since what you think am i being me. Of course. i'm following directions. I am following directions. That was set up for me by the leader coach. Nagy matt nagy has told me in the rest of us to be you. So i'm going to be me. I got questions. I'm going to continue to be critical when time is needed for me to criticize what just happened was and for me to criticize is and try to predict a future that he's not lake to ryan pace coach. Nagy or the rest of the bunch. In general that will be me created a different narrative. Me zooming off into a different rail and basically just disappear and reappear. And just saying you know what i don't know what's going on. Even though the actions have told me this this is going to happen. But i'm going to ignore that because happenstance variance too many variables. But when you take out some of the variables and will you narrow it down to the exact science when you narrow it down to the exact science. After tests that the test experiment at the experiment. You can't ignore the results. You cannot ignore the results. When i get to the point where i get to the place where i'm ignoring the results. That's me being somewhat else. That's me being someone else. Basically not a truth teller. I'm gonna continue. I'm going to try to be this truth teller. I'm try to call out situations when situations need to be called out there. A lot of situations in fact they need to be called out but right now for this moment in time. I'm going to sit back. i'm gonna relax. I'm gonna open up a bottle of hope. I'm gonna pop the top in. I'm going to take a few sips. I'm gonna take a few sips until my belly is full in my belly is four and i can't drink anymore. Hope the next step. That i'm going to do since the here for the long haul matt nagy ryan pace. I'm gonna press my. I believe but on this it will. I believe button breaks and me. trust me. don't get this twisted out to park. Shot out to the life. Don't get this twisted where my i believe bud breaks. I'm going to press my. I don't know my. I don't know button breaks. You know the idk. When ed breaks when mel functions when i need repairs as well. I don't have my. I believe the the hope is gone. I don't know is broken. Then gonna be me and be in that situation. It's a flight of fright me in that situation. It is fight or flight. And i don't like the run anymore. I don't like the ron anymore. Because running around and circles chasing your own tail that amy running around in circles chasing your own tail. That is not me. I can't do. I can't pretend that something is true when something is true. I can't say disguise green if the sky is blue. I can't i won't infect coach nagy ryan pace. They wouldn't expect otherwise because there wouldn't be me being me. I'm gonna. I'm gonna be all in. I'm going to be all in. My chips are in a table on bedding. Even though i don't gamble because i'm not a gambler. I don't gamble. But i liked risk. I like calculated risks. I can respect a calculated risks. I can understand a calculated risk. I noticed calculus behind a calculated risk. So for me me wa to criticize another individual who takes calculated. Griss probably more more often than not more than you should put. Hey no no judge zone for me to criticize of me to poke at a calculated risk when i would take the calculated risk when i enjoy calculated risks when i myself depart a calculated risk. I'll be disingenuous. i will be disingenuous in. I don't do that here. We do not do that here. I'll be no better than any other person. I'll be no better than any other mouth breathing. The allston case will Way to decide how far the ncaa gets to govern this. And ironically when you talk to some of the big time athletic directors all over college Sports they've been trying to figure out how to govern power five as you know versus everybody else versus division two in three verses the other sports versus title nine. They're all bunch of level of financial commitment. And you gotta cover all of them the name image likeness stuff doesn't just involve the top marketable player in college football or basketball. Every year trickle down to all five hundred thousand student athletes in the ncaa men and women so it is not an easy decision. Remember the ncaa. Mark everett last year said. We're going to do it. Former Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky Signs One-Year Deal With Bills

"Announced earlier today former bears quarterback mitch trubisky signing a one year deal with the buffalo bills presumably to backup josh allen. There it is a two and a half million dollar deal with some incentives tied into it. That's injury presumably would be the other scenario. He gets beat out for the backup and he's the third. Is that one. maybe it gets cut. It's a there's a chance he'll be the backup. Let me ask you this question though. Because it's easy and it's if we're making fun of mitchell way or mitchell and that's worthy of being made fun of i think but not this. He's okay right you know. He's making more than a lot of hardworking people. You know literally do in a lifetime in this bad year but they are in the end of these players these reaching the pinnacle of their profession. And it's a billion dollar profession. They make money. They're supposed to make. I mean to me. The beauty of the nfl's rev share agreement. Is they're saying okay. The players contribute fifty percent the infrastructure. The all legacy to have the trademarks team. You know however you want to think about that fifty percent we take the money in. We divvied up and go. I mean to me that means that you can't even debate if collectively that you were jones but collectively with the players deserve their millions and millions and billions ultimately. They do that said we can. Because they're making so much money. We can have some fun with it. But i gotta be honest. I think that trubisky getting resigned by the bears was closer than we thought. Because i would make the following case. Let me ask you joan. What you would have made the odds. I don't we didn't do it at the time but right when this season let's say the regular season ended and those that remember obviously foles got her trubisky came back in play statistically significantly. Better at that point. I would have guessed about thirty percent chance. The trubisky would've had been rinse we signed in some significant way. Not like a five hundred million dollar deal but a real deal. I think the odds weren't worse than thirty percent. What would you have guessed. The is debate. I yeah i would have said probably about the same because that was a lot of the discussions i know in and around chicago that day. Did he play himself back into consideration for the twenty twenty one quarterback job and when i see him getting beat out for the job. I don't mean that. As a slight m i actually think. He's a much better quarterback than people give him credit for. I think for that kind of money if somebody comes in and outplays him buffalo's not gonna be tied to that contract like if he would have signed for seven or eight million

What are you got? All right Peggy. I just I don't know when I'll be free agency is going to start but I will say that the White Sox are designed Trevor Bauer's are going to break the bank first hundred million dollar cost deal in team history to me often and not just come inside my second prediction that they are not going to hire Tony larussa. I don't know where that came from the hiring a 76 year old to manage. One of the youngest teams in baseball just sounds really counterintuitive me. My third prediction is that the bowls when the NBA draft comes I believe there's a few weeks to three weeks. They're going to draft lamelo ball. So lots of exciting name can be coming to Chicago. No, lots of lots of turnover between the Blackhawks and bowls and the White Sox. It'll be very interesting winter. I remember three four times a week over the summer coming down stairs like 11:30 being like, where's where I thought it was listen. We were we were given the opportunity to be outdoors and some fashion playing golf being on an outdoor patio eating at a restaurant that had outdoor seating. It's one thing that the pandemic has done and it's made all of us grateful for what we do have. I truly appreciate the restaurant industry workers who are still hanging on by a thread. Our businesses but became really creative and worked tirelessly to give us all a place to be friends and to be social to the golf courses that changed how they did business again. I could enjoy things outside. I don't know what the next few months are going to bring but it feels an awful lot like it did a few months ago a bit helpless until as Mike Ditka said after he was fired in nineteen, ninety three this too shall pass. "Not going to break two or three tackles and go to the house. So the birth Are missing that kind of player. I'd like to see them improve their with their running game and their offensive line working together. Cuz look at here's the here's the honest truth about the Bears to be honest with you. I'm an expert on it. There's not a lot of talent there and they have to they have to get in a room somewhere and they have to admit that to themselves. So when you don't have to have a lot of talent you you have to be all in by that I mean, you have to contract your details, you have to give maximum effort on every play. You have to be better than the sum of your cock. So when you asked me where they have to approve by position-wise, what they have to do is they have to improve all eleven guys have to be a well-oiled machine artists authors really doesn't have a chance so they have to go in every time thinking this is a gang fight. It's also 11:00 working together to pull this boat on a field do everything right. For example. You cannot on 34 come across the middle and a crossroad like Miller did and then run backwards you can do that. Okay, the offensive line has to be able to recognize run flip pick em up and give their running back or Kris and only way you pick a run place up is you all work together really really? Well. What do you think it's going to take because clearly no matter how many times you win like, you said earlier like all the matters at the end of the day just wait in the Bears have done that so far with the exception of the game against the against the cold. So what do you think of Acres have to do other than judge when to finally make the fans happy because although I'm not in Chicago from what my mom and some of my friends and saying it seems like people still can't like can't just be a happy with a good start off. Well, yeah, that's just a Bears fan, right? I paid her for thirteen years and I you know, you understand that and sometimes these new guys coming from out of town like a big bows and they can understand it. But yep. Is this the way it is right in when they're going to you know, what the what the Chicago fans want to see obviously is an offense that puts up 24 to 30 points a game. Like everybody else is in the back and then if he has dominated like they have them but my guess is you're only going to get that if you get a bunch of turnovers in a bowl starts popping out, but the problem is that happened last week and the Bergen it still didn't look really good. So if you're waiting for the offense to look really good looking play some really bad defenses and still haven't put the bone in don't still have it moved the ball consistently on the field. So I think we're pretty much looking at identity wise of what this team is for the rest of the season. I love the Spurs defense. I think everybody loves us. Friends there is I don't know what you can complain about with this Bears defense. They've only given up eight touchdowns and 19 points a game. I mean, that's nine touchdowns 18 field goals. This is them Numbers are amazing. And I almost look at it. Like the first couple of games. They felt like they were in preseason mode. They they were kind of getting into shape especially Robert Quinn, but now between Quincy and Hakeem Hicks and Khalil Mack the pressure that they're getting up front allowing the guys in the back to make the plays and they're making the plays. This is like old bear football that everybody loves but I want to ask you cuz I know we only have a minute or two left. I want to ask you this Olan the penalties. I have a different. I have kind of a boxing mentality when it comes to penalties like yes, they can be stupid. And yes, the Bears are like tied for last or tied for the top with the most penalties. Whatever in the NFL they can be stupid too many men in the Huddle stupid stupid stupid. We know that Nagy isn't trying to you know, pull something over in a Bill Belichick kind of weigh. Those are just stupid penalties on defense. Well, this is how I feel like late hits roughing-the-passer. Unnecessary roughness, I know we're trying to protect the safety of the players, you know Olin sometimes those are wake-up calls that you kind of need to put in the head of an offensive player that holyshit. These guys can hit and and almost to the point where they're going to start hearing footsteps. And and it doesn't bother me as much what's happening with Kyle Fuller off. The only thing you don't want to happen is for the refs to start labeling you as one of those guys and now they start looking for it, right? But but the good thing is if the refs break down film like Thursday, we know they do they'll see that that he's not being dirt. He's actually trying to hit them with perfect fundamentals which his shoulder you guys head out of there. So hopefully the Reps Thursday that they're making a mistake and you're you're totally correct about this defense man. They are fun to watch their defensive line. You know, we all know the names Khalil Mack Hakeem Nicks and Robert Quinn, but this Mario game Words, I watch the game with the Panthers. He beat the left guard three times in a row. So they're going to win if guys like Mario Edwards are Roy robertson-harris are Brett Urban are going to win there was a guy on match up. This deal is going to be unstoppable pay going to be honest with you. So yes, you wanted to defense plan on the edge a little bit and honestly, I'd like to see a personal fall from an offensive lineman eventually at this month. They get that kind of mentality to where they're hustling down the field cleaning off the pile of giving Max effort. I definitely I am not worried about Kyle Fuller actually. I mean, he's got a very high level he's very he's smart you take advantage of he knows how good that decrease the line is. So he takes calculated chances on this shooting on Route, you know that the receiver and have a lot of time to run double move. So he took his own he knows the balls got to come out and then he just hunts the guys crossing over the middle and push very good hits on them. You know, you could say he was there a little early in that. You know the one yep. Action picked it off and went to the end zone but you could also argue that that doesn't get called very often in the NFL. So I'm hoping this a little bit of a bad luck there on the calls from the referees because they could have gone either way but this defense I don't think you worry about it. I think they just keep playing exactly the way they've been played and a guy that that needs to be mentioned besides Jalen Johnson. We played really well for a rookie. It's tashaun gipson the added him to the secondary with Eddie Jackson and those two guys wouldn't be surprised if the secondary expert guys suck at bowling or these guys who work for ESPN. I wouldn't be surprised if they say that Gibson and Jackson or the best safety combination in the league by the end of the year. Wow. Hey, I think you're right to I think they're missing a Kyle long little scruff, you know that kind of that fire on the offensive line of times. All right, we're just about out of time, but I just have one comment to say and log All in the Bears signed Manti Te'o this past week and I just gotta say that fifteen years ago you and your teammates would have had a field day and in the locker room with a man title. That's all I'm going to say. You know, I would.

"They gave Robert Quinn 70 million additives. Okay, the Bears offensive line, we all know needed help so they went on and got Germain ifedi for league minimum. So now now we're not very confused why the Bears all kind is not plain great football game right now, right and it's just even when I when I used to play for the Bears for years people would ask me that question what's wrong with the Bears offensive line and and trying to be a good teammate, I wouldn't say a word but my what I wanted to say, I have you looked at the draft pick since we got here right? Have you have you looked at who we've signed? I remembered 2009 the offensive line was terrible and and I had a conversation with some of the month. We gotta we really need to improve our offense right? We're going to get get color killed here. And so what they did is around the side Julius Peppers, they put another Hall of Famer on a defense of Brian Urlacher and in the club. Discontinue the next year why is your offensive line so bad and I just keep looking at the people would ask the question that they man. I mean, all you have to do is look at draft picks and look at who we sign is free agent and you figure out why we don't play very often decided the line. Yeah, they're buying Toyota's on the offensive line and Porsches on defense. So it's a little it's a little different. Sorry about that chase of go ahead with the exception of the offensive line. Which what other unit on the entire team. Do you think needs improve the most in order for the Bears to validate their their Good Start? You know, what I what I'd like to see an improvement on is David Montgomery just or somebody. I don't know who they'll get artavis Pierce or or Cordarrelle Patterson or so. You know, what I'm getting to is when when all Chris lines does give me your whole you have to hit it right and and here's a problem with David Montgomery, even if you know, I love the way he played he's not going to break two or three tackles and go to the house. So the birth Are missing that kind of player. I'd like to see them improve their with their running game and their offensive line working together. "Right, you always have to think about when you get to the playoffs you have to think about matchups and the things that give the Chicago Bears of problem would be like the New Orleans changed. And the reason I say that is Devon offensive line that can match up with the Bears defense of line, you know to get the ball out quick Drew Brees. Does it run the ball pretty well and it took Michael Thomas who can take the top off of your defense so they can avoid a team like that get a team with a weak offense of line. Like if you go back to 2018 and you think about when they went up to Minnesota and then play back up there and if if they would have sat there starters that week the Bears would it would have played Minnesota in the first round of playoffs instead they beat them and they play the Eagles the Eagles even though they weren't really suck that year with Nick Foles the quarterback. They had a good offensive line that went up the end up winning Seventeen and sixteen. So if they didn't get a good match up getting into the playoffs, I think they could definitely can win a playoff. Yeah, I want to get into the offensive line here in a second. But back to the point about Nick Foles. Like Jason was just saying I don't know where the Bears stand Owen and yards after the catch. I don't but the lack of an explosive player. They don't have that down field threat and and it worries me that in the second half of the Season all these teams and all they have to do is look at the film and know that the Bears don't have anyone down field. There isn't anyone that's really breaking tackles for 20 yard games anything like that? And so they're going to force Nick Foles to go downfield. And and I think that that's what worries me. You know, how what if you were sitting in the that film room and you're watching at Nick Foles running the offense and the lack of any kind of explosive threats, what are you going to do? Yeah, you know it's funny you mention that Peggy because I was watching the game with a defensive coach and at the end of the game he looked at me. He said, you know the problem with the Bears is like if I formulate a game plans, they don't really scare me at all. So simple thing you just said right guys just said cornerback suck sitting a shorter and shorter the safety start creeping up and we've seen that the first two weeks off I think people came out and and they thought he would throw the ball over the field that lions in the Giant and they gave the Bears that run because they're worried about the path. Well, the bulk is decided in effect about Midway through a six course, you know what want to throw run blitzes and run stunts to be guys and see what they got and into the Falcons got injuries across their their secondary Choice working. They were showing the Bears offense down and embarrass have seen that ever since they're being guys loaded off-road run blitzes at them shut their run down and they have it be able to get behind anything. Secondaries for an explosive play the funny thing and and the funny thing you have to think about too. Is that a guy like Darnell Mooney who has got two behind a defense then the offensive line gets a little leaky. They don't have enough time. So they got to figure those things out. But if you just go across the Bears depth chart and just go guy for guy, they lost two recall and and they took James Daniels if you ask me James Daniel was was their second best football player on an offense with not a lot of talent. So now they're talented drops off even more. So where do they find these guys? I don't really know. It's not like it's not like they're out there, you know, Cordarrelle Patterson the guy I guess they could try get into some matchup. I would like to see them start Coco met at tight end. I think he just kind of breaks some of your life Tendencies and he can do both of what Demetrius Harris and Jimmy Graham do so now he said he doesn't know if you're running or passing so, you know, you know long answer. I don't know really know what time We find their guys to get explosive places. Back to our conversation in a minute. But first have you ever dealt with bunions? I have it got to the point that I couldn't even wear any shoes without having shooting pain, even at night. I couldn't even pull the covers over my foot at home so bad. It didn't matter if I was wearing slippers or boots gym shoes working out or heels for a night out. The pain was intolerable. I finally decided to do something about it. But when I heard about foot first Podiatry and they're exclusive procedure the sklar bunionectomy it has you on your feet the day after surgery. Are you kidding? Well, I had to see it to believe it and you know what they offer right surgery was easy. I am so glad I did it. I walked out of surgery in a boot no cast. No crutches walking the same day and you can be back in a gym shoe in about two weeks. When I look at my foot now, there's no visual Scar and best of all I am paying free. So ladies and guys don't walk around in pain like I did four years visit. first. Com All right. Let's look at the offensive line. You mentioned how James Daniels she was the left guard the starter out now with the PEC injury out for the season Rashad coward comes in and he has struggled down but let's not forget. He's only been playing offensive line for what two years now. He's not Big Cat Williams. He's getting tangled up in his footwork. He is he the only problem. What do you seeing as you know, fourteen years Center in the NFL? What are you seeing with this offensive line? Well, yeah this thing you mentioned overshot power. First of all, you know, the guy moves from undrafted d-tackle the right tackle and then they put him at Right Guard last year after power long injuries headlight bulb goes out then they then all of a sudden James Daniels goes down and then they say, okay, you know what we're going to try your left guards going and its first start, you know, people who say like, well, we're shot, I got blown up and I always tell people pay guys who he got blown up by matters. Now, he got voted by Derek Brown the seventh pick of the draft, right? Okay. So an undrafted get you just betting in Vegas. What's the odds in that matchup? Probably the probably favorite very broad very heavily. So, you know, the Bears offensive line overall going into the season. I thought they played average to above-average football that was a win for the Bears because they don't have a lot of resources or a lot of money spent on that offensive line, you know, some of it is dead. They gave a good draft picks for Khalil Mack. Some of it is the way to decide to build their team. So look, why is the Bears be lying so good. Well on a very good d-line they gave Robert Quinn 70 million additives. "I watch Nick Foles press conference. And he you know, he got he got emotional over being questioned them about them not being very good. And I think coach Nagy was irritated to kind of like, you know Peggy my my answer was a welcome to Chicago and you play off with a really good defense, right? So, they'll get used to it, you know, as long as you win games nothing else really does matter. I mean, obviously when you look at them from an analyst standpoint, you're wondering when they get into that wage work or if an office desk or twenty one point early or three touchdowns. Can we score 28 to 30 points which they have? I think they get the bulk. Is it put up 30 points or the phone number? To go to Indiana fell but like you said pay you and you watch that defense, they're extremely good and they got one thing that a lot of good teams and teams that have good success with the formula of the defense wins games. They create chaos with a quarterback and they speed up the offense is clogged which creates turnovers. So that defense to me on film look up to dominate not only been six weeks, but that's secondary to find the involved the defense side how good they've been playing is that secondary is playing really well also, so so, you know and thought we'd love to say there's no pictures on the scorecard. I don't care how you got that birdie. A birdie is a birdie a win is a win but we would have loved for it to be beautiful and to be you know them be a great well oiled machine, but how long can they sustain this throughout the rest of the NFL season? We're about to file really quickly here. Right? We got the Rams. We

"Everybody. Welcome into the sportscaster and her son were Sports Bridges the gap between the generations. I'm yep Peggy kusinski 12 time Emmy award-winning sportscaster at NBC Chicago for Seventeen years. I'm the baby boomer. I'm Jason and I am dead. Now I can't even say that Jason. I don't always get along because the fact of the matter is that for the first time in his lifetime 18 years. Jason is living away from home at college. So we really can't fight at all. Yes. We do still share a mutual love of sports. And Jason is super lucky because you get to watch college football games. How is school going Jason? Who's going really really? Well. I've never really good time down here. I've met some good people. I've gotten all my schoolwork done when football games have an experience winning football, but the weather's great food. Great. People are great not really too much to complain about. I love it. What's it like going to live football games? Cuz we we here in Chicago have no idea what that's like, it's really really nice. It is really really nice. It's something that I feel like they all took for granted back before covet. When you run out something for a couple of months something that you really care about if it's the joy when it comes back so then do a few football games that you've been a really good time again hadn't really win to one too many of them. But regardless, I can't complain of happy to support the back in this episode the Bears. They're five and won three games shy of the Midway point of the season and yet Jason, I don't know if you can figure this out in Austin, Texas, but here in Chicago fans are not happy. It's the typical Chicago Bears fan that is not happy with the five. One record. It's perplexing. The offense isn't great. The defense is great yet. They are finding ways to win people in Chicago are not happy. Does that surprise, you know God no that does not surprise me in the slightest. Yep. Pause me know but I will say that the people from Chicago that I know here everybody's married. I didn't know if my buddies who were going to school across the country that a big Bears fans are even more excited. So I think that what you leave Chicago may experience of losing first and it's a lot easier to let the team. Yeah, it's been the typical you're you're not happy with the success and even Matt Nagy last week after their win over Carolina and Nick Foles felt the same way they were like, listen, we know it was winning ugly. But she is at least let us celebrate that were five and one. Yeah, I don't even think of the Carolina win was winning ugly. That was a game like where they thoroughly LED from like kick off to kneel down and that was the first win where it's a matter of fact, I think that we should all it for full quarter from the Bears and the Buccaneers win. Absolutely. Nobody should have been complaining about the Falcons win. I don't see how you complain when you come back from down twenty. I could see now the line when was dead Was really messy and the Giants win, but the last three wins and the last four games has all been born depressive as they went along. Like I said, the Buccaneers win this more impressive themselves when Panthers win was more demanding than the Box went and now playing the lands on Monday Night Football at home is six point underdogs. This is the biggest test of the season and if the Bears can win this one that I think.

"Last few goal to take the lead with five minutes left and I understand that because if because if you don't make it, you had a chance to take the lead with five minutes left in the fourth quarter and you didn't do it so. I'm talking myself out of that right now but I really wanted them because they like feel new feels warrant going to do it you just felt like vehicles weren't going to do it and you really needed a touchdown there I think if they scored a touchdown there the game would you know the game would would have been over but you know again like I just. A couple of things you say, but you took the lead in the third quarter defense gets a great possession. You get the ball at midfield and all hell broke loose about. As the holding, you got to the thirty five on a great play to break to to Brady, and then you backed it out what forty yards listen some. Penalties. But mother was you just can't do that kind of stuff in that game you got to know and listened Ryan jets and got away with one last week and this week he got burned with it not saying it should have been a paralegal. I'm sure the rest looked at the tape last we have boy he's on the edge again, and this was the Ryan Jensen. We saw two years ago. That didn't like with all the personal fouls I also think with this too is this. You have to win no matter what and you WanNa put yourself in the. It'd be Super Bowl contender. Do it tonight you drop down listen Remai- in ten days I. Hope they get some guy's back in. You might have lost more of the game and I, agree with what? Did you hold out and rip the Jersey from your body or just slam it into the ground like gronk slamming a spike in the end zone? Yeah. Because I would pay money to see that I really what I gotta say. I don't know, but I don't know maybe we need to do the bill bell check way we maybe we need the Patriots way maybe then all disciplines offensive line, may we need to have them do one thousand, thousand post temporarily market one, thousand put up five hundred suicides at thirty minutes in of the Superman and maybe then they'll be disciplined if not every time. He take one hundred, thousand dollars out of their contract take one, hundred, thousand dollars that contract maybe then they'll be disciplined maybe dead they won't know the fall of star or holding then Dole learn maybe then don committee, we'll be like oh maybe I should play I'm done with him I want you'll Hague to be right tackle and work to be left tackle I am. I am done with them. I don't WanNa see him on the field anymore I'm done and through with him he is horrible. We are holding onto him. It's it feels like it's more of a burden. Now, it becoming more of a burning than Elo stuck with Amazon being more turning now more than helping us and don't with this whole offensive line kept Marseille. Just in war played his worst game yet to play yet to play any still wasn't that bad. "We have to be or it. Well, that's a little unfair. You're thinking past history and I agree with you You know we said that against the San Diego game, we said that at the Denver Game I guess the team that. Beat that Sandiego game like we lose. I said like there's no roster there's no coaching staff there's no quarterback. There's no defense ever in forty five years history of the buccaneers that win that game except what we have on the field that day like no other team ever wins that game of the chargers game but I'm with you man like it's it's you can't do those type of things respect the win, and of course, going to be a little too short and then they had to fly short week then they had fly and we'll get. And I get all that. But you know I was sitting there thinking, Brenton your you this an Oldie but a goodie when you hear you know you're GonNa hear Scott Smith and Casey Phillips and Karma tally this week a lot say no one cares more than these players I was saying about half half of that third quarter I'm going fucking bullshit because now Brady, he cares as much as I care. 'cause he gave them a you know talking to after that debacle of dry with couldn't get out of their own way but you don't game. But you don't do that like you like you don't. You don't put yourself in that spot in a really charged Jensen's. But because you saw when Kishan von cut that ball and was running back Jensen was right there. He's like Gimme Gimme. GimMe the ball. But and this is another thing. This is like the third game I felt there was no energy from the team especially on the defensive side of the ball where it felt like they were going through the motions almost from the snap I know it's completely unfair and and a happens to be all the games that there's no fans at all. But you know they you can't yell to offense because they do you know time they get the ball, they go down to score they scored. Tonight. No. In the first quarter, they get the ball I go down at school or like they do it all the time and I think they're leading the league in points scored and points differential and all that kind of stuff but it just feels like it until someone gets mad or until someone gets burnt summerlike starts flapping gums and players face. That's when things start to get going took until halfway through the third for Brady to to tell the offense to do it, and by then it was you know it was just it was too late. Mattie I think else. Yeah.

"To the Buccaneers Observer podcast. This is Ralph Phillips. Molly Bay day is October 7th. June twenty still still feeling good after the win let you I am I am a little nervous about playing so soon found. I don't like the I like having a week to savor the wind, you know gets the point what you know is a really good win bucks nation is really happy about this month and we only get what two or three days to celebrate but you know, what here's what's going to happen. We're going to have more days of celebrate after we will pop up on the Bears. That's true Silver Lining Two Scoops glass-half-full, right? Okay. We got a big program for you tonight. We are going to talk about The game we haven't talked about the game. I know at all. That's what we were missing. We were talking about before the podcast were like, okay, what do we got to cover? We got to cover the the game film wage and the Chicago game. There's something else we could remember what it was and we gotta talk about the game. Yeah. Okay. So we're going to cover the game give you our thoughts on it. And then I'm going to go over the game film off and they were going to talk about the poor Chicago Bears. They were getting a double. I feel no pity for him. No pity me neither. All right, so we're getting fat checks or follow-ups. Do you have any notes on anything? Yeah, I have a ton of notes. Okay. Yeah, we got news too. So stick around for that. What do you want to cover first? Let's let's talk about the Chargers game. Okay. Let's talk about charge again. We can talk about that forever. As far as I'm concerned is a great game except here's the thing it went exactly exactly how we said it was going to go except the exact opposite. I said I said the we were going to get up off the Chargers and then we were going to take foot off the gas and they were going to struggle back and and get within one score of us. But now we struggled first. Yeah, we don't really struggle came back home. They they got lucky about that. I liked it. So let's go with that. What were your thoughts on the game while you're not so instant react hi down for days. And we watch the game twice already or I have anyway. That first quarter felt so familiar are the first half really felt so familiar, you know, we get down 24-7. Was it a missed field-goal the Pick 6 and it just felt like the same old bugs and then we just come back and it was an amazing comeback what I love the most about the game was winning Yeah. Well, yeah, but the Pick 6 And I'm not trying to knock on Jameis but it's just kind of it's not necessarily about Jameis. It's about how the team was before was that last year's a pick-six would have defined the whole game like it would. It all be downhill from there right after the Pick 6 and yeah, it was often it kind of flavored the game, you know and took time. It didn't like it was just kind of an asterisk like you almost forget about it towards the end. You're like, oh, yeah. We had a pick-six. Sex and it just wasn't a big deal. Tom Brady was able to come back from it. It didn't even Shake him know like he just got back on the field and I was like, yeah. Okay. Let's see us again Teflon Tom. Yeah. He was just he was just like water off a duck's back. Yeah, there were so many good things. First of all Row Joe now. During the game Ralph was screaming like stopped giving it to ro Joe. This is like the best game you ever had and I found out later. It's because Reagan benched him and fantasy and those the only reason and now when I go in a row Joe and I'm like who's team? Are y'all what the hell was the point and all Buccaneers fantasy team and you bench the buck in the air and then Scotty Miller was the same thing just crush it. And yeah Dimension. I haven't really been paying a whole lot of attention to fantasy football this year. And I I've forgot that I had benched Rajah legally story. Well, I would have put him in but you know, I mean, we we have a busy weekend so I check it. I think I checked it when we got to the bar and I was like, oh crap. I didn't play Road Joe well too late now and then here they are. They're just dumping it to him and he gets her I was like what well dead. His hands were not great like he ran great but he had those drops and so that was a little frustrating but you know, it is what it is. We knew that about Road. Oh that's been religious issue. It was last year topic. They're running backs coach talked about it. They worked on it in the offseason with him. And so I mean, I don't really hold against rodeo at this point. It's just the he is what he is. Yeah Levon job to pass to be able to if you dropped passes in this game, the one the bond was thrown behind him a little bit, but it's still bounced off. His hands. Just catch it. Yeah agreed. Yeah, but yeah, I had to that he just right in his hands popped right out Mike Evans phenomenal performance my favorite Mike Evans plight. Well, there were two and one was not really a play. The first one was that end zone reception where I swear to God he jumped how to be like sixty they're dead. So high, I don't really know how high is exceeded don't have a video set. It was so high he jumped. Yeah. Yeah. It was a great pass by Brady to an got that touchdown got the feet in bounds so that the second favorite play was when he got into a fight with that cornerback and he shoved them. Yeah. Yeah, and then after he shoved him like everybody was staying around and Mike acted like he was walking away and then he stepped back at him and did like a fake Flinch like he was going to punch him. You know, they got jumped off now he did get flagged for that one and I can't remember. Yeah, and then we end up going three-and-out. So whatever. There was I don't know if it was that same play that Jensen actually picked him up and took him away from it. Yes. That was a there was a wait know what you know, it's bad when Jensen all people is carrying you away from a fight. Yes. If Jensen is having to pull you away from a fight you have got some fighting but I just I love my temper. I take no issue with it whatsoever. He's learn it if you ask me like if you're like, okay, he's going to get a personal foul penalty like once every three or four games. I'm like, I'll take it given his production and kind of job that you like that fire. You don't somebody who doesn't give a shit. It has gotten a lot better with his temperament. Absolutely since that Marshon Lattimore incident. Yeah. I got suspended, I got suspended for that one and since then it seems like he's kind of chilled out but Do you know how many yards.

"Cancer and yeah and so Anybody out there. Saint Jude's the best in the world unbelievable I tell you I had an opportunity to spend a lot of time and I was just floored by the people love to compassion. I mean they as though holes barred there and we will one of those lost. Our you know but anybody that that that was accessible thing even that we did because it was so awesome and so yeah so the grandkids all over everywhere Three in California. We have In North Carolina we have three and Hamburg Germany. And then we have a one in the in Bat Ruth and love it Greg. What is your your adopted. Children those defensive players from the Chicago Bears Your fondest memory of. You got to coach Brian. Brian Urlacher in his rookie of the year defensive rookie of the year season. What's your fun this memory of the guys that you coached in Chicago? Well I'm GonNa tell you what we're in two thousand one. We had a defense. That was just unbelievable. The chemistry Camaraderie it was. It was something that was special That whole season With those guys was something really really unique We had nine. Eleven happened and disrupted the season and we were concerned that would Be a big issue for the guys to get back in mentally playing football but these guys did it themselves. I mean they. They pushed each other challenged each other and In all my years of coaching that was by far the best group. I ever coached Reggie white that was a super player but that that combination guy pet and Prime and work and Michael Brown and all those guys you know. They were awesome and Death Times even now when I'm sitting here having a killer I remember about some of you know days in those guys. Stay in touch with quite a few of them do you. I was just ask you that. Who Have you spoken to recently? Fella you that I stay in touch communicate with Ted Washington Brian I text back and forth I haven't seen him since. Tablets the hall of fame but But we do we still Ebay at tech stuff back and forth retire. Isn't that funny? I know all right. So I'm going to ask you like Phillip Daniels. One of the nicest gentleman such a calm man Such a good guy. What was he like to coach a pleasure? I mean 'cause he was like a sponge anything you said he he wanted. He wanted information. He wanted to get better. You want to be the best that he could be and he was willing to work not just on the field but in the classroom in the weight room his diet He was a cop with pro. And that's why when I went to Washington and he became available We bought him to Washington with him. 'cause he was like another coach in the room he could take. You can give him a rookie. And there's Times I would. I'd say you got so and so taking money away and help them and he was just phenomenal at doing that. He's coaching now isn't he? Is He coaching? He just got? Let go by Philadelphia because of politics. 'cause his beeline was distracted. Football team early in the season. We're struggling with the secondary. That was a group that kept them together so it was. It was inside politics which happens timing coaching And so yeah so right. Now we're in trying to get him relocated because he's active football coach. I love it so that means you're making phone calls for him. Well there's nothing really happened right now but yes. I would love it a couple of emails out folks. No you know they see the wire and just let them know but it happened so late. Most people were already you know put together right and you also mentioned the the the one guy when people say to me who is. It's easy when people say who is the greatest athlete that you've ever covered or who. Who is your favorite player that you've ever covered then when they would say who was the meanest guy you ever covered. Oh Ted Washington Ted Washington. He was he. Was You our God? By far by far Greg he he was so mean he would try to do. Give us the stare down across the locker room. You know he'd do that. Kinda stare down and then he'd growled. Us. I mean it's the only time I have ever had a player actually growl. Hey Ted do you have a second? Let's talk about the game coming up her. I was like I turned around. I said did he really just growl me I think he just growled at me. You're gonNa tell me he's a good guy. Are you act like guy? I'll come if you ever want to go on. If you ever WANNA go facebook. He cooked two three times a week and as food is unbelievable. I may need you to. We may have to do like a makeup session here and have him come on I am not convinced I just I. It's one of those people. It's GonNa take a lot to convince me that he was a nice guy. He was tough guy. But I like most athletes there guys that you want to go to war with most media. They just hated us so accepted. Let's move on because I'm not gonNA make you say anything bad about Ted. Let's move on to nothing. I can think of to say bad about. Gosh let's move on to the greatest Player that I had the honour to cover Brian. Urlacher man just watching him blossom like he did and still staying as humble as he was but yet you could see the point. That guy hated to lose. He hated to lose. Tell me your summary of Brian Lacquer. I'm so proud of him But just what you just That he blasts them he got better and better and all the stardom never ever changed him. You know he's he's always stay grounded and that I was so proud of him for that He had he was gifted with a lot of lettuce them but he used it in the right manner. And a Lotta guys Have THAT. They don't use it properly and he did and he kept his humility. And that's that's unbelievable. You'd see right now at a Guy Tweeden and complaining and whatever brand never ever ever complain publicly and that's always I always respected him for actually come in and he talk to be about it and we talk about it but yeah he was. He was incredible incredible young man. It was it was one of those players for me to look back and say you know I covered Michael Jordan. I covered Brian Urlacher. I covered some of baseball's greats in Chicago and the hockey greats in Chicago with the Stanley Cups. And the guys that were at the end of their careers who were were great as well. So it's nice for us to be able to sit back on the couch now and look back and say yeah. These were some really pretty amazing athletes. We were lucky enough to be able to work with and Greg. I'm lucky enough that you picked up the phone. I appreciate you so much thank you. Oh not a problem. Actually I've looking at cell phone. Let me see. We have about five telemarketers the afternoon and almost a third album. Just pick it up just to mix Turkey and I'm glad I did. I'm glad you did as well. I think of you all the time. When my brother gives me his venison and I think about give me some venison and I think I may have given you some homemade split pea soup and returned. I think that was the deal and so it was always nice to be able to chat outside of work and you were one of my favorites that I was able to chat with an. I can't thank you enough for picking up the phone. I wish you good health and I wish you and your family nothing but the best great I right Greg. Thank you Carla. We don't always get a chance to to just pick up the phone and phone a friend and they actually pick up. Sometimes you just gotTa bring in a family member. Go ahead and phone a friend you know Mary Schmidt of the Chicago Tribune had a column that I swear she was talking directly to me and it was about to Nag or not to Nag. Though is that don't follow the social distance guidelines this to me. I'm a little anal. So it's very frustrating. We are not used to being told that we cannot do things that people living in a free society are used to doing. And that means like coming and going as we please hanging with your friends boyfriends girlfriends. Senior grandchildren children. That don't live with us. Your parents you know it. It's just not natural for us to be told you can't see them. It drives me a little crazy because we are trying really really hard to follow the rules. I find myself getting annoyed at everybody. I mean everybody. It's like hey dude. That's touching everything in the grocery store and then deciding to put it back that you don't want to buy it and you don't have gloves on either. Oh my God. You're driving me crazy. How about the one that has no mask and you're leaning over me trying to get something off the shelf and you like basically bump into me to get what you want dude. I'm going to next. I'm going to turn around and smack you. I swear to God and makes me scream. Is everyone adept into the rules? Just to fit their own life style. I mean I feel like sometimes it's everyone is kind of looking at it like well. It's not in my family. It's not in my neighborhood. It's not our virus. Believe me this is frustrating for everyone involved. Please just try to follow the rules get it. We all have rules within our households. You know it's like we don't tell other people how to raise their kids. Don't tell me how to live my life. I get it I get it I get an I am trying to be very accepting of what others do during cove. Nineteen shelter at home But it's not just about you and your loved ones and maybe about your neighbor maybe about someone else and their loved one and because of that. I'm asking please just try the sooner. We all tried. Follow the rules. The quicker life is going to return to normal and like everything else in our life. I will bite my lip because none of us follow all the rules all the time we do what works for us and besides it's okay to go sixty and sixty five if the speed limit's fifty five so.

"Oh that's the kind of runs a golf pool. We won't say his name out loud. I Have Greg blache the former Chicago bears defensive coordinator all right. Let's see let's see if we're going to be able to get a hold of anybody. Okay Selah what do you think hi? I'm looking for Greg. Blache speaking college. It's Peggy Kuczynski in Chicago. Do you remember reading doing. Thank goodness I found you do you have. Do you have a second to come on my podcast? A super catching up time. Nothing serious nothing tough so. My daughter picked a letter out of a baggy and we went through my Rolodex. Okay it's contacts now. I'm showing how old I am and the letter was G and this name came up. Greg blache former defensive coordinator for the Chicago bears and I was like what the heck. Let's try it greg. Is this really you yep coach? How are you? How are you extremely? Well it is so great to hear Your Voice. I want to tell our listeners. I covered you when I was working with NBC. I covered the bears for twenty something years and in Ninety Nine. I think it was ninety. Nine is at the year you start. You came to the bears with with Dick Giron and we had such a great time. Now I will say this Greg. You didn't really like the media but I got along with you. Actually I thought you guys to think about it was this. I was about the head guys my player. I have to come attack and so wasn't like I didn't like you guys 'cause I'm still close friends with a Lotta people but it was just a a position I was put in. You had some of the funniest lines ever the time that you told us about Miss Cleo that that's where you got all your information from what was what was the said. Do you remember that instance like what were we questioning you on? I have no idea and really I don't remember but yeah you basically exactly because you said that you don't get your information from the newspapers or from the media you get. I got to tell you that was some great times. What are you doing these days? Let me I catch up and see if you're retired now. So how? How are you keeping busy? We've traveled Going TO AFRICA PRE time. Something we've been crease Italy and I'll kind of places We do one a year. You know kind of trips and we have kids during the summer because we live up in the woods on a lake and it's just kind of Thank busy honestly when I I had. I didn't know how had the work isn't that something. It's like all of a sudden you're saying well how I so busy before because I'm so busy now so did you just say thank. You went hunting in. Africa is for the Big Five. No no no I I have planes game What is that we can? You know things like Jumped the buck and Bush buck and Or I mean there's different types of playing games that I had ellen felt kind of stuff. Wow but Everything we hunted. The food went to the people which was really good. I love that idea. You said You. You like to travel Did you have to put off any travel plans or did you get stuck with travel this year because of Covid nineteen? Oh yeah well we were driving this year and actually in Baton Rouge when this all broke out and Actually my son and I went Texas hunting my wife was in Baton Rouge and she called me and says hey get back here to closing everything now. We need to get home. And so we up the car and got back up into the woods and Yeah so it's it's the fact we were supposed to be going from Bedrooms Wallace. The Florida recount. All that shot and got back here. And you're originally from New Orleans right. I thought so that my son was supposed to go to two lane to visit and literally two days before we were leaving on the trip. They cancelled everything. And you know he didn't get to go and visit but boy they were hit so hard right after Mardi Gras do you. Do you have family there? Is Everybody Okay so good yes? I lost a high school teammate. That really hit me hard. Took around And that was upsetting. But he's only real close person. I know that his pants from it. So far it's just so it's hard for all of us to kind of put into words. Would none of us have really been had this kind of freedom taken away from us before how do you? How is this going to you coached for two decades? How are they going to do the NFL draft remotely and give me an idea what the coach's role is in the draft room? And how do you think this is going to change? How are they going to be able to pull this off? Actually for that crew coaches process about change at all because we would never New York. You know what they did this before You had a representative that turn the card in now. You do the either by email or whatever but it won't change a thing. The players the biggest thing that the players what I'll be collected one place. That's the only real tanks. It feels kind of like fantasy football. Drafting when US idiots seriously greg when when I would do by fantasy football drafts I would have twenty pages in front of me and it'd be split by my top say forty players and all different positions and then I would have him by player individually and it seems like once you're board is done. Your board is done in. Is there that much input from the coaches before a pick anyways? Well it depends on the station from organization organization I've been at one place where we had no input at all. I've been in other positions where we had a lot of input and it dependent on a general manager and it depended on A. Y'All wow how you still watching games I come I really watch a whole football game I I get on my typical and I watched the first half of one and then Listen to the second half but a Lotta Times I come in my work. I'm just watch it on a computer. Just keep track all the different scores. And if something's getting really close like the packers because that's what we get on. Tv here I'll go and watch a two minute drill but other than that. I prefer just watch the scores because announces drive me crazy. Isn't it great when I love hearing from football guys? Once they're retired and they become a fan in front of the TV and they must drive. You guys crazy listening. But I thought hey. The announcers their former athletes their former players. They're supposed to know it. Don't they tell you one? Tony Romo knows it. I joy lifted the penalty. He does the game and he covers it. Like you know like a coach. I like a player A lot of the other coaches go in and and their own. Maybe a little different Pella Guy. You know what I'm saying but with comments things so it puts them in a little bit different position but like for me of. I'm a guys right now. I love Tony Romo. I think he does. Excellent job and So I enjoy it must of the guys who like to put the headphones on and not all of some of the guys. I like to put my headphones on on the elliptical and listen to the temptations because there's truth to that okay so let me bring out the old Greg blache now come on. Who Do you really cannot stand? Listen to do a football game. Nobody that I just can't stand but yet each other guys they'll say something you know what I'm saying. They'll say something that You kinda go you know. That's not really yourself right and it just kind of irks a little bit. None of the guy's terrible not none of them at all. Okay so you have tried. I'm like still got it. You could still work the press conference. Greg. You could still work the press conference so you. If I'm correct you went from Indianapolis shake to the Redskins. So now you're in the Green Bay market for to be able to way up your way. I'll sorry. Oh my gosh you really are way up there what do you do the would. What is it like survivor? It's not quite that bad. We have supermarket in town. We have about three churches and about Thick Barn. Grocery store six churches three bars or three bar. Three churches six bars which is typical. My Dad lives in Wisconsin. We still have a summer place in Wisconsin so yeah near portage so near near Portage Lake Mason Mason. Lake used a great fishing. So Yeah we've had a place up there for years. But that's the one thing I do remember is that you loved to hunt. And that was your off season getaway. How often now are you getting out to hunt and to to enjoy yourself during the year? Not Having to worry about football at very beauty year but I usually get one big kind of year like the Canada Africa. And then I may do one in my own me or Arizona Texas this. I I do a lot of hunting. I was in Louisiana in January. I took my granddaughter Who spent eighteen took her deer hunting hours though and she was really excited. I'm sorry your thirteen year old granddaughter. Yeah I love it. I watched she. She's been wanting to actually. I took it again before. We didn't get anything and this time she did so. It was really neat. My goodness how many grandchildren do you have greg? We have Twelve now oh. My goodness walked onto.

I can't really saying anything because like I don't know how like all the seniors in eighth graders in like the people that are just graduating from eighth grade senior years like like senior in college like I don't know how they feel like so I can't really say I feel. I feel like heartbroken that like my school year increase. Their school years ruined out of everyone. How would it make you feel if there was no summer camp I would understand and I would like I would understand like realize why it's better than go to get sick there. Then be the worse. I would feel our be really sad because I've looked forward to camp for so long and all in like me and my friends have been looking forward to that for so long at Stewart like every year and this would be my third year going. So it'd be it'd be fun to go but I don't know it can happen. My advice is to just like just like actually. I don't really have advice but I got nothing. You got nothing but no not really no teachers visiting been like you guys doing so good. We'll get through this together. It's like okay so turn your teachers talk even the guys. There's only one guy teacher. Okay so listen so I thought for our Minneapolis owed that. I would phone a friend because I'm going to be really honest with you I am. I'm getting a little crazy. I I'm struggling. I would say this week has been hard for me. I'm hitting the wall. Even though I have organized every photo I went through John. Norma's boxes of pictures. Those are all organized. They are scanned into the computer. They are all backed up. They are categorized in my computer by child by vacation by trip. I mean so I have done so much organizing at home. I've hit the wall so I like I don't like talking on the phone but I have. I have realized I like zoom. I do like seeing people I feel like I'm being a little bit more social with them and I know you don't like when I do Zil do your I. I'm fine with the now run. You see you dislike young. You're having fun but done Jason's like sick of it ever my family's second doing and I'm just fine with it because you know I'm partially deaf now. Okay so we are going to phone a friend. I am going to put all these letters in this baggy. You can't see it at home but I have a ziplock bag with letter from the alphabet. Eight Z. And we're going to just go through my contacts on my phone and you're going to try to read some of the names on my phone. She and we'll decide who were going to call and see if we can get a hold of them. Sift would join me. You're not going to be in on this because you're not going to know who any of them are. So pick a letter fouquet. The letter is g g arena person. You have to just start reading some of the names that are in my contacts and I'm GonNa take my other phone and I'll start looking in my phone and go through some of the Geez as well even the last night and let's see if this actually works you can show me. Let's see Greg. You could say that. Grad Gabriel Oh. That would be good because he is the former Scouting director for the Chicago bears. let's see. I also have okay. I Have Jeff Glick. Who is my former producer at NBC Channel Five? Yeah Jeff with the G. And his last name is also at the G. Gordon Beckham former White SOx baseball player. Is that yours..

"And if if you were taking it for granted, and you're lazy and your position was poor. You had a coach they're calling you out and saying what kind of stances that gotta have a nice balance stance. We got three points ready to move either forward or left or right, depending upon where you're going. It all has to look the same that way the offensive lineman. Doesn't know what I'm gonna do. I don't tell them. Exactly give them. No tau. All gotta look the same. It's gotta be the same every single time. Now getting to second eight plus you get in the third day. Plus is going to be a pass. You can go ahead and pin years back and come after the quarterback, we all know the boss going be passed while they're going to throw the damn thing. So we all know that. But that's the first thing you do. So he's basically saying take nothing for granted. Whatever you thought you knew make sure you know, when you come in every single year you also this season was fantastic for the Chicago Bears. There's no guarantee next year is going to be fantastic for the Chicago Bears. So you've got to come in with the same sort of hunger. Right. You can't come in with any satisfaction of what you did last year. And you've got to reestablish a Mojo, you got to reestablish a new dynamic because what happened last year is gone. This is a new team with the new dynamic going and trying to get things done this year. So that's that's what he's talking about. There's always some regression, or at least they're normally is the takeaway thing is the one that jumps out to us more than any other. That doesn't mean they still can't be a completely dominant defense. You're probably not going to have what did they have thirty twenty eight interceptions, and they had like thirty three hundred thirty six thirty six eight fumble recoveries, you're not going to have thirty six takeaways next year. And I gave you that stat that I did the I look back the last ten seasons the team that led the league in takeaways never in any of the last ten seasons had more takeaways the next year, they all regress. That's what it shows you, right? That that that that's inevitable. Now, you could still be very good at it. You can force a lot of takeaways. You could still be a very good defense without all that. But that's the interesting mentality is taking nothing for granted. And we're starting over again next year. We didn't even win a playoff game guys. Unfortunately. So we got to go back to work and do it again. This was Chuck. Pagon how he would describe his defensive style. Wreak havoc. And be calculated want to be aggressive. Want to dictate the temple? Premium on fundamentals and techniques put a premium on the ball. Like, we talked about before taking the thing away. Nobody did it better than the bears. You know last year with thirty six twenty seven interceptions. Quarterback stopping the run getting them in third long. So we can so we can be creative, and we can be aggressive, and you know..

"Thirty degrees. Some light freezing drizzle. We do have some snow flurries in the area right now as well today, mostly cloudy. This is what we're going to be seeing a high of about thirty two tonight becoming clear a low of twenty three Thursday, mostly sunny skies with a high of thirty six degrees right now thirty at O'Hare thirty one midway twenty nine degrees in Glen ellyn. Thirty one degrees along Chicago's lakefront. I'm Ryan burrow in the WGN newsroom, and we have taken down all of the Christmas decorations. So we're ready to join the conversation live, whatever story changes such cargoes very own seven twenty WGN. Chicago bears. Wendy. Learn. With your t for me. Oh that was that's the part. You remember you'll know it by February. Yes, you will bring the bus yet. I'm driving the bandwagon shoe. So that's a train the bears started out in week one. They played the Green Bay Packers. They looked like the bears of all they look at the bears that are right in the game until it they need to be in the game. And then they they blew it. I said this team is awful. I can't watch this team. Then they heard what I said. And they said we'll show you Bill what we can do. Well, thank you for them. They've been amazing as you're taking responsibility. I'm gonna take. No. And I I've said this in the past I can't truly be what the kids like to call a bears fan because I denounce them. I said horrible things about the bears, and I've been doing that for years and years and years, and I've been right until this year this year, they really they they look like they know what they're doing. Great defense. Offense has some flaws kicking has a lot of flaws, but the defense alone amazed kicking is unacceptable. Horrible. I I mean, I'm sorry. I. I felt really bad when it's Cody parkey, right? I shouldn't even really know his name for why I know his name when he hit those four wasn't goalpost. Don't do that in a career. So then I did it today. The precision to actually put it on a goalpost is pretty impressive. Imagine if we could just focus that precision, right? And he he redeemed himself and did a great job. But now his still made a couple of errors. I mean, it's they're not confident in him as a kicker, and you need to be confident in your kicker, and they shouldn't be confident enough. And isn't it frustrating to that Robbie goals a free agent, but he's still under contract with the forty Niners? Even though they're not in the playoffs. And and he told our own Adam Hoge on a conference call that he's going to be at the bears. Sitting with his son as a fan. He's still lives in the suburbs. Interesting. Yeah. Side of bring him down the jersey, right or is kid. Let us kid hit will do best. Mom, somebody. You'll be fine. You'll be thrown out. I have watched the last couple of games. I've enjoyed what I've seen. They've really looked like a good Trubisky. Right. Yeah. Well, it's the. The main strength of that team is their defense. Oh, really? Right. This is the best quarterback we've seen in a long line. And you know, you can talk about the punky QB all you want. Jim McMahon was the character was he that great? He was not great. He would he got the job done. Right. Wasn't. He. In the annals of football history. When they talk about the great quarterbacks his name will not. But he he got the job done. And he was very extremely confident isn't the greatest bears quarterback of all time. Jay Cutler, doesn't have the most towns. Many many of the bears categories is because he did it for disappointment. Us an eternity. Well, no. It seemed like one absolutely how long was he with five years Ryan with us. So I am loving Matt Nagy. Yeah. Yeah. I don't like the way he says his name it should be Nagy. If it were nagging, it would be too. Geez. Why haven't you call them and told them this? I don't know if he needs your input. I just don't like how it sounds. Maybe it's because I hear that word at home a lot. That's why that's definitely why wouldn't you say Nagy? There's one g. Whatever he's doing a good job job. And he takes a lot of risks. Yeah. There have been several ways. Yes. And just you know when they probably should be kicking a field goal. I guess I just figured it out. Who's gonna kick the field goal field goal? You may as well. Just try and do the play. Yeah. All right. Well, it's worked to his advantage more times than not. Yeah. I'm saying press. You should be impressed. I am too. And I went to preseason bears two years ago when Mitch Trubisky was just starting had a great time with my friends sue has season tickets. We went I was talking about Trubisky, you know, play complete. I never heard that in Soldier Field. I hadn't for many years. And I said he's the one and you're like, yeah. Believe it when I see it. He's a pretty good quarterback. He has pretty good precision. He can run the ball that. I'll give him that. Is that hasn't been really an option for the bears quarterbacks in a while. But when he sees there's no play in front of smart. Art enough to know or I could just run, and he does and he's been successful. Yeah. By the way, Jay Cutler holds fourteen franchise records back completions. Pass attempts passing yards passing touchdowns passer rating sacks pass passing yards per game. Three hundred plus passing. Though, right. Yeah. But. You don't wanna you? Don't want to be the all time. As a team. That's right. That's sometimes the offensive hawkiness. You led all time cockiness most kids look for an autograph rating cockiness nothing to deliver with their cockiness. Like again, going back to Jim McMahon. He delivered you give a guy cockiness if he delivers like Jim McMahon, you go. This is the cocky guy I've ever seen are they winning. Yeah. So all right. You get the cockiness that team was coming in last. And he was cocky, how does that happen? I think of when I think of Jay Cutler is his uninterested face and him just going. Yeah. That's all Goto response. AJ? You guys lost by thirty one points again. That's it. That's all you give me. So is he the reason you're sour to the bears? This is your pie chart of reason, your style, Brian. It's a big part of it. But they also had this can't hurt you anymore. No. I guess I get. No, I guess he can't. That's that's a good point. That's a good point. All right. Someone says that he does pronounce it Nagy. But the media says Nagy, and he just lives with it. Because a lot of people Schneider to me even people in the sales department. I find it very funny. I've heard them introduce me to people. This is Wendy Schneider Schneider. Interesting. So super on one day at a time. Exactly. The tool belt on me. Do you need an answer to that? I should wear to work. I understand. But now, I gotta know is it really Nagy. If it is we have twenty nineteen seem weird to say he seems to bold to let that I'll tell everyone I'll go on. All these sports shows get Mike and Mike on the line get Mike and Mike. I'll tell them idiots. It's pronounced Nagy. But I have to know for sure I got bad news about that show by them. Don't do it right now. Too early. Great. But don't do it. Mike fight with Mike Mike with Mike. They're fine. Just not together. How do we use too strong of a personality? Like if everyone in the press was saying his name wrong. He would at some point go. Oh, by the way, guys. Now that we're in the playoffs. Could you could you say it the right way? He would do that with me. Now, you don't think so right now he just is trying to prove that he can be a winner. And somebody says I like Nagy too. He just needs to lose the stupid visor. Can I just tell you? I'm not a really big fan of visors. But he wears it. Well, visors a good thing for him. Now, we're hearing the visor when it's raining it's snowing because that was the biggest criticism is why we're the visor to expose your head when it's raining. It's snowing. I don't really know. He looks good in invited. Some guys can pull off a visor on that one of those guys. But he looks good advisor would look pretty funny. He does. He he wears it. Well, I gotta say, yeah. All right. Let's do this. When we come back when I d for those of you who are attending the playoff game on Sunday your bears in your eagles. I have a list of the things you are allowed to bring in with you. I have a list of the things you are not allowed to bring some of them will surprise you some of them will you don't understand that like visor. Can't can you bring a visor in? Yes. All right. I hope you're right. I don't know how we'll find out cliffhanger. All right. Well, we'll take a quick break. And then there's more of this spilling one year WGN. Twenty.
