Michigan man says son, 6, ordered $1K in food from Grubhub

"A Michigan man was stuck with $1000 worth of charges last weekend after a 6 year old son started ordering a virtual smorgasbord of food from several restaurants. You might be able to guess what happened. I'm Ben Thomas with the explanation. Key stonehouse says the food piled up quickly it is Detroit area home Saturday night after he led his son mason use his cell phone to play a game before bed. The 6 year old instead found his way onto his father's Grubhub account. Mason ordered jumbo shrimp, salads, shawarma, and chicken pita sandwiches, chili, cheese fries, and more Keith caught on when one Grubhub driver after another started showing up at their Chesterfield township home with the food. Wife and mother Kristen stonehouse had gone to the movies for the evening, but she tells the AP Grubhub has reached out and offered the family a $1000 gift card and is considering using the family in a promotional campaign. "Sunny highs in the upper 40s. Good afternoon, I'm sandy cosell with the top local stories we're following this hour. The delay in electing a House speaker had an impact on local laws passed by the D.C. council and signed by mayor Bowser. Before bills in the district can officially take effect and become law, they must be reviewed in Congress for 30 days. In this week's case, that 30 day period could not begin until a speaker was in place. D.C. council chairman film mendelsohn says more than 50 pieces of legislation that were recently passed by the council are currently awaiting congressional review. Now to Rockville, where lowering the voting age is being considered in local elections. The proposal is to allow 16 year olds to vote. We were looking at making changes to try to increase the number of voters that participated in city elections. Tim mail was on the Tacoma Park City council from 2011 to 2017, and he was an advocate for lowering the voting age. I started digging into the topic which hadn't been done yet in the United States, but is not uncommon in the rest of the world. He says 16 and 17 year olds drive have jobs and care about their communities, so letting them vote. It just seemed like a great idea. Other places in Maryland then lowered the voting age to 16 for local elections, Nick alley WTO P news. The Virginia state police department's criminal justice databases are back in operation. A spokesperson says state police have restored all but two data systems and web pages adversely impacted by an outage that lasted about 30 hours. It happened Thursday morning when a fire suppression system was triggered by a water Lake in a data center in north Chesterfield, Virginia. The computerized criminal history and the Virginia firearms transaction V check system are now back in service for the benefit of magistrates, the courts and anyone wanting to purchase a firearm. About 1800 background check requests had been submitted during the outage. The Virginia sex offender and crimes against minors registry website are also back online and accessible to the public. The search is underway by police to find the mother of three who lives in Massachusetts, but works in real estate in D.C.. She's been missing since New Year's Day. She said she had a work emergency and had to fly to D.C., but local police say there are no signs she got in a ride share to the airport or even on a flight or cell phone has also been turned off. Very difficult as you know nowadays not to leave electronic footprint, some type of footprint which are debit cards, credit cards, and none of these things have been active since the first of the year. Cohasset, police chief William, quickly says Walsh also has a townhouse here in the district. We've been working with Washington, D.C. metro police have searched the townhouse. But still no signs of Walsh. And hopefully we can get a phone call from her or someone that she knows that will let us know that she's okay. Luke Luger WTO P news. "New tonight, a former counselor at a Northern Virginia middle school has been charged with providing false information to the state's sex offender registry. Virginia state police say they've arrested 50 year old Darren Thornton today in Richmond. Thornton's tenure as a counselor at Glasgow middle school in fairfax county has prompted multiple investigations. He was arrested in 2020 for solicitation of a minor as part of an online sting operation in Chesterfield county, Thornton was convicted and ordered to register as a sex offender, but he remained employed as a school counselor. Fairfax county public schools did not place him on leave until this past June when he was again charged in a second online sting by Chesterfield police. This week though, police acknowledged the emails they sent to fairfax county public schools, never went through because of typos in the email address. The county superintendent Michelle Reed met today with nearly two dozen families at Glasgow middle school. She says mistakes were clearly made that enabled a counselor to remain employed despite a conviction for soliciting prostitution of a minor. School board member ricardi Anderson says it's a county wide problem, a third party investigation into the incident is now underway. "We'd go to Scotland together and climb Monroe's and it kind of grown up on the edge of the peak district as well. It was it was something that, from an early age, I found a bit of an escape in really, but it was also books because I'm an avid reader, have been since I was a kid and again, my dad would give me these mountaineering classics, including books by women about their adventures in the mountains, and it was those that I found particularly exciting and relatable. And I think I'm really glad that he gave me those books. Yeah. Yeah, and one woman in particular that really inspired you. Yeah, Alison Hargreaves who was from bell pepper so not that far from where I grew up in Chesterfield in derbyshire. I found her I was going to say her story relatable. That sounds wrong because she was a world class mountaineer, and I'm someone who spends most of my time failing on easy climbs on hedging gritstone edges in the peak, but there was something about the way that she wrote about the things that climbing and that mountains gave her which I hugely identified with as a writer and as a climber. And of course, the landscape. I could sort of imagine her learning to climb in all these places where I went to as well. And I found myself going back to that biography of her life into some of her experiences and when I became a mom because the way that she experienced motherhood felt the way she articulated that felt very relatable to me as well. Because your memoir is quite it's so beautifully written, Helen, and it is, it's you talking about your love of climbing, but also becoming a mother. First time mom, and so the opening scene is remarkable. It's you giving birth, and whilst you're having gasoline, you're actually thinking about climbing, aren't you? You're on a mountain. At the same time. You're in your happy place, which is on a mountain. Sort of. It's not a happy place. Yeah, no, it's always struck me that gas and air is very much it's like being a high altitude mountaineer. That was my little fantasy to get through the pain of labor was actually doing some high altitude mountaineering of the kind that I've never actually done in my ordinary on my life, but yeah, the physical ordeal. It felt it reminded me of running mountain marathons and stuff like that. Well, talking of high altitude climbing, I'm going to bring in Amy who definitely has. Your book is set on a mountain. It's a mountain that you've climbed, tell us about what took you to this moment because you know, you're not a you're not somebody like Helen, who's been climbing your whole life, are you, Amy. "Look people up just to put them up without the glove in order to do the right thing down to journal assembly. And that's the way things have been going on over the last couple of years with complete democratic dominance. Well that's the thing that concerns me about these elections every single time. I honestly i think if republicans were able to communicate at or be listened to for any reasonable amount of time. I think reasonable people would say. Wow okay i agree with that. I think that's a really good policy. The problem is is that the media definitely carry the democrats water and the messaging against republicans. Mix makes even the proudest republican wanna crawl in iraq. Sometimes because they're so demonized it. It's it's a. It's a situation where i think it's really difficult for republicans to get past this notion that there are racist. They don't care about kids. They want to run kids down with with black. Suv's and trucks or anything like that. I mean these kind of ridiculous ads that were run within the last week between the campaign between north angle. Spn lo and behold you know within first few months in the northern administration. We've got him on his page and kooks klan outfit and black face you know so how. How do republicans break through to people who aren't really paying attention and allied enough for them to be able to understand that. Republicans are not evil and they have their best interests in mind. Well i looked at the vote. Totals and they've been going the wrong way last number of years but that's because people in the suburbs especially mothers and mothers in the suburbs but Women in the suburbs younger women who are professionals have been voting democrat and consequence of that is higher taxes lousy education danger in the city's people suburbs may not care but i care i care about the community in the in the cities being endanger all the time and their kids being lured away into gangs and getting killed themselves. I think that's a terrible situation and we owe it to the people in the suburb cities and in rural areas. To deal with some of these issues. Drugs are a real problem. So what do we do. We send a message. Marijuana's okay i don't. You could argue about the details. But that's a fact. We have now sent a legalization of marijuana which implies that use drugs is okay and this is not what we ought to be doing. It leads into very dangerous situations. Overdoses thin all serious problems out. There that That lead to deaths in the community. Things are going the right way. If we talk the right messaging we talk about education taxes and spending law enforcement and explain that we want to own a different direction. I think we can get those votes. In places like fairfax county and enright go in chesterfield virginia beach and we can win the election ambassador. Martin it's always a pleasure to talk to you i. I know that we're probably running very short on time here. I do want to ask you though. I mean you have been around for for more than two decades as prosecutor as attorney general governor. "Even if every intelligence officer military personnel everything told biden sir. If you do this it will be the greatest catastrophe the world has ever known and then he said i don't care. We're doing it anyway. Because i've got to have the optics of being the president. The pull us out of war. Twenty years after september eleventh. If this wasn't on purpose the twenty-fifth amendment would have been in vote right. Then i need you to hear what i'm saying to you. The president is not limitless in his power. That's why the twenty fifth amendments there. That's why impeachments or there. That's why all this stuff is there because if somebody who is the president starts acting in a way that is completely and utterly insane just like the president can't just declare we're going to war right you President doesn't get gotta go before. Congress member george bush speech. I mean. that's how things work right. The president can't just be like screw this guy. He insulted my wife. Kill them all. Yeah can't do that okay. So you mean to tell me that every single decision maker every single research and intelligence person they all were so stupid. The dnc this coming. I saw somebody put a tweet. He's like. I don't support this getting rid of blinken millie and all these other people because we get rid of it. Then you've got all these newbies coming in that have no idea what's going on in the first place which can be argued. That would be better or worse. But i do agree with the idea of how in the world do all of those people make such a cataclysmic mistake unless it was on purpose calculated. How in the world does that happen. How do you end up china in. What is the largest hostage negotiation of all time and remember when we were talking about the other day. How we believe that. This is all an attempt to just flood america with future. Ilhan omar's and i saw that she actually caught wind of charlie and people like us talking about that idea in her response as she giggled. Good to know her response. Was we need to find a map because she's from somalia. No you ignorant the point is your family and you refugees and you don't share the american values that we share and now you're a congresswoman and it is blatantly obvious that you hate america. We don't need a map you moron. I'm well aware that you're not from afghanistan. The point remains the same that if we bring in all these refugees and they're talking about it right now so as hutchinson. I said we we talked to him as a hutchinson is one of the governors that has submitted their state. Arkansas one of the most republican states that there is has submitted. Arkansas as a refugee state bring bream and baby bring him in. He's also the governor that says he regrets there ever being into the mass mandate. He's a traitor a complete and utter rhino. He is a clown. But why arkansas is one of the strongest. since bill clinton bill clinton but since then arkansas has been a strong stronghold i saw south carolina on those too. I'm sure i'm sure because if you don't believe that the system is there in all these red states than you are blind legitimate. I'm here to tell you. I had a meeting chesterfield county campaign and i was talking to these people in jefferson and i told him straight up. I said the truth is our party. Doesn't care about you. They don't they don't care they don't care. No one cares. Lindsey graham voted for the infrastructure. Bill you don't think that they're trying to in fact i get these little things. He's talking points. I'm going to share some of the. I'm not going to tell you where it comes from or anything like that. But check to sell this little intel stuff that you get when you start running for congress all right. So biden's botched afghanistan withdraw. We'll continue to drive the news this week. However there is potentially a critical procedural procedural vote being cast in the house advanced the infrastructure bill in a way that allows it to be tied to biden's radical three point five trillion dollar spending bill. Democrats believe these bills must be passed together in order to unite their conference. Fda officially granted full approval. Just got just got it. They go get ready. How many more times. I mean we're times i gotta be right. I remember times we have to how many times to conservatives real conservative not republicans conservatives. How many times we have to be right. How many times do we have to tell you that there are things going on. You wanna tell me that this didn't happen on purpose and the people didn't know that this was a possibility and they people didn't dip people aren't we said it from the get-go i bet biden and last year and he's eight months in and it is not looking good here she comes. We gotta pull up. All those times we said to kamala is getting ready to blow. Ri- pass joe. Yeah you wonder where she's been. She's been getting ready for that speech. Yeah except in the position. Where is jill biden. Someone said has there ever been a least impactful first lady. Ever jill biden. Swear in the crappiest joe biden. Okay lee jim and let me explain this to you.

Why Does the Year Start on January 1?

"Every year. The earth orbits around the sun and we celebrate each revolution on new year's day. But what's so special about this particular spot in our orbit. Why do we use january first as the start of our year as opposed to some other day as we go back in history. Most human civilizations did not use a solar calendar they used. Lunar calendar's in fact if you look at the traditional calendars for countries such as china vietnam or for religion such as judaism and islam. They have lunar calendars and their new year's day changes it state every year. Our current calendar can be traced back to ancient rome. The very early romans way back at the founding of the city used to have ten months and that ten months system is still reflected in many of the names of our months today. Their first month was marcus named after the god mars which we call march after march came the months of april ass- maya's and junius the months after this. We're just named after their number until he has sex tellus september october november and december so yeah december are twelve months really means the ten months in latin likewise with november october and september however. Ten months didn't really fit nicely into a year. They had two full months worth of leftover dates. That didn't really fit into any month to rectify this around the year. Seven hundred pc. The roman king numa added two more months to the counter. I annual areas named after the roman god janus and february's which was now the last and shortest month of the year for romans. The beginning of each month was called the callan's so the start of the year was the callans of march or mark. I then at some point and no one is quite sure. When the year began being counted on the calendar of i warious january went from being the eleventh month to being the first month. This might have had something to do with the start of terms for consoles. Romans named their years after the two consuls and power instead of numbering them so for example the year fifty nine bc. Julius caesar wisconsin with kelp. Biblis it was known as the year of caesar bibi however was weak so there was a running joke that it was the year of julius. Caesar it might also had something to do with the fact that january i was the callans closest to the winter solstice. Caesar is actually really important to this story. While the names of the months were very similar to the months we have today. The keller itself was still a mess. Caesar instituted changes to fix this problem. Anti adopted the suggestions of a greek astronomer named side of alexandria suggested going to a tropical year more on that in a bit and created the three hundred sixty five day year with a leap year every fourth year. So that's pretty much. The story right. The roman set january is the first day of the year julius. Caesar sets the julian calender. And we get to where we are today. Nope because in the middle ages the system fell apart completely at the five sixty seven council of tours and there were a whole bunch of different councils of tours so you have to specify. The church declared that january. I was not to be celebrated as the new year as it was a pagan tradition. What replace january first. Well nothing there were. A whole bunch of different days celebrated oliver europe for centuries. Some places used christmas. Which was the winter solstice on. The julian calendar some use the floating date of easter someone back to the old roman march first. And some if you remember back to the episode on why. Christmas is on december twenty fifth us. The important date of march twenty-fifth start of the new year eventually. For a whole host of reasons pope gregory the thirteenth the problems with the julian calender and use the opportunity to standardize the new year back to being january first for good measure. They also made january first holiday which it still is. Today originally january. I was the feast of the circumcision of jesus. But now it's just called the solemnity of mary. Of course not. Everyone was on board with the new calendar. Catholic countries were quick to adopt it but protestant and orthodox countries were not in particular. One country was very late to adopt january first as the beginning of the new year. That country was england. England celebrated their new year on march twenty fifth. In fact their colonies in the americas. Did this as well up until seventeen. Fifty two in seventeen. Fifty england passed what was known as the calendar new style. Act also known as chesterfield's act which is when they adopted the gregorian calendar. The very first thing mentioned in the act was the problem with using march twenty fifth as the new year when everyone else in europe used january first including scotland so when england finally adopted january first as the start of the new year. So did the american colonies for the first time today. Most countries now use the gregorian calendar even if it's only for business purposes to stay instinct with the rest of the world new year celebration such as ted in vietnam chinese new year or rosh hashanah are still traditional festivities held on different days all over the world. The fact remains that there's nothing astronomically significant about january first even though it celebrating an astronomical event aka revolution around the sun so if we were starting new calendar from scratch. What would we pick before. I mentioned that sausage unease of alexandria suggested we celebrate a tropical year and pick that word carefully as opposed to a solar year because there are two types of solar years and they're very similar a tropical year is the time from one season to the next based on win the solstices occur. The current years based on the gregorian calendar are tropical years. However there's also a thing known as ideal year which is when we measure the position of earth based on the location of stars the difference between a ideal year and a tropical year is very small. He said you real year is only twenty minutes longer. This can add up. However the difference between the julian calendar and the gregorian calendar is only eleven minutes per year and that caused a lot of problems over the centuries this has to do with the procession of the orbit that is constantly changing their to logical places to define a new year based on astronomic principles. The i would be one of the solstices. This is something that humans have pictured for thousands of years and have recognized its importance. The winter solstice also is in too far away from january. First the solstice really has more to do with the tilt of the earth however and not the orbit of earth there is something significant about the orbited the earth. That is a point. We could use and oddly enough. It's really close to january. First even though the ancients had no clue the orbit of the earth around the sun is close to circular but it isn't perfectly circular it's a slight ellipse hence there is a point where the earth is closest to the sun. And it's called the para helium perihelion in the year. Twenty twenty one takes place on january second the date of para helium drifts. Over time in the year twelve forty-six para helium actually took place on the same date as the salsas in the year. Six thousand four hundred and thirty it will take place. On the spring equinox so january first is the start of our year which marks astronomical event even though the data itself has no astronomical significance set by the romans abandoned by the church only to be later adopted once again by the church so as the romans did celebrate the callans of january which honors janice the roman god with two faces one which looks into the past at the old year and one which looks into the future at the new

Virginia voter registration extended after website crash

"Election. 2020 Virginia voters got an extra day this year to register to vote. Sabrina Marino of the Richmond Times. Dispatch joins us on this story, Sabrina Marino explained what happened yesterday that led to today's extension. Yeah. So you know, yesterday with the whirlwind, as with everything nowadays, it kind of started with the tweets. And so yesterday morning, the Virginia Department of Elections posted that Horizon Cable was cut near the headquarters of an agency that you know, provided technical support for various states. Entities, you know, including the Virginia Department of Health and Virginia Employment Commission and, of course, the Virginia Department of Elections. So, basically the elections website crashed, which meant that on the last day for Jenny residents coded register to vote, they couldn't online for several hours and then also impacted. Early in person voting with Freddie Starr's offices statewide, you know, fighting that they couldn't access the full books or verify voter eligibility, and even though it was prepared by 3 30 called it already mounted to extended registration deadline, which is something that the governor did not have the authority to do and said So in his briefing, and then hours later, a lawsuit was filed. How is that cable cut? So there was a roadside utilities project in Chesterfield County, and, you know, they released a statement kind of thing that it was quote. Inadvertently struck and there's not more information other than not, and they're saying it was an accident. And that roadside utilities project is a super installation. And that happened in the early morning yesterday and that part of you been in the works since May. And it was right next to the headquarters of the major agency. That kind of is the you know, the technical support for for a lot of state agencies. So their website crashed. You mentioned the governor's involvement here. How hard is it to change a voter registration deadline in the Old Dominion? So from what I've done will be gathered. It's pretty difficult and you know, they're the governor's legal counsel, said yesterday in the briefing that they don't have the authority to just change the registration deadline that is in, you know in the state coat and that on DH You know they were talking about how that is kind of litigation. It takes the courts and they couldn't violet themselves. They sighted legal procedures for that, and So it takes litigation where it takes the General Assembly and so happened back in 2016. There was a computer glitch right before the 2016 election also occurred. You know, in October and there was There's a lawsuit filed again and back then Virginians were given a 36 hour extension to register. But back then it was, you know, a plaintiff has to file the lost two and both times the lawyers Committee for Civil Rights under law was the person who filed it on behalf of you know, advocacy groups and people who kind of register to vote. Is there any way of finding out who tried to register yesterday and couldn't and to reach out to them or what's being done to let them know about the extension through tomorrow? Yeah, so right now we do not have You know specific numbers of how many people weren't able to vote. But the lawsuit was filed with the intent to explain how this is out of voters of control and that the website crashing impacted thousands of voters with a disproportionate impact on black, indigenous and Latino people. And so part of the lawsuit Also included that Register's office. State officials had to issue press releases by 11:38 A.m. this morning, you know, kind of for local writer Sharp to be notified of this order. And so that was also a part of what the federal judge ruled today was, you know? Yes, we're extending the deadline and Virginia 11 59 on Thursday, but You also have to issue project leases. And so that was a way to kind of push the state butt and make sure that you know registrars were aware that this extension was granted and that people could be registering to vote, You know, passed yesterday deadline. Was there Anybody arguing against the extension? So we haven't seen it yet? Of course. We were seeing new kind of change by the hour. But, you know, even Republicans were plotting decision and they weren't at the Sarah. We You know, having pushed back against the decision, but against Northern administration, they said that it was a failure of the states for letting this happen. And even the defendant, Virginia Department of Elections Commissioner this morning said that you know this kid eligible Virginia's additional time to register or update their current voter registration record, and in a statement, the Republican Party You know, kind of made a joke that was like, you know, make sure next time you call Miss Utility and so and then I've been different than other states. You know, in Florida, there was pushback when lost me. Their registration deadline was pushed and challenged in the courts. And but we're not really seeing that right now with Virginia, with the exception that the Republican Party Did say that it was Northern Administration's fault. And besides that I have not seen pushback otherwise is their efforts to ensure that the voter registration system isn't tied to one cable in the future. Or is that something we're expecting in the coming days and weeks? Yeah. So in the briefing yesterday, Some of the Northern administration was talking about how you know this cable would put on a 10 gigabyte circuit and it was placed in the spring due to Corbett because of the increased workload because of You know a lot of traffic, a lot of people working from home, so they needed a backup, but the back of To that was not strong enough. And with the innovation of people going to register online, you know the backup wasn't enough. And so that's what they were kind of explaining, And they said, you know that they're working on pushing. So in the event that something like this were to happen, the backup would be able T sustain it and so That's kind of where we're at right now. And and yeah, and that's why that's why they were thinking. All right. Next time. You need a better backup. Um, but us for next step. We haven't heard much on that. Sabrina Marino

Where it's going. Where was he yesterday? What am I GONNA do? I don't might be a little bit confusing but until you sit down and just pay some attention to where it is. You really can't get to where you want to go. We'll talk about that here in just a little bit as well so when I say. Have you done your homework? You really checking in on your life and a lot of. It's a little bit upside down right now but You look in ny spiritually and your family and your job and everything else. Where is it do you like it? You don't like it are the things you just WanNa hang onto right now and keep things you want to change. It's really good time to make some adjustment. You can get the perfect week planner. It's at the website motivation dot com under the resource section. That'll help you figure this stuff out. You might want to do that. But do your homework. Pension to where you are it helps you get to where you WANNA go so today. I don't often do this but I am going to do it. Because it had some folks Scott. Can you do this okay again? A lot of time on the phone this week folks all over the world reducing stress so when it comes to reducing stressors some standard ways of doing it. But I don't tend to do standard. I tend to do things a little bit differently because I tend to sit down and go what actually works only for me but what I see work around the world or what do I feel work. When I'm working on myself. I can literally feel it on the inside. And that's where I go. I don't I don't go to books and all that kind of stuff. I don't make stuff up. It is what works. And that's what I deliver to you so I wanNA reduce your stress but I want to do it a different way by increasing your hope if that's okay because unless you're living in a cave you may have noticed. There is more stress these days. There is less hope around in your life today. Probably maybe I h there. You're just not noticing it. A short time. It goes very different. Pandemics can do that so can life. By the way I've said for years life gets in the way it does. It doesn't always get in this big away but but holy moly. Did anybody see this coming while I guess most of his dead at some point with the Fancy Dancy smart scientists? Someday it's going to happen. Well it did but we weren't thinking about that. We were too busy going into chick-fil-a eaten at right. Too busy with life. Life gets in the way all the time over the years. I've learned a little bit about stress. If had like most folks have had areas in my life that have been stressful. A lot of itself induced. By the way I'm kind of adventuresome kind of guy that likes to push do different things. I put myself in stressful situations and I didn't know I didn't do it on purpose but I got there. What am I doing but swelled volunteer? Here I am as some of the things that happened in my world that were well. You'll not great deaths in the family and loss jobs and things like that over the years. That were very stressful. And I kinda learn but you're usually in every case when this has happened. In retrospect looking back on it and really taken some time to ponder were. The fear in the stress came from it did come from fear. That's where it came from. In almost every case the feeling of stress came from fear feeling stress over. Maybe never getting off the hamster wheel people role in to fast. Sometimes that's gone away these days for pace by different kind of hamster wheel. I guess feeling stressed from uncertainty. Why are they gonNa Right now? But you know it's been going around before your entire life. You been uncertain at certain times. It's kind of funny uncertain at Certain Times that of course some stress wanted a big one for me is lack of adequate information these days. We probably have more information than we want. It's always been that way but now we're kind of hyper focused on it. But we don't need more do we? It's information overload. We know that doesn't work. We need adequate information. We need enough to know in every single case whenever I have enough to know I find myself calm. And what's really neat about? It is if you understand this that that that adequate information to me is the biggest one. You can really avoid a lot of stress that comes with not knowing against you. It doesn't matter where your fear originates. The solution is is really a very frame of your mind and reform that is right changing how you think a little bit kind of coming at it from a different direction. An P. Concept. You may have heard about this before programming. Concept is easy to see things as they are. It's difficult to do. Sometimes seeing things as they are a lot of folks say Scott amount of work as Democrats scared to death. I'm seeing things as they are very very clearly as when not really. Is it uncertainty as like a money is having some issues with maybe your food or your family? What is it if you see things as they really are? You got to go deep. Don't you have to dig down inside? I know it's scary too. But that's where the adequate information is so the only way to see things that is the rs not to look on the surface. You gotta go a little deeper. And what's really driving the impact on you? What's causing that fear and that stress? It's scary sometimes. But it's eye opening. It's it's freeing it's liberating so you see things as they are not superficially but has a really truly ours is the truth that you actually don't want to. I want to pay attention to because only when you see things exactly as they are with one hundred percent clarity. Can you see things as they can be if you don't have clarity if you haven't completely grounded yourself what's really going on in your world? And what the impact is on you trying to think yourself out of that is well. It's difficult at best and it does create stress. Because you don't know what to do which in a fearful state and it doesn't give you a chance to bring back at home. What would you do see things as they are? You will notice instantaneously as you look at things can be this feeling of hope comes inside of you and when it does you'll notice it you'll feel it feel the stress quater your shoulders at your Chesterfield. Go Away that re frame of mind said well you for just a millisecond? Click in time. That's all it takes to realize all is well all is well. I used to have clarity of Barium. Were going stress will go away the whole full arrive and you will in fact become available because that's the we are right now right unless something stops you physically. You're still going to get up and and keep going it means. You're actually unstoppable already if you just recognize that all right. I'm going to get out of your back tomorrow. Chat about why plan B is not even necessary. All you need is plan to get through just about anything. Show hope here and hope on Wednesday honor. Operation had mentioned call at lluhvision moved up Tom. I'll see you tomorrow.

Starting a BJJ Revolution with Andrew Smith

"Andrew. Thank you again for joining us on the show and sharing your story and you know some processes particularly Brazilian Jujitsu another stuff. We'll get into and just help another folks with your perspective to kind of make that progress of thank you. Thank you Kevin. I'm excited to be. I think that what you've done so far has been a really good and I think it's important to break down Particularly the process aspects. You don't really hear very much about that when you're listening to a podcast or learning about Things though the process part in particular is something. That really appeals to me especially as every business been involved with as grown over the years. Yet I for the impetus for this which is really I rebranded. I had another pockets called between the slides and then honestly the more folks. I talked to. What so if you're like when you have to explain it a lot you're let me make it more obvious. But it was largely focused on that for the world that I came from a public safety and incident management special events and then project management. It's super process heavy Sometimes too much sometimes informal and everything in between and in particular as you mentioned eighteen months in was still very new but totally getting into more of the the understanding of how incremental of process that is of like every little roll little thing. Little tweak little move and it's kind of mind blowing even from being so new of how much depth their is. They're part of an episode. Let me do kind of like a book. Report podcast version of of one variation and You know from grappling to the modern Brazilian Jujitsu and the seventy different variations. So I was very interested to see all those different flavors of history and people and you know cross discussions and things and So for you and I and I've looked up some your background and and heard some of this from when I listen to you on on dirty web. What radio which was cool so folks if you haven't listened to that check that out as well But your process in about you. Are you from the rich Mary? I know you've been there forbidden went to vcu. Are you originally from Richmond? Virginia No actually grew up in Columbia South Carolina so about Twenty five years ago. I just wanted sort of a change in a ended up in the Richmond area. Then it's funny I've been enrichment for A little over twenty five years now on. It's still doesn't really feel like I'm from here. You know there's no other place that has ever traveled to where I think it's quite So so Front and center. When you're if you didn't grow up in Richmond. You're not really from here. You know and it feels that way to me still like imposter syndrome or something. It even in the area. It's it's still it's shifted now. I grew up in Chesterfield South side. Now it's kind of the old old area and I remember just a richmond thing of someone at intern. I think I had when I worked for the state And she grew up in Henrico. Which is the place to be so to speak of and and just talking about. Oh you grew up in south side like it was such an old place and it was so different but the economy and the change and everything of all the different areas around Richmond Annex. Pretty NEAT but but yeah it's There's definitely a very kind of Richmond. If you're from there you're kind of all in as well One thing we do share Richmond wise as we both went to vcu I'm a back to school. Use My job building stuff and went to an for you starting That's where you got into judo first-rate. That's right yeah. I wrestled in high school I wasn't amazing but I got a lot better my senior year. I was actually starting to get pretty good but then I graduated high school in there. Just wasn't there wasn't wrestling at the college. I went to which was university South Carolina. Okay you believe it or not. There wasn't a wrestling team there at least in the nineteen nineties and I was really bummed because I sort of fall in love with grappling Wrestling you know Dan so I mean. I wrestled a little bit with the high school kids. After the season you know went to a few freestyle wrestling tournaments but I just wanted more wanted to keep going and there wasn't anything there and I think ironically there was a judo club. But I didn't think much about judo back then When I was in South Carolina and then I moved up to Richmond and in nineteen ninety seven. I started training judo at the judo club and at vcu and it was just. I was hooked right away. It was a special time for for martial arts special time for judo. Insofar as there was a lot of sort things that were coming together at the right place at the right time we know the UFC. We have to go back in time. You have been on on the air since nineteen ninety-three but nobody had seen it like literally. Probably fifty thousand people saw the I see in the There was another one eight months later or something and that's the sort of the way it was so is this sort of a niche underground to a degree but people that were involved with judo They knew about the UFC. They knew about Grappling they were reading. You know Martial arts magazines and stuff like that like black doll magazine was sort of the the leader back then if you were interested in even grappling. Because there wasn't there weren't industry specific magazines out there so I think that communities were a lot more interconnected. You had a lot more sort of a Geek condo type people involved with grappling people. You know judo injury. Jitsu were much more closely related than they sort of art today Which I mean as far as martial arts go. They're very very similar as far as like the way. The Arts are practiced in the culture. It's it's pretty different. Judo is a lot more formal. You just is very very laid back. You know tends to get rid of a lot of aspects of the tradition and so Maybe it's perceived as incompatible to a lot of a lot of people but I was really lucky at vcu It wasn't really like that. There were people coming over from you just schools throughout town and When I started competing in in Jujitsu Before actually started formally training in it. I'd had experience at the Judo Club. Traveling around Training going to seminars stuff like that. But no consistent regular training in. That was possible back then. It was possible because of the particular circumstances that I had to actually do pretty well when I competed in some of those arenas because I had you know. Of course judo Experience Judo Club but also good grappling especially for the time we had people. He wrestled before but also people that were actively training in Brazilian Jujitsu. And I think that was uncommon back. Then so it's sorta how things got started for me. When I moved to the Richmond area was really really lucky. Fell into the right
