"And I am Chelsea Robson, and we are here to talk about the poohs in booths. It's a brand new year. Look at us, go. We're talking about a movie from last year. Started off right, you know? But this was actually, I think this was the last movie that came out last year. So I feel like I'm okay with that. At least I'm still, I mean, it was going right into Christmas break and we took some time off and so it gave us time to see this movie digest it and have some thoughts on the movie, as well as audience reaction, how other people are thinking about this. This has been an interesting one to watch indeed. For sure. So stick around and we will be right back. With your favorite fearless hero who is your favorite feeling who's Raven ready for trouble. All right, so before we talk about the movie, let's set the stage. The studio DreamWorks animation, the director was Joel Crawford, who has directed quite a few things for DreamWorks, most recently he directed the crew's sequel, the croods, a new age, just a few years ago, and I did not see that one, but I actually heard it's pretty good. And the release date December 21st, 2022, a $90 million budget, which can we just sit on that for a moment. I mean, considering some of these Disney movies we've been talking about, they're in the one 50, one 75 rage. I feel like Disney's Pixar's, they hover around this one 75 Mark. So for this to come in, basically half that, pretty impressive. Good on DreamWorks for keeping their costs low. And then finally, you know, what we all have been waiting for, how did it make money? Did it make back its budget? That's the age old question that I always have and it made $251.1 million in the worldwide box office thus far. So this is mid January when we are recording this. So it's been out just less than a month. And then pretty well, all things considered. Yeah, you know, this has been kind of an underwhelming movie season. Let's go through and reasons why you may not have seen this movie already. One, you just weren't going to the movies. There's those people who just were like, I just don't want to go. And honestly, that's when a lot of the movies were coming out over Christmas. It was like all of them just seemed very underwhelming to me, and I was just like, ugh. I guess stuff to do, you know? And so there's that. And then also looking at it as this is the sequel to a movie that probably a lot of people never saw as well. Well, let's just not talk about it's not only a sequel. It's kind of a spin off to an already very well established and maybe slightly overdone series at this point. This is the 6th Shrek franchise film. If you will. So I mean, if you were kind of over Shrek, you know, maybe during Shrek three in 2007 or even one Shrek four came out and you kind of said, no, I don't do that anymore. I don't do that. I quit. You know, I could see how you didn't end up seeing this one. I personally to give some context and for my review, you know, didn't see the first puss in boots film.

"I'm Morgan stradley. And I'm Chelsea Robson. And we are taking a look back at 2022, the movies we saw, the movies we reviewed, and we're just going to talk about our favorites from this year. We have seen so many different movies this year of we did our dog series. We did a whole hotel Transylvania series. We did our tenth anniversary episode, this is kind of crazy. We talked about it. We talked about that. The Disney Princess concerts. Oh my gosh, we've done so many things this year. Absolutely. We can kind of break this into two different groups. Movies that we saw as part of the podcast and then movies also that came out as part of the animation fair. There it seems like nowadays that I feel like this started. Maybe 2015 ish. They're just became such an influx of animated films that were released every year. It became harder to see them all or nothing being harder to see them all the desire to see them all kind of decreased because I feel like the quality wasn't necessarily there or you just feel totally swamped with stuff. I don't know if you felt that way, but there were times when I definitely felt that way. We would talk about that, okay? This episode is brought to you by Dragon Ball legends. "And I am Chelsea Robson, and we are back for another nerdy couch discussion episode. This one is a patron submission. So we've kind of wrapped up these big, long series that we've done. We've gotten a lot of really great feedback about the Pixar discussion. Ranking the Pixar eras and the Disney eras, people have loved those discussions. So we're going to take a pause for a little bit until we can think of the next batch to do. And we're going to some of our patron questions. So one of the perks of being a patron is that you get to give suggestions for our nerdy couch discussion episode. So this is by Matthew L and he asks, what are the best and worst Disney live action adaptations? Oh boy. This is definitely opening up a soap box. And a big can of worms. There's Chelsea is going to step on her soapbox and open a can of worms at the same time. Look at these worms, people. Look at them. Get ready, you guys. This is a lot to talk about. "And I'm Chelsea Robson. And today we have a very, very fun episode with a very special guest. So let's introduce our guest first. We'll keep you waiting on what our episodes about. First off, welcome to soul Carlos. Yay. Hi. Thank you so much for having me. I'm so excited. We have, we're really excited about this because for multiple reasons. Seoul has been one of our patrons for a long time. Several years. And you've heard her voice you've heard her send voicemails. And so I'm sure for our longtime listeners, you'll be able to recognize like, oh yes, I remember that voice. With the great comments, wonderful. But also, as garnered quite the following over the last couple of years on her own accounts on the TikTok sphere, and she's quite the fun follow, especially if you see Spanish, if not, then you learn some Spanish. It's cool. So tell us a little bit about yourself. Well, first of all, thank you for having me. I'm gonna add in a patron for so many years now, so this is very surreal. Let me see what I'm Argentina originally, but I lived in Venezuela, Mexico, I was 9 years in Houston, and I recently moved to Miami. And yeah, I made content about myself love, you know, woman supporting women. Just pause it in content, you know, because there's so much toxicity online and I just wanted to make a safe space for people, you know? I would mental health place. So yeah, that's just me and I love animation, obviously. And you know, I'm gonna ask scared at this originally, I suggest you guys doing, I will free movie two. And that is also well. And now I'm scared, but we'll see. We'll have fun. Oh yeah. I don't know. You can't go wrong with the Barbie movies. It seems from the two that I have seen, they seem to be pretty good. So I guess we should let people know today we are reviewing Barbie in the 12 dancing princesses, so this is going to be a super fun episode. But before we do, I know I'm going to keep you waiting. I know you're chomping it a bit. This is a you want to get into the movie, but first we're going to do a special game called catch and fire with Seoul. The in session film podcast is your source for film reviews and movie discussion, our flagship main show covers all of the new releases we talked top three lists, news and much more. Our extra film podcast examines classics Indies and hidden jams. We have women in session to get the female perspective chasing the gold for the awards lovers out there recover the gamma and have plenty to offer for everyone. Find us at in session film dot com. If you want to start your podcast, libsyn is the best podcasting service on the market. Use code ISF today and get two months of podcasting free, find them libsyn dot com. All right, are you excited about this? I'm so excited. Have you been wanting to do catching fire like your entire life now? This is like bucket list. I can finally, I can help you make your dreams come true today. We're going to ask you catch and fire. Well, then. How about the quick round though? Action fire. Catching fire. You mean me? You're the only one with enough cut cut. All right, what was the very first animated movie you remember seeing? Finding Nemo. What was the favorite cartoon growing up? Probably Reese's or Jake long, the American dragon. Oh. Favorite animated movie. Hercules and the emperor's new group. Favorite animator slash artist. Classic animation or CGI. Classical way. Favorite animation studio? Disney. Disney or Pixar? Leica or Studio Ghibli. Songs or no songs. Yes. I got you. All right, and then we're going to go with I have a part of this. I have a list that I kind of picked through. And so I picked two from this section. Oh, your favorite obscure animated character. Okay, it's a Babel from Barbie fairy topia. Oh, okay. We're on brand here. All right, are we looking at Tiana or Mulan? Deanna. Okay. And now, the very most important and final question. Which would you rather watch? Cinderella two or the return of jafar. Okay, I'm a bone to pick another category. Guys, you guys always bring hunchback of note to them too. Mullin two Cinderella to actually, do you know what generation I'm from street today? I did not like they just buy one. So I like all the other ones. So in this case, there are two I actually prefer over the original one. I said it. Wow. So I'm starting with annotation. Yes, give it to me. So basically, this is not be considered cruel and unusual punishment. Oh, not at all. It's a joy. Oh, perfect. Well, I mean, I could have thrown in the land before time, 13, the wisdom of Friends. Awesome. Good job. You have completed catch and fire. Yay. I survived. You will survive. So when we were deciding what movie we wanted to do, we just wanted to bring soul on and we were trying to figure out what movie should we do. And Seoul recommended we do one of the Barbie movies, and so we opened it up to her as to which one to do. Now, you'll remember we've already done the princess and the popper. Is that what's called Barbie in the princess of the popper. So we've done that one, and that was surprisingly amazing. And so we opened up the soul and said, hey, you pick, what is the next best one? 'cause we didn't want to just, you know, we want to keep it high. We want to keep it on a great high note. And so what's the reason why you picked this one for us to do? This was so hard because again, hardcore fan here. And you know, I can ask my audience like, what is your favorite? And you know a lot of people are saying princess and chairman school, but that's more of like a newer one. A lot of people were saying, still three musketeers. And I wanted to go with more of the OG, right? So to see more, because you guys saw prince the papa wanted to keep it kind of like that event and people are upset. And that was my favorite also 12 dancing prints and so I feel like it was a good mix of people wanting that, but I also keep it like old school, you know? So you grew up with the Barbie films, right? Yes. I was so target audience. Like how you guys were like this one princess. Are you excited?

"Hey there, animation addicts. I'm Morgan straddling, and I'm Chelsea Robson. And this is the last movie in our dog series. And we're ending it on a Halloween note. Oh. Kind of. Well, I will be, so for anybody who's listening on Halloween, I will be working diligently in order to get this out today. This is early in the morning, like 8 a.m. and because we have a deadline on generally we have it out on Tuesdays, but today's Monday. And I really just want to have this out. So that's my goal. Hopefully I'll be able to do that. We will do it. This will get done. Morgan, how has the trick or treating been for you this year? What have your kids been dressing up as? It's been pretty good. You know, nowadays, in the modern era, it seems that trick or treating is not just a Halloween day activity. There are multiple parties, Halloween parties, fall festivals, festivities, trunk or treats. And so children have many opportunities to wear their costumes. So which is much better, I think, than when we had it was like, no, you get one day. That's it. Well, yes. Unless costumes, pippa and Graham, they both selected their own costume and they're just the cutest age right now where they take really random things. So Graham wanted to be a mailbox. Because he really wanted the box to open up and according to him, his basket would be on a hook inside and people would put it in the basket. Well, that is quite because there's not a lot of room inside the box. But the fact that he had that whole thing, like engineering mind. I'm very impressed. Yeah. So he is a USPS blue mailbox. Jared, my husband is a mailman. Nice to go along with that. Pippa wanted to be grapes.

"Your host, Morgan straddling, and I'm Chelsea Robson. Morgan, yeah. Do you know how many animal islands there are? Animal islands. By animal islands, you mean islands that are entirely populated by animals? Yes. Not an island named after an animal or something. No, no, no. An entirely populated by animals. No humans. No humans. Well, it has to be so many, because there's so many little dinky islands that you're like, why doesn't anyone live here, even though someone owns it? True. Throwing something out there, 340. Well, maybe there are, but I've only found 8. Here I was way off. I mean, maybe there are. Stamps tonight. Way to make me feel good. Well, there could be. So we have pig island in The Bahamas. Basically, a bunch of pigs were abandoned there. And they have become the owners of this island basically. That's not frightening at all. Right. The pigs send it. Their referral pigs and they've just gotten really good at swimming out into the ocean. And getting like garbage off of boats that caught people drop and stuff. So I looking at pictures and I will post pictures in the show notes so you got to go see that. But it's like from NASA, you take a plane and you got to rent a boat and then you go about a mile north of this area and it's just, it's a lot to get there. But it is pig island. And then we have cat island, which is off of Japan, which is I think what I was really thinking of when I started thinking about isle of dogs, this movie, because I knew that they banished all their cats or something. And so I wanted to look into on that. And there is an island off the coast of Japan. And it's the cats rule the whole thing. It's crazy. And then there's another one rabbit island off of Japan, and I'm thinking, what is wrong with Japan just is like, we're not going to kill them. We're just going to move them. Any of these animals, let's just maybe they just have a lot of allergies. I don't know. But there's rabbit island. Interesting. And then there's one off of Maryland that has horses throughout the whole thing, and they're called the swimming ponies. And then there's seal island, which is off of South Africa. Monkey island, which is off of Puerto Rico. There's snake island, which I've heard quite a bit about. It's called ilia de queimada Grande. So it's like the island of the big burn. So obviously there's some type of poison going through there, but it's off of the coast of Brazil. And I've heard several people be like, oh my gosh, it's like horrifying snake island. No one goes there. Like, okay, good to know. And then there's goat island off of South Carolina where I guess they decided to leave their goats on this island. They live there. Most of the year. And then winter time, they go and they round them up and then they go and put them on somebody else's farm, so that's because it's too cold, or so these things exist. That's one, two, three, four, 5, 6, 7, 8, yeah, 8 of them that I got. So interesting. Well, there we go. Now we know. Not 340, but 8 is good. And each one sounds so sad and horrifying at the same time. And take on which one it is. I know. So today, we are going to be talking about one of these fictional islands where there are just dogs. Isle of dogs. This is going to be a fun episode, so get ready, give us a second and we'll hop right into it. "Am Chelsea Robson. Totally random, totally off topic, Chelsea. But did you ever watch The Golden Girls? I did. But I was not a religious watcher of them, but I definitely saw at least one or two episodes. And can I just say, the difference of The Golden Girls of women in their 60s, then versus women in their 60s today when you take a look at Sex and the City, again, right? Here they are. It's like, wow. Yeah. So I just Googled it. Rose is 55. Dorothy's 53. Blanche is 40 7. What? And Sofia is 79. No. Compared to like you were saying, Sex and the City reboot. Miranda and Charlotte were 54, carries 55. It's like, oh, no. What? That's nuts. Yeah. Well, it's also one of those weird things when you look at pictures of people in the 80s and like high schoolers in the 80s and they all look like they're 30, I know. But it's the hair. It's the hair. It's still in there. And then you look at today and they're like, uh, we do not live in the same world. I don't know. Anyway, we're not talking about any of that today. No, we are not going to go Golden Girls at all because I've never seen it. So that's not going to work out too well, but we are going to talk about something that we know very, very well. But according to this video, or this movie, doberman saw the worst. This movie forever ingrained my love of dobermans. I know they're supposed to be bad guys, but they were so cool and they are so amazing. That you can't just overlook that. I'm sorry. They're bad. They're awesome. They have the pointy ears, which you need to do for it to be a proper doberman. The tail, right? Speaking of thoroughbreds, we are the rotoscopers. We are animation addicts through and through. But I just, can we just take it like a two second break and talk about our favorite boy bands? Absolutely. That's why we're here. Because I was thinking about, okay, what were the best boy bands through the eras? And you can't, if you're going back to the beginning, you had Jackson 5. Right. And then we also have the osmonds. I mean, they were a thing. And then new kids on the block. Oh, it wasn't particularly my thing, but a little bit before our era. But still a little bit. We can acknowledge it, yes. And recognize the greatness. One direction is, they hid a bag for a while. They had their moment. Oh, boys to men. Yes. I remember that. Oh, good times. I've worked for a couple different award shows, and I worked for the AMAs this last year, and I just remember I was outside waiting for different people to come in and all of a sudden BTS walk in, and I was just like, oh, that's BTS. And what's funny is you had like so many of these millennial girls that were just like, oh my God. Just BTS. Millennial girls? The zoomers, but also the millennials. I had a couple that were like, well, they were in between. The both of them. Because these are like staff people and even the staff are like freaking out that BTS is walking in. And the moment they walk in had this like cheering section for people that you're supposed to cheer whenever these celebrities come in. And for all the other celebrities, it was like, wow, you know, like, we're being paid to be here kind of a cheer. And then you had BTS walk in and it was like everything exploded. I was like, I've missed something. I am completely out of this. I have no idea what's happening. I called my niece, who was 15, and I was like, girl, please, you need to put together a PowerPoint for me, tell me why they're so popular because I've completely missed out. This is what it is. I mean, you might even be sick of talking about Bruno at this point. I'm not actually. It's so crazy. First off, okay, so what we are going to be doing today, we're going to be talking about the hit song from in kanto. We don't talk about Bruno, which has hit the top of the charts at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. And that is just mind-blowing a phenomenon in itself. So we're going to talk about that. And then we're also going to talk about other Disney songs that have also charted over the years. But before we do, I got to say a lot of people are really late to the game with the in canto trend. And let's not talk about Bruno. Disney's encanto came out in November and if you are an animation addict or a Disney fanatic, you probably saw it in theaters, although maybe not because you know people's consumer habits with going to the theater have changed. Some theaters aren't open, so totally get it. But we were fans of in canto when it came out. We were totally in the loop with how amazing the soundtrack was, how amazing the movie was, and then here we go, about 60 to 90 days later when it finally hits Disney+. And all I hear about from my Friends that have kids and families is, oh my gosh, have you watched in canto? And I'm like, yeah, yeah. A long time ago. Where have you been? So I know how we recently. I'm always complaining about streaming and things going to streaming only and how it does such a disservice. And I, hey, I'm definitely prideful. I like to admit when I'm wrong, but I will, because clearly there is a market of people who just aren't going to go to the theaters anymore, and they have all of these streaming services. And so when something finally does hit the streaming service, they see it, and they're going to talk about it, even though it's two months late. Well, and this is kind of how the frozen train hit too. We were very much in the open by the time it came out. We were like, okay, we're done. And then 6 to 9 days later, everyone was like, wow. Yeah. I mean, when the sing along came back into theaters, I was like, I've just sung so long. I have nothing else to sing. Exactly. That was a poorly done attempt at a really niche survivor quote. There was a girl on survivor who she just basically quits the show. And she's just skin and bones. And she basically says, I have nothing left to suck. And I say that all the time. I see that all the time. I have nothing left to sign..

"Host, Chelsea Robson, and I'm Morgan straddling. We just got done talking about the third and fourth installments of the hotel Transylvania. And we have one of those sparks of inspiration of like, hey, this is something we need to dig into because there aren't that many animated films that have a trilogy or more. And we thought, why don't we go about these and decide rank, you know, just talk about our favorite trilogies in animated films. Yeah, initially I was thinking, okay, let's talk about sequels and trilogies and kind of lump them in together, but there are so many animated films that have sequels that it would just kind of make this discussion a little bit muddy. So I made it even more specific and decided, hey, let's talk about trilogies because if a franchise makes it to a trilogy, it's really doing something right in theory. And so this gives us a small enough list to discuss, but it also is just a really interesting discussion of a movie gets to this point, what makes it good and what makes it bad because there are some really great trilogies out there. I'm gonna spoil it. The Toy Story trilogy. And yes, some of these do have fourth or 5th films. So if it has at least a trilogy, we're going to talk about it. And we will maybe discuss the other films in the franchise, but then there are also some trilogies that just exist and are really, really bad. And we will talk about those as well. So before we jump into that, I wanted to showcase one of our newest 5 star reviews, and that is from jazz Capri and jazz Capri says my favorite animated podcast, I have been following the website and listening to the podcast for years. "Host, Chelsea Robson, and I'm Morgan straddling. Morgan, you and I have both been to China. I want to know what you have. This movie is set in China. And did this bring back any fun memories from your trip? Yes, you know, China is very vibrant and beautiful and so it's been a while since I've been there so it was really fun to go back and see it visually in a film. And it wasn't a magical world sort of China esque, if you will, it really was China and they've been talking about real places like Beijing and so I really enjoyed that and like that. Yeah, when I went and you and I basically, you went and then a couple months later, I randomly went as well, which is funny. Yeah. But I went, I was in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing. And honestly, from that trip, I have one of the regrets of my life. And I mean this sincerely, one of the major regrets of my life is that while I was in Beijing at that time, I did not take my opportunity to go visit the fake Disneyland before they shut it down. Well, did you know that it existed? Yes, and they were like, okay, we should take you there. We should take land. And we were running out of time because my flight, I had to get a flight and I had to end up the flights that I had gotten. Were like super cheap. And so it would be more expensive. For me to stay, then it would be for me to go home and then come back. And so that was kind of my mentality of like, oh, I should come back, you know? But like, come on, Chelsea. So an excuse to go through every single Disney song basically and talk about them, talk about a girl's dream come true. Hey, we're gonna revert that time. We were in high school and we were doing that walk around the football field thing. It was like a walking walk, a walkathon. And you and I just like we had one earbud in you and one ear but in me and we had your iPod first gen, of course, or gen two. Gently to three. Was it gen three? Okay. So that's where we're dating ourselves. One of those. More walking around. Yes. The spin wheel we're walking around and we are listening to all of the Disney songs on your playlist 'cause you had the most epic Disney playlists of all and we shared and it was wonderful. It was my claim to fame. It was, but we were like, we were politically singing the entire time out loud. And at the top of our lungs, and everybody just was like, it's them. Just let them do their thing. Yes. It's two in the morning. Okay. Oh gosh. But yeah, this is what it kind of takes me back to that to that night to those days when we would just scrounge around the Internet and eBay trying to find all of the Disney CDs so that we can did. I know. I got the 101 dalmatians soundtrack off eBay. Now you can just go on Spotify it. You don't have to do go through this rig and roll. And you don't have any work. You guys didn't know. Yes, yes. I didn't prove yourselves. But here we are, and we are talking about our favorite Disney musics. And this one it was fun because I went to and I went in and I found all of the best Disney and credit songs and generally I have a rule with them and I'll get into the rules a little bit later, but yeah, I'm excited to jump into this. Let's do it. Let's jump away. Don't go away. We have a great show coming up. All right, so we are jumping in and the best Disney credit songs. I started basically at what would be known as the renaissance ish starting, because most of the other movies before Oliver and company, all of the end credit songs had they were just theme music. There wasn't a lot. There wasn't any actual reprises or it didn't get into the gist of what I wanted. I really wanted Disney music wasn't quite what it had become in the world. It wasn't. No. Because we look back and I think of the R&B remix. This was like the standard of what Disney did. And but I was going through, I was like, you know, this really wasn't as standard as I thought it was. It was just because they started with an era. And then the era took care of every other Disney, every other non Disney studio that made a movie played off of this. And so all of them had a remix. Which made me think that Disney was the one that had more of them. But it did have a fair share, but we're going to just start at Oliver and company. But before we get into this, we are going to be talking about the closing songs and the end credit songs. So some of the movies they have a final song that kind of like tops you off and there's animation and the characters may be singing or not singing, and then it ends. So we're including those in here. Yeah. You're closing number and sometimes that does morph into the end credit song, but sometimes these are different things. And sometimes the movie will have both. So we're just kind of lumping them all together. Yeah. And like I said, we're just starting at like all of our company on down because the other ones were mostly themes like scores. Yeah. And that's a different the end credits were not a thing. That's the beginning of the beginning. You know, yeah, because, for example, our OG theme song sinderella, I mean, that's not going to get any love, because that's a beginning credit song. That's true. And then credit song. We could only go through all the beginning. The best of the rest of, yeah. We'll do a best of the rest that didn't really fit any of the buckets we could just rank those. All of my favorite songs, here's what we're gonna do. So yeah, so we're gonna start off with all of our company wash it out with why should I care and this one was a bit of a reprise because instead of just Dodger singing, it was all of the dogs had their little part and so you had everybody kind of taking their moment of this song. What I thought was fun. It wasn't my list of like best of them all, but it was like, okay, that's fun. I'll add to you. And that's where we're gonna start our list. Time wise 'cause we're mostly going by eras. But then the next movie is going to be the disease a Little Mermaid in credit song. And I just, you know what? They didn't figure it out how to do a remix, yeah, and so it was just Little Mermaid life under the sea is better than anything they had got up there, and they just repeated it. It's just under the sea. Yeah, yeah. It's just under the sea played over again. I think after this film is when obviously they made a whole lot of money from the film and the soundtrack and they realized, oh, okay. You know, we can make even more money if we make a more commercialized version of the song. We don't have to rewrite a new song. Let's just get someone else to sing like the Pinnacle, typically the love song in the end credits. So under the sea, it's great, but as far as like an end credit song, it's kind of meh. Because it's just a song we previously heard before. Yeah, it's literally just the same song just again. Yeah. With nothing special, nothing. You put it perfectly. You can make so much more money when you just make more versions of the sun. And one of my favorite stories is from beauty of the beast and how Don Hahn was just so ecstatic that they were to get Celine Dion, this new girl from Canada, so cheap. Oh my gosh. So you know. Yes. There is an interview with him saying, oh yeah, it was great. So obviously she did not get any royalties on this. They paid her out flat and she and people bison saying the most epic version of an in song that I think is out there, which is, you know, Celine Dion's Beauty and the Beast. Yeah. Like when you think of Disney and credit songs, you think of this one. Yeah, it's just, it's the one. I'm sorry. We're probably gonna spoil my list, but this is the list. This is the list. All right, and then the next movie is gonna be in Aladdin. And it's the whole new world theme song. And that is really when they hit their stride with the R&B remix side. Because it's got this, like this..

"Animation addicts, I'm Morgan straddling. And I'm Chelsea Robson. And we are excited to be here. We are the roto spookers. It is Halloween month. And so we're here for a nerdy couch discussion, and we're gonna talk about something a little spooky, but before we do, we are having a really fun episode today because what we're going to be doing, we are going to be bringing on the patrons of the animation addicts podcast. One of the perks of being a patriot, you get to hang out with us. We have special patron only podcasts that we do just for the patrons people come on. We hang out. We shoot the breeze. It's so much fun. And it really is a community where we know each other and it's awesome. But for this episode, specifically, the Patriots are going to come on and join us on the nerdy couch. So before we get started with the topic of this, let's bring on the first patron who's here today. Esther, hey, Esther. I waited a long time to do that. Let me know a little bit about you, who you are, where you're from. Let's see, I am originally from the Midwest, and I went off to live in New York for about ten to 12 years and I was amazing because I got to go to comic conventions and some special animated previews at different movies. And then I kind of moved down to Maryland and that's where I am now. I help manage an on my database for university. It doesn't sound very glamorous, but it's fine. It pays the bills. And I've been a huge animation fan since I was a teeny little kid watching, I think the lady and the tramp was one of my first movies ever. Oh, I love it. I love that movie. I know we just recently did it. We've done it, but every time I rewatch it, I'm like, oh, it's so good. So good. So it's very home. What is your favorite animated film of all time? Oh gosh, it is so hard to see. That's like sending me to the chocolate factory and saying one thing. I would have to say it's honestly a tie between The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. I know everyone says them all the time, but just everything works, not just the quality of the animation, but the storytelling. And the music and the characters. It's Disney at its best. The nostalgia. All things. So today's gonna be a really fun episode because since it is the month of all hallows eve, we decided that we are going to be doing a nerdy couch discussion on a theory that has been around for quite a while. You know, people have been talking about this for 7, 8 years, but I thought, you know, come up on Instagram, and I'm like, you know what? I said so over to Chelsea. And he said, hey, let's talk about it. You know, why not? So Chelsea, kick us off, what is this theory that we're going to be discussing today? All right, so there is a theory that the movie's Frank and weenie, the corpse bride and Nightmare Before Christmas are all about the same man and his dog. First when he was a kid and then when he's an adult and then in the afterlife. And when you line up the pictures still pictures from each film, you can see that they look very similar, all of them. I mean, the one that I would say is less connected would probably be Nightmare Before Christmas if you're looking at just voice actors for one. But also skeletal shape and everything. But the dog looks very much like it could be the same dog. Yeah. So with this theory, these are all by Tim Burton. And so, you know, there's all these little things with any of these theories. People love to cherry pick little things here and there. And they're like, oh, there's this. And so therefore, it proves X, Y, and Z, and so people are thinking, oh, because it's Tim Burton. He's secretly has interconnected all of his movies. And there are a lot of similarities. So let's first talk about the different similarities between these movies. One, they're all stop motion animated films. And they all have this very timber in esque style. If you've ever looked at concept art for different films, Tim Burton, he worked for Disney in the 80s. He has a very, very distinct style. You see it in his character designs by being the exception. I'm not sure how involved he was with he was the producer, but I don't know if he was involved in character design, but obviously very much influenced by him because these all look like Tim Burton's stuff, right? And so that's one of the reasons why people initially bring this theory up is because the characters specifically Victor in Frank and weenie and Victor in corpse bride, it seems obvious. Victor is young in frankenweenie and it just looks like an aged up version in a victory in corpse bride, right? And then there's obviously the same voice actor as a dot Johnny Depp, Johnny Depp is in Frankie as well. So I see that as a possibility. The only thing that is different is The Nightmare Before Christmas. Yeah. Oh, and they have the dogs, right? They all have the dogs that very similar. They have a very pointed snout. That therefore, they're the same dog. They're the same guy. Now, oh, go ahead, Esther. I was going to say. So if you've talked before about, I think a time vortex and the Disney verse is the Burton verse then. Yes. The time vortex in the Burton verse, right? Exactly. So that's a throwback. That's how you know Esther is one of our OG listeners from episode one. Really, that far back. I don't remember. I got so good. Well, we always brought it up. The time vortex. It's the answer to everything. And when it comes to Disney theories, Pixar theories, or Burton theories, a time vortex solves all of your problems. It's just the magic key that connects it all together. So I think we're going to talk about let's talk about how this possibly could happen and why, and then on the flip side, someone will play devil's advocate and break it all down because I think that's what a lot of people like to do with these is, okay, nice try, but so what they're saying happened is that Frank and weenie came out in 2012. Of course bride, 2005, Nightmare Before Christmas 1993. They're saying that Victor in frankenweenie had this dog, you know, obviously the dog died. He had to bring it back. He grew up and through some weird sort of shifting of time because Frank and weenies kind of set in the 1950s. You know, they're wearing 3D glasses at one point and watching movies. It's very much an homage to those films from that era. Then we hop back to the Victorian period. And he's grown up. And he has a dog is the same dog as a different name. But then when he dies, he kind of becomes Jack, he renames himself, becomes a new guy and becomes Jack the pumpkin king with his dog zero. So there's a lot of hoops that you have to jump through to kind of make this timeline work and that's kind of where it falls back apart because you have to get a jump backwards in time and typically theories don't do that, right? So Frank and weenie and corpse bride were both directed by Tim Burton, but it was actually Nightmare Before Christmas that was done by Henry selick. And so it does make a lot more sense that Frank and weenie and corpse bride would be connected. And why it's much more of a shift and a jump to go straight to Nightmare Before Christmas. Not to mention the fact that I feel like I feel like they would have gotten me if Johnny Depp had been the voice for Jack because he wasn't. It's kind of like, I don't see that. But I can see the other two. So Esther, what do you think? Do you think does the voice actor.
