Bloomberg one O 6 one Boston Bloomberg 9 60 San Francisco Syria's exam one 19 and around the world on Bloomberg radio dot com and via the Bloomberg business app Our two of the program it's ten in the morning in Sydney the equity market now is up and running final trading day of the week If you're joining from the apac region good morning I'm Doug prisoner at the Bloomberg interactive broker studio in New York And I'm Juliette Sally in Singapore Bloomberg daybreak Asia presented by interactive brokers interactive brokers charges margin loan rates from .75 to 1.58% rates are subject to change You can learn more at IBKR dot com slash compare It certainly is the final trading day of the week Very volatile on Wall Street Let's get the latest with Bloomberg's Brian Curtis Brian Hi Juliet Yes it looks like we will trade mixed in Asia today Maybe even a little to the downside Perhaps giving giving back some of the big profits over the past couple of days I say profits If you're a long-term holder not even close but if you bought recently perhaps taking some profits you have mixed signals from the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine We have the U.S. saying that Vladimir Putin might make some nuclear war threats if this war drags on But then there were some positive JPMorgan Chase processed funds for interest payments due on Russian government dollar bonds or tell you more about that and the significance of that in a moment That also provided a little bit of a lift to stocks and all in all in the U.S. session It was strong We had the Dow and the S&P 500 both up 1.2 3% the NASDAQ up 1.3% But the futures in Asia tell a slightly different story hanging index futures down about 1% China futures down about two tenths of 1% Nikkei futures are down about four tenths of a percent 26,445 And so that would be a couple of hundred points below the cash close in Tokyo yesterday We had a big move up in oil WTI up at one O three 55 And we had to move up in yields too although we're steadying I was steady towards the end The yield on the ten year is at 2.17% Now on to the cash market in Sydney just opening up a tenth of 1% Doug to you Thanks Brian Well some of this positive sentiment seems to be tied to Russia avoiding default on a dollar bond payment We were told JPMorgan Chase processed coupon payments and then went on to send the money to Citigroup JPMorgan was the correspondent bank enacted as a payment agent on these Russian bonds Border at garvey is the head of debt and rate strategy at ING financial markets He says just because these funds have been processed doesn't mean Russia is out of the Woods Whistle waiting for confirmation that the foreign holders of these dollar bonds that are due to these coupons are getting receipt of those coupons And that's crucial It's all very well for the issue to say we've paid and to understand the process But it's a very complex process and until recipients receive the coupons and if there's a failure for recipients to receive coupons that would be a technical default Even with those remaining risk the move on this coupon payment seemed to spur a little bit of optimism in Russian bonds it did send prices higher across maturities Well after the bell FedEx posted quarterly profit below estimates earnings rising to $4 59 a share 6 inch shy of what the market was looking for the results reflect two challenges a labor shortage in the U.S. and lower than expected package volume here's Bloomberg's lead class go The sentiment of FedEx has been pretty negative for the last I would say a couple of years for its biggest rival UPS I think the good news here is that they maintain their outlook for the full year for EPS Obviously that is good FedEx has had a history as of late changing around It's outlook sometimes up sometimes down And FedEx is trading down 3.3% in after hours trade We're going to take a closer look at today's price action with our guest Cheryl Smith of trillium asset management will do that after we update global news.
