Our Thursday said to be the same. A code red air quality alert in the region is in effect today, this Thursday, June 8th, which means the air is unsafe and considered unhealthy for many. This level of air pollution poses a threat for everyone including sensitive groups of people like those suffering from asthma, heart disease, and the elderly. It's best to skip any exercise outside right now or the strenuous outdoor work until this weather settles down. Breathing in the smoke can cause a sore throat, irritated eyes or sinuses, as well as lower respiratory issues as such coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. WTLP at 305. There is not much you can do about all the smoke we're seeing, but there is something you can do to reduce air pollution in our region. You can avoid idling, so don't turn on that car until you're ready to go and turn it off as soon as you get to your destination. Avoid being really aggressive when you drive. When you escalate quickly, you burn a lot more fuel. Also, try to fill your tank up at night or in the morning if you can, and always keep your tires at the proper pressure setting. That will really improve your fuel efficiency. A state board has approved an emergency procurement of more than million a dollars to pay for a stockpile of widely used abortion pills due to uncertainty surrounding legal challenges against the drug's use. This stockpile includes, we're told, 30 ,000 doses of methadone and 5 ,000 of misoprostol. "Owned publications to kind of look at in terms of partnerships and when I asked Charles what his kind of approach is to help his company stand out in that regard, he mentioned that a big focus is making sure that 70 cents on the dollar that comes through the marketplace stays with the publisher. And I think there's a big focus on making sure that the publishers are really the ones winning in these marketplace and these businesses. And so it just seems like there's a big focus on, again, stability, longevity, and putting the publications first in the mix. And so we talk a lot about how he approaches the kind of investing into these publications and how publishers are supported in the process of approaching publications to join the network as well as well as the advertising side of it. And it just seems like there's a lot more relationship building that goes into the process, which is interesting. But yeah, that's one of the first questions I ask him. And so he has a really interesting answer to dive into that. Got it. I'm excited to dive into the conversation. Thanks, Kayla. Yeah, thanks, Tim. Charles, welcome to the podcast, how are you? I'm wonderful. Thank you. Thank you for having me. Yeah, so I wanted to have you on because I know you just launched a new programmatic marketplace for the national newspaper publishers association, which represents 200 black owned publishers, national newspaper publishers in the country. And I wanted to chat about this new initiative in this new launch. And I guess first question for you. When did the idea come along to create this programmatic marketplace? And how long has this initiative been in the works? Well, in my heart, this has been in the works for probably around ten years for the progress that we've made directly with the NPA, it's been culminating over the last 6 months. In the work that we do with some of the advertisers that we work with in their agents or agencies, we've been doing this for about four years now, three, four years. Including Procter & Gamble, a Verizon, General Motors, milk, you name it, Unilever in South Africa. So this is a global initiative. For the NMPA, specifically, it's obviously U.S. and national advertisers. But yeah, we're bigger than that too. Got it. And when was the exact launch date for this marketplace? Just want to make sure I have that date locked in. If I have it in my head right, this was February 4th that we had did the official announcement. But don't quote me on that, but it was the week of that. It was at the NMPA conference in Puerto Rico. And there was a lot going on down there. Right. Okay, so fairly new because we're recording this on Valentine's Day, February 14th. So only ten days or so in, but I am curious too because over the past couple of years now, there's been quite a few agencies launching their own kind of takes on multicultural marketplaces, focused on connecting advertisers with black owned LatinX owned and other kind of minority owned publications across the industry. And I'd love to know if you can if you envision your marketplace kind of working in tandem with some of these other offerings in the market or if there was this kind of open space in the market still that really you saw a need to launch this marketplace. I guess what about the industry wasn't quite fulfilling the needs of the N NPAs publishers? Well, I think there's a massive need. So let's start with first and foremost, the misnomer that the long tail is at enabled that may have been true 15 years ago. 20 years ago with ad networks. But as the industry in the world has moved to programmatic, the focus originally was ComScore two 50 ComScore 500. And that left a lot of small publishers, not just black, Brown, Asian, LGBTQ, but left a lot of small publishers, women, men, everyone. In the lurch to figure out how they were going to monetize their websites. And a lot of them turned to different means of methods to try to do that. But programmatic wasn't one of them. It wasn't super serving them. Some folks that were good at it that figured out how to play a volume game. Did succeed, but quite frankly, they grew out of their weight class. With those small publishers, they all need they all have different sets of needs in regard to how they're monetizing their website. So one of the publishers that we like to talk about as a good use case example is quintessential gentlemen. Online magazine publication, black owned and operated, you know, ten, 15,000 uniques, monthly, so not a big site at all. And quite frankly, this young gentleman was making money. Selling regional hard coded ad campaigns and sponsorships. So no real digital or real-time at enablement was happening there. So we brought an ad server to him. We brought our SSP to him. We brought a video player to him. And so now he's able to participate on a level that he never would have before, right? And those are things that alone would have cost him 1500, $2500 a month in technology fees, which quite frankly he wasn't making, so it wouldn't even make sense for him to do all of that just to come home with a check with 500,000 bucks, 5000 bucks a month. Just wouldn't pencil out for him. And that's the same across the board for a small publisher. So we super serve folks that are underrepresented. That was actually one of my questions too, 'cause to your point, a lot of smaller, to even midsize publications, independent publications don't have the tech stack or the sales team or the budget to invest in those areas. So how are you, I guess, supporting publishers that you see this opportunity. I guess how do you, I guess, subsidize that investment for them or align them with the right partners that they need and at what point is it coming back to you know, is it a rev share that you're sharing with them on the programmatic revenue earned in the future? Oh, absolutely. So the majority of the dollar goes to the publisher full stop. So unlike other people that in the marketplace, one, we built all the technology. So in some cases, we subsidized so they add server, we pay a third party ad server to bring those folks on to because we have a buy side answer who on the sell side of that server. So that's an important part that we pay for. Same thing with the video player. We didn't build our video player. We bring in a third party. And we bring those solutions to them, and we pay for that. So there's no out of pocket for them. And then on the other side of the question, an example of Procter & Gamble or Verizon more than 70 cents on the dollar actually goes to the publisher, so it's very unlike what you see in open marketplaces and programmatic. And even quite frankly, big DSPs that have curated their own marketplaces that publish numbers of 60% margin. That's a 30 cents on the dollar going to the publisher. We're the opposite of that. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. And I feel like it's quite an opportunity for publishers too. So I'm curious how you are sourcing publishers to work with. Obviously with the N NPA, you are working with them as a larger entity and they have 200 publishers within that. But is there an application process or who do you kind of how do you find publishers to work with? Because it sounds like a great deal for them, especially compared to other options on the market. Yeah, so we have done multiple things. We have a network of our own folks that know people. And so they were warm introductions and onboarded those folks. We started one of the first groups that we worked with for Procter & Gamble was national association of the black owned broadcasters. So it was all the black owned and operated broadcasters. In this country, that was our first bit and that added, I'm going to say about 450 URLs. And all the relevant publishers around that. So that was our first and then we started to blossom out. We hired some outsourced folks to make cold calls and the like, but we're always always looking. And so with this specific marketplace for an NPA publishers, curious how that partnership kind of came along. Was it more so stemmed from a need that they had come to you with or was it an opening you had identified yourself? What was the genesis of that? I think it was both, right? So first and foremost, doctor Ben chavis, who runs that organization is a hero to many black folks across America. He was fighting for human rights before there was the civil rights movement. And throughout the civil rights room, doctor chavis ran the NAACP. He helped organize the million man march. I mean he is he is a very important figure in our community. And these are very important voices in our communities. These are newspapers that and digital online URLs that most people have not heard of unless you're in the black community. And then they're the trusted voice. So for me, it was an extremely important and hence having conversations with doctor chavis even before reset. And ultimately, they had a need as well, right? Because in their instances, they were doing all direct sold. And big advertisers, national advertisers, and their agencies want programmer. They want to buy programmatically. And so we provide the tools and rules to make that possible for the agencies and the brands. And. Then PA. So in, I guess, maybe the first year if we're looking at a yearlong context, what is what are some of your goals for the publishers that you're working with? Do you have kind of set revenue goals through the marketplace? Is there a hope to try and you mentioned a lot of publishers are direct sold primarily in their advertising businesses? Is there a goal to get programmatic to maybe a third of their revenue, this first year or I guess what are some of the hopes and goals that you have set from a revenue perspective through the marketplace? First year, our goal in conjunction with Norman rich, who's helping us run that part of the project there is about 15% of their inventory to be monetized programmatically. That may grow, but that's the initial of our focus. And it depends on the publisher. So some publishers, I think an issue in the marketplace today is a lot of black publishers are oversold. And I guess that's a good problem to have, but at the same time, you've got folks trying to figure out how to feel on that inventory and not everyone knows how to do it. We'll leave it at that. In the case of what we're trying to do is we're trying to make sure that we're growing their businesses and helping them increase their traffic volume in addition to being able to take down what is the existing 15%, right? So this is a true grow the pie solution. Where we're helping growing the audience is on the site. So at the end of the day, they had Google there teaching literally black newspapers had increased their online rankings and increased their visits. Because all of these things matter, it's not just about ad enabling what exists. It's about playing catch up so that the whole thing grows the way we want it to grow. Right, because at the end of the day, programmatic is dependent on having eyeballs on the ads, so that makes a lot of sense. And I guess bearing in mind, so it sounds like there's a lot of partners involved in this marketplace, not just building the marketplace and enabling the tech if needed. You mentioned Google as a partner. But what are some of the other kind of, I don't know, strategic initiatives around kind of helping publishers to your point play catch up if needed. Well, I think it's so this is everybody movement. It's not just the publishers. So we've got the marketers that are involved that I've mentioned earlier. They play a critical role because without them reset can't subsidize. On the other side of that equation, you've got the work that we're doing with the forays on universal inclusion. And so making sure that marketers can reach inclusive audiences in them bringing all of their agency constituents and having that voice there. And then the ad agencies that play a role in making sure that they're a good stewards and pushing money towards these publishers. And working with them and us or others in regard to what is the definition of success in this. Is it just a click? Is it just an impression? Is it something else? How are we driving ROI for a brand like General Motors? That's important. It's not just about a charity movement here. These are real business cases. And so everybody, everybody is involved. We're going to take a quick break to hear from our sponsor, then we'll be right back. I'm Christina co, senior editor at custom. Media's in-house agency. In this podcast interstitial story, sponsored by mountain, we speak with Alexa gooch off. The company's product marketing manager about how marketers are segmenting audiences and making the most of their retargeting strategies across CTV. A retail brand could really take advantage of something like a loyalty segment and kind of combining that audience with a specific creative. So maybe you're giving a royalty shop or some sort of special promotion or discount in your making sure that that's tailored to that specific audience segment by then hitting them with that kind of timely creative. Once marketers take advantage of specific audience segments, they need to ensure they can scale that audience and continue to drive strong performance across CTV. With this, the key Alexa says is to look for provider with high CRM match rates and the ability to scale first party audience segments. Another crucial consideration is keeping CRM data fresh to help drive better performance. Those who under invest in prospecting will find their performance diminishes over the long run. As

Even though it goes against what a lot of us call bro code or even grow Co. To date, somebody that used to date somebody you care about and called a friend ever. Okay, The first thing is we have to define and we've been trying to figure that out. Here is what is considered a friend. Do we really know? If did he about our like? Actually friends? Are they like industry Associates? Also, Joy is trying to get her bag right now and all love to her. I mean, listen, if she has to rich baby daddies and going to get a third one let that girl live her life billionaire billionaire, right? Not to mention somebody else's X Could be my future soulmates. Okay with that I'm okay with that so weird to me because it's a guy I'm like. No, that's not. I don't want no guys leftover. Everybody is a left. Imagine this, So all right. So imagine These are left or right bar. Imagine, uh, taught me two of our coworkers. You know, somebody worked within the black reporter. Maybe North somebody years later there and God forbid. "Birth. Together as they go pro, does Kyle schwarber. Make the play Bobby dalbec made in the eighth inning, Sunday night at Tampa Bay? I do not think he does. I mean, Beck, is that a struggle at the plate? That is well documented and we know all know that he is pretty much hit or miss all or nothing at the plate. If you're talking Bobby dalbec but the play made it first base package on the chopper, the spinning cue ball, shot down to Rafi, Devers at third base and scooped that out of the dirt was very special playoff thought under pressure. Yeah. I mean, we don't know how long to get from for defensively. You know, he's a guy that came up as a catcher. Obviously, was there a little bit as a rookie it with the Cubs and since then, it's like ninety 9.5% of the time he's played left field so from you know, it's going to be maybe at times an adventure, but the point is to get his back in the lineup, we've seen with the Red Sox, first baseman have done all kinds of leave the season. Like you said, dalbec has been, you know, authors, And a couple hot weeks here, and they're pretty much in the slump All Year, Danny Santana and marwin Gonzalez. The guys, they try it out there have been uh, you know, abysmal as well. We've seen Frankie Cordero, come up and have a little success here and there and the last couple of weeks, but the Red Sox needed to fill, you know, they can't have a dead spot in their line-up every night. And so they they definitely feel that they come August 15th or wage war was back. I will no longer be an issue. Yeah, I'm just curious to see how Alex Cora who I think has always been very underrated for the way he manipulates his line up and and Thursday. It's the puzzle pieces in to make it a productive off, certainly a productive offense of line up and suddenly he I don't think he gets enough credit for his knowledge of the game and where to position people and put guys, in position on the field to do the best job, they can defensively and that and that really helps their pictures down. Yeah, we saw that in 2018, you know, when they were at their best, you know, on a daily basis it was you know, either holster Nunez a second either Pearson Moreland at first, you know, a lot of them are very solid defensively. You know, you look at a guy like Mitch Moreland, who is a gold glove candidate all the time. Steve Pearce was solid over there. He mix and match. And and you know the laundry for the Red Sox gave TJ Hernandez. So they could put in a defensive spot for me is going to be one of the best defenders on the field. So I think they're happy with that at times. Like I said, we don't know what's going to happen at first base before, but it's it's a risk. They're willing to take off the robe was roblez made his debut Sunday night at Tampa Bay. He's the right-hander they got at the deadline from twins for right-hander, Alex, sure. Who went to MIT backed off soda, minor-league picture, and then they also got left, handed picture, Austin, Davis from the Pirates. What do you think those two guys can contribute? I think, you know, if you're looking at from a Red Sox perspective, they're looking for interesting arms that weren't going to cost you much. I'm sure they had talks with the Cubs about Craig, Kimbrel. But you saw, what they had to give up Nick Madrigal, who was just on a second, baseman already was sitting like 3:20 and, you know, eighty five major league games and he's out for the rest of this year. But there's a guy who's under control forever as track record in Major League success. I mean, trying to think the Red Sox would have to give up, you know, for a guy like camera, it's a price. They weren't willing to pay so and Alex sheriff is a guy who's had success this year with a kind of a fringe Prospect and then Michael Chavis who obviously was just a change of scenery candidate. At this point of the struggles in the last two years, the Red Sox didn't give up anything that they thought would meaningfully fit into their plans for the next few years. And and exchange got, you know, two arms that are not the same thing, flashes arms out in the trade market. The two guys that they think. Okay, we can do something with the stuff or we can put them in position to succeed. You know. Robles has been around for a while. I think he has like six or seven Big League Seasons with a few different teams birth. Some success in Anaheim and is on, you know, is a rental guy in Davis, who is controlled for a few more years. They needed a lefty because, you know, they felt like with Josh Taylor and dogs and they didn't have enough left-handed depth, not the flashiest moves, obviously schwarber was the big move, but those are the types of guys that their rentals, they don't cost you much, you bring them into the bullpen see what they could do. It's just another of, you know the the the real cost is they lost Brandon Workman, who was pitching morals. So you know it's not it's not a big risk but there's potential payoffs went, you know, you get the red socks off other team like getting these guys in their Labs. Say okay, we have the video on this guy, we think that if we, you know, increase his change after usage, drop his arm and a little bit, then he'll become a stud for us in the bullpen, every team that smarter than the rest in that regard. And so, you know, we'll see if the Red Sox could do with these two, what's really important for us? I think too high and Bloom and Red Sox ownership, Sam Kennedy, and John Henry at all. That they didn't have to disrupt what they were trying to do with the farm system. That is rebuild it, right? I mean, build up the stock, don't dip into it just to make some rental moves here at the trade deadline in 2021 and make sure everything the key pieces are in place right to move forward and they accomplish that and they're still in great position to make some type of run off last two months, and then, you know, let the cards fall where they may and October. But but the important part of this is that they didn't disrupt the true. You know, Blue Chip prospects in their system that they're building a right? And although Ramirez who was the twenty year old picture that they gave up for schwarberg? He's a guy that had kind of risen up Prospect rankings this year but he if you look at it was not one of the top five or six pitching prospects in the system and that that's important, you know? And so I think, you know, you can give up a twenty-year-old that low, a was three or four steps before coming in the majors feel dead, A better about that than, you know, giving up a tent or house. Obviously, you're giving up a, you know, even a Brian model who's injured, either one of those moves. I think we both know. "I also think part of the reason they did it is Shorebirds under contract through next month. So you get another year of Outfield play Hunter renfro's deal. Is a one-year deal. He's probably going to be expensive if he keeps it up. He's probably on the way out. So they took the Lesser player because they want to tenure even though he might not be as much of a fit. That's what the Patriots did when they traded from Mohamed Sanu like definition. That's what the Mohamed Sanu trade was. It was we're going to sacrifice fit. We're going to sacrifice ability because we want the tenure, and it's always a bad idea, it was a bad idea here. I think they needed pitching. I don't know why they got the pictures. They got. They needed starters, they didn't need Bullpen, they needed, good pitching, not bad pitching. I've been a proponent of trading Michael Chavis. I never thought he had a role in this organization, they should have treated him two years ago when he had actual value, he doesn't. Now I they still had sold them short, they could have gotten more. So I think schwarber's a nice addition in a bubble, you add a good bat, you add depth in the Outfield, which they need. That's great. It wasn't their biggest need. They needed a first baseman. They need a job. Starting pitcher, they didn't do that. The other teams in their division, got monumentally better bear. EOS has a great addition for Toronto. I think I don't know why the Yankees did what they did. I think they're out of it, but it cash must have been told. It's play offs or bust, so he gets aggressive a huge. Joey Gallo fan. I think he's great, they get him with 10 year or two and then they get Anthony Rizzo who's a good player. So, I mean, he's a major major red flag for the Red Socks. For me, I was really put off by this deadline. This has been a fun team. They felt like a team worth investing in. I don't think they needed. They, I don't think they need it to blow up the school system to do it. But here we are, they they didn't address their biggest needs and most of the trades they made. I, I don't think either of those, our leaders are going to make a difference. I wouldn't have made either of those deals. Schwarber's a nice deal, but you're going to have to, you know, karfunkel the line up so much to get them in. It's probably not going to be worth it, okay? So let's move on to the Bruins David. You don't haven't taught you, don't have to take off. You pretty much sums it up. I I feel like I was listening to your guys, Matt McCarthy in Maz right at the trade, deadline on Friday in the car ride home and wage. They were saying that maybe this means that management in high and Bloom and John Henry, don't think of this Red Sox team has overachieved a little bit. Maybe think of this team is not quit. World Series caliber yet into that. I say BS, like total BS because they certainly are the download. They're having Chris Sale come back, Alex Cora is an absolute wizard. Like that's just telling everybody in that Clubhouse extremely short to say that that they don't have a World Series caliber team and that's why if it was about the luxury-tax, also be off like gross. Yeah, that's disgusting. So, the only thing I can think of is the big trades, maybe not for Rizzo, but like for like a Max Scherzer who moved or something like that if the teams called, yep. Red Sox were trying to get involved in that and they were like, give us Tristan Cassius or give us the ran or, or what? I can understand why they didn't want to make those moves, right?.

"The movie for the audience. Reaction to blinded by the light. That's true but yet new big franchises where there's big moments being with other fans who have been on this journey with you right. It's like going to the avengers marathon which we did resign and seeing literally seeing ironman. Did they do hulk. Did iron man hulk. The words captain america iran to captain america and then of avengers and we watched. All of those people were costume. There was a guy that dress like. Nick fury all just like him and and and all of that kind of stuff. They'll sleeve sleeved slept from the beginning of captain america to the second the credit started rolling. And then we watched adventures and you awake for avengers. I love that kind of stuff that you go to the theaters. So in his cool and you buy popular because you can't watch a movie theater without but it was cool. That marvel was like talking about like guys got to get back to the years. I know you're you're you're worried about it and stuff. But they're doing that with the it's better to imagine the audience reaction for But the real excitement from this video wasn't about that it was the basically the faintest morsel real rain at the end to get people excited about back to this year's giving something to look forward to and there's a lot coming up I often paying a little bit of of new footage for blackmail. Nothing really new. I was more like little action scenes instead. Nothing like revolutionary. Now it was cool. Taskmaster like kick up the she only captain america does. That's true but the they confirmed the release date of july nice twenty twenty one pretty soon after that. They also played some clips from the trailer. Ashaji's and nothing new there really they just kind of Put that in there And giving us it's released september twenty twenty one So not too far away and then we actually got our very first. Look at marvel's eternals. Nobody saw this coming. It didn't really give us too much all But it's got a pretty big cast. I recognized the vast majority of actually got in there. And it's just gonna change the way we see the mcu explain what you mean by that the characters they're talking about in the trailer like we started all this stuff. I from what very little i know. I'm just i see how it works it. It'll be may six twenty twenty two so just after stars danes yet And then this was. This was cool. We gotta title revealed for black panther is black panther will kanda forever So we've been they. They've come out and said that they're not going to replace Those character they're going to use still in this movie which i'm really confused. How they're going to do that. I i don't know. I mean it's it's not the same as laya. No i mean you can't reuse scenes for the main character confused about how you're hiding but the thing is loose black panthers seen in verse movie when he's in the mask and battle sequences cgi so it's technically cgi to recreate traffic. Those minutes easing cgi to recreate bypa-. That's true. Do you think since hong black They're calling it black pants black panther kinda forever. Do you think that could moon something through the story and then going that out now. I mean look at thor love and thunder four. I do. i think there's going to be a transferring of the mantle of black panther in this film. They have to continue to keep black panther as part of the story. But they can't do it beyond this film using chavis boseman. So you're going to have hurry. Or what about the guy that was sort of the down gorilla. He's gonna rain gorilla costume type thing. Yeah what if he takes on the black panther mantle at this point in he was sort of an a a a rival of nikkei's jolla day became carter's part of endgame He's part of dollars. Infinity work so bring have that transfer and let him be part of that. I think it'd be an interesting storyline measure. We've ever seen anything like that in the comics though so a knowledgeable enough but we got rooms day for that. That is july eight twenty two then after that we got another title. Reveal for the second Captain marvel it is actually the marvels. Do you think that this is actually a miss. Marvel and captain marvel team up midget judging by the logo. I mean you have miss marles logo and captain martin. And i'm wondering if we're gonna see monica about. I think we are hiring. And she's a big part of so we're going to get the three three captain marvel's kind of so. I think that'll be fun movie. I like i think the fan girling from miss marvel for kathy marvels kind of you know. Yeah you're we haven't really gotten a side kick really in the us. That like like robin and batman taffy. Yeah i think that we tried. We saw a little bit of that with spider man and iron man. But i don't think that we've seen it to the extent that we will with us and that is coming out another gr. Eleven twenty two then. We got ant man in the last month media coming out february seventeenth a gardens the galaxy volume three may fifth twenty twenty three and finally. Just fantastic for release dates or anything for that as exciting though. There's a lot to look forward to in face barnum's you what are you guys looking forward to seeing and what. That's difficult to choose. Because i'm definitely tied on strange this firemen doctor from It's really hard for me to choose because doctor strange is my favorite. Mcu movie by man is my favorite more character. So it's really difficult to choose between those two. So i guess i'll just have to see africa. Farming comes up. I ever. I am more and more intrigued by the eternal. Because i don't know these characters. I don't know this story It's coming from way and left field or the other side of the galaxy or universe or whatever And so. I'm curious to see kind of where this fits into this whole face for and what that could mean for the future. I think that that could impact phase for more than anything else. I'm excited about that. Yeah i think. I'd say i'm a little bit tie between Internals and janki just change. It looks like a fun Good martial arts community you know is immoral plus in my e-e-e-e-no tie into irs storage bitten. But yeah i see her going with the eternal could really change the way the mcu proceeds things right side for that One last question. It seems like marbles pushing hard for people to start going back to theaters. Do you guys think that theaters will ever go back to normal or has the rise of at home kill. I think the theaters will be rising better than we expect. I mean i did a flash bowl when i was looking at movies about a movie theaters and said when movies are released. Do you think you'll go to the theater seats streaming wait till gets a streaming or just won't watch it at all and ninety five percent say go to a so. A lot of people are waiting a lot of people who are ready. And they're they're they're worried about this covid and i mean going to nobody. I mean now have a lot of people in the theater for moving big. I mean we went to go see mortal kombat and didn't have anybody but i mean the theater wasn't that popular so i'm going to give it a little bit more nuanced answer to this. I think that the number of theaters in the united states is going to decrease yeah notably by tens of percents twenty thirty percent decrease in the number of theaters. I think you're gonna see a lot of theaters closing with. Ibm see though being lead to read it. Well i think that also you're gonna see That types of films that are going to be shown in these theaters is gonna change. You're not going to see a lot of you know you're not gonna see a lot of ron coms. You're not going to see a lot of you know artsy fartsy. What is it the artists in film like that you can see a lot less that on the and they're going to be if you know. Spider man is in theaters and it's a fourteen cinema. You know what i'm talking about. You're going to see ten. Ten of those is going to be spiderman and they are going to try to to a piece of. This means that you and i've talked about this. I think we've even talked about this on the show. The movie theater chains the company cinemark. Amc ryol all of these companies. They are going to have to reinvent the cinema experience. And we'll see that with that the the cinema week that they're doing in july so if those things happen people will go back to the theaters but theaters changed forever. Yeah i i don't know about you guys. But i m hyped for face the near planning so much content coming in the next three years and we didn't even talk about all the tv shows. There are a lot of those. There's a lot but if word wasn't enough to get you to go to theaters and take barbara's word for it you're going to want to watch these films in theater But none of that. I think nathan's been itching to talk about certain movie for weeks now. Yeah it's two weeks ago. Justice society world war two is released. I didn't watch it. Because i didn't wanna spend twenty dollars watch it. I watched it today and it was more. It was better than i thought it was going to be. I'm so excited to tell you guys about it. There will always warriors in this. But i will also give an onslaught review people. You wanna watch it awesome. That's coming up after these ads specifically chosen for you because you are good enough you are smart enough and dog gonnit people like you this tattooing size our guys you could become a superhero quad And we talked about this every episode but is really serious. And when i mean that i mean imagine being a kid that's living in honduras in poverty Dirt floors no running water Barely has enough food for You know you are sure you're gonna even get a meal one meal every single day and then someone in the united states that can afford to invest a dollar thirty day thirty nine dollars a month Decides to adopt you basically and help pay for all of your schooling your food your your education your medicine all this also helps you kind of have hopes he stars is all about hope right you. Can you imagine the hope of knowing that there's somebody that cares about you and it doesn't just change your child's life. It changes the entire family's life because now more funds are available to help care for other children within the family because that one child is taking care of all of this happens through organization called one child. "I'm Jonathan Cape Part and this is Cape Up Benjamin crump. In attorney for the family of Ahmad arbitrary is perfectly clear on his view of what happened to the twenty five year old Black Man jogging near his Georgia home. On February twenty third chased him let community until they caught up with and then they executed him like a modern day. Mitch if crump's name sounds familiar. It's because he was the lawyer for the family of Trayvon Martin. The seventeen year old shot and killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer in Florida on February. Twenty Sixth Twenty twelve listen to crump talk about the eerie similarities between the February. Twenty twenty killing of the MoD arbitrary and the February twenty twelve killings of Trayvon Martin. Right Down Attorney Benjamin crump thank you very much for coming on the PODCAST. Thank you fabric down at their decades covering. They're for the story. So you and I got to know each other eight years ago because of the the killing of trayvon Martin and the similarities between the killing of Trayvon Martin and the killing of a Marbury are really. It's kind of Irie. Could you bring us up to up to speed on on the facts of the case as as we talk right? Now I'll tell you have ever similar those fat X. Between tricky behind and Ahmad Aubrey navigate tragically Ahmad. Aubrey was changed by a murderous duo of FOB. Said to a Gregory and Travis met Michaels and another man then William Brian who has yet to be arrested ads on this day. He is alleged to beat the individuals driving other a ambushed Ahmad and was taken the video recording of this execution ago. By saying a I have a teacher Johnson and Jive was on and he was a person who with are routinely. He liked to stay in shape as many people. A heat with said show as for whatever reasons we believe. We know why they did it but they suspected him of a burglary and a jumped into their pickup truck shotgun. Jonathan and a three fifty seven magnum and they chased him that community into they caught up with him and then they execute it him like a modern day mentioned. And we see on that. Video is so tragic Washing see that video. You can't see and that's what happens. We watched the execution of his young on all black man killed. We believe because he was racially profile. And the police show up and they take the words of the killer's apparently because the killers are allowed to go home and sleep in their bed. Bites while on. Albury is taken to the more you know There are so many things here In the The facts of the case that you just spelled out and I just want it there. Is the police report as it was filed in the moments after after the shooting after the killing where it says the witnesses said that arbitrary looked like a suspect who had been Breaking into that particular house and that They saw him quote unquote hauling ass down the street and when you look at the video I WanNa talk about how we got this video to begin with but when you look at the video. He's not hauling. Ass Johnson. He's doing what most people in America he is. Simply interest is and you know you put in contact. They come up with some a believable reasons. The killers down. It's you'd think about a walking while driving while black Both in general it is apartment literal while blatch Trae Bob more walking home while blatch may is submitted things Attia Jefferson sitting in her house living while black and now we come to Amman Albury and he's just Jonathan Wa black. They suspected him for that. All right let's talk about the McMichael's Chavis Michael Is the person who had the shotgun And fired the shots. That killed Ahmed Arbitrary and George. Mcmichael is the father who is standing in the back of the pickup truck with a three fifty seven magnum. A talk about why Gregory McMichael in particular is problematic in this case. Certainly we believe that the police did not arrest these murderous fob and said do also the cost Gregory met. Michael was a former police officer and had a thirty year. Employment will as a detected as a DA with the local district attorney. Glenn cowards so we believe they did not want to arrest their friends their colleagues and so that is what reason. We suspect Jonathan that they didn't arrest him. The other reason is even more heinous. We believe because Aubrey was a young for American that the police simply took the word of his white careless that he was up to no good that he was committing a burglary without doing any of appropriate investigation. Apparently because you know if he was A. Where's the burglar's mask? Where's the Burgers toes whereas the burger bags you know whereas the incident allegations of burglaries in this neighborhood? In the past says they suspended he had committed burglaries before. Or is it simply? They know that he wasn't a burger but it didn't matter because they had made a decision that they were not going to rest their France. Who happened to me? The killing this young black man

Positioning a New Tailwind CSS Product
"I am joined by my friend inlands and how's it going in. Are you doing good so the reason I have you on the show today. you know you've been on the show before Kinda Hannah. I'd like to bring you on the show anytime I wanna get like I think of you as kind of like my software. Business uncle gets talking once in a while. The has all this wisdom awesome awesome. Chavis have diamond. I'm trying to figure something out and just get some get some perspective for someone who's been the game for awhile crazies offer uncle so yes so kind of what I wanted to chat with you. Today is me and Steve Showgirl who worked on at factoring. Ui with are working on this new product that we're still trying to figure out exactly exactly what it's going to be but like there's some things that were just struggling to to feel like we've made a confident decision on. I thought it'd be cool to get your input on that. So what we're trying to make is obviously. Steve Work on talents the SS furred punches reasons and people use it and it's cool or whatever but because it's like a utility framework the sort of a hole where a lot of people who try to use it Kinda get stuck because they just don't even though that like the workflow. They just don't know like what to do with it. I mean it's like this draft okay. I I WANNA make a list group. I WANNA make enough bar. It's like all right there but yea with tell when you're sorta like left your own devices so what we thought would be kind of an interesting way to try and like make the whole thing sustainable so we can actually you build a business around this tool while keeping it open source and continuing to build free stuff and everything is to kind of enter the sort of like you. I kid or themes uh-huh space kind of like bootstrap has their official theme store. We're trying to figure out like what does it look like to make a product like that for Tell when users search for aspiring toe and users even and even not positioning is kind of hard to figure out so kind of explain where we're we're thinking kind of a going and then I'm curious to get your take on idea in general and then also. I have some specific stuff that I think would be interesting to get into. Let's do so we're thinking is basically kind of like A. I guess like a Web portal. You know if you WANNA use nineteen ninety any seven lingo some sort of like logging area where like Steve of just built out tons and tons of different components and they're kind of right now. We're thinking kind of bigger components then. Maybe you might see with like traditional. CSS Framework the stuff. That's a little the more complex entire pricing section of a landing page or something with like three cards and sort of some interesting layout with like the featureless and and all that stuff and the idea would be that all the stuff would just be delivered straight up. HTML since talent is all utility classes. It's kind of Nice that you can actually just like save tears. HTML of the classes are embedded right into it. You can just copy and paste. It and you have something to start from. so we're thinking yeah. It's like some logging area. People can kinda browse all these different categories of stuff copy and paste into their projects and from a design perspective. Originally we are trying to figure out like should should it be should we try and make it like intentionally very varied and like terms how it looks like some things are like superfly. Ui with crazy colors and some things are maybe like more traditional or something's more enterprise or whatever I think we're thinking kind of make things a little bit more like consistency Stinson a little bit easier to sort of pick and choose different things knowing that like they're gonna fit together like fairly nicely but ends up making the whole thing kind of feel like kind of like one theme but not really at the same time because you still have a lot of choice and like you know okay well. I want a four card pricing greater. I WANNA PRICING TAE. They were want like a pricing thing with a variable pricing slider or like enter a bunch of inputs and you know what I mean. So there's all sorts of different ways. You could do it and the nice thing. We're hoping anyways utility approaches that since you just copying each imo he should feel pretty safe just like changing what you want to change right like oh it kind of want like to add like a second button here. We'll just copy paste the button that's already there. I WANNA use a little bit less padding here. Just change a p six to a p four. You know to go whereas I feel like if you if you look at a lot of the other tools on the market for this sort of thing you get this giant zip file. That's like the mystery box. You don't even know it's going to be in and they're gonNA come with like. Is it like a bunch of SAS files. Is it stylus files. Is it just pods the assess do they have like their own gulp scripts. It's all like just just like is asked to rate so I'm kind of hoping that like one of the value propositions here is like you sort of know what you're getting because like it's tell when stuff it's just. HTML it's all using the default tailwind classes not like anything fancier accustomed so it's very transparent and you get what you get and you kind of know what to expect so. I guess just like even based on that description like how does that a hate you well. I mean it's it's sort of interesting because it's different a little bit different than what we talked about this when you were. I thought of it so I guess there's the two sides us right. What you've described is like website template. You're building a website and it's GonNa pricing page has got like a tour tour and whatever you need lay out and whatever design and well I kinda visit as was more apt components so that's going to be there too but give me your like what is Ian. landsman is like definition of an APP component again so that's just like the you know apt APP. Dot. You know help spot dot Colorado. You know you're like the actual like you I for a B. Two B. APP. Let's say or consumer APP at the APP itself lists and table views and form control walls all that stuff so to me those are pretty different things kind of I understand them being together also in tailwind type scenario but I do think they're pretty different like I think the APP controls all seem like super clear and clean to me and like a lot of people have that need developers are like I don't WanNa build any of this stuff. It's it's terrible to build at all or you're trying to take some boots jobs saying but the really basic thing bootstrapped gives you doesn't like give you really what you need and so you need to like mess with all that and from your end it's cleaner just seems like a light version and dark version. Maybe a little build builder. You is that lets you like mess with colors or something and like it's a different variations or whatever but the front of the website doc it's all crazy over there people are going to be like we need like two hundred themes to choose from because. I don't want to have the same theme as some other people and beloit get a a lot stuff and people wanna big hero and a small hero and no hero and long form in this you know there's like all the different million variations and you have some designers involved or they're gonNa uh we want it to look like this look. Can we make this thing you got from them. Do this thing like don't like to kind of pretty different things. Some of the controls could cut across both ways and things things but I was the first thing that just kind of struck me as if you're sure you want to be in that side like the theme forest and the world like do you want to compete with theme forest in General Yeah Yeah yes. That one's kind of yeah. It's interesting that you think of it as being separate. I guess I don't think of it as being a separate as you do but maybe that's just because like I've actually been trying to hack stuff together and economy feels like more unified but I can see why you'd get that thought but yeah even with like like the marketing stuff I think the goal is to make things as sort of interchangeable as possible right so like imagine you're trying to build billick marketing say maybe we have fifteen different heroes to choose from but the idea is like all those heroes are all going to look good with all these feature section all these feature sections the again now to do that. We kind of have to make like some of course like baseline designed decisions right like do we are flat or do we go like with some shadows hazard to go square. Do we go rounded. You know the the sorts of like asked that decisions that you have to sort of carry through the whole thing for to not look like some like disaster asked here but what I was hoping and I don't know if this is going to be true and it'll be I'm curious to know it your perspective as like my hope visit people are going to feel comfortable taking a hero the has rounded buns and being comfortable getting rid of the round corners just like deleting that utility goal. We kind of want not to be square. Whatever but I also know that people are necessarily going to have the imagination necessary to even think to do that some of the time yeah well. I think that's what it was like. The semen woman in the market is so different when you're building the APP. It's like you know you have to construct all of this stuff like you're literally building everything when you're building up part of Saas Upright and and the the like marketing site part is like more variation in it because there are definitely people who just install wordpress and they wanNA download some. I'm crazy theme forest thing that's got five thousand files and seven Java script systems and just like this giant monstrosity with customers but let you do all kinds of stuff so the whole thing but obviously by the flip side. You're not in some ways. You're not really targeting not market very much at all because you're still going to be doing the people who are building the whole thing. I'm from scratch that way. It's kind of you know. I think you're pure target right. He's going to be the like somebody building. They're building the marking working page. They're building the APP belt holding a lot of times now. They're one APP these days. Some you know now usually but not you know more like a bigger business building. It would usually won't build it that way. he's like a different. CMS Say Austin differing in group that does it and it's totally unrelated to the APP stuff but that's a big concern for you necessarily and what you're doing. You know your audience really yeah yeah. I think that any sense I think like in our heads trying to figure out like is what we're providing a bunch of different like sorta like themes where like you can kind of make choices says that ended up with like totally different looking sites or do we want to pitch it more like this is like the first kind of theme you know what I mean and maybe it's an only ends up being like one you know of course we're just. GonNa Start with one and see what happens but thinking of it more like okay. Steve designed all this stuff. He designed it all consistent and so it's like sugar at scale you could buy about also like with a focus on hopefully hopefully trying to make it so that people feel comfortable making little tweaks here and there to like you know put their own spin on it like for example one of the decisions that we've made up to at this point which may or may not be a good decision. We've been designing everything using just like basically like black as sort of like the primary color so whereas something something like bootstrap like primary buns are blue links are blue and you know everything looks like a blue site where dislike associates like a dark gray. That's like really neutral but still like totally polished and let people like change that to green if they have green brand color changes to blue Febblue Branko or whatever so hopefully the people stuff still turn out different just because they're just GonNa you know in Jack their own little flavor things but again. I don't know for sure like if people are going to want to do that like it's hard to know like how off the shelf do people want things to be versus how much to they just want

Venezuela, Gabriela And Venezuelan Government discussed on The Indicator from Planet Money
"She works for food shown Maho Venezuela. It's an internationally funded think-tank -ffiliated with the Venezuelan opposition party Gabriella team. Look at all the data. They can get their hands on about the country and a lot of it comes from local, universities, nonprofits, and communists, all over the world because the government itself is not publishing rely. Liable data. We do a lot of research to understand what these structure of the state is in understanding what the structure of the state is is not easy. Gabriela says the government seems totally disorganized. It's taken over hundreds of businesses, and they all seem to be losing money. She says basic services are collapsing. And meanwhile, the bureaucracy grows and grows indicator number one nine hundred ninety six that's the number of companies by Gabriele count. That are now owned by the state this supermarket chains and hotel taints that internet providers in Venezuela. They belong to the government. They even own like bakery shops things like that. It's crazy, and it's not even profitable. I have seen the balance sheets of all of this institutions. That's what I do, you know and all of them gated transfers from the central government in order to operate all of them. So. Sustainable financially unsustainable. It's like why don't you just I dunno give it away to anyone? I mean, it's better to do that than to keep you know, at burden on your budget case in point the electric company in two thousand ten Chavis. The then president nationalized electrobi- in Venezuela to make it more for table for everybody. They government nationalized it and. Come a mess, a mess. The government's is outside. Attackers are infiltrating the power grid and shutting down that's why they say the country's been experiencing all of these rolling blackouts. But Gabriela says there are no attackers. It's just that the country cannot afford to keep the lights on anymore. The infrastructure is collapsing. The country has rolling blackouts all the time. Now Gabriel says that the once vibrant city of dacas is often pitch black for hours and hours. And she says the consequences of these power outages can be really extreme just in the blackout eighty newborns. Die just in one hospital. Yeah. It was horrified. Of course for all the businesses that the Venezuelan government is nationalized. There is one that traditionally has really driven. It's a Konami and that business is all traditionally about a quarter Venezuela's economy comes from oil production because the country has the biggest oil reserves in the world. What about the oil is is many coming in from the state oil company? Yes. Okay. So some somebody is still coming. But you know, we I remember when when this whole thing started when Chavez won the presidency. I remember that we were producing three million barrels a day. No. We are not even producing one million barrels a day. And you know, impresses are are lower than they used to be during the bonanza. So for them. I mean, they are running out of options running out of options in part because for so long for more than a decade, economists agree that the government has been mismanaging its production of oil. And now the Venezuelan government just needs money. Gabriela says it's getting money from any place, it can government and the military of taken over some gold mines in the southern part of the country, and there are many reported accounts of the military and the government being tied in with cocaine trafficking. I mean, this is serious. I mean, we have government officials involved in and drug trafficking. One of the big cartels in Venezuela. For example, is called cartel of the sons that is reportedly reference to the gold stars on epaulets of military generals. But any money the cartel or any other business does bring in isn't necessarily going to fix the country's infrastructure. Or even help fund the Venezuelan economy. A lot of it is being funneled to a tiny minority of people many of them tied to the government and the military and my notes still has the military support. Which is one of the reasons why he's been able to hold onto power this long. This very small group of new millionaires that belong to the elite of the government. And I mean, all of them have power plans and per day didn't suffer from the blackout own power plants. Yes. So we call them into follows and to the yes, translation, if that it's like when you log in something we call him like that because we say that they are plugged into the government's. So they received all these benefits, and they are like the new elite here, and you see them everywhere. How can you spot the into Fatah's? It's very easy. All of them drive. This black big trucks bullet through and they have security guys around in them. In motorcycles. Meanwhile, says ninety percent of end Waylon citizens live in poverty that is today's second planet money indicator. Ninety percent of NS Waylon are in poverty, and even a lot of Innes Wayland to had a fair amount of money before the crisis are now totally broke. Because of hyperinflation flation is estimated to be running at ten million percent. Ten million percent. The cash has become so worthless. People are actually making bags out of the cash or currency was completely destroyed. So that's one of the things I see like, you know, the function of money lost on our currency. And that means things like food keep getting more and more expensive, relative to what people are earning. So a lot of people cannot afford enough to eat. And there's not much food around even for those who can't afford it the collapsing infrastructure in the country means food is not getting produced by farmers and the food that is getting produced is not getting delivered to stores in twenty seventeen. The average Venezuelan adult lost nearly twenty five pounds. Gabriel says she sees evidence of this weight loss every single day your co two three people in Venezuela. You're very skinny. Yeah. It's very very shocking to see that guerrilla says things are so bad. Now that a lot of people have just left the country. In fact, an estimated three million people that is ten percent of the entire population has fled many people just walk across the border to countries like Colombia with nothing at all just trying to get outta Venezuela. And that is our third indicator. Ten percent of the Venezuelan population gone Gabrielle says she sees the effects of this in Caracas, the sidewalks are emptier many stores are shuttered many houses are just standing empty. Gabriel says that apartments that used to rent for more than a thousand dollars a month back when the economy was good. Are now asking for rents of less than two hundred dollars a month that is more than eighty percent drop because so many people have left Gabriela has thought about leaving to her father is American. She could go, but she says when she sees how bad the numbers are getting how bad things are getting. She thinks there has to be big change on the horizon survey by I'm still here, the refinish that I believe that it's possible. But I don't know how much longer they can resist Gus is not an easy place to live every day Gabriella different parts of the country. Collapsing. All around her tomorrow. We're gonna follow Gabriela through her day.

Venezuela's inflation to reach 1 million percent, IMF forecasts
"We've been hearing for some time about the economic collapse in Venezuela one way. To measure that is by calculating how fast consumer prices are rising and today the International Monetary Fund, made this prediction expects, inflation in Venezuela to reach a million percent sometime this year also. Today the Venezuelan government issued new banknotes. The authorities are in effect hoping to counter inflation by just taking five zeros off the national currency the. Bolivar maybe colleague Leonardo Russia says this economic meltdown has been. Years in the making he's been coming for for many years it came with the collapse of the Venezuelan economy with president will go Chavis, and collapse in oil prices so he had a combination of Venezuela depending heavily on oil prices in a government is a socialist government Which tried, to control prices and, all that created a lot of economic instability and political dissent for. At least four years with street protests. And dozens of people killed in that also pushed the government into into a different note so presently colossoma. Doodoo has been facing a rising inflation and the situation did. Really deteriorated over the past year or so These new notes have read it's called the sovereign Bulevar. And that it's pegged to a crypto currency called the petro which was recently created by the Madero, government and that the value of that. Is based on Venezuela's oil reserves what is what is this, new currency. It is complicated crypto currencies and, virtual currencies are very complicated to explain but in a way it works like a, like a gold standard he pegged the value of, this currency to a certain amount of all your barrels within. As well has also golden diamond in a way it's to try to. Give any new currency in the economy some credibility some tokens were issued of that and people were encouraged to buy that as investment and death is what you know the value of. The new currency will be too but the new sovereign delivers that is replacing the strangely. Name strong believers will be new notes with five zero. Is being cut off they were supposed to come into force in In April or may. But apparently the bills are. Being made in England by Delarue and they they had trouble to pay for that and rearrange and that was delayed and delayed at the time they were going to knock off three years of the. Currency in April in the inflation is? So high that. They decided, to go for five zeros so whatever was, a thousand delivers becomes one cent it's really difficult to understand for. People who live in in a stable economy when will the new notes be available they will be, available tomorrow in theory the the new. Currency is valid zone today but on Monday it was a, Bank holiday. So that people would prepare and, what we saw in Caracas and all the seats people queuing up for petrol prices, have been going up by a lot since last, week since that was announced and people haven't been able actually. To to take out the new currency's anything below a thousand believers won't. Be currency anymore because that's less than one
