Joey Logano wins at Phoenix to earn 2nd NASCAR championship
"Joey Logano believed he was a favorite to win the NASCAR championship in 2022 even before the season began We've been here before We know what it feels like to lose And it's the worst feeling in the world If I'm being honest and winning is the best feeling in the world See back it up with a dominating performance in the season finale at Phoenix raceway driving away with the win and the championship We had a good car and I told the guys after we put it on the pin the other day I said well we got them down Now we put our foot on them right And that's the attitude you gotta have Logano held off teammate Ryan Blaney and Ross Chastain who was making his first appearance as a championship contender Jerry Jordan Avondale Arizona

"On the final app with us once again is Ross Chastain. Welcome back to the show. All right, for you, anything earth shattering, mind-blowing, crazy going on in your life right now? It's in a while year of my life as you just go back a calendar year to transition to track house, but definitely this last week then, you know, all of our goals and hopes and dreams are attainable and to be 80 day and go through this for the first time is incredible. So yeah, we did something last Sunday that got some clicks and some views online. That's pretty awesome. It's pretty awesome to watch as a fan as a media member. I mean, for me, it looked like you were out there playing chess and everyone else was stumbling around playing candy land. It was that intense. That different that next level. Well, I do know how to play chess, which might surprise people, but yeah, look at this, you got to think far ahead and plan your move and be able to react in the moment and this was just a pure thought that popped into my head on the final lap and I confirmed that we were not going to make the transfer if I didn't pass through cars and only way in my mind that I could was to try what I tried and for some reason it worked. So it wasn't this elaborate pre planned premeditated

So check it out. I like my coops. Codes coming out of our ears. Because our eyes are protected by these amazing pieces of eyewear, which we like to do. I can toss my child up in the air as I'm grilling out steaks on my big green egg in the backyard. What? At the same time? Yeah, why not, man? What if you drop him? Well, he's fine, he'll bounce. But on the grill, no, no. Toss them next to the grill up. Just envision you. You're crazy. Another cool thing you can do with Shaq Iger, by the way, because they are designed for gamers. They're designed for them. Now it works for us. And what we do here on the show, but it's also designed with gamers in mind. "I felt like we saw a little bit of the old Roche testing, who gives no quarter to anybody on the track. But this was, this was Pete Ross Chastain. This was when Justin Mark said, you know, we've got somebody in this car who wants it more than anybody else out there. And we'll rethink what is possible. That's what this was. I mean, again, like Martinsville has been around for 70 plus years, and no driver, I think, has attempted a movie like this, and I think we heard it in those snippets we just play from all the other contenders. I think if Ryan Blaney knew this would work, I think a chase Briscoe knew that this would work, they might have tried it, but Ross Chastain was unconventional. To come up with it first, and not just think of it first, but have the bravery and the wherewithal just to go for it. So a couple of weeks ago, we were talking about the move Bubba Wallace made and suspension and how it was going to perhaps affect or tarnish a great year and change how people look at bubba as a race car driver. What Ross Chastain did right there was completely I said it earlier to somebody. He kind of like reinvented himself. He'd been like baptized by the race fan, right? It doesn't matter who he hit. It doesn't matter what's happened this year. No one cares. If you have a beef with Ross Chastain and you decide to do something now, shame on you, you had your chance and you missed it because you know he did something amazing. He did something that reinvented it and you know what he did? Something that it didn't have any sort of victim already? Nobody got spun out. Nobody was wrong. Nobody was hit. He was vintage Ross Chastain, and if anyone has an issue with this, like he erased the entire year. Any blemishes on his record? They're easy example of that name is that he was literally booed at drivers introductions. Very roundly. I mean, the crowd hated him. And was opposite after the race. He was roundly cheered. The crowd cheered. He's gotta be like the most popular. He's gonna be the hero. Maybe if Denny had done this, not only is the advanced championship for, but his home state starts cheering him again. But I only give Danny credit though. We had some different opinions on this. The guy that I thought could easily have been pulling into looking at this as a negative, the first guy eliminated said props. He said, you know what? It was a good move. Hugely complimentary. And I think also this is a good story about not just the driver, but the team. I mean, track house is about as Justin marks has said time and again, being the disruptors, we're going to do things differently. We're going to come in here and be an elite championship team. Well, here they are. They've made the championship round against Penske against Hendrick against Gibbs, and they've done it in a way that people are going to talk about for years. I mean, yes, it was Ross Chastain who made the move, but he's been empowered to make that move because he's driving for track house. No doubt about it. We'd love to hear what you guys think at 8 four four NASCAR NBC, the phone lines are pretty well jam, but we'll start with Carson in North Carolina, Carson, what's your thought on the Ross Chastain move? Well, I appreciate y'all having me on. I have a very yesterday. Sitting in turn four and I saw a red streak shoot across the track. I thought somebody had gotten their revenge on him, but no, I turned to watch the race for the lead and come to find out that poetic justice had taken place and he passed everyone and knocked him out of the playoffs. So I guess my question for you guys is I heard some of the reactions from drivers up to the race. I got to give Danny some props to what he said. He could have easily been negative about it, but he said, well, executed. My guy Larson had some kind of lame sour grapes remarks about it. So I'm curious if you guys think they'll make a rule to try to prevent this. So that's the question. And thank you for the call, bud. So I think everyone sort of initially liked it. They thought it was cool, but I was talking to our buddy James Hinchcliffe last night in 8, and he did not like it very much. Kyle Larson didn't like it very much. Joey Logano didn't like it very much. Should there be a rule name? I think that they're going to have to address it before Phoenix TV, not just because of what drivers are saying, but just because of the way it looks. To Kyle Larson's point and he might be the one guy who didn't like it from the outset. I mean, he said it was embarrassing and that he made this move at Darlington last year where he tried to ride the wall and he was saying like if that inspired Ross Chastain to do this, then I wish I hadn't have done it that he felt like it puts NASCAR in a bad light. I think Logano thought like, hey, it's cool that Ross did that. I can appreciate that. I can respect that, but we can't be doing this every week. And we can't have it deciding a championship race at Phoenix this Sunday. So first of all, I'm fine if Larson didn't like it, I'm fine. I didn't like it a fine of drivers liked it. You know, I am of the opinion that drivers should have an opinion and I'm okay that they all don't agree. I also find a last car doesn't listen to any of them because they're the sanctioned body and they're going to have to do something. Right. So I have an opinion that it needs to be changed or addressed, not as much from an optics standpoint, but purely from a safety standpoint. Walls aren't designed for this. There's a crossover gate off turn four at Martinsville. This could have become very, very dangerous for both Ross, another competitor, even a fan, perhaps. And I think that this worked this time because a tremendous amount of skill, and because no one was expecting it. Well, just flip it. Same move that's expected in someone does throw a block. You're going to have a north of 100 mile an hour wreck at a short track. So there are some safety concerns. And I think NASCAR has an obligation to the drivers. We ask these drivers to do very tremendous things. Door to door Talladega for two and a half, three hours is kind of enough. This move, while I want to remind everybody, I'm celebrating it. It was spectacular. I am fine with us hedging our bets and saying, how do we eliminate it? Now, I will say near term, it might be as simple as we're not going to allow this. We're going to kind of try to reduce this. I do think longer though, as I pointed out, there are some things on the car that could be adjusted. We're just not having advantageous. That's the goal. Just make it where there's no advantage. May wear the driver doesn't want to do that. That's the best part because I don't like track limits and I don't like inbounds out of bounds, type calls.

"Yeah, I got to get a beat too. Keep coming hang on. What in the hill? Oh my God, coming to the checkered flag. I can't believe what I just saw. I talked to my boys. You made the transfer. I can ridiculous dude. Holy cow. Oh my goodness. I mean, just insane. I mean, the one I heard was chase Briscoe's and I'm like, what did he just see? And I saw a little red streak and I'm like, it doesn't, I couldn't calculate what all had happened at the moment. It was just insane. Listen, it was the pass passes, corner. So it took me 30 seconds to a minute to think about it, you know, so I looked at the timing and scoring. It's a sub 19 second lap at Martinsville. To over two and a half seconds faster than the leader. So that's another way to put it in perspective, right? New tires are worth about a second. He went two and a half seconds faster. So it was definitely the move heard around the world. It was insane. You speaking of being heard around the world, I mean, I was shocked to see Fernando Alonso tweet about it Nate. Roman Grosjean tweeted about it today. I mean, really, this is captured the motor sports world. And that's really, that's what's been really surprising to me. Yeah, and Alonzo, I think, put it in the perspective and I think a lot of the world was talking about that. They've played video games. They've done this in video games. But this is the first time we've seen in real life. And Stevie, my question to you, I think, would be a marginal speedway has been around since 1947. So presumably this is the first time a move like this has ever happened like this. Explain why the physics worked where Ross Chastain could plant his car at a 130 miles an hour in the wall, ride it around the wall for a few hundred feet and go faster than the guys on the bottom. Is it the car? Like, what was different this time? So I really believe there's a lot of circumstances that made it work here this time. The first thing is, the car itself, we talked about the in car audio. Well, if you listen to ros Chastain, when he comes down the back straightaway, so at Martinsville to 5 speed transmission, but you race in third and fourth. Just to have the ratios work out, you don't ever use 5th. So at any other track, we've seen this attempt at, you're already kind of at max speed. So if you carry more speed into the corner, you're on the rev chip. Well, Roche Chastain had the ability to reach down and grab another gear, essentially high gear. That wasn't even going to be used. So that gave him extra 15, 20, 25, available miles an hour in an engine speed. And then the car itself, when you look at the car after the race, the right side tires aren't even flat. So when you look at an Xfinity car or a truck, the tire itself, the sidewall is kind of bulbous and it sticks out a few inches past the edge of the wheel. So when you hit the wall, it's like the old go kart break. Man, rub the wrong wheel, right? So it starts to slow down. Look at this car right here. This car just rode the wall at a 130 miles an hour, the air is in the tire. So now look right here. While the good new year is missing, look at the wheel. More importantly, look at the center of the wheel. We talk a lot about the single lug nut. I actually believe that because of the low profile tire, not the height, but the shape. It's flat, that when you get into the wall, which has been great at Miami, it's been great at Darlington. We've seen great races. Well, now at Martinsville, when you put it up against the wall, instead of having that break of those two right side tires scrubbing in and squeezing the car to a stop, it was like a smart car. It was madelon metal. I mean, if you go back and watch the replay, which we could watch a hundred times, there's some dust and debris, but there's no white tire smoke. You've seen all these spinning cars get in the wall and Miami forever, an old cup car is at white tire smoke, and that's how you know they hit it too hard. I think those are the two extenuating circumstances. The availability of a high gear higher than what's on the racetrack and the car not mechanically slowing down, not the rubber against the road, dragging it to a halt. And I think that's where there's going to be a lot of discussion moving forward. Yeah, Mike Wheeler did the math on that today. He used his engineering skills and did the math on it. And I think you came up with the same math about a 130 miles an hour. More than double the amount of everybody on the inside lane, which is just ridiculous to think about it. Yeah, and more importantly, about 5G's I'll admit. It looked accurate. I sent it to my college age, so I think he goes, yep, I agree. Sounds good, yeah. And that's really, I mean, there's a lot of conversation about it and nothing moving forward should take away from what Ross Chastain did. I think it's an important moment for me. I know some people didn't like the move. I will tell you as a crew chief that has rules in the rule book because of decisions I made. I felt like that was my ability to find an advantage that nobody else found. And I am not going to knock a driver who's done the same thing. My entire career was, hey, here are the rules. If it doesn't say I can't to do something, then I'm going to do it for an advantage. In my opinion, what Ross Chastain did was no different than what crew chiefs have been doing since the beginning of time. And what drivers have been doing? Maybe the not to this level, but that's why we have wave rounds, double rules, out of bounds of the road courses like this is not something new. Bravo, Ross Chastain may get a rule written about him. I don't know, but when he did it, it should be celebrated, it was impressive. And Nate, I think Ross Chastain has done a terrific job this year of saying, why not? Right. For years, and it's really worked for him to be honest with you. Yeah, I mean, that's been his mantra, Marty, and that's what he said after the race that when he hangs around with his buddies, it's, why not? And I think what's interesting is that kind of went away a little bit for the first couple rounds of the playoffs where he certainly seemed like he was racing with a little less reckless abandon than we've seen and then when the round of 8 started, you know, he finished second at homestead, finished second at Vegas.
Bell wins, Chastain rides the wall to earn title race spots
"Denny Hamlin dominated most of the day at Martinsville speedway but when he lost the lead Christopher Bell took over and in a must win situation to make the final round of the playoffs he took the checkered flag I mean it's just been a roller coaster of emotions for sure You know I think I've been praying for off weeks or off season for two out of the last four weeks and now I'm ready to race again But in a last ditch effort to make the final four Ross Chastain stole the show rim riding around the outside wall video game style to pass Denny Hamlin for the final playoff spot He joins Bill Joey Logano and chase Elliott in the finals next week in Phoenix I'm Jerry Jordan

"It definitely was DJ. I mean, what you saw on TV was exactly what it was like there. The vibe was incredible. Even on Friday, I looked up at the grandstands on Friday when we were doing this photo on the front stretch and for practice and I was like, this is bigger than most truck series race sprouts. So I was like, there's so many people here. But the whole weekend was packed. It was awesome to see the vibe was amazing. And when we looked up at those grandstands on Sunday, raised the race was happy and the flyover was incredible. I just got chills and you know the hair stand up on my arms, the back of my neck because it just was incredible to see that many people there to see an awesome race and the traffic going in was not bad at all. The traffic X scene was almost like it was so easy to get in and out of the racetrack. So I just got to give a huge kudos to that whole team at worldwide technology raceway for how they executed often we see with first time events, there's a bit of growing pains, but I feel like that team really knocked it out of the park and really thought through almost everything they could to have a seamless event of that magnitude and it was felt by. I feel like everyone there and there was so much positivity from throughout the garage and obviously just talking to all the fans and just seeing so many of them and how excited they were that we were there was so cool and I just think that's an awesome thing for the sport and we definitely saw that Nashville. I'm sure we'll see that again because Nashville is just one of the most fun cities there is and when you bring NASCAR there just gets better. But I just think yeah, this is really cool to see these sort of events pop up that you can tell there's enthusiasm for it. You had a lot different perspective than we did as we were on the couch watching. When you were in the car, kind of walk us through your thoughts on what happened with particularly Ross Chastain so when you've raced with a ton in your career, but kind of how did you see all of that shake out and what were your thoughts overall? So I didn't see the initial contacts, but I was a part of he and chase Elliott's squabble towards the back when they were getting into it. I was like, what is going on here? Because they were trying to they were getting into each other for.

"Openness. How does that hit you? Well, I'm cynical. So you know that. So but first I'm going to say this, he can say he owes all the drivers and apology. He does not owe his team or his owner an apology. Because he put in a 100% effort. He did everything that that man pays him to do. He did everything he's supposed to do. He went out there and stuck that car in places and tried to win a race. And that's what he's supposed to do. So you can apologize for that. Don't ever apologize for that. At the same time, I think that was, for me, I was watching it live and I'm thinking, brilliant. Ross Chastain is brilliant. He just disarmed the entire world. He got to the mic first because they came to him first. He got to the mic first. He got his side of the story out there first. It's on me, man. I'm sorry, man. I owe everybody an apology. I wrecked everybody. And I'm sure he meant it. And part of him in it. At the same time, you know, I'd like to think he went up in the truck and had a little sip of a watermelon cocktail and said, I got him now. I got him now. You know what I mean? 'cause he can't say you think they can come back. And you know, we saw in that footage. They just kept bait and Denny until Danny finally said something, because Denny said, right off the bat. You know, he made his statement, but they baited him and baited him invaded him until he gave them something that they wanted. But in the end, you know, Ross was aggressive. You know what I mean? But listen, restarts how many times do we hear these guys say? You got to get what you can on a restart. And the chase Elliott deal. You got to get what you can on that. With the other thing, he ran in the corner right here. He runs in the corner and gets into our earlier. He gets into the 11 and spins him out. And ruined in his day. But I think Denny ruin chase Elliott's day at Martinsville a few years back. And kept him out of the playoffs camping out of the playoffs. So when you look at it from that perspective, as a driver, you know it, we've been on both sides. And we run our mouth one way on one side. And we run our mouth the other way on the other side. So that's kind of the way I look at it. Yeah. We have been here talking before when things happened on the racetrack that we were trying to decide was it an accident, could have been avoided. Was that just a racing incident? You could make a case that both of those were racing incidents that the driver was just trying to get what he could get. I actually, whenever Denny got into the wall because Ross got into it. I actually wondered, did Danny get a little bit loose and slow down. It looked like Ross was trying to pass him. Did he just misjudge that? Did Denny have to slow down a little bit more and that's why he got into it. Don't think that happened after everything that's taken place. But you could have made that.

"All the way out almost in the turn one wall on the way up the hill. Fair, fair. But Ross doesn't care. Right. And then he knows he's leaving the race and he got moved out of the way. Right. So let me ask it this way. Have the rules of engagement changed in the win and you're in playoff era, Jeff. Yes. That it's okay to move someone or even wreck someone for a win now. Yes, but it was okay a long time ago too. I mean, my date and I were talking on his podcast earlier. And I remember going to Sonoma knowing that if we got a late race caution, we were going to have a restart and it was going to be ugly. And it I remember saying publicly, it's embarrassing to be a cup driver, acting the way we act as Sonoma. And that was in the early 2000s. Mid 2000s. So it's nothing new. Late race restarts at restrictive light races, and row courses, chaos instances. I mean, nothing to me has changed. I know that this was a topic of debate on social media last night, Denny Hamlin posited that, hey, in 2017, this wasn't okay. But now it's okay. To me, it feels like since the playoffs started, the rules of engagement have changed. And maybe they're a little bit different now because you have a younger generation of drivers that has a different skill set and a different way that they were trained to race through bandoleros or dirt racing that's different than maybe the way Denny Hamlin was trained or the way Jeff Burton was trained. That to me is what's different. It's the ethics and how they're applied and executed. It's not the fact that guys have always said, hey, I'm going to knock somebody out of the way if it means getting a win, and now if it means getting a playoff birth. I raced against guys like Wayne Patterson and very, very early, and people like that, people that weren't fortunate enough to, and they'd move you out of the way. And that was in the 80s. I mean, think about short track racing in the 80s. What was great about the late model sportsman series? That high contact, move you out of the way. It's not new. The only thing that's different is the reward is bigger. So when they say to you, if you win a race, you're in the playoffs, you have a chance to win the championship. That tests your values. That test your morals. And everybody on pit road that came with you. Is warning you to do it is wanting you to win that race. And if you do, they know you know they got your back. But the rest of the garage area doesn't want you to do it. And you have a bit of a wide berth for that first win, but I disagree with you. I think people now race him differently moving forward. What did he do wrong? I don't know that he did anything, but he there's no doubt. He's a lightning rod. This is to follow him around. I think they would raise him differently if it wasn't accepted that this is his modus operandi for how he raises people. And so I think that this is an accepted part of doing business when you race against Ross Chastain. I don't think it changes Jeff's point. Did anyone think that he wasn't going to try to take out a jail mirror for all the bigger not going to decide? I mean, that's what we talked about that. I knew they were going to wreck each other. I just didn't know how and where. Right. Right. So I don't think that there will be severe repercussions for it might have been different if it was Mark Martin and he did that. And everybody was like, oh my gosh, now we're going to change the way we think about how we're going to race more and more, but not ros Chastain. So I guess that's my point, is that what would, so if Mark Martin got moved out of the way, what does he do? Why wouldn't he move to someone else out of the way? Because he wouldn't have started the fight, right. I mean, but.

"Big teams in a way that track house has. It's not I struggle saying that it's not surprising. Because there's, you know, again, I'm humbled to be in this position. There's so much talent around us with these teams and drivers and everything. But I just think it's a belief in what's possible with this car and what's possible in bringing a new attitude to a company into a workforce. And you know, in a way, it's the car and the opportunity sort of delivering and what NASCAR's vision was around this. So, you know, if I didn't think that this was possible, I would not have embarked on this journey. But in a way, maybe I didn't think it would happen this quickly. But I know why it's happening. But I know why it's happening. Justin, you're described often as visionary out of the box thinker. And I'm struck by the fact that this year Ross Chastain has been talking a lot more about the mental side of his game and the mentality. We've heard him talking about using neutral thoughts to try to get not too high, not too low. And I'm wondering, it sounds a lot about what I often hear from you, kind of echoing what you talk about when you talk about the psyche of the race team of the driver. How have you been impressed by Ross maturation is development this year? And what sort of influence or impact have you had on that? That's a great question. I mean, I've known Ross for a long time. I've known Ross since really like the day he came up and got involved in this sport. And.

What a crazy weekend in the world of motor sports hi everyone, welcome to NASCAR America, motor mouse, Marty Snyder, the mayor Jeff Burton, the professor Nate Ryan, on a show where no one will get slapped today. I promise that no one you got that or not. I'm not promising that. From oh, okay, yeah, you're not promising that. After a crazy week in a race. Why you wouldn't? Yes, Nate can't go crazy on his can he. Track house racing the big win, Ross Chastain gets to victory lane first ever win for him and the Cup Series so much to talk about and unpack from this weekend. Of course, we want to hear from you guys as well. 8 four four NASCAR NBC first win for Chastain from track house, obviously coming up in three minutes, Justin marks will join us here. The owner of trackhouse racing, a little bit later in the show, our buddy Parker Kligerman will join us after a double duty day on Saturday. So before we get to Justin here in just moments, I want to get your guys thoughts on coda. Mayor will start with you. What was your take on how the race finished in the Cup Series side? What do you expect, man? Road course, late race caution. I don't know why anybody is surprised and there were some rubbing and bumping and reckoned. It seems to be what I've watched for over 30 years on road course race and when there's a light rays restart. So I think we got what we expected. We did. And I would say that even though it's not the most artful of NASCAR racing, when you have road courses and when you have Circuit of the Americas, which is its own unique beast and have them go 5 wide, going up the hill and the turn one every time. Like Jeff said, you're going to have mayhem chaos, but that's entertaining. And I think we're all entertained by the last lap of yesterday's race. I think there's a lot certainly to talk about from the end of that race, no doubt about it. And whether or not it was the right move or the wrong move, but we're going to talk to Justin marks right now who is the owner of track house racing. They finally get their first Cup Series win. Justin joins us right now here on NASCAR America motor mouse. Congratulations. I gotta walk us through that final lap. You're in the lead. You're not in the lead, Justin. And then you wind up winning the race. How are the nerves on that final lap? Well, I mean, you know, your heart's pounding for sure, but I mean, I've been around enough of these races and around this game long enough to know that green white checkers are quick, quick finishes like that at short tracks and road courses, it's all on the table, anything can happen. It's not over till it's over. So, you know, for us, like if you watched the last lap, the last couple of corners, you know, Ross drove away from those guys at the end and then he was real conservative getting into getting into that corner at the end of the straightaway and kind of invited AJ and Alex back to the party there and then sort of all bets were off and at that point it just sort of is, you know, who wants it the most and Ross had a very, really, really fast car and I think he just refused to lose that race and you know these things always get physical at the end as you guys know.

"Of it practice and they feel fast. When they're busting off a 9 80 for just four tires, they're not waiting on fuel in practice. That's fast. And it's hard to calibrate my mind to take off in time. Two tires as fast as well was just a single lug nut. So really the thing, not here at Auto Club because we need tires way before we need gas, but throughout the year with low fall off and where the tires don't degrade a lot and we kind of stay the same speed we'll be waiting on fuel and that will be that would be hard because the tires will be done and it would be another two or three seconds we'll be waiting on the fuel to fill it. And they've kind of restricted that, right? Yeah, I don't know they've restricted it the cell itself is a little bigger so we have a little higher capacity so it just takes longer to put more gallons in. What about the buzz around NASCAR? Everything going into the season. It's more about it's not all about the car. It's just something about this season, the fans are excited. Everybody's excited. I mean, you guys got to deliver now, right? Yeah, we do. You know, I do, you know, I've been in the sport now. This is my 11th year and from the trucks to Xfinity to cup and I've just tried to be a sponge and watch these guys and these other racers that have been here way before me and have seen a lot of change and listen to what their thoughts and opinions are and what they see this as. You know, and I don't feel like if I go out on track and make a splash, that's one thing, but off track I just try to watch and learn and listen from these guys that have been here before me and to my heroes that are now my competitors. So, you know, we're all in, especially track house is all in on getting new people here. You see with the sponsors we have on, we're partnering with some big name people outside of NASCAR. It's not just we're looking for a company to put their name on it. We're looking to truly partner with somebody and bring in their fan base. So you see Dana White with a UFC and his howler hit brand at the clash and then even Longoria's brand with this tequila. You know, it's just it's more than just the product you see on the car. It's truly about the people that we're partnering with and what Justin marks and track house and Pitbull, they want to bring in people like minded that want to promote their brand and their industry. So we're diversifying in more ways than just race. And we're the first fying in our partnerships. All right. All right, his name Ross Chastain. Thanks so much for the time. And good luck out there. "It's so good too. I thought you didn't compete. I texted you, I go, do you not fill out a lineup this week? You're like, no, I did. It was just a bad week. Very bad. I couldn't find you. Yeah, it was because of Martin. Thanks a lot. He was our guest last week. What are you doing to me? Yeah. And then of course Kyle Larson, I mean, it's a bad day when he goes to pit road with engine issues with 73 laps to go as well. So a broken valve spring for the 5 car ended his day early. Eric Jones, again, had another good run going, but got loose late in the race, hit the wall, the outside wall, he hit it pretty hard and his day was done. And of course, this is weird. We've been seeing a lot of this lately for chase Elliott in the closing laps this race. Spins out and didn't hit anything, but spun out and he was messed up at the end of his race too. By himself, too, I think. Yeah, just off the off turn too there, just lost control. Yeah. All right, up next, we've got the watermelon man. Ross Chastain, we go one on one on TfL W boom. Like us at Facebook dot com slash the final lap. This is the final lap weekly. On the final app with us once again, is Ross Chastain. Now welcome back to the show. Ant man, thanks for having me. Good to have you back. Well, thank you. It's good to be back. It's very weird. You know, talking to people without masks and having a good time here in the garage area. Yeah, it is. NASCAR was one of, it wasn't the first sport back after the pandemic, but we lived through a lot of mask wearing all through the garage throughout 2020 and 21 and we've gotten the spot everybody feels pretty comfortable and we're confident we can be safe doing this and you know we're here racing and we're giving people a break I think and with sports right of a break from real life. Yeah. And you're kind of at a new situation but not, but you know what's that like? Yeah,.

I don't really know what to expect. You know we ran strong their last fall. But i think it's going to be totally different. "chastain" Discussed on The Final Lap
"The final lap once again. <hes> is ross chastain. Welcome back to the program all heart. You're coming off a pretty successful weekend by most standards. You picked up a second place and a third place. That's gotta make you feel pretty good. Oh yeah definitely does. It's a little hard in the moment getting out of the car to as a racer truly appreciate how good of a weekend. It really was but had few days to stand back and look at it. Yeah it was <hes>. It was a good <hes>. Awesome weekend and we had really fast car both days and made good adjustments. You know had the most fraternity up upfront <hes>. Isn't their first trip into nascar so <hes>. Now that i've had a day or two it's it's sunk in how good it really was is. That is that really for a racer. How long it takes. You can't get over it for a couple of days or so. I think everybody's different you know honestly <hes>. In in every situation is different so <hes>. I the biggest thing was just the speed. We had not not about the finishing position. It was the fact that we actually ran up there all day and both days. You know we. We backed it up. The right adjustments and every rates. There's different in every situation is different but for me. It took a day as fans and media and everybody watching. We all wanna see you win for the sole reason. We want to see that watermelon. Go splat that's right. I trust me i i. There's nothing more. I want right now mashed watermelons for sure. Your season is still looking pretty good. I looked up nine top fives and eighteen top tens <hes>. Your position pretty well heading into the playoffs. Yeah yeah we are <hes>. You know that that win you know will will really make our year. You know strong of the season not winning. You know the by the end of the year is <hes>. I'll i'll definitely view it as a failure on the performance side. It's not that you know it's a failure from the team side the personnel and and even my personal relationship guys. We've got a great group and and this is a you know year that i'll always remember. I say that every year to myself. Because i feel like i'm so much farther in my career than i ever thought i could could ever be cherry on top right. It's crazy. i just never ever imagined that. I could stay in the sport this long so <hes>. You know this is another another year. You know no different than last year. Only made her on the truck championship. This year <hes>. We we get down the stretch here and serenity run and and go for the championship it <hes>. It'll be a year. I'll i'll never forget for a lot of good reasons but but a win. You know not happening will definitely be a big big down downfall of this year so we are working just as hard as we can hardly worked all year to try to get victory lane.
