"Didn't and he might get replaced. I have a couple of final notes. Let's recap a couple other moves that have happened around the NFL. The Carolina Panthers signed safety Xavier Woods from the Minnesota Vikings. He's 26 years old. His new contract and Carolina is a three year deal worth $15.75 million. Former Texan safety Justin Reed is signing a three year $31.5 million contract in Kansas City. $20 million guaranteed, he's a stud, Justin Reed is only 25 years old, good for Kansas City. Corner to various ward is leaving Kansas City. He's signing a three year $42 million deal with the forty-niners. He's a young coroner. He's 25 years old. Great for him. He's making $26.7 million fully guaranteed. Charvarius ward. Awesome for him. Congratulations on the payday. Another piece of interesting news is that Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins signed a one year $35 million contract extension that's $35 million fully guaranteed. A lot of people are upset that Kirk Cousins has made a ton of money during his NFL career despite being a fairly middle of the road quarterback. I believe his record is 59, 59 and two. As a starting quarterback. I don't know, man. He's been a starting quarterback for a long time. And the reality of being a quarterback in the NFL is you get paid really well. Backup quarterback, what's his name? Chase Daniel, his played basically no snaps in the NFL. He's made over $40 million as being a backup NFL. If you play quarterback in NFL, you make good money. If you do it for a long time, and Kirk's done it for a while. Plus Washington for a while refused to commit to him, so he played on the franchise tag making even more money than it was probably worth. So look, I don't know, Kirk's new contract, it helped Minnesota move money around. He saved the Vikings $14 million in cap space by signing this contract. Remember, he's also made a lot of money fully guaranteed. He revolutionized who said, instead of taking remember he signed like a three year 80 something $1 million contract. Instead of asking for a ton of years and a big number up front, he said, I'll take a little less money, fully guaranteed. He kind of revolutionized that fully guaranteed contract..

"See Andre Roberts got some nice runs in. I also liked all the tight ends what especially Paul hamps. Also, nice to see Palmer got some more targets. What do you think we should do with guyton Kelly? Hey, guy made a good catch. This last time. I think they're down catch. Yeah. I mean, nothing. He's not going anywhere. He still has opportunities still fast. He's a fat. He's our top off. I do think this potential for Palmer to take his job by the end of the year. Oh, sure, yeah. Yeah. I think as he continues to get more and more experience, gets better because he's on the field pretty consistently now. And guy, yeah, I mean like kids a couple plays here and there, but there's nothing like outrageously special about anything that guyton does. So I don't know he just gets lost most of the game. They'll hear and there. But I don't know. We'll see. As long as he doesn't drop any more balls, that's all I'm looking for right now for the season for a guy. If he can show up his hands, that's all we really need from him. So bolt gang, thank you for asking the question. Let's move it on now to the Chargers nerd. AKA Daniel, who asked the question shout out to Justin Jones Josiah Michael scofield and storm Norton. None of them were replaced at the deadline, all of them played better this week. Sure. They played better because they were like, I made it. Okay. Step at the top. Okay, let's do this. Of course the Gatorade will. But it's a protein. Quick. Okay, can I do make your point now yes? I was letting it go. I tried to start a point like 12 times, so fair enough. That was fun. Thanks, guys. I do think that there is something to the fact that they feel some kind of they have somebody behind them. You know, like we trust you. We're not gonna replace you, go play, do your thing. And Justin Jones had an okay, whatever game, but you are offensive lines, go field and storm over there on the right side. They did a pretty damn good job. Right. Like you said, you don't give up a sack. That's a win for an office of line. Yeah. How does it feel, car? 'cause we didn't get rid of you at the podcast trade deadline. You're still with us. We got your back. We really pulling for you. I feel like your performance is increased this week. If you tried to get rid of me, you'd be in a full rebuild, my friend. That's a full. That's a tear it down and rebuild it type of thing, yeah. Who are we taking for? We better get a lot of picks. A lot of picks. You're gonna need it. There you go. Chargers nerd, Daniel, thank you for asking the question or making the observation. Let's move it on now to Carl bowling toft. Karl. Carl, who asked the question how good is Herbert? I mean, pretty good, right. How good can he get? I can't even imagine. Baby. Yeah, I mean, that's what the ceiling is for Herbert right now. I don't know, we're gonna have ten years to see, right? Hopefully. Hopefully. Yeah. You're gonna have it's the NFL. You're gonna have a couple down games, but then you're gonna have what he just did. Like, that's what he's capable of doing. That's fantastic. And he's still breaking a different record every week that he has a decent game. You know what I mean? It's crazy. Yeah. And he'll break a record. And that's a decent game for him 360 yards is a decent game. That was a really good game, yeah. For two touchdowns and ran for one? Ran for one, yeah. Yeah. And honestly, that run, whoever that cornerback was going at his knees, I almost almost looked at my Twitter and said some hateful things to him. Because don't you go tackling people with their knees, you dickhead. Well he doesn't want to get laid out. They watch film? They don't drive. You don't want to be that guy that gets laid out. Lights out. He gets up with the dance. Sign him up. Carl Boeing tough. Thank you for asking the question. We move on now to max. Certified phrase. Who asks the question? I was pretty good. I did that. That was smooth. You said that without any hesitation. Yeah, that's pretty smooth. Thanks, guys. Great game boys. But I am fair Parker after that one. But here's the man. Here's the man now dog. Love the way the tight ends were so involved in the game against the eagles. My question was the emergence of Steven Anderson as much as improved blocker and seeing how often he lines up in the full rack position do you see the charge as possibly making a move to release gave neighbors? I mean, Gabe was an active for Sunday's game and Anderson gives the charges much more options when he's in the game. Also, how much influence do you think neighbors close relationship with Herbert will have on any decision that has made? Can't wait to be a SoFi on Sunday to watch the bolts. Vanquish the Vikings with her ugly puke, purple, uniforms. And one more thing. The Raiders. And. The chiefs. That is the worst Sean Connery. Everybody was drunk. So Sean Connery, good. Yeah, he doesn't sound like well, because he's drunk. I don't sound like me. No. When Kyle's drunk sounds like a night, and you want to go to Vegas? Yeah. Yeah, that happened. In real life. But yeah, so there's two parts. It's do we release game neighbors and how much does his relationship with Justin affect him being released? Right. I don't think that's the summation of that long ass. Sean Connery rant. I don't think their relationship keeps him from getting dropped by any means that the NFL, it's a business. They don't care if Justin's friend gets cut. But relationships, our way, big hugs. That's what this team is all up. You're still gonna get cut if you're not good. I'm gonna go can I disagree just a Pence with her? Just seeing seeing that that one, what was the segment that they did the dine in with those two? With Chase Daniel and Herbert and neighbors. Yeah. He's not a glaring, he's not a liability on this team. He does service purpose. He's a special teams guy, and he is a good fullback. David Anderson think he's going to get cut. I'm just saying I don't think that's going to play a part. I think that I don't know. I don't know, I don't know what's happening at lunchtime at snack time. I don't know who's sitting with who and hanging out with you. But if Gabe neighbors makes Justin Herbert's smile just once during the day. He stayed on this team. It is worth it. You keep that man happy and you keep him all the roster. Don't have to activate him. You keep his ass.

"I think hangman page in in adam cole are different are different personalities. I would feel worse for. I feel bad for him page. I don't feel worse implies. I feel bad for him. I would feel bad for him. And i don't right now Because he has more people to work with who now can help him become a bigger star such a key to l. to being elevated as having the right opponents asked triple h. I mean there were key opponents. Who helped elevate him. everybody's The rock would would you know gosh about. Opponents had to help. Elevate him. So i hang on. Page now has a chance to be a transformative. That's for a a a legacy star who represents a top being top top guy for his generation. There's a better chance it's going to happen if he's not fighting jon. Moxley cody miro and kenny omega in chris jericho over and over again like having this depth chart which is deepened. With you know andrade melkite black and the three main people. We're talking about today. He has a much better chance to become a star because he's going to be in there with stars who have headline wrestlemanias who have been champions. It's cole says everywhere he's been and so that's all good and then adam cole doesn't duplicate him he's actually a megastar who is. I think slightly shorter than hangman page. I stood next to both of them and neither them are physically imposing. If you're you know. Vince mcmahon. But that doesn't matter when you're when you're standing in the rain are looking up at you or from the rafters looking down at you. They both have a different kind of star power. But there are a good fit and my concern with adam cole in. Wwe is as he'll what face is he wrestling is. It drew mcintyre the size matchup. Optically isn't perfect. I didn't see those perfect opponents for coal as he'll and he's better as he'll then a baby face as you'll be a good face in aws but he's not a good baby face in wwe if that makes sense so he's in a good spot but hangman. Page has the every man. Aw shucks going for him for his charisma and coal is the arrogant alpha. I'm gonna own this room and just exudes confidence and bravado and heymann has different charisma. And i think it's a good face. He'll matchup and i don't think there's much doubt. We're going to be seeing w world heavyweight title match in the next three years between hangman. Page and adam cole. I don't think that's a particularly bold prediction so this is good news for hangman. And i think also code. Even though i think it's good cody hasn't been around lately Happenstance he's going to walk back in with just in embarrassment richest for fresh opponents to. Yeah and cody is going to be the type of face because remember what for. He left one of the things he said in his media interviews before he got destroyed by a malachi black. Was these not gonna change himself. He's just gonna be himself and let the fans react. How they may going up against an atom is one of the easiest ways to make sure you remain the face because cole will work his darnedest to make you the face if he's the he'll in the situation he's not gonna do the cool things that undercut you. He's not gonna you know even with the boom or the adam. Kobe other than that. He is just dirt worst. You saw what happened with his. You know i. I love the fact that his animosity towards tony's giovanni because tony was hanging out with it's a it's a very eighties me head like don't talk to my girl. Punk you'd nerd kid one chronic absolutely like after the dance like she doesn't know but he's chasing daniel down and they're trying to jump on monday miss me i guess to save them and all that like yeah that's him and it's great for those who haven't seen it. I'd i- employees to get a chance to be have a access to have spots network. They have a lot of the old. Pwg shows take a look at mount rushmore. When he was in it and the things they would say in do and it was just more this. And i think he's refined it in an exte- and found his voice to away. He maybe didn't have it before he got there. And that is more the pity because they invested all this time and money to develop someone for their opposition. What by the way. What did you notice. Different about adam cole. Last night on dynamite and in anything we saw sunday night compared to what he was doing or allowed to do or just made sense in the context of an x t. it did. Did you notice anything different about him or did he just bring himself over. I thought he brought himself over and maybe he had a little bit more confidence because he knew there wasn't gonna be a cap or dilemma on. What his chances were you know. One thing we we we have yet to talk about at length about. Aws while there are gonna be people that gripe and have complaints there have been folks that have been fired and their time in eight and existence as a company. We don't have the jockeying or the feeling from a lot of people were griping from a lot of people that their lot in life is where they are on the card and so for a coal. The sky's the limit if he knows especially that he isn't going to be told i'm going to be the heater for someone else later or i kind of watch what you're doing because if you if you shine too much the boss will You've got over from another territory and that's not going to be good for you. We've never had any of those discussions. I mean when danielson shows up first thing they show on their cry on is for former four time world champion. And you know again. You're using the credibility of the president. I think would coal. He's is credibility has been not only used but they they leaned right into you know. I know it's not necessarily as its colors is not a big thing. I joked about a turnaround table. But hint get it being able to keep the black and gold and uses undisputed era adjacent. Markings is a boon for him. It's proof again. It's it's this constant reinforcement. I was doing things right. I just couldn't get two plus two equal for as long as i was working in. That company is mike mcmahon from the all elite after show every week andrew so check and breakdown w on our free. Vw torch podcast. We've been doing this.

"Com. If Brian Hoyer is the backup, you could bring back, you know, even Jake Delgado, Brian murky, write them on the practice squad, but you know, I look at a guy like Garrett Gilbert, who has been around the league has been a capable career. He didn't even mention will grier. Well, so I was going to say there's two different ways you can go. You can find another veteran in addition to Hoyer who's going to be another pseudo coach for Mac Jones. And that could be a guy like Garrett Gilbert that could be a guy like Josh Johnson. There might be a guy like Kyle Lola, who we know they liked in the draft a few years ago. The other direction they could go is if Jared Stidham and maybe this is just until Jared Stidham comes back to. You could sign Garret Gilbert or Brian lurk or whoever and then he did him ready to go. You cut that guy you bring back to him. But the other thing is, I don't know that Brian Hoyer is going to be the backup beyond this year. It really seems like Stidham's a lost cause at this point if we're being honest. So the Patriots quarterback search continues, even beyond Mac Jones. And now there's starter, but they're going to need a backup here. So maybe you go out, you find one of these younger guys that got cut and you see if that guy can become your backup. Like your long-term three to four year backup. And if that's the case, will Greer, who I really liked in the draft in 2019. Third round dick was cut by Carolina today. I don't maybe he can be a starting NFL quarterback. I don't know that that's relevant in terms of the Patriots. I do think he struggled with coaching changes and system changes. Well, well, with the Panthers, but I think he can be a serviceable backup. I think he could be at the very least a chase Daniel type..

"Was. So i guess what we're looking at like all these other teams with injuries like j. dobbins from baltimore none of our like knock on wood Nothing serious has happened to us. So far we've lost coal maza. But that's we're okay. We're okay yeah. I'm so happy with the direction that he chose to take this. Preseason and guess what. This is very very optimistic. Take on this. Washington doesn't have anything to look at a whole bunch of vanilla very basic non offense now to look at. I'm sure we didn't give out anything we were doing. We're just evaluating our offense of line and our secondary essentially And i'm actually. I think we're going to come out and we're going to have this last preseason game in our minds like oh man look this works out. They're gonna come out and be like bam bam bam bam bam thank you mam all right well anything else that stood out to you guys. I mean it really was just kind of a revisit on hiring staley right seeing him in his full nerd get up Yeah which was awesome And jesse in some of the guys practicing. I'm just excited to like see more of this. 'cause we're gonna get this every two weeks and that was just a great get. You caught up where we're at. Yuck it's like the set the tone so it's like it's like a three acts of a movie like you gotta set up the characters that's right then you have empire strikes back in the the middle one and then you can get better and better better every couple of weeks. I'm just excited for for what. This documentary is going to show us fans and we're gonna have a lot more insight on our guys than some of these other teams. Well that's for damn sure absolutely all right folks will speaking of insight Looking over at our sponsor this week manscaping has a fourth generation tremor also featuring a cutting edge ceramic blade to produce grooming accidents. I guess let's just let's not look back at the preseason. 'bout the seahawks game on its. Let's look back at. What do you wanna talk about in that game. More trae pipkins sucking Hitting if trae pipkins make a roster i do. I'm scared because like sharing that financial thing. Where if they'd cut me lose money doesn't matter don't cut him and he plays justin. Herbert is exactly. We still have a big chunk of change that we still haven't spent on anybody. I will take that that. Let's take that gap third round draft. Pick batty yeah by Okay but let's look at the pre seasons as a whole Starting with quarterbacks Chase daniel win thirty eight fifty seven for two hundred thirty four yards. Interception should be two hundred thirty four yards and three throw touchdown tune. No no wow okay Stick finish the preseason twenty seven of thirty eight for two hundred twenty four yards and a touchdown I don't even know where this is going to go. I feel like they're gonna keep to but then in and that was another thing. This press conference is the first time we heard staley like kind of somber like he wasn't his outgoing with todd. Out like a lot of deep breaths and a lot of like the do which i appreciate because that's how we all felt as fans and he's wearing it on a sleep a little bit. We're not like yeah. It was farm. Figured it out was like he was legitimately pissed off. You could tell us pissed off I didn't even know that he was. I don't think he was pissed off. He seemed like our. He seemed like crestfallen. Like just like the at me. Just like what you say. He was just in that. Like i don't know what to say like i ask. Was that bad. That i can't. I can't bring any kind of energy to this to this conference. Which i appreciate doing. We all had. Yeah tommy. tee was on the broadcast in. They interviewed him during the game. And he did say that. It's most likely gonna be three. Qb's so as far as the chase. Daniel eastern stick thing he kinda alluded to. All three of. Those guys are going to be on the team. Which i don't think is a bad thing. I know some people have some strong opinions about you. Gotta have to still so either. You're going to be shopping. The the waivers. If if some guy does get hurt or you keep the guy that you guys that you really really like. You're not going to suit up all three. They're just getting on that roster. So yeah you can. You can trust to any of those guys landing on the practice squad. I don't. i don't think that would happen to those backups. No and for for the record folks. We record these episodes on monday night We were going to try to get this episode as quickly as possible but there might be some cuts already out by the time we get this episode posted so We will bear with us. We will go over. All of this is these are thoughts. Pre big cuts pretty big so. The cuts minority happened. You're like okay well. That was a dumb tight. We didn't we're wrong Is the time. I don't see anything wrong. With quarterbacks i mean especially because they're still in this cova business like i don't want to end up like the denver broncos where we have a running back playing quarterback in any registration so like just take whoever is the third string put him in a hermetically sealed box and don't let them out until it's time to play the balls roll around. I want him. I want him in the plastic bubble. Please and thank you It was interesting which he's daniel because they asked him about it about the looming cuts and they. He said that they got some tough decisions to make in the next couple of days. We're ready for anything three to whoever it is. We both put our best foot forward and whatever comes of it comes of it so i think that he got. He got dinged up in that that sea hawk like he wasn't like dying to go back out there. It didn't seem like the kind of guy that was worried about. Not making the pipkins was out there. I wouldn't want to go out there. Well he wasn't he wasn't like hey i to get out there like i don't know if i'm gonna make this team you know. He was like being confident. Gets a little bit of spend the league long enough. I don't know that he feels like he has anything to prove. But i for a job though. If used comp- i think i get with kyle put down. Yeah picking up. What he's putting down like there wasn't like there was already a conversation beforehand like. We're all this mortar back situation. So i think that's a good point call out And then looking at the running backs. larry rowntree led the chargers. This preseason with one hundred twenty two yards on twenty two carries for those doing the math four point six yards per carry. He's our best best. Preseason running back down and now that was with limited carries like he wasn't getting blind sheriff stuff you know what i mean he was. He was sharing with bradwell. He was sharing with justin jackson in the very beginning. You're running behind guys bumpkins. Exactly betray pumpkins. now it's pretty rowntree in just as a fan watching. I don't see practice. I don't know everything going on inside. But in my opinion it's echo around her in the depths right now like that guy was dynamic explosive. He runs really hard. He's a lot is he's got a little bit of a change of pace from And something a little bit more there than kelly offers. Yeah and who knows where justin jackson. I don't know he's still hurt. A guy that i like to watch roundtree run a little more than jackson. Just kinda my preference down. He was he like you said limited carries. i mean twenty two carries. That's like sutton seven three games in a game and still putting up some almost number deaf all day. All day Most productive wide receiver josh palmer. Ten catches for sixty five yards. Did you see that bobble catch that. He got got broken up. Bobble that caught it and i was series after. He's like bad. Drop of the preseason for quick which is good he has that mentality make an i got juggle alerted. Trump..

"Of it earlier. This morning i seen. I know you ignore my emails like no. I want to read this one. does it it. It's a good profile. And it's hard not to fall in love with this particularly if you read this story. Is it okay. I haven't now on ryan fitzpatrick or saying yes. Yeah yeah here. It is at nine teams. Hundreds of teammates. Lifetime of stories ryan. Fitzpatrick is a next level leader. I will definitely. He's about beloved player to play the nfl in the past ten or twelve years everywhere he spent. I know we've heard that before but Actually here like players like brandon quoted About how important he was to them. I mean you know he. it's an interesting story We find out what a great leader he is. But we don't really find out much about who he is you know. He does a very good job of disguising who he is personally ryan fitzpatrick and criticizing them for that I mean that's a good thing if you can manage to to have some level of stardom in this league and he has some level not a lot and and keep your mouth shut enough so people don't really know you know who you really can accomplish it. This is a man after your own heart. This is you this. Is you just trying to stay under the radar. You know lung. Lone ranger tommy. Tommy we is the ultimate lone ranger. He doesn't want to seize. Bosses doesn't want to talk to his bosses. He just wants to be left alone do his job you know. Certainly he wants people to compliment him. On what a great job he's doing. Those are the conversations he loves but he does not like to be told what to do and he likes to just sort of float on. Yeah i'm out here. You know wherever. I am right mccollum doing my job you. You're that's this is a guy after your own heart. Sounds like like like like his teammates. My teammates love me. Well not everybody. But that's another story for another day. I'm actually reminded of something And i'll tell you Try to explain it here as quickly as i can. You know the likeability of somebody And somebody who's not only likable but responsible and accountable and smart and helpful. Despite may be their talent or even their contribution overall you know in team sports on the field as an example Can be rewarded chase. Daniel has had a career in the nfl. that's lasted like eleven years and probably five or six teams. And i think he's made literally over fifty million dollars and he's played in hardly any games. I think he is started like five. Total games over the course of his career. Andrew brandt who was the longtime front office executive in green bay. Who has been on the podcast. He's been on the radio show he tweets. Lottie does a lot of work for villanova. He writes a lot about the business of sports in a. He's got a podcast in. He put something together recently. Called the sports business may have been the nfl business hall of fame and he tried to identify players who have just absolutely done incredibly well in terms of making a living With great contracts but not necessarily great contributions on the field. And when i had him on the radio show and he was explaining this. It may have been the podcast. I said well you've got to have chase daniel in that he said yet chases number two and on my hall of fame list chase daniels like the perfect example of a guy and i'm not comparing him to ryan fitzpatrick is ryan fitzpatrick's played in a lot more games over the course of his career and started in a lot more but chase. Daniel is like the perfect example of somebody who is so likable. Probably very smart very accountable. Very responsible you can rely on him for every single thing that you done in. Even though he's not great at you know football on the field necessarily you know just like a guy may not be the biggest revenue generator or the best operator or the best administrator. But there's somebody there who's just so good to be around so likable. The around and so reliable Those people always are accepted. There always rewarded not an every aspect of life. I'm not suggesting that but And i'm not suggesting that ryan fitzpatrick and chase daniel or that similar again but Anyway chased chase. Daniel i think is made. I'd have to look this up but it's a lot of money for very little production in terms of dollars made for plays played. He's gotta have one of the best rates of pay of all time anyway. I don't know how we got on this subject. How did we get on this subject. Oh the ryan fitzpatrick story that you want me to read. It'd be great story. Don't you think alex smith was a alex. Smith sort of fits that description to everybody. That's ever talked about alex. Smith loved being around alex smith. I know that. But alex smith has the image of being a button down guy right. Yeah i think. Ryan fitzpatrick has the image of being a swashbuckler. Kinda guy right again. The styles of player opposite to yes. Yeah so i a few becoming. Tv animal inspite away. I know i know with espn He had auditioned with fox and cbs. to be a game day analysts but he's going to be a part of the monday night football countdown. group You know i think i think griffin potentially could be more entertaining than alex smith Ryan fitzpatrick may be the future number one channel stunning network. He might be that kinda guy but then again you say that. This article says he super buttoned up in terms of getting really In there and and people really knowing a lot about him yet. They love him One of the all-time journeyman right after to say so. I mean you know it's already a guy who travels around plying graph and that's ryan fitzpatrick and you to more after these words from a few of her sponsors. He'll right and just focus on the stuff that he knows. Because kim does not game saw like has a great decent. Our game But this has the potential to just make match. Owns a career backup. You know the next chase daniel in for you all know i think can get cam. Stopgap man this guy one year then he's gone is going to be mad general's job percent or thirty three years old i it's obviously mac jones's job is it better because smack jones's job no. "Three o'clock today, Marcie Romero University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center will talk about nurses and rock stars and patients. Are patients actually important in hospital. God, I hope so. All right, joining us now Elizabeth Jacobson. She is a poet laureate, and Gerry Uelmen, who is essentially half of actual contemporaries. He's half the axle. He's one wheel. Are our two wheels. He's the back wheels of actual contemporary and their old bread truck. We'll start with the smarter of the two. Elizabeth Jacobson, poet laureate, Elizabeth Welcome to the show. Oh, thank you so much. Richard. It's great to join you again. But I think Jerry's way. Uh, more brilliant than me. Okay, well, we'll see Jerry. It's a lot to live up to Melting and humility and embarrassment here, But yeah, All right. But you know what? Let's let's start with you about this project. Now it was. I mean, I got the You know, I got the project I was. You know, your partner in crime it Axl Matthew chased Daniel I think we talk about this on the air and I go scores you guys can come on whenever you want. Was it? You and Matthew was that Axl to started this project? No, actually, it was Elizabeth who received the what this incredible poet laureate, and she also got a green light, which she should tell you more about than us. She invited us to collaborate with her. Gotcha. And so I was just well that Yeah, Great. All right, Take it away. Elizabeth in here. And, Yeah, I just tell you the process and then Jerry can explain what's going on now with the two grades, exhibitions and then more to come. So the Academy of American Poets, which is a huge national organization for poets, Um, offers the fellowship for poets laureate around the country, and it's an application and you apply with the project. So it's $50,000 fellowship, and I contacted Matthew and Jerry and ask them if they'd be interested in working on a project with me, So we worked out some of the details for the application together. I submitted the application I received word April year ago that I received the fellowship. Oh, In fact, you do our project which was all designed prior to Cove. It, um, you know, with in light of covert and s, O. Matthew and Jerry and I got together and we we organized and We move forward. I will explain Briefly. What the project Itwas So what it is, it is was Project for high school. Students and I taught poetry workshops to the students. Ah, syriza poetry workshops. They wrote poems. We studied in the workshops, love poems and owed various poems, contemporary poems that I selected. For them to read prior to meeting with me, Then we talked about them. They did some generative exercises they wrote home. They worked on them with their teachers. The teachers were fabulous. Anyway, they produced these poems and then from the poems they extra Parts of the poem to print on T shirts. That's where David Sloan and youth work comes in. And by the way you quirks received a $10,000 in kind, matching grants from the Academy of American poets for their work on the project as well. Of the original plan was that I would go into the schools and teach the workshops and the students would go into the screen Printing studio Youthworks Mean with David Sloan and learn the whole process of screen printing, as well as meeting with Matthew and Jerry of Axel to learn the difference. Design techniques for the T shirts and so on, so none that was able to happen, Everybody. Everything had to be done online, and David Sloan graciously did all the printing in the studio himself. We have. What? What ended up. We have poems. We have amazing T shirts with designs and poems printed on the T shirts. We have a beautiful broadside collection that was printed with with the T shirt designs on really nice paper, and we have an anthology G that we publish actual published. That collects all the artwork and all the poems from the projects. No, I think I said that in one breath. Wow, Jerry didn't miss anything. Wow. Yeah, a little in Europe and watch you go. So, Jerry, before we get into this, David slow not available, Hey, was going to join us, But apparently he was a big part of this as well. Maybe we'll get he and in Matthew on later to talk about this project as well, Right. So before you go on, Jerry, where is where is all this work? Well, um, we wanted to have one place where it would be for the you know, to cover at least part of the national poetry month of April, and it's still up. It's at the rail yard Performance center right outside the dance studio. And it's Oh, gosh, I'm trying to remember It's like 40 ft. Long and, like six ft High, I'm everything. Everything that lives with just described the broad size the T shirts and you know the poetry and all that. Well, the poetry and all the image that the kids came up with. Okay. And so you can see it all there, um and what you're going to farmers market this weekend. Jacqueline. It's Saturday. Just cross The rebel road tracks and they're going to read the poems. Look at the imagery. It's pretty awesome. Those very same imagery that you're looking at. There was printed on the T shirts by David Gotcha. Um, you know, Unfortunately, this was going to be more, um Larger project in that the kids. Wrote the poetry after working with Elizabeth. And then we create, they would be able to go to Santa Fe, Youthworks. And learn how to actually do soak screening. Um, so that was part of what we had hoped to do, but covert kind of messed with that a little bit. David, as was said very graciously printed these on the T shirts and the kids each got a T shirt with their image on it the image that they designed to go with the poem. Um, so that's where the T shirts now are being warned by all the participants in in the In this project. They're not available there. You know the kid's got him? Yes. And then, uh, With all those images on, uh, all the poems and we wanted in the T shirts who wanted to have the kids. Take Photo portrait of themselves wearing the T shirts but once again covert kind of You know?.

"It's the National Football League. Once you get up there, you want to be able to have sustained success. Look at the Seattle Seahawks. They should be a perennial Super Bowl team. They're good team, but it just shows you that at the NFL. Once you get there, you're not guaranteed to get back there again. 3123323776 Bob is over in the Edgewater area. Hey, Bob, What's up, Sparky? Hey, Good morning, guys. Great show. Thank you. Hey, thank you. Uh, listen, I just wanted to say, uh, with the quarterback situation, and Lance, I mean, giving up a first round draft choice. It is ridiculous. What? What you find out again in the Super Bowl is it begins in the trenches? Um I have a feeling they get when they don't address the line issue. It's gonna be like a dynamic ASU when he just completely labeled my home the other night in the fourth quarter. That's what it's gonna be like that. All right. We appreciate the phone call, my friend think, And I think we're in agreement that the offensive line has got to be right there with quarterback. But both. I mean, I don't care who you put a quarterback. You dropped. Shawn Watson. If you can't protect him, and you get we saw what happened, Patrick the homes with a bad offensive line. You have got to fix your online at the tackle spots. Back to the phone lines. We go, Let's go to Joe up and Gray's lake. Hey, Joe, What's up, buddy? How you guys doing today? Hey, buddy, how are ya? Pretty good, Pretty good. Given a call. You know what? It's always been monster of the midway for the Bears. I've always been a big defensive guy loved when we got Mac. I loved how we built our defense. But The game is changing. We got to get a damn quarterback. That's it. I don't care. You know, at this point Trade, Mac trade the defense away. We got to start from from route number one job starting around and get a quarterback. You can't trade all these guys away. It's not baseball. You take dead cap hits. You can't do it. Yeah. No, no, I understand. I mean, I'm just just at this point. I mean, you know everything that we've done as far as the quarter that positions goes. I mean, Mike Glennon. You know the Brian Hoyer? I mean, we had chased Daniel. I mean, What are we doing You no way have to start with the quarterback gets a route back to back to the roots of, you know, catching up with the game. I feel like we're still stuck in the mud with this. You know, Defense wins championships kind of thing. It Z really, really not how the game's played nowadays. Yeah, I'm not sure I quite agree with you there and appreciate the call from Asking guys who have done this Olin and all of those different guys. Yes, You have to be able to make plays in the passing game, but they still believe run the football effectively play great defense. Don't turn it over and then have a quarterback. Unlike Mitch, who can't process who can look through his progressions ago, I made a play there. He said. You don't have to score 40 again. Yeah. You keep putting that in the wrong order. The quarterback is the number one thing. You mentioned the defense of the running game. Well, yeah, I mean, but the quarterback thing is is something that we can't just tuck under the mattress. You've got to get this right. Say, for instance, whence is not in the Bears. Don't go after once, then what? Right? What will you and I speculated that more than likely the Bears wouldn't get Watson because of the lack of capital that the Bears would be Trying to trade like they don't have the quarterback to give to you, Stine. Maybe even watching. My name is staying used to who knows? So say it's not once they once goes to the Colts. So then what? Right now you're stuck holding the bag. But but but out of everything else, maybe your defense does get better this upcoming season for 21. Maybe you are getting better with the running game. But you're still be stuck with a quarterback to can't make plays and and and a quarterback that a offensive coordinator or a head coach that doesn't have enough imagination to get that quarterback better. I mean, I don't disagree with you there. I'm just not after calling all of these different people around the league yesterday. I'm not convinced the court the long term answer exists. Today on February. Whatever it is the ninth. I don't think the long term answer exists realistically for the Chicago Bears. Well, then fire them all. You're not going to do that. But you know calf if there's no love term answer, where the wise Maggie and pay still in play in place in Lake Forest, because they feel like they're I'm not saying I believe this. Don't get me wrong. They believe they're closer to being competitive than the rest of us might think. With with what quarterback with with offense. It's a great question like your point about the defense. Hey, you can get better defensive that you're getting older. Now. You gotta catch like in the bottle. You're not gonna be the bears under Vic Fangio. You're not gonna be the bears under lovey Smith. But you can get better. Even though you get older. You can get better defensively and, yeah, you could fix that running game. Sure you could be able to do some of that offensive line. But who's the quarterback? That's going to make the offense better? I don't know. You're right. I don't need 35.2 game. But I wanted unauthentic. That is an adult offense are good offense on offense. That defense is fear. Well, it was last night. We seen that for the Bears defense that an offense fair fears that the Bears have We've got a break because we've got our game. Hoodwinked is coming up. Couple places he's listed at 63 Ian Rapoport podcast with Michael Rapaport and Donovan Mitchell was asked how tall he is. That's all you 61 the only 616163 with shoes. But without shoes. Six months I could take you in the post. Probably. Maybe people think that but so that Z. I am rap apart. I think I said Ian Rappaport. I am Rappaport with Michael Rapaport with Donald Mitchell. He says he's 61. 63 with Souza. Two inch heels and seems like a lot to me. I know Are you two inches taller with what you're wearing with your MBA shoes. I don't know. Seems like a lot. Your 61. It doesn't matter how tall you are. Does everybody else's adding that too, if somebody is Hey, in stocking feet, I'm 61. You don't play and you know your socks? Yes, my club. Yeah, but everyone puts two inches on the press guide, right? Is that like a high school rule you add to interest everybody. But we didn't get to Guy was 631 75. "It was almost like we got to get rid of golf. And we want Stafford. You guys take off. We're going to sweeten the deal here and then we'll take Stafford all the other teams. They weren't doing that. No, it was just simply a transaction of here's our first round pick. We want Matthew Stafford. Okay, Okay. All right. Bye. But that's where it was different there. That makes sense. Now, this all kind of May I forgot about the golf contract. You know, you forget about that They had to get out from underneath it. And that's why when somebody goes all this raises the stakes for you, Shawn Watson. From what I was told yesterday. It doesn't The teams know what it's going to take for two. Shaun wants in At least they have an idea what the outline use of you're gonna have to give up this from what I was told. This was on Sunday. It's too first rounds and then two young players. That That's why it's different. They want something that is right there in front of them. That's already You know, come out of the oven. Ready to go. These guys have played a couple of years. So there, you know, Starting a what proves to be a barrier hopefully will be a very successful career and you get the two first round picks whenever those first round picks are this year next year. Apple I've got Cherry Gauss contract and the basic The Lions have him for the next two years at a pretty high price, But they didn't pay a lot of his signing bonus and so forth, so But in two years they can cut him. Release him. Trade him with no dead cat money. No, nothing into caps. So it's a two year commitment. But alliance for Jericho I means 26. We've We've seen him play well. And what if he works out? No, The key is, you know, everybody else has to do their job too. It's not just incumbent upon Jared Goff to come in and go. Hey, you gotta be great here. The Lions as an organization have to be great. Sam Farmer had a half hour conversation with golf for the L A times. And he said that you know, the tough part right now is trying to figure that out. When did it happen? Like when did they decide to move on and their conversations that I may or may not have trying to figure that out? That's the conversation to have. And he asked if it's strange, strange. He's yet to talk with the Rams, he said. A little bit. Yeah. He deserves better than that. I don't know if he's going to get that. It felt like the 40 Niners game. I go back to November, 29. If you say OK, When was the moment where you went? Oh, his future is in doubt. It was against the Niners, Jared Goff had two interceptions and fumble and Sean McVeigh Usually the self blaming that he'll come out and say hey, was us and we didn't play well when he called out golf publicly for the first time. And that's when he said the quarterback needed to take better care of the football. There were several opportunities missed and loss against the Jets as well. I think John Woolford would've beat now. Jared Golf next season. Believe it or not. Can't do it now, but Unless Woolford gets traded to the Lions, and then you know, maybe compete with it, But I Come on, I was told Jared Goff. You know he came in in the game against Seattle. After the You know Jamal Adam's knocks out Woolford that won't for they wanted him to start that game. And I said it on this show, and I didn't have any information. And I heard from somebody you know, affiliated with the Rams to say. I don't know who told you that. That's not true. And I said, Well, nobody told me this is my opinion that I think that he beat out Jared Goff. If golf was healthy, they wanted Woolford in there more mobility, and I think they had lost confidence in me and Jared Goff. And then I think we found out that they wanted Woolford in there. If he doesn't get it knocked out of that game. He's playing. Chemical. Um, I'm sure unless you already know if top your head try and guess who is back up in Detroit is now I was wondering if that help push him. Who is the backup? If I just ask you, you have to name any team named the backup quarterback who's the dame that jumps to mind? Sample. I think I know because I'm a club in his hand. So I want to sit this one out. Yeah, I'm hinting if I said a brand, um, team blindfolded. Who's the backup quarterback career back up. I would say it would have been blamed Gabbert, but he's Brady's backup. Right college. Uh, so Missouri. Oh, chase. Yes. E wasn't a Detroit backing another quarterback old is Chase Daniel. We should make a chase Daniel Tor shirt. Chase. Daniel is like, you know, a concert. Like a band T shirt for their concert dates We used to chase Daniel career moves here. He's 34 you could say, is he Brady's age? I have chase Daniel New Orleans for three years. Kansas City for three years. Philadelphia for year back to New Orleans, Chicago for two years now with Detroit. And he's had, um, these two and three is a starter in 11 years. Yeah, Career salary is not bad, You know, he's done well. He's done well, and you know what he's gonna be able to walk away when it's all said and done. Like, literally. He could walk away. Walk away calmly. No injuries whatsoever. Healthy. Yeah, man. How can you walk away? It's really easy. I didn't play. I didn't never got hurt. Right phone.

"Phone lines right now and be joined by our next guest. His name is Frank Schwab. He covers the NFL for Yahoo! Sports. Frank. How's it going tonight? Hey, good. How are you doing? Good before we get to the Super Bowl. There's a lot of news right now Happening in the NFL. That is unrelated to the Super Bowl. What do you make of the last week regarding the Houston Texans? Yeah. Or the last month of the last year of the last three years, like just a horrible, horrible organization toe to screw this up, And, you know, I was covering the Broncos when the old McDaniels Jay Cutler thing went down, and there's just so many similarities of just How could you? How could it get this bad and You know, I get it. Shot on is unhappy. I get why, but I also don't really I don't Understand what his leverages the Houston Texans just say. You know what the Shawn We're just We're not gonna tell you not gonna happen Where we excited this contract you can either Retire at age 26 believe nine figures on the table or you can play for us. I don't know what choice he really has. I I mean, I I want I want to show on the end up with a better franchise of the team that can actually help him. It gets you get something out of his career, But I don't think Houston's that team right now, but Also from the Houston Texans. I'm not going to be the team that traded to Shawn Watson. Just not that I just can't stomach that now, if you look at the Dolphins come with No, we'll give you a third. Pick two on I am this pack. Is that package? Okay, I get that. What? To think that they would even entertain the thought of trading. That guy for anything less than absolute peak value. It would just be crazy to me. I don't I don't know. I still to this moment, maybe being ignorant by I still think the front Watson. Place for the using factions and 2021, but It just got so out of control that it wouldn't be a comfortable situation if he is still there. What was you doing to be peak value for the Shawn Watson? Because I'm looking at teams that right now have a realistic package to go get him. Miami has a realistic package. But they only have that because of the trays they've made with the Houston Texans. The Jets to me make a lot of sense. Carolina also makes a lot of sense to me. But in terms of draft pick compensation, I don't really see a lot of other teams out there that Can put together that package. You're talking about that. Absolutely correct. I mean, some of these seems to get You know, Rumored with the with the Shawn. It's like, well, you might want him, but we're gonna give the Patriots what the Patriots gonna give up for the Shawn Watson. I can't even like why. Why would you use it like If they get the front lots and they're not gonna draft in the top half of the first round very long. So the basic training him for a bunch of pictures in the twenties. You know, I mean the team like that, So I think the What I have to get if I'm Houston tax ins. Have to get something that gives me a path to a new quarterback, and that means the second or third pick to whatever it is. I need to go to my fan base and say No, we traded too strong, but we have Justin Fields. And it can't be you. I just don't know how you look at your fans in the eye and say We just tried to Shawn Watson. And we're gonna have chase Daniel playing quarterback this year. Yeah, I just don't know how that happens. Like I just you need to have something to bring to the table to get her fan base. Excited again, like they might not be thrilled that the Shawn Watson is gone. But you certainly can't have them have some stopgap troll Flaco type of starter. I get just this is not gonna work that way. So I think it starts there. I think you need to have Um, you know, either a pick or a player, something that gives you a quarterback and then something on top of that. I mean, look, if it Jamal Adams was worth two first round picks, I think they're from Watson's work equivalent before I think, and I don't even think that that's That's out of I pay it, too like I think he's special. I think he is whole fame talent. I think he's just a great great player. Great in the community. Great for your franchise. You checked every single box you want. I don't think there's really a price all too high that I pay for the Shawn Watson in his prime here, I like what you said. When it comes to path to finding a quarterback, and that's why it kind of goes with. Well, I know what I was just saying about the package. Where if I'm Houston if you don't have a top 10 pick in this year's NFL draft, Where I can, at least a sure that have the ability to take a quarterback like I'm only trading to Shawn wants, And if I'm in the situation like you are like, I really like Trey lands, for example, so I need the draft pick to go out there and go get Trey lands because then you'll just find yourself in the situation of constantly chasing your tail, and that's sort of the scenario that they find themselves in. They don't only have a quarterback problem right now. To me. They have a coaching problem now. I don't know David Kelly. I'm sure I talked to him at some point here in Kansas City when he was the wide receivers coach and I just don't really remember it. So I don't have anything negative to say about the man. But nobody in the NFL was going to hire David Cully to be their NFL head coach. Aside from Houston, and the fact that they fired their coach on October 5th they then were the last team to hire a head coach, and they hired somebody that nobody else wants to hire. You can't mess things up more than Houston's messed it up. No, you can't. And I mean, even to the point of like, you know, I was going through, and I did this a couple post this week, ranking the quarterback to Avi Tom Brady quarterback to those. You know Brady's beat in the playoffs, and I got that. Rock cost Wyler and I was like I forgot that the Houston Texans were the team Bill O'Brien was the team to give him that crazy contract like I mean, the text is made so many bad moves over the past few years that you just kind of forget about the run of the mill. Bad moves they made when you know they're off trading the third pick for Laramie Tunsil and not realizing that he had a lever. She didn't the highest contract ever for another in the line and stuff like that. It's just a bad franchise right now. I don't want to, and I don't want to be negative about it. Cully, I think You know, I have no idea. Maybe he's an expert Syrians. He could be fantastic, but the fact is his oldest coach ever to get his first time shot. This is the team. This guy? Obviously rebuilding. Hey, might be a great coach. I don't know. But all the guys out there you could have hired. I just wonder if a lot of guys were just like I don't want this Houston job. I don't really This isn't the job for me. I know it's one of 32. But That that's not really the the ownerships. Situation's bad old Jack Easterby. Situation is really, really curious of best and probably toxic it just why would anybody want to go to their franchise player?.

"So way. Keep chasing the dream, Jonathan Hood and Good morning to you, My friend of eight. Franchise championship level Top seven guy in the league quarterback playing for the Bears. It's not Nick Foles, not take Cutler. It's not Mitchell Travis Key. It's not my Glennon. It's not chase Daniel and I can keep naming names while Green Bay is Aaron Rodgers and all these different see the four that are left have the four probable final four for M V P. So Jeremy followers on the cage's this morning and said He pulled her. Canvass the number of top level executives in the NFL and the cost to get the show on. Watson starts a three first round picks. Now I personally believe it's going to cost a lot more than that, if the Bears Where to get him because they don't have a young quarterback asset to send back. So that makes the Jets and Dolphins favorites but would you if it was Three number ones, At least. Would you entertain that? Absolutely out Entertaining. I'll tell you why, Captain When I was born the quarterback for the Chicago Bears is Bobby Douglas. For those that don't remember Bobby Douglas. Bobby was a guy that was always on the run running for his life because the offensive line was so bad. He also had the ability to run. You remember Bobby Douglas as well right so that the reason why that this is important is because Bobby Douglas was the quarterback When I was born, why was really able to watch With my dad watching football and trying to understand it. Mike Phipps was a quarterback. I'm a kid of the seventies. So I remember Mike Phipps as a really young person. Mike Phipps, Vince Evans Baba Vellini. That was the trio quarterbacks. 1979 then Vince Evans. I'm like, Wow, that looks like me is actually playing quarterback actually have his jersey at home, then seven I had made up a few years ago. And so the reason why that this is important today and every years because the Bears have never had that quality cornerstone quarterback that you could depend on to win a championship year in and year out. Never had that. You know when Jay Cutler came to the Bears People thought that the Bears were actually getting the better of the deal because you have Jay Cutler, who has had really come into his own yet with Denver raw talent, mid twenties and you said You know, Now you're catching him on the right spot. If you just nurture him. You got a quarterback for the next 10 years. Denver saw guys that was never going to get there, right? The Bears thought he's a young guy. He's on the way up. He's gonna be good and then never happened for him here in Chicago. And so the reason why that we even talk about the Shawn Watson is because the Bears have needed that guy forever. Forever. You just want a guy for 10 years to give you a chance. The organization wants to give a quarterback a chance, but it never happens, never materializes. And so that's the thing that's disheartening to me. I don't think you'll ever be a bear. But boy it be great to see him in a bear's uniforms, so it without a young quarterback asset. To put into a deal. If you got the call from Nicholas Aereo's the new GM in Houston and said Buddy. We've been friends a long time. We've done a number of deals together with Ryan and Nicolas. Ariel. Have, um, I've tried. He's not going to play for us. I got to move him. You're my first call. Three number ones, and you don't have a young quarterback. Asset to give me two more twos. You doing it? I think I just laid out for you that the three ones is what you're going to get. Someone else is going to be able to give more than you know. God bless you, But I just I'm I'm giving you my three number one picks because I don't think I'm smart enough to say I don't have number one picks. It's okay. To Shawn Watson. I'm gonna be in the low twenties anyway, because they're Shawn Watson is just that good as a quarterback. We haven't You see the best of them just as of yet, so I think that I could somehow get back into the first round at some point. So I could be able to get more picks in the 2nd 3rd round somewhere down the line, But three number ones should be rich enough. If everybody wants to give the farm for strong watching. That's fine, But I think I draw the line at those number one picks because that's valuable to a bad Houston team. No question if you're Houston, No, and you can't convince him. Hey, man, let's work this out. I wasn't here for all the nonsense. I'm the new GM. You tell me what I could do to make this right? And I will. I'm not convinced. That they're going to close the door yet on him in Houston. Yeah. You know, if we had odds cap and take a look at the teams that really could use it to John Watson or him returning, he may be able to return to Houston, Who knows? Very well could be. He's upset now. But he hasn't communicated with the Houston Texans. Just as of yet has a sat down with the front office and really was able part his heart of what Disappoint him the most. We just know that cursory story of Hey, I gave you a couple names for GM. You didn't talk to him. That's just that's just bad business as a franchise guy. You take care of your franchise guy, you know, bending over backwards, but you're just trying to be good business people, right? Hey, my franchise quarterback says that here's a couple of guys that could be GM or a couple guys. That could be head coach. We should we should talk to him doesn't happen. They gotta be better than that. Right. Well, I don't understand. We're in a communication world. We've gotten away from the art of communicating because everybody's got it. Let me text you let me know I'd never want to have any personal Conversations and it gets horrible thing for our society. What If your Cal McNair That's my franchise guy. He's amazing. The great player. He's even better as a person. He's awesome in the room..

"Podcast is now on the ESPN app on our platform. How about that so popular? The armchair nutritionist is And he's got a cult following man guys in the neighborhood. They're like ends and stuff is great. I'm a health and fitness guy myself. You bumping the guys at the gym and like Danny stuff is so good. You you're gonna make a smart ass comment, but I think you could stop that. The cult He's so good, and it's on the platform. No, I'm happy for Danny. So you can check out all the podcast there. The SP in Chicago. It was It was more of the same from George. Really? I mean, I think there aren't good answers. You know what When All the fans are mad in your co said yesterday. Well, what do you guys expect? Maybe you're right. The answers aren't answers. We like they're not good, because they don't really have any right. They can't tell the quarterback they're gonna get they can take it to have a couple of plans. A couple contingency plans is they start moving forward, depending upon what happens, I very much doubt they have the right mindset. Who put the proper football people in place to run that side of the organization. Anyway. Look, history has his born that out to this point, and we've gone through the stats or the data lot for everybody in the last couple of days. Since did go laugh instead, since it was fired in 1982, and that's sort of the last like kind of vestige from the Alice clan, right? I mean, because We've talked about the sun Mugsy passing in the late seventies. The old man was you know it past about 1983 79 for McGee 83 for pop of that They were the ones that brought Jim Finks and Jerry Venecia and didn't go back and so once did go left and 92, in which Officially sort of the McCaskey era began. You're not talking about nearly 30 years and seven playoff appearances. Three quarters of the time The Bears have missed the playoffs. They have one playoff win. I'm sorry. They have three playoff wins since 2000. They don't have any in the last decade. I mean, every every bit of relevant data tells you that they just don't know what they're doing, and they might not metal. George says. We don't meddle in football, but your height you and Ted are hiring people to make football decisions. And I don't think they know. I don't think they know what they should be looking for. I don't think they know how to identify the right people. And that's the problem with this organization. Quite frankly, they just don't stack up with the teams that we should measure them against. The teams like the Green Bay Packers, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the New England Patriots, They do not stack up with them period. So it's disappointing and I don't think George has good answers. But he did come on. He really tried to butter him up early. You know, we talked about Sylvie's cancer diagnosis and always recovered and everybody's pulling for him on my goal, boys, But Sylvie didn't take the setting traps and just dropped. The guy would be like, Oh, man. Now I can't go after George. He's he's You know, you could I don't know. It's tough, but then he takes a shot at Waddell now, of course Georgian. Tom, Go way back! Way back. Listen to this If I could offer by way of analogy, your broadcast partner Tom Waddell. When he got into the profession he's in now. I think you would be the first to tell you You struggled. Geez, George. He's like, That's it. They're going after me. I'm going after that way. Wiles response that I twitch when that was going out with was you take the back way in back. Little good, kind of like scratches House offer this up. Anybody want to listen to the first two months of Mac, You're growing hair. The afternoon's alone when you just started, But we just started. You want to listen like May 2000 and one in June of 2000 won Well, that's I don't know how we stayed on the air. I'll be. I'll be as Frank and his honest that I can It was brutal, at times, brutal, dysfunctional like I went to school for this iced. I still think now, but I mean, I certainly start back then, like I mean that with the right way all stink. When we first got there, you could point to a fact. Like okay time He struggled early on, but that does not have anything to do with what you got going on being better. It's like, Well, you know, I could sit here and tell you that the sun does come up in the East and because of that. Our guys were trying to do a pretty good job. It's not related to each other. He was making a comparison about pace and Ryan and Ryan pace of magnetic kind of growing on the job and look at models grown on the job. Yeah, well, get better, that here's the problem with that. Here's the silliness with that. You don't grow on the job. You grow on the job that you've had before at the other company. They grew on the job, and we're ready to take that next step was to grow on the job. When you're an assistant. When you're there, you're scholar itself. Then when you get hired to do the main job, the big job You're supposed to already know what the hell you're doing. You're not still growing. Now you continue to learn because learning process goes on forever. You never stop learning car. Never. OK, you could go ahead. Say that, but know when they get there. They've already had two bit overqualified for the position. They had to put them in a position to get the big to make those big decisions that need to be made here is George on the organization trying to pick a quarterback. A Zafar is finally got. This has got Sylvie's question. That's good here. A Zafar is finding the quarterback George the list that Ryan Paces acquired. It's Brian Hoyer. Matt Barkley mic'd Robiskie. Mark Sanchez, Mike Lennon, Chase Daniel Tyler Bray and Nick Foles. When I read you those names why you pull Brian picked is kind of fit here forever. Quarterback A lot of second. You were breaking up there a little bit mark, but I think you said with that lineup of names of quarterbacks Right. I said Why? Why do you believe Ryan Pace is going to get this right? We think he's grown in the job. Yes, there have been mistakes along the way. But everybody makes mistakes. If I could offer by way of analogy, your broadcast partner, Tom Waddell, when he got into the profession he's in now. I think it would be the first to tell you You struggled. Um, but he got better Still, I am And the people that brought him on had faith in him. And stuck with.

"And right now they are not doing what's best for them. And I wish they would realize that two things one. I don't even know your response. You don't even have to spend any time on it. I believe the Urban Meyer decision is magnificent. And that fan base is juiced up and the article and s. I about him trying to build a culture and that all the research he's done over a six year period of what it would take to be successfully. NFL fire was a Jags fan. I would be over the moon today. Okay, that's to the side. As you look, they're not going anywhere. Let me be clear. JD. If I owned the bears, I would have cleaned house. Okay, I would have got a new regime. I'd have a different structure the whole thing. That's not happening. I feel Way better that Matt Nagy is going to have the loudest voice in the room when they work out and investigate all the quarterbacks because the Chiefs as Dan Wiederer pointed out to us yesterday, or 27 with their pick the year they got Patrick the homes they were able to finagle their way up to get him and he's going to go down as a top 10 guy, so I like that. Matt is involved where John Fox was kept in the dark. Of course. I mean, there was no other nothing else they could do there. I mean, if they were going to keep both of those guys and they know they gotta find a quarterback And people roll their eyes at the whole working together. Thing like they legit need Nagy to spearhead this Now, some people might say, Well, it didn't work out which Robiskie and the nick Foles thing that's very different. Talking about finding a young quarterback who might not be in the position to start right away next year, But they got to begin this process I wrote this today and I hope he doesn't come across as too crass, you know? I got the late night shows you could be crashed into your approach. Your time slot here is is very on the up enough. Okay, Respectable, Okay. I mean, the bears to me are like a kid who are person who refuses to take swimming lessons. Then every 5 10 years just jumps in the deep end of the pool, You know, like like they don't build towards the move. They make like they just neglect the position. They neglected name neglected. They neglected. Oh, J. Neglected. They neglected their neglected. Whoa! We're gonna trade up for Mitch. They neglected they neglected. You need to start building something at that position but needs to be, in my opinion, a fundamental understanding off the quarterback position. Where is the vision? Now? Cap? Nagy is a former quarterback, right? I mean, he's a former quarterback is what he does. He's got some guys on the staff that played quarterback. Hopefully, now that They are led into the process. This will will change and they will. It will help. And they will begin. It doesn't they don't have to hit. Grand Slam this offseason. It would help they don't have to just start the process. The pipeline. Of bringing in some young quarterbacks and attempting to develop them. You can't get better if you don't try to get better. And for the longest time, they just weren't really trying. And when they tried, it was a bad idea. Like a Mike Glennon. Mitch was an honest effort. It was the honest thing to do. And they just missed. Okay. What I mean after that. Why, then? In those next two years in 18 19 before the false trade where the bread bears still not trying to bring in some people, younger people Just in case that your biscuit thing did not work out. Instead, you got chase Daniel, who was of no threat unseat Mitch whatsoever because they're too set in stone. So I agree. Jonathan and cap I think that that Maggie is going to help this. And I think you will probably have a bond that no, not sure is gonna be the loudest or it's gonna be a very loud voice in the process. So the bills. I'm sorry that the bills, the cancer the Chiefs at the top of the mountain. That's where all teams want, Toby. Who's second amongst these four games that we're going to see that the Bears should try to emulate. I think the Packers and Chiefs will be the Super Bowl. What do you think about that? I think tankers cheese. Well, the Packers The Packers seemed to have a easier road this year. Then the years pass right. There's no dynamic 40 Niner team in the way. That fair to say in the NFC? Yeah. I mean, I think you know what I think. Actually, I think I want to see how the Saints play this weekend. Jonathan. We'll see because I kind of feel like The Bears believe it or not. Caught him in a time where they were just getting all those great players back from injury and from the covert list and everything with with Tamara and Michael Thomas. I wonder how much better they'll be this weekend against Tampa. Because those guys are now in the building, actually practicing more leading up to that game, and they were against the Bears last weekend. I don't think we've heard the end of the Saints. I think Packers Saints If that's how it plays out, would be a tremendous conference championship game. So camp if you couldn't be the chief's when you for me if I can be the Chiefs as organization When I want to be the Ravens. I wanna be Buffalo. You believe that strong and Josh Allen buffaloes exciting bubbles exciting teams. Josh Alan's gonna be an all pro. They got a really good like a good front office structures there. They've really figured it out and buffalo and they had a culture that had to be completely overhauled and their ownership was not was not well thought of not well received notice. You don't hear the name's Teri and Kim Pakula anymore in the headlines, they're in the back off. I don't know if they're focused on the sabers or whatever now, but I mean they have backed off. They have put some real football people in place there. They have empowered them. They have made some tremendous roster decisions. I think the bills do some reading about Brandon being and Sean McDermott and their collapse. They talk the same word collaboration. They hit on their quarterback,.

"Listen, we all may have better things to do just cannae. Look, I'm excited again, and the fan in me is thrilled that this team is in the post season. This is what you every year you go to the gate, and your only hope for your first hope is is to get to the postseason to get into the tournament. The Bears got in how they got in while you could sit. Have a conversation, but that for forever. What does it mean? I you're talking. Listen, The fan in me is happy They ran. Come on. Me to like It's another week where we It's appointment Television. Not that the NFL playoffs wouldn't be appointment television for us, but to follow our team against the New Orleans Saints, a team that we've played a lot lately, too well, not well took him to overtime, though this year and that was that was before money. Mitch come imagining Mitch would have been on the center for that game. That's the way The bear's ways that game and listen, I I told you, I get off the Mitch roller coaster a long time ago. I'm not willing to get back on it. It's just it is what it is that what this through third thing I ask of Allah and black the true Thursday. It's not people think I rage against Mitch and I want to talk about this game and about Everything, but it's again. It's walking and chewing gum at the same time, would you say it's the zoom in vs Zoom out approach. It's the It's the gift. Or whatever the mean that was going around all week that I kept getting tweeted with the stupid damn picture of Aaron Rodgers next to Mitch to biscuit and their 1st 50 games in the record or something like that. That's the thing I wish would go away that conversation. They lure me back into the fight. Because these people exist in they're out there and I don't know how how they're thinking right and how one can watch a narrow in Roger's game in the first few years of his career with the Packers and Bears game in the first few years of Mitch is career And and compare the same. Did you watch the Houston game? I mean, like, Look, they lost that game. Listen, it's the same converse it like, if you want to play that game, everybody out there and I don't want to play that game because you you immediately. You take my attention away, or are you? You? You, you, you. You make me hit the off button when you take that approach. I could sit here and tell you, like the Bears have only beaten two teams with winning records in two years. There's 16 and 16 the last two years and they've got three wins against teams with winning records. Do you know those teams were Minnesota twice last year? And Chase Daniel plagued 99% of the snaps in the first win, and Mitch beats Sean Mannion in the second game and the game this year they beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They hated it Falls was quarterback like so I mean, like I can throw that. I don't want to have that argument with people that don't show me a board of Mitch is record versus Aaron Rodgers. Is that I'm gonna have to tell you the only team with a winning record we beat this year. Nick Foles was a quarterback and do I think Nick Foles was a good quarterback for us this year? No, so it's not cut. It's not simple like that. It's just not Use your brain. Use your eyes. Mitch isn't the worst quarterback in the National Football League. Not even close. Can you praise him for bouncing back? He didn't play. Look what he gave us. Basically what we thought we were going to get. It was who he has been for two years yesterday. You're going to see him do some really good things against lesser teams out of the pocket and on the move when you dial stuff up for him when the level of talent of your opponent goes up And you're forced to do different things. It doesn't go is well, that's real. That's not banging on him. That's reality people. Like this team is eight. Nate the last two years. I love them. They're my in my blood during my soul. I'm glad they're in this in the postseason, but that doesn't mean Two years is a lifetime in the National Football League. This sample size is enormous. And it's not just Mitch. It's your offense. It's your defense insurance tire team. Yes, that the bad teams you struggle against. You have three wins against teams with winning records the last two years and again. This is not bitch centric. This is overall as a team. You beat the Vikings twice last year. One time it was in week 17 when they couldn't give him a dump. About the outcome of the game because their seed was secure. No one ranted against the Vikings last year, like the ranting this year over a quarter of football with the Eagles when the liking sat everybody that players play that's a different conversation, and you beat the bucks this year. Yes, it was Tom Brady. He forgot what down it was at the end of the scene. Now moment. You don't you still win. But like this is where you kind of have to zoom out and go. Okay? I'm thrilled during the postseason. They are who we've expected them to be over two years, aren't they? Or they have defined themselves in pretty clear fashion. You're eight and eight in 2000 and 19 Year, 88 and 2000 and 20. You beat the lesser opponents. You mightily struggle against the better teams in the National Football League, as most teams do. But you can't consider yourself one of the quote unquote elite teams when you struggle with that. Class of roster that class of team so Like that's the conversation when you simplify things for our quarterback, and you get him on the edge, and you asked him to do the things that he does excel that he can make some place. He's not the worst quarterback in the league. He'll be in this league for a very long time. When the level of talent of the opponent is escalated, and he's asked to get out of that comfort zone and do different things. We've seen how that goes again. It's not banging on him. What you saw yesterday. Was exactly who this team has been for quite a long period of time. Great agreed, and it really good stuff right there, and we want to hear from you today. All right, So this is in a certain way still like a victory Monday because they did get in. Hell, yes to the postseason. It was weird. The way they got in that Arizona Rams game was completely weird. It didn't shock us. What, though the Bears did ever really good game plan against the Packers. They were in it going into the fourth quarter than that cute, fourth down play. We'll get into that. And then I want to. I want to share with you. How Many of us are getting the cake and eat it too thing with the bears in the postseason. For those who like that, and I think we all like a postseason game and the season to be extended, But we still make it changes. There are there's There's some serious discussion out there that maybe with the front office. We will get some changes the phone number to reach us 3323776. Like most Mondays after bears games we want to hear from you. We have really no guests scheduled because we have marching record five thirty's a part of the show Plenty of time for you were talking about it. Are we going to also get changes and a playoff berth? That's next. You're Listeningto Waddle and Sylvia on ESPN 1000, Chicago's home for Sports Captain Jay Hood.

I watch the quarterbacks a lot and a big into reading tells if i can pick up a tell a quarterback if he's going to let me know when the ball is going to snap it makes my job a lot easier. Yeah and chase. Daniel's has a huge tell. Matt ryan is is a guy. He's got a huge tail to think i've talked about it. A little bit is spreads. His legs were quick Chase daniel's does this thing with his arms where he has a biocide in swing it forward one time and swing it forward another time and that's when whole hiked. The ball is on it the swing. Yeah in our defensive line picked up and they were just you know a split second faster than normal which is deadly But you could actually see Start to go before the ball was snapped so that was interesting. Yeah huge tail huge. I i find it hard to believe it. You know a quarterbacks coach or something has stepped in and said go do. everybody knows when you're getting ready to snap. Could you do that metronome crack. Jp had a fantastic game again. Fantastic absolutely incredible. I don't know how this guy it i don't either. I mean just goes the whole season. It's like he never run out of energy. he's never hurt and he just played the same level all the time. It's not like he's out there. Being no brag about it or anything like that means very confident as for sure. But he's not a show boater. Everything does not he. He's he's doing it. Because i don't know reminds me like a special forces guys like you know just makes me tougher. The more the more you hurt me the stronger idea. He like lives for that mask. And you just install it never stops. i counted. he had four tipped. it didn't show up in the stance. But i was looking. I was like yeah. He got his hand on that ball. I'm pretty damn sure. And then again. I was like oh looks like you got another one and another one. I was like holy crap. And he gets a lot of tips balls because he if you watch him if he does get to the quarterback he's jumping you know when quarterback goes..
