"Because i remember like amar woodley and stuff like we used to pay them like years after they left us. We're paying them to three years after he antonio brown was on the books for a couple of years after he left the trade oakland. Okay but he's he's off the books now. I don't believe don't take this as gospel. I don't believe anyone that's not currently on their roster that is counting towards their salary cap. Okay all right. I appreciate it. Thanks all right thanks for. She ate it all right alfred. He's through in a little bit. More than hypothetical so remember. Alpha was saying if gm calls me on draft night nausea harrison williams devante williamson against your off. The boards aven collins is available. Someone's as they went straight back up into the first down. He says the day ten in the second and then give it up. Make the trays. Make the trade no doubt about it. make that trade all. Let's get to the last question here on twitter from justin he said. How valuable is ju. I try to keep in mind without juju. Johnson meeting diontae johnson and chase claypool wouldn't have been a successful as they were this past season. Juju takes the attention off of other receivers because of his talent getting rid of him. I feel hurt more than help. I need juju. smith schuster has value. I really do. i just. Don't think that his value is maybe quite as you're alluding to hear justice. I think when he looked at what juju did as a rookie with the antonio brown whole my gosh that was does a direct correlation. Between antonio brown's dominance drawing the attention of the defense and juju going to town on the opposite side. I don't necessarily the case because juju smith schuster. I don't really feel like i could be wrong in. There's certain people that are part of the steel curtain dot com. They will know more than me. I'd never felt it. He was drawing the full attention of the defense. The steelers moved the ball well because they had so many options. They had ebron diontae. Johnson they had chase claypool the james washington time-to-time vance madonna was still an option. And then obviously james conner the football so they had a ton of weapons into they were able to kinda pick their spots. so that's juju does have value. Not saying that. I just don't know if he's as valuable as everyone thinks is all right so we have people in opera. If you wanna talk your last chance get ready to close out the show. I don't hear from you and we're gonna cut it off all right. It's been a great show for everyone. That's been a part of this show live. Let's ride talking about free agency. The draft know that. I'm gonna be your every tuesday night. Seven thirty pm eastern time to talk about the steelers. What's going on what's happening next week. We'll be talking about the new league year. Starting news that have been made news at haven't been.

"Robbed. Now you're probably saying here's the stats guy. So we know which way he's going. You're going to be surprised by answering your like. Oh that's a typical answer. I thought it was a coin. Flip between the two players. I really did and your privacy and put the stats. tj everything that he led in the league. I understand but at the same time. They don't play the same position. That's kind of like comparing a tight end stats to a wide receiver. Stats any tight end. That puts any kind of stats close to what a wide receiver puts. Up is an absolutely elites tight. End like a travis kelsey. That's just how it works. But where they play and they're like and then people would have stable. Aaron donald has got a lot more. You know what across the league. Interior defensive linemen get double team bore. Then ed rushers. It's how it works so for that. That's not a good argument either yes. Tj had the stats where he led the league in so many things and aaron donald also had where he led in. I know who's leading amount of double team and forced fumbles. I knew it was going to be a coin flip. My guess was that the donald was probably going to get it. Not because i would've voted for what personally. Not even just as the steelers fans at at a stat guy. I would've voted for what i thought that. That was the wise decision. I but i not going to say. Tj what was robbed because of tj watt would have won the award. Then you could just as easily aaron. Donald was robbed. That's how close they were. I feel it was neck and neck And honestly hopefully this just motivates. Tj watt even more. Just just to say what it is and it's funny because people like what they have to game plan so much around aaron donald. We also set the game plan so much around. Tj what a lot of these arguments could be made for both players. They really could. And that's why. I thought even though if you broke down the statistics of the sacks of the passes defensed the you know the interceptions there the the quarterback hits and pressures in all those different things at t. J. watt had the massive advantage over. I still see how because donald plays a different position that you could also consider him as well. I thought it was really close. The voting was pretty close. I think it was twenty seven to twenty with three votes than going to The cornerback for miami. That's exactly your bro. i can't remember or i. it's sort of the next. I know that The that was how that broke down so I felt that last year. I was more frustrated last year because tj definitely had the stats and everything else. But everyone was so convinced about stefan gilmore. When i saw him absolutely disappear and i saw him Get absolutely eaten up in a game. Which cost the patriots of a buy in the playoffs and of ultimately their early exit because of how poorly he played. I will say this that although the postseason should not count for these awards sometimes it sticks out in your mind but what sticks out. In most voters everyone else's mind was what have you done for me. Lately and tj watched the the majority of his best stats were earlier on in the season. When the steelers you know fell off the face. The map at the end of the at the end of the season. That did not do him. Any favors Bud dupree kinda allow teams to focus on tj even more. That didn't do him any favors. And that's probably what went into a lot of these things because you're talking about voters if it was strictly the stacks that's what tj. What won the award that he did which is for leading the nfl and sacks there's voting about it but when you're talking about voters just like the heisman in college and stuff like that they're going to be all by certain things that they that they shouldn't be odd by. But in this case i could. I could not argue with anyone who voted one way or the other with those two based on on the seasons if they had so. That's that's the stat breakdown there. So with that make sure you're tuning into the steel curtain for all of your podcasts or both are audio only both are ones that are live on youtube and facebook. If you haven't ever caught carmeli show try to do that. Sometime this offseason. It's a lot of fun on especially make sure you're signed into youtube or something like that so you can comment on a live chat because it it it does get to be a lot.

"Impossible. What would be impossible is if you took the best percentage of all these guys and apply to claypool because that would have been absolutely insane this. I just did this for fun. Because it's so unrealistic was that Imagine chase claypool being targeted two hundred and fifty two times with a hundred and seventy one receptions two thousand nine hundred and fifty nine yards and twenty seven touchdowns that would be insane. So that's out the window. But what i thought was interesting as what if i looked at the worst of these are all of these decreased and i give you these statistics. How would you still judge chase claypool in his second season and those statistics would've would be ninety one targets forty nine receptions six hundred sixty nine yards and seven touchdowns that would not be awful. It wouldn't be an increase. Obviously because we did the worst ones where they were all decreased but that still would not be a bad statistical year. It wouldn't be a great one but it wouldn't be like he completely fell off the face of the earth so that was interesting. What i did just to kind of closed this up and did this for fun. I went back and said all right. I'm going to look at some of these guys. Statistics and. I'm going to figure out what i'm going to project him to be this year and what i did was. I actually took deontay. Johnson's dondi johnson's increase in targets. His increase in receptions his increase in yards. Apply them on a chase claypool and said he's going to do a job. He's not gonna score more touchdowns he's gonna score the same which would be fantastic if he could once again scored nine receiving touchdowns so this. This is kind of what. I'm looking at as kind of my ceiling for chase claypool for twenty twenty one and we'll come back and look at it in a year and see how we did but if he could get. Let's see this one hundred seventy one targets. I don't know that he's going to get that. I don't. I don't know i think he's going to be targeted a lot this year. Because especially if there's no juju smith schuster if he moves on a free agency you're going to see more chase claypool. I think one fifty would be a little bit more realistic. I went with the numbers. And the numbers said seventy one ninety two receptions one thousand one hundred eighty five receiving yards and nine touchdowns. So we'll go that with the reception on ninety two receptions for eleven eighty five and nine touchdowns. I think that would be fantastic. Sophomore season for chase claypool with the pittsburgh steelers. I would love to see it. I don't know if that's exactly what it will be. But based on the numbers based on even looking at it. I mean that's very slack. I said extremist ciller lewis lips. That would be within fifty yards of what lip chad. That would be less receptions. But that's just the way it worked back then and it would and lift actually had more touchdowns. The second season had twelve receiving touchdowns which was crazy. So it's not unattainable to say chase. Claypool could even hit the eleven hundred yard mark next year. If somehow the steelers found a way to keep juju smith schuster and they're still trying to spread the ball around. I could see that number decrease if the nfl play seventeen games. This is a lot more more possible because he would have extra gave the do it. But we'll see so with that we're going to go and take a break. We're gonna come back. I'm going to address just a few random things before we call the show one of which was an answer that i said i would do from last week where i did actually have. I had estimated ranking. But i wanted to go back and verify it so we'll be. I'll give you the answer to that right after this.

one thousand twenty seven touchdowns last week nine touchdowns seven touchdowns deontay ninety two receptions next year eleven hundred yard second season six hundred sixty nine yards forty nine receptions juju smith schuster seventeen games two hundred and fifty two time one hundred seventy one target ninety one targets two thousand nine hundred and one fifty johnson

Steelers vs. Browns - Game Recap

"The cleveland browns. Two thousand two. The last time this franchise was in the playoffs but they beat the steelers yesterday's and they get in and dan. They started out running the football with nick. Chubb that power. Run game with nick chubb. You see that offensive line. Kind of changing. Denting the line of scrimmage and then chubs depth pig playmaking physical and not between the tackles but also got big enough speed and baker. Getting don is looking for tight. End up ten nine on first and goal in the third quarter this afternoon. Yeah the fact that they went back to this he missed it in the same play gets his is. Backside finds often prefer touchdown. No ben in this game mason rudolph way had some good moments. And then he had this one really good blitz packet by the browns defensive drop myles garrett into and then that safety to sit there like all right. Don't leave the ball mason. Rudolph shoots turner for this defense. Need mental switched sides on the field because it went to the fourth quarter and then it went to jarvis landry and the browns were up twenty four to nine not love this play. Call you kind of get. Landry sideline to sideline and you handed off for the touchdown. And then finally you get the ball out of pittsburgh's defense something that chase claypool done. So well look at his ability. Go up kind of contest for that. Catch over jumped. The fence and back touchdown pitchford. That made it twenty four sixteen and then under two minutes to go in the game and this is juju smith schuster and all of a sudden. It's twenty four twenty two dan. How about the two point conversion you gotta make sure at some point. This guy's got the opportunity to go high point of all scrambled around. Give them a chance to go get his hands on that. Football fewer still had chances stephen. Carlson somehow manages to come up with this on side kick. he's eighty nine cleveland. There for a moment there was kind of between the wickets. If you know what i mean. But he manages to hang onto it. And then dan baker mayfield runs with the first down the isis. The player not love the play call by defense came look at the emotion from baker mayfield. You don't kind of representing that city. Just look how much it means to him to finally get that done in cleveland. Good for him good for them. The browns are in the playoffs. The afc wild card round will kick off saturday.

"Which of the players that are currently in your starting lineup. Would you like to replace? Okay? I can't replace Zika as much as I would like to, uh, e. I just I drafted the guy in the first freaking around. How do you You just can't bench a guy like that. All right. I don't trust the odd day Johnson any longer and I don't think Mike Tomlin does either. And I have both him and Chase Claypool taking up my flex spots as they take on the Cincinnati Bengals doesn't seem to make much sense to me. So I'm open to replacing one, if not both of them Also open even though Ryan Tannehill goes up against the porous Detroit Lions defense. I'm open to plugging in Baker Mayfield, who does go up against the tough Giants. I leave Canada Hill. It's this will blow some people's mind that don't understand the fantasy world. Tannehill's been a better fantasy quarterback than Tom Brady. And some would say, How is that possible? He's Ryan can't help, but And the Titans first and foremost feed Derrick Henry. As they did last week to the tune of what 200 yards in a couple of touchdowns. But Tannehill makes throws a J. Brown makes big plays for him. Um, and so Tannehill has been very functional. He's a QB one. If it was Mayfield against the Giants pass. Defense is good. I don't overdo it on matchups. But that's one of those where, yeah, I'd shy away from making that drastic of a move. I'm with you on to Steelers who went from who went from what 11 and 02 now 11 in two seemingly overnight and not looking particularly good doing it their last six quarters. Football. I think Johnson has more value than Claypool. Johnson just seems to get in the ends up even though he drops balls at the same rate. Eric Ebron on the same team drops Ben Ross. Other passage. Um, Claypool, there's an interesting term and fancy football. I didn't invent it called touchdown regression. And what it basically means is when you have a player that gets a bunch of touchdowns and you're just loving it over a span of a month or two. Ah, he always scores, especially if it's AH pass catcher, wide receiver tight end The chances are Those touchdowns will regress that he cannot keep that up. On and it's really happened with Chase Claypool, a rookie who put 10 on the board. I think in his first eight or nine games and correct me if I'm wrong, hasn't hit paydirt. Not with cater in about a month. So Yeah, I would agree with putting Claypool down, but keeping Johnson in there because Johnson seems more likely to score these days. Then clay pulled up. So then throw a name out that you would plug in your second flecks from the ones you mentioned on your bench. It would be most hurt if he was healthy, But based on what I just saw Reports out of San Francisco. Chances are he won't be so. I just saw the McCaffrey is ruled out for yet another week, But I've got a temper that with the expectations of Mike Davis has been underperforming like crazy until last week on, they do go up against Green Bay's defense. You know, I know you don't do match ups for the most part, but that's a pretty good match up. I would look at plugging a Mike Davis in there or a Hollywood Brown, who was absent until late in last night's game. Ah, open the Tyler Boy Open to Mike Williams. But not really on then I'm combing the waiver wire as everyone is doing this time of year. I'd say Davis. For the volume alone. All right. I'm a big volume guy. I think I've made reference to you if if not many times on my fantasy football podcast. Equate sometimes fantasy football decisions on the scene and Moneyball where Brad Pitt is Billy Beane is sitting with all the old curmudgeons who don't understand. How Billy is going to rebuild the Oakland A's without Giambi and Isringhausen and Damon and he has hired Peter Brand, which was the Hollywood name gave in to put given to Paul DePodesta. Help him learn how to do this, and every time Billy brought up a player that all the old guys said they didn't like. Like David Justice, he pointed Peter Brand and Peter Brandt said he gets on base. I like to equate that scene to fantasy football where I would say to you drew all right, Mike Davis his name on the magnet, throw it on the board over the other guys on your bench, you'll say why and I'll say Yeah. Because he touches the ball more. Solid before I let you go and thank God my savior himself, John sending has just walked into my studio. Do I stand a chance against this Robust lineup of Michael of arrows being Mahomes, Metcalf, Jefferson girlie. Dalvin Cook, Cole Beasley, Robbie Anderson and the Baltimore defense. Do I have a prayer's chance of advancing to the finals against Ben Swig if he wins his matchup? Appropriate for your content. Today you introduce prayer into your line about your fantasy semi final. His lineup is very formidable. I think Dalvin Cook has gotten many. Owners to the semi finals, the fantasy playoffs this year as a high volume high producing Running back even in a losing effort last week against the Bucks and early touchdown, plenty yardage. Plenty of touches. Um, but, yeah, Olive arrows lineup is better than yours, however. Um Yes, you have a chance, Drew and I don't know if I joked about this with you or Oliveiro. I believe this Titanic matchup of Dorado versus Olivero. In the fantasy semi finals is the game we will have. On Sunday night on NBC that flexed out America's team, with Jerry Jones still standing by the Cowboys of the biggest draw on television period, I think Olivero versus Carabobo, not Brown's Giants bumped the Cowboys out of the Sunday night spot. Thank you, as always, for your time and insight. Check out Todd's podcast.

"As the week progresses but nonetheless i'm gonna give them a solid snowman before we move onto the running backs. He said he was five dollars at the steelers win ten anno. The rat birds loss. Christmas comes early. that's right snowman. We appreciate that tip absolutely appreciate it here. We have ten dollars from tom. Your who says here. We go steelers here. We go to no one dollar for each w happy we finished. Mostly healthy hoping the bumps and bruises heal up by thursday be plus overall beyond offense a plus on defense be on special teams. They were his grades. Thank you very much. Tom for the tip. We appreciate it all right. Let's move on now. Let's go to the running backs. I think is it yes rushing the steelers rush one hundred six total yards and that includes minus four for mason rudolph who was in the vic victory formation. Conner has thirteen carries for eighty nine yards. Benny snell seven fifteen. Did have a touchdown. Ray mcleod one for three mcfarland three for three. And like i said rudolph three for minus four guys over grading the ground game. What are you giving them. We'll stick with the order. Let's go dave scofield. i'm good. Oh my goodness i almost want to give him the the the the not the letter grade where it was you know pass failed needs. Improvement improved it was improved. It was improved. I mean especially with james conner when you look at eighty nine yards on thirteen carries. So it wasn't that it was. They were still just some screwy decisions and how they were running it and kind of setting things up. There was some things where where players were. Were you saw jacksonville even late. Just kind of shooting gaps. Because they knew where the play was coming as the steelers. Go to snap the ball but in all i would say was improved. They've ran hard they. Did you know play hard. And everything i'm gonna give it a b. it's not like it. Shot off the chart but it is better than what it was. It could maybe even be. A b minus. But it wasn't that they got chuck at the whole game because they can't do anything on the ground. What were you brian. Grady running game. I thought connor looked a whole heck of a lot better this week. And i don't think conor is look bad. I thought he hasn't had the holes. I thought the the open up more lanes forum was well as far as the offense of line. Goes this running game. Did what you needed to do. So i'm i'm fine with giving it a b plus if i were to kind of break this up a little bit. I didn't give you all the opportunity. So don't feel bad if you didn't i'ma give james conner and a i'm gonna give the running game in and everything else that goes along with it. A b minus. I think it's become very clear. I said this on twitter during the game and become very clear. Running back by committee is just not going to work in with this offense. It's just not the steelers are not. I don't think dominant upfront front enough to be able to say okay. It's benny snell xdrive. And then it's anthony mcfarland's drive and then we're gonna get the connor back in. I think that look. It's mike tomlin. We said this all offseason. Everyone says we. They need to go running back by committee running back by committee. And what did we always say. We said plain and simple. That's not tomlin's mo. It just isn't. He's not a guy that wants to do a running back by committee. He wants his bell cal. Put him out there. So i see why it just doesn't do it. That's what i'm saying. It just doesn't fit with his offense. Therefore i think they need to abandon that. It's not that i would love to see anthony. Mcfarland break a big run. But at the same time i don't want them to force it by banging their head against the wall multiple times if benny snell your short yardage guy that's fine. Then he uses any runs in that role. But i think that they need the offense itself from a running perspective. They just need to simplify things. And you might be better off. And i listened to the pre-game podcast. And i thought that Kevin smith barbara grade point of the vans. Macdonald has been a very key player in the run game and they'd clearly miss him and then they lose gentry to a quote significant knee injury He's probably done for the year. And so now you're looking at a situation again where they've were without a player at a position. They liked to use like to run a lot in a two tight end sets. So i'll give it a if i'm giving just conrad given a. I thought he ran hard. I with brian. I don't think the issue is connor. People say we need an upgrade running back. I don't think that. I don't think there's many running backs right now. If you put them in the system they would have ridiculous numbers even derrick henry or or dalvin cook. Wherever else you wanna bring up. Doesn't matter so all right. Good job there guys. Let's go to the receiving corps dante johnson. Back to back one hundred yard games has twelve catches on sixteen targets for one hundred eleven yards chase claypool four catches for fifty nine on eight targets. He has one touchdown. Eric ebron four for thirty six on seven targets. He has a touchdown. And then ray mcleod with four for twenty. Juju smith schuster four for nineteen ray. Ray mccotter everything thrown at them. Juju smith schuster at five targets. That's five players with four or more receptions on the day they spread the ball around as they always do. Let's grade receiving corps. Dave will start with you. I'm going to give them a. I don't really see anything that they did. That would warrant it otherwise. I think they did a nice job. I mean just imagine and this was something that was brought up and i. I don't know if this is something. I can find but i know jeff's going to put you on this task that i'm going to have to search for it is is chase claypool leading the league in in pass interference yards called. Because i mean he's just getting them like crazy. Just imagine you know if those were receptions that he would be an all these place. And that's part of the reason why steeler fans like chase claypool chase claypool and other people that don't watch all the steeler games or don't really look at him as much when it when they're talking about the rookies because they're looking at somebody just the numbers macos receiving yards tump x. Because he's getting pass interference penalties against them all time. But you can't doubt those touchdowns once again. I think the steelers just solemn matchup that they that they liked. And that's why ben's i look more than anybody was always diontae johnson that there was just something that they saw coming into it with jacksonville's depleted secondary. And i think he did. A very nice job was pretty efficient and when when they needed it they they came up with the place. I mean James washington only had one catch but man was at a doozy in a nice spot. So i'm content with what they're doing at the wide receiver. Brian anthony davis grading receivers. A absolutely and i gotta tell you know every picture of me taken from the time. I was probably three years old to seven or eight was like this because i thought it was funny than the love. Bug came along the beginning of this But let me tell you this. I'm looking on the live chat. And i saw our very own. Jeffrey benedict a chime in answering your question about the receiving yards and the the pass interference yards as well. I'll be talking to have after this. And so so here's a big thing. And he mentioned nuke. Which is the andre hot hopkins. Now i was going to bring this up before. I saw that because i read about a week and a half ago where deondraye hopkins would love to see receivers get credit for their pass interference yards and i think that'd be really interesting. I don't think that's hard to do. You just put an extra category in saying pass interference yards in. Don't throw it on their reception yards but give them a stat. That'd be really cool. If that were to happen chase claypool would probably his stats would be amazing. Can you imagine if you got fantasy football numbers on clay pools or the andrea hopkins with that matter on those that would be. That'd be incredible but getting back to this entire rudd receiving stable. I think it's fantastic. I love what they can do. Because if you have to go to. Ray ray you go to ray ray if if when smith schuster went out and i know i've said this a lot i was like. Oh no we can't lose juju. But i was like oh now if juju is gone where dead because you know what everybody else steps up on that team. There is a number one wide receiver each and every week. Everybody wants to do the narrative here. Who is the steelers. True wide receiver the true number one wide receiver w. r. One is every single. Week is going to change here for the pittsburgh steelers and that's awesome because it could be james washington next week. He only had one..

Can the Pittsburgh Steelers Go Undefeated?

"Are see. We are forced to listen to quarterback so often in the world of nfl analysis. So i just wanna thank you for helping lead. The db revolution espn daily. Why does this happen. You guys finally invited me or it's your time man your old team. The steelers are right now. Undefeated and that is surprising. Let's be honest to a lot of people. So how surprising is it though to you. I think it's it's. It's more surprising when you actually watch the games It's obviously surprising. Anytime team goes through more than half of the season and their undefeated. But when you watch the steelers play the second half against tennessee titans even watching them to send the backup quarterback gets the denver broncos or be dominated upfront defensively the way they were against the baltimore ravens but still be undefeated. I think that's the fascinating part is not just that they've managed to win. Every game is just inside of those games. you seen opportunities for them to lose. But they've made the place that they've to. I mean you can even look at a match up against the dallas cowboys and say you know gary gilbert and the dallas cowboys may have deserve to win that game. But that's what this lied about was going to come down to one possession games. He's gonna come our critical situation though football moments and at least it does far. The steelers have found answers to any questions in those important moments. And this is why you sit undefeated. So how does this defense stack up. Ryan versus the steeler defense. Is that you played for that. You helped lead. What are the holes in this defense. You know what. I don't think they necessarily have holes in the sense of of those things being a negative right. He's looking to make a rush. The passer with just for the obviously can bring bring pressure make fitzpatrick ultimate playmaker on the back end and i think they have really good corners. But they don't have that great court but when you all those things together i think you get one of the top defense in the league especially when it comes to pressure and turning the ball over we. That's what football is right. Like people aren't going to hold you. Thirteen points like we did wait. Like that's not the ball we play it. You can't intimidate people like i would get fined and kicked out of every game. Five play james harrison fell six million dollars a year. You can't do those things anymore. But if you could get the ball which the pittsburgh steelers do know that really helps and that's why this team world season. Well i wanna get into the difference between playing football then versus now especially because offense is king these days as you implied right there so the defense is the big reason. The steelers are undefeated. The offense though i mean they've been relatively relatively average so can eighteen built around defense. Like the steelers are ryan. Can that sort of team win in the modern nfl. I believe they can. I believe they can. Because if you look at the individual weapons offensively like they are extremely. good I think you you're missing that one running back piece but we look at pool. Smith schuster the johnson. Eric ebron like that's a skill set or skill position that a lot of teams would love to have especially teams not named became the city chiefs. And so if you can do all those things on the outside like they can. You can score points. Also look at this team at critical moments though. Think about tennessee. Titans having to get a drive late in the game even though been was a reception late like they were able to the ball greg band. There's gonna prevail on the road. The pittsburgh steelers had the hold on dearly man. Hold on they do for the baltimore. Ravens they score in the second half and they were able to do that then back pop. For the end zone touchdown pittsburgh and all the out cut to the chase. Claypool man play. It just seems that all the critical point of the season it's offense has been able to produce down to like. I said the dallas cowboy game last week obviously exploiting a very bad bengals defense and well in a team like the cat city chiefs right and i say okay. One had the baby stopped him have to limit big play. The pittsburgh steelers can do that with rush. Plays on the back end right. Play play man when they need to stop the big click now. Let's go offensively the only time we've ever seen patrick mahomes lose. He was in the playoffs. He was standing across from another super bowl. Winning quarterback that was tom brady and rothlisburger. Isn't tom brady but he can do. Some of those things in important moments. And we've seen of do those. And so i think this team can most certainly went into as you mentioned chase claypool his nickname if catching on with you but maple tron. He comes from canada. He's this guy. I didn't know anything about. I wonder if you did because he has seven touchdowns in his first nine games as a pro. What has he brought to this offense. I mean you look at what this league is turning into. Because of the lack of physicality it's a it's a size speed league right like it's starting to they used to be. It didn't matter what happened in the shorts olympics at the combine like if a fast it didn't necessarily mean it was going to translate do can do certain things there did me but it's starting to mean that at the wide receiver position because of the rules. Like if you could flat out run you're gonna probably get open because they can't hold you. You pass five yards. They can't hit you across the middle play putin critic who has great hands he tracks the ball. Well he has a big body and so when you have all those things just translate we've seen chase claypool. You know kind of come out of nowhere. They just kinda have a knack for finding people that sit what they want to do and utilizing them in a way. That truly helps the team chase. Claypool is just another example of that

"The home buying process with alone that fits your life, Remember that rocket mortgage can. So I think this is one of those opinion shaping weekends in the NFL. Pittsburgh at Tennessee Carolina at New Orleans Dallas at Washington Tampa Bay at Las Vegas, San Francisco at New England. Seattle at at Arizona. There are six I think big time matchups this week in the NFL. That will go a long way in sort of shaping how we feel about each of those teams. So we're going to hop around the country today and take a look at all these games a little bit more closely. Let's head to Nashville right now be joined by a good friend of mine. His name is Jordan to John. He covers the NFL for CV Sports. George has got my man Terry, I'm doing well, Thank you so much for having me on. No. I appreciate you coming on today. Let's start here. What's your initial thoughts on this Steelers and Tennessee game? That's funny because this is one of the very few times in my career where I feel like my heart is genuinely in this game. I really as a fan. I want the Titans to win this match up. But of course, the brain is a lot smarter than the heart. I think the Steelers have a better team. They're better on both sides of the ball entering this matchup, so I think that the Steelers are going to win this game. Especially when you consider that Taylor Lewan, the Titans star left tackle, just tore his A C L. Obviously, the Steelers are very formidable front seven big defense in general, So I think that's going to wreak some havoc on the fight. Both that they get behind only knows how much Derek Henry can kind of wreak havoc just on the game plan itself. So I'm leaning towards Stuart right now, but we would love to see the time to get away. It's funny because this might be the first time that you and I are on same sides actually think Tennessee is going to win this game. Let's start with Pittsburgh. Then since you're picking him to win, I look at their schedule and I just don't see any Goodwin. Yet. They beat the Giants, the Broncos, Houston, Philadelphia and Cleveland, where I look at Tennessee. They got tested last week against Buffalo when they passed that test with flying colors. I just have serious questions about Pittsburgh. That makes me lean towards the Titans in this game. Yeah, I agree. I mean, I think that you could say that about both teams. To be honest with you. I mean, the Titan has caught a clutch fact there was I think they step up when it when it matters most. I mean, they won their first three games by a combined. What? Six points. I think they blew out the bills. Which is your awesome when I think that was more about coming out and prove it to the NFL that you know they have the attitude of like dead versus the world because the whole code without breaking everything. I don't think that they should have even gotten tested against the Texans. I think that's a secondary with exposed doing that. And when you watch the film on the Steelers, Ben Walker's Burger has a lot of wide receivers and tight and just receivers in the receiving game in general work with Chase Claypool and huge James Washington, his new target Eric Abroad, That's what scares me hasn't tightened, faint entering this matchup is that the secondary definitely has that potential to be exposed. So That's what I'm looking forward to watching. On Sunday is Halcon. Tennessee's defense. Step up Falcon at secondary more specifically stepped up to stop this passing attack of the Pittsburgh Steelers. I don't know how they continue to do it, but Pittsburgh always can develop a wide receiver, whether it's Antonio Brown or juice Michu store Now Chase Claypool like you want to talk about. Sometimes it's about situation and where you get drafted and the coaching that surround you. Pittsburgh just always seems to develop these kind of wider. They have another one in shades. Claypool has been fantastic so far this year. Yeah, it really seems like it doesn't And you bring up Chase paper, which is funny because this is a kid in college, like who probably reaches full potential. But he had all the makings of a star wide receiver dish in terms of skill set in his body. So when he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers, that's when everybody said All down like he went to the perfect place in terms of the coaching staff that could development and we've seen and be dangerous not only as a receiver but also in the Russian game, especially in the red Zone. J scrapers legitimate weapon for the Pittsburgh Steelers offense. You know, it's going to elongate Denver office burgers career to have all these weapons will guide him. Right now. I'm talking to my guy Jordan to Johnny with CBS Sports radio. He lives in Nashville. Let's stay with Pittsburgh here before we really move on to talk about the Titans. Do you consider Pittsburgh to be in that Kansas City Baltimore tear as a legit Super Bowl contender? I'm waiting for you. What happened on Sunday? To be honest with you? I mean, I've been thinking about that question myself. But I want to see what happens if they could take down the Titans by phone. Or so then, Yes. I think I'm gonna put them in that category because they do have a top Leavey center in the NFL. That offense has a sonic weapons even if they haven't always been on the same page, all through the early stages in 2020 seasons. If they beat Tennessee Titans, then I think that I'll have him on the borderline of that of that. That level of play, I guess what you will Let's move on to the Tennessee Titans. I really struggle with belief. And Ryan Tannehill like the numbers were there. I don't know if you've seen the stat, but over the last 18 games, he has his many touchdown passes. Patrick Mahomes and as many rushing touchdowns asthma, Holmes, but I don't think anyone considers him to be on that level. What do outsiders sort of do with Ryan Tannehill on the numbers? Where I'm not sure if if a team can eliminate their Henry, I'm not sure of Ryan Tannehill is capable of going out and winning a game against a quality opponent on his own. It's a fascinating conversation because I mean, it's kind of a polarizing the same way. Some people remember Ryan's general for the Miami dolphin that couldn't get the job done. And and some people see a magic flower blossom with the Tennessee Titans and like you, he pointed out some of this The staties put up over the past couple. We're past year and a half. I guess you could say all among the best in the NFL. If you're comparing the Patrick Mahomes. We've seen that before it could you because I don't think he's obviously on the same level of Patrick Mom's, but I do think he's a legitimate starter in the NFL. You know, he's a guy who likes to take chances downfield. He's accurate. He's a leader, which is why I like him. And you know, I sat down with him actually earlier this weekend was kind of asking them just about out of last week for the last year has gone for him just personally. And you know he's out there preparing like his job on the line, even though he doesn't have any competition behind him. Every week. And I think his mentality has played a big part of success. As of late. So when you when it comes to Ryan panel being able to shoulder the load of the Titans, Titans get behind early. I think he has that potential for sure. We've seen it. I mean, the times were down double digits in a second after the Minnesota Vikings. Really others here. They've been down double digits in other games last year where they're gonna come back. 19 0 has put up some good numbers before. I mean, I'm sure you saw with the Chiefs going awry in 10 in the playoffs. To the passing game wasn't exactly the gameplay. But Ryan's channel definitely has potential. So if the Titans get behind early and right hander kind of bring them back on Sunday. Yeah, that'll definitely asking a narrative that right Daniel's a lot better than people think. Can you help me understand Jordan?.

"I don't know what else to say. It's like dude. I I know Eagles fans are there are historically a very tough group of people and good and bad ways. Like right. They're they're very tough. They love either loyal but also if you're not good they're going to call you on it and cars in a snob. Good and Eagles fans have total, you know reason to be calling him out going dude. You gotta be better cuz Carson it's disappointing a bad. He's now the other player that stands out to me from this game. Was Steelers rookie receiver Chase Cape Claypool Chase claims? What's-his-name want to get it right last year if you remember Terry McLaurin was this third round draft pick a receiver Washington, he broke onto the scene and was a surprise he was phenomenal. This year it feels like that kind of guy could be Chase Claypool and on Sunday. It felt like he had his Breakout game where you know, he had seven catches a hundred and ten yards receiving three receiving touchdowns a rushing touchdown. Four. Total touchdowns could have had five actually where I thought he got robbed one of his touchdowns got called back where a Defender just fell over dead and that's not he slipped and fell over and they called offensive pass interference on Chase Claypool. There was no contact there was a tacky bad call in my opinion. I went the guy just fell over that's not Shake people's fault at all. So I don't know and the Eagles also late in the game made a mistake of trying to have it linebacker guard Claypool. That's just a clay do an easy touchdown over the middle. I love that the Steelers use them in the running game. I really like Chase Claypool. I think he might be a really good surprise rookie receiver. is doing really good stuff and what I'm curious about is Can you can you keep it going as a year goes on Kenny continue to keep making a big impact the way he did in week 5 I'm not saying the dude has to have four touchdowns every week. But can you have seven catches 898 yards a touchdown here and there I love a man. He was a second round pick in the NFL draft. He played like a top ten pick on Sunday Chase Claypool. That's a name. We gotta look out for a pay attention to him. He played phenomenal against.

"When you get to this age in life, and for all you have to find ways to win the game, mentally as well, That's why I'm trying to do. Very humble. Ben looks good on there you go. All right, was big Ben's injury last season, perhaps actually, a blessing in the skies for me? Yeah. I mean, in some ways, it gives you perspective. Beatty and It makes you stop thinking about you know your ego And you know how? How great you khun B. Instead, it makes you realize that you really love doing this today. And you know, it doesn't matter how it looks, but winning feels so good. On DH, So it's interesting because one of the stories that came out of last weekend's victory Was big been connecting with Chase Claypool for three touchdowns and ultimately, Chase had four and he was talking about how I was a little bit worried about this was on his local hit. He does every week like I was a little worried about juju. Because because because Chase had such a big day today, and he looked over it. Huges locker and you Jews have funny was laughing. He would smile, and he's like it's this team just feels different than it has in past years. Okay? I mean, there's two aspects here. There's the regeneration of his arm. And and not just the elbow that was repaired, but also the shoulder. I mean, how many bullets is he's fired around the field. Go back to high school, Miami of Ohio over the years played the NFL. He throw the ball a lot, so that's the obvious part. But also you hit on something really important when you are on the brink of possibly losing something that you really truly cherish it something clicks, and there's a recalibration and acknowledgement that Maybe I need to be a little different and process things a little different, and it seems like those aren't just let me say this because it sounds good. Those are very believable words. He's beginning to put the team in front of self. And the team will benefit and as a result, he will benefit So Yeah, I do believe it's helped him out of the question. And it's college football. The eighth raided their cats, Cincinnati bear cats, a Wraith realize they were that high. You know they were set to take on Tulsa on Saturday, but the game was postponed more positive test for the bear Cats with the Pac 12 and the Big 10 playing abbreviated schedules. Do we see a path where non Power five team could make the college football playoff? It's a great question, and it's a great unknown. I have no idea. I need to see what Those other conferences looked like it in 10 plays six.

I know that the dodgers have scratched Clayton Kershaw. Why are the brave starting the lead singer of JETHRO Tull? Tonight. I'm sorry it's not that Ian Anderson much younger different in Anderson. They'll be nobody playing flute rock tonight on the mound I don't think. So aqua lung. Much younger kid. Is Much much younger. First Time. He's ever going to pitch in front of fans tonight. Well, I mean he's Since his previous high school. Become, straight from high school, he didn't play in the minor leagues. Last year I'm sure he is new to the two major league baseball but. Oh So we're both making he in the international league just piggyback good back here on the rich Eisen. Show. Eight four four, two, zero, four, rich number dial now now than. Love this guy not just because he's on hold hearing me say it but I'll just say this he has called in the show during the playoffs before and I'm one of those hosts of a show where, of course, having big name guests on is important but I'm not one of those folks like, okay. You agreed to come on you lost last night I'm GONNA make you call in We we gave this man the out we call them up and said very rarely. Do we send our bookers to to say, Hey, you know if he wants to tap out, he can't but he's calling in and he's also calling a couple of hours after we found out that the starter for his team is scratched tonight the one only Justin Turner of the Los Angeles dodgers how are you? Justin I appreciate your call in. Did you get the message that? Hey, if you wanted to tap out today, you could did you get that message where you're just learning? The out to knock all into that. Yeah I think is is back tightened up a little bit on them and. They're just going to give him an extra day or two to make sure he's he's four, go and ready to go I start. So I'm not too worried about it I think he's GonNa be Alright and he'll just take that extra extra day maybe two and and be good to go okay and then how what what is your role if any with Tony Gone silent tonight getting the start of on absolute short notice what how do you? Handle Your Business to help him handle his justin. Well I. Think it was short notice notices everyone might have a believed I. think he was on standby and knew there was stuff going on so you know Tony He's a he's a former position player. So he's Kinda used to the short notice and playing every day, and he's one of those guys. That's just an interesting guy. I don't think anything really rattled them. He's huge. I don't know what this has to do anything but a huge cat fan. So he just one of those guys that. I don't think this is gonNA. This is gonNA rattle his cage off right now I've got. I've got I've got a poll with this strand right here. So the fact that he's a cat guy makes him perfect for tonight star don't. Think. Know he's got nine lives. He's. Okay. He's so into the cat thing he he he believes in. Katter Day. He wears cat shirts on. Saturdays home the cat convention what My handshake with him as a little cat handshake like licking your pause looking your. You know what he's he's he's unbelievable competitor he's got. Four pitches and we have all the confidence in the Muslim. He's he's eager to get out there and and get on the mound and give us a chance to win. Okay. So Justin if you don't mind, I'm sorry I'm going to keep us. He's ready to pounce and land on all four feet is what you're saying. There you go. That's exactly what I'm saying. Thank you. Wow I didn't. Hi. Thank you serve you know what? You're not the only lead pipe wielding professional on this phone call right now so Scripted everyone misses not script this. I'll tell you this I. I wasn't expecting. He's a cat guy. So he's ready. He suited for this role tonight I wasn't. I wasn't truly expecting that He's perfect for it for all of this. Okay. So You've been through these playoff rodeos before. Fans. Thank anytime. Somebody reaches base that the series is over for your team being down one. Oh, with your guy out tonight in Kershaw obviously have all the confidence in the world of your of your pitcher tonight. But how how do you handle your business with the dodgers being so poised in this moment, Justin. Yeah we just go about it like every other day you know obviously winning game one you know is is always important and obviously that didn't happen for us but by no means. Do we think that we are just going to? You know can't be her way through this postseason and and you know run the table. So we thought that. We know that this braves teams are good baseball team. We know it's going to be a dogfight every night and we're going to. Give it up for tonight and and try to figure out a way to win a ball game tonight. So. In terms of the circumstances last week chatted you're in Seattle going to a game in Seattle just learning about protocols and just getting used to everything what about bubbling up da do you like it better than the way you were going about your business before how do you feel about it just? "Of come in and be able to just dominate from day one. I'm not suggesting that he's not gonna be able to dominate. I am just saying that maybe we need to figure out what are some actual realistic expectations for this kid? First. Thing that I think of. Is there's only one football to go around. You will get receivers the steelers obviously already have and I say receivers I'm talking about anyone that could potentially catch football the Juju Smith Schuster as their number one, the most veteran play receiver on their team, which is crazy to think about. These only in year four, but he is the veteran guy. The Andre Johnson is a potential superstar in the League if he continues on his garbage actually even doing going in the year two. James Washington Kinda car at his own addiction, the offense last year. Eric, Ibran is tight end in a free agent. ACQUISITION IS GONNA demand, some Lopes some targets some receptions in the same will go advance donal. Let's also not forget a guy like Ryan. Switzer people love to knock on Ryan Switzer, they love to hate on Ryan Switzer. Fact of the matter is this Ryan Switzer is a guy that if he is in the slot, be already know that the steelers are going to a have a plan for him in be he has a good connection with Rothlisberger, we already know this. So he's going to demand some target Anson receptions anytime Guy Luke Bryan Switzer gets five targets in the game. There's five potential passes that technically could have been going to someone like Klay Pool. Let's not forget. You have guys like James Carter in running backs coming out of the dock yield who also gonNA getting receptions in kidding on. Dan Rothlisberger has long been known for dropping back to pass things. Breakdown pocket is collapsing. He just turns throws it to the receiver, the running back and this where. The Safety Valve Lady on bell did reflection James Connor desert when he's healthy in next thing, you know you the catch Ron for seven ten, fifteen yards. It was just real easy. Those are also targeted are going to take away from capable so when I won't get these past players. When I look at someone like Mike Wallace. Instead a man could chase playful at those type of numbers play in Sixteen Games thirty, nine receptions seven, hundred, fifty, six yards in six touchdowns that would be incredible. Or could he actually have a lexical bursts type season? Twenty. Two receptions to seventy three yards. No touchdowns. To me I feel like there's an in-between there. In to be honest with you, the in between might be closer to Mike. Wallace, in receptions. Less in Mike Wallace in yards talking about seven, hundred, fifty, six, Wallace might say closer to six hundred. I think the touchdowns are going to be up there. I think that even just after two days padded practice. My goodness you've seen what Chase Klay poll can do in medicine. The guy is six, foot, four, two, hundred, thirty pounds. I'm sorry. He put him on the outside. In the red zone. And you in going up against a defender who has made, he's six feet tall in ways one hundred and eighty pounds soaking wet. That is a mismatch for the steelers. I don't care if he's a rookie I, don't care if that draft profile that I read earlier in the show says it sometimes, he doesn't have the best situation awareness. Malarkey. Talking about Mike Malarkey. Malarkey, that's snatch I. think that this kid in claiborne is going to be able to score touchdowns. I would think that if the yards are not that great. Astounds will be am I expecting a Jericho contrary ten touchdown season now. But a five six absolutely. Absolutely. So he might not have the yards, but he might have the touchdown ultimately when you look at how they're going to spread the football round this year yards might be premium for a lot of players. They might not have to receivers break thousand yard plateau in. That's okay if. Machines dress twelve hundred yards of seating deontay. Johnson nine hundred James Washington was seven hundred and you go down the line and Ibrox might have six. You might have klay with five that's not a bad thing. Opinion. That's a great thing that shows that this offense is versatile in it's not specific to one player. You don't have that attorney around you don't have that might Wallis you don't have any number of players that has been through it. That was clear-cut. One that arrows news going to get local. Has and spread the ball around. That's the best the offense could be. One factor to when you think about production is that's ultimately talking about here. Shohei. Can say whatever he wants. Joe. Haden can make him seem like the next negative on. But we'RE NOT GONNA PRODUCTION WE'RE GONNA. What can you actually do for the steelers on offense to win? In my fear is that the steelers consider him to be more of a situational player. In we'll get there. They'll get the depth chart right now. Jews one DEONTE Johnson to James Washington this year three and I would probably say just from wide receivers claimable comes in it for. Is If you're going to be running to tight and sets with Iran and McDonald. Baragan only have to have certain plays, certain sub packages or situational situational back. Away for the offense where they get clipped one appeal because when you put him on it to take off. This don't see taking Judas misused her or the the off the field that often with a Saab man for Washington. Yeah I could see that. But again, you're everyone's the two tight end sets the soup detail right now. Things you have to be concerned with when trying to predict Chase Klay polls overall potential and is overall the overall expectations for him from production standpoint we know that he should be a red zone thread and that's probably one of those situations I use them. They'll probably use them in the running a bit. Hope. Fingers crossed knock on wood that randy has learned his lesson last eater was act whenever he was concerned eligible. Receiver tight end all they did was run. The ball if capable is out there as in inline tight end or. If they're running the school I love this formation, the bunch formation Marie ev three or four players including tight end on one side. You can run out of it. You can grow vapor, Klay full their they can't have it via tell that they're always going to run out of that specific formation but they're usually running game. He's huge. He's like a tight end. You'd be dumb not to. Mature yardage. If they're gonNA put a receiver route there, you might have see him in there and then obviously they can even use it as a flex side. So some people will say, Oh, my Gosh I could be mortgage heard or X. Madonna gets hurt dance. Madonna. Gates he's a little bit. More of a blocker, he's done a great blocker Lebron's not really a block either. Dick US label in a tight end a flex tight end position in the offense from a passing perspective of fine. Sir Matching ease the concern of some of these fans may be really wondering what's going to happen at the stadium position. Let's wrap this thing up. Wrapping it up I look at chase claiborne ask what kind of production Kenny half is that's what it comes down to. It comes down to him producing in putting points on the board for the Pittsburgh steelers offense what it comes down to. And I think that he's GonNa be able to do that. It might not be at the clip that fans want. There might be games where he kind of disappears that happens every rookie. I'd be some games you're wondering. Where the heck is clay bowl, he just might not have been in the game plan that we. Might have wanted to focus on too tight ends with Iran and McDonald's in really run the football. They might have they might have an inkling that some juice machines to invest in the slot. So they put Johnson, Johnson at your acts in your James Washington at the Z. embrace years our rottenest therefore, chase label might only see the field of a few snaps on offense. He's always going to be there on special teams that feel but on offense, it might be different. So the expectations should be he can make a difference, I think he will make a difference, but let's pump the brakes on the Juju Smith Schuster type. Rookie season. It. Will be lost if you did not gonNa be you're not gonNa hear me. Being upset if that happens I'll grow until the council now. Fans should expect. inflatables dirty really. Really good player in. Really excited to see what he can. Anything Joe Haden comments Tuesday should only add to that excitement should only add to it. When that said ochre getting excited I know I am if you list by Monday showed that was what it was. All about was just excited for this upcoming season. The pads are popping training.

"In there. Now doesn't mean that there aren't any negatives. He was a second round draft pick for a reason. Let's read those cons. Invites a lot of contact while offering plenty of surface area in him. Beating press covered with consistency is area of concern. He lacks ideal agility to truly create separation at the top of routes in yeahs considerably more success when runaways are created for him to gain leverage would not call him a natural hands catcher. Any prefers to a first at guided in his frame, their arrests where he doesn't appear buddy for the balls to arrive. I don't envision much success separating with hard horizontal breaks or working back to the football on hooks in pro routes. have some cons might shrug with man coverage. He might struggle with those quick slams unless as made red zone where he can block. Box on one out. But ultimately I'm reading these in those cons don't seem that glaring. There's nothing that I just read said, oh my gosh this is. A family, the steelers took this guy is their topic sitting down for they they bring down from the best trade is his is his worst trait is separations lash quickness. He has zero red flags in a status chase playful illustrated steady growth rod, his career. Notre Dame peaking as a senior in two thousand and nineteen when he caught sixty six passes. Or One, thousand, thirty, seven yards in thirteen touchdowns. The appeal of clay pool stems from his size catch radius in straight-line speed. He finds success in contested situations in has the ability to out muscle and most out muzzle most defenders with that said separation quickness released technique in inconsistent catching technique are notable items to be concerned with when producting him to the next level. Pool is likely challenged with plenty of contacted the release in the NFL May. For him to continue to showcase his physical demeanor in win in silicon situations capable has limitations to be mindful of. Fulfilling a niche rural as a big slot that by the complementary weapon for offense teacher speed in separation specialists to draw covered from. In provide space for him to work. Grateful is proven special teams performer adding value to his incomplete skill said, that will enable him. At the next level. So they kind of Said, look here's the deal. He miskin play. He can play the pro level. But at the same time, he needs some help to help him see one on one coverage and often off all coverage and they talked about putting him in the slot. And that's up there I mentioned earlier is at one of his versatile trades that he can play the slot that's not foreign to him at all instead of when you can chase play will you're thinking? Okay. How this is GonNa utilize it what the draft profile shows that there's a lot of different ways at this dealers can utilize him in special teams is one of them. For. The six rookies for the steelers to a quick sidebar. Whether, you're talking about Anthony Mcfarland Chase Klay Pool Alex. Smith. Everyone but alignment. and. They had two of them. You're looking at having to be they have to be out of play special teams you have to play special teams is if you can't play special teams, you are limiting your ability to be a game day start. Do you think about someone like Antwon Brooks Antoine. Brooks is not a special teams player or they don't trust him to place teams that that's a concern that would make them think twice about actually having him on the Game Day roster the not GonNa make the team. They might not have him as a game day roster player because he is not even playing special teams, you want your death players to be able to play special teams. so that's something to chase clay will definitely has in his back pocket if he is not only a guy from play the slot. On the outside very run blocker definite meds threat for the big body something that Ben Rothlisberger been requesting easily since Plaxico burress last looking for that big body receiver. Bees also special teams ace. He selfless enough that he's willing to say you know what I will play special teams a will run down here I will make tackles I'm scared I'm going to make plays. It's going to help my team when he did that at Notre Dame folks. Talking, about a kid that's star receiver for his college team in he was still playing specialties. That's not. will you'll find out label is not almond. Into Aig talked about his work. Is Work Ethic shows he is going to stick around for a long time in the a really player. Has. been around this league for a long time. Don't think for a second that he's just buttering the breads to speak. He understands what he sees across the line of scrimmage from. He's been beaten already a couple of times chase pool he admitted that himself in the interview. So, now the question is, what should we expect from played was rookie Back. Into history and we're going to really focus on that..

"Just WANNA keep Tony Brown for all these years. Yeah come on man. Let's just keep it one hundred. I mean it I mean you see is what it is. Let's let's end the show on this topic because what's the what's the B word fifty two. Whose another youtube reset in. He's he's he's all good. He's fine he's a good guy. Seems like he just sparked my. Did you happen to see? Antonio Brown released a photo of himself in a ravens uniform. There's talk because he's trained with his cousin. Marquees and Lamar Jackson. Down in Florida. Would your reaction be if Mr Antonio Brown went to Baltimore? I I'd love it because it be it. A fantastic opportunity for the steelers to really knock him out numerous times per year. It'd be oh I thought you. I thought you were GONNA sell out. I thought you were going to sell out and say man. That'd be a great podcast. You get great numbers on my goal. My Gosh he is completely sold. Y- yeah I would love to see him get you know. I'm not a proponent of violence all the time but sometime and Him getting knocked out. I mean I I mean look I come from an era in the seventies where you know if the steelers didn't win win the fight and so You know I mean I. I have a dad that would say you know. Sometimes you gotTa take a fifteen yard penalty. Sometimes you gotta take one to make a statement in. I hope he would run a shallow cross. I would love that. He run a shallow crossing. Run into that a linebacker on opposite side in he get torn up. I think the steelers would absolutely try to tear up Mr Third and fifth Mr Gummy Richard. I think Tomlin would would have them on fire trying to tear him up on Sunday and it would be great to see. Yeah it's it's definitely one of those situations where people need to remember number one. I in first and foremost is at wherever he goes whoever he signs with if he ever signed with someone you cannot expect him to be on a roster anytime soon he will most likely go onto a commissioner's exempt list until his off-field litigation is resolved. And it's not resolved. It's not even close to resolve so if Baltimore wants to sign this guy and bring that distraction to their their headquarters and by all means go have had her not gonNA do. He's old. Here's a play football for a ton of time now that he gummy richards not coming back. But yes like Jesse Robinson. Said statement hits. I love that. Hashtag statement hits. Okay you want to catch it over the Middle Yes sir. I'll take that fine UTAH. Yeah you take the D. Juju Smith. Schuster regrets the hit on volunteers. Perfect absolutely not. Hell no love Juju. They love juice Buick. Judy came in the locker every day. They're like yeah baby. Oh Yeah Oh yes they were yelling at Karma they were yelling Karma physically. Yelling Karma around was Oh love it. Oh lovely I mean. That's how you endear yourself to your teammates. I mean I think the thing we forget at times is football. It's a hell of a physical game. Manila's Groman out here that try to make physical statements on every single play and trust me. Oh Tomlin will have them try. He won't Greg Robinson him if you guys don't remember Greg Robinson when he was defensive coordinator the Saints Bounty Gate. You know talent. Won't Greg Robinson him? He'll probably do everything about as close to that if that opportunity is there you tell your simple. Hey you get a shot take it. You get a shot take it. I just think that Golic Antonio Brown and I'M GONNA go out on a ledge new limb here and say I don't think he has changed. I know that's A. I'm really stepping out. I'm really stepping out here. I don't think he's changed. We saw what it was like when Rothlisberger went out and he had to play with another quarterback now granted when he went to New England for a short stint there. Explain what Tom Brady. Okay that one. Tv pass yes but when he had of play with guys like Landry Jones. What was his demeanor like? So let's beyond. Certainly Lamar. Jackson is not considered to be the most accurate thrower of the football. Do you think that's fair Lance in that statement? I would say it's fair that that is something. He is improving. He's improving on it. I'm not going to disagree with you. But he's not considered the most accurate throw the ball. And what do you think? Antonio Brown's reaction would be if he's deep down the field and Lamar toxin runs. He's GonNa get fed up the water. Cooler deduct water coolers or get it. Yeah so I just think that. There's a lot of steeler fans that saw that image. Now all my gosh please. Don't there's so many layers to this? Just calm down eleven it. What's the be work? Say if you are buddy hey that that is true that those are Ashtec facts and what it. Mvp get them one more game in round facts one more game also faxes I can say Never a guy who's never won a playoff game. Mvp Lamar Jackson facts had sex facts. But Yeah Tom would give them the head. Not I mean you were coach Jeff a head coach when you give the guy the yeah you give him the head nod like I'm not going to say it but there were players on my team that I literally be able to go up to him. Say Hey see that guy there. That's killing us. Take care of it and you'd know they get a penalty. I knew it was common and they come to feel the good job. We'll pound it. It's horrible when I say that I was like that. But at the same. Token Dawson water owning those water on that can put that fire out. Okay I guys coach I got you. I got you coach. Let me go and do the job. He was normally a backup guy. Anyways data he Tehran. He'd get the hit. He gets tossed her putting the box. All right. We'll take it. We'll play man now. That's fine. I mean that's what football is in so if that ever came up Antonio going to see your absolute all right very good show topics today. It's kind of crazy..

"Twenty eight point nine times against the steelers or turning the ball over so teams ran a lot against the steelers. So it'd be interesting to see if the Oracle wants to dive into that as we punt the football Scacchi Sued York. This is this is all a part of football being the ultimate team game. Roberts said it and I was going to add this to but I'll put his on his message on the screen here. He's at our defense can get better buyer offense keeping the ball longer not just keeping the ball longer. Robert but scoring touch downs. You go against a team like Baltimore. He just loves to run the ball so much in a in a variety of ways including with their quarterback. If you are up by fourteen points you no longer have the option of just running the ball at will. You're going to have to put the ball in the air to get back. That's what they missed in two thousand. Nineteen those two thousand defenses. Maybe even two thousand eight. Yeah absolutely They had a fantastic run of defense from about two thousand eight to probably around two thousand twelve. I mean they played some great football. So eight takes you to championship. Ten takes you to the loss against the packers in the Super Bowl in twelve. Takes you a couple of years past that so you still had a blend of? Tomlin guys in cower guys on that defense they play some really good defense but like I've said it before on his show I think defense is your this secondary definitely the best secondary they've had since. Oh Eight? I think it's actually the Best Secondary Hannity Thomas. And because of that. And because of the sack numbers that they get they get every year in three straight years of fifty plus sacks. "Mike Evans Brandin Cooks De'andre Hopkins Adams. Dealin Jarvis. Let okay this is. This is now entering. Juju territory in my opinion okay. So you're saying Juju is between like Andrey Hopkins is sixteen. So you're saying the sweet spot is in there because a fourteen million you're talking about Alan Robinson A. T. Y. Hilton range. You're not going to save a average. I mean how you structure the contract in terms of how the salary cap hit works out saying no betting on my client. I'M GONNA I'm judy. She WanNa bet on himself because right now his stock has never been lower but if he has a good year like you mentioned he can demand a year to put me in that upper echelon of wide receivers injured. That's that's where you know. In theory it makes sense for the steelers to try and make a deal now but from a financial standpoint for the client I e Juju Smith Schuster. It's it's not a smart move you WanNa say I wanNA wait to bring this full circle? I think that we both be is an insurance policy. If you lose Juju after this year. They're they're not going to be decimated the wider situation where. Let's say you were stuck with lot less in the cupboard. Put it that way also putting yourself out there. If you get banged up again of you all of a sudden you're hurt you don't produce so yes you could elevate if that happens. They don't WanNa see that happen. Especially if it's an injury plagued thing. They want their players to be healthy. They want their more than the lodge at said. Jews in the range of eleven in Around that range and it's weird here when you look at. The average sat at eleven million mark in terms of average Larry Fitzgerald Keenan Allen. Interrail Williams. I'll give you one or two nine below that tyler boy in guarantee you if you approach. Juju would attend point seven five per average deal like tyler in Robbie Anderson at ten million Jews going to get paid more than all those players so I don't think I don't think I would say fourteen. Fourteen is his range. In my opinion fourteen. Grooving fourteen hundred students have to weigh keeping deontay Johnson Juju Washington clay with that unit works. Well there is a price to keeping it together. Then again you got. I onic digby last. Two years in the steelers are in full. Go mode trying to get that seven championship and I think that will weigh in jujubes favor when it comes to a conduct bring in some new dude. I don't WanNa rock with these three young so we can go out and try to get this with a bang. I get my seven. I mean we can get myself academically. Can you imagine the marketing seven for seven? Ben Rothlisberger get seven championship in his last year. He can't write that script better. All right let's change it up a little bit. Thirty nine ball and cookie gives us five dollars in the tip jar appreciate Daddy said. Would you say the steelers last? Two off seasons were secretly geared towards bolstering the special teams units. And how do you think they've done in that department? Why I know that something. That is a common thread between land's end myself throughout the last few seasons done the post game show is been the teams has been. It's been bad it was bad in two thousand eighteen every kick it was. It's always bad with Jordan Berry putting the football coverage units. I don't know if they're drafts. Have BEEN GEARED TOWARDS IT? I think that then drafting players that have proven to be commodities on special teams is an added bonus to the player if that makes sense. I don't think that they're they're drafting. You Know Alex High Smith in the third round as an edge rusher and saying well. It doesn't pay now. He's GonNa be a good special teams guy. No they're saying that he is a really could have a potential to be a really good edge. Rusher he could be a backup in that scenario and he's also a very capable player on special teams saying what Chase Klay Pool who we just talked about. He's a big body fast wide receiver. Who can really be bad missing? Piece of the puzzle offensively he also likes to play special teams. He registered a bunch of tackles at Notre Dame on special teams. I think the dad is like just another feather in the cap for a prospect. You AGREE OR DISAGREE LANCE YOUNG AGREE. I kind of agree and disagree Outstay this if you're if they draft you as a defensive player let's say prior to the fourth round your first second or third round pick and your contribution ends up being special teams. That wasn't their intent. Yeah they're they're intent was for you to have a significant impact in the starting eleven or sub package football you know special teams contribution is sort of like when you go to a restaurant. You've been eating number five for years. They run out of it and you have to order number seven and number seven is really good and you're like wow foul something else that. I'd like to eat a disaster on your number. Seven is what you get special teams player if you're a top draft pick if you're a lowered round draft pick. Let's say fifth to seven out put forth Canada as that Mendosa Line. If you become a Tyler Medicaid Draft Pick in you become a special teams as you can get contributions. They're they're solid with that but I don't think they're drafting Tyler Medicaid. Which with the thought that? He's going to be their special teams. Ace date like for him to contribute in the actual bass or sub package defense. So it's kind of a yes and a no but no I don't think they go out and look for special teams unless they're taking a specialist. I mean I mean that's the only time I think when you can guarantee take a special teams player. Yeah the other talking point that we wanted to get to you. Today is something you texted me as well in. This is a tough question. In my opinion it is. Where can the steelers twenty twenty defense improve? I think we're all going to admit that. It's a pretty elite group. It's a group that has high expectations put on heading into the new season. Land if you were someone that is going to pinpoint one area. Where this team can get better. It used to be the same adage. They used to always be turnover. The more turnovers led the NFL turnovers last year. So really can't go that way. Where do you think this defense can improve heading into next season? And Luckily I've done a chart for this and let me say this probably GonNa Piss off folks like you've ever shopped away from probably going to soft folks that team up north the one that no longer has the alleged goat had the best defense in the national football league last year. I think by far that defense was elite. They were elite passing defense. They were lied creating turnovers. They were an elite defense. They did not go far in the playoffs. They got beat in the first round. But I think that defense was elite. I think the steelers defense is in the same conversation with that defense talking about the Patriots that team North. You're not if you're unfamiliar with the show. I hate to say the Patriots but I'm talking about that team north. Who USED TO. Have Tom Brady. Who's now going to be a buck? And he's GonNa get bucked when he's planning for the bucks but anyway I think it's NFL. Teams opponents passing yards or touchdowns per game the steelers ranked fourteenth. They gave up about one. And a half touchdown passes per game now if you look at that compared to some other defenses that. I think we're really good so I think New England was really good on defense said the best Defense Buffalo New England ranked one in that Category Buffalo was to Baltimore Three Chicago for Green Bay five Seattle six Denver Seven Carolina Eight Dallas Nine. The chargers ten Kansas City. Eleven Jacksonville Minnesota. Then you had the steelers. The steelers were middle of the road. In terms of giving up touchdown passes per game and I found that step really surprising because I think the strength that is defense is their secondary now. One point four is a ton but we are talking about a defense. That is as good as it is. And you're looking for small areas of improvement. I think that's a small area of improve. Now if you compare that number to the worst defense in Football Miami gave up two and a half touchdown passes per game. So it's not like teams are given up four five on average but I still think that's a room for improvement for this defense. Is the number of touchdown passes the average number of Touchdown passes that they give per year their team stats defense. Stats in front of you right now. I have a couple of them. Probably not all. GimMe Gimme one of the one area that I was looking at. What was Rushing yards per game in yards per carry surrendered on average. I guess when I think back to the early two thousand defenses and that's as close to dominant his. I've seen steelers defense in my lifetime. I was not alive for the seventy steelers. The steel curtain that just completely dominated but for some reason I feel like if they were. They could do a better job suffocating. The run and especially in a division with. We've talked about it before. Maybe some of the mess the best ball carriers in the with Lamar Jackson Ingram. Obviously they got. Jk Dobbins You also have Nick Chubb. Kareem HUNT UP IN CLEVELAND Mixing in Cincinnati It's it's a situation where I'm not sure if the numbers really match up with my perception and that could definitely be the case but when I think back to those elite to thousands defenses. They were a team that never gave up. One hundred yards rushing. They if you're going to beat us it's going to be on our terms we're going to dictate what you do in. That's when I think about elite defenses. That's what I think of and I'm not sure that Louis in two thousand nineteen that they had that type of defense. There's numbers lands by chance. So the opponent's rushing yards per game against the steelers defense. The steelers were fourteenth. They gave up a hundred and nine point six per game in their last three games. They gave up a hundred and forty six per game and to your point. I think you saw how Baltimore ran the ball against them in the last game of the season and Baltimore pretty much had their way on the ground against the steelers defense. Yeah when I think about this defense in where are where's their strength. You just said it secondary's one absolutely pass Russia's the other if they can a team like Baltimore which let's be honest there now the the litmus test in the AFC north they won at the last two years they were the number one seed heading into the playoffs. I mean that's natural. That's not anything. That's that's not a cut on the steelers. That's just fact if you can force third and longs on that team you got 'em where you want him. You know what I mean. And so being able to stifle the run on early downs in not give whether it's Baker Mayfield whether it's Joe borough whether it's Lamar Jackson not giving them third and manageable is huge. I mean it's it's it's enormous. And that's when the defense can in their ears back Cam Hayward steph onto a T. J. Watt budgie pre and aken wreak havoc in the backfield. That's where I feel if I'm answering the question that you pose. How can the steelers defense get better? Steininger run more stop. The run may teams beach. You on your terms not the other way round. Here's an interesting point. Maybe we should punt this topic more cells so the Oracle when the Stack Geek. Next week hint hint pawn delve into this a little deeper. Here's an interesting thing. Although they were fourteenth in the yards per game stat they were third in yards per rush attempt at three point eight and I think that speaks to how good they were as a secondary and how good they were in terms of cash rush because you might WanNa pick your poison with that defense by running the ball. A lot as opposed to You know trying to air it out and put your put your off at risk of getting the ball intercepted and or your quarterback get sacked so the rushing yards might be a little bit artificial just because the rushing attempts are really high and I can give you the rushing attempts per game against the defense and.
