"Thing. Even Justin brew hunter, who's had an incredible career in Hall of Famer and made a ton of money and has everything you could want in a baseball career, except pitching well in the World Series, I guess. And that was a pretty big but so now he has that too or pitching well enough at least. So it's nice that we don't have to talk about Jessica Verde in the World Series and it doesn't have to be the narrative going into the postseason. I think we mentioned this on the live stream that we didn't necessarily have the same sort of sympathy or feeling for Verlander struggle in the World Series that we did for Clayton Kershaw and the postseason and I don't think it's been as big a part of the Justin Verlander story as it has been for Kershaw because it's just it hasn't lasted as long or it hasn't been a talking point as long as he's been very good in the postseason prior to the World Series so it's just a smaller sample and he's won a World Series and so it wasn't like as big a monkey on the back but it was becoming a bigger one. So now it's off there and then it's nice for him and for the Astros and the rest of the game it was just, it was exciting. There were a fair number of base runners in this game like there were threats there were rallies. I think there were 15 combined hits and 8 combined walks and so there were a lot of leadoff guys getting on in the late innings and then just a lot of stranded runners and not great production with runners in scoring position. And so there weren't a lot of really relaxing innings throughout and there were some great threats and some great defensive plays and I guess it came down there were a couple of pretty pivotal plays at first base. One involving one Reese Hoskins, which for those of you who are not in the playoff live stream Meg was going in on Reese Hoskins and say defensive first baseman before you were talking at some length about your notes, you've said that you have no notes for the Phillies, but specifically for Reese Haskins. I have defense. You have some notes. Yeah, I mean, it's just, you know, you asked me. You're like, is your issue with this with its footwork there? And I was like, yeah, and I don't like the way you scoop the ball. I just think that it's, you know, he's not good over there. Is the thing. And even when he manages, it doesn't look easy, right? It never looks smooth, you're worried the whole time. So, you know, he's not the only player on the Phillies, who's defense we could nitpick. He is the only one who plays first base, which, you know, again, I think being a first baseman is hard, despite all the jokes we make on it, but on a relative basis, you're like, that one, surely you can lock that down. And sometimes he does, and sometimes he doesn't, Ben. Sometimes he really does not. So yeah, I had some notes on that. We also talked about the TV series, the cleaning lady. So it was a wide ranging conversation because we were all confused by that one, but a lot of Fox promos for that. We had to do some deep dives. What is she doing? What is the purpose of this show? It's more complicated than you would ever have. I will say that. We don't have to get into it here. You can do your own research, but we did some and we're still kind of flummoxed. It sounds like it's several shows. But Hoskins, this is the 8th inning. It's first and third. It's nobody out. And Alvarez has up and he just pulls a couple hopper down the line. And Hoskins, you know, he's trying to keep the game with a one run margin. And he charged the ball and he wanted to throw home and try to get Altuve and it wasn't a bad decision. And it was okay to try to do that, but it looked like he took his eye off the ball and he was looking at Altuve and home plate more so than making sure he actually gloved the thing and it kicked off his glove and yeah and I don't know that he would have necessarily gotten Altuve anyway, but it didn't look great and then really the opposite happened because same inning 8th inning and remember yui goriel out of the game at this point. And so Trey Mancini is at first base for Houston having not played. I believe a defensive inning for the Astros all postseason a lot. Like a month. He hadn't played a defensive inning and like a month. Yeah, so the old cliche about the ball will find you right. And so here he is and schwarber just smokes one. What a time. At least at the very least would have tied the game, if not allowed them to pull ahead. Right. Yeah. Mancini was holding Segura on first and said he was over there. He was right there. Yep, and he stopped the ball and did that thread and schwarber looked quite disappointed and curry else a good field or two, so he may very well have made the same play if he had been out there, but it was a tough play and a game saving play and not the only game saving defensive play because the even more notable one for Houston was chas McCormick. Jazz McCormick. You would not necessarily think of as prototypical center Fielder. I mean, he wasn't always the asters, center Fielder. He played more in the corners than he did in center, but he just kept kind of finding his way to center and other people didn't hit. And so you stick McCormick out there and man, he was the right person at the right time because real Muto just crushed a ball that looked like it was going to be off the wall in the gap in the 9th and then the Phillies really would have been set up. McCormick just made a really nice play on it and Joshi and mention in his piece that McCormick was one of the best outfielders going back on balls and also one of the best outfielders going to his left and Joe somehow resisted the JFK Seinfeld back into the left reference here, but I will not resist.

"Looking for answers. Former homers in the bottom of the first to weed off that. You think the Phillies are like, oh, here we go. Here we go again. Here we go again. But you just keep on keeping on. And, you know, she said, I always had to give up that one run. That one run of Hoskins gets that ground ball. Robertson gets that ground ball with first and third and Hoskins has got to feel it quick because Altuve is the guy on third. You better act fast, man. Exactly. So the ball goes off his glove and that third run was the difference is certainly when JT real Muto. Comes up in the 9th inning and takes Presley just deep to right center field and just smoked it and chas McCormick makes the catch of his life game 5 of the World Series which a dream of right? Reaches up makes the grab and sure enough with assuming Presley would have still maybe hit Harper anyway trying to bury that breaking pitch right inside. Right inside on Harper would have hit him that would have been a totally different ball accident but when he caught that ball I'm like that's it. It's over. Yeah. But here's where here's where they really went to, okay? Dusty, freaking baker. The manager of the Houston Astros in this era in this era of, okay, well, third time through the order picture might not be as good as numbers against that guy under this roof under this celestial moon, you know, and the era of analytics. When managers are supposed to push the buttons exactly when they're told to push the buttons pregame in some sort of hotel conference room with a PowerPoint presentation to tell the manager in the 6th inning 5th inning. This happens. That's what you've got to do because the numbers support it. And it gives us a better chance to win blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. No gut, no feel no nothing anymore. How many times have we heard it? Right? Turn it into World Series. Nonstop. So Verlander, you mentioned, gave up that home run of schwarber. And he got deep into pitch count. Yeah. Deep into pitch counts. And he's still out there in a 6 inning, isn't he? Kind of shocking. Well, two one game. Not and especially since he's never unbelievably, that's his first World Series win last night. It's a weird stat. Right? First ballot is first balancing me. And it's funny. Myself included. Clayton Kershaw for supposedly not being a gamer and playoffs and here's Verlander. Until last night. With the high air a, you know, doesn't take the same amount of heat. So dusty baker. Dusty baker was asked after the game. About his process and keeping Verlander in. God bless this man. This is it. Roll it. You know, it was a battle, and that's what he said. I mean, he emptied the tank early and his pitch count got high with it. I mean, that was as far as we thought we should take him. And we know we held the lead for him. You know, like he, you know, he was in trouble. There are a couple of times and I remember my teammate Tommy John always told me that a good pitcher can get out of trouble twice and a great pitcher three times and social picture maybe one time. And so that was I could hear Tommy John talking to me. You know, during the game and sometime you call upon people that you've played with or talked to in the past to deal with the president. So for a certain generation, when he says he hears Tommy John talking to him, dusty is not hearing advice from his underwear, okay? He's talking about the great picture. From back in the day and God, do I love hearing that? Take your analytics, not that they're totally useless. They are useful. I don't want to hear it from the analytics crowd. Daryl, if you're out there, or good buddy, Daryl morey. He's the barbarian at that gate, man. He's standing on that wall. Dusty said shine it up real nice. Turn it sideways. So here you go, man. He's here and Tommy John's voice in his head and he's just like, I love that. Good pitcher can get into trouble twice, a great picture at three times. You have a good picture there. And straight he does. Let him do it. When? Dusty goes in the hall. And if the Astros as expected, pull off one of the next two games. Even if they don't, dusty should go in the hall fame. I believe. Yeah, we went over this yesterday. Exactly, right? But instead of his plaque going over his career, that quote, verbatim should be on his plaque. That's interesting. On his plaque. In the 21st century, in 2022, in a World Series game 5, which, as you know, there's only two of such games, decisive or pivotal, it was pivotal last night, series pivots with whoever wins in that direction. He went gut feel experience, feel experience. GFE. He went GFE. New phrase, gut feel experience. What? I was going to tell me that stands for something else and I just walked into it and I had no idea because I'm a 53 year old man with a lot of itch going on. Kevin cash is threw a brick through his TV. I watched this conversation. I mean, he might feel he wants to go GFE too. And he just can't or he won't, or whatever. And dusty's out of, you know what's to give? It's the middle initial of what I've just said. Dave Roberts with the binder on Facebook. Hey, you know what, man, I bet you he wants to go GFE more than he does too. All managers do. Yeah. Way to go dusty. I heard that. I'm like, I got to play that for the audience, and I just did. I feel good about it. Well done. Thank you. Good. Our number two, tyreek hill coming up. The author of, am I reading this right? Am I reading this right? No, I think it's the way I will ask him an hour number two to drop it. What's more likely also still coming out? Boom. Good games, rich. Oh, that's right. My hands are on fire right now. What is your 7 and one in the last two weeks? Look at you. Watch out now. Look at you. We have to hook this year, getting mad money off the books. Now, with my 11 and 9 year olds to your right, how would you explain to them what sneaky good games that segment? Do you guys like money? Stop see. Move over a little bit to your move over, move over to closer to your brother. Move over closer to your brother. Move over closer to your brother. There you go. There she is. All right, so go ahead. Is that really how you would explain it to them? I give you picks to win money. Oh my goodness. This is not what's good. It's not that we can't do this. How about this? Do you guys like cookies? Oh my God, there you go. Yeah, you like cookies. So I'm gonna give you a way to take the cookies that you have and then suddenly you have more of them. There you go.

"Run, so then you end up using trevino and then montauk had he had to pitch in like a month. And it's still only the game was still obviously in hand, it was three to one at the time. I don't know. No, and I guess it doesn't matter if the offense is going to strike out 17 times. And it is just a frustrating watch. It's just a frustrating watch in this day and age, like the Yankees are the personification of what the three outcomes walk, strike out, home run, and they somehow got past the guardians who are the antithesis, the antithesis of that, but the Astros appear to be the perfect blend of young veteran and contact hitters and also home run hitters and strong armed relievers bulldog starters who are going to the Hall of Fame. They seem to be and if Presley can throw strikes like he did last night out of the pen. I don't know how you beat the Astros. I don't know how you beat him. You know? Yeah. Right now. Well, you know, the snaps out of what you just described was perfect. 17 strikeout Yankees, two strikeouts by the Astros. If you it prior to that game, game two in Houston go back to New York. You said Altuve, you're down for it. Bregman and Tucker go over. Right. Would you take in your chances on that one? I mean, certainly getting the lead first, Bader goes yard first. They draw first blood too. I decided for that. Right. And you got chase McCormick. You know, this is where you start digging into like truly the marathon and the depth of rosters. And it's no longer the vaguely grocery. It's a 100% how you utilize your 40 men, but you have chas McCormick who went to the baseball powerhouse of millerville college in millerville Pennsylvania. And I don't mean any disrespect to that at all. I promise you, when I say that. But that is a very, very high praise to an organization that develops players. I mean, did they not realize what they had in Jeremy Pena, their short stop? What a stud this guy is. You know, you don't overpay on Correa because you got a guy like, Jeremy paying you behind him. He's going to be a legit star of this kid. Yeah. He already is. So that's what I'm saying. It's just I'll even throw it open to the Phillies and the Padres. Again, I know the Yankees can hit home runs and maybe put something together over the next if they do play 6 more games like they did in the first 80 this year. I don't know. I don't see it quite frankly. I just throw it open to you. Who is best equipped to beat the Astros out of the other teams that are still left in this tournament outlier? Wow. So I mean, you got the one two seat in the American League as we all thought would have played out that way. I know the Yankees had to go 5 against the Indians. You have seed 5 and 6, right? The 5th and 16 in the Phillies and the Padres. Nobody predicted this. Nobody, maybe outside of Phillies, Philadelphia and San Diego. But the Padres for them to go through the mets and then the Dodgers pretty handedly, really. And then the Phillies as well getting through the braves after the Cardinals. I like the Philly bullpen, but what haters doing right now, the last 8 batteries he's faced. He's back to the Milwaukee brewer. Josh hader that's just so devastating. He struck out the last 8 guys his face. I mean, it's like Bugs Bunny stuff. So between what hater, if you extend him to the occasional two innings and I'd like the right hand to Robert Suarez in front of him as well as Nick Martinez, I think there's guys that bone Mel can use and then of course you have Darvish and smell up front. I think Musk wrote, you got to give him the edge tonight over ranger Suarez of the Phillies. But with that said, I don't know, man. I think Philadelphia is going to be rocking crazy. And I also like, I like what's behind their guys. I mean, alvarado, when he's on, I mean, the guy he's also a 102 guy. Sir Anthony Dominguez is a so I think they're evenly matched. I really do. I really do. We'll see what happens in this game three, but I think probably my gut tells me because you haven't really seen all cylinders of San Diego with their top of the lineup. Certainly with Soto and bell, I think there's more there there. So probably the Padres might match up better with well, we'll see what happens. We'll see what happens. Like I said, yanks can win tonight and then all of a sudden things turn around and they go to The Bronx and we'll see what happens. It could be a total up in the air, but the Yankees have just got to make contact. And it just seems they don't care. It's just swing and if you're connect, great. And judges judges has not been that way all season long. I know that the guardians got them to strike out quite a bit. But he's been the perfect Yankee. Power and contact, sure he strikes out a lot, but it just seems nobody else just can make consistent enough contact and you're just not going to you're not going to baseball games. If you can't hit. It becomes striking. So what you're describing is really, really excellent with where the game has gone. And let's see what happens with the shift in the clock and all of those stuff. Maybe we get maybe we get guys that will actually think about more about putting the ball in play. When there's a runner and third base and less than two outs, I don't care if you dribble a little number to the first base. That's your intention not to give an a swing to get villa off the bat in a certain launch angle to hit it really far. I think we've lost that with the three run Homer, it turns the game around. You can go one for four, but your last about you hit it to run Jack, you strike out three times. You had a good night. I don't see it as a good night. I like what the Indians are all about. The Astros is you just alluded to. They're a good balance of both. Of power and also put the ball in play. Derek, that was my question for the last one for you. Is how you think it will, in fact, change the pitch clock moving things along and the shift, which I've despised it. I really have despised it. And I know that the purists or folks who my buddy KO is talking about the shift has been around since Grover Cleveland, the actual not the pitcher, but the president. That's how long it's been around. I have had enough of watching guys who all can throw 100 and their off speed pitches are now sometimes even approaching 100, right?

"chas mccormick" Discussed on The Sean Salisbury Show

"Man handle grave is just gross and the fact that he's versatile in any he can pick so you can sort of just plug him in to any spot where the middle lineup is coming. You know after the sixth inning on Yeah it looks pretty good right now and that's going to help this The starting rotation get out of this little funk quickly because they know if they could battle through and give you know five preferably six innings as opposed to seven It gives them a little bit of leeway to to use their pitches Little more carefully and just make sure that they can get get those five or six but yeah with the way stanek spent throwing the ball and graven presley and then me on top of that i. It looks pretty strong. Seven eight nine. Do you trust if i said who would you have trusted more. Come postseason time chas mccormick or miles straw. What would be your answer who I think mile straw would have a little bit more consistent Back to all i. I don't think there's going to be as much swing and miss. I think chaz mccormack has the potential to go into a funk against you know number ones and number twos in the starting rotation and and have some games where he just you know. Sort of a non factor but he he does bring the power elements. So yeah. I think. I think i would. I would have had a little more trust in the consistency of mouths job. But there's also a chance to champa. Mccormack goes out there and hit you big home run. That wins a game. So you know for for me. It's sort of You know peaking poison But yeah it's it's it's definitely a different story when you talk about their contact skills moving into the postseason right here we are what. Mc twenty two or twenty three games over five hundred twenty three right. Is it twenty one or twenty twenty twenty two or twenty three twenty two twenty two games over five hundred all right brian at twenty two games over five hundred have they played their best baseball yet. I think i bought a consistent basis. We see game consistent basis. Yeah no no no no and not only have. They not played their best. They've not. They've not very often been in a position to do. So because they've battled through so many injuries this year We've seen glimpses of it when they get really hot. What they look like at their bashed but in terms of being at full strength and have everybody sort of playing. Well no and. I think right now where they're at is sort of pretty far from it. They're kinda battling right now with the with the injuries and couple skies in many swamps So no i. I don't think we've seen it. I think if bregman can get healthy here shortly and or tedious. He's ramping up. I think they could go into a situation where they're getting hot and sort of peaking and we're seeing their best baseball in the september Which would be really nice thing for them to to be playing their best baseball end of the. They're always opinionated and transparent. So let's play a little word association game truth serum and i'm gonna mention a player you tell me what you think about them at this point season wise and moving for just an over censor to on how you feel about them and this team and their role with the team or their season kyle tucker Important i think a lot more important than we've given him credit for Even with the slow start if you look at his numbers where he's at now from the season standpoint..

Heavy t on a throwback thursday and we always bring on bryan bogus civic on thursdays and welcome him in the first round pick. major league. Baseball player played here with the astros joins us here on sports. Talk seven ninety brian. Welcome in watching that first inning yesterday and still trying to get from birth through one while even though the runs i mean run. Stay down a lot of pitches in the first. Anybody still finds a way to come out pitching what turned out to be a pretty damn good gem for him but how do you get through the psychological part of that one inning that keeps rearing its head for him. Yeah it's it's still kinda out there And the reason he gets through so many of those innings is because of the pure stuff right. He can always fall back on that. It doesn't matter what kind of situation he gets himself into. When you've got that kind of movement and that kind of stuff you you can get out of it. But he's got to get more consistent with his release point especially on his fastball. He's got such big movement on his fastball. That you know if you get a little unpredictable at times on where it's going to end up and when you When you throw different released points on top of that it makes it even more difficult so the quicker lock into that and recognize like my mechanics are breaking down a little bit my arms dropping a little bit. My my fastball. Is running a little bit more than i wanted to. As opposed to thinking and correct that he can keep it from snowballing on which is what he was really able to do so well last year that you know it hasn't been as good this year but this is certainly not twenty nineteen twenty twenty proper. But it's not it's certainly not twenty nineteen and The good parties that he has been able to minimize when he's gotten into those situation hasn't completely avoided him but he is. He is minimizing that pretty. Well think about if. I had to ask you this question. Three months ago you would have said now think about it. What's the strength of the team. Today it looks like the back edge of man handle grave is just gross and the fact that he's versatile in any he can pick so you can sort of just plugging in to any spot. Where the middle of the lineup is mean. You know after the sixth inning on Yeah it looks pretty good right now and and that's going to help this The starting rotation get out of this little funk quickly because they know if they could battle through and give you know five preferably six good innings as opposed to seven It gives them a little bit of you. Way to to use their pitches a little more carefully and just make sure that they can get get those five or six but yeah with the way stanek spent throwing the ball and graven presley. And then you me on top of that. It looks pretty strong. Seven eight nine. Do you trust if i said who would you have trusted more. Come postseason time chas mccormick or miles straw. What would be your answer who I think miles straw would have a little bit more insistent Back to all. I don't think there's going to be as much i think. Chess mccormack has the potential to go into a funk against you know number one number two in the starting rotation and have some games where he just you know is sort of a actor but he does bring the power elements so yeah. I think i think i would. I would have had a little more trust in the consistency of my house job. But there's also a mccormack goes out there and hits you big home. Run that lindsey game so you know for for me. It's sort of You know peaking poison But yeah it's it's it's definitely a different story when you talk about their Contact skills moving into the postseason right here. We are what. Mc twenty two twenty three games over five hundred twenty. Three right is a twenty one or twenty twenty twenty two or twenty three twenty two twenty two games over five hundred. Brian had twenty two games over five. Hundred have they played their best baseball yet. I think i want a consistent basis gain on a consistent basis. Yeah no no no no and not only have. They not played their best. They've they've not very often being in a position to do so because they battled through so many injuries this year. We've seen glimpses of it when they get really hot what they look at their best but in terms of being at full strength and have everybody sort of playing. Well no and i think right now where they're at is sort of pretty far from it. They're kind of battling right now with the with the injuries. And couple skies in many swamps So no. I don't think we've seen i think if bregman can get healthy here shortly and or keady looks like he's ramping up. I think they could go into a situation where they're getting hot and sort of peaking and we're seeing their best baseball in the september Which would be really nice thing for them to be playing their best baseball end the they're always opinionated and transparent so let's play a little word association game truth serum and i'm on mentioned a player you tell me what you think about them at this point season wise and moving for just an overall or two on how you feel about them and this team and their role with the team or their season kyle tucker Important i think a lot more important than we've given him credit for Even with a slow start if you look at his numbers where he's at now from a season standpoint he's on par with everybody and you can make the case that he's been as valuable a hitter. Anybody in that lineup. So now moving forward. They're going to need him down the stretch and they're going to need him in the in the postseason and if you look beyond this season he's the guy that you know you you build up to that new position player core around he. He's the guy lead. Messiahs versatility is Pretty well unmatched in based on the. He's he's sort of for me. Become that guy that marmon. Gonzales was at one point with ben. Zobrist was at one point that the best sort of utility guy who's in everyday guy was. I mean it's so obvious. How much of an upgrade he is when placing Rebel garcia and no knock on rebel garcia. He's just not a lead misty. As you realize how much closer lead misdee- as is choose the bregman korea than he is to what you would consider a backup guy. So he's he's going to be a guy who they're finding ways to get him into the lineup in the play offs cross graham..

"Get deeper into the games. They need to step up to game lead over oakland. that's that lead that they had has diminished in oakland praying. Pretty decent Baseball right now. Steve without a rizzi doesn't he have to treat this next start like it's a world series game for him moving forward. I'm sure he is. Yeah you know. And i've i've been through what he's going through many times in my career top you know and you're just you're working yourself up in those four or five days leading up to that next. Start trying to put everything behind you. Bring something out of your bullpen session. Something positive out of there and work in yourself up mentally to be positive as you can so the first inning is gonna mean a lot for odor as as next game to continue what he's been working on getting to that point But it's really tough. It's it's it's a mental Grind to try to be where you want to be and you're trying to fix something at the same time. So i'm sure he was working on something and then his my said okay. That was it you know. And you're you're just hoping he corrects the right thing and and gets off on a better footing. his next game but He needs step up right now. He's the weekly no doubt. Hey steven real quick. I even asked you this or if we if we talked about this but it was mile straw. Were you surprised at all. They moved him or are you not glad but was it the best thing for them to to clear up space for some other guys. You know what. I mean i. I don't know how the the negotiations went down a little bit surprised. Yeah i would say as somebody who is Getting about seventy five or eighty percent of the starts in center centerfield to trade him for a relief pitcher. I guess i. I would say that but it was a situation where james fell and i'm sure the guys that he worked when they they looked at the trade felt like may ton- With somebody that they probably targeted and felt like it was undervalued and felt like to get him. They had to get rid of somebody that was going to hurt. But it was part of a surplus they felt like when you have a surplus at one position. I've been you have an opportunity to go better your team with somebody like a make on the team. If you remember a two weeks ago everybody was crying about the bullpen. They need help and they did. They needed some guys who could go at least just throw strikes but Yeah they felt. Like with. The emergence of jake myers and how well cha chas mccormick was playing that they had a surplus at centerfield position and and miles is the guy that was going to get him a pitcher they they needed so a little surprised that it was their main starter. But at the same time. I think Mccormick is certainly capable of holding down. Yup and what was perceived weakness not just perceived was reality in the bullpen is now becoming a strength. Which is a great thing now. We're just waiting for bullpen. Starting pitching and hitting all to be doing their thing at the same time. Steve great stuff man. Enjoy the day off in the next couple of games at home before you're back on the road again and we always appreciate you chiming in brother thank you. That's great steve. Sparks appreciate him coming right back. We'll discuss the top of the hour. We'll also hear from peyton manning a couple of things he said poking fun at tom brady and his passionate speech about.

"Just based on the fact that he has hit three home runs His first twelve at-bats since back jason. Are you going to have brandon belt. I have them what we're taught earlier talking about carlos santana Belt is a guy that i was susie got off the i l. Amac santana out. And so i was able to soak up those this week. I know we talked belt about a month right before we went on the injured list That we liked quite a bit. And i wanted to stick and ride within the rest of the way and so i'm not. I'm not wavering. From that it is mind-blowing that he's never eighteen is his career high in home runs and he's never had more. He's never even hit the eighty rbi total unless he has some kind of sammy. Sosa esque like tear the rest of the way. That's not going to happen again this year. Either but as you said. I mean he's six homers shy twenty And maybe that happens but offensively. I'm gonna i'm gonna ride on. He's now my lineup. Unless he gets hard again yeah. I think he's got to be picked up in pretty much every form especially with all the injuries are out there. In those view did lose. select him Probably wanna make him a priority question becomes like what are the giants going to do with this lineup. Rest of the way. i mean. They've been lied. Been running a lot of platoons even with all the injuries but now they're getting guys back left and right. I mean tommy l- stella's back. He's another guy who interesting In places where he was dropped in You know they still have lamont way junior. They still have will floor as donovan. Solano austin slater during rough. I mean there's going to be a lot of platoons going up and down this lineup. in belt's gonna be part. He'll be on the strong side which is great but He's not going to be able to volume the way maybe other players might in less crowded situations that being said soon. Hot bat right now And i think the there's a lot of reasons to pick him up and kind of ride hot streak it see if he can't get twenty onto the first time in his career Chaz mccormack he. He's a guy that You know unlike brand bell Maybe not swinging the hottest of bats but He may be able to volume his way with mile straw on He's gonna be playing quite a bit more than he was Jason weird thoughts on chas mccormick Reference to his picture on spacey yet just has to happen it. Does it really is. I really thought it was a hack i wanted. I happened. Got to be the way to go for him. And he's had that but even then he hasn't really long his way in because he did not he started the started the first games after the after the straw trade then he did then he was just pinch hitter for the next two and then he started the next three a last and he's got a stolen base Any at home run on the game prior to that so he hasn't. He started five seven since the trade happen and we are looking at volume two runs one of which he drove himself in one sold by. He's not getting a lot for what he's doing and when he starts hitting seven But he did hit. Second against the twins on apron. April august fifth But for the most party sitting in the bottom third of the lineup there. So i not crazy about early return to your but remains to be seen. I would like to me. Is that really gonna get higher net lineup. Unless somebody's getting day off. Which is why. I think he got that high dot air they. I believe they sat l. to that game. And that's why He got a higher spot in the lineup. But he's gonna hit the bottom three and you want volume but right now Against the a tough week he had the giants the dodgers and the twins and the twins twins pitching his where he picked up his damage. He didn't do anything. The dodgers we talked about how great their pitching has been and he did. He had two hits off the off the giants on the first tim. What are your thoughts and mccormick russia. My big concern about mccormack is the splits. You know when you look at the splits. He's batting two hundred against left handed. Pitching three home runs in sixty eight appearances. You know he'll he. He's a good strong side platoon guy. And that's that's really the way he should be used And i think maybe used in is trying to do that but You know. I'm really concerned about the splits here Playing time five out of seven games now but you know i. I don't know. I don't see it changing a lot. Going forward He's also a tough guy to roster in vp leagues. I play a lot of obt leagues so. Bp is just three hundred eight this season with seven percent walk raid six strikes out almost thirty two percent of the time So i kind of tough gotta go after. I don't really have any needs in the outfield right now. So i'm not. I'm not inclined to go after him It's just not the kind of guy. I'd go after disappointing in the season. Yeah i can understand that I mean anybody who can get fulltime played appearances in this lineup..

"To make for the organization But i think that having jake myers and chas mccormick gave us the the comfort i think to do that. Move and so they got like they'll make don who's who's been able to get some really big outs for for the past couple of years we feel like with this rosser. We're in a better position to succeed for the next few years. But that doesn't lessen how difficult it was to to make that move to call miles and explain it to him But look Dusty set these things are called trades. They're not called ripoffs And you know the the cleveland. Indians are very good organization They had identified miles of somebody that they could they could use and make a little bit of a A little bit easier to move given the state of their roster and this is a is a baseball three. I think it made sense for both sides But it was it difficult position what. What was his reaction when you told him he was great. You know i. I mean total pro. He was out having brunch. With tucker when i call them You know he's quiet and he thanked us for for everything But but he understood. And i think he was a little bit shocked But same time you know again just a total pro and everything you would expect from a guy of of miles strauss care caliber character a couple of more questions for our guy james click. Gm here out on the west coast. Big one tonight against max scherzer Astros take three. Oh win last night into this game okay. Are you concerned with bodies of not getting whether it's carlos or jose or yuli enough rest down the stretch before the postseason. Well it's something that we are managing and it's something that are strengthening condition. Guys keep a very close eye on and they let dusty no when guys need a day and With off as that are coming up. We're off again on monday and then again next thursday and then we we have enough off as in august and hopefully with once bregman gets back that that will allow us to move the roster around and and get a few guys extra day off your there. I think we'll be able to to get through it but is it is a constant challenge. And it's something that does deals with exceptionally well which leads me to my last question and was looking right through it on the the truth serum how concerned are you and we know what he wants to do. How concerned are you about the soft tissue stuff right now for the rest.

"Wins by the time they get to the all star break right and of the seventy four games. I i honestly believe unless i unless i dreamt up submit. It feels like there's a lot of different lineups. I thought. I read somewhere. And i'd love to give credit whoever did it and set it but i think that they've had damn near fifty five sixty different batting order this year. And maybe that maybe that's normal but it doesn't seem normal for a good team but i a injuries and boom people around and they're big on a day arrest and and but they've done a hell of a job with it so it's a tribute to them to be able to look around and say well it's not going to an office of line and every third game there's different dude plan right but that dude steps his game up because he played right guard one week three weeks later. He's sitting on a bench because you hurt his ankle. Then he's playing left tackle the next week and they keep it and that's a good thing and it's a it's a really good thing and so phenomenal baseball that the astros are playing. You can find. What i've found is that they've used fifty six dollars. I thought i'll close to sixty so i didn't. I wasn't wrong when i read it night. Whoever said it read it. And i knows an astros fan because they branded. I don't know if it was somebody local. Maybe it was michael schwab. Maybe it was. Mike great stuff but i was reading it that thought yesterday and said that many different lineups for this team normally don't maybe it just feels like i don't see that on good teams on a regular basis. But you've got to be able to move things around. So that's impressive. Seventy four games in forty-six twenty eight. Another game gained on the oakland a.'s. And it was an impressive win. I have now. We're getting to the point. Did you can almost be selfish. Nitpicking over what's wrong is like we're winning. But and i think you have to if you're a player. Excuse me this is when you must do that manager. Yes as i've said when things are going good you can criticize a little more with things are going bad. You hug him. Put your arm around him a little more but as a player yourself scouting yourself valuation. This is the time you do this this time you do this. You hit a ball. You hit a single that you hit the bloop to right field and this is when you got to base it you got critique yourself you take the hit but why you missed it or man was. It's like when a quarterback makes a throw in its catch but it's on his back shoulders opposed to his children. Receiver helped him out. Still looks like completion. You gotta grind on well. Why wasn't it on his front shoulder. Why was it on his back shoulder. The front shoulders a touchdown the back shoulders are a tackle here. Man if i'd had just in a weather's got the fat part of the bat on my hands through kept my weight back kept my front shoulder and drove the ball to right center for double all those things you have to self critique when you're playing this well wilko's that keeps you in games. It would been so easy after two wins against the baltimore orioles to sit back and say come on man when we make it. Adjustment asking chaz back. In abraham toro's and cal tucker's government thirteen runs later. It would have been easy to get a little okay so we made. We made an air. No big deal. We still one. That's a losers lament. It is though the winner says he got two hits. But i could hit the ball i had. I gave me a pitch. And i missed it. That's your even though it's small and minored us. You do have to do it. In order to all the great players. I've watched and sat next to and listen to when things are going. Great critique the live in hell outta themselves. we'll discuss that and how important it is and the great ones do and got two hits yesterday but should have been four. That doesn't mean you browbeat yourself. But you're always grinding without grinding. Too much and beating yourself down to. If you're hitting three ten you want to hit three twelve. Not because individually it makes you. It looks better for us. But because those couple percentage points made me in a difference in a winner to along the way so nice job by guys coming up. We've seen abraham terrell deliver we've seen chas mccormick the well the guys that are on a regular everyday based cell too vague brantley. Ray those guys cats just continue to play and pitching continues to stay strong. Starting pitching this is a this is pretty phenomenal to watch sports. Talk seven hundred coming right back. Don't go anywhere we tyler's ten at eight o'clock go around all these sports farm. We'll discuss the nba playoffs a little bit The draft again and where they are. And i slept on it. And i woke up and i think man i like mobely but i've said that the way people keep talking about it and haven't seen as much tried to back off. We'll talk about that. And i don't know guys. I don't know where trae young comes in your mind but if if you didn't have him as a superstar we we better start to maybe reevaluate. That discuss phenomenal.

"One one and at fastball. Is thrilled t to left field. That you can kiss it goodbye second home. Run of the game. Jose altuve tubing. That's what winds up on the train. Tracks astros lead at eight. Two four fifteen home runs on the year and six home runs for the astros tonight. That's a new season. Hi how's it taste arlington. All it goes down smooth haired houston texas astros be slapping the you know rangers last night. It is the sean salisbury. Show shawn's off this morning. Michael connor and a tyler. Heavy t so with you this morning until ten o'clock you can join us seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven nine of the astros improvement at thirty nine and twenty eight on the season with that victory last night. You heard robert ford. Their six home runs the ball. Tyler i don't know is six home runs in a game good. I can't tell. I think it's okay. It's not bad it could be. You know it wasn't. It wasn't seven lucky number seven. It wasn't eight so if they're really about they're going to go. And you know. Hit seven or eight tonight against the white sox by the way real quick shout out real quick shoutout to your the city that you hail from the city of los angeles. The angels are the biggest dumpster. Fire the history of time to count on their. They're kicking the as ass yesterday. Kicking their ass and they blow it thomas everything. I don't know. I mean come on. The astros are playing amazing baseball way. They've they've lost. Ground congrats the as for beaten a bunch of bad teams again. I'll keep saying they're giving themselves enough of a cushion. Now that my prediction that the comeback to five hundred is not going to happen. It's gonna take an absolute collapse. I think they're still gonna come down. I do not believe in them. They do advance numbers. Say that they're not this good their trust me. They're not this good but dammit can we get some luck in this city. The astros have been on a tear. Their eleven games five hundred now and they're still two and a half games back in the division right now to be playing. That stupid wildcard game. I hate life. I hate sports. Screw it. You don't hate. I don't hate sports. I don't hate life. I i enjoy quite a bit but i you know what i really enjoys when they win. Baseball games like they did last night. They go out there and they're just demolish on a day. Where look the unfortunate stuff is kyle tucker goes on the injured list health and safety protocols stuff and then alex bregman leaves the game in his first bat comes up lint running down i and they're calling it a quad but what have we been saying all season. His legs are not healthy. It's blatantly obvious. It was an issue in spring training. It's an issue now. He's not healthy. And i wish it was just not true but it's just a fact. He said for no power this season he said for no extra base a singles hitter. He's chasing pitches because he's got no legs. His strikeout rate has gone through the roof. His walk right has been fine but it's been nowhere near were typically because he's chasing more often than not h. It's just it sucks. But they need to sit him down and as much as he wants to apply like he may never get it right this season they gotta they gotta sit him though for a minute and just like you gotta rest. We need you to be better than what you are because right now he's not been the alex bregman that they need on this baseball team. What they do need those more wins like that last night how. 'bout let's stand up and take a balance well for chasma corner. Do you want to start the chaz mccormick fan club. I mean i can. He should be everyday center fielder. I mean mile straw homered last night as well. So can we even say that. Look i'm going to be honest with you. Homer against the rangers. Is it really count. Could you do it probably know you could probably terrible liar. It's the rangers bro. They're still throwing ninety five. Plus i think straw hit ninety five our pitch over the fence. It'd be like babe. Ruth call shot. Let's go okay. I love to see that on the train tracks. That would be great yeah. I'm sure that on the train tracks of a mini train. Track that we put out in the infield. Give me a month to prepare and some steroids. And i'll be good. Oh yeah. Don't forget the steroids we could give much spider tack a metal bat. While you're at that that would probably be something that you need to do to even sniff the crawford boxes minute maid park. Heck i would probably need the middle bad as well. Ma ma straw homers last night. Chas mccormick homers twice. That guy hasn't even hit one hundred at bats on the season. he's got eight home runs. Got eight home runs. That sounds pretty good. It's decent. I don't know what it is. I don't know what it would look like if he played more. But there's nothing wrong with me right now. He's gonna play every day if we're gonna get a little bit of a load because kyle tucker's out and this lineup. Being this is what happens in one hundred sixty two game season lineup is so deep we know this but now they're going to get tested a little bit difficult opponent into town in the white sox good pitching on their side. That's gonna come in this weekend. They're going to be without cal. Tucker they're going to be without bregman and you can slide yuli gurriel over the third base if you wanna do that god i'm praying that dusty baker dusty baker. I will say this we overdo the thought process on dusty but he does make decisions at times. The pitching last night bringing him brooks riley with the bases loaded. Why why why. You didn't bring in brooks ready to face joey gallo. Let's bring him in after. Why just like greg. He work out of it. It's not that difficult but the one thing dusty baker did last season. And i know he likes him. If abraham toro starts starts at third base every day. I'm gonna lose my mind while bregman is out. I will lose my mind. Because abraham torah doesn't need to play third base every day so please dusty. Do me a favor. Don't do anything like that. Move yulia over to over third base. Play taylor jones. Over i in. Let's let's just do this the easy way. But they're going to be tested now the depth. Obviously this is one of the things that we've talked about quite a bit and the terms of what they're looking at torch trade deadline stuff number one is of course. Bullpen heard james clerk yesterday. He kind of acknowledged that damning. You could just get the sense from his answer that they know that they need bullpen. And they're going to be active on trying to get bullpen help but they need bigly death and right now they do not have it leads. D. is down. You're gonna like. I said you're going to be playing mccormick. Every day. they're going to have toro slash hughley or whatever the heck robe. Don't play robo garcia. Either please i wanna watch him. Play to be perfectly honest with you. I don't know what they're gonna do to kind of figure that whole thing out but it's going to be difficult but the good news is again right now. They're winning ballgames. Hopefully this weekend tough to go into a series and say against a good team. I gotta get three out of four. But you're at home. And i'd like to get three out of four. I'm just being honest with and there's a little bit of spice to the series. Obviously with the way the carlos road on talked about the astros in his dumb ass answer that he gave about the sticky substances. Which by the way. We'll be a topic on the show today..

Michael connor robert ford taylor jones joey gallo alex bregman Tyler kyle tucker today Two james eleven games bregman Jose second home eight home runs Ruth one hundred ninety five yesterday white sox

"Seven. Wrap this up here with dusty baker we talk about the big seven or however you want to call it the the The the the seven that are as fierce as any lineup in baseball but mile straws playing pretty damn good baseball. So let's not count these other guys out. Chas mccormick homers his six of the year. Maldonado's been money behind the plate. This really good baseball club in a team. Scott they've they're not just thinking playoffs they gotta be thinking crown themselves with as champions in another ring and they'll be we're going to hit it here in a second some of the things that maybe they need come trade deadline to push themselves second half of the season but dusty baker. Some of these other things fromberg coming off the injury what he's about but first mile straw dusty baker on miles strauss's performance. You know it's just a matter of plan and a matter of what's your confidence in him in in in. Continue to put him out there. A lot of people were getting out of. There was the season great young. Two young player time You know to learn. The league alignment pitchers that he's going to be facing an accident. Learn himself because he hadn't played this much and a couple couple years to see what is our And of he's been working hard at it. He's been working hard. You know trying to stay out of the air. Stay on the line and and make contact and he's not taking as much And so you know. Swinging bats dangerous bat and the feel a problem. Selva this whole lot more in this net on the way to coming out so We're all pulling for him because you know he's a tremendous has tremendous value. You know he's our human tukwila real bona fide speed guys and you know. He's turning into outstanding center. Fielder daily daily keyword. Nice to hear. That's really nice to hear. And they kind of waited and waited and here. We are with the guy who's really raised. His game dusty. Also how can you not be impressed with this. Frontline ace from revealed as he continues to mold the opponent down at chartres because he was in and out of the strike zone ready made pitch when he need it down especially on double place. You know. that's the pitcher's best friend. Though plays again two hours with one pitch. Save yourself a lot of pitches. And you know he was. He was he was good. You know we're we're debating whether the same in the seventh facility known for his endurance. You know he's still getting back into shape and we wanna take him two hundred pages. He was just under that so that was outstanding performance by family. Yup no shock. He continues to pitch in find his way through those performances. Where you're not a sharp whatev- curtailed him three years ago. Maybe two years ago starting last year before coalition find his way through is now becoming one of those guys that you count on. Every time he takes the mound. All right tyler. There's been some talk. Espn coming out with what teams that are in the playoff hunt need to basically push them to another level and i use that in my own words in the second half of the season. So what do you got force in the next couple of minutes that espn is said. The astros need aside. Maybe the same bullpen would be my number one choice. Is that the case or are they going in a different direction. You would be correct on that. So right now. They still have a thirty five. Almost thirty six percent chance of winning the division sixty five percent chance of the playoffs and a twelve percent chance at the l. Penance five percent chance to win the whole thing so the key things that they need number one is a closer but as they say that they mentioned more the bullpen specifically says the astros bullpen has had some of the worst results in baseball and while there are some good arms and hopes for regression as the group gets healthier a closer might help bring it all in focus presley has pitched well as the main saves guide. By adding someone. Pittsburgh's richard rodriguez would be a major boost. Well the only reason be major boost as you could use presley somewhere else in a bullpen. I disagree that's not the number one. Need bullpen yes. Closer no i. Yeah i like how good. It's not a closed that sitting out there. That's like you have to go get either. I mean rich. Rodriguez is a nice pitcher. But he's not a guy that profiles big talk. Like i don't know he's just he closer he doesn't he doesn't care be guarantee me better results than presley and if you're going to go out and make that move then i got then it's got to be that guy which is a no brett good pitcher but i don't think that's number one bullpen. Yes or no. I'm all for that. So the number to need is still the center field spa. And i know they've been using straw and mccormick however these two options that they mentioned. I do more than both of those guys said. Houston's posted george springer pendants centerfield isn't hasn't panned out so far and the trademark. It should have quality options such as baltimore. cedric mullins. and miami's starling morte fair. what am i giving up to get him. It does not specify. But i would have to imagine especially for mullins probably pretty low pet if i'm giving up something to get them considering the way that mccormack's been playing with energy off the bench and the way miles straws game. I'm gonna tell you this though if this if even continues close to this rate the way mile stress plan. There's no way they're going to get a center. Fielder this centerfield gonna get benched. I i don't think that's going to happen. That miles straw is doing what a good player. What a guy under pressure. Suppose to slow those down so they quit talking about iraq guys slowing down. So while i tyler. I get what you're saying. Why those names bull sound more appealing and overall better players. But what am i giving up to get him. And is it worth or would i be better well-spent finding not only bench strength but bullpen strength as well. We'll discuss this tomorrow. I think this this warrants a lot more discussion after we saw that. Come down about an hour and a half ago or so sports talk seven hundred great show fast mc back tomorrow take care of those flat tires my man be safe tyler.
