Enrollment Continues to Increase at New York City Charter Schools

"Enrollment at New York City's charter schools has increased during the pandemic. W on my CI's Jessica Gould reports. Overall charter enrollment grew by about 10,000 students this school year. The increase was especially high for white and Asian students. And for those learning English enrollment, and Chartres has been trending upward for awhile. It increased by 10,000 students last year, too. Meanwhile, enrollment in city run schools has been decreasing in recent years. Although the decline this fall was steeper, with 43,000 fewer students, charters continue to serve a relatively small slice of New York City's families with less than 170,000 students total compared to the 960,000 in the city's public school system.

"Of the year shows up I'm not expecting a lot of baskets and I was seeing a lot of bass is going into who Lebron was definitely eating them up, so, but but that's an argument out there. There's some people will say. Go bare right, but again I go Anthony Davis I'm biased, but it makes sense just seeing what he's done. He's one game this year with his defense especially in the clutch. He really so you look at what they gave up. Brandon Ingram is going to be really good right I mean he's and he's got an even better this year. He's going to be great. Is he going to be is ever going to hit Anthony? Davis low. Probably not. That's a super high bar. Right Lonzo Ball I like Lonzo ball I still like him. He's never going to be Anthony Davis level most likely the of them becoming that level inaugurate Josh Heart is a great role player. I would love to have Josh Heart on this team, but in the end I felt like in the moment when the trade went down I was glad to see okay. It's official eight years Laker. At, the time though I remember thinking cash. That's what it is. They gave up a lot and you can see why. It's paid off this year. Their first place in the western conference. It finally feels like Lakers does. It doesn't don't get me wrong. I'm glad they did it. But my hope when the tree broke had been that they would have kept one of three things one of four things. I want to see them either. Keep the number four pig. Keep. Brandon Ingram. Keep Lonzo or keep the pair of Kacoos Mandra Chartres, I wanted to keep one of those four things because I thought the Lakers had some leverage because Boston was out anthony. Davis said he would resign there right. All of these other teams that he wasn't. GonNa go. There was no better offer to than the Lakers, and so my hope was that they will come with a little bit better deal that would leave them with one or two more assets I was actually cool. With Lonzo Ball and cal coups Mustang and everything else going because I knew the avenue that you're giving up. It had to be a lot just because there were teams like he had Boston..

I'm david brown and this is business warriors daily on this tuesday august twenty seventh we work the enormous us real estate company that made its name renting co working space to startups filed paperwork for its i._p._o. Earlier this month in could go public in september that i._p._o. Has been eagerly anticipated but the perspective has drawn confusion instead. It's filled with contradictions and some downright weird stuff stuff so odd in fact that inspired bloomberg op ed writer shiro vide to write one of the best leads recent business journalism history and i quote i get paid to write words for a living and i am nearly at a loss for words about we work companies. She said now let me try to explain lovie days. Speechlessness snus adam newman founded the company in twenty ten with a vow to transform the way we work he wouldn't just rent office space to freelancers lancer and creatives he'd make beautiful and above all communal after all the growing hordes of independent workers are lonely. Newman's concept could solve not just the need for affordable physical space but a more existential problem as well in two thousand ten newman's company had two locations in new york and four hundred fifty tenants whom we work calls members by the way we works parent company changed. Its name to the week company earlier this year today. Only only nine years later we work claims five hundred twenty eight locations in one hundred eleven cities around the world and five hundred twenty seven thousand members. That's a lot of numbers and we're not even going to try to do the math to figure out the percentage growth. Let's just say it's insane and that we work claims to be the largest private holder of office space. Yes in manhattan london and washington d._c. But it's losses are also enormous its biggest investor japanese tech giant softbank values the we company at close to fifty billion dollars but it lost nine hundred million on revenues of one point five billion in the first half of this year alone. The company is also obligated. You pay close to fifty billion dollars for long-term offices around the globe over the next ten to fifteen years. We company officials say they'll be resilient to recession kids but real estate businesses stuck with long term leases have struggled in previous economic downturns one of those was we work rival. I w g i w a._g. Owns the regis brand of flexible furnished office spaces that company filed for chapter eleven bankruptcy protection in two thousand three office vacancies had soared after the internet net bubble burst and i w g was obligated to pay rent on all those empty offices today i w g has six hundred two thousand desks in offices across across the globe only two thousand fewer than we work. It's been profitable for years. The wall street journal reports despite its profitability its market cap is less than five billion billion under ten percent of the week companies unicorn valuation. The reason for the gulf in values may lie in the difference between the two companies narratives ribs regis portrays itself as a real estate business but we's adam. Newman refuses that term according to see n._b._c. Where not a real estate company. He says we're a community of creators. The journal says newman has referred to the we company is a physical social network invoking a mind bending metaphor for social life in the real world mimicking that which is online they just happen to be growing community through leasing offices and a few other communal businesses as well such as apartments call we live and even new private schools called. We grow one question. Stumping bloomberg's shiro vide and others is whether we company actually has a path to profitability or not and whether a real estate company asari adema community company employing the fast growth strategy of tech startups like uber and lift will soar or deflate on the public markets. We'll be watching whether this this one works from wonder. This is business wars data. Hey feel like this episode. Sir chartres with a friend and show them how can subscribe for free. "Call me now. Seven three four eight to two sixteen hundred. You know, I don't know how to do the horror on posted opposed to like unoppossed. Mike Bouchard bless them for some of the work. He's doing here with the making us aware of what police officers face every day, like Chartres cheer about open Coney. You've got gotta post up here. Second. A police officer shot and killed expected gunman in custody custody. After stand now. That's good. The guys in custody, there's a dead sheep dog dead sheepdog because of this dirtbag, some kind of a standoff shooting, and I go and I see this thing, and I clicked like, but I think I don't like that. I don't like that at all horrified by that. The other thing that, for example, on my ciders posted today. Washington state law, we're gonna get into this little bit later. Washington state law will force colleges to Reese. Schedule exams. These are kids in school. Take exams. I don't even have many more, but some schools do exams for fasting Muslims. They're going to cancel exams and say, we can't do them, yet because we have Muslims that need to fast. And when they're done, then we'll have the exams. Yeah, you heard me right. My comment was this disgust me this utterly discussed me where the F is my country. Where is my country? Where is my country? Glenn Beck was all over something today that we talk about quite a bit. But he put it as Beck. Does aptly and terms of the urgency that is the border that is wide open wide open that people are a farmer down air rancher? Has property on the border. He's got kids that has swimming pool his property. He's literally right within view of the train track that runs next to the Rio Grande. So the, the borders, right there, and you can see it from his property, and he said, his kids are afraid to swim in the pool. He sits with a shotgun, while his kids and grandkids swimming pool. They're afraid of illegal aliens, come off the train, and come under his property. In fact, one of threaten them said he's because he had a run on the property. The guy told him the illegal aliens coming back and I'm gonna hurt you on hurt your family. That sounds like drug cartel stuff, doesn't it? So this is our border right now. I mean, if that were the only incident, the only thing that you heard about none of the other stuff about the insane stats of thousands of committed rapes, committed murder thousands of Kemira, legally just that alone would say, let's seal that border. There's not one reason for that border, Bill and nobody. He's doing anything about it. Now part of what this was about today. He had a sheriff on not del Rio the tone. I can't remember the title small town in Texas, and the small towns are being destroyed being destroyed small town, just about. Yeah. I think he said about twenty miles from del Rio. Texas right there on the border. What happens as they drop off illegal aliens, and they say here they are. And at one point, he said, it was like fifteen out seven or eight fifteen than it was twenty something now the one hundred fifty that has drop off by just drop off. It's like where do you want them should we drop them in this WalMart parking lot? Do on about the at the hospital. They have some containment facilities but they're overwhelmed hundred percent overwhelmed. Now, this goes to the Trump administration, even though even though there's no border wall. Why are they being dropped off? Why are they not being bussed back over to the Mexican side and just thrown out of the bus, get out get out double dog dare, to come back with these armed guys down here, these soldiers, you will not come back crosses? Why are we not doing that? And they're being flown into cities around America. I don't have an answer for that. I don't know. It is a mystery. And the point Beck was making is that as Texas goes, the nation goes, if you get illegal aliens swarming and invading, Texas like they are. And then they vote it's over. It is all over one hundred percent dude. Where is my country where the F is my contr? Sorry. Your country, right. Thinking American I'm not talking to you communist bastards out there. You progressive idiots that work against this country every step of the way and by that I'm not just talking to Democrats. I'm talking about the Paul Ryan Republicans. The Rick Snyder Republicans. What the hell's going on? When you guys gonna gross out of balls and stand up and say something, I mean, literally say something so that you won't shut up. I'm sorry. You'll have sit down. You're disrupting this the, the legislation here in the house of representatives. I'm not sitting down. I'm not saying, I'm filibustering I'm sorry. That's, that's the for the Senate to do. Screw you homie outta here in cuffs. That's the kind of Representative, I would be in state in DC, and I, I would let everybody know that that's going to be the case until something gets done down there. There's no other. Well, I I've said before the most important thing we can do is heard in the grid. But right now, I think the most important news, hard fricken border. Waller no war. Let's it's crazy. And then on top of that you've got the insanity. We're gonna thing I didn't get into yesterday about students in California, highschool are being told that if you have goals, if you say my goals, excel get all as in high-school college become microbiologists, something like that a medical professional, whatever any goal, I want to be the captain and quarterback of the football team. All goals are saying goal oriented mindset is toxic. This is being sold to children that would make sense. If you to have a bunch of children roped into. Boba socialism wouldn't. Yeah, it would it would. I think Steve Xs commenting on hell. Yes, tell it brother is if I should be president. If I if I were president, I would I I'm serious about this. I would have already put probably about one hundred thousand national guard on the border. And if Gavin Newsom said, I'm sorry, during our state, marching anyway, marched them in any way. I would stop the flow of illegal aliens overnight, and the they may not stop, but I would round up every single one of those photos I could. And then when I did that I would go into the school system around, America, where they've already settled in, I would take them back, and I would tell the Mexican government, we are going to bust these people across your border. We're not going to go through the checkpoints. We're just going to dump them off. And if you start anything about us coming over here across the border illegally, we will smoke you. We will smoke you UNC nothing yet, and then it'd be busting and just dropped off on Mexican soil, right there in the frigging desert. The same way they came across into our, our beloved country. Disgusted by this. You should be too. If you're not if you're not in your vote for a democrat you are against America hundred percent. No excuses. I know the Republican party has got its flaws. But the democrat party is a lewd of all evil these days. That's the reason we're in shape. Or in the reason we maintain the shape, where in is because of the Republican party. The new sort that out. I can't you're on the edge. Always on the move. Driving to work running errands. How do they keep up with the latest political talk? They listen.

"And you know, I mean, obviously the thing that sticks out for rumble. However, is that he's been through this before, you know, and it goes all the way back to two thousand nine when you know in California accused him of breaking down her door, forcing his way into her whole. And I remember being out there in Florida like years later talking to epide- about this. And you know, he was like why we we were just really young. She was young. I was young like I. We were just like like all the drama all the time. And then like like when I got arrested by lawyer was telling me like you just plead contents. You get you like this could be over. You'll have to like the the punishments won't be that bad could be done with it. And so I did it if I could go back in time, I would plead no contest to it. I mean, there's just like when you get those types of stories. I mean, that's that's kind of like. You know, it's not uncommon. I don't think there's just like the story. Either pharmaceutical or legal drug addicts right all of those habits destroy your health. So I just want encourage everybody here today. Like, some of you are probably thinking about somebody in your life right now that you're still kinda pissed at right? That's hurt. You. And so I just want to encourage you to give them to guy just be like you'll let on choosing to forgive them. I don't feel like it. I'm still mad. But I'm making this decision. They're all yours. Right. Letting it go. They're all yours. You can deal with them. I'm not going to hold it against them anymore. Right. That's what forgiveness is it's a choice. It's not feeling but what happens is when you make the choice your feeling change. That's when God heals your heart. So forgiveness is so huge is so huge it won't make you any money. But it will heal your heart and help you help you stay in a state of wellness pursue per Horton. Hey, so like just whoever it is. And so when I did in the cancer process is full circle as I was learning this, and I realized well like stress in bitterness and unforgiveness is a root cause of cancer. I was like I got it. Forgive everybody who's ever hurt me. So I just made a decision to just go through my life and think through my life and every time I would get an a quiet place in prayer meditation. And I would just I would just dig up all of the people in my life that hurt me right and one by one I just forgive them by name given to God. And just pray the way I just said like throw yours, I'm not gonna hold against him anymore making this decision for life. I forgive them. And then I would say I'm asking to bless them too. When you ask God to bless people who've hurt you something really happens in your heart. Right. It's that changes, the changes everything, and he knows you don't want him to write. He knows you want like the lightning bolt. Right, right. He knows it. But he'll honored the requests. Like when you're like God. I don't want. You want them to be blessed? And we were looking it's actually your seventh hit on our pop songs airplay chart and just like a little over two years. Yeah. I mean is it still exciting to see your name on the charts? It definitely is. I feel like it hasn't been up there lot. At least not comparing to to what I wanted to be in what I wish for what I work for. Of course. I think it's amazing to see my song Scharping because chart Tang because that means someone that was about a Chartres. Short. Thing slightly different. Yeah. And it is because I want to be commercially successful artists. I want a lot of people to come to my shows. I love performing live. It's my favorite thing in the world. And just everything to to build up to that moment is just. My dream come true in a way. And I don't know why I really don't know why it's been this idea in my head that I've had since I was a little girl that I just wanna be not only doing music, but I wanna do it on a super large scale. You're on the trout. It should be just like, oh, I really just wanna play coffee shops. I want to. I don't wanna play Wimbley. That's right. Should be the goal should be all in or anything. At least. But I do want people to enjoy what I do. It's like it is a little paradox. 'cause you wanna just do whatever you want. And you wanna be not care what other people think? But then there's still still some corporate Percy's money listener. It's it's it's walking that fine line. Well, this track Bentley is pleasing people right now. So how did it come to be? "Now that we realize that you have to realize that you're with someone, and they're telling us that these things like I don't think that people say things like that unless they mean, it, you know, what I mean like he wouldn't keep saying it already has you in bed. You know? Yeah. Yeah. So just remembering these things maybe write this down after we talk. Sometimes I forget, I always like write things down after I like, here's something that inspire therapy or whatever. But like remember that it's not your current situation. Like people you're very desirable. And that was your partner not you and that the longtime not to have sex. So now you get to rebuild and start new. This is the John two thousand nineteen who is desirable and sexy and want sex and people want to have sex with you. So you have any thoughts about taking a feel like I'm fifty should. I take some kind of a bold action that you something that it wouldn't normally ever ever do. I don't know like sexually. Or just like what I what I like go to a pool public goal. Yeah. Oh, oh. So you don't take my shirt? Yes. You absolutely should. I mean, I think see small things like that like going to the gym and take near Chartres more doing things that you wouldn't normally do. Absolutely, go pool. Take it walk around. Do. This is prohibited. You and other areas of your life. I thought I was just during sex. So I think yes, do something. Oh, so it's everywhere. You've had this like self esteem. Right. Can't remember the last time. I had my shirt off once I'm out of the shower. Yeah. Absolutely. I think that when you get out of the shower you have to dance on your partner, your your your house naked like, I think you should start to be more naked masturbate looking in the mirror. Do you know hot? That is when you actually do something like that. Like look at yourself in the turnaround and look at your body. I'm sure you are fine. Like fifty or otherwise doesn't even matter. So I think like you've got everything going for you've got sacked. You've got guys tell you. You're awesome. So you're the. Last person, we need to convince so I think anything you could do I always believed that doing something different is a huge step towards getting us to where we want to go do one thing different. So yes, like walkout naked be naked at the park in the pool wherever do it. Or like take your shirt off, you know, don't get arrested. But yeah, be bold and replace those negative thoughts. Thank you, John for calling let we know. How goes this is your year? I know it. Thank you. You know, he's just seeing harder. He's like body image and negative self talk is a process, and when you could replace that negative with affirmations, you know, maybe there's like five statement. Maybe you think like, oh, I feel fat or something. And then you will you literally could have five things like I am beautiful. My body is strong. I love my legs. And you could have them in the notes section on your phone and look at them that negative dot comes in and you can replace it. We can rewire our brains with right thinking this reminds me of like so many people about calling Email in saying that like I always. Oh, my partner that they're so beautiful. And they just or that they're so handsome or they so attracted them in the you're just like, no. Yeah. Like or they don't it doesn't like help them out. They're like, oh, I don't know. I compliment them all the time. I don't know why they and it's kind of like it's an inside job. Yeah. You as your emotional health is an inside job. No one else is going to make you feel beautiful are smart or successful. And we have to do all of that. It's true. But it's it's fun work you guys. So we really really have to work on our selves and figure out meditation is a great way, you know, even like ten minutes day, five minutes day training, your brain to. So you're in control your brain in your brain. Isn't ruling you it becomes easier to replace those negative thoughts. Okay. Let's talk to Marie who sixty three in Missouri..

"But if sect is not mitigate in them. So for example, if it's Mars and date chart or Saturn in a night chart that is a dealbreaker in terms of making that malefic angular in that particular. Chart. Exactly. Yeah. That is the most important thing to avoid for sure. In terms of our like hierarchy of things to avoid. Are let's look at another chart. Let's say we got another chart with Leo rising. And we have Venus Scorpio in the fourth house and Jupiter in Torres in the tenth house and the son in gem night eleven thousand I've made an astronomical impossible. Because of has somehow break in. The orbit of the sun. And it is now six signs away, which is not possible in less. We've had some sort of. In the solar system. Yes, basically is like post apocalyptic election astrology where we exist somehow like atoms in the universe floating out there. But we're still doing these elections is like on our way out of this. Right. All right. Let's pathetically assume that that's possible in this chart. We have Venus is angular in the fourth house and Jupiter's angular in the tenth whole sign house and Torres and Mars and Saturn, arcade, and in cancer and the Marsden cancer in the twelfth and Saturn is Kate and in Capricorn in the sixth house. So this would be again, another positive best case scenario where both the benefits are angular and both of them laugh IX our kid, and so the banana car more prominent in this chart and the malefic are less prominent. Let's switch it up when we're time. And let's say we've got a chart where Leo is rising, and we have Venus in libra in the third house Jupiter in cancer. And the toll house Mars moved a Taurus in the ten thousand and Saturn has moved to Aquarius in the seventh house. Right. So this would be something to avoid because Mars is very prominent in the tenth angular house Saturn's also angular in the seventh house, and then you have the benefits tucked away in the twelfth and third houses. Right. So this would be worse case scenario because we have the moth prominent, and we have been ethics not prominent exactly. And to the extent that the malefic tend to indicate challenges hardship and difficulties whereas the benefits tend to promote ease and success and good fortune. We're gonna tend to want to emphasize the benefits as much as we can into the emphasize the malefic now there are. You know, like havi odds to that. And there are exceptions to that. And there's ways to make the malefic constructive and make them positive and make them. So that we would use them in certain elections, either in the context of certain specific elections or even in lectures in general as long as they're well plays. But in terms of inherent sort of like tendencies, these are some of the things that will tend to gravitate towards most of the time. Yeah. Right. Are it? So that sounds good in terms of angular ity. Are there any other things? I guess this is the point where we actually need to really introduce sect and talk about sex. Yeah. I think so all it so sect it's something we've heard I've talked about a lot on the podcast before. It's huge component of agent. Astrologists a huge component of Hellenistic astrology. I run through tons of examples of this in the book and in my Helen estraged chorus because it's such a useful in such a crucial interpretive factor in needle astrology. It's also very crucial and important in election astrology as well. So the basic thing with sacked is that you and any chart you need to first identify whether it's a day chart or a night charred and the way to do that is simply to look and see if the sun is above the exact degrees of the ascendant decent access in the top half of the chart. And if that's the case, then you have a day char, whereas if the sun is anywhere below the exact degrees of the senate's Senate access, then you have a night Chartres. Right. So that's gonna change basically the quality of both of an ethics in the malefic. So for the most part so far we've been talking about them as kind of like dichotomy spinifex versus malefic. But there is actually a hierarchy and Kuala constructive and destructive qualities that will either be emphasized or de-emphasized depending on sect a right and there's a whole economy. Complicated thing that we could get into in terms of that..

"Meeting earlier this month in January where you said, basically there instances in which a country taking on debt might not be a terrible thing. And that was a very hedged observation. But even that observation the way it was received at sounded like Olivia, blonde Chartres is suddenly condoning government debt. So is there a German bias within the profession of economics that it's just very hard to think of debt as a good thing in any case when you have a message like the one that they gave the meetings you have to think they ought about. How it's going to be used in a new that some people would say, well that is great in some people would say, Nah, I doesn't understand anything. So I think you have to be ready for it. And you just try to Kenny boy to a message. So that it's not going to be too much twisted one way or the other at four we go too far. I hate to interrupt. You can you summarize your message because I think it's an important one. So the message is that in an environment of vague. Low interest rates that is not such a big issue. And in particular when interest rate is lessen the Gulf rate, then actually you don't just formally in them, not pushing the argument beyond that, you can actually not we pay for that. Because the debt will increase the interest rate, but the economy will go at the goal freight. If a golf way this quarter of an interest rate, the ratio of debt to GDP will actually go down even without having to raise taxes, and the point I made is that this is trivial involvement in which we are it doesn't mean that that is good. It's still the case that that might quote out capital. So veiled less for future generations. But it says you're not going to run into test for fees right away. You can basically increase that the basic message Indian was that is probably not good on that. But you can use it. It's not the end of world, but use it for the right things. If is a week, and might we policy cannot be used us it evades public investment. To be done the infrastructure is intolerable shape use it don't use it for no reason at all. So don't have deficits we have in the US. It'd be spent doesn't make any sense, but you can use it. It's too tool. It's not the tool that you should avoid to us at any price so to you should use when you need to. So that was the message. So this is a very cautious recommendation that you made a how was it was it received? It's like it's cautious. But again, it is a bit at odds with Khruschev, you that that is get trophic that can German view that if you have debt you have to eliminate it as fast as you can so in that sense. Yes, it's kosher because I try to be reasonably cautious, but it's fairly far from I would save a dumb in view. Why the dominant view why Germany books have been written on this? It clearly goes back. It's the same as with respect to inflation and hyperinflation in Germany, what happened in the last hundred years in Germany. Explains a lot of it..
