COTAXfinity Recap, Busch Wins

"Nascar xfinity series race recap from circuit of the americas over the weekend. Rain made this one interesting for sure. But kyle busch dominated. He led thirty five of the forty six lap event. Kyle busch spanks the field with an eleven second lead coming to the checkered flag. In his ninety eight th career win in this series I think we had a really good piece. Just overall talking with dinger kind of felt like drive off was probably our biggest thing that we excelled that today. Just being able to keep the rear tires on the car longer being able to get the gas pedal down to make a away longer. Instead of sitting there modulating the gas and kind of playing with it and wasting time to get down that was the biggest thing almoner behind me. He was the closest that could keep up with me for about two laps. But i was always in front of him when we were close to each other. So i didn't I didn't really see how well he was through the ss or You know through the slow section stadium section over there to see if that's if he can make ground on me there keep up with me there or whatever so Yeah that's probably about about it all right. Aj alma dinger ends up second followed by justin all our kevin harvick and austin syndrich rounds out the top. Five point standings like this five to one justin all daniel hamrick. "Cola six hundred Charlotte Motor Speedway driving. The lime green number eighteen interstate batteries car for Joe Gibbs. He won two more times that season launching a hall of fame career Elliott has apparently run out of fuel, and as being pushed in by ten muskrat, which on the last lap is not legal. But Bobby Levada comes to the stripe and for the third time this year he'll win on the NASCAR Winston Cup series. It has win number sixteen for Chevrolet. Second place will now be handed over to Terry Labonte Bobby Labonte reached his pinnacle, in two thousand nabbing four wins, including the southern five hundred at Darlington. Bobby Labonte and beat them all off pit road though came out I let the back up into the corner. Jeff Burton falls in line item, the fifteen point nine seconds. Stop for Bobby lavonia great stop coming through again is. Battery team a little loose air pressure jasmine. They came running fit. They leave with the lead. The racist going to end this Bobby the body leads the field out of the start finish line because of rain and darkness. The checkered flag is about to be displayed and Bobby the body after having such hard luck. You're at Darlington. It's going to come home, the winner of the fifty first Pepsi, southern five hundred. We pin it, and I didn't think we're gonna have another yellow. I was kind of actually looking for a lot of green because I was right with the three and I thought I was going to be pretty good with ADA behind me. I thought he was going to stay there. So I say, well, it's going to be bad finish here and then move pitted race game. And that they're the checkered flag. I'd like now they in that amazing Bobby drove on to win the two thousand NASCAR Cup series championship. Kind of statement does this make for Joe Gibbs racing his driver. One of his drivers is going to win the race. The other is going to win the NASCAR Winston Cup championship. Graduation champ has sounds great. I tell you what. It's just an awesome feeling. Yesterday. We weren't running that good. And I just kinda home braid last night that we'd be able to get it right. And we worked pretty hard Jimmy. I did on the set up this morning and. We went back to a lot of things went to last year. And you know we weren't as good as Tony congratulations. Those guys had all day today, but, you know, we were stood tough, and so tall they're, they're almost today. Fought a little bit. But as was all about these guys interstate. Mon- Pontiac team. "Fantastic two weeks of racing here at Charlotte Motor Speedway and a great greatest day in motor sports. Capped off with a fantastic. Coca Cola six hundred and a win by Martin tricks junior, just really exciting day. And if you don't know anything about it, Cabela's brewing is located about six and a half miles here from Charlotte Motor Speedway. They have established themselves as one of the leading. Craft beer brewers in the state. They use all North Carolina products. We visit up there couple of times. And of course, what we have on the table. Here is there Cabrera's cotton blonde is an excellent microbrews. I think you'll enjoy it and I'm enjoying it. There you go. It's Cabrera's cotton blonde. It's the local beer for everyone where not only it is brew, but the grains are grown right here in North Carolina. So cheers with beers will have art to X junior here shortly Alexis. We saw a dramatic race tonight. Sixteen yellow flags had includes three for stage breaks so thirteen four actual incidence on the track plus eighty laps of yellow which kept the field compress. Yeah. I mean I, I don't know if I would've expected that going into the night, I mean, I knew based off of what we saw in Kansas racing this configuration at night, we were going to see some some awesome racing and I knew that the restarts. We're going to be really close. I was not expecting sixteen cautions for eighty laps. But it made for a fantastic finish to the race. We had one, right? At the end. I think we had what four laps to go. I think in the last restart it felt to me, like there was a lot of drama building in this race. But also at the end of the day, the very best car won the race. He was dominant during the second half, but with the number of cautions that we were having so quickly kept the field, compressed. Yeah. I mean as is usually the case with this race. You have comers and goers. You start in the day you end in the night. It seemed like Brad Keselowski kind of had, you know, the race on lock in the first and second stage where he came home, the Victor in those stages. But once the sun went down and things cooled off a bit. There's no doubt about it was Martin true juniors race to lose as we've said before race fans in the race media are really quick to judge a race. Was it a good race? Was it a bad race? Here are couple of metrics from this race, as we said, earlier six. Eighteen yellow flags thirteen for on track incidents and thirty league changes that Lee changes at the start finish line, and those didn't come because we had a bunch of green flag pit stops with people coming in. They came because we had that many passes for the league. I mean, I'm looking, you know, at the the list of, of leaders here that we had we had Martin trucks junior who who led the most laps at one hundred sixteen but she also had Kabua's lead Seventy-nine Brad Keselowski lead seventy six chase Elliott forty three. I mean it was not a dominating performance. Like we saw Martin do in two thousand sixteen where he led almost every single lap. But still, he flexed a lot of muscle tonight how to change just a moment ago. Ran into Joe Gibbs up in the speedway club, and I said coach one eight out of thirteen races this season. I said, that's that's pretty good. It's gonna let everybody anybody else in onto. He goes, absolutely not. Don't remind me of the numbers. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know why you would. I mean his team has been dominant. I mean, that's really the only term that you can use to, to talk about it. You know, obviously Kabua's has three wins marked tricks junior has three rents. Any Hamlin has a few wins. You think is there a big three coming back with Kazlauskiene true, ex and Kabushiki? But I think there's just a big one.

Surprise win at Charlotte "monumental" for Ryan Blaney's confidence

"Chatting with Sunday's winner at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Ryan Blaney. We've spoken of winning the race and running the race, but what about the benefits of that? Race? Ryan. What about the tea? Where does this team stand right now? What did this win do for the guys as you head into over this weekend? Huge. You know, we, we were looking at this first round lead into the playoffs and and honestly we were this was around, we were most worried about because there's a couple of tracks in here where we weren't sure how we're going to run. You know, Vegas honest. We're going to run a little bit better there, but Richmond, that's been a track where we've struggled. And I thought we made a big gain there and practicing qualifying and the race we, we struggled really bad and had a terrible day, and that's kinda got us nervous about what we were sitting in the points. And then you go to the role that you just don't know what to expect. Anything can happen. You don't know if you're gonna be good, bad getting Iraq. You don't know everyone's a little bit nervous going into the robo, but you know, even before we won the race, we did our job and ran how we needed to get into the next round on points. But whenever you can win, especially in the playoffs, it's just a huge confidence booster not only to me but to the team as well. And to do it in that fashion I think was was it was neat, and I know they're really excited to. Going and around to. I feel like has some really good tracks for us. So hopefully we can capitalize on that stuff. But yeah, it's just a huge confidence booster everybody and confidence a big thing, this sport, and we, we definitely have it right now. Hopefully we can keep it for a while.

Well, guess what San Diego carburetor fuel injection can definitely take care of it. And condenser got Dino machine, you can definitely dial in your distributor and believe it or not there's a lot of horsepower within a distributor if it's done properly. Right. Well, we didn't really have a caller call in. If you watched any of the new NASCAR racing this come out this weekend with the xfinity race. And and the the. The NASCAR boys just ran at Charlotte Motor Speedway right in a process called the the Rover a Rover, which is a hybrid of speedway and road. Course, I guess if you wanna crash a lot of cars. Yeah. Put a lot of NASCAR vehicles on a row vol seventeen. And sit back and enjoy your popcorn. Boy, do they tear up some whip. Let me tell you lot of breaks locking up in the turns spin and now skidding spitting hitting the walls. So we're not going to give you the winners of the rides. We'll do that at their last fifteen, but but I just figured if you don't wanna know who want it, then you can at least you'll know in the next fifteen now this weekend Barrett Jackson was in Las Vegas for their last. Event for the year, and they garnered thirty two point nine million dollars in car sales. Some of the highlights operation of a year year, long driven hearts charity campaign that they were involved in as well. So the end of the twentieth eighteen auction cycle and a very incredible way. This is our eleventh time in Las Vegas with unbelievable sales. I got a chance to watch most of it. Their main campaign was a charity called driven hearts and this year's premier autumn automotive lifestyle event was in Las Vegas was held at twenty seven to twenty nine. We gotta go Mandalay bay resort casino. Total of seven hundred thirty three vehicles nearly all at no reserve, which I was blown away. That's incredible. Well, he's kind of gotten away from that. He doesn't like them. Well, they hold things up sometimes those reserves and just some of the vehicles that that went went down people purchased and there were some really good deals there too. They don't show this in this paperwork because but there were you'd get Mercedes for under ten grand. There were I mean, there was some know lot of imports lotta import lot of Porsches lot of Bentley's bucket load of Bentley GT's is a two hundred thousand dollar car for forty fifty sixty thousand dollars Burt Reynolds, if you hadn't passed away this year, he was bringing a bunch of his cars to sell so his one it was a it's a it's abandoned car. It wasn't one of the movie, but it was his it was registered to him. And it went for one hundred forty five thousand. And they had a few other ones, but I would imagine Vegas. They draw a lot of. Oh, no. People who have retired and want to get their things out of the garage. So celebrities, it doesn't surprise me. And. It's just some crazy stuff. So the number one seller was twenty eighteen Porsche nine eighteen spider. One million seven hundred at sixty thousand dollars. I got good taste number two was a twenty eight team. Mclaren seven twenty s for three hundred and fifty two thousand deal I thought so. Wow. And then the third place was ninety nine Shelby series one convertible. They went for two hundred and five thousand seven hundred the fourth place. Car was a sixty seven Shelby Shelby GT five hundred fastback one hundred ninety eight thousand. And then a twenty eighteen dodge challenger s RT. Demon coop went for one hundred ninety eight thousand dollars or well, they didn't wait when they retailed. They were they were not that. There were seventy is. Sure. ES weren't they? So this guy made some good money on that. Oh, yeah. Well, they're remember what they were priced at now. Matchy especially the demon. Yeah. And a number fifth car was Burt Reynolds, seventy eight Pontiac Firebird trans and the band recreation, the own I said what one seventy five, but I guess there must have been some snag land in the back that went to one hundred ninety two thousand five hundred. Oh, wow. Then all my, of course, goes to charity. Nice. And then a seventy one Camaro Chevy Camaro coupe. For hundred ninety two thousand five hundred really me away. Wow. And then seventy one Bill to the hill. It was built was it restored. No. It was built the hill is a pro driver. The door handles were shaved. There was no emblems on it. I mean, this thing was serious rally car, basically. Okay. And then at twenty eight twenty fourteen Rolls Royce wrath for one hundred ninety two five in ninth place was a fifty six Ford F one hundred big window, custom for one hundred eighty one thousand five hundred with that thing was gorgeous. And then there was a tie for tenth sixty five Chevy, corvette coupe for one seventy six and another twenty fifteen Chevy Camaro coupe for one hundred seventy six thousand. So I mean, yeah. That's that's that's pretty crazy. The six charity vehicles which all sold with a no buyers. No buyer fees, no seller fees, which is pretty strong. First place was a fifty six Ford Thunderbird convertible at belong to this families wife and she passed away. So he got the proceeds go to the American Heart Association and the regional west foundations two hundred ninety.

"Space. The final frontier with all due respect to captain Kirk Mr. Spock in the entire crew of the enterprise space may not be the actual final frontier. After all that may have just been created by the folks to Charlotte Motor Speedway. It's called the Roble. And you'll hear it described by the drivers as the known treacherous unforgiving wild. And crazy. We're talking about universal Armageddon. Well, let's not go that far. But today's drivers are approaching this track. Very cautiously. I feel like everybody's gonna get pretty frustrated with how narrow it is and start beating and banging and go from there. I think it's gonna be wild and crazy, and I think we're all little bit unsure and all little bit skeptical, and we're all a little bit nervous. You can be aggressive and find speed. But if you're too aggressive you could kill your car and put yourself out of the race. You know, it's going to be different for sure what exactly it expects? We're not gonna really know until Monday morning afterwards when we can play Monday. Morning quarterback. There'll be a point in that deal where it's like, oh, man. Did we oversell this thing whatever else? And then all of a sudden an untimely caution. Something's going to happen in all hell's going to break loose. It's very narrow. It's just really gonna be tough to get through traffic. If you get set behind I think, it's probably more wild card. The Talladega has been over the years track position will be king at the Royal. And you're gonna have to pull them tight and take that risk free tracks blended into one there's a lot of chatter about the.

"You get to choose countries movies sports or just general trivia that that could be anything. Yeah. Anything under the sun? Well, Hollywood good morning. Good morning guys. How you doing good? The bill. Got a real good thing for Mr. motor coat. I discovered I discovered this channel on YouTube called project farm have you ever heard of. Oh, yeah. Yes. And then you've seen the video. Yeah. It's probably been one hundred people sent it to me. What is it that an amazing thing? Ali would. Yeah. It was pretty good. Well. I don't know. I I was gonna make a request about a trivia question. But I don't I don't know. Probably shouldn't do that. Well, I don't know. Emme NASCAR trivia questions. No, I don't have any NASCAR trivia questions today. Can I provide you provide one? Okay, you can provide one city. All righty. How many drivers how many drivers won the NASCAR Cup series championship? Between the years of two thousand five hundred dollars. I'll g. Seven years. One. Close. Okay. To. Yeah. Jimmy johnson. Tony stewart. So that's that's when Jimmy was on a roll, right? Right. It's a matter of fact, they changed the rules because of him a lot of the rule changes. And he's struggling now because he they figured it out. And yeah, I'm I'm not so sure it was all that fair to them. Outside looking in right now, he's sitting in below the off trouble. For the four outside looking at our Jones, Jerry Johnson Clint Boyer, and then blame these ethnic cutoff spot. So we got this crazy robo coming. I mean, these guys are going to be in fight for their lives to make it to the next round. That's a that's that finally coming up the road. The will thing Pro Bowl is next. Oh, really? And it's a combination oval and road course, they've named the Charlotte Motor Speedway. It's thirteen turns two point four miles. It's all but four hundred feet of the one point two five mile oval. And then there's the base interestingly, there's a thirty five foot elevation change between turn four or ten. So this thing is weird thing about it is if you go to regular road course, like Watkins Glen Arsenova, they have run off that are planned in design. So if you get in trouble, or you, you spend out there are a lot of where you can run off, and you can recover and you can get back in the race. There aren't any. If you hit they've got rubber tires everywhere. As part of the safety barriers. If you hit those rubber tires, you're going bass right back into the traffic, and there's some places. There's a couple there's what are the canes and one of the straight where you can only run single file. So I don't know how. And here's the other thing folks right now, we're sitting at a forty percent chance of rain. It could be you could have to run it with what Steve never gets. They're going to do that. Like the last opportunity. They didn't get the rain there in New York. This is this is what if it rains, they're going? They're going rain tires. That would be really run to what. Yeah. They extremely serious. Don't they? Yeah. Of course. Yeah. Never had a situation. So they got to the the rain tires for for a Cup series. Right. So it could rain right now. That would be interesting. The you know, they've had racetracks like that on the NASCAR video games for years. It'll be interesting. I'm kind of excited is there. Data on the schedule for the playoffs. Oh, sure. Okay. In the second round. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Are you kidding me? They're not gonna miss the. Yeah. Mccarthy's big wildcards this one. Here's the other thing about this one. Everybody's rookie. Been nobody's been nobody's run there. I mean, they they practiced all in all of the practices. Everybody that practice ended up crashing the car at some four really they've been they've been making changes all the way through this thing. I mean, they've they've widened. Some of the terms they've they've they've they painted this whole big area towards the back. If it's the least bit damp, it's gonna be like running on the grass, it's crazy and. They're all terrified. I mean. These people nobody. They've had situations where there's been two or three people or four people on the tracks. They've never had all these cars on that track. They have no race. What's going to happen? So. Maybe it. Well, maybe at least you'll drawl. I mean, unfortunately it Richmond. Their TV rating was one point one. And way, by the way Tigers was five point eight. He had big. NFL you. Oh, he kills killed over. Yeah. Yeah. So I mean. Hollywood. Did you want to select one of the categories that had for you coming up here? We might as well. I know you're okay. Right there. We'll come back with that on ATM. "You're eighty eight thousand square feet of synthetic turf. Yes, scribe it. Yeah. Now last week it Las Vegas. Unfortunately. Denny Hamlin was the latest victim of having a splitter explode through the grass. Is that or grass. Yeah, and screwed it up. Is that not going to happen now with this type of surfaces that sort of the anticipation, if a car spins through there, it won't ruin someone's day. So we installed the first bid of turf prior to the may races. So it was there coming out of turn for. We had the synthetic turf on the ground in that area where the front stretch chicane as for the all star race and the coke, six hundred. We had cars crashed through. We had red hot break, Roeder's land in it. We had, you know, sliding cars, racing cars, everything, and we didn't have any issues with it. So that was kind of our Guinea pig test opportunity. And it worked so well, then we decided to go ahead and finish off the rest of the infield. And are you expecting to take that elsewhere? Atlanta is other places. I don't know. It's it's possible it's it is very expensive. The reason that we did it in Charlotte was because of the road course. When you go through that, that chicane on the front stretch, it was clear that cars will be getting off the course and they would be getting into the natural turf and if cars are getting in the natural turf for as part of the race, I didn't wanna have to pause for clean up, you know, dirt debris, and certainly, you know, hitting the splitters and that sort of thing sending the cars directly through the grass is part of the course. So I felt like, you know, this would be good opportunity to try this out. Actually, Kevin Harvick deserves all the credit on this. He, he introduced me to one of the sponsors fields incorporated Brian storm and his crew in cinema, like two years ago. And when he first brought it up, he said, you know, you should think about putting in this turf instead of the grass. And I said, we'll my my first suggestion would be not hit the grass. We're friends, you know, and I, I just said, think of the grass, like the wall, you don't wanna hit you. The one, keep the car on the track, but he introduced me to to sponsor Brian storm fields Inc. And when we started making the improvements with the road course and in in the chicane was coming into play. I thought this is a perfect application opportunity for for the turf and it were great. I was super happy about it. I mentioned the red hot brake rotor. This stuff is so amazing. It's got like a two thousand degree flashpoint, it's very special. There's nothing else like it in North America. It's specially made for us in a racing application. And so when that brake rotor hit the turf, it didn't catch on fire it just melted and stuck to the to the turf go in, cut it out. And it's gone, hopefully, limiting the debris field and allowing guys to continue because we expect that some cars will have some. It's fossils some crash? Yes. Some. Are you hoping it rains? No, not at all. Not at all. Sure. Sure. Definitely. I don't want to rain. I mean, I wouldn't mind just for the fun of trying out the the rain tires of its sprinkled for maybe ten minutes to cool people off, but they can have offense. I totally think of that. I wanted to have a lot of fun. All right. Well, where she much luck with it. Thanks for spending so much time and giving us some insight here. Marcus, really appreciate having you. "I ran it by a few people. They seemed really, you know, excited about it. That was encouraging. Was it encouraging from the perspective of it seems as if a lot of people say, I've written this that road courses for like the new short tracks that fans really to get behind it. That was a factor that was a factor, hearing all the positive feedback about road courses. I'm a huge fan. I loved what I saw on cinema Watkins Glen for the last several years. It's been really fun to watch. They are the new short tracks when the drivers go so fast on a mile and a half. Yeah, they're going to eight going into the term. Turn. You don't have as many inputs driver can steer the car, use the break and use the accelerator. You're going to space as the car can go. The pedal is down to the floor at barely comes up and to the driver is basically not using the break hardly using the accelerator and steering. Now that change a little bit this year with the aero package where they actually have to get on the break at some of the mount, a half's pretty good and their speeds get down two hundred and fifty five miles an hour, and then they're back backup the two, oh, five going to turn, which is banal. But I think one of the one of the really cool things about a road course and short track is that breaking an accelerating and steering all come into play in a much more substantial way every single lap. And that really puts a lot more of the race in the driver's hand. Is this the easiest way then? Do you think to get short-track action without doing a total reconfiguration of attract into short-track, like without having to do with that? This was definitely not easy. A lot of money in a lot of time. A lot of time a lot of perfecting and tweaking its significant. I think it would have been easier to make a different track and it was substantial, but it's exciting, I think, yeah. How cool is it for for fans that come to Charlotte Motor Speedway, you get these three distinct races? I think that's pretty cool. I loved watching practice when when all the teams were here a few weeks ago, just watching practice was super fun. I felt the same way about practice for the all star race when the teams are out there with the all star package and watching that you could tell right away, there's going to be a good race, and I feel the same way about the wroval I would love to see Marcus NASCAR. Look at the possibility of maybe doing a street course. I heard you mention Monaco. Could this be a blueprint for running a street course race for NASCAR? If it works here without drivers, retiring. Right afterward could could it maybe looked at is like. Hey, maybe we can take to the streets of New York or Seattle or wherever from your standpoint, covering it no problem for driver driving the course not really a problem, but hosting the race, big problem with street courses you they're credibly expensive to put on their temporary. So you have no benefit to amortize expense over years. Streak courses just tend to fail. I'm not a fan of courses for that purpose. It's interesting. They're just incredibly expensive and bad business models. So I think things that are good for NASCAR as a sport over all need also be good for the business of the sport. So for fan and media peel, they're great. I don't even think they're all that great for fancy one of the great things about the wroval is.

"So my dad and Rick Hendrick were we're talking and they said, you know, we, we need to revive the, of course, for testing they were thinking about, you know, driving. Sports car driving and manufacturer car testing. So we started working on just improving modernizing the infield road course. I thought it was a great idea thought it'd be fun. Nothing else would be a place to go drive, you know, some fast cars and enjoy it October. Think of twenty fifteen or twenty sixteen actually I thought, you know, this race need something special. We've got the NASCAR all star race, and may we have the shortest race in NASCAR for a million bucks to win. Then he had the coq six hundred nascar's longest race, one of the most prestigious races in the world. And then in October, we have this Bank of America five hundred. It was really overshadowed by the other two races in my office is kind of up on the roof and I can see everything really well, and I saw brand new road course in the infield and I thought, hey, I got an idea. This is ridiculous. Why don't we have a revived the old road course and the wroval and in race. NASCAR on the rebel, 'nother thing that sort of pushed me that way as I listening to so many. So many fans and drivers talk about where they wanted a road course in the playoffs. And you probably wrote many stories about that, hey, we need a road course in the playoffs. And I thought, well, this would sort of kill two birds. One stone you take out an intermediate Mouna half and you add in a road course you know, mission accomplished aunt. That's how it kind of happened. Was Steve O'Donnell? Was your first call? I called Steve Steven talk. You know, quite often I called Steve and said, are you sitting down. And it's not the first crazy idea run by him. So I talked to Steve and said, here's my idea. He said, man, that's a crazy idea. But I kinda like it. You know, just kept pushing from there. Was there any moment which she thought this isn't going to happen? There's too much resistance. I, we can't overcome this hurdle where this obstacle. So from the point of talking to Steve about it, I talked with our are headed development guy named Steve swift, and I did a quick sort of feasability study. Could we do this? What would we deem to do? And that took about a week once we had a plan on how to do it and just the fact that we used to run the camel GT here, you know, on the course already told me that we could do it. It's just a matter of, you know, some safety elements, what it would cost to put all that together and modern modern has everything. But once we got there, I saw the goal and kept running hard towards it. I want to give you some. Credit markets because a lot of tracks are afraid sometimes to make changes because there's going to be a tacit admission. When you make those changes of what's existing in place now isn't working. And one of the benefits of this is taking a mile and a half track. There's so many mile and a half drugs in the playoffs and removing it from the equation in terms of the championship and adding something that's really challenging. It was a difficult I guess for you, your staff, your dad, whoever to kind of admit that Charlotte Motor Speedway, which is synonymous with NASCAR racing and oval racing, maybe doesn't need to oval races. You know, this was really about making something better, special indifferent happen with the fall race. You know, we have this great unique thing with the all star race and the great unique thing happening with coq six hundred. And then you know, just running the five hundred on traditional oval. I just felt like what else could we do it just all sort of unfolded in front of me because we already had the road course, we'd already done a lot of work on it and and it was ready to, you know, it's a fantastic professional road course is really about making it more special. I feel really good about it. I thought it was exciting..

"Did he advise a little bit on some infield camping? He did. He did, Yeah, yeah. how that he said before he got in the car. First of all, he said before he, he agreed to the the drive. He said, I'll do it, but I want to drive a Porsche nine eighteen Bob. Lots who works with Mario said, Mario wants to drive a nine eighteen and I think you know where you can get once. So it happens that my brother had a Porsche nine eighteen at the time. And I said, listen, that is crazy. Like I haven't driven that car. I'm afraid the drive that car. It's a, it's a million dollar car. The only made nine hundred and eighteen of them. You know, we're in the car business. My brothers are and everything. And so they had this vehicle and and I said, well, I'm not driving it, but, but I'll check and and then my brothers, both both said, yeah, let's do it. You know, Mario and I'll have one of them rode my brother David road along with Mario, which was extremely brave and crazy. At the same time, I think David. Made the mistake of asking Mario, not to push it too hard. He just did the opposite. Oh, yeah. I mean they were going very fast. I mean, well, over one hundred fifty miles an hour through the track. And this is a just a supercar and so Mario before he drove it. He said, I'm gonna drive it and I'll give you the feedback. And if I like it, I'll tell everybody else if I don't like it, I won't tell anybody, but you. Which is fantastic. You know, kind of my hope really. So he had two things, three things. One. He said, it's amazing. It's it's way better than I thought it was going to be. He was really surprised by the elevation changes and the camera and the turns and and that sort of thing. And then he said the infield, you need to create an infield camping area because that's what that's what all the great road courses in Europe. Have you have an area where all the fans are right in the middle and in a makes a lot more fun. And, and the third thing he said is needed chicane on the backstretch. You know, the time we didn't have a chicane on the backstretch, and I said, why do you wanna chicane on the backstretch? And he said, you're going to fast, it's it's just too fast. And I said, well, I liked to fast. I've never heard of too fast. And you know, as I said, a driver and he, he said, no, you need, you need. That chicane. And so you know, that was in my mind and sure enough, you know, we came back after some testing with with Goodyear and the teams, and and they said, you know, if we don't have a chicane, then we're going to need to make the tire so hard that it really won't be very good on the infield road course area, you know, which is a choice, but it may not be the best choice. So so we went ahead and added chicane on the backstretch which actually works out fine because it's it allows us to have more competitive passing on the infield and you get another passing point on the track, which is pretty cool. Any chance we'll see Mario here next weekend, man, I hope so. That would be awesome. Yes, he's definitely invited. I need to check the RSVP's. So take me back to the beginning markets like the Genesis of this entire concept. The first idea, the first phone call first reaction from NASCAR. How did it start was, was it you was kind of the impetus for all this happening or when when I was a kid, I used to love coming to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the cable GT race. This was an like what is today? IMSA sure. Racing on basically the same course ninety percent of it is the same course and we haven't had the cable GT back here. I think since the eighties that was a sports car sports car racing. I mean, Rick Hendrick competed with with a corvette sports car. You had, you know, the the Porsches and the Jaguars all these great twenty four hour, Lama type cars that were racing..

"He said many times in meetings that I would tag along with with my dad on, you know, when the drivers are happy, the the fans aren't. Yeah. So I, you know, my goal is not at all to, you know, to make drivers upset. It's it's kind of interesting when I was when I was younger watching like Talladega and Bristol was always fun and drivers always complain about those tracks. I mean, your buddy, Cal petty, you know, wanted to fill Bristol up and make it a bass fishing tournament. But at some point it changed and drivers started saying, oh, I liked Talladega. Oh, I like Bristol. And that was sort of a change in in tone from from drivers, I thought was kind of interesting, but when the drivers come here next week, you know, I I know that that there's a chance we might. We might make some of mad and that's the intensity of the playoffs. The intensity of the track. Do you feel like you've gotten drivers to kind of buy in then Marcus on this being a good thing, even if they leave here angry because they understand, as you said, it's something fresh. It's something different. You know, guy like Harvick is out there saying we need to rotate the championship rates. Right? Keep rise fresh, right. So have they learned, I guess, to kind of buy in on this concept because they've you it through that same prism of maybe we need to change everything up, eat necessarily bad for us. And what is that shift? Why do you think drivers have have come around on that? Well, I don't know if they are buying in honestly, to. To the rove. I think some of them have made a conscious decision to focus on doing well, and I was able to observe that during testing here few weeks ago and in there was a difference between the people who came here with an intention to to conquer it. Right. And that was really interesting to observe, and it was drivers and teams working really hard to make it happen. There was a lot of resistance around this. I mean, we months and months and months ago there was a lot of resistance. It was. It was interesting and challenging. We made it through and I think it's going to be fantastic. I can't wait. Fans are excited. I mean every every fan that I talked to, we have some fans that are saying they're, they're not too excited about it, but overwhelming majority you look at the ticket report. We've got a whole lot of people come to this race. It's gonna be exciting. Are you guys ahead of where you were. I'm sure are bigger crowd. Yes. Yeah, we definitely are expected to bigger crowd. So you mentioned Marcus that you had to postpone this from twenty. Seventeen. You said there was some resistance? Yes. Who was that? Drivers was owners. It was a combination drivers. Owners manufacturers. There was also some timing, you know, we, we were talking about this in in in February for the following October. So there's a lot of sort of timing objectives to that. And so we got, you know, way ahead of it eighteen months or more. And so that that helps a lot since then we've had Goodyear Tire testing. We've had drivers out to give us some feedback on the course. I love all the the work that's gone into building this course has been awesome. I mean, I've had Mario Andretti out. He's given us some hot laps in his priceless feedback on the course. We've had Jeff Gordon's involvement max Pappas it's it has been. Been really, really fantastic to have so much input from legends of the sport. Yeah, certainly a sage like Mario Andretti is going to have some good advice for you all these years racing die here correctly..

"Also, the question was, what's the most treacherous part of this track and Harvick was not the only one. I think we had Kyle Busch and Ryan Blaney. We had three or four of the people who said the most treacherous part is the entire track. Yeah. So when you hear that, is that mission accomplished for. Show Motor Speedway. Don't you went here? You know, I did not set out to have a a treacherous road course. What what I set out to do is do something different and amazing, and it's something that you know for me as a fan I would enjoy. And I think we're going to get that the intention of the Roble is that it is a world class road course. We have gone to extreme lengths to make it a fantastic road course challenging. Yes, it is absolutely challenging. You know, Monaco is challenging our course is wider than Monaco where f one races on one of their most story, the events of the year same day as a coke, six hundred and Indy five hundred. You know, there is no forgiveness on that course. I think it's very appropriate that when NASCAR comes to the Bank of America Rover, four hundred, we're going to see these world class championship. Drivers on this very difficult, challenging and demanding road course that it was brand new. And I think the fact that is brand new really adds a lot of complexity. Kind of like when I go to a brand new city, I don't like to drive in a brand new city out. I don't know my way around, you know you, you get lost easy you, you don't know the turns quite as as well. So I think that's is much of anything is just getting used to your breaking marks your where you sell the rate, the right lines. For the turns. There's so many unknowns, you know, we'll see the greatest drivers in the world. Greatest teams in the world, get pushed to the and agree and is a fan. I'm super excited to see that unfold. Now, usually markets when you hear drivers talk in those terms, it tends to come with a lot more derision and a lot more negatively. And this seems to be, hey, we don't know what to expect. And we kind of like that. Is that a credit to you, your staff, NASCAR for sort. Preparing drivers that embrace the unknown. This is what we want. If you're not necessarily comfortable with this track than we've done what we were setting out to do here, I guess it's not unexpected. Ironically, we were ready to do this last year. So this whole project has been like three years in the making. We, I really wanted to do it in twenty seventeen after a meeting with some of the team owners in NASCAR in February of twenty seventeen. We decided to to postpone to eighteen, which is fine, and it's given us more time to perfect the course even more. But so it's been something that everybody's kind of known about for quite some time and it's been there to to look at and to to work on. And I think as we've gotten closer and closer that kind of intensity ratchets up anymore, there's some people who believe that there is an inversely proportional theory in. Pass car racing that was bad for drivers or what might be perceived as bad for Dr actually good for fans. Yeah. T- Wayne Robertson is, I think the one that sort of started that RJ Reynolds. Maybe it was built junior and I'm not sure, but always always ascribed that he Wayne and he would..

"Those honors is right across me Marcus Smith. Hey, thanks for being here. Thank you. Nate appreciated. This is a fun time. I, I don't like to think of it being a week and a half away. I like to think of it as being like tomorrow. We've got so many things to all this little details to finish up and everybody's working really hard and having your certainly have been, I think the dominant focus of the conversation here really since the playoffs began. I mean, I know there was a lot of chatter going into Las Vegas about the heat. A lot of chatter coming out of that race about the way it unfolded and obviously people this week. We're talking about Richmond, but your race I think has gotten a lot of talk. And as I presume, that's exactly how you would plant it, you know, I mean to to start the year off, I think immediately tour. We had a lot of discussion about the role there was, you know, talks about it when we did some testing. We had some tire testing here. We've done various tweaks to the track, so we've certainly stayed in the conversation throughout the season and then definitely last week in Vegas, the media day on Thursday. There's a lot of discussion and a lot of laughs around. How drivers feel about coming here to the wroval and it's going to be awesome. I I am. I'm very, very pleased with everything and I can't wait to see the race. It was a major topic on playoff media at Las Vegas. Last week, Marcus. I'm gonna read you quote from Kevin Harvick a, this is what he told us in a sit down with NBC sports. I think the treacherous part of the course is the whole course. I don't think there's really a safe spot on the course of my God. You know, as far as where you're going to pass that, I don't really know the answer to either. I think there's so many unknowns until we actually go do it and see what happens at the ruble. I think everybody is going to be a little bit unsure of what they need to do. There's so many unknowns. I don't have any answers for yes, and I will had several other drivers..

"Monday presented by outback steakhouse. Taking a look at what just happened in Richmond, raceway and once about the happen at the Rover oval rove Aleutian, it is Charlotte Motor Speedway presents the role. And did you see? I'm sure you did Martin tricks. Juniors comment when they asked him after the Richmond race. Now you get to go to the Roble and he goes, he. It's going to be unexpected. I think nobody really knows what we're going to face when we go to the robo, but that's something to keep an eye on as we move through the week here. But first Richmond, we had Christopher bell winning the first playoff race on the Finnity side. He said the schedule didn't really line up well for him through road core season on the expenditure side. Now he's back to some tracks. He feels comfortable at he wins and advances to round number two on the Cup side. Kyle Busch comes from last to first and he sweeps both races this season on the Cup side at Richmond, and he now goes along to round two with your guy, Brad, kiss. Last, you know, when we talk about the unknowns, Richmond actually had an unknown status around it because we weren't kind of sure how Richmond was going to be raced because of the next race and normally in these playoff point, round stages, segments, chase events that Talladega is the unknown, right? So everybody. Goes into Talladega with unknown, but we rent everybody squawked about it being cut off race, and now it's a middle middle rain around, but everybody would race Talladega as an unknown only. We didn't race the race before it. Well, the wroval is such an unexpected race because we haven't been there. We've only tested there that everybody thought Richmond would be a little more aggressive or important. But what we ended up seeing was everybody was careful once they got into a certain position. It was like, okay, we're here were safe. That's it. Did a little bit. You know, the racing I thought was still very good. The track very wide. There was a lot of battling for positions, but there wasn't that aggressive nature that we tend to see in the spring race at Richmond were a little more beaten banging. Couple more cautions. We only had one guy spin out and caused a caution Denny spun it off. A Ford didn't cause a caution, but the strategy really played out you guys, you had guys that had pitted trying to get on tires again. Good. Your did an amazing job of bringing a tire that fell off. F- new tires guys get almost make up a whole apps. We saw multiple strategies in the stages, some guys pitted and use new tires to catch back up. Did they handle it? Did that after his spin, it didn't want up having a good race, but he got some stage points in that stage when after spun and then you saw the leaders stay out and just run the whole hundred laps on the set of tires that they were able to do at a much slower pace. So it was interesting concept, but Richmond re we really thought we were going to see a little more action relative to people getting hurt on their in maneuvers, right? We didn't see that. We really just saw a race play out as a good race. Martin tricks, junior came back finished in the top three little. He's happy because Kevin Harvick Kevin harvick's in another top ten top ten top three, right? Kyle. Busch came from the back after scrubbing the wall and qualifying. So obviously we had really, really good racing. The car had a good chance led numerous laps. We actually got behind a little bit on being able to adjust the car Austin Dillon again, a very unusual. You. We haven't seen a whole lot of him all this year after his teammate announced this year, he's leaving to go to rouse Fenway with ride Newman Austin Dillon rant in the top ten all evening, Eric, Amaral all. So the couple of surprises with performance, but really the surprise or lack of them was a number of cautions that we didn't have. All right, Kyle, Busch, as we said, goes to victory lane again, second time he's done it at Richmond. Let's hear what he had to say. Afterward..

"Able to to get back on the lead lap and in cell would you fourteenth out of it so all in all could have been a lot worse but they just tough deal with you know having that loose wheel and with everything going on pit row these days it's we've been pretty good and i praise my pit crew they've done a great job today you know but we just had a we had a little air there on saturday night chatted with paul wolfe crew chief for brackets laskey hit it off into the all star break this weekend and charlotte motor speedway in a lot of things are going to be different paul can you tell us what's going to be different about your race cars this weekend and the aero package that you're going to be utilizing for the all star race yeah there's a there's a lot different it's it's pretty unique i'd say i don't know that we've ever had anything like this it's like a mix between you know what we have now and speedway racing the best i can tell the moment and with with without any track testing and stuff i think there's there'll be a lot of unknowns but basically you know for the most part we're going to be running you know the same engine package if you will that we would run at daytona or talladega so very restricted lower horsepower but then on the aero side of it as you look at a speedway car that we would take the daytona or talladega they're very you know low on down for and we try to really you know keep keep drag out of them for that top speed well this package that we're going to run here has almost just the the opposite it's it's got a lot of downforce i wouldn't say double what we have now but a good chunk more than what we have now but it also has a lot of dragging so i would expect you know under normal circumstances that cars would would drive very well they'll be able to run wide open around the race track which will keep the cars in a tight pack.
