"Still have a fourteen percent chance of getting. Into, what do they have with a nine percent chance tonight? So they had ninety one percent. Let's look the other way ninety one percent chance not to get the number one pick. So that's a better way to look at it and to be quite honest the what they really need is to stop caring when they lose because as long as James Dolan who has not just the New, York, Knicks, but all you know there's All these other things he has other business and other income as long as the income is steady. A massive drop off he. What does it matter if we get eight? That's what if we get the eighth pick that we keep on rolling we every everything just keeps going. So what they need to do Mark Titus is the the apathy needs to to speak so many volumes that it it reverberates all the way through. So James Dolan can hear that is any my care but until that point, he doesn't care but I think that. Misery Loves Company and the Knicks that they have they loved to wait in the misery together. In fact, the Knicks became good I would be pressed to find many knicks fans that would know the starting five if tirees Haliburton was the best player in the Knicks I, don't think that they would be gung Ho and talking about tires Halliburton but I could be wrong I hope that we have a chance to see something like that where they mixed comparison I'm putting it out there tires Halliburton to the knicks seems like a good fit he's one of the best players in the draft you need a point guard take him. Here's a comparison. The Knicks are Indiana. The Knicks are I. Accept like. The Knicks fans both at the state is true. Instead of like we deserve this. Why do you deserve it? You're like because I said so and we? Met Yeah, yeah we are. We are basketball can't exist close your eyes and picture basketball without us. You're like, all right done. What's the Big Jonathan Cooper? The Knicks are you it's like, yeah. Well, yeah. Anyway. That's becoming frustrating every year you know what's great is that I called the Knicks Kentucky and then. You kidding me every year the lottery happens the Knicks fans pretend like they were screwed because they had like three percent chance to get the number one picking it didn't happen and that's proof that God hates the Knicks and nothing good will ever happen the next. Meanwhile, the Hornets have to remind people even exists. Thank you got the Goddamn Pacers getting a four seat at every playoffs remind tire life losing the first or second round and every. So often, Paul George comes along a Reggie Miller comes along and you lose to one of the goats in the conference finals and that's like Whoa. We did it took. Like we got there we got the mountaintop we didn't look around for God's Sakes. The really are like five basketball franchises that are like I love my franchise and it's been a lot of fun being a fan of this team. The rest. Yes absolutely sucks wide. Why does God hate us is what everyone says, but the Knicks fans pretend they're the only ones I learned a lot tonight about the NBA Pendulum and this brings up a great point what you're talking about like who's in who's out and what I learned as we did our ESPN pan around and we got to Brad dirty looks like no one alerted him that he was on camera yet love Brad daugherty number one pick one of the greatest nascar analysts you ever find and basketball players they show him Cleveland is out the pendulum has swung back the other way Lebron James Brought Cleveland back. He kicked Charlotte to the curb for a whole decade he was like Charlotte can exist and. Thrive can only be one small market that can do well in a place like Ohio Place North Carolina place like Louisiana you can only pick one or the other Charlotte is now in Charlotte is in the top four Cleveland sitting on the outside at five. Get Him. OUTTA, here, Charlotte takes their spot. The goat is back give him his crown that was the best part of the night. I was like Chicago's back in Charlotte's backing. Golden. State we know they're Minnesota. They're trying to make something happen with that two thousand, fifteen draft there. They keep trying to make Devon Booker and Karl Anthony. Towns, Indiana Russell worker happen or whatever they're trying to make fetch happen I'm just going to happen But they are in you know and that war that four is in and I saw Brad daugherty is is huge just like man I think we're out and. We're. CLEVELAND. I just I pour one out for Cleveland everytime. I think about Cleveland. They've just gone through. Can you imagine if core years ago they were in the finals and they warn Mark Titus if the cavs win the title Twenty Sixteen which they were what twenty seconds away from now invention away. Yeah got. You know how close they were down. Oh my God. How do you might as well fold the franchise with what happened did you have Lebron leave twice to not WanNa tell you though to now like what to to hire A sixties to be the new head of your franchise and lead you into the next phase, the Post Lebron world, and then he's like fired or resigned. He's like I can't take a half sees that he's like all right about Oh my God. Yeah it would. It would it would be a disaster but now everyone can point to it'd be like well, you won the title in two thousand, sixteen stop complaining exactly exactly and that's that's the curse like that is going to end up being one of the most curse titles of all time I feel like if the world exists in only one thirty we're going to look like, can you believe in two thousand sixteen, the CAVS won the title. Really. Really is. A one final note on the lottery they need a new process they need I don't like the envelopes I. Don't I I, love the h. l. where the ball you do a live. We'll do it live. Let's do life. Rigged, Mark. That's what I'm saying we need some trick. The pendulum has swung. The POWERS THAT BE HAVE SPOKEN CHARLOTTE IS IN CLEVELAND IS OUT I. Don't I don't understand the argument for not doing it live other like if you're not rigging it, you have to do it live right Right like what I don't I don't get it. Is it? Is it like an article that Cleveland Calling Cleveland pleading the fifth? That can't say anything I think it's an urge erste young Dang like they ernst and young demands that they get a guy there who puts gloves on and gets to carry the envelopes from the back room to the podium, and they pay like five million dollars for the right to do that and I think that's really what it is. I mean on I. Think you're right there would be some some better TV because like I don't WanNa see Mark Martinez, you seem like a nice enough guy whatever our tatum seems like you and I like mix together in people's heads. Morte to be honest he seems a little too happy to be. There is a dial a bet he really does like a guy that's like off the street and they threw a suit. He's like Oh my God I'm doing the lottery is like all right number fourteen, the Boston Celtics. Mardi back a little bit dude you can't be that. When he chose like Sacramento for example, it's like they cut the deer and Fox and he's obviously not happy. Pray Weaver with the Pistons he's not excited he's like that. Sucks. Why I want to see a five star recruit dude this way wouldn't that be awesome like the recruits have tapped into every other way to. Get A guy with to come out with envelopes and have a podium hire more tatum have Martinez, doing. And the number five school and the Josh Anderson Sweepstakes Marquette. Sorry you're not going to. Come to. Joe. Turned officer during his campaign..

"Third Pick to the Hornets he has he has a wide range there, and then the the Ob top who we both love here as dating basketball fans you see him sometimes flared up to even as high as the number two pick and even as low as the seventeenth big. There's such a range of who you actually value and then I think a lot of the GM's are playing the the guessing game I guess because people any our head wait and see. But you're going to see me when I turn it away. Yeah. Wait till I don't you twenty eight percent well, he's GonNa talk yourself into a lot of guys when there's not a a premier guy that you know isn't Anthony Davis town. There's a lot of fringe guys like the kid from USC The power forward I. Can't remember his name but he I've seen him up as high as number two on a lot of people's lists. Kuro WHO's at Auburn? Is another guy that's a top five pick for some people you know and that's I find it fascinating. But lamelo ball is really the talk. He's the only one I think that gets the people going whether you know it's it's provocative right? lamelo ball is provocative that people either upset on one side of the equation or they're looking at you like how could you not pass up the singular town? Who is you know Anthony Davis or whatever there's some people that believe that he is yeah. I think Lamelo Ball has the highest ceiling. Which got I. I'm so excited original draft time already say. Lowest floors and I do they lamelo could could be like I don't know but I I don't know if the timber wolves. But Basque we don't worry about this. Anymore I was gonNA say like, does he play? What would he play well with the Ngelo Russell I don't see that working Lamelo ball and Diangelo Russel whereas Anthony Edwards like I. Think I think if you're drafting for fit Anthony, Edwards is the guy. But Man I i. think it's GonNa end up being Lamelo I like I think the hype is GonNa get out of control like the lake people are just GonNa talk themselves into and he's got the he's got the the you Ma- maybe maybe there's just stick where you and I complain about guys a player overseas but he's got that that factor of like playing in Australia people are going to pretend like you're watching this what season we're in we're in the the pretend like you're watching I have I. Have scouted that game. Yes. Pretend like I have a synergy account I've been breaking down the tape on all these guys and all that kind of stuff. That's why I feel like the buzz around the Melo is going to grow because it's so much Lamelo I if you're if you're a talking head talking about the draft and you come out with like facts and figures about Lamelo Ball, it's a way to flex and be like I'm smarter than all of you because I broke down his team when he was playing. These games and you know and if you're like I, like Anthony Edwards. No one cares no one really cares about that. No. One's trying to hear that. Lamelo Ball. I don't know I think I think he's GonNA end up being. Normal, I think I think I just talked myself into that even though I wouldn't do that if I was I would do Anthony Edwards that's what I'm saying. But like but but at the end of the day that to me feels like a Joe Borough number-one pick where you know or Baker Mayfield number-one pick where you kinda go with your gut, it's not the mere talent. But if you are the Minnesota Timberwolves, you say, we want this guy in the building we want him to be on our team and we'll figure out the pieces from there. But when you have the number one pick and you put the pressure like what we saw Markelle folds man when you're the number one pick and then everyone. Is All eyes on you you're Anthony Edwards, you twenty eight percent when you're going Shabina and now you're getting guarded by Klay. Thompson and all these other two guards that are destroying to go at you and that that's a different environment like I feel for Minnesota. In fact, the most interesting part of the draft was the final four when they cut down the final four and it's like Chicago is there, which is like the bull seeing that everyone wants to be good again because the NBA Chicago Market. We Love Chicago here on this program that let us do a live show there in Chicago Zanies. It was good to see them and they will get devante Graham the most improved player sitting there with all the good luck in the world has has like you said, made history got them into the top three out of nowhere they the six percent chance for pick at that point you got steph curry with corn rose trying to pay homage to Alan Iverson, and also he would rather have been anywhere else in the world that. Have when they showed the Larry O'Brien trophies I'm like I think Steph one of those to be with him but I'm glad that you guys still did that and then we cut them down and get the final two staffers, his own, his old teammate, Diangelo Russel, and the other day it looks like versus the franchise that passed up on him twice. Yeah. The franchise that drafted every other guard in his draft. They're like we won't tell us. We Will Johnny Will Ricky Rubio we won't Wayne Ellington overstepping period they they wanted to three point specialist Millington over three point specialists, right so this is he's sitting there with that. They're also playing bubble like bubble basketball, these not a part of and then I think the. Best Case for the warriors like you said, they get the Steph gets the bow out says, say his goodbyes and then Golden State Warriors get the best seat in the house, which is we can trade back and we want to but we also have Minnesota to decide who the best player the draft is and then we get the best player I mean yeah. Well everyone's saying. By, everyone I mean, like the four people I saw said the Weizmann to the warriors, the warriors the warriors have already kind of come out and said, we were interested trade into pick because the warriors unlike a lot of these teams at the top of the draft board. The warriors are pretty good on their franchise that knows what they're doing their franchises in win. Now Mode, they are not in the lottery because they suck is a franchise, the because guys were hurt. So it stands to reason that the words you're GonNa be pretty good next year they don't need to rebuild around a Lamelo Ball Ernie Anthony Edwards. So they would take the guy that like is the best fit which is probably James Wiseman, which is interesting because James Wiseman on most people's big boards James Wiseman is not like. The, the some people have them in the number one discussion, but.
Charlotte Hornets suspend broadcaster after he uses N-word in tweet
"Charlotte Hornets radio announcer John Fox pulled out his phone and made two errors in rapid succession to keystrokes, Fox said in our interview Tuesday, that's all it took to change what would have been a forgettable tweet into one. He calls a horrible mistake. Those two keystrokes got Fox suspended indefinitely by the Hornets on Tuesday and have put his job in jeopardy. Fox said he meant to write. Shotmaking in this jazz Nuggets game is awesome. Murray and Mitchell going back and forth. What a game. Instead he wrote exactly that, Except instead of the word nuggets, he typed the plural form of the n word.

Michael Jordan used ‘The Last Dance’ to prod his Charlotte Hornets players
"Michael Jordan is doubling down explain Daniel so this is great so according to divide take Graham the Charlotte Hornets point guard who happens to also be a J. hawk rock chalk Jayhawk after the last dance documentary Michael Jordan had a zoom call with all his players on the Charlotte Hornets and one of his messages to them was I want you to treat each other the way I treated my teammates I want you to call each other out I want you to be comfortable calling your teammates out it's going to make you guys better you're going to bond better it'll make you stronger they'll be more respect I don't want you not saying anything I don't want you guys letting each other mess up over and over again and then you keep losing losing and losing so we thought maybe Michael Jordan would be a little bit embarrassed about the way he was portrayed in the documentary we thought maybe Michael Jordan would be well I kinda didn't treat guys as kind as I should've known Michael George do the opposite Michael Jordan's telling the guys on the team he owns I want you all to treat each other the way I treated my teammates that's the standard of the Charlotte Hornets that's what we strive for

Rex Chapman: The Content We're Here For
"I want you to open twitter. Look at your time line and tell me what you're seeing. I'm seeing pandemics and I'm seeing politics and I'm seeing. Maybe a little bit of Tom Brady in Tampa Bay which is might be the weirdest part of the whole thing and then I'm seeing a guy in the rain running into a stop sign and I'm seeing a kid getting smacked in the face by an elephant and I'm seeing another kid given out free. Hugs at nursing homes and That's that's what I'm looking for. Where are you seeing this? I'm seeing that from the most unlikely source. I think maybe ever which is At Rex Chapman Ryen. Which do I notice rex? Chapman popping up on your timeline. It was probably a year ago in the spring of Twenty nineteen and I started to get the texts from friends who were saying. Have you seen this video? And have you seen that video? And have you seen? Who is posting these videos? I'm part of this generation where I remember. Rex Chapman as Mr Kentucky basketball. I mean this must be the greatest high school basketball player that ever lived and then he's the first draft pick of the Charlotte Hornets and then he's in he's the white dude in the dunk contest. And then he's hanging thirty nine on Jordan. What he's with the Miami Heat he's Rexon. He's King Rex. He's sexy rexy and I'm like there's no way this is the same rex. Chapman has to be this other. Shabina out there. That just happens to be some borrow twitter superstar and it turns out they are the exact same person I think. A lot of people seeing XS tweets for the first time had a similar reaction but I also find it very funny that some people may be in their twenties and younger might not even know who rex. Chapman is or they just think. Oh yeah the guy on twitter. You does the videos so Ryan. Let's educate them and refresh people's memories. Take us back to Kentucky late. Nineteen Eighty S. What was rex? Mania Steel Diaper Dandy. That's going to be one of the all time legend the perspective. I'll give you that. I was a north Carolinian living all tobacco road and REX. Chapman was the guy that you made. Sure you got back to your television by eleven o'clock to see sportscenter just to see what he had done he just was. It was electrified. He was so smooth he was dribble behind his back. He was dishing the ball he was Dunkin. He was doing everything that require. Frankly white dude's weren't doing in college basketball that time and this is before the Internet before you could go on Youtube and post. Your own highlight video. People had heard about him but they hadn't seen him so any chance. You had to watch this kid from Kentucky. Play Ball you did it. He was foul before viral was thing. You've been under incredible pressure. And yet you just go on with life every day even though you're probably the biggest folk hero. I guess it's Cogan. Robert Disagree with that. I don't know I just take day by day. So rex was this huge star. And as you mentioned being Kentucky there was a massive spotlight on him. How did he handle that? He handled it by Kinda circle in his own wagons for me. I just wanted to play basketball. And that's it the playing part at Kentucky no problem I loved it. I was good at it. Could handle it no worries it was off court stuff. That really weighed on me. He didn't go to the cafeteria He tried to go to bars with his teammates and he was met at the door by the balancer. Who wrecks man? I'd love Login here. But everyone knows you are if I let you in here. The police will be here in four minutes. It just was it was it was a lonely existence surrounded by people all the time but alone every moment every minute that I wasn't in class or at practise either hsun by myself or sleeping and I was I think I was rationalizing as I'm getting my rest but I was depressed than just in you know back then. You didn't talk about that stuff. He believed that eighteen nineteen years old. He was just getting his rest. But the reality was He was dealing with depression by just going to sleep St cope with it. He started playing horses. He did what everyone in Kentucky does and He started playing the horses. A pretty young age and That was another time and place where he could feel normal. You know he could go to the horse track and he could put his face. You know in that race inform and everybody else's word about their race informs and they won't bother him so after his sophomore off more year REX declares for the NBA draft and he ends up with the brand new expansion Charlotte Hornets for the eighth in the draft and their first in the NBA. The Charlotte Hornets Select Rex. Chapman of Kentucky. What was that like a? It is hard to describe to someone who didn't experience it. Would Hornets Mania was like in Charlotte? This is bad basketball team. This is a team best player was Keller trip Yuka but they set an NBA record for attendance and they sold out every single game for years. It was Muggsy bogues and Dell Curry and REX. Chapman was the Young Guy. He was the face of the franchise. You the best player on the team he was in the NBA dunk contest. Meena I mean and going behind his back I mean he was he was a sensation his NBA career go. He never played an all star game. I mean he made the all rookie team The average fifteen points for game over a dozen years. He had his moments. There was a famous night where he hung thirty nine. Michael Jordan and it wasn't just Michael Jordan. It was the ninety six bowls you know the unbeatable 's you in Phoenix. He became you know as the six man. Essentially he became the most popular guy on the team. And so it was a he everywhere he went. There was a following the end. Why didn't he keep you got old? Has All of us? You know? Father Thomas undefeated and You know over the last three years of his career he had seven surgeries It just got to the point where he knew in that two thousand season with the Phoenix signs that that was going to be his last year because it just got to the point where his whole game was explosiveness and he was not. He did not have the capability to do that anymore. I I knew I was going to retire at the end of this this twelve year. I just wasn't very good. I was spending more time in the training room than I was. Playing wasn't fun at that point and I I had an emergency appendectomy right near the end of the season. I got back home and a doctor gave me a prescription for Oxycontin They gave me that Oxycontin. And I'm I'm telling you within two days I was in love like `I greatest thing I've ever had in my life
Denver Nuggets fight back and steal 114-112 win against the Charlotte Hornets
"And not have scattered dot was all concerned though yeah when you go to play bad team you never know what you're this nuggets team I mean Charles on a terrible team but they're not winning an NBA championship at one pretty but a win's a win Jamal Murray hit a jumper with just over five seconds left in the game it proved to be the difference does not go into Charlotte beat the Hornets one fourteen one twelve head coach Michael Malone on winning a close game but I give our guys credit you know this was not the greatest game that we've ever played but we found a way to win down the stretch up to be a really good execution got Nicole the ball Jamal Gary and then we got enough stops Murray led the team in scoring with eighteen points followed by joker with a near triple double sixteen points eleven boards eight dimes the bolero telling everyone post game that are actually out the radio out to TV post game his team's focus a lot on the ground out the win I think we say locked in I guess the word again kind of broke down a little bit time desperation mode now we just have a run of massive back with Plymouth physical government math game like to play so over right wing hooliganism came to the printer now you think on the second worst in the NBA tomorrow night when they play in

NBA trade deadline: Winners, losers and teams in between
"Flurry of trades in the NBA a blockbuster in baseball mortar common colds to memorialize Kobe Bryant and highly visible way joined by ESPN's Howard Bryant good morning hours good morning Scott how are you I'm fine thanks is awesome aggressive deals in the NBA trade at the trade deadline who do you rack up as the winners and losers well and I'm not sure about the winners and losers of the trade deadline but certainly the winners and losers right now of the first half of the season you've got a look at the Lakers in the west and and the Milwaukee Bucks I think they are head and shoulders above everybody else how could you hold on for a moment our you know head yes government for you almost got me for a second there's got yeah Milwaukee is terrific and and they're great they're holding on the crushed Philadelphia the other night I thought coming into the season it was gonna be Philadelphia Milwaukee Los Angeles and Los Angeles Lakers and the clippers but I'm not too sure about the other two yet but we've got a long way to go I think trade deadline wise I think Miami Heat got much much better they got on great good dollar they made a very good deal with Memphis I think that Philadelphia tried to shore up of making a deal with with the warriors and de Angelo Russell going to Minnesota who knows what that's gonna do maybe there's a late run there but the bottom line is coming forward right now I still think that you've got two teams in this league disappointed the Boston Celtics didn't do anything but I think it's the box and the Lakers right now an official memorial for Kobe Bryant's been set for February twenty fourth they've been calls to make his image a permanent part of the game you even rent a Poland that did I did I read a little Twitter poll this morning which was soundly rejected to replace Kobe Bryant is Jerry west to is the logo of the NBA with cut him a cell away from the silhouette of your request yes absolutely and it would have been fitting in some ways because Jerry west was the the man behind making sure Kobe Bryant ended up with the Lakers making that draft day trade with the Charlotte Hornets and I I understand add on one on one level the need or they want to want to memorialize Kobe I also understand that the NBA has been around since nineteen forty seven and maybe it's time to create a new logo Jerry west has been there fifty years since nineteen sixty nine however I do think that if you're going to think about and I'm a new logo or and a modern logo it's probably got to be Michael Jordan right or but I got an arm and a leg yeah but I also understand the desire right now for people to feel that something should be done for Kobe Bryant after after all that happened Boston Red Sox LA Dodgers Minnesota Twins switching sports agreed to a three team trade Tuesday that's been perhaps delay it has been delayed because of some medical records Mookie Betts has what they call a generational player MVP Golden Gloves traded to the Dodgers are the red Sox making the worst roster decision since they sold Babe Ruth's contract well if you red Sox fans are very happy about it especially because it's a generational player Mookie Betts is a beloved player two years ago he wins the M. B. P. and they won the World Series you're looking at a guy that fans just adore and it's a very cynical move in some ways but it also may very well be a huge business deal for them because number one we know that super star players now at this level after Manny Machado deal after the Bryce Harper deal your it in and now the the Gerrit Cole deal you're looking at three hundred and fifty four hundred million dollars to sign a player and if Mookie Betts didn't want to play with the red Sox will find out over the next several weeks and months if that was the case then of course they had to move them but on the other hand if that's not the case the red Sox are a super power they can sign whoever they want they've got money it's looking like a cynical deal we will see I'm good at and by the way I got as you know your cubs aren't far behind because you've got a guy like Chris Brian who's another cornerstone player and what does that mean for the cubs keep these players and the fans love him yeah thank you very much ESPN's Howard Bryant thanks so much no my pleasure

Kobe Bryant Dies in Helicopter Crash
"NBA superstar in Philadelphia native Kobe Bryant was killed this morning in a helicopter crash in California that's according to multiple news news outlets outlets and and it it was was first first reported reported by by TMZ TMZ authorities authorities say say that that five five people people were were on on board board when when the the helicopter helicopter went went down down this this morning morning near near Calabasas Calabasas California California now now Brian Brian was was born born in in Philadelphia Philadelphia and what's a lower Merion high school where he ended his high school career and south and southeastern Pennsylvania is all time leading scorer right played his entire twenty year NBA career after being taken thirteen in the nineteen ninety seven NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets he was later traded to the Los Angeles Lakers where he spent his entire twenty year career he won five NBA championships five NBA championships with the Lakers and now we will actually will head over to add banking from of art for a cable to use that bank and for more information when you're talking about Kobe Bryant you're talking about someone who as really become a legend in our region and of course he spent most of his career the Lakers and there was a time when the Lakers play the Sixers in the finals where it seems like he kind of became the whole little bit at least on the court but Kobe Bryant never lost touch with his roots here in Philadelphia and it was great to see you people may remember the end of his career with the Lakers his last year in with the team he got such a rousing send off innovation in this last game here in Philadelphia against the seventy Sixers and I think if there are any doubts about how old this year it was still important him or not that was cleared up very quickly and I think as time went on he certainly was very clear about his love for this year even though he'd want ally and been obviously part of the Lakers in their championship over the Sixers and his roots here going as high school time as well just devastating if of course confirmed someone who who did put time into the community did not forget his roots and a right now I I it would be just a tremendous loss and you're talking about a real legend when you talk about people from Philadelphia sports figures their sports figures who came to Philadelphia and became famous the Mike Schmitz of the world people like that and then the Kobe Bryant's likable chamberlains who grew up in play high school ball here and even then in his case going elsewhere still became a legend in Philadelphia so just devastating news for someone who is really been a huge part of the community and and this one here I think is going to hit hard for a lot of people and stick for a long time nine it in Edgar's you brought that up you when he announced his retirement because I was actually covering that game when he came in for that night for the Sixers in the amount of love that Kobe received it almost felt like it was all was forgiven for what occurred for one for the six for the six years of being beat in two thousand one he really was a very much beloved figure in Philadelphia thank you so much as a bank I think you hit on the head J. that night at eight try to clear off any thoughts of well this you still feel like part of the love you because there are athletes were from this area players even managers who maybe don't have a disdain for full of you in Italy but builder lives elsewhere that might show supports the measure the angels he's from the area and and he didn't just like Philadelphia but he built his life elsewhere Kobe Bryant went out west and still kept the Lafia and big part of his life and you mentioned that night you could feel it in the building that it was a city that knows that someone that legendary was coming home for the last time at least as a player the the appreciation for both ways it was clear and that it was a really a wonderful moment considering what happened during the finals when Kobe didn't get as warmer reception obviously because he said they they want to come in and use some words about how much they want to beat the Sixers but Hey that's what you're supposed to do if you're for the visiting team and I think people understood that I think both sides what a chance to say Hey yeah he loves Philadelphia he wants people to know that he cares about his roots and that night I I think you're right on the head the fans were so eager to to show their love for Kobe Bryant to make it very clear that it was a two way thing and it was wonderful that night and boy they get again if the if it's true this this is going to hit hard this is someone who is a true Philadelphia legend and and in the lead company we mention the will to the world who have been part of the committee grew up on now you see this and and you you just your hearts go out in this this is good this is really going to her for awhile

It was good for me for my for six years by Chris. GotTa play within. You weren't for Was this was great for me like you said you know. He doesn't like the spotlight. He just wants to play basketball. I just want US basketball less compete. And that's what I appreciate more from him. He's I've se- superstar League all-star never nut from being around his homily dislikes about you mentioned. You know you guys have a game coming up later tonight against the Pacers and they've got two bigs. I mean obviously it's a bonus and miles turner earner and so you got you got your work cut out for you but it's almost like night in and night out in the Eastern Conference. There's a lot of really good athletic. Big Man you. Whether it's obviously Janos at the power forward and bead bams and other got its burst onto the scene. The two guys that I just mentioned in Indy is there. Is there a match up of against another front court Guy Senator powerful or were you know going to that night that it's going to be a battle battle is going to be. You know you're going to have to bring it every single night or it's GonNa be a long night for you. Yeah I mean like someone every night I mean you know drumming Some of those guys are leak I'm GonNa yes even Tristan Thompson. Custody Awesome Gossiping. Every every shot goes down like sense about plenty of well Bam a couple of young guys if so Yeah someone every the every night though. "The White Mama cried screen. We are trying to track down cody's our we had a mix up here we're GONNA get them and hopefully a couple of minutes you're going to have Kendrick Perkins coming up in a little bit. He's GonNa close out for the final hour with us here I WANNA move onto this before we before we do that. Have you seen the latest. There's some interesting kyrie irving sound and comments that he had you know. He's missed a ton of time with that shoulder injury and I saw a bunch of people. Sort of speculating doing now. He's saying that he's not ruling out shoulder surgery and I I kind of wonder is heading towards a situation where we're just not going to see him for the rest of the year because we we've questioned this thing about Kyrie before about like you know. How much does he invested? In this season he went there to play with this Katie. Obviously Katie's now there's no chance Katie really plays this year. They've already pretty much. Come out and said that you know it is it. Is it beneficial for Kyri for the nets for their future for Kyrenia. Just not this year for you know keep going with Spencer genuinely let let this team go now. The chemistry is sort of come back down a little bit like they start off. I believe nine and three without Kaya read. I think there are three and eight in their last couple so this whole idea that maybe they were better without Kyri. The shine is worn off that just a little bit. Do you think you'd actually would make sense for him to miss the entire year. Just get fully healthy comeback and really go after this thing in twenty twenty twenty twenty one when when they get there Katie back when they have that one two punch they originally signed like would that make more sense than trying to bring Kyrie back this year. Scale so unfair to say like. They're better without Korean K. D. because they have seventy million dollars of cap space tied up into guys who are not playing. Then you add had Charissa burt in there. And that's that's another sixteenth. You have eighty six. I think that's the entire Atlanta Hawks payroll by the way the eighty six million dollars a players who are participating and then when they lose so the question is yes I mean I guess I guess you should sit out. I don't know I don't really know what I I don't really. I have no answer for that. I don't know if it's better for him to sit out and they're still going to be a playoff team because he sucks and I'm not sure sure there are even better with him but what is going to the playoffs without Korean K D do does it help the rest of those guys develop. Does it raise the tree value of Spencer Dinwiddie. Are you looking to move Spencer. Dinwiddie at twelve million dollars another player so I don't I don't really have an answer for that through. I'd be making one of if I told you. Yeah I mean one thing. It's like okay you know. Would Kyri playing with some of these players. Ed Is there any benefit in that going next year when they're back to full health I tend to think there is is I mean I know it'll be a different look but like having some encore chemistry with Spencer Dinwiddie. If you're going to play with them that's going to be a backward that you play a lot like having some chemistry before you know before the for next season I think makes some sense to me now it may never work out. We don't know they may end up having to move dinwiddie because it just isn't like a thing that can that can work on the court but I do think like Kyri coming back and playing with some with these guys. That'll ease Kevin durant because now instead of instead of adding one complete. You know two variables next year. You really only adding one in Kevin Durant so but I don't know we I don't know how healthy carry shoulder is if we're talking about potential surgery. I know everyone was saying he was faking. This thing like I you know. Obviously it seems to be a pretty serious thing. Now if there's any long-term lingering effects that you just sorta shut them down and just say hey. We're going to just do it. We do this year and put all our chips into the future. But I do think if there's if it's not a serious injury and there's really no like future ramifications vacations of him injuring at any further. I do think there is a benefit of playing with some of these guys that he's GonNa have to play within the next two or three years. They WANNA make title run in the Eastern Conference right. That matters you've got the whole preseason next year the whole eighty two game season to figure that out. I don't think that I think if you want to figure route if so maybe maybe I'm putting words in your mouth but maybe this is what you're saying you gotta know if it's GonNa work with Dinwiddie or not and if it is you keep them in. If it's is not any move probably Spencer Dinwiddie right like I could see there'd be value in that but as far as like saying. Yeah they gotTa Start Their Chemistry on court. Chemistry we did. This year is going to help them next year. I'm not sure that that matters with all like next year is going to be to me so much. Different with with their offense will be different Kevin Durant with teacups so much of the load. So it's like I dunno chemistry matters. I think more than anything able help you figure out what are the guys. Maybe these charissa burt. Maybe Charissa burks guy that you ended up trading man. You know what we don't need him at sixteen million. Maybe we need a different type of guy you maybe we go after. I'm not saying Danny Green but I'm saying a Danny Green type of player instead. Maybe more catching shoe guide verses than isolation. I don't know there is a little bit of that that I could see can come into play but as far as these guys will long long years six months before the playoffs. Start before you make that run for Eastern Conference Championship so well I do think I do. The clippers are sort of an interesting test case. You're though right. Can you build chemistry like with some of your star players like missing a bunch of games during the regular season like. Are they going to be fine for the playoffs. I think a lot of things. Yes but we don't know yet right so of Kyri can go through this stretch of this regular season. Have some cameras. Those guys is to to me. That's only going to help. When Katie comes your hundred percent right? It's going to. It's going to look different. Kyrie is going to be the center of that. Oh sorry. Katie is going to be the center of that offense. Although we don't know they're probably GONNA EAT SIM Zim back into that thing. It's not like you imagine that next year he's going to be awesome. Loaded management stuff as well. He's not gonNA be probably playing back to backs they're gonNA take super careful with him but I do think the the clippers are almost. It's an interesting test case. How do in one season when you're putting an basically an entirely new team together? How many regular season games do they need to have the chemistry it takes to go Out and be really productive and potentially win a title right because I think I think there are still some doubts about whether the clippers can do that but I think next year. There's going to be about doubts about whether the nets with two new players of Kyrie doesn't play this entire season can do that and be a team that could win the eastern conference like naming naming example Jimmy precedence on this. You get to good players and there isn't any there isn't there really isn't I don't I don't I don't think.

NBA free agency reactions
"Is what our NBA expert as Ricky o'donnell was up Ricky I'm too in very well so what well I I don't know what to say about everything that happened tonight to it did anything really surprise you about the free agency moves today I think you the friendliness of it it's almost like the league randomizer button today and tell it was dispersed throughout the rest of the NBA so if you feel like a totally new legal next year looking at it now at least before quite Leonard makes decision I don't think there's really a favorite right now that you know stand above the other team the warriors obviously you know losing Teheran takes them out of the championship picture next year locate on the injury so I think just the the friendliness of it was the thing that struck me about tonight will help him for going to the Philadelphia seventy six or four hundred nine million for four years that was a well we we heard rumors about the seventy Sixers during the week but we were thinking Mavericks we are thinking pelicans and I just didn't think you wind up with a seventy six with a lot of things had to happen to me but they're getting traded J. J. Redick Levon but here he is now in a row the arch rival of the Celtics the in the east the seventy Sixers now they have al Horford yeah it's a really fascinating moved from Philadelphia's perspective because it blocks the norms of the late basketball is headed these days to wind up with two centers in and beating harder to power forwards and then send it in to buy a terrace in then just one garden Josh Richards and that it's not gonna have a lot of three point shooting it certainly gonna have no pull up three point shooting in terms of a garden create off the dribble so and to even try to do it with the eyes they can try to do it with incredibly tough defense and with the smart basketball players of really fascinating concept for a team and we'll see if Elton brand look like a genius when the season gets underway Kimball Walker the Celtics and they did a sign and trade with the Terry rose here going to the Charlotte Hornets Nova that's not a bad trade off in Cuba might actually better be better as a team guy enters a distributor with with his teammates for the Celtics and Cary was but but I think the bigger losses for for who they're going to play at center this year yeah that's all these have to be looking at their free agent options is better right now they're pretty slim I think there's a huge Iran and big man today ordered meant so much to that team I agree that swapping out cabin carry this possibility that the site upgrades to Boston but adding need to find something in the middle and up with so many that topic men off the board they might have to start looking for someone the bargain in terms of free agent signings well boogie cousins I was gonna say the Andre Jordan but he's with the nets now Ennis canner I I I don't know who's out there to play center for them who's left yeah I think that Spanish is one of the deepest positions in the NBA right now because team his sort of reduce the number of big man they want on their roster typically so there's gonna be some guys flying under the radar I like Ken birch a lot quicker for Landau last season he could be a good backup forum I think Robert Williams who they drafted last year that improving your too so we'll have some options but corporate meant so much to that team over the last few seasons that certainly gonna leave a big hole center for the Celtics you know I look at the pelicans are doing with David Griffin I'm I'm sure yeah they they would rather not have had to trade Anthony Davis was a top five spell player in the league but I think considering the circumstances the return they got for him and now signing J. J. Redick today and creating thirty one million in cap space by you know force in the Solomon hill on the hawks I think David Griffin has done a about as good a job as could be expected here under the circumstances yeah the pelicans have been terrific signing here attic today they also got their neighbors we should start the moment center looks pretty good right now they can run out fevers and Diane and the phone cord on the wing your Brandon Ingram in the back court you still have Lago balls through holiday each one more so a lot of the intriguing pieces on that team there suddenly pretty competent right away I think that Diane is the rare rookie who could hit the ground running yeah I think he's going to peak earlier in his career than most NBA players do given the fact that his expose that lettuces and is one of the defining qualities so I think the pelicans are trending in the right direction how about this that the Lakers don't get quite Leonard I wouldn't be surprised how it can win more games next year yeah and I think if they D. had stayed with the pelicans the probably be in a better team right now than the Lakers yeah I wrote that destination back after the post in one draft lottery that in the Davis is top priority is winning should reconsider staying with the pelicans obviously Davis wanted to get the needed I wanted to get to LA so I think the pelicans done a really impressive job the rebounding from

"A stalwart a real fixture in Charlotte community north peak surgeon here has operate on so many people, but today emphasizing his thirty years as the orthopedic surgeon for the Charlotte Hornets and Hornets now are celebrating their thirty th year in the NBA Glenn with that brief parenthesis of the Charlotte bobcats being a part of it too. You have really had some wonderful experiences. I would just love to know first of all who is the person you've operated on that. You remember the most it was my first surgery on the Charlotte Hornets, and it was Larry Johnson. Larry Johnson he had torn meniscus cartilage in his knees. And it's a pretty simple operation that literally takes about ten minutes to do. And I'll never forget when I walk. In. He was standing up, and he was frightened. And he grabbed me, and he hugged me and he goes duck duck. Don't let him do it. Don't let him do it. I said, Larry, what are you talking about that IV doc make him put me to sleep? I before I put the IV. I said Larry you're free to needles. All doc. I sit Larry you go against some of the biggest guys in the league and your frayed. Put doc make him put me to sleep was everything we could do to get Larry to do the IV. So we went and perform the surgery everything very well went very well. I walked out of the operating room and the CEO the hospital came to me and said, Dr Perry. There's a press conference for you. And when I walked into the room adjacent to the operating room. There were reporters there were TV cameras. There was everything and I walked up there. And I looked at him the first thing I said was I wasn't the least bit nervous to do the surgery. But man, I sure am nervous now, and that kind of broke the ice and everything cracked up and Larry went on to be one of my friends, and I'm still close with him. Now, really stay in touch with the communicate with him do. Wow. That is a fascinating story. The first injury of ever was in the first hour of the first practice of the first year that would be Octobber I nineteen eighty eight. And there was a backward. Fall on an outstretched hand that fractured the navicular of none other than Dell. Curry really first injury of the Charlotte Hornets in the first practice within the first thirty minutes. Correct. Wow. Correct. Were you there at the practice? What is not at the practice, but they sent him in. We got an x Ray. And he started for about six to eight weeks in a thumb spike a cast and Dell and I have gone on to become very close in as you know. He does the color for the for TV. And I I just think the world of him. And I know one of your fondest memories is remembering a little kid that would get on the court and from his lowest possible posture heave basketball's up toward the basket. And it was Steph curry del son has now become maybe the greatest shooter in the history of the NBA. Wow. Would agree with that? And he's my favorite. I used to tease that I used to have to kick he and his brother out of the training room. I'd be Yellen to my trainer carry coffer. Terry, Terry, get the curry boys. They were throwing were throwing basketballs into waste cans while I'm trying to see Alonzo Mourning and I ice to kick 'em out fast forward a number of years when he was ready to enter the NBA delbra. Him down. And we kind of checked over his ankle. He wanted to make sure no misinformation got out and at that point his ankle was really doing pretty well. So we went to the combine David and Steph as he is, and I I just I just think the world him came into the combine gave me a big hug, and while I was presenting his case to my colleagues of twenty years. I got a little emotional. I mean, I watched this little kid grow up. He was friends with my son Brad, and they used to play basketball camps together, and they played golf against each other and this little skinny Steph curry, and I remember thinking at the time David at least if he gets that rookie contract. He'll be okay. Because I don't know how good he is going to be in this league. Oh, wow. You were among many others who just wondered from the day one could his body hold up against these bigger stronger quicker athletes, and we realized quickly he's every bit as quick and strong as they are interestingly the last game that they played I was trying to get there early. And it just seemed like God was holding me up and holding me up. I kept getting one problem after another. I got to the game. And that was a little forlorn thinking that I had missed my chance to say Hello to step when I was walking down the hallway and out of a Roo pop. Stephanie bumps and we got the talk for five or ten minutes, and David I can tell you Steph curry today is exactly the same as he was. And I can't tell you what a wonderful family, and we ought to give a shout out to Sonya. Curry is mom because everybody knows if you've got a great mom, you're going to be a great person and Dell is wonderful as well. But Sonia's just exceptional Sonya is I think it made my opinion. It's she's about three things faith, family and. Education. I remember one time going to her during the bobcats and saying after his freshman year. Remember when Steph had that breakout in the NCAA tournament first game thirty two against Michigan. And then it went through even greater ex spectacular success. And I walked up there as a joke, and I looked at it. This is after his freshman year because I knew how she felt about education. I looked at her less at Sonya, I think Steph ought to quit school and go pro and she flashed a look up. And I said Sonya, I'm just kidding. And she said, you better be kidding. Dr Perry, she's wonderful too. Well, you know, the whole family structure allows those kids to succeed and all three of their children are just exceptional in their own way. Really are doctor Glenn Perry is my guest today for thirty years the orthopedic surgeon for the Charlotte Hornets Glen, give me another memory that just comes into your mind. When you think about these thirty years with the Hornets as the team physician, well, it was December twenty third nineteen Eighty-eight. We were playing the first time against the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan and at the end of the game Kurt Rambus got put back and we won the game. And we beat the bulls. And I'll never forget Steve Martin on the We we just couldn't believe it. And I remember him saying merry Christmas Charlotte and from that time on they sold out literally. For nine years. And I think it was really that game against Chicago that that spurned it. And I remember Carl Scheer telling me before all that that he was concerned that the older Riina was too large and had too many seats, and we wouldn't sell them out. What was the twenty one thousand twenty three thousand three hundred twenty four thousand and I said car, what are you talking about? He said Glen most most arenas have about sixteen seventeen thousand word that's going to look empty. Well after that happened. He wanted more seat majesty. And that was one of my great memories. Yeah. And and talk just for a second about the buzz that was in the hive during that time period every game a sell out. It was just magnificent. Every game was was sold out. Every game people were asking me for tickets people were coming to me. And I had I didn't have any influence with with business saying how can I get on the list? How can I get these the seats, and and it was quite a phenomenon for Charlotte? I remember being asked to be the team chaplain for about five of those years, and we would meet and have dinner together and hawk and then he'd walk into the arena and just start feeling it fill up and this excitement just came from almost a spiritual quality of you will David other teams light coming to Charlotte because they knew the crowds were into it. And kinda college atmosphere it did. And and they enjoyed all the noise and everything and it was funny. I don't think I realized how special that was and with this being the thirtieth year and Alonzo coming back and Muggsy and guys that I've been very close to and we talked at these reunions and all of us have looked at each other and said, we realise now how special that moment was and that because we've never had anything close to that. Doctor Glenn Perry orthopedic surgeon here in Charlotte locally for many many years, but also the team physician for the Hornets for thirty years. You mentioned Muggsy Bogues talk about him aphoristic Lee. He he's just a fee nom. He really is a phenomenal athlete and phenomenal person. And I remain very very close all along and you ever have to operate on him. I did I did. In fact, I told him what I looked at his knee after surgery. I said Mugsy I need to say this to you because I'm your physician, and if I didn't say this to you, it wouldn't be technically, correct? But really you ought to consider retirement. And he looked at me and said, you're crazy, doc, I'm not retired any kept right on playing bone on bone. I remember that day. He did on the in in the latter part of the joint. I remember that very well yet he played through it and can. I have remained close. And if you ever hear the stories, you know, that that ESPN the air the the boys from Baltimore, I tell you it gives me chills every time. I see that. What what what an inspirational type person he's been and he was inspirational to his teammates talk about that. Well, there were times when the coach would make a call on a on a play and Muggsy would be walking out with him. And he looked at me. He goes that plays not gonna work zone. Here's what you do L J. You do this and do that. And they would run to play and it would be successful. So the coach really couldn't say anything he was that much of a court general he knew exactly what they could coach on the floor all the time. I remember going to one of the first games and the dean dome when it opened up back in the eighties in North Carolina. Played Wake Forest and coach myth was still coaching at the time. And I spent the night and went into the office the next day just to say Hello to him and say, hey, I'm watching game films. Come on. And watch this. So we went in he was doing the game films from the night before for the Wake Forest game that I've been able to see and as I sat there and watched this. I'll never forget coach Smith going that Muggsy Bogues. He said he is the biggest pest I've ever had to coach against he said, I just tell my guys don't turn your back on him. If you're dribbling the ball, or he's gonna steal it from you, you better not do that. And he went on and on about what a great player. He wasn't. He said man, I sure missed on him five three. I didn't think he could play in this league. And he's wrong on that one. It was interesting. I was the team physician for Davidson college early in my career, and they had a real good player who later played in Australia named Derek Rucker who was Reggie Rucker son, and Derek was a guard. And he was the player of the year. He couldn't bring the ball up against Mugsy because Muggsy would steal it every single time. They had if somebody else bring the ball up just a phenomenal athlete. Great guide and a person of great esteem. Just a wonderful person to doctor Glenn Perry is my guest today having a blast. Reminiscing about his thirty years as the orthopedist for the Charlotte Hornets, Glenn when we come back. Let's just continue the story. Absolutely. Fascinating. David. You can even tell some stories about me if you want to that's going to be a bit dangerous. Alright Winfrey's my guest. I'm David Chadwick will be right back ride home with a hall of Famer. All right to have a twenty.

"There's a bit too invasive for the players, you know, because you gotta deal with so many different things. So as a result, you don't want the headache now melody and wanna leave, but you have awful lot of do you don't wanna come. And when they come. They don't wanna stay. And that's really the problem here. All right. Appreciate the call. Thank you so much. Let's go to that. Allow Stephen they talk to me. Calling for short, Charlotte, North Carolina. No, thanks coming out to the couple of weeks ago. All star. My question is I'm a Hornets fan. We have Kimball Walker. No, we should pay them back dollars. But at what point should we really just think about getting rid of Kimba and bottoming out to get a top pick. When When I I was was saying, saying. well, what I would say to you is camber is the greatest player you've had in your franchise in the modern ever. And he's got loads of hardly scared and nothing and I root for my brother, Michael, Jordan. So I'm hope for that. He gets to keep whomever. He wants or he gets moving in the direction that he wants to. But I will tell you this about Kimber. See here's where it gets tricky. Because if you are the Charlotte Hornets, okay, cameras only making about twelve million this year. See what you wanna do is for you. Make sure you get some equitable compensation. The problem is is that will he allow that? Because because the bottom line is you're not paying them that money to get what he's worth in return for his services because Kemba Walker is grossly underpaid. Right now. But he's going to be getting the max deal kidding. Yeah. But if you if you the Charlotte Hornets, you haven't been winning, but so much with him. So that makes sense. But he's all you have. I mean, if Kimball walk is not there were reason is there to go to Charlotte Hornets game. Well, that's true. But we don't have a lot of hope right now. We've always been a bottom tier Eastern Conference seen do we just think it out like the Sixers? I know, you know, like thanking but I don't like I don't like taking that last year's I don't mind Tanka for one season. But you should be allowed like Sam Hickey and the Sixers tried to do to go to a fan base and tell them look we go win for you at all for four or five years. That's ridiculous. You're going to middle of the season by Christmas. You know, your team's thinks he got no shot at nothing. Okay them. I make a little sense. But let their process spin years. That's an embarrassment. It really is. And that needs to be said. Appreciate the call eight say ESPN, it's today. Seven through nine three seven seven six. Let me transition to another subject and this subject involves LeBron James and Jeff Van Gundy because Jeff Gundy along will Mark Jackson and Mike Breen calling Saturday nights. Boston Celtics game at the state was then against the LA Lakers. Jeff Van Gundy, MR Jackson and talking about the Lakers ending up saying something very very curious to a whole bunch of folks out there. Listen, naturally, I felt the need to comment. Listen to what Jeff Van Gundy noted baseball. I'm sorry basketball analyst extraordinaire had to say on Saturday nights. Telecast of the NBA on ABC listen to this. And look I drink in the off season. They have to rebuild this Rosca. Right. Into me. It could be a trade with. Anthony Davis, or I think they need to a sport trading. The Braun for giving us much as they can. What are you doing? What are you doing? No. You gotta get on the right time. If I I'm going to say if I could trade him for the clippers into cap space, which would give me a better chance to get Durant or collide..

"This is what is the ninety one two three four five six seven eight. This is his ninth year. Do y'all know he's averaged seventeen points a game or better since his rookie year. Other than his rookie year. He's averaged seventeen or better the last four years, he's averaged twenty or better. And now he's averaging twenty nine point six again. He shoots eighty six percent for the free throw line. He shoots thirty nine percent from threes. He's making forty six percent of his shots from the field. Forty six and a half percent. He plays for the Charlotte Hornets, and I'm telling you the right now. So by a wake-up, you better recognize Kimmel walk is a bad, brother. Let's we keep talking about the big names the car, the Anthony Davis the wire Lennon's the Jimmy Bulloch, whatever let me ask you a question and Jonathan went to Ballard right at you. And I asked this question, I know different kind of place. If Jimmy Butler had value how come a walk again. These are gentlemen, Kimball JIMBO Jimmy Butler. Does a score like Kemba Walker? He just does it. He just doesn't. Let's call it. What it is. This take Kemba Walker especially they got a game against a home game tonight against the Pacers. Kemba Walker something to behold, man. Charlotte on the season five hundred team eight. But Kemba Walker special. It.

"I mean he such a great worker gray person invested in the community invest in this organization wants to be there you don't see today's nba that's that's a rarity in today especially if that group is a winning a lot of these guys today's nba they want out they wanna go team up with the next guy the next team that can maybe make a playoff run kemba who said multiple times i want to be here i want to build something here with you and when he said that to me you know you know i didn't take that lightly i go i'm in i'm with you i got your back and he has worked every day since since i got this job he's been in the gym we've had eight to ten guys living in charlotte right now working monday through thursday boston their tail being around each other i couldn't be more happy with where our organization is right now having taken over two months ago just seeing the work ethic the character of these guys that's very exciting for me it's a great point because the term franchise player gets thrown around a lot and i think it has different definitions to people but to me like a franchise player is there's so many guys in league where when it's not going well it's the coach it's the front office this talent is an good enough around me get me somewhere else and kemba has been so it's not i wanna go somewhere else i wanna do it here and even when it's not going well that's when you need me more that's what i'm more invested in i think sometimes players don't all understand that that being a franchise player means in the good times and in the bat and they need you more when it's not going well and here's a player who by market standards is underpaid is next contract probably for more but but you know he signed when he signed that extension around twelve million that's what sort of the good starting point guards were getting and he kept getting better and you've never heard them complain about where his number is or any of those things that some guys might just do and it's rare it's rare it's rare and you know we see that throughout the league but i think it just speaks to campbell's characters person as a player that he he values place he loves the city of charlotte he loves the hornets and that his just brought you know a lot of excitement to our group to our fan base and we're going to build off of that and that's the type of culture that's the type of character people we want to lead our organization we want always pull for each other we all want to be on the same page through the good through the bad we stick together in ken was the best example of that for all of us we're going to have bad times in charlotte there's no perfect nba team we're going to have good times through the ups and the downs came we stay together and i think ken was someone that will stick with stick with us through the good and the bad you know front office and head coach we have to stick together through the good in the bed you know that's not easy to do especially in today's nba today's social media instant gratification they wanna see change right now can we stay the course and kemba walker has stayed the course through all this and he has helped us and he wants to be here so i really look forward to that jv this is great man i'm glad we got to visit and maybe i'll see down in training camp this year you're welcome anytime all right all right great thank should thanks for listening to another edition of the wochit pod a big thank you to my guest today charlotte hornets coach james beret go we'll catch the next time.

"Have something that can help the organization he's open to it and i'm not sure that happens in every organization whether that's athletics that's in the corporate world you know there's managers owners or ceo's that they wanna just figured out on their own and in this place it's a collaborative effort everybody's involved everybody's pulling together whether it's a playoff series getting ready for film session whether it's in the draft room whether it's free agency many times on the floor papa go the team and say what do you guys wanna do how do you guys feel so he empowered the players empowered his staff that's something i will take with me to charlotte is i want my staff to have a voice i want to empower them i want our players to have a voice i want to empower their group when you impound these people they bring it more the next day they go her for you the next day when pot i remember sitting one day with pop in the film room i was video coordinator it was coming off a bad loss i think it was a utah gain bad loss at utah we fly in the night before and we sit down he knocks on my door probably six or six thirty in the morning i knew was one of those days just gonna we got beat up physically in utah and he comes in he says let's start watching film so he and i go into the film room and at that point we'd have a great relationship we were just kind of new house a new video coordinator and he you know we start watching the film and he saying hey put that on put that on i want to show that to the team so i'm thinking about putting my edit together but he starts asking me says what do you think what would you do here how's this player playing and i remember being you know sitting there for about twenty or thirty minutes going wow he's asking me what i think again so we left that room but the next day i said i came in stronger the next morning i started to put more time into my film sessions because i never knew if he was gonna ask me again i wanted to nail the next one and it was that sort of empowerment that pushed us all to be better the time you spent in charlotte now it is a tremendous nba city it is supported that team the team left and came back and didn't leave because people didn't care about or draw fans you know you replace a coach steve clifford who has success there and is one of the you know considered one of very good coaches in the league spent injuries there's been you know the roster times has been challenged but when you go around that city you see fans you meet with imagine maybe your season ticket holders those things you feel what do you see in here i really feel it an energy there i feel like this place is about to burst they're they're hungry and they're thirsting for a winner this team hasn't won a playoff series in nineteen years i can't even imagine what this place will look like after a playoff series win and that's what motivates me every single day i feel that motivation at fire every single day to deliver a playoff series because i think i remember growing up watching those charlotte hornets teams on on tv never been there in person but there was a buzz about him you know there was a fire in that in that arena it was a fun group and i have felt that just being in charlotte talking to fans season ticket holders spending time with coach rivera and the panthers we want that city on fire we want them on fire for both teams so i like that partnership with even the panther group but this is a basketball area they love their basketball college basketball there an intelligent group that understands basketball values good basketball so i feel a pressure to deliver that and i'm excited that i inherited a team that was well coached there's a foundation there on both ends.
