"Well, obviously I'm biased. So I'm going to lean towards Charlotte Flair. But I think if there was a Mount Rushmore of ladies wrestlers, I gotta think Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch and Sasha are on there. I think if it weren't for some bad timing and some bad luck, Bailey might be up there as well. Maybe it's still up for debate who's on that third piece, but in my opinion, it's probably Charlotte Sasha and Becky as far as the most impactful of the modern era. I don't know what the modern era means exactly. I know what you're saying. Well, once upon a time we had the ladies who were doing lingerie matches and they were essentially in the popcorn match position. So hey I'll go out there and be pretty for three minutes and now it feels like it's more of a I mean we've had the ladies close WrestleMania before. I agree and I'm happy for that. Yeah. I am for that. Equality is important. And I just, I locked the fairness of that, giving opportunity to whomever is looking for an opportunity and deserves an opportunity. So, but I just wanted to know what your thoughts were. The modern time then you're cut off the economy. I'm understanding you correctly would be that this was the modern times does not include Trish and lita and Jackie Moore and all those ladies. Yeah, I would totally agree. I think if you include them and when we got to find a spot somewhere on that mountain, we need more than just four spots because there's no way to have that conversation in my opinion without Trish and lead a specifically. The First Lady is the main event raw and I mean, I wouldn't want to do a coin flip to see who takes out of the spot, but I think we all agree that Becky Lynch sort of helped break that glass ceiling and it's probably not a more decorated champion than Charlotte Flair, but bell to bell, I could see how a lot of people and you were the first I heard say this years ago in NXT that Charlotte and Sasha were like the modern flared steamboat. Yeah. And they were just tearing it up down there in the next day for a long time. Yeah, they were. They were. And they learned well there. They had good coaching. And they accepted the coaching. They responded to the coaching in a very positive way. So it's just an interesting thought. Where people are thinking, I enjoy watching and reading about the opinions of fans. Because I'm still a fan, I kind of want to, what are you guys thinking? Right. And sometimes it helps me kind of refocus or get my direction. So it's a good stuff, man. All right, well, there you have it. We had lived enough. Conspiracy theories. Paranormal. UFOs turned the entire 19 71 debacle of this red dye number two. Parents all around America were buying frankenberry,

"When longer. But ladies and gentlemen, I give you Michael Cole. Are you telling us the boat? The best of all time in our records position has been so busy as it makes you had to hire a personal assistant. You know, Leah, who's just happy if she says to be alive and be a part of WWE. Aaliyah's just happy to be alive. Sure. What the fuck? She just happy to be alive. Leo. How do you feel about your upcoming match when Natalia? I'm just happy to be alive. Yeah, fucking rub it in our faces. She's just happy to be alive. And that could be called Natalia, the boat. Yes. Because that's what an Italian has been calling herself for a couple years when she was with Lana. I'm the boat. But anyways, Natalia gets d-q'd for kicking Aaliyah in the corner past the refs counts. DQ's or another thing that are very common this week. And then she's doing it. She gets d-q'd. The bell rings. She's just looking at her like she's pissed. Then when they make the announcement that after the buildings, she clearly, they make the announcement that she lost the match. She's like, what? Yeah, the wrestlers never know. Yeah. The wrestlers in WWE never know the rules. They're always confusing. How does wrestling work? That's what they always do. It's always been that way in WWE. Right. You know, the good guy wins, but it's a count out. And then he shocked that he's not the champion. Right. It's always how they do it. And he leaves us laughing. Like, yay. I'm alive. I lived. I thought she was gonna kill me, but Natalia snaps and she attacks Elias some more, but then outruns the protector. Sia Lee. Where the hell have you been? Where has she been? Protecting and protecting, protecting herself from the main roster. Yeah. Zion gets some shots in and Natalia retreats, whatever. Next up we have loss lethargy else versus the Viking raiders. We match after rematch in about three rematch after a rematch after rematch and this time we have the Viking experience on umberto for the win. Okay. Changing it up. Oh yeah. Absolutely, yeah. Next up, we have Naomi versus Charlotte Flair. I'm not done yet. Let me finish. Three wild cards and four rematches so far. Yeah. Before the match, Sony DeVille came out and told referee Charles Robinson to take his referee shirt off, and she puts it on. She's the ref. So Charlotte goes for the figure four, but Naomi kicks Charlotte into Sonia. Then Naomi hits the big butt blast and goes for the pen, but Sonia refused to count, and then Charlotte attacked Naomi from behind, locked in the figure 8, and Sonia pulled the Vince McMahon and told the timekeeper to ring the bell. Right. Yeah. Next week, she's gonna be like Naomi screwed Naomi. And then they'll have a match WrestleMania. Well, later, we go backstage and we see Eric Bischoff is just there and he's giving Adam pierce some pointers on how to be a successful leader. And then Sonya walks in and pierce tells her what you did out there tonight was completely over the line and pierce tells Sonya, I'm going to suggest to upper management that you and Naomi have a match next week. And then Bischoff tells pierce, now that is leadership. How much did they pay Bischoff that he completely waste his talents? At least when he was there last he was doing The Miz and Maurice's wedding, like, you know, he talked a lot. He's really good at talking. Yeah. And then he just backstage have two lines. Right. Leadership. When Pearson, what did you do out there today? It's completely over the line. But I should have said, I loved it. That's why I thought he was gonna say. Yeah, 'cause that's what Bischoff did. Abused his power. Of course. All the time. He was a huge dick. He's the best GM they ever had on raw. Yeah, with this huge dick. What Joe said? Never. He was so good and just see him being wasted like this. It's so stupid. I have a feeling it's just one of these like, hey, I'm not gonna be far from there. It's the podcast. You never know. That lives in Wisconsin. Oh, wow. That's right there, isn't it? I don't know. What? Okay, riddle. Next up we have insane with Sami Zayn. Right. Sammy's going to use self defense products on himself because that's what Johnny Knoxville first did to get famous. And first he tased himself in the leg and they play a sound effect for it. But they play one that maybe could be it. Maybe. I hate what comes up next. So then Sammy turns up the voltage and he takes himself in the heart. And he was like, yeah, that's good to show kids. This shows PG now, but you can tase yourself in the heart. Sure. I think we'd rather, I think I'd rather have my 9 year old hear someone yell suck it than Sami go, look, I'm gonna tease myself in the fucking heart. Yeah. I wonder how many people got banned on Twitter for reposting that very well. Jesus. Twitter my music rules for peacemaker intro. I hope someone tastes you in the heart. That's terrible. Canceled. So Johnny Knoxville comes out, he grabs the taser from Sammy and he's like, oh, somebody forgot to turn it on. So he turns it on, he tases Sammy and then we haven't even louder, faker sound effect. Like a time machine sound effect. Yeah. We're like the sound effect like literally when they do anything like an execution like when someone's getting. What is happening? They're just come here. Oh God. Yeah. That's actually the most accurate description. It's the fucking term trainer. Then Knoxville tells Sam he see what the rumble and he throws him out of the ring. Sami Zayn re signed for this shit? Sure. Yeah. Like at least Kevin Owens is, you know, like, he's in like the main storylines of the show and he's getting his ass kicked by Johnny Knox, right. And I'm sure, you know, Kevin Owens got a much larger chunk of money in Sami Zayn. Yeah. Yeah, probably. Definitely. All right, moving on. We have, oh, Seamus versus ricochet. Oh, okay. Have to rematch after. When was the last time we saw that? After rematch last week. Oh yeah, that's right. And like the hundred times before. Ridge Holland's back in his nose looks fine, so that didn't take too long. And then bro kick for the win, like always. Just like all of their matches have ended. Correct. Bro kick for the win. Including last week. Yes, exactly. Yeah. Let me go backstage and Shinsuke nakamura and Rick boogs have a weird interaction with Jeff Jarrett. Then we have The Usos versus. That was it? That's it. I think he's like, hey guys, I'm and then Rick booth is like, oh, double J, double R double T double fuck me and then jerk's like, oh, and who are you? Basically. And that's it. It's just him telling. It's just Rick boo saying you're Jeff Jarrett. And the Jeff Jarrett's like, who are you? And you thought Jeff.

"There was no tie versus mickie james. You'll know like there could be. There could have been so many possibilities here plus bringing in women to work to work. The tag team champions would have also been a possibility there to a w provided the sent Revolt it and kylian king to end. Nwea for the empower tournament at adam. Power for the women's tag title tournament why not send them over in have have them. Challenge decay decay. No that's no dig. It would have been okay. 'cause i always think crazy steve's in the tag team but none could havoc jessica having so i'm like whatever but i'm very disappointed that that didn't happen. I am convinced that there are women. Within impact who are very disappointed that nothing moved on that end got people coming in from new japan. Got people coming in from people. When i say men men coming in from new japan men coming in from W but nothing for the women and nothing for me to sink her teeth into. that's disappointing. But honestly this. This paper comes to an end. You have christian cage dropping the title to to josh alexander. That should have been significant. That's been significant enough for the company to be like look. This is our guy who won the awa guys for for our title. Got it back and this is the guy that we're going to run with. No job out. They have them lose instantly. No more heat for josh alexander. I don't understand it. The and why did they not take. This is what i thought they were going to do. When i was praising this idea of kenny having multiple belts you'll all remember. I was saying. I was saying what the the promotions have. The opportunity to do here is to heat up a new guy. Who's going to take the belts off of kenny right. I was sort of miffed when they decided to go with christian cage well cool and all and it does help w quite a bit but i mean we knew christian cage wasn't going to stay an impact and be the guy moving forward i'm like what are they trying to do here. Why couldn't we have had josh alexander. Josu josh alexander. Skews me versus kenya. Mega four the title and elevated guy. Like that because you know. A mega and alexander would've had an awesome match. One where jason alexander would have been made a made man and a guide people. I am convinced what tune in to watch russell more convinced a nowhere you know impacts gotta.

I wanna save fourth time as knockouts champ. I think solid match solid magic. Got nothing to say outside of the fact that kind of you know every champion ends up losing the straps at some point. I like i. Like i like i like she wrestles. I like how. I like her in ring character and i love her style. There's not there's not another woman In wrestling that russell's quite like her. she's very unique like she's a great champ is what i'm trying to.

Now to say hello crease. Nationally the first lady of the hey Hello darling shout out to kristen again. Did some fantastic work. As i said at the start of the show fantastic work the bill to bells women's one fifty celebration this weekend. Now she's catching up with the rest of her busy life and god bless you too and douglas. Everyone leaves a like on this video or view. You're listening to this podcast application. All that stuff. What did we talk about next. No i did not challenge eric bischoff to a shoot fight. Don't know no. Is it time to talk about charlotte flair and becky lynch. This is where we're at is this is. This is where the is. This is where we're at in the show. No please don't tell eric bischoff. I'm challenging him to a shoot fight. 'cause it's lie. I'm not. I never did so. Yeah so is this. Is this the part of the show where we do it where we talk about Charlotte and becky are. Y'all ready.

"So the so the thing. That's why i'm disappointed. Listening to eric bischoff. Because then i'm like so. It's ratings this course this socks this this this. This is bad but no he continues. He continues to say and he says this he says it keeps talking. This is this is the thing that got me because he was listening to an interview. That that tony kahn. He was listening to it. Live and he said that he heard and listened to it. Previously right this to get his spontaneous ferrick. We know you listen to it before you can only car you can. Only you can only work. You can only work the mark so far before they start catching before the start understanding the griff here eric. So so he's so they're listening to tony. Kahn gave an interview. I think it was on busted. Open and tony. Kahn says this. And this is the thing that got eric. Bischoff air he says or he tweets out look fuck. It doesn't matter. But g k is quoted as saying if ted turner from wcw read back in the day of ted turner. New one percent. About what i know about what i do about professional wrestling. Wcw would still be in business. And this is what. Eric bishop bischoff got heated at. This is what the grinded his years. This is what he this is what he went off on. He took or as he said took umbrage to and he started questioning. Would what does what does tony know about ted turner. How does he know what ted turner knew about wrestling or not. And if i were to call to turn her son i to ask them. You know be ridiculous. What eric bischoff did. Tk taking a shot. I ted turner who within r- even remotely involved with wrestling anymore. Do at this. tony. Kahn doing the wrestling promoter. Shit doing the act calling people out saying i'm better than the guys back. Then this is what got us. This is what got our bischoff and then it became weird because then it turned into eric. Bischoff defending ted turner in twenty. Twenty one on a podcast. The what what did i just fall into. Some kind of weird will of mixed up timelines. Why would ever get mad at that at this stage. And then eric starts going. Well a you know. If he had read guy evans book which he should pick up a copy and read he know about what is.

"Personally think that okay. Well here one. Of course the discourses ridiculous right in some squares of the wrestling community where the usual people not gonna even say like not even be usual people are out there saying awa killed ring avant right. That's the things like aid ring of. Honor was done in by a w scooping up all the talent and so blah blah blah and bro. Cough himself joel. Come first and foremost sit in an interview that i read today that He had here. Let me pull up the quote here. Real quick yes. Yeah quite not quite prepared. Apparently the exact quote was that there was a well not the exact. The exact what i'm gonna paraphrase here. But he says that a he he said in the interview that During two thousand eighteen. He feels like they may have operated a little too cautiously with ring of honor because he feels that that led them to missing a big opportunity in two thousand eighteen that led to the foundation Wrestling what do you think that big opportunity was right. What do you think that big opportunity was not not sharing the company with the box and kenny. Maybe maybe not creating some there to sort of bolster a w and make it into something big yet especially after the rampaging success that all in was how does that even make yet. You're damn right. You operated to cautiously because then what did the boys do. Cody bugs mega. Like all right. We're gonna take our money elsewhere. we're going to find. We're gonna find someone who's going to fund this 'cause they had the proof of concept because let's not forget. This is the wild thing that all in all in was produced in association with ring of honor who helped them out with with production. And the ring. If i'm not mistaken was ring of honoring like it wasn't just you know cody kenyon. The bucks string things together. They got the expertise from dr partner. Home promotion in north america. They got them to finance. The show helped them out. Like the proof of concept was there. I don't so probably. Cough is was sitting around kicking himself. So if anything it's not it's not a question of a w having killed ring butter which is preposterous swing set in motion. It's own demise at that point and here's something else that you can consider. You know why feel wasn't competition with honor for years. A little promotion call world wrestling entertainment via.

"Is it two thousand twelve or is it the sinclair era. That's for sale. And that the you know the rest because let's be let's be honest with each blog Welcome to the chatman if everyone if we're being honest with each other right now and i hope you guys are honest with me. I'd i'd i you know i. I like to think i'm honest with you if we're being honest with each other here i. I'm not sure like digging up all two thousand four two thousand five ring varner putting that out there you know accessible for everyone to see even though it's already out there and you can find but you know there's a difference between going out and looking for stuff on youtube and daily motion and running after dvd's than having an actual streaming service that you can watch the fall the time like. I'm not sure there's there's there's definitely some stuff from the early two thousands in nevada that a lot of restaurants today wouldn't exactly want to be circulating around all that much because there was. Hey there was a lot of homophobic stuff being shared amongst wrestlers in promos back. Then you know and you know there's probably some stuff that A lot of talent be like you know what it's best that my two thousand five to two thousand six shit stays away from you know the general public. You know everything all. It's always a question of content right but Yeah you know so. I'm just throwing that out there. But sean says no when they made the purchase carry. Give them everything. So i thought carry it hang hung on to the early stuff because he understood the value of it. All right. that's okay well. I stand corrected this so it's the entire libraries not just from two thousand twelve moving on china's big ring of honor guy appreciate him. Being here is also a member of the mr. Warren hayes discord. What's your sit joining. Lincoln's in the description But look coming back to the subject matter it sucks. It sucks because we have Because we have wrestlers who had contracts who were making money doing something that they love that will all be out of work by the time by the end of the year and some of them a little later on but most of them will be out of work At the new year and that that stinks man now thankfully there's a lot of people who will be able to find work and that's already exciting We've already seen like bandido. Right but bandido. I think that was that was easily a a a given. But there's going to be more and more people are going to find work before the end of the year like thankfully they're not being released You know on december. I in that they have one month left on. Their contract is still going to be. There are still going to be taken care of this going to be paid till the end of the year. Bare minimum I i heard. I had put out a tweet. A lot of people reached out to me people. You know colleagues in a couple of wrestlers. Who because i tweeted out seeing the reaction from a lot of the ring of honor talent. I was wondering why did talent find out about it. Like at the same time as we all did on twitter..

Well i think he what he had to do was get some stability in chaotic situation. And you know. He made the higher to josh hypol- and he really He resigned patillo or the baseball coach. Wise i think those are essential things. And i think now he's got to figure out a way to to bring in more revenue and and raise money which which really are critical components. How have you seen his performance. I personally been impressed with him. So far You know. I believe he's. He's starting to compete donor interest. And and again i think he's reignited the fan base to a degree about bringing in a a modern high powered offense that really just premium programs never seen before and and recently in a move that you know quite frankly i think long been overdue Through one of his initiatives ut's going be permanently honoring by way of statues. Starting august twenty third finally listened on sirius. Xm pandora stitcher. Wherever you get your podcast in the longest time you would say wrestlemanias are super bowl but it feels like summer slam is almost like that too. I mean i think we're expecting fifty five thousand people Just you know as many activities week tonight. I have special olympics. Tomorrow i have media row and certain events Around summer slam so it feels just as big. I know for me Missing wrestlemainia this year. This is my wrestlemainia so i can't wait to shine news about. You're not being there but we'll leave that to the The trades let me ask you though you just said something that caught my attention. Fifty five thousand people are. I know you've played in front of bigger. But what was it like when you walked out there for the first time in your career and it's one thing couple hundred five thousand ten thousand fifteen thousand but that's just seems like it's it's a gargantuan crowd i mean what is it like. What does it feel like when when when all those is forget television Or on you know. It's nice on crazy. I think it's harder to perform in front of seven people which i have done before but stadium like allegiant I don't know like i. I hate to bring my dad back up. But you know how he says he never being able to feel an audience and control the emotions whether it's good or bad doing cheering wooing whatever it is if just feeling like no other and to perform and to i can't even this so my largest one hundred and one people at at and t. Stadium wrestlemainia thirty. Two and the reaction is almost later. Because it's so big you almost have to take the time longer because there's so many people But the energy you feel it as a performer. i just. that's what i miss. The most during covert is. Will i ever get that feeling again of wrestling in front of five thousand ten thousand twenty five fifty five like this weekend Really can't explain unless you're in it. i mean obviously. If you've ever been to wrestlemainia summer slam royal rumble. Money in the bank. The list goes on even in the audience. You feel that energy. Not even other performers Yeah just you can't even put it into words what it feels like. It's just as if it's just the most amazing Experience i and for the performer. Sherwood you mentioned The crowd of seven. Where was that developmental on. The was an xt. It was fcw in tampa florida. We used to run shows outta there and sometimes it was seven people. Sometimes it was what be both now. that's scary. Let me tell you being able to hear every noise. Yeah that's intimidating. Well you you played High school volleyball so you probably were used to small crowds where you're not completely different. Putting on a persona. I mean sport. I mean praying for is different. This is abc. Being is being. I mean you have many house on at one time and public speaking. Not that you know a promos kind of like public speaking having to go on and dress up and not be sure of yourself or your character. What you're doing in front of seven people is scary. At that time. I had no idea now he not asked me. I have no problem. More than marry her. but intimidating. I think i feel like seven people watching this show. Sometimes so don't don't feel bad badly off it doesn't matter what you say There's no reaction no you can't be i. I want to go back to your dad for one second though because In this is an old story. "Arkansas and then somehow south carolina and i guess you may don't better make probably got into balance off arkansas. What happened there was a florida. State was invited and coach. Bowden said no way. What hall when the sec. So they needed a school from the east and this is strange. How these things take place so the next time they came when the conference broke up anyway. the the big twelve they. They were smart. They offered baylor And texas tech. You know so they could get texas. And that's that's that's how they got. There was strange these things happen. I sat in the meetings for five years with george welsh and damn that. Try to get Virginia tech in in the lake and the only motivation he had at the time was simply because virginia tech. Get guys in school from the tidewater which is great high school football in virginia. The virginia couldn't get them at school and so he wanted tech in there so they had to go by. Acc that's you know because all member though forty eight. oh sure absolutely. Yeah so many. He didn't want them taking those propagates anymore. So it's raw from you know strange These things happen. But i thought i'd just throw out a couple of stories that are real today and some of these people going crazy about their teams time. I know you're tennessee. Grab it that fellow call before i. I'm curious about something because you know we're talking so much about these super league's but having coached at rice and duke and and having been so many places what's going to happen to schools like that wants. This explosion is consummated. now. I think you're gonna see some changes You know i. I can see Espn with conference and then trying to put something in with some of them that are survival. You know like the oklahoma state's west virginia You know You know some of those schools baylor Who knows what where the wind up there. Some just like Picky told me in one thousand nine hundred eighty nine there. Some that are going to be left out exact. Don't bring which already happened rice. And and smu back there in split up southwest conference And i don't want to name any schools and you know i've seen some articles lately and You know that Who knows Who can compete new camp. But i but it's pretty obvious who can and it still comes down to those states. You know in your tennessee guy. Nobody really appreciated what The dickey and you know just my person's memory brain problem here one the name of phillip fulmer. Yeah yeah nobody really realizes what they did and being able to recruit out of state. Recruitment georgia recruit in florida And to do at tennessee did under them especially when it national championship. Because if you look at it the powers have great high school football. You know there's enough great players in alabama for auburn and alabama. They still go out in georgia. Georgia gets all here. Great high school football a lot like texas. She should be in texas. Got the best. High school football in america florida's got the. They've got probably the greatest number of great athletes you know and all but you're in you're out those are the teams that are going to be at the top you know just works out like Some of the others get to flash up there then they ncwa put some patience everything but You know. I think this places that are natural powers stay natural powers and They've stadiums get bigger facilities. Are unbelievable as you. Well know and the rest are gone. I is just what i can call themselves. Division one hundred six of them but There's going to be a couple of and that's it. I think you've hit it pretty good lately with the big ten What their assets are and yes in one of my former coaches play. Helton's coach southern cal. Right is going to stay. What happens out there now coach. What a pleasure to hear from you and You be well and hopefully we can do this again. Well thank you paul. I really really watching you. I never thought. I'd call. But i just thought that so couple of those things out and i've been wanting to do that last week about bobby so but so thanks for having me appreciate. I always our pleasure. Thank you very much. Coach fred goldsmith. Who is a national coach of the year about thirty years ago and coach of course duke and at rice as a head coach. We will take a break more to come as we continue here on a very busy thursday afternoon. You're listening to the paul finebaum show podcast w. fan. You know the summer slam is this weekend. And one of the big stars of that is joining us right now. Charlotte flare doesn't really need an introduction. One of the most famous Wwe stars in the world. Charlotte thank you for for making time. We appreciate it. We've had your dad in here In many many times talking about his love of college football. But never you how are you how are you. I'm doing well. thanks for having me. He does love college football. That's for sure. I'm a little worried about him though because One day he's a georgia fan. The next season seems like he kind of goes with whatever team is where he's okay go. I don't even know how. George intervene data san but Blessing a point. Because talking about your dad would would totally lose lose focus here but then he became an auburn fan. I think stepson was going there. So i'm a little confused but it's not really that important is it. You know he can me on a daily basis. Well let's talk about this weekend. Because i i know in in the year of so much has been missed and it's been different and now that we think we're out of it although some people say we're not what what is it like to finally get back to this event and and to have real people watching my first event in front of an audience. Is that money in the bank and it was hard for me to keep a straight face on my insurance. I'm usually so poised and queen s with air smirk. But when i walked out a girl onto the stage i just couldn't help but smile to see all the kids standing the fans cheering. You really do feel the energy from the audience and of course. Wwe universe is the heartbeat of what we do and not having them even though the thunderdome was You know it kept on. It kept the fans entertained but nothing like having them. There live and hearing the reactions on so you can tell them pretty excited for the saturday early june stadium. No and obviously Vegas not a bad place to to have an event like this for for for those who don't swim in these waters. We know wrestlemainia. We know summer slam. How would you compare and contrast them do own or rent your home sherry do and i bet it can be hard work you know it's easy bundling policies.

"Your phone calls at eight five five to four to seven to eight five. Oh chalked fred next. Who is a good afternoon fred. thanks for calling. you're welcome. you're welcome. I just wanted to give you a holler with a couple of stories. Here that are fact instead of everybody getting so fired up about their teams and everything but he wanted to share with. You will story about bobby bowden and then the inception of the start of this back in the early days with the southwest conference and they Sec but Years ago. I nineteen seventy nine. I just left florida and m. university whereas defensive coordinator down there rudy. Hubbard is going to be in the hall of fame. This year. But i went with. Ken hatfield dear friend of mine. Who we serve together at florida under dickey and he can just taken over the air force kademi and we were in tallahassee recruiting and he can was one that was always when he was young coach. Trying to pick the brains of all right coaches in the country. So he said well. Let's go take a break. And let's go visit bobby bowden. So we went over to visit. Bobby and who i've known from the time apart a. Am he'd been there at Fsu for three years and anyway so ten asked him to coach. Said when the lsu job came open they went after you earlier this year usa. How come you didn't take the job. And i think back of it. Now the chuckle. But bobby's answer. I can remember like sitting there today. He said can he said i'm fifty years old. He all. lsu says a national championship. And if you don't get that he said you're not going to be successful. And he said amount too old for that kind of pressure job and it was interesting because he was obviously turn the fsu program around but it hadn't reached that high yet. So making that statement fifty and then you take a look at the next thirty is coaching when he had a program probably that surpassed Basically inconsistency what lsu's ever done. And so i thought that was interesting to look back now but bobby was great man. When i was head coach. Dookie beat the outta me for five straight years and every year. He put his arm around me said fridge. Just like one of my sons. And i kinda laugh looking at the scoreboard but then when tommy got the clemson he did tommy the same way beating real bad every year. You know so anyway so it was. It was thought does really find a look back with bobby Being in the same tower them for five years. They're getting annoying He's truly truly everything they say. Good about him. You were honored to be on the field with them. Even when he was beating you by forty points you know but let me take it back. I am curious about something and obviously. We're talking to coach fred goldsmith. Who who coach at rice and duke. And i mean you you. You had some pretty tough jobs and your time and came. I mean it's not like you had some some very impressive seasons. Well there were a few. And i enjoyed every bit of it. You know it was fun because you know getting around after thirty years there and One of the biggest. We have ever was going back and beaten arkansas. But we competed well. I'm in texas. And and it was a lot of fun and Has some great kids and matt sign you. Probably know him the football hall of fame noun and everything matt. You wouldn't believe it is but he was three year. Old conference player started for four and out that size then to those guard and We just had a bunch overachievers. It was it was a lot of fun and everything but we were sitting there at the high remember. We used to have those old. Cfa meetings in dallas. Oh yeah and we played golf tournament that day and it was pouring rain just like is here today and doug dickey who co chaffee night or for florida. of course. Kenny was still coach at arkansas. Now is getting ready starving. First year. Reis go sticky when we all had lunch together and we sat there two or three hours because ryan was born and he told us at that time he said things are going to really change. He said there's going to be nothing but superpower conferences just like the nfl. He looked at mason fred. There won't be any place for rice in this. You know and and kind of explain wait was and of course you knew doug dickey from back then when the smartest man i ever ever been around and to sit in a staff meeting him with special back there florida and But you know he was real tight with kramer and you knew this thing was coming well then a couple of years later i was out jogging with our assistant identifying portals and of course frank was who doug worked for arkansas and and Mike was an assistant at Florida i think when douglas there for a while before he went with coach dot but anyway i was jogging assistant at arkansas. He said for it. We're getting ready to go to the sec. And so what. And i went to ask him it and jim i i you know that was not a good deal for On the field financially was great. But were you know we were fighting texas. Am for the top of as a southwest conference every year and they said it was going to happen and they were negotiating all these things. Well then i went onto rice and nineteen eighty nine and nineteen ninety. When it came down the announcement was made right. Go day or so before. Our southwest conference kickoff luncheon and boy that was chaos goes that day but anyway they announced a and m. texas in arkansas. Going south west at southeastern coffers. Well what happened in soon Anyway and then suing time right then that Grant taft was adamantly against grant wisconsin the dean of the coaches and the conference with time. Something's beeping he still there. We're still here coach. Oh okay but anyway grant. Staff was the dana the and he gets up and he makes this announcement by arkansas. Because they're getting ready to introduce jack crowe. The head coach just can't gone to clemson and arkansas. The any column the iraq or the south west of nineteen ninety nine thousand nine hundred strong words and so but grant path wasn't through with it then. The governor of the state of texas was ready day. Man richard she might remember her and she was baylor grad and of course the the texas leaving the league with arkansas was going break that thing up and so grant went to her and she god i think she was a democratic governor and i think the democrats were in charge of you know they have the majority in the legislature time when they came back and they went to the president's of texas and texas a. and m. and i forget the now paul oil fund but there's big oil fund in texas funds all capital expenses of buildings being built only on the a. and m. and texas campuses. None of the other universities. And i mean that was there. I mean they were the to bel- cows system well they went back in the legislature told though till two presidents yes you can go but you can't get any more money from that fun and that was the end of texas and texas a and moving on but that's that's how come they didn't move at the time arkansas and then somehow south carolina and i guess you may don't better make probably got into balance off arkansas..

"Don't stop because you're tired or you're relieved or you're coming off an olympic gold medal The pressures of that their their dreams are in line with what i did which was to be a part of an olympic gold medal team. So when you think about that is helps you ease your way into giving them all of you. Because they're they're they're given given all of them to to me in our coaching staff coach. You've done this countless times. How would you compare over other than the terrifying. Climb to try to win the gold medal but just this olympic experience from from the others that you have had so different. The crowd being very limited. If at all Cova overriding everything. How how how do you compare. And contrast what you've experienced in your past actually was pretty boring but it was pretty boring because you you know we. We played japan twice. And i think them not having a crowd. Kurt them more than hurt us. But we were. We were prepared like you know. The wnba was in the wobble The summer before we were in the bubble in ncwa tournament. So i i knew what was to be expected with there being no crowd. No anything and we're locked down. You know in a hotel so that was pretty normal for what we've been through this this past year and a half well coach I'm glad you made it. I i don't think this. I don't think i could have talked to you. If you had wanted that we would have just been possible so Before you proud of you. Congratulations and i know you've had so many incredible memories of your olympic time and you're national championship and everything else you've done. This has to be Something that you'll never forget. Never thanks paul. Thanks for all ways up. Captured the moment And allowing us to relive it and it was a beautiful experience and we. We're glad to bring the gold medal. Our country great to have you can watch see you. thanks so much. Dawn staley Of all her accomplishments. "And we are back in the great to have you with. You was right before dawn. Staley took off for hawaii before heading to japan. We had a conversation with her about being the women's coach of the us of course coach daily knows all about winning gold. Having played on the gold medal. Winning teams and Has been coaching for so long. And we are delighted to welcome her back to the country and back to our program coach. First of all. Thank you for being here. Congratulations how are you doing. I'm relieved And now i get a chance to to work with. What i think is the best women's basketball team in the country on the collegiate level. So thanks for having me though. we're we're growing. I know. I mean you've been down this road before you know what to go wherever and win a gold medal but what was it like to be the head coach. It was scary. That'd be quite on it. It's a pressure packed. It brings out any brought out some emotions that i i didn't think i had in me. You know i. I'm from north philly and we. We tend to think that we come from prepares us for anything that the you know that the real world throws at us But i had some emotions that I never felt like obviously i. You go through some sleepless nights as a coach. You know you get amped up for a really big game national championship game. Final four But this one was a little bit different because you felt the weight of the world this our country on your shoulders and I've been in that position as an assistant coach. He's just the load is heavy When you are the head coach but when you feel that you you just dive in the preparation and then you you have to trust. You have to trust your your your team. You gotta trust your instincts as a coach as well and Obviously i didn't let that get to me outwardly. in really in my room Yes yes. I felt the pressure. I had a lot of days in which i actually watched him. And i played a little solitaire by myself. this to try to calm down and get myself. Some rest coaches is and you've been the favourite before whether it's the national championship or as a player but is it. Is it more their concern about losing and disappointing the country that you're representing or is it just when you get there as the head coach you know there i it's all on you. What exactly made it so terrified. It's all of it you. You don't want to be the coach you know what your team to beat a team that that is the the the streak I've a part of Six in the last seven. So i know what it feels like to to feel that pressure but as a coach you you don't is out of your hands and i think maybe that is what i was feeling of. I have really no control over. No control over. What happens because i'm not playing We put a great game plan together. We got a great staff. And i mean we put it together to win. I mean the players do have to execute it but you. You don't wanna get in the way of of greatness but you also want to make sure that you know if we need a little push alone journey that you're there to be able to do that and i i didn't doubt myself It was just a feeling of being out of control And really you don't know what to do with the time that you have after you've put the game plan in and you have to trust your game plan you've got to trust your instincts and Obviously if i had to do it over again I would probably feel the same thing. But i i would know going into it what it felt like so coach. What is finally over. And you can exhale for the first time in a longtime describe. That feeling feels great. Feels great. i will say this right afterwards. I was relieved. And then when i. When i got home i i took the rest of the week off and then i was actually dreading going into work like i mean it was almost like you go through a phase where you're you're so amped up for an entire summer because it's coming it's communist commenting then when you accomplish it and you check it all your relieved like what's next. Nothing can be quite as Consuming in this high pressure pack. Then that so you know nothing else seems like it would. It would challenge that that feeling. I until i went to work on monday and we went. We practice don't monday. We practiced on monday and tuesday in. I was like this is home. Like i'm glad i didn't have another week about things. I'm glad i just had to die right in. And then you know. It felt like second skin being with our team at south carolina. You've done this. A couple of times is an assistant now as the head coach i know initially you had thought about maybe moving away from this and then i read the other day that you're you're at least opening the door. Would you want to go back and do this again. I wouldn't after listening to you. You know as as we're competitive being Would would i want what i want to I probably wanna do it. There's somebody else that's capable of doing it. Yes i wanna take an opportunity for another Coast experience just that and sure read is one. I've been pushing out there because we work. We work together For the last two olympic games and I don't know what you say basketball will do but We're under the gun a little bit because we're already in The next four years of The pairs games we got. We got the world cup next next fall. So you know coaches got again getting placed pretty soon So we can start prepping for you. Know the next challenge. You mentioned getting back. And i know how much you love that community and your basketball team. But how different is it. You're you're literally at the epicenter of of a basketball. You're at the olympic games. And you know when you finally settled down and go back to work as normal as it seems The how do you make that transition. Because it doesn't seem easy. I mean you you just dive you just dive in you. Don't you stop thinking and you just. You're on automatic. Because you got you know. We're we're you know i'm still a dream merchant for our players and their dreams..

And there's also the rematch between bianca and sasha of those three which storyline which build which match intrigued. You the most. Oh i'm excited. They're all three really different different. I think with alexa. And marie think it'll be just being totally transparent. I think it'll be more entertainment lessons. That an incredible job like with this character is like it's really watched her sometimes even mike backstage she kind of dives into this really cool wake. She knows how to transform yourself. It's very admirable. It's very cool. And i think it's funny because like i'm intrigued. I'm a little intrigued to see what we're going to bring to the table at summer slam knowing just how big summer slam is knowing that summer slam is gonna be bigger than wrestlemainia this year especially with having so many fans of attendance. It'll be cool. See what they do with lily and lily will be involved but the match. I mostly board you. I think is sasha versus bianca. I think They have a really cool story. And you look at you. Know going back to wrestlemainia back to you know they. They were the second woman to main event. Wrestlemainia history of wwe. They had such incredible match and it was just like it was really cool because you saw you really saw the magic of sasha basically and i say this as a performer with sasha really as an art elevating every person that she's in the ring..

"WWE is going to make a little history with wrestlemainia this go around at outta MetLife. Big. It's a big deal. It's a huge deal for the first time ever. It would be the main event. Some would call it the final match while from us. Call the main event Seles match. Yeah. So. You know, some folks thought maybe Brock listener. It's just for the restaurant business, but it's great for women's wrestling because women's wrestling over the past several years has come such a long way, not just from WWE other companies to and the women aren't just looked at as as it used to be years ago. And all ladies the ladies in the main advantages named ought to be a sports center on ESPN on TV. I mean, so and and they're going to be doing suffered ESPN they did stuff last year too. So I'm just saying I just so it's just so refreshing that it's the the entertainment value is respected by the sports world. And the athleticism is is respected by the bulk of the sports world. So, but this is a huge thing. I mean, this is huge. And it's it's happy for I don't be rude. I'm happy for Charlotte flair and Becky Lynch of these ladies they paid their dues a lot of years. Lot of skin in the game. A lot of. A years. Lots of years, okay before WWE, Rhonda Rousey, she's new to the game. She'd been paid dues and the wrestling business. Great great MMA. She's a UFC hall of Famer. She's a amazing grand champion judoka. Which is a a junior champion. So amazing athlete and she brings massive stop power. But I'm old school wrestling traditionalists, and those two other ladies paid a lot of dues flair and Lynch, but Ronda Rousey is helping draw draw the helps draw the main event, obviously because I'm a stop out. Yes, she does. But not as popular as the other two amongst wrestling fans. No rescue domino. You said and you're right. And the reason is because bring name power put the wrestling fan or fans of Becky Lynn me the reason is because of respect. Yeah. Because they know like I just said the wrestling fan knows that those ladies paid a lot of deuce and Rhonda hasn't. But that's not the main reason she she's her character, which is good. They have for doing this more out of health the fans and a bunch of nerds in their basement. She's going that route which is called cheap. It's easy to do that works. It's fine. So that's helping hurt that helps her as a heel as a bad guy dead girl, get that heat. But the fans also know when she talks on a Mike is just terrible is no juicy. There's no other way to put. She's yes. I'm sorry. She's great, and my disrespecting handing she's done athletically, or what she means in for the WWE attached. But I mean, I just look at I look at the other two is just better overall. When you put everything in place. I, you know, I look at them as better overall women rested. And I just want to say this to like anybody who thinks wrassling. I listen, you watch any stuff leading up to the smack just for example, what Shala flare Becky Lynch, Ronda Rousey, go on YouTube goal. WBZ's website watch the physicality that's happening with these ladies. Yeah. Okay. Watchhouse fifties kicks and punches are that will watch. And so anybody who thinks any different is a dumb ass. It just doesn't stand and they have this archaic thinking, and it's it's sad because that's kind of like uncalled Alec. It's like wrestling's embraced now. It's it's sitting here on a national sports radio show. And we're talking about this. You'll have you'll have broadcasters here on CBS sports radio. Talk about wrestlemanias that leads to on WFAN here. Locally to know wherever you might anywhere anywhere. You live right, right. Talking about this. Because it like I said they're fixing to be on ESPN. Right. It's it's clearly it's clearly more mainstream and has got more mainstream as we've gone along here. And I, you know, put all that, you know, everything you said is true TASR. I just think you look at the growth of the women are the women's wrestler. The woman wrestler in professional wrestling is just remarkable. Because you mentioned in terms of now, I remember the days of sable, right? And not even not even go back where you know, you mentioned candy and everything was calling that stuff. You know that birthday. We'll see. So. So it's so significantly different the way that they're treated and appreciated now much significant. Yeah. And they've earned it. I mean, and they do a great job. I mean, we've interviewed you know, we interviewed Charlotte all week. That's right special winter, she was doing stuff a special, which is which the WWE designate job their outreach into the communities, and helping those that need it, and she talked about that. And and we know how big of a star Becky Lynch's and Ronda Rousey, she's got some work to do in terms of. I don't know if it's ever gonna get there with her on the Mike, but we know how great of a of a physical specimen. Well, then the thing is I do think like just a my opinion that I think they if if if if something McConnell McGregor happens would w w at wrestlemania guy the table set here, you get this main event here like we said earlier, I talked about this earlier. And I'll talk about more on my podcasts on the tashaun get deeper in the woods on the wrestling. But the thing is like you got you got one of the girls listing Becky Lynch and who's probably gonna win the championship. At wrestlemainia, and for those that don't know harmonica. Her name is she's the man so speculates as you know, Muslim. She's the man that's like the gimmick. And 'cause she's the man, but she's a woman. But it's it's just a gimmick. Right. But anyway, she's from Ireland. Okay. We know Conor McGregor is from Ireland. We know Rhonda rows economy McGregor offer ends. I could see something happened where I would strongly predict if f Conor McGregor gets involved. You know, and everybody's gonna hack this for me on this radio station. Just throw some credit over here to task. I would think that Conor McGregor helps Becky somehow some way maybe if he's involved win the match that'd be cool and win the championship. Because then they could go down the road where Rhonda's pissed at McGregor, and they could do something potentially further down the
