"Abode where I think we're going to aim once we've finished all our work for stuff we've still got to do, watch a bit of the Champions League Final. We used to support him by the way. Oh no, I've got a route for Real Madrid because I'm a man united fan, so see Liverpool. And I know that our overall company president is a massive Liverpool fan and I said to him yes to how you nerves and he was like oh no I like depends on the midfield. But I reminded him that Liverpool have always won. They've won 6 Champions League titles or European cups. Always against the team playing in white. So that bodes very well for Real Madrid playing in white tonight. Alex, who are you supporting being the big football aficionado that you are? Yeah, I mean, yeah, famously I don't care for football disparage it whenever I can to be honest, not because it's a bad sport or anything just to find it a little bit a little bit boring, but yeah, I do enjoy a good big sporting occasions. I'm going to be cheering for Liverpool because I think Jürgen Klopp is a great manager. It comes across very well. I mean, I have no idea what it is about him. Football technically wise that made some good, but he comes across very, very well. With all these positions on life and I appreciate that. Anyway, we've got massively sidetracked from our Formula One podcast. But kind of remember where that point started, you know, actually. It's because we escaped the traffic jam and we finally heading, heading, heading out. But yeah, we're talking about McLaren and Daniel Ricciardo. Yes, that was it. I was up at mason a watching watching FP three with codders. And Carter said, you know, it's interesting that Zac Brown and McLaren are coming out and making these public statements about Ricardo in the media. And they're not doing it by accident. It's obviously got to be part of some sort of tactics cottage used the expression is that a carrot to try and get into perform better and really got to look at it as it's a stick to beat them with surely. That's what they're just trying to really, really inject some sort of fierce reaction from them. So it'd be interesting to see how we respond, but I mean, even with rain and a chaotic race from 14, it's hard to see him doing anything particularly special tomorrow. So he's got to hope Baku is where the next fight back begins. And for the football fans listening to this, I have Googled it. And the status that every time live for one European Cup or Champions League has been against the site in white. So although there was that defeat a couple of years ago, two Real Madrid, that does tie in with that statistic. But of course as college is calling it the champignon final is not the major sporting event this weekend. It is, of course, the Monaco Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc is not only aiming to win the Monaco Grand Prix for the first time, but finish a race in Monaco for the very first time. He's at Owen 5 at the moment, two formula two races and three Formula One races. Obviously one of them, he didn't even start let alone finish, so it's not been a very happy hunting ground for him, but Alex is tomorrow the day that I know, I know you don't believe in curses, but it's more of the day Charles Leclerc does finally taste success in Monaco. There's no reason why he shouldn't win bear in mind he's starting on pole and he's got his teammate alongside him. And we know how critical that is at Monaco. But yeah, as much as steepest dish in his nonsense, things do seem to happen to leclerc, whether he makes a mistake or something goes wrong as it breaks, because it don't have, doesn't happen because we hope that with all drivers down there's no sort of you celebrate or enjoy a particular team doing badly. These drivers are all brilliant and all the teams are tremendous. So it's unfortunate when these things happen. But you can't be ruled out. So that being said, just going back to the first point, starts on Paul's team at alongside him. He should win it. If it's dry, if it's wet, he actually said he doesn't think he's ever driven a racing car in the wet. And definitely the formula two races in 2017 were dry. But so yeah, that could be an interesting challenge for him, but as you said Ferrari's car is performing better in the wet than it has the last couple of years. He was pleased with how things were going at imola when it was where earlier on in the season. So hopefully for his point of view, he's got all he needs to cope with whatever, whatever the Monaco curse or whatever Monaco itself throws out. He may not be superstitious, but quote Michael Scott from The Office. I am a little stitches, so we shall see how Charlotte Clark fares tomorrow. Alex, thank you very much for joining me. Coddles, thank you for driving. Very, very quiet from Yukon as I was expecting some quips or some jokes or something from the front seat there, anything you would like to add as you keep your eyes on the road, of course. I'm physically concentrating on not hitting any passers by or people in black trucks driving like psychopaths. So I've let you.

"Standings now in Formula One. Charlotte Clare leads F one with 71 points, then you've got George Russell and second, what goes the Mercedes now second F one after three races got 37 points. Carlos Sainz is in third with 33 points. Sergio Pérez has 30 points. He's in fourth. Lewis Hamilton the Mercedes driver. Many time world champions and 30 is in 5th place with 28 points, and then Max Verstappen, the reigning world champion is in 6th place right now. With a lone race win in Saudi Arabia, other than that, to did not finish, he's finished one of three races all year. He won the one he did finish, but he can't appear to finish a race. He's got 25 points. He's in 6th place right now. Coming up at imola. The next race and Formula One will be Sunday, April 24th, at a Ferrari's home track, imla should be fun. I can not wait. And as my thoughts on Australian Grand Prix, let me know. I'm very curious. I did not think it was a particularly good race. It was like, yeah, when I look back on this year, I'm not going to remember that. Like, I'm going to remember Saudi Arabia. That finished between max and Charlotte Claire. Even the first race of the year in Qatar. That was a fun battle. Max had to retire, but we had great wheel wheel racing with max and Charlotte Claire. This one, and I don't know that maybe if max said had to had engine failure or maybe it would have been more interesting at the end. I don't know if it's Albert park's fault or not, but really there wasn't very many opportunities for overtaking. And that was very, just let me know. What did you think of the Australian Grand Prix? I didn't love it that much. I think it's going to be one that we don't look back on the year and go, oh yeah, Albert park, we're going to go, forgot what happened there. Oh, Charlotte Clark won. Yeah, it's already one easily. When they were interesting, let me know. Let me know what you think..

"First and fourth and finished. First and fourth, but it wouldn't be the fairytale conversion of pole position to race win. The Sergio Pérez instead it was Max Verstappen taking the win. Over Ferrari Charles Leclerc by half a second with an enthralling last gas battle between the two, Carlos Sainz finishing third as Ferrari extend their constructors lead over Red Bull. Sergio Pérez did everything right according to Christian Horner until that early pit stop that he took followed a lap later by a safety car with the others in the top fight getting effectively a cheap pit stop demoting Sergio down nothing he could have done about that. Let's analyze what happened, how it played out. What an amazing afternoon of racing. Or evening of racing that was at Alex, and Jess mcfadden, and I know it's early stages of the season, but we saw Charlotte Clark pulling on alongside Max Verstappen after they finished the race giving him the thumbs up and in the podium and interviews afterwards, lots of love shared between them, saying they enjoyed the tough but fair battle between them are a relationship there that we hope stays positive throughout the season and talking relationships, our sponsor of the podcast once again, our friends at better help online therapy. Relationships take work. A lot of us will drop anything to help somebody else and somebody we care about, but how often do you care about yourself, that important relationship where you look after yourself, stick around around halfway through the podcast that I will tell you about our offer with our sponsors better help and what we're doing with them this week. Make sure you keep listening. So, guys, I'll start with Alex. New rules, new cars seems to be working out all right then. Or if we just been lucky for a couple of races, that was a fantastic fantastic couple of hours to spend for any racing fan watching today, wasn't it? It certainly was Martin. But I'm actually, I'm glad you come to me first because I've got a pick you up on something you said on last night's podcast, which I listened to, because I'm a diligent colleague. Sorry to hear that. Someone's got to. And apparently I live in a palatial bedsit. You heard that. I do hear that, yeah. That's quite an interesting description of my one bedroom flat in northeast London. I can happily report that it sits between palatial and bedsit. It is neither of those things, charming, one bed flat. I think that would be the description of grapefruit but no, that amusingly greatly when I heard that. But yeah, what a race. It was very interesting. As you say about Sergio Pérez, very, very unlucky with the timing of his stop. I think he was starting to struggle with his tires. I think it looks like if you just hear the one radio message from Ferrari, it kind of looks like Red Bull got dummy into making that stock, but effectively what Ferrari had done is do the opposite. There's no point pitting on the same lap as the car in front of you. You're definitely going to lose out. Well, it's just going to stay the same effectively. You're gambling on a pit stop going wrong, and they don't tend to do that that often it Red Bull. So yeah, he was very unfortunate at the time in the safety car, although Red Bull, let's face it. I mean, there's still must be riding the high of the safety car they got in Abu Dhabi. So I don't think they can have too many complaints on that fund. And then it won the team won the race anyway, Max Verstappen. But yeah, as you say, Martin, it's the key thing here is the battle once again, a thrilling fight to Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. And I think we're now getting enough evidence to say that yes, these rule changes have really helped. They can follow each other. They can pull off overtakes. They weren't able to last year. But it's interesting, Verstappen says it's less to do with the design of the cars and it's more to do with how the tyres behave, which I know some people go, oh my God, it's still Formula One talking about tires. They are just absolutely critical to the outcome of qualifying performances. That's why Verstappen not necessarily getting the most out of things in both Bahrain and here in Saudi Arabia. But he seems to be thinking that's what's making the battles so exciting. But what I really enjoyed was there was sort of a sense last year a correct sense that it was Verstappen being over the top, the majority of the time going up against Lewis Hamilton, who was choosing not to have accidents. What would happen if Verstappen tried that against another younger rival? And Charles Leclerc, I mean, I've always rated him since I covered him for covered him in formula two. He's a phenomenal driver and showing that he can really, really do it. Wheel to wheel. So yeah, we're starting to see evidence that it is the cars. It is the new eggs that obviously the change to the 18 inch wheels is going to help that. You know, he's going to help he's part of the package of changes. So yeah, as you say, a fantastic, a fantastic racing spectacle. Yeah, a 100%. I mean, this is why we're watching Formula One, right? We want to see racing. So they're delivered, which is great. And very much aligned with what Alex is just said. But for me, I think building on what Alex said and kind of hinting at what you were suggesting there Martin. It was the what I really enjoyed was how clever the racing was. I think from everything was, it wasn't just about who's got the fastest car or where the two top teams today were finding the advances in the disadvantages and using that against one another. It was about it was about the fact that they were cleverly using DRS and kind of playing mind games at 200 miles an hour, which I just still find extremely impressive. The fact that they can do that..

"Winning a Grand Prix is always should be a big deal. Just there was always that thing about making every Grand Prix a Super Bowl. And most of them were great, but I just think I didn't like Saudi. I have to say, I think it's the wrong place to be racing. And I think the circuit was great over one lap in terms of, but it was like a video game crazy place. And it was they got away with it. No one was hurt. To me, I couldn't believe it got signed off, really. I just, you know, really old. And I was so happy it wasn't the final menu. Imagine if that had been the place that decided to finish the season. So yeah, I'm kind of torn because it was lovely having this sort of wall to wall racing every weekend that the next chapter, you didn't have to wait very long for it. In the past, you had to wait. There'd be gaps in the season when we only had 16 races all those years ago. But yeah, it's too many. I just think they should pick and choose the best ones, but obviously that's not going to make the money. And Mark, you were at most of them yourself. Was it too many for you as well? Yeah, definitely too many. But I find it difficult to put myself in the position from the outside. If I was just a farm follower, would I feel it was too many? I would love the fact that there was always a Grand Prix to look forward to. I don't know, to be honest, but yeah, certainly the challenge and the quick fire challenge and constant sort of changes without testing preparation, not very much testing at all. It was a brilliant challenge for the teams and the drivers. So yeah, it sparkled the whole season, sparkled, but whether it was quite as necessary to have quite so many diamonds in that, I don't know. Yeah. It was a challenge. And it put, I think, for the driver's less so, because they all love being in the car. But for the guys prepare in the cars and the guys getting the cars there and the team there and putting up their awnings and taking them down probably asking a bit much. But if you ask the drivers if they prefer testing or racing, they're always going to say racing, aren't they? So in that sense this year is better for them because they used to face three days in Barcelona mid week after a Grand Prix oh my God, here we go. Whereas now they've got another race look forward to. And if they're not racing for real now, they're racing virtually when they're a rare off weekend. So from that perspective, I suppose it's good to have this wall tour racing as Mark says for the fans. It's like streaming your favorite TV show, isn't it? It's just the next episodes coming straight round. Yeah, you've been watching it. And it's funny you talk about virtual racing, but your Fernando Alonso, you do the tire test in Abu Dhabi and you finish that day and you drive straight out to Dubai to do practice for a 24 hour kart race. The guy just can't get enough of being in something that goes quick. Different levels of quick, obviously. But yeah, I think one of the aspects that came out of the kind of quick fire nature of the season and the fact that maybe over prepare for things or even have time to really catch a breath before the next race is that fluctuation we saw even in a weekend of car performance even at the front with the biggest teams that sometimes they did hit the ground at the wrong point and had to react there and then and get it together. And that's why we saw some of those changes. But we had the sprint. We had new venues, but almost ironically, it was some of the older venues that provided some of the other highlights in the season. I don't want to make this only the max and Lewis show. So we've got to look at some of the midfield runners too. And how they fed and if you look at Monaco with how can I call Ferrari midfield, but I am with Charlotte Clark putting it on pole and Carlos sites being so quick that weekend, obviously Baku straight after that with another Ferrari pole position, then we had the Hungary drama with one car on the grid, but oak on getting a win, Monterey even with the only one two of the year for McLaren. It's the only team that I want to all season, which is remarkable. But there was a real highlight sign in the field. We've just talked about how good max and Lewis were, because of how far clear the field they put themselves. But actually, that midfield battle was closer to the front than maybe we've seen at times. And we did get mixed up results as well. Damien from your point of view was there. Was there a hint there at where F one needs to be going? And were you impressed by some of some of the performances we saw from some of these teams or conversely, as I'm calling Ferrari mccarran midfield teams is almost a bit disappointing that they perhaps weren't performing even better. Well, it's obviously disappointing that they're not closer to Red Bull and Mercedes at the moment. And we hope with the rules reset they will be. But I guess the context of this season being this sort of interim season kind of meant Ferrari didn't put the resources into this year at all. They were putting everything into next year. So it was kind of a holding pattern. And yet they still finished third in the championship. The clerk could have won a race in Monaco and he could have won Silverstone. He didn't really get close anywhere else. And science performs admirably in terms of scoring points. And they outscored McLaren and for me, McLaren, obviously they started strongly, but they really sort of drifted off at the end. And I would think.

"Of course, we do have that change at Mercedes, the much promised, the Anglo tape of Lewis and George Russell. Next year. Now obviously George Russell has had a taste of that state, but with Bottas as he's teammates. And obviously Valtteri is off to alpha next year. But you know, given that Hamilton and Verstappen are at such a level. And everyone speaks very highly of young George, but he's obviously he's only just scored his first handful of points for Williams. Given that, I think there's two points here. I how would how will he go knowing that Hamilton is potentially going to be an actor and world champion by the time season 2022 started to potentially, if not 7 and still pretty good. But what if let's say, for example, the 2020, let's say Alpine, all of a sudden this guy, the soccer, we cut the car with the best car on the grid, sucked in Daniel Ricciardo. So for George Russell, what I guess, what kind of glimmer of hope is he holding on to for season 2022 based on this last sort of hurrah of this current generation car heading into Mercedes? I think he's got every reason to be pretty. He has been plotting for and sort of working for everything. He was 15, 16 years old. And I think he's going in there genuinely under no illusions of the challenge he faces. Like, he's up against one of if not the greatest driver in F one history. He knows, he knows that he's coming in and it's not going to be like, it's going to be level treatment, obviously. I think Lois is going to be expected to be the lead guy, and he is going to be, yeah, he's going to be seen as the upstart. But I think that, yeah, he's, I think he's going to relish the opportunity, honestly, and I think that we've seen sort of flashes of what he can do. And I think that what he's done at Williams has been, yeah, it's been very impressive. We've not seen him sort of obviously like at the front and with all the added pressures of sort of being so much in the spotlight. And that's going to be an interesting but that he's never sort of had a halfway house between being racing for sort of a team towards the back of the field. And now he's going to team at the front of the field. He's not made that semi steps like I know, like a force India or like Ferrari would have been Charlotte Clark going to Salva, for example, it's kind of like an intermediary wheel, where you get a taste for it. No, I think it's really exciting. I think it's got a really good chance and I think that he'll go in that sort of thing. He's got the ultimate y'all stick against. And he knows that long-term. He's going to be the man to be leading Mercedes in another sort of like four or 5 years time, most likely. Yeah, he wants going there from day one and he will want to beat lower. But I think that he'll also know it's about playing the long game as well, but it's not a case of ending like Hamilton's legacy or anything like that. But I think it's going to be a bit of a different vibe to say when the clerk joined Ferrari, for example, and was with vet when it was very clear that was a changing of the guard moment for Ferrari. There's not a similar fear with this. I think it's very much about the planning for the future. It'll take time, but I think George from day one, I think he will be able to surprise people. And yeah, I think from the word go, he will be up there fighting. It can say he's hitting the car, for race wins and everything because he's just so, so good. So it's a very exciting move. And just before we move on to what we should expect from the next couple of weeks, the background question with this season, I sort of expected to be, but it hasn't ended up being too much. It has sometimes been, but this battle of the second drivers, right? Normally, Hamilton and Verstappen are so far ahead that we don't even really think about them very much. And this one of their ties are exploding, which happens from time to time. But Bottas and Perez haven't had quite the impact on the championship we expected only one of them sticking around for next year at the front of the field and that Sergio Pérez, given that parents is near that team, but has been around for a while and no slide on bot house, so we know who's we know his abilities well now. But who do you think has done the better job in the context this season of attempting, I guess to support their leading teammates? Wow, that's a question. Yeah, it's been a funny one. I think that both of them at times have shown that real flashes of brilliance and being absolutely unsung, I think that boss ass you look at Monza, for example, when he obviously dominated qualifying the sprint race and then went all the way to the back and forth through its third place, Turkey as well. I mean, he was just on another level to everybody else. Paris, I mean, he's had some excellent weekends. Well, Baku. I mean, okay, this happened, yes, would have won without the tire failure, but Paris would be very, very close to him. Like all weekend long he was in a really good groove. And towards the sort of like recently, I think prior to Qatar and Brazil, yeah, chuck I was in. He was on a really good run of form. He was performing at a very high level, and I think as close as he had been all season to the frontrunners. But yeah, I think overall I would..

"You know, Mercedes fought that decision up until the point at which it was made. And, you know, Red Bull are going to do the same thing. Because that's, but that is Formula One, right? It operates like I said a little bit more like a court of law sometimes than it does a sport. And you'll have you'll have these very clever people. We heard it on the radio today with the max incident. You've got them appealing to Michael Massey in real time, saying that's not that's not a racing incident. That's racing. What we're going to do here. So it's part and past a Formula One. And I think it has highlighted to me that there needs to be a bit more of a conversation with fans especially. And I don't know if you'll ever ever land. I'm not sure we can try. But there's a side of Formula One that is still shadowy and that is causing confusion and upset. Because again, I think this weekend has been one of the darker times for me personally. You know, I look after our social media. It's been very dark time to be on social media this weekend because of the tribalism that we have in Formula One. People are very passionate about this, they're passionate about their teams, their drivers, their racing, and that's a great thing, but it's also it can be an ugly thing. So I think we've got some work to do to try and lift the shadowy nature of this side of Formula One. Yeah, I agree. I agree indeed, as you said, social media was definitely an interesting place this weekend. Luke, I just wanted you to expand if possible on the point that has been making in the jazz just touched on there as well about the fact that in the past he feels that teams have been able to change things when damage, but they want. Can you just expand a little bit on what it is his argument is there and why the FIA and the stewards I seem believed that this is different in this situation. So the rules on a race weekend are that once park firm air conditions come into force, which happens at the moment, your car goes out on track at the start of Q one and qualifying from that moment, you can not make like major changes to the car that set ups mainly in. You can do some small wing adjustments and things like that. But that's kind of about it. The only exception when it comes to part changes is if you can prove it's for reliability reasons. So for example, if you have a crash in Q three, for example, obviously, you can not use those parts. I think a very clear example land an artist crash at spa, Charlotte Clark's crash in Monaco. And then you are able to request for the FIA that you are changing in those parts for reliability reasons. And obviously with a crash or something, it's very obvious why that damage has happened. But there are smaller things where you can sort of argue that okay, well, there is reliability where on this part, we can prove it. Therefore, can we make a change in that? I will give permission. And then before the race, there is a document issue that comes to journalists as well as all the teams, listing every single part of a car that is changed before before the race under those conditions fairly. So what toto is Greg was, is that Red Bull at the last three races now have changed the rear wing on the sapp's car under those conditions after qualifying so before the rates, his argument was that they've been allowed to do that yet, Mercedes were not allowed to make a tweak for what was essentially the same reason reliability with Hamilton's DRS, which was why it failed to test afterwards by .2 millimeters. The difficulty here is that when Red Bull so say, for example, Red Bull's DRS was something that they needed to change. So long as it passed, the post qualifying check. That's fine. And then they can make that change ahead of the race so long as they can prove the reliability grounds, which the FIA was happy with case in point today, that's what exactly what happened on Verstappen's car. The fact is that Mercedes Benz is DRS didn't pass that test. And that was the issue. And ultimately, the team, the team didn't realize that the part was broken because obviously it was such a minor break to be what .2 millimeters. Therefore, the first time it got flagged was when it was being checked by the FIA. The FI did those technical check said, oh, it's failed. Therefore we're going to empower the part. It's ours now. You can't have it. So Mercedes basically couldn't access their own rear wing to be able to see what had happened and be sure of what that breakage was or fix it. So tosa said it's like the bullet had already left the gun. And I kind of do see his point on that. But I think the difficulty is that, yeah, okay, Red Bull have been changing that rear wing what three races in a row now. But they've always been able to do it. It would seem fairly with what the FIA said it's always passed all the tests. And the Red Bull of them being able to say we can prove for reliability reasons we need to make a change. Obviously, we've seen them at the last few race like working a lot on the rear wings are both Verstappen and Perez's cars. So it's clear that something that's been recurring. And the FI has been happy with that. And it's always the same specifications. It's not like you can run a different wing in qualifying to the race. So it always has to be the same specs. So I do see where Toyota is coming from because obviously, yeah, it's frustrating that you see Red Bull do that three times in a row and Mercedes like couldn't even access its own part to sort of plead its case or anything. And he said that, yeah, if there was any gentleman's agreement that's now gone now and both see Red Bull argue the exact opposite, they'll say it's very black and white. It's a binary thing. It's either past the technical check or it's failed. And the Mercedes DRS failed the technical check. So yeah, again, and it all comes back to this idea of pushing the boundaries and there's even sort of politicking and things like that that you will be trying to get every last decisions go your way that you can, and that if you can prove a part might fail, then you say, well, obviously we're gonna fit a new one. You would clearly do that. From Mercedes, yeah, I asked host of all flight. Is this just bad luck? And he said, well, I don't see any sort of bad luck in motor sport. That's just not how it works. But Mercedes have been very unlucky, because yeah, if someone had, I don't know if they even could have seen on the rear wing that the pod failed. Because it was that mine. But if that had been flagged by Mercedes first before it went to the FIA, they had to fix it no problem, and this none of this would have happened. Hamilton would have started on spring race on poll, probably won that and then absolutely pissed the race today as well. So it would have been a very different story, but I think that it's just a case of them pushing the boundaries. Yeah, they are going to try and go through everything they can. But I think it does mean that the Mercedes are now going to be very, very hot on anything that happens with any other team. And I think that is something that I mean, we wanted to ask Christian Horner tonight about, okay, you've changed that rear wing through races in a row. Why? And get a proper explanation. Unfortunately, Red Bull didn't put him up for any risk of media, commitments after the race today. But it'll be a question something headings castle that will put him will say, are we going to see a fourth one? Because yeah, okay, it's within the rule book, but what is really going on there? Three races in a row, that's quite a lot. And I think that's what Mercedes is trying to get at. But it's just weird that you see this pattern from Red Bull, yet Mercedes couldn't even access their own rear wing to make a decision about can we fix that part or not? Thank you so much Luke. "Lead of the championship bought with six rice. It's goes fall from being a show thing that he can really cling onto this. I think he's bryce for really suffering and all the way through this weekend. You said on thursday that if i win the championship will not lie. It's not gonna change my life and it was quite interesting comment. I think maybe a few people took a bit of the wrong way and he said again today said that we work as hard as we can with doing everything we can announcement is about whether or not is enough at the end of the season but if we give our and it's enough i'm still gonna sleepeasy at night and i thought that sort of good flesh to what he was saying is his idea. If if you give you all it's not quite good enough then you've got to just accept that and that's the way it is. I think that's probably how he treats this weekend. But yeah they did everything they could ripple ultimately didn't happen sites pastes to have left with championship. Lead over lewis. I think that's a positive result. And yeah i think going into the rest of the season we just think. Let's see what we can do. Mercedes is clearly set things up. We're going in some tracks that yeah it's gonna Flights multiples mercedes. Mexico should be really correct bull. So it's gonna be very fascinating see how it flicks back and forth between the two of them. Yeah i think max. Things considered was really pleased with today. You want to win a rights. clearly. I think it'd be pretty content with pizza. All things considered. Yeah and he did as he said he did everything they could do today and they brought her in the best result that they thought they could get which is they could ask for moving farther down at the top ten charlotte clark. Came hermit p four. He was pretty quiet for the fast off. The rice didn't see much of him. No i'm going to confess that i thought Drago i think he's pretty embrace gang to i'm gangster citing brilliant race and. That's why i think he was pretty quiet because he was just holding. Mp three doing what he needed to do much like tasks was doing as well but he did come in more to the story line and to our screens. When of course they flats with the idea of this no stafa. He took the lead But then they did bring him in. Before mercedes of course made say saw his performance dropping off but lake going straight t. Tell us more about your views on the class. Great drive today then. Yeah it was. It was really good. I mean he was on pace with potassium for basically over the first and even he said he was quite surprised by that and he said what was even more surprising because ferrari trimmed out the era a little bit below downfall sets up. My taps would have liked to say and obviously. If it's raining you want as much downforce as possible. Really and they didn't have that and he said the setup wasn't brady optimal conditions but he was still able to keep pace with a sappington with buses pretty. Well that will points when. Yeah the club was vice. It's the stockland most bata send you kind of think he might. Shaw have shout hair and yet when we had for our over the radio in say yet we can go all the way to the end. It was it was Mary look let's go for it. I think similar mercedes. Go into a position whether i realize it ain't gonna walk class All in the end get people but a show. I think ferrari. They're not. I mean they wanna finish that this season obviously but to them whether they finish the fourth ashley. It's not going to be. It's not going to make-or-break or team Light it's still not where they wanna be. which i. which is the champion. Which is winning races. So i just really liked today. They let's just gun for gopher it Greis on yeah. I think the he ultimately didn't come and the optimum time that's why he was easy for comparison the quizzing stages yeah ready to drive from inside and i think that anytime that ferrari can keep pace with the leading zan's i think that's a radi really impressive. Yeah whiled onto charles yeah. His pace was very very impressive. Today jess asked we talked to and of course he then fell into that trap. That lewis found himself in with not being able to pay the optimal time. Do you think that there was more potential for show today. Had he pitted at the optimal time He's already said that he doesn't regret it until he sticks by the decision they made. But what did you think with the power of hindsight that we keep talking to. But that's the problem. Isn't it when we're in my mind when we're racing. We don't have that power of hindsight li- light luke. I think i mean. I think the world feed kind of gift did ferrari the desi today because the radio cool sounded like ferrari had no idea what was going on and they leaving shells at to decide in that. That was amazing. Message where they basically just said well if you stay in this position shells and you keep both tasks behind you. You'll finish p. One which sounded like captain of fierce Kind of feedback. But i do think obviously has pointed out. That was a little bit more than we got to hear behind the scenes but Yeah i think it was. It was one of those solutions situations where they had nothing to lose really like as in like obviously as pointed out they want to get as many points from every racist possibly can but when we look at where look finished actually not not really anything was lost in terms of points gained and taken him. The fact and i were going to be caught. A science A little late but the fact that we're talking about double points finish ferrari this race. I think that's that's not something that we thought it was going to be on the call site not so long winded way of saying. I think i don't don't think we could have expected anything more from ferrari in collect day. I think they absolutely maximize what they can do. They showed a little bit of bulls in terms of even considering the the zero Stop approach. But yeah i think ultimately they they played it the way that they had to and they've got double points finish. They have indeed and of course. They've closed that gap a little bit to mclaren. I think it's a seven point. Five points difference. Now is daniel ricardo. Who didn't finish in the points. He sought to the back of the pack. And we all going to be one. Call us signs right now. He uses started at the back but he was a man on a mission. Today he made up plenty of positions to finish p eight. He got driver of the day and he put in some fantastic that we were able to see it but was he your driver of the date today. Leak you go fast. He's up there. Definitely very pence onset. He yeah. I don't think i've said this on the podcast before. And it's this isn't about invalidating. Fan views a toll. And i just want to make very very clear but driving the day does away. Tense guys the drive. If someone starts to the back may charge three and they make all survivor takes..

"Has so much experience from ladies that he would have been valuable. I think to pretty much. Every single team may be except for red bull and ferrari. They know how it is to be a big operation that drives the yeast to that. But he's going to bring a huge amount t- out for i think the eight say. Yeah it's a good little setup. there. I think that that. Sort of salga ron operation. It's always been nine for punching above. Its way produced. Some one for drivers. I is charlotte. Clark think being probably the most recent example. So i think it's it's going to be a good fit for him and i think also the stability of multi deo which is something you never had it mercedes. We always have this yearly sauger about okay. All they're gonna keep him all they know but now he knows that the next is he will be out for. May i i if i said. He spoke to our colleague adam cooper and told him that he wants to be a team leader. He wants to be the man driving forward. And it looks like whoever is teammate is going to be. It's going to be someone with minimum f. One experience if any it's all so i think yeah bolts asks. He's going to be very important to you. That team now and i think after a number of the as sort of being next to louis Being the wing man of course that semi really dislikes being cold it was never really his team and it never it was gonna be his team either by think without fake hamby voucher. same. I think he can really be built around him and give him a chance. I think to maximize the results. Because he's he's been a great fulmer. i mean. I think you look at sort of the so-called number two drivers i think he's been locked closer to lewis hamilton one of if not the great civil time than others. You're barak hellos. You weather's people like that so Yeah i think it's going to be reduced site. And see what we can in his environment and hopefully be able to recapture some some of his best form. He does have a chance to thrive out for a mayor and moving on george russell than This has been a long time in the making. Hasn't it We were talking about this last year. Obviously has was retained for another year even after they starring performances Sacrifice when lewis. Hamilton was laid off with kevin. George russell took over but john starting with the Was that early really. One option for mercedes was russell's talent too. Good for them to to miss really. Yeah with the only other contender possibly could have been You obviously has been backed by mercedes for wall. But he's he's made his future alpine. He's done a great. I think a good season saw this season against fernando alonzo this year irrespective of winning hungary Shut himself wires embedded himself well as earned a fresh contract so he wants. All calm was off the table. I think it was all mice tonight brainer. Because you have to do something with george. He had anything he could have stayed at williams despite the progress they are making i think he kind of needed needed something to push him forward because if he remained williams for full season i think there was a danger. He could be cost as only enough williams there people with the beginning question. Why why on mercedes taken him to mercedes. So i think it was important to move him on too complicated to move. Many errors said the one place that made the most sense was mercedes Of obviously there would have been some they considerations from taito. Because you've got vowed he's been a team player. He's been a very harmonious environment off the trouble. Between nick. rosberg ann lewis hamilton. We saw with. George in secular series willing to speak out is willing to push hard. He's winning say things. And i'm going to be intrigued to see how it goes up louis. Hamilton because i think georgia's per scientists want to sit back and not fight and push for what he wants and he's going to be competitive and he's gonna wanna prove a point As one of tito's embracing himself for few more headaches from next year. How do you think is going to go next year. Look at mercedes. Yeah that could that could be fireworks. I think it's small non absolutely give it. I think that it's being. I think the partnership between lowest vows theory. That's exactly what mercedes needed off the girls by air because they didn't quote very tense and explosive and friendship towards the end. The team has come together. Radio radio i think is very united team now and it's going to be really interesting. Just how much thighs push next year. Because as john said georgia's kinda passing he's gonna just sit back once number two driver and if he's got an opportunity to type the fights lewis. He's absolutely going going to do that. And that's treats was always while he was so over the summer. He writes his back he was asked about it and he said that he didn't necessarily see the needed to be any change atmosphere. These four next year and even at spa of qualified second in the end finished second as well in the race. That wasn't really. He had a hick was not not overflowing with compliments. He was sort of complementary. But not exactly very warm and embracing whereas zandvoort lewis sums really sticking up about george saying as ready humble guy operator oversaw got spoiled router exceeds guy here on the at george golbright future and it was interesting. See that's changed. So yeah i think maybe that was him sort of coming to terms with what was going to happen that he will be working with. George staffel i've got to sort of get used to it and pull the team forward but i think it's just going to be a fascinating fascinating dynamic because you've got louis. He's going into the final years of his career now of wants. The eighth title really cement himself at the top of all those statistical lists the wins polls while championships and then go jaw. Cheat doesn't have any of those things right now and yet he knows that sort of as the next man like he's gonna be the man to probably take over when lois does retire and leave mercedes into the future. So yeah it's going to be very interesting. I think that. I think mercedes has done a lot of good work during this time with both think. Maybe they'll be better prepared this time around for when they're all so these spicy on track moments that they had between lewis nico for example but Yeah i think with joy it's gonna be really interesting. It's a very dynamic for the team. And yeah i just come white. See how it guys. And just lastly then because that really brings williams into play with the whole silly season lineup. We kind of expect nicholas latifi to say you'll compete sei. Said he'd be very very happy to keep the canadian on board but it seems to be a straight by the between alex. Autobahn nick race. Who do you think is going to get that drive and on what grounds if you like. Yeah my money will be on divergence for that. I think that we know that rebel. And now we know they want williams that step preference spa. The fact that thais offers made quite clear if albany goes williams. He needs to be free of his rebel linked so that obviously he's going to be racing. Thank you with a mercedes power unit. I think that might be a bit of a jailbreak affordable because ultimately he's a young drive at a lot of time and effort and money in say. I don't think they would be happy to lose him. So i- i reckon the that may point towards albain going to alfa romeo ferrari of said the then. Instead they don't have a say over and synergy of nazi anymore..

"Given the kind of the pace advantage volunteers that he had over the calls at he was having to pass. But we also neither Tricky tracked pasta on. He did make his way up that grit so he proved that it was possible to poss- 'cause out on track which is which is a good thing but yeah he kind of he. He did his ambitions right at the very beginning by flash spotting a set of hearts which you've immediately pays off on the boxer and making life very tricky for the team which are trying to manage a race win out front. Shall we say mentioned so. Yes take it away from him too much. It was still a good drive considering how disappointing qualifying ben full him. And you know it was great to hear him getting ready fired up again with so i mean i guess we're getting used to back the grip checker climbing back up to to the to the top ten if not winning and as he has had to do for his Fest ninety act prepay victory but it shouldn't be that difficult. You're in a red bull you shouldn't you shouldn't be making life hard for yourself. You should be maximizing. Pardon the pun. I guess on the fact that you you you can drive this cough false in you have that pace. Volunteers second Is tricky on. I'm sure everybody's going become an may about second right besiktas and the fact that we know that it's tricky in its other drivers before him. Abo- struggled so I don't wanna take it away from him. It was delicate. Dr butts audit thing. He was driver of the day material. Sorry i think there are other. Drive is more deserving of driver of the day i sold. I'm saying yes. And i know that leaky said you. That pig athletes. You'll drive the day and we're gonna come onto him nex but before we do. I wanted to stay with check For second longer. Because i mean yes. It was a good recovery drive. He got p. Seven bought. We saw with max that the call was capable of a lot more. And as you've just mentioned when it comes to the construction championship the teams need. Both the drivers in the mix not really doing recovery drives. They need them at the front of the pack supporting one another. How do you think red bull will be looking at performances like today. I mean obviously christian has come out and said it was a good recovery drive etc but he needs up front. Yeah exactly and they need to work out saturday's qualifying because it's the second weekend in roy. Where peres had a pretty lousy sap today those attrac- evolution and reporting a lot of factors came together in qualifying. Estee was a delay getting the end of the line and it was the a little bit too much fuel on the cards. Lotta of things added up the meant. The perez shuffled out of qualifying in sixteenth place. And he often said that. He thinks he could put the car on the front row. The grade which is a think about the third or fourth time. He said that this year and he's been quite is been quite honest this year about the had with the call but this week any genuine sound like he had like things figured out he was really happy with our handling how is feeling and yet he really get a chance to actually show that in in the rice at the very front of the pack. Yeah it was a good charge through the field bought as jeff said. Let your in one of the fossils. 'cause it's not it's not like it say is not picking up the points that you should be yeah peres. What's come home eighth. It's it's meant the red bull on a weekend where they've talked qualifying dominated. The race had a very slight but decisive edge. Over bowl over eighty. Sorry they've actually come away losing ground in the construction championship. Which is not all rebel needed. And i think they just need peres to yet take that step up. They need to begin this as stays absolutely foot perfect. Because it's those little mistakes. That track is specialize on is so so costly so yeah. I think that i think is getting our think. Peres growing more comfortable with the car. I think that cheryl says complete blank slate so it will change things but he yeah he just needs to. We need stop having this saturday conversations with her Something happened again. What was it like in east bay just absolutely like spotless no issues. I did the job. I'm on their front. I'm getting points and win this constructors championship for red bull. And you have said on twitter at state. That ashley would be your drive today. Not sergio saturday perez. Why would we be your driving today. Of course he started with finish ball. Fatness south says enough. But why a you backing. Pf drive today. Because he was just perfect there. I think the endre see what what's supposed driver. Racing's up i think guiseley has to be absolutely perfect ten because he just did absolutely nothing wrong all weekend. Mean steak valve atari fourth on the grid ahead of the ferraris mclaren's the alpine's the aston martin's dasa stonking result like really really significant and then in the race. He was just obviously perfect right the way through he. He had the measure of charlotte. Clark it was a pretty risky strategy. The alpha torrey went for they them quiet and he had to go. I think it was something like forty eight laps on that sir and yet he was able to do that so i think he deserves so much credit for what he did..

"It was just nonstop it putin all of our emotions were there was the retirements wayne. The everything it would just had absolutely all week and get straight into it. I mean i don't really know what to stop but we're going to stop the stock as that seems like the my surgical place in this craziness and let's discuss that opening lap and all of the chaos from those collisions. Nick just talk us through. Where who went. Rabat vowed bossass just kicking off us. Chaotic scene yeah totally and i think when we look at the state i think it boils down into two separate incidents so the first one was as you say pretty obvious it was value bought us. I'm at fault for that. So he made a pretty bad star and he slipped behind landowners in a couple of other drivers on that rundown seats one and then just to pay to completely misjudge his breaking point and placid right into the back. Norris that said norris then on into the path of the stepan both houses carbon spayed off to the other side and went into the path of perez is both red bull cars or taken our in them in one fell sweep and perez was eliminated on the spot as was both tasks stopping he had majorities losses whole right hand side barge board. But he was able to get back to the pits under the red flag. They could do some repairs not all repairs. Because he didn't have a lot of damage carrying through the rest of the race. And i mean looking at the onboard of the instant amazed even back in the race such big hair and it really did hit very fragile. Sort of area of the costume between the between the wheel and the bourgeoisie away. The suspension everything quite exposed. So yeah i think he was. He was quite fortunate that and and then in the second instant we saw straw who. I don't know where he was going by. It looks like he kind of driving onto the grass and he explained artists he just trying to avoid all the instances and everything going on but he said that the moment he hit the brakes new messed up and he kind of hit the brakes and tried to get off to the right and to avoid charlotte clark in front of him but didn't completely took clerk then that in turn spun. Daniel carter as well off. So you've got is going all over the place to avoid these. Various instance sand. Yeah then that leads to the to the crazy order that we were left with that would ultimately define how this race result looks. it was. Yeah pretty dramatic instance of see red pretty pretty unhappy. They made the comment. The spa taken out by mercedes again on the first laps not ideal but yeah the obviously nine staying any conspiracy theories or anything like that but it's it's very unfortunate for right obviously very unfortunate swell. He had to retire by getting back to the pits under that red flag. Yeah it was. It was crazy but it did allow some big gains. That we saw of your nicholas. Tv they made huge gains. Under all that. And i both made up ten positions say san carlo science saint via sonoda. Yeah radio requires crazy instance. Luckily it was. It was good that everyone walked away. Because obviously yeah sean side that even slow speed corner like term one is always a worry particularly when the seventy drivers involved and yeah. I made the joke on twitter. Nicholas proper picture this week of himself in a tank and nobody knew why i didn't. I didn't get a friend of mine. Need us off some. Pr work lawyer because this really funny but that that is what it was for. He needed to time to survive toubon hungary through two thoughts. Yeah i mean that pingelap really just sets us up for everything else. That was to unfold from van. We knew we were going to be in front absolutely crazy crazy race as you mentioned the damage to the red booze to the redwoods anthrax Get him back out. Went into the lane. When it was red flagged. I was actually about to. We're gonna try. And get into with max as they were doing the from his call. But it was just hectic. I mean you could feel the stress and all of the emotions as mechanics harder. Walk trying to get it fixed but as you said i mean. We were surprised that they sent him back out as well. Just what did you make that. She think it was read. Burgess thinking low. We need to keep a car in the game. I mean we know how efficient and handed remember saw. They have pulled some absolute wildy fixes. Actually i guess no ironically but maybe Interestingly hungary shit when this time last year hungary lost year um when they managed to do that incredible fix on the grid when again during slightly soggy reconnaissance lap stop and had his off and caused damage before the race statement begun so i think ripple if they could run a call that we're gonna run a call they call. That's how tight the championship is. They can't afford to lose any more. Eddie more points in in this championship if they are looking to secure that that constructors championship as well as obviously the driver's championship but it's constructed as we will know where the money is And they think we're just gonna if the call could run they were gonna run it and it was going to be a damage-limitation race are not exactly what we what we saw. I think max ended up saying Afterwards after the race that had his call had less downforce in the house which is kind of to give you a context of a max's dealing with because we know that house is a bit of to drive and but we saw some great bustles with schumacher's house which again was something may be the amount of things that we said on the on the sky coverage when we head ensure we're gonna get down the line but we had so many weird things coming over commentary like crofty getting excited. That hamilton was passing driving. That say which is not exactly something that we used to hearing any excitement around. That's usually hamilton passing back. Mauka but not instance. It was fa- position but a similar thing when we still Battling shema which was a great battle it was a it was a for shaimaa garth It was it was a race for him getting out by out and racing against these drivers with labeling as superstars..

"Worry martin. He was like when if it's flat one. Then that's just ridiculous and he stuck to that line completely after the race and he said that it was. It was a stupid move. Sorry a bit stupid. I don't know that too strong by socio perez and yeah he shouldn't have been there on the outside that for what did he kind of expects and yes so he obviously was very very tired about it and rightly so but the two penalty points. He picks up along with five second penalties on ten points. Now which is only two away from a race ban. He will lose to those because they were accrued last year. Steering grumpy is two of those drop off before silverton. So he's all night. But i still still a quite high number. And then he won't lose anymore. I think until november so it's quite a while so it's yeah it's an interesting one and then associate peres. I mean he was. He was actually quite quite open and put his hands up about the about the clerk. I think maybe kind of realized okay. Well i can't be aggrieved about norris on that's i kind of put my hands up about about my moves and i did one during the race actually and i don't know this either way whether the red bull actually told him. The norris picked up a penalty for that because obviously it's a twenty laps. Red bull. Sorry it's twenty lots for the faa to make that decision by that point see norris was running what pcp three perez was still backing. Sold nine ten. So he wasn't racing ours whatsoever and really i think red bull in my they might just thought okay. We're not going to sell check because it's not his race anymore. What's the point. But then him not knowing that might he have gone into that leclerc battle and thought well. I'm just going to do exactly the same then. I don't know they might have tall peres. That's just a theory. On my part. I would be interested in our about. Yeah christine horne. I mean he he said mid race. He said he didn't see he didn't see why that was would be a penalty for norris and knowsley as a team. You would normally be banging the drum as much as you count your drive to gain an advantage in to see a driver allegedly wrong yours be penalized and he didn't. He said racing so so. Yeah it's been a very interesting mixed responses and obviously checker couldn't be too too angry about what happened with landau without themselves. Soga while i got done too so yeah i mean he was able. He put his hands up and said. Yep the moves on the clerk checkup. Shouldn't it shouldn't have done that. In the way i day should left the calls with michael massey. Also talked about after the race Charlotte clark. He said he was very angry about it on the sun. Besides he was fighting so much with peres and that did lose him. Ground paths when it comes to that. Late ricardo fight that he couldn't get ahead so so yes i think it's been an interesting mix reactions and i think that come drivers briefing sylvia's i think that's going to be a very interesting one. See where this comes up again and sort of what the drivers say about. I did pick up the christian horner comment as well. And i think that that makes fans even more wary about the penalty situation. When like you said the person who is has apparently been wronged. The team saying none. I just racy incident and then learn behold they get a penalty it does just make it even more gray area which is really very helpful aso. But let's stay on red bull for a moment because of course max tappan charging to the wind day. It looks very easy for him album every day. He didn't look like well. He wasn't under threat at any point during the rice. Jesse was just in his race. Ready wasn't hey. Just just a case of driving hyman already worrying about anything else. That was happening. Another really commanding performance from stop stop-and he is just such a stellar driver. I mean we know what this this race track is is like track position is everything and once. You're ahead as long as you can manage your tires in euro right then. It's usually pretty straightforward rice. Sorry yeah i think it's just i mean we've been waiting for this right like a lot of people been waiting for. Actress happen to be given a world championship comp- competing car and he now has one amazing. How much in a mercedes. Just doesn't have the answer here. And i think something else. We touched on in terms of the rest of the championship. I think citizens going to be very pivotal in understanding where the championship is going to go. Because the ripple ring is a strong track for red boat has been off for a number of seasons. And i think that it's it's it's where we would expect them to do to do. Well silvestre is a mercedes track. And i think the result of that coupled with the fact that we've looked had too much coupled with the fact that we have a sprint race introduced this going to throw everything into the mix heartfully. I mean. that's why for once right and it's going to be really interesting because i think that's going to be the moment where we go all right. Is this championship in rebels. Hands and can mercedes do anything to stop the charge of the bulls. But it's really. It's really interesting. I think the only thing that max really hot to even really have to worry about it. He had a he had a slash thing can tie the as engineer. It was a bit worried about it. Because he wants to go the fastest lap even though we already had foster slap which i found quite funny he wants to push the fastest lap and it was already pretty much have reached. But i mean he'll go about second pissed off and was able to to push that further average for anybody else so he took maximum points higher in front of a home crowd and actually not to jump from topic. To topic is the end of a triple header. Please give me some leniency here. But how amazing to do that in front of those fans. I mean with that. Ariana it must have been so incredibly awesome to see. I mean if that's australia. Highly crap will sound book going to be like because it was absolutely just like i mean it really is kind of one of those nature is healing tight moments of seeing those fans back and i mean the noise that came off it through the t. v. was insane so being there. I can't even imagine. But for max delivered i in front of those fans. Look can you can even fault max like this weekend. I'm not even sure there is a step row. You locked up on his ron.
