"As me, but not bad. So he had an empire at Red Bull. And then these new rules come around, things shake up again, and Mercedes is on top with Lewis Hamilton. And for the next many years, like 8 years pretty much, Mercedes is on top until last year, Max Verstappen won the driver's championship, and that was the first time in the era of the turbo hybrid that a non Mercedes driver won the championship. It was all Lewis Hamilton, and then one championship by Nico Rosberg, who retired and just became the nerdiest YouTuber in the world. Yeah, it was pretty awesome to see Lewis and George Russell so high up on the grid. Previously this season, you know, they've really struggled to have to find the pace to get even that high. So I was really stoked. So I think this race, if we're going to get into the race itself, I think the appropriate name for this episode is what's going on with Ferrari. Yes. Because basically the French Grand Prix was a little boring, but Ferrari was a little bit of a nightmare. And I think that's a really good, it's a really just encapsulated version of Ferrari in 2022. The year of our lord. The year of our lord 2022. So Charlotte Clare started off, led the race, he's doing fine. Everything was fine. All seemed fine. Max was within like a second of him for a fair portion of the race. Yeah. I couldn't really quite get close enough to pass even with the DRS, the drag reduction system. Wait, I thought DRS stood for something else. Yeah. Even then because Ferrari's engine is so powerfully struggled to catch up even with the assistance of having lower drag of the drag reduction system. So I thought that was quite interesting. And thought that there might be an opportunity somewhere all truck just had to mess up one time in max probably could have passed at some point. It was far as race to lose. It was chuck's race to lose. Max had that DRS access for much of the race behind Charles, but was not able to catch up and pass the Ferrari because that Ferrari engine is so powerful. When they're on it, they are on it. They are on it. They are Ferrari. Yes. Around lap 14 signs is working his way up through the field, trying to get to Charles. It looks like he's going to be able to make an impact on the race with Red Bull. But a couple laps later, TV cuts two.

"Week's episode. We can't wrap this Hungarian Grand Prix review up without talking about the Hungarian Grand Prix. Fortunately though, there are two main topics from this one. One, Max Verstappen, one hand on the title. Now, we already talked about it being decided after France, blown out to 80 points. That means he can finish second for the rest of the year, or if he wins the next 5 races, he'll win the title in Japan. So Ferrari have gone. Okay, we now remember how to build fast cars. So we've got that damn pat. But in terms of it's like the old Jerry, it's like that Seinfeld thing. You're happy to take the reservation. You just don't know how to fold. The reservation. So you can design these very fast cars, but you don't know what to do with it. Big Carlos. Even when the drive is going, are you sure real? What are you doing? So yeah, Ferrari just haven't quite worked that point out yet. And I remember I gave Ferrari the benefit of the debt last week when you said that just not ready to win the title yet they're close, but they're not ready. I'm like, surely they could turn it around. This was it. This was it. This is where they use another Australian expression. This is where they shoot the bed. Oh, yes. Because this like I had done. They can't come back. Because making all these errors. And to the point where, yeah, if the drivers narrow where the errors are and it's frustrating to them. It's disappointing because it's not every day you get a Ferrari. That good. It's very cool. It was a faster car on the weekend. It was one of the Grand Prix Max Verstappen spun out of the lathe by some mysterious gust of wind. And still manages to overtake the was it both Ferraris in the entity? Well, you only had to overtake with Claire on the track. I think I'm pretty sure. Science was in the pit stops. Yeah, so there was an era and he still recovered from it. And Ferrari was supposed to be the quicker car on the way. He started tenth. Is that a tenth? Yeah, so yeah, they're done. It's really bad. They're closer now to Mercedes in the standings than the other Red Bull. So the 97, I think, behind Red Bull. 30 ahead of Mercedes. 30 points. Charles Leclerc is 80 points behind Verstappen as we said. He's only 20 ahead of George Russell. He has to win a Grand Prix in his life. He's 20 points behind Charlotte Clare, which I say. Are we willing to say, I think I might be willing to say, I hope Ferrari comes back stronger after the break, but on the other hand, you know, since it would be wasted because they're not going to win the championship. No. I think Mercedes will not only beat them to second in the constructor standings. I think at least one Mercedes driver is going to finish your head of Charles Leclerc. Mercedes driver, they might not even win a race and still do it. Could George Russell become the first world champion to win a world championship without. Just purely by just turning just by turning up. Just my favorite champion. The stealth champion. Yes, great nickname. I'd love to say it. Not a fan of the behavior last year, but I actually would love to say it. It's completely different now. Well, it's not completely different now, but it's a bit different now. With George Russell, he's nice. People like him. Yeah. It is staggering to think that he has a more of an outside chance than shot look low. Does it this stage? It is, do you remember the aisle never forget? I was walking out of the Australian Grand Prix with a colleague. And everyone was talking about this. So it's not even a unique story. David Croft is not interesting story. But we're walking out wondering when Ferrari was going to how early they were going to wrap up the title. Dominated in Australia. But clay was 43, 43 points. 43 points up in the standings after three rounds. He's now 80 behind. Yeah, 80 behind. It's a 123 point ship to Verstappen. It only ten rounds. That's more than ten around. Yeah, you know it's bad when it's right digits. That's frustrating. It's to go. Yeah. I tell you what. On right uno on Ferrari 360. Toronto and Roberto. Instead of the third is like the Peter oven.

This weekend, it's the British Grand Prix round ten, which means we're not even halfway through the season yet. How can we raise a 22 race this season not even halfway yet, but the season might already be over as we talked about last week. Max Verstappen has got quite a healthy lead. He does, not enough for a majority for the House of Representatives. It's too close to call. We just need L'oreal. What's his face? Who's the Christian Altman? Depending on your local capital city. Name them to go. Yeah. Preferences and all that sort of jazz. I think every round forget as great as Ted's notebook is and it's great trying to Herbert on a bicycle in lycra previewing a track going oh, I broke my legs he won. He's great. How did they do that? One track to me. I think it's the same rundown throughout 2016. Dust it off. They won't remember this time next year. Maybe bring a different shirt. Yeah. Maybe bring the blue one instead of the big shit this year, Johnny. Again, I forgot my points. Yes. We need more CGI graphics. We need more sort of just like elections when people are public servants and booted out of their states. Yes. They need to be disgraced by some novelty boot kicking them up the bum. Out of parliament. So therefore, we need to do the same with Formula One drivers once they're mathematically out of contention for this year's world title. So we can do like you can do it have a big purge. They scrub off mix shoemaker and Kevin Magnussen as good as they are. Not going to happen. I'm not happening tender Ricciardo, put him there quite easily. But once we have Nicholas Latifi, for example, he's going to have that for when they when people get usurped out of driver's seats. Yes. Yes. You could just have a CGI animation of the great WhatsApp message is going around of Nicholas Latifi. So we're knocking on the door, the clock says three. There's a chain saw. Under the influence. It's bikes. Yes. They've come to collect. And a big sign that says three days later. No sponsors in the background. Just the black fabric. That's great. Because, you know, manscaped dot com, though. This disgrace. I look forward to the coverage improving over a couple of years to remind you of the championship picture because it's been a shockingly for Formula One a week off racing. You might have forgotten Max Verstappen leads by 46 points ahead of Sergio Pérez, not even Charles Leclerc. Leclerc is 49 points off for 9. Then comes George Russell of all people, 64 points off, so that's getting a bit of a long shot. Carlos signed 73 points off by he's getting ready for the boot. Lewis Hamilton almost the full hunch, he's 98 points off the title lead. But might be in contention as we're talking about to win this weekend if the car stops being such a mongrel. And as per my earlier officer dramas, I'm actually I feel like not those Hamilton, but George Russell. Yes. Maybe the way forward on that front. So for Mercedes, I think they're definitely wants to watch. And I hope to be watching it in the correct time zone instead of the 5 minutes highlights. That's okay. I owe it to the audience. To suffer with them. Yeah, we look real good at shuffle together, don't we? Now, the other thing here though is we talk about sky maybe dusting off last year's script. Maybe Charlotte Clare should spend the week or should have spent the week watching last year's British Grand Prix. Yes. Because of course, this time last year, we thought max was about to walk it. He was 30. On Lewis Hamilton and that lasted about one lap in the race, not even one lap, got all the way to cops, which about halfway through halfway and the corners. The only corner name I remember because of that crash. Maggots obviously. It's funny. But then I crashed that'd be crashed and as a result, the difference was halved or more. And then, of course, max was having another crash in Hungary and then Lewis Hamilton was in the lead of the championship. So, things can turn around fast if you crash. Well, if Sharla clone just hangs on in there, he may want to. On the inside. Yes. Which I don't doubt during free practice. Let's play Sky Sports if one bingo. And let's play Red Bull Racing bingo. So first one Sky Sports within the first half an hour. If your David Croft references.

"Join for our Friday night look of Barcelona free practice by our technical editor Jake boxhall leg and you've been doing live today so you must be well and truly on top of everything that's happened today. House Friday goes. Oh, it's been a long one. For some reason, all of the sessions are so much further back now. I think I did assume it's because of the changed media schedule, but this is like the first. I guess proper time we've seen it because we've had races in weird time zones at the start of the season, I guess we had it a bit in imola, but that was a sprint race weekend. And so we get to what is probably the most average middle of the road race weekend of the season and suddenly we've got FP one at 1 o'clock and it's like what are we going to do this morning? But it's been very, very interesting. Had a new new faces in FP one this morning. Lots of new upgrades as well. So there's a lot to talk about. Yeah, nice to see Nick de vries on track earlier today as well. A free practice one ended with the Ferraris on top. One and two Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in that order. We saw vips on track as well and Robert Kubrick also so good to see him in the Alfa Romeo, anything notable that you want to talk about from FP one? It was very interesting. Obviously, it was kind of like early days, FP one, and everybody's trying out their upgrades just to see what works and what doesn't. With regard to the three, I guess two of them new faces and one of them an old hand that we're all very, very used to seeing now in FP one Sessions. Was doing kind of tire running and tire programs for Red Bull, so we didn't really set a representative time. And so he was P 20. So I'm sure there are some people that are on their keyboards right now going, you know, who are these Red Bull development drivers, but the truth is, yeah, rebels actually very, very happy with the work that he did. I think from an objective standpoint as well, when you're entitled race, this new F one regulation of having young drivers in for two practice sessions a year. That's kind of something Red Bull doesn't really want to deal with. So rather than give him soft tires and potentially risk him just clouting it into the barrier, it just made more sense for him to just do some tire logging. And then of course, yeah, we saw Nick to race in the Williams. Fresh away from Berlin. He had a chance on Tuesday to do a post race interview with some of us and then it was straight off to Spain and get acquainted with what was effectively a new team for him. So he acquits himself well and was quicker than Nicholas Latifi. So that was an interesting footnote in the session. And then, of course, Charles Leclerc led that session Max Verstappen could have potentially gone a little bit quicker, but it was a Ferrari one two in that session. FP two, where they stick the soft tyres on and although the engine modes are turned way, way down. We can start to read a little bit into the form this weekend and that's why we've got you on tonight because you have an eye for all the things that have turned up in Barcelona. So Charlotte Clare once again leading the way with the one 19 .670, but behind him, just over a tenth, just over two tenths behind were Russell and Hamilton in the Mercedes. Of course, who topped for Miami Friday. So I don't want to read too much into this, but there is a lot of upgrades that Mercedes have bought, but the key is getting on top of the bouncing, which was physically painful for the drivers, but also something that they have taken longer than, say, Ferrari, who were Ferrari have been suffering from this bouncing, but seemed to be able to, in the braking zones, mechanically re-engage those Ferraris so that the performance, although it was probably uncomfortable, it didn't look great in the Ferraris. It didn't harm their performance the way it was harming Mercedes. Can you just tell us in your opinion how it's going to catch it's not designed to trip anyone up because like I said, they top Miami. But in your opinion, the upgrades they've bought to Barcelona. What are they doing? What are they trying to solve and is the pace as genuine as it seems? Well, first and foremost, I think the problem with the bouncing that Mercedes seems to have in Ferrari doesn't is that it's not knocking the forest driver's confidence and they can get whatever they need to get reattached reattached ready for the braking zone and so they've got this down force going into the corner and they've got it on the exit. Mercedes seems to have this horrible issue where it does bounce and therefore they're having to get right off the throttle because the drivers just aren't confident enough going into the corners. And that does seem to be an issue with its erstwhile floor and they do have a new one for Spain. And it seems to have helped quite a lot. We've just literally just now gone through all of the post race interviews with drivers and both the driver seemed a lot happy. George Russell was obviously a little bit cautious because he, as you say, he had topped Miami and it didn't go quite so well in qualifying, but Lewis Hamilton did seem noticeably happier than he has done at any stage this season..

"It was equal parts the old course and sweetness cove. It was so firm. They dropped hundreds of tons of sand on this site. It was only 3000 yards. It was the most fun I've had playing golf in the United States and months, if not years. It was awesome. Strong endorsement. And the place, gyms, the restaurant on site, I've never seen anything like it domestically. It was like a true community park. It was probably 80% non golfers and 20% golfers sitting out in this big courtyard. Alameda was delightful Cora park. You got to go check it out next time you're in the middle of the refuge roost 'cause you were out there for a put on by the NorCal chapter. No offense to anyone else. That was the best refuge event I've been to thus far. Look it up. If you're out in the Bay Area, look up the local roost, they're getting some good stuff going. The north cow got TC was pleased when he got back. He was raving about it on our team calls on Monday. Buzzing. Yeah, he was. All right, F one. F one for what about ism Grand Prix in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia? Things kick off with a rebel missile strike hit an oil depot 9 miles from the track on Saturday after qualifying. There was a four hour meeting debating whether or not they were going to be it's a long meeting. Doing the race, I think the team principals came back at like one 30 a.m. to help complete the meeting or something like that. The drivers were still in the meeting. There was all kinds of stuff lying around about how, you know, what are the consequences should we have this race? What are the consequences if we don't have this race with Saudi Arabia's history with what they've done with WWE and which is that alone? Just amazing. I read that. I was like, wait, what happened? Why are we doing this? They wouldn't let the wrestlers leave? It's such a bizarre organization to ground on the tarmac for a while. Yeah. We always look to Formula One to be the moral. The sports moral compass for everything here. So I'll stick to sports. But they did, they did run the race. They ran the race, and it was, it was kind of a weirdly, it was dramatic finish, but I felt like it was weirdly not dramatic. I feel like it was Max Verstappen wins, comes from behind with a pretty dramatic overtake of Charlotte Clare coming down the finish and I felt like it was kind of almost routine. It was weird and then Charles was trying to, you know, the last two laps get him back. It seems like there's so much more strategy with these new cars with like you can't overtake too quickly because then you run the risk of giving the spot back because you give them time on the straightaway to then overtake you because then they get DRS, right? Yeah, it's something not great is going on where you're letting guys go by or you're waiting to pass in certain spots so they can't get DRS back on you and it's kind of nice for there's more overtaking than previous versions but it seems weird to have like part of the strategy be like go slow for a little while to make sure you're behind this guy so you can use the cheat codes. The Mario star mode. I don't like it. It's also really bad track. I think I was so dangerous in the hotel I had on qualifying just caught that Lewis Hamilton just laid an egg. Oh my God. I didn't make it through the first stage and they cut all these shots in the crowd. He was like, oh my God. Neil. Neil, check this out. Lewis Hamilton finished tenth today. P ten? Yeah. A Haas. I know he got beat by. And I didn't realize that there are Danish parties back. Magnussen. Yeah, good for him. That's good to see him back in the hospital. I will fix this gene. You know, I will fix this. I've been watching drive to survive. I got two episodes left. It's been really good. I've really enjoyed it. I read a lot of criticisms about it. And I'm like, I did not experience that. You watch a lot more F one than me. So a lot of this stuff from last year is kind of news to me like I knew that general storyline of Lewis and max and everything, but I didn't realize, you know, the show's making me not like George as much with the I haven't started this season yet. I don't know. Now he's in a Mercedes, it all worked out for me. Yeah, just a little, maybe too much of a pretty boy. I don't know. His whole his whole vibe is a little like it's a little bit too much team rose for me. If I was going to make a comp to golf, you know, just a lot of proud partners, very polished, very buttoned up, but also kind of smug. And then it gets in that dust up with Valtteri with Valtteri, who also reminds me of a golfer reminds me of Hatton. I feel like they're like twins, man. Hat, and the way they just their whole I don't know. The way with Hatton without a hat on is Botox to me. How they look alike. I think the other behave is very no, no. Terrell Terrell hat off. Yeah. There we go. If you will. Thank you. I'm amazed at drive to survive his ability to make whoever they flash on the screen. I'm like, oh, that's my favorite guy now. And then.

"Like Carlos Sainz, I think, has been one of those people who's jumped from team to team and just very quickly picked up what it is that they are that he's handling. So yeah, it's still not looking rosy for him. I think the point was that he probably would have wanted to come into the season and had a bit more of a chance at getting the results that he was starting to at the end of last season, but the McLaren just isn't in where any of them want. I think Lando coming home in the points at least was a good finish for them. And obviously just missed out on a spot in front of ocon. That's something at least to come home with slightly optimistic, but yeah, there's not really much to say from my partners. There's not really much to say about Ricardo. I think he was, it is what it is. The one just very clearly the one good thing for Ricardo is that it's not like last year, this stage last year where Norris was getting the really high price results. Now, I was he's not going to be able to do that because McLaren doesn't have the car that's capable. But it's not like Norris is in a different stratosphere. If Bottas Alonso don't retire and Magnussen and Hamilton are able to pit when they want, I don't think Norris is in the points. So it's not like they're in a different class, but the reason why Ricardo shouldn't get a pass what happened last year is exactly who you just named Carlos Sainz Jr. also changed teams and didn't struggle at all. That's an interesting factor there. Yeah, should gasly was 8th just behind Landon Norris and he sent me another driver. Something that came out after the race, he was in intense pain for the last 15 laps. He said the last ten laps in particular were almost excruciating and his mechanics actually had to help him out of the car. Once he'd stopped in park for may, he said he had a stabbing pain in his intestines. That it got worse every time we turn left, it got worse. So obviously hoping because that sounds like appendicitis to me. So really hoping that it's I wonder whether it might be extreme dehydration or something, something that's just not gone right, but yeah, oh God that didn't sound comfortable. So for him to have actually done somewhere, there's a lot of medical support as everyone knows that at any Formula One round and so he's got the best people around him to work out what's going on there and hopefully it's something that he can as you say like a dehydration or something issue that's nothing more and more serious. Looking at the drivers championship, Charlotte Clare leading with 45 points Carlos Sainz with 33 points. Max Verstappen in third, getting obviously his first points of the year on the board with 25 points. George Russell is fourth on 22 and Lewis Hamilton somehow in 5th with 16 points but already that gap starting. Another funny moment was the fact that Lewis had to ask if you got a point for tenth. He's so not used to finishing in those positions. He's like, do we even get a point? Can't be true. So Bono, Bono came on and told him he was tenth, and Lewis was like, do we even get a point for that? Here we go. I've come full circle now. Sorry, I don't believe for a second that Lewis had within doesn't know that rule. I think that he's well and truly he's making a point. He's making a point there. He's just gone, oh, I love it. Now I've come back. I'm a city on the city called miserable one again now. Hey, you're heading off to Melbourne in two weeks in time well in the weeks time you're getting on the plane to go. The other side of the world for us at least, and it's been a couple of years, obviously. For listeners of the auto sport podcast, who are new and I can see the download figures they're growing all the time. So we know we have some new listeners that are new to auto sport and listening to us just fill them in and fill everyone in really on what it was like for you. So two years ago, you land the role of Grand Prix editor for auto sport, a role has been held by some legendary journalists over the years and that is your first mission. That's your first race, right? So take it away from there. Yeah, so I got my dream job and then the world ended is the short version. Obviously not permanently. Thankfully. But yeah, I had a great start to 2020 I was covering formula E at the time. And we knew, obviously, there have been a fair amount of stuff change going into that year. And I knew what my role was going to be from quite early on in that January. So I went to Santiago for my last formula erase. With Matthew, who's now actually, as I'm sure you can, we've said earlier on other podcasts about Matt joining the F one team. For this year, he came with me because he took over from Marie. So we had a lovely holiday, and at the time we were also because he's so far to go. I was like, we're going to the other side of the world. It's like a 15 hour flight. We're having a whole day after this. Do you want to come back? He was like, yeah, great, sounds excellent. Because that's sort of nice guy that he is. And we were filing random stories about this coronavirus thing and how it was threatening to cancel formula E races and there were things in China. That sounds a bit inconvenient. And then obviously, as everybody knows what a massive massive impact to having all of our lives. But yeah, it was a bit, it was a bit tough, just I went all the way to Australia to do my dream job and it was quite hard not knowing when we came back, what would happen as we all know, to support magazine, had to pause for a little while. Everything was so uncertain, would Formula One itself survive. Because of the broadcast contracts in 2020, it was able to carry on, but I was a little bit. I don't know about anybody else, but I spent lockdown and for myself, so I spent the first lockdown totally solo, so I was kind of a little bit of a prisoner with my own thoughts of as it can happen. But it did, and I'm very fortunate and very privileged that it did. So yeah, I'm just really looking forward to getting to Melbourne, taking that little personal personal box. Just to say, yeah, I finally seen a Melbourne race because what a great city it is. I was very fortunate to have a couple of days instead of going on to Bahrain as the plan would have been to see that race before I came home. Obviously at that time, everybody didn't think that the lockdowns were going to last as long as they did, and it Melbourne in particular. I know what they had the world's longest lockdowns is really, really hard time for that city. So I think everybody's just look forward to the Australian Grand Prix having to see me a great spectacle. Unfortunately, the home driver, as we've said, isn't going to be in win contention. But just.

"In FP three. I remember seeing them on them. No, so they're going to want to fresh set for tomorrow. They might go medium medium hard. Well, as it turns out, you have absolutely nothing to worry about, because such a press goes. Sorry. For all the accurate branding that they've put on that Red Bull it also still says Honda on the back of it. Yeah, there's probably like some contractual. Yeah, the power unit deal. Yeah. But Honda and Acura are basically the same company as far as possible. Yeah, yeah, it's just home accuracy, American armor, effectively, I believe. Yeah, that's why accurate or the car this weekend. Yeah. It's like opal and Vauxhall. And then Holden in Australia. You've got GM and Ford as well. Yeah. So we haven't seen for stop and return to the track as our mentioned, neither Mercedes have come out onto the track Charlotte Clare, also in fourth, has also decided to remain in the pit lane. We're currently seeing Daniel Ricciardo in his lap. Not put one on the board. He's on the medium. He's got a minute left. Lando Norris who is not a small margin, either. That's .3 of a second. That's pretty much. I'd say Ricardo because you'll need to do a cooldown lap. This is the for me. I don't think he's going to make it through. Unless maybe he was just you know, it could be to be honest that watching it through the first sector, because the final sector is where you need to start faster than sonoda, who is sat in tenth in the middle sector. And they can only put his card 9th he saw them in Q one. That is that's a shock. Over Nazi who was in the danger zone, he can't go faster, Fernando Alonso here, what is he going to put his? I've just seen him put his green second executive, but it's 8 seconds off. Yeah, because he was 30 and a half seconds off. So he's he's not pushing. I think he's just gone up for a bit of a stroll here. Ofcom managed to push himself into the top ten, but Yuki sonoda has taken that place back, but we still got to see Vettel and Russell, who both have penalties on be surprised if they even they'll just be trying to get ahead of Fernando Alonso here. Which won't be difficult oxygen, his time was basically a cruise lap. Squeaky bum time for Danny Rick. And Louis, whoever's ahead of me, please don't spoil that. I'm not spoiling it. I'm still worried about that. So. Russell's probably not going to time is.

"Like. I couldn't believe that he was that fast. Close taking that angle. It was like the bravest overtake of the whole day. It was terrific and Yeah he had he had second place going around the outside of him that well are blocking radio taking up the inside of a leclair and it's it's on for the something magical about monzo in recent years we've gotten these weird winds right now. Zac brown's wet dream happening. Try peres tries. His luck on the clare at the same place but doesn't have quite the advantage into the chicane and has to bounce over the kerbs to take the position brundle immediately says that he'll have to give the place back and indeed the stewards agree handing peres a five second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage. They do this in the sprint. He did he held onto it for like half a lap and back unlike the straight i wanna say and then just like regained. It got the tow and it took a pack. Yeah it was like what is maybe. This podcast is going on. We kind of get into it right now but we should talk about at some stage bush in particular his his weirdness with cutting corners like this has happened a couple of times in races where he's not giving places like this seems pretty cut and dry overseas. You can do it. Take the penalty and it doesn't matter right. that's true. This is not one of those times. Yeah no so mazza pin hit schumacher and spend him around so still happening in the house that that relationship is awesome like can only cool that garages but yeah no perez. I feel like the form hasn't great of late and there's been a bit of bad luck but also i sure am being reminded of the kind of like avoidable miscues that sort of marked his time with Racing point Because like this decision like both in the sprint. And then to push the luck on race day with the cutting the corner and gaining alaska advantage And then like when they give him the penalty horner was like i would have expected the stuarts to let me know it was an issue and michael. We we told you that they should probably consider giving that place back immediately. Right and so kind of avoidable errors. And i don't know i don't know these are pres- decisions or prizes just kind of like getting this corners wrong and the pit walls. Not being forceful enough with them. But like totally and a great example of his lack of a of his prickliness as a number two driver. As it were is unlocked forty-three batas overtaking for points. Like peres isn't isn't banking. The points team needs in a race in which to other drivers out. I will say there's not much you can do. Because this is the thing. Like red bull has a better allow necessarily mean what brought us overtaking him. I think that's going to happen in doing stuff. Like jumping curve on chicane where anything can happen positions. Yeah yeah ju just like just keep it keep it steady. No one forced air is don't get. Don't get a time penalty where you're gonna drop place at the end. Like just like keep keep it steady. He doesn't really quick thing for a brief moment. It was like hey is gonna win this race. But he had to go to the medium tires middle of all this and it was You know examine cutting his hair. You know you just gotta let power on the hearts. But man those those mediums Just sort of washed away in the final of this race. I don't know that anybody could have done to catch those mclaren's given how much time was less than how long it took him to clear. Peres but the mediums definitely did mark the end of his charge through the field. Yeah he does get by leclair with a decisive move around the outside of turn one after coming down. Start finish straight. But that's kind of it for his tires so the the the questions come down to well mclaren let norris who is faster by ricardo. Norris even comes over the radio asking like is this really. What's best for the team. They're like yes. Don't do anything stupid. And if that's the case if norris does hold station behind the slower ricardo will. He be compromised by peres or depot. Toss if bo can get by peres in the end though. Ricardo and norris fend off everyone. Botas stays within five seconds of paris. Take third place. Meaning ricardo wins his first grand prix. Since monaco two thousand eighteen he was with red bull and mclaren get their first win since twenty twelve. Is that right. Yeah how incredible redemptive ark. For both of them ricardo of course having jumped ship from red bull and mclaren having untold troubles with honda and renault engines and incredible podium daniel ricardo landau norris and valkyrie botas. Voiding shui at all costs once again. He's a pro shui avoid. He really is behind them just off the podium charlotte clare in fourth. Good race from him. Sergio perez and and carlos signs in sixth. I'm sure the ferraris would want to do much better at at monza. Certainly much better than the mclarens who. They are racing for third in the constructors championship. But still i guess. All things considered not a bad run lance stroll in seventh alonzo an eighth george russell and ninth esteban okon in tenth. And we've got nicholas latifi. Sebastian federal antonio juvenile robert commits a mic schumacher and then the not classifieds nikitas pin lewis hamilton mattress tap and gasoline and yuki sonoda also ricardo scored the fastest lap. Yeah also latifi was Qualified had russell. For the first time. Ever i believe and was in the points for most of this race until time caught up with the williams and also george russell. Yes and that was monza. Boy we are. We're getting late in the game here. So let's just jump right into news showy. We've got some more driver. Confirmations as mentioned as rumored alabama confirmed in at williams Will pair nicholas latifi next year. that also probably staying with esten martin The i think lawrence stroll has said like. Yeah we want federal so. We hope to sign him quickly. I guess that'll hold that for something. Don't really know what's up with that. The only one we have not yet confirmed is Nazi each kind of the one up in the air i think mc schumacher also has not been technically confirmed but we expect that to To also confirmed also. I wanted to point out that. I was wrong about russell's contract being one year. I didn't see any confirmations one way or the other so i just assumed it was one year but i i saw somewhere else that it was a long term contract. Okay these things are always kind of slippery so question marks but but it has not been definitively said that it is a one year does remind me one thing. Botas seems relaxed. Now that the uncertainty has lifted last couple races. And i do wonder like getting a multi year contract for change revenue. Doing this one year one year. One year thing with mercedes Does just the stability that he has to alpha Like load off than he expected are like the last weeks of your job. You don't get shit. I ever seen like beat like being afraid you're gonna fired. You're going to be fired bad knowing you ben fired but you gotta serve out of contract great rob you wanna give us a quick version of what you found about Aston martin here So they're building a massive new facility If you go back and you listen to beyond the grid that they had with half an hour like two years ago They were in the old jordan grand prix like facility and sapphire apparently like interviewed for a job in that building like twenty year. Twenty thirty years ago But that also means it was an antique It was like jordan was never a really like top-flight operation.

Finish off crazy about spoilers. If i'd say the group chat you could say hey. Did anybody watch how about what. Hey anyone watch charlotte charlotte. You've got to do this by the way. "We had ten names lined up. If you're paying close attention you may have noticed. I only ask nine names really quickly. Hit me with your charlotte clare. Nba comparison while he is my faith after all. And i think what charlotte clare. You're talking about a guy who is a the most storied team in the sport is pinning their hopes and dreams to the man. He's thought of as a complete driver and a complete player. His nba comparison But are they actually contenders. They wished they were but they're not there yet for me. He's jason tatum. Ooh interesting one of the youngest guys out there. If i'm not mistaken as well. So that's a great comparison as well and hollowed team. Ferrari the boston celtics. And like you're saying the hopes and dreams are alongside or on the shoulders of jason. Tatum almost makes me wish that you had picked carlos sainz as jalen brown. You know another number two there something that could work in the future as well but great stuff. Sorry i completely botched. And i feel like we were at the monaco grand prix and i was the guy trying to take the right wheel off valerie tosses car and i just couldn't do it just smashing that thing on again and again and again. A bit of a bummer. But at least we got it in there. We got the second half of the f one season starting this weekend currently another eleven races on the schedule. Potential twelve to be added later in the season and f. One is coming back hot. Got a triple header on deck starting with the belgian grand prix at spa this weekend practice friday qualifying saturday race on sunday. The twenty twenty podium. Hamilton botas verstappen classic great and. What's special about spa. I spot is genuinely my favorite race of the year. It is so beautiful it to see them racing through the our den forested belgium. It's it's one of the most spectacular to watch on tv. And i'm sure would be incredible to watch in person. It's an incredibly fast. Course like silverstone austria in that way. So you guys who did well there. You might suspect would do well here. It's the longest track of the season. But it also it just has so many magical moments that are so these sunni hallowed corners Special parts of it especially the first sector la- source a rouge ready on onto the kemmel straight. That is one of the great sections of any f one track on the calendar. So this this from me is my favorite weekend year. I'm very exciting. Well just like we say with every episode of survivor. Sounds like a great time to get in this weekend. Who does the track favor you say. It's a fast one but also along you know. I think it's historically it's before ferrari kind of hato had their struggles. They were always great here. They had great engine power. But i think you know. Listen who really gonna content to win at this track. It's gonna be max lewis. I think their cars clearly the fastest here especially over time. I think ferrari can do well here. As we've shown them been able to improve on their race pace over the season and we saw them perform very well at silverstone which i think is attracted has some similarities to this year. I think other who it's again. It's it's tough to say there's always so much craziness that can throw race a mega haywire. That being said there's a lot of passing opportunities here especially on the kemmel straight. Which i believe is the longest straight of the year. So you know if you're talking about the cars with the pure pace are the ones that are probably going to end up at the top. All right tell me if this is true from nebraska jones who says spa has two of the top eight corners in f. One is he. He's gotta be he's probably referring to a ruse and either the source already on which i completely agree for me. That moment is they go up that hill and they kind of sweep left and then sweep right. You see it Iconic shot is. I think one of my favorite moments in f one all season long. So not wrong. That's the next level liking cars level one learning about tires level to having favourite corners level. Three next time we do this podcast. I'm gonna. I'm gonna break down my favorite quarters for you grading from spa. Also we go to the dutch grand prix at circuit zahn fort for the first time since one thousand nine hundred eighty five. The only question. I have for you great and do you know who was on the podium. The dutch grand prix in nineteen eighty-five. Wow gosh i don't. I don't should i take a wild stab if you type three names from the one thousand nine hundred eighty s formula driving. You will probably get it if i guess the top three names. The nineteen eighties. I'll probably get it. So what nigel mansell. Maybe in the next three days out is out is is that too early for allen processed to beyond because they're finished profits buses there. It's it's probably. It's probably a little too early for santa to be there. No it's not too early. He's on the podium their third. Okay wow and then who would be. I at this time nikki. Lauda go there. You go the once. I saw that i was like i can ask this question. I know these three names. I've seen these movies now. I don't know anything about this track to you. I know it's a it's it's one of the slower tracks. I believe in the in the circuit. It's it's it's got a so. It's going to be more similar to probably like a abu dhabi or singapore at the Not good comparison but nonetheless. I think you're not necessarily going to see. The you know. The top speeds that you see silverstone or spa but Other than that the last time they raised here. I was one years old joke every time. Great times remember the race. I assume there'll be a giant verstappen fan section. There are a lot of awesome looking forward to that. Finally leg of our triple header. The italian grand prix at monza. That was a crazy one last year. Peer guiseley first win of his career ended up on the podium with carlos signs and lance stroller that great shot of them on the podium up above the empty crowd and nobody was there. Kind of a bummer. That didn't have anybody celebrate with but some incredible shots. We got other notable dates on the back half of the schedule here as well. Green the united states grand prix at the circuit of the americas down in texas october. Twenty fourth like you said. We're getting a second grand prix here in the states next season. But the only one right now. laura's dad and brother went to the nascar grand prix at the circuit of the americas. Down there said it was awesome. I think chase elliott one in a rain.

"Think they have been rotating in all of the observed drivers so who will so marta garcia then is in the excuse me martic has in the second season and then we have Kaplan are caitlyn would abby pulling and garcia revest yes martin garcia came fourth in two thousand nineteen she has also won the faa carting academy trophy Well she didn't twenty fifteen which had been one for years prior by one charlotte clare and she is one of my favorites to watch or at least was in two thousand nineteen. I would give her a for stap in style of racing. Lots of passing aggressive moves very fun to watch. She came second in the ira and competition so very strong. Racer go she. She raced in the british F four series and took the prize for the most passes in the season with seventy two beautiful. that's great. They apparently called at the who zooms award over good sponsored by zoom. She also has a masters in journalism. Nice well there you go and career. After that a lot of drivers try and do that. What have the masters she should be issuing. Yeah and her racing hero. None other than robert cabeza off. Who's hasn't yes so we we like goes. Yeah let's see here. I didn't realize they were putting in caitlyn would so maybe you could look up Her w. series profile. Sure i'm talking about. Oh you have it there. Yeah if i don't have to profile. But i have on the wikipedia here She is a ozzy at twenty four years. Old has competed in the bathurst. Twelve a bunch of It's a grueling race yeah has Done a lot of different series. Actually australian formative forward for the for australia european. Gt four blankfein. Gt m silver cup She's she was in thirteenth. It'll be series In the high tech team in twenty nineteen Finished every race Thirteen point so decent showing Yeah and she's also a race instructor. It seems cool And i think she was the one that drove the w. series car at the goodwood festival. Onate yeah but the other. Let's see reserve driver. Who has filled in abbey pulling One of the youngest drivers on the field that eighteen years old was a british karting champion and has enlisted driver. Coaching services from none other than w series competitor. Alice powell oklahoma. She's racing against her teacher But that is the puma team. They are yellow just like rumors. Just like pufus. Let's move on to e. curie who is blue with a white accent while that's got another favorite name of mine It sounds she's sort of sounds like a fake version of a of a male f. One driver kim align And then abby ethan as well of course emma is finish case it wasn't obviously she's like kitty reichen and cova line and just bird like what went through. Some sort of fly machine came on the other side is an awesome driver Yeah i mean you. Would i would. I would expect nothing less from her performance. She qualified for w series in twenty nineteen but got injured in a crash in the first race and missed half the season right forgot about that but despite that still got fifth in the championship so she's she's one of the like she because she is much more experienced. I think she might be in her thirties as well. But she's been in touring car and other racing series for a long long time. Yes she fared well in formula ford across finland and sweden and was an audi factory driver until the global financial crisis which led to funding drying up. Obviously but had a daughter in two thousand thirteen and then a year later got a drive. In the scandinavian touring car championship has really torn it. Up and w series. There's also a great gift of her on the podium last season like shrugging off all the champagne spraying just so she could drink her champagne barrier. Exactly that's good but also very positive and likable. you know. unlike some other fins. We know one she's awesome. Yeah and abby even from the uk you may know her as the test driver on amazon's the grand tour. Yeah gt three class winner in the block. Pon endurance series and was Was one of the ones that initially dismissed w series for the you know the reasons we stated earlier But changed her tune. Once she saw the twenty nineteen season she enters as a rookie but is definitely one of the ones with more experience. Yeah yeah she's Pushing she's twenty nine as well so a lot of experience that is e curie they again are blue with white accent next up bunker racing the blau bunker what a great great name for a team bunker racing first of all the pride of liechtenstein fabu wall had whirlwind. And then says it's a brace sabre cook sabre sorry sabre cook. Of course american. Yeah sut again great names. Fabio involve end Came sixth in two thousand nineteen a former banker. He has steadily worked her way up through the ferrari. Challenge ladder Becoming the first woman to win a race for the ferrari mark. I'd say from memory. Wow that's up my my memories of two thousand nineteen. She's not flashy but is consistent which goes a long way in a series like this bs. She's from liechtenstein. Though races with a swiss license okay sabre cook from the united states. The lone american from colorado as it happens the first female winner of the super carts. Usa pro tour national championship. an ran some partial seasons in. Us formula four and f two thousand. As part of the road to indy ladder. She came twelfth two twenty. Nineteen that is bunker racing The black liveried team only a few left. Now it's right. Let's go with seyran syrian. That's vicky pariah pariah beria and period man my pronunciation. "One point seven But like it's a big gap They're going to have to try to hoover out of that car. I hope they do like it. Sucks to have that entire performance like blown away but yeah but what that does mean is that lewis. Hamilton moves into second place. And max verstappen the to fighting for the championship also moves up into ninth resulting in a net gain by lewis hamilton of two points. So red ball also wishes this didn't happen more Final bit of fallout here. You have a nice quote here. From from george russell. Danny say what you want about. The you know whether or not he was he was taken a little bit during the race. With the latifi stuff. His emotions after the race were muslim but genuine. 'em there was a great little interviewed him in the paddock right away. They sort of have them in that little press pen after the race and he actually got a little bit emotional. It's just that the idea of finally getting points after williams. I gotta pull quote. Here are probably wouldn't have shed a tear. If i want my first race to be honest. That's how much it means. It means more than i could put the words of the ride. We've been through these three years if you're fighting for something for three years and you finally get it. It was an incredible stint on our side of the guys. The second stint it was probably the best of my whole career. Keeping donnie ricardo behind keeping max Behind closing the gap by twenty seconds to the cars ahead it was exceptional. I pulled everything i had as i do every single race and finally came home with something and was in an earlier little bit of a press that he got emotional. I think it's on the f. one z. To china where they do the interview with drivers right after they. They've left the racer after the race is over so lovely moment firm. It is very funny. The tv's ahead of points again. I think that there's there's a heck right. We ended up falling backwards into appoint and russell didn't right. Yeah it's it's a funny one but yeah it's like it also. We probably won't get into this week as we have so much to talk about like the the the conversation about russell vodkas before this race where it stands now because i mean russell i guess how to hit a by qualifying a week and then took half the field and points but also bought us to have the fields job voluntary. So i don't know way mercedes win and hamilton way. Better results for a mercedes. Win is the red is not scoring. Any balls are hardly any points Russell is in the mercedes this weekend or right now because he is testing the twenty two tires on a mercedes. So make of that. What you will. But let's run down the stairs. He party man. Everyone's everyone's visits Lewis hamilton on top of the drivers championship. Currently as we head into the break having gotten album points with one hundred ninety. Five points to max for step one eight seven landau norris is in third with one hundred and thirteen voucher botas in fourth with one zero eight. Sergio perez has one hundred and four carlos. "It's true and i put a lot of information here. Maybe i just started with the race but Before the race starts that catalyst rears its head we get some rain in normally. This isn't a problem for a rainy weekend. But since it hasn't rained in a while and this is a tip for all the drivers out there if it hasn't rained in a while and it starts that's when the road is the trickiest because all of that greece and rubber comes to the sitting on the surface and it just is like ice. This is the quintessential a somebody who lived three hundred yards from a california highway. This if it rains overnight having not reigned in a while. That's usually what i get woken up by the saddened screeching brakes the following warning. Oh boy okay yeah. Everyone is starting on intermediate tyres for this race. These tires that are not quite wet but not. They're not dry tyres. Either the exception here is g-o-v nazi who dives into the pits. Just after the formation lap going to the grid because why not why not as in the back of the field anyway. So he's going to start from the pit lane but again everything out in the first. Turn danny take us through this start. I wanna watch. I wanna watch zony camera of this because and aspen had such a bad start. I think geomancy technically asked to wait for the last car to pass the pit exit line. Before he's allowed go. So by the time masterplan reached the scene of the of the carnage. It was already almost over to turn the corner of must have just been like detroit as everywhere. Anyway we get down to the first star in. Hamilton gets a good way to get away. Sodas for stopping. Batas has an absolute stinker. Basically almost all of the car on the greater has has a false star essentially and drops back immediately gobbled up by peres landau nahra spins around the outside of them. Basically entering turn one you have hamilton average. Stop at a paris on the outside with gaza holding them at sight of that. And they arrive fernando alonzo box side. They're trying to see what happens next. And then on the inside you dinars and batas and batas hits. The brakes locks up way before the apex of the tar. And we have we have the the last one of these are member was the grow john in spa one were grown. Hit the back of hamilton. You would really scary onboard from alonzo where they spun over the top. They all crashed right there. Slow left-hander at the right at the start of a grand prix very common one. But i hadn't seen a crash this far back in the grid going into a turn in a while we they've been really clean actually the past couple years one. I think it was it. Also spot where along catapulted over. Charlotte clare remember. That kissed the the halo. Yes you're right yes yes there was. Yeah there was that one too. Yeah germer who started that one. It's one of those is one of those ones you can tell. It's going to be a nasty one. Basically right away. So that's assets the backbone of nour's there now both skidding across the road. Hamilton turns the coroner manages to nas get hash bus basically landowners and sort of followed by batas crash into the side of her stopping than batas follows through and hit peres and poor. Pierre goslin writing his own business around the outside i think he notices the lockup by vodka contact with landau and he dives down further.

And that's we're almost at the end here Lap forty botas is told to invert the cars giving second-place to hamilton so that he can try to close down the clair's gap of nearly nine seconds in twelve laps and ten laps later. Hamilton has caught up and passes once again at cops. Leclair daij deep to stay ahead. But he doesn't turn in for the apex did but does go off track so hamilton squeezes by ya. I will say like the one difference between this move And what had happened earlier. Is that leclair clearly. Had so little left on those tires The cops was a much easier pass now for hamilton. Because all he had to do was take some kind of line of through. The coroner leclair couldn't negotiate any of them at speed at that point So he'd been was funny is like hamilton's conviction that he was not closing declare that persistent like every lap of his pursuit until basically it was on his ass It just goes to show how subjective the experience of driving these cars because he he was just like gouging time out of a claire and he was convinced that like man. This isn't gonna work is yeah but it does. He gets up there. And the last last bid that happens is that peres who's running. In tenth pits sacrificing. Appoint for himself to set fastest lap and steal from hamilton. So even though perez doesn't get he's outside of the top ten so he does not get a point for the fastest lap because he has it that means. Hamilton does not so just real Just it's it's is strategic because it's one point but it's also very petty and red bull so but the results for the british grand prix after all of that. What packed weekend hamilton. On top cutting the thirty two point deficit to per step in to just eight points. Charlotte clare comes home in second and voucher botas rounds out the podium landau norris fourth daniel ricardo finishing fifth. I think his best for the season. Carlos sainz comes home in sixth good recovery from his troubles in sprint race. Fernando alonzo in seventh had a great weekend slant stroll in eighth esteban. Okon in ninth and yuki sonoda getting the last point in tenth behind them ghastly russell in twelve giovanni latifi reichen in fifteenth peres finished sixteenth. The move got maslin schumacher. And then the two d-fs of federal and for step in for staff in his race fans dot net points out the first driver to score points without completing a lap in a grand prix points being from the sprint race. So that's britain of course as you mentioned rob. Hamilton has gotten worse than comments about his racing over this including a rash of racist messages online ahead of this weekend the hamilton commission which is a body that lewis hamilton set up to examine diversity in motor. Sport released a report that they've been working on for ten months. In short. the report. Highlights the drastic disparities in the sport. It makes a lot of suggestions to f one and motorsport in general and considering this reaction is sorely needed we did see widespread condemnation of this racist abuse from f one the teams and the faa. Which i will say is the bare minimum but is perhaps something we would not have seen even a few years ago. I think about around The george floyd incident. I think about well buxton being surprised that hamilton suggested that there was racism in the paddock. That seems pretty hard to brush aside now so hopefully things like hamilton commission. Keep this pressure up and hopefully f. one continues to take step steps in the in the right direction. They did announce some baby steps on the heels of this commission report announcing a scholarship and an internship plans from autosport ten formula. One engineering scholarships will be made available for students from.

"Thus god's he just put them in the mountain put them in the wall so buyers that was tragic. Oh my god. But with the hamilton down there and botas both of them. Out of the points mercedeses fifty five race run of consecutive points. Finishes comes to an end fourth. The fourth right. Yeah fourth-best nf when history tied with ferrari who also hold the record with eighty one in a row. That's only ten twenty. Fourteen toto cava happy pet that he was so mad. And you see a video of him lodging off. Oh yeah yeah ripping headphones off. Yeah my god. I love angry. Town had been the head to have seen the magic button toggle on like they like. They knew what had happened. They like somebody saw the display. What he just done. Remember the can't radio the guys you know at the start. You also can't do coaching anyway. So i'm not sure like yeah. Maybe they told him if there were a lap under his belt and he done that. I don't know if that if that falls under the coaching role but fast. Yeah they just had to watch as he definitely would have had time. It was on the shift so they would've would've had like the heartbeat to realize like. Oh shit he's gonna easy doesn't break he doesn't know it. He's got the magic. It's like something out of like kids sports movie. You know where you break it down into something really simple to understand so the complex. He's like oh no. The magic is on the magic's not meant to be awed the michael jordan secret sauce and space jam Kelly it's also the now this point horner and wealth are dislike reality stars Just like shaving each other Post race game but like race by race This time he had horner Talking about like. I think you know tono bashes his team in public too much. It's not god quietly. Strangle your drivers behind passive aggressively. Bury them relations finally getting a number two who by also kind of by accident because people were saying like rebel. The finally cracked a number two driver. It's like this. This happened to them. He became available like they made the not particularly difficult decision of getting one of the best veterans who is an underdog his entire career or over a kid who never never clicked where you what the rebel pressure cooker. Couldn't like you know. break him. Like an egg. Yeah yeah but at the same time. Like i i would say like there are circuit courses coming up. I'm sure like mercedes is eager to get to those but like panic time maybe rob mercedes have scored just seven points in the last two races. Their worst run since hamilton signed for them but who but just to finish off here. Nicholas latifi in sixteenth to address on seventeenth Max for stepping in eighteenth setting the fastest lap so he doesn't get a point for that but no one in the top. Ten does either And then lance stroll and esteban con Latifi also received a ten second. Stop go penalty for not pitting under the for staff and red out. Sad sad. sad sats asked. Yes team told him to stay out but and then immediately backtracked but by then it was too late but they were telling him to stay. They thought stay out as in as in the. Don't pass go through the pit lane but don't stop at the box right and he was like what the fuck is like. Yeah so that was converted to a thirty second time penalty but Yeah and that. That was baku. Baku wow what a fun. Time the last street circuit of the no. We've jetta because news news news. She begins do it. Singapore's out unfortunately although not all that surprising singapore grand prix for the second year in a row. Well not happen. This is of course due to the tightened restrictions over covid nineteen in singapore. It is a very densely populated area. The track is slapped buying in the middle the city so unsurprisingly. They weren't willing to risk probably a lot of people in close proximity in the middle of the city for that. So it is The i won't belabor as bush does bunch of quotes. They're basically just saying that but at the faa are looking to replace it with something. Sounds like we were all in agreement before this podcast. They replace it with baku here more back. Who just like run it like. it's it's. It's moving up the ladder of like racing venues. And i think this year. It's like the chaos element is too powerful. It's it's something the something there is like. There's like a. there's the ancient beast buried. Underneath the sewer grate came up. It takes dot com. The cosmic horror was unleashed. We just couldn't see it with our with our puny human is rob. Ross brian of formula one management also feels good about baku. Yes so he hit. He'd said like he's really hardened by the reaction to the race he said i've encouraged a number of commentators. Say we need another ten laps. The actually we saw in the final two laps of the azerbaijan grand prix. Because it acts as a prequel to sprint qualifying. It's been called. We'll be a little longer on seventeen twenty laps but it could well feature the same type of thrilling racing as the drivers won't have to worry about saving tires Yeah no i mean mind you a two laps sprint very different from even twenty laps but this notion of just drive the wheels off the thing does sound cool has l. We just need to make sure those we'll stay on the ad f- to weekend was very good but the spread races were definitely more entertaining than the the feature race. I think anyway. They were both super solid and they vary it up because some races where people are held for other because it doesn't matter i've got my position in the next one. It's it was. It was a lot of fun. You should check those add even if you don't wanna watch a full race the f. One youtube channel has highlights of all races. Go check him up and we get our first trial of the sprint races. Come july eighteenth in silverstone is right yes. That is the first one right frank. I one we have a lot of races in there. And then though it's it's we're one week often and it's tripleheader yeah. I think that's right. Canada would have been next week but thought wisconsin love is era s right Let's driver standings here after. Baku max verstappen is on top of one. Hundred and five points lewis. Hamilton could have jumped him in a big way but but a magic. He's in second with one hundred and one. Sergio perez with his win has sixty nine points in third place followed by atlanta. Norris was sixty six charlotte clare and fifth with fifty two valter. Toss in sixth with forty seven carla signs close behind him in seventh place with forty. Two points that is. Oh it's delicious. Round six of twenty-three peer ghastly is in eighth with thirty one. Points battle.

Means we have a lot of track walks that have been going up for the past couple of months and there's way more to come back villa. Vegas tripleheader is coming up next. So we're going to have although two of those are spielberg. Maybe there's some over right there but yes we have to. We have three tiers. I'm john didn't know the paddock. Pass people who are in the five dollar range. They got all access to the bonus podcast. We've done over the past. How many years three four years like at this stage. There's you know who knows. Fifty hours probably worth of podcasts on old on racing movies and stuff like that at going to record our new one afternoon drive justify which is quite a lot of homework for people to consume before the podcasts. We've decided to go a bit shorter for this month's so we're going to watch the animated short lamar fifty nine hundred fifty five which is about fifteen minutes long and beautifully shosh. Beautifully animated rather and so. We'll be talking about the dash on the podcast this week. On the patron exclusive podcasts. This month and Yeah drugs come into media. Pass this month as well. As of course me opening packs of cards because any good youtuber. I know how. Skinner boxes work at a massive shadow to all of our awesome titles sponsors. Jason kelly will rump. Whom berta roca demon reagan samji conor mcmanus. Jason chadwick abdullah donny. Bailey i jack ben greg. Salt photo fudo. High's bpm who've gone rush. Pops plu mitten response the week. Pretty good druce. Jewish tracy syntax and is jack. I know jack is like a. It's like a nickname for other j. J. jon or jason and stuff like that John for john yeah. Let's go with john. john. John mara half. Let's say thank you for joining this month. Well yes let's. Let's jump right in to baku fellas because there's a lot to get to here buck. You started biting hard and qualifying. Oh turn fifteen took out. Stroll and juvenile z in q one both causing red flags the red flag for stroll actually enabled wrestles mechanics finished repairing his car. After a problem that he had yeah which was pretty cool. The monkey paul work in there right. The red flag for giovanni though led to a three place grid penalty for norris because he didn't enter the pits when the red flag was one of those. Like when you're rolling up to a traffic light and the light turns yellow right at the wrong time. Like should i got it. Should i slam on the brakes. It was one of those situations chose to not enter. The piss even asked his team like. But here's the thing right not happens in in your heart of hearts you know whether or not you're meant to slow down or an and norris i think caught. I think he was like you know what. I'm going to finish this because just in case i want to get a time in a but i'll ask my pit lay if it's the right time and then you know my reply where people are like. Oh it was a real. It was real judgment call is real close there on. It's like that he could have dumped all the speed and safely entered the pets. Oh it's a tough entry. It's like it's not that tough. Like i could have done that and so weird labs. I wonder if like was he distracted. He didn't fully know exactly where he was on the straight and he thought he was closer but like if you look on re look at it on replay. It's like it's a clear mistake and there's no it's kind of baffling as to why he would be asking is up at lynn. Unless he's trying to get lab. Yeah so normally. It is apparently a five place grid penalty for this. But i guess the stewards were a little lenient because they only gave him three place penalty. Sort of a half a half measure. A talking weird. Yeah yeah he also got some penalty points on his licence bringing him. I think he has. The most does ace. Yeah eight hundred. Eighteen is a. I think i was. Twelve okay yeah you get. You accrue twelve points in a twelve month calendar year and you have to sit out a race so i wonder what his last one was because of course it's not by season it's why colin. So yeah. I don't know when those are going to drop off in the back near but acute so that was all in key one. It turned fifteen turn four took out two more cars ricardo in q two and soon oda in q. Three signs also had to bail off on an escape road to avoid sunanda on the last one and that that crash also meant that nobody got to do a second run in q. Three so everybody went out once and that was kind of your lap. Meaning charlotte clare gets his second pole position in a row crazy lewis hamilton qualified right next to him in second place. Then we've got max verstappen third pierre ghastly in fourth and fifth sergio perez and six. Yuki sonoda doing well to get it in seventh fernando alonzo in eighth landau norris ninth again after his three place grid penalty and then voucher botas in tenth behind them. Sorry go ahead. We should mention the series. Like qualifying is a little bit deceptive there because like he like because of the truncated q three He never really.

fernando alonzo sergio perez tenth twelve points Twelve Yuki sonoda Fifty hours giovanni Jason kelly max verstappen six fourth fifth eight hundred jason ninth eighth two John seventh
