"We thank CDW and HPE for their support. This week in Google, we have what this has been such a great philosophical conversation. We haven't really covered perfect kind of twig discussion. Any of the news, yeah. Weirdly, has hit the brakes apparently, according to wired on hardware, portal, AR glasses, other hardware, to consumer hardware, especially. Portal portal is going to stay for business. I wonder, you know. I mean, Microsoft's done the same thing with hollow lens. It's become an enterprise product, perhaps a product. Microsoft's HoloLens, though, the guy who led it left. And they're not sure. And they split up the divisions into two different divisions. You're right. The army's not happy. Yeah, so we don't know how HoloLens is going to go. If there's a commonality, it's that maybe the metaverse is in all that, right? And I can't tell, you know, like I feel like forever, I've always been on the front end of being excited about different tech things. So like cloud computing, IoT, and I'd be like telling people why this is a big deal and explaining it. I don't feel that way about the metaverse, but I still feel like everybody's pushed in the metaverse on us. And I truly don't get it. So I don't know if I'm behind. Or there's just not a compelling anything. NFTs, I think, because I think I'll try this theory out. And sorry, it's another Gutenberg moment. But it took time for technology to become boring and then what people did with it became interesting. And I think there's this hunger by Silicon Valley by the technologists. No, we got to make it more interesting again. We got to make it more interesting. And I don't think that's what's going to be interesting. I think what's going to be interesting is cervantes making the modern novel and maintained the essay and the guy in Strasbourg the newspaper. And what do people invent with this stuff? But remember, these are corporations driven by shareholders who want to see growth, and so from their point of view, they're not thinking, oh, let's see how technology is. I'm talking past them. Way past. Oh, I agree, because they're only job is what's the next big thing and how can we make sure we're there? And they, of course, are faced with the innovators dilemmas, historically hard for incumbents to get the next big thing. Apple 52% of its revenue comes from the iPhone, how do you find something better than that? How do you meet? I don't care. No, no, I'm saying that, but that's why the tech is doing what it's doing. Is they're not thinking about some broader cultural. They're going to say, where's our mantegna? But Jack's trying to Jack's trying to go back and recapture something that was before in terms of the ability. And that ain't going to happen either. Right? I don't know. I don't know. And then as far as you will, and not the end, as far as you go, Stacey, I agree with you. This is always, this is the tech reporter's dilemma, is what I'm seeing really all that or is it just more BS? When Charlie rose when Jeff Bezos ten years ago opens the door and says, see, Amazon's going to be doing drones and Charlie rose goes, wow, that's amazing. At the time, we all mocked him. We all said, oh, Charlie. You fell for it. And yet, this week, Amazon is starting drone deliveries. And a bunch more cities. It took him a longer time than they thought it would. It's been a little while. Are we still skeptical about it though? Or are we now saying, well, maybe they were right. Maybe Charlie wasn't so wrong. Drone delivery has a place. I felt like we could see that. I don't know. A lot of us made fun of Charlie rose. Jeff pulled the wool over your eyes. And it may be actually that he did. Because that was a long time ago. It was sold as something mainstream. It's just like Elon saying next year. But what mistakes has said is, yeah, there is a place for drawn delivery, but I didn't like how it seems like if I go to order a pair of sneakers or new tripod that I ordered today, I should be able to get this in the same day if I hit deliver by drone. That's not possible everywhere the song is certain areas and it's not for everything. A drone can't carry everything you order. Well, it's in loch.

"I recently came across a clip from a 1993 episode of the Charlie rose talk show, a round table discussion about the efficacy of the controversial aids drug AZT. Doctor Ron was a guest along with the legendary aids activist and playwright Larry Kramer. True to form, Larry showed up spoiling for a fight and laced into doctor Ron with a range of accusations. Doctor Ron didn't rise to the bait. He patiently explained the science and never lost his cool. He was the thoughtful engaging and warm family physician I've always known. Doctor Ron remains in private practice in New York City. Among his patients are many men who are long-term survivors of HIV aids. "Andrew, we are back. And as I mentioned, pre break, you have a one word question. That gets people to tell us not just what they do, but why they do it. Give us this one word question. It's because and it seems so small that you might just miss it, it doesn't seem like a question. But what I discovered was a lot of times people would just ramble either with the answers that they give me or I might ramble with the question and it's really hard to stay focused. And I said, how did the experts do it? And I remember there was this interviewer Charlie rose, he was on Bloomberg and PBS interview and people like Bill Gates Warren Buffett. And I know that when I was growing up, they used to make fun of him because he would ramble. In fact, there was a Saturday Night Live sketch about how he could not just ask a simple question..

"Paid for a while and robin would come back to the clubs. After became really famous some guys would refuse to go onstage. Kanye left the room. Notable comics richard lewis. Robert wool accused late. Robin williams is stealing jokes. Due to his sponge like brain some comics hated him for it. Says louis but i was one of them. David brenner clearly. Confronted personally threatened with him with bodily harm. If you heard williams another one of his jokes there have been numerous comics. Have defended williams. Like whoopi goldberg. She spoke out basically said if he did it. You know it was not intentional. It was dude that sponge-like brain of his again do i think he did it. I don't know his main accuser. I will say stephen pearl hoof hacky eighties comic with a really terrible jokes like i can't. I can't make it through a five minute on youtube. Watching him makes me. Hey stand up comedy He's he he. Seems like a poor copy. Copy of robin a poor clone clone of rob williams all deployment energy none of the wit. So i'm gonna say his accusations or maybe a little hollow. I didn't see any josie. So i don't know what robin was dealing stealing the steel david brenner jokes. I mean maybe there's enough smoke that you know. Bet there's some fire but he lives in punch lines. Was it intentional. I dunno. I watch youtube video of jay moore accusing robin of stealing his christopher. Walk impression. i don't buy that example. Jaded story about walking wanna tail so williams but the stories were different Punchline similar but different and jaded his standup williams just talking about on. Charlie rose about stuff not trying to do stand up and the flow of conversation led to a walk impression and he did talk about tales. "Or ideologies so in the same way that stalin set themselves up as a super authority. So did charlie rose at cbs. Charlie with charlie rose. It was truth if someone else said he did. Something wrong wasn't true because he was a neidl. He was unquestioned and unquestionable and it was only just like when the when there were enough enough of a critical mass of people to overcome that idolatry in the ancient world or in in hopefully in monotheistic religions that then those titles can be toppled and and that's it otherwise idolatry in this granting of super authorities superpower is unfortunately all over the place right in our political system on campuses where people just told whatever the guiding theory is. And that's what they're supposed to believe it's on the far right and on the far left right. And it's a tragedy into the bible still hasn't succeeded in that sense of overcoming and giving us the tools to overcome over companies lies about our well. I still think that just to just to give you a little bit of pushback. I still think these. I think these examples of tyrannical rulers that you are drawing from our history of the world is is fairly recent when you take into account the history of human evolution. I mean almost. All of our great thinkers throughout the various mediums of science agree Based on the evidence provided to us today that That are homo sapiens species when i say homeless space homo sapiens species. I'm talking about us. The modern human being That the that we broke off from our neanderthal ancestors roughly a hundred thousand years ago and yet we have the bible that claims the fall of adam happened four thousand b c so roughly six thousand years ago. I mean this is incredibly misleading. To the the bible was written choose left egypt sir. Twelve fifty before the combinator. So that was an and the judaism is is that the exodus is if you will three thousand two hundred shares old. It's gone on say that again because in two hundred years old personally i think the first eleven chapters the bible or are allegorical. And i think i really think that. That's what the bible says. And i go into that detail. I don't think that the that we were ever expected. And if you look at if you look for example hebrew scholars or someone. We think that the bible is the world is fifty eight hundred twenty two years old but there are also plenty plenty of folks who thought they. The earth is much older. I mean rabbi slack avocado thought. The world is about fifteen point. He computer was fifteen point. Three billion years old. Yeah yeah marini but bringing said resent billions if we bring it closer to home and what i mean by that. I'm just talking about homo sapiens. Yes because homo. Sapiens is just one species of the humanoid family right. There's right i mean you got the and with she got denisovans. You've got home erectus. You've got all kinds of other human species that so far as we know right now and again. I'm not drawing stuff from the sky. These are things that have been corroborated by peer reviewed scientists all across all all fears of science all the great thinkers of today agree for the most part that homo sapiens we thinking creatures k the ones that have sort of broken off from the andrew fall ancestors that the homo sapiens our rougher hundred thousand years old one hundred thousand years old and so when you start modern may modern mattis dust years old. It's a long time well at modern exactly so me. i'll give. I'll give fifty. But i mean when when when when people out there today with with advance instruments and technology that can carbon date and can do all these things and measure the things with with with a cute accuracy. You know so much so that nobody in in in their in their rational mind can refute. Its profundity you could because there's just over right. So i guess i guess world is a lot older than fifty eight hundred years all right and so not to you know not to dwell on this point of the golden rule and. When did it arrive and things like that. You're saying that the golden rule came with the advent of the bible. I'm saying i'm not so sure about that. I mean because even if you're saying that the bible is twenty thousand years thirty thousand years old which again. That's that's gonna be a tough claim to make because all of your theologians out there and biblical scholars and christian apologists agree That the fall of adam was Roughly four thousand. Abc's so four thousand abc plus two thousand twenty us. Modern humans are only Roughly thousand years Six thousand years old. I mean again if you if you just flip open. The king. James version of the bible in the title page There in the and in the beginning it has a chronology of the major events in the bible so it starts with the fall of adam. Four thousand four thousand bc it has flooded the the the flood it has scrapped the scattering of israel. All those major events is chronicled in there and it says that the fall of adam so the reason why pointing at the fall of adam. Because that's kind of win. That's the beginning of the human family that according to the bible the bible story six thousand years ago was the beginning of the human family k the human family that god created which is absolutely ridiculous because we know now through modern technology and modern science and the data that's been collected over the last few years You know few hundred years that humans an actually are homo. Sapiens species. The ones that broke off from neanderthal ancestors. We're only one hundred thousand. One hundred thousand years old k and again the the human the human species some came is is is two million two point three million years also. I'm not even talking about the age of the world here the age of the universe. I'm bringing it closer to home. And i'm just talking about the human family. Okay again. humans so other species like neanderthals down sevens homo erectus. Homo florian says all these other species of humans that we've now identified and chronic cold and have proven with with unsubstantial with with substantial evidence. They've been around for a long time and our modern species the human the homeless sapien. As we know today the modern man like you were saying earlier. We've been around for hundred thousand years but yet the bible claims that's that humans have only been around for six thousand years so again. That's what i'm talking about lever. These was a great scholar. Lived well before carbon fourteen day carbon dating and he thought he'd rather yitzhak of i thought that the world was fifteen point. Three billion years old at that they're sent. The earth is very very much older and this is an inquiry and have the struggle that we did and scott. Just so you know your your connections kind of choppy. But i think we gather pretty much the gist of what you're saying but What i what i wanted to say. It's just kind of wrap up on this particular subject and then we'll go onto another one that i need to get out before out of tire so in conclusion for this particular part of our conversation you are making the claim that the old testament for the most part is an allegory. We should it be taken.

"Going to launch dot co slash vanda jam in our first story. Obviously bezos has launched himself successfully and three others into space on blue origin new shepard. It just happened this morning. some background. This is the new shepherd. Sixteenth launch overall. The four crew members included bezos. His brother mark and mary wallace. Who goes by wally funk. If you don't know who she is. She is an eighty two year old former pilot. Who in the sixties passed the rigorous nasa astronaut criteria but was denied the chance to go to space when the mercury thirteen program was disbanded. Six years later she is now the oldest person ever fly to space and the sixty six women in space in total congratulations to wally funk and a trust fund kid named oliver demean. Who is eighteen years old from the netherlands. He is the youngest person. Ever go to space. So this one youngest and the oldest is kind of neat. Oliver took the space of the previous. Twenty eight million dollar auction sale. Because that rich person i guess had a scheduling conflict income on this one. So it's going to go on a further one Rich people problems as a combination. Not only are they individually the youngest and oldest but obviously In a combination it would be the largest distance between the youngest and oldest person to manifest. So how would that will change. You will have a great grandmother or grandfather and great granddaughter grandson. At some point you can if this keeps up jeff bezos. He's had dreams of going to space for decades He even spoke about in june two thousand in this interview with charlie rose and he has hair on this clip. I'll talk to you on the other side of the sixty second clip if you weren't the ceo of amazon dot com today. Where would you like to do or the well. So if i could do anything and it turns out. This is a very hard technical problem. So i i don't actually hold great hopes but if i could do anything i would like to go. Help explore space. Tell me more. I mean what would you do. How would you go about it if you weren't doing this. Well i you know. The picture i have is that i would get in a rocket ship. Go up into space and like you know. Go check out a few things. This this is why. I mentioned the beginning. This is a very technical. Put your mind to it. You could probably figure out a way that we could do this well. It's very hard. It's director your stockholders might not a very hard. It's really i mean so you know who knows what twenty years from. Now if there's some significant changes in the technology maybe such things will get easier. But we haven't made significant improvements in space transportation systems really since the apollo program. All right they haven't folks And charlie rose accurate pointing out like shareholders might have a problem with this and of course he gave up the ceo slot and just a week or two later wound up going to space. He founded blue origin in two thousand and basically nailed everything he said Twenty years from now maybe things will get easier and of course. That is exactly what happened. And if you're watching on youtube checkout seventy five and we have a youtube channel if he wasn't just on the podcast or we we actually have video. Podcast on itunes. You can get video Although we don't have that sink on spotify yet something we're gonna work with the spotify team. I know with joe rogan. Listen or watch. We need to get in on that As well and sinker podcasts on spotify. But you can watch the video on itunes right now and Here's a clip The four-person team you know going into the capsule very exciting. A few minutes later after take off the rocket reads reaches a top speed of over two thousand two hundred miles per hour. I think that's four times what you would experience on an airplane yet. Typically go five hundred or six hundred miles per hour and the maximum height Was over three hundred fifty one thousand feet more than sixty five miles above earth this past the karman line which is sixty two miles above earth which is one group of individuals or maybe the majority group of individuals definition of reaching space. The rocket and capsule separated at about two hundred fifty thousand feet for the descent. So the rocket landed i Fun fact out of the sixteen new shepherd rides. Booster rocket has landed safely fifteen times. Obviously this was spacex. Big innovation being able to make the rockets reusable really His A a great way to make space travel more affordable as illinois points. Out like imagine you took a seven forty seven or some you know airplane across the atlantic and then when you got the other side you throw it away it would make the tickets pretty expensive. Wouldn't it Now here capsule land safely with all the passengers and the party starts pesos. High-fiving hugging loved ones popping champagne. All of that obviously in comparison to what happened last week when virgin lactic spaceship to launch. Richard branson's flight reached an altitude of two hundred eighty two thousand feet or fifty three miles above the earth. And so branson's a rocket Spaceship to surpass nasr's designation the earth's boundary fifty miles but fell short of the karman line which is sixty two miles who cares And branson said after landed the fight last week. I've said this many times. It really wasn't a race which delighted that everything went so fantastic. We well we wish the absolute best and the people who are going up with him during the fight so that's just completely ridiculous. It obviously was raised for the two of them. They're both gonna be transporting passengers. That is the business model. I think of both companies because neither company competes with spacex and their delivery rockets which are just not even comparable branson Tweeted congratulations and was classy. After blue origin flatland. Today well done very impressive. Best to the crew from being the team at virgin galactic of course Yulon sent many people up to the international space station. Which is really you know. Orbital space is really what it's about and what's gonna be. Really interesting is Spacex is going to be putting four passengers in orbit not for three or four minutes but for three days in the fall and so once again. These things are not comparable one as low orbit. You know like Fund simple you know dip into space. Still an extraordinary accomplishment. The other one is like being true astronaut. And you know. I'm thinking spacex will be sending people for trips around the moon shortly. I think he launched talked about that. Publicly whole bunch. During the three day journey. The ship will orbit earth every ninety minutes along a customized flightpaths so I don't know what that it's gonna cost compared.

More Former Aides Accuse New York Governor Cuomo Of Sexual Harassment

"The pandemic, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo transformed into a fully fledged TV star. Let's remember some basic context and fax society functions. Everything works. There's going to be food in the grocery stores. Propelled into the firmament by his daily Corona virus, free things that reassured an anxious, leaderless public hears Ellen de generous and Trevor. Noah. You call yourself a Cuomo sexual and I e. I agree with you. I feel like I'm a homosexual to it genuinely has been very inspiring and refreshing to see. A leader Like Cuomo, new fans declared their adoration in Tic tac videos, Means and song, the Great Randy Rainbow Stranded in my bedroom. Then there he give you an update as to where we are today. Mature me treatment of the governor, of course, extended to many news networks like CNN, where Chris Cuomo asked the tough questions Now you know, I've seen you referred to a little bit recently as the love governed. I'm wondering if that's bleeding into your demeanor. It all making you a little soft on the president. Love girl. I've always I've always been a soft guy. I am the love government. Cool, dude and loose mood. You know that. But in the past few weeks, Cuomo's TV persona has faltered. Report from the state attorney general and a court order found that the official count of deaths of nursing home residents due to the virus was nearly doubled The figure first reported by the Cuomo administration. Plus, as I write this three women have accused the governor of sexual harassment, some in awkward, geeky detail, including two former aides. Alex Preen Stuff writer. The New Republic recently wrote the article. The Andrew Cuomo Show has lost the plot. Welcome back to the show. Thank you so much. I'm glad to be here. You know, two people who have closely read about the governor in the newspapers over the years as opposed to TV. This version of Cuomo, this bully in cynical operator isn't Knew How have the media changed the message? If you are a long time consumer of mainly print news about state politics, you had untiring chronology of Cuomo scandals even if you forgot some of the details. That didn't necessarily get a lot of play on TV news. Keeping up with Cuomo news over the last decade, has also required being familiar with reporters from The Albany Times Union or or newspapers and Rochester. You know these places where the Albany bureau is still really important and a big part of their beat. And a lot of that news, the complexity of it and specifically, the way it fit. A pattern of behavior with Cuomo was usually too difficult to get across, and especially in like a short television segment. I know a lot about this because I actually listened to the local radio station that produces the show. That's how come I know about the Moreland Commission. But you said this story never made it to prime time because it's too complicated. Absolutely, Yeah. All of the past. Few governors have gotten in trouble. Cuomo was running as the guy is going to come clean it up. And so he sets up a commission called Moreland Commission. He says they have the authority to investigate corruption and all of its forms here in Albany and they will be independent. I will not meddle. I will not interfere. He's shuts them down less than a year later because they start going after people too connected to him essentially and people who worked on the commission. They went to The New York Times, and they said Cuomo was meddling. He stopped us and we were getting too close to his allies, so that stuff was out there. But when the story made it toe TV news, it was stripped of the level of detail necessary to understand what had happened and why I like in this interview with Charlie rose months after it came out that Cuomo's office Had hobbled the aforementioned Moreland Commission governor Andrew Cuomo is reestablishing a family dynasty in New York politics, though he's had to get used to criticism. Of his leadership style. You micromanage. They say that delegate more right and you're not transparent. They say then. And they say you don't suffer fools and you know, Yeah. And you're not You push too hard. Yeah. You micromanage? Yes. All of that. You plead guilty or not guilty. You can't have one without the other. I plead guilty like not only was was Rose asking and easily Dodge question. He was almost ventriloquism. The answer's four Andrew Cuomo, right. It's like the old job interview joke. What's your biggest flaw? You know, I'm too hard on myself. You take issue with the defenders of Cuomo who say that Hey, His most important audience. New Yorkers always have known about the governor's bullying quality. That sharp operator with the even sharper elbows and all of that. And they like it third, this idea that he has cruise to reelection twice. They must know who this guy is and support him. And that's why I draw that distinction between corn on the TV character and new favorite Cuomo's, Because if we have listened to a few clips of him on television He's not berating anyone. He's joking around with his brother. He's performing empathy for victims of Covert 19 or Hurricane Sandy. Is Daddy complete with the dad each exactly. He's New York's dad now. It seems that Cuomo has been able to keep his TV persona and his newspapers persona separate. Why are they colliding? Now? For a few reasons, one important one is that people Do not want to go on the record attacking Andrew Cuomo because of the power he holds in the state, especially elected Democrats. What happened this time is that Ron Kim and Assembly member Received a bullying call from Andrew Cuomo for speaking to the New York Post about the nursing home situation. Kim had been at a briefing where a top Cuomo aide said Yeah, This looks bad that we reported the wrong number of people who had died in nursing homes. But you have to understand, like we need didn't want it to become a story basically, like they were like Trump Trump DOJ is gonna make a thing of it Trumps could make a thing about that's why we covered it up. So anyway, Ron Kim went to the post and gave it on the record quote to the post about that meeting. That was the subject of the call where Cuomo allegedly sat. According to Kim, I'll destroy you. In normal Albany affairs. What happens next is either Kim shuts up. Kim goes on background to The New York Post again because Cuomo as in other cases, finds an irregularity in Kim's background. And implies that that could be used against him. And what he would end up doing is at a press conference Bring up Ah, years old story about how Kim had flip flopped on Is Bill about nail salons, and he would outright say Kim was crooked right after Cuomo does that press conference. There's a story on CNN about how Cuomo had made this phone call to Kim the day before, and that's not the kind of thing that legislators and Albany usually do when they get Implicitly or explicitly threatened by Cuomo. They don't call CNN and go on the record and say the governor threatened me. I think that Cuomo got away with it for so long because no one wanted to put their name. To descriptions of his behavior. But Kim, he knows well, I have a story. Now I have a compelling narrative in which I'm the hero in the governor's The villain and TV likes stories like that. And he ends up on the view. Tell us what happened after he called you or when he called you? Yeah, it was last Thursday night. I was about to bait my three kids when I received the call from the governor. He spent 10 minutes threatening my career and ordering me to issue a statement. They will be used to cover for the states that you wrote quote. If a politician acts as if he believes his voters experience politics is a television show, the best way to harm him is to make yourself a compelling character.

"To coast to coast, Dr Cyril Wecht with us, and we're going to be talking about his work on RFK, Robert F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Elvis Presley. But, sir, we've got your partner Charles Wadsworth Junior on the phone. Who co wrote the book with You Who killed JonBenet Ramsey. And let's talk about that right now, Charlie. Welcome my friends. Have you been Terrific Georgia been listening in. How are you doing? And hello to Cyril? Charlie. Hello. So long time, my friend that hooker Well, I'm well and I hope you are too. Cheryl When When you two wrote this book I was doing the local show in ST Louis called the Nighthawk and Charlie was my guest. He was at the ST Louis Post Dispatch at the time. And he was my guest, and he spent hours on the program raving about your work as well. And the Charlie. How did how did that teamwork begin? Between you and Cyril on this case? Well are we had a mutual publisher from works we had done before, and she asked me if I would be willing to co author another book. I had done a few co authors books to be in the beginning. And I said I'd consider it. But you know what? What was the case and she is well, it's It's a case involving a, uh, a fabulous forensic pathologist from Pittsburgh. Of the corner and Pittsburgh and I said, Well, what? What's the case? Is that a local Pittsburg case or what? She said? No, it's it's this case from Colorado. This JonBenet Ramsey case. And I said So. You're asking me if if I'd like to work with world renowned forensic pass, I was just on the number one murder mystery in the world right now. Yeah, I think I'd be interested in that. And so then Cyril and I got together and spend a few days at the beginning, getting to know each other and working together on the on the case and and it took off from there, it was, was a terrific experience. I had a chance to see the outside of the JonBenet Ramsey house in Boulder, Colorado. I go there every month, the tapes from television programs. And just just looking at it from the outside you too. It was just you could feel the emotion just by looking at the house that tragic day on Christmas of 1996. Was was horrible. And still, it's still the case is open, walked the grounds at great length. I did not get inside the house, but I did walk the grounds. It was empty at the time, and so I was able to look in the windows and get a get a good feeling for the layout of the House and Go back to the to the window basement window that that we believe probably was. The access was said to be access to the to the house. All all of those Kind of bits of evidence that piled up during that investigation. Cyril, It's unbelievable. The little girl would be about 30 years old right now. Yes, the great tragedy. I want to say it was a wonderful experience Working with Charlie Rose were. He's an excellent journalist and a true gentleman, and we got along fabulously and a very private the book to Charlie and I wrote Who killed JonBenet Ramsey and revised edition, which has a complete autopsy report and a judicial decision on an important matter. This case remains as you say, unsolved. And that's because it was never properly handled from the beginning is a charity interrogating immediately separately, the father and the mother, which you should have been done that was never done. It was. The investigation was handled by cops there in Boulder. I think they had one other homicide that year and in one homicide the year before no experience, they did not call in the FBI Colorado Bureau of Investigation. Then you have a district attorney, Alex Hunter, who should have been a criminal defense attorney. He had a plea bargain rate of about 98 to 99%. He just another suggestion that he wasn't intelligent or that he was an evil man. He just wasn't interested in pursuing and prosecuting cases, and that is how it happened. The service. Absurd case as Charlie and I point out that you go along with a foreign interloper. There is no are outside intruder. I should say. There is no outside intruder, he said. Story The mother is since Dad the father is still alive. The brothers still out there, He sued the CBS for what the and apparently they settled out of court for something on that. And we probably will never find out what happened. We there was there was a drifter Charlie was there not who claimed he might have been involved in that? Well. There was a very odd fellow.

CBS News announces anchor changes at "CBS This Morning," "CBS Evening News"

"Morning. There is a shakeup underway at CBS news this morning. The network announced major changes to its flagship shows this Gayle king on CBS this morning. We are announcing some major changes today moving forward working to get even better at what we do. Those major changes come amid ratings concerns for CBS this morning and also for the CBS evening news. And also after a series of harassment revelations rocked this network in recent years joining us now with more NPR media correspondent David Folkenflik morning. David. Hey, do to what is happening CBS. And why why is it happening now? So let's first talk about what's happening. You're going to see Nora O'Donnell, leave CBS this morning. It's that's their their morning news show, and she's going to become the anchor of CBS evening news. You know, the newscast once host by Dan rather on kites storage show. She's replacing Jeff glor- who's been there less. Than eighteen months. You're going to see a little bit of rotating chairs happening on the morning show. She is doing that John Dickerson's going to leave the morning show and the coin correspondent for a sixty minutes. And you're going to see the remaining this show built around. Gayle king who's been there who's really a sword in recent years, but particularly even in the last year landing a bunch of news making interviews, including a memorable one with our Kelly's been accused of so many crimes memorable interview to say the least. Yeah, really intense and really brilliantly handled by king, and she'll be joined by Anthony Mason longtime Saturday morning show host. He's been a longtime evening news anchor Fillon at a correspondent for the network. Anthony Mason, we'll also be joined by a twenty dokoupil a correspondent for for the network, and those those figures will be rotating in and around these these major programs, and what about the timing is is there something. Significant that CBS is going through all the shuffling at this moment. What does it tell us will even seeing a lot of coverage in a lot of rumors and speculation about what was going to happen? CBS had won some audience and also gotten a lot of morale boost by pursuing harder news edge for its morning show and for the evening news, and yet ratings had sagged in recent years, Jeff chlorine, some ways was expected to be the solution. He replaced got Pelley after Kelly's ratings after initial boost had had declined and there've been some tension between Pelley, the former anchor and former CBS news president David Rhodes glare was supposed to solve onto this under under roads and had not done. So and there've been a question of what's going to happen to pairing of John Dickerson, quite brilliant. Former moderator of face the nation had not had the same level of success as the morning show. It had under Charlie rose. And so they said something's going to happen. Too risky was named at the beginning of the year to shake things up in the shakeup was hers. So is. Is it just about ratings or how much of this has to do with the the sexual harassment scandals that we've seen this network through? Well, you seen a network. The network rocked by sexual harassment scandal from the top les Moonves, the chairman of CBS the entire parent network Inc. As well as Jeff Fager, the former chairman of CBS news in the longtime executive producer, sixty minutes, which is far and away in some ways, the most important show, certainly money maker for CBS CBS evening news CBS this morning. Have sort of been perennial third rated shows Charlie Rose's departure from CBS this morning in late twenty seven teen really rocked the chemistry and rock the stability of CBS news, but they had hoped to Dickerson could stabilize that. This sentence is the latest domino to fall from that. They want to stabilize the show want to stabilize the network insurance scheme particularly wants to show it's hers, and she's going to find a path forward for CBS. All right. Big changes today at

Former CBS CEO Les Moonves Denied $120 Million Severance Package

"This message comes from NPR sponsor Comcast. Comcast values your time. That's why you can schedule to our appointment windows, including nights and weekends that way. You can spend more time doing what you love. Comcast working to make things. Simple, easy, and awesome CBS is accusing les Moonves says of a quote willful failure to cooperate with an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct. That failure atop the alleged misconduct. Is why CBS is denying him a severance payment of one hundred twenty million dollars? So what if the downfall of a legendary executive mean for his company NPR TV critic, Eric Dagens has covered moon vez and CBS for years. He's here either. Eric, hi, according to CBS, at least, and we should note. Moonves denies wrongdoing broadly. What what what is CBS say moon vested? Well, let's go back move. As was forced to step down back in September. At the New Yorker magazine published allegations from several women. Claiming he had sexually harassed or salted them. So the CBS board wound up hiring to law firms to look in the allegations against moon vase, also harassment or misconduct allegations that CBS news and CBS is wider corporate culture. Okay. So we mentioned an alleged willful failure to cooperate was Moonves supposed to cooperate with those law firms. Yes, they expected him to tell the truth when they asked him questions about his past conduct. Now, we haven't seen the reports that these law firms have created, but the New York Times reported on early drafts of the reports which said that investigators have evidence move as had lied to them and had tried to destroy text showing that he attempted to find acting work for one woman who'd made accusations against him in the board statement, they accused move as a breaching his contract and quote, willful material misfeasance now I had to look that word up, but it means performing an official duty in an improper or unlawful manner move as a turn. He has said in a statement that the conclusions are baseless that his client cooperated fully and that he vehemently denies assaulting. Although possession is nine tenths of the law. CBS has the one hundred twenty million dollars. They say they're keeping the one hundred twenty million dollars unless there's some other preceding we don't know about coming. But that leaves CBS trying to move on from losing its top executive in this in this particular way, how deep does the problem run at CBS. Well, you know, this was a company wants known as the Tiffany network. It bills itself as the most watched broadcast network in America, they have all these popular programs. But they also have this history of harassment allegations CBS this morning anchor Charlie rose was fired last year. After a Washington Post story revealed multiple allegations of sexual harassment. Jeff Fager, the executive producer of the top news magazine. Sixty minutes was let go in September. He had sent a threatening text to a CBS reporter who was working on a story about harassment allegations at CBS news. The New York Times reported last week on a nine. A nine point five million dollar settlement with actress Elisha deuce coupe who claim the she was harassed while she was working on the CBS drama bull. So there's a lot. And and as a critic, I pointed out CBS's lack of new show starring women for years. The question now is you know, is CBS really going to look harder at its history. Now or just hope everybody moves on after this crisis pass, you're putting on an interesting connection or parallel. We don't know how closely their connected, but we have allegations of private misconduct, and your noting something wrong with the public faces. CBS the opportunities given to women the representation of women CBS doing anything about these kinds of problems. Well, the board says it's created this new position called chief people officer to revamp its human resources departments. They say their diversity and inclusion efforts have been an adequate and they're going to beef them up. They're giving twenty million dollars to several different groups that are working to combat workplace harassment. But the CBS board is her from employees who said that Powell stars. And. Executives were not held accountable at the company and the question is whether CBS is going to hold them accountable now without big stories in the media to pressure them, Eric thanks so much for sheet. It thank you. That's NPR critic Eric decades.

Gayle King Calls for Transparency in CBS’s Charlie Rose and Les Moonves Investigations

"Gayle king dill upset this morning and the CBS morning show. She's an awkward position think about that. Because you get the outgoing CEO of CBS lieu les Moonves says calling. She was calling for transparency from the network. Because he's been fired. And there have been a handful of women that have accused him over there were six in the original accusations. And then the New Yorker released another Ronan Farrow had another article six more, and that's what CBS decided to move on some of these date back to the nineteen eighties. When he wasn't at CBS places. He was at a at Laura mar or at Warner Brothers places he'd been, but they seem to be fitting a pattern here having sex with people who is working with in some cases, it was consensual then turn nonconsensual, and then another cases, which is tricky business. But then in other cases, it was like, hey, you know, this is what I need for us to get this deal done. So here is Gayle king women don't come out and speak this way for no reason. They just don't they just don't do it. And so I don't know how we move forward. If we don't we have CBS will don't have full transparency about what we find in our own house. We must have transparency, and I certainly feel for Julie Chen today. Now, she's in a very difficult position. And you know, wonderful, thanks for this company. We can't forget that either. So it's just a bad situation all the way around. But I'm glad that we are covering the story. And it's important that we cover it and get to the bottom of wherever whatever it is. Julie Chen thing always sort of. Rubbed me the wrong way. Former host that he marry. He married her. And she got every job on the network. She was big brother host and things like that. Right. Look, I mean they've been dating for a while. Then they got married, and she and she started she literally had three jobs at CBS. She really the best talent CBS has she we in the face of the network. I mean, if you're a woman at CBS, you'd feel like that's fair. Probably not. No, I I think I think for gale it's so tough at this moment because think about it. She just saw her trusted revered co host Charlie rose, leave depart the network under those types of charges, and now the head of the head of CBS, and what they're saying here is that just like an out of what NBC did they handle these things in house in these secret of investigations, and they don't really let everyone know like NBC did an in house sexual harassment investigation about Matt Lauer, and who knew what when and then determined well, the buses really didn't know and Matt Lauer has gone, so it's all fine. Everything's good. Now. I think what she's saying is this transparency in the results of that investigation. Should be known. We we we shouldn't hide these things if you. Feel there's integrity moving forward. That's a tough position to be an talking about your boss, your big boss and having no longer your boss. Yeah. And I will he ended up back in show. Business is a little unclear get his hundred and fifty million dollar payout, which is still on the table, potentially. If he if they find if he resigned, and so he's still going for that. And there's a lawsuit likely to be filed which is always interesting when you sort of get a golden parachute. And when you disappear under these circumstances. It's interesting one of the one of the things in there that fascinated me. And that story was that he had had a consensual relationship with this woman at a different company, and then and then she comes to have a meeting with him at his current company and hadn't been together in a long time. They just started trying to make out with her. Pick up where they left off to solve a sudden. Yeah. And she's like, no, no. That was then this is now and get all upset about it. And it was in. It's one of those moments where I mean, this is a guy. At least if you believe the New Yorker report, this is a guy like take his pants off every time. There was a woman in the office. A lower ask kind of a thing that was going on there. Yeah. If you really read the details, they are they they are worse than it was originally reported,
