"40 San Antonio's first news with Charlie Parker Charity McCurdy on vacation today and tomorrow. Brian Gannon, the 24 hour news center. Tag team partner Mr T. Tim Merriman doing what the producer does. Today is telephone Tuesday. Never even heard of that. No. Me either. I never got the call. Well, they say that it's the day that businesses get the most phone calls. So if you feel that a lot of phone calls already at work might need that extra cup of coffee today. The first Tuesday after Labor Day always sees a big spike and phone calls to businesses. They profess. That is because everyone's back at it after the long weekend was not the first long weekend we've had when most businesses weren't answering the phone. Plus, it's the unofficial start of fall. So summer is over. I don't know what that would have to do with it. And the holiday suddenly seem like they're right around the corner, and people want to get a head start on planning. Telephone Tuesday. I prefer Taco Tuesday. We're joined now. By San Antonio. First news national correspondent Rory O Neill. Rory let's begin with the news on Friday, August Jobs report came out United States. Employers added just 235,000 positions during the month of August well short of the 720,000 that economists had expected. Has anyone ventured a guess or a reason as to why it was lower than expected. Well, Good morning, Charlie. Lots of finger pointing most of it, though, at the Delta variant and really just causing a hiccup, then restarting the economy, even the unemployment benefits that ended yesterday. That was all scheduled back in the spring when we thought we'd all be lining up to get our vaccines and we never heard of Delta. So that's why they had these unemployment benefits, all set to end yesterday. I think there were three federal programs right? That came to an end. Correct me. If I'm wrong, Unemployment benefits being one and what were the others? Right. So there was the unemployment benefits for gig workers as they're called. That's about eight million people or so the pandemic emergency unemployment compensation that was given to people who exhausted all the state benefits. And then there was the federal pandemic Unemployment compensation. That was the 300 bucks extra that you would get many states half the states already cut that off. Back back in June or July. Well, if anybody knows the answer to this question, hopefully you do. Any idea what the ad first of all is unemployment benefits is that a is the total amount of money You're allowed to get is that a state mandated Amount of money or is it federal? That's a state program, but a lot of times in cases like this. The federal government then kicks in money to help supplement the benefits that's like we saw with the $300 so Say the state was paying you $250 a week the state the federal government would pick in $300 extra, so, you know, making a significant improvement. Uh, so essentially, the money is funneled from the federal government down to the states to let them pay it out. That being said, if my math is correct, 2000 bucks a month isn't really a lot. I mean, it's obviously better than none. Right. But if you're living in Mom's basement that'll get you through right to the question it But you know how long can that go on is the big question And, you know, economists are scratching the head at this point to wages are going up. There are lots of jobs that are out there. But lots of people just aren't applying or don't want these jobs that are being offered. And some say, you know, they're changing as well. You see that it's you know, two years ago, maybe it was nine bucks an hour if you work at the gas station, and it was 40 hours a week. And you've got benefits. Well, now it's $15 an hour, but it's only 23 hours, and you don't get benefits. So a lot of workers are saying, Hey, this isn't really an improvement, any forecast as to what this might do to evictions, foreclosures and the like. Well, A lot of the federal moratorium on evictions is over. The Supreme Court said the CDC couldn't do that anymore. Congress would have to take action and they won't so the federal moratorium on evictions is done. But states can still have their own rules and restrictions California and New York, for example, there's still preventing any evictions until next year. Even some cities have their own policies about what they're doing. If you're in trouble, make sure you're signed up to try to get that federal assistance. There's $45 billion out there, and only about 20% of it has actually been distributed. Appreciate the update have great Tuesday, San Antonio First news national correspondent.

The new season has already had has a massive lineup, including Martha Stewart, Ryan Lochte, Rick Ross. Kathy Griffin, Scott Disick, Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross. Now the original MTV Cribs debuted more than 20 years ago. And in the original run, there were 113 episodes over 19 seasons. I I don't know if I like this. I wasn't a big fan of it to begin with. Hey, look at all the stuff I got you don't the, uh yeah. Lifestyles of the rich and famous, which I used to love that robin leaks used to crack me up. Uh huh. Does this guy makes more money in one minute and you're making your entire lifetime? Well, it's coming back and August 11th. If you're into it, it will be on MTV. I can't. I don't even know where MTV is on my dish. I don't think I have access to. Maybe I do. I don't I think I have it. I just never watch it. Because why they don't play music. They don't show videos anymore. Why would I watch it? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Uh, that's one of those things If you're into it, it's coming back on August 11 so you can serve your calendar. It's like, didn't we get 20 seasons of that with keeping up with the Kardashians? I mean, I never saw one single episode of keeping up with the Kardashians. I am proud to say that that I never watch. I don't think I've ever seen an episode in its entirety. But I have to admit tuning in for as long as I could deal and then I had to change it. Oh, gosh, you know, with the pandemic kind of Waning and people are getting back to what they called normal. Bachelor and bachelorette parties are even crazier than they were pre pandemic. And according to a survey by wedding wire, they asked more than 600 men and women and found that bachelor and bachelorette parties are now averaging three days. Three days. Wow. A lot can go wrong in three days. Not kidding. I mean, my bachelor party was me and my my best man, Ray and our friend Jimmy and we went tubing. And then we ended up a galaxy billiard playing Ping pong. Awesome. Yeah, it was a blast. And then we ended up in some place down in the river Walk Billy Marbles. You remember that? I don't know. It was a club down there. I did not want to go. But they drugged me there and I don't know what time it was, but I I just hope I said Look, you guys take me home. I'm gonna call Cindy to come Get me done. I'm through. I'm finished. That's you know, bread. Didn't want to have a bachelor party and like, Are you sure he said no, No, I don't want to do it because knowing my friends, they'll probably go the whole strip around. And that's just not me. And I'm like, no. This is going to make me look bad. You should have some kind of magic as I've already had My strippers. Come on. No, no, I I was at the Hill walking Tara Hill Country Resort. That's a good point. I have a batch reporting. Absolutely. They had some nice restaurants, she said. I got married in July. So tubing was just natural thing for us. We went on the short, right? We didn't want to spend all day out there. Good times. And then we played ping Pong at the galaxy billiard out there on parent Bible for probably about three hours. We had a tournament going on. It was a blast, man. And this is before uber and left. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. All I know is I was not driving. There you go. That's all I know. Okay. Yeah, See now, of course, they quietly scraped and collected actual ice from the rink in the Game five final at the Emily Arena and shifted to their Golden Colorado brewery to craft Fame winning champion Ice brew. Now the ice will be per purified using reverse osmosis, membrane, ultra filtration technology. Still not enough for me, these hockey players out there, punching each other, completely sweating. "Mr T and four. Charlie Parker Cherry McCurdy is here. Also, Here's Santonio, First news national correspondent Rory O. Neill. So Rory the tropical storm warnings being issued for his also moves over Georgia towards the Eastern seaboard. We'll get to that in second, but how did Florida make out? I know there was one death in Florida yesterday from a falling tree was that from a tornado or just wins? Yeah, it looks like it was from a tornado just outside Jacksonville. That's still being investigated. But there is one fatality there and then a little bit further north in Kings Bay, Georgia. That's the home of the big submarine base. There was apparently a tornado there that touched down in an RV park, injuring 10 people there, though it looks like they're pretty minor. This storm is just spawning a lot of small tornadoes. That's one of the problems now as it moves up towards the Northeast. Rory is also considered a slow moving storm. Is that why heavy rainfall amounts are predicted. It's actually picked up speed a little bit now 18 MPH, so it's a little bit faster than I'd say most tropical storms, but not completely crazy, You know, early on its track, this thing used to be going over 30 Miles an hour, so it is now going 18. And that's why it will leave a good amount of rainfall. Some parts of Southwest Florida yesterday got 11 inches of rain in some sponsors sent 7 to 11 inches pretty common. Across a big part of Florida. So a lot of lot of draining going on today, so it's moving over Georgia towards the Eastern Seaboard. Where is it right now? Was right. So right now the eye of the storm is just at the North South Carolina border, and it is moving to the Northeast. So it'll be basically in New Jersey overnight tonight, clipping, uh, New York City tomorrow morning and then off.

She failed to save from a fire and she comes across this traumatized 12 year old boy with nowhere else to turn and people chasing after him, and that's where it goes. Cuomo aides were engaged in a lengthy effort to prevent the true covert 19 nursing home death toll from being made public and we know some of this, but they're adding in details. They repeatedly overruled and prevented state health officials from releasing the number of nursing home deaths, sources say. The efforts included stopping the publication of a scientific paper that included the true tally AIDS This, the Cuomo also stopped health officials from sending two letters to state legislators regarding the toll. Hormone refused for months. Release more complete data. State now acknowledges at least 15,000 long term care residents died nursing homes compared to the figure of $8700.8700 that it had publicized as of late January. "News, Mr T in four. Charlie Parker Charity McCarty's Here, Dave Oh, Flying the Millennium Falcon Way. Welcome in San Antonio. First news. National correspondent Bills M for All right, Bill. So the Biden administration is making a move or could make a move that would have really night that brush fire in the Middle East. What is that Move? It is rejoining the Iran nuclear deal on it didn't take long to really get things stirred up here. Our new secretary of state Anthony Blinken, eyes just on the job for a couple of days after being confirmed and He was asked about the situation. And he said yes, the United States could rejoin the Iran nuclear deal if Iran returns to compliance of the deal. Well, the first thing this did was touch a nerve with Iran who said that wait a minute It was the United States who violated this deal by pulling out in 2018. And they won't return to compliance until the United States removes sanctions on Iran, Then Israel, our ally in the region also got irritated. They have advised the Biden administration against getting back into the deal, and they have also added that they have revised their military planning to come up with an updated plan to attack. Iran, if need be, So, yeah, we have stirred up that Hornet's nest once again in the Middle East. So bill what happens if this hard line dominated Parliament of Iran's deadline of February 21st for the invited administration to lift us sanctions passes? What What happens next? Well, then where it were into a stare down here with Iran, not sure what they might do. Although we all know that Iran has proxies in the region in Iraq and Syria that could do damage in several ways whether it is attacks directed at Israel or at the United States forces that remain in the region, so there are a number of things they could do, but in reality charity It's probably unlikely that anything dramatic would happen until Iran has their next presidential elections, which are coming up in June. So that may buy us some time there as well because I don't think that any incoming president their their current president Hassan Rouhani is going to be he's done After two terms, he'll be out. So it'll be a new president there. I kind of think that helps us in that matter, But still, the United States and Iran are in a bit of a stare down right now, can we expect more escalating tensions such a season cargo ships in the Persian Gulf Yeah, very possible that that could happen as well. One other thing to keep an eye on here, too, is that we have now also put a hold on arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab amorous and those arms sales were greenlighted after the normalization of relations with Israel, and really, although not technically part of that deal. It appears that they were triggered after those deals were made. That could also be up in the air with this is well. So we all know how volatile the Middle East can be. And right now, with things like this, even like things were smoldering a little bit. And how does Trump's popularity with some of the Middle East governments play into this? You know now that Biden isn't in this office Well, I don't think they're there Was anybody more favorable to Israel than President Trump Woz, and it's not gonna be the same bite administration already has announced they will move the Theo Embassy back out of Jerusalem and back to Tel Aviv again. That was a move that that was unpopular with many, But of course, Israel loved it. S o. Israel is gonna have a little bit of a challenge here. I think even they realize that they're they're not gonna have another president that was like Donald Trump, who was favorable to Israel in just so many ways. For we let you go. Just want to say thank you for all the great work you've done for us. And you You're the best in the business and please enjoy your retirement. If you ever make it to San Antonio, look us up. Interview with Bill Zimpfer About Coronavirus Effects
"Right now we're joined by national correspondent bill sim for bill let's start with the the statement from the Surgeon General yesterday Jerome Adams who said that this week is going to be a Pearl Harbor moment for the country and then add it it'll also be a nine eleven moment nothing mixed about that message but there were some this weekend before we talk about the mixed messaging what do you got on the latest numbers development as far as this global pandemic yeah I I'll tell you what Charlie if you were one of the many Americans who tried to detach over the weekend and get away from this some of the comments and the numbers here are just mind boggling I mean when you hear the surgeon general talk about the saddest and hardest week of our lives let that sink in a second yeah I mean that's pretty strong language then since we launched last talked on Friday there have been a hundred twenty thousand new cases confirmed here in the United States forty five hundred more people have died here in the United States some pretty some pretty daunting numbers here as we head into the new week sell yeah not a whole lot to be positive about here and you have to wonder of the comments made by the surgeon general over the weekend are they just a maybe a little over kill in order to get people to begin complying with national guidelines since we continue to hear with cases of people just ignoring these guidelines I N. and one of those guidelines is a subject of confusion that being the mask the CDC is now saying we should wear a mask when we go out to protect ourselves and others we then heard the president say is voluntary and he's not going to do what we have yet to see any high profile ma'am high profile member of the admin straight should do so so yeah there are a lot of confusing things and a lot of things that just leave your head spinning yet let let's talk about that mixed messaging on the mask for a second because the president's wife the First Lady says she will wear a mask the president said he won't areas as you pointed out accurately it's a recommendation it's not mandatory but here's where it gets confusing I think for some people because everyone looks to doctors Berks and beyond out she as you know as the experts of which they are and when found she was asked yesterday if he's going to wear a mask and or and or why he doesn't he put it in a great perspective for me and I'm gonna use bills M. for and Charlie Parker as an example I felt she said if Charlie Parker has corona virus has Kobe had nineteen is positive if Charlie Parker wears a mask that would protect bills them for from getting what it would help protect bills ever forget from getting the virus from me but if Charlie Parker does not just got tested this out she did and is negative putting on a mask isn't going to do anything yeah here's the issue Charlie and I ate it is that we now know that this illness can be a symptomatic short on time so if you have not been tested a you may not have any symptoms you may not think you have it you don't wear a mask and you go out and you actually are creating a problem for other people so and and then that's why the CDC has changed its opinion on this early on you remember they said no less you have the illness there's no reason to wear a mask well you may have the illness and not now not in our area is so that's why they're they're saying it's better to be safe than sorry on this everybody should wear a mask when they go out needless to say as soon as that word came out my wife pranked out about three dozen of these things using using materials he found in the attic so yeah we have a bunch of my around here one other point of confusion on our part to others really one has to do with his medication the Clark went right it despite the fact that the president is really pushing this the federal government is stockpiled millions of doses of this there has been no comprehensive clinical evidence that it does work strictly anecdotal it's being used in trials lot of people confused about it you can't go to your doctor and get a prescription for it and it should not be used as a preventative that we know there's still a lot of information we have to get it could turn out to be something that could be useful we just don't know yet and it could actually be dangerous if you just try to use it on your own yeah and and I'm glad you brought that part out because the president said yesterday you know again backed him more mixed messaging and certainly it's not intentional but the president said you know it's been used for things before and he did as you just pointed out a lot we don't know if this is gonna work but there we can try it there's nothing to lose well dad's
