Raise take on the Yankees and it's going to be Jeffrey springs getting the start for the raise, Nestor Cortes for the Yankees. Yankees are minus one 70. Again, the yanks though massive struggles as they have just won three of their last 15 games. Orioles will take on the Blue Jays dean Kramer goes for Baltimore Alec minoa for the Blue Jays manoah and absolute stud this year, 12 and 5, 2.56 ERA, Toronto heavy favorites minus two 35. Here's where I'm leaning. The Orioles on the run line, the Orioles are the best run line team in Major League Baseball, this season, and the Blue Jays are among the worst run line teams in baseball. So maybe the Orioles at plus a run end a half. Tigers take on the guardians, it's going to be Zach, please Zack for the guardians against Garrett hill for the tigers, Cleveland minus two 20, Zach, please act just too in ten on the season, a 4.32 ERA. Let's take on the braves after Atlanta absolutely blows them out on Monday, the mets will look to bounce back Atlanta minus one 45 Taiwan walker goes for the mets, Charlie Morton for the braves and I know we had Jason weingarten on earlier in the show and he thinks the number is just too low for the braves. He's on the braves. To me, it's like an auto fire. It's the mets after a loss. I'm getting plus money on the mets after a loss. The mets are the best team in Major League Baseball this season after a loss 31 and 9. This year, after a loss ends, I'm getting plus money, I'll chase that plus one 30 with the New York mets to bounce back after a loss.

"Yeah. And he is something like I think 72 wins away from 300. You know when I know Justin in the back of his mind, he's thinking he's going to get that. You know, I remember having a conversation with him back in like 2011 about why he loved Nolan Ryan and he said because the guy was a power pitcher all the way to the last day of his career. And I think that's Justin's mindset. He's going to be with Tommy John surgery buster. That is exactly what you are. You've been given, you know, you've been given a stronger arm that's got more bullets in it. I don't understand why there would be a question about it. And I think sale next year throws 96 to 98 again. I just think they do. Yep. And Verlander, of course, has a qualifying offer in hand from the Houston Astros one year and $18.4 million. The Dodgers did not extend a qualifying offer to Clayton Kershaw. There were a lot of people scratching heads around baseball about that decision. I think that's just purely respect from the Dodgers four Clayton Kershaw legacy player saying, look, we're not if you feel like you want to go at the end of your career and go pitch someplace else like for the Texas Rangers, then we're not going to hold you back with draft pick compensation. But I think everybody assumes that eventually Kershaw and the Dodgers will work it out if Clayton wants to continue. Yeah, a little bit. You know, I think to their credit, I'm not sure if Theo was the sort of the blueprint guy for this, but, you know, there does come a period too. Will you recognize the inability to post when you need somebody, he wasn't available at the end of the year and then the postseason. At some point, there's a reality that we've got to really revisit how we're going to approach this, treat him what we're going to offer him. Yeah, I think there's a sentimental feeling that Kershaw will end up there, but, you know, from a front office perspective, boy, you just sign Andrew heaney for a year, and you didn't offer arbitration. You didn't offer a qualifying offer to Kershaw. I don't know. To me, I'm reading into what this says about their feelings, you know, maybe different than you do about his real ability and his health and yeah, if he wants to go do that, go ahead with some other team, and if they're willing to pay you, you should take advantage of that, but I do think there's some reality here with what they think he's capable of. Very different, unfortunately, for me, then those early under situation. I don't have a great deal of faith, not in his work ethic. We know there's nobody that works harder or prepares more or may have been a better picture over the last ten years than Clayton Kershaw. I'm suspect of what's left in his tank. And I love the guy. But I think there's some of that for the Dodgers. You mentioned the Andrew hiney signing yesterday, $8.5 million and you and I both saw heney after he went to the Yankees. He was awful for them, who was dropped out of the rotation, wind up in a sort of filling a mop up role for them, and he was getting pounded doing that, which is why when that contract came down yesterday, it was like, wow, you know? The number was surprising because you're thinking after he performed so poorly that, you know, he might be one of these one year four to $5 million guys. But 8.5 million from that team already, you know, you're kind of wondering as you do with a raise or with the asteroids when they pick up a pitcher when the Dodgers pick up a player like they must see something in him that they view is correctable, very specific information kind of like when the asterisk signed Charlie Morton to a two year deal after he was awful for the Pittsburgh pirates. I guess. I mean, there's a lot of faith in your own staff.

"To go there per se, but I just feel like the confidence level for him and confidence is so many times it's tied to success, right? What comes first? You know, confidence or success, success or confidence. And I feel like he had so much success last time out in a big game against the Dodgers, right? Really big opportunity for him. And he wasn't able to come through. Okay, now buster, Charlie Morton goes down, game one. Even though it's game two in the series, there's a lot of pressure in my opinion. I said this going into the game. If the braves do not win the max breed starts this World Series, they do not win the World Series. That's my opinion. And I feel that with Charlie Morgan going down, even though it's early in the series, there became a significant amount of pressure on max free to perform and to get the W, whether he gets the win or it's a team win that day. So, you know, to his credit though, they had a gang of singles that second inning and scoring all of those runs. So it wasn't like they were hit missiles all over the ballpark. And then when he got back on track and that third fourth, into the 5th or wherever he ended up very impressive. So I think two parts from max freed, you know, part a wasn't great, part B was really good for exactly what the Astros needed. So it's interesting you say that is that was playing along. I was, you know, they get behind big early. They're down, which, you know, four run deficit after a couple of innings and you're like, oh boy, okay, what are the braves do in this situation with freed, given the fact that they don't have Charlie Morton? And I posed the question on the broadcast, okay, do you begin to make a strategic retreat if you are the braves, knowing that max freed's innings in his performance is so crucial, do you get him out of the game after three innings and 50 pitches to potentially line him up for a game 5 on three days rest and then be able to bring him back for game 7 in bullpen. And from what I understand, part of the thinking yesterday was, look, not only, you hope that you can come back and win game two, but there was an element of we need to get him settled in. We need to get him settled down. And that makes sense to you. Yeah, yeah, I mean, it does. And I think you need the innings as well, because in game one, even though it wasn't a safe situation, it's quote unquote a comfortable lead, but you don't really have comfortable leads these days with the way that offenses swing to slog and hit home runs. And then you take a high powered offense like the Astros. So the last thing in my opinion and watching game one, snicker could do with an early departure of Charlie Morton, a comfortable lead, we have to bag this game. So we have to use high leverage and get to the finish line. With that said you had no AJ mentor available. So with game two, you had to get more in these out of max free. So I think a couple things to your point, yes. Get him to settle down, settle in, get on track, but also we need more outs out of you because even though there is an off day travel day in between game two and game three, these bullpen guys also been working a lot as well. And so with three games in a row, three, four, 5. You want to try to have them a little fresher in terms of the high leverage guys. But you know, we had some good stuff last night that we were able to look at and one of the things you did talk about was Kyle Wright, getting that solid in three strikeouts and what that might set up in terms of options for Brian snicker later in the series. And he could potentially Kyle Wright would be absolutely fascinating and you know the full disclosure got the full fully invested in him because he's a Vanderbilt guy known him. You know, he was an undergrad and great, great, terrific person when you talk to him and the braves have always believed in his talent. Number first round pick. And, you know, there are spring trainings when you talk to scouts, they say boy. The guy is the best stuff down here in Florida. He's Kyle Wright. But then he would get promoted into the big leagues and he would struggle, especially with his command and it looked like the game was speeding up on him. The last time before yesterday, the braves gave an opportunity in the postseason was notoriously that game in the NLCS last year against the Dodgers in which he didn't make it out of the first inning. Two thirds of an inning, he allowed 7 runs the Dodgers put up 11 runs in the top of the first inning against him and just I remember watching that going boy, I you know, you wonder if the braves are gonna feel like maybe it's just not gonna work out for Kyle with the braves. But we talked to snicker the other day after they added Kyle to the major league to the World Series roster. And he said, you know what? He's had less than 300 innings in the minor leagues. We think his stuff is great. He just hasn't had been able to get a lot of experience. And, you know, he was down at gwinnett for most of this year a 137 innings, just a couple of appearances in the big leagues. He stretched out. He could actually give some innings and I thought it was smart of the braves to give him an inning for Brian to give him an inning at the end of that game last night to get his feet wet because they may have to rely on him at some point. Yeah, there's going to be some degree of all hands on deck. I think, you know, for the braves going through the rest of this series. So let me ask you, though, I had heard Eduardo say something mentioned this lightly yesterday about perhaps right was rushed to the big leagues a little bit and you know guys could have the physical stuff, but mentally, you know, if it comes too fast.

"Because i think the goal would i saw the solid gold the mock game when i was on on the mock game a maybe they were just like kind of because it wasn't live. They felt like they could just sink into football man. That's fun when they do that. And and it can come for like a sue bird or like you know even myself like when all the sudden we go into some deep dive and coverage. And i'm like there was a cover to moment the other night and they nerd out for a minute and a half. That stuff is hard for the guest but it was really fun as a listener to hear them. Talk about the things that they're going to talk about in a film room like they get that stuff away. They could easily shrink the amount of time. They have a guest on the broadcast at all. I don't have any complaints. I had one complaint this monday when they did have brady on. They'll at the end. They're like oh we can't think of anything else to ask you. wait now. Wait a second the greatest quarterback of all time. You can have them on for five hours. And i think maybe they were trying to let them go or something. But i've known bedtime gentlemanly. He looks buried tired. Yeah before i let you go you mentioned you. Don't want love on twitter twitter. This and this and i called you twitter superstar. You can't play that game and act like you're so anti twitter when you have one of the best running twitter gags go being good mean that i have to like it twenty three hours a day. There's an hour a day. I like it when we're trolling hockey. And somebody when somebody tweeted me last night about. Hey the guy for the braves broke his leg. You're up like i was like in a dugout. And i forgot i was on deck. I was like fuck tred so let me let me give people background. And if people don't know what. Chris will do periodically is he will go on twitter and troll. Nhl fans about hockey players. Not being tough because hockey fans 'bout tougher than nhl player so game one of the world series tuesday night. Brace pitcher charlie morton gets hit with comebacker ends up. He has his leg. Broken doesn't know to time still throws a bunch of interests. So chris gets on twitter and says like the toughest players are. Nfl players in mlb. Player's fan baseball a- and nhl fans being so sensitive than decided to rip chris. Well the only time. I really liked twitter and then i don't fairly quickly is trolling twitter. So that tells you like how does that mean you know. I mean i used to like twitter when it was like a smaller room and then it got too big and then i did like i. I had to tweet about heavy stuff a lot. And so then i had a lot of people telling me what i should think telling me. I need to talk about this and you talk that almost like i worked for them and and there was just this period where i was like dude. I really wanna get off this motherfucker. But the only reason. I'm on it. Because i have a podcast and be honest like and people don't even really interact with the socials like that so i'm just like hey man so what. What am i doing here. It's to troll hockey. They're penn state lately. I've been trolling penn. State to they our on our into it..

"Oh my gosh. I mean, I think my biggest tape first takeaway is Charlie Morton, what an awful awful moment to see, but, you know, the braves are so resilient and we've seen this all year. And, you know, you have to imagine that considering that that injury news was put out there during the game by the braves. You have to buy the team Twitter and all of that. You have to figure the team was aware. So, you know, just add this to the list with coming back from the wrong junior injury and everything else. So, you know, I'm not feeling as great about that Astros in 6th pick that I made to you about 24 hours ago. Because honestly, you know, I was kind of expecting the braves to win last night even regardless just because of Charlie Morton, of course that's not why they won. But they looked really, really good that offense is really scary. Yeah, and it's kind of cool to see all four of Alex and thoughtless is additions during the course of the season in the lineup. You know, starting with Jorge, so layer down to jock Peterson pretty amazing what he added during the course of the year. All right, let's play the numbers game. Number three. Number three is one. So maybe I should have saved it for number one, but it's so good that I have to say this step first. Jorge is solar, leading off the game last night with a home run. I was doing this, watch party for MLB. We were live on Twitch. And this happened and our host was actually introducing three players who were with us. Trevor may, Tristan McKenzie and Harrison Bader, and he pauses these like Sarah, why is your face that way? And it was because Jorge solar let off the game with the home run, we had never seen in the top of the first of game one of the World Series a lead off home run. I just thought that was absolutely incredible. This is the 117th World Series and we got a first. I mean it's just amazing. Number two. Number two is two. So speaking of those acquisitions for the braves as you're mentioning, and you Rosario now has two or more hits, so multiple hits in four straight games. So we've only seen 9 players have a 5 game streak like that in a single postseason. And that is the record. So he has a chance to tie that record tonight. And if he does tie it, he could even go on to set it in game three, but we saw Rand heroes arena doing 2020 others to do this work. Nelson Cruz, Kevin Nicholas, Mark lemke, Ken griffey, junior, Marty Barrett, Amos Otis, pepper Martin, and already all the way back to 1925 with Sam rice. Number one. Number one is 5. So the asterisk have now lost 5 straight home games in the World Series, which is pretty crazy to think about if you just think about how dominant this team has been overall over the last handful of years, of course, the 2019 World Series was the first World Series ever where no home team won a single game. But that 5 straight World Series home losses is tied with the braves for the longest active streak. And they're only been four streaks in major league history longer than 5 straight. The reds and cubs each had historic streaks of 7 straight home World Series losses. So it's kind of fun because neither street technically has to end. We could continue to see what we saw in 2019, but it involves the two teams in this series. So pretty interesting that those are on the line. If the braves go on to win this series, and they do need bodies to fill in what the innings that Charlie Morton would have pitched. Who do you think might emerge as a hero for the Atlanta Braves? I think we saw a little bit of last night. I think it's going to be those left handed relievers that you're going to see snicker rely on more. Absolutely. I mean, I was so impressed with AJM mentor last night coming out and throwing two and two thirds innings, which might not sound like a lot until you think about the fact that this guy is a reliever is used to throwing about an ending here or there. He'd only thrown that deep into a game or deeper once in his career. It was when he actually made the start in the NLCS last year. He went three innings, but that was the moment that they won the game and a lot of ways. I mean, they won the game when the final out of the 9th happened. But that was a moment that we've seen from so many teams where a game can spiral. And when he came in, was able to keep the tone where it was. Where Charlie Morton had said it and continue that along that to me is where they kept control of the game. So I do think it's going to be the relievers. You know, it was interesting to see Kyle Wright added to the roster entering the series, you know, in favor of I believe Jacob Webb. And I remember seeing his name and thinking, wow, you know, he was key for them during that run last year until kind of towards the end of the Dodger series. He lost his footing a bit. But I wonder if someone like him could also emerge. And it's always exciting to see someone who wasn't on the post his roster until this moment. Get that chance to potentially shine like that. All right, Sarah. Thanks for doing this. I will talk to you tomorrow. Awesome. Thanks so much for having me. Thank you so much. All right, find your shelter, please. Bleacher.

"One game. And so, like, he was hanging around a lot. And the person that he is, you know, even you talked to his staff and the other pitchers on that team and how much they've learned from him. They're really a young team pitching wise. And so to see him go down. But it doesn't surprise me that if he did actually fracture it for batters before, struck out two batters with a broken fibula I mean that, to me, is any pitcher in the game could somehow mentally push through something like that. It would be Charlie morning. What the heck is going on with Alex Bregman who looked completely lost in game one. And look, you know, the Astros have a lot of guys struggle, but no one look more befuddled than Alex did last night. You know, belief, there's something about Alex and I've talked to him before when he struggled. I remember two years ago, remember he went through that stretch where he didn't have a hit and or extra base hit, like he had like little heads, but he didn't have extra base hit for like a month. And everyone was just like, what's wrong? Is he hurt? You know, I remember talking to him, and he's like, oh, it ain't nothing. It's all right here. Totally Alex Bregman, like the confidence, the belief, like I use that word because there's something about Bregman that almost wills himself to do things that sometimes I don't even think he's capable of, but because he believes it, it just happens. It's actually a pretty cool thing to witness when he himself. And it's not there right now. That belief of I got this. I'm really good. And I don't know if it's throughout the course of the season just wearing on you. You know, the last two years cheating scandal and everything that's happened to him, you know, if he's just, you know, been worn down, but what I talked to him right before the game. And kept talking about what he was working on staying inside the ball, Charlie Morton gets in on his hands about two seams. He always jams them. But not once did he say, oh, yes. I got this. And that's something that would have come out of his mouth easily two years ago. Yeah, and after hearing your story, and then listen to wardo, talk about watching Bregman in the previous round, you know, that phrase that Eduardo mentioned to his in between innings, paralysis by analysis. That's what it feels like. You can just almost feel him thinking Bregman when he's at the plate. And sort of sorting through things as opposed to two years ago, Alex so he seemed like one of those guys who was going to react constantly with the assumption that he would find a way to win. So but when do we analyze? We continue to analyze when there's doubt. Right. And that's the difference is when there's some kind of like, I don't know that question mark, which is so not like him, that's when we overanalyze. You know, I mean, I do it myself, whether it's in my job when I played like, I find myself doing too much work when I have doubt. When I question if I'm prepared, you know? And that's what you're seeing from him right now is definitely an over reaction to the struggles. All right, in the couple minutes we have left, I want to talk about the World Series as an event. Because yeah, the games are fun. And they're the reason why we're there. But I got to say, I love catching up with people and seeing their reaction to this really big moment. Like Eric young, the first base coach for the braves is someone I known for a long time. And he was so excited. Like he was almost tearful, weepy beforehand like I can't believe him at the World Series. Freddie Freeman was kind of the same way too, although he was talking about being overwhelmed by the ticket request. And then I had kind of a fun moment I was talking with my son on the phone last night. And all of a sudden, I see this person coming toward me and I'm interrupted, it was Reggie Jackson. Mister October walking through and I'm like, hi, Reggie. How are you doing? And it was just real that that happened. What about you in terms of the event? And the massive amount of people. And I think that's something that I forgot, too. It's like it's been two years, you know, since we've been on site and for the World Series. And just I mean, trying to get through the masses to get to the batting cage just to talk to players to be around them and coming off just like a few days ago when you're at a championship series where there's hardly anybody and you're just kind of making your way like, hey Dan's, hey, you know, just players whoever talking. I mean, literally it was like a salmon going upstream going to get like 5 feet to be able to do anything. And that's my moment, was just like, holy smokes. There's a lot of people right now. And you know, we also haven't been on site a ton. You know, these last two years, I haven't been on site at all for a game until this postseason. So there's that feeling of just like, wow, not only is it like live baseball here in front of you, but it's like the event. As you mentioned, that I feel like is times a hundred because it's been so long since we've been allowed to do this. What's a story that you heard yesterday that you really liked? Two for me, dusty baker, you know, I asked him before the game and our meeting about his contract situation. And he just smiled and said, that'll take care of itself. And he said, I've been the lamest duck. You know, in baseball, year after year after year, his contract set to expire at the end of the World Series, and you can tell dusty's not worried about it. And then I heard a story about after the braves acquired all those outfielders leading up the trade deadline and they were starting to set their sights on the mets in first place. There was a team meeting and Ron Washington, the very expressive third base coach for the mets for the braves. Told the players in the meeting, once we get into first place, the rest of those teams are going to see nothing but asses and elbows from us. And all the players just loved his confidence. Give me something in her yesterday. You know, I think the power of Hank Aaron in this World Series..

I'm honestly thinking about throwing away all my colorado rockies stuff and and becoming a fulltime braves fan i am i am not just. I've been cheering for them for a couple years. Now i'd love to see the rockies. Be there but i am in a football state. A football driven state baseball. I'd rather go watch baseball game than football game. I really would is weird. That sounds i love. Rock tober was one of the my best childhood memories and not really childhood but still one of my best memories was rock tober and watching that game last night I it's hard to think you know what could've been. i know. the braves went on to win. Six two two was you heard. Joe bucks call On fox last. Night charlie morton. If he doesn't go out with a broken leg he was dealing he was dealing. He took a line. Drive off the shin Broke his leg and then pitched for like another inning and a half before finally it was too much for him to to deal with but the braves are hot right now they are hot and it just a reminder a reminder of what a good front office can do for a team. This team was forty nine. And fifty one at the all star break. They whole losing record at the all-star break what another plan for the world series and they're up one over the astros without their star player without ronal kuna junior. I think freddie still the star but he's like one a and one. B ronald is is stupid. Ronald out They they lost another pitcher too. And i'm totally blanking on his name right now. He tore his acl Excuse me not as acl his achilles. So what are they. Do at the all star break. What do they do right. Before the trade deadline they go get jorges solaire. Jorges layer in his leadoff at bat to start the world series goes yard. I bat batter of the world series. Cranks one left. What else do they do. They go get eighty. Rosario resigned batting four seventy six in the play offs and he gonna do out at second base last night. Those are two dudes that they just brought in d. rehabilitated. Happy having pitchers yes is it. Mike saroka yeah mike. Sirocco scirocco was dealing in the first half of the year. He tears his achilles. And they guys like charlie morton they get god. Wouldn't that be great if that was happening in colorado if the rockies were even in the play offs. I love watching the fall classic. I love watching play baseball. But it makes you feel all what could have been what could be with the colorado rockies and yet they still don't do it and they still continuously continuously lose But the braves and astros back at it tonight. Braise looking to go up to. Oh in that series. It's going to be a fun one. It will be fun. It cracks me up last night of the unc coaches show. Jerry shem last. "Not gonna comply well. I think part of taking the job is that you're going to have to morph into somewhat of what they want you to be but also still being the tough guy in the in the dugout that you know if somebody's not running out a ground out the first bay ground out and not running out to first base or somebody is going through a tough time a slump or whatever. I mean. He's not going to be afraid to call them out you know he's in plus i don't know if he has the connection that core would have with his player. I'm not sure. I like this big personality to be here. There's no question about it. You wanna aid some juice senate organization. Bring him in right away. His press conferences would be phenomenal. He trashes everybody absolutely trashes every body that he doesn't like it is it is tremendous. It is i would. I would absolutely love to see that. That's the type of manager i want is. It doesn't have to be an old school guy. It's gotta be someone little personality some a little bit of age so i i don't see him opening his press conference with you know we're going to love our players like they've never been loved before gonna hate these all right. It's the morning show with boomer. Esiason and greg analogy boomerang. Theo wasn't really understanding. Why al was so upset about the charlie morton broken leg thing until i just saw this. Jeff passan tweet. So charlie morton comes out of the game. Yesterday he gets a grounder off. His shin fractured his shin. In an hour saying i saw headlines very city broke his leg and he didn't break is legs. He continued to pitch. But now i kinda understand. So how about this jeff. Passan tweet this little this little swarming. Tweet he goes. So yeah charlie morton through sixteen pitches pushing off the mound with a broken leg. Come like that. that's that's the thing that i think. That's probably pissing allah. So yeah good for him. He was tough and he was able to go out there and continue to pitch. But i mean it's not like the dak prescott the bonus pop it through the human form and he's out there herlin sinkers. Give me a break. Probably something i you know. I haven't talked about it all but you know my my son in law got hit apart hitting the ankle twice in back to back games at the end of the regular season last year. Yeah and ended up playing throughout the entire playoffs with an ankle that needed surgery and he did have like bone fragments. I don't want to get into a too much but You know. I i don't know what to tell you other than you know. There are different breed. They just they play through everything. Yeah well absolutely. And i don't know. If charlie morton would have been able to continue to pitch through that i mean he collapsed. One point so he probably wouldn't have Just the nature of it but so any ended up getting surgery that obviously yeah. He did while and that has been reported by the way. It's not something that i'm saying for the first time. So how how. But it wasn't reported for the longest time. Now let's lule. He doesn't report anything. No i know but how. How is it that hockey is able to get away with that. Nobody else is because there's just as much on it. I don't know i. That i don't know i just i just know that they're very Kind of stein stein. They're not specific and reporting the injuries. They'll just give you upper battery and g injury lower body injury but you know matt did miss games. Now he played through it. It just wasn't getting any better. You know once the season was over he was still having a little bit of trouble with it and then they looked at it and they said you know let's go in and fix it and that's exactly what they did. Yeah i know it always amazes me that like you know everything about every body in some of these other sports. Like in the nfl. If anybody has stay walk claude. This or a hamstring here or sits out of practice did not practice limited practice. Then when you talk about the nhl guy could be walking around with a broken ankle skating around with michael for a month and a half and you never hear about it and the amazing thing is watching him play. This is why you know. He's an amazing. Young man is that he still was blocking shots. He shoots something like that up i. That's a good question. I never asked them that. But i think if you if you kept shooting it up that it would just create more and more and more problems. Yeah prom so sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and play with the pain and man he dead. I felt so frustrated for him. Because you know you could see that. It was a little bit different this year that it was last year but then when you watched them come out and play this year you know now sudden skating's a lot better than it was last year because his ankle finally feels right. Yeah right absolutely and there was no way. He was not playing in the postseason last year. Regardless of what the scituate exactly. I mean you out there. There was a guy. Just trying to think who alex lorne who was playing for the tampa bay lightning and broke a leg and he had surgery in the middle of the series thinking that he could get back if there were game. Seven in a series. Now when you're playing in. The stanley cup playoffs means everything to those kids so Fortunately for him he didn't have to come back because they you know they just steamrolled canadians. But but that's kind of mindset that goes through these hockey players even even like enders league was skating at the end of last year. Yeah right which is amazing with his injury right. Absolutely amazing i haven throughout does like well maybe come to. They make a cup final. Maybe he comes back like why laughed at me. I did while. But you know in his mind. He probably thought he could. I want to read you. something here. we've been talking about this botched. Mets president search. I want to read you something from the mike puma article. And you tell me if this makes you upset. Or it doesn't make you upset. So mad arnold. They wanna make you know. Elevate him to the mets. Vp of baseball operations. So now they've struck out with all these other guys. They're trying to get mad. Arnold manorial apparently would bring somebody over from the raise to be his. gm which. I love anybody from the raise. Why not So he this is. This is what puma rights. "Remember because of off days or set up. You can do things like this. I mean, you can get four and a third from him of pretty good baseball. I mean, he was dealing. He made the one mistake, and he paid for it. But other than that, he really didn't give up anything. So you take that that gets you to where you can feel like you can manage the game. The Dodgers were in the driver's seat. The drapes de braves came, they caught him. It's as simple as that. So, yes, you can go at work or be there and push Scherzer back a day, but that is not the way Dave chose to go. And they end up losing, but it's still a tough move to argue against, I think. Yeah, a completely agreed. Again, one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't situations, again, you mentioned ureas coming in the 8th like you did last year. Absolutely. What he did on the mound against the rays last year coming out of the pen, I would argue to say, is the reason the Dodgers won the 2020 world no doubt. So playing that card again is not a stupid move, it just didn't work out and I do think again that the Dodgers will win this World Series, but Tony, I gotta ask you. If they don't go to the World Series, if the braves manage to take one or possibly two in LA, extremely unlikely, but say they do, and they go to go all the way to the World Series. In your lifetime, can you remember a team losing their all star MVP player? And going to the World Series because they got better after he got hurt. No, I can't. I mean, a lot of teams, especially nowadays with a punted on the season. They did. And, you know, hats off to Alex and thoughtless who we've had on this show before. He did a terrific job. I mean, he is got to be talked about in terms of GM of the year because of how well he was able to really put this team together after they lose Ronald Acuna junior who, at that point, when he went down, it was basically a two man race for the national league MVP. It was him. And Fernando Tatís Jr. and going heads up. Almost nightly, it was like they were one up in each other. They lose him, and as you say they got better. They bring in so there. They bring in Duvall. They bring in Rosario. They got Rosario, he was still hurt. He couldn't even play when they first got him. They knew he was hurt. And look how the dividends are paying off for them at this point. It has been and then you obviously have the guys that were on the team. I love Ozzy albies. I think he's a boss. Riley is having a terrific year, Freeman always does what he does. And because of that, they just play good baseball. They don't make a lot of mistakes on the field. And they got a good coaching staff. So this team was well put together by accidentalist and they got a legitimate chance. As you and I both agree that I don't think they'll do it, but they got a legitimate chance to get to a World Series for sure. And I agree with you on him being named executive of the year. The moves they make. You mentioned solare. And not to mention, you know, Travis Darnell coming back healthy, which has been very, very big. But the name you mentioned there in that trade. And I think this is the one that's really pushed them over the edge. And he's a former brave. Adam Duvall, what he has done over there, giving them some extra options in the outfield, not to mention with the extra options in the outfield with jock as well. You know, you're seeing them both kind of platoon with other outfielders and doing that ever morphing field. Adam Duvall has just brought so much to the table to that team. I was surprised they even let him go to begin with, but bringing them back was just a stroke of genius. This team has looked so good, not to mention max freed and game one, max creed. Whatever button he pressed halfway through the year where he realized he didn't need to strike guys out anymore and he can just throw 80 pitch complete games. Whoever whatever pitching coach said that to him, give him a raise and extend him against unbelievable this second half of the season. He has been their best pitcher in the second half of the season. That's the goal along with Charlie Morton, who has been his normal postseason self. Max Reed has been impressive. I saw him here in San Diego and he threw one of those CGs in like two hours, 15 minutes, very Maddux like, right? And he has continued that in the playoffs. He's pitching with a lot of confidence right now. So the question is, after you get outside of him and Morton, which the braves are at at this point, I mean, and that's the thing they had Anderson going yesterday. And he gave them enough to piece together that bullpen give them some credit too. That bullpen has been lights out, which was a tough part of their ball club last year. They didn't necessarily have those pieces of trust, but they're pitching pretty well right now. Yeah, I've been fun to fund the fun, fun to watch. But also on top of that, not to just throw this back at both of our faces because, you know, both of us have a very, very special spot in our heart about the San Diego Padres, but max freed former padre that could have been a popular man. Gosh. Both we got former Padres all over the field on that one. Everywhere. Just everywhere. And it hurts my heart so very much. Huge, by the way, Tony, getting away from the CSS and getting away from the World Series futures and everything that we expect coming up. Huge news yesterday. And huge news, ESPN's Jeff person, good guy, great friend of mine, probably good friend of yours as well, Tony. We've actually never discussed it, but he did a report yesterday saying that Major League Baseball teams will finally now provide housing.

Oh streak is the longest by a rookie shortstop since hanley ramirez reached in thirty six straight games back in two thousand and six. It's also the longest on bay street by a rookie and race history and the longest of course since johnny damon did it thirty nine consecutive games back in two thousand eleven my goodness. He is just absolutely fantastic. Down there in tampa bay and he's been everything that you would want as a race. Fan watching wander franko. You also had zack. Wheeler dial it in today against the brewers. He went six scoreless inning and his twenty eighth started the season they the phillies gave him a couple of extra days. He's approaching two hundred injuries for the first two hundred innings for the first time in his career so they pushed him back and secondly it lined up to face the braves at the end of the month in atlanta so he faces the brewers now the braves instead of the marlins which certainly looks like the right move for the philadelphia phillies once again. "He is dead, isn't in the conversation for best shortstop. He is the best. Shortstop, you don't know if you feel the same way, like forgave, oh. It's a flashier shortstop, but first of all, he's a much worse defensive shortstop much worse, right? And and I used to have this debate in the Press Box at Fenway with somebody who worked for mlb.com, actually, the statcast baseball sauvage. And I said, look, I think Xander Bogaerts is a great hitter. I think he's a good defensive player. I and that was, you know, 2014-2015 wage. I think he's become a great defensive shortstop, and he's really matured. And that's what that's the part of the game of that. I think he worked on the most refined his skills and what not correct me if I'm wrong but that's where I think he's grown really. As a, there's no question, there's no question. And, you know, it's not whatever the analytics show, I will tell you the, the eye test will will suggest that he not only makes the plays, but then every once awhile, he makes the above-average play to me in, in, in Cora had mentioned this, he's the strongest shortstop in baseball, and I think Bush was saying, was a, he's a bigger shortstop, obviously, when we think bigger shortstops, I think Ripken right, Ripton, okay. He was barely moving around in second half of his career. Shouldn't really have been playing dead. Hey, Ron. Obviously the he was too big to save. You know, he needed to move the third, your guide. Barry Larkin. He's a big guy, right? That really, you know, he's six foot long, he play he was a big guy. He's lost weight, he's on the Reds. TV crew here in Cincinnati and he does he actually does a great job. I wanted to get to Jesse Winker and Nick Castellanos office before we conclude but no Barry was He was average sized. Dave Concepcion was bigger than than very large. Yeah, but he was skinnier. Yeah, so, you know, you look at Bogart's, he's 6 to, I think he's listening to 6 to 2:18 a.m. but he's solid, right? And so, I just look at when you were talking to this conversation about the best shortstop, I don't think it's a tell me, who's better, like, you have to tell me who's been off all around? I mean, this would be the only guy that would but he's terrible defensively, right? I I'm not arguing Rob, I'm just playing this game. This is where we are. You sure it's all about production. It's very little, I mean there are metrics on defense. I get that certainly are runs prevented and whatnot, but so much of the game is so I'm pitching numbers, spin rates, and in offense, o p s and slash lines, and that's it. And that's how decisions are made on rosters. Yeah well and then, you know, you know why I mean, because you can lean on a team like Tampa look at Campos baffling to me and and you look at well, why is tax so good and not only could this you're the good every year? Yes, because you have Manuel Margot, you know, six six t o p s or whatever it clean up and and you know you go down the line and you lose Charlie Morton and you lose flakes now and you're still in it and really a big part of it is because of, you know, they're leaving a lot of stuff that you talk about but also this go back to defensive part of it. Like they're really good defensive team, very very so when you don't have the payroll right, role pays primarily for offense and defensive depth. Yes. And and so does that tell you what is almost more important now? And this is and unfortunately, you know what happens is that you have teams saying to their ownership..

Going to be the number two starter for the marlins this year. I think he's twenty one years old. Wow incredible stuff. this has since we're talking about pitching. I wanna ask you something here. Where are all the pitching innings going to come from. We go from sixty games to one hundred and sixty two games and the goal is always been to protect the young pitchers fair question but with the raise down raise other teams with his to give a starters. Rest doing this opener ship ryan. The bullpen gained with opener. What i don't like that. I don't like you but i understand like if you don't have a true five man rotation right gives you an ability. Carry your four man rotation throughout the season. I think there are a lot of teams that like the debt that are gonna go that route and you're asking innings from i mean that's what injure gonna come from. There's gonna be like the braves so for example. The braves announced that roster before any other team. We're only carrying five bench guys in carrying ten guys in the bullpen. So you tell me. Got five starters. And then i had ten guys in the bullpen. Which you gotta get those guys innings. They're gonna give extra days ribs like every other series we're gonna get the get the booming us more and be king. You start as fresh like a guy like charlie morton.
