"In particular grizzly and Carlo because those two guys always seem to get hurt later on in the year. And, you know, whether it's the playoffs or it's just late in the season, you know, now we're talking you're what, you're looking to give Connor Clifton 25 nights, 25 minutes a night. You know, you're going to bump up Derek fort, you know? So I think where they need help and particularly at the trade deadline is the 7th D the 6 D, the 7th D, the 8th D because I don't want to be in a position where Jacob's a borrower is being thrown in in game three of the Stanley Cup playoffs and asked to play big minutes. I mean, I don't know about anybody else, but when Charlie mcavoy went down the other day and what looked like a terrible collision, I thought I started doing the math. All right, well, lindholm stays and then, okay, well I think then grizzlies are going to have to go up, which means Clifton's going to have to go, you know, now you're now we're shifting the whole thing up shift. And just that thought alone, I'm like, well, this team's dead. They don't have enough depth on D like this is terrible. And you know, losing mcavoy is obviously more important than if you lost Carlo, but it's the same rules apply. You don't want to be heading into the playoffs with your 7th and 8th D as is currently constituted. And I think that it's going to be, that's why you brought up Luke Chen. I think that's a great idea. You know, but I think they had this issue last year and I always love the guy like Jake Middleton, who I think went to where Minnesota, boy, but you want mean you want tough, you want young, you want sheep. The guy checked all the boxes and I thought he would have been perfect to slide into that spot and again, I just, I can't believe we've gone this far into his career. We still don't really know what we're getting from Jacob's oral. I mean, it's been a while now. It's time to figure out what he is and what he is.

"Of hockey fans would initially bristle at that, right? And be like, what? They know, he doesn't deserve that. Like army Dave is the best player in the world. He should be getting paid the most and now they have to make it into getting paid more. And I think you lock yourself into the salary figure and then the cap keeps going up and then players who probably aren't necessarily as observing will just naturally benefit from that and get paid more because everyone gets a larger piece of the pie. And that's totally fine. That's just how the business works. I think pasternak. Is worthy of every dollar he's going to get here, right? What a time for him to bet on himself. And I think the way he's been doing it to, I love so much. He's just dripping in self confidence, right? It's like, all right, I'm out there. No, no, no, that's all I had. Yeah. What I was going to say is like, I love that he's doing the thing of like, I'm not afraid to negotiate during the season. All these other guys, I get why they don't want to do it, but for me, I don't care. I'll do it. And then he's going out and having like three or four point nights and I'm pretty consistent basis so far. And everybody's like, oh, there's another extra like hundred grand tack that on to the end of the contract. And the reason it's interesting for the bruins, obviously, is that they're probably not going to have to pay for them next year. They're probably not going to have to pay grade G next year. And that money is going to go somewhere because again, this is a team that's not going to attempt to blow it up or anything like that. And maybe you would even say you kind of can't if you have David crazy Charlie mcavoy. Or sorry, David passed or next, Charlie mcavoy Brad marsh and these are guys that are maybe too good to allow you to really fully call and fall into the mud. And like you said, with Timo Meyer, I'm really interested to see what the sharks do. Obviously, the senators are going to try to give Alex to bring it a bunch of cash, but is he a $10 million player? If foster 12, 12 and a half is to bring it at $10 million player.

And you probably very much enjoyed watching games three and four. What a turnaround. What a freaking turnaround. I know a lot of you believed. I know some of you were kind of like me and were a little skeptical of the whole of them coming back, but the series is tied. Two to two. This is coming out Tuesday morning, so game 5 is Tuesday night, so this will come out obviously before then. But very interesting little comeback, they got going on here. And so Conor and I got into why that happened. How they could continue it. We get into Charlie mcavoy and hampus lindholm coming back, potentially, and the ramifications of that. I think mcavoy obviously you know, when he might come back and obviously you know what he's going to bring, lindon's a little more controversial in a sense. You know if he comes back, he's going to be good, but what's his injury? Do you really want to push it? So that's a conversation that we had. We also get into, are we updating our series predictions? I will say one of us did. One of us gave a little update to the prediction. I think you'll be surprised. By it, especially given that person's confidence in giving that prediction. "Think people outside the market see, oh, you know, they make the playoffs every year, you know, astronaut and sort of some of these guys have developed and Brandon Carlo and Charlie mcavoy and people kind of leave out the 2015 draft and Frederick and beecher and some of those things and some of the free agent signings like badass. And so it's an interesting case. You know, I had said back after the bruins lost the islanders in June that Sweeney probably wasn't the guy going forward. They needed somebody knew they could draft better. Now, the draft, this past summer, was actually pretty good. I think that's they did well in that draft. They picked the best guys. They did not look for toughness and grit. They did with Frederick and guys like beecher. They instead went for the best available, especially with lysol. I think that was a terrific first round pick. And I don't think that's one of the, and even if I saw those in pan out, I don't think you can look back and go, oh, the bruins blew that pic. Like, no, that was the best guy available. Hey, that's a lot. So, you know, I don't think they're headed for rebuild right now. Again, you've got mcavoy locked up. You got Carlo locked up. You have swayman in net. You have all market net for a few more years. Up front, you got marchand for a little while. The issue, the hole is, what do you do about down the middle? That's the big question. Again, Steve nika hasn't really panned out to be a top 6 center in the NHL. Frederick, same thing, beecher. Watch the watch Michigan a little bit. It's tough to tell,.

"Goals against average at the time. An Omar has a 2.4 goals against average time. Both really good. And they're splitting time and it's working well and they're both just playing really, really good. How do you bring Raskin? How do you I mean, obviously, rask is rask. You know, we all know what Tuco can do, how good he is. But even in that situation, we have two hot young goalies successfully splitting time. And again, I don't know exactly how they're gonna split time. Omar is making 5 million a year. It's hard to have that guy play less than the kind of quote unquote rookie. But even then, I mean, how do you bring rask back? How does that, how's that going to work? No, and that's the unknown. That's the honest, and that's what's going to be interesting to see how they finesse that. And it's the same scenario if they're brutal. If they're both terrible and it's easy to play off, then there's no point of bringing tuka back if you're not gonna play in the playoffs, either. So I guess the sweet spot is and the easiest scenario is is that the team's playing amazing. But one of the goalies is struggling and or, you know, swam and straight. All right, he's got to get some more seasoning in the minors, get him playing. All marks of lights out to the point of we can't even get swimming in the net. All right two could come in. So there's a few scenarios where it does feed the loophole quite easily, but there's a few that are gonna make it pretty tricky as well. So time will tell. Yeah, that's the thing and I feel like this is something we can't exactly dissect now. You know, it's kind of just guessing. Yeah. And so it's funny because swimming and I know you're just mentioning it kind of as a hypothetical..

"Well keeps on doing it. But sooner or later that I don't say luck but that string of signing guys below their market value it's going to run out eventually. And even if it's not Maggie boys getting Eric Carlson money you're still looking at it like you know you've got to pay the guy what his market value is. And based on these other contracts you've seen signed markets going up. Oh yeah and I think again every time I will run ski or a nurse or a Jones signs and exorbitant deal that those guys mcavoy is much better than. And that's not great. When that's happening because that's just raising behavior potential asking price. I'm better than these guys. I want to ask for a million more 2 million more per year. You mentioned something interesting on brewing speed. And I think it's I think this might be actually the work. I mean the worst case scenario you don't get inside. There's another offer. That would be like the maple leaf. Yes that would be the worst case scenario but the realistic worst case scenario would be he signed another short term deal. Let's say it's two or three years at 7 and a half 8 million per right? And then their whole idea is he's going to cash in when the cap goes up and the TV money kicks in and the pandemics in the past. Do you think there's any chance that happens? I mean I wouldn't be surprised if you're looking at. What the limits are in terms of mcavoy's leverage and grinding. He's got a lot of leverage in that you know he's got one top 5 Norris you know finish on his career. It's probably gonna get another one this year barring anything going haywire. So. One yeah it's probably the best route that he wants to take in terms of negotiating with the bruins if they want to stay. In this contention window because I imagine the bruins don't want to as much as they want to keep them. I think that's anyone priority. They like to do it without allocating an 8th of their caps face to them. You know they don't want to sign them to a ten and a half $1 million contract. If that's the. Situation and so be it but if your mcavoy and their hesitant to do that they're trying to squeeze out whatever's left of this kind of contention window..

"And welcome into Pope to bear episode 57. He the Tommy wingo's episode Tommy wingo's play. Legend yes he was a he was the one who took the big dirty play from nasm in the one of many. One of many. So for people who don't know this movie I haven't earned off skills coming around in Boston sports journal. Connor I would ask you how you're doing. But for full disclosure we actually got like probably like 25% into recording the podcast first time around. And we initially said Tommy cross for 57 and then we looked it up and realized he was 56 and that's how he had to Tom wingels. We ended up having to start recording those audio issue an audio issue. You always find when you're recording but we are actually just embarrassed that we overlook Tommy wingels but. The people are probably the people who are probably happy because they would have heard like 5 minutes our 5 minute thing on Tommy cross and then like the 2017 playoffs people have been like just get to the freaking point. So you get your wish people. You get your wish. We're going right to the point. We're going right into things. How you doing? What's up? Evan doing well. How you doing? I'm doing great. So we'll jump right into things because and for the people who are wondering did we miss anything that you talked about? No I didn't miss a thing. Of course not. There was nothing that was very impressive that we talked about. We discussed Chris kunits in the 2017 penguins and how good the 2017 senators were cup run that was. Yes it was. And that senator's team was a wagon. And as you said. I'm referring to things as if the people have heard these things. They haven't. But the 2017 senators and you mentioned this. On our cut short podcast you mentioned cuts. Directors. Yeah the blooper reel. You mentioned that you know that team is so good at developing talent and then they leave a few years later. We're not going to pay these guys. I mean they're probably thankfully they're probably thankfully in parent Carlson that money. Yes. Because good lord. That is a horrendous contract. And again he was worth that money at one time obviously not the case anymore and that sharks team gone down the tube so fast. Okay. Bruins topics. To this episode going to be a lot of cap stuff. I'm going to be a lot of money talk. And with that the most pressing money issue the bruins currently face. They're not money issue but cap issue is this Charlie mcavoy contract that they're going to eventually have to sign an agree on. And he's a free agent after this season. He will be a he will be a RFA. So the bruins I don't go anywhere but they're gonna have to come to some agreement. And what's the best case scenario? Well it depends on who you're asking you know in terms of a new contract with the best case scenario is if you're asking Kelly mcavoy and his agent it's probably you know looking at the rest of this mock and how it's been reset with guys like hilma car and ski and nurse getting contracts. And if you're asking the bruins with the best case scenarios it's probably what we've become accustomed to with the bruins locking up their franchise stars below market value which for mcavoy now below market value is what 8 years 8 million 8 and a half million..

"There's there's there's centers out now. Does the team like National make forsberg available the deadline and that's how the Bruins get their second line Center. They go out and get Filip forsberg. I don't know. I think it's an interesting thing to think about the maybe Sweeney, backwards, whereas most teams try to gear up in the off-season and then kind of get those depth pieces at the deadline. And this year, you said, why don't we just wait and see what kind of second line centers we can get at the deadline next offseason project. You know, it's any possibility that that. Yeah, I think it does make it happen, especially if they go, it's better to, you know, maybe see what your internal candidates are see how they do and if you get to the point where you really nothing for working then wage, And at least still have time to address to the deadline. Granted that also kind of hurts your leverage. The team knows that you are a, hopefully a cup Contender. And you desperately need a second line Center to come and get going to get you over the colds because they know you're very desperate for it. But as you said, there should be a lot of God's available even even a guy think Tomas, hertl and San Jose is going to be a free agent after next year, I want to say so he's a guy that could be a legitimate, you know, seventy Point guy in the right situation. So he's a guy that yes, maybe you've you more than a Dvorak which again is much as everyone's getting tied to Dvorak you still game. I don't know if he exactly moves the needle in the direction that you're you're looking for. You need like I feel like he's maybe still a three seed maybe like an okay to seat kind of like another coil and you need like home. You know, you don't have a crazy but you like a hurdle or someone like that. Who can legit be? Get you over the hurdle, okay, I don't want him anymore now but that's those are those guys, you just a game. So, we'll see kind of how the deadline Maps out cuz I'd imagine it would be very interested around there. Like, even if David krejci came back, I still think you had to go into this season, expecting them to kick the tires on another issue transferring at the deadline of, you know, Ray, if natural decides to move back home. Again, if hampus Lindholm from the Ducks is available, like I would imagine they would be right in on any, you know, potential top pairing guy out there. Now, you've got to kind of two big goals, right of like, well, we could use another top pairing guy but oh crap. We still don't have a to see so often in choir both in the same deadline unless you're willing to mortgage as a farm..

"At least ten times what he could get what he should get now, what's he going to get with the Bruins? It's a different question entirely, right? Because we've seen multiple times where we map out, what a guy's worth, what you know, what he deserves on the market. And then in terms of what he actually signs when, you know, both the Bruins and apply or have to cross the t's and Dot the I's they kind of more or less always do take less jobs or below market value for the breeder, you know, purpose, you know, keeping the whole team together and feeling feeling a competitive roster and, you know, so but what does that even going to be right? I don't think you're going to see, you know, the the mythical David krejci kind of threshold of like 7 to 5. You know, it's going to go above that. Well, he's over the Czech Republic now. So but still are you going home? The ten million a year for one player or you going to just see 8 8 and 1/2 /. Just a long-term deal. You know, that's going to be the biggest question mark because scale, Of the way guys going to make bank and deserves ever in New Jersey. He deserves every bit of it so it's all going to come down to just you know, what the Bruins can you know, work out in terms of a long-term deal, that's not going to keep him in the fold for a while and just how how much of a cap hit that's going to be. Because I mean even if you sign him, let's say you get him for eight years 8 and 1/2 million. I think you ought to be doing backflips because he won, he's worth it to this. The salary cap number limits, going to be going up every year. So, you know, in five years time that eight million eight and a half million is going to look even better as this guy continues to be a top pairing legit, franchise defenseman. So yeah, I think it's all going to come down to what the Bruins who kind of, you know bridge the gap and work out something with him, because if you just a free agent in his going to hit the market and when you could see 10 10 and 1/2 11:00 maybe especially at all, is going home? Pending on what this next year is going to be, which I know you haven't. But sure, seems like it's a scenario where he's going to continue to get better and better like, when if we hit this the, you know, what are we reach? The ceiling callback avoid ever since he's getting better and better. So now this is why I don't see him hitting the market. I'd see this getting done Midway through next year because I don't think they want him at the open market, because then, there will be teams who are lining up to offer him 10, 10 and 1/2 for his Services. I mean, you know Elite two-way defenseman. Don't just show up on the open market every year, then on Thursday, or for the taking. And I mean, you look at just the top five in the north last year. Fox young guys, going to get a huge deal whenever he's up MacArthur just got a huge deal. Headman paid top-dollar. Dougie Hamilton Dome and a huge long-term deal and then you've McEvoy. So I don't, there's any doubt that McEvoy is getting a lot of money, but I do think, you know, for for the Bruins sake, you know, one of Sweeney's biggest strength, As re-signing his own guys and getting them to sign for maybe less than they would get elsewhere..

"And welcome in to poke the bear, episode 50. I'm Evan Aronofsky back here with Conor Ryan. Yes, I'm back from vacation, Connor killed it last week, doing it all on his own, which people don't realize is not easy. That's not an easy thing to do, and I'm not that we don't have a lot to say, but talking for forty-five minutes straight is not exactly the greatest thing in the world for the voice box. So, maybe I'll do the majority of the talking today. You're rested up interests up after that. Yeah, the good thing though, Evan is at least we had to talk about like Oliver ekman-larsson and like it's very easy to get wound up as to why the Bruins couldn't get them cuz he's men legit like a garbage over the last like two years like not not like kind of bad like not Lego little Reclamation project know he costs a crap ton of money and my god he has been absolutely Dreadful so long. Riffing off of a bad for about 20 minutes. Did a pretty good job shutouts Oliver ekman-larsson for hopefully contributing into one positive way. He will on any Bruins discussions because if the Bruins get him we're not begrudge it. Just come out that the coyotes are only. They only want to retain like one point two five million of a salary is that one cameras up. Yeah. Which just the latest and just a clown, a clown show operation about there being this is a team that whether it's the fact that they can't even pay off their own bills for their own Arena, Which is far away outside of the actual City of Phoenix, back to having a horrible farm system to all of their absolute, you know, mishandling of the draft, the last couple of years, or some of the guys they picked coupled with effect. They lost their first pick for things like improper. Like draft testing, I don't know. The exact thing is what it was, losing a first-round pick because of it. So now the new thing is moving karna, Galant Homme. Is they don't want to pay a guy who is been their best foot forward for probably the last two years which seems like he's well in line to get a single. I think he's making seven seventy-five thousand last year. So would seem like he's more than do for that. I would say Evan. Yeah not not going to pay that guy, but then trying to still have leverage when you've got a busted off defenseman, you're trying to offload. So great. Rationale, from that team going to see the NHL's can you to prop up a franchise like that, that seems to slowly be dying in the desert. So, yeah, if we open at 5. So just by burying the coyotes but you know what? They deserve it that reference as a joke I guess they were after a hot start just absolutely ripping ripping apart the coyotes which as you said, very well deserved. I mean, just a joke down there. So funny that like Vegas in like four years. Completely overtook them as like the team in the desert. So happy to see that. Yes, Conor Garland as well. That stuff is great. We'll get into that home..

"He's not going to be the one making the first pass is but he's a steady third pairing defense first guy, which honestly kind of need right now Hitman if your third pairing is a week off and Kevin Miller you've you're fine job. And then you really got like honestly like even if it's not at home, you need help on the decor and again on paper if everyone's fully healthy. This team is one that is a cup Contender, but they're not fully healthy. And that's the issue and these are not issues that can just be cured in three weeks. These are issues that are lasting a lot of people like why they being so negative and it's like well the health aspect of it like yes, your your third pack is not Kevin Miller and even some more alert or khula, fate. They require him third pairing is Steven kampfer and Jacobs moral or turn or T and camper and it's like, well, there's there's nothing like that. That's that's why so I do think that that's what happens part of me thinks it's going to be like a Bobby Ryan part of me thinks that somehow that Palmieri is not going to work out or the asking price going to be too high and they go for for Bobby Ryan. They go small. I don't think they get Mark Stahl. I don't think that happens, but I do think that I could see them doing wage. I just could see them doing it. It also feels like a year where they acquire someone but not like someone someone that you know, like when they when they were requiring like John Michael Liles a few years ago or or like Lee stempniak or you know that Band of Brothers like I see them do it. I can see them all soon, but I will say I'll put it down Palmieri and I'll say along. Those are my tube. I think I don't think I don't think they do more than two moves. Most teams. Don't then you're getting the first now what they give up for those I would expect Bjork to go back home. I'll marry I think that would make sense that almost happened last year. So to see it happening in this year scenery you need to change. So, I think your could be going back in that deal for Paul. Probably a second as well as you've said oleksiak. I mean, maybe you can do a third like and and a prospect, you know, I don't know that I don't know him as well when it comes to the trade market for a job. I haven't seen a ton reported on maybe oleksiak asking price. But but I do think that I think they end up adding cuz again sweetie when Sweeney spoke with us a few weeks ago. He's very open to like where we want to shake things up if if things get bad things have gotten bad so I would not be stressed also, they're going to probably be in the playoffs. Like I I I don't think that they do make it. It's just yes like did I get past the first round that's sort of the big thing Bruins vs capitals in the first round. By the way, it's going to be wild imagine Sharpie some of the playoffs thought that guys and maybe maybe us speaking low of what the person's will do with the deadline for you know, Jinx is it and they do something bigger like cats couple of years Island? Yeah. I'm all for 2 seconds can't ever McDavid Crosby but it's funny award last year..

"The bear episode 38-38 play. I was trying to think about this before we started recording who a good number 38 would be and I couldn't think of one. Honestly this time. It's like the Bergeron thing where we kind of joked about it, but I number 38 on a Bruins always loved starting to show off by not knowing something. I think there's no better way to start a show off than being like, I don't know something that I should have probably looked up before but that is it poke the bear episode number thirty-eight thousand Parrott house key. That's kind of ride a Boston Sports channel Connor how we doing Evans. I'm doing very well. How you doing? I'm doing well and you are now vaccinated to you are also vaccinated. I am I am also yes, I've crossed the other side with the Evan got moderna shot part of the moderna mob but during a bob that's us baby fabulous together home. So yes, very thankful very relieved and looking forward to going to many a outdoor beer garden this summer. So, oh you're in very thankful and relieved. Oh, yeah, I know. So if we're looking at number thirty-eight was that not Jordan Caron. I was just thinking the mini you said never 30s destroyed Quran. It is Jordan her on that case. This is Jordan coronavirus owed thier I know people were definitely listening pissed like they're joined crunch. It's Jordan Quran, but yes, I'm also excited to be vaccinated as well. So I will be Reckless this summer. No kidding. I'm kidding guys. Come on but no, I'm I think it's going to be a fun summer just to be back out again and things are probably going to be closer to normal. I would think I think people still be in masks. I wonder of the mandates in place still that's a whole nother topic for a different podcast that we don't host. So I guess I'll leave that to the health experts rather than the the the Bruins quote unquote experts. Kasab. When argue that anyways in the land of the Bruins they even in a win even in that 4-2 win over the Flyers on Tuesday night that you know many people were very excited by because one specific player who will get to Midway through the show even in that win. It's still isn't that big of a positive because your best defenseman was announced to be injured out of that game and then after the game day to day with an upper-body injury, and that's Charlie McAvoy. Now, if you watch that game Tuesday night, you would know that the defense of course that was rolled out that defense of cour of grzelcyk and then 50 in Moneyball and like Fifty feet of crap. And then there's us it's Matt grey like this fifty feet or I'm a couple Kevin Miller with Bruce actually cuz Kevin Miller did hold his own. He played a bunch of minutes in his first game back on that knee. So you're Kevin Miller. Yeah, Matt grzelcyk and you got the job. To crap and then there's the rest of the crew maybe maybe maybe a fifty feet of crap is Jacob is immoral underneath and then you know, maybe that's the 50 feet cuz it maybe it's on everyone's you know, some of those guys had their moments but the real question is Canada's team survive without Charlie McAvoy. Well, if based on what we saw on Tuesday, it's not great. I think it's one of those situations right where even if you get some level of good news where these you're Kevin the middle of a coup again, I think all fuel talk about, you know with his injury history, which I mean We Takin how much punishment on that need. It's to be expected unfortunately, but when Kevin was in and he's your third pairing guy you do pretty well..
