"Greatest racehorse, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Just about one hour from now, The pictures should start to become clearer for last chance. Qualifying of the fast nine shoot out tomorrow. What an interesting day it has been marked. James Davey Hamilton, Nikki Open to the booth. Also, we've got Michael Young Jake weary out on the course when we get some qualifying attempts, and Ryan Marine Rob Blackman been keeping us abreast of the festivities going on downstairs and gamesmanship if he will In terms of those looking to avoid. Being in The last chance shoot out tomorrow. Last road Shootout. Sage carom, RC Peterson, Simona di Silvestro, Charlie Kimball and No, I'm not making this up, Nick Yeoman willpower? Yeah, the same willpower that won this race three years ago. Mark, is that who you're talking about? The same willpower. This guy better rose 60 some of the holes in his career. The same willpower who is arguably the greatest qualifier in the history of IndyCar racing, huh? It Z pretty startling to see just how much Will power struggle the we knew the team Penske was struggling. In fact, Scott McLachlan rookie for Team Penske is the fastest of that bunch. And right now he's on the outside of road number five Joseph New Garden on the outside of Road number seven Simon Passion o in the middle of Road number nine. And then as you mentioned Mark, it is the story line of the day. I will be shocked if willpower At least doesn't try to go out and improve on his four lap average. But it is just startling to see one of the all time great qualifiers an IndyCar history down there. And if nothing changes today, in his final 57 minutes, he's gonna have Last row shoot out just to make the Indianapolis 500 fast. Nine again. Scott Dixon, Colton Heard it. Tony Kanaan, Ed Carpenter, Reedus VK, Elio Castro Davis. Alex below Ryan Hunter rate, Marcus Eriksen, But there's Morte to the story, Nick Yeoman on Alex Below. Yeah, there's no doubt about it. About an hour ago, Alex Polo went out on the racetrack with the seventh best time looking to improve, maybe get himself A little bit more of a cushion, and I think it was his second lap had a big wiggle in turn number one caught it drove in to turn over to the car wiggled again and started sliding up the racetrack, and he hammered Safer barrier right near the turn to sweets. It was a broad sided shot that heavily destroyed the right side of that NTT data. Honda, Good to see Alex Below did get out of that race car and he talked to Ryan Marine. He is okay. And we'll be good to qualify tomorrow. But certainly the status of what shape that race car is in is something we're gonna have to track throughout. The next 24 hours. The good news for Alex below is that whether he goes to a backup car or not, he will stay in that seventh position. Barring any changes here, Mark Jayne's in the final 56 minutes. That word coming through rhyme arraign courtesy of vice president of Communications, said Dave first saying that you know there are approved. Sassy changes. That means that Alex below regardless of the condition of that race car, But Davey, if we go back, and from the looks that we saw it, Ryan got it up close and personal. Look at it. I I think it's gonna be a long night for him. But that car I think is the one they're gonna focus. Not amazing that you look at that photo, especially Nick had won that He brought up online just how much that safer bear flexed and how hard that and how flat that's right side. That car was that it's not just completely destroyed. They're just they're gonna wallet in there, but new right side parts on some new bodywork, but that tub the integrity of these tubs is just absolutely amazing. And to fix that that car is really Yeah, I should point out. I mean, it's big of a hit is that was I don't think it was this bad market Santy no fruit she's a few days ago. And Ray Hall. Let him Atlanta get repaired that race car. So it says a lot. You're right, Davey one about the safer barrier and how it keeps these drivers protected. But more importantly, markets that the structural integrity, the strength of these race cars and you could put him back together After some big hits. A couple of people have inquired, you know, following the story have asked, you know, winded that rule change because once upon a time that was the case, if that car was too badly damaged to be repaired, neither good or back up. Are you gonna do the real field? We're not sure win that change story about that. We'll see if we can find that out. The important thing is, though, at this point, I think the rule has indeed changed. And that's good news for Alex. Below. So the activity business picking up as they say at all right, Marine 100%, especially here on the south and.

"And as award tries to re gathering, there's Jack Harvey, who's got a bit on the march as well in that well Position about a couple Carling's back. But you're right. Any time Mark. You see cars going side by side down that long straightaway. I think we all kind of perk up in our seats. And you know all the fans do on the hillside there because you know things are going to funnel down and 45 and six and that's where you might see. Well, we'll contact Jack Harvey disappointed with his 19 place, starting position and his issues of qualifying, Davey Showing that he's being patient as well and picking his spots to be plus seven in a place like Ohio State impressive run well, having such a good run yesterday as well. Marky finished seventh yesterday. Hometown Homestay Team based in Ohio. That shake racing team So he definitely wanted a good result. He knew that he has the car to get that, but unfortunately without little incident in the rain this morning made him you know, certainly started back that 19 position But like 12, serious except sponsored machine, So you know a lot of you for joining us on serious except today and that good it for Jack Carter as well. You should likable guy for Seraphine over much about it. Get to know him because he's a likable one. And I think your story is one that I don't know that it's told enough. I mean, imagine pulling a race car driver in the room and say, Okay, Here's the deal. We're going to run 34. Maybe five races the first year. You gotta stay with us because of next year morally gotta run 10 races not going to run a full schedule hopefully of everything, hopefully, affair that goes well by the third year will be full time. That is a leap of faith. I want to say you and I were we wouldn't talk with Jack Harvey when he was in any lights. Wasn't no walking everywhere in the trailer, and he admitted, I don't have a ton of funding behind me all my eggs in one basket. I want to go in the car racing. And when he went over to winning the lights championship came so close. I think our hearts all kind of went out. So I'm thinking, Oh, boy, The tree may end right here, but it's a great story The way Michael Shank and Meyer folks, folks sorry. Sex haven't flashed onto Jack Harvey. And you're right. It's been a slow process, but it's so cool to see Jack Harvey out there running well, these guys Nick that benefited from the new Indy lights car because under the old configuration, which he ran first, there was really no. It's Senate because of how different the two cars were for a guy to run two years and he likes. But with the new chassis and the new package came along, it made sense for Jack Army to do another year. Yeah, running on these tracks, running a style of car of the large style of car prepares, you run at this level, and I think that's why we've seen him. "He's the veteran of that team only being a second year in the cars. But, man, he's laying them down right now. Way Stephen Come down the straightaway. Helio Castro, Devon Alexander Rossi, That one's getting interested. That's interesting. That's a battle for fourth. Nick Rossi was trying to run down. Scott Dixon. Michael He's got a ton of cars. Dixon Elio with two came out. He ran onto that trio Penske cars with Simon Passion. Aurelio Castro, Dez and will power and Alexander Rossi got eaten up the field now. Turn three. Keep in mind. Alexander Rossi was in fuel conservation mode for a while there as it happens right now, he's starting to watch Castaneda's get away so much traffic and lapped cars between all these leaders as passion. Oh, and pencil. A machine of Castro Demas fly by. Yeah, we're looking a little further back. Now It looks like Charlie Kimball. He's trying to draw a bead on willpower. Nick. That's about percent of it is the battle for seven hours. You are like a pimple giving chase to Alexander Rossi got my head checked Kimble's starting to close it all the way with power. Charlie Kimball has a top three finish the Indianapolis Motor Speedway trying to mix it up now coming in odd will power. He's got about a car lengths to try to make up. He's in the middle of the short shoot on the north side of the track. Charlie Kimball in Car number four. Again. He's a good 10 15 cars behind willpower. Yeah, he's starting to lose touch with will power and all the sudden his mirrors is starting to fill up with Mark away. Ready, Marco with strong charge into turning water car lengths behind Charlie Martin, stretching short right sides nearly up against the South End. Short shoot. Now comes out of turn. Number two closes in on Charlie Kim, about three car legs for Charlie. Everybody exiting Turn number two very quickly gets to the bottom of Racetrack. Start to drift up just a little bit entering Turn Number three. That's what Charlie Kimball does right now. Just behind pretty patient right now. The pole sitter Marco Andretti again just wants to be up front. When it's winning time. He's about five car lengths behind Kimble speaking up up front. It's passion, Castro Neves and Saddle the battle for third getting interesting. In one. They are nose to tail passion over Elliot. That short sided pageant takes that car almost out of the concrete. Then about five car lengths back to his teammate Helio Castro. Dev is right behind the battle ensues. They're already 23. You had a feeling Elio Castor. Devon's would use strategy a lot with his teammates, Simon pads, you know to quickly get up. With the leaders. That's exactly what they've done. They work their way into turn number 34 of the top five right now are former winners just in front of Castor Nimbus is his teammate Maginot He's got about 15 Maybe 10 car links ahead of Castro Neves update from day first, Just a quick update on really did come back in and serve that stop and go penalty also quickly spoke to the crew and that he brushed up against the wall against. He's okay as well. So everyone Okay? That's great news Day we have completed seven Four laps. Doubt Dixon askyou Passion of Castro, Devon's inside of the top five. Rossi Power.

"A hard time keeping that equipment in stock. So he's going to talk about what to get. If you only got options to get certain things from amazing ribs dot com. That's where you get all the information on everything. And Max Good is the best in the business, So we'll be talking with him about that. On the racing side coming up this weekend at Road America, the National Park of Speed NASCAR IMSA is going to be there. Chase Brisco. You know him as one of those very hot drivers in the NASCAR Xfinity Siri's also great Road Course driver. He's going to join us and Charlie Kimball is going to join us from the IndyCar Series racing for a J. Foyt as we get closer. To the first ever Indy 500 number one that's been held in August and then number two that is going to be run with no fans. Lots of people watch it on television. But the first time that iconic venue that normally has 400,000 people screaming is going to be absolutely empty is the crown Their next champion. Our first guests that we're gonna have on we're going to talk with him for quite a quite a time. So even though we did have the White Sox post game, we've got a nice extended conversation with this guy, one of my favorite people out there. And if you read new City magazine, you know, he's the dining intricate editor. The one and only Dave Hammond. A Welcome to the show ain't good to be here. It's good to have you It is good to have you make sense of some of this, Of course, you know. Ah, we would call you all sorts of things, you know, travel and explore a Renaissance man in a bunch of different ways, but a regular guy and a bunch of ways to and dealing with a lot of the things That that we're all dealing with on the pandemic side. We've got a couple minutes for. We've got to take a break and then kick into things but talk a little bit about some of the things we're going. We're going to hit on today with our visit. Well, that title the tentative title that I had suggested, was how I stopped worrying and learned to love covert 19. But I realized that would really not love. I mean, you can't love something that's causing death around the world. But I think there's ways to make the best of that That experience, you know, it's an opportunity when your life is shattered, and you know it. There's a new sense of organization that has to take hold. You have an opportunity to change some things. Try some things You haven't tried yet. And maybe, you know, come out a little better when everything's over, which we cross our fingers. Hope will be someday soon. You know, it's interesting that home to people you have coming up the guy talking about home theater. One of the first moves we made when the pandemic hit was by Ah A larger television. I think that like 50 inches, I was amazed how inexpensive they are These days. I remember when I like in 2000 and 4 4005 we bought a big screen TV. It was huge with gigantic and it was We finally had a higher like two giant men to come haul it out for us because it weighs just it was incredibly heavy. Now, these light little video tell of its 50 inches, which is you know, there are a lot of bigger ones out there. But that was right for the space. We're putting it in. Uh, busy hotel flat screen. I could carry it under one arm. It's amazing how it has changed, and I used to make a joke to And this was this was maybe Yeah, early two thousand's, that I would go to best buy to visit my television cause I could never afford it for it was a It was a planet, but I don't think it was his biggest. Maybe the ones maybe it could have been 50 inches. I don't know. If they were that big. Then it might have been 40. Still with so much bigger. That a tube TV that you would have, and it was, ah plasma television, and it was thousands of dollars. It was it was, it was prohibitive to get grant. But you remember Dave the back in the old days, you know, wouldn't everybody watched? You know? Unless you have one of those projection TVs were you sacrificed size for sort of blurriness? You know, if you had a tube television 25 32 inches about his big zit you would get because You just couldn't carry it. It was a couple £100. We've moved s O. Many of those. And so the advancements on the television side. The consumer wins, Because now you can get you know, a 65 inch television for $500. You play your cards right and look around and the pictures are amazing. So we're going to take a break. When we come back. We're gonna talk about some of the things we won't say. Not learning to love the pandemic. Obviously, they can't do that. But finding maybe some silver linings and coping in ways that that I think are maybe kind of moving us forward and other things and other ways that may stick for the duration. Quick break back, with Dave Hammond staying here on 7 20 W. Gm Now, you know, get all the quality parts. You need your locally owned Napa because right now, when you order from Napa.

"The science has evolved of flooding meditation. Then my treatment has evolved as well. I worked very closely with by healthcare. I'm a huge proponent. That diabetes is a team. Sport breaks a full team to successfully manage diabetes when it comes down to medical professionals for sure by chronology Dr Peters Diabetes Educator Donna. Working with the nutritionist. My exercise physiologist integrated that. But it's also my team at home. It's it's my wife. My parents my sister. My friends that I'm having a hard day on burned out. They're the ones that support me healthy and encourage me Even people the diabetes community are the people that understand what I what I go through every day and sometimes reaching out to ban and just talking through challenges they faced or how things have gone really well for the last couple of weeks Is I think that's an important part of vantage get talked about Managing Diabetes exported working within that team to continue to ask questions about what infringer available. What injection method allergies are out there? how how things worked for me? It find having problems if I have an issue with by JAB activity. Is someone else they that overcome that. I think that that dialogue is really important to keep getting better lie. I think families are really important component. My former husband is a type. One of forty four years and doesn't have any diabetes complications. And we're really good friends and I was meeting recently. Were talking about blood. Sugars new said. Don't you remember you know? We got married in her late twenties. I don't remember every time my blood sugar was high said. Don't worry it's GonNa come down and it really made a difference and I said I really said that he's like yeah and it helped so I really. It's interesting because even for me I you know having these conversations you forget that how important your family is. Because it's easy are they're that first line of support and and sometime. I definitely kill badly. That has to get the deal with my Mood swing by blood. Sugar Swing sometime and the Beeping of my my desk com g six bedside table in the middle of the night those sorts of things. I feel badly that when she's trying to sleep and especially at the moment she's pregnant and where Trying to make sure she gets arrest. And sometimes especially if I'm hovering around and alarm blood sugar and I've a glowing above the flow it It doesn't always wake me up because I I hear it. I understand by punchers. Okay right around that alarm number. I'm fine but it definitely wakes her up. I feel badly about. I think you know as you were saying. Family's really important but also diabetes is a family disease you know. Everyone learned to participate. I know for me when I got involved with my former husband. I was really impressed. The way he manages diabetes. He really was proactive. He wasn't embarrassed about it. And the way he modeled. It was the way I expected everyone to being than later when I start working in the industry I realized that not. Everyone's like that so modeling that in having the support and having your family support you know rather than publicly shaming you for example some people write me and say hey you know i. I dated someone and they tested their blood sugar at the table. Unite isn't that improper knows like I said No. It's not so so I think that's I think to me that's one of the great things about having worked with the race with influence program for the last twelve years is being able to green diabetes into the light a little bit too to kind of remove some of those stigmas that people talk about And I can't remember who it was. It was another notice patient lassiter and he was talking about. How is his grandmother had diabetes and and they didn't talk about it they said. Oh she she's got the sugar just kind of it was. It was just kind of a nord or almost minimized and now the conversation around diabetes has changed part of it is the growth of the the community wants. Take Two's And access all right access and communication. I think social media podcast boggs. Online interaction has really allowed the conversation within the diabetes community to to remove that stick by to to make it more of a interactive dialogue with all of the stakeholders within the the disease state from. You know medication. Companies to healthcare professionals to patients to advocates to passengers. There's there's there's this great continuing to grow as low energy of bow the conversation and and the future And then something that you know being involved with no one can being part grace within flip program. I think my rookie year in Indycar in twenty eleven in fact couple years before that has been a lot of fun to be part of and does the new team that you're racing with is something that they're learning about also taken it upon themselves. They know the difference between type one type two or do you feel a responsibility to them with that. Like oh it's funny. You say a responsibility to educate I think I see it as an opportunity to you educate The new team for me. It's really exciting on a professional level to raise for somebody like Aj four Aj for history with indycar racing thing within the Indianapolis Motor speedway general as a driver. He's one all over the world. Some of US psychotic races out there and touch was the first four time winner of the Indianapolis five hundred. That's pretty rarified. Air and he has his face on the Warner Trophy. Times fighting it out with five hundred in five different decades and you talk about that and how challenging it is to just make indy five hundred not only did he make it in five different decades. But then he went on to win it four times so his history as a driver. Is it Tommy? The whole team and a culture of the team the being able to to learn from him and and work with their team at at in the card every car race. This year is pretty exciting. I think it's it's early days within by awareness and education campaign within the the race team but there are a couple of team members mechanics team managers. But I've worked with at previous rates. So they're pretty aware and they're really excited to to continue to learn and and learn about the race with programming. Will THAT BE TRUMP? Let let me ask you with the decks COM G. Sex.

"Good idea for them to do something like that. Something along the lines of maybe like Alex. Tagliavini was never my favorite driver as a driver but love as a person then obviously he has some fantastic insights given choose. Know what it ended up seventeen years of racing so racing any car. I guess but yeah I mean it wouldn't hurt to have somebody. I mean like team penske and they sell Rick mears around and I think that they're three drivers will be the last drivers that need any coaching. I think it's never a bad thing to have someone who can lend you. An extra voice can help you out things so for sure. I think they definitely should look at bringing in a sense. Some veteran who's either retired last couple of years. Irv WHO's just a part timer nowadays like a Serbia Kazaa definitely. I don't think it hurt. It hurt them at all. Ya'll agree with that. There's always for an extra set of is pretty much in anything you do so I think that they would definitely benefit from it. Not really sure who would be a good fit but I have a feeling that they will find that person in. They'll get them in place pretty quickly. Yeah and We'll keep an eye on that and we'll see if we spot anybody at the paddock next year or anything like that and and what you guys know if we ever seen anything but moving on to more driver. News Charlie Kimball has signed a fulltime deal with agent for enterprises with the help of his longtime sponsor Novo Nordisk he will be the number four cars so that was the only although someone shared today. I believe it was Eric. Smith share today that Tony canonic making an announcement Thursday morning so recording tonight on Tuesday so two days from now will. I'm sure we'll touch on it Next week's episode. Whatever it may be so probably something with fourteen car. We don't know what capacity but will fill you guys on that but for now yes has announced the number four car. So that's definitely good news as far as just having an entry in employment for the folks that work there but what are your overall thoughts about a kimball to the car I mean. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. They said they wanted to kind of shake things up and I kind of feel like this does that. Cause he's a little different than what they would normally pick so mean I. I think that it can be a good thing as long as everybody works together and I know that's kind of been. Their goal is is to get a good team in place. So that's what they got to work on. His is the whole team aspect in my opinion virga point. I think it's a good thing for for both sides. It gives Kimble a full year. Which you know I. It's tough to get into a rhythm when erasing now. I don't know once a month. Essentially what he writes last year with seven races and as we saw last year he he really was much improved over what we were used to from the Kent Law of the past two years where he was running into the back of guys squeezing willpower off the side at Watkins Glen a couple of years ago and things like that so maybe this does provide a little bit of help for the team in terms of experience. And it'll help coach a young driver or two along the way. Probably GonNA regret saying this but I mean right now at honestly doesn't look so bad I know he's prone to his moments and whatnot. But there's been a lot of drivers in the past that have been prone to to certain moments on the track that make you scratch your head. But then they also weren't that likable off the track and with Charlie like. He's one of the nicest guys of Alzheimer's I think for me. I kind of gives him the benefit that like you know. I don't mind seeing around him. He was that every race last year anyways with Carlin just around the paddock He's just you know always smiling. Always Fun guy to be around. It's just Some of those on-track mistakes are pretty aggravating times. But if there's anybody that by right now I think Charlie Kimball would be the guy out of the least issue with so honestly is going to be good to see him at the track. He's he's just a really likable guy with Kimmel. You know. Obviously you guys touched on improving last year at not making as many incidents off on the track and causing too much carnage. Will this at all stabilized void? Do you think that if he keeps it clean nosy gonNA elevate foyt to once they higher levels because they're kind of at the bottom already but do you think he can help them improve at all? I mean kinda touching. I'll just said there's nowhere else to go but up so it can't get worse. I think I know in the press conference last week. It was last Wednesday. I guess they mentioned we'd like to some point on consistently in the top ten. I think if they're running consistently in the top twelve or thirteen may be making it to that. Second round of qualifying like dimensioned a necessarily of race but handful of times in half the races. I think that is a huge improvement and I think somebody like Charlie Kimball. Who's been around? Knows how to work the setup of a car and get something out of a less than ideal car like he did a Carlin or than once last year will be a huge win and and help Kind of start to improve somewhat. If we see the Charlie Campbell of last year. Then yes if we see the Charlie Kimball of previous years where he struggled to finish race because he was always some sort of incident than know and unfortunately I do kind of think that would actually be going backwards for them. So hopefully I'm gonNA keep my fingers crossed that we see the Charlie Kimball of last year that he carries over that consistency. And you know I I would say that finishing like you said in the top Like I'll even say to fifteenth on a consistent basis would would be a a big improvement for them so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that team Jeremiah. Unfortunate personal opinion is that given the recent history of Floyd. I honestly don't think it matters with. They put in the car because if they don't get the behind the scenes stuff figured out. You could put anybody in those cars right now. It's not going to matter. I mean they had a season with point Munos. They're still in the back. That's too incredibly talented drivers so I mean if the like I said if they don't have the behind the scenes stuff figuring out like you didn't hire the right personnel or develop the right resources and setups and wind tunnel etcetera this off season that I think they're going to be in for a long season. No matter WHO's driving a car so that's kind of the doom and gloom opinion. I'd love to be proven wrong on that one. I'd love to see if they've made some strides in the off season behind the scenes. But look sceptical naps and as far as the fourteen car and we touched on that. Could non hasn't announcement on Thursday are rethinking thinking. Kanawha full season. Don't lead split the races with them. There's been rumors of Sebastian. More Day may be popping in the C- maybe insert driver here. Somebody that Justin. I never heard of What do you guys think about fourteen? Just feeling I'm feeling like he's probably not going to get a full season and it would be nice because you guys know I always Kinda tend to bowl for him but I just feel like it's not in the cards and and frankly I feel like at this point in his life. He's probably starting to one to spend more time with his kids in and things like that and who can blame him for that. So that's just a gut feeling. We'll see how authorship lays out. I'm very curious to see what Thursday brings especially given the chatter we heard around the AMC paddock about that seat. This past weekend at the Rolex so my guess is going to be. Obviously when everybody is listening to this on Friday. It's GonNa be public news so I'm GonNa say this is the Tony can on retirement tour. He's going to do the ovals and maybe Long Beach in Laguna something along those lines like the the iconic big tracks are going to bring a ton of fans and and that's going to wrap up a outstanding career for Tony Kahn. And then we might see mets favorite driver. Dalton. Kelly get some races. I think that's also be likely I don't know how much funding he brings. But I think that's a strong possibility was enough funding to keep the lights for four or five years or whatever it was so don't need to beat the dead horse. I shared my opinion on About three or four episodes ago she hasn't go listen to that but Yeah I do think I want to go on a legend said. Can I get a full season? I just don't think it's in the cards based on the chatter. We've been hearing all off season so yeah I'm gonNA stick to some sort of part time definitely probably the five hundred for sure but beyond that who knows and then one final question just real quick assuming we have each race. We might have twenty four ish cars malicious narrow down. Say We'll have twenty two full time cars an INDYCAR next year. Where do you think Charlie Kimball is GonNa Finish the championship fourteenth? I was GONNA say Sixteenth. I'm GONNA say Nineteen so I'm going to jot down Jimbo. Mike Sub Fourteenth Sixteenth Nineteenth. Okay and then I did WANNA do one quick thing before we toss it to Mike. Obviously Sunday was a pretty sad day in the world with the loss of Kobe. Bryant and the eight others in the helicopter crashed. I just wanted to give my well. Wishes said anybody who was impacted by that. That crash accidents such a devastating loss of life and it was a really sad events in our lifetime Lot of people were comparing it to other things but to have that Sun. Losses was really sad such wishing everybody well and hopefully we can all. He'll as community here. Yeah very well said obviously. Kobe was a Philadelphia native but the other people involved in college baseball coach his family. It's just really sad. Really kind of was unfortunate Justin. I found out. I think on the trolley back from immediate center out to our car. Which a you're exhausted but enjoyed the race in definitely. It was tough to focus on driving back to the airport after that. So I hope is fam- Kobe's family in everybody. Who WAS INVOLVED? Family is doing as well as they possibly can. GotTa send them all. Well wishes You know it's it's not just the Bryans who were affected but other families were also affected. So WanNa make sure that everybody that was affected friends. Family obviously colleagues. Just you know know that our thoughts are with him and hopefully they can find some peace during this time with that being said we will give some shout outs to team pit lane members. Let's start with Keith. Tyronn.

"Yeah that's a battle of course of a couple this is they did not get itself they work their way for and I'm starting to feel a little bit twenty seven this surprised at how well this last one seventy seven zero so the tires insist they only need to do about another one or so and then they're in that range now as a four star ray so it it's it's incredible I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that this service all told your nation the colder conditions are certainly help things as well but it's all getting in five six laps of that is because Josef Newgarden to the back of the pack with Charlie Kimball just as we saw that's what this race little bit the reason his can you see cars they start what is the year the card the card the trailing car so it's a fine fine art on how you send someone it makes it very very difficult and you need to slow down back on the power as you go through the corners trying in the run on someone around a place like this where you're constantly turning costly turning high eighties a very difficult thing and it can take several lives here the time and I think that's what makes the racing you're so fascinating is that there's no such thing as an easy has to be carefully thought through and it is very difficult just about thirty two secondly market is always going to come to world wide technology Raceway Curtis joins me down here on this race track with his third year the seven it is giving their all and we could not be more thrilled when you look at those rates things certainly seem to know how to example of how it should work without a down day or better than anyone I've ever seen it all comes together it was the title sponsor the race but let's talk about world wide technology and new group coming on board to help you guys out here in the Saint Louis area you know they're bringing so much technology does already great things together and we really make the technology from a world wide technology right there's a lot of good places to watch the race here from the the members enjoy the rest thank you so much our series really enjoys coming here this is the entire team with one recent technology race this is he said that when I just got on the radio and Joseph and the leader of this race and said let's run a little bit longer a little bit earlier we're going to have to come in and start saving fuel so you'd rather stay on traffic and try to make us a little bit of Joe's expected to stop twenty two the radio so far on the radio they didn't come on and or the tires the tires yes complained recently said but that's all we got right now a little vibration so that is a sign certainly of the tires also spent a lot of time in thirty years will stop window will shortly open up so forty one right now if you were to fifty so I think that we can see a lot of traffic and again at Pocono Raceway to use the bed of a short stop strategy to maul his way towards the front and we could very well see the same thing here for you tonight on that last lap it all started basically anyone running just in front of that's what he's trying to do is Joseph just a little bit the White losing seven seven is whatever it is just a little bit Charlie Charlie Kimball running just they work because yeah we that's going to be the key to this window is not in the one again held up by traffic anymore than they absolutely have to so comes up to the back and then struggles to get I wouldn't be surprised to see him because otherwise whoever track time here and let's again what's out percent dean of routine that's exactly what they did at Pocono track position so we are now well within that sort of opening part of the four stop window it was just give me the first time tonight stuff so that's what drives it back one three one it is the thirteenth straight away the card it's so this is what we're gonna see Graham Rahal thing find them under cut so isn't so within the next basically see everyone their first stop in the evening so action during his or her with the just just a little bit and number fourteen he is a slow sixty miles per hour the road again find throughout the course of the evening one of the championship contenders just got on the radio take a little bit of to stop the next PNC plus three on the restart living from eight for the first time change the first thank you for for service next among the contenders will well power has been some of the radio the Roger Penske complaining about a little bit of it's we also see some please stop Ryan hunter right turn for we have a this will this call number for the second time here again the first was market the right this second now is will he said which is the good news the right is destroyed and.

"Consistent sort of schedule where you almost back to the month of may come out of the GP dark horses today, Charlie Kimball back over to you guys. Tony excellent. Job Charlie rolls off middle of row number seven coming up later on today. And one of the more difficult things to do out here is to either just jump in and their differences, here I'm Elliot Castro Nevis, you know, is a global worldwide champion. It's, it's not the same, but for Charlie who has had some raises to sit out. It is not an easy thing to do all of a sudden Tony jump into a car and try to come up to speed much less on qualification weekend or today. I mean that's one of the more difficult things to do. If you're a driver at, and let's talk about a second bit of pressure, there with Charlie Kimball. Patricia ward and max Chilton don't make they got three cars there. One for three. Those are. That's not a good result. So there's gotta be a little bit extra pressure of this is our only shot the teams shot. We gotta we gotta make this go team ownership. I know you jam v tiny cats jam v one seven five ten seventy the fan ninety three WIBC the one hundred third running of the Indianapolis five hundred we are trackside right now. You're making your way to the track the storms early morning storms. They have all gone to the north of the track and out of the way, still some whitening strips in the area that you want to keep an eye on. But you talk to on your show owners. You're you're in with a net group of people. The pressures on if you're in the series, certainly, but the five hundred it's a whole different level of pressure. And you put three imagine if Ed carpenter racing puts, they have three cars. Imagine if Ed carpenter, or only Spencer, picketed qualify. What's interesting about what you just said to is. It's really tough. If, if you're a one off, for example, if you're somebody that's not racing the entire Indy-Car schedule. But I mean if you come in here and you know, you kind of luck out a little bit, because there is a great deal of luck that also you have to counter by winning this race. I mean it is even more special because normally we're not talking about the huge race teams. Normally we're not talking about the huge race teams Charlie Kimble's a guy that's been on the schedule in the past consistently and to have to sit out and as he mentioned, try to get your mind, right? You know, keep working out and in focus from Saint Pete to the month of may end of the greatest spectacle, in racing can be incredibly difficult from him. His guy that has got around. And this place before he's a veteran guy that you trust. But there's a lot that goes into it, and especially on a day like today, where everything looks clear right now but you really don't know what to expect because, you know, you could get some weather it just adds to the drama and not so much the soap opera but certainly the drama of, of this place in what should be a fantastic. One hundred third running Charlie Kimball starts rose seven. He is in the middle of row seven, I wanna ask you about rose six because that's one of the story lines of today, talking about Tonny ram Ray hall Scott Dixon, Kanawha, best time on carb day. Scott Dixon, Scott Dixon, and if I leave out Graham Ray hall, I'd be crazy. That's a row that can clearly move up and challenge, why I said, a little bit earlier to there's some guys that are kind of been flying under the radar and to these guys because of their qualifying position last weekend would be Scott Dixon and Tony cannot, for example, Scott Dixon. I got Nixon, where he is, is incredibly dangerous. For this race. And I mean, in a good way, as far as winning again, here, incredibly dangerous where he is because there's been zero Tony conversation about him, and what people think he should do it has all been with e CR or been with was Padua. What's been with Penske? You know, it's been with Rossi's we brought up there has been zero conversation about Scott Dixon, and I think that makes the Ice Man, just a little bit more dangerous as far as today's racist can serve the one hundred third running of the nap was five hundred later on today in our friend. Matt bear is gonna help you get in once the gates or officially open here in about five minutes Mattie, what up. Hey, what's happening jam? It was Fernando Alonzo who's thirty first she's thirty if she doesn't have to run again, that is what that is a spectacular moments of this weekend. There's a little something for everybody this weekend. So many people can win this thing. We'll get row six, they racial winners. Don't come out of rose. Six but this year, you've gotta believe Scott Dixon, and row, six Tony finan Graham Ray hall that might be the greatest row six I've ever go to eight in my life, you got gotta row. "Mr davis. I understand. There is a another excellent WABC news special coming up debut in tonight at seven o'clock. What's going on? I believe the judgment of excellent to you. Thank you. So it's at seven o'clock tonight. It's called be beating diabetes sweet stories from Indiana. And it's all about what diabetes means in Indiana. Where did where did this come from? What did the idea come from? Why did why did you in the WBZ newsroom decide to to focus on? Well, one reason is because I actually have type two diabetes, and it's been an eleven year struggle for me. And I just kind of wanted to examine what it's like for other people, and it costs the state and actually it costs everybody money because this is something I didn't know until I actually got into this. There's one aspect of diabetes that's kidney dialysis kidney, dialysis automatic. Qualifies you for Medicare? If you go on dialysis that means everybody pays essentially because you know, Medicare comes out of everybody's check. So I if you go on kidney, dialysis you with very few exceptions don't have to pay anything for it. But people who are paying into the Medicare tax on their check doing do, you think a lot of people know what it's like to have this this disease because there have been some high profile cases of it rockstar, Bret Michaels talks about it a lot IndyCar driver Harley Kimball. Charlie kimball. Thank you. He he deals with diabetes. He takes them shot sometimes in his car. I mean, take me through a day in the life of somebody. That's suffers from diabetes. Well, there's two types search type one and there's tight to for Charlie Kimball, which we interview Charlie Kimball awhile back in that interview is in this special. It's very interesting because you talk about his being in the race in the Indianapolis five hundred he's going at two hundred plus miles per hour in that car, and he's having to watch his blood sugar. Her the whole time, and he actually has two bottles in there. One bottle has orange juice one bottle has watering according to what the readout on his dash says about his blood sugar. He can either get some water to help bring it down or orange juice to help bring it up in his dad helped design that system for him. So yeah, a day in the life of a diabetic can be pretty difficult. I mean, even for a type two.

"Com hotline. We welcome into the car driver. Charlie kimball. Charlie how you doing tonight, sir? Good evening, guys. I'm doing really. Well. Good. Good. Yeah. Are you are you are you ready to go? I mean, you know, it's been a long off season. But next Sunday gotta get your bags packed, and at least it's going to be warmer Charlie than where you are. Maybe anywhere is going to be nice and warm hopefully in good weather in Saint Pete. Yeah. It's been a long cold off. I am excited about getting the Saint Petersburg for the Firestone. Grand prix. It always feels a little like the first day of school coming back. Seeing everybody in the paddock from the other teams other drivers and everyone on the support staff and everybody from the series. So it it's one of my favorite weekends. You know, it's it's a great thing. But IndyCar racing is pretty cool. You guys got real real courses? You got the street course, through cities, you got the ovals and everywhere you go you put on a great show, and especially the oval seemed like you come down to nosecone finish or something like that after three hundred miles, whatever. But yeah, you go these cities courses, you don't know what the tracks going to be like, just it's you know, could be kinda rough could be whatever. But it's great to what you guys navigate courses. I appreciate that. It is the thing with street circuit kids, it is a challenge because they're temporary. So each year the build on the racetrack is just a little bit different than how the public has driven on for the year since we were the year before right changed a little bit. Manhole covers new that dumps new things like that. So it's really important for us as a team Thursday morning. We the attrac- walk. So engineers drivers will walk. Around look at video and data from the years before he was different. They've repaved any of the streets or any of the race track? What that looks like and how about a tax it. But the great thing about a temporary street circuit is like you said, you're right there in the heart of the city and the the energy just builds throughout the whole weekend. Amanda, Charlie Kimball. Weather's IndyCar driver. Tell us about your new team. They're road. Charlie. Carlin motor sports. Yeah. Being back at Carlin is pretty exciting. It'll be the team sophomore season in IndyCar. Max, and I had some good results with them last year couple of top ten's here and their top five a up in Toronto up in the great white north. And so the idea coming into our second year. His team has gotten a little bit of a chance to catch their breath after after last year after inaugural season they've been able to do some of the research and development work that they had to do before the season last year during the year, plus taking all that data. And you look at the last street circuit of our season last year in Toronto, and we got a top five. So the idea coming into the grand prix Saint Petersburg kick. Kick off the two thousand nineteen to learn from that learn from the winner and hit the ground running. Now, you guys have to manufacturers Chevrolet and Honda and like NASCAR have three also trying to look for more manufacturers and resurgence of is pretty cool to watch. Do you look for more manufacturers to get in? Or is there by kind of happy with Chevrolet and Honda. Well as a team Chevy driver. I I appreciate the Bo type brand being in the series. But I think it would be great to have a third. Manufacturer. Maybe you're gonna forthright think morally an would be really healthy for the championship. I think then you might see agreed of thirty nine forty forty two Indy. Cars trying to qualify. Need apple aside hundred and then bump day becomes even more dramatic than Amen to that? Now. I guess you got a new baby daughter, correct? That's right. You're you're you're a dad for the first time, which is which is great because my dad jokes now just become jokes. I see I say, so you can tell other other drivers, and you can kind of tell those jokes, and they probably heard them already. Well, most of them for sure. It's been a fantastic journey since October. When we welcome to our daughter, and it is the single gratifying incredible challenging tiring. Frustrating. Awesome experiences in my life so far. Wow. You wrapped up parenting. All all in one sentence there. Charlie. That's pretty good. You ought to write a book. Well, and and that's just in the first four and a half. My niece was six months old. We took her to Kentucky speedway IndyCar race. We had a full blown media credentials and all that we took these little pink headphones, and we walked through the paddock. They were starting to cars up, and I've pulled a headphones offer ears back on and you can see your eyes last like what is that noise? Cover back up to three times. You just see her just the the recognition light up facing she'd been a racing fan ever since she doesn't remember that. She's loved it. Well, I'm excited about introducing my daughter to IndyCar racing this weekend as well. Well, Charlie we appreciate your time man, all the best to you. And Saint Pete and down the road in two thousand nineteen NTT data IndyCar series opener. Now, we just had Alex or junior on a little while ago and j call from junior from the NHRA we tell them each time ending up ending up in interview that when you use the when you call here usually win the next race or the next race after that. So keep this number handy because we want Charlie Kimball to come back and call us as a race winner. There you go. I look forward to calling you back next week after racing their first grand prix, a thanks, Peter. That's right. Then you can tell us about all the manholes and make sure they get the potholes Downer. Charlie makes we got potholes all over the place. You know that they gotta get those potholes cleaned up. Yeah. Right. I think that's the nice thing about Florida weather is you don't have to the freezing in the smell of the true. You're right. But at the same time, we will keep our eyes out for manhole covers. There you go covers down Amen to that. Charlie kimball. All the best to you in two thousand nineteen my man. Thank you very much for calling. I appreciate thanks for having me go you gotta take care now. All right. There we go. Charlie kimball. We thank him. We think j Coughlan junior Paul Jankowski and Alex or junior for tonight's as tonight's guests.
