"Him, but for now here's the show. When I was a kid like all other kids, I had no hair on my bud. And then over the years, you know you get a little hair down there about ten years ago. This is maybe twenty years after I began developing here on my I was going to do this movie going the distance and there was to be seen in the movie that heavily featured my, but it was suggested that I get my waxed and so I did I went. A place I'm trying to remember where I blocked a lot of it out, but I just remember being on my back and they have you put your legs like way up over your head, like a baby, like a baby getting. What was that letter we read without? I can maybe getting powdered and and this woman did it. She did it very with a lot of authority and there is no I was very embarrassed obviously because you have your naked with your legs spread. I mean. It's a very vulnerable position to be in, and so I started talking a lot because I was like trying to like make it normal. You know, I was trying to normalize it and she ripped the hair out and. The because there's so many so much focus on my bide. Lighting it and make up women like putting makeup on awful visual. I wonder if anyone still list. Nick. Could be a dream life. Good. You're listening maybe to life short. I'm your host. Justin Long. Injury, sweet. And with is my Very Harry. Co host, and has the Cortina been difficult for you. Because you can now get your asked waxed. I done it since those squirting started now, almost bad shape. It's like. No I haven't had a forest. I'm and. I, sort of regret having done it because now when I remember seeing the movie for the first time, and because you don't ever really get that great look at your, but I mean, you know you can look at it in a mirror, but how often do you do that? So when I saw, it was strange to see my ass from that angle and and I think show my ass, another moves, but not to this extent. Was it that Harry that? No, that's what I'm saying it was like it really was. It was just really the I don't want to get too graphic, but it was just a part of it is late. Have you seen A. Return of the starlight pit. Kinda like gets. Get. The. All. But what kind of movie do you did? You think you were doing? Well, that's crazy. I forget who suggested I think it may have been I got a gas. Yeah. Shakhman. Oh, maybe it was Shankman Adam producer. It was a movie I did with Drew Barrymore and to ferry funny co-stars. Jason. Today. Because and today's guest Charlie. Day The hilarious. Hairy. Here years, he might I, bet he's Perry. He's the. Face. That's pretty good. Charlie though I've known for years I. Knew Charlie back in there. We'll talk about it. We'll get into it but He's just one of my favorite people. So obviously funny. But just a really good guy. Clarification on that story. By your Harry Asshole. You told not because it reminded me of Charles. Day. But because Charlie reminds you of going the distance better setup yeah, oh. Sorry. Yeah. Speaking of. Our guest today. Is Known Yeah. That's true. It's always Harry and I just thought. Needed a quick clarification, no charlie. Of course, in addition to well known really saw going the distance, but you have seen him in many other things. It's always sunny in Philadelphia, of course, which he's been doing for many years not is and other Juggernaut Pacific Rim speaking of Harry assholes this. Pacific rim. I and he's just he's the bosses. Oh. Yeah. Of course, one onto people know him from. In fact, we were thinking like when we were thinking about a story to tell. We're thinking that have we ever had like a really horrible boss and fortunately neither of us? Well, we've had like, do she bosses and? But. Nothing. Horrible never had a horrible boss. Thankfully, I've had good bosses. Yeah. Me Too. I've been pretty lucky. Certainly movies. I've been lucky enough to work with good either been a few. Of actual boss I. It's hard to say that, why did when I director's I? Guess they're kind of. Boston. But are not like a Boston regular job i. mean we talked about this, but we just directed at movie I. Didn't feel that much like a boss. I didn't feel like maybe we should have felt more like bosses, but I have a hard time even. When. We were doing going the distance assistant names, Anna who was such a WHO loved still love. And Zana I had a really hard time like quote unquote bossing her around I. couldn't I hard time delegating authority to order? Well, I think as near to do I, would say a good boss never bosses people around. Of Yeah, that felt didn't sound right How, do I say this? I had a hard time being boss. Yeah. I guess. So. Yeah I felt guilty, you're guilty to have employees. But. Like with landscaping people, we have like yard people here and I always want to do things. You scurried out the other day to move a chair on the lawn. Yeah. Because I didn't want them to mow around it. They don't do that they. Now, I'm going to sound callous, but landscaping people know how to move a chair, two feet Mo-. "You, you give a baby bird in someone else's hands and you're like, please don't crush my bird. Well, the thing that's tough thing. About just our field sort of emotionally like a, you can be a professional golfer right, and if you shoot the low score for four days in a row, evil knowledge can say, Hey, I don't think you want. Like Maybe, this I don't think you're that great, but like, well, Y-. orborne. Scoreboard. Yeah. Scoreboard. You can make You know you can make. Whatever you can talk Sanderson people will be like the Master Saxon that you and I can both this. fucking. Immaculate. Yeah. I just saw the master on a list of most overrated or like not great. fucking. I would've. What are you? What are you? So you gotta just. It's almost impossible, but you have to remember gear Modell del Toro telling that once which. Doing Pacific. Rim. With him and he was saying he's like the thing is someone's GonNa. Let me someone's GonNa hate by moving has nothing I can do about it. Yeah. But it's hard to actually live that field. I think those are those guys that have a little bit of Stoicism I don't know. But. Like that idea that like you're doing it. I have this is on my posted on my computer at says commit to the work for its own sake. Because like I think there has to be something and then it's for joy I think joy is important. you know I, I, saw I'm sorry. What is it called me? It's not called fistfight. It's called. Despite all I'm sorry, it's called fistfight this. Saw It in the theater it created joy and I? Don't think that's stupid. I. Think it's like. I was talking to j Barrichello is like one of the reasons for art is to make life manageable to make it worth being alive. I. Know It's silly to say maybe, but like we want to create a world that we want to be in an art plays a really big part in that. Even if it is just creating silly joy, I think that I think that matters. I. Have to think some a genius like Eurodollars, their Del Toro has to be like I'm doing what I wanna see, and in his case, I feel like he's doing the dream he had when he was thirteen. Yeah. The nightmare but. Awesome name, but you ever have an awesome nightmare. Nightmare Yeah I've from nightmares before and I was like specifically with skyscraper-tall monsters I was like that was scary when I was in it. But when I think about it, that was the coolest dream I've ever had like, that was really really cool. I don't think I have any surrealist dreams, my dream girl her and. Trying to get the sugar even though somebody has cancer. Yeah. Well we've talked so much. Obviously, I think you can tell I really enjoyed this. Let's just do a little bit of a speed round. To closes out unless you have to go, which is totally within your lights. No I'm good. You're okay. But had the right to go but. I? Like. I'm supposed to your boss everybody like me would be like will I look like a jerk relief like you? We've been talking for two hours. Ville. Duty Love it ninety time Jenner talk okay good. Well, here comes the last part people always laugh because I tag it on at the end. But every episode we talked about the meaning of life we talk about God. Religion a framework for the universe. So I'm not asking you to nail it. I'm just wondering you Charlie, day today how do you feel about Is there to this chaos. I saw on your wikipedia pages said that you're agnostic I'm wondering how you were raised and how you sort of make sense of the miracle of life, the miracle consciousness where we're going what's happening. Raised Heavily Catholic. Catholic in new. England. And you know full believer as a kid I think as time went on and you sort of learn the history of the world against skeptical about. People but I look I've always show about religion like this. I don't know. What the ingredients? are in toothpaste. Okay. I know that there's Floride in there. But I don't actually know how toothpaste works I. Get my word. If someone hurdle me back in time I I, I can tell the peasants in the kings. Hey, we should all be brushing your teeth and they'd be great. How do we do not a clue? How to make things, right. So why me you? Me Plus you identifies as Charlie. Why, why is it on me to know the answer to all things? Yeah. In the meaning the. Let's, let's say free myself with that. I think I'd be much happier in being I. Think. I just I. I will never. No. No one will ever know. And I'd rather enjoy my life than try to figure it out some people get a lot of enjoyment trying to figure out the meaning of all things. But I don't know. I'm not even convinced. Anything is actually happening that there is a reality I. Don't I don't know. Yeah. No I I mean. I was just talking this morning with Iras about how at its core Buddhism Hinduism you strip them down far enough. They sort of have a forgive me Buddhists and Hindus if I'm not representing you correctly, but there's sort of an idea that there is nothing happening. That's what my daughter's name means. Leila means the dance of the universe meaning what you said. Don't take it too. seriously. We're just making TV show saying it's all Leila, is a way of saying this is just a dance. This is just a play of light. It's a passing show. So don't get to up your own, ass. What's funny about what you're saying is. I'm with you. We can't know. That is such an important and fundamental part of of mystery and of religion. What I think is interesting about toothpaste is what's different between the phenomenon of God or awareness. Right? itself is the toothpaste is what's making you operate like you are part of toothpaste sort of that sort of what makes it interesting to me. So while I can't figure out what's in toothpastes because? I, don't work at proctor and gamble or whatever. The thing that's looking for God is God. That's what I think is. So fucking trippy. That's what sort of gives every human being every piece of reality sort of a pass to explore with. Certainty with not certainty. With green light to look for yourself because what what is looking. So if you WANNA say reality is just a play which I'm with you and you want to say we can't. It's what is looking is what what you're looking for is what you're looking with. Saint Francis said. So you you are toothpastes. Which is what makes it fun for me and saying, I don't know what's looking out. My eyes is the perfect place to start. I wouldn't for what it's worth. Wouldn't correct that at all. You're still invited to the to the. Example. That though like Began to feel with religion. Especially when I hear other people try to tell me what the meanings of all things were. That, it was like sitting in a dark closet with a crossword puzzle that none of the questions and none of the answers connect. And outside it's the most beautiful sunny day on the beach and and everything's happening, and then if you spend your whole time in the closet without crossword puzzle, your missle of the day outside. And I just started to feel that way about religion, which is like a shirt whatever you want believe great at it's probably right is probably wrong. Hey. It's a beautiful day outside to go. Limit is I, think it's room me the poet. Who writes all of this beautiful mystic poetry about finding God about being the toothpaste, but he also has that I love where he says. Don't waste your time in the orchard wondering where the trees come from just need some apples. All I'm saying. If I'm trying to be inclusionary. Saying your stance isn't not mystical, not wonder I. would agree with that. Yeah. Yeah. Your stance is gorgeous and participatory and.

"To get up there and singing venison. Someone is the most vulnerable thing you can do that. There's a reason that people respond to that so well. You know and it doesn't stop. Yeah. It's so. So we finally had a nanny, our nanny iris come over. because. We've been quarantining and everybody's taking super serious and we're like, I, think it's time I think you can come by just today, we'll try it. And to see my daughter who hasn't seen another person I, think as a father, you'll appreciate as she was just putting on a little bit of a show. She wouldn't let me put her in the stroller. She wanted to show Iris that she could pick. Danny Lyons and smell them just like the little things that she's able to do and I was like this is what show business is here are strangers. Here's the thing that I've done when I felt safe. Now I'm GonNa do it when I feel less safe to delight you I. I was like Whoa. This is really blowing my mind, but when you talked about timing and when I see your instagram fucking phenomenal, I know that sounds kind of hollow. But I really think they're special to blend really good music with comedy I, see the music in your acting I can feel someone who understands timing when to even the cadence of your voice when to be sharp. Not that you're thinking that way. But this is a funny time to sort of rest rest rest rest. Then the line. Oh Yeah. It's all music scene with making a piece of film. Or. Even a TV show like the editing when you're cutting it, you know. You obviously hope you have a great editor here she. Has. A great serve musicality to the editing, but you're also trying to match it to your musical tastes. So you're like in some fuels off, there's a timing. that. You know I think Robin Glenn Habit as well too I. Think Danny, Caitlyn I. Think it's helped. The show everyone has a little bit enough musicality the. Music I know. I. Think. That's forgive me for being leading. But I felt like we might agree on that. It is all music and even even sports is music. I was watching the Michael Jordan doggy series like all of us and was like there's music to this. This is it's all sort of like one. Thing, it's all creativity. It's all risk. It's all vulnerability. It's all conquering our fears and would you I even you could trace that down to our fear of life itself? Like you were saying, it's hard to leave the world, but music is taking all of that uncertainty and instead of freezing your dancing with it, you're you're participating with surfing his music. It's. It's the same sort of the rhythm of the waves and merging and using. When do I cut into when do I fall and all these different things. Everything is music, but I didn't I didn't I. Don't think I just wanted to mention that I. Don't think it's a mistake that you're so creative. You're so funny is such a great actor, the music. To be the. It's not a coincidence that those things are going. The same time was very nice. You say, I. Think Yemen musical upbringing was essential in that, and there is a point in my life where I wasn't sure if I wanted to pursue. Or disaster than. I enjoyed writing songs so much and. And I think I've gotten away from. Gun Away from. That outlet I think it was vulnerability I. Think it was A. Fear. Of. Failing. At Music Very, safe thing for me to write a funny song and Instagram and much less owner. Right. One. That's sort of sentimental, right? And I think it was the same but sort of pursuing music. I'm a son of two music teachers. So then it's like well. What failed music, you know. Whereas I think too I would just occasionally beat another guitar player because I started a guitar. I'm going to start a ban was a kid, but like. College Play More Guitar Piano. Not, a lot of a piano is leaning against a bonfire and. pull it out of the woods. Now, they were all stone baby grand. Teeth eight. One of the very likes dancing. But I I think. There was some fear to pursue music and still over. There is a piece me. Why wouldn't I ride it album just for people but. The block there I, do too. I did the simpsons. Voice on the simpsons for it doesn't matter and I had to sing in my real voice. Vow was with my wife Al and she. Always wants to get me to sing in my sincere voice, and I'm a guy i. think probably like you. They will do a lot of things for a laugh. But if you're just like get the guitar and Sing Amazing Grace in your most sincere like you're being good at singing voice, it's I. Think it's one of the few blocks I have, which is like I can't do it so. So, for that episode, I had to take amazing grace and I just sang it and she was like just so tickled, not laughing at me. But she was like I, heard you real voice, I heard your voice because I always want to go sad guy earlier. Same thing. Same thing. You want to put those walls up and keep yourself safe in its worst thing you can do for yourself. Is. Definitely, you can do when it comes to art you know. Trying to smash through that fear and just keep putting yourself out there. Yeah. Even, making this movie was very I was attached to it in a way that I was uncomfortable with. I need. Not. I need to separate the movie and my own sense of self were. Do I know I just told the story on another episode, but we just want release these for back to back where I pitched something, and my heart was just on the table that afterwards, I went into vow and I was like I have a vulnerability hangover. I feel so exposed. So fragile. That's what that's what I wanted to see because even your your your I'm sorry, you're saying, was it. Who was the the most confidence sunny voice you're saying? macanese. I'm sure even mcelhinney will do something like that, and there's a part of them. That's like, Oh, no, my throat is so exposed here. And someone could rip it out at and make me break my heart basically when you're when you're in the creative field, I feel like you're having all of these babies, all of these darlings, all of these love affair as and when other people get to like. Unfortunately or or just what we're doing. Leila is invested in what the nanny thinks of her flower picking and I'm invested in what the producers in the backers and the audience thing. There's a real. It's like what we were saying with you. You have the the happy go. Lucky Charlie, but you also have the hypercritical I have the like. Sell to quote Tommy Boy I'll sell a catch obstacle to a woman in white gloves. But what you don't see is after I do that pitch to the woman in white gloves even if she sells it if I sell it, I'll still be like am I am I F for? I, am I am I like nothing am I am am I an embarrassment? You're right. Yeah. Just a sprinkle. I got too bad. I'm glad I don't have that too bad I. got enough things. I don't need another one, but that's so funny. I wouldn't even say I have it as much as when you put yourself out. You just feel it. You feel it psychically. Oh. Sure. Something you care about..

"Knew he could do that. We knew we didn't need Dali's all sorts of things. You know we had a cheap boom to cameras. And like a guy who knew about like white balancing or something, but I don't think we ever properly didn't. Answer the first one was shot. Was Okay not great, and so we tossed it. the Fuck Outta. I. Love this story with I'm about I, I. Love You guys were like, let's do something and then you're like, let's just shoot it. I mean like I feel like that force. Is. Why you guys are so successful and so good, and I can't I'm sorry to slow it down I. Just WanNa save read you hated the first one and you threw it away and like whatever that is, that is the glue that holds together. The LEGO death star of your dream is the instinct ago. I think this sucks. and. Unfortunately I have that in spades and it's a curse, which is like nothing is ever good enough. Really, well, ever good enough I pretty much feel at the end of every sunny so that we blew it. Moosh it, and it takes me about a year to be like, this is actually GonNa Fun, and then I love it. Yeah. But in the moment that always striving for something I, can never achieve terrible. I'm reading this. It's called the good neighbor. It's the Mister Rogers biography and believe it or not. He was the same way he'd stopped production on this pretty. Pretty. Low budget show to like, consult and re writing, and so I was just like I love knowing that even something like sunny. Mister Rogers Mister Rogers feels Albright an easy and like we're just having fun with puppets and your show does I mean this is a common feel like funny people fucking around underneath that is we're throwing this pilot away and A certain. I see two energies, right. You have the Charlie Day. That's like I can't believe I'm an actor. I can't believe you're an actor. Let's be friends. This is amazing. I think it was good I. Think I'm great. I'm GonNa prep this addition because I want to be excellent, and then there's this part that I think you also need the Yang of that which is like I think this might suck because. If you have that, then you're going to just show everyone crap unless you just happen to be a genius guess not. I mean, and I don't remember if it was me or WHO's Rider Glenn? WHO's all collectively? Just we just knew it was off. We. We knew it wasn't so much crap that we were like, Hey, let's never tried to make a show again like there was enough there to be like. Okay. Almost. What's wrong? And then we did it again. the second time around we got in much better shape dot gus. We can actually show people this while. The quality of re shooting something, we did this. You know there's that doritos contest where you make a commercial for the Super Bowl, a lot of young filmmakers and stuff do that. We did that. One of the first year is me and Orrin McCarthy this sort of film group that we had, and we shot one and it was dorito Scotch was was the premise and it's every chip has the equivalent of a shot of Scotch and the guy gets drunk Mateus, and then we're like I think we should reshoot it. It's more Super Bowl Li to make it beer. This is. Is the same situation by by the way friends with cameras location that somebody lent us just just that that. That early energy that we habit you guys have, and we re shot it, and when we reshad it, we made it so much faster. We like every say everything faster because it's thirty seconds everything faster. So it was so much faster than we actually had time in the commercial. You know sometimes after the product screen, there's enough time for little tag a little NB. So it was ten times better for being reshot because we had the experience of watching it and going like. Why are we talking so slowly? Something when you're look like I I imagined. You know I imagine. Wes Anderson doesn't see get to the end moving be like. This like like there are certain people that they've got. Down there style so much and I don't feel that way about sunny. Now. I don't see Saudi Say Gosh. I. Wish we could read whole thing. When you're starting out and you're beginning and you're in that trial and error phase of of what is your voice and what a show is specifically show. Yeah. Just reduce something is. What. What got picked up. What was the difference? Did you rewrite or did you just chain do perform differently? I can't. Remember. It's so long ago I know forgive me this I. Just Watch an interview with David Foster Wallace where they're asking him about an infinite jest, and it's the most uncomfortable thing I've seen because he keeps going. It was. It was seven years ago and and he's sweating and like he can't remember. So I am not doing that yellow straight this when we shot that pilot was twenty, seven, forty, four. Yeah. I think one thing was not to discredit David Hornsby. But David Hornsby played round mcilhenny role. The first time we did it And was going to do it the second time as well. But. had take a trip to. The couldn't move without allergies should round. And it is Boy. It made more sense for WHO's writing for himself in a way yeah. Yeah. I love that. That's like that's like a falling in love story like there's so many things like that. I don't want to go into specifics for the same reason, because I, don't WanNa, hurt feelings. But there were there were many times. The many things that I've done were, what we wanted got shifted because of something like a trap or another job or somebody that we books we were really excited about couldn't do it, and then we're like we'll just give it to this prison, and then it's like it couldn't have been anybody else couldn't have been Al. Pacino, like this is perfect. And that sort of providence stories like desert are dripping with that and I. I. Love It. I'm not surprised but I love it. Yeah. No. Apart, they could mean, who knows you know that's A. Are Meant to be a certain way by David Hornsby you know he plays a character called Ricky cricket. Our show starts out as a uptight priest is in love with D. in that, he just slowly devolves or very season. I was just watching the the state of Virginia. I was just watching man, that's what I said he deterred. and. And he's written on every season of the show to, and he'll land world-class ready starring on our apple show that we have a committee quest. Okay. Dealing with aggressor involved in that, I was involved in the writing of the pilot and then haven't been involved since that. So..

"Like you know he'd be like, have you seen my dinner with Andre or something that you never would've watched and you're like Oh, my God I'm getting school class from this guy. shorted my acting education, which is like. I mean, aside, Williamstown experienced few college classes. I would just go rent movies with. Actors I admired. You know your Hunter Watch. Anything on. Penn? Did ever. and. Just try to try to learn their moves and then At. Definitely would that was the goal for me was to be much more of that type of an actor although I liked. Acting enough that it'd be like, please put me in a Sitcom, whatever just WANNA work. But I couldn't get around. I. Couldn't get arrested in college. Yeah, I was playing like the junky younger brother in third. Watch, of one of the cops. Occurring role I had and. I just I. I can do the commercials I guess, but I just couldn't cook a Sitcom or even a comedy part in a movie. So, interesting and seeing as our conversation started. You have comedy voice. I. Think you know that because you lean into it. There's something just really funny about the way you put sentences, sentences together. You're funny when you get worked up all of this is a compliment by the way. was completely unaware of it. What I'm getting worked up in a scene, you're just getting work done. Just getting worked up in a scene. I. Just happened to sound like a ridiculous human being is so good though it's Jhangvi -able. I mean I think I. Think it's something to be very a proud of unhappy, but that's just naturally how you sound. I'm grateful now that I uh Rear. But that that's so amazing. I'm with you on Sam Rockwell too because I watched there's A. I think it's called I forget what is called, but there's a documentary about galaxy quest that we watched after we watch galaxy quest and they talk specifically about how Sam Rockwell was about to break like he. He didn't really have a break I. I'm pretty sure until then and he had the green mile coming out. Yeah. Everybody was sort of concerned that here's the sort of they didn't know what was going to happen with quest ended up finding this cult following, but they're like Oh my God. There's this like very, it's the same thing with Alan. Alan Rickman, there's this very a serious actor. Is he going to do it like an? Is he going to give it life to put himself behind it and he commits I? Think that's that's the genius of him. In that movies. You're like this guy is not. There's not even a hint of I can't believe I'm in a no disrespected. Tim Allen, but he could have been like I. Don't want to be in the Tim Allen Comedy Right now, but he did he just takes the acting very seriously. I think that was just such a good. Lesson for me as a young actor to do that whether it was a comedy or drama didn't really matter. You gotta play everything like at the drought. Yeah. And you know. Hopefully, the lines are funny when it's a comedy, this timing things, of course with comedy but. And so you don't Su Jimmy Simpson, I lived make all these funny home videos at our apartment in this pre youtube. So these are just for us we. Did that too. Yeah, and. Edited in camera like you'd just be rewinding it and then try deposit on the cut point. Watch it. Yeah Yeah, yeah and the camera. There is a, there's a great movie called safe men that San Rockwell Steve Zahn Paul Giamati Zenit John Hamburg road at a comedy stage crackers. Seem. So funny in that movie in such a subtle way and a lot of there seems because they were saved crackers whispering in the scenes now. And hoping be will think of me a whisper but I'm. Like you know Jimmy and play with that. We could shoot things and we would act out the scenes in trice and really smaller. You know subtler kind of ways of going up comedy and just. It was just such a great way to learn how to do it, and then you're seeing yourself. And you're getting used to look. You know how you sound. But isn't that what we were talking about earlier to is that the situation cracking a safe is a quiet situation explaining, Chicago, in my apartment is a funnier place to Fart, right? Yeah. Yeah. Then add Chili Festival. Like you you were learning. Oh comedy doesn't have to be. And it can be cracking a safe I. Mean. This was Tarantino were similar age when we saw pulp fiction and it's two hitman talking about what they call a quarter pounder. You're like this is funny and it's funny for the same thing we've always done in comedy is because you're betraying type or you're you're you're having a conversation, you shouldn't be having while you crack a safe or your your cold blooded hitman and you're talking about, McDonalds, like there's something funny about situations, and then the actors can play it as real as they want as long as the material is good. And I liked both both styles comedy to because then I love Chris Farley and yeah. I mean, when you saw eastern Tura at high school did not blow your mind wide open of course, and so I remember seeing the preview for Ace Ventura, and now I was already like I, it was like seeing my life. Like? Oh, there's a grownup person because he seemed like such a grownup. Now, you watch these educated. You're like, that's what the what I WANNA do. That's what I was doing in those videos that we were editing in the camera. I'm with you. No disrespect to stuff because when we started talking I've told you that we watched the day man episode. Over and over and over, and if I brought valley and here she could sing I'm going to call it an Aria as you're being lower. Charlie I. Really Hope this can get in your heart because you should feel i. hope you feel good. We rewound. It's like But there's a part where your voice cracks go. Kind of cross that threshold that boys have in their vocal register. But you do it. I'm surprised. I knew it. But I I shouldn't be because we watch it so many times and it's pretty good. You rewound it. Over and over and over and. Not. Fifteen times and it's fucking. Homeland areas every time and it's what we're talking about you found. The most heightened you invited the girl you like to play play is a great place for labs, which is why that episode great is. There's tension I was just talking about why is the office you talked about Ricky, office, and the office in general is so funny is because there's a certain way you're supposed to behave in office, and there's a certain way you're supposed to behave in a theater show and you're betraying it and you're even betraying your own show and I got off into fan town, but it's just like so that's as to me. That's so fucking. We'll speak to that to that moment in in that. You know I think I. Look I owe a lot of that show to all those movies that I was just devouring as a young man. So that dropping down on the sun. That's that's John Brennan tweet lowdown. The Great. Scene where he's terrified. He's come up with this great idea that he's going to descend on this moon and but then he he he is terrified about it. The way he actually gets up quite Larry's Nah. You can buy characters make up in that. That will that's waiting for Guffman. Don't just that. That heavy eyeliner. That S yes. Totally made up certain stage by..

Right Child earphones, but. Jimmy, just. Look sure White Nice and clean up. I'm so glad we're doing this. Thank you. Do you mind if we start recording and? please. Are we due? To. The video of this, go anywhere body. I could pick my nose. Yes. Yes. You're totally fine. what's going on? How are you? How are you today? Well not hang I'm using the earphones. Say by the way I I, always forget sometimes when I do podcasts. You WanNa step annual, warm room. You know you have a meeting or something and you're like, it was warm. This is a warm podcasts I. Think you're great. Thank you just removing the headphones. Made me laugh. Yeah. I wanted to say what isn't true of a lot of us? Are a funny guy. You're just like a naturally. We'd some of us are funny performers. You had that in your life link where people will laugh at you? No matter what. I remember when it was and it was usually the grownups, it wasn't the other kids. And if you got me in front of a parent that I didn't know or a new like a sub teacher or something, I was a big hit with the with the. With the faculty. The students didn't think like I had my friends at thought. I was funny. But like I really swing for the fences if there was like to this day. Something you know, I'm married now too. But like I used to love meeting girlfriend's parents and stuff like that was my my pocket now. Sweet spot. Yeah. Who was yours with with the with the Jilin's you're in Rhode Island is that At any any audience, any since I was going after as of this, just the other day where. I, think to look back on it. I was probably much more. Gregarious and much more like A. Willing or desperate to make people laugh the now, I don't know, I've lost a lot of it. We just talked about that yesterday where I was like I'm not a big pot smoker. But every once in a while, I'll smoke pot and it will take me back. To. The feeling we called it the fire hose feeling where you're like if someone's laughing. All Liquor Dog Durda, and it's not that I have a liquor doctorates. It's like I was just watching sunny and they were talking about eating attorney action one egg. On my mind like when you when you turn it into a career part of your job, and I'm assuming you have a family and all that stuff is to learn how to curb it a little bit. But I think when we were kids, it was so pure. It wasn't for business in the best end. The best laughter and we're guilty of so much of this on Sunday, but when you really not supposed to laugh. National's laugh or something has happened I mean like your teacher is far did and you know. Everyone heard him bar and you know that if you're laughing glass for those those sublime after that's it has. I still remember this is actually I. Don't have. I haven't told a lot of stories I was married when I was twenty two I. Don't. I. Don't tell stories about my first marriage and that's not by design. It's just how it happens to be. But here's what we were seeing a an apartment in Chicago. And her cousin whose name was Mike was like our big fancy in into the city, I don't know if you remember those types of was like. I live in Chicago, I can help you get to play, and so the status like we need to know the status of played, this was the cooler older guy. But looking back I wasn't like the funds. He was just like to us and he was sitting in our window. So he took a cool seat. Sat in the window and he put his leg up and he was sort of leaning on sort of waxing on about Chicago and like where to get the bus bloody Marys or whatever it was, and he let out the perfect like we're in the middle of the sort of diatribe this. Perfect. I, still remember it. Like a very long time ago I remember the. And he just. So quickly, he would. He tried to do with. You just went excuse me and then kept going. But? I was twenty two. There's no I. Mean. We waited from leave, but as soon as he left. We talked about that Fart. For decades. Lie Hope that farts will remain sacred. Funny at throughout the rest of the time I mean I. Hope that we don't get a place where like you know some people can't control their thoughts and we need to be more sensitive about heart shaming are changing. Shaming me, I had a friend who was like, I was going to his grandfather's house for the moon. He was like just. So you know my father, my grandfather can't stop fighting and don't make fun of him and like it was like before we had curb. But if I had, I would have been like, what is this curve? You telling a fifteen year? Old Kid dilemma departs I feel I think we'll be okay I. Hope we'll be okay because farts on this podcast, we always ask the guest, the hardest time they've laughed, and it's usually a fall or a fart and to to your point. "Living Libations is the finest and best and most effective skin care products. I have ever found in my life. It was a couple maybe four or five years ago. Maybe more than that. Actually I realized I'm very mindful of what I put in my body when it comes to food. But I realized that I wasn't being very careful about what I put on my body. I would buy shaving creams and face washes that I thought were fancy and good because they were expensive and French or whatever. But actually they were made with chemicals that we all know are linked to disease and toxicity, and just never intended for humans. So I, realized I want to eat food where I recognize the ingredients and I didn't even know until I found living libations that that was a possibility for my skin care as well. But it is I started with their ginger exploiting scrub. Ingredients you recognize and it is the most bad ass. Bullying Scrub have ever used I'd put it up against any willing scrubbed that you get at the pharmacy. It is more powerful than that. It's got more grit gets more stuff off your face, and it is incredible before you shave I'd say it makes your shave ten times. Smoother is a huge huge huge factor before you shave also just a great way. Way To clean your face made with plants and oils and extracts that I recognize, and it's real and it's natural. It's wonderful and it works speaking of Shaving I. also use their shave, which is so clean and natural and moisturizing. You can actually use of it. When you're done shaving as an aftershave, they also make wonderful aftershaves, but zen shave also works as an aftershave because it's so clean and natural. Anonymous, Neon Blue Gluten Goo. I'll have to go with nicotine language to go the the game with the dog speaking getting all right well to bring you the correct answer. We spoke to someone who's actually involved in this new kind of dog training. We invite people to come to central park to teach their commands in tow back the executive director of the workmen's circle the largest yiddish training program world which is teaching dogs Yiddish congratulations kyle. You got it right the way that you're not teaching the dogs to speak Yiddish teaching the dogs to understand. I have a question Yiddish dog play Kavech. That's a good congratulations. You were right. You're playing take care of a dog is still a man's Smith Yeah and now the game where people who've done really well in just about everything. They've tried to see how long they can keep that going. It's called not my job. Charlie only day was just another under employed actor when he and his two friends rob and Glenn made homemade video about three guys named Charlie Rob and Glenn who stumbled around life is being generally terrible to each other that video got picked up and made into a Sitcom. It's always sunny in Philadelphia which is now the longest running live action. Sitcom in the air fourteenth season began this week Charlie Day welcome to wait wait. Don't tell me where are we finding. You're finding me huddled in a corner of my house hiding from my dog and my child and and trying have to find the quietest place I could be. I appreciate that your dog and your child looking for you. Okay well. We'll we'll. We'll do this quickly so so that we can get you out of here before they do capture. Take your time all right for people who haven't seen Oh. It's always sunny in Philadelphia and there aren't a lot of them left. It's been it's been so successful for so long. Can you describe the show no Sir I cannot I I. It's pretty indescribable. I guess it's a show about watching terrible. People do and say terrible things yeah. That's about it. I mean if you thought thought Seinfeld was about a group of people who were generally kind of unpleasant. It's like cranking that up to twelve was that how did you say to yourself. Let's just play characters. Who are the most awful awful people we can think of pretty much it up. I think I think we thought that would be the funniest thing we find terrible behavior amusing yes yes. My understanding is you. Just shop this thing with your friends in l. a. one day because you were bored and you came up with it. No that's true that's true. I mean we're looking entertain ourselves but the one thing you got wrong is the other two guys did change their names and I just kept my name the same I was smart because now I walk down the street and people don't Yell Kramer at me hissing. Have you ever because you also write the show and produced the show in improvised. Show with your your friends. Have you ever come up with something like that so awful. You can't actually Lebron yourself to do it on camera. Even even pretend I certainly wouldn't say it in front of a large audience and people but there have been meetings where somebody said hey how about if the gang does this in the works at each other and horror that sort of thing no not so much because usually we get excited and we'd say okay great now. How do we make that's funny can you. This is a terrible thing to ask any performer artists but I'm going to do it anyway. Can you explain the show's success because it hilarious how awful these people are and the conventional wisdom in television. Is You want people that people can enjoy can admire can lake aac never been driving on the side of the road and slow down to look at a car accident. I think there's something to that which so you just say. I can't believe I'm seeing that. I can't believe I'm hearing this but I have to stop and look I understand. I wanted to ask you about something. There is a museum of you as they say on the Internet that I'm sure everybody has seen it. Is you standing in front of what I guess. We might call them out. Conspiracies this blackboard. Beth right so that assume came from an episode of it's always sunny right that is the pepe Sylvia meam and there that's from an episode from which I've I've taken a job in the mail room and I'm going crazy and I'm getting letters for the name. Pepi silly and I think it's a big conspiracy and I try to crack the code but some fans various have put together that because my character can't read pep pace. Sylvia might be Pennsylvania on the male but actually I don't think I think it was just a funny name for gotta go crazy about like their theory better and so he but it has gotten to the point point where anytime especially on twitter if somebody is making fun of somebody they will put that Jif of you like to indicate crazy conspiracy theorist. Very proud of it are you. I like it immensely. I conspiracy theory that he's behind yeah. I wanted to ask you one last thing about this show and this is something I love. I was watching an episode just the other night. The mature Character Charlie has this mad crush on this waitress who has nothing to do with Charlie treats him with contempt and discuss well. Well has a crush on one of her friends and I found that is in fact your wife. That's correct right and you met doing and even weirder roll together right right well. No we did play incestuous twins. One sort of wait a minute. I just say you met doing even weirder. Roll your response. That's not where we met but that was our idea. cavs thought you were saying that wasn't a very unusual relationship. No not in certain parts of the country but yeah that would do. Does your wife enjoy getting regularly to play someone who hates you. Yes very much very it takes her work home. She's really sometimes onset doing that bit and you're like she's getting a little too zoo into this bird line yeah but like a method actor that's the problem. I understand. Would you recommend for other people who are in marriages and want to keep them healthy not just our regularly like plaque like one of them just load the other and treats them with contempt. I think a lot of people get a lot of practice at that all the time. You're not that unusual well you. You just get paid for it. That's right well Charlie Day. It is a pleasure to talk to you but we have invited you here to play a game. We're calling. It's all connected. Don't you see so as we were discussing you are famous for that mean indicating craze conspiracy theorist and now it's often used to make fun of conspiracy theories so we're going to ask you about some more obscure conspiracy theories that we were able to dig up answer two out of three questions and you win are priced. Christ one of our listeners the voice of their choice on their answering machine bill. Who is Charlie Day playing for Tom Jones of Archer Florida all right Tommy here we go. Are you go. Here's your first question. You probably remember the ice bucket challenge the thing we're a couple years ago. People were dumping buckets of ice water in their heads to raise money for research conspiracy. Theorists interests say it wasn't really for charity. Though what was it a secret campaign by the bucket lobby to sell more buckets a ploy by the Catholic Church to quell sexual desire all over the world or see satanic ritual meant to purify people before human sacrifice well. I went to Catholic school growing up so there's a lot the people suspicious about the Catholic Church. I think we're all finding out why you're GONNA go for B. They believe it's employed by the Catholic Church to limit sexual desire by tricky people in the Nice one yeah no it was the satanic ritual but I think if the Catholic church is listening. They might WanNa go this way because nothing else is working all right still timur chances. You're totally not a problem. You've heard of the aluminum body. That's the shadowy cabal controlling the world. We told told you this is the last meeting. You're not supposed to say epic. Apparently it is there's a shadowy cabal controlling world events but you may not have heard that what what is part of the illuminates evil schemes a the TV sitcom saved by the bell the public radio show thistle and shamrock. Mike's hard lemonade I mean I love the idea that somehow Mike Sharpe rap. I gotta go with that one. That's fun and how exactly would Mike Card. I know but I I just I want it to be wanted to. Even though I'm broadly hinting that it isn't you're going to choose it anyway. Okay all right craft. I just saved by the bell yes. It was saved by the bow. I don't know if you enjoyed that ninety Sitcom but apparently charlie it was projecting a lump illuminate propaganda to the world lead character graduates goes to Yale Center of the illuminating. That's how you know all right last question if you get this that's right you win. There are lots of conspiracies about things that we think are real but the conspiracy is they don't really exist. We've been fooled which of these things are believed by conspiracy theorists to be entirely fake a JK rollings. Harry Potter be the country of Finland see the moon. Oh well you know. A lot of people are probably not trusting that moon up. They're suspicious right. Why's it been sometimes rise it fully let's go with the Moon. Well you're right but the real answer is. All of them all believed to be baked conspiracy theorists just a you know. Jk Rolling is a front a pseudonym for a group of writers. No one person could do all that. Finland was invented by Russia and Japan for reasons of their own and the moon is a Hologram now you know I never trusted Finland. I know really bill. How did Charlie Day Newark Wiz two to three. "You ready to play what to do it all right. Here's your first quote. I don't know if I'm I'm the most innocent person in the world. I was somebody who we found out. This week is quite far from being the most innocent person in the world. Who is IT DONALD TRUMP DONALD trump at figured it out what a fun full-week for Donald Trump. Was He signed a treaty. He said the Nobel prizes rigged against him he got to sleep in his race car bed back at trump tower and he ordered the release of a document proving an impeachable offense says he doesn't work hard so whistleblower accused news the president of trying to blackmail the president of Ukraine into doing a bogus investigation of Joe Biden so the president said he would release a rough transcript of their call hall which we all assumed would just be a sheet of paper with the words you are best president Mr Trump but no they act shirley released what seems to be the real thing and it shows the president doing exactly what he is accused of and he said It exonerates me. What I love is that he he doesn't know how to respond to the accusations of quid pro quo 'cause he thinks it's like a seafood dish dish talking about Tony Fish now finally Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House announced on Tuesday that she would support impeachment hearings but if you saw it her remarks like weirdly halted and awkward for such a momentous occasion and it turns out and this is true that she had written out a speech in advance but then she left it on a plane that's all true so she had to improvise remarks and maybe didn't do a great job even worse think of the poor insurance exact who grabbed the wrong piece of paper and unjust impeached his boss but yeah it was really Nice About Nancy. During that speech was that her skin was glowing. Oh yeah she should impeach people more often for her really does yeah. That's the centuries old impeachment they way Thomas. Let's move on. Oh No yeah Thomas. Here's your next quote. It's from a sixteen year old girl speaking at the UN. This is aroung. I shouldn't be up here. Honestly we'll be back in school on the other side of the ocean. Her name is Greta Tune Berg and she is really mad about what the plan getting warmer climate change exactly right. Kunert become a leading global climate accuracy. He spoke the UN this week told the UN that she shouldn't have to be fighting climate change. She should be allowed to be just a regular teenager why would she she wants that you think being bullied by the fossil fuel industry as bad try. The popular girl and the climate change change deniers really went after her. It was remarkable to watch. They said she was just doing her parents. Bidding which is news to anybody anybody with a teenager. Yes I will convince my sixteen year old daughter to make herself the face of an international movement right after sure. I get her to tell me where she's going. Friday aware that to the UN but my money's on her. I think that she and Bill Belichick should have a glare off. Oh man there was an amazing little sort of S- a couple of seconds of tape because president trump happened to walk by her and her look on her face they should create a phone app that whenever you do something irresponsible idle your engine her her face appears staring at you that way greg came to the US on a solar-powered sailboat across that's the Atlantic so as to lessen her carbon footprint and that's why the Republicans were so upset. We thought she was one of us. She took a yacht here. What what wh wh who gave her an electric car though Arnold Schwarzenegger Arnold Schwarzenegger gave her an electric car seats you could drive up to Canada to do whatever things you do in Canada and in so doing she kind of made him seem cool like I didn't know. He had an electric car that he could lent planted Greta. What's what's crazy is. He threw it at her all right. Thomas here is your last quote. Don't use jewel that was a warning about jewel J. U. L. That's the company that makes very popular vape pens the warning comes from the CEO of what company jewelry yes very good. We're in the middle of a crisis. There are apparently two kinds of teenagers ones who admitted they vape and ones who don't answer the question because they're vaping so now we have a backlash to all this vaping because reports of serious illnesses some states have banned e cigarettes and Walmart has said that they will stop selling them in all of their stores so sadly kids shopping at Walmart. We'll have to settle for actual cigarettes and in the midst of this the CEO of jewel. That's the biggest company stepped down. He'll be replaced by an interim CEO. A fourteen year old wearing a backwards bulkak in our reforms being made a jewel and other companies say they won't offer anymore flavors that kids like such as cherry and mango into distant father's love this happened with every new technology like I'm sure like the eighteen seventies it was like a rash of terrible bike accidents since they must keep our children away from the devil bicycle through four true. Yeah you think crack would've had mangle. Ah Wait crackers Pango flooding even making it wrong yeah. It's my mother's recipe bill. Thomas doing are equipped to a good start. He got them all right. Congratulations you and right now panel time for you to answer some questions about this week's News Roy Japan Airlines has introduced a new service Chris for their passengers. You can pick a seat. That is what dry it would be terrifying. If that were an option. I'll give you the trick. Is You pick your seat is to both far away and up wind from the diaper not too close to a small child. That's exactly right to pick a see far away from babies so when you go to your check in on your Japan Airlines flight and you go to the seat map look for the little happy baby icon on the seats which indicates the presence of a little miserable baby. Don't don't sit on that one. Do you feel about sitting plans are to the lady who just birthed one of those small. I know my baby. I'm not trying to brag but like she's pretty dope like she's like pretty chill on on a plane. She's nine months. I will say though that we had a pooping incident incident. That was at pick. This is what happened the baby everything's great the baby doesn't cry the baby's anything for five hours and traveling with the dog dog and grandbabies Pomeranian Furry Little Guy and the at the end of the trip okay twenty minutes left to landing the plane. Lane has some turbulence which makes the baby nauseous baby. Vomit projectile vomits all over everybody the the person who gets it. The most is the dog the dog Ed goes into the ISO at does what dogs do oh aw poll like a bloody murder and anyways. We laughed and laughed. I'm I'm just trying to imagine what the little icon is for that the airlines coming up we turn to the dog whistle blower in our bluff the listener game call one aaa wait wait.

"And now my favorite part of the show the fact check with my soul mate Monica Batman when the moon hit sure. I liked a big piece of Pie that Moore is it a big pizza Pie of course could also be a big piece of Pie. Italians aren't known for their pie so much I mean I guess pastries but Nah that's more French colons pizza pie for sure so that's a stereotypical Italian Song Yup and I I sang it in response to having saying stereotypical Asian Song before we knew that was that couldn't be included in this because that's not nice to make fun of all. I'm allowed to make all the white people I don't want. I don't want you to make fun of anyone. Why ause making a phone people? There's a phone you know. What do you think it says making fun? Fun is in the thing it's fun for the person now for the person receiving not the person on the business end of the farms so speaking of that I was at this wedding and and this person I haven't seen a really long time came up to me and gave me a very very heartfelt apology apology. You're kidding yeah. There was an incident years ago where friends and were curious. If you could do the in the generic INDIANAP- exactly glee and then they ended up while they were shocked you Conan and then they went on to say like Oh. It's so easy you just doing yes and then they have since lived in deep deep shame over having done that they have he was like I've been thinking about that for for years and he works with students. It said like I would hear other people doing that to other people and I would immediately be like you can't you cannot do that. You do not know what that is doing to that person. Anyway it was so kind and sweet and I of course was like you gotta Let yourself off the hook for that because that is it's okay okay and it clearly impacted you a billion times more than that event impacted me for this goes back to what we talked about. Once before I would almost think the worst part of being isolated for those things is not the being made fun of then having to comfort the those people's guilt so so. It's so layer so layered because you don't like the thing happening but then you're also just like oh my gosh I have to act like I like it so that everyone feels comfortable. Most of that your cool you're cool with Kazan. If you do say hey that kind of makes me feel shitty now going to be shamed in the moment exactly and then it's uncomfortable and awkward for you. Yes yes yes so you just have to laugh and be done with it and and yeah do your best to make them feel comfortable so that it is is a layered not fund situation can be but anyway so that happened and then there was this apology and it was very sweet and I hope he feels it's totally free. He's one of the nicest people I've ever met that need to hold onto that and that's where like look each individual gets to shoes whether or not they want to evaluate intention. I'm not telling everyone that they have to evaluate intention. If there but you know for you in that moment is very we neither neither of those guys were Dick's at a party going like Oh gouzer started dancing around like being intentionally cruel. They were just out to lunch on how insensitive yeah yeah because if it was a dick let's see it had been a dick in the in the person was trying to make you feel different in the navy apologize. You probably go. Thank you because that really hurt and felt really awkward like you might give it back to them. I don't I would hope I would but I don't know if I would. I think you get trained to make that as little of a issue as possible and then because you also start feeling like Oh God had I overreacted you. Start making it like Oh my God now everyone's upset and it's because I overreacted but Jeez Salat. I got a little selfish during that story of I'm just totally honest with you. It just occurred to me. I was like why someone apologize. Oh my well well. Here's out I was like Oh. I don't know what it's like to be you completely other in a situation yeah so it started in kind of an altruistic thought process and then I was like you know someone someone does oh mean apology. I apologize to you. Yes you and I have apologized to each other quite often. I do think I don't feel bad for myself but okay I do think when your self expressed like I'm a leader and I'm Alpha up sitting around worrying too. Much of my feelings. Were hurt understandably Nibley so like I've kind of stuck out this identity where it's like don't worry about me. I'm fearless and I can't be defeated right and so it comes with a bunch of benefits told total one of the downsides is occasionally and that's actually one of the Times you apologized to me as I was like Monica is still have feelings and if you are joyous when I lose a Kinda hurts my feelings but yeah of course you wouldn't worry about me because I've kind of I'm projecting this identity floor. I'm not one that needs protecting. That's interesting. I worry about your feelings all all the time you do but I didn't worry about them. In that case you're right. It was a power thing sure I think because in that specific typic- case I was rooting for our friend who at that time was like new is to the group. I wanted her to feel happy. During this game you were in charge of the group so you know right. I said the I invited all the PM. Are there yeah so I felt like I was doing that and you're Ri- those are all reasons why it's totally fine for you to celebrate when she wins suit yes and no yes. Those are real reasons but I should have been aware that you wouldn't like that yeah. I guess I realized that the other day yeah I actually was around a CO worker who also very kind of a leader uh-huh and I think I might have noticed a moment where she deserved an apology and then it Kinda could just see that person's not gonNA apologize because they're not worried about her like confident lent self-esteem seen her in this very specific light which is like a leader and I it just crossed my mind. I'm like I bet not many people ever worry about her and or apologize Elgin Yeah because she's such force. It's also what you're putting out not not to like diminish what you're saying or blame blame you for this but like I am outwardly I'm vocally sensitive and it's something that like gets called out sometimes sometimes by you and it's like something to work on bright so selfishly motivated. 'cause I just hate. I hate how I feel. When I hurt your feelings? Yeah I know yeah. I know that so that's like the stance like I am sensitive to things and if you're the person saying you're sensitive to things then it's hard hard for them to get get turned around I can I can say plainly I can't have my cake and eat it too. I recognize that no one's sitting sitting around worrying about me. They're like you're set you got money. You have a good career your big one of my worried about it rightly so it's totally justified. It's not but occasionally it'll just cross my mind like when when I hear that story I just tried to imagine someone coming up to me and saying I feel so bad. I've just never I don't think of have that experience yeah well. I was thinking about your feelings a lot on our trip to Mac yeah. We just went on a big group friend amazing amazing. It was so fun. I'm so sad to not be there still me too yeah. We had so much fun but there was a coppell moments comments on that trip where I felt like I mean everyone was drinking a lot. The hall and I just started to feel like this is a nice to be doing. Oh no that never bothers me. No it doesn't but even though I know it doesn't I feel way worse. If people weren't doing what they WANNA do for my Sake Lena like you know never wanted to be a drag on somebody that would be a one more pain no but also I don't know I just felt like specifically on this one for some reason throws like everyone's drinking and drunk and and what like then Dax just standing there and this can't be fun. I cannot be fun. That's really what I would just like. This cannot be fun for him at all and anyway. I'm sorry your feelings get hurt sometimes. Oh it's totally fine. It's totally fine. I like I said I can't have it all. I can't can't be WANNA be seen as some way doing all these things to promote that and then we bombed. I'm not also seen as Bambi when I WANNA be you. You know what I'm saying. I do know that you're allowed to do this. Crosses my mind sometimes yeah okay. I have some pretty the devastating news for Rob Not Lobby Lob Bravo Yeah mcilhenny yes. What is it so his his theory about Mac and MC? Oh Oh is according to the Internet not oh. This is great news for me. Is I really don't say maybe you'll get a tax. I know afraid a few different places said that's a common misconception because when what's he saying that like one Scottish Irish they're using if there's a vowel after AMC. It's Mac mcilhenny McEnroe. There's a consonant it's Mick Jagger Mick Jagger's. NYC K. OH sorry bad bad example McDonalds McDonalds. If it's a continent it's M. C. and if it's a vowel it's Mac and that's because of Scottish and Irish or why there was there a reason okay okay then. This isn't devastating okay so I guess he's right. I don't know and I believe him yeah. Yeah he's smarter than us. I don't know a unified school. No okay then I can't. He can't approve it once you get that Jesuit education. You don't really need to go to an Ivy League school. Okay got it got it. It would be mick mkx gotTa Lane but Mick Steamy Mic Dreamy Donald's yeah and if it was Mickey easy. It'd be Mac easy eighty if there was one of the characters on Grey's anatomy that was easy save a guy. He's really easy to get in bed. He would be Mac easy. Okay mic easy okay. Also why was now that I'm thinking about it. Why was his name MC dreamy because his name was Derek Shepherd Bird? Oh my youngest one of my relatives I now oh my God yeah. They should've called the mic Dax really confuse everyone so I wonder whether they even got that me to remember. I used to love ashes so much. I still get all my music from there. Were you more attracted to mix steamier MC dreamy to do you think pick dreamy yeah yeah but I'm friends with MC steamy right yeah so I kind of wanted you to vote for him. If you know my my aw.

"Yeah it was still a good experience for me so I don't know what we learn. What an exactly? I don't know what to learn. What I've learned is? Tell me what I need to learn what I need to know right down in a little piece of paper and here's what I've deduced finally is the things that I hope that succeeded when they succeeded the thing I thought that was coming next never came and the things they didn't want to do. Lead led the stuff that I ended up loving. So what I've learned is that I have no barometer of. What's good or bad for me to do? I think there's a there's a certain I don't know if it's a pressure something that's attributed to us as performers as if we have some sort of crystal ball to know how this piece of paper is going to the turn out how it's going to be receiving the world whether or not anyone involved has a personal scandal in their life. How on Earth are any of US thirty second commercial where they may exactly the but the reality is we really just have one job to do which is to do our work as best we can as responsible as we can and the rest of it is completely the out of control but it's very hard emotionally and psychologically because it's your name? It's your face. You know you're being out there in the world and someone's Lear Ego Dax Shepard Charlie days the worst actors read that and you're like Oh true thank you can't you can't remove yourself unless you're psychotic from a statement like that that so it's difficult but there's no way for us. We really if we're really good. We would just be like I just do the thing I go and do another thing. Doing the thing is the the experience and then whatever you guys make of it. That's up to you. Oh you're doing it with. I think most importantly you all my working think what does that collaboration going to be going to the learning grow from this. I don't care where it goes or what what it does because I have no control over right and again I would argue on your deathbed. You're not going to be telling up opening opening weekends. You're going to be thinking about the three months you made the movie yeah regardless of the outcome so reflect on that one of the things that I'm most proud of the work that I've I've done worthies hundred fifty stupid home movies I made with Jim Simpson in that apartment down there and in New York City when we were roommates we would just run around this he had vhs camera and then after he did the movie loser with Amy Heckling he had enough money to buy a little digital camera and we would shoot these dumb little things pre youtube some put them anywhere they we weren't trying to get ahead with them. Bright trying to make each other laugh and we were trying to learn sort of how we performed on Camera Mariah so you saw what your face did and the tragic case of my voice what my voice did he learned okay. This is my sound like this this is this is what works is what doesn't work yeah but but I had so much fun like those probably two thousand you know running around with that guy and my friends making that stuff. That's why Robin Glen came to me and say hey. Let's make thought was funny because you make stuff. Let's make stuff together. It's kind of the thing and then you wish you could make your feature films that same way with that level of control. You know you don't have to get the rights to any of the music killer part yeah. That's awful so back to sunny really quick so you go into it. I can't imagine your expectations were crazy high financially you just doing it because you really wanted to make stuff. I just want an opportunity to really just act when they affect said to us that you guys are going to run it. You got to write it. I mean I remember rob writing. Oh he was writing. I think the episode where we get high on crack and I was taking the episode. Where are we go to abortion rally to pick up girls version? That's gripped on a yellow legal pad at the Astra Diner in Silverlake like Dennis says this and then under that line and then later brought it through our we typed it up. I didn't even own a computer till season to really yeah. You would always always write by hand. I wasn't really aspiring writer at all. You know I was just I thought it was gonNA be Dustin Hoffman or somebody I was like I'm going to be this great actor right right and that's what I was working to take you to own the lane. You're in like to go okay. I'm now comfortable trouble. Doing this and I am finding that I didn't do that or is that still nag you know because I don't think I really see the efforts new yeah I mean I think there is probably a a big difference between it's always sunny in Philadelphia in the graduate but not me you know to me we are making the graduate over and over and over again. Are we are making the great next work that will be passed on and passed around and I think that's just navy tape. I think I just was just happy to work so right and then a horrible bosses was I was thrilled to be in it so it was a great opportunity. Although you know what I almost passed on that movie should've been psychotic why because Ben Stiller was producing movie called gone in thirty seconds or something that Jesse Eisenberg did bright and I I remember I went in and I read with Z's a couple of times because he was playing the role and Ruben Fleischer is directing it and I thought it was great script and I really wanted at that. I mean so I was very fortunate that I didn't get that part and that I you know 'cause Jessie was fine. He had a movie career right. I needed one your it kind of came and went but or wessels it so at that was just dumb. Luck that I said okay. I didn't get this. I'll I'll go to that yeah so this'll be anticlimactic as you already told me you're not obsessed with money but I do just want to know the moment. Were it occurred to you at some point. FX has got to tell you like so guys that is show is actually generated a bunch of money and now you're going to get a big check. Yes remember that moment and it was it hard to comprehend. Yeah I mean I I won't be clear. I'M NOT I. I like money. Not some great I I really like money. I just wasn't worrying worrying about it like in my twenties because I had enough in the bank that I was like hey I can do commercials forever but no I grab Glen and I were very focused on how to get the money from. FX that we felt we were worth so we were sort of aggressive in you know sort of how we were building building our back end and how we were trying to get them to actually pay us so yeah yeah savvy savvy. Although I still think all three of US still probably feel like you you know the time. Don't you have the feeling like if affects finally says okay. We'll pay five dollars that means. They had twenty five dollars than they were GONNA pay. Ah Yeah. Probably you know so. There's you can't let that go. I mean we had a pretty crappy meeting with our agent at one point where this was deep deep in the show season six season seven where he was breaking down some numbers for us and he he looked three of us in the eyes and he said guys in great success. If we keep this going you could each walk away way having made one million dollars and I know a lot of people at home that sounds like a lot but in the TV world in the world and you know if you're like look I've made the longest running running Sitcom in the history of television here should be more than north of a million south of a billion thinking walk walk away money. Obviously you said you're crazy. We're going to make a lot more than that. I don't even know what I don't know what that guy was thinking in that meeting yeah did you guys fire him ultimately as move to USA where we stuck our foot down and said we've we've got to make at least this to feel as though wasted our lives. I'm just saying there was a point where at least you got paid some significant thing. It was just like Oh wow that it was a robin I and Glenn with a Whiteboard doing a lot of calculations and arguing with our representatives about which would be this tonight. Okay then give us your packaging fee and all sorts of things we were way ahead in the game and that is the reason everyone's fired. Are there other writers via you guys were the one on the first to go whitewater earth. Are you guys by the way I see we but it's so rob I mean look at me and my settlement settlement behind certain agents said well you know I I just think differently and I think it's you know they wanNA break down a look at the whiteboard and I'm like like why are we doing this. Let's just pick the number that I could live if I never made another dime on Sunday but I made this yes and let's say okay. Let's go that and then when they say I know we'll say well. We'll take half right right right. Okay a third then that's fine. I guess the only thing I'm building up to is there is a point in your life. Were you move out of wherever you're living and you get to go buy a house that you would really really want and you get to have some real security and that's a pretty profound cool. The rare experiences right is a game changer. I had to get married to someone to get that so as a matter how you get it but when minority bosses comes out and a huge hit the other thing I would think you'd have to be conscious of managing is the three of you I started out is completely anonymous and you guys get varying credit for the show itself as it becomes successful and and then when one guy goes up becomes a movie star. I have to mention even everyone's healthy. You're in coldplay and you're sharing all the revenue still that's that's a new dynamic for everyone to deal with isn't and yet well look. It's hard to now. I guess when when you're the poorest people were cool about it he now people you're the reason we've lasted. As long as we've lasted is rob and Glenn Caitlin and Danny are all really good people there. They have their feet on the ground. We fight all the time but the fights are always about. How can we make this show the best thing that can be and has never been the sort of ego? Oh fights and you know they got an argument this year over something but we I realized I said I'm after like D realized that we're both upset about the same thing is that we're trying to figure out how to properly manage time you know but we're just saying in two completely different ways like a married couple realized you're you're having the same point of view and found a way argue about it but you're right but they were good about it. I I don't know the Eh they were. They were very very have any kind of like guilt over it either. I'd little bit. Maybe like a little concern of like. I hope no one is holds us against me but they they didn't enter. I don't think I certainly maybe I don't go around lording putting it over anybody and it was pretty easy so they watch some movies and then not get movies was was. Is there a moment though when things were really going fantastic that you're like. I don't know that I WANNA have to carve out time for the show sure because this is a new adventure. Anything new is going to be fun. There's novelty in movies because you're you know you only do it for three months and that's exciting because the one thing I want to commend you all on his that unlike many bands. You seem to have the wherewithal to go like this is a very rare thing. This is a one percent of the time you get on a show. Oh that lasts even seven seasons and now did you guys are in thirteen or fourteen or fifteen or something to have the wherewithal to go like no. Let's not let's not forget who brought to the party. The and let's keep this really magical thing alive. I think is really admirable. I think for me it's hard to say maybe if all of a sudden Paul Paul Thomas Anderson and Scorsese and the directors that I love it admire you know my phone was ringing off the hook..
