"I saw somewhere last night online. That charlie crist a opportunistic textbook empty suit of a politician. If there ever was one he is now a head of ron disentis. One of the finest governors in the country. Charlie crist is supposedly slightly ahead of rondo. Santa's in a hypothetical matchup for governor in florida. You're not gonna hear charlie. Chris say things like this. Here's run to santa's taking on the lawless by demonstration ministration and the befuddled Out to lunch joe biden. You want to hear what a leader sounds like. I don't wanna hear a blip about cova from you thank you of course under attack. The left hates this guy and you know why they hate him. You know other media hates him. 'cause he's gonna be a force to be reckoned with in the years ahead rhonda santa's with some clarity on the masks for kids rhonda santa's shane parents get to decide. If you wanna mask your kid up when you send them off to school knock yourself out. You're not gonna let anthony fao. She tell you what to do. More of rhonda's sanchez yesterday in florida. We think it's really important that parents make decisions about whether kids go to school with mass or not so. If certain parents feel that they want their kids doing that. We're not gonna prevent that. We have a lot of parents including me. Who doesn't think that's healthy for our kids to be wearing masks all day and i know people joe biden think the government should force kindergarteners to sit there under these mass for for six seven eight hours a day. I could just tell you. Laura in florida last year in our school districts we had some that had mass requirements others. They didn't the ones that didn't those counties had lower per capita cases than the ones that did and so it's not proven to really impact viral transmission in schools. And so that's why. I think it should be the parents decision. And it shouldn't be mandated by the government.

So you will be in charge again as he kicked off his campaign rally in ST Petersburg and said no friends will not be easy. But nothing worth doing is basically trying to work off of Rhonda Santa's taking away powers as the local authorities would tell you are you'll hear from your local governments, local officials, mayors want the power back. They want to be able to decide what happens in their city and solid governor governor to Santa's is completely taking away their powers. He's just saying As far as mandates go with mass and coronavirus, everything's going to be lifted. The emergency order is lifted. And the Satis, I think would be unbeatable. If he runs for governor again. I don't like Krista has a chance. I mean, first of all, I am. Florida is Pretty much reddish state. First of all, and now that he's a Democrat, it's going to be a little tougher. On gone Top of that Rhonda Stannis is incredibly popular. I wonder what dominated Florida I wonder what Democrats would actually like Charlie Christo is a flip flopper. He doesn't know what he is. He's whatever will get him elected. I know he's been an independent and Democrat now and used to be a Republican. And so he's got no clue. I don't think he's got a chance of becoming governor again. But I might be wrong. Today's top story The 2022 race for governor is underway Earlier today, Congressman Charlie Crist officially entered the 2022 gubernatorial race, becoming the first Democrat toe look to take on Governor Ron De Santis for the inside scoop on this development and a preview of what the Democratic primary We here in Florida could end up looking like I'm joined now by the publisher of Florida Politics Peter Shore, She confined his work at Florida politics dot com and you can find him on Twitter at Peter Schorsch, FL. Peter, Thanks so much for joining me this evening that before we get to today's announcement I want to start with the A plus trolling of Charlie Chris that governor disinterested yesterday here in ST Pete's step us through the governor's appearance in the Tampa Bay area, and why that particular location was significant. Governor to Santis announced that early in the morning that he was going to be doing a press conference at a place in ST Petersburg called the big catch, which was once known as fish tale. Now. This is just a regular Ford a seafood joint that yet pull your boat up to and eat fried fish at, But it's significant in Charlie world and what we called cryptology because it's probably the sight of 25 or 30, Charlie Crist campaign events. Over the last decade. It is one of his favorite places to go. He literally pulled his boat up the golden rule there on Sundays. He's the person who is the owner was his Childhood friends from middle school. There just aren't many places in ST Pete more, you know, connected to Charlie Crist, then the big catch. In fact, when Charlie Krystal lived in Bayfront Tower The big catch used to be located in downtown ST Pete. Why, underneath his condo building, and that's where he met. Ah, lot of people. That's where I met Charlie Crist 30 years ago when he was Ah young lawyer. It was like the one hotplate. You could go in ST Petersburg. So this is got a lot of symbolism. In the Chris. Um I don't know that Chris Tuck storybook. And so you know, Governor to Santa has this event to basically say no more local rules. Um, the the the Cove in 19 emergency is over. It's a little interesting that he did it yesterday. Um You know why? Yesterday as opposed to Friday, Um why? You know, yesterday's opposed to today? Why seen Petersburg any of those reasons? Hey, just kind of declares that the emergency was over. None. None of the numbers that go into the emergency are are better or worse today than they were a week ago. Um, just got understand. Just decided. You know, today's the day And so he did that on Chris home turf and really, you know, showed that he is gonna be game on from Rhonda Santa versus Charlie Crist again. Credit Credit is due. That was, um, a plus strolling by the governor. All right, let's get to the big announcement from Congressman Crist today. What stood out to you about the rollout? I actually thought it was probably the best launch for Charlie Crist in in a while, Um And you know, Charlie Crist has had a lot of launches. So that's actually saying something. I liked the video, probably more so than Previous videos work that I had seen. It doesn't feel like height video. It feels like the authentic kind of Floridian Charlie Crist that he likes to be, You know their shots of him in the Everglades. There was a lot of policy on that video. The announcement today it was. I don't wanna stay with over professional because it wasn't like that. But it was definitely, you know, Charlie has had asked up he's brought in. Ah, whole new crew basically kind of d C. Younger activist Democrats. I think that that's one of the things that a lot of people are talking about that this is not the Charlie Crist's campaign team of of yesteryear. It is, you know, I was talking to Maya Brown, who's worked a lot in Tampa. You know, there's a lot of people of color on the ground. There are a lot of young people, um You know whether or not they're inspired by Charlie or not. I think he has captured some of those Democratic activists. You know he's had a job. Or, you know, first six years now for them to blocked it, Which you know, in Florida politics. There isn't a lot of that. And so he's got an apparatus. Um I will say I like to speech. Um, very find out how to quote that I can't remember word for word right now. But his direct attack on the Santis No, it's you know, he's not good. If you're a woman talking, empower you of your personal color. You're not gonna let you vote If you're sick, He's not gonna help. Long list. That was pretty good. Um So I got away. Listen, he I wrote an article today saying that I think that he's in about a 5% chance of pulling this whole thing off and I still stand by that, but I think if he You know he has launched previously and then kind of faded away. I wrote during previous campaign the last month of November and December, when Charlie got into the gubernatorial race and kind of faded, you know, he had a bad time when he got to Congress in 2017. Adam Smith wrote about that when he was at the time. If he can probably convict in there, and kind of old sir. Well about damn means and Nikki freed, you know, decide what they're going to do. I think he's you know, I think he will last the distance into the primary. I'm joined by the publisher of Florida politics Peter Shore. She confined his work in Florida politics dot com and Confine him on Twitter. Peter Schorsch, FL. We're talking about Congressman Charlie Crist entering the 2022 race for governor. So what was behind this decision? You know, the congressman, you know the people involved here? Was he that concerned over Republicans potentially redrawing. That district and making a reelection bid that much more difficult. I've been pretty dismissive of that idea of, um, I think that so the idea is that Republicans gonna be in charge of redistrict deep in 2022, which they are, and that somehow they'll be about Oh, job draw Charlie Crist into a more Republican leaning district. I think that they can maybe do that. But you know the idea of You know, basically carving out the black vote in South ST Petersburg and lumping it in with the Hillsborough and Manatee County. Black boat was something that got swatted down before. I think it's I think it's illegal under fair district. I know that if the conservative Supreme Court now and Republicans think they might, you know, want to run it up the flagpole with them and see what they could do. But if they do that, then they lose their home app. On by. I don't know that they want to go through the entire redistricting process and bacon on something that has been talked out previously. So if you can't carve out the black vote out of Penelas It becomes very difficult whether you sliced in.

News joins us for more news afternoon. Let's dive in people have certain freedoms and individual liberties to make decisions for themselves. I also wonder it's like okay. You're going to do this. And then what give all this information. Some big corporation. You want the fox to guard the henhouse. I mean give me a break. Joining us now is mary. Ellen miami herald capital bureau chief. Thanks for joining us. Mary ellen governor rhonda santa's has signed a new order invalidating all remaining local emergency covert orders. He also signed a bill into law. That would bar businesses and schools and government entities from requiring. What are you know. A of people call vaccine passports so a lot of movement there and obviously rhonda santa's a rising star in. The gop could be setting the stage for a lot of other states. Do a lot of the same here. So ellen tells a little bit about what we're seeing in these new orders. It's very interesting because the governor is kind of making a big push to push back on what we're seeing in florida. And that is a lot of local. Governments have imposed stricter Rules and regulations on social distancing mask wearing on capacity restaurant and the governor has the governor has who basically said everything should go back to normal. Everything should be open. People should not be required to wear masks and now he's putting it into a into writing with this order. That has just come out so basically some of these still orders that could have been set up our limits on Like let's say for restaurants for instance is businesses capacity limits. These things as you mentioned mask wearing social distancing so with this order all of that goes out the window right. I think the wording that he is was the emergency is over now. There's no need for any of this stuff. What happened is given. Parts of the state have watched as the new variants have have clustered and become more potent than other parts of the state now. It appears as so florida. The has seen the number of new cases kind of level off but we are still seeing about thirty five hundred additional cases every day and oh along with that comes the additional deaths. So it's not as if cova has gone away so I guess the governor's perception of the emergency thing over is definitely something that is getting some attention because we heard from mayors in the communities where they have had more stricter regulations opposing. What's their reaction. Been to all of this. I mean they're trying to create these orders for what they're seeing. You know local local level. What they're seeing in their own cities and you know the governor's saying no to all of that. I mean i saw. Can the governor supersede their local rules one and then to you know what. What is the reaction been their reaction is we disagree with us and nobody has come forward to say that. They're going to challenge it legally. However i think that that is likely to play out Communities have something in the florida constitution. That is home. Rule authority which means that they have the obligation and the opportunity to regulate their community With their own local government the governor stepping in on this issue Provoke them to provide You know a legal challenge. Come forward with a legal challenge. The other thing is the state as you know is is not the same. We're one unilateral. You know everything isn't treated the same. There are some communities where people live in close quarters. We've got a lot more tourist activity And and those are the places that have had wash restrict rulings from local government about social distancing. So they wanna have the able the flexibility. And this takes that flexibility away right. Yeah i mean we all saw the pictures videos coming out of spring break when everybody was just kind of going crazy out there so definitely as you mentioned this. Limit them okay. Let's talk a little bit about the vaccine passports side of things because he had already made a an executive order with regards to that. But now with this new law they got signed. That makes it permanent now so As long as a private companies would still be able to but everybody else pretty much would not be able to require these vaccine passports. No private companies are not allowed to require them either. That's the rub here so you're a private business and somebody either works for you or or You is a client of yours. You cannot require them to show proof of vaccination the same for school saint governments. Now the only exception is health. The health care providers license healthcare facilities They can require proof of vaccination if they want to but Private companies won't be able to do it which sets up a bit of a clash right now with the cruise ship industry which is trying to bring people back. Encouraged confidence that their cruise ships are safe. And so the cdc is allowed them to start sailing out of port but they want them to assure people that everybody who's on boarders vaccinated now. The governor's order basically says they can't do that so i think that's been Emerge as another conflict here. So we'll see how that plays out and we know some of the stories from the very beginning of the pandemic a lot of cruise ships. Were kind of early outbreak centers. It's pretty tough right with. The country is starting to open back up. I know the lawmakers there are on record saying that they're trying to strike a balance protecting people from the virus protecting people's civil liberties also and one of the lawmakers are had a pretty good point though with regards to the vaccines in the vaccine. Passport issues saying we don't have the same proven history of the same vaccine that we require our school children to get the argument. Is we require vaccines for other stuff. You know why not this and they say that there's a lot of hesitancy with this and it's real and it's understandable and i do get that point because we don't know how long the immunity lasts from these vaccines yet. I mean we've barely just started using them for you know a few months now so we don't know what the long term effectiveness is so i that is a hard balance to strike there for sure. Yeah i think that is a really good point. And i almost think that you could take that argument as a justification for why you might want to perceive more cautiously and encourage people to wear masks and do social distancing because yes right now. It appears as though the vaccine was very effective. However we don't know how long it lasts and because we this is sort of an experimental stage it does raise the point of. Shouldn't you allow.

"Scope of what's going on but there was a couple of times I think Charlie Crist called Republican lawmakers up to Tallahassee for special session and they they have to respond to that they have to go up there gavel in and then they I think it was literally like minutes later date motion to adjourn and got out of there I think it was it maybe it was on class size or something like that or climate change you know but Chris said that he called a special session got all the headlines they got up there they have to drive up and then they gaveled in and then the gal that they were gone before lunch was served if I make her Kamel that's what I'm doing yeah I and dabbling in I am I've got the votes I've you know I've got the votes work I I can just move everything along and I just say you know what can I get a motion to a quick here or whatever it is just put it through and and and get off I think the president thinks that he is winning on this issue and then if you can make a big spectacle and drag it out it will actually benefit him for the twenty twenty election but it's a very risky move because you just don't know what might be on earth what one witness might wind up saying during the course of the trial I just I don't see why you would bother taking that chance I think let's give a little sense to you're talking about this is what the president's thinking I also think the president extraordinarily frustrated you know you you look at how many times he is median retweeting right yeah yes he is breaking its own record every day a hundred times you know before noon or something like that one one of these days I think there's going to be a last now I.

"We know they spoke March. Twenty-fourth, and then they communicated a about it again the morning of March twenty fifth which is probably that first letter that he referred to that we haven't seen the letter continues. While we understand that the department is reviewing the full report to determine what is appropriate for public. Release a process that our offices working with you to complete the process need, not delay the release of the enclosed materials release at this time would alleviate the misunderstandings that have arisen and would answer congressional and public questions about the nature and outcome of our investigation. It would also accord with the standard for public release of notifications to congress cited in your letter, quote, the attorney general may determine that public release of congressional notifications would be in the public interest, unquote. So now, he's using what bar said to devout to deter, you know, to kind of lay out the groundwork of why he should release the enclosed materials poking holes in his entire argument. Basically. Yeah. Laying foundation for for any future litigation that might arise from this nowhere. Does. He mention the media. Mischaracterization which bars whole thing. You know, he said. Muller? You know was upset about the media's mischaracterization not mine, but there's not mentioned in here at all. Yeah. Passing the buck. So now we have multiple occasions during which Muller has asked Barr to release his summaries, including the mardi the meeting March fifth and then again on March twenty four th before bar shoot his letter then in a release after the release on March twenty fifth in the morning, then during a phone call bar testified to on March twenty fifth and again in this letter on March twenty seventh all five times bar ignored him and wrote his own misleading summary, and then blamed the press several times for mischaracterizing, the findings as you said, you could see Muller didn't mention the media in this letter at all bar testified that he asked Miller on the phone if his letter was inaccurate. And he said Muller said, no, but accuracy and context or not the same thing. So sure it's technically not inaccurate, right? But it's certainly misleading and as Muller said it fails to capture the substance and conclusions properly. What's extrordinary here is that weeks after he got all five maybe more requests for Muller to release his sufferings summaries because bars letter miss the Mark bar was asked in front of congress. If he knew what Muller thought of his letter, and he said, he didn't know he was asked twice and in a caucus meeting after his testimony this week Pelosi pointed at Charlie Crist who asked him that question and said, he lied to you. And that was when Pelosi came out and declared that he committed a crime and should resign. Pardon intense for Pelosi. Yeah, she's really a measured person after bars. Testimony this week Lindsey Graham said he's not going to have Mcgann or molar testify. But then changed his mind writing a letter to molar asking if he felt bar misrepresented their phone conversation bar testified that Muller said his letter was not inaccurate. And that he blamed the media for the mischaracterization Graham has told Muller to please inform the committee if he'd like to provide testimony regarding any misrepresentation by bar on the substance of that phone call. Maybe or we could get the notes or you could read his letter. It's pretty clear who he blames so Graham doesn't want to testify, but he's giving him a chance to respond to that small part of his testimony of bars testimony. I'm sure that Muller will be testifying either in the house or the Senate in short order. Fact, I got news today may fifteenth is the tentative date that they've set up for him to testify in the house. Okay. Good good. And that the ides of may so in it is technically the is the is fallen March may September. It is the I wouldn't you think Barr would wanna get in there before Willard 'as than you'd think. But no completely lying. He can't. He can't even leave the truth at this point. How? He saw out. Sorry about your play there. Maybe he wants to wait for Muller to go in there. And then he knows what he can mean. He needs to like, you know, negate. Yeah. And before we got that information that meant that they agreed on may fifteenth..

That's that's why there's so many poor folks discrimination on jobs promotions. You can't get above the water. They had they get their foot down on you say, you cannot come up. And so therefore activists who definitely have the mouthpiece. To spark that change. They might even be nervous because they might get gunned down. What you know what Mike they don't kill you. Now what they do is. They keep you out of the news, and they try to make you a relevant because I believe decision was made after Dr king was killed not to have another martyr. Not like that. So what you do with your rendered your smeared people say awful things about you that having been said we still I'm beginning to sound like Reverend we're still because guess what? I mean, if you look at all of the voters who were purged in Georgia. Stacey Abrams one if you look at all of the people. I mean, the one million people that Charlie Crist had planned to have on the rolls for twenty sixteen and you'll give them one. That's why he said, no, no, I'm gonna go on voter registration drive right now. Because that's what he needs to do. He knows he knows he's the rightful governor. He knows that. So we keep winning because we keep running and we keep voting we all voting. And so I have to tell you. I think you know, LaTasha why we're we're winning. I mean, yeah, I often say that. I think I think part of what we've gotta do. We've got to be clear about America to extraordinary that was just fifty years ago y'all.
