Yesterday we'll just first of all thursdays belong to impact wrestling just so you know in case you were wondering that the watch my boys. The good brothers. Get busy last night but no gable. Stevenson states heavyweight wrestler. Out of the university of minnesota. He's a guy who's been pretty famous and well known since. I believe he was in high school. When i you know. His name image likeness. I'm sure is going to blow up. But he pulled off something that i was going to go down as one of the all time. Great buzzer-beaters in history. He was wrestling a guy from georgia. Not the state georgia but the country of georgia and with ten seconds remaining. He was down in the match. Basically this guy scored with one second left one second left match over and he wins the gold medal for america in olympic wrestling. In you know it was pretty amazing to sit there and watching you know. I'm still not that sure. I remember back in high school during gym class. We used to have like a week or two weeks of wrestling off the worst fall. And what was actually worse for me. Was we lineup. Alphabetic order my buddy. Tj hallman who another tj. Who's like the star wrestler on. The team would always be standing next to me in every morning when gym class started. He just kind of reached over and tap me on my shoulder. Let me know all right. No i live a lot of people punch you in the geysers real. I'm at the idea of g-go hollywood and be an action star pop up fast ten expendable or go to route where you're actually like continue to compete. And also there's another way like anyone knows carlton haselrig. Who is actually my god system michelle's husband who unfortunately passed away last year six time. Ncaa division two in division one heavyweight wrestling champion got drafted by the pittsburgh steelers after not playing college football and made the pro bowl and third year. How about the wrestler. Who's never played football. I do she go with him but who won the gold medal. That's interesting dogfight. Rounds round. "By the way, Um Really like what they did with Charles Woodson. And surprising him. This has become a tradition now, David Baker. Who runs the Hall of Fame. Surprise Jimmy Johnson last year. I thought it was really well done that they fox. The people were Fox. We set up, Jimmy. They surprised Joe Buck. They supply surprise trade eggman, and this year they got they got Charles Woodson. David Baker is a fascinating individual. At some point, Anthony put it on the list of things we need to do. We should get David Baker on on the show if we can next week. He's fascinating. He's 6 FT nine and £400. He usually wears that really bright, robust blue suit with the red tie. He switched it up a little bit on Charles Woodson. But this guy looks like he played football. But he really played basketball. He just loves football, and I know that he's been trying desperately. You bring the Super Bowl to Canton, where the pro Football Hall of Fame is. I'd love that. They've kind of revamp things down there. I don't know if if Canton really has the capacity to do it, although this would have been the year to do it in Canton. Because obviously there restrictions on how many people can actually be there and You could have people in the hotels and Akron and Cleveland if you needed to. But he's been trying desperately needed to get that super get a Super Bowl in Canton. They wanted it during the 1/100 anniversary, but that wasn't going to happen, but it's cool to see David Baker. Show up because you can't mistake him. It's not like he's somebody else. He's 6 FT. Nine and £400 he get on Lee be David Baker. He Sam Baker's dad, remember Sam Baker, the tackle? That's his dad, who's in charge of the whole Hall of Fame. Seen Charles Woodson be I know that Charles probably had a good indication that he was going to the Hall of Fame. But You to get that call. Or in this case, have David Baker's show up behind you While you're doing an interview, to let you know that you're going into the Hall of Fame seems pretty special. This is a really fascinating list. Of people who got in. If you're just waking up like, well, then who did get it? Peyton Manning, Obviously. Allen, Fan Icka, Charles Woodson, Calvin Johnson, John Lynch, Bill Nunn, Drew Pearson. And Tom Flores. I'm glad that in the year where Cores is doing the commercials. With Tom Flores that he actually does get into the Hall of Fame. It's really made no sense, like he's one of he was one of four coaches. That it won two Super Bowls. And not been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Super Bowl champions from the 1918 1983 season. With the Raiders. And away. I think he's win percentages on Lee behind Bill Belichick's 73% more. His team's 1 73% of the games that they played..

Yes let's keep it classy. He's a lover his season. He no he is his vocal inflections. Yes is come. He's just a good dude. P Then took the woman on a group date to the Cleveland Browns stadium where there was traumatic place on pickers house. They played a game of tackle football coach by Josh cribs and Hanford Dixon. Also also I guess on the show when Chris was saying like all right. We're going to Cleveland and usually that's where all the girls like. It was just like everyone who's just blank face. WE'RE GOING TO CLEVELAND. And they're all just like oh I love when they do that. So that's an old real world trick when they were like and your trip is Argentina. And then when you're going to Yugoslavia of Lia ship and then Eliah whoever you guys remember got sent over love you assault was your map from nineteen eighty seven. It was not Yugoslav anymore shows now respect Croatia Vania. I actually did that on purpose so that I wasn't offending occurrence country. Okay didn't want to get cancelled. Elias shows back up and ask him out of fashion that lived in Yugoslavia. You guys are missing. The most part Alaya showed up. She got home last week so she's not on. The show actually had death squads that that executed people that were fighting against Nazis. So this is kind of a pattern for you in today's episode absorb get Alaya. Who got sent home last week? Shows back up and ask Peter to let her come back in and he did The other girls. That are pissed at Pete Heat and some threatened to leave so is this an empty threat or they actually goal-bound. I don't know this is like a union situation. The the rest are unionizing. Potentially that's that's what it sounds like. Well I mean the whole show is about roses so they're probably LDS say true. "This is great. And look, you know, lockers twenty four and two and I'm like, wow. That twenty four Charles Woodson locker number two. Oh, that's Charles Woodson as well. He's got to lockers. So he had a college locker and fell locker because he wore number to practice. I mean, that's how player he was. He had to lockers. And what do you have to do to get to locker who's allowed to lockers of our probably say multiple Pro Bowl. The, you know, a guy who of that stature. Yeah. A guy who's won the Heisman the steal the only player. Yeah. Win the Heisman Trophy in Charles Woodson. So I walk in. I see Charles Woodson. I'm just like, wow. That's Charles Woodson. That's the Heisman Trophy winner. And then I'll walk around the other side where the D lineman sitting them like, wow. That is really warned set like Warren sat the hall of Famer Warren Sapp, he's oh my team and not to be outdone this freakish tall like one of the best. Receivers of all time walks in in Randy moss. And I'm sitting here saying this can't be real. And this is just in the locker room setting. We get out to the practice field. And for me, I was drafted to play a role or early in my career in kind of change. It was just going to be an every down linebacker started right away. And now, I'm practicing it is just such a surreal moment. A Quinny winds really took me back to that moment right now dR because you know, you watch these guys on television. "Achilles. How about having Juliana suspended? How about having Josh born suspended? How about all that happened never saying blue about it and just going on and winning another? Other world title. This crazy. You know, it really is crazy Adam. Because obviously, you know, we're we're both Michigan men, and I was even talking about this with Charles Woodson on my show last week and tile getting into the hall of fame. Nobody saw the Brady stuff coming. Nobody. Nobody. And he's the goat. I mean. That's it there. We're talking about him in Jordan. Now, you know what? I mean, like we're no longer comparing him to anybody in in the NFL's history. We're talking about him versus Michael Jordan L, essentially. I mean, what Jordan in the finals with six zero and Brady is six three and they games. And, you know, by the way, if you know, and if you go both ways, right, but but let's what Brady's wait for a moment. Say that Asante Sanyal hold onto that interception against the giants right before David tardy makes the catch because if something family will read the league interceptions that year holds onto that plate that one pass that was in is and the undefeated season is in the books Brady quarterback will won't nineteen year that we've seen and they're seven two in the Super Bowls. And then the people I'm out of that long sideline pass to earn amounting him the right one. But the giants their credit deserve to rings that they got. So they twice and then the third super loss. Eagles which could win. Now. You can say, okay. Well, the patriots are fortunate to beat the Seahawks on the now the pick which maybe they were. And they were fortunate to come back against the falcons and overtime, which maybe they were. But they're six and three which is probably what they should be when all getting done. So I think go your way sometimes they don't go your way. But when I was watching. Steve Young talk on NFL primetime Sunday night. He sits in great. He said that the MVP of that game should have been Bill Bella check because it was his crowning achievement as a coach in those Hsuehpa bowl's coming up with the game plan that slowed that offense and held it to three total points. So they won't see roles now in all sorts of ways with special teams with offense now with defense, and they did this in a way that you never would think that an offense coached by Sean McVay with that many weapons could go on tour three points three points who thought that the patriots who by the way was their defensive coordinator. Matt Patricia as well last year, and it was the fed score nearby. This year's well. We're gonna go hold that team. We got a touchdown the entire game. It's amazing Adam Schefter here on the rich Eisen show. So what is when I say the aftermath is well, the copycat that comes out. Everybody wants a piece of whoever wins it all obviously you mentioned Flora's who was again spectacular in his role on now going to the dolphins. And it seems you know, one of the best lines. This year was in the playoffs from Wade Phillips, saying my son, also know, Sean McVay, maybe you wanna hire him to coaching job. What what do you think the copycat aspect coming out of this is going to be out of? Rick. Why would you say that that the patriots coaching staff has kind of been picked through the years, and I still believe that Josh mcdaniels it'd be great head coach and this year he interview with the Green Bay Packers thought a lot of people funny pudding made that might wind up with that job..

"Every week. He Catholic this time caps off today. So we're in for cab. We talked to Adam every Wednesday at noon just afternoon. Been a very busy, man. The twenty eighteen season is over there's really not much of an season in the NFL though. So like I'd say you finally get to sleep. But I don't know. I mean, I feel like you're always working covering this league. Right. You know, the same thing I was driving to the airport this morning with one of my bosses, and I said there's just things that still are in the works. Right. We're going to have dolphins still their head coaching job today with Bryant flurries build their job as Jack Taylor. Begins to be trade talks involving Joe flacco and foles Antonio Brown. All the other players that are out there and show. It's quieter right now during February for a couple of weeks. No doubt about it is quieter never stops in this doesn't and that. I'm not complaining. I'm just explaining. That's the way it works. And that's the way it goes. So look there's a part of me that can very much. Appreciate really good defense that being said touchdowns. I want the Super Bowl to feature some touchdowns last. Maybe doesn't have to be last year. It's funny. These last two years ibew completely out of whack one way and the other you know, too much offense, no defense. No offense defense. I don't know. But I would have preferred touchdowns not just one but more than that. Did you think the game was boring yesterday? Been better Super Bowl. It was not exactly a scintillating game. I think that we've become so accustomed to this day and age so watch of yards and lots of points and video game scores. And that's what the league is designed these games to big. Designed to have offensive explosions and the year has been defined by getting them with the chiefs in the Rams and the saints and this was an old fashioned kind of game. If you like that kind of thing like Charles Woodson. Was saying that he loved the game love the game. So again, I don't think our culture. I don't think the u today. Value a game like that. And I don't think it was the most exciting enrichment game that I've ever seen the fourth quarter got interesting. And by by the way. If you take away championship Sunday, we said this. It was a terrible playoffs the championship. Sunday was great great memorable games. A lot of different reasons. Overtime games. They the only two good games. The NFL postseason. Sean McVeigh outcoached, obviously by Bill Belichick. How long is this going to hurt him? I don't think you ever get over some losses like this. You're you never lost the Super Bowl. You know? I lost an NFC championship game against Dallas AFC championship against New England. New England, right? I remember that. So let me ask you a question. Do you still feel those games day? I remember every play. I remember the lights going out. I remember James Taylor playing the national anthem acoustically under guitar. I remember every portion of it. Okay. So there you go. So why would Sean McVeigh not remember in Super Bowl in his hometown? Where he got out outcoached, right? Like, he's always going to remember it. And I think that the great warns us that to view themselves to or hiking the future and to propel them to good things they use they feed off that. I mean, she's going to do that. Or it's gonna eat him alive. One or the other right? I just think that that guy has the mix they'll make up the balance back from any you've ever spent any valid so impressive. And everything that he does that. I think he'll bounce back from that. I'm not telling us more to win six Super Bowls like double check. But he's I think he's going to have another tracking at that. Apple is you've been exposed at all. I mean, I could be overreacting here in a big way. I mean, I think the guy can coach as you've been exposed at. Although listen, I think whatever the patriots decides to do to shut them down is something that they will see more of next season ended they'll be to Kim to figure out ways to combat that and get around it. Now. You know, what's interesting. And then you started this just now in all the years that I was covered. Mike, shannon. Susan denver. They were so good. So early on like early in the season, nobody could beat them and sometimes late in the year. They would they lose a little bit of that productivity that people because he was so far ahead of people early on it would catch on. And I I wonder the same thing happened here with Sean McBain the Rams where so many people weren't as defense that we sold the bare slow them down the line and slow them down. And they. Defensive masterpiece of you watch. I one of the more interesting things I saw yesterday was Steve Young post game fresh out for Jordan, Nicole. Ataman hold for my whole that was reestablished Daniel Daniel, we've got to reestablish. He's walking in the tunnel. Maybe, you know, about check talk to Patricia too. Yeah. That is one of the other teams have faced them that. Maybe slowed them down a little bit of know that. I don't think he's got any connections to the bear staff, and who knows maybe reached out to Matt Nagy back. He's pulling out his second. Cell phone is going to call me back. Burners con. Sherri, what you'd reach out to the bears? She talked to Fangio Fangio's asleep. Forever. Maybe nobel. Check would just give them Aranka. Just certainly watch the tape. Right Adams back. You were saying about. Mcveigh? And I can't remember where he had quite left off. I said one of the most impressive things I saw most notable things I saw Steve Young hosts game on NFL prime time. And he was advocating for Bill Belichick to have won the MVP of the game. Because he said that his when was the fifteen chapel of his coaching career. This offense held without a touchdown. Shut it down and young really smart and really engaging was blown away by what the patriots defensive defensively. Now, you're always more of an extra those guiding you, and I I don't ever myself on X knows Steve Young was literally almost speechless over what the patriots. The defensively. And Sal paolantonio joined us earlier, Adam and he was embedded with the pats this weekend, he was saying he that there was a different feel about them this year. Almost more of like a calmness. I had ballot. Check, I think set on Saturday. We're ready. I'm kind of paraphrasing. But I don't recall ever hearing him say something like that. Did you notice something different about the patriots this week last week? I had the floor like all week long. I didn't go around. I didn't spend much time around any purpose is I didn't want to get anybody. Sick. I was planning to go. And I just think you know, what? But here's what I will say. I mean, what they have learned to battle through adversity and overcome obstacles better than just about any team in sports today you go back and look at their off season for one year ago. Okay. They lose their left tackle, they're starting. Tackle Nate soldier to the giants cornerback Malcolm Butler wide receiver. Danny amendola. Danny goes to the dolphin. Yeah. Lowest lowest featured member of an office last year when they were playing me he goes on the SuperBowl. They traded Brandin cooks to LA reverse round pick. They lost their first job because they win twenty Killys Julian Edelman was suspended. Josh Gordon was suspended. And they still one of those. It's.

"I'd say. Around guys. In the locker room. Yeah. Building the ball. Not about just dropping one in the bucket. Touchdown. All that's great. But you sure, but the Camry of locker room, okay? Kinda Murray here on the rich Eisen show this past year for Oklahoma. How much were you in contact with Baker Mayfield throughout the year collar, not a lot? No, he he was busy himself. And he knows he knows I was busy. So just getting to watch them on Sundays free special. And I know you know, he's he's doing same on Saturday. So after you know, come around the Heisman time is when we kinda started to talk a lot more. It's a lot more. They're out. You knew he had you had to vote for sure, obviously. So what did it mean for you to win the Heisman Trophy, those dream come true? I mean, it's it's still really hasn't really said it's weird. You know? I don't say my life changed. But you know, just everywhere everywhere, I go people notice me stuff like that. So something I've always dreamed of obviously. So, you know, I'm not surprised by any of the reactions and stuff like that. But it's definitely a blessing. Okay. And where is that trophy right now? I sleep next to it. It's on your nightstand. Yeah. Good morning Heisman every type. Seriously. It's it's right there next like there's a night table next to kinda Mary's bed in the Heisman trophies resting. That's amazing. Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night? And you've had it in your spooning. There's no spooning. There's no there's no Heisman spooning, by the way. I would. If I won the highest I've only why have received the Heisman it was asking for prom dates back in high school. I got the Heisman laws. A new name Heisman spooning Heisman spooning is great fantasy team name tough. Look, you gotta do that. Right. I mean, so go so when it all comes down to it. What was more awkward me trying to pry an answer out? If you five minutes ago, we're sitting next to having his name is pronounced by the guy who then hired handed you the Heisman Trophy. What's more awkward? Neither awkward. Okay. Good. Okay. So then. Give me an ad. I mean, like mid February think or next week. What do you think? What I leave this place when you leave this this. There's nothing this room when you leave Atlanta to somewhere around so next week. Have you been talking to your dad or your thought everybody? Your dad. Okay. 'cause you know, obviously, you got guys in it is true. Right. Your was your uncle at the plate. Yeah. He was when Randy Johnson's fastball. Blew up the poor bird that flew in the middle of. Yeah. He was. Yeah. What does he told you about that? Gearing up for hundreds. So, you know. I don't know. He he didn't didn't really describe it too much. But I I can only imagine what he was thinking. Boy. And then the ball got fouled. All you will. Oh, he hit the Bruno the bird got all you know, what I mean. So the best advice your dad has given. You is what? We don't we don't really. He's not an advice giver, or you know, we just it's not it's not like that. You know? It's not like we're just in. You're talking about. Yeah. Do this do that like this? Oh, okay. I'm just trying to figure out. I'd love to see you at the combine that is forgotten short. Appreciate it. I would I really would you know? I would love to see out there spin it and see what you could do at the next level in the National Football League. It up. Do I take that his confirmation? No doubt. Chris. What do we do? Right. "He just said he for me. He was saying, you know, go with your heart. Whatever you do, you know, never looked back. That's with your heart. Those message he's kind of changed a little bit. 'cause if you weeks ago, basically, he said grab a bat. Not look back. I heard that you did hear that. Yeah. But he did not say that to yesterday. No. We talked about it. Okay. So what do you think as you're sitting here? I'm gonna do what I wanna do. Do you do? So you do not know what you're gonna do right now as you're sitting here right now. I have no comment on that. Okay. We're getting closer. So you do know what you're going to do you just don't want to reveal it? Just yet. Yes. That's what you wanna say. I don't want to say, anyhow, I'm asking you. What you think in your mind because it it's I know for sure baseball would love to have you. And so would the NFL, but you would agree though. Let's let's start with this. Would you agree that you can't do both? Love to 'cause you're playing quarterback. So that would be difficult. So you know, that you're gonna have to choose one over the other at some point, you know, in your head when that decision might become an. K because all right. Let me ask you this. I'm having fun with this. I host the combine at the NFL network. Okay. Okay. So will I be saying that's kind of Murray down there. Okay. You don't know that? What you do know that you're just not telling me. No, okay. Geez. You know, you here for Gatorade. You know? You're for the Super Bowl. Okay. Which what is your favorite part about playing baseball? How about that? Let's start right there question. Thank you. You haven't said that to me yet. So the other questions were not as good as what you're saying. No, okay. What do you like about playing baseball? As in the ball is easy. I put it yelling get in the box and just competing, basically, you know, you're gonna fail. We play baseball. Everybody knows that. So there's a rush when you get in the box for those who may not have seen you play baseball. Obviously America has seen you play football of much smaller portion of America's you play baseball who do you model your game? After would you see you model your game after in the least modestly don't worry about it? Just drop a name because we all think we're great at what we do. So go ahead name for you. Okay. So what is your game? Like that. I feel like I can do at all, you know, hit for power if contact. Obviously run fast. You know, the more reps, you know, the better the I'll be now feel so whatever it is. You know, loggains ation needs from you feel like I Bill. Sure. So you you get on. I you can you can be on third within just a couple of pitches potentially is what you're saying pause. Okay. Put the pressure on the pitching pressure on the defense, you know, which obviously you're also used to doing and the other sport. So and then you can you can pop one out. I mean, how many home runs have you had your what's your what's your? What's your best home run here? This was to. So we hit double digits. Do you? Do you Cadillac around the basis? I mean, what your style. Try not to disrespect pitcher too much too much. Keep simple. I'm supposed to you know. That's that's how feel supposed to do that. So sometimes if I'm in the mood for the but not not, okay. So which the five tools is your favorite the most obvious affiliates. Speed. But I I like to hit the ball. Okay. And I turned to my left right now with Cuyler Murray about to join us Travis Kelsey and drew Brees as well. It's always good. Good. Good. To be with the audience. Nice touch. Appreciate that. Because you're a man of the people absolutely people person I figured we'll have people here to listen to our conversation. So what do you think of this matchup your Joel's? What do you think? It's a really I think it's going to be a really good game. We really do. Everyone seems to think that the Rams were my pick to win the Super Bowl back in September. So we Michigan men guys simpatico. That's our favorite way crease. Guys. I would say did you have them beating the patriots, though ahead think so? Because that's that's what I had Aaron Donald winning the offensive plano. Oh, NFL MVP. Why don't they entirely? He's the best player in football. But he won't get the credit. He deserves because he doesn't score touchdowns. You know? But when you think about it when you watch this man played a game. He has doubled almost seventy percent of time. And he still came up with twenty and a half sacks fat. Thank about that back, man. So bad man, a bad, man. So. When you think about Rams patriots about offense of teams, you know. I thought my reasoning for them winning the Super Bowl being that. This is such an offensive minded game. Nowadays is that defensively the team that win would have to come up with the play similar to last year's Super Bowl. We had a Brandon Graham another Michigan guy came up with the the second into the game to win a game. It would be the same way. I feel like this game. It'll be somebody on the defensive side. And I feel like with the playmakers at the Rams have on the defense that they'll they'll make the play at the end of the game to win the game. So I'm still going still. Still the right way. Rams. So what do you think? Bella check and mcdaniels and Tom are going to do to make sure that Donald to Bella check called quote, unquote, pretty much unblock -able. What do you think they're going to do to prevent that from happening? They're going to double. They're going to try to do what everybody else's you know, tried to do. But if you look at. Aaron Donald plan against the saints. They doubled him. You know, he didn't have his he didn't have a sack you know, in their game couple of weeks ago still disruptive, but he's not second quarterback. So I think that the patriots. I mean, they're going to do what everybody else is trying to do in this double team, Charles..

"I mean, we're doing all of this. One that's one raiders season. Call you out. Well, that's my point this guy who says time to start healing get over. It is still talking about the tuck rule game. Well, the tuck rule was a little bit easier said than done I don't begrudge a single saints fan for being salty about this all off season and into the start of next season. I there is no way to fix it. You can be mad about affirming designated next. Whether or not that rule had an addendum or article two spoke to three or not we already know at this point lawsuit or not which by the way will take like seven years. So we'll come back and replay the game in twenty whatever. And then relitigate the Super Bowl will graduate. All the players out of retirement except for Tom Brady. He'll still be out there loosen. There's no way to fix it. It's they got screwed it stinks. A lot of us have been there. Most of us have not been there in this agreed of a manner where everyone's talking about it the league's already looking at rule changes. So I feel bad for them. And I don't begrudge them any single minute that they wanna spend whining and complaining about it that that's you know, if you're going to say a well humidity, or then you're also gonna say, oh, well humanity doesn't heal overnight. And I'm certainly not saying get over it in that sense up saying, you gotta start the healing process because you never get over it. I mean, I saw Charles Wesley anger. Let him have it for a while. I mean Woodson was tweeting at like less than a minute after this. Call would Charles Woodson is out there saying, hey, saints fans have all of you that have been telling me to get over the tuck rule. How's it feel and I'm like who not not not great timing know, I looked at it. And I'm like Charles, I don't have to press on that. Because you. Did for me, my friend. So there's no there's no easy way to fix this. And we went into the show tonight. Sarah kind of saying, well, what's what's right, then if this won't fix it? Because do you wanna live in a world where the Commissioner has that? But I I don't think it's a good thing. Even in the concept of if the Commissioner had this power. I don't think I wanna live in a world where Roger Goodell can come in the next day and say, you know, what guys I don't know what you have planned today everybody. Let's get back to let's get back to the Superdome. And we're gonna play the last minute and forty nine seconds of this game. This is hard without context. Which is not these sports radio answer to this. Right. You're supposed to have a hot take. But if in the case of what the the rule calls for which is emergency, or completely, you know, extreme circumstance where something feels completely wrong. And the timing is such that you can nip it in the bud almost immediately after the game. We're even during it, then I don't mind this rule. Right. If somebody parachutes onto the field and breaks the ankle of a player on one team, and he was the star player. And then they lose that seems unfair. If a part of the stadium crumbles and someone's deeply in gravely injured or killed and they're like keep playing, right? I just feels like there are moments that are so extreme and outside even our imagination that this may come into play. Then why not have it in there? But every other case and for the most part. Art, especially when it takes time hours days when we've already moved on to the next match-up where people have retired or Leifer vacation. I'm going to say, no, it's just not realistic to go back and replay a game or restarted game. Spain and Fitz on ESPN radio. Sarahspain Jason Fitz presented by progressive insurance. "Are only two jobs left. This har- wanna go to the Bengals on the dolphins over the ravens. I I'm thinking no good knee under contract. So it's I don't think it's just choices. Yeah. No. Because the contract gets voided. That's the funny thing about the training of a coach is you're not trading the contract. It's compensation essentially for taking another teams property, but it's not the same kind of a trade as what we as what we think about with a trade for players who have. No who have no say in it. Okay. All right, Mike. I appreciate the phone call. Thank you so much. All right. So before we get to this other calls, I mentioned well black when I really want you to hear this. So I asked well because he's a former NFL defensive back. He won the Super Bowl. He played more than a decade. And to me it can be a tough sell if your entire coaching hiring was about the offense. And it's all about that side of the ball wall. What do you need to hear is what I asked? Well, when that new coach stands in front of you, maybe no experience. Maybe he's early thirties. Well, only Sean McVeigh's early thirties but late thirties, he's a younger guy. And it's all about the offense. What do you need to hear from him that sells to you? He can be a head coach being. So that's the main thing don't come in here. And and try to be try to be Joe Gibbs. I'd be somebody don't come here with these speeches that you're gonna promise this or do that, you know, we'll find out real quick that you know, you're but coming there and present yourself this. This is your plan. You have a plan give you know back. How you're gonna try to get that plant. And then the magic thing is I want to help you succeed. When you hear that from a code to help you succeed that you you already. Have your good coaches don't realize or a lot if you don't realize that. Yeah. It's the NFL guys again paid the highs of the highest, but everyone wants to be taught everyone wants to be coast. Everyone wants the answers. I remember Charles Woodson when he went over to back to the raiders defense back coach, Marcus Roberson and. Who was a nine year? Nighttime. All pro I have so and. Who already want everything, you know, almost four years old, and he looked he's leading coach Robinson give him the answers. Like, he's letting him coaching because coast Marcus says he said. They said, listen, Charles. Listen to me, I will get you back in the Pro Bowl again at forty years old. And he listen sure though. End up in a Pro Bowl. So that's what will says on the defensive side of the ball. I need this coach to stand up there and be real and come with a plan. Don't tell me we're gonna win the Super Bowl this year. Don't promise me. This don't promise me that because we'll see right through it. And we'll find out you're a fraud. Pretty quick. Make sure you're prepared have a plan and tell me what you can do for me. How can you help me as a player? I want to be coached. How can you help me the entire conversation with well is really good. We talk about the situation in Green Bay. Because of course, he was there for a while. We talk about Bruce Arians. We talked about the age idea. And and does it matter to players the coaches closer in age to them and has more life experience in common with them all of those things in this conversation with well who is now part of NFL network. He's great. So if you would please check that out on our show Twitter or on our Facebook page, our podcast is posted every weekday morning and the interviews are separate, and I feel like you'll learn a lot not to mention we went over wildcard weekend as well. As he I asked him to pick one game to talk about for divisional weekend. No piece that I can't do what I have to talk about all four. So he just took over the show is fine. It's always good to talk to well. Eight five five two one two four two two seven. Nick is listening in Cleveland. Welcome to after hours CBS sports radio. Thanks. They. I love the show. Thank you. I just wanted to say FREDDY kitchen, we we love the higher there. Because when you say, we who are referring to Nick, are you speaking of the Cleveland fan base almost majority. I guarantee you that. Okay. I mean, we are very we are very grateful. Greg williams. We'll never forget that. I do. Believe that they let him go because it would be a hard thing to flip flop. You know? But we're definitely very grateful. But I wanna say also with with Mike McCarthy I normally ninety percent of the time. I agree with you with it. Variance? But I will say that like Andy Reid. Andy Reid had. He he had a little bit change. And I do know that the well it's reported that the reason McCarthy wasn't even interviewed with Cleveland was because he wasn't going to change his offense whatsoever. I thought okay just to just to give the other side. I thought the Mike McCarthy said he was only interested in New York. Yeah. But if you go back before the they put out that they had conversations with McCarthy on the phone, and they weren't going to interview him. And then that very next day when he said he's going to have conversation with New York. I just believe that there's something there. And what they're saying on ESPN Cleveland is. That he wasn't willing. They keep ready get off. And that's why they promoted well that makes sense McCarthy's the offensive guy. So if I'm getting hired I don't want the team handing me on offense coordinator who may or may not see the same offense as I do that makes total sense McCarthy's been around for a long time. And and I can understand him not wanting to then go into a situation where he's going to be dictated to as a Super Bowl winning head coach, Nick, thank you so much for the phone call. I appreciate it. Let's talk to Patrick who's in Baltimore. Welcome to after hours. CBS sports radio. Hey, good morning morning say I love the show. Thank you. Whatever. Awesome. I just wanna say also the whole Greg Williams things aren't they ever? It's pretty stupid move in my in my head because you know, the guy was making something out of nothing thought Baker Mayfield was gonna be great and Hugh Jackson didn't support him and give him the tools to succeed. So I think that's kinda stupid. I am interested to see what Freddie kitchen does though. I also have one more question. Is there a head coaching position or Miami? Dolphins. I'm going to hang up. Thank you. Okay. Thank you Patrick in. Baltimore was I think he was asking me whether or not there was any news about the head coach and by any right now. So the dolphins and Bengals obviously are the two teams right now that do not have openings, and here's what I've heard about the dolphins. I this is what appears to be the case that the dolphins really want a member of the patriot staff their defensive coordinator, and that they're willing to hold out and wait for him that that's kind of the idea is right now, and it would make sense why they're why they're quiet at this point. You know, who it is that they want it that person still involved in the playoffs, then they would have to be content to wait. So yeah, I mean that that to me makes sense. But it's been pretty cool for sure Brian Florez. He's the patriots DC. And then there's other guys that there probably interviewing. I mean, I've I've seen some other guys two special teams coordinator here an offensive guy there Stephen Ross wants to go through a rebuilt here. So the he's more about the slow burn. And sounds like he's gonna go outside the box as well, though. We we won't find out right now. I mean, there there are guys that you're just so thrilled for like a Vic Fangio who's been three decades in the NFL has never got the chance to be a head coach until now, and I think the dichotomy with ages so fascinating Pete Carroll sixty-seven Bruce Arians and Bill Belichick sixty six Vic Fangio sixty and then a bunch of guys in their thirties. Good stuff. All right. We're back tonight to talk about division a weekend after hours on CBS sports radio. The inflatable.

"Eight seven seven three threes. Seven six x six x number to call for a final one hours up until Sal licata at ten on your fan New York City, we should have before very long Nick Collins who played with the Green Bay Packers part of their Super Bowl championship team. And here was a free safety. And certainly the NFL fan of any team might remember Collins, the three time pro bowler one thing and on his way to a hall of fame career, you mentioned free safeties. You you think of terrific safety should think about Charles Woodson. You think Nick Collins, and he of course, suffered his career coming to a. Abrupt damned in twenty eleven. He had a collision with Jonathan Stewart of Carolina had a neck injury. And that basically ended what could have been and he was certainly on track for a hall of fame career. We hope to have him and to talk a little bit about Mike McCarthy Mike McCarthy actually decides to coach. Twenty nine teen. So again, we're we hope to have Nick Collins sometime this hour in the meantime, Nope, and the one eight seven seven three three seven six six six six number to call Lenny is calling from queens. Lenny you're on the fan. Thanks for taking the time. Hey, steve. Thank you for taking my call for sure I want to talk about the Mets. I think the Mets are going to see a green as long as the bullpen. And the starting pitching holds up for what they were last year low bullpen Elise with the bullpen. You got DS the closer which is like a thousand percent better than what we had last. In the aid. And now you're gonna have Lugo where they probably should be liking the six and seven. And then like all you really need is a good w started. We get any more often than what we had last year. I think we'll be so much better because he was only five games under five hundred about like, most of the games we lost with the ground. We would probably would have won. If we would've scored two more runs than what we. Yeah. And here's an here's the interesting thing with the extension. You want that extension to be out of the way with any conversation. We have with me, and you and any other metropolitan fan. I mean, do you want that extension to be off the table and done with and to make him happy already? But no that hasn't come about. And it should be coming about as we speak. Grandma piece like that again. But even pitch to three point Ryan type ERA, right? Any be perfect. That's all we need, right. I mean, those are real aces syndergaards needs to stay healthy. But the offense dolphins. I met fan really knows a weaker score five runs four five four and a half for a great offense. Never did that for us. So we'll see what happens. But I think Conforto is definitely gonna come back and be a big plus because he came back way too early last year. Surgery, right? You know, we definitely did know. And listen, Wendy, thanks for the call. No, you're right about what you're talking and you want everyone to stay healthy, which has been the ammo with the Metropolitans. I mean doctors have seen more of the the players and fans. So I mean, the bottom line is you want the Metropolitans you want anyone to be healthy you now. Whether you you know, I mean. The pitching the end they will get better or they will get some offense now from from catcher because Wilson Rama's he hoped Peter Alonzo can make it over there at first base. I'm not excited at Rosario showed some improvement towards the end of the of the of the season. So, but they want a big bad in there. And I'm not so sure it's all going to be with the Wilson Rama's. I mean, he's he's a hitter. It is a good defensive catcher. I mean, let's face it. Travis Dr no PLO wacky. I mean, providing absolutely zero from behind the plate. So we're getting Wilson romo's. That's a good thing. Getting D as getting Robinson Conover one is saying, hey, look Robertson Cano. He was out for the eighty games with the came back here over three seventeen should be hitting three seventeen for the Mets. Well, you know, listen who isn't skeptical of the trap door opening and then getting to twenty out of Robinson canot God forbid, but the bottom line is there right now as we speak a little bit of a better team. I would like and getting familiar back for the bullpen. I'm okay with that. I that doesn't make me do cartwheels, but nonetheless cements are a little bit better with the rest of the division getting better. But it's so important. That and look at the Phillies if they go and get the metro, and they're better, and you and Washington may resign Bryce Harper and Miami if they don't trade people like real mood, though. I mean, they're always a painted the truck with the metropolitan. So the Atlanta Gore's all of these teams are getting better and making additions and improvements. The Mets their last four signings. I'm keeping count their last four signings. Minor league contracts. Billy is calling from New Jersey at Billy you're on the fan. Thank you for taking the time. Happy new year everything. Hey hour you. And happy new year to you too for sure. So. Yeah. Getting on my nerves. First of all the Boeing. And it's great. I question. Number one. Why would he didn't bring up? The fact. That he had a meeting with the media without what was. Purpose. Well, he did he did bring it up. Why do you consider him to be a bully? Why do I get him to the Boeing deal? He comes to costs. You know, what I mean ourselves way about him? But this guy was like. Know, it's a lot of players in the pack. You know, veteran players that always thinking them. Visit. But he seems to even the owner of the Panthers the wrong way. And I gotta remember. Job today meetings. Well, well, don't you think you ought to be considering as he said yesterday? Don't you think you ought to be considering the present as well as the future of the New York football giants? Presently defense. I mean what we do here. Oh, that's the big issue. There's no question about it. I mean and he brought that up the yesterday. He didn't say. Go ahead. Go ahead. Layers. This is a joke. Eighteen. In a year. Interested on the field. Great. Well, first of all a couple things here. That's interesting. Even though I have I have respect for the man. And I loved his press conference. He wanted to kick ass and got his ass kicked instead eleven times during the course of the season. So he failed in his first year. And I can understand if there are giants fans unhappy with him he wanted to win this season. And it didn't work out at all. And a lot of it. We yeah, we know from the one and seven and they were not scoring points and with a new coach and a new staff and the offense of line stunk and soda ally. Manning, let's be honest about it and outside. Then you have some injuries as interesting to bring up with the defense and Vernon Vernon. He was under welcoming this season overall now last game against now is he had two and a half sacks. I believe but that's a little bit too late in the game. When you're talking garbage time. But the bottom line is no he was under welcoming. The defense was awful. They couldn't make a stop in the second half of the fact that the giants lost so many close games that they should have one. Should I love it? When we all talk about that, they should have won. But they didn't. And the reason they didn't is that they didn't outscore from the offense. Even when there were scoring because the debate couldn't hold anyone down as specially in the second half where it's not so wonderful. They lost close games that could have one you're trying to put a positive spin on a terrible season awful season. Manning, by the way, was part of the problem. I mean, he could he li- manning will be able to throw probably when he's fifty years old. He's probably going to be able to play with his grandchildren and play catch and have them go out for a long vertical passes. They may not all be accurate, but he can all have the arm. However, it's interesting, and Peter, and I were talking about this before the program in the very beginning. When you get drafted your you get into the NFL, you're in the NFL, and from college, even if you're a terrific college player normally what everyone will tell you the number one adjustment that everyone makes going from college pro is the speed of the game. Now, if you fast forward to the end of your career the speed of the game also is a sign and signal. That it may be time for you to retire. And this is where Eli manning comes into play. He hasn't got that look at the defenders going after him there twenty five or twenty six they're strong. They're quick they're fast. And and listen, they'll breathe heavy on you and still get called for a sportsmanlike or laid it. But nonetheless, you get the point he like can't get out of the way anymore, and he wasn't fleet of foot to begin with wasn't mobile to begin with. And that's where we are with quarterbacks twenty eighteen going into twenty nineteen. It's Baker Mayfield who could do with his legs who can do with his arm it Sam darnold who is not Lamar Jackson with that kind of speed. No. But is a base of enough mobile enough could move the pocket enough to bide some time and get away from some heat and pressure. Dr. Donald is twenty nineteen. Anyway, manning is not. And I think everyone knows that. And I think even manning knows that then he may be the starting quarterback for the New York football giants in twenty nine teen. And get woman said that yesterday as none cattleman is not a bully. He's a no nonsense guy and pulls no punches. That's the bottom line with him. And he knows what the problem is. Now, it's up to him to fix it. He guessed wrong. They all wanted to win in twenty eighteen they thought they could compete with the receivers with the running back. The defence everybody thought the giants would contend, and what turned out to be a very weak NFC east at remember when we thought the giants would never get to twenty points. They scored more points in anybody else in the NFC east. The deep pants was off. Awful at dreadful and pedophile at that more than the offense and offensive line. You could always use a little bit of an upgrade. But when they got Brown from the Rams to play right garden, they moved what's his name over to center. Bottom line is offensive line. Although they weren't playing against great defensive teams had a better second half than we saw with the first half going four and four in the final late games. Bottom line is why manning I mean, maybe the starter? But the giants have to be thinking beyond Eli manning who turns thirty eight today nine hundred nineteen and twenty five seconds the time, and we have another is it forty minutes, even I can figure this out. So no from the one eight seven seven three seven six six six six and no Dez it is time for the flash. Erica..

The weird twist in the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry

"He is Marty Smith who spent most of the year in Alabama or so it seems but today he is in Columbus Ohio getting ready for the big game up there mardi thanks for. Joining us set the scene for us in Ohio. We know Apollo good evening. Yeah. You're right. I think I had five Alabama games this year. Maybe six I don't know most of them. But I'm up in Columbus right now. It's getting cold outside. It's going to be nasty and rainy tomorrow, and we're in the lobby here at the Woody Hayes athletic center, and they are getting ready, man. It's it's fun to talk to the coaches and the players about this rivalry, you know, growing up in the south as I did. And you know, you've lived there your whole life as well. We look at at the iron bowl, which you guys are at and we all know about Janki Red Sox and all of those great rivalries. But this one's extremely special. It's kind of boring off of respectful hate for one another. They don't hate the man, but they hate the establishment on the other side of the football. And of course, it was all born in a fight over Toledo all those years ago. So when you're fighting over Toledo brother, it makes for a hell of a good rivalry. I was reading about that today coming over here. Toledo for those who don't know is fairly close to the Michigan line. It's also where urban Meyer in Jim Harbaugh were both born same hospital about seven months apart. And and it's pretty amazing Marty how a city in Ohio could be is amazing right in the middle of it. All. Is what blows my mind is what you just said. It's funny. I wrote an essay kind of really chronicling the hatred between the schools and the foundation of the rivalry and the evolution of the rivalry with both sham Boeckler and Woody Hayes in the ten year war and then the two thousand six game the game of the century on and on. And there's so many indelible moments any whether it's Desmond our boy flashing the flesh and the I'm actually staying in the Ohio State lobby right now. Maybe I shouldn't be mentioning those things or Charles Woodson running punts back and all those amazing moments, and I was floored when I learned that urban and horrible we're both from Toledo born into Lido. And then I was even further shocked by the fact that it was the same
