"The dove. We begin with guys that are blurred over by the cataracts of sin. When the cataracts have been removed, washed away, like we burned our eyes with a chemical and the baptismal fund is standing by brake glass to wash eyes to clear your eyes. And then the light of mount tabor is put in our eyes and with that light we can see the world differently. But we can see the world the way it was meant to be seen. So that we could do the world, the way it was meant to be done. As eucharist and that as avarice gluttony, envy, lust, passionately. The purpose of liturgy is to lead to our deification, which doesn't pluck us out of the world yet it lets us see and do the world correctly because the form, the light, the light of mount tabor, the deifying light, is now within us. When Ambrose writes about his cat acumens having gone through the baptismal font, and now coming out as brand new neophytes, he says, how beautiful the church is in them. There's a slip of grammar. He's not talking about them going into the church. He's saying in baptism, the church enters into them. And now they see the world with different eyes. And that's the witness that Christians give. Why don't you react the same way that these others don't? Well, I don't see it that way. I see this occasion in the light of heaven. Why don't you grieve like others do? Well, we don't grieve without hope. Why don't you crushed when you were passed over for this promotion? Well, it's not the most important thing in my life. I have a latria. I'm not giving the trio to this accomplishment. I have somebody another object for the vitria. We all have little taste and instance of that right when you first fall in love, things that were the most important to you now kind of disappear. I watched my son love to play hours of trying to remember which gaming system he had PlayStation, I think. And he got married and still played a little bit, then they had kids and the PlayStation is in the attic somewhere. Sorry, kids. I can't play with you or read your stories right now. The PlayStation is the most important thing in my life. Your lifelong process is God drawing euphoria by one good, only to have you draft it because there's another greater good, only to have you drop it, so there's another greater good. And this is something that C. S. Lewis and Charles Williams talk about under their category of romantic theology. This was something that gave rise to my notions in consecrating the world. There's nothing wrong with money sex or beer. But you dropped them to move to a greater good. And we've all experienced it at one point, why can't we experience it later? "What's funny though is that you have this back and forth. Between these two characters, which is different from the other books. So even though I was still argue that the ransom trilogy is a good name for it, this third book does take the spotlight off of ransom and focuses on the married couple Jane and Mark studded. And their relationship with each other and then when they're apart, it kind of flips back and forth. We go from focusing on Mark to then next chapter we might be over here with Jane and what she's doing. Which is very different structure from the first two books. And it's such a bizarre book. There's just no way around it. I don't know. I mean, can you compare to anything? I almost don't know that I can compare it to anything. I haven't found anything quite like it. Because you have still have that thread of planet interplanetary, the medieval cosmology. But between par landra and that he is strength, Lewis became really good friends with Charles Williams, who was known for his arthurian scholarship. So he was arthurian myth and legend was his one of his specialties. So Louis just became captivated and enraptured with that. Again, his was the personality where anything that he was kind of really into worked its way into everything, right? He wasn't he was very much a whole person, right? He couldn't just be like, oh, and that's my hobby off to the side. That came out in his writing. So the whole idea was Merlin and Merlin, the figure of Merlin is resurrected in the book. Yes. That hideous strength. And we're running out of time here, but it really is that idiot strength seems like a prophetic book for today. I've never seen anything like that definitely. It is creepy, you want to talk about deep state, demonic, whatever you want it to. It just really creepy, powerful, well,.

"Folks, I continue my conversation with James como, COO, professor emeritus of rhetoric and public communication, founding member of the New York C. S. Lewis society, his books include many essays, long and short fiction, poetry, mystical peril ander, which I'm holding in my hand is his 5th book on C. S. Lewis, what does that tell you? It tells you that there are four other books on C. S. Lewis. One is called C. S. Lewis at the breakfast table. One is called branches to heaven, one is called why I believe in Narnia, and then more recently C. S. Lewis a very short introduction. So you were just saying that in the 60s, you read this Jeffrey Hart article in national review, and you bump into C. S. Lewis, but you bump into him, he was professionally an academic who wrote literary criticism. So this is not the popular Lewis that we know the author of all these popular books. No. But what struck me in Hart's article, was that this man is at the Pinnacle of his profession. He is the leading medievalist. In English literature, undisputably that. Correct. And a Christian apologist at the same time. Right there in the heart of academia. That's where I am. And I'm a believing Christian in the heart of an unbelieving, very hostile academia. I have to find out more about this guy. Which he struck me and has always struck me as a very, very brave man, which of course he was in World War I. You know, he saw combat in the trenches in World War I. But very brave. He takes on the hardest questions with the hardest audiences. Debate anybody, right? Route the field. And yet is this most respected English

"Make her mine. How's the live version of that song that was on, which album was that on Abbey Road? Yeah. Yeah, it was like, it was like Abbey Road ended, and then there was nothing, nothing, nothing, and all of a sudden they threw this in. I think it was kind of a little insight. I can't imagine, I can't imagine that sir Paul would not perform at the gym. Yeah. But I'm a little surprised by the whole lineup. Honestly, it doesn't seem like I'm surprised that the queen is a big fan of Alicia Keys or some of these other like Duran Duran. You don't really know, I don't think she queen jamming out to hungry like the wolf. No, I'm sure that they realize that they want to have a wide sort of viewership, different because it's all different ages. The performers. Julie Andrews, that would probably be her favorite, right? It'll be interesting to see her. I'm surprised Julie Andrews, because Julie Andrews, from what I understand, she can't sing anymore. Oh, is that right? I didn't know that. Yeah. Yeah, it's been heartbreaking. I did read something very interesting. Just the other day about the queen of England. And it was somebody had asked the question, do you think the queen because she appears to be struggling with her health right now and grief over the loss of her husband? Will step down and Charles will become king. And the answer is absolutely not because when Elizabeth was crowned, she gave a speech to the people of England and she said, I will devote my entire life to your service. And that is a promise. And so there's no way that she's going to people close to her, say, that is like a sacred bow to her. There's no way she'll step down. The closest that this can come to happening is, if she really is in such poor health that she can't continue, then Charles would be, I think the title is regent. He could take over some of the duties of The Crown, but he will not be king while she lives for that reason. And it's kind of beautiful and noble that she believes that she made a solemn promise and she's going to keep it. What do you think? Yeah, I mean, it does sound like her. You can say what you want about the royal family, but she's always conducted herself and I think a very dignified admirable way. I saw a picture of her the other day and she looked great and people were saying, oh, look how great she looks. Look how wonderful she looks now. So maybe some things have been going her way. The other thing about her not stepping down off the throne with and I did not thank you for telling me that that I didn't realize that she'd made that promise. She, you know, was in London when London was being bombed. As a young girl, 12, 13 years old, something like that. And so they've always had her with them kind of. As an example of putting your children. Grit, so I could see that happening. It is, it is kind of for Charles. I mean, he'll be close to 80 if when he steps up to the throne. If he steps up to the throne, so that's getting up there. Related to that, the other thing I read was that the queen was the most overjoyed of anyone at Prince William and duchess Kate's marriage at the wedding because after the vows and they were pronounced man and wife, she allegedly turned to someone and said, the monarchy is secure. She always knew it would be William. She always knew what would be William. Well, the two of them are. Charles wealthy king for a minute. Yeah. And Charles Williams, they're both very stable people. I think that's probably a lot of what she was thinking. So yeah. So it'll be interesting to see if sir Paul is invited to the queen. It's bob and sherry. "Pierce is here. Hello. I'm your friend who will always share his Netflix password. Always. No questions asked. No matter what. You can VPN into my house. And even when we break up and you keep ruining my Netflix recommendations, I will not take away your access because I'm just that good a person. It's funny because I want to take away max's access because she's really ruining my recommendation. It's huge problem. It's the children, once they're in there, Netflix has no idea what. Is it just all CoComelon now? It's all compelling. Liam are prediction on the virtuous and create in the producer of decoder, both worked on a kids show called Gabby's dollhouse, which is great. And max likes it, and I'm happy to support those two. I just don't need it in my recommendations. I've always thought Netflix needed a button that's just like a regret button where you're like, I should never have watched this. I'm so sorry. Please take this out of my recommendations forever. They were supposed to give this one. We were supposed to get like a forget button. Okay, I want to talk about that in a minute. First of all, I just want to point out David was like employee wanted the verge in 2010. True. You've been on a journey through the wilderness, and now you're back. Yeah, it was just I was just looking for you looking for love and looking for new. It's all it was. For years. I miss you too. No, it's both very weird and very good to be back. It kind of feels like no time has passed. It also feels like it has been a literal eternity since I have done a verge cast. Yeah. You were on stage with us at the ten year event with Joanna, but I think the last time was like 7 years ago, formally that you did a virtuous with us. Yeah, still, mercifully the only time anyone has made me cry on a podcast. Which is a thing I would very much like to keep. Welcome back, David. We've got a new goal for you, buddy. If we don't get to tears the next 90 minutes, I don't know what we're doing here. Listen, if CNN plus can't do it to me, nothing can. So let's talk about the news. David's here. Everybody welcome him. You can tweet at him. He's at pierce. It's great. It's great to have you here. We're very excited. We've got big plans to expand the show with David. You're going to see him on the site in a bunch of ways. It's going to be fun. All right, let's talk about streaming. And really what I want to talk about is not CN plus or Netflix losing subscribers. I want to talk about this very simple idea that you just brought up, which is every streaming app should have a button that's like play, but don't count it. Yes. I call it the I feel bad about this button. Yeah. Don't put this in your data. I want it for Spotify. I want it for everything. I want to listen to this thing or watch this thing, but please don't tell anyone and don't remember that I did it. I would use it all the time. That's all I want. Incognito mode basically. Yeah, the show ain't a hit that play, but don't pretend that this was, I did this. This time I feel about Moon Knight. I'm watching that shit. But I don't think that this is a good show. Could anyone should be watching? Right, yeah, I don't want you to hold this in your viewership metrics. I don't want you to use it to decide how much money you're going to pay Oscar Isaac. This sucks, and I want you to know it, but I am going to watch it. If ever Disney+ releases metrics on Moon Knight, I'm just going to follow that on me. But minus one. I didn't do that willingly. It was just Wednesday and nothing else was happening. Sorry. It's a very bad thing. We're going to have Charles William Moore, our new TV critic on the show soon to talk about all the startup shows, and I really just want to talk to you about moonlight the whole time. So don't tell him. He thinks he's coming on to talk about super pumped and we crashed and all that. It's just an hour of me being like, why did they make an ABC TV movie from the 90s on Disney+? That is the level of quality of the show. I'm sure there are Moon Knight fans out there, and I encourage you to tweet it. I have not watched Moon Knight and now it's a hell of a sales pitch. You just did. I can not wait. It's so bad. It has the production quality of your sea quest DSV. It's right in that pocket. Also as a talking dolphin, it's wild how similar they are. What's going on in the show? Anyway, the actual streaming services we were going to talk about. What sort of Netflix? Because Netflix is a juggernaut. I think it's going to be fine, but they just saw subscribers for the first time in over a decade. They announced they're going to do an advertising tier. And they are going to crack down on sharing Netflix accounts the same password across households. That's a lot of change. And I would say people lost their minds. Yes, when all this happened. So I would say my big take on this is that two of those three things you just said are super, super interesting. I think the fact that Netflix lost 200,000 subscribers in a quarter is like a small thing worth noting, but not ultimately the harbinger of anything long term. Everything changes. There are only so many humans in the world who will ever subscribe to Netflix. Those numbers are going to go up and down a little more than they have. That does not strike me as all that interesting. I think the ad future of Netflix is fascinating. And I think the password thing is going to be super interesting. And it was really incredible to watch the response to this because everybody went from Netflix is the juggernaut. It's the future of TV to in the course of one earnings release, being like, well, Netflix is over. So I have to do this closures. Vox media is a company. We all work at it. NBC, which owns peacock, which streaming service NBC is minority investor in Fox media, which we all work at. That's done by Comcast Comcast. The verge is making a Netflix show. It's actually coming out soon. It's gonna be really exciting. I'm the EP of that show. Vox media as a company makes shows for all these streaming services. There's a show on CNN plus which we're going to talk about. The vox has shown Netflix. All the things you could think of, but our show is our show, and we get to say whatever we want. I just make the disclosures. That's the disclosure block. You can't tell me I didn't. You did it. That was great. I wear it like Moon Knight. Where's the suit? All throughout moonlight, there's just like where the suit and he's like, no, it's like, that's your whole job. That's the one thing we want to see from you. How do we segment that back to Netflix? The one thing we want to see from them is more subscribers. Yes. So Netflix loses 200,000 subscribers. There's some underlying data stuff to think about there because they left Russia so they hadn't left the Russian market and maybe they would have picked up slightly, but it doesn't matter because net, they lost 200,000 subscribers. They are focused on that subscriber lost, particularly in North America, which is a big, big deal. This is the market that saturated. And they are attributing it to. There's a lot of competition now. There is Disney+ is Apple TV plus Apple TV plus just want an Oscar, their show is really good..

"Charles William junior, Trevor, can we get THT for Christian wood? So most likely Christian Woods at about 13 million in change, so most likely what you're talking about there is packaging up THT and probably none in order to get the deal done because THT is about 9 and a half million, add in a player like Kendrick nun and then you're right there is THT enough for the rockets, well if the rockets are fully committing to a rebuild, he's a young player. He's an intriguing talent, maybe, but there's gonna be a lot of teams after Christian wood also, so with the Lakers have to add in something 2027 is the first time they can trade a first round pick, but it's interesting. I think the one thing we can say for sure, for sure, the Lakers are gonna be involved in a lot of discussions because that's just the way rob pulling operates. He leaves no stone unturned. The Lakers are going to be involved exploring every single opportunity and if something pops up that makes sense, I think they're going to do it. I think at this point, they're not going to pump the brakes and say, well, chemistry reasons, you know, we don't want to try to shake things up too much. This team has already been completely shaken up. They only had three players come back from last season. So I think if there's an opportunity to add a skill set that they need or a talent upgrade somewhere that they feel like they can really make a difference with, I think they're going to do it. Obvi B from YouTube. Said Russ free throw bricks, a bad turnover to Lonzo and layups late killed us. Yeah, I mean, look, it was a it was a number of plays that just did not go the Lakers way down the stretch that ultimately caused them to lose. I mean, Russ had the nice spin move, got to the rim and then missed on vucevic. That was certainly a, I mean, that was a rough moment, right? Where you expected a basket to be scored there and it just wasn't down the stretch, the bulls executed better. So as a result, they walked away with the win. Let's see what else we've got here. Hugo Martinez Trevor if these struggles continue past the trade deadline, what happens to the team moving forward? You're going to see a very different team next year. That's just the reality. I think no matter what happens, you're going to see a very different team next year. Most of the guys on this team are on one year deals, especially all these veteran minimum guys. Westbrook has one year after this year assuming he picks up his option, which he would imagine he probably will, but at that point, he's an expiring contract. And so even Westbrook becomes more movable next off season. I'm not saying he's an easy contract to move at 45 million. That's very difficult. Contract to move. But expiring makes him a bit more movable. So I think no matter what happens, you're going to see a very different looking Lakers team next year. Next year, you're going to see a different look and team..

I mean, I find it to be one of the great it should be taught alongside Paradise lost in 20th in survey courses of 20th. I keep saying to him, survey courses of western literature. It's genius. It's a retelling of Paradise lost. It's incredible. And that hideous strength, what do you even make? It's prescient its prophetic. It is amazing when you read that you think we're living through this now, unfortunately. But a lot of people aren't familiar with those books, but per landra and that hideous strength. It's not released based children. I don't know what it is. But it's kind of like Narnia for adults. Well, it's pretty Narnia too. And it was pre Narnia. Yeah. Well, those books are just their genius. They're just out of the crazy, amazing books. But he wrote poems, some of them are great, one of my favorite ones is the one that I was there in 1998 when they put it up in Addison's walk behind the colleges behind Marlin college where he was, whereas rooms were and where I bumped into you one day. Do you remember that? Yes. You were this was before you gave you anyway. I remember bumping into you on Addison's walk. It's a beautiful place. It is where Lewis came to faith in some

"There for the Cougars. 24 tackles already. Meanwhile, they take on ASU and I like Ricky Pierce saw this guy is like a triple threat there for the Sun Devils were shot. Wait at the back field. They've got Wilson and Bunkley Shelton as well pretty good receivers Butler and so I'll pretty good rule linebackers as well. For a sus you on the road minus 3.5 52 total from Provo. I like the spot there's on state catching BYU off their biggest one in a while. I mean, if you watch the game, that's up. I like the one Super Bowl. So, uh, play against BYU and that spot castle like the under eye. Just motif defense is Have the advantage of the opponents are the opposing offenses. Both teams coaches are conservatives so under for me as well. Iowa state brought partying company off that disastrous turnover performance at home. The Cyclones losing the sidewalk trophy to Iowa and again as Brad told you, Iowa only 177 yards of total offense but still found a way to get it done with their solid defence brief hall. He's got to do better than what he's done. 39 carries 1 38 on the grounds got a couple touchdowns. He's a good receiver out of the backfield as well. And they did get tight and Charlie Koller back last week to help out Wilson and Milton. As far as receiving wise will McDonald the fourth leading the way with that Iowa state defense. They have a solid linebacking corps as good as anybody's in the country and then decors. Is a guy that also Can help out there with broad party He got in for a little bit of action. Their backup quarterback for you know, V. Doug Broomfield. You know, he goes back and forth with Rogers. But Broomfield is the guy now because he can run he can throw. They've yet to throw a touchdown pass. Charles Williams been the workhorse. They don't really have much of a receiving game right now. But I do like the way that women plays that linebacker position and A jockey as well. Those guys 39 tackles between them for the Rebs Rebs recovered against Arizona State. Now they're going to catch 32 a half up to 33 some places at Allegiant Stadium 52 a half the total bread. I didn't play it. I'll be in attendance. I they don't have more fans than you and I'll be. But I like that kind of number on the road. Uh, but I'm not betting on your only either until I could status of the quarterback. Fresno State at U C L. A Fresno State. Uh Catching 10.5 up to 11. Some places are it's stated 11. That's where it's hit. 63 63 a half the total Ronnie Rivers and Jordan memes in the backfield. They've got killing a cropper. We've fallen Pope, decent receivers. I like Jake Hainer. I think the youngster has got eight touchdowns. No pics has done a great job for Fresno State, and they were that close to beating Oregon. I mean, can you imagine how deflated Oregon would have been going into the horseshoe? Instead they go in there. They're sky high because they came back beat Fresno. They're missing three defensive starters, including Thibodeau, and they get the win over Ohio State. Fresno State that closer to winning up at Autzen Stadium. U C L A off of by Remember that Sharpen a transfer from Michigan and they've got dull. Such an excellent tight end Kyle Phillips, not a bad receiver. It's going to be a good one. But U C l A. To me is a team that I don't want to get in front of as much as I respect, president stated Spanish, his team in for instance, state maybe without their starting center whose dad passed away and, uh, 63 63 a half is the total. Where you going on this one. I'd like you feel, um you know, I like both teams want to bet on both teams. But, you know, I thought there was slight value on the Bruins. I think they you know that it was good that they had to buy after the big one against L issues so Dragon Knights will reset for him. Just think they're not blind experiments. They beat up president there well, but there you go in the last game, Santa's a state minus seven now across the board, where a lot of 6.5 but seven now Coming off the bye at San Jose State. Next article, Tyler and Evans in the backfield, along with good, solid tight end Derek East Junior, But Santa's a state they you know they lose the USC, they beat Southern Utah. A team that also went down and played a issue and then Hawaii with Cordero will try and take care of business. It's the fourth game already for Hawaii. They day Hunter in the backfield. Not bad. He's a dual threat out of the backfield. Martin and Turner and Jared Smart needs to do more because Martin and Turner of done their job, but Jared Smarts been quiet. Compared to those two on LaSalle has 19 taxes to lead the Rainbow Warriors. They are catching seven at home 62 from Honolulu. Numbers fair. It's right on my number at seven. So, uh, don't that for me? All right, real quick. Just your take FCS FBs games. Anything that jumps out that still has value for the listeners if they can get down Uh huh. I kind of like Delaware against Rutgers. As long as you're getting more than 21, so By price would be 21 a half or more so that Delaware against Rutgers. And just want to got to ask because I'm curious. What about my leathernecks of western Illinois at home against Eastern Washington, Plus 9.5? Uh, well that night and has thank one book. I had to soft number because it's and I can tell you if it's not soft somebody needs from Washington. That number is way off my opinion that the numbers should be well in the double digits. Sorry, K p. No, that's okay. That's alright. Just I just I look if I can make money I'll think of money. These are Washington Lane to it. You and all the right on a neutral world. I mean, would you be back here all the seventies Western all night? Yes, I would. So there you go. Alright. Good stuff. Brad Powers. Alright Saints at Panthers Panthers Right now, Plus 3.5. There are some threes minus juice but mostly 3.5, now on New Orleans, But I'll tell you what Jamie's Winston looked really solid. I know the game was in Jacksonville and Aaron Rodgers did not play a good game, but that's part of New Orleans. They came to play and I let Sean Payton Carmichael runs a pretty good offense, and I think Jamie's Winston's matured and not the same, You know, gun slinger that's going to be thrown a lot of interceptions like he did at Tampa Bay. I liked what I got from Carolina. They were one of my players last week. Jets came back had begotten a two point conversion. I would have pushed that game It would have been upset, but they end up covering the game your take on this one. McCaffrey and the guys at home does not rule get a win there. Does he get a cover or to the Saints Keep rolling. Yeah. I don't think you ever is good or bad. You're looking weak one from the NFL, So I'm going to play against how great New Orleans Look, they've had covid issues. They got injury issues. I like the home dog outright. Wow. There you go. All right, so you and I'll go a ham sandwich on that one. I'll take. I'll take the saints there. I'll give you 3.5. I respect that rule. I like him a lot. But I just think New Orleans is is pretty solid, and I think they're moving forward without Thomas, the receiver. They're going to play it like he's not going to be there. Texans and Browns Browns up to 13 and I agree with the move 48 the total. This is one of my players that I got on early Look, Cleveland gave the game away against Kansas City. I thought they really dominated the Boche point. I mean, it's absolutely unexcusable that you don't roll out to your right and then try to kick the ball. That's just, you know, brain malfunction there, but Cleveland to me, they'll be back. Unfortunately, we'll probably have to go through Kansas City again because of the tiebreaker scenario, although I still expect Cleveland To win that HFC north. I did make a bet with Mr Brad Powers. He's got the Baltimore Ravens. Good luck with that. Uh, Cleveland and Houston. David Cully Houston. Very impressive in that first game..

"To 2014 brother Winford was the voice of the international Gospel Hour. We are blessed here at international gospel Hour to have transcripts of lessons he prepared and delivered. Finding these are an absolute treasure to me. So today, remembering my brother and friend Winford Claiborne. I'm honored to deliver a lesson that he did some years ago titled Thinking of Christians as being strange. Let's study together with Brother Claiborne. Are there places where Christians cannot go, such as casinos, saloons, beer joints and houses of prostitution. Why can we not go to such places and engage in the activities at those places? Is it because we are simply old fashioned and not keeping up with the modern world. You may have heard someone say, you mean you do not drink or gamble or committed adultery? What are you living for? Is it possible? The Apostle Peter nailed the situation for Christians. In first Peter 43 and four for the time past of our life may suffices to have wrought the will. The Gentiles When we walked in last seriousness, lost excessive wine, reveling banqueting is an abominable I dull trees. Wherein they think it's strange that you run not with them to the same excess of riot speaking evil of you. Our study today will focus on the theme thinking of Christians as being strange from first. Peter 41 through six. Peter's first Epistle warns Christians they will suffer for the cause of Christ, he wrote concerning Christians suffering beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial, which is to try you. As though some strange thing happened unto you, but rejoice inasmuch as you are part acres of Christ sufferings. That when his glory shall be revealed, you may be glad also with exceeding joy. If you be reproach for the name of Christ happier you for the spirit of glory and of God rests upon you on their part. He is evil spoken of, but on your part, he is glorified. Well, let none of you suffer as a murderer or as a thief or is an evildoer or as a busy body in other men's matters. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name First. Peter 4 12 through 17. We know Christ sufferings or examples for us in first, Peter 41 for as much then as Christ has suffered for us and the flash arm yourselves likewise with the same mind for he that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin. There is this difference between Christ suffering and are suffering. The sufferings of Christ paid the debt for our sins. Paul explain that truth to the Corinthians for I delivered until you first of all that which also I received how that Christ died for our sins, According to the Scriptures, first Corinthians 15 3. Our suffering is because of our commitment to the cause of Christ. Peter urged his readers arm yourselves. Likewise, with the same mind that is with the mind of Christ. We understand the significance of that admonition when we read Ephesians 6 10 through 18. Christians must put on the whole armor of God that we may be able to stand against the wiles or methods of the devil. Peter explained. The meaning of our suffering for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin. Not all suffering is honorable. Suffering for righteousness sake is When a man suffers in the flesh for the sake of God's kingdom. Does that mean he has completely ceased sinning? It means that he no longer makes a habit of sinning. The Apostle John explains from first John 39, who so ever is born of God does not commit sin for his seed remains in him, and he cannot sin. Because he is born of God. Charles Williams renders Verse nine. No one who is born of God makes a practice of sinning because the God given life principle continues to live in him. And so he cannot practice sending because he is born of God. When a Christian suffers for righteousness snake he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flash to the lust of men, but to the will of God. First, Peter 42. Whatever time you and I have to live in this world, we are not to live to satisfy our fleshly lust. Instead, we are to live to fulfill the will of God. If we arm ourselves with the mind of Christ, we will not live in sin. Paul asked the Romans. What shall we say? Then? Shall we continue in sin? That Grace may abound. God forbid. How shall we who are dead to send live any longer Therein? Roman 61 into The Apostle Peter explains why some people think Christians are strange. From first Peter 43 and four for the time past of our life may suffices to have robbed the will of the Gentiles when we walked in lasciviousness lost excessive wine, reveling banquet teens and abominable adulteries. Where in? They think it's strange that you run not with them to the same excess of riot speaking evil of you. Let us examine what Peter meant by working the wheel of the gentiles. The Gentiles walked in last deviousness, The Greek word translated lasciviousness appears infrequently in the New Testament. In fact, the word as used appears only nine times in the New Testament. It has always rendered either lasciviousness or wantonness from Romans, 13 13 or filthy second Peter 247. In his book. New Testament words. Dr William Barclay defines the word to mean. Wanton insolence that is lost a shame. Page 62. Dr Barkley quotes JB Lightfoot, the distinguished English scholar who says that such a man shocks public decency. Page 60. W E vine defines the word. Denotes excess licentiousness. Absence of restraint, indecency and wanting this Vines Dictionary page 6 40..

"Entered into a kind of relationship that has continued to grow and has become very intimate very dear mostly. Because i believe that i could you know and i gave myself permission to you. Know every now. And then i'll do a shamanic journey but what i did is i took what i learned from doing shamanic journeys and i brought it back to my own faith and i do now what i call imaginable prayer so every morning i get up and if the sun hasn't come up yet then i will meet jesus in his carpenters workshop and if the sun is up then i know he's down by the beach meet him there but wherever it is i meet him you know. This is all active imagination. You know i give him a big hug. He calls me love. We sit down together. He asked me. What's on my heart. And i just kind of pour out. How feeling what. I'm worried about what i hope for all of the things that i am kind of carrying around with me and i just kind of lay it before him and mostly he just listens often. He has amazing things to say. That i never in a million years would have come up with but what i come away from. That with. Every single morning is a feeling of being heard and loved and held. That is a really wonderful way to start every day and that relationship doesn't get old. It just gets deeper and more dear. Charles williams wrote about theology of romantic love. And it's very like that. I really love the the evangelical contemporary christian music that some people call. Jesus is my boyfriend music. But i love it because it really speaks to where my heart is is far as my relationship with him. And you know when i first started preaching that at church it made a lot of people kind of uncomfortable because the only context they had for that kind of talk was that it was sounded very evangelical. I'm about as progressive a pastor's you can find. But i think this is one thing that the evangelical get. Right is the personal relationship with god and for christians comes to us through the person of jesus. Yeah that sort of talk makes me a little uncomfortable. because it's so different than my worldview and yet it does awaken a yearning. I laughed when you brought up trust because from urine is very first conversation. It seems like whatever issue i have brought to you even while what we were talking about was my guide in of other people. It always went back to this. It always came back to trust and it came back to. What do i trust in. And that is an ongoing work in progress from a because what i have learned to trust in our myself which is a good thing to have some trust in right. It's positive to have some trust in yourself. I began to have trust in spiritual principles like kindness and silence and love. And you know those sort of things but a deeper level of trust is hard. And i don't know if i've shared this story with you. I don't want to turn this into a spiritual direction session. But i'd be like this. This is an important topic. And i think it's probably important to a lot of listeners when i got so burr in a twenty five i came into an aa. In nineteen ninety-five in columbus ohio and god and higher power was very much defined sort of as god and jesus and it didn't resonate with me. I didn't really believe it..

"These houses and go, holy crap, somebody's paying me to live like they do for three weeks. Right? What's so bad about that? Nothing months, right? Not a darn thing. And also. And they had a nervous breakdown about some issues that were written, while I'm, I'm using that term loosely. But what I realized is you can be in a ten million dollar home and still incredibly unhappy. I've really really diverged now, however, it was more of a panic attack. I don't want to get ahead of myself and having psychiatrists on the bulletin board reaching out, right? Is it isn't, what's out Thursday? It's what's in here. That shows me that Jackie. It's really it's, what's in your stadium, seating package, less than what's on the. What what's in front of you? I get. That's exactly. Yes. So, yes, I read a beautiful book. One time that was about, was literally about a woman who thought she was. She had been told she was unattractive. She became the queen Because she was unattractive. She never showed her face in public and so, she always wore veils and she created in this fictional World, especially the rock of Hammurabi Hammurabi, whatever. The first set of laws in her kingdom laws that were were for real. For the birth of the lowliest, surf, walk up to the queen. They, they affected everyone and when she died, she what she had thought of herself and she never thought she was good enough, but she never thought she was enough. She thought that she was useless because she was so unattractive. There was there was sobbing and renting in the streets because she had been a just ruler. If she had always thought of other people, what I'm saying is this has nothing to do with Rummikub, but Don't go to that extent. Don't do it, don't do it. It was either written by CS Lewis or a guy named Charles Williams that booked till we have faces, is the name of that book and it haunts me sometimes but it is, it has that sort of larger message..

Jack johnson beat jim jefferies in the fight of the century. Johnson had crossed the racial barrier to claim the championship and defended the crown from white supremacists. Tensions were high leading up to the match and when johnson white the floor with jeffries white americans took it as an insult while black fans through. Spontaneous parades in honor of jack johnson after the victory white mobs took to the streets across the nation in a streetcar in houston texas boxing fan. Charles williams bragged about the jack johnson. Victory then he noticed that a white man had crossed into the car next to him. The man thought charles was rejoicing too loudly so he pulled a knife and killed him in the new york neighborhood of san juan hill. Which would later be replaced with. Lincoln center black community members celebrated after the fight until a white mob descended on the area setting fire to the buildings and blocking the exits with their bodies in wheeling west virginia. Furious crowds marched through the streets. They spotted a black driver in a luxury car. They attacked the driver dragged him to a bridge and hanged him. Meanwhile a black gunman shot a white man in arkansas in washington. Dc alone two hundred thirty. Six people were arrested after two white men were stabbed to death across. Roughly twenty five states mobs rioted in the streets. Major cities instituted lockdowns as their mounted. Police patrolled the city when the crowds didn't disperse. They opened fire turning the streets into a war zone. The total number of deaths and injuries is difficult to count but the official estimate is that between eleven and twenty. Six people were killed in the riots. The vast majority of victims were black. Hundreds were beaten and more jailed by july seventh movie theaters across the nation. Shut down what they believed was fueling. The racial unrest exhibiting a black and white film of johnson jeffries. Fight up until then. It was common to play recordings of big boxing matches in theaters. But the white house declared the film to be a possible source of renewed outrage and yanked it from all venues for decades this vital record of black history went on scene no other movie achieved that level of cultural impact and success again until five years later when the birth of a nation came out despite also depicting racial themes. The film was shown everywhere even in the white house. The reason was obvious in the birth of a nation. The whites won the fight. The violence after the johnson fight largely petered out after a few days. While many americans still struggled to accept jack johnson skill in the ring he had one major backer. Jim jefferies fans tried to excuse the loss by claiming that jeffries was past his prime but the man himself said that wasn't true in his words even in his prime or if he had a thousand more years to train he never would have beaten track. The best man won the fight in the years afterward. Jack johnson became the world's most famous black man but couldn't escape controversy in nineteen twelve. He was arrested for transporting a woman. He had a relationship with across state lines for quote unquote immoral purposes. It was a dubious claim and likely another scheme to drag the chap down after the arrest. Jack johnson went abroad taking on the best boxers across the globe long after his time people still take inspiration from his story. Even when the entire country stared him down. Jack johnson fought back. Thanks for listening today and true crime. I'm vanessa richardson. You can find more episodes of today and true crime. At all. Others spotify originals. I also highlighted that those exact words you know you mentioned the what exuberance and i think it i. It's an example of the exuberance of the forward that the taxes will make a claim like that. Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan's formal step-down from royal duties is set for March 31

"The decision by Prince Harry and his wife. Megan Donncha Sussex formerly Meghan Markle to step back from Britain's royal family now a date attached to it. The couple will officially begin their new life on March. Thirty first they will live in Canada the hoop to retain the title Sussex Royal for their new ventures. It will no longer be allowed to use the honorific royal. So now they have to scrub royal from there at Sussex Royal Instagram page with its over eleven million followers and from their website Sussex Royal Dot com where they sensationally announced. They were stepping back from official duties earlier this year. Prince Harry's marriage to Meghan in two thousand eighteen seemed to herald a change in Britain's royal tradition. Megan was American an actress and women of color but press attention. The New Duchess of Sussex quickly turned ugly and at times racist in a candidate interview last year. Meghan to the pressure had gotten to her. You add this on top of just trying to be a new mom or trying to be a newlywed. It's It's a very real thing to be going. Through behind the scenes to navigate the palace injury. We turn to Max Foster. Cnn's royals correspondent. He's our guest today. Max Thank you so much for joining us. Thank you sir. I want to start with the beginning with a couple when they were introduced to the British public. How were they perceived as a couple every was gripped by this story already because we all knew that? Harry has found someone and the story gradually leaked and then we started with the official sort of nobody there they had a photo opportunity Kensington Palace at your went down to and There were received with joy. I would say Harry is very often perceived as the most popular member of the British Royal Family at a lot of goodwill towards him. He's defined by that moment when he walked behind his mother's coffin every wanted him to be happy and there was this very modern woman hit net which opened up the royal brand probably too much wider audience. She was a slightly older woman who had had a career had been divorced and also was biracial. A lot of people in this country. If I'm frank early on the conversation was while she looks white but obviously then we saw images of mother and she started identify very much as a black woman so that became a big part of the story and that brought in a much wider world as well. I mean the British Royal Family in many people's eyes is seen as the ultimate white institution and in a way should broken that and I think both inside. And outside the institution that was seen as a very good thing because anti-monarchy needs to remain relevant in east harbor wide appeal and she heard singlehandedly widened. It by being who she was. But Max while there may have been a sense of her opening up the modern K. There also was a racist response. Yes so one of the early investigations on this. We teamed UP WITH SOME DATA SCIENTISTS. Who a very strong on racial abuse online their expertise and we did look quite deeply into this and there was a lot of racist abuse online and sort of things. I could never repeat and we try to get to the bottom of this because Ozzy. Harry's issue is always being the tabloids in the UK and what we identified was some undoubted sexism and I'd say probably xenophobia towards her anti-americanism. Some classes comments frowning comments on her way and the way this sort of came to the tabloids initially was some sexist narratives around etiquette so if Kate for example wore off the shoulder dress you'd be described regal. Princess was Megan did it. She'd be breaking protocol. There was this classic story where she had black nail varnish dark nail varnish remember she was Breaking Protocol Austin follow it up and which I thought was ridiculous. Yes I did and of course. There's no protocol a nail varnish in the royal family but a lot of the sort of negativity towards her was around protocol and I think that was quite loaded when you looked online a lot of these narratives were picked up by racists we. It was very hard to identify who the trolls were online. How many there were even. But they're very powerful. There were some very sort of tenuous links to white supremacy some links to the United States groups as well but this was a small part of it I think. Actually a lot of the discrimination was sort of snobbery it was sexist and often that was interpreted as racist as well. I remember when I was reporting on our survey. We interview caught a prominent biracial journalist. Here and she said is a particular issue. Someone who's biracial because they never feel like they fit in and this for Meghan would have been very painful because she's been criticized on so many levels what people outside monarchy will never understand. I don't understand it. Pretty unsettled more than most operate within the system. Is that when you Marietta? Monarchy you give up fundamental human rights the freedom to move around the freedom to vote the freedom to express yourself. You can't express yourself. You can't expressing a political opinion or support a political party because that would compromise the head of state. He's meant to be independent and have cross party support. Macon couldn't express any of her truly felt opinions. I think it's really massive sacrifice to take that role and I. You know a work very closely with William and Charles McQueen in particular and I actually really respect for the way. They've made those sacrifices and they do do it for the roles duty above self all the time. There's a point where Prince Harry actually has a bit of a breaking point with tablets doesn't he? He's had it several times before and after occasion as well. Hari is deeply scarred by his upbringing. If you look back at some of the images Diana you'll see her going up to cameras pushing them away from the kids that didn't have the protections they have now that walk down the street have talk of his all around them. And Harry spoken openly as has William about how they would have to comfort their mother because of the sort of media pressure shoes under and there was lack of sympathy as well because she caught it the media. He's deeply scarred by that. And recently he spoke to it and told them that every time he hears a camera flash or click. He's reminded of his mother's death. They literally blame the Paparazzi specifically for the death of their mother. This is something that's deeply entrenched in Harry Psyche. And it's a mental health issue for talked about that and he hasn't a resolved it so that's where that comes from with him. I was also in Afghanistan with him. I didn't do the interview. It didn't interview. They're talking about how this is pre Meghan. How he never expected to meet a woman who would be able to take on this pressure and I think he eventually felt we couldn't protect Meghan and that's why we came to the ultimate meltdown. Later on before we get to the mountain. No let's spend another moment on Princess Diana obviously in a strange way there are a fair number of parallels with that. You know famously. Storybook wedding watched by I. Think three quarters of a million people around the world or more than that and then that's very very very public dissolution of the marriage and ultimately an extremely public and painful death talk to us a little bit about her legacy and how that plays a role here. Well there's a couple of parallels the media pressure the media intrusion the fact that Dina was the biggest star in the World Megan's not far off flat as a couple they. Certainly I would say. Probably the biggest celebrity couple in the world globally having traveled with them not just in the UK or the US. That's one pressure. The pressure is an internal pressure. I had a story last year which caused real ructions behind palace walls and some very close to the couple talked about the couple not feeling supported by the rest of the institution. I e. the family feeling that they had single-handedly modernized the monarchy and that wasn't valued and that's exactly the sort of language that Diana spoke of as well how the institution was working against her. So I think that's the clear parallel between Meghan and Diana. And if you see some instagram posts. She speaks warmly. She also identifies with Diana. What about their desire for privacy? I watched their original BBC interview around the engagement and they talked about how at the beginning of their relationship. They sort of had five months before they were fully noticed and even their honeymoon. You mentioned how Diana was hounded by the press But obviously we're in an era where forces of social media invade every single space in almost all of our lives. Let alone the royals. How does privacy play a role for this? They were very lucky to stay under wire for that period of time and then eventually it came out in a British newspaper and they wanted to just get to know each other before that onslaught Harry was so aware the pressure that she would come under as soon as she became public and they came out as a couple but he just wanted to give her time to get to know him and presumably define the way they would carry out their public roles to hurry. He absolutely believes he has a right to a private life. And the tension blew up for example around Archie Christenings He received public money to renovate his cottage in Windsor couple of million pounds or so that was seen as taxpayers money and the tabloids. The British media felt that in return for public money. You are a public figure. Therefore you need to allow some access to your life and traditionally that would allow me in pictures at the baby's Christening because the baby is a public figure as well. Harry Mega fundamentally disagreed with that. They felt that they had a right to a private christening. And that's where the tension really fed up between the British newspapers and the couple and that's just the difference they couldn't resolve. They felt they had a right to private life and some in the media felt they did so. Was there a break with the public? Let's say after the birth of the baby archie. I don't know you whether the public has lost faith in them. Necessarily I think it's quite divided. Actually I think the line if if it was crossed for the couple was when they eventually came out and said they wanted different roles and they published a statement and they published a website and transpired that the queen had asked them not to. And they're done so anyway. I think for a lot of British people. That's crossing the line because she's the most revered figure in the country and she seen as a female icon as well more so than Meghan so that was a line that was crossed for the public. Perhaps the have got a huge amount of support particularly amongst young people. I know that America has a huge amount of support. A lot of people cheer her for the way she challenging the institution and refuses to compromise on any values and beliefs and the way she wants to live her life at the same time. There are those that feel that she doesn't have enough reverence for the system and she should have been more clear about her role and how she should fit in before she signed up to marriage and that sounds a bit harsh but ultimately monarchy is built on a hierarchy a hierarchy which is built on the line of succession. So it's the Queen Charles William and George if that breaks then the whole system collapses so never gonNa have a situation where Megan Harry would be on a par with William and Kate. It's just never going to happen because the system breaks down. You can modernize as much as you like. But you can't modernize that element of it. And this idea that she wasn't valued properly. I think for many within the institution many Traditionis is actually her misinterpreting. The reality is that she will always have to walk behind Kate. And William because that's the system really interesting. That's actually something I think. Most Americans it's harder for Americans particularly interrupt their minds around but just to keep us on the narrative briefly. They have the storybook wedding that go in a honeymoon. She announces a pregnancy relatively early Within five months of the wedding they have this beautiful baby and then they go on a trip to Africa. And it's there. They bring along a journalist. Tom Brand and they give them quite an intimate interview. Can you tell us a bit about that? I was there. I interviewed him earlier on as well. In theory it was about the tour and the causes but it became much more personal than that and a couple of moments. Really stand out. One was where Harry talked. He didn't talk about a rift with William but he did respond to a question about a rift with William where he said that they were on different Paul's which was the first public acknowledgement of a difference.
