"Oh secure cargo see guide and nissan owners manual for proper use. All right milliard dollar picks week one as always we're gonna flag some games and then circle back and make the picks. There's a really really really obvious tease this week. The rams are favored by seven half over the detroit. Lions who i think are going to be terrible like actually really terrible. The rams are favored by seven and a half points over the bears. I don't think the bears are going to be able to block the rams. I don't see the rams stumbling out of the gate with this team. That's been built for success with all the super bowl hype with the coaching advantages. They're going to have in this game. Mcvay versus nagy Whatever i'm sure it's going to be an adult in the start. I just don't see a scenario where the bears beat the rams. I don't i don't see a scenario. Where the lions beat the forty niners in. It just seems lodge. Go to tease both of those lines. Down to one and a half I'm going to be more careful with teases this year in this podcast. This one i look at it. Like are the lions beatty. Amir the bears to me. I'm fine. I'm i if if what are those beats this i'll happily Take the money out. A million dollar picks what are your thoughts. I couldn't be more confident in a game than that. San francisco detroit. One and i think san francisco wins big with you. They had the worst defense in the league. The lions last year. They're going up against now. Kyle shanahan who's had all his toys back. This offseason has spent the last three months preparing to unveil all these toys. And you know maybe aaron glenn who's a former jets corner and was a great defensive backs coach in new orleans. It's his first game as a defensive coordinator. He's undermanned on defense. He's going up against. Kyle shanahan fully healthy and that entire Offensive when you add in the fact on the other side. Nick bose's back after missing. Fourteen games last year. The forty niners to the number one defense of the past few years with all those injuries. All those guys are healthy. And i i've heard from a couple people on this game because it seems like it's the obvious survivor thing being like. Yeah but jared goff. Jared goff knows that evens. Jared goff come on directly could not beat that 49ers defense even when it was other guys. And when it's garoppolo golf is oh in three all-time versus the forty niners when garoppolo started. I think it's going to be growing pains for the lions. I don't think they could've asked for a worse opponent week. One i see this as a blow out. And i think you're going to see a bit of trae lance you might see trae lance five to ten times and i'll tell you what aaron glenn first time defensive coordinator first game ever. He's going to be up all night the night before trying to think about. How do i prepare for all this because the niners are coming in. They're not they're not gonna be relenting anything on this one and then the bears at did their offensive line is really bad. Really need to get through a couple of bad games with don. Nagy was seventy one to be. I coach fired which are jumped on. I don't like the anything about the way the first few weeks of this shakes out. They got a week nine. I think a week ten by which would be probably right around the time when they're like all right. We're going to start over. It's the fields era and we'll get a new coach after the year And the rams one of the things. I love about week. One is like there's no surprises in week one. There's no. we were caught napping. Yeah jane you're talking two of the seven or eight best teams against two of the five worst teased so mark. Both of those down can. Can i just because i think everyone and your including on this like all right they they. They are terrible offensive. Line the other side of it at the bears and the rams played a few times over the last couple of years the last two times the bears. They scored ten points one time. They scored seven points another. But then on the flip side of it you know the bears mighty defense and cl- khalil mack On the injury report this week robert. Quinn was on the injury report this week. And i'm not putting you on the spot and asking anyone at home. Can you name a few of the defensive backs on the chicago. Bears corners. The guy's names. It's kim ville door. It's jalen johnson who was a rookie last year. Xavier crawford it's duke shelley this isn't the kyle fuller and adrian ammos and all those guys who are just you know it would give fits with charles. Tillman or whoever. it's not the it's not the bears defense and you talk about matchups. Coaching wise mcvay. Like halcion has prepared for this. Sean desai as a defensive coordinator for the bears. He's thirty eight years old. He's never been a defensive coordinator at any level. He used to be the defensive backs coach. He was a safety coach. Like the big game and they're unveiling this s-o-f-i stadium. They've got the live music concert every celebrity. Like there's a lot of other things that come into play than just hey x. Knows i think the rams weren't away with this one too with you. I think it's a great tees. And i sound like i'm disagreeing with whatever you say but to no no we're gonna disagree later in. Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to throw this with the bucks cowboys outta that line moved to nine and a half by the time. We're doing this. So maybe that line move to. I could ascend point these of it but Look sometimes the teases right themselves. I think where you have to be careful as doing a tease every week. Trying to force the like if the rams.

"Thought the receivers That were in there tonight. Played well jami. Brown stood out. Logan thomas stood out again. Aig really came through tonight and made some big plays. I liked all of their paths receivers. Tonight too bad cam- sims let that touchdown pass from heineke roll around a little bit as he was making his way to the ground which meant it was incomplete. But he's a big target and that was that was a great throw a by heineke On the things that i liked list dustin hopkins three for three. None of them were long thirty. One thirty one and thirty four yards. He had a short kickoff. That may have been intentional. Sometimes in the preseason the coaches wanna see guys on teams covering kicks We know what hopkins can do and kickoffs but there was pressure on him tonight. I think there was no. He didn't have a lengthy kick. They were all chip shots and he went three for three. You know on those chip shots could have been a disaster. Had he missed one of them But rivera seemed confident in talking about him after the game saying as he said last week that it was the operation that he had to get used to the new snapper etc and hopkins was three for three so good for him We don't have to talk about him really This week at all On the list of things that i liked. Let's move it over to the defense I thought a lot of players upfront. All night long played well including some guys in the second half. But i'll start with doron pain. He is such a load to handle. I don't even know what his stats were. I don't know how many tackles he had. I don't know how long he played. But my god he's talented if he can be consistent and be the beast that he has the ability to be on every down look out. I mean at some point if he puts it all together. You know. I'm not saying he's chase young upside but he is a top five to seven talent at the position in the league The defense in the first half they only allowed fifty five total yards in. The run defense was great in these. They were swarming. Everybody front all night long. I thought you until maybe the parts of the second half everybody. Up front was disruptive. Sweat looked good too when he was in there. You know the secondary i thought played. Well the coroner's there was no jackson tonight. No fuller tonight. And i thought saint juiced aka. Charles tillman As he was referred to by the head coach. I thought he stood out in particular. You can see the lengthy you can see the ability to really cover And you know it's it's his. It's his size in. Its his long arms He played that one deep ball. Very well The kid mctyre number thirty five played. Well i thought this safeties landon couns in particular stood out had that big hit on that little boot throw He looks you know healthy. And ready cam curl was in the box early It's really hard to ask much more of the defense. In the first half other than i guess the interception that jimmy morlin should have had instead of just knocking the ball down. You know coming. Out of j m you. All we heard was jimmy. Moreland has a nose for the ball as he anticipates. Well he's always around it and we've seen that you know at times. I thought that should have been a pick. I thought she could pick. That probably had a big return off of it What else on the list of things that i liked. I thought carter's Carter had a good kickoff return. I thought the overall. Here's one thing that i noticed in. It's the second straight week. I've noticed it and it's i think it's a good sign. These games are totally meaningless yet. I think this team has played with great enthusiasm. You know with with excitement. I think the coaching staff is setting a tone here and they've got players that are helping them set. That tone chase young in particular. You know keeps things lively you know. It's a game of energy and passion. And they've got a ton of guys that have a lot of it. And i think that you know it may not be a huge challenge for the coaches to get them pumped up and excited I've seen sort of a readiness in you know an enthusiasm in the first two. Preseason games that i think is just encouraging Anyway i don't think i missed anything i probably did. But that's the list of things from tonight's game that i liked again. I look you know fitzpatrick's the starting quarterback and i'm going to get to him here in a moment And taylor heineke. They went out and tried to find a longer term answer so they weren't sure and probably didn't believe that taylor heineke could be a long-term answer and i'm not about to sit here and tell you that he is. I don't think he probably is for one. He clearly seems to be vulnerable to injury because he's had a bunch of in just the few opportunities that he's had but he does one thing at a very high level And you really can't debate this. He is mobile and he has a knack because of his athletic feel envision to escape pressure and to make a play. You know often we saw tonight. It was with his legs as a runner. You know tonight. He ended up Rushing four times for twenty six yards. We saw some of that in the short opportunities. He had at the end of last year But he also keeps his eyes down the field. Now he's not always accurate when he escapes and makes a throw But he has something that you can't teach there's no doubt about it you know is the rest of of the game that he has good enough. It's very average to me. You know as i said arm. Strength accuracy inconsistent. You know I we'd have to see much more of him to see how quickly he processes. How quickly you know. He anticipates whether he throws guys open or whether he night needs to wait to see guys open how well he reads defense. I mean the one game against tampa was really good But he does one thing at a super high level and that is he's very good at extending plays escaping pressure and making plays He's exceptional at it and you saw it a lot tonight You also saw couple rough place. You know the fumbled the the pick. That wasn't wasn't it was not a good throw couple of throws were inaccurate. But overall i thought you know he was pretty good..

"It and and and i've said this before and i don't say this lightly a lot of his early skills because i was fortunate enough to be charles tillman early in his career and then later in his crew but live is early skills I see a little bit of that and been juiced. I i really do i. Benjamin is a is a guy that really has an opportunity to grow and become something. Really solid misleading. Charles tillman is the cop for benjamin. Saint juice now. They're both tall corners. Rangy corners. Understand this about charles. Tillman charles tillman's one of the greatest defensive back playmakers in the history of the game charles. Tillman is tied for fifth. All time with eight interception returns for touchdown charles. Tillman leads the league all time for defensive backs in forced fumbles forty four forced fumbles during the course of his career. The next closest in terms of a defensive back is brian dawkins who had thirty six during the course of his career. Every other player. That's in front of him. Robert mathis julius peppers. John abraham franey. Jason taylor in chris. Doleman were front seven players. Charles tillman's the only on the list in the top ten of forced fumbles all time. Forty four of them ten behind the all time leader robert mathis. Tillman was just a massive playmaker on a on. Chicago is during that era. Which by the way. Ron rivera was the defensive coordinator in the early part of charles tillman's career and then tillman ended up playing in carolina at the end of his career. And he was on ron rivera team in twenty fifteen that went to the super bowl but this dude and that team in chicago they turn people over. I think ron rivera is looking for players. And i think one of the reasons he a lot of zone in has is he just thinks. Ultimately your defense has to create turnovers. They've gotta have is on the quarterback they've got to have eyes on receivers. They've got to know where the ball is and they've got a. He's got a draft players that have great anticipation ability in great closing ability. I love the cop two tillman. I've no idea if that's who he'll be. I'm just saying that as a fan of the team. Can you imagine if benjamin saint juice is charles. Tillman and jarrett. Patterson is darren sproles. I know coaches. Make cops like this all the time but charles. Tillman is a player that he was around a lot and charles. Tillman is really one of the most underrated defensive backs in nfl history and is one of the greatest playmakers of the twenty first century in terms of a defensive back And by the way also for most of his career a very durable player in chicago on teams. By the way that went to the postseason. You know a lot of those chicago team. Several of them went to the postseason He played in in in a ton of playoff games During the course of his career think he's played in like seven or eight playoff games during the course of his career. Tillman has so really good cop there. we'll see Saint juice sounds like he's gonna make this team. It sounds also like in listening to reverse press conference yesterday because there were questions asked about him about william jackson in about kendall fuller that i think in nickel defense. You're going to see fuller play In the slot with jackson in saint juiced on the outside Fuller they love in the slot and look. That's how he made his name here in twenty seventeen playing in the slot now he may play on the outside start but i think in nickel situations right. Now that would be. My guess would be jackson sane juiced and fuller. You know this is going to be an interesting cut down. You know when you start looking at the corners and how they're going to play on their corners. I know they'll have they buffalo nickel player as well. You know khaliq hudson can play. That cam curl can play that their number of players but i think when we look at the three corners that are in the game in in a nickel situation. You're you're slot corner. Is kendall fuller moving. Over from the outside and benjamin saint juice coming in and playing on the outside opposite William jackson the third so Let's get to the interview with steve buckets and you'll hear the interview. He did with joe gibbs right after these words from a few of our sponsors considering all the special occasions and special events of the last year and a half that have been cancelled or postponed. It's probably been a while since the last time you dress. Stop had.

"He's definitely top ten corner. But i don't think he is better than marlon humphrey just yet. But he's again. He's very young player and pro football. Focus if you put a lot of credit to them for their grades jarrow zander nine. Epf grade compared to marlon humphrey who had a seventy six. But i do think playing field leveled. You've got marlon humphrey with marcus. Peters on the other side which i think should play a factor because jay alexander gets put on a lot more islands and probably a lot more tougher assignment so to speak compared to marlon humphrey but just the playmaking ability out of humphrey for baltimore. I think what sticks out to me He's always around the ball. Any these little more physical at that position and again you're always seeing him flyer on the field looking for that ball trying to make plays try to punch it out like charles. Tillman and that's what. I want my want my quarterback to be physical all my quarterbacks to be involved in the running game in tackling and kind of just have a great feel for the field in general and that's what marlin humphrey does better than a lot of corners. You can make an argument for him. Maybe even top three but marlon humphrey is as good as they come and jay alexander. He's probably right there. That's six seven mark for me. But again i can't argue with jalen ramsey. Who is the best to do it at his position right now. Now he also did a top three toughest wide receivers to garl- guard list in terms and jalen ramsey jalen ramsey Gave some recognition to some guys. That i really think deserved it. And his top. Three wide receivers tough. Why used to guard guys that he winds up against and goes all right. This guy can. This guy can play with me. This guy can truly Is is is difficult to guard. He's difficult to match up against and jalen ramsey. He's a big trash talker. One of the biggest in the league right now and he knows more than anyone It's it's pretty groundbreaking. When he gives guys receivers this credit because he's normally of the camp of No one can. No one can do any anything on me. But his list goes de'andre hopkins oto beckham junior. He said when he's healthy. And julio jones. I mean i love this list. I love odell beckham junior getting the public respect that i think he deserves more of and really i think we need to be appreciating. How good odell is while. He's here while we're watching one of the best receivers to ever do one of the most talented pure talent and athleticism one of the most talented receivers. The game of football has ever seen But he. I has diop diop his credit. John hopkins the consistency. That big playability there. I mean he put against him a lot when judge. Roy hopkins was in houston. He said the reason i say. A judger hopkins's number one is because this is quote. Diop done had twenty different quarterbacks and put up the same numbers year after year after year. If you remember on houston. He was dealing with match. Shaab matt Ryan mallett literally brian. Hoyer used dealing with just the bottom of the barrel in terms of quarterbacks for a while and he's still putting up crazy numbers thousand yard seasons year in year out making absurd catches despite where the ball was placed by despite horrible ball placement. He was there in making plays. And you didn't see any sort of drop off even though he's had some of the best quarterback play for the last three or four seasons in terms of deshaun watson coming in Yet him and now he has cuyler murray in arizona Jalen ramsey said. There's some receivers dog without that quarterback. I don't know if he could be doing what he's doing now..

"With T. J is not for we've had deep We know people love us. We know people care. The reason we share it is to let these other families who were in other hospitals around the country where they're not on a platform that they can share their story who feel alone and feel like they're the only people in the world going through this They're not alone, right, like here those other families out here and we need to raise that awareness and raise that instead. Hey, we're with you were just like each other and let's go through this together, you know, And there's those are really interesting healing component to that that we've gotten a lot of, you know, I called Charles Stillman. When I was a rookie in Chicago, Charles Tillman. His daughter had a heart transplant. And I didn't know Charles that well at the time, but I remember him bouncing back and forth between training camp and not being there and going to hold his daughter had a heart transplant. She was very, very small. She was only a few months old. I called. I spoke to Charles. Eight years ago when we were getting ready to have to JB born. I spoke to Charles three weeks ago. He was one of the first people I called when we got to diagnose to drive leaned on other people, and we've had people reach out to us and tell them how much it's meant to hear our story and how much hope and inspiration it's given them. And we might as well turn something bad into as much good as we can, And that's just kind of been our mindset from day one, and when you post messages On instagram on Twitter all over as you've done, it must elicit an incredible reaction. Do you get all kinds of people reaching out to you? Does it become almost burden? Some, like I sent you a text last week. I'm sure I'm one of hundreds of people to reach out to you almost like when it's your birthday. And there are a lot of people reaching out and after a while, it becomes like it's too much You wish people would just kind of leave you alone a little bit. You know, I think you see both sides of it. I think in the moment it feels overwhelming right? It feels like there's so much coming at you and so many people, and that's and that's what you you know, when we share our story publicly. We know that that's the that's what we're going to put on ourselves. But I also what other people to know like, and that's why I really try to make it a point to respond to every single person. I maybe, miss one or two here and there in the midst of it all, but like I want people to know. How much we feel and appreciate and love the support from strangers to friends to family tip, guys. I went to high school with to NFL coaches around the league who I didn't really know. But like the outpouring from all walks of our lives Has just been. It's been an incredibly humbling experience and two I want people to know by responding back to them that it doesn't go unnoticed. It doesn't go unappreciated, and I think it's important that they hear back and go like, Hey, we're struggling right now. But the fact that you're taking five seconds to think about our son, we appreciate it. Was there one person or one message that impacted you more than another. I think the ones that really hit close to home or when you know when you hear from another heart family. Um, you know, and we've heard from people on both sides of the coin. You know, we've we've heard the really good success stories. Um, you know, families that we've known that are a little ahead of us in this process. Both been service here in Charlotte and got their got their treatment at the V Children who have had heart transplants and tell us the kids. I've never been happier and everything. Is great and that you know that fills your cup and then we've also heard from the other side of the coin. As you know, recipients of transplants who didn't have great responses who come out to us and say we don't we didn't have a similar experience. But we hope and pray that your son has the experience we wished for our child, you know, and those are hard stories to hear. But it's also real, you know, and people and you find out the best of people when they're at their worst moments, and then the real other side of the coin. We've had many families in just the last couple weeks Reach out to us and say, you know, we lost a child. And to hear your story and know that you guys were impacted by organ transplant and organ donors. We know if someone out there is benefiting from our our tragedy and As hard as it is. It makes it a little little easier for us to wrap our heads around to know that we brought joy to another family. So I mean, we've heard it from all walks of life all past experiences and, you know, it really puts a lot of things in the perspective. Um, and it's a It's a really complicated and it's a really vast, you know, outcome, you know, type world. Talked about things being put into perspective. I know it's an obvious question, but go ahead. How does it change your perspective? I think back a month ago, right? I'm I'm coaching TJ's, You know, And these are things that I personally need to work on and be better about right. And you get wrapped up in. You know, everything else is good. So you as humans, I know I do You find other things that You need to, like, dive into and need to bother you and you need to stress about right. It's used to fill that void. You know, I'm coaching. TJ is like eight year old wreck baseball team right, And you know, it's not. It's not serious by any stretch of the imagination. But here I am. I'm like sitting up at night. And I'm like mad that we can't like field ground balls. And I'm telling my wife in bed like I don't know why we're not getting better like you know, we worked so hard and T J, didn't he? He's better than that. Like, how did he not hit the ball out of the infield? It's coach pitch. He's better than that. This was like three days. He's playing baseball. Three days later. He's in the ice to you in severe heart failure. And three days earlier. I'm mad. I'm you know, frustrated that my eight year old kid I'm like..

"Worry about that. Your stay, so wouldn't it couldn't be a star player to have to be more There are plenty of great athletes, though, like it have to be a guy like your co That was that was You know, playing person second down, but was good enough athlete that it with training could probably be taught how to kick a field goal. I mean, come on, It's kicking a field goal. I know it is man. It's not kicking a field man. We make it sound so simple. That's not. It's not that simple training like harder in high school with training, honey, I mean, like Canada, they could teach somebody that and it is that simple. I don't think so. Yeah, I'm with Hoody. It's not gonna put you in a kowski and someday like how many kickers are gonna go in the hall of Fame, please ask North about cast ballot. Mike North wanted him over your lacquer like billboards. Yeah, Absolutely. You don't believe that? You got into it with Mike over this, Mike said at pick number eight You take Sebastian Janikowski over Brian Urlacher, Mike Tell the truth. He did say that. And then he got drunk with him in Chicago. Double down. You got to know you have Janet. Constant like karma. Ask North about his exploits with Jana Kowski. They were in the streets of Chicago Hard. Ask him. Well, you might want to run the streets of them. But the idea of drafting a kicker over Brian Urlacher is no. He loved him. He thought I'm telling I will work. I was at the same station with him at the time. Oh, my You said, that's crazy. I got Charles Tillman's numbers in front. Like I was gonna pro football reference. It's just It's just the You look at Tillman's numbers versus those that were like him as far as enough So the names I have a firm er, Carly Day Brown West Hopkins Leon Hall. Randy Logan. Will Allen Thomas starred in Adrian Wilson. None of those guys were all Hall of Famers. No. Yeah, but peanut, like created something. Yeah, he kind of did. He caused more turnovers than anybody, And it's hard to raid him with any other corner in his ability to cause turnovers, because nobody did it his way. How many forced fumbles that peanut Having some like it's in the 40. It really compares to, like four Russian defense defensive ends Yes, crushing defensive ends. Have those types of number 44, honey? Yep, That's amazing. There is no comparable to forcing the fumble at a cornerback corner. He was doing something nobody else. Woz. That's kind of why I still turn over whether it's an interception or thing. So total turnovers is what he should be judged on interceptions, plus those forced fumbles Bone. Yeah, like in that area. He really has no peer in terms of defensive backs, And that's why it's not even you could make a pretty strong case for he and all includes. And Brian Briggs, too. Not maybe not as much as those other two. I don't think, but I think there's a good case to be made for rolling in for peanuts. Honey, I found the picture online. I showed it the car. It's North Janikowski about the night out in Chicago. Oh, my God! Man crush and he wrote an article Mike in the Daily Herald. 2016. Why I wanted Janet Kosti over earlier and by the way, if I had to make a case For the greatest return guy in all of history, it would be made for Travis Williams. Why is that? Your demon running back for the Green Bay Packers slash another team Packer. He had 118 touches and six touchdowns. The most effective return man in football history. Travis was her touches. That's pretty absolutely per touches. Nobody's even remotely close. And why does nobody know about him? Because he's a journeyman running back that couldn't start at the running back position. It could be a star. That's why the greatest return guy in NFL history. Nobody knows about because if all you could do is return, it doesn't really matter does it? No, it doesn't. Thank you And I'm going to the game. Though. Case one third of the game on the market, it is never figured out how to get one last question With that mask on market. It looks like a diaper you got even below got to get a different mask. He's got that big white thing I did covers almost his entire face. You're in the weekend show. Yeah, it looks like he's wrapped in a diaper kill again. There's a black one. I mean, put them One odd Don't you leave me alone. Just coming. Hey, what's coming out of his mouth and might as well be a diaper car. Let's talk about the Andre. I don't know The upgrade and everyone says is not very good. I sons are pretty good. Rico. The sons are good, but they shouldn't have a dragon Bandar there don't The problem is I don't think anybody's gonna be able to beat the Lakers of the Clippers out there. But I'd like to put a little futures for although Utah's played great, too. I'd like to put a little futures play down at eight. And this Sunset on a shekel. They're good sons air. Good, dude, I'm Chris Paul. Like Chris. Paul is the angels wondering like killing. He's unbelievable. Is the guy that you want? You want someone to stabilize the point guard spot? Of course. I'm rooting for money, Williams. Everything love must absolutely amen to that low. Monty have money like that. I like that Suns team, Though. That too. They've been They've been the dregs the league for a while. But you bring a Chris Paul and all of a sudden now you've gotten better. They're good man. Bridges is good one last one holding out Talking about this If I told you that the Bears did not give up a lot to get him. I'm not talking about some stupid trading. But they acquired Gardner Minshew and drafted someone. His touchdown interceptions 27 to 11 37 to 11 37 to 11. Pastor rating of 95.9. Would you be okay with that? If you drive if you traded like a conditional sixth round pick Sure. Yeah, but you said third earlier. I said, you know what I did, And then I said, I went. Let's make it 1/4. You gave up your fourth. We wouldn't do it. Who's starting for you, then? Um You right? That's my point. Tyler Bray. I mean yesterday. This is how bad it's gotten like cabs, talking about trading picks for government you yesterday, Sylvie's making a case. Ryan Fitzpatrick. That would be his ninth team. I mean, and I am I'm so like, warn out by the Bears. They had like they've almost broken me like I can't have these conversations about trading picks for Gardner Mensch. You are signing Ryan Fitzpatrick for $10 million. I can't have them anymore. They have broken me. They should have broken every bears fan in the universe with this guy tonight with this kind of just trying to throw something going. No. I mean, I get it like back there. We are broken as a fan base. Do you guys realize that We're broken down. We're talking about trading draft picks for Gardner Minshew like it's brutal. This is what they've done to us. What were you shame on the bear's shame on them? But were you surprised when I said 37 to 11 and a passer rating of 96?.
"charles tillman" Discussed on ESPN Chicago 1000 - WMVP
"Dollar here on ESPN, 1000 and the ESPN Chicago APP. I was not expecting us to start with Mike Singletary, though I feel like it's something that we just have to touch on because you know what I want. So we were just talking about it with Mark Jean Greco and Is that real? Like the Bears are really considering hiring Mike Singletary, as the defensive coordinator know they interviewed Michael Singletary assert defensive coordinator now. What has he done to get this gig? No. Are you sure? No, There's no way There's no no, no change in every 85 fantastic Chicago Bear player. No as a coach, though, it like if you're a Bears fan You hear this information, and Mike Singletary, interviewed for the open defensive coordinator gig. When the Bears Known, said Chuck Pagano was leaving to retire. Like, Weren't you kind of in your head like thinking of okay, who are some of the best guys out there right now? Who are some of the best coaches up incoming coaches who are guys who could take this group and return them to glory that we saw in 2018? Who are some of those guys were on the National Football League. At No point was I thinking that maybe it would be Mike Singletary. I It's creepy, hasn't been in the league in five years. He was a defensive assistant last in the NFL in 2016 for the Rams. Before that, he was the linebackers coach and special assistant to the head coach. 2011 in 2000 and 13 for the Vikings. So for three years, you didn't have a job. And he was the defensive assistant, And since then he's been the head coach at Trinity Christian Academy in Texas. It was the Memphis Express head coach for the Alliance of American Football, and then the TSL generals defensive coordinator in 2020. That's a Spring League football. A league The plays in the spring. Bring Lee Yeah. Spring League football. Yeah, sure. Yeah. So why? Look great player. Tremendous athlete. Obviously one of the best ever do it for the bank Legendary Bears player There's no question about that. That's not what we're questioning the trajectory. Is just down, right? If this was if this was AH, stock graph. This would just be going it be because you go from head coach to Special assistant to the head coach, linebackers coach to just defensive assistant To the alliance. American football, too. Air go to like a high school. To the alliance. American football to Spring League like the next step is is, you know Bill funds to Singletary, But the next is flag football. Intramurals I when I saw that story when Adam Jones reported that earlier today that he interviewed with the Chicago Bears, I thought to myself that can't be real. If it is real, aren't there other former Bears who you'd rather have them interview for this gig and talk to and I know that Was a few guys who are in town still, who are doing post game shows on TV like Alex Brown and Lance Briggs. Charles Tillman is still in the area, like Do they want to coach? Could they come in? And Roland was Singletary too? I mean, if that's the way The organization is going to go to fill this spot. Just gonna go try and find an old bear. Get a crusty old bear and just just put him in that spot. Let's try. Let's try win some football games. Because he won when he was in the uniform. I'm I think that that's a crazy story. I just thought it was something. We have to talk about this. Start the show. What's weird to me, too, is like you see some Teams like all I'll use the lines of his example. Just because I've been seeing this from the lions that they when they have finished an interview, they tweeted up. We've concluded our interview with Coach we've concluded with our GM entered our interview with blank for our position of general manager. If this was a PR move by the Bears to try to ingratiate the the meat of Chicago, the meat they wouldn't have released it like it wouldn't have been. Adam John saying Have John's is great. I'm not. This is nothing against John's. That's not how this would have been presented them. This would have been presented by the Bears. Hey, we've concluded our interviews for defensive coordinators. Here is who we've Interviewed blank, blank blank Mike Singletary, and we would have been like, okay, those air wait, wait. Hold on a minute. Who? Singletary. Eyes. Just not for me. Okay? The other thing that I saw today and it's it's happened over the last couple of days. I thought to myself, are they Are they sure on this one? If you want to talk football with us, 3123323776 is the phone number. It's blocking up. Dawn. I thought this With this hiring the Detroit Lions are hiring Dan Campbell. And I thought to myself at first or the line. Sure they got the right, Campbell. Like all call in college football season all NFL season, We heard that Matt Campbell from Iowa State was going to be a head coaching candidate in the National Football League, and the lines are hiring Dan Campbell. Who was working for the Saints as a linebackers coach or a tight ends coach in assistant to Sean Payton. He was the intern coach for the Dolphins in 2015. Wasn't he awful? Like, what are the lines doing? You know, I know that would like as a bears fan like who cares what the lines are doing, But I thought that I was like, I think they got the wrong Campbell. I think that they thought that the Campbell that was being talked about all football season was Mac and I think if you look at it, he was the assistant head coach for the Saints. They've had a lot of success both offensively and defensively. This year, he was tight ends coach for them as well. I think they they think they're getting, you know they're getting Sean Payton light, but But didn't he, like, fail pretty badly with the when he was with the Dolphins wasn't like the laughing stock of the league. Am I misremembering how that went down? Well, he was like crazy. Yeah, really top like head butting players will only time like he's a nut job, right? Yes, Exactly. Ok, alright. I'm just making sure like, are the lines. Sure they got the right camp? Good, good. That's all. I'm asking Good for the bears, Right? Yeah. I mean, there's a lot of good and NFL conversation and stuff in the news right now and This goes back to what I said yesterday. There are a lot of good head coaches out there. That is still available. Eric, the enemy table still don't have jobs. And table has said he's staying in in Buffalo, and we don't know what's gonna happen with.
