Interested testy on the left lock Taskey backing down. And a foul is going to be called Chianti Johnson. Just tried to pull the chair out from under him. Get the big man to topple down. But a foul called on Johnson. I love the fact savior Simpson sees the mismatch. You got Chianti Johnson. As you mentioned who is six foot five John tests. He's seven one Michigan. Not always great about throwing it into the big fella. But right there. Nice job of recognizing the mismatch and getting John Q the basketball inbound test you hands off to Simpson flips a pass the pool at the top of the key clangs off the left side of the backboard, no good and a forty three thirty one for Michigan's Florida. I'll bring it up the floor. Hard paste trying to speed up a little bit for Florida here. Not sure that's what they want is. No electricals to the right hand way. Walk trying to attack. It's a step inside the foul on floated up. No, good rebound tipped out of the hands of tests key. But he secures it the Simpsons. Simpson now running to the left hand wing before it puts on the brakes in his bright pink shoes. Simpson. Driving down the right side of the lane. The hook shot won't go rebound. Charles Mathews turnaround in the lane not dies on the back of the rim. But won't fall on the rebound. This time for Florida's Chianti Johnson. Now name hard walking it up twelve point lead for Michigan and a foul try to step around to screen. The foul going on bras, daycare or testy one of the two it'll be on John that'll be his second and a time out on the floor. "We're bringing to you right here tonight on compass media networks a big one in the big ten Minnesota host number seven Michigan. There are certain games that are win in in games for bubble teams. And to me, this feels like one of those games for Minnesota. I look at the gophers resume, and I always evaluate resumes by one simple notion. Have you beat other teams that are projected to be the NC double A tournament? Minnesota's beaten Washington on a neutral court Minnesota has won a road game at Wisconsin. And Minnesota has also beaten a very solid Iowa team that has been right than the top twenty five of the last couple of weeks. I firmly believe if Minnesota wins the basketball game tonight. It will comfortably be in the field the sixty eight on March seventeenth on selection Sunday, but to beat Michigan. Minnesota's gonna have to do a little bit more offensively than it. Did when it fell to the wolverines a couple of weeks ago in Ann Arbor in that game fifty nine fifty seven triumph for Michigan. Dupree mcbrayer. Amir Coffey and gave collar Scher all combined to shoot just eleven thirty one from the floor. You're going to need more than that from your starting perimeter. And conversely, what does Michigan have to do to me the one positive that? I've really seen from Michigan. The last couple of games that hasn't been there throughout the entire season has been the emergence offensively of Charles Mathews. He's playing confidently he's playing with like somebody who has a lot of pop in their game. And I thought that really came to the forefront. When Michigan went on the road and struggled against Penn State. You still Charles Mathews getting no flow offensively. He was I thought really efficient as well. In the win against Maryland. Last Saturday Charles Mathews emerging as a consistent offensive threat for a Michigan team that has really been known by its great balance. And I talked to a big ten assistant coach about this this week. The thing that's difficult about playing Michigan is there's so many different people who can be these. Asan? It can be Jordan pool. It can be Charles Matthews. It can be bras daycare. And of course, it could be John who might be the most improved player in the sport. When we return we will get you set for everything that's going on tonight around the country in college basketball. I'm John Roth York studios..

They just couldn't recover after the beginning. We fought hard to get it back. But you know, they, you know, guys like point they're knocking down the shots. And I do I think some of them we gave too many, you know, where little lazy with their hands. He's still got a bother shots hands were low, and it's not how we do things. But but certainly that's a little bit deflated when they're banging threes. And you're trying to keep out of the lane. And that's credit to them and then both of their losses. "Like they've got to a point where it feels like some of the guys that come in are like designated offense the players in other guys designated defensive players in like Xavier Simpson's the only guy trying to play both. But he can't shoot. Yeah. One offense of move is a hook shot. It's kind of weird. Yeah. It's never good. When like the point guard shot his Goto shot as a hook shot. I mean, I guess it works out. But yet. It's I I'm not I'm not necessarily worried about I'm I am worried about what you're saying. Just like the offense of side of things where they've had to turn overs. And then they can score the points that it's sort of like re Virginia Tech and Michigan sort of similar to me where they they can't hurt themselves because they can't score at a level at a clip to make up for those mistakes. They have games where they have high turnovers. They can't score themselves. They can't shoot themselves out of a kind of thing. And so, yeah, I that's the only that's the only hold up, but Michigan has the defense where they can play ugly game and beat you by playing good defense and being able to get a little, you know, transition bucket stuff like that to to sort of get some wins. But I'm I'm more worried about Charles Mathews than probably anyone else in the country because I thought that he was going to have his national player of the year round this year, and it has not quite been that way. But maybe catches magic in late February March and gets on run like he did last year because we know Michigan after the plane ride. They're all about the big ten tournament. So we'll see what he was killed in the non conference like he played well yet here Lonnie played delegates Villanova. He's just kind. Kind of fallen out. You're not you're not the only ones worried about them. There's there's there's this guy on Twitter that I shouldn't even acknowledge because he's gonna jerk off to me saying this. But. "It's Michigan five Wisconsin to duck. Gatley Wisconsin has struggled in the first half of big ten play averaging only twenty five points per pass. They've struck. Pulled to get going. And you mentioned the hot start for Michigan last year. The badgers were down fifteen to two in that game for the eventual halftime deficit that kind of Washington game out for. Yeah. It's be explicable. Really a well coached team your last job. They had their program trajectory kept him out of the tournament. What felt like a millennium? But I do think that this. That one guy that can really break down a deep, and they have to play through happen to have taught thousands of all ready for. But as as much as I love Brad, data cities, not really a dynamic down point guard Trist as well. They're lacking that guy that can create offense for everybody else at defensively. I'm not sure there is good as they bid and their defense is not one that ever turns you over and generate Senator rate set up, I think it's those two factors have had either given dumped blocked by Brad Jesus. That's the type of night this cloud, which is kind of sit on their hands failing it late because the storm overnight one for seven start for the home team to for six for Michigan on the road. You talk about half and never really having that dynamic second player. Even though he's had one hundred and twenty three straight starts and jumpy line said it feels like he's been here for sixty years as Davis. Throws off the it bounce play against the window and lays it in for the second badger bucket. But you wonder what happened to do if he had like Xavier Simpson breaking down defenses instead of him. Backing it every time. Fused with the basketball drives it into the lane. Holtz gives it back twice as Luger's versatile. Six man for the wolverines and up to save your Simpson. He's doubled pop out for the quick three ball is Jordan role of Aleph side. No good. But Isaiah livers offensive rebound shot clock. They'll reset. Matthews Simpson and pool of the backward. Upfront Austin Davis and Isaiah livers for Michigan. Charles Mathews trying to go one on one against get to the lane right hand fake back on the inside of the pivot. No good rebound tapped up by reduce the Brad Davis super Wisconsin badgers their offense. Davison pocket passed a half picked up there by Davis half backing in multiple dribbles. Head fake shoots. It from below the shoulders with a scoop it rolls off the ir to the robot comes away to the wolverines quickly back. The other ways that your Simpson. Driving stops the paint holds it up. Can't find a cutter. Now gives it up to Charles Mathews. Pivots wants twice back to the middle. Short tougher and half controls the rebound. Both teams struggling to put the ball the basket so solid defensively stand between man and bucket. Data drives kicked up a double team. But they give a baseline gets into the paint out to Nate rivers these three point berries. Reverse shooting shade under forty percent for downtown. He added twenty five pounds in the offseason. He's going to be a player for Wisconsin. Well, they look at it as a stretch for five. Meaning a guys regards center position at shoot it out to twenty two twenty three feet long release, but he's always been seen as very good shooting Seder sips of drives down the right side of the paint goes with the extended hook over the head a throwback seventy seven thirteen fifty to play in the first half. Michigan wisconsin. Drives picks up his dribble toast, resets to Davis. It gets it back working on Austin Davis. Triple soft double either the paint over the right shoulder the hook up good. He is very confident going against ASTA Davis. He knows he has the big man's number. Correct. He has that you got a back up on you. Really awesome. Davis wasn't supposed to play this many minutes. They didn't know they lose Faulkner to the NBA. As soon as Austin Davis came in night before last rank you went right out of got her foul trouble. And every time down he's gone by to his kid that was a left block over his left shoulder. Just an easy right hand. Hook Brooks will come in Charles Mathews. We'll take a seat for Michigan. Wisconsin. See the first action today from pixel Charles Thomas. Thomas a senior backup four and five strong at the post beat the capitol. Get a break. Jordan rule drives it back to liquors at the point livers picked up by readers. Couple dribbles crosses over to the left hand. Fires in seventeen. No good. But another offense rebound at this time. It's off the Davis. Get a. Seven wisconsin. Where the lead thirteen minutes. Good. Kevin Davis who. With one hand hung out the almost fell out but Davis scratches for the first time in Michigan ties at night. And the difference is obvious. Open rebound. Isaiah differs motored into the front, Gordon. Simpson Simpson is right hands across the to diving Davis for the Xavier ships is not gonna shoot. Behind those ball scrapes. A big Dan Davis sets a screen form out around three point line. But because he's so good at driving it making. You think he's gonna get a layup? Doctor with a bounce pass old fashioned screen rolled off Davis for the dunk. Michigan leads it eleven to nine. Just like that Doug. We see Ethan half backing up. You get the feeling great guard cannot have him out long most games. But especially against the second rank wolverine. I think I think he wanted to have until the under twelve time out at just figured okay now, I can get one more possession more offensive, touch, especially going against us tapes. Twelve twenty four to play halfback in Wisconsin will trigger it in from the baseline Davidson. As Michigan says since rustic is back. It must be like John be light forgot about bras daycares. He did go out a while ago when they libbers gaping you'll come back will replace Seder sips at it. Honestly does happen. That you get upset with the kid because he takes a quick transition three. Maybe forget the assignment to get back in backing down. Right hand fake goes back to the left on the up there, buddy. Vested in a crowd. Rebound offensive rebound to Nate levers. He's got your goal. Chuck. Stop the paint left hand hook in and out tough this for Nate Rebours rebound comes to deliver for Michigan. Here's Eli Brooks with the dribble across the land with the right hand. "Team has translated into them playing better defense. I wonder if it was the plane crash, I wonder because it does kind of seem that it coincides with that time kind of a lot. But I wonder if we ever have a chance to talk to coach I would wonder what what? He would attribute the change in that culture too. Because again that is something that's different here that we've seen the past two or three years that we didn't see out of those first few teams that beeline was coaching. No, you're right. But I I think the tr- the crash had something to do with it. But it's John telling in explaining to them when you get dunked on it. It's just two points, and they accept buying in buying into what the is selling to you what the coach is telling you is a big thing. And you you didn't want to get dumped on when he was a kid. You felt bad. You got poster is right. But now, you know, it as well as I do, John what is that worth it still just two points, and if somebody jumps in your face and Wolfson wolf just get back 'cause you get back and score quick to coach does a good job of putting things in perspective. Zach that's what I'm saying. John. It's just worth two points. I mean, we we on the other hand taking and go. Wow. Wow. That was great replayed and everything like that. But when you think about it. Only two points. The I have the opposite side of the argument. I love coach I used to argue with the motor by one of my teammates, his dad, and I would get into this argument all the time. But also, I think in high school game. It means a lot more because you don't see nearly as many dunks in a high school exactly the momentum the energy. I mean, Charles Mathews last night when he took that one baseline flush it down and got the foul not just the crowd because obviously the fans Rex get the players the way that they go or when he had the steel in the dunk. I love coach I love so many of his philosophies, but I are you sometimes it might be worth just no that's not see. But that's not the way those here. You've got to. And it's true most kids most people will tell you you get that dynamic dunk and everything on you means everything does it trains. You're in trains, all your energy. No, it does it you let it drain your energy. 'cause you're like, oh, we don't don't. I mean, I used to be like that. But when he said that to the team, I'm like that's true too. I could see that. All right. You got one on me. I'll come back and do it on you, or I'll shoot a three in your, you know, whatever. That's I mean, that's what you that's I guess that's what we need to learn from him. And I think those kids are learning from and it's it's the older guys that are teaching the younger guys the same thing. So it's it's developing and continue, and it it has caught with that team that had that plane plane accident and now carried on those players still honesty. Exactly. And again like you said part of building a program. Just like you often talk about when you were playing football here. You learn from the guys ahead of you just as much as you learn from your coach now from those guys ahead of you. And we've gotten to a point where. Yeah. Xavier Simpson he learned from Derek wall who learned from Trey Burke, who again, they're passing down. And so he's able to pass that down ally. Brooks David Julius again, it's it's just moving it down. And that's part of like, you said building an elite program, right? One of those signs. I think he's getting there. I look I know I may be premature saying it is currently, but I think you're getting their guy when I think, yeah, we're looking at the door. I think you he's doing some things, and you know, what he's having fun. It's not used to seeing me agonizing over and it's eight book, he's still get angry about things that that the team does and everything like that we're competitive, but we wanna win. He's he's having fun with it has let me say this has had to here's loss to critique the team, really. But he does critique the team. But he does it in a positive way will. And also, I got you gotta give the players a lot of credit for that. Because they have been mentally. Tough enough where he can he doesn't have to constantly be on them. He can allow them to have fun and know that they're still mentally tough enough to be able to be loose and have fun out there. But at the same time get down to business and do what they have to do to win. Because that's ultimately what it's all about. Exactly we need to go to a break. But when we come back. Yeah. Something happened on Saturday in the athletic department, hired a coaching consultant, and we need to dress. It. I think we need to talk about it. And we need to give our opinions and we'll be right back. You're listening to the end zone. This is the zone wanna spoil dinner, but just really needing.

"Big ten matchup tomorrow night on one Charles Mathews lead the number two Michigan wolverines as they battled. The fighting Illinois all the action tips off at eight eastern on episode one and the Fox Sports at by the way, Michigan's gonna win the national championships. You hit music the knee. That's the NBA on NBC. What's going on? I think Duke Duke and Michigan play for the national championship. I'll pick the upset really. Because everybody's gonna take do because it's I in Williamson. So Michigan's good, okay? Rob Parker f s one instigator. All right. Let's start with a couple of topics. You're all worked up. I Lamar Jackson got booted home. Everybody's like. The young kid. And then the Chicago Barrick, Cody parkey missed a kick. And man, he got booed out of the stadium in Chicago. And the media was like, I'm uncomfortable with this. You're not uncomfortable with it not at all since when can't fans, boo. Why fan is derived from the word fanatic? That means that you really care. You're you're invested time emotion all of that. A wrote this column on the shuttle league dot com about it. And it was like, Colin, it's okay. As long as you're not vile or racist or violent throwing stuff as long as you don't do that. And you wanna be able to push up and say, I'm not happy with what happened. The same reason that you would have to cheer is the reason that you would do, and I and I don't see anything wrong with it. Does that mean you don't want? Lamar Jackson took to succeed Obea quarterback. It's just that. He wasn't getting it done that day. They were down twenty three to three and he was bad. He was bad. He was bad. And the same thing with Porky. I mean that that's one of those moments you live for it's fan. Imagine being at the stadium ready to a -rupt, right? The bears are going to move on. And then he he misses the cake. You could say it was tipped at the line. Whatever you want to say in bad luck. He missed it and fans are going to react. What are we supposed to do? We live in this now oversensitive athletes and everybody has to get a trophy. And it's the end of the world where everybody is a victim. I know I listen, Cody. Chicago's a tough town. Can they have route brutal winters people work hard in Chicago? They spend a lot of money in when they of course, the in your sit indoors in the winter because you don't go outdoors, and you'll watch a lot of TV and the Blackhawk fans and the bulls fans, it's a great sports town, and they got ticked off. And I it doesn't bother me at all as long as you. Don't throw anything at the kid. And you know, what kid he'll get over it? It's just one. It's a this. What you signed up for when you come become a pro athlete. All right. We got eight teams left in the NFL. Rob parker. Gimme your power eight. Who do you think? What? What order?.

"Yes. It has to do with the we can just continue talking about the Indiana. Michigan game. Coach Cal Kentucky sucks now Kentucky, they're they're on-again off-again relationship with success is currently off. I saw Cal did refer to them as these kids. I was watching like his radio show that he was doing tonight. And he said something about these kids are working on developing. And it's it's it's never not funny to me to hear him say that shit. But anyway, Kentucky sucks, but there is good news because Charles Matthews is still one of cows guys. Yes. And Charles Mathews does not suck. Michigan is very good Michigan as you said jumped out to a big lead against in us defense. They did kind of play Michigan. Even after that initial surge of what doi-. Yeah. Juwan Morgan and Romeo Langford both had to fouls like before the first media time out and that. Kind of sucked in the Michigan built a big lead. And then I you, you know, played pretty well after that. But. Yeah. If thoughts on the Michigan. It's it's interesting to hear now you guys talk about foul trouble with two thousand. That's why you lose a game. When you think about Dan dockage, and what happened with Michael Jordan? But I'll get I'll get past all that Michigan themselves. Brad jacobs. You know continues. I don't even know what how to describe him. But he's just a force. I mean, I think you only had like ten points in the game. But it felt like he had twenty with with what he was able to do and swaggie pool. That's really the guy. Got a point. We say about him. I I mean just perfect exactly we want him to be at this point in the season. He's on the rise. He's been under the radar because everyone talks about you know, Charles Mathews's and breads GECAS but Jordan poet eighteen in this game hit some big shots. And I was I was thoroughly impressed. And just the fact that Michigan's fifteen in Noah's pretty wild to me, honestly, as I just look at the records of every team. It's like man they've been some good teams and they continue to play well in big moments. We have a couple of debates with Michigan that need to be had first of all I want to touch on this one. I we have a good old fashioned. Who's the best? Player on this team to bake Bruin. I am I am a million billion trillion percent in the Charles Mathews camp because I'm not an idiot because I played basketball. I played big ten basketball. I've been to a final four I have a brain. I watched these games. Charles Matthews is obviously their best player. But then other people are now saying like Xavier sit like the Simpson was getting a ton of love from far Kellogg who loved Clark, great guy. Very good guy. I know I know Clark personally tape Frazier. So Clark Clark is that they were talking about the Xavier Simpson. Running hook shot that he shoots off the glass, which is like undeniably, a fun thing to watch like when he hits that shit. It's like, okay. This is fun. I like this kid nothing against save your Simpson. But Xavier Simpson is currently averaging seven points a game. He he he shoots like twenty six percent from the three point line. And like fifty percent from the free throw line. He does not he leads the team in assistant turnovers. That's a big deal. Continue. What else does he do? Yes. One rebounding. That's what I'm saying. Yeah. But but then he, but the thing is is that he's appreciative senior. Right. Like, he's. Yes. A senior he has guard. Yeah. In our mind is regardless of senior. Yeah. He's the senior point guard. Michigan is good defensively. He's good defensively. So he's like the spearhead of the defense. He gets labeled as the best defender..

"Like the 2013 team that that lost a redacted in the national championship that year lost a vacation in a in a very good game. That team was like offense of oriented with staus gifts, and Burke and Hardaway and Robinson, those guys shot a lot of threes in the beeline beeline that we know right? Yeah. Play the percentages last year's Michigan team, more defensive minded and even started Isaiah livers strictly for defense. Right. This year's team. I have a feeling it's going to be even more. So defensive minded because they're going to have to be an kind of slightly concerned about like who's going to hit threes for this team swaggie pool. Swaggie pulls the answer. But yeah, th- that's interesting. And that's that's my way of saying that this is a sign of a good coach, John he can just basically. Adapt his personnel. And be like, all right. We're defensive minor. Now, this is how we're going to win games. Now, we're going to go national championship with the defensive team. And we watched after we went to the LA games out here. The regional games when they won the regional out here. We watched how be line just handle the media handled his team that guy is a professional like a hundred percent professional. Everyone loves him. Everyone's talk to him. And he's a beloved figure out of talking about the most beloved figure on team. That's why he pool guy brought up he has gone zero dark pool. He's not on social media. He is off all the social media said he's just getting mentally locked in basketball wise, that said soc me as a huge distraction. He's tired of scrolling. He said I've been doing yoga and meditation and watching house hunters my own HDTV. I love it. He said, I know it's corny. But that's me. I'm just kinda corny. So he's just trying to. Okay, hold on. He's like he's so aware of how cool he is that he's trying to act like he's corny to try to keep people away from realizing that he is wagging, boo. It's genius. It's great way to to keep people. Away from talking about him. We're we're not confused. We're not shook here. We know who you are swaggie right doing you. I'm glad you're not on social media. But yeah, it's happening as soon as he has thirty five points. He's going to get back on social media and say, yeah. Or is this is like a monster game. And just tweet it the I the is raising emoji at like five of those. I can't he also said he went to the Michigan state Michigan football game where Michigan played at Michigan state. Yeah. I remember this guy was clawing up the field and Michigan ends up winning swaggie pool goes in did an interview with someone and he he was at the game. He went to east Lansing, and he said Michigan state's campus is awful. It's trash that was his quote. And then probably just walked away. Swaggie pulls the closest thing to prints playing basketball that we have actually say it to a newsman. He said, it's like someone on Snapchat. That was just like film in the game. And he just walked up to him and just put his face in front of the camera and said this campus is awful trash and then walked away. That's probably what happened and everybody started cheering. Thank you swaggie. We should also mention Charles Mathews's back who darkhorse dark here. And then also darkhorse national player you of new software heart sooner if he gets a jump shot. Oh my God. If we keep saying that about everyone if if yeah is Ahah livers also everything I was reading about him says he's going to be more aggressive this year..
