"Threat horizons to be exact. Great horizons. Is that like when you're afraid you're gonna fall off the edge of the world? Is that a threatening horizon? What's a threat horizon? Threat horizon is actually a threat intelligence report by Google. Okay, sorry, I'm gonna go somewhere boring, but oh, is that like an event horizon? How did horizon get into this title anyway? Actually, I don't know. I think when the report was being named, I was technically reported to the marketing team, but they didn't ask me. They didn't ask me. So but at the same time, I have to acknowledge that the name is kind of cool and it's cool for multiple reasons because a lot of other vendors kind of repeat the same naming themes threatened intelligence reports that analytics report, threat report, and to me threat horizons name really does stand out. I'm sorry. We argued about it with a chronicle is a good name. And I think it's an awesome name and you think it's maybe not so great. But the threat horizons to me, I was instantly in love. I really love the name of the report. No, I think it's a good name too. I might be ripping on it, but it's a good name. Listeners, here's a fun fact. Anton and I once collectively renamed somebody else's product two days before it launched. That was one of the Stranger Things we've had to do together here at Google. It turns out we have the delightful pleasure of working together on things that are not just the podcast. So today we're talking about the threat horizons report. We're talking about some of the great stuff in it. And we get into some fun back and forth with our guests about what's actually scary in cloud versus what's actually common in cloud. Do you want to say anything about that distinction? Actually, we've asked our guest, as you would hear in a few moments, what was the most surprising part? But what was the most not surprising? Crypto miners ransomware and to a lesser extent dataset. But ultimately, the cryptovirus and ransomware are two threats that at this point are very much not surprising in the cloud. Frankly, if you wake me up at 3 a.m. notorious Anthony a.m. test and say, and name one threat that's the most common in the cloud, I would go crypto miners, of course. Yeah, of course. I wouldn't do ran somewhere. I wouldn't say ransomware. I wouldn't either. But apparently it's common in its interest in how the surprising part is that it probably peaked, ransomware, and kryptonite has probably peaked according to our guest. I think that that is a very optimistic take on some of the trends we're seeing, but let's not stall any longer. Listeners, please welcome today's guest. I'm delighted to introduce today's guest today we're joined by Charles De Beck, cyber threat, intelligence expert. Here at Google Cloud. Charles, we want to get right into it. Could you start out just by sharing a little bit about how is Google approaching threat intelligence? Is it what's special about it? Is it that we got the biggest sensors, the biggest team, what's special here? Yeah, thank you so much for having me. Excited to talk about this today.

I mean, we have to find ways to garden in the spaces that we're in. So, you know, maybe not all of us are in rural areas where we can have these massive gardens. We need to know how to grow maybe on a rooftop or in a community garden where you have a smaller plot. So we tell you the best soil, how to test your soil, the best thing is to plant, companion plants that are going to help each other. You know, it's just so much great information in one magazine. I live in an area where there are a lot of pine trees. And so the soil remains very acidic throughout the year, and I find that I have to throw a lot of lime into the earth. We used to grow. I think at one time, my wife and I had 30 tomato plants, but we've moved it indoors. There's these new things they look like keurig coffee pods. And she was presented with a gift for Christmas from some friends. And we're now growing indoors. Do you have tips for folks like us? Absolutely. I mean, even if you're not going to grow indoors all year long, which you totally can, you might want to start your seeds indoors. So we've got some great advice on how you're going to start your season exactly what they need. And then yeah, if you want to transplant them outside or continue to grow inside, you'll find that in the 2023 old firms all in that garden gang. The garden got, how long has that been published now? Your rise to the position of senior editor at were you a farmer? How did you come about this position? Well, I have lived in New Hampshire, my entire life. And the O 5 was home and that is a staple of New Hampshire in a very small town called Dublin. I used to pass it sometime. It's about an hour from where I live and so I've known about it my whole life, my grandparents, my parents always had a copy of the old pharmaceutical in their house. So I was very familiar with it. And when I heard when I was in my early 20s, fresh out of college, that the old firm was on an act of looking for an assistant editor, I thought, I could do that. And I think I'd like that. That was about 20 years ago. Wow. Good for you. First, woman, senior editor at the publication. I can not claim that. We do have the first female editor who is Janice Tillman, who has been here. I believe, I've been here 20 years, I believe she's been here 23 years. And she's only the 13th editor of the almanac. Wow. He'll bring a ton of wisdom and he can talk to the players Ram. He could relate. He could do some things, he'll He'll help establish Reestablished the culture of Michigan football. I'm open There we go. That's all we can hope for. Exactly Rams. I know you've had a chance to look at this team and I'm talking about this team. Currently the University of Michigan basketball team on the coach to one Howard and, um Who knew that they would be 11. You know, undefeated in the big 10. I In my wildest dreams. I didn't think they would be undefeated in the Big 10 on beat Wisconsin the way they beat Wisconsin this past what past Tuesday. Yes, Jamie. I'll sum it up like this. In the words of the great Maya Angelo. When someone shows you who they are. Leads up What you looking at, believe they are a very good basketball team that is very well coached by coach Howard and his staff. Believe what you see. There's no gimmicks is good, old fashioned basketball on both ends of the floor and they're fun to watch. Hey, Charles. Denis 15 here. It's great to talk with you again. After a few years. I You know your number One fan. I foul your career and I have been able to, you know, keep up with you on social media and everything like that. So I know where you're at. Great. Great to speak with you again in. And when you watch this team you just talked about believe what you're seeing here. Ah, What are you saying? We're it Looks like we're seeing a team that really doesn't have any weaknesses out there. Well, first of all, Welcome back, Dennis. And it's good to hear from you and know that you're doing well, um I mean, you know, as I say it, but leave what you're watching. You're looking at a team that on the office of being They are absolute joy to watch. They share the basketball that constant movement. They have a post game. They can shoot the basketball. Um two of the things coming into the season. That kind of on my alertly were that of point guard and post player. And they have more than answered those questions. Uh, Hutchison Kid? Been tremendous. The little Guard Smith has been tremendous. Uh, the young man, the transfer from Wake Forest has he's basically Six starters. Um, so I mean, they are just Wrong all over the floor on the defensive end, Dennis They're not doing their playing solid. Man, two man team defense and every now and then you see, coach will Sprinkle in Ah little Zone press, but they're playing solid man to man. Everyone's talking helping movie. They're limited steams to one shot, so it's just good, solid basketball. You're listening to Charles Rare me. Ramsey, formerly the head coach of Eastern Michigan University, Charles and I'd love to take the credit and you would be impressed with my basketball knowledge. If I said this, but I got to give. I got to get the footnotes to Tim McCormack cause we talked to him earlier this week. Look, they're playing Oh, basketball. Old basketball. What I mean is that going, they're going. They're first impression is going through the post. They want to post up that freshman 100 Dickerson, and then if it's not there, then they put the pump it back out. And I mean they're playing. Old style basketball in in a new style world. Well, exactly exactly. And you know, basketball is every evolving, but at the same time, nothing's changed Basketball basketball. And what hotel was found, is putting his players in the best position. Uh, help the team and succeed and that's what you're saying. Eyes that compared them to last year versus this year. Last year. You were a very one man ball dominant type of team where you know for 20 of the 30 seconds. One guy with dribble, dribble, dribble dribble. Well, you're not seeing that you see the ball going from left side right side into the pope's out of the post and so Basically what is telling the defense you have to pick your poison? You have to make a decision. If we go in the post, and you don't double we're going to score. Get five. If you do double the one thing I've been very impressed about such a sin is his ability is a past. And to find open guy. He's very, very steel, so when the double does come to it Oh, he finds that open God and then on top of that they are making open shots. That's the biggest, you know, That's the biggest thing. They're making open shots, So Tim.
