"And that was one of the coolest things I had seen in the compassion by the commissioner did him out as a firing line. And by the way, Brady went 22 to Cleveland. But I'll never forget him coming out and just not seeing joy, but you just see him relief in anguish. Yeah. You know, to go number 22 in the draft. That didn't happen for will levis. He had to sit there and eat it. He had to sit there and own it the entire time. Why didn't somebody come rescue him, Charles? When he was at home. I said, why didn't the commissioner come rescue will levis? Yeah, I can't answer that one. I kind of thought it might happen. Right. But it did not. But just, you know, and then of course he went home and then the next day it was a short deal and maybe to give him a little extra fuel and the whole deal, but it also told us about evaluations too because he nor hinden hooker who also was popularly mocked to possibly get into the first round. Neither one of them went and then the next day will levitate off board early and headed hooker to come up forward to the third round. So the evaluations and where people had them, they had low levels ahead of hooker. Which surprised a lot of conversations by many of us being included that had hooker ahead of will love. That did surprise me a little bit. I know you have a show to get ready for. So get away question here. You've watched so much tape. Did so much studying, a player that might be somewhat under the radar. I'm not talking super sleeper, but not a first round guy. A player that you just kind of fell in love with and you think could have an immediate impact wherever he lands. I'm gonna give you one a defensive tackle out of Boise state. Named Scott matlock. Okay. Charge took him into 6 round and what did the Chargers have trouble doing over the last couple of years, Dan? Stopping people running the focus. Oh, a lot. Okay. So I think that he's going to get a chance to get into rotation and be one of those guys. I'm not saying he comes down and he's at all pro or even a Pro Bowl or what have you. But would not surprise me if he becomes like a great gains type? Remember Greg gaines coming out by the short arms and this set and everything. Heck, he played pretty well for the rams. And now he's moved on and he's a valued member of the NFL. I'm wondering, Scott matlock could be that kind of guy. Plus, always like when a defensive tackle shows up on extra point field goal and goes out and catches a two point pass for a conversion. I love it. I love it. Well, you brought up another one that I really liked yesterday on the show. And a rashee rice out of SMU. I think he could do some things in Kansas City. Charles. Always, you are one of those guys who have worked with who always makes me better. Just wanted to say thank you, always appreciate the time. And hopefully you get some time. I know it's the job, but I know it's a grind too and you deserve a few days to just read a few books and chill out down there in Orlando, my friend. From having the cops come get me to talk to them, that's for sure. But then those are very kind words. I appreciate it. Trust me. It's right back at you. It's a mutual deal. You make me better, and it's just a blast to be around you. So all the best, keep knocking them dead and keep holding down for rich there. Thanks, man. They had all the boys for me. DJ and Rhett and all those guys and Bucky Allah. I'll talk to you soon, man. All right, look forward to it all best of you and your crew. Be good. Thank you. Charles Davis, one of the best in the business, moved over from Fox a couple of years ago to CBS with iron eagle and they have meshed so well together. What a great team they are. And of course, long time and NFL network. A lot of people don't know about Charles Davis is he was in the athletic department at Stanford at one point in time. He ran a golf tournament in Orlando for, I believe, I don't know if it was the PGA Tour or Disney, but he's been an executive. And this guy has one of the most well rounded resumes that you will ever see. Somebody would be wise. Whenever he decides to do it, he can broadcast forever. He could run a company, he could run an athletic department. He could run a team, he's definitely when you walk into a room, I would say if I'm the smartest guy in the room, I'm in the wrong room. Right. But generally when I'm in a room with Charles Davis, he's the smartest guy in the room. He'll be the last guy I ever tell you that. What about UT AD? Well, listen, many a times, many a times I've asked him about that when we weren't in as good of a situation as we are now. But Charles has the ability to think 5, ten years down the road, not just a couple of years down the road, but he does have a big time passion for our university at Tennessee volunteers. There's no doubt about that. Charles Davis weighing in on the NFL Draft always a pleasure to have him on Dan helly filling in for rich eisen on the rich eisen show and it is once again time to take a short break, but remember you can listen to us on SiriusXM? "This earlier. I stopped playing pickup basketball. Post COVID because I'm so scared to rupture an Achilles or tear in ACL. I don't have a year to rehab. That's just sounds miserable. I mean, I'm kind of done doing that stuff. Yeah, you do, until you have one major injury. I crash skiing blew up my shoulder, took 6 months to get back to normal. And as you get older, you don't really want to do that anymore. You just want to be able to sleep, not in a chair. I totally understand why pickleball. It seems totally low impact. So, you know, you're not really at risk to kind of blow something out. Well, I'll be curious to see where it goes with all these big time investors, you know, Brady and KD and LeBron and Mark Cuban and new leagues. I don't know how to be good on TV, isn't it a good TV watch? It's a kick-off. I've watched a little bit of it. Some people don't believe that it translates as well as it should or could in TV, but it's like anything else, man. You need big personalities. You need some influencers. You need some people that are going to attract eyeballs, you know? For whatever the case may be. I think one thing the world doesn't need more of Dan or influencers. Okay. Well, pickleball influencers are different than the influencers that are littering your discovery page TJ. You know what I mean? I mean. Charles Davis coming up, I watched him on, so this is, and I know it's kind of the bane of their existence, right? All these guys that do the draft for NFL network, they have a show called path to the draft. And they have to come back on after the draft to kind of wrap it up a little bit. And Charles and DJ were on path to the draft yesterday. I don't know if it was the first or second show after the draft. But you could just see in both of their faces like, all right, can we put a bow on the freaking draft already? I mean, they're getting ready for it for two months. So we'll make it even more painful for Charles as we ask a few more draft questions coming up here in just a few minutes. But the Aaron Rodgers situation is interesting. The jets signed Randall Cobb, the Lakers look phenomenal last night. Joel embiid wins his first MVP. He will be playing tonight against the Celtics in terms of NBA watching. How did you guys get settled in last night? What was the situation? How many screens were on were you, walk me through it, brockman? Rotation of braves and Sox games. Those are always on in my house. And then a heat Knicks was on the second TV. And then once the Laker warriors game started, that went to the big TV. Okay. And then I'm just locked in on the couch. Del two, should I just skip over you're probably in the DJ booth? Yes. Yeah, TJ. These guys know I've been having battling migraines the last couple days, so I was laying on the couch. I was had the game on one TV. I was trying to watch the Tupac documentary on Hulu. On the other TV because we have Alan Hughes, who directed it coming in on Friday, so familiar with that. But yeah, it was just, I was watching it, but I was watching it, you know, kind of like in the dark because too much light was just making my head pound, but yeah, so it wasn't a pleasant evening. But I was watching. I was watching it, I was watching it in the living room, had to take my son out for some rom and he shamed me, wife, out of town, daughter, had a lacrosse game, she's injured, so I was not there. And my son's like, gets home from school, he's like, dad, what are we doing for dinner? Oh, got a bunch of stuff, but, you know, there's all kinds of stuff here. What do you want? We'll figure it out. I want to go out to eat. Why do we need to go out to eat? Dinner. Food here, dude. You don't want to spend time with me? Oh. What a jerk. You see that? It's unbelievable. Of course I want to spend time. I can spend time with you here. He sucked me in. Silver Lake ramen. Oh, wow. Yeah. It was good. So you had to drive the silver Lake from your credit. They opened one down in my head. Okay. But it's easy. Fast casual ish. But anyway, so I got back a little bit late. So just before halftime and I feel like I'm playing catch up and I get to watch the halftime show and then I'm going, but I was locked in, man. Plus when Lakers got up 14, you're thinking oh blow out. And then bam, he's just three, three, three, and then uh oh. Golden's thinking about something, Chris the thing with Golden State is no lead is safe with this team. They can be down 16 with say four minutes left. You're never going to turn the game off 'cause you know, that's 5 shots. Yeah. They can come back with the quickness. So there's elites never safe with this. They tie it up. Steph hits a couple of threes. You know, they came out at halftime and Wiggins had that great putback. He had three, you know, it was really fun game. All right, more NBA talk coming up in just a few minutes, but right after this break, our man Charles Davis from CBS and NFL network to talk a little draft. Man, do you get distracted during the day thinking about your underarm sweating itching or emitting an odor?

"Rat poison he doesn't like is you saying Alabama is going to win this thing by 40 or that's sort of but you just dispense the yummy rat poison, man. And you're right, you can't make a living betting against or Nick Saban or saying that Nick's on the wrong end of a good met of a matchup when it's not involving Georgia. But you look at Tennessee and you see them and you're wondering why not? This is one of those why not now games? Why not? Well, why not? I personally think watching hinden hooker, I think he's going to be top three or four pick. When Warren Kansas City. Okay. Rich. All right. Look at you. And before I let you go, let's talk a little bit about drafts and things of that nature and what we've already seen play out. Joel klutz since you and I, along with Daniel Jeremiah and the brilliant Charles Davis who will definitely be having his eyes peeled on what's going on in Tennessee against Alabama. So what if I had told what if I told you I said like a 30 for 30? If I had told you when we were part in ways that Friday night at the draft in Vegas, Bailey's app is going to throw the first rookie touchdown pass of the NFL season. And be the first rookie winning starting quarterback of the season. How about them apples, right? I certainly wouldn't have guessed that. You would not have gone to the tables with me. You would not have gone to the tables with me then. That's exactly right. That would be my interest. I don't think that we could have even gotten nods on that one, rich. Crazy. It really is crazy. But we did see breece hall. Now we were talking about him that Friday night. And we just saw him with a buck 97 of total scrimmage yards. What do you think of The Rookie class about what we've seen so far through the first 5 weeks of the NFL campaign? I think that they've been pretty, pretty darn good. And you could probably say, and I know that there's a lot of attention being paid to Aidan Hutchinson and maybe his lack of productivity early. But, you know, I thought that, you know, even pivotal, he played well last week. Yes, he's getting his feet wet. And obviously there was a lot of talk about him leading into last year's draft. Where does he fall? And this or that, but he seems to have assimilated incredibly well into the culture of the NFL and then particularly there in New York. Walker has done well. But the guys that we all kind of pegged as like, oh yeah, like this is a really good pick and I bring up brief results specifically. This is exactly what we thought he was going to be a back that after he got his feet wet was going to very quickly be back that could carry the load for even an NFL team early in his career and we're seeing that early. I think it's been a pretty good rookie class to be honest with you. Yeah, I know and then pick it again I don't know you might have been traveling back from Indiana or something like that. But Pickett even though in his first start, the Steelers got waxed by the bills. Just him getting up and I don't know if you saw that he got in Shaq Lawson's face and the team was shoving everyone else off of him and the offensive line came to his aid on the spot. I don't know. There's something about this kid that even though he got waxed in his first career start that there is something there. Like two cents. Seeing that. Here's what I thought when I saw like picket versus trubisky. Is that I don't think Pittsburgh is great. First of all, right? So if you go from that starting point, it just looked like with trubisky, you're just kind of dying to slow death. And with picket, at least he swinging while they're going down. Does that make sense? Like, there's some fight there. And yes, you're going to deal with mistakes, but there's just a little bit more fire there than what the other quarterbacks and I kind of like it. I kind of love it because this guy is going to battle and I still think he's pretty dang good and we'll see what he can do the rest of the year. And then tonight on Thursday Night Football Joel, we've got Carson Wentz going for Washington and Ron Rivera, even though he said it was a mayor culpa moment and he backtracked or apologized to my bad and Mina created distraction when asked the difference between the rest of the NFC east and his team he said quarterback and he stared just like he didn't with a stair like stutter. And so I'm wondering Sam Howell is he a guy that you think we might see here? You get a sense of anything. What do you think, Joel? What do you think of it? I didn't think wince was the problem last week. And I trust a lot of good people in the NFL and they all told me that like, hey, wince was one of their best attributes last week. And granted, I think that turnovers in the time that they happen are magnified. And I think that that's absolutely the case, but in a large degree, he was the only reason that they were in that position to begin with. And so I don't think we're getting close to that. I thought that Ron Rivera was way out of line based on what happened in the game. And you go from there because he was trying to talk about, oh, they've been established and this and that around the other parts of the division. And I'm like, Cooper Russia, you know, I don't know, I kind of felt like I was taking crazy pills. It's like, am I mugato here? Cooper rush is not like a foundational piece for Dallas, am I wrong? No, you are, you are correct. And Daniel Jones, you know, our guy together when you came on this show after the draft where he was drafted saying this is going to set the Giants back a few years and you were right up until day balls arrival, right? I mean, look at him. Dave all has infused an amazing amount of confidence and continuity with that offense. And I think that we would be remiss if we didn't say the other biggest part of what's happened offensively is that you've got a creative offensive mind that's given you a really good game plan and part of that is that their best offensive player and most dynamic player saquon Barkley is healthy. He's back. And when that happens, boy, it becomes easier to play quarterback. No doubt.

"But I was wrong which fit the evaluations because before this whole thing started and I'm going to let Greg get in here because you should. I said before the draft and I stuck to it the entire time. There wasn't a single quarterback in this draft that I had rated as highly as the 5th quarterback last year. And frankly, the 6th quarterback, which was Davis mills of Stanford, who went to the Houston Texans. If Davis mells had played a full year for David Shaw's Stanford this year, I have a sneaking suspicion. We would have been ranking him the number one quarterback coming out this year. So that's where my evaluations were. But as always, that doesn't mean there aren't any stars in this. That remains to be seen. This is all about evaluation. Greg, how did you see it? You know, as you were just talking, and I thought about this over the weekend as well, but it even hit me just more Charles as you were speaking. I wonder, we become so ingrained in thinking that everybody sees the quarterback position now as a second reaction improvisational position. And it's easy to say that because we do see guys whether it's on a homes, whether it's to Josh Allen, do those kinds of things that are really high level. But I wonder if somewhere along the line. And I don't know if this is true or not. As I said, I was just reacting to what you said. If somewhere along the line, team said, you know what? That's all great. But we as coaches work 16 hours a day. We have a whole off season. We put in our system. We want it to be executed. And if you execute it properly within the structure, there's a much higher percentage chance that our offense will run efficiently snap after snap after snap, not waiting for a potentially second reaction improvisational play, which has somewhat of a random field to it. And I'm just wondering if, you know, even with someone like Malik Willis, and I know you watched his tape. I personally did not think his tape this year was that strong overall. Right. Now, can he make plays, of course, but Charles you and I both know coaches and practice don't roll them all out and say, you know, our plan today is to just go make some plays. And I just wonder if somewhere along the line, teams thought, you know what, these guys have some issues playing consistently with in structure, doing the things that are required at the NFL level, snap after snap, they're pretty significant works in progress in that area. So instead of just taking a guy because he can make a few plays, hey, Sam Howell made a lot of plays. Yeah. And I personally think Sam Howell has a chance. But you know what? He wasn't that consistent from the pocket. He would tell you that. I spoke to him at the combine. He said to me, I didn't have a very good year. Those were his words. So I think that teams, who knows, I'm trying to give maybe a little more of a 3000 foot view of how teams might have thought because Malik woolens would have been seen, I think, by a lot of people, is, oh, you got to go get them because he can make plays, but obviously teams didn't go get them. I love that. I absolutely love that grip. I'm glad you brought that into play because there's a quarterback of retired and unretired.

"The New York Jets and also college football for ESPN for years and years and years and years and for decades and decades and decades, breaking down the all 22 for NFL films is Greg cosell, who Greg, I'm just happy that you've made it to the finish line with me, you know, at your advanced age to get all the way through the trace. I think it's impressive that we've made it this far together. Well, you know, if I just to show you how crazy I am, I'm still gonna take one more week and watch some guys that I missed. Now that I've seen the draft. So fortunately, there were only three guys in the first three rounds, three players that I had not seen in the first three rounds, 'cause I think I'm up to about 210 guys now that I've seen. And in my one man scouting service. So, you know, it takes a little time as you know bob. Yeah, you're the definition of unwell, which is why we have a guest to try to balance this out, and it is the incomparable. Charles Davis, who joins us here on tape heads draft season. Of course, on CBS during the NFL season, you'll hear him analyzing games, but of course, on the NFL network, he was covering the draft, put out mock traps all the way leading up to the draft, so it broke down these prospects, Greg probably about as deeply as you did. And Charles, thanks so much for doing this with us. We appreciate it. Hey bob Greg, thank you so much for having me. This is fantastic. And I can't wait to talk a little ball with you and, you know, bob with you being the radio voice of the New York jets. I have to feel that you're feeling pretty good about what you saw, come off the board and Greg, you know, I know we're gonna talk quarterbacks, which, you know, you know all the players, but you are a true quarterback guru and everyone in our league, I know checks to see what you say about quarterbacks because it checks out really, really well. And last but not least, mock drafts, as we all know, are made to be put out there for us to be mocked once we put them out. There you go. Is there any chance guys you'll allow me to take all three of mine and use them in combination? So what better when it's all said and done? Because it different ones, I got different guys, like I put Tyler linder ball to Baltimore at 14 with my second mock draft, but didn't do it with my final mock trap. You see where I'm going. So can I get credit for one thing? Absolutely. Picking at 20 to Pittsburgh on my first one, but not my last oh, that's right. It doesn't count that way. But this should be like the SAT. You get to like super score.

"If you ask me, that has to know people. That would be his only red flag. Only red flag hollandaise has been said, God bless you. Oh man, all right. Story the draft going in based on your sitting at the breakfast table and here in pretty much every narrative from soup to nuts is what? What do you got? Mystery and chaos. I'm really excited for this draft rich. And I'm most excited, I think, for Friday morning. Because people are going to be so mad and so flummoxed because this is this great part of the draft process where the general fan that we love and respect, they're just convinced and they think that the mock drafts are right. They think that they're going to be accurate and mock drafts are a fun exercise. They're an exploration of what could happen, but when someone's favorite team doesn't take Malik Willis because Lance sirloin said they would and the fan loses their mind. Yes, that's the way it works. And I was just looking, I was doing a mock roundup. So even if you just look at the mocks in the NFL media group of which there are about 8, this stress is crazy because normally you know, you have the first three or four picks, you kind of know they're coming or they're leaked and you're kind of thinking as a fan. Let's get to the crazy picks. Let's get to the drunk picks. They're all talk. All 32, 9 different players mocked into the top 5. We have Kenny Pickett going to the Lions at two. We have Kenny Pickett going to the Lions at 32. Schrager has Matt corral going in the first round. Charles Davis, Desmond Ritter, Peter king has Malik Willis falling out of the first round and both Cynthia Freeland and Bucky Brooks have zero quarterbacks in the first round. It's already three Irish car bombs deep at the bar. So march must have been a major Jell-O shot then. Because this whole thing's been drunk ever since Brady said he was on retiring for two days before free agency. This whole thing has been off its axis. And you remember, you know, I'm just talking about the picks. Let's not forget if you're out having a bender with your Friends and you're just having beers or whatever. And someone has this terrible idea of, let's do some mind erasers, guys. The mind erasers in this sense are in the middle of the draft. Oh, by the way, deeper Samuel was just traded and breaking news, Jimmy Garoppolo was traded and Baker Mayfield was traded. Those aren't even the picks. Those are the minor racers that you drink from bottom up with a straw and then you pass out in a gutter. And that's not even the main course of the 32 picks. People say, oh, this draft is down. I love this dress. Well, I don't know if debo will be traded during a draft, that's got to happen in the next 48 I would assume. And I have no idea what the hell happened where some difference in debo's mind became irreconcilable. And we've all been sleuthing it out all week long. What is your two cents on the subject matter? Well, I think the simplest one is he's just making this rather garish power play just to get paid by the niners and that it's all smoke and that he's throwing a fit and he's putting messages out and just he sat there and he watched everybody get paid at his position and kind of came late in the season well after tyreek got paid and devonta and he's just throwing a fit and all the things are nonsense and he just wants to be paid and it's just a good old fashioned pay me wide receiver thing. The other thing is just something deeper that he sees himself as this other position. He doesn't like how he was being used. Look, I've heard maybe he doesn't like Trey Lance. I put all kinds of things. All I know is that if I'm trading for him and somebody sends the niners everything not nailed down to get deebo Samuel, I don't want him showing up and saying, I'm a wide receiver. I play the X out there. I know I want him to play debo. I want him to do the whole depot thing. So if he has some sort of feelings or a prerogative that this is right that I am a classical wide receiver and don't use me up in the backfield, I'm not interested. That's part of the degree of difficulty here because you have to get permission from the forty-niners to talk to him. Because you do, it's so rare you want to talk to a wide receiver to acquire him in the first question isn't how much or that question is how much it's not about money. It's about how much would you be willing to let us use you at running back because it's not because he's not a good wide receiver he's actually a very talented wide receiver who's very physical and can run away from people. It's the issue of how he's used that makes him unique. That makes him debo as you pointed out. And you'd have to have that conversation and that's all got to happen in the minute the niners actually give permission to speak to him, kind of gives up the play that I think they're going to make, which is call him up Thursday night and go, well, the draft is started and you're still with us because we're not giving you up. I know you saw Devante get what he wanted and you saw tyreek get what he wanted, but what we want is what we hope you want now because you're still here, you know? Yeah. All right, I've always said that draft picks draft picks are just scratchers. They're very appealing and they're fun and you have a bunch of them and they feel like money until you start getting the penny out and scratching them off and oh my gosh, this one didn't work. This one didn't work. This one didn't work. Sometimes none of them work. The real players are real cash money in your hands. Deebo Samuel is a proven star however expensive. You might be, I don't know if any of these guys are going to amount to anything. And that's the fun of the draft. It's not cash. It's the scratcher thing you buy. It's got cool pictures on it. You got all kinds of fun and a lot of times you end up broke. So anybody who could trade anything for debo, I'm still advocating for a top ten pick. I don't care. If you can do it, and you can pay them in the niners, say we have no choice. I would do it. Kyle Brandt here on the rich eisen show from good morning football. Smoke them if you got them for the bears, huh? On Thursday night. You know, if anything from them, I feel like they'll be trading assets. I just think we have Justin Fields and anybody else come and get them. We are going a full threat to trade, sell, beg, borrow deal, anything. The flu is loose with the head coach and he's like, if they were going to start this whole thing over, anybody but fields. If anything they'll trade back, if anything, they'll trade players. But I wish I could tell you some fiery thing that the bears are going to do. That was last year rich. And I remember sitting at the desk and watching you, you were there at the desk and the Giants logo on the bottom left part of the screen and just magically it changes to a bear's logo and all of Chicago exploded and then I think we just saw him turn into a crash test dummy combined with a rodeo clown for about 6 months and now we're trying to put something around them..

Somebody wants to cost. By the way, do you think anybody heard my baker point of view about the dog is actually taking it seriously? Oh, absolutely. Because humans, I mean, baker. What type of guy are you, man? There's a dog on his on his back. Because right now, summer back. Straight legs in the air just want to just like the bellies right there. Reach over, give her scratch. Come on now, man. Human are you? Hold on a second. I was really disrespected, but I just got it. That's it. I was disrespected, but hold on, let me scratch this dog. Talk about brown's disrespect, and by giving a dog a belly rub. And the dog pounds like, you never gave up as a rub. I think he did. Perfect. For one year. One year. I had one year. The dog. That is true. By the way. Did you imagine he plays Pittsburgh? Does that almost beats the chiefs? Starts this season against the chiefs, does what he does against the chiefs because he remember the browns lost that game on defense. They were winning. And then all of a sudden, he hurts his arm. And if he had just basically said, I need surgery, right then and now shut it down. What do you think he would be on that couch on that podcast? He's probably still the starter. Because they have no choice but to pick up his 5th year and then he's a starter. Well, he picked up his 50 or anyone. I mean, paid that man. Okay. "Can go get a guy like that. That's where I'm going with the Cleveland Browns. They could go from a spot, a wild card to winning the division. One never knows. So, deebo went in that draft 36th overall, AJ Brown in 2019 went 51st overall DK Metcalf 64th overall the browns get one at 44th overall. Look out. Number four on my list, Christopher brockman, could you imagine? If the New England Patriots who in that 2019 draft went Nikhil Harry and did not get any of these three rod receivers were talking about. Could you imagine if New England rectifies all that and goes and gets Mac Jones, somebody like Jamar chase, somebody who runs away from the defense, someone who pirouettes and comes up with 200 yard games. Just with just three four catches in the arms that they were on. What would happen if the New England Patriots got that guy? And put him in an offense with Matt Jones in year two. And we see something like that. What if it's jamison Williams? What if something like that happens, right? Give me one of those images. We see what I don't give you one of the Bama guys, but we saw what tua and waddle could do. We saw what burrow and chase could do. What if you give somebody that Mac Jones would know? Just putting that together. Number three on the list is what if the Baltimore Ravens go and get Lamar Jackson, a receiver, like one of these guys that we're mentioning in the draft. Because again, it's been three straight years where some kid comes off a campus and just lights it up in the league and changes the dynamic and the potential fortunes of a team that drafts him. What if Hollywood Brown, the guy that they hoped Hollywood Brown could be, and could still be, never know, what if that kid goes in the Baltimore Ravens in the running attack comes back in the defense plays the way that they have been and everybody stays healthy. Ravens go on a Super Bowl run gents. If Jamar, if chase got if Jamar got the Bengals where they were, could you imagine if Lamar gets somebody like chase? Number two on the list, I think everyone's gonna know the way this thing finishes up. Tyreek hill's gone, folks, and that's part of the reason why I didn't even have the chiefs is the best team in their division when I said the top 5 teams in the AFC and I pissed off stone street in every single one of my chiefs Friends. So what if the chiefs at the end of the first round or somehow in the second round may be go and get somebody just as game breaking as they got hell deep in the draft years ago? And then you pair that person up with Kelsey and MVS and juju. What if they don't miss a beat very much with tyreek hill? I understand what I'm saying when I say those words out loud. What if the chiefs hit on a wide receiver in the same way that the Vikings did in the Bengals did and the niners did and the Seahawks did and the Titans did, again, AJ Brown, as we know when he is healthy and they can strike, he can change a game. He did against the niners, actually, on Thursday Night Football this year, and we thought he wasn't going to play. Number one on the list, you can all guess it. You know it. It's the packers. They've got two first round picks. What if they get one for Aaron Rodgers? What if they finally hit in a first round on a wide receiver for Aaron Rodgers? What if that finally happens? We all know devonte Adams turned into what he turned into, and Devante is gone, and we all know the packers are going in this direction, don't we? We know it. Everybody knows it. What if they don't do it? Because the board doesn't fall. I don't do it. Guys, two weeks from tonight, if Aaron Rodgers doesn't get a wide receiver, with either one of those first two first round picks because of the way the board falls and they had a best player available or whatever. Whatever drink he's having, I'll have what he's having and then he'll have a double. They're going to go get him one. What if the packers get one of these? What if they get themselves adjusted Jefferson or Jamar chase for Aaron Rodgers? Look out. Right? Look out, that would make 2022 that much more interesting. And that's the way I'm rolling. Obviously, there's so many different teams that could use one of these guys. My jets could use one of these guys. The bears for Justin Fields could use one of these guys. Everybody could use a game changing one to see for. I don't know if it would change the fortunes is significantly as it would for the 5 teams I just mentioned. Top 5 right there. 8 four four two O four rich number of dollar Kurt Warner coming up an hour number three on this program. Your phone calls in a news update an hour three. Did I miss any? You want to throw a couple out there, Jens? I was thinking of Dallas to be honest with you, but they have CD lamb. You know, but they also on the same way that browns have Amari Cooper. I'm assuming gallop does come back healthy. At some point, middle of the season don't know, but they did lose Cedric Wilson and Amari Cooper and what if they get one of those kids in the giraffe? Like that with CD lamb. I mean, that's why I was going to go there a little bit. San Francisco might need another wide out. I don't know, are you 'cause don't forget depot in year one look terrific and year two kind of year three was his big step. I'm wondering if year three is that big step for aiyuk. I don't know. I don't know. Something was off there last year. Tell me about it. The first half of the year, he was absolutely in the doghouse. But then he started coming on strong a little bit in December or stronger, right? I was thinking of going in that direction. But he's at the end. There's Michael Pittman that's there. You lose a monster. But if they go and get somebody else, he's a monster, but we'll need to see it. He hasn't been a monster. No, but Indianapolis is another good one, another good another good one there. Miami clearly, and the bills don't need they're too fast. Right. They're not going to go in that direction. Denver has, again, that's what we hear about Denver and from their fans is that the horses are there from Judy to Sutton the handler. Right. That they're there. The horses are there and wait till you see these horses run with the trigger man now being Russ. So, you know what I was thinking of Pokémon looking forward to that. You know, I was thinking of putting out there too is the Chargers. Right? Do you think Keenan's at the end? I don't know. But I know, but I was thinking about it, then pulled up. Keenan still. The obvious one, too, is Philly. Because they're the ones who took Rhaegar. Instead of Jefferson, and that video, by the way, of the Vikings being on their internal zoom, finding out that the eagles left them Justin Jefferson, it took Reagan instead is something that will be very difficult for eagles fans to swallow. They were laughing, right? Rick spielman and Zimmer neither of them are there anymore, but they ain't going to be there now? That might be happening. Our number three, call us, we'll have time to take your call. That's for sure. How wrestling really works, and how you get the ratings. Eric Bischoff, and Conrad Thompson explain. "Now that he just did, I don't think is in the quarterback market. So baker may feel trying to find a spot as you mentioned, they're drying up. The Rookie quarterbacks will have to, I do think that Davis mills coming out last year also affected this year's draft. Well, for sure, I mean, and then the Texans have a couple of first rounders now because guess what? The Cleveland Browns took deshaun Watson, leaving Mayfield looking for a spot. It really is amazing how drafts intertwine and obviously from year to year and obviously with what's going on in real time for an NFL season and part of the town evaluation roster building. Charles, I'll see you in Las Vegas Nevada, thanks for the time right here. I was looking forward to it rich and I'm not going to pull the Don sheet or all that I want to. I want to wear that evil knievel outfit on opening night. Well, I mean, there's three days in front of the Bellagio fountain two nights one day, Charles. There's many opportunities for all of us to do that. At what point will we want to recreate evil jumping, jumping out? No, it's a Caesars fountain. That's just up the road just up the road a little bit. Right. Maybe should I wear the Carl Reiner fisherman's hat? Should I wear that? At some point in time. I'm liking it and I won't bring it. I will bring the Matt demon Linus notes. Trust me, you and I will be making oceans 11 references. Nonstop, two weeks from tonight, when we start. Thanks for the call, Charles, take care of yourself. Yeah, you do the same merch. Thanks for everything. The one and only Charles Davis will be hanging out way too much in Las Vegas, Nevada shortly right here on the rich eisen show. Great point by Charles there about Davis mills. Last year I remember his Friday night and they chose the Texans. It was their first draft choice of the night as they were sitting there smoking them while I got them on that Thursday night in Cleveland and the first round of Friday night in Cleveland because they were still paying the bills that Bill O'Brien had racked up and then they draft Davis mills. Remember that? That was when Deshawn was had already said I'm not going back there and his off the field choices were becoming well known and wondering if he's going to come back when he would ever be back? And they chose Davis mills and he had without a doubt the best rookie quarterback season not named Mac Jones. Of any quarterback in last year's draft. He was terrific. It was an interestingly enough. He almost beat the browns in Cleveland and interestingly enough, drafted it a draft in Cleveland where deshaun Watson now resides and Baker Mayfield is no longer employed. Well, he's technically still employed. He's not going back there. He ain't gonna be there. To use the magic. So Davis make the right move coming out last year. It looks like right now. I mean, he's a starting NFL. I don't know if the guy I don't know if the guy is sitting to my left would say that. You're not him. I mean, the guy's sitting in my left on draft night. David Shaw, I would think, you know, David would have liked to have had one more year with him. Clearly. I guess what would you say? You want to make that choice? Would you rather be in year. Two? In Texas, in Houston, would you rather be in year one in where would that be? It'd probably be in Detroit, right? Don't you think? As Jacksonville's not taking him number one. But what if Davis mills was so good, this plus the bag of chips and and coming from Stanford, you know, you'd hear all those John Elway comparisons first overall could Stanford guy be first overall. Someone would maybe trade up. I don't know. The number one. Go get them. Carolina. Or would you rather be where you are? One year under your belt too. I think if you're Davis mills, you'd rather be where you're at right now because also you're going to hit free agency or you're re ups and say he has a really good year this year, right? Maybe that like Justin Herbert kind of breakout, like he's going to get absolutely paid much sooner, whereas in a few is the first overall pick or a first rounder this year, that team has a 5th year control. Plus sometimes I guess he made the right decision. Plus he got 600 grand in the bank and he's just starting on a phone QB right now. Texas. And he's got a great body. I just remember again that night when he was drafted, we were all like, what the hell are they doing? Now, they got their guy with or the guy they believe can be their guy with a year under his belt and a lot of experience. And they don't have to be in the quarterback market this year, which is low. One would think. 8 four four two O four rich number to dial your phone calls when we come back, the wide receiver draft and how it can affect potentially your team and their fortunes. I'll hit that before hour number three and Kurt Warner.

"Came back with sting Lee at ten for you, if I remember correctly, maybe I'm off a little bit, but there's put it on display all this in today without a bump. Sting Lee, I think the most talented corner in the deal. But the last two years have been a little, how do we say uneven? All right? If we get in 2019, Derek stingley, I think you take him and you jump on him at four, you keep moving. But now with Gardner, the way that he's played and done it for all these years and continue to ascend. That's why he's the number one corner in this draft. All right, before I let you go, Charles Davis, you had Malik Willis at 6 for Carolina. Boy, that would be so monumental that Carolina with their one draft choice in the first two nights of the draft uses it on a quarterback, let alone somebody with a huge upside, but obviously not enough experience to throw in one would think this year. Walk me through why you think that what you're hearing about and your evaluation of the quarterbacks were at large, Charles. In large part, rich, I'm kind of taking a general manager. In this case, Scott fitter at his word. And then that doesn't mean anything this time of year, right? I mean, but we all play liar's poker, okay? And you should. Don't tell the world everything you do. But I thought he was someone. I thought he was being, I don't think he's been disingenuous a few weeks ago. You remember that presser, rich, what he said at a certain point? You have to take a shot in the top ten to try and get that quarterback. Does it mean that you always do it? You've got to have as good education. I mean, he went to a number of things that I thought that sentence was telling to me. And so again, as you're doing a mock draft and offensive tackle makes sense for them there, you know, can they help can they help with other positions, obviously? But I put what was there as opposed to Kenny Pickett, who was the top ranked quarterback in this draft, but this reason. Oftentimes when things haven't worked out the way you wanted to, you go a little bit opposite of what you've had before. Can you pick it in play style is very similar to Sam darnold? Does it mean Kenny Pickett will have more success to Sam Donald. But play style, stature, very similar. Willis looks a lot like what that rule had to deal with in college with music Baylor and temple. And as a guide coach is crazy. That extra mobility, the quarterback run game, the RPO action, all those things. So I kind of went opposite and again, there is a little bit of element. Can you distinguish your mock draft from someone else's? And that was part of it. And I was leaving with this rich. I told people this and I will take the lie detector test, all right? I will be like an Ocean's Eleven when he had to pass it. To get through to make sure that he can work and he's stepping on the tack all the time to make sure the answer's got messed up. I will take it clean. My first four mock drafts before I submitted one, I didn't have a single quarterback in the first round. And then I realized I was just unrealistic for today's NFL. Right. I had to come back and try and find spots for people. Well, and it is a remarkable aspect of this draft. We're always focused on quarterbacks, Charles and last year we had 5 in the first round that Mayfield where he winds up might be determined by who gets which rookie quarterback in this draft. If Seattle gets Desmond Ritter, they might be less likely to go get Mayfield for this year. Carolina does get anybody 6th overall. That would probably dry up a spot from Mayfield there. If both Seattle and Carolina get one, I have no idea where Mayfield wants up. None. Zero. It's a great point. And think of this rich. We're going to be sitting with our buddy and colleague David Shaw, the head coach at Stanford. Yes. That's such a terrific job with his ten straight year doing the draft with you. We're going to be sitting with him on opening night, and we're going to be talking about these quarterbacks. His quarterback last year, Davis mills, remember how much fun we had when he went in the third round of Houston. And now he is their starter. If he had stayed in school rich, I firmly believe we'd be talking about him at the top of this quarterback draft this year. He would be the number one quarterback off the board. Because he went in the third round last week because he had a lot of 11 starts in college. I think if he had stayed played throughout this one, would be talking about Davis milk and again,.

"These two weeks, you never want to wish your life away, but when you're going to have fun with your buds, you can get the hang with you again. And if there's any way possible, we can break Andy García like do it. Yeah, you know what? He just had a birthday the other day. So maybe we'll just we'll just say, hey, how about a birthday wish hang out with me and DJ and Charles Davis and David Shaw on the first night of the draft? Is it possible for us to store our documents in your vault? Yes. Of course. That's exactly the way we put it. That's exactly what we do. So let's get right into it. Sir, Aidan Hutchinson is the first name we hear two weeks from tonight. Do you think? What do you think? The books are there. And you know doing mock drafts or is it, how do you distinguish your background from other people's and for me? Is it plausible? Is it a possibility? It's very hard. Those pass rushers at the top, breaking that down. I think it's going to come down to Hutchinson or Trayvon walker, and I just don't think Jacksonville could afford to make a mistake at the top. You know, in recent years, their drafts at the top have not been what you would expect, you know, the number one guys not producing the way you want to. They touch it soon. Feels about as safe as you can go right now in addition to you think he's going to give you terrific plans. I'd be surprised if his name doesn't roll out. So where do we stand right now? That's not the royal we I guess that's a royal you. Where do you stand now on cave on thibodeau? You were on the concourse set DJ and I were in the booth and Willie mcginest was on the field at the very moment when thibodeau put on his sweatshirt after running a 40 to say that he wasn't going to be working out after he told all teams that he was going to work out his pro day as we knew was his dynamic as his game film when he plays his hardest because that's been the question about his game film. So I've said it all up to put the moment in your hands now. Where do you stand on thibodaux going into the draft in two weeks? Charles. Richard, just did an article in every year I do one now. It started with guys I thought deserved a first round grade and I'd be involved with it too. What I call guys I found the table for you. You remember how Mike mayock used to talk about that all the time. You found the table for this guy. Are you standing on the table for him? And I put cave on thibodeau in my guys I would pound the table for because it feels to me like every year there's at least one player that goes through a thibodeau going through this year, a terrific player who had a couple of dented in the chassis and we come at them and when I say we have to all of us in football and for him, it happens a lot with these pass rusher. So I actually went and did a little bit of homework because I was with you when all that happened. You remember when I chimed in and said, I did a radio show with kayvon tiptoe after point biking. I'm going to do everything because I'm a competitor. So surprised to me as well. So I went back and asked some past general managers. The people who have been involved give me some names of great pass rusher who you had voter questions on coming into that actually made it to the other side it did well. And two names that consistently came up in recent vintage miles Garrett. And in past past, terrific players, Bruce Smith. So I'm betting on him, maturing, doing the things, sometimes we come to these kids really hard. I'm betting on the other side and him coming out of it. So I still don't think he gets out of the top 5. And obviously, definitely not out of the top ten. So top 5, you say where you think Detroit would take a shot out of him, do you think? I think Detroit's going to kick the tires on it, but I think Detroit is going to probably go. If they don't think I should say they take Trayvon walker. And I know that thibodeau had a visit with Detroit. So you know they're doing due diligence on him. I think it really the bidding starts at three. Houston would love the smith. That's a great spot for him. And I think the Giants are going to want to pass rusher to me to be interested to see if the Giants want to take a tackle first. If one's available, or if they take the pass rusher at 5, 'cause you're talking about 7 and he's kind of made for Broadway and dude I both know what the Giants are about as an organization. As a fan base, this still chanting defense defense for Andy robust selling. That's how the time frame. Charles Davis here on the rich eisen show. Then we get to the New York teams and you mentioned how the Giants would take a pass rusher, but they might want to pass protector first in your mock draft. You have the jets going, it's jets first, then John's four, 5. You have the jets taking icky iguana who we have on tomorrow show who I met at the draft. I mean, what a delightful kid, right? And he's also terrific at what he does, why do you think the jets do that? Charles before I go with who I think the jets should take fourth overall. Yeah, you know, and again, that's your squad, you know that. But I think that beckson, Mackay, beckton, has an answer to all the questions when you're starting to talk about he's in a competition with George fant. Instead of, hey, one is going to play one back on one go play the other contacts come into play. You're always trying to get better up front, especially with that young quarterback Zach both did I believe they're actually sold on. You know, with the Tam darnold they went for it. They kept thinking, thinking, this one I thought they already sold. Even though it wasn't the greatest rookie year in history, this kid really came on late, give him more opportunities to be upright in and throw the ball down field. I do think it would not surprise me at all. If they paired another receiver with him and the other part of that is, I do think the corner comes into play. No, that's me for. I want sauce. I want sauce at four. I want that. Look, clearly at ten, the jets are going to have an opportunity at a top notch receiver. I think at least one of the Ohio State receivers will be there. I think Drake London can possibly be there. Jameson Williams, I mean, I had Nick Saban on the show just yesterday and Nick was talking about Williams will be ready for the season in his estimation. But to me, I need somebody who's going to look at tyreek hill, Stefan Diggs, Gabriel Davis, who's going to look at somebody who the jets face at a top match wide receiver. I'll take them. That's what they need. Whether he was ready or not, I don't know. We had Luke fickle on and Luke said, I didn't think he was ready the first time I put him in, and then we looked at each other saying, why did we think otherwise? So, you know what I mean? Perfect sense to me that, you know, the jets because I think in my mock draft, I think I.

"Next time we have Costner on, we pitch him. We pitch him the idea. Billy chapel gets pulled due to pitch count. See what he says. And John C Reilly was the catcher in that movie. That's what we will tell Costner. You got to remake the movie, but this time Billy gets pulled due to pitch count, and also what force time through the order? Sorry. Yeah. Another time we just got to bring in our 100. We got to bring in nuclear loose. The hard throwing kid. Who immediately goes up a hit. That was what. That's what happened yesterday. Came in and gave up a hit to Gary Sanchez. Who's terrible. His only hit of the week. It's not terrible. Gary's not known for his contact ability. Yeah. He's a 200 hitter. He's the walk strike out in home run guy. He's also a cat. The Yankees gave up the Yankees gave away. Sent away, finally sent away. Traded away. And one of the guys they have there is now Joey Gallo, who is a strike walkout home run guy. Right. But his an outfielder who can catch. That's true. As opposed to the catcher who can't catch. He just makes me nervous watching him get in the batter's box. Gallo? Yeah. He is high risk. I reward. He just, he's got all of these mannerisms and moves and ticks. And whatever. And it's just like, I get nervous, I can't watch him get ready for an at bat. I just can't. But again, his at bats, and he's supremely talented, right? When you say he's a very talented baseball player, Joey Gallo. Yeah. Okay, yeah. He is, he is what I have difficulty watching. Because he gets it, he gets up there and not only forget just the mannerisms and all that. He gets in there, shift. Here comes a shift. But it comes with a massive shift. Like literally the field tilts. Okay, towards the right side. When he's there. And it's just like, okay, here we go. He's either going to strike out and he's going to be really patient to get the pitch that he knows. He still wants to pull anyway. And see he's going to either walk. He's going to strike out where this is leaving the yard. And if it's a single, it's going to be one of those that's damn near caught by the shortstop or third baseman that stationed in right center field. And you know what I mean? And it's every time it's what it is, every time. And to me, it's kind of like, we're in the minority. It's not as watchable. It's just not as watchable. And then last night, during the game, this pitch calm thing. That has been created for anti stealing, but also to keep the game moving, right? You're not going like one, two, three, four, and you're shaking it off one, two, three, four, shaking it off and then finally. And then that's it. Okay. I hear it. The one barrios is hat. He couldn't hear it. At one point, it's first and second, and Yankees are down three nothing, and I'm like, okay, here we go. This could be one of those. I'll take the home run here out of the three results. I'll take the Homer. I'll take the walk. I'll take two thirds of what could possibly be right here. Timeout, what are we calling time out for? He can't hear it. Or it's not working. This connection. And so the catcher comes running out, he's taking his hat off and he's putting it towards his right ear. And so now this is baseball, where this thing is not working, and he's trying to hear it, and they're trying to test it one more time. Catcher comes out, so now you have to say, we're going back to the old fashioned way. The signs, right? So then the catcher then goes to his other arm where he's got like the play sheet where you rip it open and he's holding up the number four or three because that's the column that they're going to go for because that's the signs that they're going to drop on the column three and barrios is holding up. Which one are we doing? Two, three. So now we have to come up with the sign for which columns of signs they're going to use. And all I kept thinking is like the naked gun. Let's get Frank drebin out here. Let's get him like looking for the nail file and the drill and whatever. And then clear him up and then just, okay, play ball. Keep him in there. Honestly, it was just absurd. Maybe baseball's just not for us anymore. I can't, I can't, I can't go there. I still can't. Can't quit it. I know. I still can't do it. You know? It does make me happy, I guess that's just a New England thing. It does make me happy to complain about it. 'cause I'm still gonna watch, even though I probably shouldn't. It would make me happier to not watch. But it also makes me happy to complain and bitch and moan. I don't know. 'cause it's still, again, with coop really getting into little league right now. It's just, those games are fun to watch. They really are. You know? And kids, and there's none of the crapo that goes along. Yeah, there's no pitch calm. There's a pitch count. There is a pitch count. Because we're not. I don't buy it, but there's no ships. Why not shifting? By the way. We're just trying to catch some of your manager that you should start shifting. And just to see what other the parents do on the other team. Start the shifting. Start shifting in little week. Just do it as a kind of a gag, like not being serious. Okay. Just to see what happened. Sounds good. Would you tell coop to bunt? Hell no. Hell no. Maybe they would be shifting for him. He's a left man. Come on, man. He's shifting. Come on. I don't know. There may be some metrics. There should be some analytics here for ten, 11 year olds. I don't know. Can you imagine, are we going to see that the little league World Series this year? Massive shifts. Big Al. That's all I choose. Hit dingers. Hit danger. And then now it's going to be, hey, my name's big Al, all I do is I go to right center field from third base when this lefty comes up. On the third baseman. I'm big Al. What I do is I'm only in there for the first two go through the lineup that my manager comes and takes me out. I don't want to be this guy. Let's take a break. We'll be back here on the rich eyes and show Charles Davis will join us here on the program. And then later on this hour, I'm fascinated by the wide receiver group and what it can possibly do for which for a specific team or let's say 5. "With our third hour guest, pro football Hall of Famer Kurt Warner. He's part of our first round coverage. And he'll be joining us to give us his two cents on what he sees on the quarterback front. I am sure he is already ground to tape on the top 5 quarterbacks who I would say would be what they would be who. They'd be Malik Willis. They would be Kenny Pickett. They would be Matt corral. They would be Sam Howell and they would be Desmond Ritter, correct? Those are your top 5. Would you say? I bet you those are the 5 whose tape he is grinding. Right now to come up with that. Desmond Ritter rising, dude. We heard that a few weeks ago, didn't we? Visited with the Seahawks. If they fell in love with the guy, and they love his tape and now they love him. Ah, I don't think they're going for Baker Mayfield. They'll see if they can get this guy, although Ian rappaport said, he thinks it's the other way around that somebody's going to go get baker before the drafts of the know that they don't have to use one of their draft choices on a quarterback. Who will be cheaper? Baker will be cheaper. Well, for one year. Right. And a third or fourth round pay. Not going to take much to get him. And then he's on your team. And then you will most likely stardom, although he said that he thinks baker could be one of those veteran backups for the future to be used for the future. I don't, I don't know. You're going to bring him on and say, you're our guy, you go coach up this kid or go be mister chips, be the teacher, or you're the veteran here, and we'll turn you if we need you, put them in the role of, you know, what would you say? He's a Nick Foles type guy. He's a pastel. No, I mean, really. He's Hoyer? You know what I mean? Like, you think it'll be cool with that? In that role, which is, we'll need you if we will come get you if we need you. Right? So, I don't see how a team would go ahead and do something like that. But Ian threw that out there and his whole entire appearance can be found on our YouTube stream. YouTube dot com slash Richards and she'll be one of the now 401,000 subscribers to our page. We appreciate that. The show began with me lamenting the decision that Dave Roberts and Clayton Kershaw made together, which was to not go for a perfect game. Ian met fan along with you TJ point out Johann Santana came up with the first ever no hitter in the history of the mets and it turned out to ruin his career. So today's today's the day where Clayton Kershaw's career is not ruined, but he will never get the opportunity back to pitch a perfect game or at least have only 6 outs to go. I would think even though he said maybe we'll get a chance again at some wishful thinking. Every time you take them out, you have a chance. Well, here's high percentage. And the problem is what I kind of tried to bring it all full circle in the beginning of the show is that baseball has become operated in such a way that I don't think he will have that opportunity. Most days. I don't think he will, because the numbers say this and the pitch count says that, and the batting average third time through the order says this. And the history of him versus the second guy in the lineup who's coming up for the third time is that. And his age is this and his pitch count is that. Did I mention pitch count? I mean, that's the way all those things. Now, all those things have to fall directly into place. And we as fans now know that. So when a decision is made by Roberts and Kershaw, we don't sit there and believe it's made out of an abundance of caution, our first thought is it's made out of an over abundance of metrics. And even if it is made out of an abundance of caution, it is now part and parcel of a sport that is all about the long marathon. All about the long marathon, just to get to the postseason in a way that they don't go for it and throw caution to the wind in every at bat in the same way that it happens during the playoffs. Where every mini every at bat is a mini game that has to be won on the spot. By bringing in 100 100 mile an hour reliever to start a game because then you're going to get your starter as the second pitcher because you're going to be working their way here and we don't care who's going to be starting game 5. We just don't. We just need to get through game one. And every result is a walk or a strikeout or a home run because the way it's played analytically in the field with the shift. And so when a decision like this is made, you just throw your hands up as a fan and go, what are we doing here? Fair or not. Dennis in Las Vegas, Nevada, where I will be two weeks from tonight for the draft. What's up, Dennis? First of all, absolutely fantastic show and maybe thank you. But you are pitching one today. Your analysis has been beautiful, especially about the music. I went through the same thing with my kids, but let me tell you something. I have a similar background than you. I grew up a met fan in Brooklyn. A lot baseball. All the great moments in history have been when they pushed themselves to the limit. When colfax pitched on two days rest and threw a shutout in the World Series, when Jack Morris pitched in his arm was falling off against Atlanta, when Pedro Martinez came in a one day rest and be Cleveland, these are the memories that we have. And this Santana analogy is not a fair comparison. These are a 136 pitches that gave. Cursor had 80 pictures. I mean, come on, you've got to let him go for something historic like that. That would have been a memory that would last forever. And to take that away with this analytics is why baseball has been ruined. That is steroids. We ruined the game we loved because we can't even have a conversation with our kids or relatives about the past because there's no comparison when you got bonds hitting 73 home runs and what happened yesterday was a crime horrible. I couldn't agree with you more of you couldn't have said it any more perfectly and I appreciate that of everything about it. Thank you, Dennis. And I appreciate you saying that, unfortunately, I've reached my word count brockman's taking me out for the rest of the show, unfortunately. Great job, get some rest. I need you down the street. Thank you. It's a long season. It's a long year. Thanks, April's. Dennis, thanks so much. Appreciate the two cents and the con words. That's a Dennis in Las Vegas. Knew exactly where that guy was from. As soon as he started talking. Eric and Florida, you're here on the rich eyes and show what's up, Eric. Hey, well, thanks for taking my call, I've been a fan for a while. Thank you. I have a different take on what you said about baker's dog. As you are, when it's all shows as value like that, you don't need to talk to me. He's happy. He's healthy. But don't want to scratch. What are you talking about? And he's going to say what did you do? And first scratch, and the fact that baker's not giving him a scratch is just, you know, I think it's a red flag. It's a red flag. I disagree. But I appreciate your opinion, but no, you don't even go and you scratch them after the interview's over. But you're absolutely right about Clayton. They should have let him go. They should let him go the entire round. Maybe he would have done the perfect game, but we should have really seen the opportunity to have it happen. Okay, so we'll agree to disagree on one and agree on the other and the degree to disagrees. I think the dog and baker's interview deserve to scratch. And we agree that Clayton should have not been scratched. That's it. Fair enough. Thank you so much. Thank you, sir. Greatly appreciate it. There you go. Right here. I can floor. That could have been Clayton's Billy Chappell moment. And you know who was on the call on that great movie. Finn, then it does circle. Well, I mean, vin wasn't on the call yesterday. I know, but he was probably calling it from his house. Big fin watching games at home. And still does the call. On the radio..

"Brady had a ton of Hall of Fame caliber games with the Patriots, right? But he also had those games where he just didn't have his best stuff. But he did just enough in the game. He didn't turn the football over. He made the throws when the throw is presented themselves, and the Patriots won the game was good with good play in all three phases, right? They just outclassed the other team in all three phases. And they still won the game. They have to be able to win those types of games. Mac Jones is not going to throw for 300 plus yards in three TDs every single week. They have to be able to win some of these games or their quarterback in their passing game isn't great. And now is another good sign I thought that they had their C plus stuff on Sunday and they beat a really good chargers team anyways. Yeah, you got to win games like that. That's what we thought would be all year, right? There really is and then obviously max been better than expected. But you have to be, you have to be able to win games like that. And I think they've overall, especially offensively, I think they've played better in losses. But, you know, it was we were worried about how thin the margin for error was going to be. And when the defense place like that, which I think they're capable of on a regular basis, when the defense plays like that that margin for error gets a little wider. Yeah. Macaron for a first down. He also through a bomb to Nelson Aguilar. And so a lot of those narratives that Mac has some new alarm and can't move, right? Those are two, yeah. Those are narrative busting out the door a lot quickly here. I mean, well, to be fair, though, I mean, the three, that was gonna complete Mac buster game both ways 'cause you're right. He's not narrative. He runs for his second first down in two weeks. He has a noodle army. He hits a throw down the field. He's got pinpoint accuracy. He's missing open wide receivers left and right. I mean, it was just an antithesis game for Mac Jones. However, nobody won in the Mac Jones discourse on Sunday. I don't think the pro Mac people want. I don't think the people against that one. So it was a mod game. I think the pro Mac people want because in my as a pro Mac person in my opinion, I thought Charles Davis on the broad grass summed it up perfectly. He said, an ace pitcher and baseball, sometimes you throw a perfect game and sometimes you don't have your best stuff, but you have to gut it out, right? And you have to get through 6 innings. You have to give up the three runs and put your team into a position to win. And that's exactly what Mac Jones did. He got it. I guess, yeah, I should rephrase that not people didn't win. But Mac didn't necessarily do all the things that he didn't do well in the areas of his game that have been hyped up. I would say. It was finding other ways to win which isn't itself a positive. Like you just said, I mean, he adjusted and found a way to win, but the things that we've been hyping up, you know, the accuracy and all of that, it was odd. It wasn't there. But I don't think that'll be a trend. Two more things on the offensive, just to wrap up on Mac Jones. The one thing that I have noticed about him mechanically is his base in his footwork are so important to his accuracy..

"Down, But you've got no reason not to call phone lines are open in the U. S in Canada and no matter where you are, 1 806 368686. I am live. I'm in Southern California and those phone calls are coming up. But first we're joined by an NFL on CBS analyst An NFL network analyst. Amen analyst in front of the program. He is Charles Davis Charles. It's been a minute or two since you and I last spoke. How you doing? How's life for you right now? I'm doing Well, Jim, Um we're all battling the same stuff. Everyone's battling, right? And I certainly hope you and your family are well, and everyone who can hear our voices and see you on TV is still in the same way and Look, I'm still optimistic to down 21 scuzzy bed in 2020, although we have had a little bit of a rocky start 1021, but we'll get right. I do believe that is our country. You know, I agree with everything you just said Charles Davis is joining us. I certainly neo, you know this was your first season with CBS. So let me ask you about that really quickly. What was the transition like for you? And how much fun did you have is a new member of the family? How did blast an absolute blast And I know that the simplest easiest thing that you could say right, especially if you Want to continue your employment with someone new. But this time you could strap me up to the lie detector test. You can hit me with sodium Pentothal had an absolute blast could not have landed in a better place. Better people that I work with better people that I report to And look if you can't work next to an eagle and raise your game and work next Evan Washburn and raise your game. And then something's wrong with you and I left a very good situation standing next to Kevin Burkhardt. So from he to go from there, Tol I am now. Phenomenal first season. I couldn't be happier. So glad to hear it and not at all. Surprised Charles Davis is joining us. All right, Let's talk about some of the matchups. Let's talk about the Buffalo Bills, Charles They have been so explosive offensively we know this that said, How impressed were you with the way the defense showed up against the Ravens? Beyond impressed because Minded evident myself. Did the Bills Colts game? Jonathan Taylor in that cult offensive line. Did a nice job running the football. And in this game, you would have expected a team that's built to run the football. Their whole identity is to run. The football would have more success doing What they normally do against a team that just struggled with it the week before. Didn't turn out that way. I thought Leslie Frazier, their defensive coordinators. Getting some deserve kudos. And those players picking up their game elevating what they're doing and look Him. We know about Jerry Hughes coming off the edge. We've known about that for a long time right burial. Addison has put numbers together in recent years and Caroline off the edge. I thought inside is where things really jumped up for them. Trey Edmunds, the middle linebacker, his game is in print is really increased over last half of the year. But inside Quinton Jefferson, Vernon Butler, and I thought Harrison Phillips, who struggled for most of the year. I think his last two games been two of his better game to the year and that helps slow them down in the running game. Charles Davis is joining us. All right, then, you know, I've been so impressed, but with Josh Allen has done over the course of the year and how far he's come from when he first entered the league. When you watch Josh Alan right now, what sticks out to the most or what does stick out the most? You about him in his play? I think, Jim. For me, it's just the rapid maturity. Not that Josh was Immature as a player, Remember, you know you and I talked it. I think we actually talked the day The stuff broke about his tweets. Remember that way back when they found right before the draft and It's one of those things that look everything in life we all have to own. We also have to have context with it. And the Josh Alan. I do from from my time covering him. You know, that was that was a kid who did something that you would say. Probably shouldn't have done that. Really simple, right? And you look at the context of that. And then look at how his team embraces him. Have you heard about one single thing about that team? Anyone happening? Hesitancy with him? The answers now because of who he is. How he is, is a person how he leads and I just think that maturity and I know that last year we weigh have those those great shots of him that weren't great for him, But in the playoff giving in Houston when they're up, 16 0, and then the lead started to go away. The body language wasn't great, right and the look on his face possible shelter. We see no evidence of that this year and Leslie, I'll just leave it to this chip. How many times have you and I talked about quarterbacks talked about accuracy in college. If there's a question doesn't get better in the NFL. And in three seasons, his accuracy percentage number has gone from what it was, is a rookie. Where he is this year, and that's 16% points. That's unheard of an NFL absolutely unheard of Charles Davis is joining us. You know to that point, Charles speaking. You and I have talked about that. And it's just like this assumption or everybody's accepted. This is fact that if you're not that accurate in college, you're just not gonna be that accurate. The NFL and he is so much more accurate in the NFL that he was in college. So how do you explain that? I think a ton of hard work on his part. For foremost he has. I'm not gonna say we made himself because that's too strong because we didn't take away the armed It was still there. And boy that arm is built for Buffalo is gonna cut through anything. What the footwork is better. The the understanding of where before the ball should go in the anticipation of throws that is increased. I think that Brian table gets a lot of attention for that, and he should because I think the two of them have worked together to retool it. Whoever he's worked with in the off season and now I think it's Jordan Palmer. They've done a fantastic job, but he's put it into into place him and it said the golf point analogy all the time, but it to act. His not his motion and everything that he's done in his work. It's okay on the range but will repeat under pressure. After Josh is.

"Because I start I took a look at the list of the top rushing team this year and green base in the top five. You know, and I'm not sure people think about that with Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams and throwing it around the way that they do. They run it more than what people think. And I think that would be interesting to watch, of course to see how Aaron Donald's ribs holds up because I hope he's 100%. Because I don't care. I don't have a dog in this fight. I just love watching him play. No doubt about that. Charles Davis here with us Since we're talking about the Packers and the Rams. I think the Packers will win this week and I just have so much trust in the way that Rogers is playing right now, and the Rams QB situation is uncertain, but Hey, the Rams air here. We know they have a very good defense. The thing I'm still alarmed by and I look at the second half of the season was different. The first half it was the Seahawks and their offense just how totally different it was with the Seahawks playing the Rams last week. What did you notice from Seattle in the second half of the season, but they went from a juggernaut to a team. Where their offense became a concern. I thought they were a little unsettled on the offensive line. They had some injuries and didn't get the same play. They got early. I think teams adjusted to what they were doing in the passing game to where you saw a lot more of the Twin safeties back deep, which a lot of people associate with cover to write to safety. Deep, two corners rolled up linebackers working underneath, You know, that's a simplistic way of saying because they play in all different ways that would play it with quarters. Where they did. The four defensive backs each take a quarter of the field and kind of play levels that way, but they had people back to cover the past because Russell's cooking Right. You had thought the DK Metcalf you want throw it to to do lock it. You want to find you? You know some tight ends my find their way open. Get Face. That's what they were looking for. I don't know that they adjusted as well as you would have thought. And even if they wanted to run the football, they didn't have the same consistency. As they said, upfront, with the guys blocking and two in the backfield, Chris Carson went through some dings or shout 10. He was trying to work his way back. Carlos Hyde was being introduced into the offense. They have a lot of people, BJ Daniels Did they have consistency? And we saw yesterday. Repeat. Carol let Brian Schottenheimer ago and I don't know that this was just simply You know? Everything. I'm blaming Brian for everything. Think Pete's blaming themselves as well that his philosophy of how the game is played. He didn't transmit it clearly enough or make it evident enough about what he wanted because you're not both know Zack in his time frame in Seattle..

Maryland Panel Tasked With Investigating State's Lynching History

"Government backed commission of its kind is about to start investigating a harrowing part of the state's history. The Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission has set out to document the state's 42 known racial lynchings. The panel delivered an interim report to Maryland Governor Larry Hogan earlier this month. Charles Davis Jr is the commission's vice chairman. He joins us now to share the commission's plans and goals for this project. Welcome. Thank you so much for having me so tell us. Where did the idea to create this commission originally come from? Sure, most historical scholarship concerning racial terror lynching is centered in the deep South. And so you have states such as Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi and the like who get noticed for their history of racial tear. However, it's important for people to understand that lynching took place throughout the United States. I'm in. One of those states that is often overlooked is a state of Maryland. And so we call Maryland the middle ground in many ways, because it represented like most border states, a style that was southern but also had a progressive leaning on. So this oftentimes caused the state to be overlooked in terms of looking at the legacy of racial terror and tell us what are the primary goals of this commission. The commission is tasked with investigating lynchings that took place in the 19th and 20th century in Maryland, and we are centered and focused on salvaging the humanity, first of the victim's arm and then really laying out each case individually and hopefully bring about some semblance of Justice to the family members in the descendants of the deceased victims. Can you talk about a specific case that the commission is investigating? Right now? Sure. Yes, we're looking into the lynching of Matthew Williams, which took place in Salisbury, Maryland, in 1931, and so Matthew Williams was a young labourer who got into a dispute with his employer over discrepancies in his pay Following that his employer was founded. And Williams was actually hospitalized after the employer's son shot him and the lynch mob descended upon the hospital and drug him out of the first floor window. And the lynching commenced. And he was eventually taken to the drug to the courthouse lawn in front of thousands, along with local law enforcement politicians, religious leaders who did nothing. Eventually, as if that wasn't enough. He was eventually burned, and no one was ever held accountable. And no one was ever held accountable. So what does the commission do with a case like this? Today. Your ultimate goal I imagine is trying to figure out exactly what happened to Matthew Williams. Yes, And that is the ultimate goal. And it's important to note that we see the racial terror lynchings of old that took place in Maryland. Directly in relationship to the ongoing racial tear that we're witnessing in the United States. And so that's important to consider when we're looking at this and investigating this today in this fractured America that we're seeing, as relates to race relations on DSO. Yes, The truth is what we're seeking getting to the bottom of it, seeing who indeed was complicity and involved whether it was locals on state government officials because we believed that the descendents are owed this truth. Is the state. I'm in what we hope the citizens of Maryland and decisions of nine states learn from this work that we're undertaking is that truth comes first. And if we have the truth in there could one day possibly be Reconciliation. Charles Davis Jr is the vice chairman of the Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission. And he is an assistant professor of conflict resolution and history at George Mason University. Thank you very much for

AP Source: Chargers' team doctor punctured Taylor's lung

"Adam, Schefter just reported that tyrod Taylor. The reason why he did not get to play this past week in an intern air bear started for the first time against Kansas City chiefs at ended with hitting a fifty eight yard field goals and another fifty eight yard field goal. But a highly contested matchup between the chargers the chiefs it is now being reported that the chargers team doctor accidentally punctured his own quarterback tyrod Taylor's lung just before kick-off. Sunday while trying to administer a painkilling injection to the quarterbacks cracked ribs league and team sources have told ESPN. According to my sources. Adam Schefter says, now, this sounds terrible whenever you give your I read this and like especially the way she afterward it there the chargers team doctor punctured his own quarterbacks lungs, and that sounds absolutely bad and I was kind of mind blown by this believe it or not. We are given a heads up on this yesterday but we're not a big news breaking world I don't want to dive into the news breaking world because there's a bunch of Peron in sharks in. Going ever dive in there. So I asked around to a couple former teammates in friends of mine that have maybe gotten the same procedure how the hell can something like this happens this sounds terrible in the answer I got from everybody who has had this procedure done, which by the way is marketing, which is in the Novacaine. There's another Cain the mark which is. A numbing agent basically that gets shot directly into the area that is injured for instance, in this particular case, the cracked ribs. Now, the reason why it's done. So close to game time is because it only lasts four four and a half hours so they can't get it done in the morning because the numbness wear off, they can't get it done the night before because. Off they have to do it right before the game, which is why it was surprised to everybody that air bear was starting over tyrod Taylor, including Air Bear, and I would assume the entire chargers offense. Now, what happens though just like whenever you're in surgery now granted this happened to the people I talked to harm percents short happened to tyrod Taylor but just like whenever you go in for surgery for anything, they tell you the possible side effects this could. Potentially happen because surgery this could potentially happen. It's like basically this small print at the bottom of contracts like, Hey, this is all the good looking come from this but also this can happen every person that I talked to got a similar treatment as this said that they were told by the doctor that there was a chance that along could get punctured in the process because when you're giving a shot into the ribs, the long obviously is right there one. A. Hundred percent sure of tyrod Taylor. Was told that before we got the shock. I'm just telling you what I was told by people who got very the exact same situation here free. The bruised ribs are cracked ribs allegedly this is a much more common practice than even I knew about I've probably seen guys potentially get this shop before and didn't even know this was happening because I had nothing to do with me but I guess this is a pretty Common practice whenever you have a crab or bruise rib because it works like a charm I was told and I was also told that they shoot it a little bit above wherever the crack or the bruises in. Let's just settling in for four and a half five hours. You feel amazing. It's that next day you see more that night when it wears off that you feel absolutely terrible thus why I am incredibly happy that I played a position where no motherfuckers. where I could potentially need that. So that is what happened. We obviously tease piece for the punctured lung and the cracked ribs for tyrod. Taylor but from my knowledge of my research calling people that got a similar thing, they said that they were told that was a possible outcome. It's like point one percent that it could happen. But in surgery just like anything in the medical field, there is obviously a chance at something bad to happen it happened tyrod Taylor. I'm not giving an excuse for the doctor do your fucking job right? Especially whenever the people that told me, they said it's like a ninety nine. percent chance it goes well and nothing happens. So if you get that one percent and it's a failure, obviously the doctor did not do here and I would assume would have to answer for that. But that is what I've been told about this entire process. That is why it was such a shock to everybody including air bear who said he was surprised in ancient said, let's go and do this. So I think that is why everything happened the way it is I've been told I'm not a doctor they are not doctors but a punctured lung on punctures itself somehow I don't know that means I guess. Shout out to the human body for puncturing itself. He could play week to week is really could potentially play next week. What do you say day breaking news just from in report he's not GonNa play this week harbored is going to start. Okay. So here we go. There's big news not playing this week. So as long isn't completely on punctured and also. I think that is why because the way one down in him losing the starting job was actually the chargers fault that is why Anthony Lynn came out and said unless. tyrod is he's still are started because I would assume Anthony Len former player was like we gotta fuck this guy here. So whenever he was asked about who's the starter even after incredible debut by Air Bear in the game that they had against the Super Bowl Champs Anthony Lynn probably was. I mean, we couldn't say it obviously because worn one hundred percent. Sure because at the time they're probably still reviewing and Anthony Lane. Prada. Didn't get a chance to do a full checkup on house whatever the case maybe didn't and he didn't want to be like. tyrod Taylor's by the way. We're the reason he's out and he is we made this disease like they. Couldn't say that. So that's why I think I was confused by the way insulin handled the question I think a lot of people are potentially confused but now we know air bear starting this weekend tyrod Taylor not only has cracked ribs but also punctured lung hopefully that unpunctual quickly we're not doctors they have no idea but it is nice to know that this type of thing does happen has happened in the past we probably. Haven't heard about it for whatever reason, and this is something that happens on a regular basis with success. So it's not like they were going above and beyond to make him put him on the field. This is something that has happened in the past
