"This weekend about people being forced into the public eye after the loss of a loved one. The discussion took place at the Martin Luther King Jr. library in D.C. and featured two people familiar with the topic after losing their fathers. Emerald Gardner's father died after being put in a chokehold by police in New York City in 2014. In her new book, she talks about life since losing her father at 22 and the strength she's found talking to other survivors of similar situations. Hearing it from someone who actually experienced and know what I go through, it's a different, it just hits different. At the D.C. library bearing his father's name, Martin Luther King the third talks about losing his father at ten, and says one thing that helps families dealing with tragedy today is more of an understanding of mental health. You know, when I was ten years old and my dad was killed, I don't remember getting counselor. In northwest, Mike Morello, WTO P news. A new budget for D.C. public schools can increase funding for each student by as much as $500. However, the mayor's plan is facing harsh criticism from D.C. council. Chairman Phil mendelson says, this proposed budget cuts some schools funds and therefore violates a council law passed last year. The law bars the mayor or the school Chancellor Lewis fairy from decreasing classroom budgets. It just bogs my mind that it's a Chancellor after saying he believes in stability and he believes in equity and he comes out with a budget to cut over 60 schools. A third of the schools being cut are east of the river. That means low income schools. Both the mayor and the Chancellor denied trying to break this law, but mendels says they didn't knowingly. The mayor or the Chancellor now say, well, we didn't have time to implement this. They've known about this bill for months. Chairman is now asking the mayor to revise this budget before she brings it to the council for approval. Luke Garrett, WTO news. "Left devastated in Charles County this weekend after a father and daughter drowned, met a bank yard pool party on Jefferson Lane and Waldorf. Charles County Sheriff's office says it all started when a seven year old girl fell into the pool and her father jumped in to save her. But he was unable to swim. A 17 year old boy also left in but was unable to help the little girl or her dad E. M s workers rescued all three from the bottom of the pool and performed CPR. They were taken to the hospital where the father and daughter died. Luke Luke hurt. W T O P. NEWS, Charles County Sheriff's Office says the 17 year old boy is in critical condition. It's 12 11 on w T. O. P after Democrats Randa Covert rescue package through along party lines, they could still work together with Republicans on an infrastructure bill candy. The past result. Republican senators Shelley Moore Capito, West Virginia spoke to President Biden and both expressed a willingness to negotiate. Ken Walsh, White House and political analyst for U. S. News and World Report joined our John Aaron today to discuss whether Not buying his plan can gain bipartisan support in Congress. We have a long way to go, but I think what's happening here is that we're getting into with so many people were hoping would happen, which is sort of a normal legislative experience for everybody, rather than the tooling and throwing and the extreme rhetoric and so on that we had under the Trump administration, and this is a time consuming process. And it can get kind of boring for a lot of people. But basically there are signs that what's going to happen here is that this massive $2.3 trillion infrastructure plan of President Biden, whose many, many social programs will be broken up into pieces and voted on individually. Biden doesn't want that to happen, but that I think it's part of his initial deal making. Proposal, in other words, to come instead of the high end of what he wants, and then negotiate the rest of it, And I think that's what's happening. How do Republicans feel about that piecemeal process, especially considering the bad feelings they have after the rescue bill was done without their support? Exactly Well, there's still a lot of feeling to really obstruct this process along. A lot of Republicans do not want to give President Biden a victory. But I do think that there's enough in the whole notion of infrastructure and helping people with healthcare and with child care with education. So on that, I think the piecemeal approach does have some positive prospects here, So I think that that's really where it's going to go. A lot of people will be disappointed. President Biden is being pulled in many, many different directions Now. Bye. Liberals in his own party by centrists, Republicans, unions, corporations and so on. But that's again part of our normal process. That's what legislation involves, and I think that's where we are now, so it's not going to look like it seems now for for anybody. As far as the endgame on the end result, But I do think there will be an end result on infrastructure and some of these other programs.
