Used car stellar CarMax recently sent chills through the industry with this report of falling vehicle sales and its warning that buyers face affordability challenges. The resale market can indicate where demand for new cars is heading, but it could be a while before carmaker has reached that off ramp. The one good thing about new vehicle interest rates is that a lot of times there is some sort of subsidy from automakers in the form of an incentive. Jessica Caldwell of Edmonds says carmakers could be more generous with those incentives like the 0% for 60 months or 72 months. That was once very common is pretty much unheard of these days and Michelle krebs of Cox automotive says carmakers have other unused tools in their affordability toolbox. They could stop charging over list price, that premium could go away. Carmakers just haven't had to. And for many months, we're trying to get buyers to tap the brakes because they could not produce enough vehicles to meet demand. From the Bloomberg newsroom, I'm Tracy John key on WTO. "Last week, so playing it on behalf of the anniversary of his birth. But yeah, Roy Rogers put it out in 1996 and I know nothing else about Roy Rogers other than I loved the way he did build for comfort. All right, now Wesley just called and I was I was doing a little looking here. And there's a website, two chairs, no waiting that's TWO chairs, no waiting dot com. And on episode three 70, and this is on YouTube as well. Earl Hagen and the music of mayberry. So you might get some information on that. He, Earl is the guy who created the background music in every episode, including the one that Wesley likes. And unfortunately, I'm almost positive that that's not a song. That was what he'd do for each episode, and they'd be little snippets. And I don't know that there is any recording of all the all the pieces. But there's a number of people who've written who like, you know, like the little pieces that are played during sad or melancholic, scenes, or what have you. And so that's what that is. And you may be able to find something that will have that clip, but I don't think you're going to find a whole song because I am 99.9% sure it does not exist. But check out two chairs, no waiting. And you can go to just YouTube and check out episode three 70 Earl Hagen and the music of mayberry. And I haven't listened to the whole thing, of course, because I'm talking to you, but I just came across it, and that might be something that will be of interest. All right, so Gary and Austin, what's up? Well, hey, rally, how you doing? All right, how about yourself? Hanging in. I was talking about Christmas stations and I remember this happened. I don't know. Maybe 15 years ago, maybe I was at a sandwich shop a national one. I believe these to show $5 foot long is the one I would add. They always have radios on them that store. And I was waiting to pay for my sandwiches. The woman who, I guess she was a manager of the store and she just started, she said, well, I changed the station because I didn't want to hear that Christmas music. And she put an expletive in there. That's interesting. I don't know, anybody who likes it, but I know, I mean, I've known I read about how successful those stations are to do it, but I'm trying to find people with listen. Well, so am I, these are the pod people, you know, these are people in all the mcmansions where we've never actually seen them. I think so, that must be it. Yeah. And I will say I'm happy that I have not heard grandma got run over by a rain deer to, oh, since the early 2000s, I've been able to avoid it. I was in a vehicle where they were listening to it, but it was the end and you can't count that one, but when radio listening, it's one that I don't know if they test this stuff. I tend to doubt it or they would have stopped playing gala PB a while ago. You know, I can't imagine that that's high on anybody's list. So I have no earthly idea, but I know that other than the fact that the ratings reflect it, we then have to get into the spiritual discussion about whether these are placeholders or real people with souls. I don't know. Yeah, I mean, if they put in a white Christmas by the drifters or was it Charles the Charles Brown song was Merry Christmas darling? If it does, and there maybe I'd be a little happy. Well, yeah, but they have to take out that Phil Spector album. They just have to. We've heard it all enough. We're done. We don't need to hear it. Never. Ever. You know, he didn't really sit when he recorded it in 63 because of Kennedy's death while he would have done us all a favor. If he never released it, I agree with that, but it was so cool to hear the history of bedlam. And I was fascinating. Oh yeah. I'm depending on Scotty to find out about that record with the calls. But yeah, I went online. And of course, the problem with a lot of these venues and even a lot of the early television shows that had any African American dancers at all is no one could afford two inch real to real video tape. So there's no preservation of it. Right. And unfortunately you'll read about it, but you won't see it. And that sort of thing. I've heard you talk about the one in Philly. Oh yeah, that was so good. It's really interesting to see tapes of that. Yeah, Mitch Thomas is just great. Promise mister Thomas moretta diller was this theme song. And I'm telling you what, these kids, now you know where the bandstand dancers thought they got it from, but they just paled by comparison. Yeah, yeah. And I talked to somebody else who watched that show. Years ago and they were telling me the same thing. Oh, yeah. Yeah. It was the real deal. And there were several like that in local shows and markets around the country. There was something a Little Rock for a while. And all that. And none of them have survived because the only possibility other than two inch real to real videotape, which was frightfully expensive would be kinescopes, a, they didn't preserve well and B, they weren't cheap either. Yeah, we had one in Dallas that for a few years back in the 60s. Oh, yeah. And you know, why? It's because WAC wasn't in color. You had the beat. Yeah. And I had something else. Something else, oh, the guy just died recently. He went on to morning Ron Chapman at KBI. Yeah, he was on something else. But yeah, that beat that Hoss Allen did that they did from FAA studios because LAC wasn't in color, was just a great little show. But that they've got those that those were preserved. But that's good. Yeah, but no real dancers that were watching the format. But yeah. So much that stuff had lost and so radio. I mean, it's too bad a lack of soul radio air checks. Well, and again, same deal is that until cassettes came out. You know, when those norelco units came out in 64 and you could buy them cheaply and put the microphone on the radio, I shudder at the thought, but it was possible. But before that, you had to have a real recorder. And most yeah, yeah, yeah. Most of the people who would have taped that did not have them. So there's scant little soul history, and actually, you know, their scant little top 40 history, if you go before 64, there is there isn't much. And my favorite, because I'm a fossil, where the MOR morning men. I loved these guys. Don Sherwood or Bob Crane or, you know, my favorite at W CFL. Who was just the best sabro spinola of trying to think of his name right now, and that's terrible. It's a dance Sorkin.

"Please say yes to you. And radio. James, and of course those are the cadillacs. Yeah, my girlfriend, that's two words, by the way, girl, and friend on the label, if you're trying to look it up, and what a wonderful song it was. And of course, that too on Josie. 1957, and I got all western Navarro got co writer on that too. I mentioned that she got, she got writer's credit, a Gloria, and that's true, but the reality is that it was Leon Renee who wrote Gloria and I've never been entirely certain why there was any action on that. You remember Leon Rene, he wrote when the swallows come back to have astronaut. And all sorts of other wonderful things too, and had exclusive a record label. And in fact, the very first release of Gloria was 1946 on exclusive. And it was a pop song. I think buddy baker was a musical director with bob Hayward doing the vocal and it had violins and it did nothing, died. And Leon Rene was obviously not going to let that go. And so what they did was they created a promotion in 1946. He got together with a jock from KFW to be in Los Angeles. This is much pre rock and roll. Again, 46. And sponsored a contest to search for a girl who typified Gloria and it was heavily public relation gimmicky. And no one ever heard about the winner, at least not that not that I know. And meantime, Johnny Moore's three blazers released on exclusive, again. And then Charles Brown. Yeah, released it, which some say is the definitive version of the Leon Rene treatment of it. The mills brothers did it, and ray Anthony did it. And on buddy Clark, you remember buddy Clark, backed by the modern eras, I'll have you know. And Tommy Dorsey and ray Anthony's version actually got a lot of airplane. And the mills brothers had a hit with it. Well, in 54, here come the cadillacs. And here comes ester Navarro, who initially on the release, there's no writer's credit at all, because I guess she wasn't that bold at that point. She kind of dumbed it down and made sure after a while that she became the writer. And it was a Cadillac's first release on jubilee. And their version, though, has become the de facto standard for everybody who sung it after of it. In fact, it's probably true that all the doo wop groups that sang it never heard any of the earlier versions with the correct lyrics from the 40s, but they certainly heard the cadillacs and, of course, in 1959, it was on the crazy cadillacs LP. All right, so enough of that history. Let's talk to Scotty in east Chicago who requested it. Thanks, Scotty. Yeah, router. That was the sound of every new web group got their start on. Yes. Absolutely. And I bet you none of them knew that it was the song from 1946. No, we sure did. We just started with Esther Navarro some. Yeah. Grab it. You should say she written speedo. That was the one to make the money. I did. She did she got the writer's credit, and she did. I missed her. Well, he did. But he's not credited. Esther. Well, you know, everybody was doing that back in the day. Of course they were. I don't know. I wanted to ask you, how old was Adam weave that when he died? I think he was like 78, 79. No, well, I know he was, he was born in the third. I don't know what he was in his 80s. I thought he was about 84, so I remember him. I think he was born in 35, and I guess that would make you in your 80s now. I'm getting older than I realized. So I think he was born. And I thought he was lower than me. I wasn't sure. Well, he would be because he was born in 35. So I guess. I guess that would make him, oh my God, 87. Yeah, now you're talking more like it. Oh no, that's not even possible, is it? It just doesn't care. You take your chip that they're policemen. They say he probably going to be pale ass on the waist down. And he better get. He just had a birthday. He just turned 32. Yesterday, one day this week. And he was on the forest 5 or 6 years. Oh, sad. But he's trying to break up the fight between he should have just went to sad and called back up. But he was off duty, you know, he wasn't on duty. No, and unfortunately, as soon as anyone knew he was a cop, I agree with detective chuck that both sides. Yeah, somebody, somebody shot him, you know, came out the car and shot them all in the back and all. That's so sad. And yeah, and that young kid at the highland park parade is going to be paralyzed for like, he's getting worse if they say. It's just horrible what's going on. It is. Oh, I want to ask you one thing. Okay, you take the check what you're about to balance Valentine's. The valentinos, not the valleys, okay. Right? Yes, and Cecil and everybody else. Who sees a marriage? I know Mary Sam Cooke's wife. Mary wells. I couldn't think of anything. You know what you're about to call X two. They were one of the best dancing groups you ever want to see. Absolutely. They were choreographed. Yes. 'cause he's still living, he dad, didn't he? Oh God, Bobby, I'm trying to, I think that he does. I know, you know, he looked at me when he got Barbara. Sam cliff's wife. Exactly. I think he died in 2014, and he was in tarzana in California in the valley. He was talented, but he was kind of cocky, cute. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, he would step on his chef. He thought he was he thought he was Jackie Wilson or somebody, you know. He thought he was answering what he wasn't. Yeah, he believed it so much. He was a terrible kid top player now. Yeah, and you know he had hitch into the 80s. Right, he did that that crossing a 110th street. Right. And if you think about it, I mean, he did a lot of it. Yes, I agree. Yes, do we have to get about you? And you name it. He acquired a few. Yeah, like I said, if you think you're lonely now, I was like that. "Yeah and if it sounds vaguely familiar and you're thinking Bobby Marshawn is in there somewhere you'd absolutely be right on that Darnell's version was a straight version of all get along somehow like I say had been around forever But the spoken interlude was in there Yeah And I'll have to pull that out of the record sometimes you can hear the whole thing but it's much like much like what Bobby marchand did yeah And just classic stuff So 8 8 8 7 6 5 5 9 three Maybe tomorrow night after the game I'll pull out the soliloquies from both of that because they are marvelous but that was that was Larry Darnell who I think Bobby marchand of course notorious cross dresser There was no doubt but I think that Larry Darnell was as well And while the dewdrop in New Orleans which had been around from the 30s through the early 70s had been known for its flamboyant hosts and Patsy by Dahlia was the big one There were cross dressers And in fact it was Patsy who organized the annual New Orleans gay ball on Halloween which went on forever But apart from that side of the dewdrop inn which was flamboyant of nothing else the talent there was unbelievable Everybody from Joe hunter to Amos milburn and gatemouth Brown and Dave Bartholomew And Tommy ridgley jam it up Earl king or U piano Smith Allen toussaint You name it This was the early denizens in the 40s of the dewdrop in The groove room that used to call it And then later Charles Brown and James Brown and Ray Charles and Sam Cooke and Otis Redding and Solomon of course Little Richard you can bet that club was just made for him In fact a Little Richard wrote dewdrop in about the venue Well some of it anyway But that's the deal with Larry Darnell and I promise later I will pull out that soliloquy so we can hear it tomorrow night But if there's something else on your mind we absolutely can talk about it God knows although I'll prattle on Now of course the threat comes I have the tabloids That's right slime from the checkout line And they're about what you would expect them to be this week But you know we try to make the show a safe haven from what's going on in the world at large that will raise your blood pressure and otherwise make sick And it's one of those things where oh I could do a monologue for four hours about some of that but we're going to pass that up entirely and just hopefully have a good time So let's grab a couple of this week's tabloids Of course you knew it was going to be Johnny beats lying amber And indeed And while I guess that that would be considered good news all the way around The side of it that isn't brought up is she didn't bring the suit against him He brought the suit against her So that's you know I've mixed thoughts on that whole thing and obviously she's been you know he's been awarded over $10 million of her is the problem is that she doesn't have $10 million So we'll see where that will go Of course there's going to be oh I know what I was going to talk about speaking of lawsuits What did I do with it It's just too good to be true In terms of you just can't believe it And that is the lawsuit of the woman who is who filed with Geico because she got an STD in a car and the car was insured by Geico By so let me find that details because I read this last night and by the way when I did it's of course always interesting to see what the deal is But the bottom line is that apparently this woman canoed with this car owner and ensured car owner And came up with HPV human papillomavirus and apparently she wrote to Geico and this happened by the way in 2017 And Geico was the insurer So she wrote to Geico pretty much a $1 million in Geico said no this is not the approved use of the car and therefore you get nothing Well okay but what happened then was that the woman went into a apparently arbitration with the guy and the arbitration came out in her favor gave her $5.2 million to fairly and justly compensator And so she went to the woman the woman with the HPV went to a circuit court to enforce the arbitration ruling and they did Well Geico then appealed it And so where we are now is the appeal And apart from whether or not this was an acceptable use of the car is that Geico was not notified of the arbitration And so the Missouri court of appeal says doesn't matter You have plenty of time to act on your own behalf and so as I say they're saying no we didn't She submitted the claim over a year ago And she sent a copy of the lawsuit She was about to file against the insured man She offered to settle the claim for a $1 million And the Geico pretty much said no it's not an approved use of the use of the car So at that point that's when she went into arbitration And so now the question is more about whether Geico had the right to defend themselves then it is even the use of the car And her lawyers are saying he was insured against his personal liability arising from his negligence and actions involving the automobile Well so this is going to go to a jury trial in Kansas City in October And there's been over a hundred docket entries on this So part of this will not be about STDs or what you do in cars but it will partly be to be Geico was saying we were not notified of the arbitration and the courts so far saying yes or what So that's what's going on But nonetheless $5.2 million right Yeah if this holds can you even imagine all right so we'll get there lord knows but we got Scotty again in the east Chicago so you heard some Larry Darnell Granny James thank you very much Hey that guy had a big band sounds He had a nice Sadly, he died of aids in the early 90s, so sad. I'm sorry to bring everybody down. I know doing it as a comedy podcast, but holy shit, but God rest his soul, but he really helped me out. He really did Charles Brown. Charles Brown Charlie Brown, and you used the tools that he taught you. No, no. Sorry, Danny? Sorry. No, no. That was Jenny. I was shedding. You used the tools. He taught you to this day. I was just the question I was going to ask, though, is it's really hard, like no kid likes the way they look at 11, you know, or it's a little kid. And I've been sensitive to this just being on TV shows with kid actors all the time. And I can't imagine what that must be like. When if you're not feeling great about how you look and you're like on a big screen, because even like, I don't care who you are. It's very if your kids are going to look and go like, yeah, I look great there. So I don't know many adults don't feel that great about that. That's true. Well, want to know what's funny is, I mean, I don't have to tell you guys, but on Twitter, I was in a TV show after stand by me. I just graduated college and I did a TV show called sliders. Sci-fi show. I remember it. I remember I watched the streets. So they had a sliders pilot rewatch party in the summer, whatever in the last year. And so, you know, I got the pilot and everyone was like, okay, at 7 p.m., we're gonna hit play, and we did it, and I watched it. And I had to tell you, I was mortified at how bad my acting was at the age of 21, just, you know, I was playing hold on to something. I was playing a physicist in that show. A physicist. And look, you've got to remember, this was like 95, like I'm 21, you know, you're still that show well. Yeah, I do, too. But I have to say looking back, I would have played the physicist so differently than how I played it, like I just was wearing like a gap like shirt and like I, for some reason, I put my collar up in one scene and I was like, what am I doing? Physicists would never, like if you think of like Stephen Hawking, would he ever like clinch his, like, clench his cheekbones? Well, he was like shouldn't say that about Steve. Well, I mean, I'm just trying to come up with the physical. Did he ever play beach volleyball? No. I don't know. I guess Elon Musk is a bad virgin. More like Timothee shyamali, you know what I mean? I don't know. It was almost like I was like a character from saved by the bell playing a physicist. I was very embarrassed about my actions. Well, you had to be like the attractive physicist. I don't know. But getting back to like being embarrassed, I was more embarrassed..

Onto what ca- russell could do rights because even used cars is kind of casting him as version of the disney. Troch right if he's a manic. You know charmer but who's a schyster and kind of dog right. He's got a cute face for tv but he's not to be trusted and carpenter was sort of like people. Don't realize how fucking good kurt russell is. Worked with this guy. He did this major. What if new york was a big prison concept to open your movie with like minute one. He's like All of manhattan is a prison island. It's the best is truly the best those graphics all the graphics in this are so great. You guys the wire frame thing right they. Well i'd i'd certainly maybe maybe getting like the computer view of the city as the plane is going. I took ben. And i went to go see this drive in a couple of months ago. We did a robocop escape from new york. Double which was a real ben. Griff night yeah. It was refund but in robocop does a very similar trick but when they are flying the plane over the buildings he could not afford. This could be as dan to as expensive as like star. Trek has one shot of a hand. That cost like a million dollars probably that they had the license from capitol So it is just like a godzilla sized model of city that was painted jet black and then they put green reflective tape over it and it's completely analog looked so it looks so fucking cool. Robocup does the same thing with robocop has thermal vision when the the guy who lost the mayoral election is like holding. Everyone hostage where they're wearing bodysuits. That just have thermal imaging painted on them now. We should mention. Who was the photographer in charge of photography for the special effects and matt and stuff Would jimmy jimmy say. The Ben Shapiro Show

"Of new jersey studies and then they're pulling black people over then. Finally there is a study and the study was put out only about almost a decade later. And what the study found is that a very high percentage of the speeders were black. Ray turns out that that black drivers were just driving faster. As a general rule the white drivers were according to this particular study. Right it was it was an actual justice department study in conjunction with the state offices of new jersey and what they found was leaked to the new york times. What they found is that while black drivers were making about sixteen percents of the drivers on the new jersey turnpike twenty. Five percents of the speeders in the sixty five mph zone were profiling complaints. Were the most common were black red black drivers sped about twice as much as drivers and sped it reckless levels even more in fact according to that particular justice department study blacks where she stopped less than their speeding behavior would predict there about twenty three percents of those stop so all this is to not make any linkage between genetic skin color and how fast you drive but if the question is which groups of people are driving the fastest american life and how does that link to traffic stops. You might think that that might be like a consideration in the washington post piece. No they won't even going to consider it in fat and especially they weren't going to consider it because if that were in fact the problem if the problem were a disproportionate number of people are speeding in a particular area. Therefore higher number people are dying in that particular area. More people are driving recklessly in this particular therefore people are dying the answer to that right the very easy policy answer to that is okay. She set up a speed trap. Right you get a bunch of cops. Put them in the area and signed a lot of traffic tickets because you create an incentive structure where it makes no sense to speed right that that is the that is the perfect obvious policy solution. The washington post does not want that policy solution so they go out of their way to find alternative explanations that are far less explained like they literally do not even posit the possibility that people are speeding at higher rates on a coral and of level with regard to race either. They're saying that you can measure traffic deaths as it on the basis of race. We can't measure traffic behavior on the basis of race. Which seems like you're ignoring. Hannibal rather large factory. Not that sort of like the move that that people in the media are constantly making where they look big techno like well. They're just not enough engineers. Who are in big tech or black right but how many qualified applicants are coming from black community for qualified engineers to be in big tech and they just ignore that they won't even put that in the story even though that is vast majority of the explanation rate is not. The big tech is going around like well. I have an equally qualified black person and white person. I'm picking the white person. No one in big tech is doing that. They're doing precisely the opposite. So here's how the washington post tries to explain this discrepancy a new analysis of deaths on. Us roads found the black people were killed in traffic. Crashes at a rate almost twenty five percent and white people in recent years a disparity that appears to have worsened during the coronavirus pandemic last year was especially grim on the roads. The number of miles driven decreased as many people stayed home yet. Traffic deaths rose seven percent. According to the national highway traffic safety administration in large part because of people driving faster and empty highways. Okay so right off the bat. They're acknowledging that when people drive faster you end up with more people dead right. So they're not. This is true across abroad population but we cannot even measure the traffic behavior differential between groups when trying to explain tragic death differential between groups because to do so would imply a solution they don't want and we're also implied that racism isn't the problem is you don't have to tear down the entire system. The number of people killed according to the washington post climbed twenty three percent. The reason for the spike in black dots is not noted in the report but experts say The experts experts say just as the virus itself spread more readily through communities of color. The increase was probably a result of existing inequities being compounded or possibly it was result of the the differential and behavior being compounded because if you have more people who are speeding on the roads during this time generally you're going to end up with more people who speed as a percentage of that being killed researchers have previously concluded. The black communities tend to be crisscrossed by more dangerous roads during the pandemic people of color were more likely to be employed essential. Jobs that the option to stay home people were driving faster. Mid lower traffic levels meant crashes. Were more likely to be deadly. Okay so the basic premise here is that the roads are racist right the roads because they're in poor communities and because these are bigger roads with your trees people tend to be more on those rows that this is the real rationale so presumably. We should have traffic bottlenecks in these areas. Which i'm not sure. How many other problems having to do with the economy having to transport if you're living in in a poor area with your businesses you need to get to work actually. Don't want your lanes on the roads but put all that aside the basic notion that this has to do with race as opposed to with class is another con- found it turns out the poorer areas very often are criss crossed with more dangerous roads. I mean those poor areas generally exist around for example highways because people who are richard. Don't wanna live next to highways and people who are richer. Don't wanna live next to big rose with lots of traffic. Which is why people are richard. Tend to move out to the suburbs for example. The nhtsa estimated that thirty eight thousand six hundred eighty people were killed in crashes nationwide last year said seven thousand four hundred ninety. Four of them were black. A new study released tuesday by the governors highway. Safety association highlights the disparities. It analyzed data from twenty fifteen to twenty nineteen right to not including the pandemic and found in different types of traffic crashes. Lack people were killed at rates higher than white people. Black pedestrians killed at a rate twice as high. And so who is who is driving. Cars would be relevant and what levels of of speed were they attaining while they were driving the cars and by the way. What was the behavior of the right. These are all relevant factors to whether people are being killed in traffic accidents or not and none of these factors are taken into account in the washington. Post none charles brown professor at rutgers university school of planning and public policy so the figures leave at transportation officials facing a simple question quote. We've.
