"There's not a lot of ideological elements to that job that really sort of third Charles ahead of a McGrath in some parts of the state. I don't know if that's the best bit formal. For example, I would ask, you know what I would talk to him again. Who do you want to run the Parks Department right like that. That's the main thing you got to think about, right? Who you want to in public works? Not what your views on abortion reparations climate change. That could be an element of it. You can Where we have influence on that The mayor's office is certainly not unimportant office in the state in the national level, either, But I don't think Charles Booker is interested in that Now he could be he could be, But I think his political profile certainly fits more for maybe a run against Rand Paul in 2022 that if Rand Paul lives up to his pledge not running for Ah, planetariums he signed a few years ago. Maybe he wants to run. Maybe Charles Booker wants to run for Congress has the pick of the litter at this point. Maybe doesn't do any of that, right? I mean, he could. You know, I caught lightning in this one particular election, but maybe I don't want to do this ever again. But there certainly is. Once you get that political stock people off to ask you. What are you going to do with him? You know, I know that there have been political insiders have told me they have mentioned his name to Chuck Schumer to Dick Durbin, Senator Illinois. In the center out of Ohio, Sherrod Brown and trying to create a meeting of some sort between them to give him that national sport that he did not have in this race. But it's all of the child's at this point, and I'd be interested to see what he's gonna do next. Yeah, Sumer went into early. He just threw his hey, threw his support into early before he saw what else was available. We're going to take a break filled and come back talking to Philip Bailey of The Courier Journal in USA Today. To talk about race, which is the engine that driving a lot of the of the stories in America. And, of course here in Louisville this weekend. That's next here on news radio, a 40 W Yes, well, there's a lot of confusion when it comes to the reliability of tests for the Corona virus antibodies. But Michael Doherty of any lab tests now in Stirling says the nautical tests are the same. Really. There's two main and about it I G n I. G antibodies developed most patients within 7 to 10 days after symptoms began. And I G. M, which is the first anybody produced when the immune system kicks in their drawing from your arm. That's that's a good sign If they're doing finger sticks, really look at that crosswise because that's where there's instability issues and then you want to know are they doing G for G M antibodies, and some labs will say, Hey, we're running an anybody test, but which antibodies So you have to educate yourself and understand. There are absolutely reliable antibody tests right now for Cove it This is sneezy. This isn't like, oh, all antibodies with saying all tests of the same. They absolutely are not. "To me sort of like static and just sort of like a slow deterioration with trump, but who knows I would say in two or three months. When the Elliott's come down, they may have like. They may have some new information on Burris MMA that they were able to get satellites. intercepts but the big story for me are a the abject failure. Of Our. Society I mean it's this. Is Society wide to deal with this pandemic? Then the other one that is I think far more hopeful, but also interesting, and I know you're between a lot about this. is. The. The seemingly complete lack of awareness that the. I mean put aside the Republicans for a moment that the establishment Democrats have for what's happening in their own party. Yeah, absolutely, yeah, and let's start with that because over the past couple of weeks. we had a major upset. I mean I think like the? The Elliott Angle. Thing cannot be overstated because you know Crowley you could you could, and they certainly tried to write it off as like he had. No idea was coming, and he got very cocky, and of course he was overconfident. Because House this, you know whatever. Twenty eight year old. Woman, who was a bartender going to knock him off and he just got. You know flat-footed. But Angle. Should have been on notice right, but they didn't buy. They did not buy it. And then we also saw this stuff about like just as Democrats, they can't do anything and and and you know they're not the they're in like in year three or four of what they're doing, essentially and to get bowman in. There to get as close as they did with Charles Booker. Yeah I mean the these are big deals. It seems to me now Hickenlooper. I feel like the progressive sort of. Didn't move quick enough on Romanoff. Great in. Maybe you know in some respects like you know. If Romanov had gotten the attention that booker had hooker frankly is more interesting candidate to me. Romanoff is good. Romanov. Probably has a better chance. Whoever wins that primary in Colorado actually being senator exactly and so you know. The, you know the the progressive movement has to start start to sort of like. Be Able to make those calculations right like you get romanoff elected. He's going to be senator. Maybe not booker, but booker is more exciting. So how do you do that, but just talk a little bit about your your sense of but that whole dynamic. I think. We'll right the sort of triumphalism. Democratic leaders like that justice. Democrats will like we, you know. We keep beating them over and over again, and of course that will continue forever I mean I don't know why they thought that would continue for our but now I think what we're. You know what we're seeing some sort of very obvious things happening in which you're talking about. About which is like coordination and candidate selection are very difficult. Those are the two hardest things to do. Democrats I mean be where we use. These terms by think loosely people mostly. We're talking about when you say. Establishment Democrats their their argument for themselves at that's the thing that they're good at and I think their track record on that abysmal. And you know that sort of I think that's actually one of the main intra-party debates doesn't get aired in those terms often enough. Is that the argument for the D? Triple seat types in the SEC types that we've been doing this long time. We know how how to identify the candidates. We know which raises to focus on, and then you know they they're actual track. Record of getting people elected is okay, and then their track record once in office is. Not that impressive I think the book race was incredibly interesting to because I, do think. That's one where he came very close, and that he might have done it if it weren't for the early voting and that was just an example of like. People were got exposed to this other option. Because the way that the DNC SEC does it when they swoop in and anoint candidate is like they don't want you to consider another option. That's unrealistic, but people were told what you actually have a choice and they seized it, and so I think that's that's sort of the the thing that will be. Crucial going forward is like figuring out when and where to to coordinate and figuring out when to actually get involved in these races. Do from the perspective of progressives because I, you know. I can understand the Chuck Schumer. I mean look I think you and I think are in some agreement here. we think. CHUCK SCHUMER IS DIM. Sum respect, yeah, and I. You know my senses. He went in there and it was just about money. Essentially he thought that he thought that Amy McGrath a female that you know could get money and there. I can't tell and maybe these are mutually exclusive I can't tell if they just don't understand what's happening in terms of what's going on in the country like the idea that aiming McGrath can beat Mitch McConnell is. Well you know. I hope she does grow, but but it's very hard to imagine that she can like the idea that like you see the. Hackney, but she's just going up there and being like A. I don't know she's saying that she's going to get along with trump more than Mitch McConnell. Like where is the like? Nobody believes that right like you know like you know it's not like. It's not like she's Cunanan, which was maybe then she can. Actually yeah but I. Don't know that you know. Democrats should be promoting Cunanan person right there. Just no path for her ripe and. The and to the extent that there is, it would be short live.

Dot. com slash go. We're destroying. Gather Jasper go. All right well, let's start off with an update to the primary for the Senate seat in Kentucky so Progressive Charles. Booker unfortunately has lost to the establishment candidate. Amy. McGrath in the Democratic primary for. Kentucky Senate seat now. This is to of course determine who will run against the incumbent Republican. Mitch McConnell who of course, also the Senate. Majority Leader McGrath did raise a lot more money than cory booker, but just keep in mind that booker was a I'm sorry, Charles Booker She raised a lot more money than Charles Booker did but I do want to be clear that he closed a pretty giant gap between them in this race and McGrath won narrowly so based on the last numbers that I saw reported by the New York Times McGrath won by forty five point four percent of the vote to Charles Booker's forty two point seven percent of the vote. So that's just a couple of points, there, guys. We almost had it. We almost had it. I know that that could be the epitaph to twenty. We almost had it but here we are again so. Why Booker lose by two instead of a winning by a narrow margin, so the answer is. A couples as it always comes back to the media, and and by the way the reason it was closer to, and was also of the media, so let me explain his career. He was again so in the beginning Chuck Schumer comes in and says oh I picked. Amy McGraw is now. All Democrats say McGrath was and they? Do you remember grant ever get out of the race? And every. Member of the press dutifully reports aiming McGrath is going to be the candidate. Everybody shut up and go away so meanwhile. Charles Booker Mark Royal Run they're both progressives and I. Honestly I had no idea which of the two was gonNA break out. And then but they get no coverage at all no coverage of the very last month. And all of a sudden here here, coz Bernie Sanders and Yes Elizabeth Warren Usao. See and they all come in and endorse booker, and now also of course Charles Brokers black, and obviously after George Floyd death, there was a lot of protests specifically in Kentucky because Brianna Taylor one of the largest stories of police shootings of unarmed blackhawks have an income duckie. She was from Kentucky and so David Magazine. We cover that story almost the rest of the national press. It was actually one of the most egregious stories in the whole country He was He had a little barbecue shop that he ran outside. Cups fired indiscriminately into crowd. And him totally unjustified able, but since there's no video of it, people that make a big deal, but in Kentucky. It was a video so then finally the press wakes up and goes Oh. Oh, there's somebody else in the race. schmucks. We've been telling you for a year. there. was somebody else in the race and he just refused to cover it until the last month. The problem was that evening. There's a because of crony buyers. There's early voting mail in voting, and so a lot of people who voted didn't even know Charles. Poker was in the race. So? She built a believed their Schumer Guide her through all that publicity et, Cetera and the donors enhancer democratic leadership got her forty one million dollars. And after booker loosened by two points in a near Barack those run at the end. People Social Media, saying all you geysers or searle losers. What's the big deal?.

Mercy. O Welcome aboard a news radio, 8 40 w. H as Terry Minors here thought of Eyes on Kentucky today. In fact, the hashtag is all eyes on Kentucky. That seems to be a bit of a stretch. But people who Live and breathe. Politics have been watching the Amy McGrath, Charles Booker race and others. But obviously it's to see who pops up in the Pez dispenser of politicians to challenge Mitch McConnell in November. We have our answer. It's Amy McGrath, former fighter pilot. What do you make of the closeness of the race between Amy McGrath and Charles Booker? You know, from Amy's perspective, it's going to be very disturbing. You know, she she's in the establishment. Take all along. Had the money had the name but I only get to 45%. I think I saw somebody tweet out that a Democrat has not broken 50% statewide since 1992. That's gotta be a little troubling, especially when you're getting ready to face. What is the mountain of McConnell his? You know his pundits, his supporters his cash flow. It's going to be tremendous, but I have surprised how close it was. McConnell's detractors always go with the same hashtag ditch Mitch and it seems like it's a warn thing. It's like it's been tried not six times prior. Because the first time he ran he was running straight up, but the the five other times that he's won since his original victory. That was the phrase that was used, and I always tell these campaigns each time try something new. That's not working, and then so we have Moscow, Mitch. It's like the whole Russian thing has has been shown to be. Mostly nonsense. I mean, even though now we're hearing another wave of Russia, Russia, Russia about Russia paying Taliban fighters putting bounties on American soldiers, It seems like a fruitless pursuit. What sort of a strategy should McGrath's people put in place to try and gain traction against Mitch McConnell? I mean, the honest answer, Terry. I don't think there is there is not a winning strategy against bitch. McConnell in my mind, you looked back at the variety of opponents that he's faced. And people said the same thing right When Alison Grimes, you're like, Oh, this is the she's the chosen one. And she couldn't even answer who she voted for for president and it is it up thinking her campaign and to me from zooming way out. If Amy McGrath cannot ride the blue wave of 2018 into office, there is absolutely zero chance for her to beat McConnell when he's also going to be running with Donald Trump. On the ballot and probably one of Trump's strongest state. Why would Chuck Schumer go in so early with Amy McGrath and I'm not taking it? Amy McGrath? I'm just trying to understand strategies and that's your line of work. So why would they go in so early? And miss an opportunity to back someone like Charles Booker, who has youthful mo mentum and an African Americans perspective and so many other elements that Amy McGrath apparently does not have. That's a great question. I think there's two answers. Or the 1st 1 is that when when the establishment in these committee extension arms of the Senate parties pick somebody they thinking two things. How long is it going to take to get appropriate name I D. And how much money do we need to raise the beat the opponent and so Amy was kind of an easy choice because she came so close against Andy Bar. She seemed to be popular in her district, so they thought, well, let's just run her statewide and forced McConnell tohave to spend more of the Republican money on his own race rather than Trying to help some of the other vulnerable report Republicans across the country, but they no one could have predicted what was gonna happen with George Floyd. What was gonna happen with the Corona virus, and I think this is a very incumbent friendly. Environment because people tend to run to what they know when they're scared, and they're uncertain and I think if you look at McConnell's track record over the last six years, I just don't think there's any question that he I think he may break 75% in this race just because he's delivered So much for our state. Doesn't Amy McGrath need though? Charles Booker on stage with her a lot to try and convince his enthusiastic, energetic crowds that she deserves his support. Absolutely. I love the way you put it before the break. He needs to be her running mate. Because the Democratic Party of Kentucky is fractured Right now, the fact that he almost over took her in less than two months time. You know, we talked about the last time politics is timing, but the fact that he came so close They're not decided in that party who their persons. Mitch almost got 90% so it's very decided to do the Republicans are behind. And I think she absolutely needs them. And I'll just make this note. It's fascinating to me that the Democratic Party of Kentucky has yet to nominate an African American candidate and the GOP in Kentucky has not nominated not only one and two but elected to So I find that very interesting in the current environment that you're right. Charles has to be out there. He's got to be full throated, or I think Amy continues to limp to defeat. And your references to Daniel Cameron and Janine Hampson. That's exactly right. Yeah. Okay, um Charles Booker's got an interesting windshields to stare through now, because he has this moment. Um he's got national attention right now, and he can't just walk. Away and not make some noise. Pretty soon, I think so..

We need to do those things, but we need to make sure we get people yet. Sanjay, were you? Like you, that type of that's what he was doing, right. The freedom dividend wasn't originally called universal base against. Yeah he was. He was building on the I in us. Air Crowds are really after save it. He helps to elevate this conversation. This is actually something epic pushing for for years. Dr Gained about a guaranteed your income and you know how we. is we need to do things like that and we can you know say blank checks to? Overturn industrial conflicts. We can give the big pharmaceutical industry handle. This money goes to administrative calls. Lack of transparency. Instead of it's a better care. We can make sure that we're people out. Excuse about it in Kentucky. Don't want to hear any more excuses, so that's be going. To now we realize what power is. Can we understand and and I? I have afraid of consensual hoods at. By we're realizing how comment bars and we're standing together and we're GonNa win this fight. You know you must know that Mitch. McConnell has the lowest approval rating of every single senator, and we know at and bats, even after Rand Paul. Who Know is. Do. Why why does he keep getting elected for how many years skype in a senator thirty years? He's been leg. He was elected two weeks after I was born. So. Just because it says incumbent to his name or heard it. Out Like I was saying. We Kentucky being one of the pulse. Disenfranchised states is hard to vote here like in a lot of people have just given up. Too busy trying to survive like well, you know these politicians don't care about anyway and he's been there. On a chain so I'M GONNA JUST KEEP And and Saying that you can't beat someone like this, McConnell, who is an institution? Just. Hit him over. It's about the approach Democrat. beat up that way. and. We have to stop people to believe things can be different. We gotTA lift up the voices of folks who have. Tapped out and has just drive a hand. We gotta rap office around at the attitude. Much less in you know this is sounds to give ways to be accounted for. We gotta do that worked of work. The committee organizes fights to do all the time and an organizer heart so I. This is how can happen and that's really why we built with trump because you got. I running against a progress. Who is essentially using Mitch McConnell playbook. Big Funny Dance around. "Will definitely be the president one day I. He's gotTa. Beat Amy McGrath in the Kentucky Primary this week to become the Democratic nominee for Senate and then beat Mitch McConnell November. Everybody who is paying attention wants this guy. He not only has endorsements from Alexandria. Cossio Cortez and Bernie Sanders. He's also been endorsed by the two biggest newspapers in Kentucky but. But the challenge is reaching the people who aren't paying attention, and that's where you guys come in, so get ready to dust off that old facebook messenger and start campaigning because this guy is going to give you. The major hope feels so without further ado, where so honored to have opportunity to get candid with Kentucky's Best Senate candidate Charles Booker High Charles A thank you for having me I. Wait a minute. That was the best. I've ever heard. Do you WanNa hire us for your campaign? Actually we'll just do it for free. We Really WanNA. Come after you win on, Tuesday we WANNA come to Kentucky and campaign for you. WanNa stand up Mall Oh yeah. I? Feel the love and Yes we win this primary you all coming down. Let's make some noise together. Yeah, so right off the bat. We gotta talk about that video. It's clearly going down as one of the most historically relevant moments ever in American politics. Can you please put it into context for it? Like what was the? What was bill one fifty? What was going on in the room? Just everything about it. I'm that was. It was a very powerful moment in that I was actually speaking out against an abortion bill The bill was to essentially permanently ban all abortion A Republican colleague of mine got up to fund amendment that would consider the life of the mother. That amendment was shot down. And all of this happen right after they passed the bill Senate bill one fifty, that was for permanent lists. Concealed carry, which would essentially say that you know you don't need to be trained. Don't worry about a license. Don't worry about the certification wish I explained as a young black man. I'm already seen as a deadly weapon. Now, you're essentially giving law. Enforcement and additional green light to say don't even worry about asking because they won't even have it. You can blow them away and you will be justified and so. I got up and actually acted out another very Critical. Moment that I'm GonNa tell my grandchildren about acted out a scene of what would be light. As a black man to be shot by police And so you know when I was speaking that moment you know there were a lot of folks that got up to talk about how we need to ban abortion. And you know they were leaning into their faith, and both my parents ministers come from pentecostal background My face was critical made. But Mafia teaches me to honor the humanity of people, and it inspires needs to know that we cannot be talking about women's hells and agency of women as if they don't exist, and as if they're not in in the Pitcher, and you know so I've always been a loud voice to say that no, we need to protect the rights of women in honor, their voices, and get out of their way in. quit trying to Put ourselves in shoes that we can never feel. in so my remarks will just explaining that. If you WANNA say that you're protecting life. By banning abortion. Than mean what you're saying and quit showing the hypocrisy in your in your in your position because you just pass legislation that would kill people that look like me. And so I started out. My life matters to, and I wasn't even really saying that for me. I was thinking about so many Kentuckians that feel invisible. They feel like nobody cares about them. The. Politicians elected officials could care less whether they live or die whether they have food on the table, or they're homeless and I just shouted it out in the speaker cut mike off. And I'm like you know what I don't care about the Mike my life matters twos. I just kept yelling at and It's so relevant to this moment. It's chilling Razia. Showing I had no idea that was about permit lists concealing Carey. Did you wow no, and it's crazy. Just everything you're saying to and I love you know the fact that you're coming from a pentecostal background for people do. Come across people faith where you're coming from such a different position than they are people who use the Bible in a way that just seems to take away right away. Rights rather give an and so I can just tell you. I appreciate that you are coming from that position and I and I hope that people can just hear that message. It's so important especially coming from somebody who you know as a person of faith. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we, we exist and. And we just need more leaders that can speak speak with moral clarity and. I am. Yeah, let's Talk About Kentucky. Is there a history of police violence and brutality? There and if so is, is this moment gonNa be enough to like? move the needle this time. yes, there is a history and that is an understatement. Louisville has been. One of the most segregated cities in the country and so I live in the west end as where I connected with you from you all come down here. I'll show you around. This is zip code on me and right now it has been the poorest Zip Code in Kentucky for years and you know we criminalize poverty in our country. We certainly do it here and especially when it comes to. Across the rates with women, we have the highest or the planet. A. There's a lot of does a lot of tension. in our community does a whole lot of this trust. There have been so many cases of Talvitie Involved with law enforcement bed, we've just come to expect it. And so I I knew Brianna Taylor. She was close. Friends to my TJ was arted on Easter Sunday four years ago. And J.. TJ Was a part of what was called the identified for. These were four young black men. who were profile in arrested for incident that they had nothing to do with he was leaving his job. There was a big incident and I'll waterfront art. Some young people were 'cause disturbance. All the the wealthy folks were alarmed the wanted to respond, so they found for black males to. Make the culprit. And put them in jail. Cousin had no money for bail, so we had to stay in jail. He could weight loss's job. They ended up confirmed that in fact, he was but there. They got a big settlement from the city. And and he was murdered in the car that he bought with his settlement check. And and he embryonic were really tight and so. You know all of this why you're seeing us like warning. The streets cry out in the streets because like where to so exhausted. Salah exhausted by this. We just want thanks to chains and I do believe. That because of what happened to be either in the way that it happened. I think it's triggered something and I think you know George Floyd what we're seeing across the country now I think people are are seeing it in a different way and I believe is in part because it is pandemic. That is sort of forcing people to slow down and look awhile. And sense of comfort and confidence security. has in a lot of ways being taken away because a lot of folks have lost, their jobs are losing. Their is out there, though sort of looking around like what do we do? And then they see the talent. and my hope is that. You know we can honor the life of Brianna Taylor as. Everybody that's becoming a Hashtag by demanding routes US accountability. In one less thing I'll say is that. Reality was.
