Charles Barkley Calls out Rich Paul and Klutch Sports for Manipulating the NBA

"Clutches able to come up with a solution to this that gets darryl what he needs. That gets them to a place that he'd like to be in an doesn't adversely impact the sixers fortunes in the east. And you know helps other players along the way. I keep hearing like weird names. Cleveland might have an angle minnesota's by favorite getaway any of their assets the minnesota in sacramento ones. Have that kind of logic of of those Folks in those offices have history with daryl. So you know that there they can have conversations and there's absolutely no reason whatsoever for the sixers do a goddamn thing before training camp before the season starts is the best thing about this before the trade deadline. I mean i think that they're well positioned to just chill for a bit. Here's what barkley said on the mike mass analysis show. He's talked about clutch. Was you know how that group works. They try to trade their players to where they want to anthony davis. They had better deals from boston. Maybe even new york. They're like no he's gonna play with. Lebron is not gonna play. They just bullied. The league team. Got to stand up and say i paid your guy. He can't bully me a trade him and meet and have me take some trash back. I'm hoping somebody in the sixers organization got some stones barkley said we have not seen a team degan before and the quick thing you know. There's a persecution complex of them look for so amid this point the most powerful agent is always the least popular agent. David falk in the nineties was basically presented as the anti christ and blame for every bad thing that happened the league in the nineties. Scott boras same thing in baseball. Everybody had scott boras when you're the top agent near attached to the top guy and you're swinging elbows and get clydes what you want and do all that stuff. You're gonna take shit. I don't like some of the stuff they do at the same time. This is a referendum on them right. What how much power do they actually have. Because in this case philly has no trade.

So it's a front pocket wallet. I've been doing that for ten fifteen, probably twenty years now only because the way to the wall, I might behind was too much. Most people don't even do that, they base wage a couple of credit cards, or driver's license, and some cash with a rubber band around it with the cell phone. Now we can attach credit cards. "A minute brought. You realize it ain't you'll night real free to take a layup every now and then. I don't think that's the real reason you don't like three. Charles i think i don't want to over analyze your get too deep here but i think it's a natural instinct on your part. I don't like seeing people be good at things. When i'm terrible at you know it's why i don't watch that national spelling bee every year. I don't need to see some little door celebrate because they know how to spell staphylococcus from addo. You know. By the way the way i spell it makes more sense with with a big fat sealed. Ck word. i'm a firm believer though in. You shouldn't be using words. You're not gonna use ever in your life is up a spelling bee right another very good motto. But i'm not jealous. Guys make the summit of i suck. It doesn't bother me at all but look that's all well and good what you're saying. I don't think you're jealous of the other guys. I think it's three point. Shot itself that you're upset about see from an outsider's perspective. It seems like you actually love the three. The three just doesn't love you back the and now you resent it. A little bit is charles. It's a three pointer. The one that got away. I shouldn't say one it's more like the one thousand four hundred and eighty two that got away. 'cause that's so many missed charles and i got another nickname for you. Oh based on this. How about this one the renowned clown who can't hit from downtown about that one. There's a lot of shit there so annette up. Yeah not my best now. Talking about today's game going back to this. It is now a little bit more boring now that it's not as physical as when you played. I certainly feel that way. But on the plus side. Isn't it good. That players are more protected from lasting injuries. I mean looking at you for example looking at your golf swing in particular something in your body. your mind is clearly broken permanently. No i'm coming out of my slump right now. You saw me in a match built bill out here. Some good shots. Hey limitations. i'm. I'm only going to get better. I been on a slot for twenty something years. I'm coming out of my slum. It is impossible for you to get worse. I'm put this the most complementary way possible. Okay charles. I remember the first time i saw. You swing a golf club. I say this in all honesty. I thought i was looking into the mouth of hill. Okay because halfway through the downswing there was this moment. Time stood still. I thought the tv broke. It's like you totally forgot what you were doing. Then moment later you violently started back up and you flailed wildly at the ball. It was like sad and frightening and took a very long time was like watching. Somebody put the car in neutral and slowly. Run over a dog. It was definitely sad and frightening and painful..

Let ben simmons for example. He is shooting threes because he lacks confidence. I think to yourself a man confidence. All this kid needs from me to throw a diaper his head and call a big dumb baby. I thank you for the call. My brother who uh asia like my bodyguard might my younger brother. Jeffrey e Tell me about your article ends like back for so long. I like trying to keep my mind away from those conversations. You know not because anything else. Just because you don't want to go through the stress you know thinking about weighing. You don't have control so for me not giving it. Honestly you know it definitely was tough and guys like charles barkley shack others who played against the clan. Help validate that. And then you get to the point where you say you know what i am. Famer don trying to be cocky descending on. I know what i did. And so what i did was i wanted i really. Who will be Indianapolis Colts' quarterback in 2021

"But we begin today with music that philip rivers is retiring after seventeen seasons in the nfl. Sixteen with the chargers and san diego and los angeles and this one season in indianapolis when he got to the playoffs rivers never got to the super bowl but he stands fifth all time in passing yards and touchdown passes and he started the final. Two hundred forty games of his career without interruption will now become a high school football coach in alabama. Like his dad. We'll how will you remember his career. Well tony we automatically in any sport. Now we began to group people right and we associate certain people with certain folks football. It's done by position you know in a way that is probably not in the other sports. But i think of warren moon and dan fouts guys who were prolific prolific players who had long runs and played almost every game and they had a piled up passing stats. Galore like rivers did but they didn't reach the super bowl and then about through no fault of their own. Their teams weren't good enough. They got close. Each of those three gentlemen got close. But didn't have the breakthrough to the super bowl and rivers the same way river sets himself apart because he ran his mouth a lot. Which i have done without and i tend to like trash talkers but i i am. I didn't take to that. But he was a prolific quarterback. Tony he will receive serious consideration for the hall of fame. You know. I mean fouts and moon that to me shapes the category. I don't know if you've got other names. You'd like to put in there as well. Get to the hall of fame in a second but in looking at philip rivers his career. I thought he was a very very good player. I will remember. Most is the way the way he delivered the ball where he wound up and threw it as far as he could. And most of the time you thought it wasn't even going to get there. But it got there especially with antonio gates and it ended up in the end zone a lot. You talked about grouping people. Well i'm gonna group them as well. I'm going to group them with his draft class and draft class ally manning ben rothlisberger. They both dot to multiple super bowls. They both won super bowls. I feel badly for philip rivers in this regard to me. It's like charles barkley. It's everything but the ring because the statistics are certainly there. And i thought it was a very good quarterback. I'll take the hall of fame issue. I'll add another name dan marino. Who never won a super bowl if the comparables to marino and to moon and to fouts are rare. Then he's going to get in. I don't think they hold it against you. If you haven't won a super bowl there are people who've won. Two super bowls aren't in the hall of fame. You not room for a long ten years. Yeah do you think he would get in.

NBA teams kneel during national anthem as season restarts

"Night, the embassy isn't got underway. And of course, there was a lot of attention being brought to what would happen during the national anthem. There were two games last night, and everybody kneels every single player, every single coach, even the officials. They all take a knee for solidarity with the national anthem. So I was curious as to what the broadcasters of the game on TNT, Shaquille O'Neal and Charles Barkley had to say, kind of surprising, actually, listen to Charles Barkley's response here. You're going to hear from shack first and then Charles Barkley type of God. They say you should do is you should do that. Everyone has their own platform. You know they're on their own brand. I'm proud of every one. And my thing is Listen. That's not the mean different things to different people. I'm glad these guys all unified where the people people don't kneel. You're not a bad person. I want to make that perfectly clear. I'm glad they had unity. But if we have a guy who doesn't want to kneel called the After me some to him, he should not be vilified. Listen

'The Last Dance:' Debate over Michael Jordan's trash talking on 1997-98 Chicago Bulls

"More discussion this morning. Of course about the last dance the legacy of Michael Jordan and his Chicago Bulls teams of the nineteen nineties and whether or not the way Jordan governed that group demanded of them held them accountable. Some might say bullied them was fair. Michael Wilbon who covered Jordan Bulls and knows Jordan about as well as anyone in the media. This side of a moderate shod. Join Max Steven A. And discussed the question was Michael Jordan. Too tough on his teammates. What were your thoughts when you heard. What Charles Barkley had to say about Michael Jordan In regards to his treatment of his teammates. Well look everybody's gotTa take on. Michael and how? Ruffy was teammates. Select Selective Prosecution. Was the words he used select. Prosecution said look everybody had a different leadership style. Reason part of the reason for this documentary reasoning exists is because Michael decided okay. I'm going to be able to sort of control the conversation in terms of why I did what I did and how I did it. I it comes out and says hey you know you've had this conversation with them. He wasn't trying to adopt anybody else's leadership style. He was going to do this his way. And when it worked then you had to. You heard him during. I thought the most effective part of the last dance department made me reach for a notebook and put my reporter hat back on his when Michael Said you know. Winning has a price. And if you don't want to buy into the mentality. I am using here. Get out it's GONNA be. It's GonNa be hell for you. I think was the phrase. And so you see all those teams that you see will produc- Winnington and those guys say at the time that we did it. Seem like he crossed the line. Yes as went on. Did we think he was a great teammate? Yes this is not look you can have whatever take you. WanNa have on it and I understand Charleston's take because it was different but nobody else in their time as much I mean magic and Kareem on the way in but it worked and so I even sit. There does interesting mom watching in real time I have not. I did not watch all the episodes of advanced like most people in our business. I wanted to watch in real time with my son. Who's a twelve year old basketball player and his eyes so big? When Michael says certain things to his teammates we are watching the unedited version The watch the PG rated version of the DEUCE and he's like. Wow Dad he has to do that with his teammates. And I'm like I don't know if he had to but it worked they won and that's the bottom line right. There is the quote that tells you at all they won in Jordan's way worked. Max made a great point during the you know there was no Celtics Lakers rivalry. There wasn't because Jordan he was Roy Jones. He was so good. There were no equals. No rivals

"Player and very like we had out here in Vegas gained all of the players on that team Blake Griffin. All of the young guys coming up and giving me hugs and kisses. And thank you me because you know in that situation just in terms of dollars from Lebron James. He's got an extra one hundred million dollars. Toby gotta one extra one hundred million dollars Lake Griffin got an extra fifty million dollars Kevin Durant who give me a big hug and kiss each got seventy five million dollars extra so the number one dollars and sense that give you an example of what it is because with with four years have yet to wait four years after your high school graduate. You wouldn't lose that kind of capital and you lose that plant on you will lose four entitled number. That will help them get into the hall. Laid on those numbers would be race. And you don't know what happened four years then in College Spencer Haywood Aba Nba Legend and hall of Famer. Hey will always be remembered that the person opened the door for underclassmen college basketball players to leave college early to enter the NBA thereby creating the Spencer Haywood Rule Haywood attended the University of Detroit and help the US Olympic team to a gold medal at the nineteen sixty eight summer games in Mexico City. Nineteen sixty eight. After two years in college he decided to enter the NBA draft citing family financial hardship the NBA however at the time for players entering the draft until four years. After the high school graduation. Hey would then sign with the ABA. Denver rockets play one season leading the league in scoring and rebounding as a rookie since he now had a professional season under his belt he decided to challenge the NBA rule. Once again and signed with the Seattle Supersonics in one thousand nine hundred sixty nine the NBA wasn't having it. Hey will the league all the way to the US or frame court and one on September eleven? Two Thousand Fifteen. He wasn't Tryin Naismith Basketball Hall of fame. I'm John Johansen Junior and welcome to another edition of and Black America on this week's program. Aba An NBA Legend and hall of Famer Semester. Haywood in Black America. Charles Barkley went out on a limb when this stuff was acting when they were acting crazy. And I'm they missed me like the last time of going into the hall of fame and I was like put on the backburner right house. Barclay stepped up and said on. Nuff is enough and did it publicly. He did it every way you said enough is enough now. This is not right and he stood up as a player and he started educating young players. Like do y'all know who is in our presence with Spencer Haywood Blah Blah. And he started talking about. You know there's like three cases that changed the face of force in one dispenser Haywood Heywood versus the NBA. I went to the Supreme Court and then play a young player. Started like Whoa wait a minute. I know him I see him but I never knew that until Charles was the one that should should should be there. And he's my what you call. My advocate advocate is Just to a good person. Just a wonderful person. Spencer Haywood won Olympic gold medal in one thousand nine hundred sixty eight at age nineteen and signed with the Seattle Supersonics two years later after dominating the ABA and a case that went to the US Supreme Court he sued the NBA or rule that prohibited players being draft until the league until they waited for years after graduating from high school. He won that case and nineteen eighty. He won a world championship with the Los Angeles Lakers as a twenty rookie in nineteen sixty nine. Seventy season he led the American Basketball Association both scoring and rebounding and was named the League's Most Valuable Player and rookie of the year. One on April twenty seven nineteen forty nine and silver city Mississippi into a family of Chen Children Hayward grew up in a dying era of American history. His mother picked cotton for two dollars a day and Heywood joined her in the field at the age of five hundred sixty four he moved to Chicago then to Detroit in the motor city. He leads pershing high school to the one thousand nine hundred sixty seven Michigan class. A State Basketball Championship. He went on to a stellar careers at Trinidad State Junior College and the University of Detroit in the summer of nineteen nine hundred sixty eight. He helped the United States to a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Mexico City on September. The eleventh. Two Thousand Fifteen. Hey what was inducted into Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of fame? My first reaction was You know is this fact in. Is this true because I had had Three falls a long before that because most reporters and most people who look at numbers and they at by numbers as a player and that this guy was. Mvp of the ABA averaging thirty and twenty five years with the Seattle Supersonics average in twenty six and thirteen and Olympic record holder and all of these different categories and as still as leading score and also was the outstanding college player of the year. So they look at all these things and they just assume that everybody thought again. Then you know also I went to the Supreme Court to fight he would versus the NBA to pave the way for Lebron's Michael Jordan magic. All of them they come through what is called. I the NBA. They call it early entry and now. I think it should be called what it is to Spencer. Haywood because they have the Larry Bird rule and they have Oscar Robertson. Rule regrettably Oscar but I know they promote birds and Larry Bird's modified version of my role. Larry Bird came in on a dispenser. It will but anyway so for years we thought this would happen and then there was a couple of false alarms that it did happen. So I was kidding around with John Deliver with the The Chairman and CEO. The hall and he was mentioning. You know. Well I probably spend Kareem. Rise is always the top. Yeah I said well. What does that got to do with with Kareem abdul-jabbar? My my blonde jokes Right so so Yeah it was. It was delighted. Mandic to get the call and to finally get to call it. Finally get it in but you know my mother used to sing this whole Psalm Lord and may not come when you want and buddies right on time. And that's my Jackson right so you know if it had to happen any other time. I think it would have been not as powerful as it is today and It was right on time. And it's on God's time so I'm very grateful and very humble Vita journey understand so once. You heard that you were going to be inducted. Walk us through that period from the time that you got to call to the induction ceremony that took place last Friday. September the eleventh. What all the activities have you been involved with. Well I've been all over the country Speaking and people wanting to know this story because it's a unique story and it is basketball history but yeah you know it hasn't been told so It's a new newfound appreciation for Spencer. Haywood so players have been embracing me like only at USA basketball here. In Las Vegas Games all the players on that team Blake Griffin. All of the young guys coming up and giving me hugs and kisses and thanking me. Because you know that situation just in terms of dollars and cents per Lebron James. He's got an extra one hundred million dollars. Coby got a one extra one hundred million dollars but griffin got extra fifty million dollars Kevin Durant who give me a big hug. 'cause he's got seventy five million dollars extra so that's the numbers in dollars and sense that. I give you an example of what it is because with with four years. An Interview with WWE Legend Kurt Angle

"Incredibly pleased society. We've got joining us. Who never quite expected? That's phones on silent everyone. I never expected that we would have on. Tko wwe wrestling legend. Kurt Angle first of all. Thank you so much for for taking the time to join us. Thanks for having me on. And let's see you're over here with them. WWe promoting the new bt sport. Yes exclusively in the UK for the two thousand and twenty busy day few. Yeah we started early morning and we're GONNA go out tonight we just have like a a gathering at bt. Not and. I think it ends at eleven o'clock but we started early morning and this is normal for for sports entertainers. Yeah do a lot of media so going a huge wrestling fan on A. You didn't have sky in your house. Yes so I was like an a young kid by Cole I was Afam. wrassling bottom was on the subway channels and I didn't have sky the watch it as much as other guys. Yeah but I was obviously a world of high beg ables. Did you know when you first joined. Because obviously in these this day and age social media the Internet you know how truly global the companies and how far you're reaches but were you aware in in the late ninety s just how many people were watching worldwide now. I I didn't watch wrestling. I didn't grow up watching it. I start watching it it would. I started so when I saw the company late ninety eight. That's when I started watching I do WanNa come on those days. But he's okay. You got quite like to find Natalie about your amateur wrestling career because as a professional sportsman. That's something that you were known for his part of your. WWe character but actually that was a huge part of your career and your life you were in a family of rest is your brother's arrest sits right yeah had four brothers. They all wrestled. They were all very successful. I was the youngest. Didn't really like wrestling. The START WITH I. I like team sports. I didn't like it depending solely on me but the more I watched my brothers and growing up I start liking wrestling. I started getting better and eventually I got better than they were and then I became came the best of my family by win the Olympic medal. Yeah 'cause wrestling in America's be of a high school institution because we have it starts when you're serve in elementary school visit. Almost every school has a program right so junior high high school college. It's very big over there. So it's it's part of our culture because a lot of people call for boxing to be put into schools as part of the curric- it used to be in the schools and there's a call for it become back and installs obviously a lot of discipline and everything else and you see the the problems that society has these with Nayef Cram and gang culture and everything else. I think. Think that programs like that rather than in the states and boxing programs and the stats are in the UK. Only going to help us. What point did you? What age did you think this could really be serious for me as a career I would say around thirteen fourteen? I started having a lot more success and got to the high school level and I lost success there and it just carried over to college and I didn't really. Oh you think about Olympics. When I was younger I just thought about that season and if I could win the championship that year and every year I continue to win which Olympic I'm big city one nine hundred ninety six Atlanta Atlanta well? Is that your proudest moment. Out of everything you've done in your career. Olympic gold medal surpasses says anything. Yeah it was You know even bigger than anything. I've accomplishing wwe. Yeah Yeah Imagine. That was a kind of Golden Olympics for the US esteem cousteau was the homeland picked. Michael Johnson it like the basketball team is Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal came one. Those guys Gail Devers. Even Andre Agassi won the tennis and we're legends in that team. What was it like to be off in the Olympic Village? Seeing those people it was pretty cool. You know you knew it was special when you went to opening ceremonies and you saw the athletes there and the guys you mentioned they were the guys and girls that were participating that were already professionals professionals and they made it you know viable for pros to end up competing in the Olympics and so you saw basketball and tennis. Ns and now even golf. So the the pros are going and winning medals as well now so those of it because one of the things the Olympics exp boxing is one of the only sports where there is a kind of. There's another trajectory and other policy if you win a medal for of sports certainly minority sports. That aren't necessarily a lot of TV coverage the Olympic medal can often be the kind of end of the road. There isn't anywhere else. I speak to go resting very well. Be One of those is and and so for you that amazing so the question I was going to ask you without. FMA How to beg then as it was Ni- would you have took that pop rather than the wwe without a doubt. Yeah wow it wasn't at that point. UFC struggling they offered me a ten fight. Deal for one hundred fifty grand and that was our biggest contract they ever offered. This was in ninety seven and then sound very good to me so I decided decide to go pro wrestling and by two thousand one two thousand and two you have see was kicking in high gear but I was already drawn in and a pro wrestling scene. So how how did the what was the chain of events that let you to the door of of the W W well in one thousand nine hundred sixty minutes man offer me a contract. I flew up to meet with them and I wasn't interested. I had a lot of people. Tell me you know you grew up. You never watched the Fake what you did was real a lot of my peers. Were telling me don't do it. So my agent through the contract the way and I'd say in one thousand nine hundred star watching Watching stone. Don't go Steve Austin the Rock and however flannel. They weren't how entertaining they were. I thought man I could do this. I think it'd be a lot of fun and you have see at the time. Time wasn't going anywhere so I went with a wwe. What was the the early memories? Because I imagine wrestling's one of the toughest sports there is a is a amateur wrestling but of red. If in a few places that is a pro wrestling were were incredibly tough. What were your first memories of some of the first lessons and training training sessions? You did all the first day. When I started training I quit? I took three bumps and my neck the pain I was getting my neck and back it was like this isn't normal. You don't it's like self abuse and you know we bump on plywood. It's a lot like this and There's no spring underneath It is self mutilation. You're you're basically beating that crap on yourself because you're allowing. I mean people were throwing around and take your head off with a clothesline and the object. You're bumping on his plywood so it was very abusive in the first day. I I didn't like it and I decided to hang in there. I came back the next day and I continued on. I got used to bumping and and used the pain so eventually didn't bother me as much but I'm paying for it. Now see a leg generation before ours. My Dad's generation. They would not really look favorably upon the tablet Ali. But what these guys do is take some serious stick their body. There's some serious injuries and stuff. It's you know your two weight world champion. And you've taken many punches to the head and body is is anyone WanNa taking a lifetime. What is what is pain to you guys? How do you manage pain? Do you ever get used to it as ever become less painful or do you just become used to living in that place. It's something you get used to. And as a young boxer I think Jimmy Moore. My trainer is spoke about this and said that you can tell from a very young age or someone hazard or not and it's normally a kids barn and if they take a punch annoys on they don't cry and they punch back it's like you can't make the Paean it's like I don't know what obviously adrenaline carries you through a lot of it but it's not like a real specific. If you punch me in the arm Ni- I would feel feel more pain than actually punching ahead fate strange sensation. It's not nice but it's very very hard up. Manassas gray but law detainees. I've not been able describe pain amateur wrestling pro wrestling. What are the worst kind of pain that you can describe? And how do you deal with those. I think the worst pain I had and I still have it now as an amateur wrestling right before the Olympics I got thrown on my head and I broke my neck and I didn't know it. I kept wrestling again that day. I ended up winning the US Open and that put me in a good position to make the Olympic team for the Olympic. Trials made me the top guy so I didn't have the Russell the mini tournament Face the winner of the mini tournament. I was the guy that the mini tournament faced. So Oh i I I couldn't get passed by any doctor doctor. Wood Passer would allow me to wrestle so I eventually found a doctor and and he said the only thing you can do. You can't train you just would just stick in a neck with Nova game and you won't feel the pain. And he was right every match. I had at the trials and the Olympics. I got twelve shots. Novacaine the back of my neck couldn't feel it for about an hour and Russell and then an hour later I'd be in a lot of pain. You won the Olympic Games uh-huh with a broken neck that's insane quotes and wwe also. Yeah yeah I broke both my hands. The last vote doesn't ideal and it wasn't wasn't nice but it's hard to imagine when the pinnacle of Your Sport Olympic Games to be competing against the top guys in the world with a broken neck does that. I can't imagine boxing. We're broken hand. We are called you a few weeks ago and you said this is the most pain I think I've ever been in the radon especially she'll have a little bit of bone removed from the right time but there there was a a tendon that had ripped and it needed stitch together without that Han was give me more than than the left hand which has seven unscrews and appropriate and at night. He's but just because it had to have some work done the Tandon It was It wasn't wasn't nice. I WanNa ask you a question. Did you know ahead had a time that you're gonNA be suffering after your career from the injuries. Would you go back and when you do it all over again I we do it all over again because obviously enjoyed every bit of my career. I've been very successful more successful than I probably would have imagined. I've been lucky enough that my injuries alot. My last night I broke Mahan but previous my husband really suffered injuries but I would one hundred percent hop gum heart do it all over again. What about you? I don't know I mean I'm I'm hurting pretty badly my knees my back my neck. Sometimes I think about you know what when I go back my quality of life right now socks so I do have a lot of suffering. I had a painkiller addiction overcame about six years ago and you know stay clean and struggle. In the way I have been very difficult. was there a lot of pressure even when you had injuries week in week out to go and perform Tom. Did you ever feel that. You couldn't say no part of the problem no I I. Nobody ever forced me to do anything. There are a lot of times. I had a a great doctor that you gave me off had three neck surgeries and he was very easy to manipulate. So you know when I broke my neck and I had surgery I would talk him into clear Amina go back early and At the time he didn't have their wellness policy L. A. C. set where they had their doctor clear. You we go to our own doctor and I was able to do that a couple of times where I should have. I've been back and I did so I broke my neck four more times and WWF and It caused me to go into a downward spiral painkiller. Alert addiction in just almost room my life so it was. It was very difficult. Can I just say you have one of the strongest biggest looking knocks. Have you seen as well. Yeah Rick out again. Yeah wow so. How many times are you performing when when you when you arrested him? Mm to twice a week. You'll be performing five days a week. You for forming five

"Called Palm Basketball. I grant you don't even know. The terminology is called Palma basketball. I can grip the old Pele. I like to call palm in the basketball. Good Ball. Okay well you say tomato I say tomato that was so why are named group can as long as I'm holding it so so that my hand is on the low side and gravity. Then it's then I would. You remind me of some of these foods who walk around spinning a ball on the finger. I'm like yeah. Yeah that's not a basketball talent globetrotter. If you don't have to do that in a game like that all the time like I spend it on my finger. I'm like yeah. What part of the play? Why is that you have to put in a basket? That's great when you globetrotter. But that doesn't work in the actual basketball game. Do you think there are ways. I'm always thinking of ways to improve sports. We ever go beyond the three point. Play no listen to me. I didn't hear my pitch yet. Please don't start with a four point play. I want to go to five five point. But here's the thing you have to be. It has to be from the other side of the court okay and it has so what you have to be covering the entire. You know a Length of the basketball court. And you gotta throw it up but just before you throw it. You've got to put on a costume quickly and if you can accomplish that you would get like five point. I mean little things like that little thing. Well they would have been of costumes on either side and then they rare chance that a team really needed to score five points instantly if you put on a Lincoln hat and beard really quickly and hurled it up in got it in. That's five. It's called a mass thinker. They gotta show show about yes. Let's keep it on and mass mask Pinger. All right. Don't don't don't ruin the game so you don't want to see four point shot ever. I do not white. One guy gets another guy shoulders and they score from the backboard and that's four points though we don't WanNa see that okay all right well. I guess you've just decided for everybody turn no fun. Tokyo's does the thinking of ways to improve the game so there's not one thinking of ways to add an exciting element that completely blows it open. We're accustomed now. Hey what did you think. The three point shot when it came along. We excited about it. I don't mind a three point shot. I mean it takes talent to make that shot right. I mean when you start going back up some people said come up with a four point shot or five point shot and they'll just strictly luck right now we don't listen. There's there's another lucky stuff that happened a game. We don't have to make it like a trick show right well just telling you what I think would work. And I'd like you to pitch that to the guys. Okay now we visit to those guys up on the air. Let me see if we get a movement. You'd think they listen to us up in New York City. Maybe I duNNo. I can make a few phone calls. I got a lot of poll. He'll take your call to you. Think they would well. Yeah if you call the Commissioner of the NBA. He would would not take my he would take my call. Of course we would stay calm if I can't do it yourself. You have your Secretary Secretary or personal system say so Causes my personal system called would like to talk to Adam Shiver. Of course he's GonNa take your phone call okay. How long is he on the phone? How long did you stay on the phone? Here's here's my idea for. The five point shot where you have to put on a hat and a beard. Oh that'd be like you'd probably get your two minutes out of common courtesy right and then he'd say because you August star he'll say we'll think about it and then no he's as good. He's even lie to me. No no dog on Adams a a great commissioner but he's not going to No we're not going to idea. Wow do tell it like it. It is for baseball. I had what I thought was a really good idea. which is once you hit the ball? You can decide to run from home to first order from home to third. You Go counterclockwise but once you choose that direction you have to stick in that direction and then you have. It adds a whole other kind of a strategy and then you have players running past each other on the base paths. What do you think of that idea? What were you drinking when you came up with that idea because you couldn't have been sober when you came up with that out there was a very hard? Lemonade emanate like like Mike Lemonade. But again no free pub was lemonade that had gone bad and become fermented. I'm from the south so we they like a lot down there. Yeah No. That's not bad idea. It's not as bad as first idea whether it's bad. Okay just thinking of ways to improve sports and so these ideas are free and you can take them where you can leave them. A Mo- leaving man. I want to thank you again. Years Ago I was in a location which will not divulge but I was in a very nice nice upscale place and I was with my wife newly married only been married about a year at that point and the waiter came over and he sat down down to apple teenagers at my table and then he blessed Urasoe Han right now. "Little hands can hold a whistle. It don't have little heads anyone listening to this podcast tasks ame large man. Another another take just talking to a larger man other. Take a big hand to hold a little whistle man. Do you ever think about the fact that you played a very physical kind of ball. And it's very hard to walk away from that sport and or any sport but I would say I would think particularly basketball without having lifelong pain. What did you what did you come away with? Because that's such you took such a pound. I'm in such pain like I just got to new hips. The first thing I did I probably need knees knees and shoulders. But I don't care to be honest with you and I've been shot a lot and as I've taken every drug possible to stay out there. I wouldn't change a thing about my life because you know calling on a little kid from a small town in Alabama grew up in a product when my mom being a made my grandmother worked in a meat packing factory I was able to buy my mother and Grandmother House. Take them out of poverty A two of my brothers a password. I got one brother left and I've been able to send four. My nieces to college changed the dynamics their life and then obviously I've been I've I've I've exceeded all my expectations and I don't care what kind of pain I'm in. I'm just gonNA take some advil. Some aleve paid for those two. Oh No no no no I was around. I'm hoping I get to actually hot commercial out of it. I don't care hear about the pain or anything like that. I got my hips done so I can play golf. You know but like to say like that's like these football players dot and I'm amazed by football player because it takes real courage to go out there but it's a dangerous sport but I guarantee you ask some of those guys. They wouldn't change a thing about it is. It's an amazing as in life. But like where's am. I going to make this type of money the baby by my mom and grandmother housing all my nieces college and live their life that I live I I went. I wasn't going to be a doctor or a lawyer. Let's be realistic. You are a very passionate proponent of education that's something that means a lot to you and making making sure the young people are educated and not just your nieces not family members that something that you have worked hard to make sure is available to more more people well is is really important as -nificant to me because I found out something when I made a role model commercial back in the late eighties does too many young black kids who think they're gonNA play pro sports. I'm like I'm not trying to be a bad guy on my trying to rain on your parade. You're not gonNA play Pro Sports. Get your education get your education get your education and that's all I talk to them about all the time one of the things that I've done the last couple of years I guess three has three. Historically Gla black colleges each a million dollars and I'm getting ready to do another one. I'm not gonNA now school yet but I'm getting ready to do a fourth one when I go spend time with the kids I said you you can be a doctor lawyer. Teacher firemen policemen engineer. Something like that but you can't we go home and look at Your Mom Dad. If they're both five seven you're not gonNA play. You are pro sport more than likely right but like I say you can be a doctor lawyer. Teacher firemen policemen engineer. You can do something amazing. So that's wanting my biggest regret in my life is that when I was younger we didn't take education more serious because it worked out good for me but I feel bad for some of the people because you know you've got a young kid everybody's taking education. Now you see now gas. We should've taken education a lot. More serious doesn't that's probably my biggest regret. Yeah and I'm trying to make up for when I go speak to schools guys. I don't care if you make get to pro. Sports bless you as less than one percent and every sport less than one percent in every sport and I don't think they understand how important importantly is to get a free education. Yeah it it's like a free education like most of my friends like they got like real jobs being serious financial debt because a student loans and I said guys they're going to. They're going to pay you to play a sport and get you a free education. That's a really big deal. At listen. I remember are bitterly. And forget what you're in the eighty s when the first NBA player made a million dollars and me and doctor j Moses and all the guys were going around half in each other we cannot believe that will NBA player was gonna make a million dollars. Yeah and now we got guys making thirty forty million we. I think we've probably got twenty twenty five to thirty guys making thirty million dollars or more and I'm like that's amazing for them. God blessed him but if I'm a little kid and like I say ah I'm going back ten fifteen years even when it was like five ten fifteen million dollars all these young kids think that's the reason they wanna be famous. They WANNA be famous. But it's really just about the money and stuff that comes with it and I number one. I wish him all luck but at some point you got to be realistic. I mean it's not that simple. Nobody just you can't will yourself to be famous and having a talent you gotta talent bless you. But he just can't say I just WANNA be famous because it doesn't work like that right right SONAL Mueller tests that. I have large hands won't you you've seen the many everyday stops appropriate..

Yeah well guess what it's worked for you people people like that. It's a great quality of yours and I think it's also makes you in my opinion one of the best commentators on television. So good at it you you are so entertaining and I think it's a combination of two things you know your stuff so you always have you have deep knowledge of the Game Deep Passion you love the game and you know what you have a lot of intelligent things to say about it but you're also not afraid to say which thinking and that's so entertaining guys do the amazing job. Well thank you. You know when people said they want honesty they really don't want honesty fans want you to they want you. To tell team is great. They don't describe drive your relationship with Shaquille O'Neal what's it like with you and Shack we. He's a great friend A loved working with him. He has Dennis Gannon and Flat Stanley. Yes and he's never had to think his way through a basketball game and may try to explain him sometimes you you know when you're the biggest deal in the world and you too bad is doing the world like he worked for X.. Amount of years. Yeah he can just do that. But the rest of the people are male model and when we try to explain to him some on on a basketball court he's looking at us like cross eyed and then he gets so mad and all he can say is you don't have no championship manship rings and I don't but it has nothing to do with our basketball conversation we're having and he holds it over your head that you have no ring. Oh yes because when he can't win basketball KUBOTA argument with me because he on a thing about basketball to Lord it over you. Every time we have a disagreement over basketball. I'm winning a battle. Yeah yeah no he's funded. Oh He's great to work with. He is really funny. He's a funny guy he's a good guy he's he is. Sometimes I feel bad for him because I've been in situations with shack where he so big. It's almost like he just has to go in a corner. 'cause people people go to him and they swarm around him and sometimes I can feel like he just must be getting uncomfortable with all that and he. It's hard for him to disappear. Do you know what I mean. And what are they can they disappeared on TV with them. To settlers in the commercial the guy got more commercials the interpersonal.

"In and Sonia's this crying crying. She's laughing so hard tears coming. Here's the thing here's the thing I remember once I did the same thing too. I said come on Charles Charles. I could do it I could do it and this is when we were at this place that gets no pub. Nope no pub. And you've put one hand on me shoved me and I went flying and you weren't even trying but you just move me like I was a a kitten in hurricane. It's a very physical game is it. Yeah it's a very physical game. Okay okay I mean even today when you can barely touch people still very physically demanding. I mean guys big these guys the big and strong. Yeah and I still think I could do it. I still think I could be a four so limitless. Hey don't quit your job to try to make it an MBA. So you know what you you famously used your whole well buddy you used your whole body when you were underneath boards and you were in and your technique that you've talked about a alive. Was You want to use your but yeah Ted talk about that. Well I use my but in my line of work as well in a different way home. mm-hmm well six four six five. Everybody you play against a lot taller than you So one way to minimize their hi and Javelin has always be putting your ass on them. Begging their bodies could Clinton nobody can jump as high when you hit them right. They could jump as fast. I saw as religious about just common sense. Like if I'm planning a guy who's sixteen. He's taller than me. He probably got out jumped me but if I got my ass or my body on him the entire time I can negate a lot of his size you rush it a man and try and get your bottom. Oh no the bottom not rush. You just have to stand close to him because you don't want to give him an opportunity to get out of the way so you stand in close to them and then when the shot goes goes up you put your butt on him put on him. This is the stuff that I've been yelled at on the subway for doing. You know I try to create a little space on the subway or on the bus. I like to create a little space so I like to move my junk around a little bit to create a zone called the cones. Just my two hundred thousand not much of his own as much more like Zo. So he's not taking up much space not the whole no. It's not. You're not taking up a whole zone taking up Azzaro right. Not that I can look at your as it. Probably not that big I have no. I've I've been told by the best the very best that I have no ass. Okay See. That's that's an duct tape to this seat right now. A two hundred pound guy with no ads is going to have a tough time in the NBA. I have a lot of spirit and spunk. Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah. That's what all the ugly people say. Or what does it take back. You know just to be competent man. You might wait. It depends on who you all got on the show. Well we had had Kobe Bryant and now we have you so I know Kobe whale He presidency anything. That was earth shattering other. I love Kobe. Bryant he's one degrees of A. Do you gotTa admit he board of Sales. What guests would you want to listen? Listen to guess what gets you to subscribe. We'll see wait so you're only doing basketball people anybody anything. Well you know Eminem all that stuff. That's why would not okay. That's snoop dog. He's already on our shortlist. He doesn't know it yet but the two guys that I'd really be interested. Listen to what they had to say because you know I think I think a lot of times people don't realize what guy doing on the side I mean like I I love talking about politics you know I love talking about different things. I don't like talking to I five to get sick of talking about basketball how to do it every single day. We'll part of our show is about bigger than in sports like our. Our purpose is to go in depth with the people the people behind the people their craft. What their their joys everything their struggles goals are in life and so for us? We would love people to get to know you because like you said you get on and you talk basketball the time and everybody loves me for for it. But I don't really think people understand how great of a guy you are an kristen and I know firsthand so we'd like to talk about a little bit about your upbringing in your childhood. The people behind you You know I grew up in a small town in Alabama lead is about twenty thirty minutes. Outside of Birmingham started out in the projects if I had a great mother and grandmother. My mother was a made. My grandmother worked in the meat packing factory and they did amazing. 'cause I had three brothers. Two of my brothers have passed away. I got one brother lip and four four nieces. I always look forward to going to my hometown. Because you know I actually think it just helped me because I feel bad for some kids who grew open Chicago a New York all the crap they have to deal with. You know they got all the violence around You know like growing up in big excited does a lot of stuff going on but going up in my little hometown. I never worried about violence. Sports were a big big deal. Even when I sucked at sports they were still a big deal. Because you know when you're in a little small town like that all yourselfer esteem is really dictated by how good your high school teams are. It's true so we have success in basketball and football It was a really big deal. Deal and the whole city revolved around every Friday. It was automatic. We were going to football game if they were home and every every home game in basketball it was packed. We always had a good team in both sports. We always had a good team Because 'cause guys They looked at that as a way to get out of that environment. You know I told guys. I first started playing basketball. I had no. Why did that I was going to have a play in NBA? But I was I used to say to myself I just want to go to college for free and Charles. candace had the idea Yesterday the day before perhaps that we called our dads and ask them their memories of your playing career and when they knew that you could be one of the greatest of all time. I know that you know my dad. And I know that you know that. He grew up in Alabama as well and when he was talking to me on the phone. He told me that the reason season he played basketball is because he knew he'd be given a free pair of shoes every season and he knew he could wear those shoes to school as well. What drew you to the game and perhaps even away from sport like football where maybe you were even a little bit more built for well? First of all Grown up poor. I got one pair of shoes of the season and my mom would bring him to the game and then she would come and get them out of the game. They have to last me the whole season i. I didn't get to wear them until after the season. Once it was over I started doing some illegal things to be honest with you guys and I just didn't I feel like I was stealing no reason And I just like hey dude the road I wanna go down and I let me played basketball. I played football one day. I realized they would damn nuts. I feel people all the time I remember. The last Beta coach said to me. He said I'll see you. Tomorrow almost broke my neck turning my shoulders around thinking like you take a do this stuff tomorrow. There's a reason football and boxing. MMA see favorite sports because I take it takes tremendous courage to do either but I play football at one day and I realized like I'm not built for this one day. Where did your nasty come from because Oh you did have this me against the world kind of attitude while playing? Well you know that was some personal stupidity on my part There was a couple of things. So do you know nobody thought I was GonNa be a good basketball and I wasn't very good in the beginning but then when I grew from five ten to six five in one year I got really good at basketball all and I was angry at my dad for not being there I was angry is teaching the MS Gomez. Because I flunked Spanish and then get the march and probably the most traumatic thing with me. I actually went next door to the baseball stadium and watch the entire graduation and are crossed the entire time then that night. I said. Hey I'm never gonNa let anybody else control my deathly from that point on so I say I was mad at my dad. I've met him Gomez and every time I stepped on on a basketball court all I thought about sticking to everybody who had never read always wrong me my entire life and I played really you. You say two nations. I played angry and it wasn't until the spin incident in New Jersey but was the turning point for me. You know I got suspended rightfully so doing something stupid and I was sitting in the room by myself. I feel like such a loser and I had to sit back. Why you so angry? I'm like living America's dream. I mean. You'll young kid making a gazillion dollars. Why are you on happy player? Stupid game like basketball. And I had to sit back as man- lists and it didn't work out between your mom and dad let that go out and I flunked Spanish because I flunked the exam. It wasn't Mrs Gomez felt like every time I stepped on the court I would just angry and then when I was sitting at hotel that night as hey you know what just play basketball to be greeted basketball. Don't be mad at and just play basketball about be great because if you go back and you look aspersions on other people you look at Dennis Rodman or Mike. Tyson Ron artest Metta world peace. If you play a sport angry is not a matter if you cross the line. It's just a matter of win and I had to really take a step back and say hey man just play basketball to be good. Would it basketball. So that's what my tenafly came from. But I had to re ring ring it in but I was out of control of my i. I was mad and I will try every time I went to play a game. I was like this. Everybody would ever wrong me in my life. I was trying to get them and I had to grow up and get it together. We'll Chuck Kristen. And I we know you as the generous man that you are in the sense of whenever we're anywhere you're always at the bar and You keep the tab open and we have fun and we drink sometimes a little bit too much and I have you to think. Think for twenty pounds. I first of all she rubble because she showed up to training exactly my first time in my life so I have to think I'm for that. But what you Number One guy one time while he robbed a bank. He says that's what they keep the money the reason I'm always at a bar. That's what they keep the alcohol. I learned that in my rookie season at Turner that yeah you know more times than not I was. I was there with you when it was closing down. I learned mistake. You say you walk. Walkabout make no bones. I like to drink and you say I like to drink. I do and I haven't lost me to tell you I've been practicing with a lot longer than you had a fair point. I've been priming alive. Still a young kid compared to me. ooh practicing a lot longer at the drinking theme. I learned a valuable lesson as did as kristen but getting back to that. Just Oh oh no. We're not GONNA do it. We're not GONNA do it. I know you're going to I know I know you're going to New Orleans. I'm going to be the peacemaker. I'm Ben Simmons. I'm putting putting chuck and lock on chokehold. Either or we're calling the chokehold now the because if you know so funny like we have so much fun on the show last week talking about a fight I says. Hey maybe I'm a must be getting old. They they can fight. You're supposed to throw punches. I mean I don't think technically when the smuggling each hold each other tight that can technically be pike. What here's my question to you? What is one altercation slash? Fight that you've been a part of or seen in been like okay. That's right because you tend to to to destroy these things off up to five of the one with Dr J. and Moses Malone and Larry Bird and I'm still mad to this day that the NBA on me. Because I was actually trying to play peacemaker what I didn't know when I was holding elaborate doctor Jay was punched him in the head and I'm not lying even to this day. I'm still piss. They they find me. I would never hold a man and let another man. Even if he's a teammate or enemy or whatever I would never hold a man and let another man him. I just had to be standing beside Larry Bird when the fight I just grabbed him. I didn't see the tape until later that while I was holding him. Dr Crockett him in the head. Like five or six times. Well we'll chuck WHO's a guy in the NBA that you don't think anybody would wanNA WANNA fight like who's the office. Is there anybody that you think is legit. I don't think anybody's GonNa be messing with Russell. WESTBROOK's that's true Batman Adman. He's one of the players are really respect and admire and he's one guy you know somebody asked me recently I was doing some like could with any NBA player. Play pro football. I says I'm not sure you're 'CAUSE IT takes a certain amount and then I said Russell Westbrook and play like any sport do is. It's a machine. I might have to put Leonard on that. I don't know of physician he'd play. That guy is a natural he is I call them the south born he's unbelievable. Hey listen these guys I mean all of everybody. NBA You got talent. Everybody has got talent but like it takes a special person.

Charles Barkley's Warriors Prediction Was Extremely Wrong

"We promised to Charles Barkley last Thursday and today, we deliver, let's welcome back NBA on TNT analyst, early member of the ball brotherhood, and EMMY award winner ten fifteen times Charles Barkley because we love you. We're going to play a small clip here when Kevin Durant got hurt. You had some interesting comments, you won't see it, but you'll hear it 'til we play those, please. They're not going to be two rockets without K D, And they're not going to be Portland or Denver. Dow K where we all right. So because again, we love you, what have you got to save yourself, as they have moved on. Well, listen, nothing but kudos, first of all I was one hundred percent wrong, but kudos to the Golden State Warriors, and the two things strike me. Steph curry is put his name back in the conversation. Tony, we talk about the best players in the world. We took it. We talk about Katie Janas Kawai. Lebron Steph covers proven re he's the two time MVP he's been fabulous. But I wanna give shut up to Steve Kerr and his coaching staff because they got guys on the bench who have come into game going back to game six against Houston, and played fabulous. And that's the coaching staff. It lets me know when they're not playing games. They're working with those young players. So though, to two things that stood out to me doing this four game winning streak against the blazers and being the rockets in game, six Charles, you liked Portland, all year. A year. And even this week, they had double digit leads in the last three games. I mean, clearly they weren't scared the warriors, but they couldn't close. What did you see? Why couldn't they close any of those games out? Mike. I'm not gonna watch. I was very disappointed the trailblazers. I picked him to get to the finals to have three double digits lose lease and lose those games that can't happen, but was more disconcerting to me dim getting swept. You know, one thing, I'm very proud of I never got swept in a four-game series. You gotta have guys on your team. At least one guys that we're not gonna get swept. You can lose the series. But you can never give swept that tells me some stuff going on, they're not mentally tough enough Charles you. And I of course are here in Toronto for tonight's game four with bucks. And raptors can you see for a second straight game? Toronto's defense with all that double teaming ill led by Leonard keeping Janas having a mediocre game again tonight. Do you see it happening again? Well, I think it's going to be interested in night because of the double overtime game Kawai looks like he's a little injured to me to raptors. Do not have the depth to complete compete with the bucks. I think is going to be very interesting. How they come back physically from a double overtime game. I really want to run toe to win the game tonight. I would love to see a six seven game series to sit on this over out west of amendment. Walk is going to be tough to beat 'cause they got in my opinion.

Kerr calls Currys NBA royalty ahead of West finals

"Finals? We will see Kevin Durant to start the series. We will see Steph curry and the warriors facing off against Steph curry and the blazers Steve Kerr calling the curry family. NBA royalty quote, what a great story says their parents Dell and Sonya. Must be having the time of their lives. Although he says they'll certainly be conflicted over the next couple of weeks as for the series, and what we can expect ESPN analyst Legler, Golden State has more guys that can jump out and guard switch and guard little McCollum, then Portland has to guard their key. And that's what it comes down through for me. So I give the edge to Golden State. But absolutely think that Portland's going to be in this series. They're going to be in these games. How long it lasts? I don't know. And if Portland steal one out of two they're so good at home. Maybe this becomes a different story if they can get one of those first two games. There's no question in my mind, they can play with them for their super confident right now that they can battle in the way they're backwards. Play many believed the rockets were the big test for the warriors in this postseason. But it's the blazers out standing in the way of Golden State, the guys PTI, I look at Portland as legitimate team. Kevin is not gonna play game on. I don't wanna play games. I'll be does the series. Here's if even strength. This is what I would say to you that what Portland is very good at Golden State is great at and that's the difference. But if Kevin Durant does not not one game. Now play the whole deal Portland can win are different Charles Barkley on this show and his show and other shows. Charleston goes. I said what? Now. I'm sorry. Did you hear me Portas coming out of the west? State how compelling series, and we're gonna talk about Golden State gonna pick Golden State because of what I just saw him to Portland Tony is an irresistible team. They're so likeable. I know you're going to underestimate them because. Yeah. Spent the whole spring telling people you've never seen them. Interesting Denver and get your I ninety five dollar and to underestimate them. I'm going status cheddar, that's respect. Now. What spec them specked on your name? And whether or not you respect them. There are those roar projecting forward to a warriors bucks match, the NBA finals or max Kellerman on first takes us, perhaps we should pump the breaks out K D still favorites. I think they're gonna win the series, but without K D. It's it's tipped much more into a balanced series. This series is really this is the head like just as the east. It's now it's a wide versus the freak. Who's the best player in the world? This is which team has the best back court. Right. The champion Houston. We saw that. Sorry with chips on the line. That's not the best backward. They got out plead by the back court the reigning champs. Golden State Warriors. Splash brothers. Stephan. Clay over we got a new number one contender Stephen and the new number one contender is the Portland Trail Blazers Damian Lillard and CJ McComb. That's the number one contender to the throne. That is not so lopsided. You said Damian Lillard deserves to be all NBA overstep this year. Just saw this performance. CJ put on that's a worthy adversary for Klay Thompson bad man that let's look where the where the vulnerable without K do their best defender nowadays, by the way. What are they? You have a big who can play while. They don't have. Turkish hold on timeout. A second house Kanter on offense. And he wants it house Zach Collins, and he wants it wherever you look on Portland. Not only do you have a guy who can play. But you have a guy who plays with heart. We see the difference. These guys play with heart. They match up decently in many respects with Golden State. They can kind of do if not neutralize Golden State does do things some of the same things that Golden State does. One of the Western Conference finals here on ESPN radio. Latest airport ransomware attack highlights how cybercriminals hold data hostage

"This past week Cleveland's airport began to recover from a computer attack that took down its flight information, baggage displays and it's Email. The FBI says it was another ransomware attack on a sensitive government network, ransomware locks up victims files until ransom is paid more. And more critical public service networks are the targets before Cleveland. The city governments of Newark, Atlanta, and Sarasota were hit and San Francisco's transit authority. The Colorado department of transportation and the port of San Diego today. Twenty six percent of cities and counties say they fend off an attack on their networks every hour, perhaps even worse. Dozens of hospitals have been held hostage across the country. In January twenty eight teen the night shift at Hancock regional hospital watched its computers crash with deepest apologies. The one hundred bed facility in the suburbs. Of indianapolis. Got it CEO Steve long out of bed. We had never been through this before. And it's something that I read in the journals. And I say, oh, those poor folks. I'm glad that's never going to happen to us. But when you come in, and you see that the files on your computer have been renamed in all of the files were renamed either. We apologize for files or were sorry. And there was a moment when I thought, well, maybe they're not so bad. They said they were sorry. But in fact, they had encrypted every file that we had on our computers and on the network. Well, the as we've said still had long told nine one one to divert emergency patients to a hospital twenty miles away. His staff turned to pen and paper. Nothing electron. It could be trusted. This is a ransomware. So this is a virus that has gotten. To the computer system. Would it have the ability to jump to a piece of clinical equipment could have jumped to an IV pump could have jumped to a ventilator we needed a little time just to make sure about that time was a luxury not offered in the ransom demand. Your network has been encrypted if you would like to purchase the decryption keys you have seven days to do. So or your network vials? We'll be permanently deleted. And then it gave us the the amount that we would need to pay to get that back and that came to about fifty five thousand dollars that was the same price demanded of the city of Leeds Alabama three weeks after Hancock hospital near David Miller was surprised his town of twelve thousand would be a target not much to notice in. It's at least not since Charles Barkley graduated from the high school. I didn't know that this Mauer attack was actually a ransomware attack soon as we've found that out that took it to the different level. How do you make? Well, it was. Going to cost us money white the hospital. The city of Leeds was cast back into the age of paper. No, Email, no access to its personnel files or financial systems can all companies and local governments expect to be attacked. I think everyone should expect to be attacked the FBI's might Chris man says cyber-crooks, no governments in hospitals are likely to pay because they can't afford not to until his recent promotion Christmas was in charge of the FBI's cybercrime unit. You're waiting for the day that somebody says we have the nine one one system held hostage in a major city, and we need ten million dollars today. I hope that day never comes. But I think we should prepare for that possibility. Crispin says in twenty seventeen seventeen hundred six cesspool rent somewhere attacks were reported. But he figures that's less than half more. Most businesses. He says would rather pay in admit they were hacked on the wear of one ransomware variant that affected all fifty states that had some thirty million dollars in losses and over six million dollars in ransom payments. I would tell you that the losses are very significant and easily approach one hundred million dollars or more just in the United States that ransomware variant. He's talking about is the one that held handcock hospital hostage. It's cold Samson. After one of its file names experts told Steve long Sam Sam is unbreakable. There was nothing that we could do to unlock those files are only choice was to wipe the system and hope that we had backups or to purchase the decryption keys to pay the rent. Indeed. That is exactly what that means. But Sam Sam had infected the hospitals back-up files, the FBI adv-. Vise long not to pay. But after two days after his staff filled out ten thousand pieces of paper, he paid the ransom. The crooks demanded digital money known as bitcoin ransomware is possible only because bitcoin is so difficult to trace mayor Miller held out two weeks before he paid his bitcoin ranson after a little bargaining at the said to grit my teeth and realized that this was a business decision. And that was the way to do it. So they asked for sixty and you paid eight how did you get there? Well, I agree and

Speaking of forward, which I don't think we can ever move forward from the back up. This scarring that occurs to anybody who watches you swing a golf club. It is. No, you can't unseeded this and it for anybody listening or watching. I'm just telling you just go to YouTube or whatever in type in Charles Barkley Gulf swing? It is Chuck I love you. But this is the most fucking embarrassing thing. I have ever what why do you stop as mental? No, I've heard I've heard I don't know if it's true that on the range, you don't stop. There's no pressure on a range with with the pressure at a charity golf tournament with no money on the line. Mentally, what the same reason? St. Sasken throw the ball to seco- bait. Ball first base Mackey Sasser control the ball back to the pitcher. Like is not that. He's saying he's not scientists of the reason. Ian Baker Fritz quick Gulf. He hit the fairway hit a hundred dollars per. I think he hit the maintenance shed. Yeah. When like you're not thinking about it. When it happens on a guaranteed got one and British Open. He's not standing on the balls that. I'm gonna hit this ball in the maintenance shed. And then something is happening. Does disconnect does a disconnect in there? Mentally, I I can I hear you. I just don't understand. You are an athlete that his the hand eye coordination. All it is a round lucky because you never lost it. Mentally like sports are so mental. Like like, I say, it is never have affected upon me in any other thing. But I've seen it happen to other jobs, and unfortunately, and I don't even look at it. Unfortunately, it's a man as long as I can drink. Somebody's smokes some cigars and get some peace and quiet. I'm all right with the golf thing. Like, what are like the play great Gulf or better go, of course, I would. But it's not have it has nothing to do with my livelihood. I feel bad for guys who their goal in life to play on a PGA tour and they're not good enough. They developed a year ups and things like that. Like for me. If I go out and suck at golf. I'm a drink. Plenty of beer, I'm gonna smoke my two cigars per nine. And then we'll get back to reality gamble on the golf course not not as much as I used to when I was what was what was the game. What was because we gamble on the golf course. Yeah. The time in the day. What was the game? What game to play on the Gulf wars? I mean in terms of game and both sides played for is sh. Probably three to five thousand dollars per whole. No, no, no sort of like a stroke play match play. Call it wolf. No. We bet on everything. Side action with action birdie MAC bird is of course. Yeah. You gotta reward about if a making a bird hammers. Yes, we play all options. Well, listen one thing about golf. It's funny. You gotta budget has bins who still think the Charles Barkley guys like that by name is on the Charles Barkley. There's no reason I should be playing golf for money. But oughta guys because there'd be greatest wars you to have an ego. To be good at golf, look good at sports. You have to have an ego. And unfortunately, sometime guys bet what the ego instead of the golf class when I do, and I I never like in the day..

"We're talking about the star in helmet man, who right, but you know, manage it. But that's why I tell people's ports are important are the most important thing in the world. No, right. But they are very important yet. What is it like growing up, by the way? I have. No, what leads Alabama's somewhere outside of Birmingham. So. What is that? Like, how many people there thousand how many people in your senior class one hundred ten to fifteen okay? In one cool thing about my hometown. Is you go K to twelve together? Right. So it's so small like the people at the person, I want the first grade with a graduate from high school with so, you know, everybody. Yeah. So like when I go back to lease. Now, I see all the kids. And then like, you know, my dad, I'm like, well, she dad, oh, I do know your dad, like I say, you know, a lot of people want to go to different schools, people come and go. But when you so K through twelve with somebody is, you know, everything about them pretty much. Yeah. You do. And then nobody moves. Nobody move. Yeah. Negative. I agree. Yeah. Because one of the things that I've tried to do not bragging on myself. I've given you go ahead. I've given a couple of million dollars to my high school so poor kids could go to college. If they should definitely tell them if they want to stay in lease which I don't mean that in a negative way out of wanting to stay in Leeds. I mean, I want them to grow up and be Charles Barkley last Armstrong, President Clinton's from a small town smaller than lease Hope, Arkansas. But you don't know what you can accomplish. Until you put yourself in the situation where you can be successful. And as I was reading your story of growing up in Leeds. I think back up I think people assume you're six six now, you are who you are hall of Famer, etc. People just assume that when you were in the second grade, you were tall and the fifth grade you were tall. And when you were in the ninth grade you were. Is it true that as a junior in high school, you were five foot ten two hundred and twenty pounds? Because you know, it came out later how? Who is this kid from Alabama who nobody recruited Alabama Auburn UAB because I went from five ten to six five in one year right over the summer. I read over the smoke, and by the way that would hurt, you know, I never felt that type of pain though, people asked to have asked me that before I would think, but let me tell you something though. It was a shock to everybody system. It was a shock to everybody everybody system, and it goes to show you though basketball. It was it changed my life because at that point. I wouldn't think about NBA. I never thought I was good enough to plan to NBA. Hang on is junior five ten two hundred twenty pounds. You didn't even make the team. No. I was a backup fat point guard at that point. But when I got to six five and a half all here, bro. Glue, watch out mother. Yes. I would it was so and I played like everybody who had made not really made fun with your bench warm or you're not good enough to make the team. I was wreaking havoc. Go near asked to. You know, because you know, 'cause 'cause in my hometown that's one thing about being for small towns pool is a big deal, football and basketball a big deal in my hometown. And when I finally got my chance to shine. I was ready for it..

"You could download it everywhere. You could download stuff. We're trying to get a project off the ground here with the digital pod. Cast network. That's going to grow over the next six months in a year with some fun stuff. And we need your help. So support the stuff we're doing jemele hill. It's a fascinating conversation humanizing. And I think many of you will enjoy it. No matter your politics. No matter your biases. Now. This man is very polarizing has been all his life. But I've always liked who he is. And what he represents. I've talked about many things with Charles Barkley over. The years basketball is not one of the things I enjoyed talking about with him on the radio. But things like what he did. I don't know if you read about this. There was a viral story about his friend Lin Wang. He just met a random person and was very kind to them and spoke at the funeral and became friends with a random person, and that Lin Wang his son wrote the story about it and people were deeply moved. Here's what I'm here to tell you. I have never in my history knowing anyone in sports or fame, and he learned this from Moses Malone, Dr J, I have never met anyone who was better to people better with anyone like the smallest of people. Than Charles Barkley. And so I don't think this story is even that unique for Charles Barkley. It's unique for us. But I don't think what he did. Here is unique for Charles Barkley low. Second may Charles how does that work always making it about himself scouts is very good. At that. How you still looking at pictures of of your face on t shirts is this an odd story for you. Or is it your life? You you make connections with people. First of all, I want to say one thing I was watching how request the other day, you know, other partner in a refuse by something to show after you highly questionable. The next time. Your bag is a tennis ball stuck in please. Let me be the one who get it. Oh for the love of God, Charles Charles. I said something so nice to you. I sat there. Your day. I get a tennis ball sucker. Thank you could say that Charles twice. I mean. You're not allowed to say that stop saying that Charles you're going to get us in trouble. You're going to get us, and we don't need to be having troubled around here today. Stop saying stuck in anything. All right, ready. Limitation of been that was such a I didn't know, I didn't know the daughter Shirley's one. Let me. And. I've never got a response about anything I've ever done. Like that story almost it was really awesome. I hope people learn number one about land because he was an amazing man on. But like I say in over thirty years and the ad never gotten a response to anything. I did like I got about that story. But explain this to the listeners because I've seen you do it Charles, you, you, you physically touch people and you emotionally touch people. I don't think it's a big surprise the Charles Barkley. I know it's not a big surprise that we'd fly anywhere for someone's funeral like for for anyone's Uniroyal. Well, I think we make a lot of money to play basketball. But that's only a small portion of it anytime somebody in sometimes they are paying when you're trying to eat Downer. Or you what your family any person who comes up to talk to me? I'm gonna get them at time. They learn that Dr J he says we don't get paid just to play. Basketball. You don't make my day. You didn't make three to four million dollars. Just to play basketball. You're supposed to be called you to the fans is opposed to sign autographs, and you're supposed to take pictures, and I've never met it about in my life. Who was better Dr J, and he was one of the first lent. He said, hey, you got to be these your fans because do take on sign autographs, take pictures and. To evade band inactive since congress. There's an I mean always do that anybody take the time to come say Hello to me shake their head..

"This is the Dan lebatardshow with this to spot casts. So Charles Barkley was on yet up and he says the fixes in Anthony Davis to the Laker says it is not good for the league. But the fixes in. It seems pretty odd to God's that. Lebron James is counter chess move on. Kevin Durant is let me see if I can do this through my agency. Right. I mean, there are no other moves for him to make right? He leaves Certa powerful thing that have. But he surveyed the landscape of what his choices were this off season. And there were not a lot of great choices. So let me go do this big famous thing over here. See if I could just be great and see if we can figure out how to build it as we go. And then you hear that Anthony Davis goes to Rich Paul I believe LeBron James met Rich Paul in an airport. I believe Phil Jackson called him the posse because he thinks of Rich Paul as a friend or a hanger on instead of a businessman. He is a businessman who was also a friend and a hanger on. He could be both. He could be all of those things and through LeBron James, he has a legitimate client business in the NBA with power and percentages that he did not have if not for LeBron James. He would not have if not for LeBron James because that business is the worst. It is. Cutthroat it would swallow Stu gods gods as an assess that's one business. I never wanted to get into. It's awful I'd lose. And I think that most people are in agreement with that the idea that Anthony Davis will end up a Laker. I think more people are in agreement with that. Then are with the idea of it would not be good for the league. You guys think it would not be good for the league to have another sort of super team. Oh at this point. I'm convinced. It's good for the league. I think the league loves us. I mean, the fans love this. They love the interaction. They love the off the court stuff and they love seeing these super teams play. So now, I think it'd be I think it'd be great for the league. It's tricky though. Because if you're the pelicans, and you're looking at this you said to yourself because you got a year and a half left. Like, hey, we'd better trade them. If you believe this when you're the now, but you gotta talk to man, you got this is the importance of relationships. Do these things matter. No, no, I often gentry was hired to I understand what you're saying. Right. I understand what you're saying. But when there are human relationships involve you work with people all the time. It's not sort of like the pelicans would trade him without talking to him or knowing where he stands right now. If they knew for sure right now that he was gone. Of course, they would open trade talks right now, they don't know that. But these teams keep getting blindsided by that. Honestly, that's the way these guys are doing it. Even though the fans don't like it very much right camello, Anthony coli Leonard Jimmy Butler the way that they're doing. It is the best way to do it. They all learned that Carmelo did it the wrong way. Carmelo tried to be quiet tried to tell management get me out of here. And they were forced to trade all of the the Knicks to Denver for Carmelo. Lebron? Did it right? Carmelo did it wrong and people following the way Carmelo did it. So if they want out they'll tell their organization a year out, and then everyone knows they want out. And then you try and get what you can better though. Carmelo behind the scenes was telling him it was not publicly known that Carmelo wanted out of there. It was he was able to keep that private funny enough. That's the wrong way to do..
