Fresh update on "chargers" discussed on The Rich Eisen Show

"Three months into the NFL season already. Wow, time flies. And here's a craziest thing, okay? Thursday, Thanksgiving football. There were three games, two of them featured both teams with 500 of better records, giants cowboys, Vikings hosting the Patriots, all four of those teams with records better than 500 going into the game. Sunday, week 12 Sunday of the season coming up here in a couple of days. game on this schedule that features both teams with 500 or better records. How crazy is that? The only game is the Tennessee Titans at 7 and three hosting the 6 and four Cincinnati Bengals. That's it. Every other game features at least one team that's under 500. Buccaneers browns, browns under 500. Dolphins hosting the Texans. You know who stinks? Bears jets, falcons commanders. That's close falcons are falcons are 5 and 6 commanders of 6 and 5. Panthers Broncos, terrible matchup ravens at the Jags, chargers cardinals, raiders, seahawks, rams, chiefs who thought the rams would be this bad, the three and 7. As Super Bowl defending champions, forty-niners hosting the saints and the packers at the eagles in the packers are crap. So there you have it. Literally one game on the schedule this Sunday features both teams with 500 or better records. That's crazy. But that kind of just highlights the underlying problem this year in the NFL. And that is pretty much most of the divisions in football stink. Okay? Stink. Start out in the AFC clearly the AFC east is far and away the best division in the AFC every single one of the four teams has a record above 500 every single one of the four teams has a point differential that's positive. There's no other division in football that can say that. That's pretty good, by the way. Bills, dolphins, jets patriots, okay? And before the season, we were talking about the AFC west with all the chiefs and the improved trumpers. I won't call him the Chargers. And the Broncos new coach and the Broncos with Russell Wilson and then the Raiders who the Raiders who made the playoffs last year, they were supposed to be improved. And all of them suck except for the chiefs. Right, they got themselves a number one receiver one of the best in football. Maybe the best in devonta Adams, and they stink. They have seen north, you know, the ravens and the Bengals, but the browns are supposed to be good. The Steelers are supposed to at least be half decent. That hasn't worked out. The south is utter trash. You have the Titans and pass the Titans, what colts stink. Jaguar stink, the Texans are vying for the first overall pick in the draft, and by the way, that lovely Smith press conference was golden, okay? Absolutely golden. When people are asking about like, well, nothing's working. Why aren't you making adjustments? And he's like, well, I'm not making them right now. I don't just make it to make them. Love you, Smith. He's like a great defensive mind. He's never been a very good head coach. Yes, he led the bears to a Super Bowl. I understand, but besides that one year, I just haven't been really good. It was terrible in college, right? I mean, I didn't think that was a great hire. And it's kind of coming out that it wasn't. The west as you mentioned literally just one team over 500. That's the chiefs. And if you're a charger fan, you start to wonder, are you gonna win anything with Brandon staley as a head coach? Or do you have to go in a different direction? Because there's no reason why that team's 5 and hive, you know, 5 and 5, and they just, you know, can't put together winning streaks. Justin Herbert's legit, you wonder is it the coach? And I will go with the coach. Broncos are a mess. There's no worse coach in the NFL than Nathaniel Hackett should have been fired already. Right? At some point, if you're the one family you spend $4.65 billion to buy that team, what's another like 20 million to pay them to go away? At some point you have to just say, look, we made a mistake, it was a dumb hire. It didn't work. And it's not even worth going the entire year to realize it was a bad hire. Like just go away, go in a different direction. And the Raiders are mind boggling because I don't know. Is it Josh McDaniels? Is he the reason why? Because I drank the Kool-Aid for Josh McDaniels. Yes, he was young when he went to Denver. He was arrogant. It didn't work out. But other coaches have had redemption stories after their first job not working out, right? Belichick is kind to turn it around from his Cleveland Brown stint, although if you look back now, an art hindsight is 2020, he actually was pretty good with the browns. He led them to the playoffs, and then there was like a 25 year drought of them going nowhere, right? So like Belichick probably wasn't the problem there. They probably should have kept him around. Yeah, absolutely. So I don't know. Is it Josh McDaniels and, you know, is this the second stint where you just realized, yeah, he's just nothing more than a guy that can do well with Belichick. Well, unfortunately, the readers can not get rid of them because they can't keep paying for ex coaches. How many are on the payroll right now? I think three? I don't know. Are they still paying art shell? Like what happens? Oh my God. Well, that's the thing. I mean, they're paying Gruden still, right? What 10 million a year or something?

Mark Morgan on What It's Like to Be a Border Patrol Agent Under Biden

"Ask you, Mark, because I know you still continue to spend a lot of time on the border. The agents down there love you, Tom Holman, Ken cuccinelli, these guys that are still, we're working for Trump, still working for America today on their own time to try to push this country in the right direction, get this immigration system under control. You were just down on the border. Can you tell me what it is like for the men and women working the line, can they even work the line? Or I've called them welcome patrol. And I don't mean the besmirch that they're good name. I know they're law enforcement officers, but it seems to me that's all they are now. Welcome patrol, not border patrol. Grant, you're right, and you're not dispersing them actually. I've seen a coin. That's virtual seal on it on the back. It said, welcome, welcoming patrol. It was done by motorcycle agent. That's just a manifestation of their frustration. Look, it was a couple of months ago where a border charger reached out to me and said, look, he was getting ready for morning like he has every morning for the past 26 years. He was very proud to be a board of foliage and as he looked up in the mirror to finish scoring away his uniform. He said he realized for the first time that he's now the part of the largest world's world's largest smuggling organization that's out there. And for the first time, he was not proud to be a member of the organization he served for 26 years and not because it's anything that they've done is because of this administration's policies that are not allow them to do their job. "Hi, Todd. Well, I just think that as being that they deported these poor people. That maybe what was said, the people sent were in divers enough. So maybe we ought to send about 250 and plan them right in front of Barack Obama's house, with that big piece of property he should take care of him. Yeah, look, there was there was somebody from Martha's Vineyard. I want to play some audio for you web. This lady was, I believe, in charger is in charge of the homeless department there on the island. Let's take a listen. What are the most difficult challenges right now? The difficult challenges are. We have, at some point in time, they have to move from somewhere else. We can not, we don't have the services to take care of 50 immigrants and we certainly don't have housing. We're in a housing crisis as we are on this island and to do it. We can't house everyone here that lives here and works here. We don't have housing for 50 more people. All right, so Webb. Here you go. We've got the housing director there saying we don't have any place to put these 50 people. Web there are dozens and dozens of empty mansions right now on that island. But here's the other thing too. They could set up a tenth city on Barack's 29 acres or better than that web Obama's got ten bedrooms in that multi-million dollar seaside mansion. You'd probably get 5 or 6 apiece in each of the rooms.

Jason Pye and Doug Chat About Alabama's Parole Board

"Board shot down every single case, denying relief to 28 eligible people. Including this man, Michael bettis, he said, he is serving. He has served, hear me, served 12 of 20 year sentence for marijuana possession and distribution. He served 12. He sat at a minimum security work center where they worked him for $2 a day. Turned him down. Now is costing you folks in just to let you know out there. Probably upwards of between 50. I mean, 15 and $30,000 to house him for a year. The older he gets, the more expensive that gets. Okay? This is the part that is really, I think if we emphasize this kind of. Now, I'm not going to go into because again, to get a 12 of 20, it's marijuana possession and distribution. You know how those chargers will work. But there's nothing else here that indicates that the 12 years is not more than sufficient to have him even on supervised probation, whatever it may be. But to get him out. But they turned out all 28 eligible, not a one. I mean, is this the case where honestly the headlines are affecting what should be non attributable boards. I don't know of a better way to put that. I don't want to say partisan because in a way they are, but are political boards. I mean, what would a call something like this? And again, they might come out that there's something you need to, but he wouldn't be now think about this folks. He wouldn't be eligible for parole. If they had to not satisfied everything else in his sentences, taken into his past to get the sentence that he's currently under. It's kind of mind boggling because I think I'm not trying to be mean here. I am from Georgia. But this is Alabama, which is, which is a notoriously tough state when it comes to when it comes to crime. But even Alabama has taken some steps in the right direction when it comes to prison reform. I mean, I remember there was a state I think state senator cam ward there who helped usher through Alabama's prison reforms back in, I don't know, 6, 7, 8 years ago. And that was at the time when DoJ had followed lawsuit over prison conditions in Alabama. But it's unfortunate. And it's frustrating because there had to be one person deserving of some sort of parole who they

"And people are surprised when this happens all the time, but you look at guys like Josh mccown, right? Colt McCoy, who just hang around the league forever and they don't really play, but they're there. That's because they're just valuable resources to have in the room. Hoyer is kind of hit that level. Like you said, teams are going to be worried about what he can do physically. Yeah. It's his value in that room. He's going to be in the league another 5 or 6 years, probably. I don't know. How old is he? That might be a little much, but he's a bold years of the two year deal. His rookies. He's 36. He could play four more years. Wouldn't account play two 40, 41. Right. Exactly. Yeah. All right, so we talked about Brian when we were talking about all these other signings, but obviously the news coming down here and a little bit over an hour ago. The Patriots are without JC Jackson. "It's a long day, all right? A 5 year 82 and a half $1 million deal for JC Jackson with the Los Angeles chargers, getting the bag indeed $40 million guaranteed $26 million signing bonus from the Chargers. Now, on the surface, I understand that people take this deal and they say 82 and a half divided by 5 is only like 16 and a half $1 million per year. That's not that much for JC Jackson, but you have to look at the way that the contract pays him out in the first couple years, $40 million guaranteed in the first two seasons fully. He's getting walking away after the first two years with 40 million bucks. After the third season, he's walking away with $54 million. So I reported earlier today at the best offer I heard the Patriots made around the combine, which JC Jackson corroborated with Phil Perry just now that that is when the Patriots made their offer was a three year $51 million deal. Three years worth a total value of $51 million. So we're getting a little caught up in the APYs. The Patriots were never close to making an offer as big as what the Chargers gave JC Jackson here today. And that right there is just what it all kind of sums it all up. The Patriots were never going to go here, Alex. They were never going to go this big with JC Jackson and he moves on to the Chargers and now the Patriots have some work to do in their secondary. Yeah, you know, and you go back to, if people want to be mad at the team, I don't know that today is what you're mad about. I think if you go back to them, not using them for the franchise tag and either making sure you keep them for one more year or trying to work on that long-term deal. Yeah, no, they've got their work cut out for them. Again, it was something we all thought would happen. They've kind of been behind the 8 ball at cornerback. This is multiple years coming. This isn't just out of nowhere if you're surprised suddenly that they're short a quarter, you really haven't been following along, but this becomes a theme. You know, I published my patriots biggest needs this morning before everything started. I have cornerback listed first. I also have cornerback listed third boundary corner specifically. It's that kind of situation. And we talked about this a little bit before. Darren a spot with Hightower and Bentley also pending free agents, they either have the option to or might have to, depending on how you look at it, overhauled not just their defense personnel, but their defensive scheme..

William Federer Shares the Story of Yale's 8th President Timothy Dwight

"Tell us if you would the story of Timothy Dwight. Right. So the setting is we have a revolution and then France has a revolution. And our revolution was preceded by a great awakening revival. France's revolution was preceded by Voltaire, who mocked Christianity and had a very skeptical viewpoint and undermined morals. And so as a result, the French Revolution became very bloody. And so Timothy Dwight was the president of Yale during this time, and he wrote comments on the difference between our revolution and the French Revolution. In my post on Timothy, why did I go through a little history? Yale, it was founded in 1701. There were ten congregational ministers who sort of felt like Harvard was getting to religious and stodgy. They actually used a term called old lights versus the new lights. And the old life were the religiously strict orthodox, the guys that had their positions and they looked down upon emotional preachers like George whitfield and so forth. The university was originally called the Connecticut collegiate school at killingworth milford, but then they moved to 1716 to New Haven, Connecticut. So the college group, as a result of reverend Jeremiah drummer and he defended the colonial charters against overreaching British Parliament. So the Chargers were given, then you'd have different kings that would want to take away the old charter and consolidated and he would defend them. He secured 700 books for the college's library and solicited donations from many individuals, including the English playwright, Richard Steele, the scientist, Sir Isaac Newton, and he also got contributions from a merchant named elihu

I don't know if it was about pressure Coach tomlin has this saying that. I thought was amazing because it always worked for me. He said i could do certain things. Because i had a lot of deposits into his emotional bank account Nobody on this team has more deposits into mike tomlin's emotional bank account. Then ben rothlisberger right now but now because of that you're stuck in a place of making a decision of do we give up on this season in the first four games and say we're going see what we have in mesa off. Your hopes is at some point that he does get beat up enough to where he has to pull himself or you have to pull him and you can now move on to the future hand. It's tough marcus. Listen mike tomlin summed. Up what i've been talking about man just it. I don't want big being poor. Because i don't think he can throw a twenty or thirty or pass. Oh i don't think he can work on accuracy even though that's been an issue as well. I'm concerned about big band getting injured. He can listen when a coach says a player has no mobility. That's a huge indictment in today's nfl. You gotta explain the people. He's not asking him to run smart safe. That's what i'm about to say in the division with myles garrett and today and clowney in the division where you know. You're not the best team already. And you have deficiencies on your offensive land so beyond the quarterback play right that show area bro. You understand what been doing from from from a qa lean approach. I'm looking at it as a defensive player. And i'm saying to myself we don't eat today like you guys know this. The tape does not lie we can. We can make the assumptions or our opinions. That tape doesn't lie and there's too many misses on tape. They're not good enough on offense and benzon good enough to make up for those misses. These are easy. Completions respectfully to the hall of famer. These are easy. Completions that lead to second long. This is second down. That's easy completion. Lisa third-down fumble. This is second longest. Though that's a touchdown there's to this another miss. Starting twelve hit the completion. You could kick the field goal. This is like this is not my opinion. This is not me making an assumption. This is what the tape shows. You notice a difference of god you know what is a deep the watching it. It's tough to watch me. Meaning there may be a fix boy. yeah i. It's very hard to watch in fact i almost can't watch pittsburgh offense at times to be candid at this point and look i feel like everyone is sort of dancing around the issue and has been afraid to. I don't disrespect ben because he's a whole famer. He's a legend but what about respecting the other guys on the team. Who want to win football games. What about respecting a defense. That should be competing for the playoffs. And frankly ryan you're absolutely right. They did not give themselves. Web options headed into the season. You talk about the emotional bank account of tomlin will benz. Bank account is fine because that's what our campaign so you about respect. He's fine they don't have a lot of good options. We have seen haskins and rudolf. It's not great well. I don't know why they didn't put in a coffin gardner shoe and frankly aren't they should get cam. Newton a call. I know people are gonna be mad at me for saying that. But we saw them in the preseason. He's an upgrade over the product that we're seeing right now broken cam. Newton is not fixing this alternate move. He's not fixing this offense. Dwayne haskins and mason roof. If they're not better than ben where he is right now than they shouldn't be on. The football team candidly one hundred. But listen i cannot imagine them not having some type of mindset to see one of these other guys like based on what you would be you care about him and you know we always got more to saito. It's october and that means it's guy choline wanna know what's really scaring seeing just a much you could have been saving by switching to gyco. They make it easy to bundle your home. "Finally got a win over the saints by the way and over time and facing deafening crowd noise and superdome safe on scored not and daniel jones past career. High four hundred two yards the giant saquon. Barkley piled up one hundred. Twenty six scrimmage yards in sunday's win with a parrot. Tv's including a fifty four yard touchdown catch from daniel jones. On the deep baid saquon not thing or two about breaking off long touchdown since he entered the nfl. Twenty eighteen his eight scrimmage touchdown at least fifty yards are tied with tyreek hill for the second most in the league trailing only derrick henry. He's certainly got some explosiveness. All right it was a rough night. For derek carr on monday night football. He was sat four times uncomfortable throughout the game on monday. At the chargers defense had a ton to do with the discomfort of course and they knew it. Listen to what joey bosa said about getting to cards. Arenas game we knew. Once we hit him a few times he really gets shook and he saw on us pretty much curling and the ball before we even got back there so great players been having a great year but we know once you get pressure on them. He kinda shuts down marcus. He yes absolutely and look. This is every quarterback. No quarterback wants to be hit. No quarterback wants to be under duress but as defensive land we try to see what the clock saying in their mind or they getting rid of the place before we actually get there. And that's what both talking about. Obviously when you got quarterbacks getting hit they become conscious of taking those hits but derek carr seems the bail just a have the second or second earlier than need be and then when you talk about moving throughout the pocket gets almost like a waiting to get hit. I know manipulating the pocket. I know my feet are moving. In the pocket wins the hit coming instead of him continuing to keep his eyes downfield so he can push the ball downfield. That is a tale that quarterbacks do not want because you've got some people that are here this and say yeah but you know they get guys duck all the time and they fall and they take sex those are actual sex. Their cars trying to anticipate the hit and that's joy bose's point now they're down was brutal straining watching this particular game because nothing that joey bosa said was wrong about this game but so far this season before last night part of the reason i was so excited watching derek carr was not just as aggression pushing the ball downfield that is great thrower the football but the athleticism that he showed moving around inside the pocket evading pass rushers and frankly not looking in the way. The marcus is talking about the first three weeks of the season and it felt like last night there was a little bit of aggression the old derek carr it that i don't wanna call fear but it sat avoidance of pressure that is what has separated him in the past from video. Great quarterback just a good quarterback that in a lack of willingness to push the ball downfield. And it's something that if he wants to get back on the track that he was on the first part of the season he needs to be more athletic and more around what are we. He's mad at something. Somebody who was on here and be like derek carr so different from other quarterbacks when he gets pressured he falls. There's a guy that doesn't mega cast for us or whatever. He does with his brother from his basement on monday. Never actually throw. Footballs turn all the way around. The cameroon look at his face and he'd be lighted. And nobody says anything about that guy you why because he had two excellent runs to win the super bowl. Tom manning sorry. Tom brady is a guy who i said publicly when i started to work on tv. He sees sometimes. Tom brady would accept sex. It's about history. The history of tom brady says. That's okay the history of derek. Carr does not. But we can't look at him like he's any different from quarterback you're one hundred percent right but what is different is that the. Nfl itself has changed. This is why we were questioning the drafting of mack. Jones is that the elite quarterbacks in this league largely can move. And i'm not talking about lamar. Jackson can move. I'm talking about the meaning pressure and moving around in the pocket in brady at this point his career he plays behind lead offensive line. That's why those problems anymore. If he didn't like if he played behind. Darren cars offensive line. well you'd be just. He probably would be retired by now. It's probably one of the reasons why it shows the bug. Like i'm gonna go here. There line is really good. Perfecting the game takes more time than learning the rules and a good coach can train you beyond the fundamentals augment strengths. Ben rothlisberger angle for lack of a better way to put it. Let's get to. Mike tomlin today with the latest on ben in the steelers team continuing with the ben questions. He'd the best quarterback for this offense and if so what makes him that way. Absolutely what have you seen on film. That looks fixable from the quarterback position as opposed to just the fact that this guy can't play the same lovely did everything except mobility. I don't have an answer for that or lack there of and You know been used to be able to run really good. When he was young. Those days are behind him other than that. I don't see much. That's not a discussion in. Terms of technical alterations are quality of play that that can be improved. That was interesting. Just right there okay. Rothlisberger has relied on the quick passing game lately because of an ineffective line. He struggled greatly on slower developing plays since the start of last season. Big ben among the worst in the league when taking three or more seconds to throw the ball. The has four touchdowns with even receptions when taking three or more seconds to throw back to last season. Only kirk cousins has more picks in such plays in that time. Yeah dan that graphic matters you right conversation because that's why we have talked about that offensive line offensive line but that graphic would notify the whole. Well he's got to get the ball on his. That speaks to. How many times have you seen him. Take more than thirty seconds to throw the ball over the last two years which also makes life very difficult. Sorry russ zone. Lejos the story. I do think like when you think about how long he holds onto the football and with been overall. What do you make the situation. Rc in pittsburgh as it's a place that utilize their eight seasons with ben plenty..

"It's like all right this time i'll pull back and shoot it to the tyree kill in twelve personnel and let him run down the field the way from everybody. Oh ball fake quick kick it out d'amico hartman that's seven or eight yards nine yards. That's a first down and this the ability to give the ball fake the ball underhand. Throw the ball like it's to your point. The defense is bad but if they keep going on. These methodical drives me and the defense is not going to have to play a ton of snaps. Patrick mahomes is now the best quick game quarterback in the nfl in the best quarterback in the nfl but Just statistically a when he throws the ball in two point five seconds or less he leads the league in every category We were kind of making fun of the eagles little bit because they tried to play me and it didn't work but like what are you supposed to do. You got no point plays zone. You're in conflict. You're dead so rpo's is the best rpo offense in the league right now. And then he played man because they have so many weapons. They can beat you quickly. You don't really have show either. And then you've got a quarterback in mahomes touch and efficient distributor of the football who can also throw it from any angle in any platform again in two point five seconds or less. It's really fascinating to watch I'm excited see how the bills trying to handle this weekend. Not to get ahead of it because it is such an interesting challenge. Defensely i mean you guys watching it. I don't really know what you can do. Given how effective he is getting it out quickly okay. Cpo should mess. So i mean he leads in every category but i like completion percentage over expectations. We've talked about this was so d. Tackle you brought it up. So you can calculate the expected. Completion percentage of every throw based on where the defender is the difficulty of throw. Completion percentage over. That was basically like this. The quarterback exceeded for him to exceed it by twelve percent on those quick throws already definitive. How about this. Think about this. Right can steph curry. Made layups yeah right. You know what happens. He don't shoot a lot of 'em because he could shoot it from half court right. That's when we see with patrick mahomes when you're playing this team you're so worried about defending the part of the field and you understand how explosive this team could be that you give them rather give you this layup so you could get these to hit these three and shoot me all the gym then if you try to stop it. They're going to kill you off play. Actually but that's where that's where those ten plus play drives are coming in. It's the defense's bad but if you continue to allow this team to go methodically marched down. The field march down the field. Don't gonna be on the field. Let me answer the thing. But the thing is saying the locker room is this. Then this is what all good defense assay. If i make you play for make you snap at ten times. They're gonna make him. I can make you make a mistake. What's happening is patrick. Mahomes not making those mistakes and that's why they're killing people proteins reminded me of. How was it middle school like you were. Yeah i was old. My mom would get so. My mom would get these. My mom would get these lettuce from my teachers about how much i was talking in class. We're all right. But then but then so so. The expectation was when the report came out for it to suck. But i like as and bs so my mom would be conflicted. That's the change. We conflicted they too but we know they straight as students business or do we like no. He'd be told what to do. That's what she literally told the teacher offenses you get good grades defense band. You'd be bad right. That's me talking just but the teacher was sitting me outside of the class. Okay you get passed. The test conduct grade. That's bad but my mom like they don't really count cola grades. I don't know what to do. But that's what we are because honestly the chargers should be who we think the best team in this division is but the great teacher. And you're talking too much so we gotta move to the next thing here now. Okay for no guy. Got rachel talk sometimes like you know the rest of the class keeps going and you're still going to talk around the nfl to get to dan carson wentz get his first win as a co what stood out. I made some tough throws in some tough moments. The run game was fantastic in their offensive line was good but some of the throws to mow cox specifically in the second half. We're good tight. Window throws against men coverage one on a beautiful big cross that he back shoulders of one down. Regionals big fella. Just gonna throw this up to you. Go make that big catches up carson. Wentz gotten better and better every week. He's playing good football. They're going to need them to be great right now. He's playing good nina. Speaking of i win. Robert sal got. I first win head coach. Would you see from the jets. A decent defense. I mean this is much about expectations as anything. I would challenge. People to name. Adjusts cornerback before the season. And they logged marcus bay. They locked carl asan decent particular upfront. Quinton williams has been a baller. John franklin myers sheldon. Rankings moseley's back. They're not as bad as we thought and a lot of that probably should be attributed solid. Well marcus back inside the classroom. The bills pitch their second shutout of the season. Defense legit legit. Let's fraser's doing this thing defensive coordinator and two. It's a lot of great makers on this defense. That linebacker mike. A high import on the back end. I know it was a forty to nothing win against the houston. Texas davis meals started so before. Y'all rebuttals come that they also shut out the miami dolphins and that was but the way this offense is playing if the defense can stay consistent and take the ball away this may be. Afc representative rc. So much conversation. The cardinals offense. What about their defense. Listen defense is playing amazing in large part because of jalen thompson and buddha bacon. Everybody know who baker. He's at all pro. He's a pro. Bowler sideline to sideline in the way he plays but now these dudes are interchangeable and they do the one thing that coach lebeau preach to me over and over and over about they give you another blade of grass to defend and they make you beat them the long way. It's going to be very difficult. Call him murray playing the way he is offense speaking complete teams watch out for the cardinals new. Nfl live from field. Yates says the patriots have placed a few players on the cove in nineteen lesbian. there A lot of offensive line. It looks like something to keep an eye on either way. You banish rates on car insurance view switch to geico geico in october is their favorite time of year in the folks over at geiko. "Justice a team. That's it over using it confused as to whether or not matt nagy really likes. Andy dalton. I don't know like a re i think you have mispronounced lo long. It's love i. it's it's like it's a little odd right at this point now. I think it's it's very odd. It's like like you said it's a very odd. He'll to die okay. Well let's get to the justin fields peace and all this. What did you like from what you saw from him on sunday. The very first thing. I liked about what i saw from. Justin feels on sunday. Was that matt nagy was not calling the place. That was the thing that was the best about bill. Laser came into this game with the game plan. That looked like it was one hundred and forty nine days into making when it should have been the game plan. They lose used against the cleveland browns. The dropback passes the play action leaving extra guys into protect. Now we can show what justice can do with pushing the football down. The field and matt nagy can keep saying that he wants. Andy dalton be the quarterback the other decision he make should make continuing the fire himself week after week after week of being offensive coordinator. Yeah i mean in case anyone needed proof. The bears had three offensive touchdowns on sunday that match their total for the entire season up until that point other thing. Yeah they keep saying andy. Dalton is the starter. Only one of these dunes astro touchdown passes issue and that would be justin field. All right. thanks see. We got more to talk about here brown. I'll try beating the vikings on sunday but it wasn't cousin baker mayfield mile garrett and the defense produced the dominant performance. You saw nick chubb. Getting involved there kareem hunt. They kept the ball moving on the ground. But nick chubb even cold it swopping even though it was a win. So when you think about baker mayfield in all of this dan they got the win but there was something from baker aside from even the numbers that you didn't love the accuracy issues showed up this weekend. I'm not overly concerned with those because baker. that's superpower ball placement. What i did not like where his eyes to different places. One look into the wrong place when it comes to coverage your is should be going to the right side inside slid to outside linebacker food. The right you should be going back side to number thirteen odell beckham and then there's moments play action pass inside out you one hitch to your check down. That's not how this often sufferings. Then there's moments just to onto odell beckham where you the the is go dell and get off odell because i want to throw to dell and then there's moments where you're not even looking for odell so i did not like baker mayfield's is. This is a story that we know was a reality last year. And i'm just letting you know you gotta nip it in but right now because if they don't fix this this is the second game back with dell and i'm told you three plays in this past weekend where he looks all dell and will not get off of them. If that doesn't get fixed it will continue to be a story moving forward. Yeah baker currently sitting at twenty six in the nfl and qbr this season after finishing pins in the league last season dan. Let's to quarterback who isn't struggling in the slightest. That'd be dak prescott four touchdowns in a win over the panthers sunday extremely efficient performance. Zeke was on fire too but deck and his fourteen twenty. Two hundred eighty eight yards was remarkable. Considering it produced for touchdowns. Marcus win or lose and talking about the cowboys right at the topic bit. Every single sport show wants to talk about. Is all hype deserve for. This team has finally this. Start the stop joking about it. This team is a legit super bowl contender and they could absolutely end up in a super bowl based on how we see them operate. They've gotten back to a physicality on office of land. Dak prescott is playing the best. He's played in his career. He looks at him in the offense coordinator kelly more or in sync in everything that they're doing and the defensive taking the football away. This football team is complete where we stand today. I know i like to get emotional. I know i like the joke. I love the cowboys. But this time now we really can put them in the super bowl compensate. Serious that you've ever talked about the cowboys ever by the way. Espn's fbi agrees with you. They give the cowboys. The third highest chances to make the nfc championship at thirty percent. After the bucks and cardinals. So think you're onto something there with all that series is how lamar jackson. He won the game against the broncos with his right arm and maybe his performance was lost and all that back and forth about the record that the ravens wanted to make sure that they got me but either way he had three hundred sixteen yards in the air. It was all about what he did with his arm. When you think about lamar and how you're looking at him in this game and then also overall what comes to mind. I was impressed. Laura i mean for me. This was really interesting match. Because i think the defense is one of the best in the nfl. Quite frankly and i was curious to see what vic fangio due to try to stop the ravens offense and it was very obvious obvious from the beginning of the game that they were being in on the run. Doing everything possible to stop the both the ravens running. Back and lamar jackson run the football. So what did he do as you said he'd beat them to the area and i want to note. This has been beating teams through the air all season. In fact he leaves the nfl in yards per completion completion. Because listen to this. Imagine if markey's brown cut those. Footballs because we played well against denver marquees. I just wanted to let people know the mark. Jackson is that pill. Yeah it's funny. Because i think he's always known he could do that but now he continues to prove it. On the highest levels. Picks wise is a number one sports betting pigs klein expert picks every sport every day. If you or someone you know wants help call one eight hundred gant back here in. Nfl glad you're with it's time now for some updates on notable injuries around the league. Let's get jeff darlington back in here. Jeff what's the latest on forty. Niners jimmy garoppolo. Well good news bad news. Laura kyle shanahan. The forty niners head. Coach did say that the calf injury suffered by jimmy. Garoppolo is maybe not a severe as the initially expected the one of course that kept him out of the second half. The bad news is obviously we still are left wondering about an injury prone garoppolo to keep in mind. The fact that of the five seasons garoppolo has been the starting quarterback to begin the season. He's been injured before we four in four of them so he's obviously frustrated with but still open that maybe he's got a chance to play this week teddy bridgewater currently in concussion protocol. Right now. the team is still hoping that he could practice in the limited capacity on thursday if he can clear the first stage of that concussion protocol so he's not out yet. The good news is they also have drew. Lock there so he could start in the place. David montgomery pretty significant injury here in terms of just the impact on the team. A sprained left knee. That could keep him out four to five weeks that the current line according to our dan graziano. This is a guy. Obviously a hundred and six rushing yards in this game before the injury damian williams who also dealing with a thigh bruise in that game will be the guy who will replace him as the starter if of course he is healthy. And what's the latest on. Josh gordon jet activated so we will wait and see if he becomes an impact player for the chiefs. I mean no doubt fascinating element here for a team that obviously has star power. If only they could find some help on defense. Perhaps it wouldn't be in their current predicament. Yeah good point jeff. In to that point but chiefs win over the eagles and sunday. Patrick mahomes got back on track in a big way with five touchdowns he didn't just throw five. Tv's he did it in three different ways three to tyree killed course by the way but underhanded from the homes over handed. He shoveled one in a reminded people once again why. He's the best in the game right now. The eagles played zone coverage at a league. high eighty. Six percent clipper weeks but on sunday. They tried to switch strategies by mixing in more man coverage. Throw off in homes. Let's just say it didn't work. Since we began tracking coverages in two thousand sixteen mahomes became the first player. In that time. To throw five touchdown passes and a ninety percent completion.

"And their performance in la against the raiders chargers. Win twenty eight to fourteen herbert's finishes with two hundred twenty two fasten yards and three touchdowns at that means made three starts under the lights absolutely bolt out in all three times producing ten combines passing and rushing touchdowns in those games that's tied for the most combined passing and rushing cd's qb in his first three primetime starts since nineteen seventy merger. Patrick mahomes of famer. Dan marino the other two on that list and dan. What did you learn from the teeth last night of justin pervert. I think the thing that's been most impressive in it showed up last night. Is that just in. Herbert quickly has realized that the arm come secondary to his mind in his eyes. And you watch that with some of those red zone touchdowns that were just so perfect in their execution and then the ball player. So i just loved that like this kid is quickly understood. Yeah i'm physically crazy talented. But that is secondary to what i can do with where i'm supposed to go with the ball and then how i can use my eyes to move people to make that kind of vacant see be attacked else i saw on those plays and really throughout the game clean pocket. I mean i. It wasn't perfect Max crosby one on the right side a few times but the charges offensive line going into this season. The question was are they as improved as we'd like them to be compared to last year in the early returns are very good and for me. It all starts on the left side with the rookie left. Tackle sean slater. I think he's been spectacular. Three four games and it is not easy to come into the nfl and play left tackle as a rule You know against some stiff competition last night. Any gop way up against him a lot and he has not allowed a single stack. Who gay as not a single stack and and while throw this out here. We do not talk about offensive lineman as rookie of the candidates. We should frankly. Prison worst belong in that conversation last march as played. Well i know it's only twenty five percent way through the season slater absolutely deserves to be in that. I'm on the list. And i think that's a huge piece to why this team is winning. That's what last night was about to me. The los angeles chargers are finding ways to win games. Mark brought this up early on in the season that those were games. We felt like they had lost in seizes previous. What about this show. They won the last four last year. And i get listen brandis daily. You wanna come out and say he's doing a great job. We listen to him last night. He says this is how we expect to play. We expect to do this. They go forward on fourth down and they put the football. They're young quarterbacks. Hand and not only. Does the quarterback believe it when everybody else on the team. Believe he's going to come up with the play. This is a team started winning down the stretch last year. They've added some new pieces and they understand. They have a dude under center. And that's you last week to remember where we were kind of wondering about it at that point because patrick mahomes had a chance to win the game. Of course that doesn't end up. Happening is the other piece of this chargers teams the defence in. everyone's been talking about. Derek carr in this offense. They kept them in check last night. How you listen. I get it. Just the herbert offense of land story to the game. We get ignored about offense. But this offense for las vegas. Raiders was scoring thirty points a game. They have exclusive at this. Point of the season is still early. First quarter basically now that we have seventeen games. You got four quarters in a game but the bottom line is we're looking for complete this now we're looking at fourteen that's putting it together on both sides of the ball and those teams are start to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. Listen it's a lot of good offices in the nfl. Like let's be honest. We see people we see that everybody. Who's complete and brandon. Staley who i thought benefited from heaven. Erin donald jalen ramsey and was. I was expecting him to take a step back in how we thought of him as a defense guy doorways enduring and also but also these guys are so well coached. They were ready for everything. The laws to you said. He's defensive coach that's being aggressive. That used to not having these defensive coordinator is coming and coach and they would not go for it and i got an offense of background to the totality at the totality of the ability to coach is. What is the impact of this football team. Right now okay. There wasn't a lot of positive. Things for the raiders. But there was this moment. From hundred renfro g during the free season. Now you really know for sure right them. The reef across the coast. That does happen to your coach guys. He was talking some smack with jalen ramsey in the free season i. "Kid these are both. Nfl draft picks. They combine against west virginia. Who was the best defensive team in the big twelve last year. They combine twelve catches one hundred and fifty five yards two touchdowns they averaged demystified. Twenty two point two yards per reception jarrett twenty point three yards perception. Tae on fleet davis eighteen carries one hundred. Twenty three yards but leah as he's known to all of those in the program Tali as his first name full first name liangalo at to his younger brother who we saw last year play really well at times and then make a lot of mistakes at times but he had a couple of incredible games last year against minnesota and penn state in particular tommy. He had one of the best days of any quarterback in the nation on saturday. Twenty six thirty six three hundred and thirty two yards three touchdowns Had a huge third down run. Conversion late and maryland beat west virginia thirty to twenty four. Now there were some things that made this a maryland win Made in maryland win much more possible like four turnovers from west virginia. They turned it over. Four times in maryland didn't turn it over once. Maryland was a minus seven in turnover margin ingest. Five games remember the short season last year and in the first game there plus four and some might say well plus four. They should've won that game going away. Well there's some truth to that. They had some crucial penalties couple of crucial drops by demons in particular They missed a field goal in the game but they did put up five hundred yards of offense score thirty points in win a game over west. Virginia that steve suter when he was on the show on friday. He's part of the broadcasting with jani. Said was the key to the season. Believe it or not because if they beat west. Virginia they got a really good chance to win six games and go to a bowl. I'll net it out without getting into a true breakdown of the game. Which i took a ton of notes but i'm going to pass on them for now they've got a lot of talent at skill position at the skill positions and they've got some really good talent on defense as well an exceptional team speed. I don't know if michael oxley in his staff can really coach or not But i can tell you this they can really recruit and if they coach these guys up him and that staff. This is going to be a program that isn't going to be ohio state. I'm not suggesting. That or penn state or michigan all three of whom are in the big ten east. But it's going to be a program that's going to threaten seven eight nine wins a year and consistent bowl eligibility and really the most success maryland. Footballs had since ralph left in twenty ten. When he completed ten years of going to bowls in seven years in winning five of those bowls. I'm not sure maryland. Football's ever had this much team speed on the field and this many skill position. Nfl talent caliber players. But they're an interesting to watch in the big ten but nationally as well and really important is. They've got a quarterback who plays like russell wilson. First time i saw last year. I said man. He plays like russell. Wilson then i had him on the show and he said well. I model my game after russell wilson. You can see that in the way he plays. He's not russell. Wilson not saying that but he has something that i think could turn him into a special quarterback this year and next he is Is good as they've had in a while. But i was excited about that. I'm excited about maryland football. They've got a chance to in they. Play howard this week. Didn't they've got a huge game at illinois. then they play kent state. It's possible they could be four no in ranked well inside the top twenty five when a highly ranked iowa comes to town for a friday night game on october first. So anyway there's my maryland stuff your thoughts. I have no particular thoughts on their own. It looked like it was a fun game to be at Look i'd be happy if maryland football went back to the days of Of ralph and how relevant it was back then and i remember covering some of those games and how exciting it was to be at those games compared to the tomb. It's been for the past few years of maryland football. You know the first time. I had loxley on the show. I asked him a lot about you. Know the the old days when bobby raw he was he was he was a part of free remember. He recruited in was a big part of free agent staff for those first few years when they won like thirty five games in three years. Ralph's rose three years. You know the a lot of it were players. That loxley recruited. But i i also and i can't believe i. I forgot to mention this. They wore their eighties throwback uniforms they should make those permanent please my god. They looked so good in young people like him too. 'cause my kids and their friends were like these are phenomenal uniforms and know we're the turps like there. Was this push. When kevin anderson came into the program to move away from turps and to be maryland in have maryland be the brand but for sports. Turps has always been a big part of the brand. You know and i use the. You know the the script on the helmet of turps They they weren't now. Apparently these are all uniforms or their one one off uniforms. That's a shame because the the stuff they've been wearing here in the last few years i it's hard for me to watch it but i'm excited about maryland. Football i got loxley on the radio show friday And i look in in the big ten. It's different than the. Acc you better get players because in the acc. If you coached up what you had you could win. Seven eight games go to boll. Go to go to a bowl every year. Which is what routed would bobby. Ross did bobby ross. Before four to state was in the league was winning league. Titles and ralph won a league title to in the big ten east. You gotta get talents. Or you're not gonna have any chance. And i think what comes next for maryland is big athletic linemen. 'cause you need that in the big ten skill position wise team speed wise. I mean they're up there. They're not penn state or ohio state but their way up there in the big ten in terms of overall team speed and playmakers so It's they they could be a fun team to watch. I know that. I think we said this a couple of years ago when they you know crushed in two thousand nineteen they beat howard. Seventy nine nothing. And then the next week they beat syracuse sixty. Three to twenty and everybody was going nuts nuts. It was loxley first year. But howard was how heard in syracuse even though they were ranked that particular day it turned out that they sucked that year and so Maryland promptly lost a temple and they got blown out by penn state at home and the rest is history. They just weren't ready yet but they're getting closer to being ready to be a six seven eight win team in push. Everybody not named ohio state in the big ten. I think they are ready for that. wanted to just point out a couple of other things from the college football weekend. I mentioned ohio state. I i think we talked about this Maybe i didn't talk about this on the podcast. Ohio state and ohio states. Doing what clemson did me in the acc. Tommy they put so much distance between them and everybody else. It's really interesting in a conference with michigan and penn state and michigan state and iowa and nebraska. You know all these big heavyweight names. Ohio state sofa so much better than these teams. It's what clemson's done in the acc over the last many years they've put massive distance between themselves and the rest of the league like florida state. You know florida state. Miami clemson dominated in ohio states. Done that in the big ten. And i it's impressive. You know especially given that. They've done it with multiple coaches there. Nobody's close to them in the league. I may be proven wrong on this. They just have too much talent. I think bama looks.

"Hey kev tom. It's run for mashburn. And i would have taken justin herbert. Because i'll tell you. What as much as i love chase young and i do and i'm glad he's with this team. One guy plays quarterback and the other guy is a defensive end. I wouldn't even have to think for more than a blink. If i had a chance to redraft twenty twenty after watching justin herbert last year with the chargers. I would take herbert number two. Listen i agree with all that. What's interesting is though. Rivera said draft. What you need. I thought you didn't draft based on the that's got here. we go. I know. Charlie doesn't i would charlie. I know charlie. Charlie casserly who was a general manager in this league Says all the time when you start drafting for need. That's when you make your biggest mistakes. A lot of mistakes may draft on best best player available to one is particularly bigger. Mistake prone Action than the other But rivera did say you know we needed. We needed this guy well. Because he's a defensive guy you know. We're very was a linebacker of course and he was right. I agree with you. I would have drafted chase young with that. Pick absolutely but But but if you do it. Now you're right i mean just in. Herbert was amazing last year as a rookie quarterback for a team that was gonna fire. It's coach thirty one touchdowns ten picks. Yes i mean. That's that's your quarterback absolutely. Forget the numbers. If you watch that team which i did a lot of in some and some of you did too. They were national. Tv probably too much For for what they had last year but that that guy that guy can play they were seven and nine. Same record is washington and they lost. I've done this before. They lost two games in overtime and another four game. Five games by one score less they were. They were only out of two games buffalo in new england on the entire slate. That's why a lot of people like The chargers to be a playoff team this year. Can i just say one thing. Because i think i i. I don't wanna lose the sought. I think the need versus You know best player on the board is really way too much of a black white topic because it's it's just not there's a lot of subtlety and nuance to it. It's you know you would always take the player at a need position if it's really close and more times than not it is really close when you get to the spot on the on the board where you are in these rounds you have a couple of players. That are pretty close. Now if if they if they had two great defensive ends and pass rushers and there weren't any quarterbacks in the draft that we're taking and they passed on chase young. That would have been a mistake. 'cause to me chase young would have been the highest rate of player on their board by miles but he was that and they had a need but anyway Yourself back up there at all. No i just. I think we. We've had this conversation. The two of us have had this conversation. I've had this conversation with lots of people and you know lots of people agree. Lots of people disagree on the subject. I just think that it's it's not more times than not. It's not oh. This is obviously the highest rated player on the board. But he doesn't fill need. We're gonna to take him. I think more times than not there are a lot of players that are close in one of them fills a need more than the others. But but you're right. I mean it sure sounded like If you're asking me today and you inject truth serum and they. I feel a lot better with that guy behind center than ryan. It's passers and it's not the wrong answer is because because here's their thrill chase young is a is a really really good player as a rookie. And he's going to be a great player. He has the chance to become one of the all time. Great washington football team players. I believe that. And i. I was totally in favor. But if you were to redraft twenty twenty and you understand the importance of the quarterback position versus any other position on the field including by the way a dominant pass rusher and they are important. Pro football focus. Now tell you that a corner is more important than a pass. Rusher given the quick throws and the rpo game it's cetera and by the way interior pass rushers. They'll tell you are more important than edge pass rushers but whatever The bottom line is nothing comes close to how important the quarterback is and every so many teams including this one for decades have been in search of a franchise version of a quarterback. And if you went back and had the chance to draft twenty twenty all over again franchise quarterback one went to cincinnati franchise quarterback to justin. Herbert would be going to whomever had the number two. Pick no matter who was on the board including chase young. I think that's i think any football person would tell you that that if they went back and drafted twenty twenty and they had washington selection. They'd be like. Oh god man xiang so good but but herbert looks like the real deal. Yeah yeah so. I agree so there were a couple of things that i wanted to To mention That came out of the weekend. And i know you wanna talk a little tennis actually and so do i Some to save that for a little bit. But i have not had a chance to weigh in on maryland's win over west virginia which really was an exciting game. It was a great crowd. I was not there. But i know a lot of people who were there. phenomenal crowd. Apparently lot of west. Virginia which even back in the day when maryland played west virginia west virginia fans travel. We had steve suter on the show. the other day and souder said he remembers how west virginia fans travelled and they did and they probably made up twenty five thirty percent of the crowd based on. You know people that. I talked to that were there. But i was so impressed. Tommy with maryland's talent and this is the thing that's been building here. Since loxley took the job they have multiple top twenty top twenty five recruiting classes in a row. And there's another one coming in next year and what you see in even big tony. Who's super skeptical about everything. He's texting me gone. Maryland's receivers the best in the big ten and that might include ohio state. Look ohio state has ridiculous talent. Ohio state has pulled away from the rest of the big ten. It's amazing how they've been able to do that but Maryland skill position players on offense and defense are exceptional. Like they're pros. They've got several pros on their team and they've been producing pros from the skill position players. But i'll start with their their starting wide receivers. Dante di misunder came. Jared jared was a five star. Kid these are both. Nfl draft picks. They combine against west virginia. Who was the best defensive team in the big twelve last year..

"A just a reminder to subscribe to the podcast. If you haven't done that really helps us if you do that. It doesn't cost you a thing. Also rate us in review especially on apple spotify and google. I've read a lot of your recent reviews. They're so nice. It takes all of a minute. To rate is five stars review us with the sentence or two But you know you can do it as easy as j marts fifty seven ninety two did great podcast big fan of the show or you can write something that's a little bit longer From ours e. Three fifty kevin and his buds bring it for the washington sports fans but additionally he's got lots to say about other cities in their teams. The interactions between kevin. And tom are what drives the podcast for me. Tom does a lot to keep kevin thinking and honest Really appreciate though All of the recent reviews para para requests. They've really Been helpful listening to kevin. And tommy from jeff Discuss everything from quarterbacks to doubt makes the day go by a little faster love. this show Much appreciate it if you could rate us in review us where you get a chance. It's really helpful By the way Ron rivera will be a guest on the radio. Show all right. my team. Nine eighty radio show friday mornings at eight. Am during football season. Starting this friday morning some looking forward to that. So tommy I wanted to play to ron rivera. Sound bites and react to them. These are two questions back to back. That ben standard or good friend from the athletic asked ron rivera about justin. Herbert the quarterback of the chargers this weekend he the offensive rookie of the year last year facing the defensive rookie of the year last year. Chase young both selected in the twenty twenty draft chase young at number two justin herbert at number six. Listen to these two questions and answers. And then i want to react to them. Ron we finally get to ask you about an upcoming opponent for a game. So i'm just curious with regards to justin herbert. Somebody you guys took a look at At the draft last year. What were your thoughts on him. Sort of at that time it. Have you seen him progress. Well when we looked at them we really like to use the football players. Go strong armies built for the position. He's very athletic for a big guy got tremendous arm. He sees to feel good decision maker. You put the tape on. From last year he got an up she to watch them. Make all the throws literally make all throws. It's just one of those things that you draft to you. Think you need and that's what we did I really think that this is a good football players. Young guy is going to continue to develop and grow and he'll be a formidable player for a long time in this league. Is there anything about him. That stands out in terms aware. The league is right now has has really good size a lot of strength but anything that sort of stands out with kind of just worth is right now. No i think. Probably the biggest thing though. Is you know when when when you get an opportunity. You find that that quarterback like kid like him. You know young man like him. That's what you want to get and hold onto part of. It also is always hindsight because now you get sc that he's had success and he's capable of that sixers. I mean he was offensive rookie of the year last year for a reason. Obviously so there are two parts of the two answers tommy that i wanted to focus in on. He said after ben's first question you know when we looked at them you know we we liked it we saw but you draft who you think you need and that's what we did and then in the follow up question. He uses the word hindsight. About seeing herbert play last year. And in hindsight how good he was essentially a wanted. Just refresh everybody And their memories of the twenty twenty Draft you know. The question was not just an herbert for washington at number two. If anybody was even discussing it. The question was to a tongue of lower at number two joe. Borough went number one to cincinnati and then washington was on the clock. And i've discussed this many times. I wanted them to draft chase young. I wanted them to lose the giants game. The chase young game the year before when some of you know this was a division game. You gotta win. i'm like no no no chase. Young could be a transcendent defensive player and a dominant one over the next ten years. You cannot win this game that you can't beat the giants in this game. I wanted them to draft chase young. I wasn't a fan of justin. Herbert i thought he choked. In some of oregon's the biggest games especially senior year and i thought to is injury was too high risk. I liked to a But i wanted chase young. And tommy context includes dwayne haskins coming off his rookie year. Having played a decent game against the eagles and the giants a half a game against the giants and i wanted to see haskins for sixteen games. And by the way. I think the owner wanted to see him for sixteen games and i think even rivera understood. That twenty twenty. Wasn't going to be a contention year and remember. He said that he had Haskins as a first round grade you know he in in the in the powers that be in carolina so even though i think he was not a big haskins fan i think the haskins thing was hovering over this thing but i think they make the right call in the moment. Drafting chase. young the issue is if you had to go back and draft twenty twenty again. Would you still take young or will you. would you take herbert. I think ron may have said there with hindsight comment that if he were caller into the radio station asked about what he would do if he could redraft twenty twenty he would've said..

"Mean what. I've been reading lately. I don't wanna get into this whole debate. it looks like we may peaked on the variant And maybe going in the opposite direction. But here's the problem. The problem ardy unvaccinated players and the impact if they come into contact with somebody even if they come into contact with somebody who has cove and the protocols involve pretty unvaccinated asked the difference between now between this year and last year. there's also a new variant. Sure you've been following Did you have you gotten a booster shot. No but you know. They're they're vailable now. You gotta you gotta have eight months in between Yeah see do well. No you don't. Because i know people want they haven't been dope. Boot there's been no booster for the madonna. You hasn't frankly quite frankly they. They like the ways. The job of earners doing okay. Well that's good I i know. I know people who have gotten the booster for the pfizer. You know short event months Apparently if you know whatever so This is a weak by the way and an opponent that brings up an interesting question that we have discussed before. But we're going to discuss it again and that is it's a matchup on sunday between last year's offensive rookie of the year and last year's defensive rookie of the year. We'll discuss the twenty twenty draft. And what could have been right after these words from a few of our sponsors. You know the right outfit can bring out something special in all of us in with indochino creating your best look yet could be more affordable than you think now over the last year and a half. It's been a while probably for many of you were. You've had an excuse to dress up..

"That. I don't like just cold weather. I just like the threat of winter weather. Which would include you know snow and that kind of thing. I enjoy that. But i but i am as. I'm getting older. Tommy i enjoy this time of year. I think i think i enjoyed the next two months out of the calendar as much as any two for our area like it's the most beautiful time of the year september october. Typically i mean. September can still be hot early in september but when we get to the middle end of the month and then october. It's it's so pretty around here but and you'll be going to like festivals and fairs and stuff like that No time for festival both. Will you be going apple. The apple orchards. Well i won't be but when the kids were young. Those are activities. You know going to butler's orchard way out montgomery county out near where you live almost and taking hay rides and and going through the pumpkin patch and picking pumpkins that was always a a fall ritual for the sheen's it would also. It would have to be like on a saturday not sunday. I was willing to interrupt a college football morning early afternoon for that but couldn't do it for the nfl. Sundays but yeah no. I think there's something Comfortable about this time of year for certainly a lot of the people that are listening. And i am excited about this coming week. I now not as excited as you were mentioning right before. The show started not as excited. Apparently as mike greenberg is for the washington. Football team Holy shit people were sending me this. I still haven't watched it to be honest with you. I just know that he apparently said washington's like his pick to win the whole thing or something. I don't know what basically said. This year's forty niners The forty niners from two years ago. Yeah okay yeah. That's basically what he said You know i mean he's operating on a level of of pure ignorance with with comment like that. But i watched it so i am bunch of people senate to me and i started to watch it and i realized what am i doing here. It's greenberg. i mean who cares would greenberg. Thanks i may not let me just mentioned. Let me make sure i'm clear on this. Mike greenberg is one of the best hosts and facilitators and traffic cops and teasers he knows how to do a talk format radio. Tv as well as anybody does. I think he's in the top three or four guys in terms of of compensation at espn. I think he's very good at what he does. I've never been necessarily a big fan of him or like his knowledge sports or opinions on things but he's excellent at what he does in that is. He does a great job of setting people up. We call it playing traffic cop in in the talk business. You know and i. I've been fortunate enough to sort of been work with people like tommy in cooley over the years where we've all sort of done you know i wouldn't. I've done more of the heavy lifting on the traffic. Stop stuff i. I'll admit that but in terms of the opinions it was always that that's the kind of a show. Was everybody opining on things that they felt passionate about. That's really not greenberg's thing except occasionally people were sending me this thing as if like. Oh my god. Mike greenberg sees it so it has to be true. What well i think. There's there's kind of a snowball effect going on this week. hasn't a line moved In this game in washington favor well. I haven't checked. That was my prediction a couple of months ago. I did predict it. By the time we got to game time washington would be it would either be a pick him or washington would be favored No the line is still pretty much chargers across the board minus one. Okay because i read somewhere. I thought on one sportsbook. It had gone to washington Plus one it wouldn't surprise me if that happens but remember sharp money moves. Point spreads public money or public. Perception really doesn't so I just i well. Actually i just pulled it up on one of my sites to my three sites are still chargers minus one and another one. It's now a pick. I thought it would move a little bit in washington's favour as we as we approached as we approach the start of the game i can tell you this. The public loves washington this week. That's not a surprise they're gonna like washington early. I mean especially when people like mike greenberg proclaim. They're going to be the forty niners of two years ago and and win the nfc championship now in his comments. And i i. I mentioned this to you before the show. But you don't seem to understand what i'm getting at here. He said rivera. He talks about the coach and outbreak the coaches and he said ron rivera had four out of five winning.

"Sponsor bad rivers rivers dot com and like i totally understand what you're saying can as regards staley. I wanna come at this from from a different angle. because you're right the talents there on the trump. They've been bitten by the injury bug. The last couple of years like the roster theoretically is good enough if everyone stays healthy to get to ten eleven wins as far as daily. Though is concerned justice. We talk about players as prospects right as a coaching prospect. When you hear like really smart people talk about brandon's staley when you listen to brandon staley a really smart guy when you listen to him. Talk when you look at what staley did. The last year with the los angeles rams a defense literally with like two really good players. Aaron donald and jalen ramsey. What are was able to do turning that into one of the dominant units in the national. Football league was absolutely mesmerizing last year. So i can't wait to see what he's going to do with some of the pieces on the defense this year most notably derwin james right. Hopefully with james can stay healthy here so the talent on this rosters immense. I think staley's awesome coach. I think he's got a chance to be one of the great One of the next great coaches in the national football league. The offensive line is improved. Herbert's gonna be really good. We think get here to your point. I don't know that. I necessarily want to go over nine and a half wins here but i do think. Some extreme outcomes are possible for the chargers this year. If you told me that i had to the win total and the price was the rivers price of nine and a half juiced over about minus one thirty. I think about the under. I think that would be. That would be where. I would come down just because generally teams like this that get the market win. Total credit that they haven't really earned on average like cool like one out of three is going to succeed. One out of four is going to succeed in college football. This is the same thing teams that are like nine eight and a half win total but haven't really done it. It's supposed to be like their year. Generally those go under more than over and in the nfl. There's a similar dynamic. So it's if i had about the total i would bet under i. Just think like yeah. I kind of like the talent. I think there's a lot of reasons why they could achieve a lot. Well let me ask you like so. The other extreme outcomes that are in play here staley coach the year would be my my favorite pick by a mile versus some of these other ones you about the chargers to win the super bowl. You about the chargers to win the afc. You could bet. Justin harper twin mvp. Those are the three other. Like extreme outcomes basically. None of those are particularly interesting to me. And i'll explain. Why very quickly the afc like we mentioned such a like heaven have not conference this year. So many teams that can achieve massive records. The chargers could have an amazing. The church could go eleven and six and be really good and play a road game every round of the playoffs. And like what happens when we get to that point. Are you going to be ecstatic. That you're holding your chargers tickets to win the afc or like. Are you just going to be looking to take them..

"It's one of <Speech_Male> the worst draws <Speech_Male> in the league <Speech_Male> to be perfectly <Speech_Male> honest. Knew we <Speech_Male> had the nfc east <Silence> on the schedule. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> You sort of just wanna <Speech_Male> get your feet <Speech_Male> wet. You wanna get some <Speech_Male> continuity <Speech_Male> on the offensive <Silence> line <Speech_Male> for all the <Speech_Male> ceiling and the expectations <Speech_Male> and the excitement <Speech_Male> around the team. <Speech_Male> That's literally like <Speech_Male> a plug. Your nose <Speech_Male> in anything you <Speech_Male> can to come out with <Speech_Male> a w washington. <Speech_Male> Equally <Speech_Male> getting hyped. <Speech_Male> That's a test. I <Speech_Male> hope my <Speech_Male> injury prone team <Speech_Male> comes healthy <Speech_Male> and they can <Speech_Male> find a way <Speech_Male> to win. Would <Speech_Male> seems like what's going <Speech_Male> to be a really <Speech_Male> tough game. Long-term <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> i'm excited <Speech_Male> if they could survive those <Speech_Male> first few weeks. <Speech_Male> What's not to <Speech_Male> be excited about <Speech_Male> being a fan <Speech_Male> right. It's part <Speech_Male> of. It is getting excited <Speech_Male> and then being disappointed <Speech_Male> in <Speech_Male> the end i talk <Speech_Male> about a time and time again <Speech_Male> though i <Speech_Male> i will die <Speech_Male> on the hill that <Speech_Male> they hit a home. Run <Speech_Male> with this brandon. Staley <Speech_Male> i are mesmerized <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> when he opens <Speech_Male> his mouth every <Speech_Male> single time <Speech_Male> so <Speech_Male> and i expect <Speech_Male> everyone <Speech_Male> in the football world <Speech_Male> to be looking <Speech_Male> forward to that. Staley <Speech_Male> soundbite <Speech_Male> early in the week after <Speech_Male> games wins <Speech_Male> or losses for <Speech_Male> the chargers. He <Speech_Male> is so insightful. <Speech_Male> He is <Speech_Male> so insightful. <Speech_Male> You ask him <Speech_Male> compared to having <Speech_Male> to listen to anthony. <Speech_Male> Lynn at the podium. <Speech_Male> Just be so <Speech_Male> dumb and <Speech_Male> disrespectful <Speech_Male> at the same time <Speech_Male> this is <Speech_Male> i am. We're <Speech_Male> gonna play with strategy. <Speech_Male> I'm so fired <Speech_Male> up guys. <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> James and boats <Speech_Female> remember. <Speech_Female> We're at a time. "I <Speech_Female> <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> <Silence> <Advertisement> made a free <Speech_Female> fifty dollars. Bet <Speech_Female> what's better than that. <Speech_Female> Maybe it's chef. <Speech_Female> I'm talking bmw <Speech_Male> championship with here <Speech_Female> with us on you better. You <Speech_Female> bet bet q. L. nick <Speech_Female> nick issue <Speech_Female> in for ken <Speech_Female> barclay. Jeff let's <Speech_Female> hit the some other guys you <Speech_Female> like in the outright market <Speech_Male> this <SpeakerChange> weekend <Silence> a caves valley <Speech_Male> yes <Speech_Male> so i was an eager <Speech_Male> beaver on. <Speech_Male> What was i. Guess <Speech_Male> tuesday morning this <Speech_Male> week. When <Speech_Male> the odds drop <Speech_Male> i got right into <Speech_Male> it guys. I <Speech_Male> made five outright <Speech_Male> picks between twenty <Speech_Male> eight and fifty <Silence> to one. <Speech_Male> No <Speech_Male> each ways just straight <Speech_Male> up to win <Speech_Male> all in <Speech_Male> big in the middle <Speech_Male> They dropped thirty <Speech_Male> five on bryson <Speech_Male> out of the gate <Speech_Male> for all the reasons. I've <Speech_Male> mentioned about caves <Speech_Male> valley. He has <Speech_Male> put up so many <Speech_Male> birdies lately. Guys <Speech_Male> a player like <Speech_Male> bryson. We know how <Speech_Male> hard he works. That <Speech_Male> birdie number <Speech_Male> that total birdies <Speech_Male> number. I expect <Speech_Male> to remain. Would <Speech_Male> i expect to change. <Speech_Male> Is <Speech_Male> he's going to clean it up. <Speech_Male> And i think we're like <Speech_Male> a nose air away <Speech_Male> from getting rid <Speech_Male> of the bogeys while <Speech_Male> maintaining those <Speech_Male> cavalcade of <Speech_Male> birdies. Victor <Speech_Male> hovel and thirty <Speech_Male> five. Forty two one. <Speech_Male> I can't <Speech_Male> quit victor. He <Speech_Male> has been <Speech_Male> outstanding again <Speech_Male> in that in that <Speech_Male> iron range where <Speech_Male> i mentioned roy mcelroy. <Speech_Male> One hundred and seventy <Speech_Male> five to two hundred <Speech_Male> yards <Speech_Male> had an incident <Speech_Male> on the weekend with <Speech_Male> his putter. But <Speech_Male> i am. <Speech_Male> I'm going to the <Speech_Male> wall with victor once <Speech_Male> again. I believe <Speech_Male> he could win this thing <Speech_Male> by multiple strokes <Speech_Male> and <Speech_Male> decky matsuyama. <Speech_Male> The i <Speech_Male> play again just <Speech_Male> continues <Speech_Male> to be there <Speech_Male> event. After <Speech_Male> event i <Speech_Male> think as valley <Speech_Male> sets up very <Speech_Male> well for <Speech_Male> matsuyama who <Speech_Male> yeah. We <Speech_Male> paid a lot of attention <Speech_Male> to the masters <Speech_Male> win but <Speech_Male> but he continues <Speech_Male> teeter green <Speech_Male> to do <Speech_Male> what he does. Best <Speech_Male> in on bent grass. <Speech_Male> It <Speech_Male> is his best putting <Speech_Male> surface. You <Speech_Male> can get that median <Speech_Male> putting week. <Speech_Male> Maybe we can gain a stroke <Speech_Male> or two from <Speech_Male> decky on the greens. <Speech_Male> And i expect him to <Speech_Male> go low. <Speech_Male> Which golfers <Speech_Male> are you fading in matchups. <Silence> <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> Jeez <Speech_Male> that's a tough one. I'm <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> gonna pick on jordan <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> spieth <Speech_Male> a little bit this week. <Silence> Guys <Speech_Male> picking <Speech_Male> on jordan speak. <Speech_Male> It's a really <Speech_Male> long golf course. <Speech_Male> Granted i could <Speech_Male> argue speaks. <Speech_Male> You can make the case <Speech_Male> has been a bit <Speech_Male> course <Speech_Male> proof he <Speech_Male> really has. I'll give him <Speech_Male> full marks in that <Speech_Male> regard <Speech_Male> he she shown up <Speech_Male> a ton of courses. I <Speech_Male> don't <SpeakerChange> expect <Speech_Male> him <Speech_Male> end. A webb simpson <Speech_Male> webb <Speech_Male> simpson. He is a <Speech_Male> bent grass specialist. <Speech_Male> He's going <Speech_Male> to need a huge <Speech_Male> week. Probably to <Speech_Male> win to make <Speech_Male> the ryder cup. But <Speech_Male> off the tee. <Speech_Male> As i mentioned <Speech_Male> that's the most important <Speech_Male> thing for me. He's <Speech_Male> just been weighed to <Speech_Male> sideways. <Speech_Male> I'm expecting him to find <Speech_Male> trouble. <SpeakerChange> Here <Speech_Male> at caves valley <Speech_Female> jeff any <Speech_Female> derivatives that you <Speech_Female> like first round <Speech_Female> leader <Speech_Female> ten top <Speech_Female> twenty or <Speech_Female> is there a golfer. We haven't <Speech_Female> talked about that. You really <Speech_Female> like your share out. Share <Speech_Male> some other actionable information <Speech_Female> vets. You've got <Speech_Male> with our <SpeakerChange> and viewers <Speech_Male> place. I <Speech_Male> do really like <Speech_Male> daniel burger <Speech_Male> as well tita <Speech_Male> green. He has been <Speech_Male> unconscious lately. <Speech_Male> Some could say <Speech_Male> he's a bubble boy <Speech_Male> at the moment <Speech_Male> for the ryder cup <Speech_Male> so ways. <Speech_Male> I could invest in burger. <Speech_Male> I'm interested <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> in doing so <Speech_Male> max. It's a great look looking at the odds for the bmw championship. John roms the heavy favorite. Plus five fifty. Is it possible that rahm is overvalued at that price of an and always the number one player in the world. Yeah of course. Because these fedex cup events do feel like they're the hardest tournaments to win on the entire calendar. You could put especially last week up there in terms of difficulty to win up there with a major championship. The thing about is last week. They threw that nine ten to one out. There and the reality of the situation was he was the only player under twenty five thirty two one that contended off a month off and you can make a case. He could have like four straight victories. He won the us open. His putter abandoned him at the scottish open..
