"So Kevin after the Daniel Chara spent the bulk of his career with the Boston Bruins, he spent a year with the Washington capitals last season and is now with the New York islanders, the team that you cover. What was the logic consigning him? Well, they needed a left shot defenseman and the islanders they had made the Conference Finals two years in a row and they were just looking for some depth pieces to surround with their core that they believed could win a Stanley Cup this season and a lot of other people did as well. And what hurt them right away early in the season was Ryan polak, a defenseman got hurt, so there were forced to lean on Chara a little bit more than they had originally anticipated. And you know, it hasn't quite worked out. And that's not char his fault altogether. You know, the team has endured some pretty tough circumstances to go along with stretches of poor play. They start the season with 13 road games because they were opening a brand new building. They struggled during that season opening road trip. Every team it seems has had COVID outbreaks, but this team has had multiple COVID outbreaks. They were one of the earliest teams that had one and the league didn't pause the NHL schedule at that point. They really just made them plow through. That led to more losses. And they just really have never been able to find their footing and get any traction this season. And Chara has been okay. There's definitely some visible sides of him slowing down the feet and the hands and guys getting past them that maybe didn't get past him previously. And there's no denying it. They're just haven't been very good this season. So I do still think they believe in this core. I think assuming they do go on and miss the playoffs, which it would take a miracle to rebound to make the playoffs at this point. I still think they believe in the core for the most part. This isn't a team that's going to blow it up in the off season. They're going to try and retool and if they do that, I think they could come back and still be a very good team next season. Well, despite Chara's not so spectacular play on the ice this year, what's your sense of how he's been impacting this islanders team as a whole? Off the ice in the locker room, that sort of thing. Well, I know that he is really beloved by everyone that's around him. And you know, I think that really comes across in the development of one player this year, no adoption who's a young former first round pick of the islanders who's been paired mostly with Chara. And it's been a little bit of a mentorship role. Dobson is a guy that the islanders were hoping would take that next step in his career this season, and frankly he has. He's been one of the lone bright spots this season. He's really developing into a very good, young puck moving defenseman. They can create offense and be responsible in his own end. And I think he's leaned on Chara big time for advice and Chara, of course, is a guy that can offer him that sort of advice. A guy who's almost 45 years old, showing up at the rink early every day last to leave, being very respectful of all the people around him, very respectful of his teammates, the opposition, officials, but still doing what he has to do on the ice. He drops the gloves against a kid that's, you know, 15 years younger than he is and because they didn't like the way he was running around in the first period. Almost 45 years old and he was throwing him like he was 19 years of age and he landed a couple of real haymakers there and I mean look at the difference in size and then he gets the takedown. I mean that's the mark of a leader right there and that sort of stuff I do believe rubs off on younger teammates. And lastly, Kevin, what does the future hold for zdeno Chara? Will he be back for yet another season? I wouldn't be surprised if Chara says he still wants to play after this season, just because, you know, these guys, when they get that far, they don't want to stop this. Their whole lifestyle. I do believe there might be a team that would be interested in there have been reports too that there are teams that might be interested in acquiring him for a playoff run because he's a guy that can still be, I think, a contributor to a good team just because he can play on the penalty kill. He can still play ten to 12 minutes a night as long as you play him sheltered minutes and you're not putting him out there against players like Connor McDavid or Mitch marner and auston Matthews type. And he can also provide that toughness. You still a guy that will stand up for his teammates and drop the gloves and provide some of that necessary intimidation that only becomes more important than the playoffs. You know, I do believe this could and probably should be the end of the line for chars NHL player. And that's not speaking bad about the guy at all. It's just been a legendary career. He's going to make it till age 45, which is just hard to believe for a guy that size and a guy that, you know, was not a high round draft pick and really had to work himself into becoming an NHL player. I'm just a regular guy on this with you. I'm just trying to do my job and do it well and as best I can and. I love the game. "On Thursday night, zdeno Chara, the tallest man to ever play in the NHL, set a new NHL record. Set to play in game number 1652 the most by an NHL defenseman. Today, the athletics Kevin curves explains how the almost 45 year old Chara went from a lanky overlooked prospect to the NHL's new Iron Man. The fact that he's remained in the league, while these guys have come up and gotten faster, you know, that's forced him to change his game as well. And he's been able to do it. Plus, how his career has come full circle to the team that drafted him. From wondering in the athletic, I'm under skeleton. It's Monday, February 28th, and this is the lead. Kevin Curtis, welcome to the lead. Thanks. Thanks good to be here. So, Kevin, first question here, have you ever stood next to Zanu Chara with or without his skates on? And so what was that experience like for you? Well, I'm not recently because we're still all on Zoom here. So I haven't been in the dressing room early around the guys. I remember seeing him in Las Vegas at the NHL awards show, and that was the first time I had seen him in person. And you know, I've been working in hockey for about 20 years now. And it really is something to see just how massive this guy is. And it's not just tall. He's just a massive human being and it really is something that he's lasted this long just considering just how big he is and how he has maintained all 6 feet and 9 inches of his body. And could you give us a sense of just how unusual it is to get guys of his size or close to it in the NHL? What are the pluses and minuses of being a really big player in the NHL? Yeah, you know, oftentimes guys that are that big, they're not as smooth skaters for obvious reasons. They have trouble with their hands because their hands are so far away from the puck. There have been examples of guys that are big players that are more mobile and more agile than you would maybe expect. So it's pretty rare and he's someone that he had to work on that obviously. He had to overcome a lot of things in order to make himself into an NHL player. And I know we'll get into that in a little bit, but Chara, even when you see him today and you're looking down from the press box where we set, which is how many, how many miles away it feels like sometimes. It's just so obvious that this is the biggest guy in the ice, and obviously the biggest guy to ever play in the NHL. Well, as we mentioned, on Thursday night, Chara became the all time leader in games played by an NHL defenseman, passing former red wing, team I support, Chris chelios, also, I guess I can admit a former Black Hawk. This was during a road game for the islanders in San Jose. What if anything was done to mark the occasion? And what did charter have to say about his accomplishment afterwards? What's unique about where he broke the record is that Patrick marleau, who is a sharks franchise icon, broke the NHL's overall all time games played record last season. So Patrick marleau ended up taping a congratulations message for Chara. And it was a nice touch by the sharks, frankly, they played it in the arena at the first TV timeout. I want to congratulate you on becoming the most games played leader for NHL defensemen. What a great milestone it is. I know you've had to have all the support from your teammates, friends and family to do this along the way. That was a nice touch by the sharks. And, you know, it was the Dano, it was interesting. He was declining all interview requests leading up to breaking the record. Really just out of respect for chelios and I think respect for the record in general. But you could finally see in his face that it really did mean a lot to him. It's such an honor and privilege to be in the same group as many great defensemen. He wanted to talk about Chris chelios, who was obviously a legend in his own right. It was a tremendous player. Amazing leader and obviously, you know, he's such a legend. I think it was telling that rather than talk about himself, he wanted to talk about all the people that helped get him there and all the people around him still. Many, many great teammates, coaches, trainers, Friends, but none of it more and more important support from my wife and my children. You know, he also thanked the sharks for the fact that they stopped play everybody had a nice give him a nice round of applause, the visiting team and that Patrick marleau video they played, I think he was also that was something that was surprising to him and I think he really appreciated that. Well, Kevin hockey fans have known the names zdeno Chara for many, many years now. He first came into the league in the mid 90s, which just blows my mind. But as you recently wrote, his path to becoming an all time NHL great was certainly not written in stone back then. Can you take us back to the mid 90s and explain zeta chars rather unusual path into the NHL? Yeah, well, first of all, he was passed over in the 1995 draft, so nobody took him. And obviously that means he wasn't a true high end prospect. We're not talking about a first round pick, but he developed his game as a junior throughout that next season. And by the time the next draft rolled around, Mike milbury was in charge of the islanders draft and he told me a story about how a scout and islander scout came to him and said, this is a guy we've got to look out. One of our scouts came to me and said, I want you to look at this tape. And it was a tape of charge doing drills with a coach one on one. No game tape or anything else. And you know, move pretty good for a big man. Obviously in the mid 90s, it's not as easy to scout these guys. There's not a whole lot of video. There isn't hours and hours of game tape. Particularly for a player that was in Slovakia, which is, you know, has produced so many players, but not a whole lot. You know, at least at least at that point, Chara is on millbury radar, right? So by the time they have the draft combine, they get a chance to talk to these kids in person, and that was really where I think got a sense of Chara, the person, and not just the hockey player, and millbury was a tough guy. Old school guy played for the Boston Bruins in the 70s, like to drop his gloves. He came to the draft. We interviewed him and I asked him if he could fight, and he said, it's better not to be..

But obviously the Bruins just never stops that that continues on that will always continue on and there's some stuff I want to get to with you today that I think our big story lines pertaining to this team and obviously like I don't just say that lately. I don't usually say things are big when they're not I like to try to keep things. You could Real Life podcast, but this series against Washington is making me see it when it comes to this team and you know, the Bruins are eight games into their season. Now, you guys took us on a Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday. And when we recorded this the Monday night game obviously has not happened yet. That would be crazy. If you were recording this podcast at like 2 a.m. On a Tuesday off, but at any rate, it gives him the season and fluto shinzawa had a piece in the athletic detailing how the Bruins defense is actually improved with Char gone and he gets them how it's more about foot speed and you know lausanne with McEvoy has been different and you know, they're allowing both Defenders to be below the goal line things like that where they didn't really with Char Char was in that front guide and you know you right off Are on the capitals are $6 and three. He looks like a good fit for Washington system. The Bruins are five one and two three points behind the capitals that are even harder to score against them before so far charged departures resulted in wins all around and it got me thinking to the Bruins Miss Chara and Krug at all. I mean, I think if you want to look at it, you know for Towers perspective. I it's one of those situations where you know, he leaves Goes to Washington does not agree with kind of what the pitch was here in Boston like it sucks in that regard in terms of I think Charter if he was here as a guy he could slot in as like, you know, a third parent guy or a guy that you could rest on back-to-back think that'd be great. Right give you had him in the fold office. It's not the case and they've held up. Well is it, you know, it has a defense as a whole held up because you know lowers on and off or like playing out of their minds know I think they've been solid they've had as you would expect the ups and downs of guys kind of put into featured roles. So it's been good and bad but I think if you look at maybe the play of the guy like McAvoy who looks blocked in right now, has been solid girls like when he's been healthy unfortunately hasn't been the case that much has been great. But and I think you'd still get over all the Bruins structures. And how I think as Pluto said the Bruins have been able to tweak kind of how they How They Roll their defense how they deploy the defense and it's wet better results and maybe.

Twenty twenty his throwing at you and your diagnosis fee shower. Just in general this year chara wake me myself for me. I think this. I think perhaps the idea of creating space again. Something that i've that. I've been teaching for years. And it has evolved in what it looks like for me and i think there are times in our lives when we we recognize like truly recognize more than just the thinking about it more than just the theory we feel it we feel the impacts of these things in our bodies and for creating space has been a really big part of my practice of living my practice of living like i love myself and my practice of yoga. It's been about slowing things down. It's been about simplifying things. So taking a lot of things out and i suppose in the wider sense it has been out giving myself the space to retreat to kind of step back from things even if it's just for a few minutes a day or in a small way as opposed to kind of going on retreat. Or 'cause i haven't really gone. I'm really gone anywhere this year. I haven't really left the house. Basically and so yeah. I think that space that idea of making space as a or creating space as an intention and as a practice has been a big part of. What's been what's supported me through this year right. Answer i'd i'd say a similar thing i think for me. It was the power of no. I'm really greedy person already for life and with people like on board. I'm like can. I have half your life too because i'm one of the good things having a cancer diagnosis. I always joking. I'm from new york. So i'm like lipa so i have to do that making light of it is i don't have to do anything on. Wanna do not one single thing and that is incredibly freeing. Because it's like yeah. I just think that. I don't know i think about mudiay. Conde condo or the sparkle joy lady. Go that does he give you his arc of joy and i'm doing that's arguing. Join taste with lots of things. And if i don't have it just like just go home from whatever it is not do it and and not just say yes to all the work of all the output or even all the input so i could have done tons and tons of learning online. I couldn't. I just looked at things and thought. I can't integrate that. I need space. And that is exactly what which are saying so that somehow that really clarified what i was going to allow us to come in and to and i had i had perfect. Excuse i can do what i want to wants my life. I guess.

I'm looking forward to the the queue getting ramped up again. So it's looking like January 22nd, you know, the queue is going to get started. So lots of Maritime movement during the trade. Here and the Charlottetown Islanders looking to load off. You know push for the Presidents Cup, so tons of great hockey and tons of great prospects coming out of the maritimes before we get into the the ruins talk and two particular players that young players that you've seen in the past throughout the Q as a scout. I do want to get your thoughts on the return to play on the NHL you excited about this and with training camps for the Boston Bruins tomorrow things have certainly ramping up and and schedules being made. So it's it's definitely going to happen. So just want to get a quick thought on your excitement and and and hopefully to watch some game soon. Well, I think it's fantastic the NHL and and again opinions are like noses. Everyone has one. I think the the NHL have have done a tremendous job at coordinating everything and making sure the players and all the Personnel are safe and I think that's first and foremost. They did it in the playoffs with the bubble people were critical of other. It's never going to work. They made it work Mark and I think it's tremendous what they've done. Hopefully everyone and all the teams stay healthy and abide by all the regulations. I think it's really exciting that you know, Canada is going to to have its own Division. I think it's phenomenal that the Canadian government are making some you know, stretching the rules a little bit right now to to ensure players and travel and that type of thing so fingers crossed just hopefully every everyone stays safe and I think from an NHL perspective they've done a fantastic job plus I think off outdoor games will will definitely kind of lend itself to to more excitement building up but you know, obviously with chart of the departures Zdeno Chara training camp is going to look different. Everything is going to look different from the Boston Bruins perspective. Absolutely and let's just get right into it off of the reasons why I follow you you just tremendous person in general. That's first and foremost, but the second thing is the best thing about you is is I I value your opinion because you're a guy that does the grind and wants to get in the back and actually see the action happen before you report it. You're not one of the stats guys that goes onto the many websites and and just pick some polls for Content you do the grind and get.
"chara" Discussed on Black N' Gold Hockey Podcast
"Play two truths and a lie the other day now Zdeno Chara is not twenty not he's a dental chair. He's not going to say anything particularly bad. But if we're going to play who's telling the truth and I hear Sweeney say, we just want to go younger and faster and like we offer this but then you have charlse. They told me out that they want to go younger. I respect that. I'm believing Zdeno. Chara's were overdone Sweeney's. This point and that's just those two What markets said about people flipping out? I think that's part of what the flip out is. Maybe it's not obviously it is z as in our Captain's Log. In Washington, like you said a team that's on the back side of it if you think Washington can't punch and maybe win the Stanley Cup, you're wrong. You know, it's like Pittsburgh when it gets to play off time. You always like oh God, like, you know the milk Bill figure out how to get there. So I just want to say in this goes to the Sweeney and whatever I don't I don't think it's necessarily the player's egos that are getting in the way and I only think that because there's nothing I am going to talk about some of these kids can step into these rules. But I also am looking at the choices and thinking anybody who's not looking at even if you sign shower cheap or you figured out how to keep prove that this defense hasn't taken a serious step back is in denial. Like I'm all for we can agree. We're on a rebuild or whatever. But like if you honestly think you wouldn't rather have the day no Chara one more year oratory group. Yeah, so that's all I want to say. I don't think it's the player's egos necessarily that are getting in a way at this point. So I don't mean to digress. It's just enough to say that good point. That's a good point. What what what troubles me is the fact is that he's going to Washington for the same role that the Boston Bruins offered him and that 750,000. So there's a lot of vague issues that are going on with this conversation off and I've reached out to some sources myself and I've gotten the feeling that I think that what happened to Torey Krug might have put a an awful taste in some of these lawyers miles so that could be the I just want to move on. I'm tired of this this crap that's going on. So it is what it is. But anybody out there that's thinking that he's going to be a top parenting in Washington. Sorry. I mean you got to do your due diligence and ask some of these people that cover the Washington Capitals on a regular reach out and ask them cuz he's not he's not. No, he's not. No, he's not here. He's certainly not dead. Carlson and he's probably going to play with like to meet you are a lot for someone and who knows third pair maybe second pair of people get hurt or whatever but it's fun with the around the same role. That's what I'm saying about. The role would have been roughly the same with the Bruins is someone gets hurt. I mean, he just you know, he's durable. He'll play all the time. So he'll be in there at some point. I will say this though and this is to your point mark That's the hometown discounts are no longer offer like John Sweeney's been getting away with Grand Theft larceny when it comes to getting his own players to.

"Like a team like Colorado, I guess Stanley Cup favorite or something like that. I don't know how long You just you know packs up and goes to Colorado for a year, especially this year, we're travel and all and all this stuff with his family settled here. I don't see of that being a situation for him to do a a move like that. Even if you know a team was to give an offer like that and then you look at maybe he with Colorado he'd be kind of the same really be here. Right as a third parent kind of depth guy. Does he want to go to Ottawa, you know back where you know, it seemed that he he played with previously to get top pairing minutes at 43 years old. Maybe that's what he wants to do again. Do you want to deal with all of the you know, they kind of bulshit of moving around and doing this stuff this year, especially for a team. It's not that good like you kind of go through scenarios and it seemed like the most likely situations either comes back, which is I feel like the Bruins are still more or less waiting for him to give his his decision more than them. Being like our HR like, you know, we're not answering your phone calls. We're moving on I can feel like big growth. Yeah. Yeah. I feel like they want to see what what he's thinking first, but I would person be surprised if he signs elsewhere, especially if the hang-up is minutes or roll. I don't know how you know, maybe he does prioritize that and he goes to it a bootleg team like Jose Jose or something like that, but I would just be a kind of a disappointing end to a a fantastic tenure here right if you just goes elsewhere just because there's more minutes with a team that has no chance of getting close to playoffs this year. Yeah. I I wouldn't understand that move again. You're forty-three. You're you're uprooting your family to Ottawa San Jose like it doesn't make any sense specially in a pandemic to me. It makes us from retire. If this doesn't work out if the Bruins are kind of like, we really don't have a spot for you just retire. I don't know why like you've had the career you have the Stanley Cup, you know, you're a first-ballot hall-of-famer. Bye. Are you know one of the greatest ever ended there? But again as we know Chara there's anyone who wouldn't do that. It is a day no charge himself. But yes, I don't see him going like the Toronto Maple Leafs wage or you know, the the New York Rangers. I just I don't see it happening would be very odd to see Chara and like a different uniform after all these years, you know out there hobbling around for like the the Arizona Coyotes but at any rate that is today's Bruins beat Conor before he goes or anything that you would like to plug. Yeah. We're going to keep on breaking down this roster, especially with training camp currently slated to start this upcoming weekend. So I will be breaking down break out candidates a few of the press and questions facing the team of what training camp gets underway. Could this offseason be pivotal for Don Sweeney?
"Could be like if we want to go there this could be the second most pivotal offseason. Don Sweeney's tenure is Jim Morrison would be I mean, yeah, we obviously know what the the first one was some hits some misses I'll defend on Thursday and say people forget the meal music trade was was very solid but should it be his want this could be kind of the offseason wear off he shakes it up and there's been there's been little shit shaking in the Don Sweeney tenure really other than that 2015 offseason where he kind of came in and moved Hamilton moved Lucic got the Draft Picks 6 in the first two rounds. We all know the story there but dead. This could be like the next kind of version of that obviously not as big but like if you look at where the Bruins are, I mean what happens with Krug? What happens with Chara those to move up itself are pretty franchised altering. And then from there there's obviously been the the Rask rumors. I I wouldn't be surprised if something happened with Rask because we we should never be surprised by anything that happens with Rask anymore. And this point that's the case. This was like a weird enough year and obviously with it happened in the the postseason like There's so much uncertainty surrounding that player that that nothing that happens with him with surprise me. So yeah between Krug we think departing who knows what happens with Chara. I think the flu tone made a really great point that was sort of an obvious point that we've all been kind of sleeping on like it is possible that Chara reaches free agency and who knows if the Bruins have or anything with him maybe a team jumps in and they're like, hey, man, you're the missing piece like this is your what what we need and maybe yeah, maybe he just maybe he departs so possibilities are plentiful and I haven't even gotten to the Do they make like a real hockey trade? Do they trade Jake debrusk? They trade Brandon Carlo. My pie-in-the-sky thing that will never happen is like they find a way to make Carlos the centerpiece of a Patrick line a deal which financially and for other reasons just does not seem like something they would do but oh my God, I have been banging the table to get more scores on this team and if they found a way even if it's losing Carlo in an offseason where you also lose Krug, like imagine if I thought they had Patrick lyonnet David pastrnak and like imagine having three of the best goal scorers in the planet on your team

"Get your bonus. Hannah with one and I forget people forget. So yes that and do everything that, just said so we hit on it a little bit and Thursday Chara saying he wants to come back and this it's funny. It felt like he was going to we when both said this last week felt like he was going to retire after that game the way I'm talking about him like he was dead the way. Basically eulogized him as if he was about to draw get on the ice like a soliloquy. I was like what the hell is going on here, like any profession believe so if you give me a moment long as I need to we need to talk about the humanity I said, they don't Chara. I mean that was sort of what it was like how like every dog impression. It's like every single one of them are not ripping you but it sounds like a guy who's calling like the 1919 World Series like it's that hires that that has him like, it's just very like deep in your throat. I mean, I can trip on play-by-play As I could never be a play-by-play person he'll know but that's why I chose writing. But so what's what's crazy is he comes out and he chart was in a really good mood for that accident like heaven Bergeron were the first two on Thursday and they were great moods Chara especially Chara was you know, laughing it up and you know, he took time at the end of the exit interview to thank everyone for how long for what's it called for staying in the bubble of being committed shot in super asked not getting but so saying he wants to return and I said this a little bit earlier, but what if your thoughts been on Shore up probably returning to Bruins, I'm forty-three years old. Yeah. I mean, think you look at it and just like, you know how they're going to approach it and if he's back and it's like I don't get the people who will like, you know, he's washed up..

"So the owns the record people should record section yoursel time. That's what it is. All about presents the Stanley Cup is exactly something Cup is going to really enhance some of these guys these Tim Thomason, Linda greatest. Bruins goalie ever. He played what like four years, technically. So too has better postseason numbers does exact. But I think with those three guys they mentioned chara Berge. Bergereon tuba, adding a Cup does. Candidacy rights shivers your runs in. It's tough. I think everyone loves Berge on regardless, like no matter what everyone has an incredibly high opinion of him was chara definitely helped him. I'm not sure if he's a top ten defenseman like look at the whole list slowed, I doubted, probably top fifteen maybe I think that's fair. I think so, okay. So to probably seventy I think you could actually, but you could take a serious look at it. I mean, we'd have to do it. There's another show. We can do. We're gonna do a lot of context with Bob your then you go. I mean he would be the third best defenceman in the history. Well, maybe in the fourth best defense in the history of the franchise, buying or Bork and Eddie shore, and then it would be probably chara, but when you say it moves sim, significantly almost of all time, defense gets a second other than the goaltender the cups, obviously are important, but it's not like quarterbacks and football with you win a second Super Bowl. Now you you get. Moved up with goalies. Yes. Legacy. We'd need to talk about is David Krejci 'cause I feel like we don't talk about him enough. How important he has then for the ruins organizations? It'd be his second Cup too. And he has been there this entirely good. He's been in the postseason. They've remember I think it was ten when lost flyers eight three elite blue that happened with David Krejci got her right. They go as he goes. It's no coincidence. Stanley Cup Playoffs Daily: Bruins sweep their way into final
"The bruins didn't have captains dino chara for game four against carolina hurricanes in eastern conference finals the stanley cup and to grass basically said so pitches the second straight shutout in an elimination game he has been unbelievable as boston is now gone almost one hundred days without a championship they may be closing in on another one as boston sweeps carolina oddly enough four to nothing in for Games. It's a bummer for their captain and char- who who had played ninety eight straight playoff game. The last one miss Lewis two thousand eleven two thousand thirteen when I I'm drying quick blank on the year but he ninety eight straight playoff game but took a Rask has been incredible. They've now won seven games in a row. They're trying to get to the record. They did have nine playoff games in a row. Now was back in nineteen seventy two. All they did that year was when the Stanley

New Blood Type Discovered
"I. big things the Justice communications. Network for make this. Show happen thanks Jason who's working the dials and thanks. For tuning in we, really, appreciate, it Follow us on Twitter Dr Dalia. Facebook deduct. The w show so I guess we may have. A new blood type And doctors. In. India have, discovered a new blood. Type not a not a not oh but p no Now I know that. Confuses the hell out of AME it's hard enough for me to learn about all these blood type says, it is, don't give me. New, stuff to learn Yeah you know they came up with a new geometric shape and now we. Got to talk about that I'm like really please don't. Don't come up with anything new I am barely keeping it all together with all the stuff that I gotta learn now Oh what's interesting about this is there was a gentleman who I believe was an accident And this isn't India and he needed a blood transfusion pretty urgently so they typed and. Crossed, by typing and crossing what that means is they grab a sample of his blood And then they look at the blood that they have in the hospital and they find a perfect match Well after about eighty units they couldn't find a perfect match, for this guy so the hospital sent his blood to the international blood, group reference laboratory in the UK And they found out that he had the phenotype p p No it wasn't it was his blood but but the type has gone And It's. Unique it's a, unique let's, say So most of us fall under a b. av and and. Just to quickly review what that, means if you have type a blood then you have these little baby antigens on the outer surface or. The membrane of your. Red blood. Cell they look. Really cute They look a little baby and just red. Blood cells are door Yeah I wrote an, article of my websites you. Can check it out if you want but they're just so cute So have you have type, a blood you got an But then have? Antibodies against b Or a b blood you won't be able to accept beer AB blood because you, only have a antigens Taibbi blood I'm The Ulaby, antigens but then you'll have antibodies against a an. AB AB has both a and, b which is why you. Can't if in an, immunologist It's all or nothing you have to, have only the exact type of antigen but. If you have some of what you have and. Then some others next to what, that aren't now it's not. Gonna work for you If you, have a b- blood yet both AM be if you're type oh you don't have the antigens your red, blood cell is kind of naked And they're so. Cute type of blood cells over liberal cute So if you're typo you don't have antigens on your blood So, somebody would type a type b era I won't fight it So if you're typo you. Are a universal donor We. Love if he'll type of blood type of blood we. As a blood Bank, will not let you sleep Again please I'm not a, blood Bank but one day I would love to own a. Blood Bank, I mean oh, my, God I I want to help these things. Out You know I they what they do to save lives I you, know I'm really into the blood and stuff so type, oh people are universal donors but let's say. You have a b-. Blood if you have. A b- blood your universal, recipient because you have a and b antigens. Then, you can take any blood Abe leads you. Could be blood you can, take blood so if you're type av you are one lucky. Puppy if, you're type oh, you're, the most popular you're the most wanted But, you're not that lucky. You guys remember that What was it The eighty yeah remember. Mr. t. yeah You know he had type of blood and. The only blood he was Murdoch's blood I. Don't. Want the crazy juice Yeah so anyway, so I have an article written on my. Website you guys could check it out then you have the RH, systems the, abo system for a and b antigens but then you have the h.. And the our age there are Most commonly and if you have then you're. RH positive if you don't have the energy into our age negative So if you are a be negative you could Again I don't know, if you're a. Be positive you can take anybody's but, it's wonderful If your own negative if. You have O-negative blood. We really really want it because you have no. Antigens. On, there so I'm be positive so I have, jen's and our h, engines Saint okay So what happens if, you give me type a blood. Taibbi why can have a transfusion reaction so what. Ends up happening is my immune system will start to. Fight and once my immune, system starts, to attack blood you get a lot of casualties so. You start losing a. Lot of blood cells so basically can worsen your. Anemia So. We don't want transfusion reactions now There. Are over two hundred minor group antigens other than abo RH. Abo and RH aren't the only ones so it's not a. Complete shock that this guy in India Had p no which was a very very rare new blood. Type identify because not everything has a b. o. r. h. But here's the problem He'll have a transfusion reaction if we give them, what we commonly have which means they need, to start a registry try to find other people, with p no blood so they could, give it to him or would he has to do, is once he's healthy start donating his old lied and have him save. It for future use that's tough because bled really only lives on the shelf. For forty two days we really don't, like to freeze blood So what happened to, the guy well according to cure on chara professor of Orthopaedics they performed. A quote blood less surgery they did a fracture of femur they did a. Repair that a repair his fever fracture And they did that once they were able. To raise his hemoglobin to a? Desired, level using other medications so my guess is, they gave him some, sort of blew. A blood boosting like throw poet. In other sorts of stuff to help boost his blood Matriarch plenty of fluids and then. Waited until he was he built up enough blood to do the surgery pretty, scary stuff so that's how blood types of work and you know it It's, pretty frightening to think that, there's that much art to it that there's that, much you know that much has to go, into you know that has to go into thought you know before, we give a transfusion that's why it is so. Detrimental that, you know we have people constantly. Available to donate blood and if you guys can't donate blood at least host to drive look, what's happening to California. With a car fire you know. We're having thousands of people displaced these are not, people that are. Going to be able to donate blood. On a regular basis And we have people who. Are now, burn victims that need blood so. We need you to donate blood or host to drive if you can't donate blood that's fine Host to drive it doesn't cost you. Any money the American Red Cross United blood services or your local blood banks does all, the work You know you just have to kind. Of spread the word to go, look is we're doing a blood drive, and then we collect as much blood as possible And then you know the. Blood banks prepare it and then it's, ready to be shipped or to be used locally National budget nation week, is going to be coming up September fourth through the tenth we already have multiple states have claimed blood donation days reach out your local governor and ask him to proclaim a blood donation day if he has it And reach out. To me if. You think, you can. Host a blood drive it is that easy if you're working the blood drive let me know I will find the nearest blood Bank that'll, help host it it's a piece of cake everybody gets cookies they get jus. It's really really fun One eight seven seven one eight seven seven deal. CD a. l. I we're. Talking about condoms. The other day. Because the, CDC had Issued a warning that our. Condom cleaning practices are a. No no you're not supposed to reuse turn it inside out or clean the condom not supposed to do this was throw it. Out now we're being told. That, Durex, condoms has had, to, be recalled because, there's, an issue where they may split don't go away we'll be right back.
