Late Leipzig Victory Heats up Title Race

"We'll stop in the bundesliga. We thought no leipzig get thrown away. The opportunity to keep pushing by munich. There were two knelt down halftime against borussia moenchengladbach but a brilliant second half performance and a late goal from soil with see them beat god back by three goals to to to continue to put the pressure on bind at the top of the table. Janocko fuel itself is with us yet. Thank goodness we still have a title race. Just thank goodness to halftime. There was so many analyzes marker also sorting out gladbach. There will be calm now before he takes over. And then livesey made the bundesliga excited for two minutes with the irony at halftime. But thank god. Thank god for everybody. Neutral love love the bundesliga. There was fantastic. Second half of our show and they slowly came back. Glad back more tired had some chances on contracts but policy and kuku and solo there so many attackers. It's lives. You haven't score enough goals after chicken and van left them after last season but they produce tonight and we haven't excitement we have. We have a tight race in germany. Dan could you imagine. Say those words. I know i don't know very much unlikely. After the to say bad in the first half. Yeah yeah their web bad but but say having said that. I mean they had a ball the lot. They didn't create a lot gluck. Unbelievable efficient mcconnell had one of those half where look like the most clumps defender being around after being the most attractive defender around and toronto and half on peres demanded to nil and everything look like well typical vion after their gala show earlier on the day and now we have this situation fribourg against lives on friday if they win that top of the league at least for twenty four hours then the big game between via munich endorsements says you mentioned yance still two point separates vine and live sick. Let's switch attention to that wind show for buying a day. They were certainly facts that the way this game ended you. They could just keep scoring. Every few minutes on the will keep on scoring. I mean live on dose keno. Getting closer to that magic gaffe miller torty goals in a season scoring two goals today but there was a whole wasn't ed when they played their home three three losing in frankfurt against eintracht. And then they're back to the norm. Winning high in champions league winning five one against cologne. it's not like five or six goals better than them on the page but they just so efficient gerrad sky. Think a ended up with three assists. Today nabu just scoring for fun. Uneven ship matang scoring so i mean by will be all the way of the understatement of the nights at just into content main if levin dusky reaches at forty gaumont. It's unbelievable because then you compare yourself with the best goal Of all time and yes you could say the by a munich was fantastic. But you can say the same about this team. I mean we are talking about whole on emba- pay silva or were all these goalscoring sensations around europe the moment but levin dose gays to complete striker but the the goal getter part of his game is unbelievable to he's hungry and passionate for goals is unbelievable and you saw the way to the goals. Today you had a you finally got. Thomas miller on to fourteen seconds to make an assist for him. I just turned around. He knows all the time where where he is on the full patriots and if he beats the record i still doubted but he's getting closer meanwhile bruce feldman turning on in the second half in proved to be a comfortable win in the end. I'll tell you what twenty twenty one jaden sanitary. It's very different than twenty. Two thousand nine hundred and sounds like christmas press the reset. Button is incredible. Twenty twenty cents show. At least the half of it was very influenced with all that happened around us some monsters united being on the phone all the time. Hundred and twenty million hundred million europe but now he's on fire and the way he's playing at the moment he's playing with all his strength all the passionate he's running all the time he's body. Language is turn like hundred and eighty degrees unbelievable. I also today. I a writer who scored that goal. And i think that that sums up the way dole put his playing at the moment ailing all on. I'm not sorry. Putting in northern region after solo scored for for leipzig later tonight. But but then allen all on one against one against goalkeeper typically get up. We'll try himself. Just give it the ball away. And i think that sums up that door at the moment. They won three games in a row. Intense being under pressure as being a lame duck after the appointment of mark but they are back on track another only three points behind eintracht frankfurt for that very very valuable champions league place for they make it. Yeah yes. I think they will. Because i don't think well eleven games eintracht frankfurt had and with no losses i winston role. Then losing it to to bremen and as long as they can keep on winning these kind of games which has been difficult for them. They're lower teams like being felt today. They will keep on doing it but mind you next game. It's frankfurt against got. That could be a frankford. Win on there and Munich and then we can have that six points again. Because volts berg are winning games just like behind everybody under the radar of everybody of body so they could end up taking place in the bundesliga

Who Needs the Europa League Title Most?

"Here's your to win. The europa league manchester united installed his early favorites. Actually co-favorites with spurs english teams. One two three even arsenal getting a better odds to in the euro league van c milan. Let's focus in on those three english clubs specifically their managers. Craig i'll start with you. Which is three need to win the europa league. Most i suppose seventy one hundred in milan because the book is going through. That could be the only reason i passed. Thank josiah marines. When there's the most. Because i think he's the mine under most pressure. His league possession at moment stinks the team's performances have been pretty rotten in terms of on the eye on the country mile off the top four. At one point the talk was others team in the title race and so he needs to deliver something otherwise. He's under severe pressure. I mean you could say well attack. The does he's got cut behind them transition to ask no. I think he's pretty safe there and they talk for. There's no doubt about so. I actually think marinas the mon- needs it. The most stevie you agree they still got a shot at hardware in the league cup final. They got a shot at top six. Maybe an outside shot at top four spurs really. Need this most absolutely think so. Yeah arsenal. yeah we think point lead over you. He's he's got an f. e. cop behind them less than two months ago so he's fine creek said during transition marino. Another honda is is is not in my opinion going to be in the top four. That's why he was brought and it wasn't brought in to do anything else so it's important that he does produced. So we're because that will deflect away from what has jaw was and the premier league and unfortunately for him yes. He's a the problem is they'll position gsa city who nobody wants to face. So i'm one hundred percent we create. This is absolutely marino. And tom mark from the manchester united perspective. Just how important is this to jar. His record and cup. Tournaments is well documented over four in finals. Big without first trophy be. I think it needs to win one soon. Because it's now four years when united trophy on a long time and they always have the opportunity in the kaaba cup of one. One that need is more than tottenham because five years at the champions league. The asked really really the champions football. I it's sick of being semi-finalists are knocking on the door. They're not gonna win the primarily this season to trophies. This is man united. We're talking about. We're talking about the process itself alongside by munich real madrid barcelona as one of the biggest club in the world. The biggest clubs in the world win trophies and is now four years since one. United one one-stroke trophy with the minor the minor cops. Let's be honest. The league company europa league in two thousand seventeen. They haven't won a big trophy since whilst explosion retired. Let's be honest. The two thousand thirteen primarily because even fa co-ops and the von hall didn't really count towards the biggest trophy so united. Need over the start winning again. And i think social really needs it but if he doesn't win a trophy this season i don't think it'll be the end of their old firm. I think you'll still be there. But i do think the to kick on become this team is going to challenge for the majors. They have to win something. So craig no no i just think off the bucket marks point that yet yeah financially obstacle. But we're talking about modules marina for the reasons that steve and i say and and say well and it's a big f because it's not you know some good teams in there. They say it was a year in the league and we lost hurricane and we will see all these excuses. You'll save won the europa league a nuts champions league football because that's the carrot dangled for when the euro league note from a united perspective. As augie said you know when you're polite for them and their historical standpoint is neither here in the last good marino himself. He delivered second-place mandated. Emily he delivered the gop league undesirable cup. So they've done recently. They really need to be the primarily title at least go neck and neck all the way until publiz reasons you take a trophy as a manager and you would take if you united but really the dining a much. Bigger table than the europa league

"Committee espn fc. Shock his lops fashion. Salazar with you in studio shock. I don't know if you saw yesterday's show. We had a heated discussion over whether the of religion have been reduced to ten men against round madrid in the champions league. We will keep that debate going a little bit later today. Show some different faces to mix it up steve nicol. We'll be by for that joining us now. Though stuart robson julian laurent don hutchison. It is thursday which most importantly mean shaq is power rankings. Most importantly means europa. League will start in greece for arsenal. Beat benfica come from behind in this one. They went three to two advanced. Four three on aggregate a bombing with a couple of goals. Kieran tierney As well jill's. I'll start with you. Just how big was this for arson to advance the round of sixteen in europa league the result of course and qualifying but also the fact that they came from behind. He's he's been very very rare season. I think he was only the second time where they went behind and then ended up winning again we against southampton in the league. The game saint. Mary's but apart from that every time they were behind every time they considered. I couldn't come back and win it so to do that logically would be huge tonight. Plus also the quantification the momentum before the game leicester on sunday and also of course the two goes for obama. Young and the to assists for psychiatry. And i think we need to find you. Were to qualify an amazing player. Bouquets in one thousand nine dong cossack is he. I think he's that best plass sevi- mono people say about me on gets the goals and they rely on. His goal is true. But i think when i watch young suck apply. I think he's got a lot look at his temperament. Look at the way he plays the game. You can tell. Light loves playing football. He's got smile on his face. He's a choose infectious at the training ground when he's playing but talent wise he's got a wonderful less or you can goes pass. Players phone can go either way. Turn the pace again. He works back. He's got a lot really. I mean he must be a manager's dream robbo arsenals best player. he's right up. Two games in the corrected goes for obama yang and that was the difference between the two sides been fieger. I thought place nice football today. But they had no cutting edge going forward whereas cutting edge liquid trying to break off sidelines. Saka was coming in it and those little round the corner obama gang trying to running behind whereas been fake. If all that good fly times just had no cutting edge shocker arsenal just getting it down today just but last questions about about soccer. Yes he in my mind. He is arsenal's best and most important and ask those third goal goal. That takes them to the next round sums it up one more the defender a couple of crossovers defended doesn't know whether he's going to go. Righto left come back onto onto left and picks a fight bullets. Who just onsides 'cause on maybe man because of his two goals headlines but but for me also is a vote soccer and so much of their good plea comes from from his unpredictability from just clever. He is on the ball and for me without question. That teams suffers most without without saka more than anybody else other

Can Liverpool Snap Their Slump?

"Liverpool coming off a result midweek in the champions league thought when we focus on their league form not so great. They've lost three straight for merely outscored eight to two in those matches. Stevie the league form not good but can we throw it out the window based on what you saw. Mid week. Leipzig to be honest. I'm gonna base on scene from evan. Rather than what. I've seen from liverpool. I think we know liverpool. Golden played good football. Hopefully they're going to create. The question is what we take chances. And kinda and that's been their mantra. I think this is over. Evan up until i go a bed the smaller and looked and looked to see what had been said for months. You'll autobahn and use a kind of changed my opinion because i was very comfortable when i went to bed. Before the fact that culvert loons black. You've got allenbach. You got hamas who. I think we'll play as well. So they've kind of a as well as liverpool getting a little bit of a kick from winning against light shake evans going to get a little spot as well for most three at the same time. I don't think is going to be an awful thing. Liverpool will take it a business. You mentioned what carlo ancelotti said. You're in club downplayed this earlier but the reverse fixture of this is where virgil van. Dyke got hurt. We'll liverpool's players be thinking about that. Is that at all a factor in this absolutely not liverpool of other things to worry about right now with those vendettas. And when you stop doing that that affects your game when you start worrying about getting a kick it somebody or gone around and tried to get one on the that's going to affect you as you said liverpool too many other problems where they can. They can do things so i i don't think will have any whatsoever correct. Speaking those other liverpool problems basically been a coin flip over the last couple of months which liverpool we get and it's not really between good and bad. it's between feast and famine and look. There's a clear fight for the top four here between a few teams what one of which up until a couple of games ago look it might be able to make still be but clearly live for sure. I'm not going to catch. Set has been questioned whether anybody will catch them but settling from where pearl are so. There's a clear fight for the top. Four and i think they'll be buoyed by their performance and mid week but i'm with stevia. Initially islanders probably going combat but he's lacking much shoppers. Rodriguez is a talent. But he's not particularly away from home. A place like lever put and going to get the ball here because everton do that home in a way. They often the lawyers for as what liver poke can do with an ev. You know the such a hard team to read it. Belet lasted in a sense. Have lost some crazy games as she are still up there. Everyone had i think the three games in hand up until a week or ten days ago and then they lost home to fill them the loss home to set these kind of expected. The hong end then brushed aside. But i could see lever. Pull getting a result here purely going to dominate the game. And i think eventually it will break down. Of course they're gonna watch learn these pace and behind running the johnson. That's a weak point for liverpool at the moment. But i just feel with us. Top four limited as real. Fight that lever pill get the job done here and could run together to get themselves in their shock. Everton haven't beaten liverpool since two thousand ten have one at anfield since one thousand nine hundred ninety nine. This feels like as good a chance chances. They're going to get ride. No all records falling as far as liverpool is concerned in particular over recent weeks. That format downfield. Now i'm different from the voice. I'm sitting around the fence but leaning everton. I just feel as good. A result was against rb leipzig. Maybe a little bit expected especially given i felt. I thought i'd be like coming into this. A little bit light up front and maybe not threatening liverpool anywhere near as much as you would thought but with covid louis coming back. In particular that make centre-half paramount liverpool will be relying on on henderson. I just feel about their goals for forever time here and as a see i'm sitting on the inside but leading everton i just don't see a liverpool win.

"Craig. It was just six minutes of madness. Wasn't it yeah and sort of madness. I think exemplifies season. Yes they are of the title race. Those maybe not be but they are fighting donald for the top four. I mean a couple of teams that can go within a point of them with the game and honduras botham three points behind them with thank three games in hans. They've got a real gunfight for the champions league places next year the injuries of taken toll the were way to open nicotrol. The game from most parts play some nice stuff again and scored a wonderful goal. But they've been so open at the bark and vowed a couple of opportunities in the falstaff and when the opportunity came along and the second half of course another calamity the buck. I don't think i could believe what you see it on the sidelines. But that's the reality of it. That's the have claimed. Playoff possession bring yang suzanne. And as i say after a fantastic couple years. They're fighting as shop for frank. How do you explain what happened in that second half once. Alas scored brilliant assists from amino. You thought this is good for liverpool. They should go on to win this game and then just well. It's food war. We would say. But i i i wonder if one vandyke would have been the central defense it would have been the same story and maybe the conclusion of what happened the all season long for liverpool that they lost too many main players To make sure that it could compete with the others. Nothing to do with scott back. I think i did the job. But at least on who has been absolutely perfect for liverpool add to dreadful games And cost kind of six points to two to liverpool and six very important points. he cannot football with. Sometimes you don't know what's going on you know. Even if you have very experienced players the case of anderson's than i do and some others could be enough to to win a game away from home again. The dominated putting sixty their mind and the lost game so stupidly. I will say that there is nothing else to say but while let's see next season because there's nothing to expect from the from neva put until the end of the season. I think as mentioned again another mistake from allison of course after those two big mistakes and managed to city match as well from coach's perspective. How do you deal with that. what. I'm sure that you klopp kind of sits down has a maybe a couple of coffee with him or or maybe even a beer and talk through those mistakes and that just normal is a is a human being there will be moments where you make mistakes and and obviously cost him because a malaga an because Obviously mentioned the city is is kind of just flying away on their way to the title and nobody can stop them and liverpool is going through some some difficult moments. But it's also understandable as frank said. You know it's all dykes injury. And then other injuries kind of got ended on and and for three years they played mos amazing football on the planet. They were flying. I always call him up. Two hundred mph and and it's it's it was so enjoyable or is still enjoyable to watch them but it's it's normal that it comes now a period of time where things don't work out the they're not gonna win the championship for sure not But there's still have to get into the champions league. I mean you've got to give leicester a huge compliment for the season that they play So far but but when things like that happen. Individual mistakes happen especially a goalkeeper. You just need to to be with him. You gotta gave him all the support in the world and and Have a talk with him and and make sure that he kind of refocuses and and put it out of his mind because it it always. The next game is in a few days again

Riot Games Reports League of Legends Worlds Viewership for 2020

"No secret that League of Legends world's is the most watch E sports event every year but the absolute massive gap between worlds and other events is all staggering to see this morning right games reported an average minute audience or AMA of twenty-three million as an increase of about 1.2 million / 2019. They also reported a peek concurrent viewership of forty six million viewers and over 1 billion total hours watch over the entire course of the tournament e Sports viewership can be confusing to track given the difference between a streaming platforms track viewers and how TV networks do so. So Riot and Activision Blizzard brought in Nielsen to provide the average minute audience or am a stack the stat is directly comparable to other he's dead. Events who use AMA and to traditional sports events and their TV ratings any sports Activision Blizzard's announced AMA for the OverWatch League finals was 2.9 Million globally. That's just a little bit over 10% of what world's received. It's no wonder o w l team owners are in conversations to get partial refunds from a Beyond those lofty team by ends, but worlds was also higher than most traditional sports events as well. The 2020 MLB World Series saw an average of about ten million viewers per game. So about half of League of Legends world. The NBA finals were even worse averaging about 7 and 1/2 hours per game. It should be said that the World Series was in line with previous historical averages while the 2020 NBA Finals was an anomaly only seeing about half of the viewership. We saw over the five finals before it off other events of League of Legends world's beat included the NHL finals, which was at two million viewers and gulps the Masters at about six million viewers. There are only a small handful of sporting events drawing more viewers than League of Legends at home. Point Wimbledon Tennis is about 28 million viewers the Superbowl sits around a hundred million viewers every year and then the Champions League finals which neared five hundred million viewers back in 2019. I believe a bunch of other soccer events are probably over that number as well, but I didn't go through all the regional leagues. This does not include events that happen every four years like the Olympics the soccer World Cup or the Cricket World Cup, which are all well overly of Legends as well. Still you can see why league is attracted so much attention and brought in so many Brands. It's in really lofty company with numbers like this. It's all first episode of the Esports minute. He was the first power figure that united the world of football says kantor everyone regardless of their nationality wanted to see him play because of his magic. He made argentina famous around the world. He made napoli famous around the world. It's very hard for any reader to understand what he meant for. Napoli the very poor southern city in italy that no one paid attention to and suddenly this kid put napoli on the map playing soccer and rebelled against the industrial north and beat the powerhouses of milan and event events. A million people now say they were there. But i really was. I promise mel talked to his niece in buenos aires on wednesday she said the streets were eerily silent like a cemetery during the day of madonna's death but nineteen eighty six argentina england world cup quarter-final the game in which maradona certified his legend carried particular significance for argentina following the nineteen eighty two falklands war england prevailed in the military conflict with argentina over sovereignty of the archipelago. "Allie moreno joins us alley weeping harsh real madrid and rightly so but they pulled a performance. I when it was needed today yet. They did and even before the red card happened. I thought that the we're far better than inter Deploying to where you just saw full control through the with grows and moderate and then look at rutgers helping defensively other guards serving us to link and even have to sometimes drifting inside and you just saw team that was fooling controlled through the middle area of the field in doing that Enter just been having sort of said. They didn't have any sort of connection to martinez or luke outcome for a long time in the first half even at breda to read you read build the momentum building momentum really caring the procession really carrying the pace of the game and enter was merely reacting to that. I thought it was a flat performance when you need a little bit of life and energy and urgency for inter he just. Wasn't there a little bit of life early on in the second half and that was about it appear team and they were the two point here. And what was wrong with said today vega question. Obviously it was not enough to put real madrid in into any danger and The control the game from the beginning on after the the red card of and Yacht it they look the whole game like the the certain winner. It comes in a very delicate moment right now for for my team because obviously in a championship in almost area league. they're fighting railway through. They haven't taken on a rhythm yet and the expectations are very very high in milano. The people the adobe they expect they expect a championship winning the title ahead of uber. Because that's filed too long since it happened the last time and they were expecting big things from the champions league so now it looks really kind of ugly if they can go through in the champions league and and create only more uncertainty around around into milan right now

An ex player he kind of jumped the shark awhile ago. s the Monday was laid out. Position was appropriate. You want to go away with any any credit on the right hand side courtois, dot them out of trouble a couple times it wasn't just the tall maitree chances and took them. Three one on ones the coach manager save over the course of the nineteen minutes. So it could have been even worse I mean less season they lost. The game of the Champions League in Paris they had a really rocky start. This is didn't. On yeah, they came back. They weren't playing Schachter. Owner but let me finish this. Season so I don't think. A rocky a shaky start like this one is anything new for Sodano, for the club however I you Janis making mistakes I think the players only are not up to the task mentally physically and technically as a group not forget didn't sign anyone in the summer. A few of the players left Bahamas pressure is really under Alex because he's done of course and everything that he's achieved as a player and manager that club is huge but that's two defeats in a row obese two different competition, and then the classic the weekend will happen if they lose is three in a row. Or do you still think that still has enough credit in the bank to two last regardless of what happens on the weekend? Of course, he's calling credit in the bank. He's got more credit than anyone because what you've done by do you think he doesn't situation is somewhat unique because even though he's won two titles as a coach, even though you on those three genders lease in a row, there are still some nagging questions I think and legitimate questions about aspects of of the jump that he does and some people and least includes people at the club at Rome Madrid at the. The First American To Play For Barcelona

"Two Weekends Ago Nineteen Year Old Sergio Desk became the first American to play for one of the world's biggest soccer clubs. The new. Number, two for Barcelona Savino desk off the bench here today. Today the FX Palton Oreo on desks rapid rise and why the young star has chosen to play for the US instead of his birth country of Holland. showed him their vision for what he was going to be in the future they believed in him and he hadn't seen anything from Holland until he broke into the first team that I act. So I think there is a sign of Sergio recognizing wind people believe in him in when people give him the support to be successful. From in the athletic, I'm under skelter and I'm Davidson, it's Friday October sixteen, and this is the lead. It felt like something great was happening. There is something about the emotion. For. The past because. that. This isn't a story. View the. It stays with you. So. Paul how would you describe the way that Sergio plays? Well, I would say he's definitely more of the modern fullback that we see in today's game. Is An attacking player first and foremost. DSP little slow to react to. That very quick very good one on one defender, but his strongest traits are pushing forward. With the ball crossings desk. Space he's not afraid to be creative. He's not afraid to try different things. Back so Yeah he he plays with the mindset of attacking player who is looking to create goals. And get a sense of the hype around surging your desk. How good is this dude expected to be? Yeah I mean I think there are a lot of hopes for what he can be you know Barcelona spending twenty, five, million euros to sign him that puts a a heavy amount of expectation on Sergio Desk I mean this is not a taking a flyer on a guy paying five million euros form and hoping he works out and develops know when that kind of money is being spent. The expectation is that you come in and you contribute right away. And in the case of Sergio that means producing assists, it means holding your own in the Champions League and I think there is a lot of belief that he can be that type of player I mean I think there's going to be a huge spotlight on that club this year because it could potentially be Messier's final season at Barcelona, and so the hope that club is that they can win Champions League maybe do something to convince messy to stay and that's what you're walking into. If you're Sergio Desk and Paul, what's your sense of Sergio personality what's he like he comes across as kind of a quiet kid? I believed in myself. So that's like the reason I get focused and I played really well and this you know he. Is Very Smart. He certainly is not afraid to Kinda give his analysis of his teams and where he fits in the and the last two minutes I just made a unbelievable mistake and that's What I learned from it. But. What's interesting is when you talk to other people about him, what's he like kind of away from the media spotlight were you probably get a better idea of his personality? It seems like he is. I guess the best way to put as maybe like an interesting dude, like he you know he kind of goes to the beat of his own drum. He's got a kind of a bright personality and we're starting to see little bits of that I think as he grows comfortable with the spotlight that's on him. Now, we'll you've been digging into Sergio rise to stardom including speaking with some of his former youth coaches in the Netherlands. Tell us a little about the path he's followed. Well, he was signed with his academy from a local club. At. Quite a young age and I think what's interesting is At I xe the expectation when you go to a club like that and you go into an academy like that is immediately, how is he gonNA fit in as a professional and I think there were some concerns about whether or not Sergio had the discipline to succeed. As a professional you saw that topic come up with a number of his youth coaches at I you. Was He going to take things seriously enough. Well, what were some of the things that he was doing that we're raising red flags among some of these youth coaches? Well, they vocalise some of them and they didn't they hinted at others. There's little things like Sergio not showing up to school. Where was his focus and and having to sit down and have talks about professionalism and you can interpret it however many ways you want is showing up the training on time is he going and doing all the individual work that needs to be done mainly they wanted him to understand that you know. Yes, football is fun. Yes. There is the enjoyment part of it right but. If, you're going to make it at a club like I asked at a certain point you have to start treating it like a job as well, and for as much as some coaches were giving him those red flags there were also coaches who were saying, no, this kid has it. He has something and what you what you need to interpret is, yes, his personality might be. A little different. He might not fit perfectly in the box that you want, but he wants to be successful. He wants to get better and those are the coaches that recognize that in him and worked to kind of harness it, and once that happened once there was a little bit of belief behind Sergio Dust that self-motivation has has led him to a really quick sent from. The U Twenty World Cup into access first team, and then a year later into the senior national team for the US and onto Barcelona. So break this down for us. Paul Sergio grew up in the Netherlands. But he's been playing with US national teams. How exactly has that worked? So Sergio comes from a military US military family his father was a soldier who was stationed overseas. As Mother's Dutch and so he was born in Holland and and was raised there and even the Dutch national team he never got an invite to the youth national teams in Holland every time before the less round, the real real influence I didn't make you know and. Then, I was like. And he was discovered by the US soccer on accident, a US youth national team coach Dave Vandenberg, a former player, and he reached out to his club actually about another player. Another American at I ax to check in and he said as as you tend to do in scouting or journalism. Hey are there any other players I should be aware of and to coach that the actually we have another player here with American passport is name, Mr Gino, desk, and then My Dad told me like you also have American best and people saying to my dad so he can also play for the American. So when they brought through genius destined to camp, they were watching very closely not just his soccer ability but how would he mesh with the group and they said it took just one training session to see the quality that Sergio desk had. But what they were really happy with was how quickly he bonded with the Group of players and they felt like he really gained a lot from the group in connecting to his American. Identity I felt home over there a little bit because they I mean in the national team because they helped me all the time and they give me chances. This. That's the main thing I guess I would say also I think it's worth noting that the connection between us soccer at the time general manager now technical director Ernie Stewart and Sergio Desks Ernie Stewart likes or. Has a father who is in the military a Dutch mother grew up in Holland and when the US was trying to finalize Gino desks international recruitment, Ernie Stewart and Gregg Berhalter flew to Holland sat with Sergio and his father had a meal watched her play Champions League and spoke about their vision and I think it probably helped Sergio desk to see somebody who grew up very similar to him very similar background who played in multiple world cups more than one hundred caps for the US national team and Through seeing Ernie Stewart's accomplishments saw what he could accomplish with the US i. felt like my feelings were telling me like. My heart told me US wants the best option for you. It's not like. That I don't like the Netherlands. But yeah. In life you have to make decisions on. It's easy. You know. Also, we should note that that loyalty that, US, national team showed him, and that belief in the positive reinforcement he was getting with the US and being to Seventeen World Cup team u twenty. World Cup team led him to choose the United States senior national team overhaul, and which was recruiting and Windsor Genius talked about that decision. He talked about the fact that he had been a part of the teams plan for a long time. They had showed him their vision for what he was going to be in the future they believed in him and he hadn't seen anything from Holland until he broke into the first team and. So I think. There is again a sign of Sergio recognizing when people believe in him and when people give him the support to be successful.

For, all the Because as You know ended a day. I think the biggest and the main reason why the option because when transfer marquette. Bought Bruno Fernandes without that piece of business. This this would happen so listen. He always asked to coach the team and he obviously had a hand and say Bruno Fernandes Oh yeah as I said. It's success. I'm not convinced that he can take them from from. Champions League qualifies to actually vying for the title against Liverpool in city I still. "It doesn't matter what the punishment is because they will never be in the Champions League. Anyway, is what a man like point. So would would you like to see new rules adapted? To as you say, spread the wealth. Would you like to see those kind of fin financial fair play rules? Or do you, do you kind of scribe to this pure capitalism approach? I don't have a choice, max. I think in Europe, you know that there's been already two or three cases were players collectively complain about not being paid. You know there were some rules of limiting of cap salary caps like there are in the United States in Europe. They have been actually shut down every single time the other thing in you and I have talked about this in in previous programs. You know, spending moneys is, is very easy spending the money. Well is not that easy, right? How many teams electorally squander money your favorite team being the next month example of that just bring it in? You're gonna defend it now. I was going gonna make the same point. So go ahead. The point is that, you know, it's I don't want to limit the amount of money you spend, because I will be punishing really. The players is Josefina list that people are spending money in ways of maximizes. The, the entertainment value. Remember when Virgil went to lever pool for seventy five million? I think were pounds euros and everybody said, it's absurd is in Kreil, what it, what it, what waste of money and look Virgil is the reason in my way of thinking that they won the Champions League. You know. And so the guy looked like a bargain now. Total body. Right. So it wasn't really the seventy five million dollars was actually seventy five million dollars to buy a player that gut shoe to the Champions League title. And so to me, it's leave it to leave it to the free market live the people, actually. I buy and sell, and are you going to be punishing small market teams? Yes, yeah. But, you know, I think life is not fair. Life is not fair. I think the sport is it's still so Dina. It's so engaging even if you have certain teams that are overloaded with talent, but I agree with your point, totally, which is like I feel right now, the two main cases I mean, it was Chelsea for so long, and they are dealing with their own transfer ban currently, as punishment of some financial irregularity along the way. But I feel like all the fingers are currently being pointed at, at Manchester City and PS G and just the exorbitant sons sums of money. These these teams have spent and. How that's impacted their various leagues? But I think at the same time I mean, how would you not say that as fans are we not better off with Manchester City now than before? I mean like I'm not happy about it. They're crushing the league and Manchester. United look puny in comparison lately. But I mean yes they're dominating the league. We're seeing the competition rise. I mean, we're seeing now Liverpool reached that same level where they're Toda toe with city and you know how long before next season. It's, it's maybe Liverpool and Chelsea again or arsenal or Manchester United fingers crossed and you know it's going to because there are enough teams that make a lot of money. And, and as you pointed out earlier, the TV rights have only exploded the Premier League most of all right. Where teams are even the lower or middle table. Teams are really able to spend well, and more importantly, they're able to fend on. You know, you mentioned Byron Munich as buying every. German player from every other team. More importantly, it allows certain other teams to hold out and say, no we're going to keep our best players for next season. Actually, we don't need kind of a buyout from Manchester United or whoever. But the point to, to what you mentioned, because you're, you're, you're absolutely right to two villains in this story are Munster city and PS g both teams have failed in the Champions League that tells you that, you know, this is the beauty of soccer. You cannot buy a bunch of players, and call them a team. And, and, and, you know, Manchester City has done fantastic..

"That stadium so much money? All right. It's a great symbol of the club. My big concern is if it puts us in a ton of that makes us struggle to buy players. It's all going to be nothing. I, I was terrified awesome fans kinda told us when it looked lot. We might not finish into talk full, you know, basically joking about enjoy playing Europa league football at you new stadium next year. Fact. Thank God that didn't happen. We'll be playing Champions League football next year but it almost did. And that would have been really embarrassing, and my. Worry is a couple of years if we in the next couple of windows, if we don't back porch. And if we don't spend the money, we will be, we'll be mid table club, playing the best stadium in Europe, which seems really weird. Yeah. You don't it's always a very dangerous tight rope to walk. If, if missing out on the Champions League, which is, you know it's the competitive is, as it is if that puts you in a position where you're now struggling to pay the bills on that new stadium. Then it's like wolf. That's. By building that amazing stadium taught him Hotspur basically put down a marker. Right. They said this this, this stadium is kind of a manifestation of Aram Bishen. Right. We believe that we're one of the best clubs in the world, one of the best clubs in Europe. And so we built a stadium that we think, befits that status. And right now, I think I think that's right. You don't look at that stadium. And why is it club? Tottenham Hotspur play next wearing the Champions League final. We're in the Champions League every year. We're topsoil club. Why should we have a stadium like that? But if we results to full off, and we'd start finishing seventh eighth and ninth again playing that stadium's gonna start to seem bit absurd. Yeah. Yeah, you're absolutely right. Now you said at the beginning of last season, when things were going kind of well, still in your gut you felt like it might not work out. What is your gut instinct, right now are Spurs going to do it, right, this summer, or is it going to feel like a summer that slips away? You know, it's so funny because you look, you look at that run in it, really it was a really it was a tale. Two very different stories into premium league in the last ten to twelve weeks. I'm glad that our our little rendezvous last weekend. Lets me think back on the show honored to be back. Happy to come just in time for with a pretty impressive game. I yeah, I had to make you one of those big money offers, you know, come in scoop in one hundred million euros to get him back on the show. Of course. I think one of the one of the group stage games with us for champions. A Real Madrid polls in a fair, man. Those those teams real had a big affect on this year's Champions League. Well, we're going to have to we're going to go through today's Barcelona Liverpool game at the end. I want to hear your thoughts on who you think's gonna win at all. But we'll get to that. In a second. First. Let's start with the game. Barcelona three Liverpool nil. Luis Suarez opened the scoring in the twenty six th minute. With a dashing Krawczyk. Run across the box and a slick finish off Jordi Alba cross, then leeann L messy showing Fernando your anti what a sloppy goal should actually look like. Bench to Dink it in across the line. And then just because he clearly felt that that first goal wasn't flashy enough in the eighty second minute pulled the free kick of all free kicks out of nowhere. Just one of those goals that no no keepers ever gonna save absolutely gorgeous. God what a goal that? I'm curious your thoughts pay Barcelona. I think obviously a commanding result Liverpool definitely in a super super tough position. But this was actually a thrilling game that felt very close while watching it, what did you think of it? Yeah. I was gonna say the same thing. I think for such a lot for a Porsche this game. I was just gonna say of super, you know, tight affair, you know, very evenly matched up on both sides. Like an electric trio of offense of players on both sides, though will now them started today as opposed to Bobby. You know, a strong staunch defense an interesting like kind of multifunction mid the creates but defense very well as well. So very even on paper and almost pretty even in the play itself, minus the scorelines, it was a strange affair in that sense. I think Klopp after the game said he was very happy with the way Liverpool played, but obviously not happy with the final score. And it's one of those tough things where man. We actually talked about it a little bit beforehand Philippi, which was you. And I both don't typically get to root for Leonel. Messi your Brazilian, so contractually your they strip your citizenship. And if you know if a true finisher true striker of the ball was a Methodist, and they would've took a shot, but he just held it up and try to get some of the other players to to make run. So he could put it onto them on top of that. There wasn't a real service to have trivia looks completely out of form e oh it's been a real precipitous decline for him since his glory days last summer at the World Cup. I, you know, this is this is the point in the season where you know, would have been really nice if there if these ton of squad players had a little. Bit more rest. There's a little bit more depth than this is that we talked about throughout the entire, you know, Champions League run that there was always a concern that they never read course, that they never brought anyone in and starting to show, you know, Kane son or out, and they've got a number of players who are just completely out of form. And you know, we'll see in the second the second leg whether or not son who's been their best player over the past couple months, whether he could make a real impact. Yeah. I totally agree. Son coming back. I mean, you felt his absence in the biggest way today. I think, you know, don't count them out going into the second leg 'cause they're they know that it's all to play for and it's all on the line. And I think with sewn back it, you know, he's such a dynamic player at the same time. It's what both of you guys talked about. I couldn't help especially those first thirty minutes. Right. I asked are such a proactive team and Tottenham are such a reactive team Tottenham. They pass the ball. Ball. And they then are looking where to play the next ball. And as you said often times, whether it's one Yama or even better players Ali and Ericsson know, then they give the ball away because I asked just closed them down so quickly versus I asked the these players amazing to watch. But they already know exactly where they're gonna pass the ball before they've gotten the ball. The ball moves so beautifully amongst that team. It's fantastic to watch. And they just have so much energy. Chasing it down read. You're talking about your enta-. I understand he's a slow player. So he's going to be kind of a hold up striker who can then maybe feed the ball to another player. But you gotta pass the ball better. If that's the kind of player, you're going to be because he was he would get the ball. Someone would make the run, and he just wouldn't be able to complete the past. You know, I think Willie last time one of the last time we talked about Tottenham we talked about Lucas, and it would seem today. Like all of a sudden he was just like thirty minutes into the game. He was like I'm going to. Playing now. And all of a sudden he was like electric, and it was kind of the changing point where he was able to find space and Tottenham seem to realize that set-pieces we're going to be their best friend, and that I ask are tiny and not up to the task. I don't know. What do you feel Willie going into the next game? How the chances live. Well. No, I agree with read the book, you know, put your team started with a with a really very optimistic view of back three. And I think you learn very I mean, he I don't know why he wait, wait, thirty minutes too. Change the the formation. But there were painful to watch. I do think that now they have a much better sense of called to defend the Ajax. I think having song bike end will give them, you know, the middle range shot, but they didn't have today as you said, they cut the rely a lot on this said pieces. I mean, you're very good for that. I mean, very good about also scoring goals with his hands arms elbows. But you know, he he is actually very tall. And he he was tall his by a few inches. So very dangerous on.

"You're just like really we're just gonna watch this average Saturday matchup champion fine. It's disrespectful, and so many ways. But you're absolutely right Barcelona. I actually just I mean, it would just be the ultimate right? It like a bent I act or Celona batch. That sounds like something you'll read about twenty years from now like. Oh, I can just picture the guard. Or Celona on the verge of sunny delight now, which is miserable because I wanted United to find him. But I mean, it's it's almost part part of that makes it kind of feel weird where it's like, you know, I actually wants to the want to win it for when it four win the Champions League for this team. And then they'll be joined Barcelona. Yeah. I mean between elected school and Frankie Dejong diong. You know, they're going to be going to be pretty heavy next season. But I can already picture it messy sitting there in tears at the end Zeke holding the Champions League trophy above him. Picture. Picturing Barscelona accidentally all the Manchester United. All ex team saying like oh haven't flown on the beach pug, buck. I hope that's the kind of text message. Sense. Oh, gosh. Oh, man. I said we're on the same page. And as we've already stated read we are one hundred percent with our predictions. So and the fact that we agree just goes to tell you it's gonna be Barcelona. I acts in the final. Yeah. I think Willie thinks it's going to be touting a little so with that we've got covered. Well, I don't know what willy thinks only knows what willing. Thanks. I think he probably would give it to Barcelona. I think you'll think Barcelona I don't know what he thinks between I ex Tottenham, but I actually played so well, oh, just take it to the final baby. All the way if I asked to win it all it's just it's it's what let's buy the rights were making the movie now. That really is an incredible underdog story it's like not the same level but similar to like Lester winning the Premier League a couple of years ago. Oh, yeah. You know? What was I was reading from staff after I asked you benches, I access entire wage Bill for the year is what Rinaldo gets paid for your. Incredible. Anyway, I can't wait back. It's gonna be fantastic. It's going to be fantastic Champions League is all about and we're in it now all now at this point. We just wait until April thirtieth just a couple of weeks away. And we're in the semi-finals. Unfortunately, of course, we're still doing these stacked games all games on Tuesday. It's so annoying. I get it. It's it's very fair. But it's just like, why are you? Splitting your audience like that. If you're eighty I just wanna watch Paul piece about what I only have so much time in the day. I want one game onto the one on one. Make it make it joyful force. Right. Let's make make a half out of it. Let's come on Asian. That's also ration- read. It's going to be outstanding. I can't wait to talk to you about it. All we're gonna have to see though because all the games are on Tuesdays and Willie's Tuesday day. But we can't have only with Willie doesn't just get Tuesday's forever. Read. "So, and I don't think he's going to be able to, you know, have that that beggar mentality against Barcelona because he doesn't have the players frankly to to stand up to to the attacking tried in Barcelona's. I think it's to be an open at open match whether or not magic actually score is gonna be another another issue. But I think it's gonna be like like we've all said fun to watch. I think potentially the worst thing that could happen would be if man you gave soul Shire, the permanent job before the Barcelona Games because then he would actually have something. To lose. And so hopefully, we don't get that that display faith until after after the Champions League is over entirely Willie. Any final thoughts. I'm rooting for Manchester City against Ajax in the semi final. And then bars too long Lieber pool that's going to be in the end to very juicy games to watch. Indeed. Indeed. I we quick. Yeah. Quick note about the ninety six I x bent this final just took ticket. A quick look at the lineups for that match. Goalkeeper axe advantage Sar. No wonder. Those are the real glory days. I appreciate how differing we are in our predictions. We're not we're not all that align. The only place we were almost entirely aligned was Liverpool defeating Porto until read a rogue. Right. Turn off into either glory or despair. No one knows. Guys. What is really really interesting after all very boring classification rounds in August than than the group stage, which is a waste of time. All of you know, we may actually end up. Let's say that age. Excellent. The beat Juventus. You know, if the semi finals would be Manchester City to benches Barscelona and Lieber pool. Just just for a second that if all the favorites actually will. If those are the four last standing teams there is some just as there. I mean, I do really think that those are the four best teams in Europe right that and whether they make it to the semi finals is a big if but to me, you know, we have in the set of eight four of what I considered to be the best teams right now in Europe and therefore in the world. So there is some you know, that all there is a the curation distillation you end up with. Real quality here with real quality. I agree with you. And it's gonna make it all the more interesting when we're doing our semi-final predictions, and it's Tottenham against I XE Porto against Manchester. United. No official who like leave committed Kara Curie. That's imagined the difference in worldwide audience if the final of the Champions League is Porto Ajax, I mean, it'd be. "We brought in all these other big players. We bought in boo. Brought him boo foam. We've brought in this. You know, we've got drags learned Dima like really this is the team that's at its peak in theory. What else do you want them to have? And then are well. Yeah. Of course, I mean for sure that is the key difference. And I'm sure it would have been a key difference. But you know, they have enough other weapons. Clearly, take name our side. You think your taxes just Drexler de Maria baba, and you're like a poor poor guys really starving for talent over there. The trade off is kinda come down on it where I say like well Real Madrid. The added like insult of getting absolutely thrashed for one where they really played horribly and PS g on the other hand. It's like they played pretty well for most of the game and looked really good. But they made a few key mistakes and lost. And that's that's almost even more frustrating where you're like, you know, and what did we do? And here's the problem for g and in their ever never ending search because you're absolutely right. All they care about at the at this point is the Champions League in the reason. That's all they care about is. Because they've got the league's so in hand, and that's their problem. And they can't do anything about it. They can't move to a more difficult league. And the fact that they play in France, and the competition is not as good that's always going to be their downfall not say, they're never gonna win the Champions League. But they just don't face. The same battles weekend and week out. And it's those battles that build confidence to say, you know, what we're coming back. And I think that's their biggest problem now next question for you read in in line here. So we're both in line that PS, gee, maybe the more embarrassing story potentially to you got to imagine is done. I don't see him staying just because PS want it. They brought him into win the Champions League to lose in the round of sixteen to it's not like they lost to a great team as much as we love Manchester. United to lose in the game with like this hodgepodge of menu players that we put out there. I think is too much for him to surmount. I think I think the wheel is just going to be too much against him. He's going to be too much of a lame duck between now and the end of the season for people really want him to stay R P. As gonna go out and hire Marino. No. I I actually don't think too dumb. I think that it's only as first year they will let him work to install his system of it. More PSG have had an injury it year. They they're gonna they're having some squad turnover. I think that they're going to bring in a couple of new players next year that it more to systems. I I think I I have a little bit work state than and then you do and maybe more faith that the the board at PS g or going to the decision makers at least are going to keep him on. I also don't think burrito. It's PS play style all way to defensive way too negative wouldn't fit with a player like neymar. And and some of their attacking flair got like I. Could not imagine neymar Marino having a positive interaction whatsoever. It's just not gonna happen begs. The question is name are going to stay at PS g after this. That's a great question. I really does. He really want to spend the third year in Paris too after two disappointing seasons. No certain go infinitely further from the balloon the or then he's then he ever was at Barcelona. You know, I think where where do we go? Where do we go? Yeah. Does he go to jail? I mean, really that's the only place, right? I can't I can't imagine him playing England..

"This new stadium has really tickets all on on their on the team and appeals made it very clear that he wants to win the Champions League, or at least continue to make the Champions League finish of the top four. He's kinda give it up on the upper on the chance of winning the league. He's given up on the domestic cups. So he's going all in into progressive Champions League and continued to say top-four spot. So this is gonna be important competition in and I think he's a lot of pressure on them. And I don't think they're going to be able to pull for the players and one of the great manager. Got a they're riding. They're they're doing. They're doing pretty well right now. I I agree. I'm flipping my prediction to Dortmund. I think you know, they're still in control of the Bundesliga. They, you know, I think the transfer window suited them just fine. I think they're doing, you know, they're fine. They're not. They don't seem tired that. You know, the schedule the difference between the German schedule in English schedule, suits them. And then you look at Tottenham, and they looked depleted. They're going to have lost their two most important players. And you know, it's just hard to get behind it. I think they snuck in not to say that they didn't like they did it at the at the detriment of somebody else they earned their their trip out of the group stage. But it was close. It was very very close. And I just don't they've got a hope that. Goalie, and Harry Kanner bathroom the second leg, and they need to hold on to for the first leg and see if they can make it to the second one. Yeah. I just don't feel good about it. And I think in a beg the question at the end of all this. I'm not saying that he's not a talented manager. But when you look at like, Manchester United, and you're looking at your future, you know, linked there or even Real Madrid. When you think those are his two primary destinations from these two teams perspectives. And you look that this is a guy who's been in the title race. The last couple of years, but has fallen short has managed to full and his will have potentially one zero trophies in his tenure. Say what he hasn't done isn't been impressive, given the circumstances. But he potentially could have won something and didn't. And you're looking like, well, why are teams necessarily bending over backwards to to hire a coach who hasn't proven? He can actually win something. So sold Shaya baby. Yeah. Because at the end of this season, he's going to have won the Champions League. So. Yeah. Anyway, I switch. I'm switching. I think Dortmund are are going to take the round of sixteen sadly to Spurs, but soom you're sticking with that as well. Okay. All right up next. I axe against Real Madrid. Now, we both. We shocked the world. I think there were articles written about it in all the major sports pages around the world. They were talking about it on Biard TV be our live for weeks. I think it's all Steve Nash. And sue have been able to talk about that that we both predicted. I asked we're going to beat Real Madrid. Now here we are. How are we feeling? You don't feel pretty good about Madrid are obviously in a transition year right now while relying on like initiates junior to be their their star eighteen nineteen years old. Injuries the players get older. And you know, they they just sold Franken young Barcelona, but he's staying on at I actually the end of the season, which is crown. Yeah. And he could be he could already be Barcelona hero. If he knocks out Real Madrid in the in the Champions League with. They managed to keep the rest of their team together. And I think they're just young hungry..

"One person is never stood out more than in there. Surroundings. But. I also it's like, you know, it's one of those things that there's no accounting for it at all. But I can't help it feel like Pogue and Marquel are going to want to kind of stick it to the French capital in their way. And so I think we're gonna see I think we're gonna see good games out of both of those players. And I think that might be the difference maker. I'm still feeling it. I said I said back into center that Man United. We're gonna win this game. And it was going to lead to Seoul. Shire getting promoted as the new long-term coach now giving the spree where on I think this is the the key thing that can seal that right? I mean wins in the league are great were on track to get back into the top four love it. But if we can start progressing in the Champions League and overcome something like, gee, that's going to get the job long-term. I'm feeling it. I'm sticking with it, man. United over PS G over the two legs. What I want is a. I want. This is what I'm imagining one one drawn at Old Trafford on Tuesday. Okay. The second leg bench. Just United goes and school Shire orchestrates a masterclass to Bill or two one win in Paris and knocks knocked out the G and secures the job from self. I feel that I'm feeling you. I feel it's a good prediction. I stand behind you, sir. Yeah. That or that or it's like, whoa. It's one Neil. He has g in the eighty fifth minute in the second leg and Manchester United scores to in the last like in one eighty nine and one in the second or third minute stoppage time, it's gonna be traumatic. I can't wait office baby. Now, that's what you want read is that your formal prediction that Man United or taking this this round sixteen match. Absolutely. I'm riding it. All right. We've got our first convert from the initial reaction both on the Man United train. I'm sure it surprises new, buddy. All right Tottenham against Dortmund now flashback to December. And I recall our conversation going something like this. You were like Dortmund Dorman Dortmund Dortmund Dortmund Dortmund Dortmund. And I was like, yeah. Whatever read Tottenham, they're gonna crush it in the January transfer window. They're going to bring in some key players will complement the starters. The starters will then be able to arrest in the league, but really focus on the Champions League. Dortmund are going to sell pulisic. And they're going to totally lose their chemistry there on the down. Tottenham are on the rise. And well what happened Tottenham brought in? Nobody. They sold a one player. Dortmund Ditz helpful, but they manage to keep them for the rest of the season. So they loaned him right back. And they brought in a few couple of other players. They have loaned out Kaga, which might be to their detriment. Who knows he hasn't been? I know. But so things haven't exactly gone my way, and not only that Harry Kane is injured deli alleys injured most likely to miss the Champions League matchups. It's it's hard to feel super great about Tottenham right now. How you feel? I am very happy that my prediction doorman, but I think Putnam had to rely on on coming back from the Asian Cup in order to have someone who could potentially be goal score or provider. And while he is good. He's not Harry Kane or Delhi, and he's not gonna he alone is not enough to to take you through in the Champions League. They also taught them only got rid of them delay him to to China. I, you know, I just don't I don't see I think their team is overwhelmed and all the things we talked about before, you know, they they out on to transfer window than a row without bringing anyone in. They're stretched every into. That I believe two consecutive transfer when buying a single player, the they have a lot of homegrown talent. And it's great. They have a nice squad when it's been, and you know, the the cost of moving on building..

"Has been too long. This is your podcast about the Champions League read. Ryan opposite me as always good to have you back, sir. Back at the lovely rainy, cold wet day in New York and nothing in warm the cockle by heart more than talking Champions League. She's a month and a half off. And you get poetic on me. I like a lot of time in the darkness here. The dead of winter to just contemplate the the beautiful game. I didn't I didn't wanna say anything. You know, this has been a fantastic month of of football Manchester United on the rise looking like they let their old self under under here. Alex, Manchester City dropping point. Newcastle. I would for behind. The crush 'em Liverpool dropping point. It's just generally things are fun. Not not a particularly interesting transfer transfer window in January, but. Well, it's the games themselves have been so entertaining, even the to draw Manchester United had the other week was was thrilling. I'm excited to be watching football again. Yeah, I'm rounding out the new year with the with the Champions League. It's just seems kind of coming into into full form on the Excite side. me too. "Sorry for you listeners. I would've said Dortmund are gonna take this one. But Tottenham resurgent eleven goals in the last two games in the Premier League. They you know, they sneak through in the group stage. I don't know they they seem to be doing exactly the opposite of what we predicted which is growing in momentum and strength. I I this is a toss up to me. Okay. Well, a couple of things one are they peaking too early Tottenham. You know, these games are until February. They're they've they're going to splash out all their goals like think about they've got so. Listen to this lead up to the Champions League match. Okay. They've got a couple of easy matches wolves or what was not not such an easy out. But okay. Well, it was Cardiff Tranmere. Then they play Chelsea menu Fulham Chelsea. Yes, then. Yeah. So they got a ton of matches in the next comp- compared to like man u they've got League Cup FA Cup a couple of makeup Premier League matches there. They've got. I'm just gonna read you the one two three four five six seven eight nine ten ten matches between now and dormant. So. If they can keep up this momentum good for them. But I don't see it happening fair enough fair enough. Okay. So you're calling it for Dortmund. Absolutely. I think Dorman so there's a couple of things one. Dorfman lose any players during this January window talk like pulisic's might be sold. The could. Could they break up some of the the young, you know, prodigies of this team this this will be one to watch. Because who knows like who knows if the team playing the same team as a team that's in right now. So I don't I I don't know if there's gonna be any like big buyers on the market because January prices are already inflated, and there's no team that I think one player will really save that team season, maybe Manchester City, but I don't know. Yeah. And at the same time, I mean, this is really a matchup to see who you know, what January business gets done Tottenham. You know, we always thought maybe they would invest in January..

"Let's bring it back. Let's bring him back. Anyway, I do like to building on what you're saying though that about sedan that I imagine. I kind of imagine that anytime his team is down at halftime. He's just like, brings everyone in is like told you about the time headbutted a guy in the World Cup. And you just kind of inspires spies everyone through that one story time and time again. All right there it is Manchester United. Any any final thoughts. You know, I think that they are. Renew can right this ship and get these players playing together. They have the talent to make it far in this tournament there they have some a great collection of players, but they're just are not playing together as a team right now. That is really the worst thing that they just like there's no chemistry out there correctly. Yeah. And so we'll see if that could change. Does. I am very low on them. You know, maybe maybe it's the wrong pairing a certain way where I don't know if we'd see the forest from the trees. We came off very dour on this on this group because we live it and we are not happy with the current reality. But as you say, I mean pulp Oba Kaku Alexis Sanchez. These are world class like some of the best. Literally some of the best players in the world. So, and you've got a coach who for all his faults has a certain talent for winning knockout round tournaments, not necessarily the prettiest way, but he's got a formula for winning then that has proven successful in the past. So those things combined and you say, sure, why can't Manchester United going win this tournament or make a super deep run, but it's it's the chemistry aspect. That's that's keeping us all. Sad. Yeah, I'm very excited to watch these matches because it's going to be roller coaster. I can already tell, and I think for all their fault and for all our faults in the league and everything that's going to be, these players are going to be at their highest on Champions League day. Now the question is, is Marino going to just try and spite everyone and cut off his nose despite his face and start MC Tomei Andres Pereira Marcos Rojo and jogo Deloitte on on Champions League day just to show all the other players that he can. That would be a shame. All right. Let's talk predictions here. What's. How you see this group. So I've got young boys at the bottom. They unfortunately don't have really have a chance here. The hardest choice is between second and third. So should we should we do this in sandwich style. You've got young boys in the bottom. Who do you have at the top of this group? Read event this. I've got you vent, so the top. So we're on the same page here Juventus at the top young boys at the bottom, how we have second and third playing out. I cannot in my in my right mind, say Manchester United Argo are gonna be bumped out the group stages. I can't. I can't do it. They have to make it if they don't God, that is just a colossal failure on everyone's part. If they get knocked out in the in the Champions League in the group stages, I can't imagine like players like Paul bar Lukaku stain, they they'd have to leave or or radio will get fired. I mean, it's just insane. It's insane to think that so they're gonna finish second version. Third, it could easily go the other way though easily. Yeah, I, I agree. Manchester United, get knocked out. In the group stage, I think Marino gets fired. Then. Assuming we're not like somehow on undefeated run in the in the Premier League. But those both happened, I would be very shocked that we are somehow undefeated and getting knocked out in the group stage. I got a faith in Manchester United. I have to I. So I agree with you. I agree with you. My heart and every I dunno, I, it's all their Manchester United in second place except for the fact that our players just seem unhappy and if for no other reason than I hope it's just to not jinx it, I'm saying Valencia in second place..

"And then I think it's probably gonna be Jesse Lynn guard, which is fine maybe. And he's like this player who's just tip toeing around making that next big jump in his career, but likes to kind of retreat back into anonymity. I don't think Juan Mata is the guy as you say. I just I think he's a good player if anything drop him a little further back. But if you need like some goals and you wanna play him in a more offensive midfield role, but I don't think he's, I never. I just don't think he's the winger that we need. So I mean, obviously I would pick. I mean, I want to start rash verd- is other than Poca our most important asset, and I think he has all the everything. We need to be a fantastic player, but he needs needs nurturing, and he needs playing time. And yes, it's true that he was naive to get that red guard. But you know all not handled in the best way by Maurino either. We've got multiple childish people foot. I don't know if you know this read, but he has won three Premier League titles which is more than anyone else currently in the Premier League by two and everyone else has zero. So suck it. Yeah. Well, that's not doing anything. I want to get your thoughts on one thing real quick here there was the big there was the big to do over the summer. Everyone. Everyone hoping Manchester United lure in Zindedine Sadan to be the coach. Would you want the donnas your coach here for Manchester United? So the way I feel about Sadat's kind of the way I feel about Carlo enchilada. He's one of those guys who just like, gets everyone in a in a room and says, you know, let's just go have fun. You guys got there and play. He's not a tactician. He just wants to he's amendment ajar. I mean at this point I wouldn't be upset if za Don came in. I mean, okay. I think he's one of pub idols. I think it would be a lot of a lot of fun to, I think pull will be be out there having fun. And that's one of the things that's really important. I think it'd be good at a good inspiration for the youth. Inspiration for you. But I think that he, you know, he probably bring a good staff with him. I think it'd be nice change. I doubt it's going to happen, but I agree. I was going to happen. I'm going to contradict myself because I agree where I said, just bring someone in to make punga thrive, and I agree with probably do that very thing. But to me not to compare in tactically to to Marino. But to me, it's similar in the sense that I don't think is ever going to be a coach at anywhere for more than three seasons. And I think he's going to be a specialist in winning knockout tournaments, which is frankly, what Marino kind of specializes in to a certain extent. I don't think I don't think the Don showed a tremendous affinity at winning the for winning Lalita. He showed very talented at winning the Champions League, which, frankly is the most important thing and this what the show is about. But I just don't see that as being a building to the future. You know that you're ever going to get another ceramics Ferguson, but you need a player a coach. I think gonna take on that role for more than three years. And I don't think Saddam's ever going to do that either. I think you know, rightfully so he's going to get kind of worn out. He's gonna put everything he's got into it, and I just don't think he's going to have that long jetty. And I don't think he's necessarily have an eye to really building a future for the for the clubs. So to me, it's it's the more current successful version of the same thing we currently have. Well, David Moyes is is still billable. Bring him back. Eating rumor the rumor that he is potentially going to be the next US. Men's national team coach. I read that and immediately walked out at my brain. I would be a tremendous mistake, please that, but I, yeah. David Moyes, never got a fair shake..

"But if Cristiano Renaldo Impala deba- can just find a way to play off each other. Well, like we so good. Yeah. Yeah. But we'll see. I think Rinaldo is coming into this understanding that he's the old dog. Yeah, that he needs these other players in order to make this work. You can't just do it all himself like the early days, a Real Madrid, so expect to expect to see a lot more link-up play a lot more patience from Rinaldo. You know where he might have just been very frustrated early. I think that there's going to. He understands that there's going to be a learning curve to get this little workout. And I think it's everyone's best interests that it does work out because you could see the the crowd and Turin turning on this team. If they just can't score, you know the, are they gonna start. Booing Rinaldo see happening. I think you'd have to go number of more games and I just don't think Christiane let's go that long without scoring. If nothing else the winning penalty at some point, just let him take it. Just like cool things down, but will. I mean it's how they started the season. We'll see if if it comes back around if they stick with it, but just on paper, if Cristiano Renaldo playing Moore's number nine and deba- behind him and then Douglas cost an Quadra on the wings. Like, are you kidding me? God terrifying. Yeah, just a real quick. Looking at the the Italian papers from from last week they've already started late. I know you which I know you have delivered to your home on on on a daily basis. I'm a huge fab, longtime subscriber. Tuttosport of course, slammed as the nowhere man already. You know, it's only been a couple of games, but they're not afraid to turn on him, you know. All right, let's do something I, you know, he's, they were all very excited to see him and you know, yes, he's looked a little bit. We're getting to see a little bit of that. Temper tantrum Rinaldo and his frustration which is never a good sign, but I'm, I just think he's too good oklaho- bounceback once once the Champions League starts, he's going to score four goals on Manchester United. He'll be fine, and that's really all that matters for them anyway. All right. Let's talk Manchester, United, are our beloved are struggling, Manchester, United finish second place in the Premier League last season, having a tough time, tough time keeping up with pep Guardiola and his Manchester City team. But this team just. Really playing. Super great. The first thing I asked myself when I was looking at Manchester United was, are they any better than the team that was swept out of the Champions League last year by severe. And what conclusion did you come to? Absolutely not. If anything, there just seems to be more chaos, less cohesion. It's like the defenders got worse as. If you can tell very down on on how can you not be? I mean, you know, it's just as you're a hundred seven, right? Which is that? I mean, we came out of the World Cup, and our good friend does Marino is just been like wining and crying. Since literally the minute the woke up was over. He was been, oh, this isn't a terrible season where things are really rough and I don't even know. I'm gonna find MARCY. Like I understand things happen, whatever you have crunch issues, there's no worse look than finding a player for spending a few extra days with his newborn child. Yeah, when the preseason in Los Angeles and like it's irrelevant and you're finding this guy for being with his his new baby, like. He's already had a tough summer. He was left out of the French World Cup squad the year. They win the World Cup. I mean, it's just things were going well for him, and he's kind of become the scapegoat a little bit this year. Now that Luke Shah's is playing out of his mind. Marito's punching renewed the new punching bag and Marshall's become that guy and breaks my heart. I think Marcial is such a talented player. I think if you're not if you gave not saying he's most consistent player in the world, but I think he's one of those players that the more he plays, he's going to play better and he's just not playing. So he's playing worse and it becomes self filling prophecy. I think he could be a world world class talent..

"Although, I mean, we might see him still shift a little bit. I mean, obviously he's got a little bit free license to move. He pleases you don't keep Cristiano Renaldo in one spot, but he isn't quite clicked yet in the as you say as more of the number nine, we might see him shift a little bit more left, but I'm just going to say it right now if Real Madrid. Obviously they have won three straight champions leagues with Cristiano Renaldo, the leading the scoring every time if Juventus now win the Champions League. I'm sorry, Cristiano Renaldo. Put him down best of all time. Put down, read best of all time the goat. So I actually think he's going to be affective. His name is going to carry more weight than his actual talent at this point. That's fine. Okay. With it. So is he so think about this in the first couple of games that you've meant this? They played them a number nine out the top of the formation. He wasn't very effective. They shifted him out wide. He drags more defenders onto him. He doesn't get on the scoresheet, but he unlocks space for the rest of the team to operate in tonal. Essentially, he's just an very expensive. Tarp, it just like sucking defenders into him and they can't get away and man's Zukas three to operate. And just rack up goals might have thirty goals this year we're Elda might have fifteen, and I don't necessarily expect him scoreline goals. I expect him to suck up defenders and allow the rest of the team to operate, and that's fine if they win, that's great. Rinaldo 's lead them to another another championship or another champion's league title. But I don't actually think that's, I don't think it'd be a result of his individual brilliance, like you say, with a player like Messi. That's fair. I think that you making good point. I think it's an early season effect where if teams are overcompensating and they're ease drawing defenders out to the wing and players like Minzu catch, capitalizing scoring goals, teams are going to realize you can't do. Do it completely. Otherwise you're still gonna get scored on in which case you're going to have to just try and play a little bit of both and cover everybody in which case Cristiana will then find more space and I expect him to kick into gear. I know he hasn't scored yet. I think that is more the exception to the rule. I think he'll he'll get his groove. He's too much of a poacher. I mean, he's come very close or ready headers going just barely wide. He such he so good in the air. I mean, it's like his, I wouldn't say necessarily under appreciated, but he so deadly with the headers. I think he's going to rack and some goals and and I'm sticking with it. Cristiano Renaldo move to Juventus and gives them the Champions League. You know, I'm I'm putting it down putting it down, but what more scoreless match away from disteclared him a bust, bust going for the. Obviously, we're both excited to see the prodigal son returned to Manchester United. That'll be that'll be glorious return against his his former coach Jose Marino for many, many just so much drama there. So many storylines foot. Obviously, there was, you know, mile talk Cristiano Renaldo, returning to Manchester United, really more a contract bargaining tool than anything else that's actual of Paul pod bug going back to you Venice after leaving Manchester United for you Venice, just like if you're Paul pug, but you just can't. You just can't go anywhere else. You can't go back to dimensions. You can't flip flopping teams back and forth, lead them to them to the champions entitled go there. View. I've used up all my young boys jokes anyway. I think I mean, this team, obviously we're spending a lot of time talking about Christiane Rinaldo my thoughts on that. You know, there are a lot of criticism of how much money they spent. I think just in terms of financial decision, Christine, you know spending one hundred five million euros on him. Piece of cake deal. I think totally worth it. He's already raised the profile of Juventus and the Syria. More importantly, no one go to websites ESPN wherever you get your soccer news. You've never seen in the last season so many like what's going on in the Syria this weekend. It's it's all because of that man, so, but this is certainly not a one man team..

"It's not necessarily the most pivotal position, but they did lose their right Bhagwat consul to Juventus. One of the many talking points of briberies here. I think that's a big loss. No question about that. And just because our other co host, the professor Willie cats Baril will would be upset if I didn't mention it. They have. They have lost Simone Zaza fans of the game. If you were around in two thousand sixteen for the euro's was a crucial penalty. Miss for Italy in what can only be described as a a dance. Maybe in the run-up to his penalty kick, it took an eternity. It involved many, many little steps and then just a fun during miss. So I think that's actually a benefit to this team to lose our good friends. Simone Zaza considered one of the worst penalties in history. That's pretty much always known for at this point. Hey, you know what? At some point, you gotta look at your career and say, what's the way I get into the history books? And if it means, take the worst penalty of all time. That's fine. Also, of course, losing on a free transfer, Manchester United legend. We know you got an idol to them in your back closet. Read Noni back to sporting. So there you go. Came the prodigal son return from Wednesay indeed. But there you go, I think. But I think this is a good team. They certainly have the potential to be good and I don't count this team out for sure. Agree. Let's let's skip on over to what would probably be the favourite of the group you would imagine Juventus new, the new home of the man. The myth legend the quads. Cristiano Renaldo after his hundred five euro one hundred, five million euro transfer at thirty three years of age has yet to score a goal for Juventus in his first three games. I'm gonna be. I'm going to be honest with you. Read I like Juventus chances not just getting out of this group. I think they might very well win the Champions League this season. It's very apparent that they're all in after this acquisition of an, although they've got. Under Allegra. They've had four doubles in the past four seasons and so domestic successes simply not enough. Yeah, they're measured now by their ability to win the Champions League. So of course they bring in the specialists Rinaldo who's become sort of a master of the Champions League with five cups to his name. They're in a real window mode. You know, he's thirty three, but obviously he's in peak physical condition. His role has changed over the years. He's not that speedy winger that we knew as on Manchester United. He's more of a. Stay stay, stable. Number nine, target man. Yeah, but he's very effective in that role berry..
