He'll be questioned because he went to he's gone to the big club with the big, but big power clubs and I know the biggest the richest club and, you know, people I mean, I've heard people. Bold fraud, Frodo? You believe that? You're going to sit here and don't believe that. No I don't believe that. That's what will be said. But by people who are wrong. Oh, okay. All right. Well, this is why this is a stupid question. I don't know. It's debate has been robust. Who's your favorite hedge fund? Like that? There's a reasonable conversation to be had about which one of those clubs needs this trophy more. Both these clubs should be winning. The Champions League. I know they both, I know they both should. "In a million, you might be able to get tighter scols in stopping, but one in a million. The same with Frank Lampard, but you stand there next to CVG and you start the next year on you go, they're fitter than me, they're stronger than me. They're physically taller than me. They're better than me, they've got more ability than me. And you just hope for the best and your hope it's going to be your day. So to answer that question, it would be Gerard for me, but I would totally understand if I got shot down in flames and everyone said scalzi. Okay. This is a good question, actually. You're gonna have to think following the shambles that was the Champions League draw ally. If you could have one redo in your playing career, what would it be and why? Semifinal coppa made 2011 against baragua header that hit off the post down to the gold line and out. If that had gone in, we would have gone to the final and who knows what happens then? Do you think you'd be sat with us if that goes in? Absolutely not. No. Stevie, one redo. I'm going to tell you, I don't believe in readers. I know it's just a question. But you've got to take the good with the bad. Right. So you think of your career and you think well maybe what the miss against Uruguay? A missing issue with a pitchcott and fur for the first time ever. They still haven't done it. If I hadn't ricocheted off my head, we would want to the league and 89. Yeah. I hadn't missed a penalty. Now we still don't want it, but I would rather have scored the penalty. So if you don't like a redo, Stevie, I don't because I honestly believe that you take what you've been given. Right. Because for all the bad things that happen, there's a lot of good things happen as well. And you've got understand that that's the way it is. So no more breakfast balls. No more breakfast balls on the golf course. Completely different bowling. Done. Doesn't go. Well, it's gonna be one of them again. Oh gosh. It's not a trumpet, but anyway. All right, well I'll blow my own trombone. I would ask Craig Brown, the Scotland manager. Not to ask me to man Mark prozanski in a Scotland Croatia game because before the game my agent found me and I was evident at the time.

"This. Ten wins in a row. For Carlo Ancelotti's side, they do look at the front page of various major papers. Unstoppable. How much credit should I try to get? And a lot. A lot of credit. One of the things that we talk about managers and some of the difficulties that they have for any big club around the world and certainly is given the team an identity. A structure. A plan in place, and then the execution of that plan. What you see from Brian Madrid is exactly that. UC identity you see a structure you see balance and you see a team that is consistently finding ways to win games. And dominating games and controlling the pace of the game. It doesn't happen by accident. Now, of course, he's going to point to the fact that the players that he has available are tremendously high levels, so therefore it seems to be easy for Rand Madrid, but it only seems to be easy because this is a team that has fully bought into what carbonate wants them to do. Is a players coach and a guy that knows full well how to manage a big group. They have been excellent and he has been excellent. He would be a very brave person to bet against around. And winning La Liga, of course, 8 points clear. You would be around the stupid person, a bit on Barcelona. Winning at that league are currently sitting 8th, obviously on 24 points. More drop points at the weekend are two two draw against our so sooner in pamplona. It's weird because you don't really learn too much for me sort of gains from Barcelona in the sense that the youngsters are there and there is quality there. But when under pressure, this Barcelona side will crack and Jamie's got a lot to do. Right, so how's that any different than Ronald Gorman's Barcelona? The same young players were out there and the same issues were happening for this club. The last ten minutes of this match Barcelona look like they were not even a mid table team, but a team is so on a relegation zone trying to hang on and hopefully maybe we're gonna see this out. You don't see the confidence of a group that is able to keep possession of the ball even again so so soon.

"Might be Alice had attacking the ball and trying to win the header. Are we punishing the attacking player for actually going up and winning a ball? And we rewarding a defender for not jumping for not anticipating that there was an attack in player there in place. So that's the thing that I would be careful about. And Stevie, to your point about the stage of the game, I have to imagine that the stage of the game actually played a role in not seeing this goal again because of the drama of the moment because of the finality of the moment. They did not want to take away from this and you did not want to be the referee that called this goal of through VAR and did not allow this goal in portal. Now for anybody to comment tell me that that did not play a part. They're crazy. They're kidding themselves. That's completely wrong. The referee and the viral in the wrong job then. Because we're not written, but it's not a fairy story. I know this is not reading a bedtime story. Where you can make up the end and you want something really nice and you get an equalizer. That is a 100% wrong. I have it's humans, right? Right? What do you think, if this is first half? Are they reviewing that? It's interesting argument and I love that argument because it's so deep into time at Portland. It's a very interesting conversation to have. However, I believe with Steve, you've got a call to fouls. You've got to judge the incident as it was. I still believe it's a foul. I think the defender, even though they argument, it doesn't jump. You can't jump because he gets an arm in the face. Therefore, he can not jump, and therefore, if the referee called it on the field of play with the VR, if he had no chance. So it's one of them, it's given on the field to play the VAR is always going to be kept out of it. And I believe the referee could have easily called the file. But watching the match live, the referee didn't get many thousand again for this type of offense. So this team is consistent. Mark clapper, good to have you on mate. Thank you very much for joining us. Thank.

"I hate the clear and obvious sort of terminology. But I think you have to go with that for the referee on the pitch on the var guys. Is that a clear and obvious error? Probably not. But that's a different conversation. Yeah. Those are two different sequences of the play. If you're going to call the followings, then, okay, call the followings. But once you let that go, now you have to evaluate the challenge of the goalkeeper ownings. And for me, Allison, even though he gets there, he gets a whole lot of the Danny ings, I think this is a penalty. Mom, what about that push? How does that come into play if it does? See, if the VR was clever and this is where we're leaving everything up to debate. I think the VR was clever here. You would have sent the referee to the screen and then give a defensive free kick because I believe I totally agree with Don. There's enough of a push that goes towards Allison put Allison off and therefore clear the decision. Yes, penalty are not very subjective, but give the defensive free kick because that's the first offense. Let me ask you something where you stand right. So I've just said that I didn't think that was apparently a cake because I think Alison when he's swiping his arm, it gets a touch on the ball and then because he's followed through he catches he catches things. I thought that was exactly the same on the rudder penalty that Chelsea got. The defender got the adjust before rudiger and because he's followed through catch he's rudiger, somehow then that's apparently a cake. Where do you stand on that? Because how can it be apparently if you get just before the opposition when the fact you make contact with them is absolutely inevitable, but that doesn't mean it's a penalty. No. If he gets there first, as long as he wins the ball, and then the follow through, then catches the player when he has a chance to get the second ball. Argument. However, the cliche one, the cliche one, I'm not the sure about, I think he just kicks the back of the leg in for me. I'll always say that this was a penalty. The one with Allison, I can get both sides of the argument. I believe in live player. I think this is a penalty kick. I think the referee would always give a penalty. And you can argue in slow motion Allison gets a slight touch on the ball at the same time as ins. However, I believe we're done. This should have been cleared up. We wouldn't have this debate anymore. Give the defensive free kick. Clear the situation up and let's move on. Mark, you've been really busy reading your books of late, so yeah, me on for a while. I just want to take you back to a couple of other incidents that we discussed on the show. We just asking just.

"Forget. It's a 12 angles. TV could have 30, but they have 12. That's a problem. Let's talk about the solar penalty, of course I handed Liverpool the win against Aston Villa. I don't think too many arguments about this one Mark, once they get one they're giving it for here. Mings has got one seller's got the run on him. There's an armored cross, and then he's gone down and there's a contact. But once seligo was down under the Ming's challenge, clumsy, it's always going to be a penalty. But what means his reaction tells it all when you're a referee in your water penalty Ming's accepts apparently straight away. He knows it's a penalty. Yeah, that's what we were discussing at the weekend mark was interesting that things just look guilty. Right from the off and referees would take that into account? You take a lot of the things into account. And when a player accepts it straight away, then you know you're good feeling. You've got that one right. The Ming's reaction tells it all. He knows sellers got to run on him. It's clumsy. He's police arm out. He's gone the ground, Sal has gone down, and I think mings will always accept that this is going to be a penalty kick. You don't get any prizes, do you for being honest on? Surely mings with all his experience. There maybe could put up a little bit of a protest. What exactly that's what we said at the weekend. I mean, mark's right, you look at the reaction, said before about dwarfs and his reaction. He knows it's a penalty. And tyron mings knows it's exactly the same thing. Weighs unlucky tyron mings. He's trying to get in a foot race with mo Salah and Mosul as rapid over 5 or ten yards where Tyrone mings wants to get any strides then catch him. And Mark nailed it. He was clumsy, his clumsy by having a little fishery left foot. That knows a little knee into the back of the calf. That was a pen for me. Meanwhile, the other end, Steven Gerrard wasn't happy that Aston Villa didn't get a penalty for Allison's challenge on Danny ings. March, should this have been a spot K? You see, if we talk about mings being clumsy with his foot and his body, how can a.

"Well. 35 games 25 goals. Okay. So that's the firepower that Stevie's talking about, right? Well, yes. And that's the only firepower from man to say nothing. And that's my point. It becomes a Ronaldo story and it has to be around the story because there are no more stories from man to stay united. And you better be careful if you're managing that and thinking that because atlantico Madrid is struggling at times in La Liga and this sort of team that you just can't quite figure out can they play in the attack and they possess the ball or are they just going to sit back? This is just a physicality of Diego semi owner, the size stories, and we're going to kick you here and calculate and frustrate you. You speak careful playing against Athletico Madrid in Champions League. Because this is Athletico Madrid in the end. And in the end, they're going to make it ugly. And they're going to force you into uncomfortable things. And they're going to push you and they're going to show you. And in frustrating you, which is easy to do against Manchester United, then that's when they thrive. I see this at radical Madrid all the way. Really. I see a traditional advancing past man to say united simply because Manchester United right now are no good. Wow. That's an interesting choice of what do you use? Advance. It's not advanced. It's not something that we've been seeing if letting do an awful lot. Recently, it's going forward. The advanced groups say. Yes, that's what they did. It's going too long. "Can defend through the midfield. And up until they figure that out, you can't make them favorite against Real Madrid because if there has been anything that we have seen from the animal, it's certainly over the last month, it's a distinguished rock solid, they're defending well, through the midfielder controlling games and then you have the nieces Jonah playing out of his mind on the left hand side, Carrie Benson are providing the goals that he has. Where is the weakness? We thought it was going to be in the back line. It hasn't been the case for a Madrid. Has been excellent. So this team right now explain extremely well. And they know themselves. They know the structure of the group. They know the organization of the group. You can not say that about PSG. They know that the front three at their best, they can dominate a game. But the rest of the group, we don't know exactly what they're going to be and what the final product looks like. So Real Madrid one vote? One vote. Steve nickel. Absolutely. You know, if you look at the Ali's going to sum that up, pretty much how I was going. The truth is, is that both of these sides gone forward are capable of destroying any defense. Right. That's just a fight. Whether it's PSG Real Madrid. The one thing we know about PSG is they can blow up and cause themselves problems defensively. Real Madrid, it's not a season that was going to be the Achilles heel, but as Ali said in the last month, they've been absolutely rock solid. It could twice back to the curve 12 Chelsea when he was arguably the best model to stay, wouldn't he? Yeah, so I think you have to go be Real Madrid. The only thing I might be a little worried about is taking these games come along as the Modric and Cruz Casimir may have run out of business. What does that mean? Because he's not giving them a lot of breathing time. The plan a lot of football. That's my only way. Otherwise, Brian would. Two votes around the trade. Don't actually send. My only worry for Real Madrid is obviously they're playing in Paris in the first leg. And PSG at any given time can rack up a number against anyone, which might leave Real Madrid too much to do. That's me trying to look at the PSG angle but like Stevie says O'Malley said who know the game. You can't rely on them. You can't rely on them. And when you look at what they've got, they've got marquinhos at the back and done a rumor and marking us as a game changer. He's an incredible defender. Then you think, well, who's banging from Real Madrid? 8 hour militar and mendy at left back Carver hall right back. Luka Modrić was man of the match against Atlético Madrid. Tony croes has been on fire, casimiro and then benzene must have in the season of his life as well. So I think all in all, I think this is a popcorn game where you sit back and this could be any scoreline and it could be four three to anyone, but I would just lean towards Real Madrid, but only just this is tight. Wow, just absolutely no respect for your boys. No respect, that's a disgrace. I mean, the boys speak the truth, that's the thing, you know my heart says PSG, of course, my head agrees with them in the sense that these PhD team will have to improve massively between now and February. Pochettino will have to give them a structure and identity more balance. There's so much work and we saw that again on Sunday Night against Monaco where they were not even the better side PSG. So so much to work on really to be ready for a class like that was for Real Madrid. It's all about make sure that benzene and venues is still high on confidence like it is now that Modric is fit and rested, cruise the same. No one is on a yellow or no one is all of that is fine and then I think you'll be in a very strong position. Of course, there's a lot of narratives and bappe by then be a random player for next season before even facing them. You've got color on security coming back to PhD. There's so many stories that can I think have an impact on the game for sure, but just tactics actually and football wise, I think right now there's a team down there knows exactly what to do that's where Madrid and controlled games and a PhD team that still looking for the best way of attacking and defending altogether. And Joseph's interest we've talked a lot from the Real Madrid perspective, but obviously PSG originally withdrawal Manchester United and then go to rear Madrid. I imagine the reaction in France wasn't the exactly one of joyous celebration when that came out. No, no, no, at all. And again, we had loads of great stories from the first world. The Ronaldo Messi, the 2019 of revenge, if you want, there were so many good narratives then. And obviously nice Real Madrid. And I think there's there's even more heavy story. All we're going to talk about between now and February when the first leg is played is, what about kilian? Kenan and he's allowed to is able to sign for rumors if he wants on January 1st. I like one plus midnight one minute past midnight. The thing is, I don't think him and his family can now start negotiating with rummaged for that pre contract, considering there's a game 6 weeks later in the Champions League. So even that, in a way, he's going to change and disturb what we thought was going to be the calendar, okay. First off, John, you're free to sign. You're going to start talking to rumors because it's inevitable. I think they would be those negotiation taking place. And but now this is going to mess up, I think a lot of the plans that both end up in this camp and run Madrid had before the draw was made. So this is going to be fascinating to follow. Central Ramos, I'm in Ramos if it's going back to Madrid. What kind of reception environment context? How will we feel? So much so much to talk about between now and the first thing. So for Manchester United, of course, they went from facing PSG to athletic home with.

"There, it will be Real Madrid against Peter. She no doubt about it. The biggest draw of them all when you take a look at the matchups as welcoming Don Hutchinson and Juliana Ron Jules, let's just address around which it's point because they kind of have a point, don't they? In the sense that when they drew Benfica, everything was legit. It just went horribly wrong after that. So isn't it a case that maybe you a could have sought the draw from that point? I guess so, again, you can't just say, well, let's take those two teams out of the draw and have a draw with only 1410s. It doesn't make any sense either. You need to be able to have a legal draw and proper draw this time. You needed all 16 teams that qualify not just 14 and the two that are on their own on the side because their game was run the first hour of the two parts. So it's just not doable at all for you to do it with everybody apart from Benfica and rummaged. You understand frustration of being drawn out with PhD and messier Mbappé and et cetera Zeus and Benfica. But that was the only way that UFI could have done. And to be fair, they probably should have stopped once the monster united, name came out and start all over again from that moment, not just complete that first rule and then think this was not good enough, let's go again. Maybe nobody will notice. Go over and everything will be good. Do you have any sympathy for Real Madrid at all, ally? No, no sympathy, but here's the thing. Once that first draw was nonsense, then you want to get rid of it as quickly as you possibly can and say, hey, you know what? You know what we're going to do? We're going to start over. And nothing from that first drug can actually play a part in the second draw. You have to separate it too. So you have to start all over. And from that perspective, I know around my read, fans and grandma read themselves are frustrated, but it's the only way to do it. You couldn't just have, hey, this group over here. That works out for us. So yeah, Real Madrid, we're going to do your favorite. You're going to play Benfica. No, you have to start all over. And everybody starts over, including the Madrid. A lot of questions coming in, asking about your involvement in all of this. The external service provider. Yeah, it was me. I took the toothpaste, though. But if you're real I'm a drug, you can't get that thought, oh, you're health. Wow, we've got Benfica and no we've got PSG. You can't change it, and you can get it over your head. That's why I'm saying it's like a toothpaste. It's too late. Welcome to the point of where Rama Madrid had actually put it out on their social media accounts. Yeah, we're going to portrait. They're putting like a Portuguese flag on and we're going to be in FIFA. That's it. And then it's like, no wait a minute. We're actually not going there. It's embarrassing for everybody, but most of all for UFO. It's embarrassing, but don't it's quite funny. It's quite funny, but can you imagine, imagine the talking points if they are to excluded Real Madrid and Benfica and you said, right, do you know what we'll do? Did you just put them to one side? Could you imagine the conversations that would have went on, it would have been ludicrous? I mean, in the end, all right, they're trying to say it's sort of a technical fault and software for human error, whatever it might be. But I mean, we saw this weekend in sport with the F one, isn't that lawyers embarrasses? I get dragged into sport, which is just incredible. I mean, the one man you want to be, I would imagine you want to be Real Madrid barrister because he is a busy man lately, isn't he over the last 18 months? But they've done the right thing. I think pep was on TV today to say, listen, you've just got to forget about it. The draw was done correctly in the end. It was embarrassing, yes. But in the end, the drawers correct and it is what it is and if your Real Madrid now, obviously you're chewing because you want to Benfica and now you've got PSG, which is a hard pill to swallow. Hey, Jill, wasn't the Super League all about though, these big teams meeting week in week out this one from a team that there is dream that was a moment about. Exactly, Benfica would not be in the Super League. Those magic invitations that, you know, they would have given out to some to the lucky ones. So hey, you know, why are you complaining about? "Welcome to next edition of ESPN FC. I'm Dan Thomas. So joining the studio today by hallelujah and Stephen nichol a little later on the show Mark and Berg will be here as we'll be talking about some of those controversial decisions from the weekend, but speaking of controversial, let's start, shall we? With the Champions League jaw, which went seamlessly today. This was like original draw. That was made. However, it quickly became apparent there were quite a few problems with the draw because if you look back at it, united and viria which one of the same pot, they were in the same group, of course, Liverpool, including the draw front lighting, they are in the same group, and Manchester United were not including in Athletico Madrid's draw. So obviously something had to be done. So what did they do? UEFA blame big sternal problem. The computer software. Following a technical problem with a software sternal service provider that instructs the officials as to which team are eligible to play each other and material error occurred in the draw for the UEFA Champions League round of 6 stain. Dale Johnson, meanwhile, tweeting just to verify things. UEFA hasn't cooked up a draw before because it's all computer program. The computer says who is eligible to face each team. But the computer said virile can face anyone, including Manchester United and Real Madrid, and nobody noticed it hadn't been programmed correctly. So, obviously, it had to be redone. Real Madrid though wanted to be redone after that. Oh, look at that. And baker again valley coming out and said round when people ask you a for if they're reading the draw to start after the ball came up because mistakes were made after that UEFA went. No, we are going to do this all again and fortunately second time round. It went smoothly, not though, from around Madrid perspective because obviously who would you prefer to faze Benfica or BSG? Well, in the end, Carlo Ancelotti's side will face PSG in the next round, as opposed to the Portuguese outfit. Rihanna January got a great relationship. Haven't they? So they took it on the chin. Well, Amelia brought you on coming out and saying the situation was surprising regrettable and very hard to understand when you take into account the millions of fans who are following the draw. Not quite sure that had to do anything. Meanwhile, an ESPN FC article reacting to the draw from around Madrid perspective went even further saying, Rihanna did a furious with UEFA over their shameful handling of the Champions League round the 16 drawer. It is a lie. But it was a software error, a club source told ESPN, it is human error beginning with the second pairing our pairing Real Madrid Benfica was legal. We are.

"Got Halle, they got mobile playmakers they could cut they could really cause an untitled backline a lot of trouble. A lot of trouble. Even Barcelona gets by and having lost three nil. Did cause trouble. Yeah, that a couple of chances in the first half as well. The kind of chances that a center Ford a bit more street wise to use your word would have put away. Memphis much less of a fixed point. I love Memphis for many reasons, but in terms of a fixed point as a 9, hallett, traditional 9 against an unsettled bind defends the Champions League could do some damage. I quite like the chances against him. But the thing is all match ups in the Champions League. That's the point is all match ups is who you get the draw. And one from Matthew gold is saying can I ask win it, but that's I think we've kind of answered that for you. I've already said like I said, do you think Chelsea should be on notice with how bad the back line has been lately? Especially with the potential of playing Biden Madrid or ix in the next round. No, because I think they had a wobble last season as well undertook a couple of games here and there where they were just they didn't really fire. And I think also a couple of results where they a couple of the poor results they've had in this little run that they've been on. They've actually played pretty well. I think they played really well against Burnley. And it was just one of those. Yeah. Plus that Malan saw against Senate Malan saw instead of rudiger. And that's not a suspicious melancholy. If you look at rudiger and his personality in his role at bringing the ball up, him missing reconfigures the entire Chelsea defense. It's basically different defense. So people forget it's not just individual.

Some Players Aren't Convinced by US Soccer's 'Identical' Men's and Women's Contracts

"So. This story arose on tuesday afternoon. That us soccer has offered identical contracts to both the us men and women On the surface you would look at that and say oh well the. Us would have been asking for equal pay and it appears as though they have achieved that they do not see it that way. No they don't they issued a tweet from their. Us national team he eh. So players association us pr stunts and bargaining through. The media will not bring us any closer to a fair agreement. In contrast we're committed to bargaining in good faith to achieve equal pay and the safest working conditions. Possible the proposal. That usf made recently recently to us does neither. Now here's where we have a problem. what i would say is knowledge vacuum. I don't know what was in that proposal. I don't know the ins and outs of the pause. meg From the athletic. Who just great on this she tweets. Us soccer just issued a statement on the us women's national team on us mnt cba's it states that usf has offered identical contract proposals today proposing single cbs structure with revenue sharing usf believes best way to achieve these important goals is by the us women's national team players association on the us ns tpa negotiating together. That's the men's association however this quote marks this is from us soccer if the players association's choose to continue to negotiate separately as they have to date us. "And the defies that is coming over his services if he if he continues to develop that is going to be is gonna be epic. it's it's amazing. I still chocolate and laughed at birmingham. They retired his jersey seventeen term many games. He actually played for them in the championship. But they they retired as number blah. Yeah on unbelievable. Talent just amazing and And it'll the clamor for him. Actually the clamor won't happen until he moves to england. I take it was going to say the clamor for soak it to find a space for him. I mean i would have played them. Way more in In the summer into the european championships bought it was unlikely to happen with the manager. Like garrett's okay. But i'm young and finally one other one. i want to mention. Jj i wanted to give props to sheriff terrorists bowl from moldova but from dover oh go on finish what you're going to sell. They won today in their champions league. Debut this tiny club that through qualifying got through into the group stage of the champions league and then they were victorious in their first champions league match. The little guys score one for the little guys. Jj but i'm curious where you're headed with the later they they. They scored two brilliant goals So it was interesting because they were playing schachter donuts so shatters plight will be familiar. The ukrainian champions have been playing an exile in lily. Mlive kharkov and now the capital kiev. Since the eastern city of donetsk became embroiled in a war involving russian-backed separatists in two thousand fourteen. I'm reading from a german football magazine. W less well known are deputies sheriff terrorist ball the first ever representatives of the republic of moldova in the champions league but while you and indeed the broader international community officially considered the city of terrorist. Ball to be moldovan most inhabitants would insist that their city is the capital of trans denise easter or transnistria so they are A kind of a separate entity And that's the consider themselves so they don't see themselves as moldovan although for probably ease that's that's what you if i have them categorized interesting didn't didn't know any of that so to places that are kind of i won't say they don't exist but they are in their in the nether zone of In terms of international recognition in international borders their stadium seats a little over twelve. Just under thirteen thousand. So that's like Born stadium yeah. I guess yes. That's yeah and they are in the champions league pretty cool. That is pretty corporate. You have anything else on this. Initial set of champions league matches. Jj not off the top of my head andrew. It was it was incredibly enjoyable. It's nice to have the back and Yeah you know we said. There's too much football. But i i most people don't. I don't think this falls into that category. I only say that we talk about you. Know club world cops and champions contests and florida derby's or whatever this falls into the category of. Oh yeah but the good stuff doesn't happen until after the group stage. Well i disagree. Enjoyed groups. Now i i. I disagree with that too. I think this is awesome. Yeah wouldn't mess with us. Sadly that will change. But i would not mess with this good thing. You are too late with your mess warnings. I know they have already begun. Yeah they have massed. It just doesn't take effect until was next year. I'm trying to remember which year after. No no no no to twenty four twenty three twenty four. Oh by the way there was one other thing i wanted to mention. I don't want to forget about chelsea as they won. Romo lukaku is proving his worth as we figured he would. I mean it was brilliant signing to the team like they've already won this competition and how much better they might be from the team that they did it with A got a little bit. I mean it was close this one but chelsea do start out with three points. Their title defence is off to the to the right start grohl from as political editor lukaku. Who nods at home. So yeah very good start. Let's take a quick break when we come back a couple things. I wanna mention on the other side. some stuff with. Us soccer red cards man of the match. Maybe we'll talk about that in just a sec. Don't go anywhere more caught. Offside still to come back now. Cough side Jay you mentioned before the things that you that you hate in life. I'm trying to remember what i've already forgotten what they were. But it reminded me I actually text you about this. I i was on the train the other day. What do what do we think of people who are just on their speaker phone on a quiet trade evil. The worst people in the world. What is that. What like. I don't know i i don't have that gene. That would allow me that. Would i would feel so free around. Total strangers that i know are feeling nothing but contempt for me. Like how do people operate in such an oblivious way but that's okay to be on a speakerphone on train. I think they're they're levels of self importance they attract. They want you to hit them. They want they will take the hatred in exchange for being noticed in their life. There is no other reason. I talking loudly and explicitly on your cell phone on. The subway is as the the actions of a maniac. I agree and i was on this all right. This is an all timer on the train. Wants coming in and it was totally quiet. It was like early morning people commuting to work. Jj the guy behind me on the train full volume no porn on his ipad. Just didn't care did nine bear god. New york city is a fascinating place. All abbott chimera. Let's full disclosure here while not full disclosure. because that would be horrendous. Put the tran line. You were coming in on those days was. This wasn't the subway. "But they've replaced him with like breath with extra strong upfront and dion. So it's as you're watching this like what i'm trying to do when i'm watching a game like this with barcelona is i'm trying to consider okay. Is this like every team can have a bad game like like i just said it was massey's barcelona that lost eight to munich So was it that or like. Was this sort of you know when we talked to. Who was at simon cooper before the season and you know he basically said that. There are those within barcelona who believe they are now entering a phase sort of like where manchester united. Maybe not now are now like where they were. The last several seasons of just like sometimes qualify for champions league. Sometimes we won't. We won't really be a threat to win it but we'll hang around. Yeah maybe this was the initial sign that. That's that's where barcelona our game against bar munich. Who are great. You know but recent innovations of barcelona. We expect to compete with them. Obviously and like they just can't and this is maybe. This is the new era that we're entering so we're probably entering a phase pre guardiola pre Reichert so kinda like louis van early. Two thousands early two thousands where they had players. They were interesting. I'm pre- ronaldinho. But they weren't sworn defective and they day weren't they weren't so distinctive. I this barcelona. We know the things they do. Well we right up until last year even they still could be barcelona and they were recognizable. Now they have to go into what we asked grim hunter about last summer. Are they prepared for life without messy and It's going to take some some recalibration and it's not gonna help anything when you see that Patriots broken down already after playing ten thousand game. I was gonna say calendar year. It's not surprised. I mean it's it was it was in the it was bound to happen eventually So yeah it was kinda depressing. Your outlook i also. I know. Sometimes i we. Everyone does this kind of like this pendulum. Whichever way it's swinging. That's where we all are the prisoner of the moment. I still think they're a good now. I don't think they can win this competition. They've got this. I don't view them as as any kind of real threat in the champions league. They're not they're not that anymore today. But like i'm not ready to to rule out their chances and la league necessarily. They're not my pick to win that league. But like i don't i don't know that i'm in a place where i'm just like completely finished and writing them off as kind of a you know. Fifth playside andrew dare Look at it on paper. you know. They've got some decent players but you know her stig okay. Pk just an unbelievable career hind him. Bush gets the same. Or you know. They're older now. You have a frankie diong. Who is a class player like really really class but you know. It's a difficult moment to be at. Barcelona pedri unbelievable player. But you know it looks so ordinary without l. messy and the team even with like look at look at the guys that led the line yesterday. Memphis to pie. Okay has had a bringing few seasons resurrecting his career. Leon but you know this is a. This is a few rungs up the ladder. Luke is starting for barcelona. it's weird it's weird transition time. There's no question about that is and got a manager in kumon that i don't know if that's the manager they really wanted but it's the one they have be a financial circumstances or whatever Yeah this is. This is going to be a weird season for them but in league they played three so far. Haven't lost yet. To wins one draw. They put four passos adad. So no we'll see like it's going to be a weird season for them but like you said there are still good players there and But yeah i think. As far as european dominance goes. I think this was. This was a sign that does not surprisingly those days are over now. Using the work dominance. You wanna know what dominance looks like. Jj but that how about one hundred thirteen goals in ninety three games. That's competitive club. Only since two thousand nineteen two thousand twenty that leads all players in europe's top five leagues in that span. That's robert levin danski. So one hundred thirteen goals since nineteen twenty. That's the most second is imbaba. Rinaldo with seventy six. The gap between levin doffs ski and second is insane. This guy is a machine. You can score goals in every way with his head with his feet. He's fast he is the perfect number nine And i am such a fan of watching him And he would not score road. Even when he's not scoring for his country he's wriggling around in the box in the ninth minute against england and standing a ball to the fire post for his team it to equalize. Yeah in the international break. He's class andrew. There's very little else to be said about. Except could he be one of those guys. We thought it might happen with obama yang but there is a clear. There is a definite declined but one of those guys where you're like in his thirties. He's going to do well. He's going to be just fine. He's going to be worth the money. You're talking about him making a move. No no no well he. He floated before the start of the season he he. He wasn't batted away by the way he is thirty three now. I mean he's there like that's i know you're talking about what you're you're what you're asking is happening right now. He's but glenn's the foot wins. The fall off happened. That i mean but i'm saying how good he looks now. I'd say we're at least two years away from it while that's that's that's two more years of that. That's that's special in that span that i talked about. So since nineteen twenty. He ever does a goal. Every seventy one minutes during that span converts twenty-seven percent of his shots. There is one player who has a better shot conversion rate. In that time you know who know another guy whose name was In the news for positive reasons during these first champions league matches now arlanda erling holland. Thirty percent of his shots he converts that's That's amazing for players with at least one hundred shots taken limited ascii one hundred thirteen goals in that time and second is in bopping rinaldo with seventy six that is just another level that he absolutely yeah Let's see let's move. Let's move to today if that's all right with you. Yes let's go to your team now. It was one of those one of those nights. Jj there was those famous. European night's anfield. You can't deny them. You can make fun of them all you. I'm not making fun of anything. They exist their thing. They're special nights other places too but Not only their the the way. The way liverpool started out one it could have been four nil at certain should have been tuned l. at halftime Mohammed saleh missing the penalty. After trent alexander arnold put them when the law and then Expose i wouldn't blame joel. Not to put on the site of of defense. Things had a brief lapse for half time and Redditch and.

Yes they're gonna win most weeks they're going to be in. It's afraid it's going to be taught race in the league this season and it looks like boston and going to be involved in it. But not in any compensation so we need champions day for me the not in any conversation to win the group however on the basis of the hub form on the basis that they will win home games against benfica dynamo kiev. I do think boston i know. We'll go through. And his group in second place at a strike full cost market here of buying first boston august. Second eleven wait does a The reversal of balsam unfussy by munich is eleven to every other scenario is big then five to one. But i'm not going to talk about it because i don't see it Buying and ball selected to qualify for any order is at four to seven. I'll tell you that may be the absolute still. I understand that it's That it's minus money here. I understand that is juice on it but come on the key really make a case for bossa and by munich. Not qualifying here from this group. I'm so surprised that we see now for seven for me. When we're looking at the likes of inter admiral qualified to two seven and nps geomancy wants a three. I have this in the same category. I think the benfica being very overrated. Here as a threat the qualification. From the group odds have bomb munich. One nine boss alone here at once three again value To to and beg fica and thirteen to kiev. So lots of stuff. I like their from that group. Had i look dot com for all of my official plays but of course there will be look at the end of the show and i can tell you ready. It will involve something here from group..

"Today's champions league final. We saw chelsea beat manchester city by one goal to nail says in the first half proving to be the difference between. That's a side as chelsea under thomas to co. Go on and win. The second champions league practices such open. Start this game. It was great sometimes. These finals the teams cancelling each other out. This quite we all to say yeah. I don't think any that even took in these players himself would have understood the city. We're going to have the bulk of the possession. Not that wasn't gonna worry jokes in look at chelsea in the positive side to start and sort of meander to losing coach. But you've got to take off to this club a abramovich and has people do not mess around. They made unpopular decision with some and sacking. Frank lampard a guy who had been an amazing servant to that club was a player but they felt they had to make a decision. This is a club just makes decisions right or wrong. You may agree or disagree made it. It was sorry cutthroat but it took her available. Let's go out. Let's get right experienced coach track record and he combined and i don't think i've seen a managed land the squads as fast as he. You think of all the changes. He made the first half a dozen game. He didn't he didn't know what that best eleven was going to be. It was the hudson a wingback. Lonzo the was chair willing to team. It was moan- team and he basically threw everybody together and not squad on. He lends a every player strength and weakness. He's on the job while still getting enough results to get them in the top four. Yeah and i think that was an amazing piece management fink about him. He just said to abramovich when he was taking this job. I'll talk for genetic cup final. Which doesn't play well. I know win the champions league for you. it probably would go out. The joe said you know if you roll. But he's pulled off the tip. My cup has been. He has done an absolutely amazing job with escorted

Will Liverpool, Leicester or Chelsea Qualify for the UCL?

"Let's start at. What was i think. Effectively may not turn out to be this way chelsea could still go out but a play off for the champions league between chelsea and leicester city it's bridge was a replay of the game on saturday. Then you have a cup final Homemade some not all of the same choices including putting my man reese james in the back three convince And chelsea one. I think in the end it was to wind. And you could say maybe you're gonna start at the end but i thought chelsea really really dominated the day. That was their god. They were after they were really fantastic at times. In the way they build up the movement away from the back under pressure at times. I still alice the plate for draw. And maybe i'm wrong. Maybe that's not. That was the idea. But he's certainly felt like that in in the team that selected with natural on the bench in the way they played in the weather priced. Look to me via merged lockheed. Very happy with that was fair well. Madison came in. So we can have madison. I thought was really poor. I don't think he's fully fit. Maybe no he's on your hard if you play for a draw to to have my against a team like this against him chetty like this to to to expect too much from madison. Nothing the upshot of all this is that we're set up for one of those end of the season kinda three way runs but three-way dances chelsea are playing away to aston villa. A win guarantees them. A champions league. Place is only going to be easy at all we'll get on to this lester. I'm liverpool liverpool beating burnley three now essentially if they both way and they're gonna finish level on points it's going to be decided by goal difference and liverpool now have an edge of four goals in the goal difference so so liver put up again chris perez. That's right liverpool roy. Hodgson his final his final game. He loved to put one over liverpool and less spurs. Who can still still have to play for your petty place. Yeah so clearly lester. Greatly advantage giving. Now just kidding kidding

Hat-Trick Fires Man City to Victory

"Let's start in the premier league. Just the one match on friday but a pretty good one at that at least dramatic manchester city four three winners over newcastle actually had to come from behind twice did city and thanks to a federal authorities. Hat trick they will pick up the three points. What does it mean for. The table will not much manchester city. Already clinching the title. Thanks to manchester united defeat earlier this week. Third manchester city premier league title under pet. Why are the orla. Joining us for more craig. Burley and nato new. Oh we'll hear from them in just a little bit. But stevie i'll start with you. A seven goal thriller. Probably not what we expected from this game pretty good. You didn't expect goals. I didn't expect four three now. No i expect goals. This is a game. That really didn't mean an awful lot to either saying god. The talking about the game between the champions league final could be a chance for some day. A player themselves in i mean. Do you really think fell torres with three. Goals has pleaded these. We the jumping sleek start out late. I don't think so. I thought that was going to be goes in a unusual. I thought they were going to score. I didn't think they were going to lose three at the end of the day. The good game to watch but Really you know law the native eight changes for manchester city from the eleven that we saw in that second leg against psg in the champions league semi-final. It tells you kind of what. I was thinking about this match.

Oh and mason mount craig. This was this was easy. You just looked at that. Stop and out the talk lane and you watch the game and saw sixty seven percent possession real madrid for maybe a little bit unlucky. No not all. I mean not unlucky. Lucky lucky it was only to know. I mean yeah. Lots of possession but but very positive side wayside with by the way forward sideways only injected a life when it dropped of carrying benz among the first half when he got accepted or amid a good run into the baltimore. This club thrive on its cope with so much success real madrid and yet they were so meek and so ponderous in the performance the the fact that chelsea beat them by four. Maybe five goals honestly. Karim Benzema Earns Real Madrid Draw Against Chelsea

"The back of the english newspapers dominated by chelsea's one one draw against rambler. We can pull this off a young a lot on the back. Page and stop in spain. Marker going with a draw to keep dreaming meanwhile benz emma is. It was an interesting game wasn't in the spanish capital dominated once again from a strike as perspective about team verners. Miss chances yagan thomas to coming out afterwards and saying you know this. Is this kind of life. This is what's happening with him at the moment. How much trust have you within him again. That he can find the back of the net once again. Maybe soon i've total trust in him because he knows where to be in the right time and right now maybe there. He misses one and that specific moment. So so that's something to deal with for strike. Oh and you have to kind of just think about the next opportunity comes along like you know michael jordan said so he missed more shots than east called and t-mobil no. It's just like you know if you fail moments it makes you only stronger and the kit is good. The kid has a tremendous amount of drive and talent and he knows where the ball will fall in the box and he can also know makes things happen himself of his speed and going at people. So i'm i totally have trust. And t mobile. He will go through that stage and who knows. Maybe he's causing the next game in the second leg or he's goals in the final of the champions league you know. He was very young when he was twenty. One being meaning the golden boot at the confederations cup in russia in two thousand seventeen and he scored one hundred goals in the gym bundestag already. And he's only twenty five to kit is good and a kid will prove it but obviously it has to deal with the criticism when you miss a big chance. That's normal night. Goalkeepers do as well when they make a mistake. You know the the all over them but I hope that he gets plenty of opportunities going forward.

Craig let's start with you and just talk about the then. If half time. I told you the city. We're going to win this game. Two one it would be a big stretch pants completely. Dominant well at halftime. If you said to me we're going to play in the monitoring wasted the second half of would have been surprised. That's how big a turnaround was and credit to them for that dot was they set the and the second that we know can perform but the so much talk about for all the guys just quick summary here yeah they look to let tentative mindset in the first half wary but that was known to what. Psg dead psg. The depressed setting normally have that flustered. seti pushed back to the walls the edge of the box when psg varada was coming in off that left side when they didn't eavesdropping by making a four foot. Making it difficult and set. You looked flustered but then swung sixty. He followed up the field and he's economic mindset people nado silver pushed up the brain appreciate they got the press on and they passed so much better from a possession of twentieth thirty yards higher up the field so the starting position in the second half was so much better. An passing in the second half was so much crisper excellent.

The Life and Death of the European Super League

"So adam now that we've seen basically all of the team's pull out of the super league as of now. I think it's just real madrid and barcelona that are still in it. Can we pronounce the super league dead. Does it still have a faint pulse. Where do we stand. I think we can say it's dying. These clubs will now have to richards. Ufo and previously. They have really significant seats at that table. They were on the board. They were putting over levers of power in their absence. Carrie sandra mona buying if take the biggest seats of influence because the other clubs they will resigned from that position is not a disaster for these clubs in that going back to but it's certainly intended and is the super league dead forever. I don't think you can ever say is dead forever because these clubs still have the most interest this still drive. The revenue drive the interest and if they were able to organize themselves. I'm putt larry. Goes to one side and come up with a real strategic plan an email communications plan. It's not inconceivable that this could happen in the fuchsia. But i think it would take very very very great. People to stall is compensation gain afterwards being the most kilometers. Forty eight hours. You a champions league is set to resume on tuesday of next week and at one. Point uefa the organizers of the champions league had threatened to ban super league players and teams from participating in the champions league rail madrid as of now has not withdrawn from the super league and they're scheduled to play in the champions league semi-finals. Is there a possibility that real madrid will get the boot from the champions league. That's a really good question while we're talking gone while we wednesday afternoon. Super League Idea Collapses as Clubs Back out

"Or super greed? That's the question or bust. Oh, yeah, just called that no super buzz. So have you heard about this? They were going to be what 12 teams in the soccer leagues overseas in Europe or whatnot, some of the best of the best of the best of the best. They're going to create a Super League, so they're gonna leave their current leagues and all joined together and create this huge Super League that Ah lot of these owners would make tons of money on and they would leave everyone else in the dust will now that's falling apart. Mainly because of fan reaction. The world not having this. Joining us in studio is our own Premier League aficionados. Stony better, although I know you Tony Premier League I, but you follow this. So essentially, that's basically in layman's terms. What happened here right? Like they were trying to create a Super League And now the reaction's been so poor? Yes. So you've got all these different soccer leagues across Europe, and then you've got your big clubs here. Moneymakers People are familiar with. And they wanted to pretty much join forces make this bottomless pit of revenue because you'll get the TV ratings. He'll get all this excitement because fans all around the world coming together. Depends. Yeah, Best of the best, which is there is something already in place like that which is the Champions League. And that's the best of the best for all these clubs. They qualify for it each year, the year before, and then they play in this massive tournament. And essentially, that's kind of what gives these smaller clubs the whole because anybody can qualify for this, they'll still be able to get in. But right now, so no matter how you perform, you could have these big money market teams, and then they would compete year in and year out, essentially closing the door on the little guy and fans of these big teams. Do they look at it like their owners? They're selling them out, so that's why they were so frustrated taking to the streets protesting So was the
