"The movie to see this weekend, the superhero film, Black Panther, Wakanda forever The project. Is our one time. I spoke to cuya P of nerds rule the world about whether the new movie lives up to its sky high expectations. John yes, such high expectations, I was one of the many that we're curious what we were going to do with Black Panther would kind of forever. As we all know, if you're a deep MCU fan, you know that Chadwick Boseman played our Black Panther and regretfully passed away from colon cancer, but amazingly what we all found out is he was fighting colon cancer while making all these other previous films such a hero to his family to his craft and to everyone that he wanted to entertain with his work. We were all curious. How are we going to entertain his real death with the film? The studio chose to continue to move on with the film and integrate that into the story. And I will say having now seen the film and now available to everyone, I think they did a proper send off to this great man, this great actor, and also to the character within the universe as we know it T'Challa, the Black Panther, it's an amazing film. You're going to want to bring the tissues because they do talk about loss in such a profound and respectful way that you're going to, if you're an empath, you're going to feel it. I know three specific moments that I cried and I will say at the beginning and at the very end and there's a moment in between there, but there's a lot of moments where you're going to feel very sentimental. You'll feel those tears coming down your eye. But beyond just the tears though, I will say, this is an action film. This is a superhero film. It has a lot of adventure in here. A lot of marvel films in marvel shows this past year from what I hear from the critics have not been as fulfilling as previous years. I will say they give it to you in this one. So while we're fighting through tears, we are also cheering throughout in this film we get introduced to one of the legendary marvel characters in prince namor, played by tenoch huerta. We integrate the Atlantis themes that we know from the comic into a more mesoamerican theme in the tallow can, which I think is so beautiful and plays such respect to that culture. So that integration of culture with the namor universe to me is amazing to you P of nerds rule the world on Skype. Coming up big developments affecting which party controls the Senate, it's 6 13. My

"Am queen of the powerful nation in the world. And my entire family is gone. So the question is, does the movie live up to its fans expectations? Well, let's find out with Washington Post film critic and Horner day, good afternoon, and this film had to reckon with the death of its beloved star Chadwick Boseman. Not just for the film, but also his character. So how do we figure all that out? Well, John, they figured it out the filmmaker Ryan coogler saw that by just leaning into it. And so he starts right in the middle of shuri T'Challa's sister played by letitia Wright, desperately trying to save his life. So we really, we really catch up in the moment, and he just addresses it head on. And there's a very moving opening scene after that scene. There's a Montage that kind of mar vell shuffle that we're all familiar with is dedicated to Jasmine Boseman. And then a really moving funeral scene. And I think there it would have been perfectly fine and reasonable to kind of keep the action moving. But instead, Googler chooses to really dedicate the whole movie to process our feelings around this loss. And I can understand that because it's a huge loss, but it really underscores what for me was the biggest weakness of the film, which is not there anymore. And this film really made me realize just how central Chadwick Boseman has been was to that first movie. For all of the beauty and rich richness of that first movie in terms of the world building and the production values, his absence is a real problem. And they have tried to kind of introduce new characters and fill in the blanks with a lot of the female characters, which is always encouraging. But I have to say, I was not impressed with the script. I thought it was overstuffed and over long. And kind of dreary at points. And again, it just sort of leaves you really missing Chadwick Boseman more than ever, which might have been the point. Hey, Ann, thanks so much for that. But I guess fans will still want to see it, right? Absolutely no question Hillary fans are going to want to see it. And I think they'll probably welcome the chance. Again, to process our feelings. All right. And that's perfectly fine. Okay. Thanks, have a good weekend. Thank you both. Washington Post film critic

"I'm always ready for podcast. Okay. Arguably the most anticipated movie of the year. Coogler's back, his co writer Robert Joe Robert Cole is back for the film. Of course, tragically Chadwick Boseman is not back for this film and so that's one of the major challenges of this story. First reactions, band, what'd you think? Couldn't believe they did it. Couldn't believe that they did it. Went to the movie with not anticipation. With fear. With fear of, I've been very open about this about the reality that I thought the character of T'Challa should have been recast. The reasons why I felt that should have happened. I have fear. I had fear, not that the movie wouldn't be good. I thought that that was, you have a lot of capable creatives. They were going to make a good movie that people liked. I had fear of having to say goodbye to chat with Boseman again. I did not want to say goodbye to chat again. I said goodbye, chat once. Out of nowhere. Hurt. Very painful. And the movie had to do that. There was no way around it. So to have a film where we get swept up in this gigantic sort of struggle between these two countries, these two civilizations, these two different sort of perspectives, is one thing. But doing that while having to remind everyone that we lost our hero, he's gone. And that he is almost in the movie more because he's not in the movie because every single scene you're thinking, what would Chad do? What was T'Challa doing? What would this do? And that's I'm not trying to be unfair to everybody else. I was scared, but I left the movie fulfilled. You know? So it was tough. You

"Trailer conties out? So the tone of that trailer was simultaneously memorializing in the late Chadwick Boseman, who played Black Panther before at what he died in 2020. And there was the trader was kind of sampled. That's going to be he will be dead in the MCU. This character will be dead. And so that'll be acknowledging the movie, which I think is the right call. And then a successor and there are lots of theories about who his success will be will emerge in that movie. Right. We saw a moment with the new Black Panther, but really I had like an angle, kind of obscured, you sell the claws, you saw this for the backside a little bit. Not enough to really tell who that might be. I'll be look, there are lots of theories unlike with that tangent. That's a whole nother episode for sure. Exactly. Who was the next Black Panther? Well, switching gears because we don't have a lot of time left, which is fitting because we're talking about D.C., there isn't that much time required. Comparatively speaking, what did we get from the other big comic player? We got exactly what they promised us and no surprises nothing more. We got a trailer for Shazam two, which looks like a whole lot of phone. I really enjoyed that first movie. I didn't think about it too much afterwards, but it was a lot of fun and just great casting. And good writing. And then Black Adam, which looks like the most obvious The Rock blockbuster I've ever seen. And it's being marketed like it's something different, and it's just doesn't feel like anything different. It feels like an attempt to be edgy. It's like I kill people, and that's what makes me different other superheroes. What a lot of D.C. super heroes in these movies have killed people. They've killed quite a few people. Batman Superman have quite the body count already. So look, you go to have to do better than that, D.C.. Sorry. Yeah, we'll see. And it seemed like the reaction at least in hall H to the D.C. presentation was a lot. Less muted. Bordering on disappointing given that there were a lack of surprises relative to marvel, which just pulled out all the socks. I think maybe they are putting the brakes on promoting the slash because of the allegations around Ezra Miller and so that maybe puts them in a tough position. And a lot of people, it seemed like there was a rumor that Henry Calvin was going to appear and say, I'm going to be Superman again, but I don't know the circumstances around that. It's like people were trying to will to happening. And I've tried to wield things that are happening. That I want, but they also don't and sometimes you just have to accept that. You might not be trying hard enough, Sean. Maybe you just got a will harder. Yes, and we're very hard on Twitter. Well, thank you. I guess lastly, any other big Comic-Con news that we missed that isn't related to D.C. or marvel. I mean, what else matters? I mean, look, there were new federals for Lord of the Rings. The child has come into Amazon and house the dragon Game of Thrones. Show that's coming to HBO Max. But they're both very soon. And so at this point, feel a little redundant. And it's just like, I don't know, hyping up the show and not being able to say much and just having a bit of a laugh with the cast. There isn't much newsy there. Whereas marvel was extremely newsy. And look, marvel strategy or Disney strategy is to basically get people to theaters and to get them to describe it in place. From that perspective, it was a rip roaring success. I just hope there are good. Right. Well, that's the execution is always key. So, well, Sean, thank you for your time and for this very comprehensive run through. "Film writer for The AV Club Jack. Welcome. Hi, Peter. Thanks so much for having me. Good to have you. So for those of us who have never been to or maybe don't know much about Comic-Con, what's it like, especially this year after such a long break for the pandemic? Yeah, especially after two years of virtual editions of Comic-Con, it does feel like excitement is higher than ever at this one. It's sort of remains to be seen whether attendance levels will be at the same as it was in 2019. Yesterday was just preview day. So I didn't see the full extent of the costuming. That will be in effect today. And I think that's where we can see the real enthusiasm. And they will all have masks, I guess it remains to be seen, which of the masks will be coordinated with the costumes. Really, okay, max for COVID. So I know you haven't seen a lot of the costumes yet, but people love to do cosplay at this convention. Based on what you know about what's popular in the culture right now, who do you expect to be the most popular, I don't know, characters depicted at this Comic-Con. Oh, yeah. GCN marvel rule here. They are the two kind of tent poles of all of pop culture at the moment. So you can expect to see mutants and marvel superheroes and maybe Black Adam, which is the next big DC Universe feature film. I don't know, I'm trying to think of what is the lowest maintenance costume that certain people might show up in. It remains to be seen what will be the most popular. What about you? Do they let the journalists dress up? I was wondering the same thing. Generally, the journalists do not dress up, I think if you throw on a Spock ear here or a Pikachu hat there, that's very welcome for getting in the spirit of things. But otherwise, no, not so much. All right, well, one of the big draws at Comic-Con are the panels. And this is when filmmakers and stars they unveil the previews for the upcoming projects. Let's talk about one of them. This is the upcoming rings of power series on Amazon Prime. Here's part of the trailer. It is over. You have not seen what I've seen. I have seen my share. You have not seen. What I have seen. Drama, that's based on The Lord of the Rings series. It's got the elves and the dwarves in the hobbits and the big battles tell us more about it. Yeah, I mean, as a big J.R.R. Tolkien fan, I'm excited that there's another big mainstream project, I believe, the most expensive film production in history, it seems that because of the prominence of Peter Jackson's film trilogy, which one, of course, a bunch of Academy Awards and dominated the box office that enthusiasm for Tolkien hasn't really waned, and I think that this TV show is sort of an example of that, although it should be noted. It's not affiliated really in any way with Peter Jackson's movie trilogies. And is instead based on several of the prequels to the Fellowship of the Ring and The Hobbit, a lot of Tolkien's earlier works are being adapted and I believe with the blessing of Tolkien's estate. So without Peter Jackson involved, we'll see if this one is quite good. Now, I'd also seems like one of the most anticipated panels will be with Marvel Studios. We might get some news about the Black Panther sequel. Is that right? Correct. And in fact, it was in 2018 that the first Black Panther film screened the first ever footage for an audience. And that really kind of kicked off enthusiasm for that first film. And yeah, the next big Marvel Studios feature film will be the second Black Panther film. And I got to say, there's just a lot of confusion and I guess excitement, but also kind of tinged with sadness about the passing of the late actor Chadwick Boseman, who played T'Challa, Black Panther, that sort of leaves it up for grabs as to how they take the franchise into any which direction, presumably it's this weekend here at Comic-Con that possibly with cast members or the filmmakers here telling us what's going on that we get a sense of marvel's next big hit. Another panel

Last week she talked about how her brother's life was changed by being in prison. Season one premiered a year ago, season two is in progress. Before pause, Sam Jay was a writer on Saturday Night Live, where her sketches included black jeopardy, including the sketches with Chadwick Boseman and his Black Panther role as T'Challa, and Eddie Murphy as his character, velvet Jones. And i think a lot of people were hoping it was gonna be chadwick boseman but it ended up being anthony hopkins and he was not there. He was asleep. Apparently and then joaquin phoenix walked off stage and that was the end of the show. And so i think a lot of people were not only pissed that chadwick boseman did not get which his family has already said has come out and said we don't feel snubbed but a lot of people were upset about that and also it ended on such a low note.

It made even more sense when we started to play the scenes because it was clearly An instance they were instances of our going back in time, as you said, and remembering and recalling Norm, played by Chadwick Boseman. We calling him from our present themselves. So it made a brilliant kind of sense. That We did that. Even though I think the genesis for that idea was budgetary, and it made the scenes that much more immediate. And, um in emotionally sharp. And dynamic and again. I was not thinking about that when we were actually making the work. But in Watching the film won in watching the work and two and hearing the responses from audiences and how that's impacted audiences. Um, has confirmed from me and affirmed for me. It was the right direction to go in. It just made sense both in the reading. The script and certainly in the playing the scenes. That's Delroy Lindo. He's been acting for more than five decades to five. Bloods was recently nominated for outstanding.

"Of New York City. Glenn Berman and Michael Riedel wants one WR Well nomination season. We have the Golden Globes out earlier this week, and then we have the SAG Awards Screen Actors Guild Awards. Gonna be kind of a strange season for the nomination because I don't know what the show's gonna look like. Certainly no red carpets or anything like that. Yes, there will be virtual, But sag nominations made a little more sense to letting me than the Golden Globes did, But here to sort it all out for us is Joe Newmark WR movie movie minute. Good Morning, Joe. How are you? Morning, guys? Yeah, it is going to be a weird your first ball. Of course. Everything is gonna be virtual. For the most part. We still don't know what the Oscar is gonna be like. But the Golden Globes gonna be doing it where Amy Poehler's in New York, I think and Tina Fey's in L. A. So they'll be sort of zooming back and forth. Or maybe cameras, you know, or cell phones that on the potential winners, and so if they win, it might be, you know, accepting live kind of thing. It's just a quick note. I think it's going to be interesting this year because it's gonna be almost a little bit like the year that the Oscars celebrated indie films. Remember that back in 1996 when it was movies like Shine and Fargo When things like that, that sort of got a lot of attention and Billy Crystal famously said, You know who are all you people because they weren't Hollywood royalty on. I think it's gonna be a little of that this year. Because all of these things you know we'll have streamed very few of them if any premiered in theaters on so right saying makes a lot more sense and Golden Globes, of course, But you know, that's like 95 foreign journalists voting for those things. Where is the Screen Actors Guild is from people in the industry. And so that makes a lot of sense. So let's just jump into that. You know, I think that the the the Sehgal Wars has got a good sense of what what people really saw and what they liked, And obviously there's a There's a sense of the Golden Globes kind of lost. You know, the nominee a lot of black lead films. In fact, none of them the five blood did not get nominated. Where is it did at the at the SAG Awards? And ah and Marines. Black bottom came out. Really, You know, strong on top. Chadwick Boseman got nominated for best actor posthumously. Obviously, he also has nominated best supporting role 45 blood, So it's It's gonna be an interesting sort of here. What did you guys think? Is you read those? Those SAG awards? What jumped out at you? Well, I think it was so different the job than the Golden Globes because the Golden Globes was lily white and of the five nominees for best film at the SAG Awards for them. Well, at least three of them were minority and the fourth one involves the Korean story. So it was. It was very diverse. That's right. That's right. In fact, four out of five the only one that's not in the trial the Chicago seven, which is a great film at night, and that's also another thing, which was kind of Netflix has gotten, you know a really big boost this year. This may be the year that they end up winning an Oscar after a couple of Europe strong years because all we're looking at the SAG awards and looking even at Golden Globes. You've got a lot there. But right for the five Bloods, Marini's black bottom all great choices. Minori is really strong through the people that movie that people may not know about minorities. They're really nice films A really strong Minori is about a Korean family that's living in Arkansas. They're immigrants to Arkansas and trying to fit into the community, and the father is played by a terrific actor named Steven Yeun that people may know from the walking dead. And the grandmother who's in there who I think is nominated, actually for AH, Sag Award for best Supporting actress is really fun. She's a She's sort of this live wire. She's really Sparky, this old woman who's kind of always giving, you know kind of inappropriate advice in some ways, and it's really kind of a fun a fun character. It zah fish out of water movie, which is really, you know, obviously, it's always a popular thing, but it's really interesting. It's interesting about how how different cultures kind of assimilated into really nice. A nice drama One night in Miami is also another one that people have been talking about it got nominated at at the SAG Awards is directed by the actress Regina King, who got a NASCAR for a fields. We could talk and not watchman and a few other things, and that's based on a place about a night in 1964 that Muhammed Ali, then cold caches. Play, of course, uh, Sam Cooke, Malcolm X. And, uh, and the football players seem to be actor Jim Brown get together in a in a hotel room with a sort of celebrate. Uh, cash is Clay's win over Sonny Liston, and it's a great drum. It's really terrific. Leslie Odom, who was in Hamilton, uh, got nominated for best supporting actor for ladies. He is It's really a terrific felon that's nominated for best best drama. A to the organ. I'm fumbling story at the SAG Awards. Yeah, these are all really terrific movie that people just seek out. You know, I was kind of sad that my friend Franklin Jello was overlooked at the Golden Globes. I thought he would have been perfect nominee for a supporting actor to move because he's so good and the evil judge in the trial, the Chicago seven Totally agree. And Eddie Redmayne would've been great in there, too. But I actually thought Franklin Jell O would have been really a terrific choice. Sasha Baron Cohen. What a year for him. Obviously, the you getting supporting actor nomination for trial in Chicago seven for playing Abbie Hoffman. But then Bora and had a really strong are really strong, showing its best picture, musical or comedy. It's in there. Maria Batalova, who's hilarious, and it is in there is best actress. You know, it's really an interesting year. Because a lot of these movies are the movies. You wouldn't expect it to get nominated things like Palm Springs, even which is terrific. The sound of metal actor named Riz Ahmed, who's terrific, and there is best actor in a drama You Place a heavy metal drummer who's going deaf, and that's a really, really strong movie because it really kind.

"78th annual Golden Globe Awards were the nominees were announced yesterday. For the show That's airing on the 28th of this month with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co hosting for the fourth time. I didn't notice this yesterday, but There were some snubs. Always snubs. There were some snap it up, Dubs Love is dead to me was shut out. Completely. I wasn't surprised by that. I get So I wasn't surprised because I remember. I feel like you guys weren't loving it. I feel like I liked the second season more. Then most people did. But eh, so I'm not. I'm not surprised because I didn't feel like it had the same critical acclaim that season. One did when it felt very unexpected, But I guess I would be surprised just because you think of the total Number of releases this year, which didn't seem like a ton. I don't know. I just feel like this Christina Applegate, especially and Linda Cardellini. They're just So good. There's like so much great. So many great performances out there. I get it if they were nominated in the first season, it's like, OK, we already did you let's move on to the next person Ma Rainey's black bottom, which I just watched last weekend. Did not get a best picture nomination. But Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis did get acting nods. I think that's accurate. Sure it was You know, I know it was. I believe it was a play, right? Yes, And it felt like you were watching a play. It felt very Like what? That's a weird thing to happen. But if you're watching a play, you kind of have a different suspension of disbelief. Sure, oftentimes than you do in the, you know a movie. So, but Violet Davis outstanding. Chadwick Boseman. They did a dedication to him. Also at the end of that movie, by the way,

"Understand you. I laughed so hard. This one in case he happened to be home when they were reading it was Sarah Jessica Parker and tragic P. Henson. Reading from their houses on two different codes. Coast SGP started first on NBC on the Today show and Keys he goes. What the hell? Why she reading a scroll paper? She was reading from something that was like double what An 8.5 by 11 was long way across, holding it like a scroll. And, you know, she's blind. She doesn't want to wear glasses to wear glasses. And these were printed. Yeah, really big for her. So I was like, good observation, Casey. But after And we're going to go into a little bit more in depth a little bit later but deep Carder, who is the today sure he does a lot of movie and TV reviews, and he always gives the 411 his breakdown on the Golden Globe globes like the snubs. Surprises. And what were the big big surprises there? We were there any that you thought you'd see on the list that didn't make it? Honestly, there's a movie called the Five Bloods. I'm drowning out like that did extremely well on Netflix this summer, and I was expand. Love the movie, and I was expecting some big nominations there. But the film was not nominated, and neither was Delroy Lindo, who does such a fantastic job of the movie and said the nominees for best actor who are all fantastic Riz Ahmed for my favorite movie of the year Sound of metal that's on Amazon right now. Chadwick Boseman, a posthumous nomination for Ma Rainey's Black bottom, Anthony Napkins for the father of movie that hasn't been released. Yet. Movie can come out before the end of February and be eligible for the Golden Globes. So people are wondering what is this? Anthony Hopkins will be the father. It's a wonderful movie, where he plays a man suffering from dementia, and it's a wonderful performance. But it hasn't really been Sena Gary Oldman for make and then another movie that hasn't been released, called the Mauritanian. And that was the fifth nominee for best actor Tahar Rahim, a newcomer, and he acts opposite Jodie Foster in this movie plays a prisoner of quantum Mo Bay. So that's the performance to look out for, but he really kind of got that spot over. Don't worry Lindo. There you go. And of course, you know, people were like, also like with the five bloods. They're like the Golden Globes. They What do they not like? Spike Lee? Both of his kids, or Mr and Mrs Golden Globe, the army anywhere this year. Okay, Here's another one. Are you surprised that Bridget and didn't get nominated? Very much. So that was one that I thought was a sure thing, especially because the golden gloves really do like to anoint. You know the hot show the moment I think they did that with, you know the Queen's gambit, and I'm sure that that was nominated for best limited Syria's. That's a category that hasn't been announced yet. But instead of Richardson. They went with the crown Lovecraft country on HBO, the man DeLorean, Ozark and then ratchet. So I think that was a bit of a surprise to see to see it in their obviously, we need to Sarah Paulson would get nominated for best actress in a a serious but to have the show in there, too. I think that was a bit of a surprise. I couldn't They leave Richard 10 get didn't get any ratchet. Got the spot. First of all, it's Zaha Limited. Done. Yeah, a limit. Even I couldn't believe it. And I also was surprised. This is us Get anything There's no like now That was the big snub. That was TV network TV got like nothing. Nothing. Netflix. Netflix is smoking their big cigar crossing their feet. Yes, they're saying, who's got the B D Today? Hollywood? Yeah, let's hear one more. Okay? I think this is about your guy Kevin Costner. That was surprising to see anything from Yellowstone. The Kevin Costner series. You know, both Kelly Riley, who plays Beth and Cole Hauser's Rip Wheeler. I thought those were just two standout performances. Would you put that on the snubs list? I would, and I do think that Yellowstone, which is a very popular show, I think has a decent shot to get nominations from the SAG Awards, which has a much larger voting body than the Golden Wells, which is only about 90 journalist. So I think sometimes the kind of less sexy shows that get overlooked by the Golden Globes can come back in a big way with some other award shows. Emily in Paris made the list Did that surprise you in the undoing like it seems it got a ton of things right? I got like three or four nominations. Yeah, I'm trying to train myself to say Emily and Parry like they like they crimes that that was a little bit of a surprise showing there. But as far as the undoing Nicole Kidman is an absolute favorite of the Golden Globes as she should be, because she does amazing work whenever she does anything. I loved the undoing, and I knew that was going to be a big player. But what you're seeing this year is that the limited Series categories are just as exciting as the typical drama series are comedies. Here Those series are the ones that are kind of the water cooler. If you could have a water cooler moment on zoo that those kind of the shows that everyone seems to be talking about that Queen's gambit. And it's seriously there everything nothing is on network. No, I know there really isn't And it is interesting what he said about the limited Syriza's and the lead actor categories and teach me all the good roles seemed to have been in the limited. Syriza's right. And I thought, you know, Hugh Grant was absolutely He was hands down the best part of the undoing right for me, and I was glad if there have to nominate the crown again, you know, is glad that the guy who played Prince Charles was in there, But you're right. I mean, it's always kind of been a hitter miss with, um The Golden Globes. I mean, even James Corden getting a nod for prom, and people said he was so so and that movie even got a nod. But that is exactly the kind of movie that the Golden Globes yet they snub. Sophia Loren. He was absolutely terrific in this movie that where she plays and older, retired prostitute who watches the Children of other prostitutes, and she's just kind of got a world weariness. But it's It's amazing. She's amazing in and it was really a Great movie, So Yeah, I was glad Lovecraft got nominee. But Bridger 10. What a huge what A huge e thought to ratchet is the one that came in their things. But the other one that we were excited about Is that Kelly Kelly Kill Cho so great got nominated for best performance. That's gonna be a tough category. Best performance by an actress in a television series, musical or comedy. Give it to me, Lily Collins. Family and Perry. No, she's not going on. She was delightful, though, but not gonna Kelly Cocoa? Yes, Flight attendant Elle fanning the great which none of us watch, But everyone said it was great. I tried to watch it once. Okay? We got to give it another try. I guess. Jane Levee for is always extraordinary playlists, and she's darling and then Catherine O'Hara for poops freak. E.

"To face and deal with the experiences we all shared together. Here's Rebecca Givens. And how Runkle on 95.5, WSB. Good evening. This is how our uncle and I'm here with my co host. Little Rebecca. Hello, Hal. In a very, very happy, belated birthday. Thank you. Thank you. Yesterday was my birthday, and it's the last one I'm ever going to do. No, just the last one in our forties, the last one Before I hit the big 50 and so It's perfect. When you have a birthday as you get older. You think about things you've lost. I'll talk some about some reflections I had yesterday. But that is our theme for the evening. This is the mindset shift where we help you. Look at how you see things because When we are able to take a step back, pause and think through. How am I looking at the situation and is the way I'm looking at it actually helping it. Uh, make it worse, right? Yes. So tonight, as you said, we want to talk about loss and how to grieve. We know that the world is changing. That's why we're here on the air to talk about the different things that connect this like the global pandemic, racial unrest, elections all those things, but we want to spin it make a mindset shift. Today. We want to hear from you. How if you are grieving if you're going through a loss, how do you grief? 40487207 50. What have you lost so much We've talked about 2020 is this incredible, difficult year of division. And certainly it has been When we talk about division that gets us riled up. I think a more prominent theme is what have we lost? We've lost so many people. We just went through the anniversary of losing Kobe Bryant and his daughter last week. We've lost so many securities things we thought we could depend upon We've lost so much freedom because of the pandemic. We've lost health. We've lost people who have lost relationships. We've lost social connections. Exactly. We've actually had people who actually died. Over and over. It seemed like it was taking so many people, you know, I think maybe Chadwick Boseman was the saddest because he was only 43. We never knew he was sick. And while he's making these amazing marvel movies What have you lost? And how do you work through that loss? Essentially, we live in a time where Things are so constantly promoted as better. Everything is better. Technology is making everything better and It's sometimes shocks us. When life still happens when it doesn't work out the way we thought it would, because we were promised it would buy all the advertising that we followed, and we end up with not knowing how to process through loss after loss after loss. Especially because we don't have the kinds of rituals that human beings have done a communal rituals that they've done throughout the centuries. And it leaves us instead of sharing the loss with our community. We just internalized the loss. Embarrass ourselves and finders tells the press without even knowing why, right It's like I was sharing with you. How important physical touch is positive physical touch how much we needed, how? In our counseling world in our profession we up Reinforce the importance of at least eight positive touches a day and feet eight. And if you live alone, or if you're in a family, it's a little bit toxic. Or if you just don't hug in your family. You actually missed missing something that's almost like a vitamin A nourishment to it is. I had a conversation. My mother. She lives in Texas, and she's getting the second round of the vaccine next week. And what do the main thing she's looking forward to? Was hugging her grandkids, which she hasn't done since March. Exactly exactly loss. That's definitely the theme of tonight and what we're talking about, and we wanted to hear from you at 448720750 just about how you cope with loss. And maybe at towards the end of the show, or even as we move forward, we're gonna give you some skills on how to Cope with any type of loss, right? So yesterday was my birthday and I wasn't really struck by the whole I'm about to turn 50 thing. I'm actually looking forward to the 50. Because I've got this great trip planned as a celebration. That's next year. Next year. Yes. So I turned 49 yesterday, but I experienced loss because it was not the greatest birthday of my life. My wife. Unfortunately, there's an illness in her side of the family, and she needed to leave. So she had to leave the morning of my birthday and go to another state, and I absolutely supported that. I think it's the right thing to do. But you want to spend your birthday with your significant other And this is the most important person my life, right? So that was then I went to go and say, all right, I'm I play golf and I love golf. So Go to play. But unfortunately I've had three back surgeries and three hip surgeries and a knee surgery and I just re ruptured three disks back in November and I shouldn't be playing and you still want to play. I still win and played because it's an addiction. And but I couldn't I had to stop after eight holes. That is a loss that we do not. I don't think talk enough about is when your health is compromised the things that you lose along the way right from it. All our health. That's definitely an area that is, um That we often don't pay attention. Like you said that we don't grieve. But some people think Oh, you know, maybe they can't walk or maybe they've lost their vision. But we're talking about those subtle things like Back having an injury. I have an ovary that needs to be looked at in an upcoming surgery. And so those things are uncomfortable, and I'm losing something, you know? And so we don't talk about that Assawoman and I don't mind saying this. I had a historic to me last year and I lost some organs that were of a woman. You know, I've grieved that. Yes. So the change in our health the change. Um the changes that were going through go grating older with how I just had a birthday 49. The milestone is next year. Sometimes people grieve getting older. I'm looking forward to it. Yes, yeah, Forties forties is a tough decades. I'll be glad to leave it behind. And we're gonna talk to Steven, Who's talking about losing his mother? Hey, Stephen, Welcome to the program. Yeah. Hey there and happy late birthday. Thank you so much. Yeah, sure. Um, so this past it was actually I guess this past last summer, my mom passed away. And Um, I always thought that losing a parent That I would be a complete basket case that I would lose my mind that BIA basically be a hot mess, and when she died, you know, Of course, there's a lot of love a lot of tears and You know, being with family and in mourning, but For some reason. I'm not the mess that I thought I was gonna be, Um, you know, I love loved her to death. I've you know, Mom and I were very close. I think in the movie psycho, didn't you say Ah, boy's best friend is his mother on? Yes, unfortunately, E. I think that was like, But anyway, um But for some reason, I've actually been filled more with peace. In Greek That's an interesting time. I'm glad you brought that up. Yeah. You finish what you're gonna say. I'm just going to say that I wonder if like A big time of grief is in the future. Like, um I gonna one day. Just be this hot mess that I thought I was going to be by now or or what? I love the call. Thank you very much. And what's he's expressing? Is this weird conflict? A lot of times we have when we think we're supposed to feel a certain way and we encounter a loss. Well, I can't relate to Stephen because I lost my mom in 2014 to cancer. So this year will be seven years without my mother without seeing my mother. And I think I felt like Stephen did where it's almost had to be the one to do the funeral and to do the arrangements and the feeling's right. It was a CEO like so it's like sometimes we can wear mass often times We talked about this and negative thing. And I'm not talking about the mask about Colbert. But I'm just talking about that invisible face that we put on. To cope with different things, and I believe in the mass called the Avoidance Mass. It's sometimes we can. I don't have time to grieve and cry and be all broken because I need to do what I need to do and that it's OK. But there does come a time when you have to stop and sort of resolve or make peace with those feelings, which is what shame would say..
