It is 5 19 on Wall Street Life from the Bloomberg Interactive broker Studios. This is Bloomberg Daybreak. The Corona virus surge around the world now has Europe's two biggest economies, imposing the kinds of restrictions on their citizens that they haven't seen since early in the pandemic. For more. We're joined from Berlin by Bloomberg's Chad Thomas. Good morning, Chad tell us more about the restrictions that are coming in Germany and France. Yeah. Good morning, Nathan. So, these restrictions now last night in Germany by Chancellor Angela Merkel and in France by President Macron. The restrictions are quite similar in the two countries. Basically, they're going to close down the restaurants and bars there. Also closing a number of sort of leisure activity type places. Think Concert called Theatres. Jim's Place is essentially where people would gather and be mingling with one another. Their goal is to try and tamp down. Spread Both countries reporting record cases in the last couple of days and and they're trying to do this while at the same time keeping the economy open. They're not closing down schools at this point. So we'll be waiting to see how this unfolds from here. Both leaders saying that they will reassess in two weeks time where they're at and decide then whether they need to enact for the measures. So besides the school staying open, how do these lockdowns compared to what Europe saw in the spring? It sounds as though it's just about as stringent as it was early in the pandemic. It is just about as strange and I think one of the main difference is that some AA few more shops there going to be allowed to stay open and the In the beginning of the pandemic. Webb was really only grocery stores that were open. Ah, across Europe and things like factories are still going to be producing good. People are allowed to go into offices if you're an office worker, although Everyone is encouraged to work from home if they can, so they basically appealing to people. You have a setup at home. Stay there, but you can go into the office. That does sound as though they're trying to strike a balance to some extent, But obviously they're trying to avoid the kind of economic hit that we saw in the spring. What's the potential economic impact of the kinds of restrictions? That are being put into place here on restaurants on bars, those kinds of businesses Well, that's exactly exactly the point. They are trying to thread this needle here because of the huge economic it that Germany and France and quite frankly, every country took a TTE beginning of the pandemic when they had these severe shutdown. Interestingly enough, Germany, for example, said yesterday that they were going to make another €10 billion available specifically. Only to help these businesses that are being told that they have to shut down the bars and restaurants. For example, that ate is just for the month of November. Right now it's a one month shut down. That they're looking at will be, of course, was leaning out of the year. What would be President Christine? The guard has to stand this. Later today when they have the monetary policy meeting. When you look at the chart of how the case counts are unfolding in Europe, Obviously the curve is certainly going in the wrong direction here. What's the impact on the health system right now? Our hospitals in Germany and France Starting to get overloaded in the similar way that we saw in the spring. That's a really good point, because as the cases started to go up, sort of in the early fall, you didn't see a lot of hospitalizations or people who are in intensive care. And that is now changing, and both Merkel and macron sounding alarm yesterday that the health systems are beginning to be overloaded and that Cone basically saying that without Strict measures in plants that they would not be able to handle the number of people coming into intensive care situations within a couple of weeks time, So it is really starting to creep up in your starting to see more infections and people over the age of 60. Of course, these are Individuals are much higher risk of contracting a very serious case of the virus over the summer and sort of early father case roads were primarily in younger people. Not so you didn't see many hospitalizations. Bloomberg's Chad Thomas, with us from Berlin this morning as a month long locked down on non essential businesses is about to go into effect in Germany and France and again is a Chad mentioned. We're certainly looking forward to hearing what President Christine Lagarde has to say when it comes to monetary support. In the midst of this next wave of the current virus pandemic in Europe, Chad thanks again for being with us this morning on Bloomberg Daybreak here in the U. S futures are pointing to a higher open after yesterday's steep declines as MP futures are up 31 points. Dow futures ahead by 203 NASDAQ futures again of 140.

"The wrestling with altitude podcast. I am your host Mr Fourth row and on the a phone call right now I have two representatives of one of the newest promotions here in the Colorado area and that's a redemption championship wrestling and I have <hes> Jason and James <hes> I'm sorry what was your last name again. Dribble dribble okay all right and <hes> they're going to talk to us about the Russian everything so gentlemen how you guys doing good. We're good all right all right so <hes> I I won't maybe necessarily direct questions to anyone in particular as we're introducing the promotion but <hes> tell us about <hes> R C W how did it get started. Let the four James Well. I actually started professional wrestling back in nineteen eighty nine. I've been doing it a little over thirty years. The day Jason is my youngest cousin and he just flipped out when he saw me do this stuff and skip forward to a few years later <hes> last summer my we we've done a few shows for some other promotions. I trained both Jason and my brother and my brother and I and Jason got together and we decided to kick off a promotion of our own to kind of be his Colorado Springs had it but nobody really came down to the southeast planes so we decided ready to focus on that area and see what we can do. Oh very cool and tell the listeners of where our C._W.. Is based out of just in case. They're not familiar exactly with the Colorado geography. Actually we're based the three areas Okay Canyon City Colorado Fowler Colorado in Las Animas Colorado. Okay all three of us live <hes> Jason Lives in Kenya and I live in Fowler and my brother Martin lives in Los Angeles us in that way we can kind of encompass and we have a representative all up and down the Arkansas Valley here. Oh very very cool all right so so just to fill in the listeners of that area is in they're talking about the the southern part of Colorado. The southern plains like they were saying so <hes> yeah so <hes> yeah and I'm familiar with the area personally because <hes> <hes> my <hes> Dad and his <hes> <hes> my uncles and sister they grew up in Texas creek which is fairly close to Canyon city yeah yeah exactly so very cool all right <hes> so <hes> <hes> so you guys decided that you wanted to start to promotion just because <hes> you know just to get a little bit of extra you know <hes> shows. They're going you know from the Colorado Springs area to get a lot of <hes> people travel from the springs and even further to come to the shows well. We've had people from all over the state of Colorado when we worked for another promotion. Come down here for these shows okay. This will actually be our. <unk> are able twenty-seventh will actually be our first show as redemption championship wrestling so we're hoping to get people from all over the state come in and give us a hand with <hes> making some money for the Special Education Department in Kenya City okay so this is a benefit show well. Yes Oh very cool. <hes> what made you choose <hes> that <hes> charity for for this well first off the school teachers always need help. They always spend spend their money. <hes> just a great opportunity to help out any school first off and second off the Special Education Department is just as how can I put this. It's really good to help out people people that are in need and can not do it all themselves so the Special Education Department I was actually approached by one of the school employees and that's when I signed to talk to James and Martin about dumb before with it. Oh very cool okay all right I was yeah and I I totally agree. I we always hear stories about teachers are not paid enough and they have to spend their own money for <hes> supplies and etc so and I would assume special education even gets a <hes> further <hes> whatever you WANNA call it <hes> I don't want to call it neglect but doesn't get as much attention as even this the regular <hes> program exactly and this is just once a week and help out very cool awry and is this going to be <hes> mainly geared to the special education <hes> in that area the Canyon City the <hes> Los Angeles area well this this particular GonNa geared more for Canyon City right there. Okay we have fifteen. We have another show setup and we're actually going to be donating to the after school program up there for their <hes> community center. Oh cool so <hes> so this is going to be a ongoing thing. The shows are always going to have a a benefit charity as much as we can. <hes> we went onto a few sold shows and stuff like that to help us keep the business alive and keep it going but any to give back to communities in need. We're GONNA we're take a look at that and see if we can't make that a at least a top priority whether they're actually a sponsored charity or whether we just make a donation that night after the show we just don't need it to school. What school was let James <hes> donate to my to the dance class school or something what was I can't remember the name of it right so yeah yeah it was? It's one of the things where redemption championship wrestling if we can help out in any way we're we're going to do it. We're always out there trying to put ourselves out there and not even if it involves a wrestling show but volunteering and doing things like that Oh cool okay cool. We'll volunteering is a kind of one of my things in my heart to do a lot for the American Diabetes Association and things like that so yeah cool very cool. I'm I'm proud of that cool all right <hes> so <hes> you had mentioned <hes> James You mentioned that <hes> you guys had done other <hes> worked for of doing other promotions as well and I'm assuming that those promotions are pretty much gone by the wayside. A lot of them have been gone out of business. I mean I I started this business back. In one thousand nine hundred eighty nine restrained by <hes> an organization Outta Lamar Colorado called superstars professional wrestling and then I've done some work for choice to eighth professional wrestling's since I've been all over the United States doing this. I actively retired in two thousand until they they Kinda Doug me out of mothballs to come out and do a charity show there once what's the wrestling ailing bug bitney again. It's kind of hard to stop right yeah cool so let's see here. I was going to ask you guys so <hes>. Speaking of that <hes> what kind of <hes> do you guys have a lot of local talented. You get a lot of talent from <hes> other places in Colorado and what about the United States in the world what what kind of talent comes in and Russell's for our C._W.. So hello earth going we have we have talent from we have local talent Air Colorado but we also have guys from Texas a really good guys names Chad Thomas. He's GonNa Russell actually outlaw James Girl there. We also have guys coming from Oklahoma. We'll we'll take we want everybody to strive to the best their ability and if we're able to get a man what we'll give them in where we can get him in whether it's from Colorado Oklahoma Oga Texas this New Mexico. We're trying to focus on the guys here. Colorado 'cause plenty of great talent appear <hes> just the shows are starting to get bigger as we go but this car right here we do got Colorado Oklahoma and we got on Texas cool all right so what so what <hes> what names we got <hes> coming in for the for this show on the twenty seven well <hes> we have from Oklahoma. We actually have a tag team called the new and improved express New York's press my bad apologize. They're facing Mark Justice in Tyler. Watch Keke match for the A C W tag titles which were to see how that goes because I'm very interested in seeing how those two teams go as far as I know they're both father and son and father and son. Oh yeah so that should be interesting in itself. We have Dr Kobe Black. He's he's from Oklahoma. There's Jomon name Prince Molly. I'm not exactly sure exactly where he's from so loans out of my hands I have no clue we just recently had a gentleman that was on your Cherry Tara a wish him and his family best ask look so and then like <hes>. We got guy from PLO what's <hes> K._T.. From cars brings a zillow from Pueblo <hes> myself and Canyon <hes> beanie from Las Animas Gentleman Myers extreme these from Las Animas as well <hes> some matches we have. We have a tables match with I'm involved in myself which has to be interesting dressing and never been in that he was masters should be very interesting for that match and then I've got some with Chad Thomas to to take care of this time around and when I wrestled each other in rocky Ford Colorado and that kind of turn into a slobber knocker he broke my ribs and several other things so when you come out to the show here in Canyon city don't expect a wrestling match between us to that's going to be more of a fight. Oh very cool very cool awesome. Yes right yeah well. I saw <hes> I've seen some of these names that you mentioned in <hes> <hes> C._S.. W of course as well and I've I think I've seen you Jason. They're promoting the shows as well so that's that's. That's very cool <hes> so it is it <hes> so how's that been <hes> in doing. You guys getting really good partnership there with <hes> C._S.. W and <HES> <HES> do you partner with the Iron Hills championship wrestling as well. Oh yes W an iron hills. They kinda rolled out the red carpet for us. When we told we were going to <hes> starting on promotion they have done nothing but bend over backwards to help us and we really appreciate everything that they've done for us? <hes> big guns Justin Andrew several others that they have just been more than willing to you know <hes> help us get acquainted with Colorado talent and just basically helped us nonstop. Get this thing up off the ground you know and <hes> we're trying our best to to Kinda. Give back to those guys and help them out as much as we can to. <hes> we're not gonNA just be a wrestling promotion. We're kind of a one stop shop. We build ring equipment and everything else so. So we've been helping them get some of their stuff but together. It's it's been a very cooperating <hes> experiences time around so yeah our hats off to see us w iron hills and all the Colorado promotions. Oh that's where I'll see the US goes also where we found Bruce Rogers which is going to be here Canyon City as well. Oh all right. He's here too. He's going to be in our CIMMAMON. advant actually now I don't know if you've seen any of the pictures on facebook or <hes> the posters but he's in our cinema one of my main event for the heritage championship of the B._B._C. WS <hes> which is a triple threat match and he idem Dr Code Black have some unfinished business as well not quite like outlaws and Chad compasses now what they still have a little unfinished business to take out so that should be interesting to in Bruce Rogers such A._M...

"The stock six hundred down by one tenth of a percent this morning so losses across certainly the major indexes in Europe a little bit more robust performance coming through from the periphery the ibex down by just two tenths of a percent. The footsie may actually eking out some gains over in Italy. Elsewhere, the major markets are in negative territory down by three tenths of one percent on the fifty one hundred and the carols and down by four tenths of a percent on the Xetra. Dax some individual stock moves are of interest bags under pressure today. We had guidance lower from BNP parabas down by one point one percents. The concept is of interest. We'll talk about that shortly down by two point three percent for dine LA this hour. We've also had some gloomy news from some suppliers. So the context as well. I n g giving us a different picture for the banks up by four point four percent this morning as C Y B, a challenge a Bank in the UK. By thirteen point three percents off to their earnings the beer business doing well. Over at calls backed up by three point six percent and CR h in the construction sector in Ireland by three point seven percent as an activist investor takes a stake basil look at some of the stocks individual stocks on the move the macro picture little muted waiting for guidance perhaps little coming from the state of the union. The dollar index is stronger by one tenth of a percent. The euro a little weaker down one tenth of a percent after some weeks out of Germany. That's a look at the data. Then matt. All right. Thanks very much for that, Anna. Now, let's get to that car story as you had mentioned dime. Lower. Now expects earnings to bounce back this year. The automaker says group earnings before interest and taxes will rise slightly. That's after profits slumped in twenty eighteen amid the US China trade spat production bottlenecks here in Europe. And surging expenses for more. We're joined by Bloomberg's German bureau chief Chad Thomas, so talk to us. I chat about the year. That was why such a disappointment in two thousand eighteen twenty eighteen was a difficult year for the entire automobile industry, as you well know, Matt dime layer, of course, had two profit warnings. They were really stung by the trade spats going on and ultimately while they were able to increase their deliveries in their revenue if you look at the automobile aspect of their their business, the the main business, obviously, they weren't able to increase. The prophet there. Which means of course, that they weren't able to charge as much for their cars. So they came out of a very difficult twenty eighteen forecasting for this year a slight increase, but you know, that's pretty cautious. When you think about the fact that there was a big profit drop last year. Yes. And this is the last time that will see numbers coming from DC. He's been such a figure on the autos stage, hasn't he Chad? This must come as something of a big event. I suppose his departure from from that stage. Yeah. Well, that departure is happening as we speak. He's became institute got to press into investors, and they are really having a big event around that today. Of course, he's going to step away and hand over the reins a little bit later this spring. The other thing that remember is he isn't going too far into German fashion in about a year from now he's going to take over as supervisory board chairman, so he'll be out of the spotlight for a year, or so, but will expect him to be back and weighing in on what's having a Daimler when he returns as the head of the supervisory board Ola calumnious is going to of course, takeover from a AM G fame. He's got kind of a clean slate. He can put hopefully the diesel issues behind there will be some lingering lawsuits, but how does Donald look positioned for the future of of automotive here in Germany is everybody seems to be investing more money into into electric cars. Yeah, in that was part of the discussion that we've been hearing Matt out of the annual press conference today. The fact that diner is going to cut back on spending. They're trying to rein in costs in parts. So that they have more money to invest into electric cars into autonomous driving in that really is the future and knows that in the. That will be clearly a key focus for the new CEO when he takes over. What about the need for cooperation as we see the the Nissan Renault questions around the alliance and how it will weather the current storm. And how about cooperation for European comic is how much she's not managing cushion them from the from the threats such as the US China trade trade spots and the need to invest in new diesel tank new new post diesel technologies. Well, and I think that that these cooperation agreements that you're seeing across the industry is really the future. Everyone knows that they have to plow in literally billions of dollars into these new technologies, and they basically they can't go it alone a dime. Of course, as you say is working with Renault and Nissan how that's going to play out. Now, given the departure of Carlos gone remains to be seen. There's also been some discussion happening here in Germany weather. Some of the car makers here would team up there. And what that might look like Mercedes and BMW potential. Old rivals getting together to to do some projects. So expect to see more of that. As we move forward doing like car-sharing projects doing some. Interesting. Sir taxi services. What about China though, Donald talking at the conference about Geely? Are they going to be doing more in China? It was a tough spot for them in two thousand eighteen will they be able to boost sales there. Well, that's the million dollar question. We hear that dime layer is looking potentially boosting their their stake in their joint venture in China. Although we also hear that they want to remain in partnership. They think that that's important to have that that partner in the market to help them. But how China's shakes out for them. And for others remains to be seen in. Of course. It's such a critical market for dime. Diner for all of the German luxury car makers, it's really China and US as their main big markets chat. Thank you very much. Bloomberg's Germany bureau chief chant Thomas joining us with the fascinating and fast evolving story around the carmakers. Let's get the world national news now for that we go to Markus Karlsson, Markus. Thanks very much. Matt starting with this. "Chad thomas chat what do you expect from tomorrow's summit first off what what do you think the results are going to be well matt we def only will cease some sort of an agreement from the summit tomorrow no one can afford to come out of this summit and say we didn't do something here so you you have industry in the one one side on the one hand under pressure and eating to show that they're willing to make changes though what what we're hearing from sources that industry is even willing to consider hardware fixes for a lot of these diesel cars on the road right now you'll remember that they all they proposes seduced software fixes the basically updates in the software on a number of these cars a hardware picks is much more much much more expensive maybe a bigger container to hold the ad blue liquid that a saga it'd be want valerie one option sir or possibly a new exhaust system i mean these things could get costly well one estimate it would be at least two thousand euros per car to do these hardware fixes that are being discussed the software updates there about seventy year old so you see how how that can quickly balloon and even that one thousand per vehicle people say is a conservative estimate but the government also has to show that they are doing something let's not forget where seven weeks away from federal election and chancellor merkel party controls the transport ministry they're the ones who have control over the the regulatory authority ends so they have to be able to show is well that they are taking action they're getting criticized by the social democrats who are members of mexico's government junior coalition party also from the greens that they have a cosy relationship with industry and so they have to be able to show that they will take action as well how many jobs are on the line here how many jobs to these companies account for when it comes to the german economy judge to put that in context in terms of the political risks being run here well folks logging alone employs six hundred thousand people.
