"Beautiful Damn. That's our segue back into the game. I love it. Oh. No here's a here's a segue speaking of studs. Really McGinnis is finally healthy. This is. Part of part of the the Boston Globe article stuff out reading. And it fucking shows he was ever. We had three batted balls. one of them was on fourth down so blue a fourth version. A also had An offensive pass interference called. Like four him like on him. Because, he drop back in coverage and I, think it's like cra better someone like that. Tried to light them up as the gases in the air and got called for an offense. Abaza fairs, which is Great. And then they were trying to block him on a screenplay. And he got up so quickly that as Curtis Martin caught the ball. With me get. This was already tackling him he as it might be. The worst screen ever seen, it was bad. But any also had a sack in this game I think he was the one that sacked. Chad Pennington. I think Pennington was point. By so there was a few sex, but he was. I mean we talked about it a little bit last week to where he was just kind of like. It was like watching Gronk. Play offense was watching McGinnis by defense. He's waiting through people like he's playing with with like kindergarteners, just like walking through and kind of pushing them out of the way. Just, so we can get to the bulk you use unstoppable and he gets my game..

"Then that's kind of how he became a free agent sonic without bins in two thousand when Damon resorted there the quarterback out of Washington, Bernie and right history. But it was a little bit of drama in your being selected by coach wants that as the headquarters for the dolphin back. Then well there was a little bit. You know, I wanted to preseason throughout most of the offseason workouts? I have done well, and I was working with the first team, but it was still an open competition. And then it really wasn't. I was doing sports radio at the time. It was Damon your job it really wants to your credit test them this testimonial. It really wasn't an open competition. It may have been with one set encamp, but the media had team in your as in apparent the media had there. And and Dan Marino was endorsing. Well during that time, you know, they will good friends with teammates from the year before you know, I think throughout the preseason. Not just Marino got hurt and Damon one four and one. Yeah. Yep. And throughout the freezers and early on, you know, I felt like I was clearly a head. And then I went into you know, I it training camp. And and had a hip injury that required surgery. So I was out and I missed three of the first preseason games. So there was a lot of questions now of what was going on. You know, Damon went he played and then solidify himself to become the star. I came back the last game right off the injury. And and to be honest. I didn't have my best game. I was you know, not very sharp. Come back first time. But yeah, I think all the work that led up to that from the all season into the preseason going into that kind of solidified me in there between. Coach ones that decide and then my teammates really pushed for me as well. And the rest was history. I went started for the next five years fantastic. And of course, being a Long Island kid you aspire to be New York Jets quarterback headquartered Becky finally make it to the jets, and I believe two thousand five right? Yes. Correct. And then you the backup for Chad Pennington. Of course, Chad gets hurt. You get your big shot. You step onto the field. What happens? Unfortunately about ten plays later. I got injured. Yeah. I was so ready to coming up here. I was so excited grew in oceanside. I, you know, the jets were right in my backyard. I worked at Hofstra for two years. The jets right across the street for two years during that time. Yeah. I grew up a jets fan Richard Todd Wesley Walker can O'Brien all those guys back in the early in the late seventies early eighties, and you know, the comeback and have the opportunity to take over once. Chad was hurt to to become the starter and possibly solidify myself the next number years. Yeah. I was excited to go away. And I I complete a first down pass on third down as I'm rolling out of the the pocket, and I get tripped up. I mean, the guy just barely hits my shoelace as I'm throwing the football. And I just landed the wrong way like an outfielder diving for a ball with my arm out in front show that was wrong. And then like Brooks Poland became the quarterback Monica's. Chad Pennington eventually went down to Miami. When Bill Parcells got there that he made a win. Like you still the quarterback to win a place as the only other quarterback take out there. I think that's true they lost. But you'll only one the last one to win one that great game on Smith had a big effort that day. I I just know Jay that you had five last season was not great for you to be honest. But yet foreign so seasons where you guys were winning ten games every year. I mean, great defenses Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor. But you will putting up some really good numbers. And I remember when you left I would talk I'm not gonna say their names. But you know, I know some of the guys on those teams, and they would always go to the Jewish thing. And it's when you go to Kapiti his name, for example, Bernie it starts right away Jewish. He's in the national Jewish hall of fame. Use-of-force they make a big deal about that. You never hid the fact that you. Jewish and unlike other players when things weren't going great. They never bring up Christianity. But with you. They did bring up you'll religion. Did you hear some of that stuff? Did you hear after that bother you? I mean from teammates. I never heard okay. Teammate sense and the lack, but you may have they never said it to my face in. And that's you know, the the vast majority of anti-semitism is going to be behind people's backs. They're not afraid to or they're afraid to come up and and show their true colors right in front of you. But you know, I I felt and and you know, when I first got into the league, I went to Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia Eagles Reggie White had just left the eagles. But he had a big impact on that locker room. You know with his background is Janati minister of the fence. You know, Ramlet Cunningham had just been born again Herschel Walker was in that locker room. There were a lot of guys that were pretty hardcore Christians in their and to me what I found. Interesting was a lot of them had a lot of interest in Judaism, really. And you know, they were they were intellectual Christians. What I call it. And they, you know, yes, they did want to push it on some on other people at times. But I think they would truly interested in learning more about you know, they knew I wasn't converting. They knew I wasn't going again. And I had some some interesting conversations with ran the hand Herschel Walker, you know, who really actual guys that really wanted to learn more, and I was really pleased with that. And and enlightened by that. The guys would reach out, and and you know, showing interest that way, you don't feel like any of that stuff. Anti-semitism Jew hating, whatever hurt you in your career, in any way, shape or form or or do you? I don't believe. So I think more. So the fact that I came out of the Ivy league and the stigma don't. Yeah. This stigma there, and you know, just as a player, you know, the the stigma was he's he's a smart guy. But maybe not as athletic where I was one of the most athletic guys in the league the year. I went to the combine. Yeah, I was in top two or three in all the measurable, athletic wise, you know, but people always came back to while. He's the smart quarterback. Ryan Fitzpatrick exact same. Exactly you also played your most of your career in Miami. And New York so lot of Jews playing quarterback your whole career in Jacksonville. One year over there. Deal with the dolphins. But playing in Miami and New York if they're going to be at least he face somewhat tunnel. Well. Jewish quarterback those.

"I'm a longtime Suffragettes van thirty five years. Not as many scars bless you. But I got that special one that I still feel for Gastineau roughing the path Cleveland. Oh, yeah. God. Yeah. It's just amazing job. You know, when you look back at jed history they've been around so long. It's just mind boggling, I was having discussion my friends, obviously when you think of quarterbacks Joe name at this number one tourist or the promised land. He's on that pedestal. But thinking the gap between number one and would be the second best quarterback. We ever had Joe. I couldn't even before today. I mean, what would you go with joke you pick? Well, first of all, I would I eliminate I'm eliminating Brett farve bread fought to me. He was there one year. He didn't want to be United started out eight and three got hurt. He was more worried about as stupid streak than than than the good of the team. So forget him. I put boomer out because boomer boomer had the really a couple of decent years, but he played for three different coaches in three different years. So I gotta you had some. That's unbelievable. I got to put that out. So so I probably would say that the second best jet quarterback. Okay, is probably Chad Pennington is probably. But you guys we kept going back with Pennington oral Brian. We. The accomplishments, but he had swelled Joe, you gotta you gotta put video because video was actually there a couple of years, and you know, Vinnie was a quarterback had that great year ninety acres to be ninety eight team is the second best team. They have had next to the championship team that ninety eight ten was a tremendous team. You know, it's unfortunate didn't work out in Denver and all that. But Vinnie Vinnie was good. He took up to the playoffs again in two thousand and one. So he was there a few years. So you gotta put his top five guys. I said at the other day, he's the guys always say as a top five. All right. And like I said, I'm eliminating father, Melinda. Eliminating boomer. Obviously, it's Joe Willie. Then you can go anywhere. You want Pennington is in there O'Brien is in there. Vinnie is in there. And I think you've got to put Sanchez Joe. AFC game. Right. The guy won four playoff games. He won more playoff games in ancient history and on consecutive weekends on the road beat manning. And Brady how do I put him in? I dunno. I mean, maybe maybe there was more situation would have Joe what all said and done with a psychological breakdown than anything. I don't thinks. He's what happen enjoy appreciate the call. Here's what happened with Sanchez in my mind, first of all after those two championship game appearances. They thought at the break team down around them. That's number one that year the next year they actually were eight and five in twenty eleven eight and five and then he collapsed last three games that he had had a game in Philly where they got destroyed by the eagles, then they lost at the zest the Christmas Eve disaster the Victor Cruz game against the giants. I still got scars from that game. And then the last game of the year against Miami. When he still had a chance to make the playoffs. Remember what happened here? He got undermined by San Antonio homes in apparently homes, embarrassed black. Boras. We're really undermining Sanchez all year on the team. And then the next year, you know, he was gonna wind up starting like they start again next year. They went six and ten next year. He was going to start. And then Rex for some dumb reason had to put him in that stupid preseason Snoopy ball against the giants. Anyone getting hurt? And that was pretty much the end of it the Sanchez, but I think when you have to look at the. What do you look at the jets over the history of the franchise? I think that I think you gotta put Sanchez in thought five quarterback's name it Pennington Vinnie..

"I done one press conference in New England. This was before it was mandatory. And like the middle of August when they're about six people at the press conference, and then barely anybody ask the question. And then I go to New York, and there's, you know, twenty five cameras in the back of room, and there's one hundred people in the room and having to deal with with that aspect of it was hard. It was really hard. And then when you're that young you've gotta you've gotta establish legitimacy in the building. And guys have to see that you actually can put him in a position to win. And otherwise. It's nice that you have the job. You're gonna lose. You're gonna lose the building pretty quickly. Yeah. It's the old. You know control the story before the story controls you. That's how they got Jim Thome Sula. Yeah. That's right. When you started in that press conference a press conference. I did did they ever conclusively. Yes. It'll come on. You've is your brain. You heard it like it was a part is Jim Thome sewer. That's far guy. You know, you you coached with coach Tom Soule with him. Gives greek. I didn't I never actually seen that press conference. I'm let's take a look at it. Yeah. No. I did not. I did not do that. In a press conference. I was fortunate that way, did you say that you lived with Jim no worked with them. No. I I worked with I was about ten so many questions. What was? Steve prescott. What was like the worst press conference answer? Or I don't know. Maybe there wasn't a specific answer. But one time that you like man, I wish I had that back that was really stupid of me. I just said I said CAD penny who is our quarterback right now. No. No. And I I said it during trait we drafted Kellen Clemens. It was during training camp. It wasn't. It was all about stressing. The fact that everybody was in a competitive, you know, everybody had to compete, but it wasn't trying to stir up any big quarterback controversy is just following in line with every other position. And it became a story for you know, the next month. Chad's gonna lose his job engineer certain nights at you know, thousand if I just stopped at Chad Pennington is the quarterback into ended the press conference. It would have been a lot a lot better. That gets every coach though, also this is our quarterbacks Chad Pennington his position that Chad Pennington places starting quarterback for the moment. Yes. He's not like, he's not a long-term anything. So I think true. Yeah. All right. My last question, it's a Seekie question. Put in promo code take. You get ten dollars off your seek purchase. So it actually was the twentieth. Anniversary of the sopranos coming out. I think it was like Thursday. And I know we asked you in person. But when you were in the sopranos when you were at the Suva was it was severe too. I think because the first one down woes, Tony the insure burnt Dom shirts. Did you did you meet all the guys?.

"Teams out there rookie quarterback starting right now for at least while I guess we could say four depending on Josh Allen with the injuries. They're struggling. It's to be expected. What to look at what not to look at? And should we be concerned our buddy Chad Pennington, former jets and dolphins quarterback knows a finger to about these young guys. Joining us now in Chad. Look, I'm a realist I understand young quarterbacks. Going to struggle. I'm a diehard jet fan and Sam darnold Shirley has had good moments. But he's also, of course, had some bad moments as well. So just last week with foreigners options how concerned should we be? When we watch young quarterback struggle the way Josh Rosen. Josh Allen Baker Mayfield in Sam darnold half. Well, it just depends on what you're looking at. And what you're looking for. I think I think everybody knows that young quarterbacks are going to struggle and. Rookie quarterbacks are going to be inconsistent. The key is being able to have a team around them to make up for their inconsistency and still win football games. And for most of these teams are unable to do that very few are. But things like Baltimore Ravens in two thousand eight Ray able to do that with Joe flacco and Pittsburgh Steelers with being rothlisburger when he was a rookie. So it can't be done. But it certainly takes a special team to do it. And so it's just one of those things it's growing pain a rookie quarterback plane. That's why I've always been a proponent of being being able to sit and watch a little bit. So they can make some mistakes behind closed doors and not make them in front of us on the television screen, jed you sat a couple of years in New York with the jets, and I'll be honest. I think fans were concerned what's going on? Chad Pennington is is he is he a bust. And then of course, you show up you play, and you do great if you didn't get to sit and learn like that would you have struggled the same way, you think these young quarterbacks have I think so I think a lot of times come in your ear. And you're basically just relying on what you did in college and relying on that experience almost two straight years of football from your last year in college to your first year in the NFL. True. I all season and most gotta take a little bit of a step back sometimes because it just learning how to be a pro. And then typically by that thirty year old should be coming on be able to put that together together, mentally and physically both on and off the field. And then, you know, exactly what type of product you have. And when it's quarterback can be the guy to lead your organisation in the future. It's interesting to listen to, you know, experts as yourself is or my girlfriend Brian Baldinger talking about the fact of throw the interceptions in Baldy says this throw the interceptions out the window. Look it's going to happen. Peyton Manning threw twenty eight picks in his rookie year. You Jared Goff looked lost his rookie year. Carson Wentz wasn't great as rookie. I mean, most rookies do struggle in the sense of the game slowing down Chad. And I want to get through your face mask, and the view that you had is that true. I mean is it a a matter of the game literally slowing down is it a case where you just get better at reading defenses, the linebackers the safeties their mannerisms things like that. I think instead of the game slowing down. I think it is you it's you as a person and quarterback being able to speed up and catch up, mentally, and what happens is the role speed of the game is relatively the same. But when you take the knowledge and the anticipation of a player that has speed and add that to it that the difference in the professional game is that knowledge and experience in that study that professional players have compared to most college players. And so while the raw speed may be the same in a forty. It's completely different on the field. Because you're talking about anticipation and making plays in reaction time. You've had the chance to sit down some of these young quarterbacks, correct? Okay. So Sam darnold, for instance, comes in hyped. Remember, the whole suck for Sam thing that that was kind of going around teams losing to try to get Sam darnold. You know? His mindset, you know, his brain. I mean, you know, people talk about how he picks up things quickly his intelligence. So when you kind of take that into consideration, you're dealing with Sam darnold and even Baker Mayfield as well. And you see what's going on on the field. Does it put you more at ease? Because the fact you have a better understanding as to them their football IQ and things like that to where they're struggling. And they have been the fact is that you have confidence that these are struggles that they can get through and be productive quarterbacks in the NFL. First of all, I'm I'm at ease. Because I think both of these guys are passers, and they can truly pass the football. They're able to pass a football field in three dimensions. Meaning that the window. Just doesn't have to be a two dimensional window where you throw a line drive. They they have the ability with their physical talent to throw in the pockets into buckets and into holes that go up over one defender down into the hole before the second level defender gets there. That's the art of passing especially in hourly I'm encouraged by that also encouraged by their escape ability and their presence could be able to get outside the pocket extend the play still remain a passer, they don't instantly become a runner. I think both of them have good leadership skills. And so I am encouraged by both of them. I think with Sam you have to remember that. He's just twenty one years old. He turned twenty one in June twenty three twenty four is a rookie. Baker already has two more years of experience on him. H standpoint. And so that is huge just immaturity. And what you can handle or being processed information. It's just a part of the growing pains that all of us have to go through John quarterbacks. Let alone when you're twenty one years old. Former jets and dolphins quarterback. Chad Pennington joining us go and deep Dan Schwartzman, NBC sports radio. I wanna get the Josh L. And he's a big is got his strong arm is we've probably ever seen. But accuracy was concern coming out of Wyoming. It seems to be a concern early on here is accuracy. Chatting, you're one of the most accurate passers in the history of football. Is accuracy something that can be taught. It can be worked on to a point especially accuracy versus when you're throwing routes versus air. A lotta times. Accuracy can also be dependent on decision making. And so that's where you have to really evaluate and say, hey is his accuracy just physical inaccuracy or his inaccuracy based upon decision-making go sometimes we can make bad decisions, and it's not necessarily the throw its decision that created the incompletion. And so that's what you have to be able to evaluate. I think some of that can be worked on not to the extent to be able to go from a fifty five percent passer to seventy percent passer. But I think you could be able to work on that to give somebody like Josh up to around sixty two to sixty three percent and make him a little bit more efficient. That's one of the things that I think are young quarterbacks don't understand is how to play efficient football. And that means making good decisions. And that means staying ahead of the sticks. Sometimes not trying to force a ball in their first and ten taking that cheque down this not pretty or sexy. But it gets you the second of five and in the playbook is wide open for you there compared to second and ten and that's just part of that efficiency any which then leads to consistency that they have to learn and understand Chad the other Josh Rosen. I'm talking about came in as the guy who was most NFL ready. According to a lot of scouts that. You know, you read you have a unique perspective with Josh Rosen guy that I'm sure you know, very well is now he's offensive coordinator that being Byron left, which another first round pick out of Marshall as yourself. Have. You had a chance to sit down. Dow talk to Barin about Josh Rosen about the offense there in Arizona. I have actually have. And I'm excited about the opportunity. Byron has also excited for Josh to be able to work with fire because he is extremely smart and talented when it comes to seem the game and being able to understand it from a quarterback perspective. And I will tell you that even though we try to say a lot of these or Baxter, or at least point to some of them that may be NFL ready. I just don't think they are. I think that with some of the college schemes nowadays it simplified the game for college football. But it's made it more difficult or quarterback to death into the NFL because of the volume of information than an NFL quarterback has to handle. And so a lotta times of these coaches in the NFL are just teaching basic concepts to our young quarterbacks that quite frankly, they should already know, but they don't and so you have to take a step back and teach them certain things. Just so that they can. Begin to have an understanding of the type of schemes that you're trying to implement do you think the NFL Chad still has a problem where you get a guy up there at the combine or personal workout and he's built and he's six six six five two thirty five and he's a strong armed kid. You know what I'm saying? Like, he looks the part, right? And yet you watched the filming you say, but he hasn't play the part does the NFL in your mind. Still have a problem where if a guy kind of fits the description teams yet all hot and heavy and jump a little too early for them. I certainly think they used to. I do think that they have the evaluators within the NFL are starting to warm up to the fact that quarterback come in all shapes and sizes, and now it's you're seeing Baker Mayfield who you know, as badly six feet six one be drafted first pick of the draft. That would not have happened ten years ago. I don't think so, you know, so I think with the success of drew Brees. Russell Wilson those types of players. I think that the NFL and the evaluators in the NFL starting to warm up to the fact that he can play ball. He can play ball. It will find a way to make him successful. We just need leaders. We need ballplayers and forget the cookie cutter mentality. Now some positions they can still get away with that. Because it's less volume that those positions have to handle and they want to rely more on athleticism. But at the quarterback position, it's not about that. It's going to be about leadership skills. It's going to be about accuracy in anticipation, and then you start to look at some of the physical tangible things that you can measure Japanese and joining us go in deep Dan, Schwartzman, NBC sports radio. Chad last question, I have to admit I am pretty stunned with what Patrick Mahomes has been able to do in Kansas City's first full season as a starter. I mean, he comes out hype from Texas Tech. And you know, there's always that, you know, Texas Tech. It's a gimmicky type of offense started by Mike Leach, you know, he's a strong armed kid. He's going to be a gambler. He's going to be Brett farve. Great throws. But he'll make some bad decisions as well. We haven't really seen that. Are you surprised at how mature he seems to be back there in the pocket where he doesn't seem to know, you know, he doesn't go. I have such a great. I'm gonna throw it through a defense. In fact, he seems to be a really refined quarterback. Well, I'm not going to give him the maturity credit just yet. We'll give credit is Andy Reid has done a fantastic job in building this system for Patrick Mahomes. First of all being in the west coast system, which I was in early in my career there is a lot of progression reading, and you don't have to necessarily decipher defenses. And so for young quarterback. If you stick to your progressions a lot of times in the west coast. It will certainly help you stay out of trouble and be able to complete the balls and be successful. That's number one. Eighty Reid is also done a great job of introducing the run pass option into the chiefs offense, which was something that Patrick Mahomes was used to in college also with his arm talent. And he almost becomes a baseball player behind center. Sometimes like a shortstop where he's making these crazy angle throws based upon these RPO's around pass options, which very few people can do. But he is he can do that. In India reason, a great job of putting? He knows in the offense. And then finally he has some really good talent to complement what he can do. Yeah. So whether it be on the perimeter whether it be in the backfield, it's a mixture of combination of things, but I'm certainly not gonna take it away from Patrick Mahomes because he has been outstanding. And not just good. He's been great. He's been great MVP level grade. No question about it. Chad Pennington former jets and dolphins quarterback. Chad. Always appreciate your perspective when it comes to the quarterbacks, my friend. Thanks for joining us as always, absolutely. Thank you for having me. Great catch up with our buddy. "But at the end of the day when they sit there and talk about his arm strength union issue is no Chad Pennington was used in very accurate quarterback. I think he's the most accurate quarterback in NFL history statistically, and he just couldn't throw pass fifteen twenty yards. And you're going out there in your hearing that Ryan tannehill can barely throw a Nerf football. They're concerned if it's ever gonna I mean, it sounds like they might be concerned if it ever comes back to where it once was so I mean, I went out there. And I said as a joke, but it's funny because at the beginning of the year, if you would a tweet it out, you know, Chad Pennington or that. In Ryan tannehill was as good as was a equal quarterback to Chad pain to net. He wasn't more significantly better player than Chad. Pennington people probably would have bashed you. You would have you know, you would have lost followers. You would gun heated argument because everyone loved Ryan tannehill. And I went out there and tweeted that and immediately everything that was in my mentions, they were just people going off and say, and that's an insult to chat. Pennington, you know, Chad pain to a so much so much smarter than what Ryan Tenedos he has a better grasp of football is he was more accurate this and that and it's just crazy. I mean, I think we've all kind of done it. But it's just so crazy how quickly that you turn. You know, you sit there and you say Ryan tannehill franchise quarterback. He's you had people in July synod rather have freakin Ryan tannehill over Patrick Mahomes in what world would anybody have ever said that I just don't I don't understand it anybody ever watched. Patrick Mahomes store. Football would have never said that and people yet went out there. And you know, they said I'd rather Ryan tannehill because he was the dolphins quarterback and everyone had hoped. He's going to pick up where we left off until sixteen. He wasn't injury prone. Well, guess what? He is injury prone. He's a slightly. Above average quarterback. And now the team has a quarterback issue. So when you sit there, and you tweet out, you know, he's an equal quarterback. Chad painting is now Chad Pennington, I just baffled by how many people were defending Chad Pennington because if Chapman Kuzina NFL today, you know, the dolphins aren't going nine and seven I'm in the same story. So for me, it's a huge concern. The dolphins. Oh him a ton of money. He's on the roster next year. But I just don't see a better option out that we mentioned teddy Bridgewater. You mentioned drafting a quarterback. But you draft a quarterback you still need to have that veteran in place, and it's just hard. I think you need to see how this unfolds but for me Ryan tannehill his days are absolutely number two Miami. I you have to feel like this coaching staff. You know, Adam gates he kinda hinted his his try to him and his coaching career was kind of tied with Ryan tannehill. And you seem taking a step back now and realize you know, what like if I want to be a head coach NFL to get my guy, and I need to go out there and and try to win games with him. So it's crazy to think of how a couple of weeks ago, people were downplaying whether or not he was even hurt. And now, we're what four weeks. Slater. And he's still not throwing a football to the same velocity. Once was not even throwing a football last. I heard he was still in left handed. No, he's gonna pick up Nerf football this week. So it's definitely concerning. The dolphins have a lot of money locked up in that guy, a whole lot of years invested in that guy, it it's hard to say, you know, hopefully, this isn't the Enron tannehill. Because you don't want to go out that way, you invested seven years in and you wanna go out because of injury. I mean those first few weeks this season. You look good. They look like crap. And then he got hurt. So it's it's really harmed untorn dolphins fan 'cause you wanna see him get a fair shot, but it's been seven fricken year. So you'd have a backup plan..

Is there a bills quarterback, who's beaten Brady multiple times. I don't think so. Has anybody who's beaten. Tom Brady multiple times who's the only quarterback to have done it Brady's twenty eight and three against buffalo in division in division. I would just off the top of my head, the only quarterbacks who probably have beaten, Tom Brady multiple times are named Chad Pennington Sanchez, Mark Sanchez. The dolphins has Taniela even done. "Harto Right Seven, one, three, five, seven, two, four, six ten if you want to get in and we have one more segment that we are in for after, this we're going to take a look at things going on around the. League you had to do that during the game. Today, Paul how hard is it to do a little halftime report when all that's really going on is just a couple of other, week three preseason. Games it's difficult because you have to check the box scores and you don't really get any context as to how long player, plays and it's difficult to know how many series specific quarterbacks played because that's really all you care about during the pre. Season how are the young quarterbacks? Doing are they developing in? Particular I want to know how did Andrew luck look today I saw on. Twitter some people, saying doesn't look like he has the same arm strength to something I thought was definitely a. Possibility and then you also take a look at Marcus mariota who I have been on record. Saying I don't think he's. Good I think he's a good. Quarterback I think that the titans need to move on and find somebody else they want to continue doing what the work's not not continue if they wanna if they want to copy if they want to replicate what the dolphins have been doing with Ryan tannehill and what the Bengals have been with, Andy Dalton, Nido, splendid I. Mean you you could have worse quarterback situations that. We, had it last year here with the Texans but it looked like he had a poor game today for Tennessee I think that, is to me. That is the biggest fear that personnel people in head coaches have yet to really effectively reconcile within the NFL which is understanding, that a quarterback who's just average who just sort of gives you a chance to win I know the eagles won a. Super Bowl with a backup in? Nick foles last year trust? Me if Nick foles were the starting quarterback for the entirety of the sixteen. Games in the, regular season last year Philadelphia probably doesn't make the play he's coming off of an awful preseason. Game on Thursday so he's turned into a pumpkin he's turned into a pumpkin but back to. Mariota and Dalton and hill. And all the guys like that. Generally speaking that's to me that's the biggest fear the general managers need to overcome is if you're the titans if you're John Robinson the realization that this guy can't take us where we need to go this guy I mean unless I knock it out of the park with every draft pick and, every free, agency And that's where general manager sometimes she'll A little bit. Of, hubris with a? Quarterback like that like you know what I. Can GM my way around this thing they won't ever say that publicly because you're, denigrating your, quarterback when you're saying, that but they they have an ego the things they realize maybe this guy is not, totally the guy to get them. There but I can get them there I'm smart enough to put. An offensive line in front of them I'm smart enough to build, a defense and most GM's or, not and you're in zero sum game you're in division where there's only. One good quarterback in the AFC south so you're counting. Andrew luck right now. As, a handwriting a very good quarterback I I don't know why people are assuming that he's going to be the. Same guy that he used to be the, guy has had shoulder issues for now two years, and his biggest asset is his arm which is a cannon. When he was one hundred percent healthy he's not particularly intelligent like. He does boneheaded dumb ass interceptions time-to-time he was doing that back in. Two thousand fourteen when the AFC championship. He look don't don't get me wrong like he played very well for Couple of seasons but it's his right shoulder and he. Needs, to laser it? In when he makes them of these these. Risky decisions he has the arm strength to get it through he doesn't have the, strength to, get through tight window, anymore those are going to get picked off easily he went healthy like the the book, on Andrew luck when healthy is. A little it's it's actually a lot like the one we just. We've spent the show talking about the Shawn Watson where the one, weakness in their game is the, thought that they can make any throw and make any play out there. And in a way Andrew luck arm when healthy is. Little like Watson's maneuverability. And, elusiveness it's his superhero power but unfortunately it's a superhero power that tricks you sometimes into thinking I can make. That play or I can make that throw, and that's something he's gonna have to relearn he's, going to have to recalibrate like how he plays the position. And maybe he becomes the Chad Pennington type but that's not gonna. Win you anything like Chad Pennington title you damn right on that and. I mean Chad Pennington ties Alex Smith. Is a very very rich man Chad Pennington type. And that guy got sent out of town for a guy with another cannon arm and Patrick Mahomes you, got that right I have one more segment to go we'll take a look at things going on we'll take a look. At some I don't, know if you guys were that interested in the scores around the league but we'll take. A look, at some of the notable performances in preseason football this weekend is we do a, scoreboard check and also a year. Ago tonight the Texans were getting routed to. Dallas not Houston JJ watt was asked about that following the game tonight will let you hear from Texans defensive, end about the one year anniversary of hurricane Harvey we'll do, that next final segment coming. "Yeah. Randy moss is a hall of Famer, and I'm thinking Chad Pennington was their quarterback for the jets and dolphins eleven years. First round quarterback. Herm Edwards told me the smartest player and the best team, and he's ever coached in the NFL and Chad Pennington, you think NFL corner struggled to guard Randy moss. So Chad played with Randy moss. It Marshall at the time. I think they were division one double a. what do you think it was like for college corners and I bring on Chad Pennington who have not talked to in a long time. Chad, you're at the hall of fame stuff. Go back to college in Randy moss. Was it comical for college guys to defend that we have some video? What was it like? Colin? It certainly wasn't fair, and I remember we played one year together in one double a. Al actually being Richard that you're the next year. We moved up for one a. f. b. s. level. And I remember every one eighteen we played that year. All thirteen of them, including SEC. School ole miss and mount with Tom BYU. They wanted to guard Randy one on one to start the game. And then once we proved that Randy was better than anybody they had out on the field, we burn them for a touchdown or two, then they decide to go to double coverage. And sometimes that didn't even matter. Either rainy had not only remarkable speed in size, but he had great hands. He, he actually knew the route tree. He's the best receiver I've ever seen in. I love Jerry Rice, but Randy is the greatest wide receiver I have ever seen. Now you are a jets quarterback and it's different playing in New York, Sam darnold they're saying now could start week one. Boy, that is a lot. Chad. He's Twenty-one. He's got the fewest starts of any of these first round quarterbacks. He's the youngest. Do you think it's a good idea by the jets. Eight feels my recommendation. I wouldn't recommend it, and I'm just thinking long term here. I know everyone's excited about young on talent and this attention, but you want the potential to have a chance to develop so that the potential can then become reality. Sometime we get caught up in the potential of things, especially a young guy like Sam who's twenty one years old. I just think back to Alex Smith and him being thrown into the fire with the forty Niners and then people writing him off. And then when he finally had a chance to develop youth right people, he took off and he's still playing in a high level now. And so my recommendation in no matter what I would see in this first season would not be to play Sam darnold. I think you have to really good veteran quarterback that can certainly hold down the fort while this young kid develops, think having Josh mccown in the room, it's going to be do so much for Sam and his development both on and off field bridgewater's certainly a proven. Quarterback as well for the short time he's been in. So they're really in a good sweet spot not to have to feel the pressure to place that I agree with you that there in a rare spot where they actually have to smart veterans. Very rarely does anybody even keep three quarterbacks. I get Bridgewater and mccown you of all the teams that have quarterbacks that is a luxury by the way. Now Baker Mayfield in Cleveland. Now Cleveland's not the spotlight city, but because of his antics and his personality, he's a spotlight player. What would you do with Baker Mayfield? What advice would you give Baker Mayfield if you could in your one. Well, first of all, be patient certainly be competitive. Certainly, you know, have the desire to play but understand, don't let that derail you alone term goals of being the best professional quarterback. You can be in create loan jeopardy just because you may go out there as you know, planning have one great year the consistency fact. That's what it's all about in this league because team starts to study using got more game film on you..

"Bridgewater after drafting your future and you're a coaching staff that is under fire, you're a front office, it's under fire. So you have to put the guy in there that you really think you can attach your future to Sam darnold goes out and struggles to some degree. Everyone's going to expect that to be the way it is. I think they're basically going to glow over teddy Bridgewater verbally and in the press all summer in an attempt to trade him. But you still have to showcase them to to then actually turn that into him being darnold of all the rookies has the best chance to start week one by far. And if if unless he really implodes during preseason action, I think that's the one team. That would roll with with with him. I think I might put him last Darnell to start week one because Josh mccown played really well last year, and they love him and Bridgewater to me is one of the most interesting figures in August to watch because he has a pretty good chance to beat out mccown, but he also pretty good chance to bring a draft pick a pretty hefty draft, pick and return. If he looks good. I don't know if you're this front office and coaching staff that you can fiddle around with Josh mccown for eight or nine weeks. Well, they also remember they might wanna fiddle around with Josh mccown who prove last year that he could run the offense. They got to save their jobs. They got to win seven or eight games the jets get this regime with Todd Bowles and also Mike mcalinden. So I really, I still see the most likely way plays out is mccown four weeks. And then Darnell takes over in October, and I think teddy does get traded, but it's the platonic ideal from a fan perspective, not the jets fan necessary. Early, but just the average NFL fan for an a quarterback battle. I mean, it's got everything. It does got the old trust. The guy who's coming off the best season by jets quarterback. Probably since Chad Pennington. It's got an interesting trade package guy who's about his beloved as anyone and it's got. It's got a young hotshot, but I can't imagine the jets are dumb enough not to just prioritize Sam darnold over everything else. That's really the only thing that they truly care about. And that is what I, what is it. You can't give whatever ridge water reps if you're giving because whatever they think's best for Sam darnold that that's what's going to do. So getting all the reps for Sam darnold the best thing then yeah, then grew teddy, but it sounds like an and I agree with Dan, like they probably want to the rule with Sam darnold. He's youngest quarterback to enter the league in a long time. He doesn't have a whole lot of college experience and you've got these two veterans, so they probab- I would think they've arrived at that. We're going to slow play out, saying John, I don't know, not gonna get any snap. I think he's on. Darnold maybe do practice. I think mccown's like almost a player coach there and they'll have to get him ready in the week or two before the this is a for that maybe not. This is not John Beck and Rex Grossman behind. I think they like both their options and I would put a sandwich on it with you Mark the on, do it right now. That is not the week one on that action. What's up there? I'll go one on one with Dan because he's the Jedi. For sporting sake and none of these sandwiches ever get paid out anyways, I'll go with unmarked side and it'll be it'll be a duo say, well, let's do that tag tubers agree to that. If there are sandwiches will pay. All right. It's happening the love it. It's like the corn was squad back together. That is the other team. All right. It's not fair if you two are in the same. Not at all. Scott. I'm my fly or I'm a fly, and I'm buzzing..

"Do you NFL training camps rolling out this week. In earnest we had a terrible, story yesterday, Minnesota Vikings offensive, line coach Tony Sporanos died unexpectedly at the age of. Fifty six the team made a shocking announcement. Yesterday afternoon Sparrow had complained about chest pains and went to the hospital. On Thursday a source, tells ESPN's Chris Mortensen Speranza underwent tests and was released. On Friday the source. Said Sperone his wife found him unconscious yesterday morning as they prepared to leave for church but could not. Revive him he was the assistant and assistant with the Minnesota Vikings for the past. Two seasons he worked for nine NFL teams over nineteen years with head coaching stints in Miami and on an interim basis with Oakland Raiders in two. Thousand fourteen he also held positions with the Browns with, Washington Jacksonville Dallas San Francisco and the New. York Jets and you may remember one of the better single season coaching jobs in, recent memory two, thousand eight the. Miami Dolphins remember they got Chad Pennington who was basically Discarded after the jets got Debretts farve there was this obviously the, the, the, New England Patriots have been a dynasty in the. AFC and have owned the AFC, east the, Miami Dolphins in, two thousand eight with Chad Pennington lost their first two. Games and then won eleven of their next. Fourteen coming off a year where they went one in fifteen that eleven. And five season for, the Miami Dolphins in two thousand eight is the only. Year in the last. Fifteen that the patriots didn't win the division and that eleven and five season is the only time in. The history of the National Football League that a coach led his team to the. Playoffs after his team won one game or less the previous year did a fantastic job with that Miami team in reading number of the tributes from. Players who played for him not just in Minnesota but, also Miami and other spots a devoted family. Man his daughter apparently just got married two weeks ago four grandchildren and so the, NFL world mourning, the loss of. A longtime assistant and head coach Tony spurlock Meanwhile in Canada Johnny Manziel has been traded can't play for the Hamilton tiger cats can't get on the field so they have traded him to the Montreal Alouette according to a TSN and reunites him with a familiar face Mike Sherman coach Manzella Texas a. and m. during his redshirt freshman season of two thousand eleven that was sherman's final season coaching the aggies I don't follow a ton of CFL football but the Alouette severity tried three different quarterbacks they have the worst offense in the l. so maybe Menzel is actually going to get a chance to, play that chance did, not exist with the Hamilton tiger, cats Johnny Manziel is. In Montreal and you're hearing time and again about, you know. What are the big issues between players and owners in the NFL is players one, guaranteed, money Owners aren't willing to give, it to them But they can look no further than the second pick in this year's draft saquon Barkley the New York Giants according to NFL media's Ian Rapoport are. Set to sign Barclay to his. Rookie deal that'll pay him thirty one point two million. Dollars guaranteed a four year deal fully guaranteed now rookies obviously have a lot less wiggle. Room than they did pre two thousand eleven the new CBA basically dictates with these guys are going to get the deal comes with, signing bonus of just over twenty million dollars and there's apparently, offset language that will keep Barclay from quote double dipping in the event of the giants. Cut him before the end of the contract and also it's worth pointing out that New York holds, the fifth an option for a fifth year which, is the case for all first round picks but it goes to show an Zeki l. fully. Guaranteed deal from the Dallas Cowboys didn't. Payments much money didn't go. As early in the draft. Is partly did there's a sticking point there Players and. Owners players want more guaranteed money owners don't want to give it to him but anecdotally they can Kirk cousins free agent Minnesota fully,.

"The broncos discussion is very different because you're drafting him in the top five but i'm just talking about if if baker mayfield could be chad pennington i think a lot of teams who take that but you can't take that at pick five if you're gonna take him at pick five he better be michael vick ally fill up stafford mattie is cam andrew lock daughter means ten mattie isis one of those middle of the road guys too i don't consider him elite so we'll go through that extra because ended the bigger point i was trying to make with this is that there's a projected five quarterbacks could go in the first round that has never happened in the history of the nfl i don't think it's happened in the history of the nfl but certainly hasn't happened since two thousand i was just being overly dramatic i see multiple quarterback classes that have four first round picks none of these since two thousand five and none of these classes are one hundred percent hits michael vick was one hundred percent in two thousand one because he was the only quarterback taken in the first round drew brees was second round pick and then in two thousand seven only jamarcus and brady were drafted so obviously that's two swings and miss so in terms of classes that have four quarterbacks two thousand and three carson palmer we would say good that was good pick maybe not deserve him i pick but whatever and then you had three mrs and byron left which kabul and rex grossman two thousand four as i mentioned you add ally you had philip you have banned but you also j p wasserman so the question is not all five of these guys will become will be franchise quarterbacks now couple of these guys will be out of the league in five years and only real realistically you can only look at two of these guys and say that they'll hit so some food for thought because we have crunch time some food for thought through the weekend.

"And he's going to be expected to deliver the football you know mark sanchez at a problem when it came to complete and passes in the nfl that was one of his many downfalls as to why things didn't work out for him alternately what the new york jets and look i'm a stickler of it as anybody else i need i want my quarterback out there completing over sixty percent of his passes on sundays in the nfl you're darn right i do remember something about josh allen josh allen did not play in an offense in college like some of these other quarterbacks did all right the screen game for example was not as big a feature in josh allens offense at wyoming as it was with some of these other guys you know what screens are there high percentage throws so naturally your completion percentage is going to be sky high you remember back to win chad pennington was the jet quarterback and i love chad pennington i'd loved chad pennington all my goodness if they could just get that guy healthy shoulders i mean who knows what he would have become who knows where that football team would have gun on all seriousness the guy's career was robbed by injuries he couldn't stay healthy but chad pennington had a huge quarterback rating every year chad pennington at a high completion percentage every year you know why a lot of safe throws you know a lot of the play action fakes lot of the screens wasn't really taking shots down the field vertically most of his throws were short to intermediate throws and those are why you're completion percentage was always going to be high that wasn't the offense josh allen was running and why.

"A really good steam showers all over us who got you talking about what's going to become tiger woods what's gonna become of your new york jets quarterback situation lousy i mean i mean what do you mean i i the best quarterback the jets have had in my lifetime i give believe i'm saying this since i guess i mean i'm not gonna count like nine hundred seventy two when i was born maybe name was still hanging around i don't know i don't know anyway yeah he was overrated anyway chad pennington the best quarterback i've ever had red red farm all right far for a game but farve at forty two i think same age as tiger by the way that's a good point i mean listen you teddy bridgewater is it's it's a one year kind of respiratory and it's it's you know he's he's got incentives to get up to fifteen million dollars so we'll see there and you got the veteran quarterback i'm fine with everything they did i didn't need to have kirk cousins on the team because i've told trey and i've told golick forever that yeah i want a young franchise quarterback i the jets to get it right so even with the moves they made this past week which i'm fine with i still hopeful still think they have to go out and draft a quarterback in the nfl draft and i think that they will and hopefully it will be the right one but it's the jets and that means it will probably be the wrong.
