"chad pennington" Discussed on Greg Bedard Patriots Podcast with Nick Cattles

"Or somebody else around Andre Stevenson out of the lineup today? I mean, look, you look at the bills, they've been run over by everybody, including since the win game in Buffalo. They've had issues with the run. The box ran on them well. You run on the bucks. I mean, you run on the bills. And the problem is that the Patriots don't have a lot of confidence in their past game. And look, I think Mac Jones has done really well, especially for rookie. Today was a terrible game. I just posted on Twitter that he had a -19.5 completion percentage above expectation actually below expectation. He was supposed to complete 63% of his passes. He completed 43.8. So far, that's the second lowest in the NFL this week to Jake fromm, who was terrible for the Giants. And look, some of that is, you know, it was desperation time late and the interception late was just him trying to make a play. So a lot of it, some of it is not fair. But look, he wasn't good enough today. You can tell, I know people have been clamoring all year. You know, why don't you do this? Why aren't you more aggressive? How many more weeks do you have to watch this team? And say, the people that know them the best, the coaches, who are out there every day in practice with them, they know what their guys are capable of. They do not think putting a game on Mac Jones shoulders is a good path for this team. And I'm not going to argue with them. As far as the running game, yeah, you gotta try to come out and pound the run. It'd be nice if you could block a running play worth a crap to come out for the game for like the third straight week. You know, first play of the game, David Anders allows penetration. I mean, just that stuff can't go on. They need to start faster on the offensive line. The offensive line was a disaster against the colts to start the game. This offense has a very narrow path to victory and being successful. And that means that the guys that they rely on, you know, guys who have returned when Keras Andrews mason Trent Brown, those guys need to execute. And that they're not is not helping this team, and then you're putting Mac Jones in tough positions, and we know by now. He is not capable of shouldering the load for this offense, not against a really good team. And so they have to find a different formula. Stephen Paul river, Europe here on the show's patriots postgame show with Greg beard. Go ahead, Steve. How are you? Good, good. I heard, I heard one of the talk radio hosts compare Mac Jones to Chad Pennington and I'm watching today and I'm like, that's a great comparison. And that's good. But it's not great. I mean, the guy was good. He wasn't great. Pennington may actually have had a stronger arm, which is a little hard to believe. Considering he didn't have a stronger. But that's what we have. Now the draft hurts them today. This is one of your third round drastic. I'm going to let you go on that, Steve. Let's just keep it to the quarterback. And what we were saying, so I get the impression Greg. Much like how Joe was brought up earlier in the show. You kind of believe that the elements could be an issue for him. Like the throne in the cold is potentially a problem for Mac Jones. I do think right now I do think that. I mean, I think that, you know, his hand size is fine, but, you know, look, he has to get his legs into his throes. There are some place that it looks fine. I do think if he's in if he's in a strong wind, if he's in a headwind, I think he has a shoes, throwing to all parts of the field. I think you're limited on where he can throw the ball. Now, that caller brought up Chad Pennington. That's a comparison that I made before the season very early in the season after watching him all in training camp. I said, you know, a young Chad Pennington. Not Chad Pennington at the end. When his arm was shot, that being said, I do think that Mac Jones over time, like Tom Brady with weight training and all that stuff and off season conditioning didn't really have a real NFL off season this year as far as that. His arm's going to get stronger. It's going to be better. I think it's good enough, but he is a rookie, and he has limitations with his arm right now. And I do think that the elements bother him, especially the wind. I think that he does not have a strong enough arm to cut through windy conditions and I was worried about today and those worries turned out to be right. Yeah, I think I agree with you and I think we start in the first half. I don't want to say noodle arm, but I did see it early on and when it came to the second half again, I think they did go away from the running game, but I asked Jim this off the air, but I can't remember a time where they, you know, where the other team has never punched, obviously it's never happened. I asked if it happened in that Philadelphia zoo wool. Nope, they did put they did punt once in that game, but the more I look at this team, does it really come down to just the talent overall on the roster? Like I know they have some guys hurt, but like they couldn't do like hunter Henry was a ghost today. They made him a focal point. They shut him down. I didn't see him open very much. So sorry. No, I was just going to say that. And I know the week before we discussed it, you think he wasn't looking for the football on that Darius Leonard interception. I agree with you on that. Are they off right now or is he just being double covered and they're sending the blitz like the colts did last week and everything's just off track for this offense right now? Well, I think the pills they know how to play the Patriots and if you're a good team and you know you play the Patriots twice a year, especially with this incarnation of the Patriots, you have to know that hunter Henry is his go to guy, red zone, wherever. I thought he was well covered. There was a play I can't wait till the coach's film comes out. I think it was in the first half, maybe towards the end of the first half. There were a few times where Mac Jones, I thought, took the check down a little bit too early. It worked for Josh Allen, but when the Patriots have opportunities to make plays they need to make them and there was one time where Mac went quickly, I think check down to brand embolden where Jacoby Myers was coming open. It was somewhat similar except Bolden was to the right, you remember the bold and interception from last week. This one was more in the middle, but a very similar type play where Jacoby Myers basically had a post from the right side of the formation that were going towards the closed end. And if Mac Jones just waits a beat longer, he has Jacoby Myers wide open. I saw Jacoby Myers was very frustrated that he didn't get the ball. It was the same as the interception last week where if Mac Jones just hangs on to the ball a little bit long, Jacoby Myers is going to clear there's gonna be like a 30, 40 yard gain and you get some of those plays with Mac Jones and this offense right now just can't afford to miss those plays. They need Mac Jones to hang in the pocket sometimes and make the tougher throws and right now he hasn't done that enough in big spots. All right, Mario Collins, coming up with Greg Minnaar to Boston sports journal at 6 one 7, 7 7 9 zero 98 5. We'll get.

"Because nobody really can figure this out quite yet. But absolutely i think it is if he decides to hold on training camp and the packers do it sometime entertain the possibility of a trade there will be suitors that step up and don't forget we don't know how training camp we'll even work out. And i'm gonna make weirdest oracle records back in two thousand eight. Chad pennington signed with the miami dolphins on august eight best season. The dolphins twenty years they went in the afc east. So you can sign pretty late and still be success successful starting quarterback certainly someone aaron rodgers caliber in that year chad. Pennington was actually the comeback player of the year. He was traded because the jets got brett farve at basically the same exact time and he had a very good season for the jets that year. So that was into august. So there's plenty of time for all of that. Sam having said that and as one who competed against rogers regularly when you played for the bears for several years. What is your sense of. Just showing up and acting like everything is fine. That's the part of this. I just have a tough time. Picturing what do you think yeah. There's no chance that aaron rodgers shows up and he's going to show up on time thing about it. I was in the nfl players association. Negotiating collective bargaining agreements with aaron rodgers. He flew he flew to go with. The owners sat in a meeting with the said. This is exactly what we want. You know one of the things that he wanted less. "That's where the money is in this draft. That's where everybody went with you, Dallas and what we saw, too, was some quarterbacks being teamed up with former receivers as you saw what the Bangles did go with him are chase over Joe borrow is something that they wanted. And so that begs the question that we that J. Actually, you brought it up over the weekend, right? You've got you were talking to Yeah, I was talking every night Eyes family thought about sick man Like college teammates being re night. Travis et en, you know, And now a situation with corruption and Trevor Laurence and starting a basketball my All right, James Worthy, Michael Jordan. Wow. Like Russell Westbrook, Kevin Love. College teammates if you could reconnect them at the pro level, the pro love to see you, and we did see Drexler Intellectual s O. That was the question on Twitter Ki jae NZ on Twitter. What college teammates in any sport Would you like to see reunited as professionals will do it as a call topic as well. And it ate, say, ESPN today, 79. 3776 so Katie says this and no, it's not my burner. Zion and R. J. Barrett at Madison Square Garden. You did that on purpose could see it. You did that for you. It was a curse on the list. You could see that you could see that. Zion was giddy about playing at the guard. By the way, when that happened when I saw Zion at the podium, and he said that about New York I just automatic I'm like I was gonna run away with the worst in New York. Nicks or New York fans, whatever worse than l. A Laker fans. Oh, yeah. You know why? Because the moment that somebody buys a house in l A. They're going to the Lakers. Oh, yeah, immediately. Oh, my God. Kevin Garner got a house in Malibu. He's coming to the Lakers. It's like who is more down with O P p Knick fans or Laker fans. Let's be honest, like your team could be great. It isn't like a star that just showed, like happens to be in the building or downtown somewhere. You like eyes. He coming here. Is he coming here like I was in Tribeca, and that could be. I think he's coming. I think he's coming. He was an avenue. He's coming. But when LeBron LeBron worry Yankee hat one time we all went nuts like they just they just happen to be a Yankee fan and a cowboy. He was always like a front runner. But just till we all went crazy. Uh, here's a great twitter handle for you guys at MC Naked 123. Oh, Good morning, Kristin Leitner and Cherokee Parks. We don't need that. Next big room Z do God Why is saying Christian Laettner? Grant Hill? How many do so later? Cherokee Parks? I'd love to a J. J Go on a lot of super Callie kid. Leave him alone. Leave him alone. I'm saying put Grant Hill in over Cherokee party groups. The 86 is Chad Pennington and Randy Moss. We are Marshall. Oh, Think. Think Moss. Won't that Anna? Probably the jet. Really? On the pro. They were prolific together in the pros. The double, eh? Is that what you're saying? No, no, no, no, I'm saying I don't think Moss wants him throwing the ball to him after he got a taste of some of those other quarterback play with along the way, Right? I'm just boiled would have been great to see you. Cold Pepper and Randy Mom, Randall Cunningham and then Tom Brady. Here's a lot with the weird one dog 2020. G A sounds made up Jake from and me call Hartmann. Take from? I think they just put that up because that Zubin burner, you know, Susan and burn account. Do that burner. Yes, Zubin loves Jake from he thinks Jake. Problem is the second coming said on our show. Multiple good. Can I throw a few out? Sure. How about this one? Derek Carr and Davante Adams. Your Fresno State right there a car can certainly not. I didn't say they were great together in college. Well, then, if yet. You want. You wanna get some numbers watching with Carl, together, No one was watching Hawaii in Fresno, stated to eight more car led the instability in completions of yards and touchdowns and Davante. Adams was the main benefactor, most receptions and receiving touchdowns in all of college football. So they were all right. Especially. We're good. I'll give you another one to wait. You know, I'm just saying, I think you better do it. I'll give you another one. About this one from Syracuse. Donna Picnic Donovan McNabb forward. Here's Marvin Harrison. Remember like that, all right, McNab past for overnight and was 2000 Yards 16 touchdowns, Harrison 56 receptions and 1100. 31 yards and eight touchdowns and alone. M U S. C. You want that liner and Mike Williams? Mike Williams is right. Look at that face. He went the gas space. I did that for you. Could you just say No? Do I think that liner could have used my pros? No, no. Yeah. Larry Fitzgerald. Yeah. It didn't work, did it? That's a good point. It was my father's USC. I probably would go weird. I love to see Reggie Bush in Lindale. In the same back fill in role. Those were bees. Same backfield way we're I was only doing quarterback wide receiver, but obviously there's other ways. You know, we're all teammates. Yeah, put anybody together. It was it was ridiculous in the backfield together. Fab 51 of the Tweets was the Fab Five in Today's MBA. You think those five or maybe the form they got in the MBA would have I found a way to become teammates. Oh, yeah, right before she like the way we are today in the NBA, where guys can sort of, like team up. Do you think it's the very least found a way how to team up in Michigan that involve driving because I wonder about the weapon, Jay Rose. They got to get along. Today. Yeah, still still trying to get those guys. I think I do believe those they have made some peace, right? I think that is the latest story, but we certainly hope so Intimate, say ESPN and 8 79 3776. Let's take Gary in Illinois, Gary I would say Matt liner and Reggie Bush. I think that would have made him a little bit better in the league together to start out instead of being so tentative. Yeah. That would have helped at all you see, is sure gonna this. She got nothing. Okay, so as he was just so deep, like Alabama at that time, you know, just players all over the place you just whether it was Dwayne Jarrett's and Mike Williams and the Tide and Fred Davis and Course in Palmer. Madeline means it's so everywhere you look, it was players, right means just both sides the ball. Okay. Our boy gourmet chef calves Patrick Holmes and Karim Hunt. Karim, Huh? Corinne? Why they weren't They? Yeah. I don't know. They were teammates and Texas Tech. No, but I mean they Kansas City, though. But the work college. That's what we're trying to start a cab. Come on, Chef cat. You? How about you? How about you If there was a guy that you wish you could have, like at the pros you could've been teammates with in college. You play with it, cause you're like, man. We would kill them. See booze? Yeah. Just let me see Bushes turn into an all star when he was a Utah I used to watch the booze cooked with Darren Williams. Well, good down. Williams used to be a great pick and roll. Pick and pop. Yeah. And I really go there get chance to do like reinvent stalking him alone. Those two because Booth can shoot it. Boost can do all that. So I would say so. I believe that he was in India Wins is more of a facilitator than you. You would just a hot dog so You know, like, why do you Why you piss me off? Oh, no, really, chaps. My I won't say but a chaps it and you know it Key. Wow. We'll continue with this very interesting conversation. A zoo. "Their offensive line's going to be so much better next year. Because turkish off ferguson. And nick mangle have a year under their and the rookies. They were pretty impressive when you say they weren't as a matter of fact. Some people thinking about voting nick mangle rookie of the year. It's unprecedented when an office of line. And get something like that but He kinda year. He had the toughest position on the offensive line. In your first year is center because you have to identify where the bullets are coming from. You got to tell the other offensive linemen who's responsible for who and do it within about five seconds spot and then snap the ball and they spend a lotta time shotgun. So you've got to be able to do that as well so i i would tell you that. They're going to be very good on offense. I think next year I'd like to see maybe another playmaking wide receiver believe it or not and and and a threat tight end tight end has got to be you. Know somebody like Antonio gates tony never find a guy like that. That certainly would help chad pennington and continue their development on offense and i love brian. Schottenheimer their offense coordinator. But i don't think we'll get an interview for any head coaching spots this year. But i think next year or the year after he will be a prime candidate. That will be probably away from the new york jets. They continue having success know. You're actually mentioned that on your show and tony gonzales. I think it becomes a free agent this year too. Maybe they just have shown of getting him to update this thing about the jets that they have the best salary cap situation. I believe of any team in the nfl. They'll be about twenty eight million dollars. I believe as i as been reported underneath a salary cap. Now if that's the case they can be very aggressive in free agency you know they're probably gonna look for those mid round mid range guys. I don't know if they'll go african hours but at the end of the day you know mike cannon bound the general manager does not get a lot of credit for this but this is one of the big things in the nfl. These days having the salary cap lex ability to go out and find the players that you desperately need short or team in the short term. Always keeping an eye on the future and making sure that you don't hamstring yourself With overspending for overage dove veterans right. Well just to quickly touch on the giants. I think fans basically of two questions and there'd be can can you. I manning the quarterback that everyone inspection to be and. Do you think tom confidence going to be back next year. Well regards that. You'll i manning. I've thought yesterday we saw the best and the worst. It'd be lying. There were times where he looked like. He had no idea what he was doing and that he was overwhelmed. Know that kind of sleepy feeling that he gets. And i think giant fans have for him when they watch him. Dan knows of degrade drive where he had to overcome numerous penalties to his offensive. Linemen make first downs found plaxico burress. On a couple of big plays and ultimately touchdown pass that tied the game in the heat of the game of the fourth quarter. So there's obviously something there we all see it. We all know it I think the big question for the giants right now is what to do with tom conflict. And i i certainly don't think that his message is resonating in the in the locker room anymore. I think it's falling on deaf ears. He's an old school coach. Old school principals which is fine but in today's day and age with these athletes. You've gotta find somebody who can get more out of him But the penalties the injuries all the things that he talked about when he took over the.

"Don't even understand how we got this job after his lack of success in Miami, I guess being around Peyton Manning is enough to get you a gig. All you gotta do is stand near Peyton Manning or Sean McVeigh. And you, too, can be a coach in the National Football League. So that job opens up. I'm not going to do the whole rant on the Jets being the jet since Joe Willie Nemeth ran off the field at the Orange Bowl in Super Bowl three. But all you need to know about the Jets is who is the second greatest quarterback in the history of gangrene. Chad Pennington. Don't tell me Mark Sanchez went back to back F C title games that was the defense and lt in the twilight of his career. Ken O'Brien, one of the old school. I think I'm making my point. And Sam Donaldson seems like he's doing all the right things, especially in the media cauldron of New York City. But he is taking a beating, and we'll talk about this in the last hour. The program when we take around the league with Eric Adam of Yahoo Sports What is the future of Donald look like because the Jets are gonna have presume with the number two overall pick somewhere in the top three. They go quarterback. And they may be goes. Think about Donald as a reclamation project now with a new head coach. We know the Jets will be opening up after that. It's getting murky. So from my good with arithmetic, you do the math. I'll do the Alfredo, but I got five openings now as a running count. Chicago's going to stick and stay with that match. Nagy. We'll see what they do with Mitchell. Travis Key. Anthony Lynn has done just enough to keep the Charger job primarily because the Spano's family is incredibly cheap. "4 to 27 to talk to you about your team when lose draw upset, Uh, euphoria, whatever way you feeling about your football team right now? Give me your insight on my phone lines like Ira from Staten Island's like he and I haven't had this conversation a couple 100 times before. Hello, Ira. Hey, Georgie. It sounds like a broken record. We just keep on talking about the same thing. It's the only 10. It's the same complaint about the coaching staff. The penalties. The questionable play Cool, and especially in the first half. It looked like they were trying to. Ah I don't know what they were trying to do in the first half, but the charges defense is not the Steelers and but they didn't throw a ball to a wide receiver until midway through the third quarter. Just I don't understand that but given credit for fighting back in the second half Close, but no cigar. Um I'm just surprised when it was 24 6 at halftime. I said, OK, this could be like a 48 13 ball games, but they fought back. But the only thing I could take out of this is we might have some promising young talent. What the new coaching said that are becoming in or benefit from it. And You know one thing I have to ask you. You know, I really believed in Donald. I think the book has been written for him with the Jets. You may get a couple of games. So audition for another team with the Jets this, you know, last down the road here. But in all, honestly You can't make the throws to Flacco makes and I'm not saying Flaco. I want him back there sure or anything like that. I think it is what it is. And when Donald comes back, I think those balls down the field that you throwing up from ins and throwing up the permanent. I don't think you're gonna see it with the island. Curious what your opinion is? It. It's eerily similar, and I'm not going to say it's an exact comparison because it's not because Donald throws it better than one of my favorite take quarterbacks of all time, and I'm pretty sure One of your favorite jet quarterbacks of all time. Chad Pennington, who was tremendous with accuracy, but really didn't have much strength in his arm. He beat you different ways. Well, when Chad Pennington and Benny Test of Ernie, We're on the jet that same time you would look him in and go. Whoa. This is not even close as to who's got the bigger and better arm. It was always many. But Chad was able to win football games in the National Football League, even though he didn't have a howitzer attached to his right arm. Darnell's got a better arm than Pennington does. But again, you're seeing a veteran guy with a big arm, Get out there on the practice field and be able outdo the younger guy that you're banking on. Going forward with that, you think can take you places. It does give you a moment to pause. I Here's what I want to know from. You are because you and I exchanged some text You were debating on whether they will even bring Darnel back for any games because if he plays poorly, it could hurt his trade value. Every doesn't play it all His value is what he is. I think that they have to play him now. I'm not suggesting they should play while he's hurt. But if he is capable of playing, I think you have to play. I think you have to play for upside here. You have to play for Donald flashing something showing a little something something toe add to the trade value. You're right. He could come in play poorly, and the value could even get worse. Can't sit on the value as is I have to give him a cancer. I want to see if he can actually be a winning quarterback in this league, and then I can ask for more in a deal if they get the number one pick, and they decide to go with a guy like Lawrence. Yeah. You know, I talked to somebody about that this morning. Who's going to know And I think I'm having a reverse change. Especially have to talking with you. I think you're right. You have to put him in after he's healthy and let him play. Um, the one thing about him and you brought up Pennington. It's Donald had Pennington smarts. And the way he played the game. We have Ah, bright future with Donald going down the road, but unfortunately, there weren't too many Pennington's and that's why I hold them as high as I do is a jet quarterback, But you're right. I I have changed my mind today, and I think the sooner better to bring him back. I just hope he doesn't get hurt and let's make sure he's 110%. You don't want him out there with 85%. If he can't play camp, like you have to shoulder still bothering him, the violence and the end of season it doesn't play. But if he gets a clean bill of health last three games last two games, whatever it is, you've got to put him out There. You gotta you staked a claim to him. When you talk in his eyes, he didn't address you believed he was gonna be good. This season is going to be in perfect for anyone to judge Get fans get him employees executives and like and whoever is going to be looking at him out there in the National Football League. It's not gonna be a perfect read, but I think you have to take the chance and roll the dice a little bit and say yes, we're going to showcase him so that we can ask for. I don't think they're going to get a first They're gonna get afraid to be a Real late first, and most teams were selecting late in the first round of pretty damn good and don't need another quarterback. So we gotta wait till the season and we got to see where the draft order falls. And if there is a pet fit for Sam Donald, but I think you need to hope that he can rise up his value the higher than what it is right now by not playing Yeah, I would agree. And listen, have a blessed and happy Thanksgiving and it looks like we're gonna be getting its magic next weekend on. I mean, it looks like tour got banged up today. So, uh, I wouldn't be surprised if Fitzpatrick is leaving leading the Dolphins into MetLife next weekend on and you and I have had up and down to Ryan Fitzpatrick if the Jets and again when we're not saying that it's something that we want to see the Jets still which is win, but I think they would have a better chance to beat for its magic than they would To us, So if that's the case, so be it. I always a pleasure. Thanks, buddy. Joining from Washington's up on CBS Sports Radio. Hello, Sean. Hello. I want to talk about the brown for a minute. Yes, they've been placed. Uh, pretty great. Especially, you know, losing mile bottom miles gear this week, um, decided definitely stepped up. Pick six. Safety. I mean, they've all out today. I mean, Yeah. Let me say one thing about that. Pick six. Uh, Shawn. I don't know you do I We're not friends, Ari. No, I would purely be guessing for the 40 words that you've used so far. "The 49ers playing the Giants and they came down from 3814 with more minutes left in the third quarter to win. 39-38. Oh, yeah. This is the weekday off Mike Mike Vick went into to Lambeau and fucking mushroom stamped. Yeah the fakirs he did. Yeah. That was that was his coming out party wasn't it down there was yeah. What was the Superbowl this year two thousand two? Oh, that's right. It was yeah Gruden bull. Yes. Whoops wrong with that offensive lineman who I'm missing. That's right likes. tough luck throughout your best and worst for this game. Well, I mean, let's let's just let's make this point clear that the the Browns had a better season than the Patriots. I mean, I think that needs to be on record here like explicitly said yes with Kelly Holcomb leaving the way. Yes, Ron had a more successful season than the Patriots. I did Jack Brown's. Yeah our brand Cleveland Browns. Yes. We are the Browns. Yeah. What a fuck dumpster bottom were successful seasons. And then the season of the podcast know this podcast is much more successful than anything the Cleveland Browns have done in the past twenty years. Like how confident you are in that take ND. I mean, we've actually probably had more Downs than they had ticket sales right above 100 good fans. Don't know nobody's going to watch those games. They want me to give it to you while I got on the top of my head here. Give me some watch the game. Yoga. You're going to take a little my side about the game. So I'm not talking. I mean, my best is Kelly Holcomb. Obviously, I mean I'm wearing his jersey and then my worst was the name Chad Pennington now they Manning. Okay. Yeah, he goes to the playoffs and just get stomped by the Jets 41 to nothing. Yeah, fourteen of 31 - 137 yards and two picks. It could have been us to tie. He's overrated is overrated choke choke artists in the playoffs wage is my favorite narrative. Oh, yeah last for so long to get the hands of the AFC East apparently. Yeah, there's not the Jets is the Patriots next two, beautiful. You love to see it while Steve doesn't do you hate Manning as much as the Jets Steve cuz I'm more of a man-hater than a jet Tater neither definitely more than a page. But I hate people. I also hate Peyton Manning after football which everyone else seems to really know. I like them. I like them now. I didn't like him when he was playing but he's grown up now always just like I hate everyone from the Jets, but see I always secretly like his commercials to like the cut that meat commercial. "Our guy on the cars might actually posted this in his article, and I thought this was really good. Hey, looked at the heat put up the blitz rate that The Broncos have seen over the last few weeks. So against the Titans note. I mean, it was top 7 39%, which is pretty high, but it was also drew locked door lock tends to do a little better against the Bloods. Against the Steelers in the Buccaneers. Yes. What the rank was in blitz rate over the weekend. One on 11 on 1 67% for the Steelers and 62%. They blitzed the Broncos quarterback. You know why You can't stop it. The Broncos Gave up what 20 quarterback hits against the Steelers. I can't remember how many they've given assembly Buccaneers. And and it was a mix of the quarterback holding it too long and the offensive line so the offensive line is money. She kind of broke down there. I think appropriately, it's got his issues those we're not gonna be fixed in a short week. Simultaneously. It is an undrafted player making his first NFL start. He got the ball pretty fast. Kind of in garbage time against the Bucks. And you know, we can't even point back to Driscoll versus the Steelers and maybe say, just out loud that Driscoll versus the Steelers was a little bit. Hey, there's no pressure on you. Because of this point, you're already trailing. Whatever you do now, there became pressure when they started to come back. Well, they game plan for lock to then game plan for this part of it. You saw the difference when Herbert came in, you know, in game planned for versus a plan for his vast difference. I'll say this, though the Jets defense Gave up over 300 yards to Josh Allen in week one. And then the next two weeks got beat up so bad. Both teams pull their quarterbacks and put the backup in McMullen's and Jacoby, Percent got run. That's how bad that defense is. Terrible. No, I'm maybe you could have the most exotic looks on the planet. But if it's not getting home is not getting home well, and and I watched that I watched that over the course of today. Remember, I spent a couple hours watching Jets today and he does. He does. Blitz will bring the safety up, but and sometimes with linebacker, But they're definitely times where he's really opened. Those those big dudes up front are going to get home. The problem for them is they don't really have the requisite speed on the back end. So so speedy receivers say like a J. Hammer, Jerry Judy in the slot he's going to face that begets pool. As their vehicle. They're gonna have good days. Like like if you could get the ball if you can withstand the immediate pressure of the five men blitzed our roads, even if they bring a six But most times, five, then I don't see any reason why he can't pick them apart if he does similar to what he did in that one, Dr Against have obey. It gets rid of the ball quickly. And if you could do that you're gonna wear out the defensive line early because they're not gonna be able to get home. They're trying their best to get up there. You know where amount just getting the ball out there That can rough you up anything. It's it's It's really I think Brett rip in for this offense is a better fit than Jeff Driskel. You don't like the West Coast offense needs quick processors to get the ball out quick. That's what the West Coast offense needs and make no mistake about it, even though Pat Shurmur goes vertical little morons Kangaroo el. Oh, that's what this offense still a West Coast offense. And the idea is get the ball out quick. A really good article from Nick, by the way in the athletic, and he kind of did a little bit of a background on Brett rip in, and it wasn't so much focused on his uncle Mark, which you'd almost think Almost any article about Brett Rip and probably is mostly has to do with Mark, but this really focused in on him and focusing on his study habits. In the way that he has approached football, his entire life and how he really does like to be. Kind of that guy. That's that's in the film room. That's that spending extra time looking at these things. And and he prides himself on. Quick release. He prides himself on being on intellectual quarterback and sometimes and I want to get in a little deeper into this conversation on this, because I think sometimes we say intellectual quarterbacks we usually Simultaneously mean guys that don't have big arms, but a lot of cases we do because usually that's what it is. Usually, if your cerebral guy that's how you stick around if you're a big arm guy you're known for the big arm. Maybe they don't count cerebral you are Peyton Manning was a cerebral guy that even the biggest arms that's right. You know, I mean, Chad Pennington was was pretty cerebral scan in Trevor Siemian, and that's I think who broke in really compares to his. He's just basically Trevor. Okay, so when we come back, I want to get a little deeper into that conversation. I think there's some fun kind of avenues. We can take on three or 3713 85 85 or four number 56 16 0. We will get some of your text as well. Broncos country tonight on.

"With. Chad Pennington, or something like that okay. Yeah, that would make sense that doesn't really sound you rooting for the jets. Even that means we get in the playoffs. That's what it ended up being I think. and wasn't great. Yes, even desperate times call for desperate measures. I watched that game at your house Andy I remember. There's something to do with the qb sneaked. Farve couldn't get and we're all fucking. That feels familiar. Let me. Guess Ryan Sawyer. Was There fucking prick? Dessert. Why do you hate Brett Farve? I never really never really liked him, but then I hated him after that. I like the way early enough always hated. ramblers real, comfortable. Back there. Is he just wants. Back Air Football He. He's one of the best to ever do it. Okay. If he actually imagine if he had like Brady's work ethic. Oh God, you would've liked the best quarterback. That's ever live. You could say that about a bunch of guys you. Know He Ryan Mallett had all the physical tools Ryan Leaf had all the physical tools. Now. Game, like Tom Brady. Maybe they would know approach like how hard they worked. This is. For. Now breath breath had way more national, skilled and Ryan Mallett. He just didn't give a shit. He's like for like hall of fame quarterback. He gave the least amount of Shit. About just like you know offseason workouts. That kind of thing, maybe Big Ben Throw. Big Ben in there. Yeah, I was GONNA say. GotTa be somebody else. Expensive candidate. Through Brett farve showed up like thirty pounds overweight to his rookie season. Zach got traded from the Falcons Yeah for sure that was like a big part of it probably yeah. So speaking of Big Ben. Did you see that? He is now unblocking people on Twitter Yeah Yeah? So. We've preemptively from the page. PODCAST blocked Ben Rothlisberger. Well you. Should I just send them picture of his own face? Coe likes. What is he going to do block? He was saying offensive. To your face. I'm real on blocking. Unblocking them cinema picture of the ugliest picture of his face that you can find, and then we may have crowd sources because I think there's a lot of ugly pictures of his face out there I know. Okay northern! Get one where he's. He's shaved half his face the. Half Beard. I think that looks good. I think you'll see a lot of people doing that in the coming years. Just like the other time I tried to start a trend with inside out. T shirts that never took off. Okay I was trying to piggyback the hipster thing of like I. Don't need like to show my brand. Right, You know, like I just three point or you're putting hard. You know, whatever. It may be right that put it all together is the ticket to golf, putting the entire rounds all about consistency, Man. Golf is all about consistency. Exactly. Look right in a couple weeks ago, he's unstoppable. And then today he goes out there the laser, you know? Yeah. No, you're right. You're 1% right? That's what I get. And I thank you for the call Mike. Look, I PGA Tour to me is as as level playing field as there is in any sport. I mean, every week. We've had five tournaments now, since they've come back from the You know the lay off with the with the virus and you've had five different witness. But five different winner every week. And just because these guys, you know, because you hate the ball four yards doesn't guarantee you're gonna win anything. No, You still got it. You know, you still got you know your short game still gotta happen. Your ire place still gotta happen. And you know you may be the organ eventually make the course is a longer for these guys because you know they're hidden in these like you said, you know, it's it's a 450 yards for four. And these guys have basically driver you know, wedge into the green. I mean, I understand that. But it's It's very difficult to win and you really, really ever see anybody win on consecutive weeks on the PGA Tour. 877337 66 66 Tony in Bayonne is on the fan. How are you, Tony? What's up? Tony's gone. Bob involved. Belvidere is onto fan. How are you, Bob? Hey, Joan. Good man. Thanks for taking my call first. So I just want to touch on. You know, I want to call in a bunch of times and talk about the jetsquarterback. You know the history, you know? By one of my favorite jets of all time is in And When you look at the history of the Jetsquarterback, you know you go back name is and I might Rub some of the old timers the wrong way Name. It wasn't even a winning quarterback. The guy had a losing record in the NFL. So my question to you is kind of like I mean, Personally, I feel like Chad Pennington, the best Jets quarterback to ever play for us, even over name is and I mean the injuries killed the guy. The guy made the playoffs. You're talking about him and her. They made the playoffs every year, Chad was helped write bad New York goes to Miami. Miami makes the playoffs the first time since With Marino and what they actually made the playoffs after they didn't make the playoffs with Jay Fiedler as the quarterback, So let's not any early two thousand's as well. So Miami, Okay, but I mean, I just want to make my point. Like just Your thoughts on it as faras. Like, wherever one thing about my back, Okay? I don't know. Did you see name is Were you around the name of the guy? I watched some of the games on NFL in that. Like what? You haven't said you were not. You were not alive to see name is when he was plowing boy. 40 years old, Okay? You remember what you just said about Chad? Penny thing could also be said about name if you're the 1st 5 years of his career when he was 100% healthy, he was a tremendous quarterback that in 1970 injury started and what's he started getting hurt. He was never the same guy anymore. He was never that same guy anymore. And it's kind of the same thing with anything. I mean, What if anything was healthy was terrific when he wasn't healthy. Well, you know, he was what he wass. So and neighbors want you want it. I mean, you want to change it when a bid way did win it. That's the bottom line if you were to stack Your opinion neighbors is about where's pennies and stack up with all the quarterback? You know yet O'Brien Richard Todd, like Where does pennies in backup with you? A CZ faras. You know the history of the whole team, probably second. Probably second way put it. I would probably put it in behind only neighbors. To be honest with you. I probably would. You know, when you look at the overall history to team like I said, a lot of guys had moments. I mean, Richard thought at moments, Kenny O'Brien had his moments. You know what? We're really talking about? O Brien O'Brien. You know you're in a lot of people even searching for that franchise quarterback. You know, Brian, he did play where he played over a decade as the starting quarterback, and yet he made some run. He did, 85 86. No doubt about it took it to the playoffs in 91 that ate eight year I I look, I mean, O'Brien was I'm not saying O'Brien wasn't a good quarterback. The problem with O'Brien is that they took him ahead of Dan Marino. I mean, that's really too probably, Yeah, I gotta and and and, and O'Brien's best games were generally against Miami. You look at his career you always played. He always got revved up the plate of dolphins of Marino. You know, Usually he reserves his best for Marino, Marino and O'Brien. If I'm not mistaken, told they have the record for Most combined yards and touchdowns in a game or something like that, some crazy game where they both grew for, like, what was the You're talking about the 1980 86 game at the Meadowlands 51 45 with the final score that game And we're you know, through 600 or something, Something like that and like six touchdowns and O'Brien threw four touchdowns in a game. I figured how many yards he threw for four touchdowns in a game. Also Wesley Walker Remember, you also had the game. You'll side that game in Ah, in 1972 between the Colts and the Jets, with Nemeth and United when you know the.

"Beautiful Damn. That's our segue back into the game. I love it. Oh. No here's a here's a segue speaking of studs. Really McGinnis is finally healthy. This is. Part of part of the the Boston Globe article stuff out reading. And it fucking shows he was ever. We had three batted balls. one of them was on fourth down so blue a fourth version. A also had An offensive pass interference called. Like four him like on him. Because, he drop back in coverage and I, think it's like cra better someone like that. Tried to light them up as the gases in the air and got called for an offense. Abaza fairs, which is Great. And then they were trying to block him on a screenplay. And he got up so quickly that as Curtis Martin caught the ball. With me get. This was already tackling him he as it might be. The worst screen ever seen, it was bad. But any also had a sack in this game I think he was the one that sacked. Chad Pennington. I think Pennington was point. By so there was a few sex, but he was. I mean we talked about it a little bit last week to where he was just kind of like. It was like watching Gronk. Play offense was watching McGinnis by defense. He's waiting through people like he's playing with with like kindergarteners, just like walking through and kind of pushing them out of the way. Just, so we can get to the bulk you use unstoppable and he gets my game..

"Super Bowl against Atlanta elements catch one I mean it's it's it is remarkable the difference between being an NFL head coach and having to end up being an NFL commentator what is good and you are Chad Pennington but he got hurt now finally you have worked at the NFL level and you worked as a commentator and a motivational speaker and you work at the college level we have all this information at the college level we know that when Pete when Pete Carroll went college to pro Herman he had three great draft because he knew all the players Michael may aka the raiders yeah he watched all these players in college goals for the raiders he has a great draft permit I could argue after this year two years you could go back to the NFL and you would know this college footprint and all these players could you recruited him is there a possibility you'd go back to pro football yeah that yes my last stand right here I'm going to build a program in hopefully we can win the pac twelve and the hope you're gonna roll balls and then hand it over to somebody else a model I haven't signed up account I'm having a blast I miss my players at this point in time you know in fact it with the virus and and look at as well talking I can't say enough about all the first responders all the medical folks all over the country all the people that that that are put in here who lives in harm's way try to save goals that that that the virus you know and it's it's it's remarkable to see when you turn the television on and watch all these doctors insist people that just continue to go on the building's going you know what I could come out with the virus although the hero problem yes although although the truth so I love that you're having a good time so it's you even like the recruiting yeah look we yeah that's that's what it really good fun right yeah would you would you would you talk to young people I like being a parent and the guardians of of of a lot of young men because you find out a lot about the family yeah you know and a lot of all right well you know I look at a minority are you I know where that comes from I get it I understand this did you have did you heard did you have a lot growing up were not much not much I mean football with my way out yeah I'm you'll be around we were going to give you an option to go to cut out the first graduate of our you know a lot of our family I mean my mom with the German war bride my father joined the army Lee what's happened here is all very fought in World War two and in the Korean War yeah slit ball got you out you went to cal didn't Georgia go home like you know right right out of high school all those hippies in herm Edwards all my god can you imagine that thank you what well yeah it was but that was not that was the highlight of it it was not wanted hippies yeah I grew up in a great hero you're talking about the civil rights movement yeah you know your actual store I told you before you go at thirteen year low low and moderate possible they had under moderate yeah look what they did you do that thing what's both be gone and I thought Jimmy Hendrix forget talk our games every has spent after death over that ninety seven of nineteen sixty eight and I'm like I what's your birthday gifts all state while a lot of people tell me about life but I have you call Jimmy at that I did the lives you had a full life my friend all right I've been I've been very fortunate I've been blessed a lot of people help me along the way takes up your good friends you know all this and and and you help me I mean when I when I when I went to work for the worldwide leader you're watching how you work and how organized you worried discipline and how you gather your thoughts I mean I watched all that you are I'm a I'm a guy always search for knowledge and you watch people at a certain professions in you you gain knowledge from them and and and you know you guys help me a lot in the end I love coming on your show and want to get you all fired up well her memory I'm by do you know where my daughter goes to school down today and and I just I'm so how proud but it's just been amazing story and continued success and I love having you on occasionally and go devils thank you bro god bless America they say pardon all right members thirteen years old watch Jimmy Hendrix burn it on stage how about that that's a that's a full life right there the guys had a full life it's amazing what's that saying get busy living or get busy dying I mean Hermas got busy living his stories are is one of the great motivational speakers yeah I've I've seen him on stage some of you have you can you to it he's really good hi joy this this is the third minute well the future of the NBA season is still up in the air and players are trying to stay in shape in case play resumes but a lot of them don't have a way to play basketball right now and Jayson Tatum even admitted that he hasn't been able to touch a basketball since his last NBA game because of the cold and rainy weather in Boston right now that was March tenth so a little over a month ago since Jayson Tatum has been able to do any sort of basketball activity yeah the company also said he doesn't have access to a hoop with the practice facilities close we know we suspect curry putting up a basket is his house took them five hours to put it up so the NBA guys are having a little trouble being able to him basketball shape at least and and get any shooting in it's it's not surprising though like I mean you don't really but if you don't have a compounds or you live in a space where you have a a big how Olson you know driveway or garage the ability to put you in your house I mean why would you you're at the practice facility all day you're traveling it's it's it's not really something isn't necessary to have in your house because no one could have expected this so it's it's really not surprising to me that a lot of guys aren't able to to get work and where would you do it no I mean veteran players obviously have more money they have probably you know studios and workout gyms but now I mean this is this is a reality is when these leagues get the go ahead from the feds that they can do it you got to have at least I mean I would I would think you'd have to have at least fifteen days of training minimum I mean think about baseball joy like pictures right let's say in fifteen to twenty thirty days you know may fifteenth baseball gets the go ahead we have to have another spring training I mean I would never have a batting cage at home so I mean I just baseball hasn't even started their season I I I don't know how baseball's gonna do now NBA hockey can go right in the playoffs but no I mean this is this is why veteran players that have home gyms in home workout facilities she JYJ huge edge for the lebron James crowd in the two in the league right and that is it is going to have to have a couple of weeks and exhibition games to get everybody at least moving again to get their bodies into a space where they feel comfortable playing you know playoff basketball the lines of said they're not interested in moving up of Matthew Stafford but that doesn't necessarily mean they won't draft a quarterback this year they reportedly had some conversations about trading down from the third spot but microfluidic that Detroit has also had multiple teleconferences with top quarterback prospects including two and Justin Herbert and I could just be you know doing your due diligence and you know taking the opportunity to talk to them either way getting a feel for them but I don't know I don't know I have this kind of lingering feeling that there's going to be a couple really dramatic moves you know there's there's not that many of the top top guys and there's more teams that could use a quarterback than there are quarterbacks in that space which could actually bump up some of the second tier guys that are available in this draft like the patriots have been in the conversation about making a dramatic move that the lions don't stay in that spot I could be a an available spot for another team to move out that that's not the dolphins so I think this draft is actually going to be one of the more dramatic drops as far as trade and and big move I cannot wait we're we're basically little more than a week away I cannot wait for I like your holiday at all no no no no I will not move from a television set for days I just absolutely love the NFL draft so finally John Kaczynski and David Ortiz are giving back to some medical workers in Boston on his online show some good news for instance he was speaking with five members of the coronavirus unit at at Beth Israel deaconess Medical Center and or tease then made a surprise appearance on the show and announced that the red Sox organization will be donating for tickets for life to be shared by the medical staff there and then five workers were taken in the quote most sanitized that boat in America to Fenway Park where they each threw out a ceremonial first pitch and ran the bases and then a thank you message was played on the jumbotron featuring a Boston mayor and Massachusetts governor and red Sox players clapping and cheering so really nice job out of prison he ended our teams in the red Sox organization giving back to the medical professionals there in Boston working in fighting the corona virus and yeah that was nice I story there think again so all the doctors and nurses medical workers who are out there helping all of us appreciate you we certainly do joy Taylor the news well that's the news thanks for stopping by yesterday Christian McCaffrey one of the most versatile and F. L. players got a massive contract he's not only arguably the best running back in the league he's one of the better receivers he's really a unique versatile player idols being of of of of the guys out there we thought we'll get it's amazing how many people in sports global sports right now can.

"No Way that just happen No Way that just happened but boy that's a great one and now when I have the same one I'll be on a different level you want to start us off Randy moss the all time great was just our colleague here now we just need to be in about one hundred less than is the wide receiver position was a guy that had a scholarship offer to Notre Dame and back in the day we know he ended up at Marshall but that offer to Notre Dame it looks like all signs are pointing to him going there and then a couple of things got in the way off the field the old planet of having that pulled out and he ends up in Marshall where he goes on with him and Chad handy to have a stellar career there for the thundering herd events and Chad Pennington excitement to going to have a stellar career there and then end up in the NFL draft where he runs smack dab into tray windows cowboys in a very roundabout way yeah the cowboys on the back end of their great decade of dominance in the nineties Michael Irvin was having some issues so Randy moss had some issues like well maybe we should steer away from that and they drafted in the top ten of the seventh or eighth overall Greg Alice men's event or North Carolina find a fine fine player had a great career who wasn't he wasn't Randy moss Regulus will not be on the NFL all time one hundred two and the worst part the cowboys it said if you're available we're gonna draft you so of course the Vikings went to Texas stadium that you're on thanksgiving day and Kevin Smith a cornerback still has nightmares about that game I think he had three or four catches all of them for touchdowns for like eight thousand yards your guys were talking about like what could have been and stuff that you know of stuff from the past we're not stuff to make a.

"Do you NFL training camps rolling out this week. In earnest we had a terrible, story yesterday, Minnesota Vikings offensive, line coach Tony Sporanos died unexpectedly at the age of. On Thursday a source, tells ESPN's Chris Mortensen Speranza underwent tests and was released. On Friday the source. Said Sperone his wife found him unconscious yesterday morning as they prepared to leave for church but could not. Revive him he was the assistant and assistant with the Minnesota Vikings for the past. Two seasons he worked for nine NFL teams over nineteen years with head coaching stints in Miami and on an interim basis with Oakland Raiders in two. Thousand fourteen he also held positions with the Browns with, Washington Jacksonville Dallas San Francisco and the New. York Jets and you may remember one of the better single season coaching jobs in, recent memory two, thousand eight the. Miami Dolphins remember they got Chad Pennington who was basically Discarded after the jets got Debretts farve there was this obviously the, the, the, New England Patriots have been a dynasty in the. AFC and have owned the AFC, east the, Miami Dolphins in, two thousand eight with Chad Pennington lost their first two. Games and then won eleven of their next. Fourteen coming off a year where they went one in fifteen that eleven. And five season for, the Miami Dolphins in two thousand eight is the only. Year in the last. Fifteen that the patriots didn't win the division and that eleven and five season is the only time in. The history of the National Football League that a coach led his team to the. Playoffs after his team won one game or less the previous year did a fantastic job with that Miami team in reading number of the tributes from. Players who played for him not just in Minnesota but, also Miami and other spots a devoted family. Man his daughter apparently just got married two weeks ago four grandchildren and so the, NFL world mourning, the loss of. A longtime assistant and head coach Tony spurlock Meanwhile in Canada Johnny Manziel has been traded can't play for the Hamilton tiger cats can't get on the field so they have traded him to the Montreal Alouette according to a TSN and reunites him with a familiar face Mike Sherman coach Manzella Texas a. and m. during his redshirt freshman season of two thousand eleven that was sherman's final season coaching the aggies I don't follow a ton of CFL football but the Alouette severity tried three different quarterbacks they have the worst offense in the l. so maybe Menzel is actually going to get a chance to, play that chance did, not exist with the Hamilton tiger, cats Johnny Manziel is. In Montreal and you're hearing time and again about, you know. What are the big issues between players and owners in the NFL is players one, guaranteed, money Owners aren't willing to give, it to them But they can look no further than the second pick in this year's draft saquon Barkley the New York Giants according to NFL media's Ian Rapoport are. Set to sign Barclay to his. Rookie deal that'll pay him thirty one point two million. Dollars guaranteed a four year deal fully guaranteed now rookies obviously have a lot less wiggle. Room than they did pre two thousand eleven the new CBA basically dictates with these guys are going to get the deal comes with, signing bonus of just over twenty million dollars and there's apparently, offset language that will keep Barclay from quote double dipping in the event of the giants. Cut him before the end of the contract and also it's worth pointing out that New York holds, the fifth an option for a fifth year which, is the case for all first round picks but it goes to show an Zeki l. fully. Guaranteed deal from the Dallas Cowboys didn't. Payments much money didn't go. As early in the draft. Is partly did there's a sticking point there Players and. Owners players want more guaranteed money owners don't want to give it to him but anecdotally they can Kirk cousins free agent Minnesota fully,.
