What Would Happen If Chabot Dam in the East Bay Hills Broke Open?

"What would happen if chicago damn cracked open an empty the lake behind it onto neighborhoods in san leandro and east oakland. It's an alarming thought. We asked cake. Ud's dan bricky. Who's reported on safety issues at california's oroville dam to find the answer. Holly and vickers kings question is a really good one because it reminds us that all dams pose risks of some kind given the nature of the job they perform holding back huge volumes of water they can turn from placid lake into deadly torrent. If unleashed all at once. They deserve very close attention. When that attention lapses catastrophes can do happen in late may eighteen eighty nine flood. Water overflowed badly maintained private dam in western pennsylvania. Triggering its collapse. A wall of water race down the valley below a century later. Historian david mccullough said. The johnstown flood was so vividly alive in the local consciousness. I grew up in western pennsylvania. I'd heard about the johnstown flood my whole life as children. We used to shout run for the hills. The damas busted little knowing what real terror is in those words. The flood wiped entire towns off the map and killed twenty. Two hundred people in california owns its own special chapter in the history of dam disasters with a tragedy that unfolded more than ninety years ago in a remote canyon fifty miles north of downtown los angeles from the day. The saint francis dam opened in one thousand nine hundred twenty six. It leaked the folks in the farm. Towns downstream used to joke. They'd see you later if the damn don't break on march twelfth nine hundred twenty eight. The saint francis damn disintegrated just hours after it was pronounced sound by los angeles water. Chief william mulholland who had designed and built the two year old structure when the massive concrete dam broke apart water raised more than fifty miles to the pacific ocean killing about four hundred fifty people along the way but those events one hundred thirty years ago in johnstown ninety some years ago in los angeles county sound like ancient history much more recently california. Got a lesson in how dangerous and costly failure of even part of a major dam can be failure ambiance spillway structure results in an uncontrolled. Lisa flood waters from link oroville and eating evacuation from the low twenty. Seventeen collapse the spillway at oroville dam in the northern sierra foothills one hundred thirty miles northeast of san francisco touched off a series of events that lead local officials to order one hundred eighty eight thousand people to flee their homes. This is not a drill. Repeat this is not a drill. Spill ways are crucial to preventing overtopping. That's what happens. When a reservoir rises over the top of the dam and simply spills over a spillway is like an emergency valve. Damn managers can open to safely release water from a reservoir bills over the top but back in february twenty seventeen oroville dam spillway began to disintegrate just as a series of winter storms dumped huge amounts of rain across northern california without a fully functioning. Spillway lake oroville rose rapidly water poured over a hillside that was supposed to serve as an emergency spillway. That emergency spillway began to fail to leading to the mass evacuation. In the aftermath investigators found the emergency spillway was ill conceived and the main spillway was badly designed poorly built and inadequately maintained. So how is should bowe damn different from all those bad dams and what does east bay mud have to say about. Chaba cracking open and unleashing catastrophe on the east bay. Simple answer to that question is that the dam would never crack open. That's jimmy yolly east bay mud director of engineering and chief damn safety officer he oversees the district twenty six times including chabad. Damn the reality is that the dams are designed such that. They don't just crack open. You will see signs of a failure if one is to occur and The dan's designs with monitoring equipment to make sure that you can see that happening if it was a east bay mud confidence that a dam built within a quarter mile of a dangerous fault will stand up to violent shaking. Let's take a look at how the dam was first built. Nearly one hundred fifty years ago and how it's been maintained since

"And for the Jewish residents in the home. It was Friday late Friday afternoon, and for the Jewish residents in the home in the home. They put on a kind of brief Chabot You know, Sabbath welcome the Sabbath kind of service. And it was normally done by a Jewish staff member at the home. But they knew I was visiting. They knew who I was. And so they asked me, would you? Would you please lead the little Friday afternoon service for the residents on your father's floor? Of course, I agreed. And then this woman handed me an inflated balloon. And I said, Well, what is this for? She said. Well, you you hit it to one of the residents and whoever catches it That person is their turn to engage with you during the service. You can ask them to sing or clap their hands or say their name or whatever it is it just it helps him stay focused and engaged. So I took the balloon with me and I went into the multi purpose room where there were about 20 people. Mostly. So hard for me mostly, you know. List. Listen confused and to see my father. And to recognize He actually belonged there at that point. So, you know so painful. And but I put on my rabbi persona and my my act. You know, I know how to talk in front of elderly seniors, and I know how to talk in front of three year olds. And so I am. By the way, it's the same stick and on both ends of that spectrum. You have to be you know, you just You're broadly You have to be loud. You have to be funny if to be energetic. So I did all of those things. And then and I was hitting the balloon to residents and I hit the balloon and my dad caught it. It just broke my heart. Yeah. That he was so childlike. And And I got through it. But after that service I went out into the hallway. And I just broke into tears. I'm not a big crier. I was I was just destroyed by that experience. And it was a bad moment that I realized that my father's impending death. Wasps. Forcing me To reckon with the difference between the rabbi and the sun. And that I was going to end up as a result of this much more the sun than the rabble. That's where it really all began. And there were so many times when that happened, you know, shaving my father. Writing my father's eulogy. I've written literally, without any rabbinic hyperbole here, probably 1000 eulogies. None of them. Where as a son So I had this experience of how am I going to approach this eulogy? Am I going to approach it as the rabbi? Or Am I going to approach it as the sun? And because it was a 10 year journey from rabbi to son. I knew I knew the answer to the question was I am the son here? And and the eulogy was purely Words of a son. And I'm so grateful that I had made that transition that there was clarity in that decision. Um There were there were there were many times when I had to go back and forth when medical decisions had to be made. When I when I used my rabbi clarity That I've used so many times and you know, in the E, R and the ICU with a family saying are what we're Is what we are contemplating here for him. Going to prolong his death, or is it going to prolong his life? Because if it's going to prolong his death, that's cruel if it's going to prolong his life. Let's let's try it. And, you know, answering that question as the sun versus the father, you know, versus the rabbi is a different experience. So the whole book is about these these points where these parallel lines intersect. And where they remain parallel, Um and and at the end. I would say that I am most grateful for the fact. That I was able to be the son. Hmm. I just I keep hearing this part of you, the one that had to write more than 1000 eulogies. And This was the time you wrote One is a son because it's so easy to speak philosophically about death and to think we have the right words. But I feel like there you are thrust into such a deeper level of feeling and emotion into the situation. Yes, and you also know Whether or not you're really telling the truth when I write a eulogy for someone I didn't know. Or didn't know well, which is often I am relying on the viewpoint of everyone I talked to during what I call the intake process. I sit with families. I sit with the Children and the grandchildren in the spouse and You know the brothers and sisters and My job is to relay their perspective, their points of view accurately. And then I know I've done a good job. Don't really know if I'm getting to the essence of that person. I know I'm getting to the essence of other people's views of that person. When it comes to writing a eulogy for your own father. You know, in the deepest part of your being. Whether or not every single word is the truth. And that's difficult. And in this process you're making. I know some very deep Complicated decisions about prolonging life and not prolonging life. And this is a profound and very, very difficult issue. Which is something you take up in this book. You You talked about a little bit a minute ago, but Can you say more about that journey that's going on at the same time? Well, I think what you're referring to, um, is Chapter four in the book. Which is which is about my experience in an assisted suicide. I mean, let's call it what it is. Where I Really felt the sting. Of the conflict between Rabbi and Lack of a better way to put it. Human being. Not that rabbis aren't human, but They're bound to a certain set of beliefs and practices. But you're not always consistent. With Their own personal beliefs. I mean, it might be. It would be nice to say, Oh, we're completely aligned. You know, there's no lack of alignment between me and what a rabbi is supposed to represent. But this was one of those moments where there was a very clear conflict. So just to Help all the listeners get on the page with us. I was called to the bedside of a woman who had a LS and was really suffering and lost. Her ability to speak couldn't really move much had had from an outsider's perspective. Almost no quality of life and before she lost her ability to speak. She told her husband that when she gave him a certain sign, she wanted him to reach out to me and have me come and grant her permission. To take the medication, which is legal in California after going through an appropriate process to end her life..

"We can put them towards a streetcar and And then my money was appearing magically from from all sorts of different places around City Hall so they could get up to that $200 million that we spent on this absolute disaster. So we got all this federal cares. Act money. It was a good. Oh, yeah. Okay, That's it. That's it. You got toward Corona virus and police and all kinds of emergency things. But they felt that my colleagues found out a way to deplete the police money and put it toward the streetcar. And then to use that cares Act funding so then, still in the money for the police, So we're kind of dancing around. We're not really using the cares money what? It's meant to be forward kind of shipping money all over the place. Oh, that is only going to be in effect for 60 days And then they have to bring forth an ordinance making it more permanent to shift around money like that. So coarse I will be voting No on that. So, Benji son, let me ask you this if I was to go downtown, which which I do go downtown from time to time and then ride the streetcar which I'm not going to do which I've never done. And I have. No, I have no need to ride the streetcar anywhere. If I was going to do that, and I got on the streetcar would I have to pay a fare to ride from, you know, down at the banks to over the Rhine? There's no fair right now Free because nothing's really free because we're still paying for it. It's just the writers are not paying. Well. Of course it's not free, right? And and and so and so you could go ride the streetcar right now and pay nothing. How does that How does that solve any of your taxes? You are paying for it, But you're not paying a fee into the ticket. What an absolute mess and all this is being done. Because if if what if we don't keep the streetcar running for a certain amount of time for what? I think another five years out, then then the city has to pay back the federal government a big a big chunk of money. Right. But Steve Chabot, inbred wind strips have told a few of us. I just talked to Steve Chabot about it last week. I said, Would you be willing to ask the president? Forgive our giant Grant money and he said, Absolutely. I heard Savitz saying that about six months ago and nothing has happened on that well, he said, Before I asked the president, he said, I want a city council. To vote for me to ask the president, he said. I don't want to ask him if that's not really what City Council on. So he said. If everyone City council wanted me to ask him that I will, all right, but they don't. Yeah, well, it's just it's just more Pamela. And frankly, I'm a little disappointed in Steve Chabot for not taking the lead on this. But ah You know, I I like the guy, but on this issue, I think he's distractible. So that's the love. We've got to run. I'm late for a break again. But thank you so much for spending some time with us here today on Labor Day. It's great talking to you as always, and there's so many more topics we get hit on. But I mean, it's just you know, it's absolutely unbelievable. Tell me why tell me why you put the pictures of those homicide victims on your tweet last week. Because I think it makes it really when people actually see that, um, I think it makes people understand why we need police officers out there. Why? We shouldn't be from the police. Why It's important to have Public safety and people out there investigating and being proactive and preventing homicide. I don't think people understand that police actually do prevent crime. I keep hearing this narrative that all police do is investigate things afterwards. The only way to fix things beforehand. It gives the social service agencies and I would argue that that's not 100% true. Police are proactive. They should be proactive. Yeah, You know, I spent a few minutes looking at that and and you look at each individual face and it's just hard to get your head around it that every single one has gone well beyond what their families must be going through. Being told that police should be out in the communities getting to know everyone and being more community oriented, but that is proactive policing. That's what that is. But at the same time, the same groups are saying We don't like proactive policing because that's just police hassling us and charging us with crimes that we're not guilty out. So I just don't think that's true. All right, Betsy sentiment great talking to you. We'll do it again soon. All right. Thank you very much. Alright. There we go. "As we continue with congressman Steve Chabot it was one of the impeachment managers during the include thank Clinton impeachment what a different time that was which leads me to the question I was discussing with Republican leader Kevin McCarthy and that is okay the Senate's role is to have a trial the house has the sole power to impeach Senate doesn't have the power to impeach have the power to convict now when they bring over this pathetically weak case you mentioned for example the obstruction article well when there is a conflict between the executive branch of government and the legislative branch of government well our founders or framers it you know all were very clear that remedy could be sought the court well they didn't want to wait for the court to decide on the issue of executive privilege well that's their choice they they felt their case was so compelling that it need to get these other witnesses now they're trying to get the Senate to do their job which is our cases pathetically weak maybe the Senate will pressure them to do it for us and they can call witnesses that we didn't call ourselves I would say the Senate absolutely should not do that if they want to call the one fact witness in the case as per the federal rules of evidence the one fact witness was ambassador silent everybody else it's in the hearsay is not admissible in a in a federal trial of fact witnesses can be used but frankly their opinions adjust their opinions I can get opinions on all side all sides of the so my question is what about the Senate and this idea that they should call witnesses new witnesses yeah when I attempted to send it out to make that decision just as it was you know twenty years ago in the in the Clinton impeachment and from everything we hear the Senate at this point will essentially let both sides present their their cases as you indicated Sean on at least from the Democrats side they presented all the witnesses they wanted they wouldn't let the president present the witnesses said he wanted for example as you indicated earlier this whole thing started with hunter Biden and his activities his behavior in Ukraine yet they keep saying all others there's no there there well let's see if there is so if you're going to call witnesses against the president let's make sure that you allow the president's side to call witnesses as well but that's a decision for the Senate to make and when it appears as if the Senate is gonna want both sides present their evidence and then make a decision as to whether witnesses are necessary at a later point in the trial now whether that's actually the way they'll do it or not you know depends upon how the Senate votes it just takes a majority in the Senate make that decision now back in the Clinton impeachment they actually got together Trent Lott and Tom Daschle the leaders on both sides and came to a hundred zero agree on how the trial ought to be handled and finally said this will likely start next Tuesday said he's going to follow those rules I do have to let you go only because of the constraints of time but congressman honestly what what a powerful case you have made about how different this process is now and how corrupted is and how it lacks fundamental fairness to process are in any any any reason or common sense because those same people that want to do this to trump ignore you're not getting the billion dollars unless you're fired the prosecutor investigating my zero experience on that is beyond intellectually dishonest lacking reason common sense and I appreciate you telling everybody give everyone a heads up and windows view into what's going to happen because this.

Congress we welcome back to the program thank you for Abby back John I appreciate it I want to give a little long introduction here and I want you to take the ball and run okay we know they've been out two pieces present I've I've played montage is congressman from twenty sixteen to all through twenty seventeen hold through twenty eighteen all three twenty nineteen the media mob and of course the Democrats impeach impeach impeach goes on aid that this has been their goal they've done nothing for the American people Nancy Pelosi actually announced an impeachment inquiry before we knew anything about the phone call with Zelinsky the transcript was ever released she criticized the call in question before she ever read the transcript G. authorize the impeachment without a vote they gave no due process no consideration whatsoever all of the considerations fairness due process the new Gingrich Republicans gave Bill Clinton in the ninety eight nine none of that was given to Donald J. trump we did the single most corrupt compromise congenital liar guys been we've got all the evidence of trump pressure collusion our guy by the name of Adam Schiff they had this all up ship runs an audition sham investigation auditioning witnesses trying to grow in their testimony selectively leaking the material to shape public opinion there's only one fact witness and that would be a **** or song when everybody else was the hearsay or a opinion witness the so called whistle blower turns out not to be a whistle blower but as we find out it was hearsay and that apparently there was some type of coordination contact that was first denied by ship which ships office in the hearsay whistle blower the only fact witness is exculpatory for the present anyone's nothing no quid pro quo they passed to be S. articles of impeachment they're in a rush to do it with a sense of urgency is we've been playing over and over again and then they the urgency is all okay knowing on vacation and now we're just going to withhold it and we're gonna we're gonna tell Mitch McConnell what they should do when this the house of representatives has the sole power to impeach the Senate runs a trial now it's all backfired walk us through what happens from here okay so you have done before I start a fabulous job of educating America because every point you make it a hundred percent true the only thing that would add to it that you had Jerry Nadler campaign for the position of chairman of the Judiciary Committee it is always the responsibility of impeachment with a final vote goes on the basis that he'd be back burn peach but you had new freshmen come in and get sworn into office and that night telling their group that they're going to teach the mother never all that said this is two and a half years of everything they've been doing they don't care about facts so what happens next tomorrow we'll have to Congress will have to pass what is called may editors there the prosecutors they're the ones who brought this forward and speaker Nancy Pelosi will name inside the Clinton there were thirteen but this is where the difference will lie because Clinton had a fair impeachment meeting his attorney could be there they could announce the witnesses that they wanted to come they could cross examine and it all happened in the Judiciary Committee and so it was thirteen people did the work one have to be like a granny that have Steve shattered on he was one two Sensenbrenner and they went over to the Senate because US house in person correct here is where impeachment happens and in the Senate is were they decide is the case married or not they are the jury yes the name a number I don't know how many she's gonna name there's no tying to how many he's gonna go but I will guarantee you should have Adam Schiff issue of people from Intel should have judiciary to try to pick all different makes within her a conference not quite sure who is going to be the leader of it but that's what they bring forth on the floor once that goes to the Senate then the Senate has rules and this is where I think Mitch McConnell has been very mark and fairness where they had to close his so wrong in such hypocrisy which email she wanted to move and remember she made that announcement she waited forty eight hours and that transcription never would move forward she never could before but in there that's what I sent her the letter you played it to all your listeners and viewers before I took the ten points Bill Clinton got the things that are there in American judicial system and this is where Adam Schiff should not even be a part of it he told us that he started this all with the idea that he had a whistle blower he was fearful that the administration would stop this person from coming forward if you were a federal prosecutor and you have a witness like a whistle blower they have to actually confront they're going through and the trial they cannot move to it he never brought it forward he lied and said he didn't know them that makes it a fact witness so he's the judge the jury and hit stop people from even answering questions but he will be involved they will make opening statements on the Senate side Mitch McConnell has got now gotten fifty one votes to have a fair process over there meaning that it will be the Clinton style impeachment right do you have a fair process going forward in the past it was a hundred percent but everything was done by unanimous consent the vice president who's the president of the Senate will not oversee the Senate why because if someone was being impeached the vice president the next person in line for the job you did have an impartial person even though Adam Schiff gets to be there who's impartial even though people on that jury you take COBOL Heris there are a number of senators in this position was back in October November said she would impeach the president for any impeachment process started or anything else so the jury's already painted which in American judicial system would never be allowed to they cannot have their phones they cannot talk they've got their chairs and I gotta go six days a week the chief justice will will provide they will write questions down if they have on the GPS is will become up and they will he will ask them in that process I believe that I have opening statements what happened in the Bill Clinton and it's fifty one votes is always the magic number here remember the make up so if the Democrats all stay together real take full Republicans to go change the course I do not believe they should have any new witnesses the house had all the power that's the real witnesses come they did not allow the minority to have witnesses are held they have their case the the war of the Senate if the judge the case based upon what the house put forth and they did all the trials they did let every else why do you have to open anything else up they don't do that in the judicial system the jury doesn't or others they should hear the arguments and make a decision and we should be able to afford but there will be other business going on and this is the real telling little story because a lot of people wonder why Nancy Pelosi get all this why would he say that he would it would have to be so fast they wanted to impeach this president we know what the Senate for two and a half years all the cases you make are true but this is what you don't really quite realise we were third is the Iowa caucus I think history will show on I could be wrong but anyone comes in within the top three normally becomes the nominee remember four years ago what they did to Bernie Sanders the night before the DNC convention the nominating convention the chairman of the committee Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigns why because truth came out and showed they had cheated take advantage to Hillary Clinton the Democrats have something called super delegates which is their insurance policy of people to get a vote not just those who won in the process going forward well that's the way that Hillary one it got so bad that they remove the super delegates on the first round this time well if you're one of the four senators who are running for president you are now a disadvantage because six days a week you have to be sitting over there in the chair you can't be on your phone you can't be doing anything else and by her holding it if he the Senate is now taking it up next Tuesday that's thirteen days away from Iowa who's advantaged Joe Biden who does the establishment one another's they're back to doing the same stuff to Bernie Sanders that they have done before during chaos and then we have a jury that's already pre determined what they want to do with this president without listening but there are no facts in marriage to this case if you took the two articles in which the impeached from every president that had already been in office would have been impeached this I think Jonathan Turley who's probably one of the most respected constitutional attorneys yeah thank you didn't vote for president trump he's not a Republican but he said the only abuse of power if the Democrats move forward with this they're abusing the president and those who want to call from going to the courts from the three branches of government have a say whether they come and for Nancy Pelosi to have this hypocrisy of thinking she could dictate it in the Senate because of it anywhere they are there's no way this would stand and this is the fastest tennis the beach with history of America and I'm telling you it's an embarrassment I want to ask this question because said that and this is this is a very very key important question it is the sole power of the house of representatives to impeach now the Democrats without any reason have done so now it's the role of the Senate to hold the trial their obligation I think is to protect the Senate uphold the constitution of the United States do their constitutional duty it is not their role in the Senate to do to make the case for impeachment because the house didn't make it and for any Republican to sign on to that with new witnesses and we'll try and figure it out you guys messed that up there's nothing here to impeach mom but will to me over steps there are thirty and yet there seems to be the Mitt Romney's overall I like they're from John Bolton well I like they're from John Bolton John Bolton for years I like John Bolton I highly recommended him to be working for the president and I know they had different foreign policy views but I knew we had a lot to offer and he's a patriot and that to me is repugnant because it's not their job to clean up this mess they've created meeting the house meaning the Democrats meeting your colleagues on the left you were a thousand percent correct in what they need to do I guess at the very beginning because maybe this doesn't happen all the time understand what your rules are in the Senate is not to go make another case that has already happened if the judge the.

House debates impeachment of President Donald Trump ahead of historic vote Wednesday

"House speaker Nancy Pelosi says president trump's actions have left the house with no choice but to act on impeachment the democratic led house will vote today on whether to impeach tribe if the vote passes a trial will happen in the Republican led Senate sometime next month in the raid on the house floor along clear party lines democratic members of Congress arguing for the impeachment of president trump Republicans against Democrat Steve Cohen of Tennessee saying it's the Republicans moral vacuum that's to blame for the issue before Congress like all of you I took an oath to support and defend the constitution I urge my colleagues to abide by that oath and stand up to president trump's abuse of power and obstruction of Congress but Republican Steve Chabot had a word for impeachment today house Democrats are pursuing a wacky constitutional theory under which all four presidents on mount Rushmore could have been impeached this is all part of six hours of debate leading up to a house vote to impeach president

"Of impeachment they just went through Ohio congressman Steve Chabot is on the Judiciary Committee he voted no on both and just yet so we are just now getting word out the Judiciary Committee that they have voted on the articles of impeachment that will now be sent on to the full house where of votes is a likely expected next week yeah this is really nothing nothing new I knew we knew they're gonna come back with these two particular articles to go to the house presumably where it's gonna pass along party lines as well and ultimately the Senate to is well AT and they're they're done actually just wrapped up just now I think right yeah it's on this was the the final moment after hours and hours and hours of those they spent pretty much all night that night they were going late I I'm not sure how late they what they were going after I went to bed yeah right it was late I'm looking at the while they're still they're still do this all right Jack in the news and thanks again buddy appreciate the update on I think it's interesting to about real quick your forget them I guess it and that is that is Donald Trump who is like the ultimate topper because as this is going on is there actually voting on it it's great it's a committee thank of the articles of impeachment they announce a trade deal with China and the Dow now is well it was her to a separate now is up well over a hundred points at last check here too but as soon as they broke the markets went nuts and you know it and one thing that if you got to give okay if you're the the biggest Donald Trump pater you still got to give the guy ups because of his ability to to steal the narrative which he does better than anyone I think I've ever seen in my life because you think you got a big story what's that so as there are voting on earth is a beach when he comes in with a announcing to the China deal would you would you think he's talking to China got a can you just hold on just a few I'll I'll let you know when we're going to answer this it's gonna be when they're voting on the arms of the patriot justice have you got a big news story watch this and in the market to go berserk as the end result so it's really a really funny thing to say anyway if it wasn't so serious with impeachment and that that and again you're looking economy look at the Dow people I talk to them for hours at a function last night talking to people they're like yeah you know what I my business is doing really well might my investments are doing really well I've got extra money to spend my retirement fund my four oh one K. looks good bit broke I don't keep it go and I don't care so that's it and that's really what's going to be the top row for Democrats especially the bad candidates that they have the flood candidates that they have is trying to sell the American people we need a massive change because guys so corrupt you know it the end of the day it's about our self interest so anyway we got up those stories going on today are as I said we've got other things happening to as well this is the a a schedule discussion we're gonna have here they're a talk with the Greg Lawson is a research fellow Buckeye in Sidney offered a testimony the I'll hire house and why it would save us time and money if we renew driver's license ID cards in the state every eight years instead of every four years it's interesting Greg Lawson from the Buckeye institute and the hearing centers dot com online in the scuffle show great good morning how are you well thanks for having me sorry got buried there during all this breaking news right now but just kind of a big day right in in this is kinda now little minor star but I think it's interesting because we go every four years we all dread going to the department of motor vehicles going to the Ohio BMV standing in line for an hour hour and a half waiting and making sure you know even if you have all the paperwork in front of you and then sometimes you don't you gotta go back and get in it's a real pain in the **** and I don't think there's anyone listening to what like to renew their driver's license every eight years but I I can make a case and go Hey we should have more frequent renewals because people are bad drivers but those two things are not not actually going in hand in hand so what is the push for eight years is just convenience yes there is but it's it's convenient for the fact that you can save money in in this case the fees will be saying you save us five like that like a dollar cheaper they they they basically if you can do the eight years so you can voluntarily choose new year's you you basically pay or would really cost three years license one dollars or a little bit of savings there but the real savings comes from the fact that you don't have to go and waste an hour hour and a half of the time I mean this is not something that you mentioned this is something people dread doing and depending on where you are and when you're having to go head to bring in your job situation and and and hours of you might have to work you may have to go in as a huge long there you're spending time you're losing potentially money that you could be earning at your job sitting there was one of those you know little numbers that objective locker this is the convenience saying it will save time it will save money that allow to be in these to be able to appropriately deal with staffing size over time as well which could be also very helpful in the key thing here is it's not a radical concept twenty four states either have it your renewals everybody at war has the option of an eight year renewal if you want to do it Kentucky and West Virginia have eight years on our borders and actually in the end of six years so not quite a year for their more we are as well so this is something again other states have done that nearly half the nation on the have the year at least as an option if not the mandatory has to be done at the eight years so this really is but the higher in that and it it will be good for consumers to make life easier but ultimately is is going to get down to a a issue and it at bay a a race issue as well as a class issue in that if you do it every years is active people last opportunity to register to vote is you don't I'm saying is because I think that's gonna become a component inactive before what's that I I I I had not thought about that before I I wouldn't think that it is going to be at the end of the day you probably could six he said he really wanted only do it for four years you could go ahead and do it to the leaders of the option so you have the ability to do it so I think that that I don't think that's going to be a huge issue you never know political environment that we live in being go these days but I I would think that most people would recognize value is I can say yeah but it won't be that it'll be Greg is you know what what what the facts are and what the argument are two different good don't let the facts in the way of a good a good argument it'll be well here we go we're trying voter suppression again in Ohio because every four years that's all we hear about is voter suppression in trying to prevent people from going in exercising of voting corrupting the vote in meanwhile it's not really going on all that much in either side but the argument will will easily be is okay if I if I go every eight years and four that's less chance for people to go and register to vote and now somehow your district distant franchising people it's about disenfranchisement Greg that's that's gonna be the argument well there there's always creative arguments and people want to make those that they don't do that because it would be a real shame to see arguments of that nature get involved in something that's really just a kind of a good government kind of good government the people time kind of deal so I'm hoping that that doesn't happen so far I think it's got a pretty decent chance of of being passed into law we'll see what happens it in you know these accounts and good government that's kind of funny it is as big a lot of this stuff it's it's not the stuff that's gonna you know change everything overnight and and make a lot of the best place ever but it's one of those small things when you look around you say Hey hobbies other states are doing stuff like that right and all why can't Ohio do it in this is an example where Ohio can just join sort of the crowd a little bit and get something done to help people out Greg Lawson from the Buckeye institute testifying before a high house regarding changing the driver's license renewal time from four years to eight years go every acres are the number for it certainly seems a lot of time from standing in line and everything else because then you get to to register your car through the mail or online like I do and and it's a hell of a lot easier than going to the the B. M. V. it's something everyone dreads every four years up in the grand scheme of things though you know you can make a case to Greg Hey listen my picture changes like for example if I'm a new driver I'm sixty years old between sixteen and twenty one my face can change a lot right alike wise I think you had a stage your age were okay I don't age all that much and then all of a sudden people of a certain age sometimes you know fifty or sixty or whatever they age a lot and then you hit a point where you're AT and you could be look the same when you're a hundred and twenty years old if there's he's Abin flow of the of how your face changes right what about something like that is that gonna be prohibitive to really identify people by facial features if if we're doing it every eight again I don't think so I think that from the general sense of the so many states starting at least offer this as an option I think if there were significant problems out there those would have already been encountered and somebody would have been making the case that actually works that and the states that already had it something that the case there I will say I do I I should point out one thing is I believe when you hit sixty five get back down to the four years all eyes in their bid and and one of the reasons for that is just concern over and is there a potential that the driver could have some issues that could lead them to perhaps lobbying one is as safe as they need to be that meeting to maybe make sure you there is an issue you can take the test or something like that hi I agree with that yeah I think that and I just had someone I think earlier in the week or maybe late last week where in Ohio they could do a governor wind put this the actions you know Greg where we're gonna have these testing stations every BMV every in Ohio that will allow you to go in a sense it's a it's a simulation like a computer game basically too for those who are just getting their license to work on their skills and they have different scenarios built a much like the driver's ed things that we used to take back in the day only it's it's a lot easier to at the drivers at station the BMV itself and you go and you sit there with their scenarios the challenge you and it shows you what you need to work on and I said that to me that's a precursor to test if they're gonna put this in every BMB station Ohio to say Hey when you're older at sixty five we're gonna start retesting you would be just as easy for those folks to make sure they can actually handle the vehicle and make good decisions behind the wheel I kind of see that common where do you stand era from from your standpoint at the Buckeye institute where you're a free market independent think tank at that seems to me to be a a reasonable way to go with this considering how many people we see behind the wheel or older and it seems like all the time we finds people who have dementia or of the elderly who are off wandering around at their own detriment that seems to be an easier way to stop these people from renewing their driver's license and ultimately getting on.

"Of cool benefits there and if you have a sizable social media following re tweet of a link to the show anything like that all of that is very much appreciated in really helps us along. We hope you have yourself a weekend. We'll be back the next publishing gene on Monday. I'm at I'm at jungle. Jerome on twitter. Drop me a line Stevie at Jungle Jerome and I'm insert reading some of their stuff on Air Steve Window okay though I like it. You can say anything you want. Steve my final thought today I think Patrick Line is done in Winnipeg. You know he's he's is a holdout. It's twenty one year old. There's nothing worse. Steve for a hockey player. When your teammates begin to speak out against you right where they sorta. I rolled in in an interview when you hear that this guy has gone public say I wanNA play with the best players on my team. Never heard that before never heard a guy say that well he's holding out he he may not if it stopped there but the coach Paul Maurice Ways in yesterday in an interview and give this sky the troll Stevie the barb when interviews they're asking Paul Maurice about this thing and he says did he wants to play with the best players yeah him and every coach Steve. You get the coach speaking out against you. I think you're toast. I I think you're toast might be true of an older guy. Maybe not that good Patrick. Line is an elite goal score. Who's like twenty twenty one years old and he's a big part the jets core he's a I I would tend to disagree because it just because of the skill level and the and the youth any did reach out to some of the teammates that he kind of inadvertently through under the boss by saying I'm not playing with the best players ought to be the first line well how the guys that he was playing with last year feel that would be Centerman Brian Little for example and he said everybody earlier today that line a contacted him this week and he said he texted me and asked me to call him so I called them up chatted. He was saying sorry and apologizing for the way it was interpreted. I kind of understood before even talked to him. I know Patty well enough to know he's not someone who's going to purposely say negative things especially about his teammates. Honestly I look at that is a bit of a Yadda Yadda Yadda. Because of course you're going to say that in a team building sense you're not going. I WANNA stoke the fire on this thing. I think the reality is if you're Brian Little. You're saying the right things to the media but you know in your heart of hearts your a little pissed off with a guy and I think you always welby. I get the retraction but it's like someone who's really drunk. Steve Okay and they snap on someone and they start Tim Barris themselves and then the next day go sorry. I didn't mean that I was drunk. I'm like well if you could see a video of yourself. Sure sounded like you know so so anyway. It'll be interesting. It'll be really interesting to see what happens with Patrick Lining no-doubt okay. We sparked up a conversation after saying goodbye to everybody so let's say good-bye. Everybody buddy goodnight everybody. We'll see you. Today is a great day for the Ottawa Senators fans in our community..

"Let's get the new intro here for God's Sakes. Why don't you introduce this show today. Hey all you little penguins out there. Yeah we got you know. Turn the computers on okay. I'll do it then welcome to the show as your daily early blast of sports and whatever big stories today Thomas Chabad resigning in Ottawa. It's the sign I think that a lot of sense fans have been waiting for and the Prime Minister of Canada and his history of racist makeup got a Web poll. We've got a call from our listener hotline from a guy who used to bring us egg rolls in the studio. We love that guy remember at warns Super Trivia and so much more episode one twenty-one and it's assisted on the play by Jim Kaye Ford rb computing all Insurance Ontario Popeye supplements. That was a freaking grady intro buddy that good we should launch in Kosovo. I WanNa talk a little bit about as well this this twitter trolling experience you had yesterday but I I want to begin with Thomas. Shibata real quick. It's huge news eight by eight years eight million dollars per season and I think that sends fans. They're all reacting really positively. 'cause everybody's been looking for that sign right. This is an organization that blew out Air Carlson and mark stone and Mac Duchenne. They've been in a really tight with a Bach across the organization not just on their player payroll. You know the coach the executive team the scouting. Everybody's like this this guy's not spending the money it takes to be a competitive team in the NHL but they did say in two thousand nineteen this year that they're going to start spending that money by twenty twenty-one. They'll be any other cap. They're saying but nobody could take it seriously until he showed them something talking about Eugene Melnyk while today the organization did show the sense fans something we saw little glimmer of the sincerity back when they signed Colin White a few weeks back but today was the big fish and they landed the big fish Asia and I think that's really going to change a lot of minds around the city of auto. I don't know that it's a full buy in yet but I think people are pretty pumped today about this news so so let's hear from Thomas Chabad will be an Ottawa senator for the next nine years but first. GM Peer Dorian. We're going to be good. We're going to be competitive. I think this year we hope to surprise people we're going to be in the pack and getting as many distractions away and letting US play hockey that's counsel's. I think that's what our fans WANNA see. They want they. They don't want to worry about other things. They just want us to see this play hockey and now the Thomas is GonNa play hockey on Saturday with his new partners i-if yeah yeah I mean there's something for sure that I'm going to be celebrating with my family and we obviously this is I mean. This is a life changing thing something. That's it's kind of a pretty amazing. Obviously I'm very happy I'm like I wanted to mention earlier. I think it's something that I think I you you. You really gotTA think Mr Melnik for forgive him there. Portuguese that'd be here. be be part of this team. obviously this. Is this something great. I'm very happy to be part of the Centers for the next nine years. I'm looking forward to it yeah. That's that's been the talk you know what he's been coming over quite a few times thinner and but no for sure yeah yes part of the family so sends defensemen. Thomas Show bought and talking a little bit Sarah Brady Could Chuck and Obviously Shibata and Colin White Roommates. They're tight with CA chuck. Absolutely no doubt now that could chuck is going to get done men. It's a great day for sense fans. You know what I agree with you one hundred percents when I think back to the shows that we've done over the last several months I've always had this opinion and take that Ottawa's not in the game you know. They got nothing going there flat. They've they've. They've not signed anyone. I even and he's a great guy. The deejay Smith and I wish him all the best in the world you don't because I'm a I'm a sense fan and I said but why do they have to be a training ground for new coach. The owners you know got that got all kinds of people piling up against them in the fans and even front office stuff and all this and I always said you gotta get in the game. You know go sign a big guy. Go make the deal so I agree. I agree with the auto on. I'm really happy to see that as a fan. I love that I love what it's going to do for the fans. Hopefully it certainly has for me. It certainly has for me because leading up to that today or two days ago before I heard this. It's like man you know. There's just there's just nothing happening with this team. When are they going to jump in to the fold and act like an NHL team and do do something like other clubs are doing so good on Mount St and Melnikov everything else like two times in the last three days. We've gotten word of him being involved in some kind of financial dispute this Connecticut Casino Suing Melnik for nine hundred thousand dollars and then we hear yesterday late last tonight. That news broke that there was some kind of an issue with on an airport hangar. That's got his private jet and isn't willing to release it until until he pays off a debt so these are the negatives that are creeping into the situation. It was like Oh my God when i read that it was not again and then before I was even able to react to that this morning when I woke up with a coffee then came the news of Thomas Chabad and and that's absolutely huge across the board and I think I've been as critical of Eugene Melnyk as anybody because and I think fans there well within their rights to complain about this guy because he's been running gong show for two years at least and the fans. Have you know they've they've continually lectured him on. The things he needs to start doing is in. NHL owner well today started listening a started actually doing them that he's finally taking steps in the right direction and all of that needs to be encouraged and praised so Melnik deserves flack for all the garbage. He's been involved with as the owner of this team but that's that that's that flat can't becoming today. Today is is all good and he should be encouraged to keep this thing moving in the right direction. Yeah no doubt about it. No doubt about here's here's my reaction to some of that that stuff's those Steve. These lawsuits were more than a nagging thing and unfortunately for people get in these sorts of disputes that they would like no one else else to know about that ain't happening anymore these days. It's it's all out there. When you hear this story now the people holding his plane of the Casino you know who wants some money back less than a million and anything else that this guy's dealing with people are gonNA people are on the payroll from that guy or people who are old money are going to going to look up when he signs this deal and says. Why are we waiting for our cash. Why why why is this happening when just signed this giant deal for a player you wonder if they can come ahead and say look at World This Dole. I hope that Steve I hope that doesn't affect him paying players and signing these deals for sure and one last thing I think it's you're you're renewing trust between the organization and the fan base and obviously comes at a good time because this clubs season ticket base. It's ticket details with their home opener. You know days away now a couple of weeks few weeks in good shape and this is going to help. I think like this is going to restore some trust but it's not just between fan base and the team. It's also when you think about it. between players teams because you you got you got a guy like Chabad resigning with the club. That's going to resonate with other guys on the team. You Got Brady Chuck. Who's going to be eligible for an extension next next summer. I think you have a situation now. Where a guy like Shibat is buying in long term in this organization that really I think will affect the Neil what other people other players in this organization think about the Ottawa Senators and not just these players but players around the league you know that if maybe someday not that this ends I've ever been big free agent buyers but if they ever did dip their toe in that pool and were interested in a free agent well when when you see big guns like this starting harding to sign long term contracts with the organization sending a loud message to the rest of the league that this is a good spot to be and obviously the fans have been clamoring for this kind of thing thing so I think it's a day of celebration. It's I think you know the biggest win the sense of had a couple of years so it's all good across the board. Lord Thomas Chabad getting an eight year contract. That's where eight million dollars a season and so one less thing and certainly a that buys a little bit of goodwill deal with the fan base a.

"And that are these like caricatures created by Steve Chabot and again National Committee to the find the Democrats dummy do you what do you run around with them well I I haven't I it I I to my knowledge there's only one of the four that I've even even mad at this point there that means the their agenda is much larger than us for normal guy from from Cincinnati you know they've got their own agenda I got a lot of followers after seven OC crazy but I actually had this school group on the floor of the house last week I was Saint Jude school on the on the west side that a hundred kids and their parents and and some chaperones and so I was in there on the floor of the house because we had finished up for the for the day and tell him about the capitol building to tell about that room were FDR Franklin Delano Roosevelt came you know decades ago and said yesterday December seventh the date that will live in infamy and next day Congress you know we declare war against the empire Japan so tell him all the stuff and in walks a group of a dozen or so folks and it was Rashid how to lead yeah and so you know we shook hands and and he said hi and stuff after politely listen to me and afterwards she said she really got an education because she didn't know a bunch of the stuff that I was telling them like they're still too ball at home bullet holes in the chamber you know where the Porter Rican terrorists shot the place up back in nineteen fifty four and she was kind of fascinated so you on a personal basis members of Congress can get along and I always try I said this after the after the president criticized the the for Congress woman yeah we can disagree without being disagreeable that's the way I prefer to do it and so members can get along so the S. as it probably too long winded answer but you know no I'm not running buddies with it with any of my at least one and I are on it on a personal basis where we we're not yeah I throw things at each other now as far as moving forward I watched some of the morning shows today Steve Chabot and they talked about the subpoenas for me can we got more investigations I would encourage the Democrats to keep doing that this is a wonderful thing in other words do nothing demonstrate that once you have power it's about investigations and not litigation its investigation litigation and not legislation they don't want to do things to make the lives of average Americans better what did you want to know what they want to attack and so I would encourage him to stay stay on the course the wrong to demonstrate that do you anticipate in the next fifteen sixteen months but Congress of which you're an important part will actually do anything I think we should and I'm certainly open to it and want to do it and it reached out to the other side and whenever I offer a piece of legislation I always reach out and get a democratic co sponsor because you got a lot better chance of getting things pass that way that's why Vanderbilt and you be a university of Virginia when they've done their studies the last two congresses I've been in the top ten percent the top ten members of Congress actually stop five percent for getting things done being effective because I do work with the other side but I'm telling you bill this week I came from a hearing this morning in the Judiciary Committee on our border and we had our border people there it's Saturday been there many times they like to talk about it now they'll be over there Raylan on on trump for putting children in cages and allegedly separating them from their families but these are policies that were implanted under the Obama administration but they don't mention that no we bring it up but you know it's it's it's we ought to be working together on the things we ought to get control of our border you know we ought to do away with sanctuary cities I mean it's not unfortunately our community is an exam all of that so anything you know if you look at the news recently when they were talking about Thompson and the people out to pick people up and deport him we're talking about people that already gone through the entire process they've been here for years the end of that process to the courts in the courts have said you've got to go back there's no basis for you to be here legally and in cities aren't cooperating those sanctuary cities won't cooperate we can enforce the laws here we absolutely have to well you know your friend T. G. said failed I also goal him twice and failed has put together a rapid response team what chart wave which will help illegal aliens stay in Cincinnati since we are cheers me a sanctuary city within him what about what about the rapid response team of P. G. said fell I think that what you've described it bill it's just not I mean we ought to have cities and all communities ought to cooperate with our border protection officials are ice officials are trying to demonized these people and and you you mentioned the the for Congress women you know though one of them call in our detention facilities down at the border what we're trying to house people in most of the bill under the Obama administration for example with the same so called cages you know their call in those concentration camps in in in comparing our border our border patrol people people that put their lives on the line every day with the **** I mean it couldn't be more outrageous and then they want to they want to sanction the president they want to call him a racist on the floor of the house but they completely ignore those people that made statements like that in those people that have made anti semitic statements let's not talk about them which target the press and it's really outrageous can you imagine a city and the state in rebellion against the federal government I thought we fought that war in eighteen sixty one eighteen sixty five but you had three hundred cities controlled by Democrats everyone a rapid response team because they are in rebellion against the federal government that federal law doesn't apply here well one of five what if somebody in Covington says you know what the IRS wall down to ply here civil rights laws they don't apply here is in this the recipe for chaos and confusion when individuals like Dwight sitting Felder out there running around with the rapid response team which violates federal law it is in this like a rebellion well to him cities basically declare their independence on that particular issue that she is just wrong and unfortunately it's ratcheted up from not only just sanctuary cities but now entire state sanctuary states like California and if you look at the problems that there haven't right now from these gigantic homeless areas where they're human excrement you know on the streets and sidewalks and people sleeping everywhere and people aren't safe and it's gotten so discussing the people are leaving those areas the taxpayers are leaving those areas and you're left with with you know people that that I don't think you're doing them any favor whether they're American citizens or whether they're here illegally and I hate to see and you know Cincinnati by being a sanctuary city and that also makes it tougher for folks like myself that are trying to get federal money federal dollars for projects that we need locally when you're trying to convince the trump administration and knowing what their attitude is about sanctuary cities all they've done is put a target on it and make it tougher for us to get those dollars and that's really unfortunate because we all ought to be working together on this Democrats Republicans in the cities and counties and states and the federal government the only way we're going to get anything done is to work together and sanctuary cities for example just the opposite of that hi Steve said but you're a great American thanks for coming on the bill Cunningham show in your lead offer Tucker Carlson last night you're my leadoff guest today don't get much better than that for you does it under any better to be on on bill Cunningham show to heck with Tucker Carlson I'm telling you this list hi Steve Samet thank you very much Anna thank you was on.

"It's designed to hate your acupressure points, and it's basically detoxing your soft tissue on every single level. Okay. So if we could describe it because I'm looking at it. And it looks amazing. Sadly this podcast. No, one can see it is if you could describe that for all this news, just what it is. We're looking at I've heard a lot of different things because people have said there's basically nothing else like it, which you know since this test. You've seen nothing else like it. But my point is I wanted it to be urban omic like easy for you to hold. You can hold like through clipping your hands holding it like just normally just any other way, and I designed three print so that you can balance and add as much pressure as you want. But I've heard people tell me that this looks like this belongs in MoMA because it's like it's design. Hi, it's like a very architectural design. And honestly, my point was a lot of beauty tools are not affective, but gorgeous, right? And then there's tools that are really effective. But like do you want that weird L-shaped massager like in your, no, no, no, right? So I wanted to combine aesthetics and affective nece. And then so and also all obviously, portability Chabot friendly and the likes and this is what it's gorgeous. I've actually seen the packaging already for this as well, which is absolutely beautiful meals like jewelry like a real gift at such a luxury item. And then it's a massage total. So incredible for it to be to take self catch that really looks level. You may sense because that's the name of your company. So it tells a little bit about how you got started in beauty. So I actually worked in investment banking and different.
