The word computer implies mathematics but what was happening in the nineteen fifties was primarily by the leadership of the ibm corporation. Computers were really being used for business. Data processing and it was very practical that it was worth the money ibm marketed a series of expensive computers. But they were worth the money to forbid them. Big businesses accord general motors general electric companies. Like that and the the communication workers. So here we have. A computer of does mathematics. We have a computer that does data processing lots of memory We also saw in the nineteen fifties an end of the sixties computers using for control purposes in avionics missiles missile guidance aircraft. Things like that. Those were very very specialized. Communication was not one of them. Now today we use the computer primarily for communication. This was before they call that silicon valley and that's what we use today these other competitors. They they worked s. All of them were actually quite good. No we actually think that there will be a market for these things and they founded a company and they came out with a machine. Call the univac. And that's a very interesting term because univac the uni meant that it was intended for scientific and business processing that was a revolutionary concept at the time. And we're getting ahead of the story here. But it all goes back to the eac as the sort of breakthrough moment and so then. What was the next significant milestone in computing. Well i mentioned the the fact that the eckerd markley founded a company and try to market did market a very successful and the univac. And i mentioned how no one ever thought about making another eac just because of its architecture and what happened was that during the construction phases eckerd and moth. -ly met with a hungarian mathematician and john. Newman who had might immigration to the united states and phenomenon was one of the most eminent mathematicians in the world and had a number of things that he was involved with us.
