"Orange, lemon cherry, and lots of vitamin C, part of this complete breakfast. A couple of things to unpack there on that 1980s commercial city. Orange lemon cherries, Tony says it's all one flavor. That's what that's what the experts say. It's hard to imagine when you bite into a different color fruit loop, your brain is telling you one thing, but it's all the same flavor. I spent a long time believing that I was getting like 15 different flavors. Yeah. And that's a lie. I grew up living believing a lie. Oh my gosh, that's not the only lie you grew up believing, my friend. I know. The thing about vitamin C, did you know from vitamin C? What? So that was from cereal day the other day, and a couple of you were like, no, no, no, definitely, why would they have an orange one? You guys, why would they have an orange fruit loop? If you Google this, people have done a deep dive on it. I think even science has looked into this. Your orange fruit loop tastes exactly like the cherry froot loop or whatever, or I guess we shouldn't describe them as flavors, just colors. They're all the same flavor. So bizarre, but thank you for reaching out to you guys on serial day. I feel like this means something, but I didn't do too much research on the psychology of it. Taylor Swift, sociopath, or awesome individual. Taylor Swift's cereal of choice is cinnamon toast crunch. I feel like sociopaths would eat brand flakes. All right, so what we'll do, line up some known psychopaths. And sociopaths. And see what their favorite breakfast cereal is. Shouldn't be too hard. We're in radio. There's a whole bunch kicking around the shore office. But yeah, and then we'll just do a blind taste test, see who likes what cereal and science, boom. So thank you. For reaching out about that on cereal day, first, a couple of you are like, do your colleagues know you call them all psychopaths. Yes. And believe it's a 100% scientifically accurate. Then the other thing was a number of you sent us this thing where apparently you really can tell if you're a psychopath through eating cereal. If you pour the milk in the bowl first, more than a few of you pointed this out. Pour the milk in first, and then the cereal, that means you're a psychopath. That's the test. I guess that comes right from the FBI, you guys. Fluffs you guys? Fluffs? I feel like I don't even know you, you guys, barf. Hey, Tony and I are on the same page, but you get a bit drastic. There should be a some sort of alarm should go off. If we agree about something, it doesn't happen that often, you guys, supposed to be no wrong answer. It then my heart told me that fluff is wrong. I'm sorry. That was from serial day was on Tuesday. Thanks for reaching out afterwards. First of all, a couple of you pointed out, we asked you what your favorite serial was, and then when you, when you shared when you took a chance on us and shared from the heart, we told you you were wrong, and that I got to work on that, you guys. That was not, if you love fluffs, I shouldn't judge. Fluff judgment? Anyway, the other point was that fluffs went so fluffs has this thing for one of the greatest prizes in cereal boxes ever. I had no idea about this, so thanks for sending this. So just for background from my own kids, you used to get prizes in cereal boxes? Amazing. Plastic submarines and things. Teeny tiny stickers that you had to lick? It was a great era. Way back in the 50s, Quaker cereals, puffed wheat, so like fluffs in cereal box you could get the deed to one square inch of land in the Yukon. Yukon Gold rush country. Actual deeds, you just had to sign it. And it was a deed to one square inch of land in the Yukon. I guess they go on eBay for like 20 bucks. If you still had one of these, incidentally, last time I bought cereal, I bought a box of cereal, it was almost 20 bucks for the box of cereal, too. It's Scottie and Tony. This might make you angry or make you excited to try something new, but some of those top selling cereals I bet you have never tried. It's hard to find just Canadian stats. So I'll run down the top ten in north America, bestselling cereals. Fruity pebbles. Have you ever had fruity pebbles? Nope. Life. But I'm sure I had life one time by mistake. My wife puts it in the homemade bits and bites at Christmas time. Frosted mini wheats. Delicious. Fruit loops, although Tony says, no name froot loose. Fruit loops is, I think, maybe my favorite. They've surpassed the actual fruit loops in flavor. Lucky charms is number 6 on the list. Some of you have texted that one and admitted that you just eat the marshmallows, no shame. No, no judgment here. The top 5 selling cereal in North America cinnamon toast crunch. We got a lot of answers for that. And we're switched favorite. He said she might be a psychic. Is she a psychopath? Because she eats cinnamon toast crunch. Apparently not. Apparently, you guys, I'm the psychopath. Surprise ending. The number four, this is wild. The number four bestselling cereal in North America is honey bunches of oats. Really? Frosted flakes, honey nut, Cheerios. It's number two. It's my wife's favorite. And just plain old Cheerios is the bestselling cereal. Yeah. Not a single Rice Krispies. Yeah. I figured they'd be in the top ten. Scottie and Tony. Tony grew up not being allowed to have the delicious sugar coated cereals. No, I wasn't but later on, my brother was. He is almost ten years younger than me, so it's like we lived in different houses. That doesn't seem fair to me. No, it's incredibly unfair. When I'm happy you mentioned that. I was incredibly unfair. So you'd have like puffed rice, and that sort of thing. Yeah, shreddies. Just plain Cheerios. Which are fine. I still like plain Cheerios. Some of the other ones were just terrible. Here are the worst cereal flops of all time. Cereals that came out and barely sold anything because just a terrible idea. Okay. Frosted flakes, banana cream flavor. Okay. Fruity pebbles cupcake flavor. Sour patch kids cereal. SpongeBob flakes. That's just a blatant marketing nerd cereal. Pop tart cereal. So every little thing in your bowl was a tiny, tiny pop tart. How could that go wrong? I mean, I'm intrigued. Pop tarts are delicious. Anyway, failed. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cereal from the 1980s. I bet we'll see another one. Isn't there a new some new movie coming out? We're going to see another one. Duncan donuts cereal did not do well. PacMan cereal? Nope. I think I had that. Yeah, that's one I think we tried before. Early 80s. Nintendo cereal just Nintendo. They just came up with it was just Nintendo. Oh, come on, you guys. Somebody, of course, somebody got that approved. And the most disastrous release from General Mills was Nickelodeon, green slime cereal. It was green, you guys. Wow. Scottie and

"Yeah, I do. I've got it in my collection. It's sitting in a car cabinet with my model cars sitting in the back of a model ute prior to place. Right, so how did you get it signed? Was it when it was coming around playing with the school kids? Did we used to play a lot of handball with school kids from memory? Unlikely he never came to my school. But a couple of years back, I think it was even during COVID. He did this promotion for one of his charities where he basically said, hey, I want to give my all these signed high bounce balls. All you do is send a letter and in that letter put one of those Australia posts like $10 prepaid statue with the return address on it and then how about three or four weeks later? In the mail of high bounce ball rides, signed by him. A couple of things on this. My mind, Kevin rod brought a load of those thinking this is going to be huge. This is going to be like fidget spinners. This is my super. And every time he moves house, his wife goes. He's going to get rid of those. Hundreds. COVID comes along and it's like, this is my moment. This is my crypto. And so you did that. You sent him a letter like the old fashioned way of entering a competition on the radio. Envelope. It was very old school. It's like, this is like how you used to eat things in the 90s. Yeah, aerial box returns. It cost me the cost of an envelope. And how did that raise money for charity? Yeah. I think it was rising awareness. I wish I could remember what charity is for the paper. Kevin Robert super. It was something for children. I can't remember exactly the bit of paper sitting with it in my room somewhere, but I'd have to have a look for it. Don't worry about that. All right, Blake, thank you very much for giving us a call. A national flapjack day stretch your taste buds and try toppings that take this breakfast dish to all three meals plus dessert. Thanks, Anna. Breakfast cereal appeals to the kitten all of us. If you are ever dragged along to the grocery store, one reward made it all worthwhile, a trip down the cereal aisle. But the brightly colored boxes promising a toy inside did not start out that exciting at all. And while Kellogg's corn flakes were the first serial to provide a prize inside the box in 1909, they were originally designed to be boring. Boring. Doctor John Harvey Kellogg believed that a bland diet would keep us on the straight and narrow and corn flakes were his first line of defense. The serial later took a riot aboard Apollo 11, where they were formed into cubes to be eaten without milk. Few other cereals have such an illustrious history, though some have enough sugar to rocket your kids to the moon and back. A national cereal day celebrates your inner child with a bowl full of crunchy goodness. We were given that as dessert, we couldn't have sugar cereal for you. I couldn't have sugar cereal. So you had corn flakes for dessert? No. I'm in a deer. I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we celebrate every day. I'll see you tomorrow.

Here in the United States, a flapjack is another name for a pancake. The word is simply a regional name, but if you're in England, make sure to choose your words carefully over there, a pancake is similar to our version. However, a flapjack is an entirely different thing. British flapjacks are baked in an oven and made from a mixture of oats, sugar, butter, and syrup. They're closer to what we call granola bars. On national flapjack day enjoy a stack with melted butter and syrup or any regional favorite of your own. If your mother ever dragged you along to the grocery store, then a trip down the cereal aisle made it all worthwhile. "But what cereal makes the best milk Tough one i would have to say golden grams just because i think that's a really good. All rounder. I disagree okay. She likes lucky charms. But i think that's just because she's weird and cinnamon toast. Ranch mean come. We'll see is good. But i mean very very good mill rural you call. Ctc ctc's khalili urine out. No i love it. I'm just saying golden grant is like it's like cdc milk plus honey sidebar lindsey. Let's have a sleepover any. But here's the thing. Cdc so good dry as well. It does you like. It's just a great snack. All around honestly i think all that's true of all cereal. I would say absolutely. Not all kids cereals. Now no fucking things but nothing on. Charms cheerios cheerios. Or i want to know what the nastiest cereal you've ever tried is. Did you seek the cereal out or did someone say. Hey this is gross. Tried out the official enter. Because it's technically my own fault for doing it but i've eaten a couple expired cereals before for the spectacle of it Eight like a five year. Old box of fruit brute that was really bad and one of my personal most nostalgic was the neo. Pets cereal that came out. 'cause i am a child of the nineties. That was that was a serious neo. Pets island berry crunch. And i always really loved that one obviously because it was like a licensed tien cereal at last very long and one of the friends. I've made to cereal. Communities name's gabe fonseca. Who runs a youtube channel called serial time Which i would recommend checking out and he also has an insane collection of cereal boxes. He's been like on the today. Show before talking about his cereal library of retro boxes and he's been a big help over the years and sending me some stuff and we've just become friends and one year. He sent me a still sealed box of the neo. Pets cereal despite it being expired for eleven years at that time i think i still try to dislike. Could write informative post about it and it tasted like it was eleven years old. Drywall soaked in expired wine. Basically but if we're talking about like actual fresh cereals it still tasted really bad for national cereal day. One year post release these two flavors a parody of honey bunches of oats called honey brunches votes and they were kind of hard to get they were a chicken and waffles cereal as well as a maple bacon donut cereal all. That sounds wrong. That is amazing and disgusting the chicken and waffles. One was all right. It was a good combination of salty and sweet but the maple bacon donut was so awful. Just really really dogs in strips mixed with miscellaneous sweetness and if we're not counting cereal there's also what came out recently was the mystery flavored pop tarts since we also covered pop tarts on my blog and podcast is because i see them as very adjacent to cereal in terms of the culture in the silliness of it. Yeah breakfast ritual and these mystery flavored pop tarts. I couldn't believe that it felt like. I was being actively punked while i ate them. They were very cheesy. In my opinion. I waste and very hard. So hard to describe they were like garlicky and onion and it turns out they were supposed to be like everything bagel flavored pop tarts but an absolute trick. They played on the world with that one. Especially because at first you could only get them in boxes like sixteen. I ended up to trolling some of my friends. Asking them what they thought of it. Wow that truly sounds nasty. i can't even imagine pretending to even everything bagel pop tart. What that's one. Why would they do that. If we're going to have a mystery flavor pop tart at should be like lemon custard. You know something that makes sense everything. Bagel is more savory exactly and we think pop tart says moore sweet. But i don't know. I think everything bagel books and everything but So okay let's let's go back to the fan base though. Like how are they interacting. How did this. I blow up. Was it immediate. I mean what was the journey here. Also you've got some famous fans. Who is your most famous fan. And why is it lin-manuel miranda certainly the most famous fan. That i'm aware of just because he's already he's collaborated with the mcelroy brothers before so he's familiar with their body of work and it was a surprise to me to hear that he also really loved our show in particular in terms of the fan base. It's kind of hard to compartmentalize everyone just because the people who listened to the podcast specifically aren't necessarily quite the same people a lot of the time as the ones who are following like the blog for up to the minute news about late a cereal products. I think people who listen to the podcast are more interested in the total ridiculousness of the subject matter rather than like a serious vested interest in trying every new cereal so there is an interesting intersection of groups there between people who are really nostalgic for this old foodstuff and looking to try the newest thing on the market as well as people who are just looking to check out and hear other people talk about something that they would probably never hunt down and try for themselves especially people who listen to our show from like overseas where there's literally no country in the world that has a serial game even close to america. There's just no limit to the breadth of the cereal aisle here which is not that great. My also diabetes epidemic. Okay blame cereal. I'm sarah little bit. I'm not blaming our guest. But i'm gonna blame cereal. You know. we get kids hooked while they're young and that's not a great resume but yeah there are definitely international voyeurs who like to to sort of like watching animals that zoo see how crazy the serial game gets over here not price yes so there are lake times of year that are very important to the serial community and it seems like i mean especially halloween and then weirdly new years which i didn't know about until looking through your website but like usually new serials are announced at the beginning of the year. Sure why the start of the year tends to be so popular for new serials. It might just be like a business fiscal planning sort of thing. I'm not too knowledgeable about the actual you industrial process behind it does. It is a bit confusing. Considering how many people tend to make new year's resolutions to eat healthier and then they are beset on all sides by this tempting news that comes up but yeah i tend to be pretty pretty high variety but comes out at the start of the year versus something like halloween where the cereals are focused around the seasonality and the teaming of your your general mills monster cereals halloween captain crunch and not so many new pumpkin spice cereals as much as there used to be it was pretty insane for a while but i think they're sort of backing off that trump dan to pivot a little bit. Actually when i went to listen to.

I need to look at the oxford dictionary of expert and see what it is but the thing is i feel and i always have. I feel that somebody can talk about an experience mole. If they have been for that experience themselves yeah so with my mental health episode. I have been for it so i felt that can talk about it and with dating me. Enlisted have a week of our whole of experiences and if we don't we have guessed it do and that's the thing say we're not experts will just two people that Trying to help trying to make a difference trying to give you something to take away trying to give you something to listen to. Which is liz light. Thank you thank you for setting all this up getting everybody to voice night and all these files because that is amazing and nobody wanted to listen to me. "What you say if you like people on their about prospects i mean the i think that Otake something that the cubs uncle is like. How only should you be about your situation. And i'm always like the like if you don't wanna Off that also. There are a lot of unspoken agreements to take place as people where somebody is. I find very often that if you've been on a feedback to the guardian here that seem that e Stop seeing other people. Speaking to other people no comment by the way of whether he's speaking to other people will seeing on the people but it definitely seems to be like an unspoken expectation and my nemesis on spike expectations. People have an expectation of me but state the third reich half hidden in soupy underneath the surface. Us two questions like you said. If don't wanna know down so asta questions Up any expectations that this person is this and this is always going. I'm like i'm. I'm considered my own life. Because like maybe stepping away from that and saying like it might be a period where i just just literally stopped everything everything everything everything. And then just singularly speak to one person at the ruin of probably my entire. Social leading critic will like a lot of the fact that we have conversation backwards and forwards. So just polite conversation never crossing boundaries. Most of the time you know the buzzer time soon. Messed into might say. Hey look today. And i'll say thanks very much really appreciate that The same time answering is has has genuinely has consequences. Like a my over all effectiveness. And don't be i make about third and my wages from my social media like having engagement is super super important at the same time you try not to like. I'm not leading anybody on. I'm not engage. I was thinking what happened by just stopped responding to all messages hopefully potentially all messages from the first date to see what happened. But that's kind of why why to do the date for year in a way is like is this like big complicated web of messaging tool kagan and i was like just create a blank sheet of paper and just paper while you're dating. Is the paper blanket other. No no no damn slides like an occasional reply to story but no bright with intent. Or at least if there's if i'm not conscious of Maybe like secret hidden subconscious in the date. I'm trying to get my head around it. They sounds amazing to me because it sounds like it really needs cereals days without the no dates involves obviously no sex. No getting involved design involve no like lime ingle for future ended up dating thing not necessarily there will be an added subjects. Still wing seats. That could be sowing seeds but it would need to like stay at certain level and you said something interesting to me about the right person like if i met somebody now and they were amazing. Like with a way to is a weird concept of wait for me because how do we even know if it's a thing because i wouldn't get to the point if we know seen yet just like i really would go out with us. Model one date with One particular person who was in my life nearly a decade. When a monday and the following week she was she stayed in my flat for four nights straight and we did not see about three. Yeah i mean. I moved somebody else to three weeks. Common impulsive person. The whole point is like. I'm trying to conserve or regina. My energy into things on updating. Because i was finding excited consuming and also exhausting and like in this whole like dating app. The hora the i was just gonna totally what state paid and then seattle really good possible. I'd be interested to see. If i could do the same thing just literally just entirely by blakely all would like the shadows of the past just the pair. Like very like yeah. I mean people have tried to make a reappearance that i mean. Like fish is all makes people welcome people who welcome. I'm not tainting i like. I appreciate the jess jaw. People that always be welcome to just pop up all he'd been away for a while and then there's a couple of people that if they pops up you'd be like a get slides like like a half people. Hey he still trying. But the point is i think i'd be. I'd be so interesting if i could do that. Lot of just testing people fantastic humans gills. I've man i've really get on with had great things before any thought gone six months safely. Not see anybody and they. It'd be very hard. If they pops open the ally jau letter to be like a meal months to. I'm sure we'll get considerably harder as time goes on but certainly the intent is to won't to pools dicing efforts with mezzanine I think fantastic an interesting question about the seed sowing because whereas when does this seemed become a shoot really like gardening so hyphen this evening. As a full this timely meddling. We're gonna disown now to question. Scifo richard has not wrong questions. And if you do get this club right. We're going to weigh the options by the way 'cause you all during some exercise in the usa fifty percents to people have used dating site or app. What percentage has said that they have been married all a committed relationship with someone they met through online dating option. So we'll we'll get into that from national cereal day a few weeks ago but on march fifteenth you wrote free agent menzi. Am i right s and it's a good tweet. That is a good tweet. Provocative of here's march seventeenth. Now this one this one. I like cardinals. Trading for raiders. Center rodney hudson. So you like that. Yeah because that was a follow up to re right before that in the day we had signed. Aj green and we were a very divided office on on aj green coming into town of like it's hard to spin aj green as positive of you. The statistics like look at the beginning. You know all. He was getting all area arts. He was receiving all. But look at all these uncatchable targets that. At green was receiving okay. Well at a point. Was it aged. Greens fault that these were not catchable targets because everyone else on the team seemed to be able to get open and do well with joe burrow's oh that's We were very pump for rodney. Hunts hudson after eight green kind of left me scratching my head out of the fantasy angle though. If you just look at it from a cardinal's fan perspective did you like the green signing or was that while you were just talking about. I don't. I don't like really fantasy. And i don't like it for arizona. I mean look he he could still have it maybe a year back after getting back into football shape it could work out but this this feels like a classic arizona. Kosta <Speech_Male> which <Speech_Male> literally <Speech_Male> means race or <Speech_Male> lineage <Speech_Male> didn't know that <Speech_Male> from <Speech_Male> the feminine <Speech_Male> of kosta <Speech_Male> which means pure or <Speech_Male> chased <Speech_Male> from the latin <Speech_Male> costas. <Silence> Now why <Speech_Male> did this <Speech_Male> because yes. It is often <Speech_Male> a <Speech_Male> described <Speech_Male> as <Speech_Male> Yeah <Speech_Male> it's an in hinduism <Speech_Male> you know. I think <Speech_Male> you think of india <Speech_Male> a lot when you think <Speech_Male> of the caste system <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> But how did they get <Speech_Male> portuguese word in there. <Silence> Why isn't it a <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> a <Speech_Male> indian word <Speech_Male> Hindu <Speech_Male> word or do word. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Why isn't it something like <Speech_Male> that. I don't know <Speech_Male> Maybe it was started <Speech_Male> in portuguese. <Speech_Male> Sure <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> you know this <Speech_Male> is the thing <Speech_Male> you know. I can't <Speech_Male> say that i necessarily <Speech_Male> agree with this <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> But <Speech_Male> you know different cultures. Do <Speech_Male> different things. So you <Speech_Male> have to respect that. But <Speech_Male> i do feel like <Speech_Male> you know this is much <Speech_Male> more of an older <Speech_Male> word <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> An older <hes> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> You know in <Speech_Male> in these modern times. <Speech_Male> It's not quite <Speech_Male> as apparent as it <Speech_Male> used to be. i think it <Speech_Male> is still still <Speech_Male> around <Speech_Male> But <Speech_Male> you know what we're we're <Speech_Male> getting away from that <Speech_Male> Okay <Speech_Male> here we go with our last <Speech_Male> word. There's more <Speech_Male> at the word castle <Speech_Male> which we shall <Speech_Male> be getting to in a couple of <Speech_Male> episodes. There's a cool <Speech_Male> picture of a castle. <Speech_Male> Which i keep on looking at <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Okay so we had <Speech_Male> cast cast <Speech_Male> about cast. <Speech_Male> The net cast <Speech_Male> around <Speech_Male> castaway cast <Speech_Male> down cast <Speech_Male> and castell <Speech_Male> in <Speech_Male> Well <Speech_Male> what we wanna <Speech_Male> pick. Guess i shall <Speech_Male> pick <Speech_Male> cast <Speech_Male> castaneda as <Speech_Male> the word of the episode <Speech_Male> and i don't have <Speech_Male> anything here. I mean. i <Speech_Male> can like tap on this thing. <Speech_Male> I can do <Speech_Male> something like. <Speech_Male> Can you hear that maybe <Speech_Male> possibly <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> <hes> playing with <Speech_Male> them cast nets <Speech_Male> and they're fun <Speech_Male> to click <Speech_Male> clack. D <Speech_Male> bloop <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Music_Male> bloop bloop. <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> I could've just done <Speech_Male> that. I didn't need to say any <Speech_Male> words <Speech_Male> that i do <Speech_Male> for you people. <Speech_Male> It's <Speech_Male> holiday time. <Speech_Male> We're going to get to this quick <Speech_Male> because we keep on making <Speech_Male> these episodes longer <Speech_Male> and longer. Why <Speech_Male> do we do that. <Speech_Male> <hes> in the west <Speech_Male> is national. <Speech_Male> Cereal day <Speech_Male> it is also the <Speech_Male> critics choice awards. <Speech_Male> It is <Speech_Male> still lent <Speech_Male> in australia. <Speech_Male> It is clean up <Speech_Male> australia day <Speech_Male> so go clean up <Speech_Male> all of australia. <Speech_Male> The entire <Speech_Male> country <Speech_Male> the entire island <Speech_Male> in <Speech_Male> belgium. Let's take a look at some of our events toward today on this day in one thousand nine hundred sixty. Elvis presley ended his time in the army. He was done with the army on this day. It was kinda you know crazy that he had to go to the army. The interesting that i find about this whole situation is that he meant priscilla now. She was very very young. She was like i don't know twelve years old or something like that. But that's how they met while he was in germany in the army now they were just friends and then of course later they got married they had hidden. The rest is history In nineteen eighty six on this day the today tabloid launched in britain. It was the first national color newspaper. Do you believe that the first national color newspaper. It's like usa today but You know british so totally not like it. But i guess kind of anyway Twenty fifteen the last ebola patient in liberia was an english teacher. Fifty eight years old. He was released and it was declared that the world the nation was ebola. Free by the world health organization It was like basically they just needed no new cases for the next forty two days a we need that is right now. No new cases of anything all right last year on this day. Elizabeth warren the front runner the presidential race. She dropped out on this day a year ago and mike bloomberg dropped out of the two thousand twenty race as well and people are still talking about that. Katy perry announced that she was pregnant. Yeah now of course her and orlando bloom did have the baby already because it's been a year ranked Yeah so daisy was born in august of twenty twenty two days before the distribution of her latest album smile. And you know the biggest.
